you’re stood at the podium of the funeral, spencer in the coffin next to you holding a bouquet of plastic flowers as he tries not to laugh.

“spencer is a gamer, and we all know that. but if he spent as much time with me as he does on world of warcraft, i’d be the happiest girl on earth, but hey, at least he has a high gear score to keep him company whilst i cook.”

you see everyone laugh as you switch the paper, angela cackling over what you thought was a pretty shit joke.

as the laughter dies down, you continue on. “spencer and me only ever disagree over stupid things, and i think to myself, he must know he’s short when he has to look up to see eye-to-eye with someone who's shorter than him, because i’m always right. i’m sure courtney feels the same about shayne.”

at this, courtney yells “FACTS!” from behind one of the cameras, and you shoot her a wink.

shayne then stares you down, and all you say is “shayne don’t worry, i’m a short king ally!” which he just smirks at.

“i have some pretty bad jokes here, so let’s quickfire some.“ you mutter to everyone.

“if sleeping on my arm were an olympic sport, he’d have more gold than michael phelps.” this earns a giggle from spencer, as you have a folder on your phone of him asleep in the most awkward ways possible, always lying on your arm somehow.

“he’s so obsessed with video games, even his posture looks like it's from a character model that hasn't loaded properly yet.“ this makes everyone cackle, spencer opening one eye to glare at you, and you just laugh him off.

“your gamer boy posture is so bad, chiropractors have your picture on their vision boards on what to improve on.”

“do you guys think that,” you exhale through your nose at what patrick has written on your prompt card. “spencer’s idea of sitting normally the same as a pretzel’s idea of being straight?” which is so bad it’s good, making you crouch down to laugh.

you stand back up after a moment, your stomach twisting over what you’re about to do. it’s going to be so worth it, but gosh you feel bad.

“spencer, my lovely boyfriend, is a mt dew kickstart addict, certified gamer girl, and a soon to be father” and at this last statement, everyone gasps, and spencer’s eyes shoot open and he sits up. he looks at you intently, and you see him experience about a hundred emotions at once

you smile at everyone, turning to a camera, pulling out a printed off certificate of adoption, a picture of a tiny ginger cat taped to it.

“we got a cat!” you say, almost proud of how shocked everyone is

as you turn to look at spencer, you hear shayne’s laugh, and you look at spencer with sympathetic eyes, mouthing ‘i love you’ to him over all the laughter. he just smiles, knowing that this cat is going to be so loved by you both. especially you. because you love him so much.

as you sit back down, spencer sits up. having come back from the dead, he has some things to say. he goes through everyone at his funeral; alex, shayne, damien, tommy, selina, and then, you.

“and finally, my beautiful girlfriend, y/n. my bundle of sunshine, blinding and hard to look at directly.” you scoff at this, and he looks at you with a look that says this is a joke please don’t kill me when we’re home.

“i mean, come on, you cry at surf's up? i guess even animated penguins have higher emotional intelligence than you.” he manages to say through a fit if giggles. spencer always teases you for this, even though he cries at the NGE film. loser.

after wrap, courtney comes over to congratulate you on your cat, and just catch up generally.

“so, cat parents hey? proud of you girl” she says with a grin.

“yeah, i kinda feel bad scaring everyone into thinking spencer gets game in bed.” you reply, earning a laugh from her.

“don’t be mean to me! i’m a player you know?” spencer says coming up behind you.

“okay, sure you are mr ‘i cry at anime’.” you snap back.

he throws his hands up in defeat, and you kiss his cheek, going off to see amanda.

“she’s so cool.” courtney says

“yeah,” spencer replies. “she’s not that bad.”

she elbows him in the ribs, and he clutches his side

“i mean, she’s the best!” he says through strained teeth, courtney doing a proud nod before catching you up.

And Jason thinks it's a joke but Grant is SO serious. 20 years later Grant breaks into Jason's apartment and is like "so I've noticed you're not yet wed-" and Jason is like "I THOUGHT YOU WERE FUCKING DEAD WHAT THE FUCK!" And Grant is like "Irrelevant. I need you to update your hand measurements to get the ring resized."

Also!!! ASASGDJFG "I need you to update your hand measurements to get the ring resized." Meaning he already has a ring and has been constantly measuring Jason's hand throughout their childhood/teenage years, lmaoo I imagine Jason sitting there while Grant measures his hand going "lol you still on that?" While Grant very much is.

Jason being pulled the uno reverse card for once and being in the other end of "I THOUGHT YOU WERE FUCKING DEAD WHAT THE FUCK!" is so freaking funny.

Jason is still reeling on the fact that Grant came back at all, cause he had given hope he would. Jason sees his own resurrection as a curse so seeing Grant reviving gives him a new perspective and of course Grant goes, "We're soulmates, actually."

And Jason kind of believes him. Wants to believe him too.

Jason is —other than surprised Grant came back at all— is like "You meant it???"

Because he's on board, HEAVILY so, because he gets to marry the first crush he ever had, the very hetero guy who would mess around for shits and giggles, and make him flustered and red faced every time he'd throw hypotheticals at him: "I would treat you better than anyone else", "If you married me we'd never spend our nights sleeping"

All of this is especially funny immediately after Grant's resurrection, because Grant is fully convinced he came back for that one reason (it's actually way deeper than that but his obsessive streak is not gonna wind down for a while.)

Grant goes over the top with everything, the ring, the weeding, the preparations, his rich kid upbringing along his entitlement and hedonistic nature (that only amplified when he came back from dead) makes him a nightmare for anyone who gets on his way of making the Wedding anything less than perfect. This also goes along with me headcanoning him as a perfectionist (having your parents criticizing your shit since ever will do that to ya) bridezilla Grant says who lmao

And if we're going with the family dynamics...

Adeline Kane clutches her chest and almost has a heart attack because she finds out her son is alive Through a freaking Weeding Invitation.

Joey as well and his brain is balancing from wanting to beat the shit out his brother for making them go through this to go hug him and demand to be his best man.

Respawn, Alex, Rose and Wintergreen are invited as well, if only to cement the fact that Slade is very much not invited. He still shows up, though.

Jade is the bridesmaid, or best woman, or however it is. Grant shows up one day and is like "Bitch I'm getting married, you're the bridesmaid," she sighs, looks at his choice of a husband, sighs even more heavily and then they go shopping for the wedding.

The batfam on the other hand, Bruce and Dick are the ones who are having the hardest time.

Bruce is happy at first that Jason is settling and getting married, but then—

"Married to who?!"

Dick is sweating bullets, "Jason, you're still young, you don't have to settle for this one just yet!"

"No, I gotta."

Babs walks him through acceptance. When he recovers he drops Jason hints (as in, big passive aggressive hints) of him being the best man.

Jason lets him in tension for a while, at least until he decides who's gonna be the best man because he's not the first one to not-ask.

Meanwhile Steph and Tim pipe in, "can we plan your bachelor party?"

Damian is happy he gets to spend time and meet his half brother's family, (Respawn) and Jason will be there too I guess.

Jason is very much shoving in their faces, "I'm getting married before any of you losers."

Talia and Harvey are invited as well much to Bruce's dismay.

Bruce gets surprisingly along and is very supportive with Grant while he's in one of his bridezilla episodes because yes, Grant is right: Jason’s wedding deserves the best of the best.

Grant gets very intense about it too, hence, mark Jason down as scared and horny.

Slade, on the other hand, gets whiplash because Addie was just like that on their wedding.

vinnie fucking awesome. i like him alot. im obsessed with characters trapping themselves in their own tragedy, until it gets pried from their own hands. okay so the thing about vinny is that he's the most outgoing of the three in a more traditioal sense, as in it's him who runs the channel, the main face, hes our protagonist, really, not the MAIN character but the guy we wanna see, and the other two acknolwedge this in the fitness arc like earrlly on. he's a character that deteriorates, he starts strong, the leader, "jeff we have to keep filming or this prankster wins", hes positive and bright and comes up with their ideas

and then "jokes over" hits and we are sent spiralling into the unknown. jeff i love you. the where-is-jessa arc also introduces damsel/steph, i love you , jeff i love you guy who responds poorly to tragedy. but anyways vinnie is like, oh damn, okay, well this fucking blows. and he keeps filming. because thats what vinny does.

cue the long running middle arcs of the series, alex miseries, HABIT, onwards, outside help, you know the drill. and we finally start seeing the slow, cheese-grating has started making a dent on good ol vinn. now, listen, hes a guy who makes a decision and fucking trucks on that path no matter what, so despite it all, despite the hesitation, the misery, he keeps going!!

this is his cycle. he is the voyeur. he will watch. he will drown in the misery of his fate. and its him that dooms them. That's how it's always been! through every iteration! Patrick confirms this in tower on the lake, through Dr. James Corenthal, vinny suffered this fate, The Voyeur will always suffer this fate.

Vinny keeps going. he puts up cameras. he keeps filming. he pressures others into his train-car-off-the-bridge and hes suffocating but he'll see it through. and he's burning out. HABIT ensures this, through the entrapment era, his growing strength being Vinny's doom, until he's less and less of himself, more and more of a pawn, easier to manipulate, easier to hurt. And then. [Three's company.] Vinny drugs, complies. they kill shaun. and Vinny wakes up. The straw, really, not Shaun himself, but the circumstance- Vinnie realizes hes been complicit for far too long.

Vinny: I can`t get used to killing innocent people for no reason. HABIT: Well that's the only way were gonna win! [chuckling under breath] Vinny: Then I don't want to win. HABIT: What? Vinny: I don't want another person to die because of me so I can live. I rather die myself.

good, strong vinny starts to give up. and this begins the worst part. [blue room]. the psychological torture. Vinny is locked in Jeff's room. the gun. you know how it goes guys. and then [christmas]

Vince: Not good. And it's not even because, y'know, I feel bad or I'm scared. I'm not good because I don't feel anything. It's just -- what am I doing? Why am I doing this?

Guys, why do we keep filming? they say it in every series. why are we still filming? micheal says we're spreading the virus. Stan says the same. They all say but we can't stop. and it's funny; because; when that camera goes off, alot of them are saved. So many people don't have to die; they just have to stop filming. But Vinn doesnt. He cant. why? why even at his lowest, why does he still edit? film?

Vince: Who knows how many people have died. I've been in control of myself this whole time. I've been in control. I'm still pushing forward. I don't think you're a monster. He's using you, but you're not a monster. I feel like I'm becoming a monster.

instead of stopping filming, he asks us, to stop Watching. and THAT is who vinny is. blame is SHIFTING. theres always a reason. this is HABITs fault, slendermans fault, it the audiences fault, because vinny is afraid of what it means when they arent. "I promise I'm a good person." "I'm starting to feel like a monster." (the finale's rage shifting between evan and vinny on whos worse, who did what.) HABIT knows this. sees this. gives him leeway. youre the guardian. youre good. and hes not. hes not because hes the voyuer, and this is a cycle he can't end, because vinny does Not KNOW when to stop.

evan goes on, this is the FINALE, the beautiful last moment, so we see everythign again. its all recontextualized; what Vinny did, how many he's fed to the Rake, to Slenderman, to HABIT. How long he's been pointing his camera at victims, this puts a whole new spin on everything. and we see it. we see how heavy Vinn's hand has been in his own downfall.

Evan: [chortles] I can forgive you...but I gotta kill you first, okay? At least, through all this shit... Evan: ...I'll kill at least one fucking monster before I go!

and this has to end, and Vinn does what he alwasy does, desperate to protect himself, desperate to protect his own mind and heart;

Vince: I'm the monster? Do you know what you did to me, for years—what you did to our friends? Your own child?

vinn runs from blame , because thats his only defense, and. Then. it breaks. It only breaks- at the end. they killed all their monsters. Sort of.

Vince: Fuck, Evan. Damn it. Vince: I don't know if we're monsters… or just a couple of unlucky bastards. [He closes his eyes.] Vince: I'm sorry…

and this is how it all ends. this is the end of our iteration. vin, side by side with his best friend, blinks away tears, covered in his own blood and the blood of the person he can never leave, and this is the end. and he accepts it. we. we did this.

Just a couple of unlucky bastards. victims of monsters and cycles we could never even begin to understand.

vinny puts the camera down. his happy ending hinged on it. its very human, isnt it?

Context

My pitch that has Max and Chloe saving Rachel

My pitch for Rachel's story

Kate and Victoria after The Storm. Here it would be about recovery, healing and reconnecting. We would find out Kate made it out in time before the storm. I think Kate and her family would move to Seattle and we’d have a chance for Kate and Victoria to reconnect. It would be about reconnecting, forgiveness and working through their shared trauma. Bonus points. Chasemarsh happens!

Life Is Strange:After The Storm. The game opens with how Jefferson nearly kills Victoria, but is saved by David. The game is about Victoria's struggle with returning to everyday life after her traumatic experiences with Jefferson and surviving Arcadia Bay's destruction. She goes to therapy and tries to live and manage her family's gallery. One day her life changes forever. Someone she thought dead comes back into her life. Kate Marsh. Kate and her sisters left her family's rigid religious household and moved to Seattle to live free. It's about reconnecting and recovering from their shared trauma, finding peace with what happened between them, becoming friends and finding love with each other.

Warren's story. It opens on the ending where Max sacrificed Chloe. Warren is in the chemistry class and the gunshot goes off. Everyone is freaked out and when Nathan is arrested and Chloe Price's body is hauled out. Max is still in the bathroom. Warren goes to comfort her and tells him he is here for her. Then the funeral happens. But we hear everyone's reactions to Chloe and Rachel's deaths.

It would be about Warren helping Max through the worst period in her life and helping Max live again. Warren would be Max’s angel to a same degree as to what Rachel was to Chloe. Warren would be there for Max in her mourning and grieving period and helped her move on from Chloe’s death. It could end with Warren and Max going Ape

Throughout the game Warren is there to help Max through the darkest period through her life and help Max through her grieving. We'd also get to learn about Warren as a character, why he loves science, sci-fi and has obscure interests(My pitch is Warren is the male Matilda, was neglected as a child, so he chose books and science as his passion and sci-fi and it made him feel whole.) and show why Warren loves Max.

Warren basically becomes to Max as what Rachel was for Chloe. As Kate put it "even angels need angels Max" It could end with Warren bringing Max out of her depression and helping Max live again.

Epilogue shows that ultimately showing Max living her life and moving on. Show that Max still misses Chloe, but show her living her life. And just show Max living her best life with Warren, Kate, Brooke, Dana, Daniel, Stella and Alyssa. Even show montage of a friendship with Victoria. Show Max having a tea date with Kate. Show Max Goin Ape with Warren. Max doing photoshoots with Victoria and shopping dates with Victoria, Courtney and Taylor. Max doing group projects and games with Warren, Kate, Brooke, Stella, Alyssa, and Daniel. Max being Dana’s official photographer. And show Max and her friends graduating Blackwell and living their lives in Arcadia Bay. We just needed to see that despite losing Chloe, Max is okay and that while she will hold onto the memories of Chloe, she can live. The final scene is Max and Warren visiting the Lighthouse. The Blue Butterfly appears and it touches Max and as the Butterfly flies away, Max says "Goodbye Chloe as Warren holds onto Max and shares a kiss at the Lighthouse.”

For Nathan's story, I'd like an actual look into the Prescott family, show the Prescott mansion, show Nathan and Kristine's sibling dynamic and how Nathan slowly got under his father's thumb and hey even show nicer moments with Sean since Nathan was awarded "son of the year" so much that Nathan keeps it in his dorm and how what started as a good childhood, evolved into a toxic abusive family dynamic. Then we come to Samantha.

For story purposes we choose the Nathan and Samantha ending as canon, you get to be in a relationship and Nathan loosens up and we get to see a more bright and positive Nathan and it's the story of how this all burns down and how Nathan becomes who he became in LIS 1.

There are two ways we can play this.

Sean Prescott just buys off the Myers family and Samantha gets a scholorship to a wealthy college. With Kristine and Samantha leaving him, Nathan becomes vulnerable and malleable for Sean and Jefferson's abuse and manipulation.

Samantha is the first person to be killed

Sean would most likely see Sam as a distraction in the way of Nathan and the “Prescott family destiny” so he enlists the help of his old friend Mark Jefferson.  Either Sam leaves Arcadia Bay or she becomes one of Jefferson’s first victims in Arcadia Bay. Yes, I know she is not listed as missing. But Samantha could’ve been one of the sad cases of Jefferson not caring enough to memorialize Sam in the red binders. He could’ve viewed her as a disappointment. The worst part? Nathan would be so messed up mentally and emotionally, Jefferson would’ve seized upon the opportunity to gaslight Nathan into believing he killed Sam. Also, I’ve always had this feeling that Jefferson has been doing his thing longer than the events of the game. Been going on for years. In Seattle, LA, all around the country. It’s just now with his old friend funding the Dark Room, Jefferson has the perfect set up. The tragic thing is that no one cared enough to look for her. Sam did not have someone like Chloe who cared enough to put up missing person posters. Sean would do his best to gaslight his son into making him believe that Sam left him all alone which would be perfect for Sean. Her mother would care, but knowing Sean Prescott, he will probably bribe her to keep quiet. That’s the sad thing, we don’t know how many dark room victims who went missing and those victims might be people Jefferson did not deem worthy of being a part of his collection and Samantha could very well be unfortunate enough to be a victim to die and not be remembered. Not knowing what happened to the only person who treated him with real kindness or knowing that his father is right, leads Nathan on a downward spiral, which eventually shows a scene of Sean introducing Nathan to his dear old friend Mark Jefferson. “He will help guide you to greatness and your family destiny.” Guiding Nathan to the Dark Room and the character Nathan would become in Life Is Strange.

I'm just gonna do what I always do and keep complaining about people not appreciating the depth Steph and Ryan's friendship. But there's something so genuinely comforting about the fact that (if Alex takes Charlotte's anger) when Alex throws the bottle at Steph, Ryan goes with Steph when she leaves. [Clip credit]

I know that to other people, a "good love interest" would always faithfully choose their lover and never prioritize anybody else, but I really enjoy the moments in the game where Ryan and Steph get to be besties. There are many moments where they could easily stop being friends, (like after the funeral, I've talked about that b4) but they gravitate back towards each other anyways. Like in this scene, you can see Steph looking towards Ryan for reassurance or support.

And while I guess you could interpret him leaving as fear (not sure why you would.), I do consider this as him leaving to go comfort Steph, since he says "WE'LL be right downstairs." He could easily just leave and go home and not bother Steph OR deal with Alex again, but he chooses Steph when he sees that she needs him.

Also just the whole scene in general, I could dissect for hours. It's exactly what Alex meant when she said her powers were a curse, not a superpower. The fact that Gabe, Steph, and Ryan think her powers are cool doesn't mean they completely understand that her powers basically take over her entire mind and body. Alex doesn't want to hurt Steph, but with Charlotte's anger in her, she literally can't control herself. And what she does is kind of horrifying tbh. It's one thing to say a few mean words, that's something the gang works through on multiple occasions in the game, but throwing a glass bottle at Steph is fucked. And the worse part is that Steph seems less angry that it was thrown at her, and more angry that it was her sentimental bottle, seemingly one of the only meaningful mementos she had to remember Gabe.

I like how True Colors depicts anger as irrationality, honestly, I think everyone has been that angry at some point in their life. We all do things we regret. And Alex does apologize for this, at the festival [Clip credit]

But that brings me to scene 2 of Steph and Ryan's friendship in these scenes: A LOOK! The weirdos are always sharing looks. They speak to each other without even moving their mouths, it goes to show that they're a lot closer than most people seem to notice. You could interpret this look as a lot of different things, but I'm choosing to assume she's once again looking to him for support.

BUT THEN STEPH APOLOGIZES? FOR WHAT? FOR NOT WANTING TO BE AROUND THE PERSON WHO THREW A FUCKING BOTTLE AT HER HEAD?

I don't think that what Alex did was completely unforgivable, I think Steph did deserve an apology and Alex did good rectifying the situation. BUT WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?????!!!! I don't even want to dissect this. I want to put this out of my mind and never think about the fact that the writers made Steph apologize for this ever again. It almost feels like the writers were so afraid of fans being angry at Steph for walking out, that they added this in just to try to head that backlash off.

to clarify: I'm obviously not bashing Alex/Steph. I think if I've had to sit through a billion posts about how Ryan is evil and unforgivable because in one ending he doesn't believe Alex, it's totally fair of me to make one singular post where I'm kind of critical of how incidents between Alex and Steph are handled in the story. I really do love Steph.

Life Is Strange Holiday Headcanon's:

A: Max is an extremely intense tree decorator. Not a branch can be bare, and not an ornament can be spared. Good luck to anyone decorating with her because she takes putting her homemade decorations on with the seriousness of a Marine.

B: Steph has worked retail before, so she HATED holiday music, which made her radio job nearly intolerable in December. But that all changed when she started dating Alex and learned she had a soft spot for the classics. Watching Alex sing "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" on her guitar single-handily reinspired her love of holiday music.

C: Sean, Daniel, and Lyla all have matching stocking's hanging in the Diaz's home. Sean and Daniel took turn's putting their stocking in the middle so it could be closer to Lyla's, to the point where Esteban banned them from touching the stocking's until it was time to open gift's.

D: Rachel and Chloe always joked that they were going to run off and see the NYC tree lighting. Well, one year, Chloe decided to bring their joke a little bit closer to reality and host a little tree lighting of their own. So, yeah, they lit dead tree's that had been left at the junkyard on fire. It wasn't exactly what Rachel had in mind, but she'd be lying if she said she wasn't enthralled by the whole thing.

More Undercut

E: The running joke in the Diaz family is that Daniel is permanently on the naughty list for biting a mall Santa when he was two. Sean think's the joke is hilarious, but Daniel actually feel's really bad. Both about the biting AND the worry he's getting robbed out of gifts for his transgression.

F: Alex buy's holiday gifts for everyone throughout the year. Partially because it stresses her out to wait to the last minute, but also partially because she loves giving custom things and those can take awhile to get commissioned. She bought Steph's gift (A few custom DND figures of all the people that live in Haven) in February and she bought Ryan's gift (A hand carved cardinal with either a platonic or romantic engraving on it's base.) in July.

G: Chloe got in trouble at school one time for telling a particularly unpleasant kid that Krampus was real and would eat them if they didn't start behaving better. She was so convincing that the kid cried and the teacher called home. William thought it was unfortunately hilarious. Joyce was...not super pleased. Max still brings it up and jokes that Krampus is going to get her if she doesn't give her girlfriend enough kisses.

H: Max and Chloe have had very intense debate's about which holiday songs they'd be. Max says that she's very "Winter Wonderland" coded while Chloe is a "Snow Miser/Heat Miser" type of a gal. Chloe would argue that Max is more of a "Twelve Days Of Christmas" type and she is more of a "Jingle Bell Rock" type.

I: Rachel loves the holiday reason for the sole reason that she LOVES holiday themed treats. Gingerbread, mint, cinnamon, eggnog, and pumpkin are all some of her favorite flavor's. She's a regular at the Two Whales at this time of year, and so devoted to her like of festive flavors that she's managed to convince Chloe that gingerbread is good.

J: Ryan volunteered to be Haven's resident Santa Claus. He dresses up every year and goes house to house bringing small gifts for everyone in town. After the events of True Colors he get's Alex involved in the fun by having her go with him as The North Pole's most important elf. He love's watching how much joy she get's when handing Ethan a video game that they're totally going to play as a group later.

How about a fic where Alex, being the empath she is, immediately recognizes that the new guy in town and Ryan are so obviously into each other and also that they're both useless and need a nudge in the right direction...or maybe a shove.

"You do know how stupid it is to try and lie to me about your feelings, right?"

"I'm not- I'm not lying, Alex. I'm not in love."

"I'm not even an empath and I can see that's a lie." Steph butts in.

Ryan sighs. "Look, I'm not denying that I have a crush, but... we don't even know anything about each other. And... people like me don't just... go in, guns blazing."

"Weren't you literally a park ranger? Isn't that what you did?"

Ryan scoffs, and Steph lightly punches his arm.

"I'm just saying - if you don't take any risk, you don't get any reward."

"She's right. You gotta live a little, Ryan." Alex chirps, leaning her head against Steph's shoulder.

"And that's my cue to head on home." Ryan smirks.

"Much appreciated, Mr. Lucan." Steph giggles as Alex nuzzles against her neck. "Just remember - cute moments like this could be yours for the low low price of actually making a move!"

"Goodnight, Steph. Alex."

Alex smiles softly at Steph once Ryan actually leaves. "We're gonna have to meddle, aren't we?"

"I'll leave the meddling to you, o smooth one."

"Wow, you're just full of sweet-talk today..."

And so begins Alex's campaign of subtle manipulation.

First off, she makes polite conversation with you, and since she and Steph co-run the record store and live above the bar Ryan took over after the mess with Typhon, she's not far from either you or Ryan, since the Black Lantern is a pretty good place to hang out and get food.

And it's clear to her immediately, that whenever Ryan is near, your emotions spike with a thrill of excitement and nervousness.

So she dives deeper, and quickly asks Ryan if he would mind if you joined them all on Game Night, and amidst glares at her, he says he would not.

"Oh, I'm so sorry! I... totally told Charlotte I would take Ethan to the premiere of that movie! That movie he wants to see."

Steph is no actor, and very transparently adds, "And I have to go with you. Because... I'm the chaperone."

You chuckle. "Isn't Alex an adult?"

"Yeah, but you give her chocolate and she goes crazy!"

Alex raises an eyebrow. "Seriously?"

"Uh, feel free to hang out! It's a short movie, we can be back later-"

"But not too short, you know."

You sigh as they leave. "I'm sorry they roped you into this."

Ryan smiles. "They really don't leave well enough alone, do they?"

"I mean, I let slip one little time that I have a crush on you and they do this!"

Ryan freezes. "Well... I was under the impression that they did this because I had a crush on you."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

"I was gonna get around to actually asking you out." you say lamely. "It's just..."

"It's scary to put yourself out there. Even today."

"Yeah. Exactly."

Ryan chuckles. "Well... I hate to let them get away with it, but it might not be such a bad idea to go downstairs? Get a bite to eat together?"

You grin. "We can always get them back some other time."

He offers you his arm. "I figured I was crushing on you for a reason."

Top 5 queer ships from video games

HELLO my fellow queers! Just in time for the end of Pride Month I have decided to write about my top 5 queer canon ships from video games because I thought it would be a cool thing to do for the occasion, because I play the video games and am obviously very queer myself. This is also sort of a post to go along with the top 5 pansexual characters that I did last year as well. So to begin our list at number 5-

5. Alex Chen and Steph Gingrich, Chengrich from Life is Strange True Colors- Starting off with a ship not from a game I've played myself but I've seen plenty of lets plays of which is something I can say about the whole Life is Strange series, Alex Chen and Steph Gingrich from True Colors are a couple of dorky sapphics with a really cute relationship. The best in Life is Strange in my opinion, while the series has always been known for having good queer representation, I personally was not as impressed as others with the vagueness and burying of gays that LiS 1 and Before the Storm did, and while LiS 2 is better with Sean and Finn in it's explicitness, they make Finn such an asshole. Canon bisexual protagonist Alex Chen of True Colors is the most likeable protagonist in the series in my opinion, and Steph Gingrich who is lesbian, is easily the best love interest. Better then Ryan from the same game in my opinion, Alex and Steph's relationship is well developed throughout the game and the 2 of them have some really heart warming moments, especially that kiss when Alex goes upstairs to see Steph during that town event. Alex seeing the blue emotions around Steph before they kiss because she's worried about Alex not kissing her, and then she does and they explode with the yellow light of happiness. And then in the endings, Steph either settles down with Alex or Alex who is also a musician joins Steph's band and they go on tour together which is very romantic as well. Best LiS couple easy for me.

4. Bayonetta and Jeanne, BayoJeanne from Bayonetta- So now we jump into games that I have played myself with BayoJeanne from Bayonetta, specifically their relationship from Bayonetta 1 and 2 because Bayonetta 3 fucked it to ship Bayo with that loser Luka instead. Bayonetta and Jeanne though were badass power couple of witches in the first 2 game. Childhood friends, to lovers, to rivals, to lovers again, what a wild ride for a relationship to go through as well but they end up being so sweet together. To explain, in Bayonetta 1 Bayo has lost her memories and Jeanne is brainwashed by Bayo's evil sage father Balder so Jeanne as another powerful witch is Bayo's rival throughout the game and it is heartbreaking, fighting your lover who you don't even remember. They both get their memories back by the end of the game though, and Jeanne rescues her girlfriend Bayo from the goddess Jubileus so she can punch her into the sun. Bayonetta 1 has some strong BayoJeanne moments but Bayonetta 2 goes all in with their relationship, with Bayo going on a romantic rescue mission to save her girlfriend from the demon Alarune, journeying through literal heaven and hell to do so. That file that you can pick up in Bayonetta 2 that talks about someone going through hell to find their lover, and then that scene where Bayo wakes up Jeanne after rescuing her from Alarune is great. "What do you need a wake up kiss or something?" referencing some developer art that shows their homelife, where Bayo has to wake up Jeanne for work. Love this badass witchy power couple, the sapphic aunts who always spoil the nephews with Christmas gifts.

3. Jala and Tyler, Jyler? from Thirsty Suitors- who I don't believe have an actual ship name until I just made one up because Thirsty Suitors is so underrated that it's fandom is almost nonexistent? Seriously this game is really good and I wish Tumblr had more fan art for it, especially Jala and Tyler fan art because they very quickly have become one of my all time favorite couples in anything. The most recent addition to this list for me, I only just played Thirsty Suitors for Pride Month and while protagonist and biggest bisexual disaster I've even seen Jala has 7 exes in total, 6 of which you need to confront throughout the game, Tyler has been the most important person in Jala's life. Her childhood friend who she has been on and off with romantically, but the girl who was always by her side and who she would always come back to. I also want to say that, it's mentioned that Jala was also by Tyler's side and helped her while she was transitioning which is really beautiful and I think it's cool that a trans girl is the main love interest of this story. Jala and Tyler have a very messy but special relationship, and after Jala is able to reconcile with Tyler after how much she had let her down in the past, it's implied that they do end up back together and in a fully committed relationship by the end of the story through some art depicting their future together which is good. I just need to mention that Thirsty Suitors is a super charming and delightfully queer game that handles it's characters and themes very well and I highly recommend it. It's a game that celebrates queerness while also allowing it's characters to be heavily flawed and their relationships very messy, as seen with even Jala and Tyler.

2. Susie and Noelle, Suselle from Deltarune- Toby Fox has been a very supportive queer ally and with Undertale and Deltrune, his games have plenty of great queer representation. But while Undyne and Alphys from Undertale are ok, I honestly don't really like Alphys specifically and personally think Susie and Noelle from Deltarune are the much superior sapphic ship. Because both Susie and Noelle are both great characters and absolute cuties who deserve to be happy together! A super adorable story of blossoming young love and self discovery, dorky lesbian deer girl Noelle is head over hooves in love with the cool dinosaur girl from her school Susie. And while Susie does start off as a bully in chapter 1, it becomes clear that she has a lot of her own personal stuff that she's working through that is heavily implied to be from her home life but by the end of chapter 1 she makes some good friends in Kris, Ralsei and Lancer who actually understand her and she grows as a person. While she doesn't really interact Noelle with chapter 1, you do find out as Kris that Noelle has feelings for Susie when she asks them for more information on her. And it's chapter 2 that REALLY develops Susie and Noelle's relationship and gives them a lot of cute moments together, because Noelle actually joins Susie and Kris in going to the Dark World on their adventures this time. And through chapter 2, Susie and Noelle's relationship is developed incredibly well with all of Noelle's adorable blushing and freaking out around the girl that she loves, until the beautiful scene where Susie gets to rescue Noelle from being captured by Queen and they escape on a heart covered Ferris wheel of all things which gives them an incredibly sweet moment together that always makes me cry. Just seeing them these adorable young queer girls being awkward and falling in love for the first time is just so adorable and funny in the best way. And then afterwards, the thing that actually gives Noelle her courage to stand up to Queen is saving the love of her life Susie! AAAAAH I LOVE THEM AND THEY ARE PERFECT FOR EACHOTHER!!!! The only caveat is that Deltarune isn't finished yet and Susie and Noelle technically aren't together yet? But it's very obvious that their relationship is something that is being built towards and I am very excited to see how it develops in future chapters, what we've gotten already has been great though and has given us so many cute moments for Suselle.

Gregg and Angus, Grangus from Night in the Woods- The only MLM ship on this list because there is a distressing lack of MLM relationships in video games compared to there actually being a decent amount of WLW, especially with main characters. But Gregg and Angus are my overall favorite romantic relationship in all of video games. Night in the Woods is another game with some great queer representation, including it's main character Mae who is canonically pansexual which delighted me to find out as someone who is pan and she made it to the top of my Pan characters list from last year. But she doesn't get much of a romance besides meeting a girl that she has feelings for at a party that doesn't lead to much. Her best friend Gregg and his boyfriend Angus though, are also both main characters and their relationship actually gets a lot attention and development and it's handled beautifully. Their experiences accurately represent what it's like living as an openly gay couple in a small and not so understanding small town. Especially as they were the only queer people living there while Mae was away at college. A small town that also doesn't really have much going on, and they both want to move away where they can live a happy life together in a town where they will be supported and accepted more, where they can maybe meet other queer friends. It's an incredibly sweet and relatable story, and the 2 boys work their butts off at their jobs to make their dream of living that life together a reality. Which is why Mae's coming back home and bringing out the chaotic side of her best friend Gregg does bring some tension to their relationship, but she eventually realizes her mistakes and learns that she has to let them go. Gregg and Angus's relationship becomes even more sweet when you learn more about how they met, how Angus had a horrible upbringing with violently homophobic parents who didn't accept him, but then Gregg came into his life and saved him. And then also that scene where Mae talks to Gregg and he's worried that he isn't good enough for his boyfriend and Mae has to give him and uplifting talk. They just mean so much to eachother and they really bring the best out of eachother as well, with Gregg helping his shy boyfriend to come out of his shell a bit more, and Angus helping reel in his hyperactive boyfriend from getting a bit too wild. Gregg and Angus are so sweet and supportive of eachother, a beautifully written queer couple and my favorite ship from any video game.

But anyway, I hope all my fellow queers had a safe and happy Pride Month! And also that you enjoyed reading my list, I would recommend all the games that these ships are from to people. I LOVE A HC THAT ALEX STILL SUFFERS FROM HER INJURIES even though it's really not fair

I once read a fic (honestly I read every single one on chenrich tag on ao3 so I can call myself an insane expert) where author studies the situation where Alex gets the worst ending possible (no one believes her expect steph, she's single so steph leaves and ALSO ALEX PERMANENTLY INJURED). so yeah, alex ends up with her leg being fucked up, using a wheelchair, than towards the end a cane, I don't remember if she gets to walk properly in the end, but yeah it's dark and mostly depressing. but it gets better after all. AND I REALLY LOVED THIS FIC because it gives so much depth to alex's character and her perception on everything around her.

There is SO MUCH depth to explore re: what happened to Alex. I think that's one of the game's weakest points, to be honest; it doesn't really give the incident a lot of weight, if that makes sense? Jed confesses, Alex recovers (absurdly quickly), happy ending. But there's SO MUCH there!! Mentally and physically!! The reminders live on her body and will for the rest of her life, not to mention the psychological impacts of knowing all that Jed had done to her family. She can never un-learn that, and it has to just...plague her at first, you know? I think eventually she could make peace and move on, but I wish the game had given that more gravity.

I plan to share some of my future Chenrich HCs at some point! Right now they're all jumbled 😅 They're also RIDICULOUSLY self-indulgent, but hey, that's the fun of it!

I've read 3/4 of the forget-me-not comics and I've skimmed Steph's Story and Heatwaves! I wish I had liked them :// Unfortunately I really struggled with the characterization and storylines. With the exception of Steph's Story, I have a hard time with spinoff content that goes in separate directions. The comics for LIS1 worked because the game lends itself to multiverses. I don't feel that it meshes as well with TC! Alex's cat shirt from forget-me-not does live rent free in my head though 😄

Unlife is Strange: “Double Exposure” update  

So while I’m preparing the next chapters for Unlife is Strange, I thought I’d make an update post. Especially with Life is Strange: Double Exposure being announced.

Having worked on Unlife is Strange since 2020, I only had only one real curveball in 2021, when True Colors was announced. Before that, I had an entirely different arc for Steph Gingrich, writing her to be Rachel’s love interest. 

When True Colors was released, I ended up doing a full revamp of Steph’s arc and role; even giving her a power explaining how Steph could live her canon life, and go through what she did in the fic. In the current story, I’m even including Alex and Steph in the main plot. 

Will Double Exposure get the same treatment ?

That's actually a tough one. The easy answer would be “No” because Unlife's version Max and/or Chloe lived a radically different lived than what Double Exposure presents…but at the same time, the deal that applies to Steph could apply here.

Spoilers below

In Unlife is Strange, this is what happened with Max and Chloe.

In the “Route A” chapters — following a “Sacrifice Arcadia Bay/Parting Ways” timeline — Max and Chloe settled down in Seattle. Max is finishing school, and Chloe is a stay at home mom, raising their two year old son, William “Bill” Price Caulfield. 

In “Route B” chapters  — following a “Sacrifice Chloe/Redemption” timeline, Max is still raising Bill as a single mom, and working photography jobs, though not as prolific as Double Exposure presents her. Chloe has also awakened as a vampire shortly after her death…and has seeing Max in secret for years, while Max publicly keeps up the façade of Chloe being long dead.

It also turns out both Max and Chloe were involved with the Federal Bureau of Control (from Control) some time between 2014 to 2020, before Max retired…and eventually pulled back in. The full details will be revealed in future chapters. Point is, it doesn’t really fit where we see Max in Double Exposure.

The easy thing would just be to discount it, but my solution to include True Colors may work both ways. Which brings us back to Steph, and where it gets interesting.

Like I said, when I originally wrote Steph into this story, I planned for her to be Rachel’s love interest. When True Colors came out, I found a way to make it work and gave Steph a power of her own.

In Unlife, we’re introduced to a Steph who went on to become a stage actress in LA, and got into a toxic relationship with a rich and powerful influencer, before reuniting with Rachel after the latters vampire resurrection. This Steph had a troubled relationship with her father and stepmother, and hasn’t even heard of Haven Point…

Before  we eventually find out, Steph has a supernatural affliction, in that she has a Tulpa; a version of her that lived a radically different life after Arcadia Bay, than her canon counterpart. The “real” Steph is the canon!Steph who became a DJ in Haven Point, fell in love with Alex Chen, and doesn’t recall being a stage actress. This causes Steph to disappear and reappear between two different lives, causing her to blink out of people’s memories depending on what life she goes too.

The Tulpa!Steph is the one who Rachel falls in love with. Steph and her tulpa self aren’t initially aware of eachother, but recall their “other” eachother’s lives as if they were dreams. In the current storyline, Alex and Steph try to get to the bottom of Steph’s affliction, with the FBC reaching out to them.

This should explain it better.

So where does this leave Double Exposure ? As far as Unlife is concerned, it’s a radically alternate timeline. But depending on how it plays out, it may or may not be part of another tulpa effect. 

I may make my final decision when the game comes out, but don’t expect Safi to show up in Unlife any time soon.

TLDR: Maybe, but it won't be considered part of the fic's “main” timelines.

any thoughts about steph gingrich you wanna share? vague question i know, but im just curious if you have anything you were thinking about.

Hmmm....I think one of the most interesting things about True Colors is that Steph doesn't get to complete her arc unless Alex romances her.

We get a lot of love interests over the Life Is Strange series, and nearly every one gets to complete their arc regardless of their romance status.

Chloe can either accept her destiny and die on Monday like fate decided, or she can flip fate off and survive the storm at a great cost. Warren gets to share his feelings with Max. Cassidy get's to find someone she truly connects with. Finn's arc goes full circle and he once again gets ratted out by someone he cares about, or it goes a different way and Sean protects him from the police. Ryan can stand by Alex during the council meeting regardless of if he was romanced or not.

But Steph is different.

If you romance Ryan during your playthrough of True Colors, the game will end with Steph leaving Haven with "almost no warning" and the game will say that it hurt Alex. So, in other words, Steph is once again running from her problems, which is the exact same thing she was doing when the game started.

I think that's a super interesting direction to take a romancable character. It shows how much of an impact Alex has on Steph's life, and how much their relationship means to her. However, it's also shows without saying that Gabe was the only truly deep connection she made in her time at Haven before Alex arrived.

Steph's decision to keep running unless Alex gives her a reason to stay says SO MUCH about her character in all the most interesting ways, and there's so much to think about within her character when you take consideration that she's the only LIS love interest that stay's stagnant in her development unless she's romanced. It all makes for very good characterization.

Hello, my friend! 👋 Been a while! But yeah, I'm doing fine; a lot of the usual work with writing fic and blog posts in between.

Yeah it's funny to step away from a fandom you're so engrossed in for so long, like twdg was such a huge part of my life back in 2018-2020 with me running this blog, writing fic, and streaming. Now I'm just in a completely different headspace in general, and looking at the games now, they're still amazing but my reasonings are different. Also I talk about the comics a lot, which isn't something I would've guessed I'd be doing. If you go back to when they were announced, I made posts being like "yeeeeeah I dunno if I'm gonna read them :/" jokes on me. I read them multiple times, I need to make that useful haha.

As for LiS True Colors, I actually super loved it?? way more than I ever did the first LiS game?? though I think I might've loved it for the wrong reasons. I don't know, I haven't actually looked into what LiS fans thought of it compared to the other games, but for me it was a "perfect time, perfect place" game in the moment. To me the whole thing was nearly a perfect escapism game; the music is an A+, the entire town is gorgeous and covered in flowers and woods, Alex gets to live in a nice apartment for free [the true fantasy], there's a whole LARP campaign to play through, a flower festival where I've never been so conflicted on who to give a rose to, and overall just the coziest vibes. I swear, I spent most of the game just wandering around the town looking at all the flowers, it was great.

Like if Gabe didn't die and True Colors was just about Alex moving to this fantasy-like small town and working through her issues with the help of her powers, I would've been 100% on board. I didn't mind the mystery, though I totally guessed Jed would be the twist villain given the first episode immediately presents him as a hero who saved a bunch of people in the mines, I was like "Oh did he now... mmhmmm mmhmmm and he's Ryan's dad, oohhh he's gonna be this game's Jefferson-" except he was done better than Jefferson imo. He didn't turn into a cartoon character and his motivations behind the cover up were interesting. He didn't do it for the aesthetic like Jefferson did. And in the end I got everyone to side with me, except Charlotte because I told her to take the money so she wanted to speak out but couldn't, which was honestly fine with me like take their money, send Ethan to college, we'll stab Typhon just fine without your vocal support.

I liked most of the characters, except for Diane and Mac, though I reluctantly disliked Mac less by the end... Diane can suck an egg, though. I don't think I've ever wanted to throw a character out a window more than when Alex came back all bloodied with a bullet wound on her head as she exposed the truth and when she asks why no one's saying anything, Diane just goes, "We don't want to embarrass you" kjlkajdslkjalkjdl LADY DON'T PISS ME OFF

As for Ryan and Steph, I liked them both, trying to choose between them was absurdly difficult. It was like True Colors saw how easily I picked between Louis and Violet and took it as a challenge to create Ryan and Steph specifically to stump me. I mean, soft boy who loves nature, goes out of his way to be kind and helpful to those around him, has a slow build up to being emotionally available with someone he trusts, and has some daddy issues? A girl with pretty brown eyes who loves DnD and LARP, has a passion for music and will deflect with humor, who knows who she is and is eager to help those around her, and who isn't just another rehash of Chloe? They knew what they were doing; they dressed Steph up in as a witch after having Ryan act like a goof acting like enemy creatures, they were made for me.

Having done both routes, I do prefer Steph. I adore her and Alex together, but Alex and Ryan are super cute, too.

It's not a perfect game and there are issues in the writing but honestly, I don't care. I had a good time. I was engaged. I looked at every single flower and kissed a pretty girl so good that the world exploded. What a great game.

I agree that mer doesn’t want to be her mom and Cristina pointing that out is what prompted her to start the whole research but I do think that that Cristina could’ve delivered that argument a little differently. I don’t want her to coddle mer but I think some words were a little too much but Cristina has valid points.

I also agree that mer has issues separating work and personal and it bothers me mer has never been the one to make the first move to apologize. In season 5 after that argument it’s Cristina who comforts her after mer goes to Williams execution and had a breakdown that Derek couldn’t stop, so mer never actually took the first step.

In season 10, they have another argument and during the moments before aprils wedding, Cristina approaches mer and tells her that her life is different than mer but it’s just as hard because she’s doing it alone and she at least thought she’d have mer. Cristina is the one to say all of this and mer then confesses her jealousy and the two make amends but I didn’t like how mer didn’t make the first move again.

On the subject of Shane, he starts kissing up to Derek when his new crop of interns arrive at the hospital and he wants to be as talented and flashy as Derek. However, Derek notices a natural talent for neuro in heather brooks and he tells Ross that he’s gonna be focused on mentoring brooks from now on.

Shane is very jealous that brooks is now Derek’s student and in 9x19 he tells her “I know what you’re doing. You may think I’m too nice to do anything about it but you’re wrong. You can try snake neuro out from under me but just so we’re clear I’m not going down without a fight”.

Then in another episode Derek tells Ross that brooks is gonna be his primary student because she has a natural talent. Ross tells Derek that he can do better and work harder but Derek reiterates that brooks will be his focus.

In 10x1 Derek tells Ross to get brooks and find Webber. When Ross meets brooks he tells her that Derek said for her to find Webber. This sends her down to where the electric wires and water shock and kill her. Basically brooks dies by electrocution because Ross was so jealous and wanted her place under Derek.

Shortly after, Cristina takes Shane under her wing and he becomes fascinated with her intelligence and with cardio, so he stays on her service as much as possible. Working with yang and her crazy smart decisions in the OR make him feel empowered, and when he and Yang start sleeping together this only increases.

He eventually does things like fake more hours into the log to work more, and kisses Stephanie after they save a patient (knowing she was seeing Jackson and does it anyway right before Jackson walks in) which puts Steph in a difficult and stressful position

Then he makes the decision to operate on Alex’s dad which he has no business doing , and messes it up. Webber tries to fix it but later on Alex’s dad died because of sepsis related complication caused by Shane. Alex punches him a few times so that’s nice but still it bothered me that Shane never got consequences for killing brooks out of jealousy and killing Alex’s dad. Shane leaves later to learn under Yang though so that’s that - I just hate him so much I wish he was punished

Are you caught up on greys with Jackson and April though? A lot of situations in greys makes it easy to see both sides but in that case no one could make a case for April IMO - she was horrible and selfish to Jackson the whole time after they lost Samuel, and then left to work on Jordan because it made her “feel better” but she never considered his feelings or tried to approach him ever ?

Jackson tried to approach April many times after Samuel, like there’s this one scene he asks her to maybe try again and she goes “screw you” and leaves. April made samuels death all about her because she had a “faith” crisis, and never even thought about Jackson, who also lost his kid.

She goes to Jordan once and then comes back, then Jackson who’s been suffering silently all this time tells her if she go back to Jordan, he wont be here for her when she returns, which is more than fair. She leaves for Jordan again and returns and tries to “fight” for their marriage ?? Like lady, what are you thinking ?

In 12x11 they fight ;April says that Jackson wasn’t dying after Samuel like she was, and she needed Jordan to cope. Jackson says he was never coping but hid his pain to try and help her - April says she was taking care of herself to “survive” and Jackson eventually blows up and tells her that he’s not gonna wait forever for her and that she already left him twice and that he wants a divorce. April was so selfish and only thought about her pain and not her husbands and her faith doesn’t make her pain more important than Jackson’s.

Things happen after that lol but I just wanted to know if you were thinking the same about some of this ?

So, the whole Shane thing ... when I was looking up scenes of the season 10 fight on YouTube I saw other commenters having this, like, passionate hatred for Shane too and when you list everything he's done I'm just like ... I mean ... in the context of Grey's this seems as bad as other characters. Like, did you hate Alex?

Because tallying off the shit Alex has done? Because he wasn't thorough enough during the train accident episode, a woman dies from internal bleeding then he screws over Cristina with Webber. Because he gave Olivia the wrong directions, he fries a guy's brain then cheats on Izzie. He tells Owen about Meredith's messing with the trial, which gets her fired. He tells the husband of that patient that Addison tied her tubes when he knows that the patient begged Addison to do the procedure and couldn't tell her husband. He harassed Izzie by putting up her modelling photos, yelled at April when she didn't want to have sex, that time he gave Olivia and by extension George syphilis, telling the other interns that George was repeating his intern year. I wasn't even watching Grey's at this point but he beat the shit out of DeLuca then his exit from the show is leaving Jo a letter so he can be with Izzie? Lol, maybe Shane was annoying but other characters have been worse.

Also people being mad that Brooks died because Shane didn't go down to look for Webber, he didn't actively kill her, he had no idea that would happen, just say you wish he went down there and died instead.
