BUT there's also lumpia from Indonesia and the Philippines, Italian ravioli, Indian modak, Polish pierogi, South American empanadas (i fucking love empanadas), pasteles, Ukrainian vareniky, Botswanan madombi, British pasty. my point is if you don't read into it too intensely, this is for anyone.

it was intended to be such an intimate moment and in their eyes the official inauguration to your family, as well as the perfect entry point into learning about your culture that you’ve only grown stronger and more confident in with age. and what better way to immerse yourself in another’s culture than through food?

with that being said…they tried, they really did.

it seemed simple in theory, add a decent bundle of the filling to the center of the wrapper, fold the wrapper over itself, and apply the liquid adhesive to seal the seams, crimping, folding, or rolling the seams shut as needed. simple right?

well apparently not, there’s a tray full of “complete�� dumplings with tears in the dough and the filling either smeared or oozing out, over-filled, or not enough… and it's quite obvious who made those. the intricacy and swiftness that you and your parents achieved thus producing a quarter sheet pan’s worth, overwhelmed the poor baby. they certainly have their strengths lying primarily in physicality, but the agility and patience needed for such a small product outcome were not in their capabilities.

you reassured them that it wasn't uncommon to have such results, frankly, it was impressive for a first-timer that they didn't collapse from frustration. "you'll get it eventually, today you just relax." you consoled, rubbing your hand on top of theirs.

"plus, you're still considered a guest, you have plenty of time before you're officially let into the pack and forced to do the mountain of dishes or babysit." you chuckled.

to which they agreed, today their strengths would lie in being the human ladder to get objects from high-up places, refilling wine and liquor for the adults, providing sliced fruits, and just sitting at the table supervising the unspoken competition of who can make the most dumplings, replenishing scarce ingredients as needed to. salivating at the sight as well as the uncooked aroma from the fresh herbs and spices used. surrounded by family, engaging in lively or even profound conversations, no matter how shy they were initially.

rest assured, there’s nothing to be ashamed of, and maybe another time they’ll give it another shot, but for now, they’ll leave it to the pros.

EREN, JEAN ANNIE, GOJO, TOJI

their initial attempts were… admirable, but they weren’t satisfied with that. they wanted to do right by you, secure the approval of your family, and not feel absolute guilt at only contributing to the conversation and not the actual meal assembly process.

simply put, they're quite stubborn. they carefully studied each family member, the differing methods, and tendencies. from the angle of spooning the filling in the wrapper to the adhesive sealing— plain water vs. starch water?

they were determined, and with patience and encouragement from family, they were finally able to produce a perfect little flavor receptacle, savory and hearty. shrieking out an unexpected, "i did it!" that garnered a reaction that you couldn't help but laugh at either.

but they would not yet allow themselves even a minute victory until they garnered 100% of the acceptance, mainly from their own inner conflict of merit.

this may be their first time truly comprehending the phrase, ‘tasting the fruits of your labor’. and never had they had a sweeter meal, not in the literal sense of a saccharine feast. but the resolve and dogged attitude (stubbornness) was a taste that they would savor in the complete dish, something they would come to value greatly come the next culinary undertaking. "i made this!" they'd think to themself.

try not to be too surprised if you catch them in the early morning, meticulously crimping, folding, and rolling the edges of the wrapper, ensuring as little air as possible gets in the center, just as your grandmother taught them.

more than that it was an amusing sight seeing them nearly nude only wearing a pink frilly apron that you were gifted from relatives, "what do you think?" they teased, a question which you rolled your eyes at, considering they weren't asking about the food.

though you must admit, they did look incredible, for a rookie. and it was a beautiful sight to behold, an incredibly attractive person cooking in your kitchen, insistent on making you proud. i guess now the only issue lies in the lack of space in your freezer in contrast to the large batches of dumplings that are sure to last you months. let's hope this is an acceptable housewarming gift for the new neighbors.

BERTHOLDT, REINER, CONNIE , SUKUNA (hear me out), CHOSO

are we surprised? though they may not seem like the kinds to thrive in arts and crafts, their handiwork is nimble, and their dexterity is unmatched. they were initially slow to follow the instructions given to them, but after diligent observation, it was a task pursued and completed well. almost as if they too partook in similar repetitive affairs in their youth. sitting around the dining table, with heaps of filling and a lofty stack of dough wrappers, sometimes there’d be music in the back, but even if there was it would always be drowned out by the conversation that were being had. an endless variety of discussion topics, filled with light-hearted quarrels and absolute fits of laughter.

and if you’re being completely honest, it’s been approximately 5 minutes since the laughter erupted, and you can’t even remember what was so funny that you’re now clutching your stomach in what may be the best kind of pain, struggling to catch your breath and maintain composure. those were some of the memories you held dearly when you were younger, and it’s no different now. and with them by your side, falling in love over again with what seems like the acme of your joy, one they’d hope to preserve and maintain for as long as possible. a pride that one simply can't explain.

but where there is pride and inflated egos, there are grandmothers and aunties to humble you, making remarks comparing your tray to your partners.

"wowww, this is your first time, and they look perfect!" they'd exclaim, making their way around the table. "you should take lessons from them." they'd continue teasing you, whilst pinching your partner's cheek or slapping them on the back just a little too hard.

by the end of the feast, your partner certainly got the elders' approvals, no less by your parents, who absolutely adore them. it’s also a food they loved eating, lovingly introduced by you, and now you’ve made them even more of a fiend then they already were. fully enjoying the bonding experience this has facilitated, as well a first-hand experience to the little things that helped maintain your cultural identity.

and they would be lying if they weren’t completely consumed by the thought that one day you would be the ones your ancestors depended on to carry on the traditions. with the future generations of your bloodline, if not your own children by preference, then your nieces, nephews, and cousins, who are currently wrapped around their very finger. to them, a jungle gym to be climbed, a pristine and willing model for a family-renowned makeup artist, an unsuspecting outsider that could be the green light for some sweets that the parentals refused earlier, but they don’t need to know that.

A/N: This has been a long time coming. I couldn't quite figure out how I wanted to end it, but I hope you enjoy anyway!

This is not meant to be a reflection of the real person that was portrayed in the Boys in the Boat. It is a work of fiction.

Caroline was going to absolutely murder her roommate the second that she saw her again. It had been Annie's idea to come to the party held in honor of the rowing crew, something that Caroline hadn't paid much attention to before the evening had begun.

"You have to come with me," Annie had pleaded. Placing her hands on her hips, she twirled around on one heel to face Caroline, almost bumping into the dresser in their shared room. "You never come to these things with me and I am desperate for a night out with my best friend."

Caroline had immediately folded much to her own dismay. It was true that she didn't normally go out the way that Annie did, not nearly as social as she was, but also because she was focused on earning her degree.

Annie had clapped her hands excitedly and proceeded to dress Caroline up in her cutest dress, going so far as to apply her makeup for her so it looked pristine. Now, as she stood along the wall of the party she regretted agreeing to Annie for a plethora of reasons.

Reason one, her friend was on the other side of the room talking to one of the crew whose name Caroline couldn't remember, not beside Caroline.

Reason two, the boy who she had politely declined multiple times for a date had seen her and was making a bee-line in her direction.

Caroline arched her neck trying to make eye contact with Annie and motion that she was in need of assistance but Annie was too wrapped up in her own conversation to see past the taller man.

She contemplated making a run for the exit as the boy from her class stood directly in front of her with a bright smile. She tried to force her expression into something pleasant as she tried to remember his name.

"Caroline!" He greeted loudly, throwing his arms out wide and causing the liquid in his cup to slosh over the side and onto the floor.

"Hello," she returned with what she hoped was a smile and not a grimace. His own expression faltered with her failure before brightening again through his building confidence.

"How are you?" He continued, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I feel like I never see you outside of class. Do you normally come to these? Or are you here just to see me?"

Caroline forced a laugh out of her dry throat and took a small step out of his touch, "I'm here with my roommate, Annie."

"Oh, really?" He took a step closer to her as he pulled his arm back to himself. "I don't see her."

She looked up quickly to the last place she'd seen her friend and sure enough, Annie's distinct form had disappeared in the morphing crowd.

"Oh, well she is-"

"Say, do you want to dance with me?" He asked, interrupting her.

She blinked.

Taking her silence as a yes, he grabbed at her wrist and went to pull her after him onto the dance floor. Somewhere along the way, he'd rid himself of his glass and used the extra hand to twirl her into his embrace with a flourish.

As he did, Caroline felt her heel catch and she tripped slightly. It placed her much closer to him than she had ever wanted to be. He tightened his grip on her waist and began leading her in a dance that she didn't recognize. She searched each face for Annie but had to glance at him as he tightened his grip on her again.

"You know, you never did tell me why you couldn't go on that date with me. I think we'd get along really well together and obviously it would look really good for me to have a woman that looks like you do by my side with the career that I'm going into," He said, his gaze crawling all over her skin. "After this dance how about you and I go someplace quiter and -"

"Excuse me."

Caroline's gaze locked onto the man beside her. He was tall, much taller than the boy from her class. His eyes were soft on hers but hardened as he turned to look at the boy.

"Mind if I cut in?" He didn't wait for the boy to answer, instead gently moving Caroline out of the boy's tight grip and into his secure one.

"You're the stroke seat for that boat from today." The boy from her class paled slightly as she was pulled from his grasp. The man said nothing, looking to her instead and searching her gaze. "Listen bud, I didn't realize she was with you."

The man looked away from her for a moment as the boy from her class continued to ramble on about not wanting any trouble. He stared at him for a moment until the boys eyes widened and he stumbled away from them.

He turned back to face her, pulling her into a slow sway to match the other couples on the dance floor. "Are you alright?"

Caroline nodded, suddenly unable to meet his brown eyes and instead focusing on the dark strands of his hair that fell forward as he tipped his head down closer to hers. His expression twisted, seemingly unsatisfied with her response.

He'd seemed large in comparison to the boy from her class, but left alone with him she seemed all too aware of how much bigger he was physically than she. But, when their eyes met again, she noticed how he seemed to be making himself smaller while talking to her, so as to make her more comfortable she realized.

"I'm Don," he offered after a moment.

"The stroke seat?" She commented, remembering what the boy from earlier had mentioned. "I'm Caroline."

"Caroline," he repeated. Her name swirling around in his voice and filling something inside of her. "I apologize if I overstepped, you just seemed uncomfortable."

The heat from his hand at her waist spread up her spine and she shivered with the pleasure of it. "Was I so obvious?" She asked.

"Not to him," he huffed, his lips twisting up on one side.

She laughed softly and looked away. "Can I tell you something?" She asked after a moment of gentle swaying.

"Hmm?"

"I couldn't remember his name for the life of me and by the time I found myself out here, it was too late to ask." Caroline drank in the sight of Don's smirk growing into a full smile as he smothered a laugh between his lips.

"His name's Jim," he managed out.

Caroline shrugged, "I don't really know that it matters any more."

"No?" Don's eyes lit up. "Why's that?"

"I'm dancing with you, aren't I?" She asked, looking between the space between them that had shrunk during their conversation.

"You are," he agreed, squeezing her waist softly in his hands.

Caroline had a feeling as he twirled her around at the start of the next song, that she'd be in his arms for a long time to come.

(I hope my English is as understandable as possible) I'm embarrassed to ask this but I was constantly asked how the SCP staff would react If they meet an androgynous person for the first time D:

Your english was great! I actually have a lot of ideas for this at the moment, but this is the first time I’ve gotten a request, so it might not come out right. I wrote this generally as the non-binary or genderfluid type of androgynous, but I think it applies just the same to people who just look androgynous :)

Clef:

Clef is probably pretty understanding, but that doesn’t make you exempt from one-liners that cross the line. I imagine Clef will make a lot of pop-culture references, so there’ll be no direct insults, but you may be called the names of famous androgynous people. Be prepared to answer to Annie Lennox or Boy George at least once. No matter your identity, he’ll call you the name of whoever your hair is closest to. Since you’re the first androgynous person Clef meets, you’ll be hearing it a lot, since he has no one else to tease. However, Clef’s insults are not reflective of their opinions, because Clef insults everyone. I think he’d almost like working with an androgynous person more? To Clef, your appearance would be a plus in certain field ops and Foundation situations, so Clef’d probably want you on their MTF.

If you work directly under Clef, he’d be fun and terrifying, just like normal. He’d definitely have an issue with anyone who made fun of your appearance and was serious about their comments, but he’d find a roundabout way of scarring them mentally for life :)

Kondraki:

If it was just seeing you in passing, Kondraki wouldn’t care. If it was working with you, I don’t even know if he’d notice. Kondraki is notoriously bad at names, which makes me think he’s probably also not great at faces. He seems like the type of guy who would take 4 months to notice your hair is firetruck red, so I wouldn’t worry about Kondraki at all. He only cares about if you are hardworking, if you’ll do his paperwork for him, and if you’ll change the coffee filter.

That being said, you’re the first androgynous person Kondraki is meeting. Since you look different from most of the people he works with, he’d probably love taking pictures of you because you’re a unique muse for photos.

Iceberg:

Iceberg will absolutely open the conversation with an insult about your appearance. How you respond will determine how he views you, almost like he was testing you. For best results, answer calmly, confidently, and do not reply with another insult, as he seems quite sensitive. His “Why do you look so weird?” would best be countered with a simple “I don’t know, but I like it!” or something along those lines. He will probably roll his eyes and not say anything else, but he will speak to you again in the future. However, I don’t think Iceberg would have an issue with you looking androgynous at all. I think he’s lacking a filter, and will say whatever pops to mind in a sort of mean way. He was simply acknowledging that you look different to what he is used to, but I think he’d like the style. If you end up becoming friends, he may begin to emulate aspects of your style. He would definitely gift you a scarf sometime to see you you’d style it so he could copy it for future reference.

Gears:

Gears is a short one because he wouldn’t care, or at least, he wouldn’t let anyone know. He is cold, reserved, and respectful, and treats you exactly the same as he treats most researchers. Even if you were working directly below him and he got closer to you, I don’t think he’d acknowledge your appearance except to tie it back to work. “Your hair is a mess, I suggest sleeping at your apartment tonight instead of on a couch” or something like that. Never a comment he wouldn’t make to someone else. However, I think he’d compliment you if you ever changed your hair/makeup/wardrobe, so he definitely notices and thinks positively of it.

Shaw:

Shaw would LOVE it. She’s been genderfluid for a very long time due to 963, so it would probably be a shock to them when they saw a person who looked gender-neutral and/or androgynous. But, it would be a pleasant surprise. He’d probably invite you to tea sometime or some sort of poker event, but you two are besties for the resties.

Shaw would definitely confide in you about their issues related to 963 very quickly, but they’re a decent judge of character and wouldn’t overwhelm you with their struggles. She will absolutely recruit you into her pranks, and sometimes play some on you.

Rights:

Rights would also love you, but it’s because she’d have so many ideas. She’s fashionable, and would have so much fun giving you ideas, whether it be for an everyday casual office outfit, or a formal suit or dress. If you worked directly with Rights, she’d be very low drama with you.

Glass:

Glass is a therapist, so he’ll probably be pretty happy to see that you are doing something that makes you comfortable. He might be able to give you advice on how to deal with some other staff who aren’t as accepting. Glass is a pretty short one because I can’t imagine him caring about your appearance past making sure that you felt comfortable in your skin.

Hey! Thanks for feeding my butcher x annie obsession lol. They could have explored so much with them in the show sadly the writers just abandoned their dynamic after s2.

Incoming big rant I am sry I had to share with someone who is equally obsessed with them.

Annie being the person who is throwing a stone at his idea of "All supes are bad" and butcher being the violent dude he is- showing people around him and annie that he too has goodness deep in his heart.

Idk if you remember, but at the end of S2- butcher basically gives the necklace (which was gifted to him by becca and he always wears it all the time) to Ryan as a way of accepting becca's death. There is also this scene where annie and hughie talk and hughie asks why she isn't wearing the necklace she used to have ( gifted by her mom, it had a cross- showing her faith in Christianity) whether she has been losing faith in God. She goddamn says that if a man like butcher could have goodness in his heart, I believe that higher power exists. I am not even kidding. They have so many parallels in their personality. Such a wasted dynamic honestly. I don't wanna see them fuck (If they did, I wouldn't mind lol) , I would have loved their relationship even if they do show it was completely platonic.

Some opinions of mine that I think you would agree on:

• The writers could have aged up Annie's character around like early 30s (since writers seem so afraid of age gap relationships) I thought she was too young to be joining into the group considering how other members are too old af to be working with her ( they could have shown that she was only selected cuz they needed somebody in the Seven who are not star graduates from Godulkin University-along with the reasons the show already has said) .

• I also think the writers easily could have made Annie/hughie fully platonic. I am not a big fan of their supposed romance, it just falls flat for me and they don't compliment very well. They could have been one of the best male/female friendships on TV but they had to make it romantic 😕.

I also wish butcher x annie could have the same popularity as homelander x starlight ( I ship that too btw). Like imagine the love triangle potential with this 😭✋.

But also the opposite applies, because Annie has shown to be capable of violence and of making tough (one could even say, selfish) decisions when her loved ones were in danger. She is not just some naive do-gooder that is afraid of getting her hands dirty. Or at least, not anymore. She has also seen the worst of the world, and she is capable of understanding where Butcher comes from, even if she cannot agree with his methods. Idk, I feel like they are two sides of the same coin and at any moment they might flip. When you least expect, Butcher can be kind, and whenever is necessary, Annie can be ruthless.

(Kinda random, but there's a scene in Netflix's Daredevil S02 when Frank Castle tells Matt that "You're one bad day from being me." and, to me, that also applies to Butcher and Annie)

S2 NECKLACES OMG. HOW DID I MISS THAT PARALLEL? The scenes are even one after the other!!! I'm dying. I shall have to gif it later. It's kinda funny because we really only got one episode of Butcher and Annie interaction (2.06), and Becca is still around, but season two was so good to us with all the parallels. During s01, you could say it was just a crack ship, but s02 really showed how well they bounce off each other.

And...though you didn't mention, one of the reasons I hated s03. That was a wasteland. So many plots, and none of them being properly developed. And the Butcher x Maeve, which not only was random, but never went anywhere!!! That whole storyline should've been Annie's, it would fit so well with the previous season and I'll never stop complaining about it.

They have great chemistry, they work as enemies, frenemies, bffs, lovers, whatever dynamic you want. What's criminal is keeping them apart when their individual stories would benefit from each other so much.

I completely agree that Hughie and Annie could've (and should've) been platonic. Besides the undeniable lack of chemistry, it would've benefited both their stories. A Hughie that is still in love with Robin but sees how Butcher's methods are extreme is a lot more interesting than one that immediately falls in love with another girl after his girlfriend died. And then, there's all the times they broke up and got back together two episodes later that were just frustrating. S03 especially, with Hughie's obsession with being stronger (ugh, can you tell how much I hate s03?). But even s04, i felt bad for him too, but how the fact he slept with someone else that pretended to be Annie was just brushed aside and implied she would forgive him? That annoyed me. And it's not even about Hughie being on the right or wrong, just that they create one drama per season for Hughie and Annie, and it's boring. I'd rather they be friends or have a "will they-won't they" relationship where they only get together on the last episode. That would've been better.

I don't ship starlight x homelander, but I agree that Butcher and Annie NEED to be more popular. This ship gives EVERYTHING and people are sleeping on it. It's criminal.

Snuffle's Friend and Bioessentialism

I have a lot of mixed feelings about how gender is portrayed in Gunnerkrigg Court- specifically, the Chester students who were formerly animals.

Andrew tells Snuffle that “When a fairy becomes human, they get to stay as girls, but when any other animal goes through the change, they always become male.” This is verified and explained by the facilitator, “The court demands balance. 50/50 male/female split, you see. And since all the fairies are female, that means the rest must be male!”’

So already we’re introducing the Court being very fixated on a gender (and sex) binary. I’m not opposed to the Court having misguided, rigid ideas of gender- although I do think it contradicts some of the earlier established ethos of personal freedom the Court was founded under. As Reynard says to Kat after she tells him of her relationship with Paz, “You’re lucky. The Court was founded by people who intentionally left humanity. The rules are different here and, for better or worse, the usual constraints of society do not really apply.”

So gay relationships have been addressed, but not trans people. There being some internal contradiction, or blind spots within the Court isn’t a bad thing, either. But those same blind spots are repeated by every member of the cast. Snuffle refers to her friend as “she” when she’s a rabbit, then Andrew and Antimony refer to said friend as “him” when said friend becomes human.

Now, Snuffle’s friend was an animal- you can absolutely make an argument she wouldn’t care one way or the other about her gender! As said in the comic: Andrew asks if she knows she’ll be assigned male by the court, Snuffle translates that, “She doesn’t care.”

But other people around her do. Annie asks: “This is… him?” There’s no discussion with her about which pronouns she wants; other people decide for her that she’s a boy now, since she’s been, literally, assigned male by the Court. And the Chester students show no idea of anything other than binary genders, and that physical sex determines gender- as one student says, “The boys ain’t very good at it, but the ones that used to be fairies can do all sorts of stuff.”

And this sticks out to me, because the argument that as an animal, Snuffle’s friend wouldn’t care about gender- hasn’t been brought up with any other being, to my knowledge? I can’t think of any etheric entities that use they/them pronouns, or are described as genderless, or having an ambiguous or apathetic relationship to gender. Certainly not any students- even Shadow and Robot are both exclusively referred to with he/him, despite neither being human. And like, of course this reflects the worldview of characters like Annie and Kat! But it’s never challenged within the universe of the story.

It really seems like the author just doesn’t think about nonbinary genders, or transgender people in general. Which is a pretty glaring oversight, in a story about magical creatures, including myths and legends! Nevermind a story with a huge cast of human characters!

I recently reread the first half of Gunnerkrigg Court, and this line by Reynardine stood out to me: “Well, the mind is nothing but a plaything of the body, correct?” Which fits very well in a story about ascending physical forms- the robots becoming flesh, Annie reaching out into the Ether, etc. There can be a great discussion about how ones physical, tangible experience of being in a body influences your perspective of the world.

But this specific quote can also really communicate a bioessentialist, binary view of gender, too. One’s self is determined by the body you live in. And this has only been emphasized with the formerly animal students of Chester: they are boys now because their bodies are male.

I can so easily imagine a different story, where Snuffle’s friend insists she’s still a girl- where the other Chester students easily accept this as fact, because why would fairies and other magical creatures have the same cultural biases and hang-ups as humans? Or even Snuffle’s friend saying that it doesn’t really matter to him which pronouns people use, because he doesn’t have a strong conception of gender, and doesn’t inherently feel like a man or woman. Either one would have at least brought up the subject of gender as a cultural construction. There could be discussion of how arbitrary, even cruel the Court is being, controlling peoples’ bodily autonomy in this way.

But there isn’t. Gender in Gunnerkrigg Court is determined by sex- both of which are viewed as a binary.

(Sex is not a binary either, I’m using male/female here as socially defined categories, too.)

(If anyone who’s kept up with the more recent (like last 30) chapters can think of an exception, or actual discussion of the ways in which sex does not equal gender, then please let me know! I’ve been reading more off and on since like. 2019.)

Alright, so, i started with Armin's last name.

And thanks to their descriptions, i started the process to create the Spidersona of Armin.

As their name states, Zebra Jumpers are able to jump 5 times their bodies, and also they don't use spiderweb as a hunting technique that much.

Usually, Spiderman is unable to make spiderweb by himself, so he creates a spiderweb launcher to be able to move around the city.

And i thought it suits Armin to try and build some "machinery" to help him as well! Mostly because it has been shown that he has a certain interest on mechanics/engineering (Helping Marco to fix his ODM, helping Hange to make the thunder spears, etc) And also applying the fact that the spider that bit him was a jumper type, it would add to his natural abilities.

He can stick to walls (like a normal spiderman), heals pretty quickly, and all that jazz, but also has the ability to jump way more high than a average human (Around 60 meters or 197 ft because it would be a fun wink to his colossal titan of the og show/manga).

And with that, he creates his own spiderweb to function like a hook and be able to move around the buildings easily and at high speed. The belts around his body not only work as a reference to the original uniform from the manga/show, but also to help him to stay stable when he moves around the city.

Other thing i added is his pilot hat, it was only seen on official art from the show where he is depicted as a engineer (again) and as a "plane pilot"

The colors are red brownish because of his colossal (in the show) and of the actual spider (the brown). And the white is mostly to have a contrast, and the spider as well!

Extra things ig

• Eren is an absolute fan of Spiderman and only gets Armin flustered for all his compliments and merchandise that he boughts.

• Also, Armin can't lie to Eren and Mikasa, so is harder to be around them sometimes.

• I had the idea to be not only his grandfather's death his "canon event" but also that Erwin died and he was saved in his place as well, maybe Erwin was a mentor figure or something, i am not sure.

• I thought of Annie might be like the Gwen Stacy of his world, which of course, ends badly. Also, Eren as his MJ because ✨ Eremin ✨

You, coming off as intimidating with your RBF and cold exterior? Nanami is right there with you. As handsome as he is, he is so stony-faced, serious, and imposing that others are often hesitant to even approach him. However, he isn’t the type to become intimidated by someone’s cool exterior himself; especially when you’re his student or junior. He has no qualms interacting with you whatsoever. And, really, it’s not too terribly long before you begin to open up into someone warmer and more playful. Nanami quite enjoys seeing you open up to him bit by bit; it’s a pretty noticeable difference, so he’s glad when he sees that you’re comfortable enough with him to drop the distant front. Although, once you’re comfortable around him… he’s subjected to you goofing off and saying out-of-pocket things. He’ll roll his eyes and complain, but he’s secretly fond of it deep down.

When you playfully suggest violence as a solution, Nanami responds so seriously that it’s comical. Since he’s so deadpan with his humor, it’s almost hard to tell if he’s serious or not in his response (he’s smart enough to know that you’re just joking around… at least, you’re probably joking… but it all depends on the situation, right?). You’ll casually suggest to Megumi that he should just beat up the next person who bumps into him in the street and acts all rude and snooty about it; a nearby Nanami simply speaks up with a stern “absolutely not” before going into detail how much trouble Megumi (or you) would get into by doing such an act. Megumi’s rolling his eyes and internally complaining about the reprimand (he didn’t even ask for this!) but you’d probably just end up laughing because of how seriously Nanami responds to your quips, regardless if he’s joking or serious.

If you’re the type to enjoy deep, interesting conversations, Nanami is a great option. He’s smart, thoughtful, and has gotten a variety of experiences under his belt. He has definitely done some reflection on his past experiences, considering that he’s come up with his own personal philosophy about youth and adulthood - and really, he quite enjoys discussing deeper topics, as long as he enjoys his conversation partner, that is. The conversation doesn’t even have to be particularly philosophical, either. If he’s on good terms with you, he’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on just about anything. Nanami would also be open to debates, or tactical conversations centered around the best strategies for certain types of enemies and situations. The only other person who hovers around Nanami often is Gojo, and he is not going to bother talking with Gojo if he’s not in the mood. You’re absolutely a breath of fresh air for him - most of the time, at least, considering you’re prone to goofing off and exasperating him yourself!

He appreciates that you’re so willing to learn and grow as a person. Nanami has met plenty of people who don’t apply themselves, people who get complacent and ultimately stagnate. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it can be a frustrating and dangerous mindset to jujutsu sorcerers. So, he admires your initiative when it comes to asking him for tips and advice. That being said, he believes that experience is the best teacher. He’ll offer guidance when needed, step in when he thinks a mission is too dangerous, but he’ll let you make your own discoveries and mistakes. You won’t get anywhere by someone holding your hand the whole time, after all, and jujutsu sorcerers don’t lead easy lives. Not that you would let him coddle you, anyway - you’re determined to carve your own path and master your own abilities. It wouldn’t be the same if you didn’t put the effort in yourself.

Nanami is quite interested in your skill in martial arts. A significant portion of his fighting style includes hand-to-hand combat, so it’s not surprising that he becomes interested in your abilities and how you incorporate your training into your combat style on the field. In fact, the two of you could learn a lot from each other based on your fighting styles and previous training. Perhaps this is where you most often ask him for tips and guidance; a good sparring match here and there keeps both your and his skills sharp between missions. And perhaps it’s a way of bonding or flirting… On a different, yet similar topic, you have a long history in other athletics and willing to try out other active hobbies - he won’t press too much, but he’s intently listening to you as you ramble off all the different sports you’ve done or at least attempted.

Nanami is acutely aware of your habits and fidgeting, but it doesn’t bother him. Perhaps it’s because he’s gotten used to it, or perhaps it’s just because it’s you, but he genuinely doesn’t think much about how you often run your hands through your hair, mussing it up, or bouncing your leg while sitting. At first he might’ve considered it to be distracting, even mildly bothersome, but that ebbed away once he started becoming more fond of you. He might question if you’re feeling antsy or nervous, but if you insist that it isn’t nervous fidgeting then he’ll leave it be. Still, even as his eyes catch your figure as you perform those habitual tics, he simply just sees it as you being you. It means things are normal, you’re feeling fine, and things are as they should be.

He would totally vibe to the 80s and 90s rock you put on while chilling out at home. You have a way of making the space you’re relaxing in feel like you. It’s the way you get comfortable, how your band t-shirts reflect your music taste, how you enjoy getting comfortable in sweatpants and hoodies. Both you and Nanami struggle with taking yourselves too seriously at times, but it’s important to take some time to relax and not worry about expectations, how people perceive you, or the missions coming up in the near future. He’s a bit envious how quickly you can just get comfortable - but the more time he spends with you, in your own space, or in a space the two of you create together, he feels that relaxing becomes more and more natural. And it all starts with that 80s or 90s rock; he can’t help but bop his head right along to the beat.

Nanami graciously accepts whatever gifts you’ve gotten him, large or small. He is quick to pick up that gift giving is how you show your affection for him. And, while he’s not naturally the gift giving type, he does make a serious effort to reciprocate. If you’re giving him a gift, it’s only natural that he should return the favor, yes? And he does surprisingly well picking out thoughtful gifts. He tends to lean towards more practical objects, but sometimes he will pick something up on a whim that reminds him of you, or something that he feels would make you think of him when you look at it. Nanami’s main love language would be quality time, which isn’t surprising considering that he really tries to lock down on the time and effort he’s putting into work. Once you’re his partner, his resolve to avoid overtime only solidifies further - he has to dedicate time to spend with you, after all.

Unpopular (?) opinion: I think Mary is massively overlooked by fandom. I mean, the woman was having this whole arc throughout the series which was so narratively satisfying and her character was just so excellent. Maybe it’s because I really latched into her and her arc of overcoming her trauma and absolutely Owning every second she was on screen. I don’t see nearly as much art or fan works about Mary as I do the others (and I suppose the same can be applied to Fanny tbh). She was just such a badass. And I know she wasn’t in this season but still. Fandom usually has very long memories. Maybe it’s just my corner of the fandom though.

I think if anything it has to do with the fact that she passed on. I was never really a big fan of Mary, I didn’t dislike her or anything she just didn’t interest me, but I think her and Fanny are really underrated in general, like you said. And it sucks when your fav isn’t the top character- I can relate with Rachel Fawcett (I mean she hasn’t even spoken so I can’t expect much) but I think it just comes down to leaving the show and not being the most popular initially. She’s got lots of stuff with Robin and Annie, I think

No bc your post about season 3’s writing is so true. I kinda hope in s4 we see Hughie and Annie at least like… actively communicate and work through some of their issues in a healthy(ish) way? Because they kinda just brushed it under the rug and everyone seemed to forgive him for the murder spree at the end of the season because he “did the right thing in the end”

its just. it seems like communication is only necessary when the plot wants to use it to pit them against each other. and since this season they wanted to frame hughie as being in the wrong he has to communicate or it's a betrayal, but annie doesn't, and it's never adressed

i love them so much and want them to be healthy and happy but the writers have GOT to stop with this whole double standard thing they started this season in which hughie is in the wrong for everything but annie and kimiko aren't for doing the exact same things. just. let my boy off the hook. let them all be batshit insane morally grey murderers without randomly blaming only one of them for it. please.

i don't mind them forgiving him for the murder spree personally because i don't necessarily think they should've held it against him that much in the first place (despite what the way the show framed it, homelander WAS the priority. they framed it as hughie and butcher being irrational and excessive for working w sb when they were objectively & strategically right

just. mm and annie being pissed at them for working with sb to stop homelander makes about as much sense as. like. if hughie and annie in s2 absolutely refused to accept a-train's help to stop stormfront bc of what he did to robin. that would've been counterproductive, not to mention incredibly fucking stupid, bc stormfront was obviously more powerful, and a much, MUCH bigger threat, + those files were the one way to destroy her. here it's the same. homelander is becoming a bigger threat by the second and sb seemed like the one thing that could stop him. working with him long enough to stop homelander is just prioritizing issues. its just. god. that whole thing is so fucking stupid.

and the temp v?? the fucking. the way they framed the temp v as such an evil thing from the get go and actively punished hughie and butcher for using it when it also. works??? like they obviously had to add in the fact that its killing them to make it actually wrong to use it but like. they didn't know that. and before they knew about it it genuinely just works. within a few days of using it they came closer to destroying vought and killing homelander than they had after almost a decade of trying like. someone said this before but they could've just as well framed it as hughie and butcher selflessly sacrificing themselves with the temp v in a noble attempt to destroy homelander for the greater good and it would've also worked. the forced morals in this whole season were all over the place.

the one thing hughie could've more successfully been framed as being in the wrong for doing imo is the whole not communicating with annie mm etc thing, but like we said, if this only applies to hughie and nobody else gets blamed for not communicating then it just! it doesnt work! it doesnt!!

the whole show is built on insane not so morally good people doing insane not so morally good things. the boys were never supposed to be morally pure good guys. they've done terrible things and the only one ever bothered by it was hughie. why are we suddenly imagining this moral high ground that was never there in s1 or s2 it's just.

annie didn't care about what hughie did with the boys in s2 she was just upset that he didn't tell her and hid stuff from her, which WORKED in s2 because annie DID tell him about what she was up to, the communication was one-sided which is why she was upset sometimes, which is not the case in s3!!! and butcher, i mean, the others might've tried to stop him from doing terrible things sometimes but they didn't expect him not to do them. they didn't hold a grudge. butcher was always extremely clear about his intentions. and annie's no saint either she blackmailed gecko she killed a man it's what makes her fun too she's a murderer they're all murderers but her argument not to work w sb is that he's a murderer i just DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE THINKING WHEN THEY WROTE THIS SEASON. sorry i got carried away. i have. lots of thoughts)

Hi hello, got a little bit more stuff to do and a little hectic around the café again. They are the reason for this, so I didn't get to introduce them yet, but you maybe have seen me mention them already?

I have two more guys adopted to my really not little anymore family:
