Updated QSMP AO3 Work Language Stats-- as of July 9th, 2023
Hello! Doing an update to my June 6th, 2023 QSMP AO3 stats post going over the languages QSMP works are tagged with, one month (approx.) later. Feel free to refresh yourself with last month's data, as I'll be referencing it throughout this post.
We're just going to start off with the plain stats, and then we'll do comparisons to a month ago as well as analysis. The analysis will probably be similar to last time, as I don't think a ton has changed. Long post ahead!
Fun tidbits at the start:
QSMP has 2147 works as of today (July 9, 2023)! That's a difference of 714 works from the original 1433 works, so about a 50% increase.
English is still the most commonly tagged language, and its percentage has actually gone up a small amount since last month. Brazilian Portuguese has also gone up to 3.07%, while Spanish has slightly decreased in terms of percentage.
Some new languages added to the mix! There's now one work written in Malaysian Malay, and French finally has some works.
Speaking of! There's now works in all of the four spoken languages on the server :D
I used the same methodology as last time, which was to manually filter by each language I expected to have works, then do the math to make sure I wasn't missing any. You can check the previous post to find that info as well as how I got my AO3 total works stats.
Okay! Now onto numbers:
Getting into the stats:
QSMP Works
[Image Description: A table with three columns; the first lists languages, the second the number of works, and the third the percentage of total works. For the languages column, each language is listed first in that language and then in English in parentheses, and English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and French are all color-coded to indicate that they are spoken on the server. End ID.]
The most commonly tagged language, like I said above, is English, with 1751 works or 81.56% of total works in the QSMP fandom tag.
The second most commonly tagged language is Spanish, with 317 works and 14.76% of the fandom. Next is Brazilian Portuguese at 66 works and 3.07%.
French has works now! There are 5 works, which is about 0.23% of works in the fandom tag.
And the next four are not spoken on the server, but several are unsurprising (discussed in the previous stats post, but reiterated below): Mandarin at 3 works and 0.14%, Russian at 2 works with 0.09%, Latin at 1 work with 0.05%, Esperanto at 1 work with 0.05%, and Malaysian Malay at 1 work with 0.05%.
Preliminary observations! English, like I said, has gone up a bit in terms of percentage, as has Brazilian Portuguese, while Spanish has gone down. It's not a huge percentage difference, but I'll discuss my limited theories as to why that change might've happened.
The only really new language this month, as French was expected to get works since it's spoken on the server, is Malaysian Malay. I don't know a ton about Malay in general, so I don't want to speak too much about it in terms of population, but if any Malay speakers or Southeast Asians familiar with it have anything to add, feel free! This work is a translation of an English work by the same author, which is rad; I'll talk a bit more about translations below. Otherwise I don't have any particular observations other than wanting to note that it's a new language and I'm happy to see it!
Across All fandoms
[Image Description: The same table as above, this time with numbers for all fandoms across AO3. End ID.]
The most commonly tagged language is English at 10,154,701 works and 89.31% of all works on AO3.
Spanish has 133,743 works and 1.18%
Brazilian Portuguese has 31,218 works and 0.27%
French has 53,917 works and 0.47%
Mandarin has 638,576 works and 5.61%
Russian has 241,121 works and 2.12%
Latin has 165 works and 0.0015%
Esperanto has 106 works and 0.00093%
Malaysian Malay has 119 works and 0.001%
I don't have a ton of new observations for this, as I don't think any changes were all that significant, and QSMP is so much smaller than the total works that comparison is more helpful in terms of indicating which languages are typically used on the site versus commonly spoken languages, which don't always align.
Changes Since Last Month:
[Image Descriptions: Two tables, identical to those above aside from the numbers in each cell. One is the QSMP numbers from last month, as linked at the top of the post. One is the QSMP numbers for this month, as displayed above. End ID.]
Like I said above, English, Brazilian Portuguese, and French have gone up in terms of percentage while Spanish has gone down.
Mandarin and Russian have both gained one work each, and Latin and Esperanto have stayed at one work.
New language! Malay has gained one work, a translation of an English work by the same author.
Time for analysis!
Analysis/Theories:
First thing I want to look at is the fact that Spanish has gone down in terms of percentage, and why that may be. The change is not wildly significant, and the fandom is growing fairly quickly, so I don't think it's a huge difference, but I still wanted to talk about it briefly. My biggest theory is just that as other languages have gained more works, Spanish has not grown quite as quickly in that time. Portuguese went up a bit, meaning its percentage has likely cut into Spanish's, alongside a few others gaining works. Remember that percentages work like a pie chart-- when one percentage increases, one or more of the rest must decrease. I don't have many other theories, and again, I don't think this is that huge of a difference.
French has works now! Honestly, this is completely unsurprising to me. French creators have had far more time to settle in, get involved in lore, and French fans have had more time to get interested in the server generally. Hope to see many more to come!
I don't have any significant analysis when it comes to the Malay fic, other than that I think the nature of QSMP will continue to encourage new fics in new languages. QSMP is about cross-cultural communication and encouraging people to speak their own languages as well as learn about others'; I think it makes perfect sense for people to want to write fic in their native languages, even more so than a typical fandom. Excited to see this continue, particularly in the case of minority and endangered languages.
Translation! I brought this up in the last post, so I don't want to carry on about it too much, but there are still plenty of works that are translations, which I think is very cool. Translation is a huge element of the server and of the fandom and I think it's really lovely that people took on the very arduous effort of translating theirs and others' works into other languages. Massive kudos!
Otherwise, I think my analysis from last time stands-- tl;dr, QSMP is far more likely to have Spanish and Portuguese works than AO3 generally because of the nature of the server, the server members, and the way that Spanish MCYT fandom in particular has grown in the last several years.
Last time I talked about Eng, Esp, and Prt-br speakers being really central to lore, and this time I would just add that I think several French members, namely Baghera and Etoiles, have made themselves significant within lore and just all-around fan favorites, so I hope to continue to see more works in French but also just more works about them in general. Cellbit is still hot, that hasn't changed, and I think the dynamics of streamer attractiveness aren't really something key to this kind of analysis, although they're certainly interesting.
Disclaimers, Conclusions, Final Notes:
I am not a statistician! I just think fandom stats are interesting. If I did any math wrong, please let me know. I also want to note that I'm not doing any particularly quantitative analysis here aside from turning work numbers into percentages, and that is partially intentional, as I don't think there's enough works at this time to do anything really strenuous, just to make some observations.
Going to copy-paste this note from last time, as well, as I think it's an important element about the multilingualism of the QSMP that is less common in other fandoms:
Due to the nature of the server, there is also a huge number of works that contain elements of multiple languages, ranging from a few works to a decent chunk of the dialogue swapping between languages. This is not completely unheard of in fandoms, of course, as there are many fandoms which provide the opportunity for multilingualism, but this is fun to note because it's so present in the canon itself. I would argue there's a decent number of fics that are themselves bilingual/trilingual/multilingual, and I wish AO3 had a way of tagging them as such. I'm not sure if there are any freeforms along those lines, but I have seen some folks noting in their tags that there's some amount of Spanish/Portuguese in them as well as English, and the same goes for the Spanish fics I've looked at.
^ I hope that continues to be a trend in fic, and I think that it continues the spirit of multilingualism both on the server and in the fandom.
Once again, here is the link to the stats as of June 6, 2023, and I hope you all enjoyed looking at these numbers!

OKAY SO A RANT FOR YOU
I'll do it on my hcs of the marauders ethnicities and nationalities hehehe since we were talking about it earlier
starting off with the girls because LADIES FIRST/lh
Marlene— I see her as German or Korean (maybe both for that matter) I saw her as German first originally, and like I love it
I also saw her recently being hc as Korean and I thought that was fitting as well
and I think she was born and raised in England, but her parents always took her on trips back to Germany or to Korea to learn about the cultures and see their extended family as well
she would definitely be bilingual, but no one would realize until one day she just whips it out, and everyone is stunned
Dorcas— Haitian/cuban, she is a Caribbean girlie all the way
Dorcas can fluently speak créole and Spanish, French as well
She was born in Haiti and her parents had her live there until she was like 5 and then brought her to live in England with them
Lily— English/Irish, born in england
but I like to think that her father was born and raised in Ireland and had the thickest accent and so because of her growing up with her mother's English accent and her father's Irish accent, she has this combined accent from the both of them
Mary— I think she could be Nigerian, though I haven't thought too much about Mary (Shame on me ikik 😔)
She was born in England but she lived with her grandmother for a while bc maybe her parents died(?) and then when she got older she moved back to England for school
Emmeline Vance— I actually know nothing about her so I'm open to whatever hcs ppl have for her
I usually see her fancasts being Asian but I'm not sure where in Asia I think she'd be from
Pandora— Mexican/French or Brazilian/French
u told me about Mexican rosier twins earlier and I can't not get that out my mind
I love it sm
they were born and raised in France though, moving to England when they were 12-13 maybe
Sybil— I got no clue here, I'm thinking maybe polish? I'm not sure
she was born as raised in England tho, that's for sure
Bellatrix— Haitian/French
I HAVE A WHOLE THING FOR THIS
Cygnus had an affair(a one night stand) and the woman got pregnant and then came bellatrix, and because she technically had Cygnus' blood, she was partially "pure" so he had to take her in
but the rest of that family is white(you can't convince me that the older generations of the Black Family weren't racist— ironic bc of the name but I digress) and therefore Bellatrix always stood out yk
but she could fluently speak French, her French is honestly better than her English (bc she wanted to be accepted so badly she leaned more into learning french bc it was what her family valued)
she was born and raised in England
Narcissa— French, born and raised in England
Druella was french, Cygnus was French and there you get Narcissa (this sounds so plain after every I wrote for Bella but 😭)
Fluent in French and English
Andromeda— French, born and raised in England
Can speak French, but not as well as her sisters, but knows more than enough to get by
Alice— Italian, born and raised in Italy but moved to England for Hogwarts
idk why but she just seems Italian to me
Rita— kill me but she's so american, in terms of nationality
I think she'd be Greek and dutch ethnically though, but can't speak either of those languages (she can read and write Greek tho, just can't speak it well)
BUT SHE'S SUCH AN AMERICAN 😭😭😭 IM TELLING I (sincerely, an American)
she moved to England though, cause 1. her parents are loaded and 2. she begged hard enough
okay I think that's all the girls (I will sob if I missed one—)
now for the dudes
Remus— Welsh/English, born and raised in Wales
Idk where I got this from it's just always been there
but if I may
can I propose German Remus? cause I can see it yk
Sirius— French/Italian, born in italy and lived there for a bit, then moved to England
Idk which parent would be which bc I honestly don't care enough about Orion or Wallburga, but I have converted to Italian Black brothers and I couldn't give it up Im telling you
it's just too perfect
Sirius would lean more into learning Italian than French but would be fluent in both, as well as English
his accent is strong but he's good at covering it
Regulus— same as Sirius, French/Italian, but born and raised in France
Id like to think Orion and wallburga were separated for a bit bc they couldn't tolerate each other's bullshit LMAO so they both separated(without anyone knowing ofc) and took the boys to France and Italy for a bit until they had to show their faces together a couple years later
So regulus is ofc fluent in French, as well as Italian, but he doesn't have as strong of an Italian accent, as well as English ofc
he also stopped using Italian a lot more after Sirius left
James— HE'S EITHER INDIAN/BENGALI OR CUBAN/PUERTO RICAN
there's no in between for me he's either Desi or Hispanic LOL (I mean he can be both ofc he can but I always see him as one or the other)
He's fluent in Spanish or Bengali and knows some hindu (but his parents were from West Bengal and Bangladesh so they mainly speak Bengali) and English
But sorry y'all, despite this, his spice tolerance is not great, sue me(/lh)
he still eats it all anyway bc all that food is DELICIOUS OMG(I love food, can you tell)
he was born and raised in England tho
Peter— I think he's Scottish for some reason, born and raised
and he has an accent too hehehe
sorry Peter, you're quite simple when it comes to this imo 😔🎀
Barty— we've all decided he was Italian haven't we
but but what if I hit you with Italian/German barty
I saw it in a post the other day and I loved it LMAO
he was born and raised in Italy but moved to England in his teens
can speak Italian, and German fluently, his English is good but his accents are all over the place at times
Evan— exactly the same as Pandora, Mexican/French or Brazilian/French
Frank— tell me why I see him as Asian (probably bc of Frank from Percy Jackson but that's not my fault—)
but he'd probably be half Chinese and half English
born and raised in England
Lucius— Russian or French, or half and half
it just seems right to me
he was born in raised in Russia until he was ten, then he moved to France, and then finally, they ended up in England for him to go to Hogwarts
fluent in Russian and French, and his English is good enough to get by, his accent is THICK though
Snape(I just realized.... we don't call him by his first name do we 💀)— but ummmm hm
Italian/English
born and raised in England and does not speak Italian
Xenophilius— french, born and raised
can speak French fluently as well as English
Rodolphus(Lestrange)— I can't remember what exactly me and my friend hc them as but ik he was half Romanian
(I think the other half was Russian)
Rabastan(Lestrange)— same as his brother
and... I think that's everyone
everyone that we rlly talk about anyways LMAO
this was a long one hehe
OMG SO SO SO COOL THNAK YOUU FOR TELLING MEEE
I agree with a lot of these hehe
I get where you're coming from with Bellatrix, I've somehow always seen her as part italian for some reason lol, cus of the whole affair thing that I completelyyyy agree withhh
And yeah rita is Definitely American, any idea what state she could be from? I feel like she could also be german/American just for fun
I think xenophilius would be French but I also think he'd maybe be some other European country, maybe like Belgium or maybe Greece? hehe
I LLOVEE THE IDEA OF SIRIUS AND REG BEING ITALIAN AND FRENCH OMG
but sadly I kinda don't think it fits a bit ? IDKK
but yes it absolutely works I'm just veryy used to French black brothers loll
hehe ^_^

Three months of Thai
I've reached a weird point where listening to Thai, even native content like unsubbed actor interviews, definitely feels like I'm listening to normal speech with words, but where only some of those words are familiar and only some of them have real meaning to me. Definitely a contrast to Vietnamese, where I can pick out a few basic words, but it still just sounds alien overall, and Spanish where I understand the majority of what I hear. What I do know isn't just nouns and a few verbs, I've started catching functional things like 'but' and 'like this.'
I did have an actual lesson where I spoke enough to answer yes/no questions and say how may things I had and what color, so I feel like that proved to myself that speaking can naturally arise out of listening to a some degree. I do have another lesson tomorrow but I'm thinking of stopping. It's making this feel a little more like a REAL THING I'm doing and not just a weird little side project and I'm not sure how much mental capacity I have for taking on a REAL THING right now because REAL THINGS can make me stressed in a way thing things that aren't really a thing don't.
I'm sick of beginner content, but I'm not ready for anything more interesting, so I just have to plow through. I'll have some much less time/energy after this coming weekend so no more 2hrs a day, I'll be lucky to manage 1 and I'm sad about that despite how much of a slog it can feel like. There's also a part of me that wants to try a new language now now now, but I also love Thai and would miss it.

Puukko's Travel Log 3
Passage from Puukko's Travel Log
Spent longer than I'd care to admit in the Italian countryside. It's beautiful to be sure, but less so when all ye got is cookies an' a ship's biscuit with yer own face on it. Don't ask. That's a story all its own. Found myself somewhere with folk milling about, weren't the most helpful seein' as I don't actually speak Italian. Me Spanish is a mite rusty, but consid'rin' I only used it fer plundering Spanish ships I think I managed quite well for m'self. The carryover 'tween languages is surely of some note, but I'll leave that to brighter minds with less tired eyes.
I'll admit it weren't the journey I'd hoped fer so far. I still miss the sea, but it sure is fine t'be out on me pins again. A nice young hemulen couple's lettin' me stay in their guest room. Quaint an' cozy, and I'm quite happy to have a real meal. Think they thought me a beggar or street poet or some such? Don't much look like a pirate nor a blacksmith, an' I ain't exactly rollicking randy dandy-o after sleepin' out wild the last few nights. Either way, they ought to do just fine with a gold coin 'er two. If not to spend, well, its a fine trinket from days gone by.
I'm always forgetting gold don't spend the same these days. Folks laugh when ye say doubloon, or at least with my manner o' speakin', and words tend to fail once they're outta me coinpurse. Ah well, doubloons and reales and whatever other ol' coin Spanish or not still spends better than gold teeth. I do so often regret not cashing in on those while I had the chance. Now I'm just a crazy ol' lady with a bag o' other folks' teeth! A grim thought, that. Glad I saw fit to leave that one at home.
Day 7
Signed Puukko

About time I introduce myself
TL;DR Luna's nonsense about herself. Feel free to reblog!
If you're looking for my original posts or my fics:
The tags are #psyluna.txt (for fandom info posts, writing tips, and posts like this one it's the first but you get the idea) and #psyluna.fic (for fanfiction). #psyluna.ask is for ask games and answers. #psyluna.png is for image edits, art, and memes.
The tag for when I get fanart is #I GOT ART. Bless all the people who have ever made something for me, I would like to give you the entire planet, but I'm poor, and taking care of a planet is too much work. So all I can give you is more fanfiction.
If I translate something that's not my work, the tag is #translation I just did.
From lurker to occasional reblogger to regular shitposter to… I don't know. The sky is the limit. Nice to meet you! I created this account in 2019, together with my return to posting fanfiction. I wrote fanfiction on again, then off again, for years, since I first picked it up at the fresh age of ten.
I was never a people person, nor did life make me a public figure, thank goodness. I'm not made for the spotlight, so I didn't see a point in blogging here myself. Anyway. I wanna do it now. Buckle up.
My name: the IRL one is so lame that I won't tell you. Call me psy, luna, or psyluna, as you wish. It fits me better.
My age: I was born in 1995, just so that I don't have to update this yearly.
Pronouns: I go by she/her. Gender is a myth. So is being internet famous.
My home country: I hail from not-so-distant, not-so-unknown Brazil.
Languages I speak: English is my second language (Portuguese is my first), and as per local standards, I can speak and write in English quite well. Before you ask, I write fanfiction in Portuguese and translate later, for reasons I'll disclose if anyone asks. I had basic Spanish in school and can still read/listen to it okay, can't write/speak it anymore. Japanese is my hobby language of choice. I plan on becoming more proficient if everything goes right.
My writing: it was always my favorite way to express myself. It's how I organize my thoughts and communicate with the world. Consequently, I wrote lots and lots all my life, even if not fanfiction, just personal vents. I got better in speaking out loud as I became more confident, less self-loathing, and ran out of fucks to give.
Should you talk to me: I enjoy chatting more than I enjoy people. It's not that I don't like people… Okay, let's not lie here. People are troublesome, even myself. I'll willingly talk to people who talk to me, and even start conversations at times, but getting attached and forming bonds isn't a default expectation. That said, if you wanna talk to me, please do.
Miscellaneous: I was somewhat raised by the 2000s internet. Meaning, I was there for a lot of memes and chaos, too. I miss some things and not others.
You won't see me engage with drama and discourse a lot. I keep many personal opinions private or restricted to close friends, as one should separate personal life from public life. To be honest, no one cares much what I think (again, thank goodness). Won't ever bother putting up a DNI list.
I usually follow back. If your blog is blank (as in you don't reblog anything), I might follow back if I know who you are.
Among other artsy things I like doing: drawing (not too well), singing (okay to well), playing a few instruments (okayish), typesetting (pretty well, actually). If cooking counts, then cooking.
My fandoms: I've been obsessed with lots of things along the years. For every phase, I bookmarked lots of fanart and wrote a bit of fic. My interests come and go. They're mostly anime/animated series and video games. I'm also a “mild kpopper” and a dormant rock/metal enthusiast.
My favorite characters: too many to count. They mostly fit the “well-meaning but kind of a jerk” archetype. They don't have to be morally gray, but can be. I don't vibe with stupid characters a lot. My favorite works of fiction are a bit or very tragic. I love bishounen/bishoujo in character design. My ships are based on if I like the chemistry, not much on the characters' genders.
As for my writing strengths: I'm good at putting one word in front of another and finding mistakes. That's the gist of it. Many writers struggle with low productivity and procrastination, and that isn't my curse, fortunately. I can work with a preexisting idea and propose solutions, maybe even add a thing or two. I'm also very critical of things and quick at noticing patterns.
As for my writing weaknesses: I don't think my ideas are too innovative, and while that doesn't matter a lot in the bigger picture, it makes me a little sad. I recycle ideas and themes a lot and hope no one notices. Whenever I'm forced to create, instead of working with preexisting things, I go ughhhh. I used to joke about how I had one idea worth writing every six months. It's been different these days, and I took notes of all nice ideas I've been having, but it's pretty recent. I'm also bad with prompts I don't click with.
The rest like prose, characterization, style, etc. is up for debate, and to some degree, a matter of personal taste. I like to think I can adapt to the needs of whatever I'm writing.
Do you write original fiction? Yes! I'm just not very far into them. I won't disclose much about it, though. Not now, at least. Some are more slice-of-lifey, others are more fantasy-like.
You can find my compiled social media and writing profiles in this carrd. If you don't feel like clicking on the carrd, here are the fic sites:
Archive Of Our Own (most up-to-date, missing older works and personal vents)
Fanfiction dot net (not very up-to-date because I hate this website)
+Fiction, formerly Nyah! Fanfiction (in Portuguese only, has lots of old stuff and vents)
I have a Wattpad account with nothing posted.
I'm used to talking about myself, since nine times out of 10 I'll be brooding in the corner and people get curious. I don't know why exactly that is. Hope you could get to know me better!

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Acquired from @cuubism
If you see this and are a writer on AO3, consider yourself tagged!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
31
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
400,433
3. What fandoms do you write for?
That are posted to AO3? Dragon Age and Good Omens, so far. I do have WiPs in The Sandman (one of which is a Neverwhere crossover), and Labyrinth.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Canticle of Dreams (Dragon Age, M - By far the longest, so that makes sense)
I Meant To Do That! - The Inquisitor Coyote Story (Dragon Age, T [so far] - Will probably end up the most kudos if I ever finish it)
Initial Summoning (Good Omens, G - My oldest GO fic, first in a series)
Cheese! (Dragon Age, G - A silly fic from my self-insert series)
To Give A Hand To Each (Good Omens, E - Reader-insert smut!)
(Those all require logins to read, sorry.)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I try to reply to every single comment, but occasionally miss one. It seems only fair, if they took the time to leave one.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Well, The Canticle of Trials (Dragon Age, M), but that's because it doesn't really end at the end. It's an angsty detour in the middle of a larger story.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Objects of Affection (Good Omens, T).
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thus far, no. The worst I ever got was expressed as aghast confusion rather than hate, and I don't assume it was intended negatively.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Occasionally. Whatever comes to mind, as long as I can figure out how to do it justice.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I do, yeah. The most thorough is the Sandman/Neverwhere I've got in early stages WiP right now.
Depending what one considers a "crossover" vs. "reference", the craziest is probably Execution (Dragon Age, T) which is officially set in Dragon Age, but careens through multiple Legend of Zelda, Disneyland, Neverwhere, and Labyrinth settings.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. Most of it's self-insert, which probably makes it kind of hard to steal effectively. It's hard to imagine anyone bothering.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
If poetry counts, yes! В чужих объятьях is a translation of Falling Silent (Good Omens, G).
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, several times.
I Meant To Do That! - The Inquisitor Coyote Story (Dragon Age, T) is co-written with SeabhacMhor
The Canticle of Trials (Dragon Age, M) was written with help from Cowoline (I could have sworn she was credited as co-author but apparently not… I should ask if she wants to be!)
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I'm an Armada type. I want all the ships. By all means, give me the ridiculously complex giant crossover polycule, baby!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Anything current enough for me to count it as a WiP is something I choose to believe I can finish someday!
16. What are your writing strengths?
Probably silly comedy? I think I'm pretty good at dialogue?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm not actually very good at story structure. Luckily, in fanfic I can rest on the established story structure! Ha!
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I can't really distinguish character voice in other languages in writing, so I'm wary of it. I do know a bit of Spanish, so if it doesn't need to be skillful, like, if the characters themselves aren't fluent, I could try it myself, sure.
Otherwise, I'd want a co-writer who is fluent in the relevant language.
If it's a conlang, then I'll happily engage, and have in bits for Elvhen in Dragon Age fic. But I'm less worried I'll get that wrong, because nobody else speaks it either!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Uhhh… technically I think Disney's Beauty and the Beast? Didn't really think about it that way at the time, and the results weren't great. I wrote one Buffy the Vampire Slayer fix it fic in my late teens/early 20s, plus a little bit of a couple others that never got off the ground.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
It's kind of hard to top my 200k+ word "main fic", The Canticle of Dreams (Dragon Age, M). At least, that's what I'm most proud of.

Kinda at a crossroads in terms of my personal life right now. Actually, scratch that, I'm kind of having a crisis in general.
The company I work for treats us employees like shit, and half the work we do is redoing stuff we've already done because they can't make up their minds. Not to mention that they've fired almost all of the OG greenhouse crew, and those that weren't fired have left on their own terms because they've seen the flaws, too. Everyone they've hired to replace them speaks little to no English, and Babbel isn't actually adding anything relevant to my job to my Spanish vocabulary. Our truck driver is gone at the end of next week, then it's just me and my boss (and his usually-not-around boss) from the original crew. And I'll be the only one who solely speaks English. I don't mind the others being Spanish, but the language barrier is such a pain. We spend so much time using Google Translate that we have minutes knocked off of productivity explaining things properly to each other.
Cherry on top? Well, the truck driver did once overhear the CEO telling someone else that everyone is replaceable. Hahah, I don't want to work for you anymore. I love the work I'm doing when I'm not redoing things, but what the fuck?
Anyway. We have a new shipping facility in my area that's hiring, and their pay is pretty good, but I don't think that's a job (sorting packages) I'd be interested in. None of the other jobs here are appealing to me. It's like the only thing keeping me tied here is my family, friends, and the fact that I don't feel comfortable enough to strike out on my own yet- I mean, it seems fucking complicated separating my finances and stuff from my parents', I have no idea where to start. Insurance? Phone plan? Internet? No fucking clue how to detach from all that and get myself set up. And housing is expensive now.
What I'm about to add may make me seem suicidal, and I swear I'm not, but- What's the point? In living? In working hard for a retirement you'll never be able to afford? For companies that do nothing but abuse you and take up all of your time?
I don't even get paid for having Labor Day off, and I didn't know that until today. Bet I haven't been paid for any holidays. Will I get paid for Thanksgiving? For Christmas? I have no benefits at all.
Heck, my bosses aren't even sure if we're staying on through the winter yet, and the vague answers they've each given me have been contradictory of one another.
The part of me that signed up to take JROTC in that middle school classroom is rising back up. I wanted to join the military then, and it's looking pretty appealing now. I feel like I'm just dragging, hanging on because I know I'll never forgive myself if I miss new releases in my favorite fandoms- and there's quite a few that I'm excited for- but I don't feel there's much for me out there.
I want to make life interesting, make it feel worth sticking around for, but I have no idea how to do that.

Day 4 Off the beaten track and 22,579 steps to language school
After breakfast I headed to the gym to do my own (the exercise physio's) program which went pretty smoothly. It wasn't too crowded and I found what I needed. I still managed to miss a turn getting there!
After much fluffing around on the computer, I finally got out the door and headed to Alvor for lunch and my first Portugese lesson at Golfland (basically a putt putt). I posted a question about a month ago on a Facebook page enquiring about language classes and had one response, they put me in touch with Rebecca Cuddeford.
I thought I might walk based on the advice of the Canadian couple I met yesterday, although they indicated the coastal route was the one they took. Given my tardiness I decided to follow the maps.me instructions inland. I did notice the path seemed to go off road, but I went with it and saw a different side of the Algarve. It was quite warm today, around 20-21°, I felt the heat walking in the middle of the day. I was also feeling a tad adventurous, not knowing what might be around a corner, until I started listening to a podcast on the Women Who Travel, Condé Nast Traveler program. Alice Morrison walked across Morocco with three nomads and six camels over 7 months. I think she said she did 70,000kms!! Now that's adventure.
I booked lunch at Ria de Alvor at Wyndam Residences. I enjoyed my fresh herb crusted cod, sadly without wine. I just could not entertain the idea of a glass of Mateus and there was no other rosé by the glass. Later, one of the participants in the language school told me that she'd never eat there! Despite all my research prior to coming I had of course missed the main attractions in Alvor, the harbour and its restaurants, and some cute shops I saw on the way to the bus. This was also the case with Ferragudo yesterday, me in the industrial area, while apparently a different world awaits (realised after I did a review of my copious notes). Luckily I'm here for a while and can return.
I had thought about walking back along the coastal route into Praia da Rocha for gelato, but the language teacher advised against it on my own. The reason, the path is not always obvious and can crumble away! Falling off cliff tops before I actually retire is not something on my bucket list. I do have some women who responded to other Facebook posts I wrote (I sent messages to them today announcing my arrival) so I'll ask their advice and whether they'd like to join me. Otherwise Gary, who attended the class today, is a member of a walking group/s and knows everybody, according to the teacher! I had a lovely quick informative chat with Michelle and ?? about owning property in Portugal. They are still based in the UK, but holiday regularly in Portugal. They said they do pay tax in both countries, but there's some arrangement between Portugal and the UK.
It was a fast paced lesson. Rebecca moved to Portugal eight years ago and within four years started to teach. For €5 per hour payg there were about 15 of us. I was the only Australian and I think I heard all British and Irish accents, some sounded quite funny speaking Portugese. I think they were mostly retired, there was one guy who is an actor and he was switched on with it and sounded fabulous. It is an interesting language, there seems to be some German, French, Italian and maybe Spanish influences. Ricardo, the trainer at the gym last night, sounded like he was saying German words (maybe he was!). Anyway aside from Olá (Hi), obrigada (thank you), um galão (a frothy milky coffee), pastel de nata (Portugese tart), I can now practice Chamo-me Jody (my name is Jody), como estás (how are you?), muito benn (very good), quero uma cerveja (I'd like a beer!). We did practice what was taught last week and then moved on to months of the year and numbers.
I ended the outing with a triple scoop gelato (ricotta & café, pistacchio italiano and my preference, crosscantino & rum) from Gelateria Sorbetto, in Praia da Rocha, only a 12 minute walk from my apartment. It was excelente!
I'm pleased to announce the €2.99 (discounted from €5) bottle of rosé from Setúbal is drinkable. It went down well with my homemade (em casa) prawn fried rice, which was still edible with the notes of turps syrah splashed in as stock!

On'yomi, or it's all Greek to me
(I'll describe something really useful for memorizing the on'yomi readings of many kanji at the end of the article, so you might also want to skip ahead. It's the part with all the kanji in it, can't miss it, really.)
When you learn Japanese, you learn many facts that sometimes make you wish you didn't. You happily beaver away at learning to write kanji only to pick up on the fact, that Japanese has two predominant ways to read almost any kanji: on'yomi and kun'yomi.
You could on'yomi "the Chinese readings" and kun'yomi "the Japanese readings" and you would be both right and wrong. So very wrong.
Well, not entirely. The notion is actually useful. On'yomi are readings derived from the evolving Chinese language of different time periods but pronounced wrong. (Remember, Japanese doesn't emulate Chinese pitch and has a limited set of sounds.) And the kun'yomi preserve various readings from various parts of Japan that were the sounds of the original Japanese language predating the Chinese writing system. (Get the deets here.)
Wait. If you have native Japanese sounds, why do that? Who on Earth would do such a thing!?
Right. It's us! (I'm German.) German uses words derived from Latin and Greek a lot in spite of perfectly usable German words meaning the same or similar things. So I'm the one to talk, huh?
"die Intention" - the intention. Perfectly German word? "das Vorhaben," or better, "die Absicht."
"die Prätention" - basically to give yourself airs. Perfectly German word? "die Anmaßung."
"die Restoration" - the restoration. Perfectly German word? "die Wiederherstellung."
Latin was the language of the Roman empire, but this impacted more the cultures abutting the Mediterranean and their "Romanic" languages - Spanish, Italian (of course), and French, for example. The basic stock of the language took in a lot of Latin words, they are at the core.
Germans on the other hand, thanks to "Herman the German", stayed mostly independent from the Roman empire and played part in eventually bringing it down. These proto-Germans had their own language to start with, and probably some form of sour kraut. So why all the Latin and Greek?
Latin is the language of many academic professions, especially law (Roman law is the historic origin of most western law) and medicine (partially with the intention you don't understand what your doctor is saying about you!). Universities in the middle ages and beyond relied on Latin as the language of exchange. Newton wrote about gravity in Latin. (And lots of other things. A busy bee, Newton was.)
These pesky academics then went on the coin all kinds of complicated words for newfangled technology that the ancient Greeks and Romans surely had envisioned at some point. Now wait. That was Jules Verne.
Television - far-away seeing. Oh wait, no, that's telescope. My bad.
Automobile - it moves by itself.
Mobile phone - movable sound.
Arithmetic - something about numbers and counting.
Algorithm... Ha! Gotcha! Sounds Greek, right? It's derived from the far more accessible Arabic...
My examples are English but exactly the same words exist in German with minor spelling differences - "Television" oder "Fernsehen", "Automobil" or simply "Auto," "Mobiltelefon" or simply "Handy" (say what?), "Arithmetik" and "Algorithmus."
So, we're a mess, huh? Germans can't speak German without resorting to Latin, Greek, English ("Computer", "Handy"), a bit of French, Italian, Yiddish... and we mangled most of it. We can't help it. Most of it we translated to our own sounds. (That will show our neighbors and compatriots what we think about their invasive words. We'll use them but make you cringe.)
Don't get me started on English. A Celtic language mostly overwritten by Anglo-Saxon Germanic invaders with Frisian partially overwritten by originally Norse French (Norman) invaders, stuffed to the brim with Latin and not even the same root word for an animal and its meat. (Eventually, veganism might take care of that one.)
Deep breath. It's fine now.
Compound words
Now that was a lengthy excursion amounting to nothing, right?
Well, get used to it.
If you use a single kanji word, you typically use the kun'yomi sound. Because there was already a Japanese word representing that concept when writing arrived. Also, this is true of most verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, and some compound words (featuring multiple kanji). The tell-tale sign is typically the presence of some hiragana when writing it.
There are adjectives that don't have hiragana, like "dislike," one of the meanest little effers in the Japanese language. Its sounding ("kirei") ends in -i, but it isn't an i-adjective. It is an adjective, but it doesn't have any hiragana attached, either. It's a na-adjective that ends in -i. There are good reasons to dislike "dislike."
But in general the presence of hiragana puts you firmly in the territory of the kun'yomi readings. So a lot of common Japanese is unsurprisingly native sounds, just as English has native words for house, car/cart/carriage, like/likable, so does Japanese ("ie", "kuruma", "suki").
The category where you however will be inundated with on'yomi readings is the one of the vast majority of compound words - many of these complex concepts were imported from China. And so was the way to sound them out. Somewhat. Kind of.
In other words, Chinese fills the same role for Japanese that Latin fills (and, to some extent Greek, also) for European languages.
A useful shorthand
So, if you have to learn two or more readings for most kanji, how do you keep track? And do kanji make any sense?
Reading "Remembering the Kanji" originally raised my hopes that kanji were logical only to shatter those very same hopes over time. But it simply approached its subject matter from a limited view. At least the first book. (But that's how you're supposed to memorize the kanji, and I do call bullshit on that.)
Only the most simply kanji are pictograms. They depict the sun and moon for day and month, or the mouth, they clearly express 1, 2, and 3, etc. So I originally thought it might be useful to get a book about their origin to remember them.
Frankly, kanji (or more correctly, hanzi) changed so much since their time as petroglyphs they've become unrecognizable. Don't bother, really.
But that doesn't mean there is no sense in kanji at all, especially when it comes to the Chinese readings.
More complex kanji were built from simpler kanji - or from alternative forms of writing these kanji. People nowadays mostly learn them through memorization, but the radicals (as the parts of kanji are called) contain clues to their meaning and to their on'yomi reading.
You could go and use this as your method for memorizing the kanji, in fact. The book "The Kanji Code" by Natalie Hamilton lays out one such method. But you can have the benefit a bit easier, I think.
So, if you have a complex kanji, one part might give you the category of its meaning, and another part the sound. You can call them "signal primitives" if you want.
Here's an example:
謝 means "apologize" and its on'yomi reading is "sha."
言 is a hint to its meaning category, it means "say."
射 is a hint to its on'yomi reading, it reads... "sha!"
Here's another example:
養 means "foster" or "bring up" and its on'yomi reading is "you."
食 is a hint to its meaning category, it means "eat" or "food."
羊 is a hint to its on'yomi reading, it also reads "you."
So the original combinations might seem nonsensical at first:
"Apology" (謝) isn't a combination of "say" (言) and "shoot" (射).
"Foster" (養) isn't a combination of "food" (食) and "sheep" (羊).
But if take both these kanji as a way to tie together a broad meaning category with a sound, we do get a good result.
In fact, look at this example:
寺 is the kanji for "Buddhist temple" and its reading is "ji."
痔 means "hemorrhoids", meaning radical is "sickness" (疒) and pronounced ... "ji." (Hey, they were probably the first culture to spend long days sitting and writing.)
時 means "time" or "hour", meaning "sun/day" (日), and pronounced (you guessed it) ... "ji." (Time is indeed tied to the sun.)
持 means "hold", meaning "hand" (扌), and, yes, "ji."
峙 means "(to) tower" (like "towering over someone"), meaning "mountain" (山), and again, "ji."
Congratulations, you just learned four additional kanji in one go by looking at their components (which you do have to know) and spotting which part is the "meaning category" and which part a clue to its on'yomi sound. (Also, none of these words do in the least relate to the concept of a Buddhist temple.)
If you're interested in learning more about this method, have a look at the book. You might find it up your alley.
But even if you don't use the book, you can always look at each kanji you learn and check if the reading is "hidden" somewhere as part of the kanji already. This reinforces your memory of the original kanji's reading and helps you make sense of complex kanji.

Hi Cossette! I'm so sorry I've been busy with being too anxious. 😝
That is the best idea ever! My friend always makes a Christmas photoshoot with her cats and makes some postcards for everyone! I think it's too cute!!!!
Of course, I'd love to show them to youuuuu! Haha it's worth it, I understand.
I was also thinking about going back to Duolingo along with some online classes I found for italian and French! That's very relatable because I did the same. But, we'll get it going next year.
I have some ideas, but nothing defined yet. I was thinking about rep for my outfit, but we'll see! Oooh I love the Christmas tree farm outfit idea! That's cool! I think I have to say rep! Or maybe speak now? But, red was also so niceee! What about yours?
They are so delicious!!! My grandma made the best ones ever! I miss them so much. 💖 It kinda depends on the place, but usually it's very simple with just cinnamon and sugar. Those sound delicious!!! Omg
That's wonderful to hear! It's so good to spend time with our people. There's something so truly special about it. I hope your week was awesome! Mine was okay, but I did get to spend time with my favourite people so that was so incredibly awesome. 🥰😘
hi friend!!! 🤍 i hope you're doing okay!! 🤍 sending you a big hug!
one of my friends actually got me a "toto's version" sweatshirt for my birthday! i've been wearing it today and it's so cozy hehe. i sent out some of toto's new years cards last week, and one of our family friends just texted me saying they just got it in the mail!!
we will definitely get it going next year! i tried duolingoing french earlier this year too, but then ended up focusing more on spanish + chinese, since those were languages i already have a foundation in!
i'm very sentimental, so i'd have to say one of her earlier eras, like debut / fearless / speak now or even red!!! rep would be such a cool outfit — i think my best friend from high school is thinking of doing rep!!! i keep alternating between ideas so i think i'll wait till a little closer to decide haha! i do have like, eleven months!
that sounds so good :( i miss my grandma's cooking a lot too; sending you hugs. and yay! i'm glad you had a good week 🤍 so sorry this was so late; i've been feeling sickly!!

In the site currently using, I couldn't find it one shot or short story Kishimoto wrote originally with the idea of Naruto. I've read it on another side and I have share my opinion about it on another post. Here's the link.
For now my only comments are:
A. The version currently reading is very clean!! I'm really happy to have found the original translation in English because I have never actually read it in English. Growing up I used to wash the anime and read the manga both in Spanish, because that's my mother language. Back then, I never truly care with faithful translations. I think I was too young to understand the importance of that. The story has been there for me my whole life. It's going to be a total different journey now that I'm older and I have (almost) a literature degree.
B. First thing I noticed when I was reading the table of contents of this first volume, it's that none of the chapters introduced Sakura as a character. What I mean with this is that all other members of Team 7 have a chapter that is dedicated to them specifically.
Even Konohamaru has a chapter dedicated to him.
*EDITED:
I've read some of Kishimoto's interviews where he speaks about how was the process of creating Sakura, what were the problems he found when facing that challenge, how he didn't knew how to best write a romantic plot, how to depict a girl or a woman like her. Of course I'm paraphrasing all of this, but he created her realistic in some sense. She's less of a hero or avenger or a mythological figure. I think that is one of the reasons I like to focus on her because she doesn't fit the story quite like you think she should. She's an absolute weak point on the narrative, but because her arc or story felt different.
At first, I thought this was really interesting when you remembered how much the fandom likes to discuss if most female characters in the manga were properly written or if the execution of their arcs was properly treated. I didn't think that any female character was considered at the beginning of the manga and that Sakura was there only to drive forward Naruto and Sasuke's rivalry, not a character with her on agency.
Yet, the third chapter was mostly about her and not Sasuke. She did have her own agency and goals, she even had a one chapter development where Sasuke forced her to notice how cruel and mean she was being to Naruto, unnecessarily. She was presented as a more realistic 12 years old girl: hormonal in terms of thinking about boys and worrying about being attractive and fitting in with the expectations of her age, spoiled and ignorant in terms of talking badly about Naruto's situation of not having parents as a way to communicate her own experience of not liking the way her own parents treated her, but quick to correct her ways and capable of being empathetic, insecure and with self-esteem issues and violent, loud and outspoken and lively, but capable of being sweet.
C. I must admit I have missed Kishimoto's style. What is funny to me is that the story is so violent, yet the style is very cozy. This version has a really pretty drawing of Naruto and Iruka at Ichiraku's Ramen. I'm so sorrybut, this story is so— it feels so like home to me. Maybe it's because I grew with it, maybe it's because it remind me of all the cds I owned that were like total piracy. I used to watch them before my taekwondo practices and they'd hype me up so much so so much. It feels right to be back at this after two decades.
So I'm heading up to the first chapter let's see what happens. I'm excited to do this, to the point and considering not sleeping that much tonight so I can read the first five chapters. Which will be impossible because I have to use the voice to text function of my board and I have to catch a fly tomorrow. Anyway I'll do what I can.

Hi! I always find your answers to writing questions enlightening, so I hope you can help me as well. I'm working on my first FFXIV fic, but English isn't my first language and I find staying true to canon characters speech pattern difficult (it's not really the English I'm used to) and I'm completely frightened by when I'll have to write Urianger. Do you have any resources or advice for that? Sorry for the weird question and thank you in advance ❤️
The language in FFXIV, in EN and as far as I know JP, is using a slightly archaic mode of speech that is even difficult for native speakers sometimes. So it's easy to feel confused and intimidated by it! Words like gaol, chirugeon, corse, swiving, and so on are are all real words that have fallen out of common use. The etymology of "gun" in the lore mirrors that of the real world (related to a queen's name). Even the Thieves Cant used by Limsa's Rogues Guild is based in reality (with some substitutions made), and can be looked up. The writers and translators are, funnily enough, language nerds. The names of various things/groups/etc usually actually mean something and aren't just made up entirely.
In universe, the reason EN Urianger talks in a version of Modern English (other translations of Urianger apparently don't go quite so archaic) is due of his childhood tendencies to self-isolate and read older books, adopting those speech patterns cuz he's a quirky nerd. Loiusoix gave that explanation in 1.x, and it's reiterated in Urianger's lorebook entry.
(Modern English starts in the late 14th century and early versions are recognizable if difficult to parse, versus Middle or Old English which are incomprehensible without study.)
Reading (or watching/listening) to Shakespearian English is a good way to get more used to Urianger's speech. Also they really are fun plays and poems; they were written for everyone to enjoy as popular entertainment, and are full of jokes and goofiness, even many of the tragedies. People think they're stuffy highbrow (they're not), and the cultural/social contexts are missing in a lot of cases anymore (the "William Shakespeare" tag on my main blog has more of that).
Writers off the top of my head to subscribe to who ship with the fortune-teller so write him often are @gunbun and @beetlebrownleaf; they've got his speech patterns and mannerisms pretty well down.
Here are some posts in my "language" tag (which I also often tag with Urianger and Midgardsormr, as he and some of the First Brood also speak a bit archaic):
Archaic Words - a short list of archaic words and their meanings.
Urianger Language Infographic - one fun way to try to learn the thy/thou/thee.
How To Thou/Thee/Thy/Thine/Ye Chart - what is says on the tin. Another handy method that may work for folks.
More Infographs - more silly pics explaining those pesky pronouns.
Discussion Thread on Modern English - random info thread from Tumblr users.
Urianger Discuss Thread - beetlebrownleaf and gunbun discussing Urianger-speak and some off-Tumblr resources they use when writing our favorite nerd.
One thing to remember about Modern/Shakespearian/Elizabethan English is "thee/thou/thy/thine" were actually informal, while "you" was formal. Like how some languages now have informal "you" versus formal "you." "Tu" versus "vous" in French, "tú" versus "usted" in Spanish, etc. And then we get into the plurals, and so on.
Which means Ye (subject)/You (object)/Your get used as both Plural and Formal.
Thou is Singular You as the Subject. Thee is Singular You as the Object. Thy is used for words starting with Consonants. Thine is used for words starting with Vowels ("H" counts).
If using "Thine", then that's when you'd use "Mine"; one of the links gives the example of "thine eyes" versus "mine eyes."
Doth = Does In fact, -eth and -th verb endings? It's just -es and -s endings.
Second person changes this up and we end up with "thou dost", "thou willt", "thou shallt".
"Ye" is actually not used for "The." That comes from an old letter no longer used in English, þ ("thorn"), that used to be the "th" sound, and as the letter fell out of use--especially in early printing--the letter "y" was substituted as a close visual equivalent but still pronounced "th". Which is why we have all those RenFaire signs.
There's more, so please check the links (especially gunbun's offsite resources) as of course there are irregular conjugations and exceptions and substitutions and special circumstances...but honestly for fanfic, just having "you" and basic verb conjugation sorted goes a long way to getting the correct "feel" of Urianger's EN speech.
In the end though: don't actually be intimidated by the language in FFXIV when it comes to writing fanfiction. Getting the NPCs to act and think in character regardless of language use is more important if aiming for authenticity. You can do your best with making the language sound close to the game's writing (avoid modern slang you don't see in game, for instance), but it's fanfic. Don't sweat it, ignore the grousing of your word doc's grammar check as needed, and it'll come easier in time with practice.

Eren with a s/o whos bilingual?
Hi sweetie,
Omg this idea is soooooo bomb💕🌸✨🥺🥺🥺 and cute. Ugh! Prepare for extreme fluff and I’m sorry I made you wait sooo long but at least the post is long. Btw I also think he’s gf is probably European, like idk I just see it but like I’ll make it generic cause obviously we don’t know what she knows other than English. I’m trilingual soooo
-Scarlet
Prompt
Requests are open
—————————
Eren with a bilingual gf
Well congrats cause he’s also bilingual.
I headcanon that anyways.
You probably kept it secret for a while even tho you figured out he spoke German you didn’t tell him about how you spoke another language.
You found it to be a pointless discussion.
I don’t think he knew your ethnicity either at least not until he told you that his dad was German and that his mom was (probably) Spanish/Latina.
“So where are your parents from?”
“Ohh—well I’m my mom is (ethnicity) and my dad is (ethnicity). And I’m American cause I mean I live here.”
“That’s an interesting mix, well they turned out to have a beautiful daughter.” He’d grin leaning in to kiss you.
“Mmm, thank you.” You’d smile enthusiastically before he’d smirk.
“And she’s all for me.” He’d kiss you once again.
He just in general finds that hot about you cause you know girls who are mixed race are known to be gems. But I mean everyone is mixed but you get what I mean😅
So you are a literal diamond to him.
You two got in the conversation of languages once and so of course you said what you spoke but you just left it that.
Though he was curious when or if you’d use it around him.
He wanted to know what it was like.
Though Eren probably wouldn’t have to ask since you end up slipping up and saying things in the other language you speak.
It’s either cause your mad or you forget Eren doesn’t speak the same language.
He really finds it funny that you do it and he thinks your voice is beautiful.
Like he could listen to it all day.
He’d want to know how to say things and in exchange he’d tell you how to say it in German.
He sometimes miss pronounces things on purpose to have you laugh or be annoyed but not actually mad.
It’s just to tease. And you know he means well.
He sometimes listens in on your conversation on the phone with a sibling or relative of yours just to hear what you sound like.
Eren admires your ability to do this even tho he can do it himself😂😂
Even so, he believes you’re special.
So he just loves hearing you speak another language.
Now apart from fluff here he can be a jerk about it.
He asks you how to say the cuss words in your language and you're not having it.
"C'mon, It's just a word."
"No, Eren."
He even wants to know how to say dirty things to you while in the bedroom.
"How do you say, 'you look hot,' ?"
"Eren I already told you I'm not teaching you things for the bedroom."
"Alright fine, I guess I'll just say sexy things to you in German then." He'd grin, seeing you a little surprised.
"You're such a perv!" You'd say playfully hitting him.
And in general even if he's not a jerk Eren witnesses this side of you sometimes and it's always cute.
For example::
You two were in his room, making out of course, classic Eren. And let’s just say when he pinned you down on the bed and continued to kiss you, don’t worry you guys are not leading to sex. It’s just a steamy make out session since you two are probably not there just yet.
Anyways you ended up saying “I love you” in your native language.
He freakin paused at this and he just couldn’t comprehend that you said something in your sensual voice that was not English so he was hella confused.
Like don’t get me wrong he was turned on by you expressing yourself although he wish it were in English so he could understand. But Eren being Eren made you embarrassed about how you got carried away.
“Uhhh y/n?” He was laughing.
Your cheeks grew pink as your eyes widen realizing what you said and you cover your face with your hands in disappointment. “Shit.” You groan being hella annoyed at yourself.
“Please ignore that!” You wave your hands frantically as you sat up on the bed.
“What? No, it was cute.” He said inching closer to you chuckling. His aqua green eyes shined in anticipation.
there was a moment of silence between you both.
“Say it again.” He said.
“What?” Your eyes widened.
“Please, in your language?” He begged, kissing your face repeatedly.
“No, Eren. . . I—I wasn’t supposed to say that. . . I didn’t want to.” You look away feeling all shy now.
“You didn’t want to? Well it didn’t sound like that to me with your sexy voice.” He winks.
“I swear! Besides I said something really silly.” You smiled.
His eyes sparkled, “Oh, well what does it mean?” His brow raised. He’d figure he’d ask knowing you said it wasn’t something intimate or so he thought.
“It means—I said that you have soft hair.” You lied.
“Y/n~” He teased knowing he caught you lying.
“What?” You asked a little nervous.
“C’mon tell me what it really means. What did you say?” He insists sitting beside you.
“It’s personal.” You blush shaking your head no.
“Fine, I’ll guess then.” He grinned.
“You said, ‘You’re hot,’ oh wait no, ‘don’t stop’ that’s what you said!” He rambled on excited hoping to get it right.
“No! I didn’t say either.” You smiled.
“ how about, ‘you’re a really good kisser, Eren’ ?” He laughed.
“I didn’t say you’re name. And no.” You replied.
“You asked me to continue?” He was confused.
“No, Eren.” You giggled.
“I like you?” He seemed more confused.
“Mm no.” You smile seeing he’s close.
“Oh, ‘I really like you!’ Is that it?!” He shouted excitedly.
You giggled, “No! Eren I said I love you!” You realized what you said and your eyes widened as you made him laugh at you obnoxiously. “Wait shit! Ugh I didn’t want to say that!” You cover your mouth.
“Awww baby~” he was touched honestly, he thinks your adorable.
Italic means it’s in German btw, I don’t trust google translate so that is y I did this.
“Well in that case I love you, that means I love you in German by the way.” He’d laugh before kissing you and bring you into his lap to hug you.
Overall he is never bored and loves being around you.

Huh... Alright, I'm doing... I think I'm doing it...
This is my very first fanfic ever... I'm still learning... This is a part 1 thing... I'm currently in the middle of a university exam period, so I couldn't finish the whole story yet, but I will as soon as I can, but I don't want to wait anymore... My English is okay-ish... It's not my native language, so there maybe some grammatical mistakes, I hope it's still readable... I tried my best... Just bear with me, I'll try to learn and improve... I'm very nervous...
Facts about the story: there is no age mentioning, Reader is around 25-26, I made Daniel younger in my head, 34-36 (single, no wife, no kids, let's respect the real Brühl family), Reader is female, I am Hungarian as well (possible Hungarian language in the future), I'm studying Russian (possible Russian language in the future), and I just started learning German, I used translater (sorry if I messed it up but, I really tried, please tell me if it's horrible), and one more thing... I have never met Daniel, nor I went to Berlin (yet, I really want to, and planning)... All of this are imagination, dreaming, and a little searching...
Warnings: none?... i think?... Apart from the horrible language uses and horrible jokes... Maybe swearing.
(Bad) Summary: a Hungarian girl goes to Berlin with a Russian friend of hers, as tourists. They always wanted to visit the city (not because Reader has a crush on the one and only Daniel Brühl, and wants to go to his tapas bar...of course). When the Reader goes back alone to the bar, Daniel is there too... The big meeting, adventures, fun, love, shitty romcom vibes ahead... (i hope the story is better than the summary...)
And now, after this awkward rambling, I present to you:
-----------------------------------
With Love from Berlin
Part 1
You couldn’t believe it. Finally, after months of preparation, you and your best friend were finally here, in the heart of Germany, Berlin. It was very different from what you were used to. Coming from a small city from Hungary, this was way bigger than your imagination. All kinds of people from different cultures merged into one. Museums, cafes, bars, restaurants, you didn’t even know where to begin. You took a deep breath in your hotel room. Your friend insisted on getting different rooms, in case she or you find someone to have a good time, if you know what I mean. Well, rather your friend, than you. You wanted to come here after many years, and you were finally here, so you want to experience as much of this city as you possibly could, you’re not gonna waste your time on a random (or more, glancing at your friend) man.
You arrived at the hotel around 1.00pm, so you decided to go get some lunch somewhere close. You were a little bit tired of the long hours on the train. Just around a corner from where you were staying there was a tapas bar. Bar Raval. Your friend wasn’t really into movies that much, or actors in particular, but you knew that place, although you have never been there. You didn’t think about yourself as a “fangirl”, but you really admired the work of Daniel Brühl. You knew there was little to no chance that you could get even a tiny glance of him, but in over all: you would be happy just to say that you were in his bar. Your friend liked Spanish cuisine, so it didn’t take much to convince her to eat there.
A Hungarian and a Russian woman walked into a Spanish restaurant in Germany, Berlin. Sounded comical. The place looked very friendly and funky. There were some people, not really a crowd. You decided to sit in the corner, with your back to the wall, so you can observe your surroundings. Your friend sits down opposite you. A waiter comes up to you:
- Willkommen! Was möchten Sie gerne? - he asked, looking between the two of you.
- Oh, sorry, we don’t really speak German. - you said with quite a thick Hungarian accent, because you got nervous due the potential language barrier.
- I see, It’s okay. We usually have all kinds of tourist here, so you’re good. What can I get for you two? - he asked with a welcoming smile.
You weren’t sure what you wanted to eat, you weren’t familiar with Spanish food at all, so you just trusted your friend to order something. She ordered something with pasta, and another thing with pasta. You had no idea what she just said. And some juice. She smiled at the waiter who scribbled down your order, and of he went. You looked around while you were waiting.
- It’s nice isn’t it?
- Yeah, it is. Quite bohemian. I would have guessed you would want to go to a traditional German restaurant. Why are we here? - smiled your friend knowingly.
- Well… You know…
- Is this the place of your man?
- What?! Shut up… - blushing - I just like his movies, that’s all… Anyway, I just liked the pictures of this place…
- ...and him…
- ...AND I wanted to check it out myself, ok?
- Ok-Ok...
You smiled at each other. You were best friends for years now, you could communicate without much of words. The waiter arrived with your plates. The food was good. In fact, more than good. In general, you prefer other cuisines, but you really liked this Spanish place. In Berlin. Odd, in the best way. After the lunch you went back to the hotel. Your friend wanted to go to a small club in the evening, so you decided to just chill throughout the afternoon.
The traveling took the better of you, as you didn’t just not feel fresh after your nap, but you actually felt like shit. Your friend on the other hand really wanted to get going. So you assured her and yourself that it’s fine if you didn’t go to a club. She was a strong woman, and the club which she picked was just a couple of blocks away, so she decided, after she made sure that it is truly okay, to leave you behind in your room. You have never been a party-animal anyway, and you really just wanted to plan for tomorrow. There were so many things you wanted to watch in the city. After a few hours of planning and searching, you eventually fall asleep on the couch.
In the morning, luckily, you felt much better, more of yourself than in the previous afternoon. You took a shower, get dressed (purple converse, dark skinny jeans, blue tank-top and a blue/black checked shirt...nothing can go wrong dressing like this, you thought), grabbed your camo, ex-military little gym bag, locked your room’s door, and went to knock on your friend’s door. It took a few minutes, some groans, and other small noises, when she finally flung the door open. The sight was hideous.
- The hell happened to you? - you really tried not to laugh.
- Laugh, as you like… I had a good time. Drank more vodka that I could handle though…
- Are you alone or…?
- I am… Calm down, I didn’t get lied… Although I tried… But I didn’t!!! - she said quickly after she saw the frown on your face. - But I feel very shitty… My hangover is killing me, I didn’t give out anything yet… But I might throw up at any minute now…
- How can I help you? Stay with you? Bring you something from that little shop we saw yesterday?
- Some water would be nice… But I don’t want you to see me like this… And I will be fine, i’m just gonna rest today… You can go on on your sightseeing trip.
- Are you sure? I’m gladly staying with you…
- No, no! You wanted to come so badly, I don’t want to take a day away from you. I will be alright.
- You promise?
- I do. Please, just go. - she smiled at you.
- Alright. I’ll go grab you some water, and… I don’t know, go for a walk or something. Get breakfast.
- For the mentioning of food, your friend’s face went green and particularly jumped into her bathroom.
- I’m coming back in a minute or two! - you shouted after her, than closed her hotel room’s door.
You went down to get some water, some bread and some crackers which would be easy on her stomach, yet she still would be able to eat something throughout the day. You knocked on her door, which opened just slightly, an arm came out to take the bag from your hand, a small, weak “Спасибо” and just like that the door was closed again. You giggled to her door before you headed down to the street.
You honestly didn’t really want to explore many things without her, so you tried to keep your excitement low. You decided to go back to that bar where you ate your lunch yesterday. You liked it a lot, and it wasn’t a new place to discover, which meant that your friend wasn’t missing out on anything. You went to the bar. It was still early morning, not many people were there. A few old people, some of them are couples. The younger generation (yours) was probably still sleeping. Besides, the place was more like a lunch/dinner kind of place anyway. The waiter looked up and recognised you.
- Good morning! Alone this time?
- Good morning to you too! Yes, my friend had a wild party last night, and she is standing at the gates of Hell right now.
- That sounds bad. - he laughed.
- It is, she looked scary… - that made him chuckle.
- So what can i do for you today?
- I would like just a cappuccino, please.
- Alright, just sit down, I’m on it.
- Thank you!
You sat down at the exact place where you did yesterday, next to the window, with your back to the wall. You put down your bag, and looked around. With less people, the place looked cozier. You really did like it a lot. Eventually, your cappucino arrived. You thanked it, and tasted it. It was delicious. You were one of those people who liked to read next to a fresh coffee, and you always had a book around you. You took it out from your handy-dandy bag and started reading it, holding it a little up in your hands, leaned back on your chair. You were reading one of your favourite books (Pushkin - Anyegin), while sipping a good morning cappuccino, in a nice place. You just relaxed to the small sounds of the bar and sounds of the city, which infiltrated through the door and windows.
- Eine interessante Wahl von Buch am Morgen. Interessanter als eine Zeitung, das ist sicher...
No. Just...no. You were hallucinating. You felt like everything was frozen around you. From out of 2.8 millions of people (roughly), you would recognize this voice. His voice. You physically could not look up.
- Omm.. I’m sorry, I didn’t understand what you just said… - you said with the weakest voice and in the thickest accent ever, in your whole damn life. You hoped that if you make this man say another thing you fall back to reality.
- Oh, my bad - he giggled - I just said that it is an interesting choice of read in the morning, it sure is more interesting than a newspaper.
Shit, this was the reality.
You dared to look up, and your eyes met the most chocolaty eyes ever on this whole planet, but at least in the whole of Berlin. The owner of those eyes was leaning on the chair opposite you.
- Hello. I’m the owner of this Bar, I’m Daniel. - he offered his hand to you.
- Hi, I kno...i mean I’m (Y/N), I’m the costumer…? - you finished with a questioning voice and all you wanted was for the ground to open, swallow you, and with that wipe you out of this universe. You shook his hand, without looking at him directly. His hands were warm and secure. After he released you, you closed your eyes, already feeling the burning sensation in your face. You heard a deep chuckle.
- Yeah, I guessed that. You’re not from Germany and you aren't British either, aren’t you?
You opened your (Y/E/C) eyes only to meet his curious ones.
- No, I’m not. I’m just a tourist here, I’m from Hungary.
- Oh, I’ve been there. It’s a lovely country. Would you mind if I sit down? - gesturing to the empty chair opposite from you.
- Yes… I mean no… - you took a deep breath - If you would like to you can sit with me. - This is just going great...
You earned another deep chuckle from the man in front of you, while he sat down.
- So… What are you doing here alone, in Berlin?
- I’m not alone.
- Oh… Anniversary? - for a moment you thought you saw something in his eyes. Sadness?
- Not that either. I don’t have anyone to celebrate such things. I came here with my friend, but she got wasted last night, and probably at the moment she is agonizing in her bathroom above the toilet.
- Hm… that’s not nice. - curiosity was coming back to his face.
The two of you stayed in silence. It wasn’t really uncomfortable, you were just terribly shy, and couldn’t stop blushing. You even tried to hide some of your face by leaning on one of your palms, and sipping your coffee.
This is aweful. Daniel f*ing Brühl is sitting opposite me, and I can’t even look at him. He must be thinking I’m one of those fangirls who just can’t keep it together before their idols. Which is true, but he shouldn’t have to know that…
But he wasn’t thinking that. Quite the opposite actually. You were so out of place in his bar, he had to approach you. There was something in you which made him intrigued. While you were trying to hide, which he found a little bit cute and entertaining, he tried to study you as well. There was something in you. He felt like he wanted to know your story.
- So what’s the plan for today?

Headcanons of Krel living on earth because he’s my favorite and I love him and I haven’t seen anyone do this yet so I feel like I have to
^^^^^because of this very moment I love the idea of Mary and Darci befriending Krel.
Since Aja,Vex and Eli went back to Akaridion-5, Mother was destroyed, and Claire was busy with Trollhunting stuff, earth gets pretty lonely. So Mary and Darci adopt him into their friend group.
At first Krel was a little apprehensive to joining their friend group, but he quickly warmed up to it because, he, being Krel, loves the attention.
like I can totally see Mary and Darci taking Krel to like a mall or something and doing those like teen romcom movie shopping montages where he goes into a changing room and the girls judge the outfit until they find the perfect one.
I personally believe Krel would adopt a soft boy look, with like oversized button ups and t shirts tucked into jeans, but thats just me.
anyway, because he’s friends with Mary and Darci, Krel has a new found social popularity in Arcadia.
because of this, Krel would prolly get nominated for Spring Fling king and shit
I would say Krel wouldn’t really care about being nominated, but seeing how he cared so much about the science fair and the Battle of the Bands, he would definitely care
Steve is conflicted because he wants to be Spring Fling King, but he can’t mess with Krel like he did with Jim and Eli cause Krel is his girlfriend’s brother
Krel notices this and takes advantage of it to mess with Steve and actually tries to win.
like Krel would just dominate the contests, and his theme presentation would be the flashiest and most appealing and people would just generally like him, and that would really worry Steve
like Krel, with four arms would be really good at the Touch-a-Truck-athon or whatever its called.
Krel would prolly let Steve win anyway because watching Steve squirm and freak out over prolly losing the crown and not being able to do anything about it cause he's Aja's brother is much better than any highschool dance crown
also the school 100% asks Krel to DJ future dances and events to save money, and Krel absolutely loves it
He would also definitely do the school play. Seeing how much he enjoyed being in Toby and Eli's short film, and again, he loves the attention, he would totally be down
Also it would just be another chance to mess with Steve to be the lead.
Because of this, Ms. Janeth would do another Shakespearean play, but do one of those modern renditions. Like it's the same play just in a modern setting, to take advantage of Krel's Akaridion form like they did with Jim's armor.
If not in the play he would do stage crew/tech.
Like he would create elaborate settings for them using A5 tech and Ms. Janeth would adore it
moving on, because home life is pretty lonely with just the Lucy and Ricky for company, Krel loves to host his friends for parties and sleepovers and whatever
and since Krel lives in the coolest house on the block, they love coming over
He hosts girl’s night every other week with Mary, Darci, and Clarie (becauuse she deserves a fucking break)
since we’ve all agreed that Krel is 100% a gaylien, I love the idea that he casually comes out during a girls night
like Mary would be like “So Krel, are there any girls you like?” and Krel’s just like, “*snort* Girls? Who ever said I like girls?” and the others are like “….....?“ and Krel just rolls his eyes and says "I like boys, ladies” and they’re like “ooooohhhh, okay. Cool.”
So now they spend girls night talking about boys. Claire and Darci about their mans and Mary and Krel about cute boys.
One day the girls give Krel a little rainbow pin and Krel’s just like “what’s this?” And the girls tell him that it’s an earth symbol for the gays and he’s like “theres a symbol for that here? I didnt think it was that big of a deal. On A5 it’s pretty normal” and the girls explain why theres a symbol and he’s like “oh shoot wow, thanks" and he put it on his backpack.
He’s pretty confused the first time someone is homophobic towards him cause like that kind if behavior doesnt happen on A5 and hes just like, “why does this bother you? I hardly know you” and just brushes it off. Its doesnt really bother him, mainly cause he doesnt know the earth insults towards gay people so he doesn’t even realize, but if the girls (or Toby, or even Steve, too) catch anyone being homophobic towards their friend they will attack that asshole on sight. Especially Mary and Steve
Random person on the street: Ha, *slur*
Marry: WHAT DID YOU SAY TO HIM BITCH???
Krel: Marry its fine, it’s not that big of a dealoHSEKLOSANDGAYLENMARYGETOFFOFHIM
Marry: SAY IT AGAIN ASSHAT, I D A R E YOU
Claire and Darci: *trying to hold Mary back* maRY NO
Steve: THATS MY NINJA KICKING SPACE ANGEL GIRLFRIEND'S BROTHER BUTTSNACK I'LL END YOU
Toby: *now chasing after Steve to stop him* stEVE NO
Mary would 100% find out who the rando is and destroy their life on social media. Like she would leak their job, phone number, email, school/college (if applicable) to her thousands of followers and absolutely ruin them with no remorse. And honestly, good for her
Also whilst on the subject, Krel can not drive or cook for 2 reasons: 1. Hes gay and 2. He’s a prince so he’s never had to do either before
Like he can obviously do math but that’s it.
Proof? That one scene in Wizards when Douxie had him drive the airship. You know the one.
Coach Lawrence refuses to get in a car with him at Drivers Ed after the 3rd day Krel shows up.
Krel gets addicted to sugary coffee shop-esc drinks thanks to Darci. Not coffee cause we saw in 3Below Part 1 that he doesnt like coffee, but refreshers, coolattas, frappuccinos etc…? Definitely.
As for warm drinks, he’s more of a tea person.
Moving on
He face calls Aja everyday because he really misses her
He tells her all about school and his friends and whatever and Aja tells him about the changes she’s making to the A5 government
Thanks to the wormhole they visit each other often. Sometimes Steve tags along cause he misses his ninja kicking space queen angel girlfriend. (And Eli, but that's also for another post)
They take turns housing Luug.
Krel genuinely loves it on earth, but he hates the primitive technology so he begs Aja to send him supplies and materials for his projects.
He would 10000% apply to HexTech for an after school job. Seeing his reaction to HT in Wizards and the fact that “Akaridion tech and magic are so compatible”, he would be the perfect addition to the HT staff.
The Wizards wouldn’t be sure at first but after he shows them A5 tech and Douxie’s email of recommendation about the time loop thing they made together, the wizards are like “oh yeah we definitely keeping this kid. This is going to be so much fun.”
Their inventions become more and more extravagant because Krel can and he's just extra and the wizards love it.
He would definitely find a way to use magic using A5 tech. But he would have to study magic in order to figure out how, so the wizards help him learn all about magic. And since he's learned everything there is to learn about science and technology and whatever, he's super excited to learn about something completely different and interesting. The wizards are happy to teach him. He would be the first Akaridion to learn and use magic
Like he would make his own staff with his serrator and everything. He's like "earn a staff? Nah fuck that going to make my own"
Speaking of which he really likes human swear words. But he doesnt know when it is and isn't inappropriate to say these swear words so he's gotten in trouble a few times for swearing at the wrong time
For example:
Ms. Janeth: excuse me Mr. Tarron?
Krel: what the fuck do you want?
Everyone in the room: krEL NO
Anyway, back to Krel at HT, thanks to Toby, he would definitely have a bowl of candy in his little lab. More like multiple jars of different candy just scattered around the room. Small candy like fun sized chocolate and skittles and jelly beans and whatever
And a mini fridge, of course.
Steve, Toby and Arrrgh come over to the lab alot to mess around.
Toby has a lot of sci-fi requests for Krel to make
Toby: do you think you can make a shrink ray? Laser blasters? Invisible ray? My own hoverboard? My own serrator *gASP* WITH A WARHAMMER SETTING???? WITH SPACE ARMOR TO MATCH???!!!???!
Krel: Toby you already have a warhammer and armor why do you need more?
Toby: I dont have a space warhammer and armor Krel!!!!!!
Going back to school life, I feel like Krel would take an interest in Spanish class. I mean, his human form is latino and in Trollhunters (I'm pretty sure the lightning in a bottle episode) he said "Si" in response to a question someone asked him, so I feel like he would like to learn another human language.
I also feel like he would just like to learn about Latin American culture in general since Mother gave him that form. He'd like to get in touch with his human self.
Claire (when she isnt busy Trollhunting with Jim and the gang) is happy help him learn about Latin American culture and help him with his Spanish.
Krel, being a fast learner, becomes fluent quickly with a perfect accent.
Señor Uhl, who already liked the Tarrons to begin with, would really appreciate this.
Claire's dad would also appreciate this.
Since he has such a fascination with human music, Krel would especially love Latin American music. Specifically reggaeton, since its kind of like techno music in a way and he already likes techno music.
And naturally, he learns to dance. All the styles of latin american dances. And he becomes quite the favorite on the dance floor.
He and Claire become great dance partners cause they both have the natural Latino rhythm and because Jim respects and trusts his girlfriend he doesnt mind them dancing together at parties and stuff
Although, Jim does ask for dance help at some point cause it looks like fun and he wants to dance with his beautiful talented incredible amazing gf and Krel is happy to teach him and anyone else who wants dance help.
GUITAR LESSONS with Douxie cause in 3Below Krel said he really wanted to learn how to play guitar, steals Shannon’s guitar from the bonfire and is seen multiple times strumming it throughout the series. So of course this is included.
Toby introduces Krel to YouTube and Krel instantly makes his own channel.
of course his channel is called DJ Kleb and he posts his tracks and remixes. and maybe even some vlogs
its a little slow at first, only Arcadia Oaks students are subscribed to it but Mary blows it up by posting one of Krel’s tracks on her own social media and now he has thousands of subscribers
he also gained other forms of social media like Instagram and Tiktok, platforms to post his music
At this point every girl in school wants to be friends with Krel but not in the toxic GBF (gay best friend) way, girls just genuinely think he's 10x more interesting than every other boy in Arcadia Oaks
I think that's it for now sorry this is really long I just really love Krel and I had so many ideas. Feel free to add on!!
