Things to Do in the DMV in February!

Love and patriotism are alive and well in the DMV this February, with events and festivities that warm the heart and feed the soul. 

Feb. 1 – 26

George Washington Birthday Celebration

Alexandria, VA

As the adopted hometown of George Washington, the City of Alexandria celebrates his birthday every year throughout the month of February with events like the Cherry Challenge Restaurant Contest where each participating restaurant creates its own cherry cocktail, appetizer, entree and/or dessert. Washington-themed tours, ceremonies, balls, and galas educate and entertain guests. The George Washington Birthday Parade marches a mile-long route through the streets of Alexandria on Monday, February 20 beginning at 1 p.m.

Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience

Black Homesteaders of the South

National Museum of African American History & Culture Concourse, Oprah Winfrey Theater (and online streaming) 1400 Constitution Ave. NW Washington, DC

Genealogist Bernice A. Bennett tells the stories of African American families who became landowners through the Homestead Act of 1862. She explores how these families navigated the process and what this legacy means for their descendents. Make sure to catch the NMAAHC’s many February exhibitions including “Spirit in the Dark,” the story of religion in Black America, and “A Changing America: 1968 and Beyond,” which explores contemporary Black life.

Virginia Black History Month Association Events

Attend the free Black Health Fair and Relationship Seminar on Friday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. The Black Health Fair includes dozens of health organizations who will provide lifesaving information, perform on-the-spot prescreening, and/or set up health appointments. The Relationship Seminar features professional relationship experts to empower guests with information on how to keep their relationships healthy and positive.

The keynote speaker for the 2023 Virginia Black History Month Gala is veteran actor, singer, and producer Leon Robinson who played the lead role in the 2000 film “Little Richard.”

The shampoo in the shower is wrong.

So is the conditioner.

And the body wash.

None of it is familiar, none of it feels like home, none of it feels like Eddie.

And why would it? Eddie’s not here, he’s with the band recording another album, far away from Hawkins and Steve.

They agreed to this, they both did. Eddie said he couldn’t wait for Steve, Steve didn’t want him to have to. Steve couldn’t leave the kids, Eddie didn’t want him to.

But that left them here, in this weird limbo where neither of them could acknowledge that they’d “broken up” and Steve was left staring at a body wash that wasn’t theirs.

It was stupid, really. Eddie always had his own body wash anyway.

But it was always right next to Steve’s. And sometimes they accidentally used each others’ when they were too tired to pay attention to the bottle they grabbed. And sometimes they’d run out of one and forget to pick up a new one at the store, so they’d smell like each other for a few days, weeks even.

And somehow Steve was expected to just use his own body wash, with no other bottle sitting on the shelf as an option.

Because Eddie wasn’t an option right now.

Or maybe ever if things kept going well for him and the guys.

Six months is a long time to not have Eddie as a comfort, as a safe place to rest, as a home.

But six months wasn’t that long when he thought about forever like this. Forever without Eddie.

Something he couldn’t have imagined the moment Eddie held a broken bottle to his neck.

He got out of the shower without washing his hair or his body; He could do it tomorrow.

He could be braver tomorrow.

He could survive another day without Eddie. Tomorrow.

Or maybe tomorrow he could finally be the one to break. He could call him and ask how things are. He could offer to come to a show. He could tell him that he loves him and he wants to follow him anywhere he goes.

But tomorrow wasn’t today and today, Steve had to accept his decision, their decision.

So today, Steve curled up in his bed, and he thought about what Eddie would sound like over the phone when he was brave. Tomorrow.

U can’t just drop a banger like “Marc Marquez cryptic pregnancy” and disappear.. I need to to know more

i was thinking about ways to babytrap him where he doesnt just mabort that thang for career reasons, and i think this could get the job done. i also think if its vale's (WHO ELSEEEE) that theres no way he believes that marc didnt know the entire time AND he is. as many other scholars have discussed borderline insane about marc presumably racing pregnant. i mean lbr the offseason is NOT long so he had to have been, and this is in many ways one of the keenest sharpest daggers you could drive into the soft wound of vale's injury issues wrt to marc's particular brand of psycho recklessness. like what if you had TRAUMA and you were ESTRANGED from the love of your life and he was RACING while PREGNANT with your BABY for MONTHS without TELLING YOU... okay saying that. i do realize that this is somewhat the plot of one those f1 heterosexual romance fiction novels but i stand by it!!!!!!! these guys are that level of insane anyways!!!! IDK! maybe marc gets knocked up like halfway through 2015 and has the baby at testing in february. truly maximum drama maximum soap opera marc has NO idea what is happening. its the first time loitering around the same hotel since sepang 2015, and it IS the trauma track, and marc truly thinks it is indigestion (at no point does begging off bike time happen however lol) until UH OH and the baby is there. and alex walks in on marc like on the bathroom floor with a BABY wrapped in a towel and baby goo truly more freaked out than hes ever been in his life its very soap opera. and honda is very smoke and mirrors about everything until genuinely six months later a pic of the baby leaks and its a tiny valentino rossi clone with brown intelligent eyes lol. and then vale puts the (confusing i think) dots together and the shit hits the fan
