thinking about sheriff's death and coming back on his own. a tremendous feat on its own regardless of who it is but for sheriff? why not just lie down and let dissolution take you and let yourself be unmade? no more fear or pain, no more running, no more having others turn their backs on you, no more turning your back on others.

but no. instead driven by some anxious will to live, that he can't die here, not now, in spite of something. someone. a prey animal backed into a corner and now he's an unravelled ball of nerves that wants to LIVE. maybe some part scared of death, but for the first time in his life he has discovered a moment of unflinching willpower. to turn and face this, to claw back up, rather than flee further into death.

a striking parallel and juxtaposition to hank, a revenant, someone who came back different and yet not quite. but sheriff climbing out is not done with his violent grace. it is bloody, it is frightening, and it is hard. especially when the other place, fickle in its ways, seems to love showing and creating scenes that reflect the inner woes and scars of the person's narrative.

staring at the worst parts of you. forced to confront and wrestle with it again and again if you want to proceed. if you want to live, you must reclaim it. you must fight for it. and for sheriff to do that? for the many entangled, conflicting, burning reasons I can think why he would, I think its remarkable. something about him relentlessly getting back up again, tired, scared, haggard and just wanting to go home - whatever that means - but still going. no matter what

reaching the other places uppermost layer after presumed weeks, hell, months of slinking about bloodied corridors and harrowing scenes of betrayal and isolation and wimbleton over and over again. and the singularly most painful moment of pushing through that membrane of What Could Be into What Is. every atom of your narrative sundered and split and remade and reformed agonisingly. peeling through your every layer as every abstraction of you comes apart and back together again to be alive. to be Here.

and sheriff emerges to silence, no fanfare, nothing but trembling in a pool of blood and sweat under a deep red sky in the middle of Somewhere. half dead, really, but alive.

and to think, after all that, he goes back to MERC and helps properly lead and form a community within the walls of the industrial sector. i think it speaks volumes about him as a character... especially when, even despite everything, I don't think he changed all that much as a person.

What I love about Hellboy and Abe Sapien's dynamic in the comics is that, if you came into this blind, you'd expect Abe to be the voice of reason or the straight man to Hellboy's impulsive and hotheaded personality. But no, Abe is more often than not the crazy one. Hellboy would deal with fighting evil monsters and bad guys by just sighing and getting it over with, while Abe is going rabid over tearing the creature apart when he does get into a fight. Hellboy acts like it's a 9-to-5 job and will reasonably talk things out with a guy that had nearly killed him before, Abe acts like a madman in a slaughter house and his first instinct is to shoot first kill second and ask third. They're both insane, but on completely different levels.

i've seen a fair bit of... pessimism about dorym lately, esp with the ep107, for example wondering if dorian's opposing views on the gods making orym fall out of love, and i have to say. i very highly doubt it, ur fr talking about the man who has held on to will for so long, holding onto will's family and affectionately calling this *his* family too because that didn't stop when will died. i dont think falling out of love is an option or even a thought to orym.

that said, we know that orym has contingencies for if anyone in bells hells crosses the line into being a version of themselves they would despise, for anyone who jeopardizes their mission. his mission. i think, for the first time since knowing dorian, orym finally has a contingency for him. the longer dorian is back, the more orym sees how scarred he is by what's happened (understandable so) and knows that dorian is with bells hells all the way. but if he isn't...

Me rereading MDZS and having some horror flashbacks about dark shits in this novel just made me realize Skybound comic is kind of lame and childish in comparison.

Transformers brutally killed humans and other transformers??? Lol, tame shit. A demonic arm sucked people dried, a walking statue chomping on human remains, people got sucked into the wall of a haunted building and basically became some form of seal to guard a bunch of magical swords with dark energy. Oh wait, there are much worse shits in the novel.

One species decided to genocide other species for resources? Lol, snoring... MDZS has multiple of them but at smaller scales. However, the reasons for those genocides were very very nefarious that they were just ploys for power grasping.

Revenge and war made you fucked up? I mean if the aftermath of a war was almost everyone who was on board with killing off the renmants of their former enemy as inhumane as possible or apathetic to the suffering of the war prisoners/refugees. Plus, the guy that thought the new "social norm" to use your so-called defeated enemies (that were mainly elders, the peaks, women, and children) as life baits was bad and suddenly he became a boogieman of the society and hated by almost everyone...

Skybound Shockwave is horse-ass at depravity and villainy compared to Xue Yang. And we don't talk about walking waste of a character Skybound Starscream.

Skybound Soundwave? A weakass low-level green tea bitch that should lick the floor where Jins Guangyao walked on.

Skybound Arcee with her rebrand TFP revenge plot but with a father figure??? Besides that neat bonding with Carly, she's a way less cool Jin Ling that reminds everyone about how she felt terrible for her obsession with revenge too much even when the plot didn't ask her to.

Ratchet? If Wen Qing is less cool and barely contributed shit to the story before getting fridged off in the most anticlimactic way to shove a high stake onto the Autobots.

I don't need to compare Optimus Prime to Wei Wuxian because that would be a foul play.

Also, there's no one in Skybound matches the absolute loser's behavior and resentful energy from Jiang Cheng in the most exquisite way. (Starscream after issue 13 kinda similar to Jiang Cheng but sadly Starscream is death cockroach compared to Jiang Cheng)

It's fun to compare a great piece of work that embodies the "More than meet the eyes" motto better than franchise capitalized that motto themselves, lololol.

idk if it's fair to blame the chronically online brain (or the expectation thereof from writers) for recent movies being as subtle as a sledgehammer to the temple but i will either way. first the substance and now mickey 17 seem to have absolutely no faith in their audience's comprehension skills and just, hand you the metaphor and then make sure you got it about 80 billion times. maybe it's good to have such an obvious message in these times, especially given people's habit to interpret satirical characters as role models, but when your main antagonist looks about 2 foundation shades away from an snl trump impression it feels like you're just making bad art

(The last one I swear) Top 10 Gintaka moments

Arranged chronologically because it was too difficult to choose. Spoilers ahead.

1. Boke and tsukkomi

We get another glimpse into their relationship during the Shouka Sonjuku days through a memory of Zura. Gintoki appears annoyed about only fighting against Takasugi, though the latter reveals he is ahead 57-56, which means that in a short period they had already fought more than 100 times. This implies that, as the years went by, their duels became a little less frequent. But what is really interesting and adorable here is the way Takasugi acts as Gintoki's tsukkomi and playfully scolds him (ch. 563).

2. Kick the can

At Kurokono Tasuke's suggestion, they decide to play basketball kick the can. Although it is later revealed that Gintoki and Takasugi intended to counterattack the enemy the whole time, they were clearly engrossed in the game, as evidenced by the fact that they put small bushes on their heads to camouflage. This seems to be a tactic they learned from their teacher, considering Zura did it as well. Despite everything, he notices that Gintoki and Takasugi seem more enthusiastic about competing against each other to see who is the first to launch a surprise attack on the can rather than the actual war (ch. 453).

3. Naivety and embarrassment

Around a campfire, Gintoki discusses the course of the war with Sakamoto and Zura and whether they would eventually become imperial forces if their side won. Aside from this being the only occasion where Gintoki thought about a future for himself beyond rescuing Shouyo, Takasugi mocks the idea as naive. This scene appears to be after the one where they made their promise, because Takasugi is aware that Gintoki doesn't fight for the country or for fame, but for their teacher. Thus, with great confidence, he asserts that they know what they are doing and that is enough. However, the way he says it irritates Gintoki, who then proceeds to tease him about the name of the Kiheitai, followed by some insinuations that Sakamoto quickly picks up on and joins in (ch. 633).

4. Him or me

After the events with the Ikeda family, it is revealed that Takasugi and Nobu Nobu are behind the scenes. The latter notices Takasugi's hostility towards him, so he reassures him that he never intended to go after what he calls his prey, Gintoki. Upon hearing this, Takasugi quickly changes his demeanor to a more relaxed and confident one, asserting that he would not be able to take any of their heads. Before leaving, he threatens him that if he changes his mind, either Gintoki or he himself will finish him off. This is not only another occasion where Takasugi becomes upset when others talk about Gintoki in front of him, but it also shows how, even at this point and before their confrontation, he still felt some camaraderie and understanding towards Gintoki (ch. 468).

5. Lingering feelings

Gintoki didn't only become emotional in his final fight against Takasugi when he had to attack his possessed body. In their first real confrontation, there is a direct parallel between Gintoki's face before being forced to kill Shouyo and his face before cutting Takasugi. They had already been fighting for a while, but this shows that at this moment Gintoki was already on the verge of tears. He didn't want to do it, but if someone was going to stop Takasugi, it had to be him. Arguably, this is the first time it is shown how much Gintoki still loves and cares for Takasugi even after all this time and everything that has happened (ch. 519).

6. Only me

Takasugi asks Shinpachi not to let anyone else take Gintoki's head because only he can do it, which adds to other occasions where one speaks possessively about the other. But this time it is because there are still unresolved matters between them, so Takasugi asks, in his own way, that he survives, just as Gintoki asked him 10 years ago when they made their promise during the war (ch. 575).

7. Believe in him

When Hijikata interrogates Gintoki, he fills in the gaps regarding what happened with the Tendoushuu and how all the information points to Takasugi conspiring with the enemy. Despite this, Gintoki tries to defend him, highlighting the fact that Takasugi helped them two years ago and has no reason to ally with the Tendoushuu, to which Hijikata insists that Takasugi is the type to prioritize goals over the means to achieve them. Still, Gintoki refuses to speak and betray Takasugi in any way, prompting Hijikata to question his loyalty and if the reason he insists on protecting Takasugi is because he still believes in him while being interrupted by Robozaki (ch. 674).

8. Underwater fight

When Gintoki is at his limit, surrounded by a group of assassins, a boat with explosives arrives to save him, which is revealed to have been sent by Takasugi. Gintoki doesn't miss the opportunity to tease him, calling him "mastermind" or "Hikusugi-kun," a wordplay referring to his height, and teases him about his lingering affection for the Kiheitai, the latter provoking an offensive response from him. They bicker some more before they are attacked and thrown into the water, where they fight against their enemies while also fighting each other (ch. 677).

9. Shitty brat & crazy hoodlum

This is one of the most peaceful scenes that occurs between them since they reunited. Here they are not fighting each other or anyone else, but simply talking while walking, another glimpse of how their relationship used to be. They clearly look comfortable next to each other, smiling and joking, showing how happy they are to be together, although neither of them would admit it (ch. 683).

10. Go back

On multiple occasions during the final arc, Takasugi tried to convince Gintoki, both gently and harshly, to return to the Yorozuya and his loved ones in Edo. This shows how selfless his love for Gintoki was, that even if his heart was divided because he wanted to be by his side, at the same time what Takasugi most desired was for Gintoki to be happy, with the tragedy that he wasn't really aware that he was part of Gintoki's happiness (chs. 673, 677, 683, 690, 699, 703).

I feel like every fic I write with Helsknight I end up with a slightly different interpretation of him, there's like 10 different variations of him living rent free in my brain at any given time. On that note, I do not feel like I could do RnS Helsknight justice, Skye's version of Helsknight is just a completely different beast than my own even if we occasionally run up against similar themes and ideas. Love that guy I'd love to put him in situations but I do not think I could write him correctly 🙏

I was actually thinking of Evildoers Helsknight as being much closer to LaHoF Helsknight, i wanted to play a little bit with the idea of broken code that I introduced in that fic, what it might be like if that problem had been worse for Hels, and that early days anger after the cloning machine, and a thing i never got to about the universe playing jokes on players, commiting to bits they speak into existence (hence the cloning machine functioning when Beef specifically built it not to and functing in ways that aligned with the /way/ it was used etc etc there was maybe gonna be a throwaway line cub says that was vaguely watcher reference-y). That isn't to say Evildoers Helsknight /is/ LaHoF Hels, I wrote him fairly differently there than I think I would've if I'd specifically set out to write him as I did in lahof. He's kind of halfway between lahof hels and a different version for a fic idea I've got floating around atm. Bc my ass can not resist writing helsknight fics apparently

But anyways the 'could they meet' question is so funny to me we should just put as many different alternate universe versions of helsknight in a room as possible and let them loose to see what happens. I think half of them would kill each other with the hour.
