i saw ur reblog to my post and i just want to say yes, yes, yes a million times yes. i know a lot of ppl dont trust the duffers because theyre two Straight White Males, but i have so much faith because of the fact that they studied film! like these people spent years dedicating themselves to not only analyzing other peoples media and their subtext, but also studying HOW to do it. And if I know anything about film bros, its that they want their work to be treated as seriously as they treated films in school.

If theyre putting so many obvious (and not so obvious) references (in the closet at rinkomania is the most obvious one i can think of, but also the color coding and the microexpressions and set design), then they KNOW someones going to find them and piece their story together. its a love of the artform on both parts of the producers and the audience that drives the film community, and in turn, many people who ship byler. most of us are here because we love to analyze things, and we saw byler on the way, not the other way around. god i love this community

This! This exactly! We aren't people perusing every show for anything we can stretch to be proof of queerness. We're analyzers who analyzed the show and this ONE OF the things we found! (who aren't even all queer, analyzers just pick up the shit the creators are putting down).

It makes me so very happy whenever I see people respond to their doubt by diving deeper the way I do. As someone pursuing musical theatre and film, it means so much to me to be on both sides and give my appreciation and also see everyone else doing so. It's exactly that that you're saying with the Duffers! As someone in the field, giving that appreciation is like the golden rule for receiving it or even giving it to myself.

And with the Straight White Guy comments it's so hard to argue because in a general sense - they're not wrong, and it is no one's place to tell someone to put more trust in anyone, especially a large group that has a history, but I feel like this isn't so much straight guys writing about queer people as it is the same as the case with all of storytelling - they decided to tell a story with queer people in it. Which is one of the things I love so much. It's a story that isn't centred around queerness but rather the story of these people who happen to be queer but also doesn't erase the way their queerness impacts that story and accurately represents how that contextualizes this experience and motivates it differently.

Honestly, I think it's just two filmmakers - storytellers - choosing to tell a story that represents the world it's meant to reflect. Queer people don't have to be the only ones to tell stories with queer people in them - in fact, it's important that we aren't. This isn't so much them pandering to queer people for brownie points for including us or forgetting we exist because out of sight out of mind as it is just like the general audience breaking down their heteronormativity to see it, two guys who looked at the world and saw the world and put it onscreen and it includes diversity not so much because they consciously chose to add it but because unlike much other media, they didn't choose to exclude it. It's already there and they let it be, which is lovely and why it is so nice to see and why I made an entire post just dedicated to the beauty of queer people feeling like people in this story who exist inclusive of but outside of being queer too. And even paranormal shows have to reflect the real world. A story is dependent on what happens and who it happens to so the PEOPLE need to be realistic.

Confusion seeped through your face as Finn and this girl Rose explained this plan they had came up with. It’s not that you were confused what they wanted to do but more that you were barely attention because of the other millions of thoughts in your head. And the one that crowds your mind the most is of how you got to see Kylo ren. He just appeared out of nowhere and disappeared. Was their a more important meaning to it? You know it was the force it couldn’t have been anything else but that. But why?

Was just done poor excuse from him just to lure you in to the dark side? Or was it really something important. Whatever it was you know that you had to focus on the matter in hand which was the plan Finn was explaining again to Poe who also had trouble understanding. You’re inturrpted from your thoughts when you see Poe stand from his chair. He asks the same questions you also have for Finn. Mainly the question of how Finn met Rose. You would’ve thought that when you saw them and heard what they had planned toghter you would’ve felt some sort of jealousy but you didn’t feel anything of the type.

“Are you sure it’s a good plan? I wouldn’t want you two risking your lives.” You day to Finn and Rose.

“It’s a... plan but we have to do it.” Finn answered. That still didn’t help your worry but you knew he was right.

“I hate to be the solo voice of reason but admiral Haldo will never agree to this plan.” C3PO said.

“Yeah right 3PO, it’s a need to know plan and she doesn’t.” Poe said to C3PO. “You guys shut down that tracker I’ll be here to track you from light speed.” Poe then said to Finn and Rose. You joined them over by the table and looked at the screen to try and figure out the remaining parts of the plan. From the corner of your eye you saw Finn get closer to where you stood.

“Why don’t you come with us? If anything were to happen we would have you to help us out.” Finn asked you. You turned your head to look over at him and frowned.

“I would love to but I can’t. I’m to much of risk to take on the mission.Kylo Ren would feel me being there and would only make things worse.” You said to him as you looked back down to the screen. You would’ve wanted to go along with Finn to help out with any threat but it’s a risk. And plus you had already gotten out of there once and it’s like what Kylo said, if you were to be caught again he wouldn’t let you go anymore.

As they continued explaining the plan they realized that their was no way to get on snokes destroyer without getting detected. But that’s when you and Poe had the same thought. You both knew the same person who could. Maz.

It turned out that Maz was in union dispute and couldn’t join Finn and Rose so now they had to go get someone else who could. Even if you were conflicted on your feelings on Finn you still didn’t like seeing him leave to risk his life. You felt nervous to see him leave.

“Wait Finn.” You dais before he left to go to Canto bite. He stopped and turned at the sound of your voice. “Be careful okay?”

“I will.” He answered with a smile. You reached for your holder and got out one of your twin blasters and handed it to him. He was hesitant to take it from you but he did.

“Poe said you never part from these.” He said as he looked down at your blaster. You laughed and nodded your head.

“No I don’t theyre very important to me but.. I figure you’ll need it more then I do now so take it.... but just give it back when we see eachother again. I can’t go with you but my blaster can so it’s like taking a part of me.” You said to him with a small smile. He smiled in return and was going in for a kiss but you swiftly avoided it and gave him a hug instead. “Come back.” He smiled one last time before he disappeared into the ship.

You were scared. You didn’t want someone else you cared for die. You hated the thought of being alone again. That’s why you were so scared for Finn to do this. It was a fear that he might not come back....

“Sooo...you and Finn?” You heard Poe ask as he put his arm around your shoulders. You weren’t looking at him but you knew he had a smile on his face. You just rolled your eyes and nodded and parted from his embrace. “What? I don’t mind it at all I’m just saying!” You heard him say as you left him behind. You continued walking towards your room to later catch up with Poe to continue with Finns plan. And as you walked down the halls you felt that chill again. You felt everything else disappear. You knew what it was and what it meant. You continued walking towards your quarters in a hurry. As you got inside the door shut behind you and Kylo was still here. You took a deep breath and walked forward.

“Why is the force connecting us? You and I?” He asked you but just you both were clueless on the answer to the question. You saw the way his eyes examined your features and your surroundings.

“Must be something important...or maybe it’s just you lying and making me believe it’s the force.” You said to him with a sly smile but he didn’t react. Your smiled then turned to a frown as a certain question or more like questions came to thought. One specific one has been on your mind since you saw Snoke. “Can I ask you something?” You asked as you looked down at your bandaged hands and then back at him.

“What is it?” He asked in a serious tone.

“Has Snoke told you? About who my family is?” You asked him as you looked up at his eyes to try and read them. You began to feel your heartbeat quicken as you waited for the answer. An answer you weren’t sure you wanted to hear but you wanted to know you had to know. To fill these blank spots in your life.

“No he didn’t but I can help you figure it out.” And there it was again. Him trying to help you. Him making you feel a certain way. You ignored the feeling and asked the other question. It took you a minute to ask it. The question was to painful to even ask.

“...why did you do it? Why did you kill your father?” You asked him still looking up at him. This time he was the one to look away. He turned his back to face you. But you quickly went to face him. “He loved you. He really did. Yes he had flaws and made mistakes but he loved you... your father loved you thats no something I can say about my father.” You said with pain your voice. You saw the way his eyes changed. You felt it again. The guilt within him. But as quickly as you felt that it disappeared and his eyes changed too.

“I had to let the past go as should you. Let go of your past and then you’ll become who you really are...let go of that dead beat father that left you.” As soon as he said that you stepped back and looked away from him. “You know I’m right. He didn’t love you why should you hold on to him.. if he had loved you would let you suffer would he had left you?” You felt anger spark within you as he kept talking about him. Talking about your father still felt like a fresh wound to you. No matter how long it’s been you still can’t over it... but maybe he was right. Letting go of the past. “Use that anger to make you stronger.” He continued saying.

That’s when you figured what he was doing. He was only trying to make you turn to the dark side. You closed your eyes and tried to calm yourself. You couldn’t let him get to you. You couldn’t let yourself go into that darkness.

When you opened your eyes you turned to look back to him but he was gone. It was weird. What was going on. Why him? Out of all people why was the force connecting you with him? Was it something you had to do? To try and bring him back to the light side? Or was it him trying to take you to the dark side? Whatever it was you saw something in him. You always see it when you’re with him. A spark of light but he tries to hide it. Maybe that’s why the force was connecting you so you could help him but it seems that it wasn’t working instead he’s luring you to the dark side.

As much as you questioned whatever was happening you didn’t hate it. You liked that the force was connecting the both of you. Because lately youve been feeling alone but everytime you were with him you didn’t feel that way. What you didn’t know though was that he felt the same way.

Who’s the first to wake up in the morning:

Finrod! Ive written this out in more detail on another post but he gets up first maybe around 6 am,  gets somewhat ready for the day, makes tea, and prepares breakfast( on work days its a quick breakfast but always good), then he’ll lay back down with Rhys around 7 am and gently wake him up with kisses and soft whispers so that Rhys can get ready too. He’ll make sure Rhys has enough time to comfortably get ready before work. On days they have off from work, he’ll sleep in to maybe 7:30-8.15am and make tea then lay back down with Rhys for a little while then probably wakes Rhys up at 9 am or 9:30 for breakfast.

Their routine at the institute is basically the same although they get breakfast from the school’s kitchen, and sometimes go to eat with everyone else or Finrod bring it up to their room. Its a bit more common for him to bring it up to their room since Rhys isnt a morning person, crowds arent his favorite thing either. They may go eat with everyone else sometimes after Rhys has gotten comfortable with everyone. Depends on how sleepy Rhys is.

Who’s the one to make breakfast:

Finrod again. Rhys is blind so Finrod always cooks though Rhys does help as much as he can with things like stirring/mixing, pouring coffee since its easy to feel place the edge of the coffee pot on the cup and pour with time he can judge how long it takes to fill the cup though mistakes happen sometimes, he can crack eggs, things like that. Though all this depends on what time it is in the morning. Rhys is not a morning person and wont be cooking if its 6-7 am, he’ll most likely be grumping about getting out of bed, huddled in blankets, and will need to be soothed with kisses

Who’s the one to serve the other breakfast in bed:

Finrod! He loves bringing Rhys breakfast in the mornings especially since Rhys doesnt like getting up, so breakfast in bed may happen a lot.

Although deviating from the question a bit, Im sure Rhys does bring Finrod things sometimes, not cooked, but everything is labeled in braille so they probably mutually bring each other treats every now and then when theyre doing things like watching/listening to tv.

Who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work:

Rhys!! Most always, though it really depends on the situation. If Rhys wakes up with a thirst after having dreams about it, Finrod can usually tell unless hes asleep too but he almost always is woken up by Rhys squirming, moving, or making noises. In which case Finrod wakes up a bit turned on too. It could also be swapped and Finrod be the one having dreams or just a boner in his sleep and Rhys wake up.Really any number of scenarios can happen.

Who suggests they both ditch work to lay around all day:

Rhys. Hes not a morning person ( i said it like five times already but its true XD) at all and would very much like staying in bed all day. The same goes for when they were in school.

Who chooses the movies:

Well, Finrod informs Rhys about movies and lets him decide? He doesnt want Rhys to listen to something that he doesnt find interesting. But Finrod does have to actually choose movies to list in order for Rhys to pick one… so.. they both do?

Who initiates kissing during the movie, thus distracting the other from the movie all together:

Rhys? Although it could be both? Rhys sometimes doesnt really pay the movie any attention unless Finrod is actively explaining scenes to him like he usually does. I imagine kissing/making out during movies happens a lot. Rhys could smooch Finrod’s cheek/lips/jaw and it be returned then so on and so on, and vice versa. Also.. If they finish eating snacks and Rhys has food on his fingers ( idk maybe cheeto dust) and they get close to Finrod’s face, he may kiss the pad of one of Rhys’ fingers. Not really meaning it in a naughty way but he’ll definitely do it as a sweet affectionate gesture that can be interpreted in any way Rhys pleases.

Who orders lunch:

Does this mean in a restaurant? They order for themselves, although Finrod reads the menu to Rhys so he knows the options.

If this means ordering take-out then I think Finrod, even if they do have a braille house phone the phonebook isnt in braille unless Rhys memorized the number and wanted to order, or was home alone for what ever reason and wanted to order something? But generally if Rhys is home alone their food is always labeled in the fridge and in cabinets for him to easily fix himself. Plus, im not sure how Rhys would feel about a stranger bringing food to his door, and he wouldnt know how much money to give them. So i think its safe to say, Finrod is the one who orders take-out ordinarily.

Who steals food from the other’s plate without asking:

Finrod would never ( you dont steal food off a blind persons plate even if they can tell, unless eating popcorn or something thats meant to be shared)  so i’ll say Rhys. Although it depends on if he knows what hes grabbing. If theyre eating dinner they have the same thing so theres no point. I think this would happen mostly when eating sweets or snacks, theyre easier to grab and Rhys lovesss sweets. Finrod doesnt mind either, he spoils Rhys

Who curls up next to the other and falls asleep due to a full tummy:

Both? They both do this a lot its hard to tell which does it more. Maybe Rhys, but Finrod would cuddle him right back and may or may not fall asleep with him. It depends, sometimes he likes watching him sleep for a while.

Who distracts the other from trying to work at home:

Well as adults, Rhys doesnt work at home because he answers phones at work, and Finrod is a gardener/landscaper so he doesnt work at home either. ( altho in the future he does take a music teaching job but thats so far into the future im not counting it)

But as teens they both distract each other from their homework all the time and often end up forgetting everything and making out.

Who asks to go get ice cream like a five year old:

RHYS. Altho he couldnt see it, but if he knows its there or Finrod mentions ice cream dripping down his lips or chin, then yes. Rhys would be likely to say something.

Who cooks dinner:

Finrod, but Rhys helps like i mentioned above in the breakfast question, just Rhys almost always helps with dinner because its obviously not 7 am. It does depend on whats being cooked tho, something that requires a lot of chopping and cutting, like making homemade soup for example, there might not be able to help with aside from putting the chopped ingredients in the pot but Rhys will probs sit in there with him and can help make dessert if they make any. They usually only make dessert once a week or maybe once every week and a half depending how long it’ll last so they can have something to nibble on when they want it. They do have occassional unplanned treats tho like going out for ice cream, milkshakes, or some other kind of sweet. Either way, when ever Rhys can help, Finrod is more than happy to let him, he knows how Rhys likes it and its really enjoyable too. Like quality time.

Who cleans up the kitchen afterwards:

Finrod I think? But that is somewhat a group effort too to some extent. Rhys will help put dishes in the sink and maybe things like drying off the dishes and the counter after Finrod washes them? Only because washing the dishes is dangerous for Rhys, not that hes not capable of it, he could but washing knives would be extremely dangerous and he would have to feel everything to see if it was clean.. but again, knives would be dangerous because of that. So if Rhys did want to actually wash dishes one day it would have to be non sharp things and no glass, but Finrod washing and Rhys drying is a pretty good routine already so that will probably be what they stick with?

Who stays up until 2 reading:

They cant on work nights but they both do on the weekends. Readings is one of their favorite couple activities, it special. Finrod reads to Rhys while they cuddle and they enjoy it immensely.

I mean if they both had the same dialogue just like most other scenes, i woulda been fine with the fem protag romance geez..

Virion x Panne (also fire emblem awakening) i have no idea why this obscure pairing grasped my heart and why more people dony like it! I like it cos panne snipes back at virion and takes none of his shit like sully, but without the whole 'girl who says she doesnt love him in the first scene eventually loves him if he keeps wearing her down' thing. And i like all the interesting cultural exchange that comes from a really pompous nobleman clashing with a rough and tumble stern fighter from an ancient lost lineage of lapinthropes. I dunno, his development into appreciating women just seems more genuine when you have this sort of auxilary sign that he's changed. He's willing to drop his pompousness and go on a big mountainclimbing adventure just to get her a traditional courtship flower amoungst her people! And its really adorable to see that like.. Its his first time ever getting nervous around a woman, cos this time the feelings are genuine instead of just lust and nothing else. And it was hilarious that he tried to get drunk to get over his fears, and then he fumbled the confession because of it! They have so many great sarcasm battle scenes, its hilarious AND adorable! Oh man and the scene where they actually got really emotional and panne talked about hoping her dead family is watching from the moon, and virion being vunerable about his past and just... AAA its such an unexpectedly good couple for such wildly different charries!!

Avery x Mason (hustle cat) mason is the most badass lady ever holy shit everyone should date her and she should lift them all over her head and maybe seven cars. She's a biker gang badass and a super cake chef and can turn into a cat and just EVERYTHING IS PERFECT ABOUT THIS CHARACTER THANKS FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK

Husky and Cooro (+anima) i know theyre just kids but i totally get a precocious crush vibe from cooro, and like it only ever seems that husky gets embarassed over 'but what will everyone think' rather than because he doesn't like him. And husky has a lot of issues with internalized 'i need to be super manly' type anxieties and all.

Quale and Quan (ff9) okay i guess not really a ship but a past ship? I kinda saw them as a toriel and asgore type divorced couple from how stuttery and awkward quale is about how quan left and betrayed qu society. Headcanon that really it was more like 'my boyfriend wants to go adventuring and i wanna stay and live in this safe town, and he decided that adventure was more inportant than me'. I prefer this headcanon cos really neither of them would be at fault here, yknow? Complexity! Also grandpas shipping! Both great things!

Cloud and barret (ff7) cmon yo they have a load of chemistry and have so much in common backstory wise and in terms of putting up a grumpy front and being scared of letting themselves ever love again. And barret is the handsomest character in the game! And he's super tormented and in need of love just ss much as vincent geez, even if he isnt a funky fashion vampire. But he's a BIG HUGS BEAR MAN!! And he has a sweet little daughter! And there's several opportunities for cloud to act nice to marlene and seriously imagine him as a dad!! And barret even does get a 'date' with cloud if you play the game super precisely to unlock that easter egg but its clearly meant to be a joke and all. I hope maybe they could make it more legit in the remake now we're in an era of more lgbt representation and all. Also i feel bad but i never felt any chemistry between cloud and any of the female characters? It seemed like tifa was intended to be his canon love interest and all but i never liked it, and i never felt anything more than bffs with him and aerith. Plus aerith and zack is classic sweet star torn lovers! And then literally no clue why people ship him with yuffie and elena from the turks (???) Try barret sometime. We need more barret fanart in general, even of nobody else likes this ship! Appreciate him!!

Bebop and Rocksteady (ninja turtles) look, 6 year old me wanted them to get married before i even learned that That Thing Is Supposed To Be A Man And A Woman Under God or whatever. -To address the first point, sure I suppose, but compared to Zelda, Link knew Mipha since childhood, they’ve known each other a long time to both know each other as just friends and possibly something else. I say that because Mipha made the Zora tunic for Link, which is a tradition with the Zora as a sign of proposal and you don’t just propose (and I mean seriously propose) if you aren’t already with someone, just saying

-Second, I don’t care if she’s dead????? Idk what kinda of person people think Link is, but I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t just jump to be with some other girl he not too long ago in his own memories had a strained relationship with. -See the thing about that first part tho is that people can and will take that as a “it’s so obvious theyre meant to be together if they see it!!” it literally takes so little for people to see that ship where as if another couple as someone literally make a proposal gift and have their family (both Mipha’s father and brother say Mipha loved Link, while his feelings are never stated out right I lead u back to my first statement as well as then that goes double for Zelda where if you just look at how they interact it’s hard to even tell how close they are beyond Link being her protector). And the backstory isn’t so much focusing on their relationship bc it existed, it’s bc those were the pics Zelda took herself and Link was there because he was her protector, in some of them they didn’t even really interact, they’re there to help him remember and in a way catch the players up to speed with things going on. People can have their own interpretations, I’m not stopping that, but I’m also not saying “Mipha’s dead so now Link HAS to be with Zelda he has no choice!!” which is kinda sad another girl has to be out of the picture for there to be no ambiguity. This isn’t even a hate on Zelda, like she even says it herself that she’s the only one that seems to think for herself, but apparently no one else could imagine her having a love interest other than Link (shrugs). It isn’t “all about Mipha” but the girl /did/ plan to propose to this boy she was rather close too is what I’m saying. This is the one part where there is literally zero room for interpretation if we’re comparing the two. A girl and boy can have a lot of screen time together and still just be friends in the end.

I understand why they don’t because they don’t /want/ there to be any straight up love interest and I’m fine with that tbh lmao. Excuse my annoyance tho when every little hint for Zelda and Link is amped up to a million and Mipha is just left off to the side bc she isn’t a character they were already rooting for. She doesn’t matter, right? Because we’ll never hear of Mipha again lmao (tho there were serveral nice little easter eggs to past characters in botw so who knows maybe we’re on our way to a new canon), but as it stands Zelda and Link are “the destined ones” always reborn in the same timeline and meant to meet again and again, and kudos to people who like that, I also don’t mind those types of stories! Link and Zelda tho just aren’t my number one cup of tea hense when I see a more reputable ship being pushed to the background it sorta fires me up that it can just be ignored. I can’t make anyone pay more attention, but it just would be nice to have a different focus everyone once in a while. The same thing happened with Midna too and people fucking love her. This isn’t Skyward Sword where I wouldn’t even argue that there might have been more between them because they were childhood friends there and had plenty of hints to become more--this is Breath of the Wild tho, and that honor this time belongs to Mipha.

I like Mipha and Link. I don’t hate Zelda and Link, but in this particular game I don’t see them getting together either during or afterwards. TLDR: I wish it didn’t always have to be about Zel*nk and that there could be more focus from the fandom on something other than their romantic relationship that may or may not exist. I don’t mean to come off as aggressive, but it always feels like there needs to be a mountain of evidence for any other coupling to be valid in canon when Link and Zelda just need to be in the same room together.
