Crashtown Crashout Part 3

a/n: shoutout to my body for making me sick and therefore making me write this out with my newfound freetime (i slept for 15 hours on and off) life of a nurse means if you get sick you're just down and out until youre better

anyway i'm running on the drug that is dayquil/nyquil in large quantities. If theres mistakes blame that idc

Night air never tasted so fresh. Yusei stepped out of the cave mouth, silence and brisk cold greeting them. Strangers on the outside would never guess the contrasting chaos happening within this giant gravemarker.

Kalin began to stir, hands trembling against Yusei's torso, "Wh... what..."

"We're out." Yusei offered a steady hand, letting Kalin find his footing. Vision came into focus. The vastness of the desert against the night sky compared to the dimly lit caves gave him whiplash.

Kalin turned and grabbed Yusei's jacket collar, "I told you to leave me!"

He struggled against his grip, "I won't let my friend wither away in this hellhole!"

"I'm already dead!" Gravel shifted under their weights.

"Thyme isn't causing a riot just for you to throw this chance away!"

"Why do you always play hero! Not everyone needs you to save them! I certainly don't!"

The gravel beneath them gave way. Both men found themselves tumbling down the hill, definitions of sky and land blurring indistinguishably. Rocks tore at anything it could snag itself against. Blood and cloth left a faint trail as the two finally slid to a stop at the base. Yusei rose first, shaking rocks from his hair. He offered a hand to Kalin, who swat it away.

A sea of wood stopped any attempts at verbal fights. Pole markers with discs haphazardly wrapped against them. Wind carried dust towards the two; Kalin could've sworn he saw faces in the gusts.

"Graves..." the former Enforcer leader sunk to his knees, "I killed these men."

"These men are victims of the corruption in town." Yusei stood back, "You're a victim to their whims, too."

"I beat them in duels. I sent them here to die." Fingers dug into the earth, trembling with sadness and anger. "Every choice I make is laced with destruction. If I don't kill myself, I kill those around me."

"Kalin-"

"I remember everything, Yusei!" He looked back, tears in his eyes, "I killed all those people. I almost destroyed the world.... for what? A pathetic excuse of revenge?" He clutched his chest. "I meant what I said... leave me. Let fate determine my punishment."

Faint footsteps pulled the men from their thoughts. They turned, finding Yusei's runner being pushed uphill by two children.

"Nico! West!" Kalin rose to his feet.

Their faces lit up. West ran and hugged Kalin's leg, "You're okay!"

"It's dangerous here, what are you doing?"

"Returning your runner. You can use it to escape." West looked up, "You're our best shot at saving our dad and this town."

Their dad? Yusei looked at Kalin for his reaction. A faint light had returned to his eyes- a spark of hope? Remorse?

Nico clasped her hands together, "Where's the other one in your group? There were three of you, right?"

"Thyme caused a distraction so we could get away." Yusei placed a hand on his runner, "We're getting out of here. They know how to find us."

West's hug around Kalin tightened, "But... you're gonna save everyone first, right?"

The men exchanged glances, silent hesitation saying enough. Where would we even start? There's too many.

Nico made a fist, visibly shaking, "So you're leaving?! You cause this huge uproar and leave everyone to suffer the consequences? What about our dad? What about everyone else trapped here?"

"No, it's-"

"Cowards!" She cut Yusei off, hitting his arm. "We believed in you!"

Kalin placed a hand on West's head. "... we'll find your dad."

"Kalin-"

"Yusei, we have to."  

For a brief moment, Yusei saw the spark if his former leader return to Kalin's eyes. A silent nod of agreement. If it means you'll choose to live, I'm with you.

Enough of a distraction had been made. Red bandanas scattered- some shooting at escapists, others focusing fire on the current threat. Some of the runners had been caught, though, bringing the deflected reinforcements back with full force.

A bullet grazed Thyme's cheek, blood seeping almost immediately. "Hey! This marker's vintage!"

"So are you!" More shots.

"Careful where you shoot! I'm expensive!" They quipped back, dodging the barrage. The corner they found themself in only had one way out.

Running out of options. Thyme propelled themself up to the third floor, using the last of the water to do so. They have to be out by now, right?

A decrepit mining cart greeted them. Thyme pressed against the rusted metal; wheels squeaked to life. Without a moment to consider where this track could lead or if this cart would survive, they hopped inside. A minute passed when the sounds of duel runner engines gave away their pursuers.

"Get back here!" The driver increased speed, slowly gaining on the cart.

Thyme felt a breeze. Eyes adjusted to the light, allowing them to see the tunnel exit. Ahead, the track turned sharply to the left. Maybe if I-

Hands grasped the rusted and damaged brake lever. Sparks flew from the grinding of metal on metal. Thyme made the turn as the lever snapped from its place. The pursuers didn't see the turn in time. Like meteors streaking the night sky, they shot out from the cliff. Any fight against gravity is one to be lost. The fireball from their crash briefly illuminated the base of the mountain.

The cart began to wobble, threatening to collapse at this speed. Thyme kept the lever in their hand as they jumped over the cliffside. Lost in freefall, they managed to bury one end of the lever in the cliffside. Dirt and shale rained down below. The strain against Thyme's arms and shoulders was painful, but better than dying.

A cry from below, "Thyme!"

Twenty feet below, they spotted their team... with children? The called down, "Found you!"

"Let go!" Kalin positioned himself beneath them.

Concern in Yusei's eyes as he mirrored Kalin's position, "What?"

"The slope's angled just enough- you'll be fine!"

"If you say so." Thyme adjusted themself, "Break my fall, yeah?"

"Just get down here!"

Shale and stone slid beneath their feet as Thyme descended the mountain. Kalin was right- the cliffside was slanted enough. However, without the lever from before, they now had no way to slow down. Yusei sensed this, bracing himself for impact at the base. The two collided, force sending him on his back as the two slid several feet. Arms tightened around them in a protective embrace.

A groan as Thyme pushed themself up, "Thanks."

"Always." He caught his breath, eyes blinking away the settling dust. Yusei let his gloved hand caress their cheek, finding the still seeping bullet graze, "You're bleeding."

A shrug, "Yeah, some of those shots were real."

"Thyme-"

"I'll be fine," they helped him to his feet, a quick kiss placed over his fingers, "Let's get out of here."

Ground beneath them shook, pulling the team from their conversations. Revs of engines and beams from headlights made themselves known.

"I thought I smelled trouble!" Lawton and his goons made a triangle pattern coming up the hills, "Get 'em!"

Yusei rushed to his runner, "Get the kids to safety, I've got this!"

Thyme reached out, "Yusei-"

"I'll find you!" he donned his helmet and sped off.

No other options readily available. Thyme, Kalin, Nico, and West ducked into the tunnels. Breath ragged and heavy as they tried to outrun inevitable machinery. All their trust, their hope, placed in Yusei once again.

Lawton's brakes rumbled as he stopped for the red runner in front of him. "Got something to say? Or are you here to surrender?"

"Are we gonna duel or what?!" Yusei spun a smoke cloud with his back tire before speeding off in the opposite direction. Take the bait. I'm right here.

Rumbles in the earth as Lawton's heavy machinery took off after him. "Get back here! You too chicken to face me like a man?!"

Dumbass.

Hollow mine tunnels had just enough space for the battling runners. Speed World 2 took effect, locking the two into their duel.

Need me 30k slow burn poly omegaverse of Simon thinking he's just a bit of fun to them, and it's all good because it is bloody fun, innit? But really they're both very fuckin' in love with him, and trying to communicate that in a way it can't be miscommunicated is hard. simon seeing price and nik and immediately seeing how perfect they are for each other; it’s right there in their scent and how perfectly they meld together- they smell like a dream. they support each other in a way he’s only seen in relationships from movies. they’re even an alpha/omega pair but they’re not held back by traditionalist prejudice. they compliment and complete each other so fully it’s a wonder they’ve let him into their nest all

simon with his traumatised scent, letting everyone who comes near him know just how damaged he is (as if looking at him wouldn’t give it away). simon the alpha who craves an omega’s orders; who longs to submit to an alpha

simon who wishes the sweet words they whisper to him were real

wishes their scenting would extend outside the nest, that they didn’t make him wash them it off afterwards. (they just want to give him aftercare, something he’s never been offered.) that the hickeys and sweet bites left oh so gently would drift that much closer to his mating gland. (he never got the proper schooling, was never taught that marks left near a mating gland were an offer as much as a question.) that they wouldn’t see him as just some pup hauled in from the rain when they press him tight between their chests

(he is their pup and they have taken him in. they just don’t know what they’re doing wrong that he won’t stay.)

imagining the first time simon was brought into their nest was the first time he’s been in any nest and it’s bc he’s so disregulated that he’s having a breakdown; maybe gaz or soap got hurt under his watch and his inner alpha can’t handle having failed them so spectacularly and nothing they say, no platitude or reassurance, can reach him

so price does what any pack leading omega would do

he scruffs simon, waits for his eyelids to droop and knees to go weak, and drags him into his nest; pushing him into the deepest well of it with the highest buildup of safe-sleep-pack-happy scent until simon’s inner alpha calms itself enough that he falls into a stress induced sleep

price watches over him the entire time, vigilant against any threat both internal and external, and it’s in his diligence that he notices how perfectly simon’s scent blends with his and nik’s; notices how happy his omega is at having the alpha in his nest

and how much he wants to keep him there

(simon wakes up disoriented; more than a little worried about nik’s reaction to another alpha in his mate’s nest and is quick to leave the second price lets him. he misses the quiet rumble of contentment nik gives when he smells their combined scent, when he hears how long simon slept and the safety he must’ve felt with price. he misses the conversation about how right it felt and the agreement that he should stay there)

and it escalates until kon has jason pinned underneath him; TTK holding him in place. and jason---at least in my headcanon xD---is SO into it; he loves being manhandled. and it's rough and messy and they're both still snarking at each other until they just CAN'T anymore.
