im so tired ive been up since 4:30 am but ive had a HELL of a day /pos

firstly saw a red deer then a red squirrel in the morning

then my dad & i went to the coast & sweet jesus the amount of action!!! there were great northern divers everywhere, most in full breeding plumage, some even calling!! there was a small group of male red-breasted mergansers displaying & then a huge flock of 350 common scoter, all packed tightly together

onto the next bay, yet more divers, mergansers & a kestrel. THEN out very far from the shore we saw a fucking MINKE WHALE surface a couple times!!!!

on a little further: dozens of rafting manx shearwaters, ive never seen them raft before!! it was flat calm so not enough wind for their liking. THEN 3 whole harbour porpoises feeding for about an hour among the shearwaters & i even saw them logging on the surface, again never seen that behaviour irl. THEN. ANOTHER FUCKING MINKE WHALE. THATS 2 WHALES IN 1 DAY

other people i know saw jumping sea bass, common dolphins & BASKING SHARKS in the bay today so HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHAT A DAY /POS

i actually dont even cook all that much so i dont keep a lot of frozen foods either. this is my regular list when i go, usually weekly.

FASTING FOODS

okay so youre probably like. raine you arent supposed to eat anything when you fast. hear me out bc this is how i consistently fast a 20-4 schedule everyday, with a lot less binges than before, AND getting all of the benefits of fasting. and yeah, i still binge from time to time, but my binges are far less because my stomach actually cannot handle being fed over 1000 calories anymore, especially not all at once.

these are my ESSENTIALS so theyre pretty much the only things i consistently buy weekly.

cucumbers

chicken broth (0cal kind)

seaweed snacks

pickled ginger

tea (any, but i like trying new flavors ! my favorite is lemon ginger because it helps digestion, and green tea because it speeds up your metabolism. also a lot healthier than diet coke with the same amount of caffeine, also less likely to spike your blood sugar and kick you out of ketosis- which will make your cravings for food much worse)

...dont get me wrong i couldnt live without diet coke. but sometimes ill go for the healthier option.

why i eat these foods while i fast

these are foods that have extremely low cals and carbs (like less than 2 grams per/serving) so they wont kick you out of ketosis (which is the major benefit to fasting, where your body burns fat at a higher rate). when youre in ketosis, your body stops sending you as many cravings, which is why sometimes it feels easier to fast 24 hours after you last ate as opposed to 3 hours.

because i spend the majority of my time fasting, (and i would never be able to do that without these foods) i go through these items pretty quick.

but otherwise i only have to buy other healthy foods on a biweekly or even monthly basis, because i wont eat them as fast ! heres some things i rotate through depending on how sick of them i am lol.

regular food

built bars - essential for me. tons of protein, less sugar than other bars, and relatively low cal.

somebody on here introduced me to these and im soo glad they did. i dont remember who but if youre seeing this ilysm.

tuna creations packets - rly good for on the go, tons of flavors, lots of protein so they're really filling for only being 70-90cals depending on the flavor

blueberries + apples - so hard to over eat these two items, plus fiber

rice cakes - self explanatory

pistachios or sunflower seeds - great for curbing hunger, but im a little sick of them rn

a low cal air popped popcorn - i forget which brand i have rn, but its pretty good and has a lot of fiber.

chobani yogurt + yogurt protein drinks (50cal) - the fact that these r 50cals amaze me for how good they taste. the yogurt drinks are my favorite bc theres actually a shit ton of protein and taste pretty good without actually having to make myself a protein shake. the cookies and cream and peaches and cream are my favorites ive tried. good for breaking a fast with.

They're certainly an interesting pair!! I can see Taco liking puns, if they're clever enough, but I can not see her admitting to it lol. She would hold in any and all laughter, unless it came from someone she really trusts like Mic. Cheesy is quite persistent, so I can see him potentially getting a giggle or two out of Taco, though I don't her appreciating the "yo mama" jokes he's apparently taken a liking to. Overall I think they could get along pretty well in smaller doses, but Cheesy would just be too much for Taco. Between Pickle, Mic, and Mepad, Taco definitely seems to prefer a more low-key sort of person, yeah? Too much silliness and noise would probably discourage her, between reminding her of her s1 persona, contributing to her habit of deflecting through humor, and getting her worked up without a chance to decompress, I think.

yes ive heard about that....... im answering your ask late oops haah but i hope the situations a Bit better..... the toxic parts of this fandom give me a headache but my usual motto is to stay off twitter, touch grass, ignore people, and then hold onto my own viewpoints unless proven wrong alsjdflsdj but like. yeah this fandom is a bit tough to stay in when it comes to certain circles (for example the amount of people low quality shitposting / ranting about the fandom or whatever on rezero ao3 atm in the past days/weeks is. mm. interesting). not my first time being in larger fandoms that make you sometimes feel like youre fighting in the trenches (you could name off a few big fandoms notorious for being toxic that date back to like 2016 and odds are ive been in a couple lajdlf) but yeah seeing people complain about liliana and capella's designs and then overly fixate on emilia's boobs when these three characters have more to bring to the table than just that and theres lots and lots of good things to say about the s3 trailer and their designs..... mm. yeah. im squinting hard at a few of the things ive heard on that. but anyway!!

like the new designs are an Improvement. In General. like ok, as a boob haver myself ("boob haver" is the funniest phrase to me alsdjfls but it is true nonetheless, i am one) i do not give a shit about emilias larger boobs like ok?? her boobs are bigger?? she is still my fav ever and sometimes it just happens when youre still a growing teen/young adult and emilias back to her more revealing main outfit when she wore a different outfit in s2 so the difference in chest size is really not that much. but liliana and capella? those are Improved designs. i think ive talked abt the treatment of underage characters / characters who appear underage on my blog before (and i definitely couldve worded myself better then but i stand behind the fact that some of the stuff otsuka and tappei do regarding this in rezero is just Unnecessary).

could designs like emilia's still be improved on in other ways? yeah 100%, just in the sense that there could probably be changed a bit to fit her slightly more timid and soft spoken personality. or you could take different directions on it in general if you wanted. ive seen some great redesigns of her main outfit!! though her main outfit in of itself is pretty nice to look at imo and its iconic and well-known for a reason. im of the personal opinion that i wish it was a little less revealing in the same vein that her s2 main outfit was (i like that outfit a lot!!) but its still a really solid design overall.

i had some faith after seeing the anime designers fix up typhoon's original design to be More Appropriate, and i love how the essence of liliana and capella's designs were kept the same. like its not just that theyre a little less revealing (and even then, theyre both still showing a lot of skin!!! which is good!!! i like the improvement while keeping the main stuff the same), but stuff like liliana's pants aren't transparent (probably to make it easier to animate?) and the yellow/orange gradient in capella's hair looks great!! they also both look more like grown women which is a bonus. unless youre Weird about this shit which is unfortunately a small percentage of the rezero community. like you cant win with those sort of people ig, bc capella's boobs are bigger too ljasdlfj youd think that win more people over.

also i appreciate capella's sports bra bc unlike elsa's outfit it Actually looks like it's supporting her chest. if youre someone with boobs and you dont have a flat chest, youre gonna need support when being active or itll Hurt. and elsa Does Not have proper chest support okay. ill forever wince remembering elsa's design in that sense HAH....

anyway but i digress. i got no clue what to do with toxic people in fandoms despite spending a lot of time lurking in large fandoms with loud toxic people haah.... its hard to do much about it especially with increasingly declining media literacy rates everywhere.... the notorious misogyny/homophobia/etc that can happen sometimes in anime communities.... that sort of thing. i kinda just avoid it when it comes to rezero in specific, or briefly talk about it on here, or rant about it to myself in my head or chat with pals about it in private if it really frustrates me that much!! and id say im a pretty patient person hah... im not frustrated often. and the fandom is not all weird people of course and i can attest to that as ive chatted with a lot of people here... ive also seen a lot of people leave due to the fandom's Issues which is. totally fair tbh.

and i think rezero is often a "baby's first fandom" so to speak... i dont mean that in a bad way of course but its more like its the first exposure to fandom and fandom etiquette and fic etiquette and that sort of thing when it comes to english circles. or at least its a pattern ive noticed, so my theory is that that occasionally that combines with toxic fans and then you get a few people complaining about the community and how bad our fics are on rezero ao3 ig lajdlfjsdlf. which is false by the way :<< and an annoying misuse of ao3 as a free creative archive :<<

but ultimately i hope the rezero character designer's alright (and honestly theyve done super super great work - like the anime Did Not need to give emilia a bajillion outfits and go above and beyond with improving liliana, capella, giving the suwens and their hometown a whole unique aesthetic, etc). and also while i have stuff to criticize with otsuka and tappei... and the toxic parts of the fandom hah... i still enjoy rezero apart from that and the uproar with the designs has not chipped away at me too much!! ive been in this fandom long enough i guess lmao i just roll with punches at this point T^T but i also just try to look on the bright side a lot in general so ;-;;;

For simplicity if I'm mentioning a particular headmate I'll either use the main name they use or their source name (if theyre an introject and there's not another member with that name)

Our headspace is very large and very complicated lol plus idk a lot about it since I'm very frontstuck and can't actually access headspace very well atm so some info might be a bit inaccurate or simplified but I'll do my best

General Info

So our headspace is sorta structured like a whole universe with different areas/sisasystems structured a bit like galaxies. The area in between different areas is called Void and it's a sentient headspace so we consider them a member (we also have 3 other sentispaces that I'll talk about in other sections).

Most of our areas are numbered as well as named (except 1 which I'll talk about in its section) so the basic names are Area 0(.0) - Name

Fronting Rooms

Area 1.3 - Fronting Area 2 - TARDIS

TARDIS is one of our sentispaces and is out current active fronting room. You can probably tell by the name that it's a tardis lol. There's not really much more explanation I can give really, it's set up a bit like a mix between 10, 11, and 12's tardis'.

Area 1.2 - Fronting Area 1 - Mecha

Mecha is our previous fronting room and is currently inactive/not being used. It's basically a metal room with fancy details on the walls and a control panel with an office swivel chair and a giant screen (like the ones in a movie theatre) above the control panel. This was our fronting room through highschool (I'm pretty sure) up until about mid last year I think?

Area 3.1.1.1 - Fronting Area 3 - Tenebris

Tenebris is I think the fronting room that was used in our childhood, tho I'm not entirely sure of that. It's not used anymore at least. Idk exactly what it looks like but it pretty much looks a bit like a typical abandoned movie theatre? It's quite dark and dusty and falling apart. It's not in a great area of headspace so noone really goes there except the members that live there. This area's been inactive since our childhood except for when I got stuck here while our headspace was pretty much going through an almost complete overhaul (after Mecha and before TARDIS). It was only for a very short time tho, maybe a few hours to a few days at most (can u tell our memory's shit lol). Did not like it there, it was scary.

Area 1 - Pathfinder Galaxy

This is the area which the current fronting room (TARDIS) and the previous one (Mecha) are in. It also has the sidesystem which has the first members discovered during our second and official syscovery. There are a lot of members living here and quite a few others that don't technically live there but visit regularly.

Area 1.1 - Machina

Machina is another of our sentispaces and includes three other areas that I've counted. Machina and pretty much just looks like a field of grass with some low hills and stuff.

Area 1.1.1 - Cherry Cottage

Cherry Cottage is an area within Machina and is basically a large field with a cottage on top of a hill and some very big cars and utes by the cottage lol. There are 2 members (Ashley and Cherry) that live there and the cottage is pretty much Ashley's and the cars are Cherry's but they share them.

Area 1.1.2 - Sanctuary

Sanctuary is the area most of the littles in Pathfinder Galaxy live as well as another one of our sentispaces, Gaia who looks after the littles. This area is a big flat field with a big tree with flowers on it in the middle and it's constantly twilight there. Around/under the tree theres fairy lights and some other decorations (mostly space themed).

Area 1.1.3 - Castle Meadow

Castle Meadow is a big reasonably flat field. It has 2 of our 3 Howl's Moving Castle fictives, Calcifer, who is a big castle on wheels lol, and Flame. We had to move Calcifer there from where he formed coz he was too close to Sanctuary and we didn't want him accidentally hurting the littles.

Area 1.4 - City of Arches

City of Arches is basically that, an area with lots of arches that looks a bit like a city lol. Think like a courtyard with the entrances being arches. Idk how to explain it well lol. Anyway some of our My Hero Academia fictives live there (Akari, Eijiro, Gin, Izuku, and Katsuki).

Area 1.5 - Oasis

Oasis is an abandoned city in a desert next to a forest. Sam is the only member who lives here since it's his source home (minus the abandoned bit). There's lots of tall buildings (think like apartment or office buildings) which are falling apart.

Area 1.6 - The Void

The Void is another area where only 1 member, _, lives. It's literally just what the name says, a void. There's not much to describe about it except it's completely black with nothing in it except for very very far away stars.

Area 1.7 - Schola

This area looks like the high school we went to lol. More specifically it's focused around the area outside the library where everyone put their bags. Again there's only 1 member who lives there, Bip. The area has a few bags there but it's mostly empty. It's literally an exact copy of the school tho lol.

Area 1.8 - Avis

I have no idea what this area looks like but it exists at least lol. Bird, Purple, Virgi, and Virgil live here, that's about all ik.

Area 1.9

Again, don't know much about this area apart from the fact that most of our Jujutsu Kaisen fictives live here. Actually I think all but 1 of our JJK fictives are here lol. Pretty sure it looks a bit like the Tokyo jujutsu school but I'm not entirely sure.

Area 1.91

Also doesn't have a name, and don't question the numbering convention it helps with the folder ordering on Simply Plural >:P (/lh). Our Hermitcraft faitives Grian and Mumbo live here.

Area 2 - Genesis Theatre

This the area our Genesis sidesystem lives in, who were the members discovered in our first syscovery. It looks like a typical theatre with a wooden stage and red curtains and those seats where the bit u sit on folds up. The soft bit of the seats r red and the hard plastic bit is black. Pretty sure this area has had an upgrade since we first found it.

Area 3

I couldn't think of a name for this area when doing the rest so it's just area 3 for now, but I think it fits tbh. This area isn't really a physical area, it's just the name for the overarching area of headspace where the next areas are. I'm not gonna talk about the areas here too much coz I don't wanna get stuck there again or trigger anyone from there closer to front.

Area 3.1 - Nighgate

This area, oh boy, this is where our main malicitors are. Not a good area. It looks like an abandoned town.

Area 3.1.1 - Duskfort

This area looks like an abandoned house, it's part of nighgate so the vibe is similar. One of our malicitors plus an instructed-persecutor as well as a little and another headmate live here. So yeah... not a great area to be in. Not gonna say any more about this area coz I don't wanna get the attention of the malicitor. Oh yeah, Tenebris is in this area too.

Area 3.2 - Construction Zone

Couldn't think of a better name for this area lol. This area is where all our newly formed fragments who didn't split off anyone else and have very little autonomy/personality/etc live. I have no idea what this area looks like so I'll have to leave the description there.

Area 4 - Void

This area is another overarching area with 4 others in it. This is where all of our outer-members live. I'm not gonna split the 4 areas up and describe each of them since idk exactly what they look like and they look pretty similar anyway. The names of the areas (for now) are Exo-Void, which exists entirely outside the system, Void, which exists outside the system but closer to it than Exo-Void, Intra-Void, which is almost inside the system, and Outskirts, which is technically inside the system but right on the edge. Idk if u know what I mean by outside and inside the system but I hope it makes some sense? Like our outer/demi-members are "outside the system" as in they are technically part of the system but they exist "outside the body"? Idk how to explain it lol.

Area 5

Area 5 also doesn't have a name yet, but it has all of our Doctor Who fictives. It pretty much is it's own universe inside our system universe lol.

Area 5.1 - Gallifrey

I mean, not much to describe here, just look up Gallifrey from Doctor Who. It's just it's own full planet, very pretty tho, very orange lol. In our system at least, it's pretty much a desert planet with some very big mountain ranges with small towns and cities all over the planet.

Area 6 - The Boiling Isles

Again, not much to describe, it's the Boiling Isles from The Owl House. Just a giant skeleton with people living on it. Our Owl House fictives, Hunter, Pancake, King, and Whisper live here.

Area 7

This area has our uni friend group factives. It looks like a large dining hall with a big table in the centre.

Area 8 - Fantasia

Fantasia has the appearance of a typical fantasy world. The areas in it are pretty much just different areas of this one, they're connected but still definitely separate areas.

Area 8.1 - Iris Regnum

Iris Regnum looks like a typical kingdom in a fantasy world. It's got a castle with a city surrounding it, and some fields and a large forest right beside it. As well as training areas for things archery and stuff like that, typical fantasy stuff lol. Jack, Robin, and Will live here.

Area 8.2 - Faery Forest

This area is the big forest that's right beside Iris Regnum, the two areas overlap a bit. Clay, Fern, and Via live here. It's pretty much just a big forest with some abandoned/overgrown towns, castles, and other structures.

Area 9 - The Computer Room

The Computer Room is a typical school computer room lol. It's just a reasonably dark room with a few small windows near the roof and lots of desktop computers around the room. This room is used for gaming by our youtuber factives/faitives, but the members who are technically the full time inhabitants are Matt, Puffer, Smii7y, and Jaren.

Id say its less like chips for dinner and more like fairy floss. Mostly air, disappears into your mouth immediately, doesnt sustain you at all. Its barely worth the sugar hit.

I think its also ok to want a story with low tension, because even low stakes high tension can be stressful. But in that case we have to absolutely love the character down their bones, which means, without big challenges to garner sympathy, they gotta be incredibly competent and charming and larger-than-life, in which case theyre not relatable - which I think would be fine could work really well - but writers and editors tend to want relatable characters I imagine especially for coziness. You want reader insert.

Cause story elements are quite flexible, but if you leave out too many you dont have a dish anymore, just some ingredients. You left out the seasoning so its all bland, or you forgot to put liquid in the soup so it burned.

Something like Legends and Lattes I think could also work if the setting was really deeply a character, but in my memory its just fantasy coffee shop au. There was a big magic cat of some kind is my main memory, but it wasnt super distinct.

Maybe this is a better metaphor, as I was becoming more disabled and less able to cook, I made a minestrone soup entirely out of cans and pre-made broth. It was all the same ingredients as when I made it from more-scratch but it came out terrible. If you have a generic coffee setting + generic fantasy setting (the + makes it more interesting but not much bc ....its just a coffee shop au its been done a gazillion times) + reader insert character + no stakes or tension to the plot....theres nothing left to be The Interesting Part.

Though for me the weirdest part of the book was not fully trusting the low stakes especially in the final third. I never felt like i could relax because she has a sword shes been an adventurer, shes having dealing with a local magic gang, maybe the tension is about if she'll pick up her sword again. So it was a weird tense experience for me in a way that didnt break or resolve because I didnt feel like I could be sure that these low stakes were going to stay low stakes, even with a blurb on the cover about how chill it is.

For a reccomendation though, theres a picture nook called The Tea Dragon Society with a very interesting world (and such pretty art), and interesting take on dragons, really cool characters, the protagonist is a kid who acts like a kid. Its a small story about four people intergenerationally bonding over care for dragons that grow tea. Nothing like, showstopping revolutionary, its not a michelin chefs newest dish, its more like that friend or relative whos food you love because its a really good version of the familiar. I think thats ny food metaphor for it.

Cozy Fantasy and Why It Doesn't Work

I think I am among many who feel like they should love cozy fantasy and have found it an incredibly lacking genre.

This newly branded "cozy fantasy" genre that has taken readers by storm since 2020 and while it is new that books are now marketed as cozy, the genre itself isn't new. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones is a great example of the genre before it was labeled and also how to make it work.

Cozy fantasy is defined by many as fantasy with low stakes. Fantasy aesthetic but less sword fights. On paper, it sounds great. But the execution has been less than stellar for readers like me. The lack of physical stakes has also impacted the emotional stakes of these books, creating forgettable characters with boring problems. As a romance reader, I find this frustrating. Romance is known for being a predictable and formulaic genre, the now defunct Romance Writers of America defined romances as needing happy endings, a term romances have continued to follow. Yet these romance texts manage to have low physical stakes (how to date your neighbor, how to confront your toxic friends, etc) while still maintaining high personal stakes that keep readers invested and begging for more. So I was initially confused why cozy fantasy authors struggle to write texts that connect to readers like me.

I think I have found the answer which is the genre is just here for vibes. It is all about aesthetic, not even worldbuilding that fantasy is known for as most cozy fantasy I read have so many problems as soon as you ask one question. It is hard to acknowledge that a genre that is pitched to work for readers like me doesn't work for many of us. Especially because occasionally there is one that works beautifully to my taste.

I often say my favorite cozy fantasies that are more contemporary are short and visual, which I plays into the idea of the genre being an aesthetic. The Bakery Dragon by Devin Elle Kurtz is a good example because it is a simple story that is given the perfect amount of pages and gorgeous visuals without dragging on when the message is very clear and easy to understand. Books like The Phoenix Keeper and Legends and Lattes have absolutely nothing for me, their very clear message hitting the reader over and over so the readers don't miss it and focusing on the aesthetic of worldbuilding rather than the reality of the fantastic elements within the world.

I guess my point is. . . I realize this genre isn't for me since I have realized it is more of an aesthetic than anything. .. .but I want it to be. Should I let it go and put my efforts elsewhere? Or should I keep exploring this new trend and find the hidden gems?

i dont know how many female characters ive actually hated, like probably only the ones who do stuff that i find irredeemable like being a bad parent, but i cant think of an example atm... my standards for female characters is very low like i like all kinds of personalities of girl characters and even if theyre treated badly and one-dimensionally by the writing i still see merit in them and think abt what they should have deserved. but this is especially evident for widely-hated female characters ive never had a reason to hate them, sometimes i would even be baffled to learn people hated them afterwards bc i could usually say well their feelings were pretty justified... like amber from invincible and skyler from breaking bad (i have only seen the first 2 episodes but this probably still counts. walter was SO RUDE to her when she asked a REASONABLE question i literally jaw dropped...)

ending my brief hiatus with a quick life update

started a new job pretty cool, got harassed albeit deservedly, got catfished, my nephew lives with me now, easter was chaotic but i got candy yay, went to visit my grandparents, the government walked into my room and misgendered me, failed and succeeded to make a shitty awesome birthday cake for my dad, i get my driver's permit tomorrow, and oh yeah school's kicking my ass

I died so much at the fatui since my team was like lvl40/35, but it's pretty easy after you take out the hydrogunner with electro like with Lisa or Razor. After that, you should take out the anemoboxer since he's the one with the shield. Don't use elemental attacks when he has his shield up though. For the cryogunner, you wait until he's spraying at your character (eg. Lisa) then switch to another person (eg. Benett) so you can get behind them easily. Hope this helped <3

i think a major problem is is that when all 3 of them are there, there's SO much going on and all 3 are attacking with super powerful attacks that before u know it your health is low AND WHEN U GET HEALTH BACK FOR YOUR CHARACTER AND THEYRE "FULL" (BULLSHIT mechanic might i add <3) and then ur just kind of fucked ?????????

i ascended my characters to level 45 atm cause i don't have anymore shit to level them up with atm and i don't rlly feel like farming....sigh......frustrating......i feel like i'm being punished for starting this quest 😭🤚🏻

I think the numbers look wrong because lack of testing, and in some cases, the pressure to keep them low. Because the numbers look wrong, that’s why there are lots of conspiracy theories around Covid.

I can’t imagine where you live in the UK not to know anyone who’s had it. I do think it seems a lot more prevalent in cities so if you’re very rural that might be relevant.

I also think it’s a seriously complex illness we don’t fully understand yet, and that’s perhaps why some of the data/outcomes look strange.

I do think you have to look at what we are being told critically.

However, the idea that it’s a conspiracy to tank the economy- that’s pretty mental. Who would be doing that? The government? That’s the absolute last thing they want!

If the numbers look weird, I think we can largely put that down to Tory incompetence.
