spicy take incoming but i kinda wish ppl werent so desperately attached to and protective of this moniker of Great Big Brother 100% Perfect So True And Real when it comes to childe bc honestly. he really isnt (perfect or even that good at times) and to me acknowledging the ways both he and his family (for enabling him) are in some ways kinda just. doing teucer incredibly dirty in the long term but only with the best of intentions in the short term is so much more interesting than just pretending hes a flawless brother?? like it only adds to the drama and irony of it all man like theyre rly so dysfunctional as a family unit its great. even if hoyos likely never exploring that shit in its true depth it still lives rent free in my head for sure lol

like this stuff can be nuanced and coexist with his absolutely 100% genuine commitment to protecting teucers bubble of a worldview (and w the theme of childlike dreams and wishes being so prevalent in general who knows what could be cooking w that one in particular) and his loyalty and love for his family without just having to whitewash the dumb shit he does lmao

like just bc hes capable of and willing to face the potentially grave repercussions of absolute bangers (🙄🙄) like teaching an actual fucking child to consider ruin machines fun besties and 100% insta ready to fuck himself up by protecting teucer at the cost of aggravating his still-unhealed injuries from the liyue AQ when dottores abandoned lab turns out to be more lively than expected doesnt. make that choice not a very irresponsible one yall im begging 💀

like in both the entire ruin factory sequence And in general hiding the truth from teucer as extensively as childe does hes being incredibly selfish but at the same time its selfishness only rly in the way all people are when it comes to Wanting to be seen a certain way by the ones they love and care about. and thats what makes it so interesting. bc as much as the choices he makes are dubious (or like. this decision makes sense to him. a morally bisexual total omnivore ethics-wise narwhalpilled since 14 who sees exclusively in abyss shrimp colors and acts accordingly) both they and the motivations behind them are also just. So very human ones . as terrible as the implications and eventual inevitable downfall of those choices can (will) be.

like. is it not that much more fascinating to consider all the ways that childe is neither a particularly exemplary nor an egregiously bad brother just one that. Happens to be wired weird in the head and proud and flawed and with a track record of heavily suspect decision-making but that also very much genuinely loves his family man. Like i can love that about him without dismissing the fact that theres parts to how hes treating teucer that 100% can and imo rly should backfire horrifically bc. It really just is that fucked up

hes not a good brother hes Worse AMD better than that and also not alone in this like. his family is an active fucking part of this . But like still . AWESOME OK OK OK. disclaimer like i saaid in the notes about that post idk if its even an interesting au or compelling story, we made it sleep deprived while someone was joking around with our p03 and leshy. its a dumb silly au and it makes no sense but its MY cringe baby 😤😤😤 so. its not a shipping au despite hadestown being . yk. but theere is some shipping for plot reasons.

Hades - Leshy (I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS. you can tell i put a lot of thought into his and P03's relationhip in this au) Persephone - P03 (the fucking themes. the fucking THEMES.) Hermes - Grimora / Magnificus, haven't decided yet, leaning more towards grimora but i really want all 4 scrybes included :[ Orpheus - Luke (i hate that tuber boy sometimes but god damn it he will carry my story :salute emoji:) Eurydice - Kaycee. duh. (note: kaycee and luke r not shipped together in this au, they just exist to cary the plot) the fates - one of the scrybes cohorts because i think itd be funny. probably leshy's just bc of the hades thing but i think it could work with another's.

ive rewritten this post like 8 times because i just ramble endlessly about my little cringe baby au (none of my aus are good its all serotonin factory here boss).

SO PLOTLINE. i only have a feew songs in my head but the jist i it takes place after the old_data situation and p03 is away from leshy for the spring and summer n thats where luke initially learns about kaycee and starts researching her death and junk. major plot points i have is luke playing against leshy and reluctantly being told more information about her death, and its revealed he has her death card. other plot points: p03 staying with leshy over the other half of the year and their Strained Marriage (tm).

this lyric is so them. they hate each other theyre deeply in love their marriage is failing but they stay together despite it all nd in the end they try again. i know i kissed you once before but i didnt do it right can i try again and again and again /lyric does tht explain it. theres so many themes

anyway. i dont have a lot of the plot fully fleshed out bc tbh it doesnt make sense and mking it work with both stories is taking me a minute. but i love all the dumb little plot points i have made.

Gonna try and go up to the mech bosses in 1.1, but just from the hour-ish i played heres some notes abt Terraria 1.1.2 that i forgot abt in the 9 years since i last played 1.1

No way to zoom or change UI scale (im p sure i distinctly remember ui scale was added in 1.3?) So im highkey struggling bc ive always got my ui at like. Smth close to 150%. This is itty bitty

No ability to walk over 1 block tall tiles! You gotta jump! I think that was added in 1.2

Breath meter is under the health meter, also theres visible air bubbles when you go underwater (i think thats still there? And theyre just like. Smaller? Idk they were more pronounced than i ever noticed in 1.4)

No enemy health bar when attacking

CANT PLACE TORCHES ON WALLS i was so confused why it wasnt letting me place a torch

No minimap, or any map at all..???

With there being no smart cursor, you have to manually open doors and place walls

As much as i love the updated sprites for everything i do kinda sorta miss the old ore and fallen star sprites lol. Just something very nostalgic abt it

Linking Legal Eagle’s video on the OGL to hopefully spread it around tumblr amidst the fear-mongering.

The tldr is that theres legal precedent in the united states to say that rules/methodology cant be copyrighted. So as long as an individual doesnt use any of the copywrightable material created by wotc (names, characters, artwork, adventure modules, ect), but are just using the rules and systems of dnd, they would be legally fine. So things like CR and D20 are fine cause theyre basically all homebrew. Now this doesnt mean that moneybags wotc wouldnt have tried to fight them in court anyway, but the legal precedent is there, and even under the 1.1 draft they likely would have been fine. Basically, wotc are massive losers and the money grab is horrifically obvious, but their attempts at grabbing said money would have likely fallen flat in most cases.

Honest to god the biggest change for CR may be that they dont all shout “WE PLAY DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS” at the top of every stream anymore

me n adrian n micheal were in the parade and very tired so we went to sit down at the festival and happened to sit where two guys were setting up to start reading from the bible. so when i heard them planning and then actually reading i got up and stood in front of the guy reading and held my trans flag up behind me to block view of him. adrian and micheal got up to help and then more people held up flags of their own. and i was playing music on my phone even though it didnt do much sound-wise. we sang along though, which was Very loud. the two guys moved around every so often and we moved with them to keep blocking. i was focusing on obscuring visual and being louder than them, but lots of other people would talk directly to them whether it was just yelling or actually disrupting their reading to start conversation/debate/whatever. you know the drill.

at one point the guy reading laid down on his fucking stomach. still reading. the other guy said it was because his back hurt. an absolutely bizarre image to behold. especially people passing us asdfghjkl. so yeah. lots of moving around. there were a couple-few people that stayed with us for most of the two hours we were there! i love them for that. the crowd around them actually got pretty big and those people that hold signs with "weird" bible rules showed up as well. i am not really a fan of that whole notion but their presence was very distracting. the more people the better.

my throat was already so fucking worn out from yelling song lyrics. and also barking. i kept barking the rest of the way through because its very easy to do continuously and its loud and distracting. i got told i was a "good barker" so i can die happy now

the police showed up either because they saw us themselves or people might have let them know. idk though. they were telling the bible guys to leave because the whole situation "could lead to assault on either side". which was technically true, im not gonna dispute that. was not a fan of 12 fucking cops in the middle of our crowd but they were working in our favor so i just stayed quiet. guy wouldnt leave so they cuffed him. so the bible guys were removed! thats cool! an overall victory and a very fun time when i wasnt actively trying to drown out homphobic preaching! 'cause then it was just a big hangout specifically of people who were down to harass assholes. so a good crowd yeah.

i was so fucking exhausted when they finally left though. i had just walked 1.4 miles to even get to the parade, which was another 1.1 mile walk. i walked 2 1/2 miles today. more than that because of some extra walking getting to and from our car. so i was extremely physically tired from walking in a lot of direct sun in over 80 degree weather. and then i spent two hours using a fuckton of mental and emotional energy while still tired and in pain from the parade. i am tired right now and i will definitely be feeling this tomorrow. but i had so much fun! i love pride so much! and i felt like i Really Did Something today because usually when christians show up to pride stuff theyre just standing there shouting and everyone passes them but i fucking blocked them out! because i didnt have anywhere else to be and could have stood there for even longer than two hours! i would have stayed there for the rest of the fuckin afternoon! so im feeling good about myself. and i think ive earned that lol

I am taking on a project. Where i recreate my first ever terraria worlds from mobile 1.1 and 1.2 on terraria mobile for kindle fire from about 7 years ago but in pc 1.4 terraria and also using tedit

So far ive mapped out the locations of all the important structures i built as well as specific locations that Mean A Lot To Me and have pics of the whole map (tho i dont rly care abt making like the caves n shit accurate its mostly the surface and structures in relation to each other) and listed them out. heres some uhh quirks i found/remembered abt old mobile worlds

first some things that dont require pics:

- my guide’s name in my first world was Eva and i remember me n my friend being stoked about how i apparently had a trans guide bc of her name <3 i still have no idea how and Why it gave the guide that name, i think it was only in 1.1 because the world i made when 1.2 came out that i got to hardmode in, i never got a guide with that name after beating the wall a buncha times (as evidenced by the number of purple boxes in hell), nor was it ever on the wiki page for npc names. i still love eva and i will put a cameo of her somewhere in my askblog which you should check out asks are open @moon-lords-pawn <3

- if you pause while standing near a bubble machine you can see it keep making bubbles at the normal rate, but none of them like go anywhere. once you unpause they all go flying n it looks super cool w all these bubbles exploding out of the machine

- terraria crashed 14 times and i closed it myself 1 time but i think thats a fault of my kindle being Seven Years Old

- i dont think you can dye accessories! how sad

- cloud saved worlds saved to google drive, but i think before that was changed in 2016? there was a diff service it used and i have NO idea what it was called but i didnt have an account with whatever it was, so it basically meant more world space. i had one world called archery and i think i wrote about it for a writing assignment in 5th grade, pretty sure it also involved herobrine somewhere in there. anyway w the google drive cloud save it just had you sign in with google plus (so, obv, doesnt work anymore RIP) and saved your world and player files to a google drive folder. i still have my folder to this day and it will never leave, and apparently i made undyne as a cloud saved chara and used her a Lot?? and i DONT remember that

- you probably know this one but worlds were ASS SMALL before they introduced “expanded” worlds which i thiiink are just the equivalent of pc small worlds. what i didnt realize was that this also made the dungeon and jungle temple ASS SMALL

ITS PATHETIC.. also im not entirely sure but i thiiiink this is the temple i was able to get into pre plantera, i think even pre hardmode bc. see that hole at the top? that was replaced with mud that just let me mine right through it. this might not be the one that had that but i remember at least one temple i was in had it. also this temple is right above hell n i think thats funny

- i had a travelling merchant come buy and i was able to get this picture before terraria crashed, apparently this was the old diamond ring sprite?? bud i played this version for like 3 years ive seen all the old sprites but this jumpscared me

- tbh theres a lot of old sprites i kinda forgot about and most of them i don’t find that bad in comparison to 1.3 or 1.4 resprites but the old coins take the cake as the ugliest old sprites im sorry

theyre just so.. unshiny. they look like they would be massive and like super thick if you held them in your hand. they look like stale pastries

No Rooftop, No Problem as Solar Garden Pop Up in Communities

Its like rooftop solar, without the rooftops.

A growing number of consumers are buying into community solar farms that allow renters and apartment dwellers to access renewable energy produced on neighborhood plots that can be small enough to host a little league baseball game. Some are so modest theyre referred to as solar gardens.

Conventional solar farms such as Berkshire Hathaway Inc.s 550 -megawatt Topaz plant in California can spread over hundreds or thousands of acres. They sell their electricity primarily to utilities through long-term contracts. Rooftop panels, meanwhile, are mainly available for private homes, and can only work on about 30 percent of U.S. homes. Community farms offer a middle road.

Everyone with an interest in solar can now participate, told Eran Mahrer, director of utilities for Tempe, Arizona-based First Solar Inc ., the biggest U.S. panel manufacturer. Thats particularly true in high urban densities. The marketplaces clearly accelerating.

Community-Owned

Under the community farm option, customers who buy into research projects dont directly use the energy made. Thats sold directly to a local utility. Instead, their electric bills are reduced, based on how much the utility buys from the farm. In most nations the arrangement is governed by the same regulations that require utilities to buy solar power from rooftop systems at retail rates.

Community solar farms are already permitted in 14 nations, with about 100 megawatts in operation, enough to power about 30,000 homes. That includes California, the biggest solar nation, and New York, which is planning a major overhaul of its energy policies.

Over the next five years, the amount of power available may rise to about 1.8 gigawatts as more nations foster development and individuals take advantage of federal incentives, according to the Washington-based Solar Energy Industries Association. The U.S. Energy Department announced last month it would provide $287 million to help finance 280 megawatts of solar projects in low- and moderate-income communities.

Ballpark-Sized

In Rockford, Minnesota, one of the first of these projects renders 32.5 -kilowatts to about a dozen homes and an office house from panels stretched out on a hilly, ballpark-sized field. In Freetown, Massachusetts, a 1.1 -megawatt plant built last year by Princeton, New Jersey-based NRG Energy Inc ., provides power to about 160 homes from an 8-acre plot.

New York State Electric& Gas Corp. has agreed to buy power from the states first community solar project, which began building in April and is designed to provide 582 kilowatts to 100 customers who live in or near the city of Troy. Over two decades, a local resident may be able to save more than $31,000 on their electric bills, according to the developer, Clean Energy Collective LLC. As positive incentives, different groups is donating 10 kilowatts of panels to five low-income families.

At a meeting last month of state utility regulators in Nashville, Tennessee, a series of panel discussions on community solar initiatives drew standing-room-only crowds, according to Hannah Masterjohn, director of new marketplaces at Louisville, Colorado-based Clean Energy Collective.

Regulators Interested

It was crazy, Masterjohn said in a telephone interview. Regulators have become very interested in community solar. I think it will grow as big as rooftop in half the time.

There are some differences from rooftop power. People who sign solar leases — the majority of the residential market — become clients of the lease companies. With community solar, they continue to buy power from their local providers, and the utility doesnt lose them as customers.

Also, community projects use the grid to deliver power, and help pay for preserving the utilities infrastructure. That stimulates them less of a threat to traditional power companies, which are losing revenue to solar leasing providers.

Utilities ensure community solar as a bit more friendly, told Drew Warshaw, vice president of community solar at NRG Energy. By definition we have to use their transmission and distribution system, we pay for any upgrades necessary and they continue to have a relationship with the customer.

Utilities Watching

Still, utilities are closely watching how this initiative plays out, chiefly related to lost revenue, according to Chief Executive Officer Jim Torgerson of Avangrid Inc ., which owns utilities in New York and New England.

Shared solar has much better economies of scale than rooftop but net metering issues truly have to get resolved, he said in a phone interview. We think its worth the wholesale price of power , not the retail rate.

Michael Maravelias, a sales administrator for Airgas Refrigerants in Massachusetts, is concerned about climate change and wanted to do his part to reduce intake of fossil fuel, but the roof on his home is already 15 years old and would need to be replaced long before the members of the commission. He also had fears that install an system could damage his home, or that firefighters may hesitate if they find a system on his roof.

Last year, Maravelias contracted to buy power from an NRG solar farm about 40 miles( 64 kilometers) from his home in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Now his monthly power bill is about 15 percent cheaper.

I didnt want anyone drilling pits in my roof, Maravelias said by phone. Plus they appear ugly and could be a fire hazard. Now you only dont need to install solar on your roof to get the benefits.
