What is your Hogwarts house?

Hi! Im gonna assume this is in good faith once, and answer this by saying that im a trans man and have fully disconnected from harry potter because theyre bad books and jk rowling sucks if youd like to read something better id love to recommend some stuff! The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron is a series I like enough to put a quote from it on my arm, though I still hesitate to call it my favorite. It's about the greatest thief in the world as he tries to get his bounty as high as possible, accompanied by a swordsman wielding a mountain and a woman hosting the seed of a demon. The Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nyx was recommended to me by the lovely Jay Dragon and a few others at Metatopia this year, and I ended up devouring four of the seven books on the plane ride home. A child unwillingly goes through The Horrors, fighting seven angels who have been overtaken (in a sense) by the seven deadly sins. There's so much cool and interesting symbology throughout the series that's really fun to pick out when you notice it. Delicious in Dungeon is a manga by Ryoko Kui and definitely my favorite manga of all time. It's mainly about the importance of good food, as a group of adventurers end up having to traverse a dungeon with no supplies, surviving by eating the monsters within.

The Seep by Chana Porter is fun, if you're willing to get weird with it. Trina Goldberg-Oneka, a trans woman, finds herself devastated and unmoored after her wife leaves her to become a baby again. And by "fun" I mean it's a book that left me feeling like I was more of a person than I was before.

There's also plenty of really good webcomics out there, like Sakana, Bicycle Boy, Pia and The Tiny Little Things, A Better Place, We Go Together, Barbarous, Cold Sweat, ect, that you can simply find and read for free online! neil probably helps todd out with the farming and collecting stuff, but if charlie isn't threatening someones dog then he goes on adventures across the map with him, has a little collection of cats with their own little houses, also builds random little things for todd and makes todd go on boat trips with him

meeks and pitts explore the nether together and go on mining trips, they both make potions together and tell the rest of the poets theyre 'doing drugs', theyre working on an underground rail system for transport between the cool stuff they find

meeks is SO good at redstone, he makes little noteblock songs for him and pitts and he makes hidden traps that have caught cameron and charlie way too many times, pitts hides so he can screen record and he now has a 5 minute compilation video of cameron and charlie falling into traps, he accidentally caught neil once and had to run from todd wielding a trident

pitts has a colony of pandas, doesnt really 'play' the game just really really likes exploring, exclusively eats cookies

my fav hc is that their appearance is always fluctuating. from more venlike to more vanilike to any kind of blend between based off of how they’re feeling. it makes them super uncanny to look at bc u could look away for a second and they would look just slightly different when you look back. (watching their hair change color and length in real time is very freaky) eye color is their biggest emotional tell

i think they speak with both ven and vanis voices at the same time like in game. this adds to the uncanniness and about them .i think the degree to which each voice is more prominent might change based on feelings as well

i cant decide if they work more like a su fusion or just venvan piloting them around pixars inside out style

they inherited vens pass out when stressed (or when theres too much arguing in your head) genes but not the classic j mccartney yelps so they will just randomly collapse and its terrifying

naturally tries to imitate ven when they are around new people/super stressed .they can be unsettlingly close but it usually leads to them passing out again. they dont go full vani very often but in certain situations itll happen

any sort of decision making is an ordeal .but Especially when it comes to clothes and food

ive actually been very compelled to talk about this for a while, it might be a little long so ill break the page !! below will be some defining features of each version of harper :3

okie doke! harper is different in each of my versions. they share the same name and general information, as well as similar personalities, but it can vary throughout the universe they are in.

lets start with the most common on my blog, and my favorite :)

identity v !!

- seventeen years old

- born in 1881, i hc idv to be set in 1898 ( i did go on the wiki timeline to find this information... )

- they tend to be more shy and reserved, very limited to actual human interaction

- very poor at communication, often freezes up when put on the spot

- although they still work as a bard, playing songs for their town back home

- in the manor, they sometimes perform for the rest of the survivors

- they took a strong liking to andrew, tried to compliment him, proceeded to stutter their words and scurry off

- not a good look for them

- andrew took it as fear, and reserved himself further from them, very very much to harpers dismay (it only took emilys scolding to get him to realize they didnt mean harm)

- have been an unusual friendship since! theyre both shy and quiet, but andrew has a soft side that he can freely express around harper, and they feel as if they can trust him with their feelings :3 the best little/big sibling duo in the manor!

- they feel very drawn to tracy and emily, the two both very protecting of them (a bit babying, but theyll let it slide) they just enjoy their company, and often help out emily around the infirmary when survivors need any assistance.

- sixteen years old

- wields a bow, the only thing they can handle without dropping on their foot (a catalyst is far too confusing for them)

- them and razor chill out together and eat berries they find in the woods. eat berry. they love razor because they dont actually need to talk around him, the two love just sitting in silence for a while.

- is very suspicious of venti, is not stupid enough to believe that the statue of their god is NOT their best friend and the same guy who knows a bit too much about ancient history..

- i need to give them some credit, they arent stupid. just quick to act on impulse.

my dnd campaign!!

- fifteen years old

- is actually the earliest version of harper that was made, the origin!!!

- i had my first ever campaign with my friends who also didnt know how to play dnd, so we just goofed off for the most part

- i literally gave up every other skill they couldve had and negotiated with my dm to see if they could be able to magically play any instrument they found perfectly

- it worked, they can now play any instrument they want but at what cost.. they will crumble if they get slightly brushed over by the wind

- yeah so they ended up being very weak but its really no big deal

- they were on the verge of death twice, they had to sacrifice their pan flute in order to survive ( i think my dm hated them )

- they arent doing too good back there... anywya

OKAY SO! story time <3

Let me do a bit of uhh world building to explain him better:

so the current world they live in is divided by two places, the overworld and the underworld. the overworld is practically the same as ours except with magic and fun fantasy stuff hidden within the cracks :)

the underworld is split into regions of sins and each location has a ruler to oversee each section. All the damned souls are put into sections of their worst sin (lust, greed, etc) and it’s the rulers decision to do as they wish with the souls. If souls happen to escape their little cities they will literally only end up in the badlands since there’s nowhere else to go,,, they end up wandering these badlands for eternity and the longer they stay there the more they lose themselves and their original form..kind of falling into their worst sin and morphing into their worst self.

The demons that live in the underworld are strictly forbidden from going to the overworld since they NEED to keep everything contain. There was a strict contract made eons in the past and my goodness it will not be broken.

extra tidbit is that the devil does exist n hes like the boss of all the rulers but he just kinda vibes doing his things no one talks to him unless necessary

SO DAMON TIME!!

he is……. the son of wrath! each sin is kind of a bloodline?? so the rulers have to be from their sin bloodline or chaos ensues… anyway..

Damon isn’t a full demon though, his father just showed up with him one day and everyone is suuuper scared of him so they didn’t ask why hes got a half blood son and it seems like he got away with it with the other rulers?? literally no one knows why. He has a couple of half brothers who absolutely hate him because ykno,,, hes like,, an illegal being lmao,, and he kinda gets his father’s favouritism. (or thats how they see it at least,, his father is not kind to Damon at all) Typically the Wrath bloodline have. horrible anger issues lmao but since Damon is half Wrath he has much better control and instead has trained himself to use it to his advantage when fighting! the downside to this is that sometimes he can be extremely brutal and hard to control if he gets into a really intense fight. Perhaps he might do something he regrets in the heat of the moment :)

He’s been trained ever since he was able to wield a sword to become a soldier for his father and it is GRUELLING work. But now he is an extraordinary fighter! Better than his brothers so yknow,,, more hatred <333

SO one day his father sends him on a mission by himself to the badlands, to keep some of the souls from getting too strong he essentially has to decapitate them and move on since they cant kill a dead person,, just reset their bodies essentially…

while he’s doing this, he finds these gates opening and taking these monster souls through to the overworld so UHH YKNOW UH OH?? THATS BAD??? after some moral dilemmas he decides to jump through a gate,, fight some bitches (turns out,, when these monsters enter the overworld they just become actual beings again and can die!! cool!!),,, and get screamed at by the general public BECAUSE HE LOOKS INSANE??? WEIRD OUTFIT??? COVERED IN BLOOD?? GIANT SCYTHE??? normal in the underworld but yknow

the only person who doesnt either run or scream is Beau!!! she’s kinda dumb and rather intrigued because clearly Damon is just as confused as everyone else and also?? he just mauled like 3 creatures?? epic?? lmao so she takes him in and after the most confusing convos ever,, they are besties <3 she is his map, gives him fashion advice, his overworld encyclopaedia and he is her training bag, only friend and someone to teach her loads of cool tricks!! its great theyre so stupid together,, as the story goes on they form a really strong sibling bond and its clear they’ll stick together for as long as they live :) they both really need each other

Yeah. Yeah… the whole “I did a bad thing” gives my body a visceral reaction now because all of the context behind it is so upsetting.

Andrias is Disturbing. Even more so when you consider that he held himself BACK from hurting his friends at first, only showing his true side in bits and pieces just enough that they wouldn’t have believed him capable of such, but the second he met little Heart who was all his, he just…gave in to all those terrible thoughts. And eventually, he found the willpower to spread the outright abuse to his friends too. Terrible.

You know I had such a hard time writing that scene. That scene where Andrias steps on them. It’s so heart-wrenching and disturbing a concept on its own, but what makes it worse is the fact that Heart describes the whole scenario with such pretty language and without a shred of resentment towards Andrias for doing so.

They had not known what sand felt like until they are thrown against it, a tiny pebble amidst a grand ocean of grains each once lower than they, and now they are buried in them as grit and dust sprays up into the perfect and serene ocean around them, distorting it with imperfection.

When they are scooped back out of the sand, those hands feel like a messiah. Grains slide and slip through the gaps of his fingers, but those gaps are not large enough for Heart’s tiny form to. He wipes the remaining grime from them with those fingers, holds them up proudly like he is displaying a trophy. 

It’s heart-breaking. And you’ll notice a stark contrast between the way Heart describes the abuse inflicted on them versus the way Witney describes the abuse inflicted on her when her chapter comes out. Witney gets graphic. Here you want a taste? Take a taste.

Her meager struggling weakens slowly as her eyes roll back and saliva dribbles messily from her lip and the fingers on her from the other side loosen, slip off.

He sulks for a little while, but plays along good naturedy in the end because alls fair in love and war and Marco and Sabo had outplayed him fair and square, thus takes up the mallet and nails and gets to work pulling up dusty sandy tarp and scrounging around for dry brush to cushion the base tarp with

The two blondes, free of any particular duties lounge for a bit, enjoying the view, the sunset in particular but also Ace wielding a hammer

Its a nice view, watching Ace’s tattooed bicep bulge and his wrist tense with each strike, the impact washing through muscle and rippling choice flex points, like the heavy drop of his pectorals and in the lower pooch of his relaxed stomach, unfortunately oogling their laboring boyfriend wont catch them any dinner

Sabo stands up first, intent on setting up the fishing poles down by the rocky flats, Marco however volunteers to find something in the jungle, not keen on letting Marco go off alone, its not about not being strong enough (theyre all plenty of that) its about traversing an unknown stretch of land alone, its basic safety and Sabo hasnt spent alot of time with Marco since he alighted on the Moby last week

Sabo ditches the fishing gear and calls out to Ace that theyd be back before the sun fully sets, Ace grunts in response, completely absorbed in his task (endearing, considering the grumbling and pouting that had taken place prior)

Sabo catches up to Marco in two easy strides, its unusual to see him in a tshirt of all things, navy blue in colour and it sticks to him like a second skin. likewise, its unusual for Sabo to strip down to his trousers and under tunic,

“its hot,” Marco explains when he feels Sabo’s gaze tracing the contours of his covered chest, glances down at him, at his exposed collarbones, scarred and not

“It fucking sucks.” Sabo agrees, but, the trees and the sounds of the rainforest coming to life underneath the setting sun reminds him of Goa.

They capture a mammal of some kind, a large furred bear like predator with a large scaled beavers tail and long claws for digging up roots for its chosen prey. Marco had lured it out and Sabo had finished it with a precise blow to the head

They clean it out at the closest river they can find and by the time theyre done, the sun slips beneath the horizon, its a treasurable kind of silence that theyve spent together so far, Sabo however breaks it when Marco transforms fully, an enormous brilliant blue and gold beast, lays out her beautiful swan neck for Sabo to sit astride

“You hesitated.” Marco comments when Sabo finally settles just above the phoenix’s shoulders

“It feels.” Sabo ponders his choice of words, “wrong.”

“Wrong?” Marco grips their dinner in their talons and arcs their wings, “hold on.”

Sabo digs his fingers into achingly soft plumage, he knows how to ride, Karasu is much the same, he appreciates the warning nevertheless

“Its just.” Sabo hesitates again and isnt really sure why, Marco is patient the wings of the phoenix are strong and steady as they pinpoint the prick of flame along the coast, Ace having set up a beacon to their camp location, “youre so beautiful.”

“And how does my being beautiful change anything? Does it exempt me from wanting to be useful?” Marco asks with vague amusement, it colours his disembodied voice attractively

“It doesnt.” Sabo agrees, “its not important.”

Its not but, he knows Marco would be delighted if he could be more honest.

“If I could do it for you.” Sabo starts, but it feels disingenuous

“Id rather I did whatever i please.”

Marco then announces their arrival with a soft musical cry, his voice seeping into that of a songbird and back again, Ace responds in kind, not as melodic but unmistakably a response call, his whistle echoing off the cliff face

Dropping the carcass down by the roaring bonfire, Marco allows Sabo to dismount before transforming back into a man once more

Sabo turns to him, sees him bathed by the light of the flames that Ace coaxed to life himself.

“I want to do everything for you.” Sabo says finally and Marco laughs. So thats what this was all about

“Don’t listen to him Marco,” Ace sidles up with a casual armful of firewood, he captures the firelight just as beautifully and Sabo wishes they could understand him when he means what he says

“He’s a control freak like that.” Ace continues with a razor smile, hip checks the revolutionary and meanders around small boulders to tippty toe and give their phoenix a kiss

“Ill say,” Marco grins into Aces mouth, “you shouldve seen the way he kept pulling me back during the hunt.”

Sabo opens his mouth to protest, surely he hadnt been THAT bad—silent though when Ace glances at Sabo with a fond but knowing look, “he’s just like that.”

gosh i havent thought that much about shadamy in awhile!! i was REALLLLY into it tho, just as much as i was into sonamy, like i honestly couldnt decide which i liked more.

(under read more cause once again i am Just Talk Talk Talk)

obviously now sonshadamy is the way

but ok well, i think i ship them more platonically firstofall (tho im not against romantically, we just haven't seen them together that many times? i would LOOOVE more interaction with them) and she'd be really good for helping him open up more about his thoughts and feelings, encourage him to be kind and thoughtful. people like to say that Sonic is a lot like Maria, and maybe they are similar!- Maria never got the chance to be adventurous or active though, and in SA2, Amy clearly reminded Shadow of Maria just as he was about to watch Earth be destroyed. She reminded and showed Shadow the actual meaning in Maria's words, what she wanted for Shadow and thats how he was able to save the world.

Amy's a really 'get into her feelings' kind of person and i can see her and Shadow having a few arguements and disagreements and lack of communication and understanding between them. It would def be really rocky at first (while Sonic on the other hand, just *understands* Shadow and leaves him be if needed, or confronts him directly and straight to the point). It would take a long time for Amy to really understand Shadow who's a closed door, and Amy's a open book and maybe that scares Shadow. He doesnt understand someone like her, who is so selfless and kind and lends a helping hand to anyone in need, and maybe he hates being on the other hand of that dynamic- he sees it as being weak, and Amy could teach him that theres bravery in kindness.

On a happier note tho, some activities i can see them enjoying together. Clearly Amy cant keep up with him in combat or speed, but she has a good endurance, and i can see her taking him out shopping or to local game arcades, or maybe help him with gardening. he grumbles and complains at the thought of being around people and doesnt like the center of attention but i think he'd think the experience is worth it

In battle, he'd be pretty annoyingly worried about Amy, she's not as strong or skilled as him and Sonic, or as elusive and cunning as Rouge- and you know, he wouldnt wanna lose someone close to him a second time, so he'd prob jump in front of Amy all the time and Amy would get soooo pissed off at him and theyd just get into a yelling match in the middle of the battlefield and everyone else is just face palming and its sooo awkward for everyone.

Finally, sonic who's known amy like his whole life, assures Shadow that shes more than capable of taking care of herself. Yes she was the damsel in distress in the past, but she's gotten stronger, not only for her friends but for herself and he's seen the improvement. it takes a lot of convincing to calm Shadow and so maybe he tries to work together more as a team with her. He's not used to that, so he'll still mess up and still try to get the most enemies defeated, but thats because he wants all the glory. it's still kinda annoying to Amy but he's trying i suppose!

Or maybe I'm giving Shadow too much credit, maybe he leaves Amy by herself TOO much, leaves her to fend for himself, refuses to work as a coordinated team. He's always worked alone, and when he doesn't its with Rouge, and its more like theyre fighting alone but together- if that makes sense. This irritates Amy cause 'arent we friends? friends look out for each other' and he'd be like, ive always been able to look out for myself' and she'll say 'yes but not all of us are Ultimate Lifeforms like you. What's all your power and strength for if not used to protect those who need you?' and once again she reminds him of Maria's promise. She's really good at humbling him and gently or harshly putting him back in his place depending on whats going on.

Amy of course finds herself stumped from time to time and goes to Rouge a lot for advice, to which Rouge is happy to help but says sometimes its best to leave things alone as she's learned to do when it comes to Shadow. Rouge is kinda relived too, now that Amy's trying to take over as some sort of caretaker for Shadow. Takes some of the stress out of the older girl's hair. Amy can't leave things alone though and just pushes and pushes Shadow until he snaps at her and lets her have it. It sucks but at least he's communicating. Again, Amys not one to back down and tells him that what he does hurts her and his friends. Shadow grumbles that he doesnt care but he doooes when it comes to Rouge and Amy, and eventually learns that to have the girls stop pestering him is to just *tell them* what hes thinking or feeling. He learns its just easier to do that than have them bothering him for days and days.

this is a lot of "amy makes shadow a better guy" so let me think of how Shadow helps Amy for once, okay so obvs i think he'd be up to sparring with her on a lower level to help her advance her skills. She becomes a much stronger fighter. Since she doesnt have the speed he or Sonic does, he teacher her to put all she has into her Piko Hammer, helps her go through rigorous training to better wield the weapon in a more convenient manner rather than just swinging her hammer around and wasting energy when it doesnt hit. He'll even rope Omega in who's more than happy to shoot a moving target. Amy will have to skillfully weave and dodge through it all, or use her hammer to block or deflect the projectiles.

I guess he'd tried to teach her to be more careful of the people she trusted, not to trust so easily and openly. But I think she'd be pretty adamant about it, after all, she trusted him pretty much as soon as she met Shadow, and when she met Omega (E 123 Gamma? sorry cant remember if theyre the same character), along with a bunch of other baddies. She's not afraid of getting hurt or being wrong or trying to be the try hard good guy, she cares more about giving second chances to those who want it. Shadow and Amy agree to disagree but its brought up when its relevant.

hopefully this is good enough?? idk the shadamy fanfics i read back in the day, Shadow was either a really emo guy in highschool or some guy in a gang or mafia, and along came amy this really preppy girl who'd bring him out of his shell and into the sunshine, until one day her life was in danger and he'd have to save her, and sonic was either the villian or some asshole jock kid who get jealous now that amy wasnt always on him, or it was shadow's dad LOL that was THE formula for shadamy fics back then.

A little nervous rn with Loki... he seems to be a bit of a joke rn which is what I was afraid of. I hope this is just a little thing and that they’re not trying to make Sylvie better than Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. I mean, you could chalk it up to this Loki being a variant, so maybe there are other things different about him, but that begs to question, at what point does the TVA step in? We saw other Loki variants in that little hologram display in episode two that seemed like those Lokis had done a lot already.

I have so many more questions now, mostly about Sylvie. But also concerns. I really hope they are able to balance series loki with mischievous and clever and silly Loki. And I hope they don’t try to push some kind of female Loki is superior thing (I haven’t gotten that vibe yet, but it’s always a concern for me whenever I see a supposedly gender bent version of a character).

I’m having trouble forming the words for my thoughts. This episode was fun and pretty and intriguing, but probably the weakest for the three so far imo. Not to say it was bad, but it felt kind of like it was amping, then plateaued and then ended. Like we barely got much more information, but more questions and set up but it felt like it ended too quickly. Like more was supposed to happen for this episode but it didn’t.

I hope we can find a way to hear Loki sing in asgardian again, but under less jokey pretenses.

OK HIII here’s what i originally wrote before tumblr decided i couldnt post this. oh hi. ngl i got scared seeing this suddenyl pop up i thought de fans were going to GET me for that one but no i can explain. btw thank u for being thoughtful and respectful i appreciate it this isn't about kim's character at all. i feel like ppl would hang me if i commented on kim's character because i have seen people suibait over de discourse. i think the writers clearly understand systematic racism and the impacts of it. however . the worldbuilding on the other hand..... so seol (the country seolites are from, aka the fantasy equivalent of asia) is described as "protectionist and isolationist", which off the bat is very iffy because if we're talking real world correlations this is like, kind of a historical stereotype about japan and china. ppl talk about it being only a japanese and korean equivalent but a lot of the in-game discussion is very much about historic misconceptions about china. further reading: look up anti-chinese propaganda from the british colonial era and youll see the similarities in how seol is talked about in-game there are very much real-world correlations between the cultures of disco elysium. Iilmaraa, for example. many of the names (bashir being a group of people in iilmaraa) (a notable person baring the name samir) have direct correlations. these examples are of arabic and sanskrit origin, and certain people of iilmaraa are noted to participate in fasting and wield scimitars, both things correlating to real-life arabic culture (fasting being, yknow a major part of muslim holidays) (and the scimitar having been a common tool in those countries and further turned into a symbol). also digging into this specific lore and portrayal of arabic culture is like umm questionable too but like it definitely deserves its own separate post for it. my take so far is that its bad anyway seol specifically. its not... a "specific" asian country or represenative of a single culture in asia. it has like, traits of many many different asian countries (china, japan, korea) but then uses names that are korean and japanese. like it doesnt have a real-world correlation beyond "asian". becuase it just mixes everything together. kim's name for example. kim is a common korean name, kitsuragi is a japanese name. BOTH of these names are described as being seolite. the writing itself does not give you any insight into the country beyond "exotic and isolationist" which i guess is the point since youre in harry's brain and harry is like, racist already (another trait fans like to ignore apparently) but this like.... just kind of shoots itself in the foot because we do not see any discussion about seol as a country beyond racist misconceptions. so like ????????? hey de writers whats going on in there. why are you portraying an already generalized country in a way that doesnt even give any insight into anything beyond "it sucks and people are right to dislike it." but like u do not need me to tell you that korea, china and japan are all very, very diffierent countries with very different cultures (INCLUDING a history of colonization, exploitation, and imperialism of the korean peninsula). which leads into the point like. grouping all of these cultures together and generalizing them is.... ignorant at best, downright racist at worst. like i think its extremely irresponsible worldbuilding to take aspects of very very different cultures and throw them together because theyre all in asia. like i think the game is very good at handling how racism impacts people. but it still falls into the fantasy worldbuilding problem of treating asian cultures as a monolith, which is in fact a very common problem.  no one is immune to racist fantasy worldbuilding like dont get me wrong. i like disco elysium ( a normal amount.). it does something new. the way it treats addiction and mental illness in particular speaks to me, a mentally ill addict. but people really need to think before they praise the game fully because despite its strengths it is still deeply flawed and falls into the regular pitfalls of racist fantasy worldbuilding. long story short: the anti-racism game is still racist guys and i think we should talk about it more without killing eachother over it. because the behavior of a lot of disco elysium fans has caused me to believe that some of them are just not normal about it (literally they are maiming eachother in the poorest little meowmeow polls right now its crazy) (also the way i see almost everyone treat kim as a character) i kind of dont think you can claim to be anti-racist if u dont even stop to analyze the racist writing of ur favorite games. and given the fanbase of de i KNOW ppl call themselves leftists in there but like this is just my take on it and its not even an original take. i also fell into the hole of blindly praising disco elysium without analyzing its racist writing before i actually started listening to criticism about it and actually doing my own research. anyway shalom hava good one

can you expand on that (about disco elysium)? I’m not done with the game yet (a little less than halfway thru but I don’t mind spoilers) but I was under the impression that the world building was meant to reflect reality and the reason you have the options to be racist and fascist is bc that’s a part of the world and a part of Harry and you also have the option to be communist and everything. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I just would like to hear you out! no pressure to respond if you don’t feel like getting into it though. I understand it’s not fun dealing with fans who will go all out defending what they enjoy regardless of morals.

kinda perfect court au where the ravens + neil (nathaniel) + kevin + andrew all attend a v posh private boarding school in a town where all the residences know that the boys who wear those uniforms mean trouble but no one does anything bc 1. their daddies are rich as fuck and 2. their trouble tends to be mostly harmless to those outside of their school

 kevin, riko, and nathaniel have been joined at the hip ever since riko’s uncle adopted kevin when he was like 5

 riko and nathaniel already knew each other but they had their tempers, even when they were toddlers, so it was hard for them to get along until kevin came in to play middle man between the two of them and nathaniel and riko still get into petty little fights but kevin smooths it all over

 despite what their popularity and old money might suggest they were... pretty much just like every other kid their age and were kinda nerds 

 of course, at this age, nathaniel already knew how to wield knives and his skin was littered with suspicious scars, riko had been attending therapy for his anger and such since he was 8 years old, and kevin’s anxiety could rival that of a college student during finals week but no kid is perfect in this town

 so they would do silly things like make up their own intricate coded written language to leave each other messages in their hidden treehouse that they built themselves, that even their parents don’t know about

 when their school started offering latin in middle school they took to it like a house on fire 

 not only could they have a secret written language but they could learn an obscure speaking language together, they were so excited 

 going back to where it was mentioned earlier, they built a secret treehouse back in the woods that separate the wesninski and moriyama households that neither of their parents know about

 they go there constantly, to study, to hang out, to get away from their parents when nathan is too heavy handed, mary is too overbearing, tetsuji is disappointed, when kevin hasn’t been able to get his mother’s death out of his head 

 kevin tells them irish folktales that kayleigh told him when he was younger, and the three of them start to collect books about the tales that they leave in their hideout. whenever one of them is upset or having a panic attack, one of the others will hold them and tell them a tale they've memorized to help ground them

 kevin told nathaniel that he wished he could send a far darrig after nathan when nathaniel came to the treehouse with the burn of an iron on his shoulder

 (nathaniel always tells kevin that this was when he knew he loved kevin)

 they meet jean in their freshman year of highschool

 his older sister lives in the area and eventually he tells the three boys that he was sent to america from marseilles because his parents got tired of their fifteen year old child getting in trouble for street racing all throughout france when he was supposed to be attending galas and yacht parties; he was the middle child anyways, and he knew his parents cared more for his sisters which was fine by him (“honestly, nat, I don’t care about their approval anymore, stop threatening to eviscerate them.”)

 nathaniel is a little bit in love the first time he makes jean smile, and a little bit enamored when he makes jean laugh

 kevin knows the dangerously smitten look in nathaniels eyes from experience; hes grown up with those sharp blue eyes always pointed his way. kevin just rolls his own knowingly before nodding at nathaniel and hiding a smile

 theres nothing official going on between nathaniel and kevin or even nathaniel and jean but everyone knows and no one talks about it

 everything is good and well until the summer of their senior year

 the four of them spent their highschool years so far sneaking around cops, evading the law, eating ice cream at 3 am at the overlook above town, jean taking them on joyrides and using tetsuji’s money and nathaniel’s smile to get whatever they want; theyre all a little bit in love with each other, even riko

until kengo dies

 thats riko’s final breaking point

 kevin day is the one who eventually files a missing persons report after finding their hideout soaked in blood fresh enough to smell and jean no where to be found

 nathaniel wesninski is the one who finds kevin curled up and shaking, silently sobbing at the base of the tree, blood and dirt smeared over his hands and clothes

 riko moriyama is the one who gets mysteriously shipped off to a different boarding school on the other side of the coast without saying goodbye

 andrew minyard is the one who starts to decode messages that are being left daily in a seemingly abandoned treehouse that he found in the woods at the beginning of senior year when he was trying to escape his new foster brother, the wood of the structure stained a suspicious red

 jean moreau is the one missing
