The end of journal 3 and the added pages in the book of bill made me emotional man, I just feel like Ford bottled up his bill trauma for years because he blamed himself for being a fool and getting manipulated and thus shouldered it alone. but his family is there for him and supports/protects him in their own way despite this

It’s an interesting contrast like. Ford and Bill are so similar and that’s made explicit in the book, but Ford grows and overcomes his issues and learns to open up and love and trust people again, meanwhile Bill is stuck in cosmic therapy because he can never do that.

so a lot of people very justifiably point out that mabel and dipper WOULDNT have the same rift stan and ford do, especially not over something as small as what stan and ford did (the perpetual motion machine, which was the straw that broke the camels back) but i think that mabel and dipper end up going no-contact specifically because of the fact that they ended off bad with the opposite grunkles, but the grunkles also ended off WAY WORSE with each other. its sorta like this

its a very weirdmageddon 3 moment where both of them are acting like callous assholes (ford was being a jerk by trying to get the last word in and correct stan's grammar as an easy potshot, but stan ever since weird 3 started had been running his mouth about how stupid this is and how ford went and got himself captured. these old men are both equally immature, and i wont have people excusing stan's hiccups just because they find him more sympathetic) and then they end up hurting dipper and mabel in the process too.

ford probably ends up letting something slip about how the two of them together would be "limiting dipper's potential", which, of course, to mabel, makes it sound like he thinks she's dead weight, when ford really meant it in terms of "stan and i weren't allowed to be our own people either back then, some time apart may help you two mature and grow" but since he says it Like That, it comes off TERRIBLY.

meanwhile with stan- youve seen episodes like dreamscaperers and how he would act with ford in atots! he doesnt mean to a lot of the time, but stan's got a very quick mouth and often struggles with expressing vulnerability in a way that isn't sarcastic or fueled by impulse. he might be trying to stop the ensuing breakup but ends up accidentally yelling at dipper for trying to run off without his sister and that "he should really slow down and think things through because a sibling is something you never want to lose". but it comes out terribly for him, too. he doesnt say THAT its more like "ARE YOU EVEN THINKING ABOUT YOUR SISTER, YOU GOOBER?!"

and like i said before! the grunks are both in that sort of "stalemate" where theres no apocalypse to get them to talk about their feelings, and theyre both very patient men when it comes to holding grudges. so even though dipper and mabel WANT to, theres a lot of tension going on with everyone who isnt the two of them. so they feel like they cant

meanwhile i imagine mabel and billie get into some SHEEENANIGANS. classic college stuff, y'know? chaos, except specifically the human kind of chaos where you go bar-hopping and buy half-off concert tickets just cos and tape yourself to the ceiling when youre too drunk. its a way they can connect which is what billie wants (but bill's having a lot of fun too, admittedly)

ok so i just watched @fordtato and @hkthatgffan 's respective videos about their interview with THE alex hirsch and i wanna just say OH MY GOD like SERIOUSLY

im gonna put my thoughts under the cut so theres no spoilers if you havent seen it already (BUT GO WATCH THEM NOW PLEASE !!!) + its gonna be LONG so BEAR WITH ME

ok, so i have MANY thoughts so sorry if none of this is coherent 😭 (this is not in chronological order of when the questions were asked, just me spewing out my totally normal thoughts about this interview so apologies for that)

starting off:

THE BABY IS SHERMIE?!?!?!? IM SO SO GLAD WE FINALLY HAVE CONFIRMATION WE CAN FINALLY LEAVE THIS TO REST !! I WAS RIGHT THOUGH SO HA !!! ACTUALLY SCREAMING !! TIMELINE BE DAMNED (also another thanks to hana, your timeline video is genuinely awesome. i never shut up about it. ever. any time i talk to my friends abt gf and i need to refer to the timeline i go: "IN HANA'S VIDEO-") anyways, i do understand it was a last minute decision on the writer's part of "oh. dipper and mabel need a grandfather, its not ford, and its sure as FUCK not gonna be stan sooo... third brother?" and i do understand alex being like, "oh, this is about ford and stan only having eachother" so i think making shermie younger was a GOOD THING? like, stan and ford had 18 years of just them so shermie wasnt in the picture, so stan and ford technically grew up on their own so ig it works? also, when stan got kicked out, he never got to see shermie grow up, probably only saw him at events when he had to pretend to be ford (post-1983) and as for ford himself, he was too busy in college and gravity falls to really visit the family so... it works! (despite everything)

that aside, lets talk about THE CRUMBS??? like i have some quotes here because i have a LOT to say:

LIKE SUIUHUSHUSH i HATE these brothers SO MUCH (LIES) i cant actually properly express my thoughts because WOW like its clear that they both have their own trauma and they NEED to address it but theyre both too STUBBORN to do so. theyve both been alone for 40ish years so of course they need each other. they grew up by the hip, so theres no surprise that they both need each other (whether they like it or not)

ford thinks so lowly of himself at times it HURTS. like the lines in the journal about "only then would the freak return a hero" or about his guilt with bill and everything its just so important to his character im so glad we got so much ford content in this interview. like i am EATING ALL THIS UP RN

ford distracting himself with things instead of facing his problems. probably something he had to do a lot, especially with his time in the multiverse. but it really hurts because i can imagine in the 60s, they never had any great coping mechanisms? so i can assume ford was just conditioned to distract himself from stuff so he never learned how to deal with things. and i KNOW in the journal hes like "i meditate!" and im sure that does help somewhat, but it doesnt address the issue itself soooo... sorry ford, but you cant just breathe your way out of everything

ALSO alex calling ford and fiddlefords falling out a "BREAKUP" (air quotes used) BUT A BREAKUP??? this is just adding fuel to my fiddauthor-infested brain rn. i CANT

and alex saying mcgucket is thinking like, "oh i gotta be a better partner" is HEART SHATTERING like the whole talk about fiddleford being "the building guy" who is kind of just there to make machines and please ford. its honestly so heartbreaking because fiddleford loves ford so much he'd leave his wife and child to go to absolute nowhere, oregon and the fact ford is too arrogant to see fiddlefords admiration and overall love for him its just IUIUAHHAS

and i do wanna say, i KNOW bill played a big part in this, by stroking fords ego and buttering him up with his kind words because he knew exactly what ford wanted to hear and that really affected how ford and fidds' relationship was like but THATS A TOPIC FOR ANOTHER TIME. all i know is that ford isnt entirely to blame, but he still is a massive arrogant asshole and he wasnt the best person to fidds at times (love him tho <3)

but im actually so happy because this interview sheds SO much light onto FORD bcs we BARELY got to know him, and hearing it from MR HIRSCH HIMSELF is just so good because we KNOW its a reliable source because its coming from ALEX YK??? like he wrote ford so he probably knows "oh yeah, that man is guilt-ridden as FUCK" and im so glad we get some crumbs of this guy i cant get enough of him !!! (impatiently waiting for the book of bill)

ANNNDD THE TALK ABOUT MAYBE GETTING A SEA GRUNKS SPINOFF/MINISERIES??? i literally read the book of bill days ago but its only now kinda hitting me how fucked ford and bills whole thing was though cause ford literally talks about being so unable to sleep (to try to keep bill away), and when sleep inevitably caught up to him, he would wake up to his body abused and things messed with and he just couldnt seem to find an escape (and he literally didnt get to truly escape until 30 years later)

(also keeping people awake for unhealthily long periods of time is another tactic used to mess with and control people because of how it impairs brain function)

listing off the things we see in those few pages in the book of bill:

i mean, punching and scratching at a steel door for hours would be so damaging to your hands and probably hurt like hell for at least 2 days after. then bill says he was hitting fords head against a wall, though its said in a post-it as if its a joke, but he also isnt exactly above doing that, and honestly he says most things like its a joke.

i also dont need to say 'bill really doesnt know how to take no for an answer' because he makes that very clear in literally any interaction we see with him.

bill literally puts a venomous snake near ford while fords asleep, which could have killed him if he wasnt lucky+skilled enough to deal with it.

he nearly gives ford hypothermia, and in the same action actively threatens ford with the idea of making him jump off of a high spot, and like ford says, doesnt do it just so he can send a message to ford about how hes the one in control.

he gets ford in trouble with not only the law, but also with other people that are probably not very happy with him after. he mutilates fords body in several ways, and i dont think i need to go into detail on them because theyre... so ew. and he even exposes part of fords body to the world. like, its just taking his shirt off, but thats still showing off his body in a way that he didnt agree to or want

and then he attempts to (or purposefully fails to) call stan, using fords voice to threaten suicide and tell stan that ford never loved him.

and he punctuates it with a final power move, in a hallucination that he creates, hes messing with stans memories and making him feel like his body was basically about to implode

and like. okay, we all joke about toxic old man yaoi, and its a good joke and toxic old man yaoi is great and its an interesting ship, but holy fuck.

like. to say the absolute least, that had to be so, so deeply violating. its no wonder that when we see ford in the past, when he finally contacts stan, he looks like hes on the verge of shattering into a million pieces. he just went through, and still wasnt yet out of, some deeply abusive shit.

like... everything coming out lately both in this book and what ive heard is on the website, mixed with what we already knew from the show itself... the stans are both so, so fucking tragic dude. their whole lives were thrown away over things that really didnt even need to be the way they were, and then they both get into situations that are pretty damn screwed, and those situations follow them for the rest of their lives. its basically a miracle that things worked out in the end for them.

i dont really have a point, i just had to talk about all that. i read almost all of the book of bill in one sitting, and while i was really enjoying it, i was also getting kind of tired of sitting in one spot only doing this one thing for several hours straight. i still felt a lot of the emotional bits of it of course, but man this part specifically just really didnt hit me until now.

i mean, to say the absolute least, i know what its like to feel violated in a similar way, though not anywhere near to the extent of what he went through at all. someone get that man some therapy got damn

thinking about tim schafer's raw power that basically ran a game studio on chewing gum and toothpicks, loving his creation so much that he kept trying to make it for YEARS. yes, there are supporters and dedicated fans, but psychonauts 1 is still mostly a "cult classic". The people who love Psychonauts made Psychonauts 2, and didn't just *make* a sequel, but a sequel which was updated for the times (i.e. the accessibility settings, the user warning and link to mental health site, the story being *slightly* less kooky to give space to heavier ideas.)

Idk where but I think there is an interview with Tim Schafer where he essentially says that this game is for the players of the first one who grew up with and since the game, which I totally felt while playing. For Raz it's been a few days, but the player is back, is older, and maybe there are ways they DON'T fit into the world anymore, without some childlike wonder.

The game feels like it got older with me, and every moment made me Feel So Intensely because while the story is mostly about trauma and how Bad Action is not the same as Bad Person, it really feels like a story, to me, about growing up, and aging out of the world you were used to.

For me, since I was a little kid when I played the first game, it felt like the game was saying "hey, you know all of the stress and fear you get from growing into an adult? How you can't be as close to the people you care for anymore? How things you knew as fact suddenly Aren't? It sucks, but it doesn't have to. We can still find joy, and whimsy, and love in all the dark places of ourselves and others. Life is different now that we're older, but we can adapt, too. We can find the people that lift us up, grow from our hurt instead of revel in it, and, just maybe, at the end we will Learn to Swim"

While I didn't quite grow up with Psychonauts in the sense that I never managed to beat the game - it has always been with me in one way or another. I think I watched my brother play it, then it was one of the first LP's I ever watched on youtube (pour one out to the guy's channel I don't think theyre findable anymore this was like. Late 2000s/Early 2010s).

So for me playing the sequel felt like. Getting to know an acquaintance I've known my whole life after seeing each other and learning we both ended up growing up into the weird artsy person. And becoming friends!! and learning it's a small world and people are more complicated than you think. And finding out in some way you'd been drawn to each other for some kind of reason that makes sense in the end.

This whole game and experience has just felt very special to me. I feel, seen?? I feel like the story looked at me and says hey you also have your own world inside you and that's facinating and beautiful! There's people like you who go thru heartache and it doesnt "make them stronger" but they get through it and have ppl who love them.

I just remembered stuff the Otto in Bob’s mind said. How they only tolerated Bob because he came with Helmut, how he expected Helmut to be with someone taller, and I think he might’ve called Helmut handsome too. Did Bob think that Otto wanted Helmet for himself???

I think he mostly just projected his insecurities onto someone he could hear saying them-- that being his friendly joking "rival", the one guy who didn't seem that affected when everything happened.

It's that fear that you're not good enough, that the person you love really does just deserve something better. And, well, out of the 7, Otto was the most.... Abrasive, let's say. He and Bob are both the type to say exactly what they think, which means that they'd definitely project the worst into their mouth if they want to hear it from someone they could honestly hear saying it. (Ford's too much of a sap for Otto to hear him saying it and too distant for Bob to imagine it, Cassie and Compton and Helmut wouldn't say something like that ever, Lucy would only say it in jest and then apologize if theyre hurt because she didn't mean to hurt them. Otto is bad with social cues; Bob's bad with holding back his emotions.)

So if they wanted to hear the completely honest, brutal truth from someone, they'd go to each other.

(Lind holds up his hands and moves away, running. Nate and Parker move out from behind the car. Eliot unloads the gun and tosses it aside)

hey ford, could i ask for advice? awhile ago i found out that i’ve been lied to for years by many people i trusted. it’s been truly devastating, and i know i need to reach out for help to get thru this, but i’m scared to talk to friends about it. i worry they’ll think less of me for being so gullible and not waking up sooner, or worse, they won’t even care to listen at all. how do i know who i can trust to tell? (if stan also has something to say, i’d really appreciate his input too. thank you)

I’m very sorry that happened to you. 

As far as I can tell, there is no definitive way to tell who you can trust. You can spend several months knowing someone and still turn out horribly wrong about them. I don’t know your situation exactly, but I know a situation like that can make one distrust their own judgement on other people moving forward.

I would suggest trying smaller matters with your friends first, like telling them about forgetting your keys inside the house or missing your final exam due to accidentally spending an extra hour or two on an experiment that just turned up some interesting patterns. If they care about those small things, and listen to you without thinking less of you, then there’s a better chance you really can trust them. 

Sometimes you just have to try... and ultimately see what happens, for better or for worse. 

There’s some trustworthy people in the world, so statistically speaking... Eventually, it will be for the better, but it may be now and if you’ve known them for a while then it’s worth trying.

Although, of course, it doesn’t hurt to try with a few small things first then proceed once you see what happens from that.

if you ask me what it comes down to, its your gut instincts. sometimes theres lil stuff you dont even really pick up but you just get a bad feeling about a person from it.

point is if your guts telling you something then chances are theres a reason for it. and yeah sometimes its just you, and sometimes you turn out wrong, but once you find one person then heres the thing.. you got two sets of instincts to help you both out when you need it!!

oh yeah but if someones acting really shady or always seems to want something specific when you two meet up like you buying em lunch or something then theyre probably full of it. best way to figure that out and switch the script on them and see if they try to split on you there

if someone ever thinks less of you just cause you could tell someone was lying to you though then they can shove it. only one person they should be thinking lesser of in that kind of situation and if they seriously think its you then youre better off without them

What areas do you recommend visiting? Like areas youve been?

in michigan? uh. not really any i guess?

like the bear dunes are beautiful, and climbable, but also having a large issue with the number of folks who are climbing them every year adding to displacement of sand which is actually eroding the lake edges. 

seeing the great lakes from any point is pretty cool, feels like youre standing by a really cold ocean that is completely lacking the salt aspect. you cant see to the other side. 

i lived close to lake michigan (pictured above) for about 10 years. didnt get to go to it as much as i wanted but it was always a treat, even if you went to the beach down the path from the brick factory so the ground was covered in brick chunks. sometimes the brick would have quartz in it, the water was just full of the stuff. 

in the winter is worth going up north and seeing the blue ice, its literally blue ice that forms off the lake. doesn’t form every year tho. 

niagara falls is really cool, seen it on the us side but its the same falls on the canadian side. 

michigans got a lot of bogs but i think so does sc? for folks not from a place with them, i always suggest checkin out a bog. theyre cool af. 

michigan does have one of hte last, if not the actual last, free federal zoo. i haven’t been to it but my dad went and couldnt stop talking about it, he loved it so much. its in the up. i aint been to the up much myself.

of course theres downtown detroit and what it still has to offer. theres a lot of expensive shops, but you also get things like the building you can see from the people mover that is a massive structure that is falling apart and you can see a huge tree growing out of it from the center, and you know from the size of it that its been there longer than youve been alive. nature will reclaim. 

ford recently bought the michigan central station which is a bummer imo, but i guess it is just wasted space.(tho detroit sure aint hurting for empty space) it was never finished, lotta those floors there were intended for offices to be rented, but they actually literally do not have /floors/ built. abandoned before it was even done. 

bates burgers is really worth going to. theres two of them, both of them are old af. get yourself a legit af slider, well like 5 cause they sliders and you dont eat just one, that’d be weird.

if you were to hit up one museum, id say make it the dia just so you can see this mural in person.

beautiful massive mural dedicated to the working class that created detroit. last time i went it was free to get in cause they were working on the building, dont think it is now tho. they had a huge egyptian section that was mind blowing to kid me. its a legit museum so it gets a lotta shit on trade n what not, lotta stuff always coming and going. 

i can say for sure avoid like, all of oakland county. its north of detroit and its the richest county in the state so it controls everything and BOY is it somethin. thats where we got elected officials literally sayin that we should build a wall around detroit to keep its blight away from the rest of us, and said it was just like how ........oh god i cant find the quote because theyre moving forward with honestly trying to build this wall hahah fuck....see oakland county touches metro detroit.... im not really a person to hit up all the super famous spots, i like to find quiet nature spots to hang out in. like in ny most of what ive seen have been nature trails. one day i need to head up to the catskills mountains since mountains are so new for me.

i am a less stable man than i was several minutes ago and you cannot stop me talking about funny cartoon brain problems under the cut 

trying to organize my thoughts on this is going to be hell because i have a lot of them. im gonna focus on ford having bpd for this post because otherwise itd go on forever if i elaborated on Everything Else (like his near-blatant ptsd & autism or susceptibility to psychosis) but i want to quickly touch on how i think mabel and ford have a lot of very similar Brain Stuff going on especially in regard to high expectations and “oh god i have to be a good/successful person i have to live up to what i claim to be otherwise i am the WORST EVER.” I don’t know if id say mabel has bpd because making that claim seems farfetched (TO ME) when a lot of her behavior can be explained by “autistic and 12-13 and dealing with unprocessed supernatural trauma” but it Is possible because i do see a lot of that same behavior . anyway my point begins

1. you can fit so much bpd in this man

using general online source because i cant be bothered to look deeper but all of this is kind of a dead ringer for The Entirety Of Ford’s Life until he chills out a little bit with older age aka learns Some coping mechanisms. not all of them work super well but thats besides the point

ford has a running theme throughout his life where he cares so much about specific people and keeps trying to keep them as a part of his life but also incidentally ends up pushing them away and lashing out at the people who really Do want to help him and only really realizes how hes been acting when its “too late” (or at least what he perceives as being too late)

in most of these situations what hes doing makes sense to Him because at both of these points ford is acting out of a deep sense of betrayal and is unable to control how he lashes out and while this isnt necessarily Inexcusable behavior based on context (in one hes a teenager who has been living in an abusive household his whole life and has been pitted against his brother by their parents to receive attention, in the other hes being actively manipulated by bill into thinking fiddleford is Too Sensitive to make the hard decisions, not like Him) its not healthy for himself or the people around him 

bpd makes relationships hell because you cannot trust other people Or yourself. trust is a massive theme in gravity falls (duh. duh.) and learning How to trust the people who truly do care about you and letting them in is vital to the show 

going down the list i could also attribute his canon behavior to most of these common symptoms

in journal 3 and in the show ford is Frequently distressed by the idea of people finding out the “horrible things hes done/allowed to happen” when in reality almost all of those things were because of benign behavior or manipulation

he firmly believes that sharing how he feels, even when hes in genuine distress or danger, causes people to either hurt him or leave him

ford is so rigidly ashamed of Everything about himself its almost like its a staple of his personality and yet hes frequently regarded as a peppy, confident character. a lot of the times in the show i think this has to do with him purposefully avoiding exposing certain feelings or emotional vulnerability (or even experiencing them in the first place) but in the journal you get a Very clear idea of how this guy regards himself most of the time

and yet when hes noticeably upset or lashing out he has this sort of rapid flip from “oh god im a horrible person im dangerous and people are better off staying away from me” to this idea that he just has to keep Pushing himself for greatness and other people just dont understand because theyre not dedicated enough/strong enough. he has to amount to everything hes been working for but still doesnt believe that hes good enough As Is. 

I think you could probably attribute this to “well theyre twins” since ford isnt really a violent person but he has some comorbidity with the ptsd hypervigilance shit going on in general. its kind of an ongoing joke that ford has several weapons on him at all times but that level of preparation serves as a level of protection for a man who has had to get himself out of a Lot of situations by fighting for his life (even when you probably couldve benefitted by talking things through)

i wouldnt say “sabotaging success” applies here because IF IM NOT SUCCESSFUL I WILL DIE is kind of a running theme in ford’s life but this guy has jumped to self-sacrifice so much its literally like he is throwing himself at death 

its like you pull a string on his back and he says GO! SAVE YOURSELF!

im running out of energy to make the rest of this post but this one especially plays into how susceptible ford is to psychosis/bill’s specific form of manipulation and its Not “he just lacks common sense” its a strikingly real detachment from reality that leaves you vulnerable to abuse and self-destructive behavior

bill isnt Smarter than ford but hes an incredibly effective manipulator because hes literally fueling ford’s pre-existing rocky mental health like pouring gasoline on a fire. he spends most of journal 3 hearing bill planting doubts in his mind about the only other person hes close to- someone who actually does have his best interest in mind- and when fiddleford quits after experiencing something traumatic, this acts as confirmation bias for what hes been artificially made to suspect all along. why would anyone just be your friend without a catch? why would anyone remain loyal instead of taking advantage of you? not like Me, though, i Really get you. 

several times ford even considers telling fiddleford the truth but changes his mind because he fears being rejected or considered Crazy by someone he really cares about. this becomes its own cycle of distrust and resentment for something that has literally never come to pass

aside from that, ford canonicly hallucinates. frequently. you could also chalk this up to bill being in his mind but ehhh i think it speaks to ford’s existing susceptibility to bouts of psychosis/paranoia and bill yet again is just making it Worse

+i cant find it right now but he says something in the blacklight edition akin to “Theory: the things I see in the corner of my eye are actually entities from another dimension” aka I Am Totally Sane Please Believe Me I Am A Scientist 

i need to close this off but yeah i think disregarding the very real Brain Bullshit ford is experiencing over the course of the show does a disservice to his character and that his arc is less about “stupid hubris man gets knocked down a peg” and more “this guy who has been suffering for a long, long time unchecked needs to be in a stable environment with people who love him to learn how to trust others and healthily manage what hes experiencing”. at least thats how i interpret it because i think its a lot more meaningful that way

So, at least the first larger part would be basically these snippets of the Stan twins’ falling out. 

Because say what you will, but personally I believe that the fight after the science fair wasn’t the first and only upset in their relationship. I think there was stuff under the surface, while not terrible, that was still having a bit of a built up. So, it’d be these small scenes progressing from I’d say preteens/kids and on. 

The VERY first scene would have to be something important, but as a rough guesstimate I would say the first time Stan and Ford get singled apart as the ‘brain and brawn’ deal and not just that, but it’s probably Stan who goes and basically goes ‘oh haha yeah this isn’t for me it’s all smart, i’m the brawns here - you take this poindexter’ 

Then a scene with Pa basically ragging on a kid Ford for not really participating in boxing class as much and like ‘this is why you get bullied’ and ‘why cant you be more like your brother.’

and then oh a scene with crampelter/bullies with the stans as like new teens and him basically managing to physically beat them out or whatever (though it wouldn’t be a huge deal) and at the end of it ford is like ‘good thing you were here… i probably would have gotten scrapped up hah…’

THEN like 15-age range when theyre going into high school and ford is acing all this stuff and teachers of course have a parent teacher thing at the end of the year like they do and stan doesn’t try bc who cares really? geometry is a bunch of junk anyways. but the actual scene is pa basically talking to him and saying how much of an inconvenience it was for them to have to talk to the teachers regardless then they were expressing concerns for him and ‘how do you have a d in all these classes, are you really that stupid?’ and ‘its not that hard to even just get ‘b’s - heck the other one is getting all ‘a’s’ and ‘why cant you be more like your brother.’ bECAUSE I’M A SUCKER FOR THOSE PARALLELS (and also HIGH KEY i hc filbrick played that card on both of them all the time)

then a scene with them on the stan o war shortly after that with stan putting emphasis on the boat and sailing out of town and leaving it all behind and sticking together and ford being VERY quick to jump on board with the idea

then smaller more scenes leading up to the fight - as well as after the fight with snippets where they decide not to contact the other 

then post portal one or two small exchanges of them being separated 

and FINALLY 

them on the stan o war and it’s during while all of this is going great - 

and either there’ll be a lil montage of basically ford doing some brawn stuff and stan doing smart stuff - or actual scenes.

but basically a scene with them casual talking and kind of realizing that they’re not both some half of a dynamic duo that holds up one aspect and possibly stan making a joke like ‘guess we’re both a 2 for 1 package, whadya know’ 

and i think the sort of big finale/climax is them like having a heart to heart (while at port at some place of course bc yes i would) and BASICALLY the whole reason BEHIND that fight and how none of this got resolved really comes out genuine and without the snapping really - just honest ‘i was scared i was going to be all alone and i didnt know what i was going to do and i got mad but i didnt mean to break it’ and ‘i shouldnt have let dad kick you out but i was mad and scared bc dad was there too and i convinced myself youd be okay’ then them both basically saying how they never contacted the other bc of their own pride/stubborness to prove that they didn’t need someone (which though unsaid is at least implied in narrative is bc they were both RAISED to think that they were only half of what a person should have been, largely in part due to filbrick’s parenting, and thusly thought they NEEDED one another to form one respectable person)

people dont know this but grace loves to leave gifts and positive notes in peoples lockers

she notices when people are feeling down or have seen them in a bad situation in school, like a confrontation with a bully or an embarrassing moment in class

sometimes she asks around what those specific people like or enjoy so she knows what gift to get them. when they ask she says “dont ask questions you dont want to know the answer to” better to give them an intimidating vibe than a suspicious one just to avoid further questions

she stays anonymous so people dont go asking questions because she likes to keep a low profile

one boy in her science class accidentally tripped and spilled (non-chemical) liquid over the teacher and he became a laughing stock. people called him H2 Dope for days

later on that week he found a cassette of his favourite band and a note that says how admiring his skills in science are

a girl got cheated on by her boyfriend and the blame was pitted on her

she arrived to school in fear of her locker being trashed but found it to be neat and tidy as it was yesterday with a choc chip cupcake and a note that reads how wonderful and powerful she is on her own and that she was more worthy than some dumb boy that cant appreciate a great girlfriend when he has one

another girl didnt get into the schools play and was so upset she lashed out onto her friends

the next week she found a list in her locker of local theatres holding auditions and a note that teaches her about how anger can blind you to hurt the ones you love. that girl started crying as she let the note fall to the floor

the students in her year level dont know how this even happened but it just….appeared one day. they dont know who it is or why its happening

some notes make people laugh. some make them cry. some make them reconsider themselves. sometimes it works. other times it doesnt. for these people it takes them time to realise and grace knows this

grace does this for her friends too. since she knows them personally, the researching part is a lot easier and she can give them a bit of extra treatment with her gifts and speaks more from the heart with her notes

they go around telling people what happened and when they come running to grace she keeps a straight face and smiles and nods politely “good for you, man!” good thing shes a great actress

there are times when its hard to write something down, either she doesnt know what to say, or the topic is so familiar and personal to her she cant stop shaking the pen in her hand and her eyes are being blurred as they sting with tears

everytime grace sees someone or hears a story or a rumour, she keeps note of them and remembers them for her next plan.

however grace knows that she cant keep track of everyone’s problems. sometimes she walks past a group of people without knowing that theyre getting into a brawl. sometimes shes not present for an argument between friends or she doesnt share the same class with someone who was getting yelled at by a cruel teacher. grace knows theres more problems that keep occurring at glass shard beach high, heck, she knows people could be dealing with things at home. shes cant be there for them and sometimes she feels this pain in her chest because once she realises how much of an impact she has been on her peers she wants to reach out to them but she cant and it hurts her and she needs to get a grip because shes been staring at her cereal for 10 minutes now and her dad is staring at her and shouldnt she be getting ready for school?

she sits in class thinking about her next plan, the teacher calls on her for not paying attention and she claims she was daydreaming again

if you ever see grace anywhere, chances are you catch her in the midst of her inner thoughts, eyes staring out into space and fingers tapping on whatever surface shes on subconsciously

grace can’t even remember how or when she even started. shes done it for so long she just accepted it as part of her agenda at school

eventually almost everyone in her year level has been visited by her act of kindness, and sometimes students in the year levels below grace have been visited by her

they share stories with each other, finding common ground in getting visits from this mysterious do-gooder, shes like the schools local cryptid

her friends get suspicious of her and wonder why she hadnt gotten any gifts or notes yet

she dismisses them and claims that she hasnt been in any bad situation yet. maybe she doesnt share any classes with them. and thats the end of the conversation

the stan twins hear these stories and at first stan makes an off-hand comment about them and ford just laughs with him but silently wonders when it could happen to him

its been two weeks since stanford got into a particularly brutal meeting with crampelter and his goons,  (if it wasnt for stan he would have ended up in hospital) and he begins to lose hope that this kind anonymous will ever visit him.

he gasps audibly when he finds tickets to the planetarium in his locker, and a note that reads his best qualities and states how hes not a freak and hes more than just his fingers and that he has no idea how loved and cared for he is (grace might have accidentally poured her heart out a bit too much in his note)

stan fails another test and gets a lecture and a few choice words from his father. stan and grace are outside waiting for ford to finish his chess club meeting and he casually mentions it to grace like its no big deal and stan was probably imagining things but he could of sworn he saw a glint in her eye when he finished talking. he had never seen that from her before but brushed it off when ford stepped out of the school building. then later out of the blue grace asks stan what comics he enjoyed

a few days later stan comes to school bummed out because how could he forget to buy his favourite comic?? he rushed to the store last night but the last copy was already sold. if the lecture he got from his father three days ago wasnt bad enough he was expecting most of his peers to be talking about the latest issue at school so he was already dreading the oncoming spoilers. what he was not expecting was to find a copy of “The Caper Boys” issue #18 along with a note that read how smart he is and that his talents lie more in areas that arent academic. that hes strong both physically and mentally and that hes definitely not a waste of space and hes absolutely worth it and hes enough hes enough hes enough (once again grace spills her heart onto the page)

the twins show each other what they found in their lockers and begin to realise that the author of these notes sound very familiar and only one person they know of speaks of them like that

they confront grace once day and tell her they know. they know about the gifts and the notes and how she stares off into space all the time and how shes always watching and listening and only she could afford things like tickets to the planetarium and that only she writes notes as genuine and kind as that and seriously who else would have told stanley and stanford pines that they were loved and cared for in this school did you really think we wouldnt catch on grace?

she stares at them for a moment and then the poker face she keeps putting on finally breaks as she lets out a small smile

“i knew you two were too smart for your own good”

they laugh with her as she talks about her little quests and how she got into so much trouble to get most of the gifts she had given

she continues her secret quests in cheering up the school. the twins are the only ones that know about this and sometimes they help her out. one day ford asks her if she had any reason to do all this. why go through the hassle? most of these people are assholes.

“dont question kindness” she responds

what did she mean by that? ford doesnt know but it sticks with him for longer than he can admit

no one else knows that grace is responsible. not the students not the teachers, no one, but you know what they dont mind because they like the mystery, the school is crummy enough as it is and everyone knows that anyone physically showing this much compassion will be the bullies next big target so maybe they should let it be a secret just to protect this person, whoever they are because damn if it isnt delightful to be surprised by the smell of that rose perfume that lingers after she visits and the sight of a folded up sheet of lilac paper, and theyll be damned if it stops all of a sudden

when or if i started shipping it: i cant actually remember for sure? i know i started getting into the gravity falls fandom after i had caught up, which was a lil bit after a tale of two stans aired, and i completely misinterpreted fords character and didnt really like him that much until that break inbetween roadside attraction and weirdmageddon, but then once i did figure him out i got really into it, so it mustve been around then? idk

i would also like to see some more fluff with them where nobody is an asshole and they just enjoy their day, but that being said i do rly like hurt/comfort too tbh, if its like say, them trying 2 deal with their trauma and/or mental illnesses and helping each other thru it, stuff like that, not ‘ford and/or bill was a huge asshole to fids but hes okay with it bc???’ or ‘fids has 80 relatives and their only trait is being transphobic’

who id be comfortable with them ending up with, if not each other: im not rly sure? i cant think of any fandom ships for them that arent yknow disgusting and none of my own that come to mind would b that good tbh? ideally if they dont pair up, they stay good friends and fids lives a nice and comfy life in his mansion and bonds with his son while ford goes on fun boat adventures with stan, they email each other a lot and live a nice life.

my happily ever after for them: ok so i have two ways this could go bear with me - either like i said above fids lives a comfy and happy life in his mansion, he bonds with tate again, he adopts paz and possibly the dipper clones and his boat husband comes home every so often and tells him all abt his fun adventures while cuddling him and they generally have a good time. alternatively fids goes on the boat adventures with stan and ford and they have a grand old time

their favorite nonsexual activity: ford lays on the couch and fids falls asleep on top of him wrapped up in his big strong grampa arms and covered in a thick blanket and they sleep all day and wake up knowing nobody is going to hurt them ever again
