Reviewing tgcf characters because I have thoughts

I finished S2 recently and I need somewhere to put my not exactly hot but like warm (?) takes because it's taking up too much storage space in my brain.

🤍 Xie Lian 🤍

It's a good thing I'm not into guys because if I was I would be on my knees for this man in every sense of that expression and his pet menace to society would mince me up like garlic.

So I'll try to be brief about my overflowing feelings about him. Xie Lian is the best main character I have come across in a WHILE. He's the embodiment of compassion and kindness. And also a cold blooded murderer. A babygirl. A father figure. A terrifying martial god. A silly little guy. A pathological liar. The most genuine man you'll ever meet. He's everything, and Hua Cheng is 100% valid in his obsession. I'm right there with him.

Tweedle dee and tweedle dum gets a shared rating because they would hate to be grouped together like that and that's funny to me. Their dynamic is great, they're good characters, I wasn't sure which one was which until midway through the second season. But then also I have a pair of 7yo twin cousins who I still can't tell apart despite them not looking even a slight bit similar so that might just be a character flaw on my end. Oops.

🩵Shi Qingxuan🩵

I'm doubling the rating because she is best boy and best girl at the same time. I love that I can use any and all pronouns for him because he's literally a pride parade personified and therefore all of them are correct. You don't get that type of chaotic fun just anywhere.

He is truly living my dream, presenting as whatever gender they want depending on what's more convenient and/or funnier in the moment. Super useful, for things like gathering intel and terrorizing Feng Xin by being a woman.

And I personally think we should crown her the new emperor. She'd look significantly better on that throne, with her Barbie-like radiance and flourishing Kenergy.

🖤 Ming Yi 🖤

Listen, I hate to say it because I like a sunshine x grump moment as much as the next gay but he's just... not giving what he thinks he's giving. Everyone is whispering ominously about him having some dark devastating secret but MY point is no matter how big his boobs are in his female form, Shi Qingxuan could do better. I'm sorry. She really could.

Just an honest man with good intentions and a sickass fucking sword. He did NOT hesitate to attack the infamous Crimson Rain Sought Flower on SIGHT and I respect a quick decisionmaker, even if it shows some himbo tendencies. He also has the same distinct energy as Fred from Scooby Doo.

💚 Qi Rong 💚

He's got some odd dietary and moral choices going on. Definitely. But he's just such a fun villain!!! Being Xie Lian's nr 1 source of migraines SHOULD make me like him less but I'm sorry, every time he was on screen I was LIVING. He would do numbers on reality TV. Someone put this guy on Kitchen Nightmares, I need to see him 1v1 Gordon Ramsay.

I don't know much about him besides he had that one shady empolyee or whatever (could not hear the plot over the deafening sound of Hua Cheng's yearning) but I'm partial to a good manwhore character. The thought of people praying to him like "Hugh Mungus, who art in heaven-" really tickles me.

I know he's probably straight but I headcanon him as at the very least bi-curious because you can't be that hot with that much game and not use it for evil. (That evil being causing large scale gay awakenings among his soldiers.)

❓Pei Xiu❓

Unreliable, unimportant, unattractive, unemployed.

I remember not a singular thing about him besides fucking up Xie Lian's daughter's life and also being on my last nerve from the jump. If you're going to be evil at like least be memorable about it, you know? You can't be a bad person and a bad character at the same time. Pick a struggle.

I heard she committed some war crimes but honestly if I had to do an entire realm's tax returns by myself AND teach Pei Ming how to read (I refuse to believe that man is literate, just look at him) I would want to rage on occasion too. what a loaded question, anon i could write you an essay tbh. there are MANY scenes that i'm excited to write but especially to share, some of them who've been stuck in my brain for months. i don't want to spoil but it also brings me joy to torture you guys with the knowledge that ✨things✨ are going to happen. let me pull out my draft rolls out 5km long parchment soooo one of the first things i wrote on here was a scene that would contain this dialogue:

wondering if this is not the scene that birthed it all. not sure. but yes i'll let you ponder on that. mwah

aside from that, i'm excited to write pretty much everything, and take my time to build a proper dynamic for these two now that they're not being entirely dimwitted about each other. also super excited for the confrontations that are bound to happen wink lando wink charles

im soooo swamped up with life these days so I haven't been writing much (side eye at my wip and million of open docs) but I've toyed with the idea of james/kinglsey/regulus a lot, so I'm trying to get a little one shot of them in their forties being domestic and cute (because autumn vibes and seasonal depression makes me crave fluff), here's a tiny snippet :

A faint whine escapes James’ lips and Kingsely barely has time to react before James is crashing their lips together, gripping him by the back of his head to bring him impossibly closer. Kingsley goes willingly, lets their noses smash into each other uncomfortably. Remind them that they're here; they're alive, their love is. And it scorches—that need, just like a fire lighting them up and annihilating all those insecurities to ashes.

The taste of coffee bursts on his tongue, but more bitter, dirtier, metallic like blood. Because James is biting Kingsley's bottom lip, fissuring his body to slip inside, sucking and tugging on it as if it belongs to him. It does, god it does. And Kingsley chases that aroma in the back of his molars, licking it up like it's candy. But it's iron, the type that fuses them together, a mess of atoms colliding into a galaxy. Because it feels just as endless. Greater than life and death. Because it births stars behind his eyelids.

They're just so 😩🤌🏻 god I am so proud of them every day, blessing us once more. I am worried though about them as Jake, Hee and Won were all coughing and sniffly pretty bad throughout the whole live 🥺 cb's are some of the most stressful and tiring times for the idols with all the promotions, schedules and performances plus tours happening a little after that. I really hope they can get enough good rest in between and have stuff to help their poor coughs and colds, my poor boys 😥🧡

Garrick is right — Liam is down soooo bad for her. she’s just so soft and pretty and she smells so good… and she doesn’t care about his past / that he’s marked, she still treats him like normal (which is the bare minimum, but better than most people 🥺💗)

writing the boys teasing him was my favorite part. I wish we got more of them interacting in the books. when I came up with that line I had to stop and congratulate myself honestly lol. our boy is such a shameless ladies man. but Liam doesn’t want anyone talking about his girl like that 😠

and yes!! sweet boy deserves to be a little puppy baby and be cuddled and given head scratches!! and there’s something about a big strong guy being comfortable being soft and whiny with you… he feels so safe with her, ugh 🥺

it's been SOOOO HOTTTT here lately so here's a few thoughts:

cirrus "i never get sunburnt and if i do, it just turns into tan" ghoulette vs cumulus "i immediately get sunburnt after spending .3 seconds in direct sunlight even with sunscreen on"

cumulus and cirrus both doing a big chop in the summer to keep cool. they both end up with cute little bobs but cumulus' is thick and curly and cirrus has short straight across bangs with hers

both of them demanding that rain follow them outside so he can summon water under their feet with every step to make sure they don't burn their feet on the concrete. he's all UGHHHH FINE WHATEVER but he's secretly very happy to be included. and sometimes he'll spray one of them in the face just for giggles

cirrus and cumulus constantly raid the orchard and greenhouse during summer because there's always so many yummy treats growing in there. it's okay they always find a way to repay mountain........ 😇

SUMMER GHOULS!! It is winter here and I live in one of the more wintery parts of the world (though we're severely lacking in snow the temperature is making up for it) and I need summer ghouls right now!! God I love all of this so muchhhhh. Their hair cuts!? Both of them always barefoot. They're everything. Think about Cir and Lus in the peach orchard. Feeding each other peaches. Juice running down their fingers and arms (chased by tongues, of course). Mountain sends them out to harvest the summer fruits and veggies even though he knows they'll come back with red stained lips and only half the amount of raspberries they should have. But he doesn't mind--they love it. And how can he resist chasing the taste of strawberry on Cumulus' tongue when she grabs him by the antlers and pulls him down for a kiss? I bet Rain also helps sooth Lus' sunburn when she inevetiably gets ones. Laying cool hands on her overheated back. Rubbing aloe in as she lays shirtless on her bed, groaning with each pass of his talented fingers. Also don't get me started on ghouls with freckles. Cumulus with them all over her shoulders. Sunshine and Dew with them sprinkled over their noses. Rain and Cirrus counting the ones on Mountain's back. GUHH SUMMER GHOULSSSS.
