I work every other Saturday which means I am working today, my bday, but I actually love my Saturday shifts. The area is unusually lively due to the Saturday farmers market, the students and profs are lovely, and I get to work in a more comfortable environment than the office (sofa outside the classroom). Also, without any officemates around, I can work at my own pace, which means intense bursts of productivity followed by long periods of messing around. I feel bad about visibly not working when in the office, so I get very fidgety and stir-crazy by the end of the day.

an attempt at a gluten free version of these was a success! I used King Arthur measure-for-measure, and I think they turned out pretty great. not that I ever had the originals.

disclaimer: I cooked these for about five minutes longer than the directions say because at fifteen minutes the batter was still gooping up on one side of the pan when I tilted it. however, that was a bit much, and I'd opt for two or three minutes over time on the next try.

I also have absolutely zero baking experience! this is literally the second recipe I've ever tried for a baked good from scratch, and my first time baking without help! it's stupid easy and so tasty <3

Thank goodness I found one person who mentions who she is.

I don't watch TikTok, I watch YouTube Shorts, and that's where I discovered her stuff. She's Uyen Ninh on YouTube. I haven't watched any of their videos, just the occasional Youtube Short when it comes across my feed (main page or while lost in an endless, mindless YT Shorts scroll lmao).

And while I see that people in the reblogs are arguing or talking a little too seriously about why they think these different ways exist, I need to say that she's just having fun pointing out the difference between her and her Vietnamese family's ways vs how her German boyfriend was raised/does things. It's not more complicated.

Literally all her stuff (her Shorts at least) are comedic little vids about weird little differences between the two of them and her experience as a Vietnamese in Germany. And even better, while here you only see her, in other vids her boyfriend actually has been making more and more appearances more recently. (Not showing his face, although it's sometimes usually to a hilarious degree.) And they are ridiculously cute and funny.

Since I've already written a whole novel, I'll just leave you with a couple of good example/a more recent favorite of hers/theirs.
