Hey, Star Trek Writers... -taps the glass-
#star trek#the only people from Voyager's main cast I could see wanting to be a captain are Chakotay ??? maybe? and DEFINITELY Harry Kim#Harry Kim is the only guy on that ship who I'd actually cheer and scream and cry and click my heels if he became captain#bc it's actually something I think he'd be suited for AND it fits with his personality/goals...<3#like I saw a clip from Picard and like...Seven of NINE??? Why would she want to be a captain?? I think in that case 'making captain' is jus#shorthand for 'we finally accept you into structured society and you're no longer an outcast' which I do NOT like#also Tuvok's a captain???? Why???? Nothing about Tuvok screams captain material or that he'd even WANT to be a captain#I imagine him being chief of security or a professor (or both) until retiring - MAYBE a first officer#OH same with Janeway only she would HATE being an admiral and loves being captain#like next they're gonna tell me that B'Elanna Torres is a starfleet captain* - NO ! she is an ENGINEER!#Sorry I can't get over how bad Tuvok would be as a captain - he's not suited for it and does NOT seem interested#*so that we can all go 'oh yay I accept this as shorthand for the federation accepts her' - HEY#if the only thing you can think of to show that a character has achieved true happiness & respect & peace is becoming a 'respectable' rank#in the future pseudo not-military: maybe think about that more deeply

STAR TREK UPDATE TIME! last night we watched voy's "vis a vis" and ds9's "in the pale moonlight."
vis a vis (voy):
i really liked when tom paris didn't fuck b'elanna, but my goodwill is wearign thin. in a way he and b'elanna make a good couple bc theyre always both kind of shitty to everyone when they're struggling emotionally, i guess. sigh
like, aside from tom paris's emotional arc not being...clearly outlined at all in this episode, which made it confusing boring and difficult to care about, this episode ALSO makes b'elanna look bad. she's always yelling at him for """no reason""" and then she falls for a fake apology from a fake tom, and even kisses the fake tom, which is a kiss without consent on her part since she doesn't realize this guy isn't her boyfriend but a total stranger
in fact, most people seem incredibly stupid in this episode not to realize tom is faking it...seven even caught him red-handed trying to download tom's information and nobody put it together, not even tuvok
three points of merit for an otherwise boring dredge of an episode: 1. evil janeway hot 2. i figured out from looking that b'elanna's actress is really for real pregnant in this episode which explains last episode a bit 3. that one scene where the fake tom paris said to the emh that he just wasnt coming in because he felt his skills could never compare to the emh's skills which then prompted the emh to wax poetic about how great he was without realizing this was the most un-tom paris thing anyone had ever done. that was genuinely so funny and IC for the emh i was cracking up the entire time. would that the rest of the episode was that good
in the pale moonlight (ds9):
HOLY SHIT!!!!
SO I LIED
I CHEATED
I BRIBED MEN TO COVER THE CRIMES OF OTHER MEN
AND THE MOST DAMNING THING OF ALL
I THINK I CAN LIVE WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LIKE..........................
like i've seen the speech memed so many times i could quote it cold without ever having seen the ep and i more or less knew what was gonna happen but god DAMN the mark of a truly great episode is that none of that mattered...it still blew my fucking mind
obviously garak is incredible in this episode. his willingness to get his hands dirty and do what needs to be done for the greater good, the loss of his old favors and old friends that he takes with total equanimity
but the real star of this show is my best friend benjamin sisko. speech or not i had no idea he was gonna LOOK AT THE CAMERA. i felt like i couldn't blink when he did that shit. he's not supposed to look at me!!! he's making me complicit!!!
HIS DESPAIR AT THE WEEKLY CASUALITY LIST. THE PACING IN HIS QUARTERS AS HE DELIVERS THE PERSONAL LOG. HITTING GARAK (TWICE!). THE MONLOGUE AND THE TOAST AT THE END. GOD!!!!!!!!! he is so FUCKING talented he should have been a movie star. he should have been more famous than. think of the most famous person you know and triple it. he is SO fucking talented it's insane
and i mean in the end. romulus enters the war. damn. just like they wanted. and everyone will think it's because the dominion was gonna betray them and sisko and garak will take the truth to their fucking graves. jesus.
TONIGHT: voy's "the omega particle" (nobody fucking say it) and ds9's "his way," the summary of which looks...sketchy. potentially bad, even. fingers crossed i guess

I saw the absolute weirdest take in a comment on a JC video this morning, and I'm honestly still trying to process it.
They were against JC, which is fine, but they had about three things to say and one of them just threw me. Anyway ...
1. Janeway rejected Chakotay do he moved on.
- Okay, fine. Valid way of looking at it, even if I don't agree. Chakotay may have felt rejected, but I don't think Janeway actually rejected him. She just didn't think she could be with him on Voyager and didn't make that clear to him.
2. We're gonna come back to this one because it's bizarre.
3. Chakotay was better with Seven.
- Again, this is a valid opinion, even if I don't agree. It's just a matter of preference. (They did say it should have better written.)
Now back to number 2. Janeway was way too old for Chakotay.
- What????? What does this even mean??? Where did they get this??
I'm one of the few people who believes Janeway is older than Chakotay, and that's only by about a year. Everyone else seems to assume she's several years younger which makes sense because Mulgrew is younger than Beltran. They're practically the same age. How is she too old??
Then they say Chakotay and Seven is a better couple when this couple canonically has a nineteen year age gap*. How?? Do they think men should only date women who are at least a decade younger than them?
*Chakotay was born 2329 ("Endgame" on his tombstone). Seven was born 2348 ("The Gift", she was born Stardate 25479 which converts to 2348).

Voyager 'Demon' thoughts - in the episode Tom and Harry go to a Demon class planet and suddenly can't breathe the air on Voyager. And from a J/C shipper pov so far this episode is mum and dad are amused at their boys teasing, then dad goes to the planet to find them cuz they miss curfew and when he finally can call the ship again says to Janeway 'I think the doc is gonna want to look at Harry and Tom' and she joins him on alert, even rushing to the transporter room to be there when her family (because Seven also went down to the planet with Chakotay) are arriving. Then they're in sickbay with J & C hovering anxiously while the Doctor puts them in atmosphere.
Just feels like a peak parental Janeway and Chakotay episode thus far.
We even had B'Elanna being told she couldn't go, and her offering Seven instead for a 'cool head'.
#Star trek voyager#Janeway x chakotay#And their bridge kids#J/C are worried parents this episode#What do you MEAN our baby is sick?#And his older brother too?#Harry is J/C's child#They're so proud and amused when he stands up for himself at the beginning

Voyager rewatch s4 ep6: The Raven
A backstory episode for Seven, which I think helped to humanize her quite a bit. Even back in the day, when I was pretty prejudiced against her for replacing Kes, I still appreciated this episode for giving us some background and character insight for her.
The opening scene with Captain Janeway trying to teach Seven to sculpt in her Da Vinci holodeck program was pretty cute actually, until Seven has a vision of being chased by Borg and a raven.
Seven keeps having this same vision over and over, and the Doctor can't figure out why, so he shrugs and says he'll look into it. But he tells Seven that she's human enough to eat food again, and sends her to the mess hall to find Neelix.
Meanwhile, the Captain is negotiating with some aliens, the Bomar, for passge through their territory, which would take 3 months to go around. But they're pretty uptight and insist on Voyager taking a winding route to avoid all of their populated areas, which would take weeks or months, so idk why they even bother trying to go through Bomar space at that point, since it's gonna be more of a hassle, and take about the same amount of time. (Because plot, I guess!)
(Side note: I kind of hate the Bomar costumes. While the weird wire headgear was a cool idea, the primary colors made it look way too cartoony. I usually hate how grey and beige everything on Trek tends to be, but using primary colors is actually worse. The Starfleet crew already have the primary colors in their uniforms, so if you start having aliens in primary colored uniforms too, it starts to look like a children's show- we don't need to be reminded of the Wiggles of the Teletubbies when we're supposed to be having serious space drama. For such dour, paranoid aliens, the whimsical, silly colored patterns on their outfits didn't make sense, character-wise. The one time I think sticking to grey or beige would have helped, they didn't. Sigh.)
Meanwhile, back in the mess hall, Neelix whips up a plate of something for Seven, (while Seven tells him how the Borg assimilated some Talaxians, who made good drones, which incredibly creepy fact Neelix takes remarkably calmly) and then there's a rather adorable scene of Neelix teaching a skeptical Seven how to eat food, just like a parent teaching a toddler. But then Seven has another vision, and a Borg implant erupts on her hand, and she appears to be reverting to Borg again as she says 'you will be assimilated' and knocks Neelix down as she marches out of the mess hall.
We then have a sequence of Seven prowling through the ship with her Borg body shielding reactivated, so no one can stop her as she takes off with a shuttle to who knows where. There's a lot of odd camera angles that show her walking from every vantage point possible, and considering her insanely tight costume, it just has a kind of gross objectifying feeling- the shape of her body is on full display at every moment, it's all you can see, and it's like, why?? This moment is not about how hot she is- it's supposed to be tense because the audience and the characters don't know what's going on with her, and if she's going to become Borg again after all the progress she's made to be human. Seeing her strutting around in a high heels, a corset, and a catsuit that's so tight it has a divide between her butt cheeks is just like, really uncomfortably missing the point of her character, and actively sabotaging the storytelling. Corsets, high heels and tight clothes force you to move in a certain way, and it's not natural, and it's not something that someone who's never existed in a context where any kind of sexuality, much less the male gaze, existed, would choose to present themselves as. It's purely gratuitous sexualization for the male producers and directors, and jerky men in the audience, to leer over, and it takes me out of the story. All I can think about when I see it is how uncomfortable that must have been for her to wear, and how demeaning it must have been for Jeri Ryan to know that she was there to be hot, and that every inch of her body was being displayed and scrutinized all the damn time. She's an actor, not a stripper for crying out loud. Let her wear regular clothes!!!
But anyway, after she takes off in the shuttle, the Bomar finally leave, declaring that they'll track her down and destroy her shuttle for invading their space, so Voyager have to find her before they do. Tuvok and Tom take a shuttle so they can slip past the Bomar sensors to go find her. When they do, Tuvok beams over to Seven's shuttle to try to talk her down. She's convinced the Borg are calling her home, but Voyager hasn't detected any Borg ships, and Tuvok thinks something else is going on, especially when Seven very un-borgily says she will not assimilate him, and wants him to go back to tell Captain Janeway thank you for trying to help her. Seven has followed a Borg signal to a moon, where she and Tuvok beam down to find the source- a wrecked, partially assimilated Federation ship. Seven has flashbacks when she gets there- she recognizes it as her parents ship, where she was assimilated by the Borg as a child. Tuvok is a wonderfully calm, reassuring presence as Seven reverts to her childhood self while she relives her childhood trauma, and shows a more vulnerable human side than we've ever seen from her. He helps her refocus on the present, as the Bomar attack the ship, and it begins to collapse. They escape, Tom beams them up to the shuttle, and they go back to Voyager.
Back on the ship, Janeway finds Seven running her Da Vinci studio program on the holodeck, and contemplating what Janeway was telling her about the human need for imagination and creativity earlier. She's been imagining what her life might have been like if she hadn't been assimilated, if she had known her parents and been raised by them, which she'd never even thought of before, and which clearly raises disturbing questions she never considered before. Janeway encourages her to read about her parents in the Federation database, which Seven says she might do, in time. Janeway seems to consider this a positive step for Seven. Despite the trauma that Seven has unlocked with this experience, at least she can now begin to process it, and perhaps move closer to her humanity.
Overall, I appreciated the glimpse into Seven's past, and her human side, despite the extremely sad and traumatic subject matter, and the terrible costume choices distracting from and undercutting the story at every turn. Seven and Tuvok's interactions, particularly, were very well done, and I loved Tuvok's calm and nurturing prescence as an anchor to Seven in her confused state. Honestly I think Seven should have started some guided meditations with Tuvok, since she clearly has a lot of repressed trauma that this episode only revealed the tip of the iceberg on. While I actually think it would be impossible to come back to being human after being assimilated at such a young age, we have to go with the conceit that it's possible for the sake of the story, and I think they should have actually leaned into showing her confronting that trauma even more than they did, since in real life that sort of thing is a continuing process. At least they implied that it would be something she'd continue to work through, though I only remember there being one more episode that actually dealt with Seven's past after this.
Tl;dr: An interesting look at Seven's past, and a nice opportunity for Seven and Tuvok to have some great scenes together.

Do you have more thoughts on Star Trek: Aventine? I know your pinned post is older but I’m always so enchanted by it when I visit your blog
oh! thank you! it's still my pinned post cause I love it so much.
I do have a few more ideas, like Ezri having to visit her brothers again when something she's investigating leads back to them and I wanted to really go more into a deep dive with Trill and explore Ezri eventually getting rid of symbiosis commissions laws in some areas. I know Discovery goes into it with Adira but I want Ezri to feel something about the fact that she has to keep this secret that any Trill can be joined as shown with her. also she's vocal about that time she was a murderer, hey symbiosis commission remember when you fucked that up? And talk more about the other hosts, we know a little about some of them and a bunch more about others but my god am I curious.
I def wanted to do a thing where Harry and Ezri worked their way to Captain together on Geordi's ship and thus have this camaraderie but Ezri hadn't met Seven before she was assigned to her ship and is like 'wow you're so different than Harry's stories' 'Captain Kim has a tendency to embellish', I think Ezri would set up little things with her command crew for bonding but when it comes to her and Seven it's just complaining about having different voices in your head and coming to terms with it a) suddenly being gone for Seven and b) suddenly existing for Ezri. and when it came to Seven being there it's because the Borg had shown up in the Gamma Quadrant for unknown reasons. I don't wanna make them the big bads like in TNG and VOY but I wanted some throwbacks to them, just in here and there episodes. I think if I was gonna make a big bad it'd be that Odo's talks with the Changelings created a division down them (look I'm not immune to the Geth division from Mass Effect) and now some of them are wondering why they're still not controlling what they had.
I dunno if you ever read this comics called Divided We Fall but in it Ezri has this sudden need to find Lenara after she goes missing but then the comic just...doesn't do anything with that, like Ezri finds her but there's never a conversation we get to see and the plot moves on which is why I wanted to ignore that completely and go with an episode where Ezri runs into Lenara, I just thought Lenara now going through the pain of losing a Dax twice and knowing neither that she loved can ever come back and meanwhile here's the new one in front of her is just something so interesting.
also I wanted to have anything where Molly or Naomi was the central character have a thing where it's them writing messages to Jake/the O'Briens/Kirayoshi or Samantha/Janeway. and an episode where Naomi works with Seven and makes a joke about it being just like old times and the two of them still get together for Kadis-Kot, maybe they've somehow found a technology that lets them get a message out to Neelix or Naomi has been writing all these reports to her godfather to one day share everything with him because Naomi believes in seeing her whole family again one day. meanwhile Molly's much more used to station life/earth life and is having some trouble adapting to the ship and wondering if she's cut out for it, I wanted to give her some more depth but not go full Barclay anxiety levels. It'd also be nice to have Molly get an episode where Kirayoshi is in trouble somehow and Ezri shares her wisdom when it comes to having a sibling.
Worf absolutely shows up too and Ezri is a little too gleeful he's admitting to all the changes that needed to be done on Q'onoS. 'Jadzia would not do such a vindication celebration' 'Yes she would'.
I also had a vague idea of a flashback where Ezri meets with Deanna and Deanna is the one who inspires her to make the move to join command and then she runs into Deanna again and thanks her. I'm a sucker for mentor-to-Ezri!Deanna type deal.

Tuvok:
Ok, first off: real world standards, he's not normal passing. Apart from the ears, he's just too autistic (sorry, "Vulcan" 🙄) to be considered "normal looking". He went to 1990s earth once and Did Not Pass as normal. But in universe, he would on the surface seem like a model Vulcan. And he is, kinda. But he's also so gd weird. (/aff)
Not even gonna get into how badly he wants to be Will Graham because obviously that's there too but we don't have all day. Anyway.
Obvs the emotions struggle is real as it is for any Vulcan worth paying attention to, if only because they were all only ever written by humans.
But also, tangential to him being Will Graham coded (but still separate enough) he is a total mind slut. You know how some characters will go "when I have a problem, I set it on fire" or shit like that? When Tuvok has a problem, he mind melds with it. Homoerotically if it's an option. Dude even got a mind std one time, despite the fact that's not even a thing.
And then whatever the fuck kinda thing he has going on with Janeway. Not even necessarily in a shippy way ("not romantic, not platonic, so devoted the lines blur") but like... not only is he unreasonably loyal to her but he does shit like not only letting her touch him whenever she wants but *deliberately offering her HIS HAND to hold* to comfort her when she needs it (reminder that hand touching is very intimate to Vulcans and can be likened to human kissing) and again, they're never even stated as romantic or anything, they're just friends and yet he is more loyal to her than he is to his own code of ethics.
Obviously part of all of it could be because Janeway (or possibly Kate Mulgrew) is simply Like That, she does do shit like tell her platonic subordinate "then be a good rat and find us the cheese" in a tone that makes me lose it, but it's not all her, Tuvok is also extremely not normal about it. I should submit Janeway too actually, I'll do her next.
Also, afaik Tuvok is the only crew member of Voyager (who makes it back) who had a romantic partner before the ship got lost in the Delta quadrant and remained loyal the entire seven years they were lost. I *think* Samantha Wildman also did but she's a minor character (so she could've been getting it off screen) and she started out pregnant so once born Naomi both kept her busy and was a living reminder of her husband's love. So in that regard, Tuvok is very much not normal but like in the most positive way. He literally didn't cheat on his wife even when his life was in danger (they *were* out there for seven years so of course he hit pon farr eventually) and I think that's really cool of him. But also very not normal.
I'm very tired rn but once the polls come out, simply check out the blog of Bea @bumblingbabooshka (wanna clarify, I'm not him but he is THE Tuvok blogger in my opinion) who has written much on this already.
There's also the whole stuff that happened around his monestary era but I'm not even at that part yet but it must've been wild.
Anyway. Vote Tuvok
Janeway:
- will literally martyr herself at the drop of a hat
- will kill you if she thinks it's what she needs to do for her crew
- will not kill you if she thinks you've got residue humanity after decades as a borg drone even though realistically she really should've (tho ofc we're all glad she didn't)
- will violate your personal rights if she thinks you're not "human" enough and also compare you to a replicator (yes I'm still salty about that. wait what was the question? right, i'll get back on track)
- will say absolutely deranged shit like "then be a good rat and find us the cheese" in the a tone that makes me lose my mind and basically give everyone a crush on her (and also mommy issues) if they spend too long in her vicinity, leading to a very loyal crew
- her solution to having a crush on a fictional character was to delete his wife (very relatable but also very not normal)
- she wanted to watch hot Q on Q sex (possibly for scientific reasons) and looked very disappointed when it was severely underwhelming
- WHO brings a bathtub on a spaceship???
- there's more but y'know

oh fuck yeah harry kim meta for the win!! if it's alright, can you elaborate on harry being 'as starfleet as they come'? (maybe even comparing him to *picard's* idea of what starfleet is and should be? i think they're interesting individuals to put side by side.) thanks!
hell yeah i’m always down to talk meta! by “as starfleet as they come” i was mostly referring to him being the picture perfect model ensign type. you know, top of his class, did a ton of extracurriculars, someone who was happy and thriving within the system. a system i doubt he ever questioned pre-voyager, either. plus, he’s ambitious and has the skills to match. see: non sequitur, where in the alternate timeline he was less than a year out of the academy and already presenting the first update to starfleet’s shuttles in 50 years. it’s not a stretch to say he’d have worked his way up the ladder pretty quickly were he not trapped on voyager.
but of course starfleet is more than just academic performance or scientific knowledge. it’s about people, seeking out new life and learning from it, and harry’s a great example of someone who embodies that. he’s a character who doesn’t assume things about other people and does his best to meet them at their level. there are two scenes that illustrate this really well, the first is when he and tom are eating dinner and he wants to invite janeway to eat with them and tom thinks it’s a bad idea to which harry’s like well who else is she gonna eat with, and the second is when he expresses interest in seven and tom’s like ew wtf dude she’s a borg and harry retorts with well there’s a woman in there, too. in both cases you have someone making assumptions about someone else and harry pushing back on it by being like no they’re a person just like us and we should do our best to connect with them. see also warhead when harry’s like “we’re not transporting this mysterious ai device on board” and the doctor’s like “but it’s just like me 🥺” and that’s what convinces harry. harry might be an engineer by training but his real superpower lies in diplomacy.
contrast that with picard, who is also a very skilled diplomat, but the key difference is that picard is loyal to institutions and harry is loyal to people. harry’s out there pulling shit like staging a mutiny and violating the temporal prime directive just to save his friends. stuff that goes directly against every rule in starfleet’s book. picard could NEVER. he’s a needs of the many kinda guy whereas harry says fuck that everyone matters!! shit hits the fan and harry will always choose to help people over any perceived moral high ground or sense of duty. maybe if harry hadn’t been thrown into the psychological maelstrom of voyager he would’ve turned out more like picard but thank god he didn’t because let’s be real, he’s way more interesting of a character because he’s a little messed up and has some moral ambiguity to him.
i think picard’s vision of starfleet is very much one that exemplifies a lofty sense of enlightenment, of being the pinnacle of civilization. whereas harry’s is way more about actually helping people no matter who they are. see: picard’s reaction to members of the maquis vs. harry’s. picard gets all high and mighty and pissed about them betraying the federation while harry takes a step back and tries to find common ground. if picard were on voyager he probably would’ve been a lot more like lieutenant carey and bitched about the maquis instead of actually trying to work with. becoming best friends with one? again, picard could NEVER

Tuvok and Seven should have solved the Pon Farr together
Okay, yes, I realize that Tuvok is totally devoted to his wife, but think about it. His wife had to have had someone else to get through the Pon Farr too, right? Like a discreet neighbor or something. It's Vulcan. I mean, why wouldn't they have some sort of arrangement?
But clearly Tuvok hasn't thought of anything cause he's like, nah, I can just meditate this crap away which uh no dude, you cannot, how old are you anyway? Packing all that emotion, rage, etc. that Vulcans actually have in abundance rather than less of is gonna make anyone explode unless dealt with (which is also why Janeway and Chakotay would have exploded from the sexual tension by like season 4 at least.) So what can Tuvok do?
Using the Holodeck is a total copout, in my opinion. That's like saying all Vulcans have had to do this whole time when separated from their mates was keep a dirty magazine hidden under their mattress. I just don't think so. This is like his wife - you aren't gonna fool Tuvok with a picture of her, guy's been married for decades. He's got her down and you can bet he remembers every seven years' bonanza cause come on.
Here's where Seven comes in. Tuvok and Seven GET each other. They're stranded together with a bunch of overacting illogical beings that never listen to them and thus constantly run into trouble that could have been prevented had they just listened to Tuvok or Seven. They know this. Ultimately, they have to go along with everything, but that doesn't stop them being sarcastic as hell about it. I bet they got together for some tea every once in a while and spilled that tea like mad, making fun of the rest of Voyager until they'd snarked themselves senseless.
Another thing they have in common - the total practicality. Seven wants to experience everything, but she's not going to just fall in love with anybody (especially not somebody random but we won't get into that). No, if Harry had gone along with her it would have been a one nighter, and she'd have left like "That will be all, Harry". Which would have hurt Harry but -
Not Tuvok. No, this would be perfect for him. He'd get the necessities out of the way, and she'd get her experience, and then they'd just walk away and never, ever mention it to themselves or anyone else and been completely fine with it. Just carried on their friendship as usual.
I realize this was network T.V., blah blah (though look at what they DID get away with, just think about it) but I think it'd be absolutely perfect. Tuvok & Seven besties till the end.
They would never, ever tell and the thought is so awesome.
Alternate solution: Tuvok could have killed Neelix. You know he wanted to do it. Look how happy he was to murder him in the Holodeck! And all he'd get would be confinement to his quarters where he could be alone and do science projects. No problem!
Tuvok's thinking about it RIGHT NOW.
You're welcome, Voyager writers.

Star Trek Prodigy 1x06: 'Kobayashi'
Where to Watch: Paramount+
Spoilers: YES!
Reactions/Commentary Below The Cut
Janeway was in the Delta Quadrant again? Damn. I mean, I know it's Holo!Janeway, but still.
----
Oh god, please tell me Merf is oh the holodeck!
Oh good!
Haha Dracula!
Oh dude, you ain't gonna pass this test.
----
THE TNG ENTERPRISE?!
UHURA!
IS THAT ACTUALLY GATES?!
ODO?!
SPOCK?!
Ok, where's someone from Archer's crew?
Omg, I think they're using prior clips of Nichelle and Leonard. Omg, Rene too. Or the best impressionists out there. Or AI tech? Oh definitely clips, there was a big difference between two parts Spock said right next to each other. (Check IMDb and yup, archive sound. And James Doohan will be in it too!)
----
Oh this is set 5 years after Voyager in the ST universe. Even less sense that her hair is this style, but I guess it works better for animation purposes? Easier? Or maybe it was by request from someone?
"if you're going to go poking around in my head, I'll need some coffee first" thank GOD this show stuck to her love of coffee.
----
Oh that's a very Beverly line.
Wait, so are they remembering between tries?
WORF?! That looks like Worf, his ridges....
Ok, so some of Nichelle's voice is definitely done by someone very different. What the fuck?
Scotty 🥺
----
God I love Murf (apparently that's the right spelling).
Gwyn gets words wrong. I can't remember if this is a thing actually polygots do or not. Where's that post...?
----
Is, is he really going to solve it via insanity??? Oh, nope. Oh that's right, it's not a KM if it's solvable.
The vocal qualites are definitely off for the archive sound, but I really appreciate the tribute.
----
I would say he passed by not really giving up.
----
Chakotay! As racist of character as he was,.still really cool to see him.
Oh that must have been so weird to have your former Captain be your new hologram.
Also, I really want to know what happened between Seven and Chakotay.

For the WIP game, I have questions about all of them! If I *have* to narrow it down to one, though, I'm gonna go with '5 times pike.' There are so many ways that one could go! (Also, I saw 'janeway naps on the beach' and my immediate thought was that 'good for her' meme 😂)
omg you would pick the one I have the least written for to ask about 😂
5 times pike's actual title is Five Times Captain Pike Accidentally Avoided His Fate and the One Time He Didn't (original, right?). I'm still trying to figure out how the multiverse is going to work so I don't even really have anything more to share, unfortunately.
However I do have a little something for Janeway naps on the beach, which you can find below 😊
ask me about my wip game
It was unseasonably cool that day. Not enough for the weather net to flag the temp and correct it, but enough that the sand was warm and the Gulf almost uncomfortably cold. Chakotay waded in from the open water, rubbing his hand back and forth across his head to fling the water from the regulation short strands, and gratefully accepted a towel and a cold drink from Gretchen Janeway.
"How's the tournament going?" he asked as he draped the towel across his shoulders. He gulped down the water as he turned to observe the beach volleyball game in progress a few meters down the beach from where Gretchen had set up her beach towel and chair.
"The Parises are up by one, but Annika hasn't served yet," Gretchen said.
Surprised, Chakotay turned back. "I though the agreement was for her to play on the Paris team since Hannes plays professionally."
"That was before Phoebe saw Julia's serve."
He watched as Julia Paris made a running dive to save an expertly spiked ball from Seven, allowing B'Elanna a chance to tip it over the net and trigger another few minutes of volleying. They were playing 3v3, Phoebe, her husband Hannes, and Seven against Julia, B'Elanna, and Tom. Several of the Paris and Janeway cousins gathered around the sidelines, cheering as control of the ball returned to the Janeways. Seven delivered a devastating serve to the Parises.
"And now they're tied again."
Chakotay turned back to look at Gretchen and saw that she hadn't even looked up from her PADD, and he smiled at the familiar amused but distracted look on her face. "Working vacation for you as well?" he asked.
"Quantum mechanics finals wait for no one," she said, making a few slashing marks with a stylus before looking up. "You didn't think Kathryn got all of her bad working habits from her father just because he was the admiral and I'm the professor, did you?"
Chakotay chuckled and said, "Even if I had been under that impression, it would have been corrected the moment I watched you two debating the nature of the Q as you polished off a carafe of coffee at 2300 last night." He turned his gaze back to the game and frowned. "Speaking of, where is Kathryn? Did she get called back to headquarters with Admiral Paris?"
"Oh, no. She's got the baby in the shade over yonder," Gretchen said, turning in her chair and pointing to the tree line behind her.
He followed her gaze until he found the erstwhile captain. She was stretched out on a lounging beach chair, carefully shaded by both the towering palm trees and an over-sized umbrella. Sunglasses obscured her eyes, but he could tell from the tilt of her head and the utter relaxation of her body that was out cold. A teenager sat next to her idly perusing a paper publication, also making notes on a PADD. "Don't any of you Janeways know how to take a vacation?" he teased.
"Hmm? Oh, that's Rebecca, Phoebe's eldest. She burns in the sun just like Kathryn." Gretchen's face softened as she watched her daughter sleep. "I haven't seen Katie sleep this much in a very long time," she said, softly.
"Spirits know I've done my fair share of napping since our return as well," he said, keeping his voice deliberately light. "In fact, a nap in the shade doesn't sound too bad. I think I'll join them."
"Mm," Gretchen said aloud, but he heard the other ten things she left unsaid. "You were a good first officer, Mr. Chakotay. I'm glad Kathryn had you to rely on our there. But this is your vacation, too. You are allowed to stand down your watch."
She didn't mean it in a bad way, he knew. "Mrs. Janeway, there's nowhere else I would rather be than right here, right now, in this moment." He pointed to the shade. "Except for maybe right there."

okay it's star trek update time. saturday we watched voy's "demon" and "one" and last night we did voy's "hope and fear" and ds9's "tears of the prophets."
demon (voy):
this one was so fun. i kept yelling THE GOOP IS ODO and it wasn't ofc but it was fun to imagine
a y class planet...i feel like we only ever see m class...this was very exciting
always exciting when they break out the space suits too
the ship landing is so silly and ridiculous. only slightly less ridiculous than the saucer splitting from tng
for a few minutes there i thought we were gonna have the tom paris/harry kim version of 2.25 resolutions. like because they could only breathe the planet's air. really really really funny
i love that the solution was to just let them clone everybody. imagine after voyager leaves and you can choose any crewman and all the little slimes want tuvok so you just have a bunch of tuvok slimes running around. 10/10
one (voy):
MY GIRL SEVEN....................
this one was soooososososo good
first of all, wtf at chakotay like talking to janeway about her bond with seven...that was gay as hell
i loved also she and the doctor eventually getting tired of each other. their scenes are so funny because they're both really autistic but in different directions
i love also when she gets put through the fire and succeeds...there is nothing she can't do. she really ran that whole ship on her own WHILE HALUCINATING i'm so proud of her
how clever to kind of leave it up in the air whether or not that guy was real, also. i went back and forth on it a few times and finally landed on not real only second before the reveal
her dream about being alone in the snowy tundra...damn. she like hates other people but also hates being alone. what a way to be
hope and fear (voy):
i had to physically pause this one multiple times to collect myself re: janeway/seven
the holodeck game. the argument where they both hit below the belt. the bit in the brig where they reference the first thing that happened in the brig and janeway had to touch seven's little eye thingy in the soft mood lighting wwwwow
i think the ethical dilemma here was a little silly though. like, my guy, you were banking on the ruthless guys who were stronger than the borg and also wanted to eat everyone else for lunch on helping YOU? like everybody say thanks janeway for getting rid of something even worse than the borg! not fuck you janeway for not letting the borg get killed by them
idk. i don't see that she did anything too awful. she sent them back home and saved them from the borg and saved the borg from them and then also got her people thru borg space AND got a gf out of it. leave her alone
i did like all the stuff about intuition vs borg knowledge though...janeway and her intuition remind me of kirk, but janeway and seven both fighting in the brig and then making up in the brig (complete with the touching) is very spones bread and circuses of them.
tears of the prophets (ds9):
man, sorry to say this, but...this script sucked bad. i dont think avery brooks is capable of phoning it in but we probability saw him get pretty close here. that final monologue, which should have ben about dax and was instead about the prophets, was poorly written
and dax's last words being about a baby - come on.
and kira and odo's argument - he is not so stupid he would do this without expecting her to be mad
and the scene between dukat and damar...where was the tension?? crazy dukat great but he's been better
even the thing with quark and bashir moping around in the holodeck because of dax was bad on paper
like, all of these things were saved (well, some of them were saved) by admirable performances from a charming and talented cast, but whew! like, julian looked so sad this became funny. kira and odo kissing to make up was so charming i forgave the premise
but dax's death was a bad death and her final arc being about a FUCKING baby was really sexist. sisko leaving not sure if he is coming back bc of some prophet thing right when bajor needs him most seems ooc. and his monologue to dax not being ABOUT. DAX. was a crime. poor terry farrell.
overall s6 has been great so far aside from a couple of bumps but man did it end on a sour note. i have heard season 7 is divisive so i guess we will see!!
TONIGHT: ds9's "image in the sand" and "shadows and symbols."

trekathon update!
marauders (ent) thanks to @jonathanarcher
this is the first time i’ve cracked open my enterprise blu-rays and the title menu is....... a lot to take in. i borrowed some screencaps from trekcore but i promise you, still images do not do this chaos justice.
everyone is VERY attractive and dusty in this episode, thank you boost.
trip just leaves the enterprise schematics with a kid on a colony frequented by klingons. the nx-01 crew has no stranger danger whatsoever. they’re just toddling wide-eyed around the shallow end of the quadrant, walking up to white vans to ask if they have candy.
["gravity"; "bliss"; "bride of chaotica"; "night terrors" below the readmore]
gravity (voy) thanks to @jonathanarcher
passion punk teen tuvok is my life.
i love how this is a Tuvok Is Vulcan episode without Vulcans Are Secretly Murder Machines. the vulcan master is great, and it's all very respectful to the vulcan way -- showing both the burden and benefit of it.
in a situation where tom and tuvok are trapped together for eternity, which one do you feel worse for? the real question.
“we might need to use you as a battery” like...... i’m not one to wave a hologram rights sign in the town square, but come on dude
bliss (voy) thanks to the play all feature
so much about this episode gives me joy. space captain ahab. naomi and seven are friends. casual references to how much tuvok loves his family.
also the "the whole crew is brainwashed and turns on one crewmember" is terrifying as shit whenever it happens, and this is no exception.
this creature is intelligent enough to falsify sensor records and computer logs and forge letters from home in ASTONISHING detail, what more does an ancient alien intelligence have to do to warrant a hail or something?
i think we're meant to assume that the alien-generated letters from home actually exist (and aren't just hallucinations from the crew) since seven -- who's mostly unaffected -- receives one and the sensor logs seem to be real, and i think that's gonna be pretty weird for the crew to have their secret hopes and dreams written out in text form after realizing it's all a fake. "mark's engagement was broken off" when last we heard he was already married indicates that that the hopes and dreams might not be fully grounded in reality, which would make it even weirder.
bride of chaotica (voy) thanks to @al-the-grammar-geek
the single more disturbing reveal in this episode is that you can watch holoprograms from the outside
and i REALLY hope they were all watching on the bridge while janeway larped her heart out. they were busy trying doing Ship Things, but can we get a little picture in picture thing on the viewscreen?
i ADORE that the soundtrack is really playing on the holodeck. of course it is! why wouldn't holoprograms have soundtracks? we should assume that going forward for any episode scoring that happens during holodeck scenes.
seven’s “starfleet’s first encounter with planet x” joke is clear evidence that our girl does have a surprisingly well-researched sense of humor and the rest of the crew just aren't ready for it.
casting my vote for that briefing room scene as best voyager scene of all time
night terrors (tng) thanks to @bevfank
the clarity of the enterprise in the tng blu-rays makes me FEEL THINGS
can we get the sound mixer on this an emmy because i get full-body chills EVERY time the “eyes in the dark... one moon... circles...” scenes. you know what i mean!!
i’m thinking about the o’briens, and how many fights of theirs are used to show that Something Is Wrong (plot-wise), but it's like... "they're newlyweds, so that should be enough for the audience to infer that they're full on in love whenever plot isn't happening" isn't enough! give me something!! i'm really committed to loving the o'briens but i feel like i'm doing all the work here.

All the numbers ending in 2 for the weird asks 😄
Urk, this took me waaaaaay longer than anticipated to answer (read: I thought I'd answered it already 🙈). Thank you so much for this ask!
2. chocolate bars or lollipops? - Chocolate bars. XD
12. name of your favorite playlist? - I think it's just called "Favourites". I use the favourite function on the Samsung music player app thing and it all goes into one playlist. Of the ones I've named, either, "A Bit Before My Time" for anything released before my birthday in 87, or "Siarad Iaith y Nefoedd" for anything sung in Welsh.
22. role model? - Amanda Tapping.
32. top five favorite vines? - Never got into Vine, but I do like, "Let's do the fork in the garbage disposal" and, "I am the sand guardian, guardian of the sand".
42. jacket pockets or pants pockets? - Pants Trouser pockets if they're big enough to hold my phone. If not, then I use the jacket.
52. favorite font? - Calibri for typing, Scriptina for swirly whirls.
62. seven characters you relate to? - Ack! This is hard! Uhm… Xander Harris, Abby Corrigan, Sam Carter when she's leader of the Atlantis expedition (it's the eye rolls), Dave Lister, Arnold Rimmer, Kathryn Janeway when she's stressed, Sanctuary's Nikola Tesla.
72. worst subject? - Welsh, both language and literature. Oh. And PE.
82. pc or console? - Console!
92. lamps, overhead lights, sunlight or fairy lights? - Omfg, fairy lights 1000000%. I love them so much, they're so pretty. If I ever move into a house with a dado rail I'm gonna run a bunch of fairy lights along it so I get pretty lights all year round. (My sister got me a set of fairy lights hidden in decorative faux roses a few years back. They're still in their box waiting for me because I don't want to ruin them by putting them somewhere I don't like.)(I know, not very logical but that's my brain for ya.)
#ask meme answered#ask meme answer#coffee-is-below-my-standards#weird asks#seriously thank you for the ask! :)
