okay i'll say it: percy being "different" because sally taught him the myths before he knew he was a demigod is an unnecessary change. percy was never "different" because he knew the myths and thus came into the mythology world knowing how fucked up everything is. he's different because he has a strong sense of loyalty (fatal flaw). he's different because his mum loved him and he learned love and compassion and kindness from her. he's different because when the time comes, he will choose to be the demigod of the prophecy. he's different because despite the life he's had he's a good kid. he's different because he will not give respect that hasn't been earned, even if it gets him into trouble. he's not different for knowing the gods are a fucked up family and that sometimes a monster is not a monster. he's not different for not wanting kleos. in fact i think it's much more impactful if he gets to that conclusion himself, if he sees it and he comes out kinder and choosing not to continue the cycle on the other side.

also they should have let annabeth say the exposition. not just because she's the "smart one" even though she is, but because she was raised in the world of the gods since she was seven and she would absolutely have biases percy could challenge with his own choices.

unlike her, it's not great!

Excerpt from what is currently Chapter 32 in my drafts (titled: You're Doing Your Best, Just Makin' it Run)

He can hardly reach out, he can hardly even get to her through his own bars, but Leon fights against the chains and the cuffs wrapped about his hands just to offer something, any comfort he can muster. She yelps, trying to curl away when somebody steps over to fiddle with something above them and out of sight.

“N-no-!”

“Ashley- hey! Hey, look at me! Look at me.” Leon starts, pull her away from the panicked gasps, even if she just starts to cry all the more as she looks around. Her eyes are wild, all over the place, but finally she looks at him.

Leon speaks without thinking.

“It’s gonna be okay.” He almost babbles it, with it muffled behind the oxygen mask, the muzzle, the plane engine, the boots shuffling about to do something to put them back to sleep. It’s agony to watch the way her pale face goes clammy, how her eyes are already red rimmed,  “I know it’s scary, but we’re gonna be okay. Okay? We’ll be out before you know it, ‘kay bud?”

“‘Kay.” She sobs, and she doesn’t believe him. Oxygen mask fogging up, her tears roll down her face as she sags against the bars, face pressed there as she shakes, her claws curl around his hand as he holds her. The image of it is so stark- Leon remembers her pale fingers gripping onto his back in El Pueblo, he remembers her screaming. He remembers how she’d clung onto him for dear life, like she had when she’d fallen in that house and started seizing, like she had when she’d woken.

Like she does now.

Like every kid who’s ever relied on him, ever.

Leon almost chokes it out as he ducks to press his forehead against the bars beside hers, huddled in the tiny space he has to move.

“It’s gonna be okay. We’re gonna be okay.”

And god, if he doesn’t want to believe it for her sake.

“-o-okay… okay- okay, okay.”

“Okay.”

the kid totally. learned a bunch of bad words from denji and power, the two of them probably actually tried to teach them bad words on purpose because they think it's hilarious. aki is taking them to daycare one day and they just pout and grumble, "this is bullshit" and aki is like????? where did you learn that???

thank you anon! like i really feel this so hard because like i know we often can't help caring what other people think and can't help feeling like we need to overexplain ourselves for a myriad of reasons, some of them being that social media culture has bred such an environment of like constantly performing and being scrutinized and scrutinizing others to see who is saying exactly the right thing in exactly the right way, and it's like, of course it's always important to be aware and thoughtful about what we say and how we conduct ourselves, but really sometime the black and white mentality goes too far, and learning how to distance yourself and care less about what others think is honestly so vital to enjoying your internet experience and feeling free

and when it comes to the phandom and talking about dnp's relationship specifically, i think a lot of people (mostly outside of tumblr, i feel like most of us here Get It) are still stuck deep in that ~2012-2016 mindset. and like i get that era did a number on a lot of us, but dnp themselves have moved on, and we're allowed to move on too. like so many people on here have already said, it's perfectly natural to think dnp are in a relationship because, lbrh, they've made it pretty much as clear as they can make it without outright saying it. dnp are very aware of how we as a fandom operate and think and know that right now, they're existing in a space where they can be just short of being explicit about their relationship, such that those who actively keep up with their content Know What's Up, but it's not enough for any tabloid site to pick up and run an article on and get the public spotlight trained on them again. given that, i think it's fair for us to pick up what they put down, and anyone in the year 2024 jumping down people's throats for saying they're together just looks silly, and it's time that everyone who still cares about what those people say to just stop caring
