the lily-carol sibling murder plot is unironically more compelling than the actual carol-ivy-lola plot we got lmao. i wonder how lily would have gotten away with killing carol, was it just covered up? did she get off on a technicality? does ivy keep working with lola to seek vengeance, or does she decide to assume her identity full-time in want of a family, like she did in season 5? how does serena react to finding out her mom killed her own sister?? so many possibilities lmao
oooh, okay, so we're doing this, huh? well, i'll try my best. and if any of my followers/ anons with galaxy brains more galactic than mine wanna add or pitch in, PLEASE do!
so, van der woodsen women, you know. queens of concealment or whatever. we KNOW in canon that lily & cece specially are very "must protect the family name." i bet cece would find a way around it, assuming cece knows. it's very possible that cece knows and is like, whatever, because cece honestly loves her grandchildren 5000x more than she loves her daughters KLHFDKLGH.
alternately (& more likely) - lily kills carol, and then goes, fuck, what did i do!!! and she goes to rufus. nobody loves lily the way rufus does - and she knows this. he's engaged to alison, the last thing he needs is his ex (who he never quite got over) showing up at his place in complete disarray. but hey, is that blood under her fingernails? also her hair has never looked this awful in all the time he's known her. so:
"lil, what's going on? yeah, i can spare a minute. shit, okay, stay calm. if they don't find the body, they can't incriminate you. we'll find a way to fix this, okay? what's the murder weapon? i'll help you hide it. don't panic. come on. deep breaths. okay, let's go."
fast forward to now.
ivy dickens is shady, morally grey and lonely, and she immediately befriends lola rhodes, because lola doesn't take her shit. "oh, your family didn't love you? at least you had a family," lola tells her, smiling pleasantly while her eyes are stone cold. and ivy is like, holy shit, this woman.... anyway, they become best friends and then girlfriends. but ivy just can't get over it. "it's impossible that you don't have a family," she says. "now that you're 18, can't you find information about them?"
so they do that. at some point, organically, they bump into nate archibald, at the library. he hates reading, but because he's a himbo, has somehow become the ceo of a NEWS OUTLET of all things. this is their shot, so lola pretends to be ivy, finds a way to seduce nate against the bookshelves (not very difficult) while the real ivy just goes "okay, that's hot."
anyway, they use nate for information. once things fall into place, lola realises that she doesn't actually want to do confrontation, because it's just Too Much. her girlfriend goes, "hey, what if i pretend to be you?" and voila! charlie arc, babey.
lily freaks the fuck out when she sees "charlie" because she knows what's going to happen. lola meanwhile is busy building her case and... ends up genuinely becoming friends with nate. "if you're unhappy here, why don't you just leave?" she asks him at some point. he frowns, wondering what he's doing at a news outlet.
"what about the spectator?" nate asks.
"didn't you have writer and journalist friends?" lola asks.
nate immediately thinks of vanessa. calls her, and goes, "hey, how would you like to be the CEO of a news outlet? i ended up here and i hate it." and vanessa's like, "how do these things happen to you nate! but i don't wanna be a ceo, im a freelancer. i have friends and colleagues who might be up to task though, i'll give you a reference list and you can interview them or something." so he hands over the spectator to someone who actually knows what theyâre doing.
meanwhile, ivy ("charlie") gets close to dan and serena. and then, at a coordinated time, she introduces them to lola. lola and ivy fess up to dan, serena and nate about their scheme and why they did it. dan and serena lose their shit over rufly, as expected ("my mom killed her sister??" / "my dad helped her get away with it??" ) - remember, both dan and serena are elder siblings, and fiercely protective of their little sibs at that. this is GENUINELY unforgiveable to them. they confront rufus and lily. van der humphrey drama unfolds.
im rolling with the "cece doesn't know what happened" arc here, because it makes more sense. she thought her daughter just ... ran away and abandoned her kid. she did not know that carol was actually dead. however, when ivy and lola show up, they both befriend her, and eventually tell her the truth. cece supports them, and BOTH ivy and lola get something they never expected - a sense of family. cece is like a grandmother to BOTH of them. when she dies almost Everything she owns goes entirely to ivy and lola. lily doesn't get a penny. serena and eric get a part of it, as expected, but not as much as ivy & lola. dan, also, surprisingly, gets things from her - things that used to belong to her late husband, vintage books, because even in death, cece is a derena shipper. anyway!
dan & serena don't know what to do about their parents being completely different people from who they thought they were, or how to break this news to their siblings. i imagine finding this information out would bring them closer together, and honestly, just following the general pattern of dan and serena behaviour, i feel like they'd begin dating again, or something along those lines.
ivy & lola spend the money they've gotten to travel, to go somewhere else. they're both actresses, after all. having trust funds means they can relax while they're at it.
nate..... i don't know what he's doing. but he's one step closer to happiness than he was before.
#gg rewrite#anon#im not a fan of the derena arc here but it feels like what they would do#dan and serena use each other as coping mechanisms all the time#for less traumatising/terrible situations. so this really could only go like this#this is actually a really fascinating arc.......... huh#we're really collaboratively making magic on here

Unfinished Business Chapter Two
Hi.
Remember when I said this was gonna be a short prequel? One chapter, two tops?
Yeah. Apparently I lied.
There's gonna be a third chapter: a Luke chapter đ This chapter is all Reggie, so I hope you guys enjoy!
I do have a few warnings: - the chapter definitely earns an M-rating for (implied) sexual acts and language - there is a scene depicting homophobic language and parents being shitty - Reggie has a panic attack and stops breathing for a second before the boys calm him down.
Exercise caution where needed, darlings.
Much, much love, Annaelle
PS Eternal thanks to my darling Juulna, who still doesn't know what's going on with these himbos, but continued beta'ing for me anyway. đ I'm nothing without you, darling.
PART TWO -- REGGIE (MARCH 1994 - MAY 1994)
EARLY MARCH 1994
âIs there something going on between you and Alex?â
Reggieâs head snapped up and he stared at Bobby, who looked back with an unreadable expression. They stood, waiting in line at the nearest pizzeria, and Reggie hadnât expected anyone to pick up on the minor tension between him and Alex, and if anyone would, he certainly hadnât expected it to be Bobby.
âNo,â he squeaked, and then cleared his throat. âNo. We justâŚâ
He shook his head and started again, trying to come up with a believable lie. âItâs stupid,â he said, âWeâve just been spending a lot of time together, what with Luke⌠occupied.â The mere implication of Lukeâs most recent infatuation with a girl heâd met in detention left a bad taste in his mouth, but⌠well, it wasnât exactly a lie, was it?
He and Alex had been spending a lot of time together, even after Reggie had confessed his feelings towards their other best friendâtowards Alexâs ex-boyfriendâbut things were different now.
Alex hadnât really been as open with Reggie since heâd confessed how he felt, had been notably more tense around Reggie, despite promising that there was nothing that would push him away, and Reggie didnât know how to bridge this new gap in their friendship. It wasnât like he could just stop loving Lukeâif that was an option, he wouldâve taken it in a heartbeatâso he didnât know what to do.
âWe just had a stupid disagreement,â he continued, smiling lightly at Bobby. âItâs fine, weâll work it out.â
Bobby looked away for a second, and he looked conflicted, confused, before he said, âYouâd tell me if you guys wereâŚâ he sighed and added, âif you guys were⌠more, right? I mean, you know I donât care who you date, right?â
Reggie stared. Heâd thought he and Alex had been sneaky, all this time, but if Bobby had picked up on it, then obviously they hadnât been so very good at it.
âWeâre not,â he denied quickly. âJust a stupid argument. Iâll talk to him, promise. It wonât affect the band.â
âThatâs notââ Bobby began, but then it was their turn to order pizza and the conversation was, mercifully, dropped. Reggie kept up a steady stream of inane chatter as they waited for their pizzas and as they walked back to the studio, desperate to keep Bobbyâs mind off of him and Alexâor worse, him and Alex and Lukeâand as soon as they walked in, let himself be dragged off by Luke, who wanted to show him the chorus for their newest song âright now, Reggie, come onâ.
It was easy to let himself be sucked into Lukeâs orbit, to imagine that Luke was smiling at him because he felt the same way, to ignore the weird way Alex looked at him now, and the idea that Bobby could see right through him. âThis is great,â Luke crowed happily when Reggie suggested a different pace for the chorus of his new song, slinging an arm around his shoulder. âThanks, Reg.â
Reggie, who was doing his level best to not burst into flames at the casual affectionate contact, squeaked, âNo problem,â and then fled to the couch, where Alex and Bobby had already started on the pizza. He snatched two slices of whatever pizza was nearest and stuffed as much of it in his mouth as he could fit.
Luke, thankfully, didnât seem to think this was out of character at all and just laughed, setting down his guitar before he joined Reggie and the others on the couch.
âSo,â Bobby said once theyâd finished off the pizzas. âI saw Clare from Coconut Teaszer yesterday. Sheâs gonna talk to her friend at Juvee and Circus Disco, see if she can call in a favor to get us a gig there.â He grinned and continued, âShe said if we can get those and they go well, Teaszerâs manager might be willing to give us a regular gigâwe could save up for a professional demo, finally.â
âSweet!â Luke exclaimed, leaning halfway across Alex to bump his fist against Bobbyâs.
âBobby, thatâs awesome,â Reggie grinned, patting his shoulder, and he could tell Bobby was preening a little under all the attention. âHowâd you convince her? I thought she didnât like our sound.â
âI can be persuasive,â Bobby smirked, self-satisfied, and Reggie wrinkled his nose a little. It wasnât that he didnât approve of a little flirting to get ahead here and thereâtheyâd all done it at some pointâbut somehow he didnât think flirting was what Bobby was implying.
âOh, gross, Bobby,â Alex whined, falling back against the cushions. âAre we stooping that low, really?â
âHey, I donât see anyone else getting us an opportunity like this,â Bobby said defensively.
âGuys, guys,â Luke cut in before Alex could snap back and turn it into an argument. âIt doesnât matter, okay? All that matters is that this is a great opportunity for us, for the band. This could be the springboard that we need to jump into the big leagues.â
âYeah,â Reggie nodded enthusiastically, because he didnât want Alex and Bobby to start fighting, and Luke was rightâit didnât matter.
Alex didnât say anything, but he frowned and crossed his arms over his chest, and Bobby very pointedly looked away from him, and no amount of chatter from either him or Luke could save the night. It was only a few minutes later that Bobby told them he had to work the next day and left, leaving Alex, Reggie and Luke sitting in awkward silence.
âI wanna hang out, guys, but Iâm supposed to be meeting Charlie later,â Luke finally said awkwardly, rubbing his hands together, looking at both him and Alex with a pleading expression.
âYeah,â Alex said curtly. âFine. Go ahead.â
âJesus,â Luke turned and frowned at Alex. âWhat crawled up your butt and died?â
âNothing,â Alex snorted. âIâm totally fine with Bobby sleeping his way to the top and you cancelling band practice last minute so you can go make out with your newest girlfriend and pretending itâs all fine.â He finished with a sneer.
âAlex,â Reggie whispered, but Luke had already jumped to his feet and was stalking towards the door.
âFine,â he spat angrily. âFine, be like that.â He grabbed his jacket and backpack up off the floor and slammed the garage door shut behind him.
Reggie sat, stunned, for a few minutes before he turned to Alex. âWhat the hell, man?â
Alex heaved a sigh and shut his eyes, leaning his head back against the couch. âDonât, Reggie.â
He sounded exhausted.
âWhatâs going on?â Reggie asked, scooting closer to Alex and carefully reaching out to put a hand on his arm. âYouâve been⌠off for weeks. Since I told you aboutââ
âItâs not that. Not everything is about you,â Alex snapped, and Reggie reared back in surprise.
Alex never snapped at him. He sassed and teased and he was sarcastic as hell, but he never snapped. Reggie must not have realized just how strained things had become between them and he felt like an idiot for it.
âIâm sorry,â he said hoarsely, scooting away again, looking away from Alex. âI just wanted to help.â
Alex swore under his breath, and Reggie winced a little. He didnât do great with people being angry around him, and even though he knew Alex would never even dream of hurting him, knowing he was angry made Reggie feel nervous and twitchy and he didnât like feeling that way around Alex.
âReg,â Alex said, softer, and Reggie instinctively flinched away when Alexâs hand fell on his shoulder. Alex pulled away as though his hand had been burned, staring at Reggie with wide, startled eyes. âShit,â he swore again, âIâm sorry, Reg, I didnâtâI didnât mean to snap at you.â He exhaled roughly and shook his head. âMy parents have been⌠pushy lately. About conversion therapy, getting a girlfriend, going to college⌠Itâs been a lot, and IâI took it out on you guys. On you.â
He lifted his head and smiled weakly. âIâm so sorry, Reg. I didnât mean to make you think it was you.â
Reggie wanted to just accept that, wanted to smile at Alex and tell him it was okay, but instead, the words that came out of his mouth were, âI thought you hated me. For⌠for what I said about my feelings for Luke.â He sounded more upset than he had meant to, and Alex made a soft, concerned sound.
This time when Alex reached out, Reggie didnât flinch away, but the tension didnât leave him until Alex folded him up in his arms, pressing his face into Reggieâs hair. âIâm sorry,â Alex muttered. âIâm so, so sorry. I donât care that you fell in love with him too. I donât wanna argue with you. I truly am sorry.â
Reggie exhaled shakily and wrapped his arms around Alexâs middle, leaning into him.
âItâs okay,â he conceded. âIâm okay. I justâŚâ He swallowed thickly, ducked and pressed his nose in the crook of Alexâs neck. âI thought I screwed everything up.â
âNo,â Alex whispered. âNo, you didnât.â
Reggie nodded against him. âAre we okay?â
âYeah,â Alex huffed, his breath ruffling Reggieâs hair. âYeah, Reg, weâre okay.â
-------------
LATE MARCH 1994
Reggie didnât like drinking.
He didnât.
The only time his dad ever raised a hand at him was when heâd been drinking, and Reggie had made a promise to himself to never get tempted, but then Bobby had shown up to practice with a bag full of liquor that heâd taken from his parentsâ liquor cabinet, complete with a grin, and both Alex and Luke had been so enthusiastic that Reggie hadnât wanted to be a downer.
Alex had babysat Maggie for him like four times this week and Luke had been super stressed about getting bigger gigs, his parents pressuring him about college and his girlfriend, who didnât like how much time he spent with them. Even Bobbyâs parents had been on his case non-stop about getting into a good university and not wasting his potential on their band.
They probably needed a drink and Reggie wasnât going to be the one to keep them from it.
Heâd only had one drink himself, and itâd made him feel all warm and just a little fuzzy, and if that was what drinking was, he wouldnât mind. After theyâd all reached an appropriate level of inebriationâReggie had no idea what that level was, but the other boys all seemed to agree that three drinks was it for themâBobby walked Luke home, and Reggie watched them laugh and giggle as they walked away.
Alex stood behind him when he turned, cheeks flushed pink and his pupils slightly dilated. âWalk you home?â he asked, holding out his hand and grinning, chewing on his lower lip. And Reggie was very stupidly in love with his other best friend, but heâd always been a little sweet on Alex too, andâ
WellâŚ
He knew that Alex smiled when he was kissed, that he liked to be held when he fell asleep and that he giggled when Reggie scraped his teeth over his earlobe.
He was in love with Luke, but this thing he had with Alex was also real.
âYeah, okay,â Reggie chuckled, his insides going warm and squiggly when Alex honest to God giggled as he looped his arm through Reggieâs. They set off for the short walk to Reggieâs house, swaying lightly across the sidewalk as they walked.
âYou know,â Alex said, slinging his arm around Reggieâs shoulder and drawing him closer. âMaggie asked me to marry her yesterday.â
âWhat?â Reggie exclaimed, laughing lightly, though he didnât resist when Alex pulled him closer again.
âYeah,â Alex laughed. âI had to explain that I didnât like girls. Although I promised that if I ever changed my mind, sheâd be the first girl Iâd tell and give a chance.â
Reggie laughed. âIâm sure she was thrilled with that.â
âEh,â Alex hedged. âSheâll get over it.â He tugged them to a stop and leaned in to press a lingering kiss to Reggieâs cheek. âI think I prefer her brother anyway.â Reggie swallowed thickly, and turned his head just a little, their noses brushing together.
âGood,â he whispered, brushing his lips across Alexâs in a barely-there kiss.
Alex swayed after him when he pulled away, eyes still shut, and God, Reggie loved him. Not like he loved Lukeânot with the same breathless longing that he felt when he looked at Luke, not with the same burning desire that threatened to consume him when Luke smiled at himâbut it was love nonetheless.
Alexâs eyes fluttered open again and he smiled, wide and happy, pressing his palm to Reggieâs cheek. Reggie kind of melted into the touch, swaying back towards Alex despite being in the middle of the sidewalk, only a few feet from his house, where just about anyone could see them. âI know youâre in love with Luke,â Alex said quietly, and he was so close that Reggie could feel his breath on his lips. âBut Iâm going to kiss you anyway.â
âOh,â Reggie breathed, leaning in to rest his forehead against Alexâs. âOkay. Yes. Please.â
Alex chuckled lightly and leaned in to press their lips together, running his hands down the length of Reggieâs back. Reggie shuddered and kissed him back, pressing into Alexâs embrace as much as he could, relishing in the easy comfort of Alexâs touch. âI donât wanna stop,â he admitted in a rush when Alex broke the kiss, slipping his arms around Alexâs shoulders. âI know I love Luke, and I donât know if thatâs going away anytime soon, butâŚâ
âYeah,â Alex whispered, leaning in to press a flurry of small, soft kisses to Reggieâs cheeks, nose, and lips. âI get it. I donât wanna stop either.â Reggie leaned into the kisses, allowing Alex to soothe the frantic energy within him, slanting their lips together again as soon as Alex tried to lean back, shivering a little when Alex slipped hisâcoldâhands up under his shirt.
âYou know,â Reggie chuckled when Alex leaned back to gulp a few breaths, âMy house is right up there. With my bedroom. Iâve got a bed and everything.â
âYeah,â Alex grinned. âYou gonna invite me in?â
Reggie smirked and bit his lower lip. âI think I might.â
-----------
Reggie smirked when Alex shoved him down onto his bed and unceremoniously plopped down on his lap, wiggling enticingly on top of him, pressing his palms against Reggieâs shoulders and grinning cheekily at him. Reggie barked a laugh and let Alex push him down until he rested on his back on the bed, fingers trailing down Alexâs torso until they came to rest on his hips.
âTipsy you is handsy,â he chuckled, grinning up at Alex in delight.
âShut up,â Alex laughed quietly, pressing his thumb to Reggieâs jaw to tilt his head up for a kiss, moving back a little on his thighs when Reggie moved to sit up again. âJust canât keep my hands off of youâyouâre too sexy.â
Reggie triedâtried so hardânot to blush at Alexâs words, but he could feel his cheeks heat up nonetheless, lips parting as he tried to figure out a way to say something smooth in response to that. âYou canât say stuff like that,â he whined, dropping his head forward to rest against Alexâs collar bone, and wrapping his arms around Alexâs waist.
âAw, but you blush so pretty when I do,â Alex teased him playfully, poking at the ticklish spot just below his ribs that no one but Alexâand maybe Maggieâknew about, and Reggie yelped.
âAlex!â he exclaimed, jerking away from Alexâs questing fingers as much as he could with the other boy still perched on his lap and determined to make him produce the sound again.
âShhh, be quiet, Reggie,â Alex laughed triumphantly, âWe canât wake up your mom and your sister.â And Reggie couldnâtâhe couldnât do anything other than writhe with laughter beneath him, falling back onto the bed in a desperately futile attempt to escape Alexâs relentless quest to make him laugh.
âStop, stop,â he gasped breathlessly, tears of mirth rolling down his cheeks as he struggled to catch his breath between chuckles. âI give. You win.â
âGood,â Alex smirked, settling himself on top of Reggie with an elbow on each side of his head, and Reggie had to focus to keep his entire train of thought from becoming derailed by the feel of Alexâs body pressed along his own. âNow be quiet and let me decide if I wanna kiss you again.â
Reggie hummed contentedly and tilted his head up, pushing his lower lip out into a pout until Alex relented and leaned down to press a kiss to his lips. Reggie grinned against Alexâs lips and dug his fingers into Alexâs hairâhe was probably going to get it cut soon, it was longer than Reggie had ever seen him wear it before, and Reggie was going to take advantage of the longer coupe for as long as he damn well couldâto drag him closer, licking up into Alexâs mouth as the other boy moaned against his lips.
The triumphant feeling only lasted for a second though, because it didnât take long for Alex to get with the program enthusiastically, and Reggie thought it was entirely unfair that Alex knew to scrape his teeth against Reggieâs lower lip like that, the way that made him shiver all over and melt into a puddle beneath Alexâs steady weight.
âAlex,â he whined when the kiss broke, both of them gasping for air, Reggieâs fingersâthe ones that werenât locked in Alexâs hairâgrabbing uselessly at the jean jacket that Alex was still wearing.
âYeah, Reg,â Alex breathed harshly, grinding down and sending red-hot arousal rushing through Reggieâs veins. âI know, sweetheart,â Alex whispered against his lips, and Reggieâs brainâkind ofâshorted outâ
âOh,â Reggie choked, slipping his hand down to dig his fingers into the meat of Alexâs ass. âThatâs new.â
âYeah,â Alex chuckled lightly. âWant me to stop?â
âNo, dear God, donât you dare stop,â Reggie groaned as Alex sat up, entranced by the graceful way Alex moved to get his jean jacket off and tossed aside, swiftly followed by his shirt, the light coming in through the window glinting on the gold chain around his neck.
âWouldnât dream of it,â Alex quipped cheekily, but before Reggie could say anything snarky in reply, Alex was on him again, and Reggie would say something, but Alexâs tongue was in his mouth and he was pretty sure he forgot how to thinkâmuch less talkâaltogether when Alexâs chest rumbled with a moan against his fingers, his tongue sweeping against the back of Reggieâs teeth.
He keened when Alexâs fingers tugged on his hair, shooting sparks of pleasure down his spine, dragging his head to the side and breaking their kiss to mouth his way down Reggieâs jaw and neck.
He paid particular attention to the little spot just beneath Reggieâs jaw that had him practically melting into a puddle beneath Alex, the sensation of Alexâs lips against his feverishly hot skin and the solidness of Alexâs body pressing into him, surrounding him almost too muchâbut also not nearly enough.
âYouâre beingââ He gasped as Alex scraped his teeth across his earlobe, fingers digging into Alexâs biceps. ââyouâre being really unfair.â
Alex laughed huskily against him, and Reggie shivered but pressed back into the touch when Alexâs hand slipped down from where his fingers were tangled in Reggieâs hair to cradle the back of his head. âItâs not unfair unless I donât finish what I started. Donât worry.â He shifted, pushing one leg between Reggieâs and pushing up, dragging his teeth across Reggieâs bottom lip teasingly. âI plan on following through, sweetheart.â Â
Reggie moaned, clutching at Alex as the other boy pushed his legs open to settle himself between them, lips occupying Reggieâs in a downright filthy kiss. Reggie couldnât bring himself to care about the noise and the possibility of his parents finding them anymore, because Alex was between his legs, pressing up against him, and he could barely remember how to breathe.
God, Reggie adored him.
He groaned against Alexâs lips when the other boy rolled his hips down, slipped one leg up and around Alexâs hip, and slid his hands down to the edge of Alexâs waistband and then up, marveling at the fact that he could feel Alexâs warm skin beneath his palms and could feel the twitch of Alexâs muscles as he dragged his blunt nails across Alexâs back.
âIâm not done with us,â Alex panted when the kiss broke, teeth scraping across Reggieâs collar bone before he soothed over the abused skin with his tongue as he ground himself against Reggieâs painful hard-on. âI donât care that you love Luke. Iâm not done with us.â
âMe either,â Reggie croaked, feeling unexpectedly overwhelmed when he realised that he was with Alex, that Alex wanted this, him, too.
Still.
Even after Reggie had told him about his feelings for Luke.
Even though they werenât actually in love.
Even though he didnât think either of them actually had any idea what they were doing together.
âMe either,â he repeated, before pulling Alex down to kiss him again, grinding up against him. âIâm not done with us either.â
---------------
Reggie woke the next morning when he felt something flutter lightly across his forehead, then his nose, his lips, his chin, his collarbones, blinking in confusion before he realized it was Alex, gently tracing his fingers across Reggieâs face and upper body. He stilled for a second, and Alex froze before Reggie relaxed and leaned into Alexâs touch.
âHi,â he whispered hoarsely when he rolled his head to the side to look at Alex.
He wondered, when Alex remained quiet and unreadable for a long, tense few minutes, if last night had been a mistake. Theyâd crossed a line they hadnât crossed before, that theyâd never meant to cross when they first kissed, and though Reggie had been so sure that they were on the same page, that Alex knew that Reggie cared about him so much, he was a little worried that maybe Alex had been more drunk than heâd let on last night.
And then Alex exhaled shakily and slid his hand down, coming to rest on Reggieâs bare waist. âHey,â he finally said, sounding quite sleepy still, offering a tight smile when Reggie shuffled a little closer.
âYou okay?â Reggie said quietly, reaching out to pat his hand on Alexâs bicep.
âYeah,â Alex nodded. âYeah, justâŚâ He looked down and smiled wryly. âTrying to figure this out, I guess.â Reggie swallowed thickly, eyeing Alex nervouslyâhe didnât look like he regretted much of what theyâd done and said the previous night, but then Alex always had the best poker face out of all of them.
âIt wasnât bad, right?â Reggie asked quietly, looking away from Alex, because he wasnât sure he wanted to see the potential rejection on Alexâs face, not after Reggie had dared to hope that maybe⌠maybe he and Alex could figure out what they could be together.
âNo,â Alex whispered, and Reggieâs head snapped back up to look at him.
Alex was smiling softly, expression open and fond. âYou scare me sometimes,â Alex admitted. âBecause I think⌠I think itâd be so easy to just get caught up in this. In us.â He swallowed thickly and ran his fingers through Reggieâs messy hair, and Reggieâs eyes fluttered shut for a second. Alex chuckled quietly and added, âI donât want us both to end up with a broken heart, Reg.â
âI donât ever wanna break your heart,â Reggie said urgently, pressing his hand to Alexâs cheek.
Alex smiled sadly. âI donât want to break yours.â
âThen we just wonât,â Reggie said optimistically. âWe can just⌠we can just try. And if itâs not working anymore, weâll just be honest about it.â He looked at Alex pleadingly, rubbing his thumb across Alexâs cheek. âCanât we just try?â
Alex huffed a breath through his nose, tipping forward to rest his forehead against Reggieâs with a small smile. âYeah, okay, Reg. We can try. Does that mean weâre telling Luke and Bobby too?â
Reggie froze.
âIââ he choked. âIs it okay if Iâm not ready for that?â
Alex nodded lightly. âYeah, Reg, thatâs okay. But,â he continued thoughtfully, âWe canât just keep lying indefinitely.â He ran his hand down the length of Reggieâs back and Reggie shivered a little as the move dislodged the sheet and exposed his bare skin to the cold morning air.
âI donât want that either,â Reggie said. âI donât like keeping things from Luke either.â
âSo youâre going to tell him how you feel?â Alex asked.
âNo, not yet,â Reggie shook his head. âBut⌠maybe. When I feel less like Iâll break when I say something and he doesnât feel the same way.â
Alexâs eyes darkened a little and his lips turned down into a frown, but he nodded in understanding.
âOn a happier note,â Reggie said brightly, pressing into Alex with his entire body, âI am much less sore than I was last time.â He grinned when Alexâs cheeks flushed immediately and his hand tightened on Reggieâs bare hip. âMust mean we did something right this time,â Reggie finished.
âOh, yeah, itâs gotta,â Alex snorted, but when Reggie leaned in to kiss him, he kissed back slowly and deeply. Reggie let Alex nudge him back until he was flat on his back again, Alex leaning over him, one hand on his hip, Reggieâs fingers tangled in Alexâs hair.
His lips were incredibly soft and still tasted faintly of the cherry liquor heâd drank last night. Reggie sighed happily against Alexâs lips and sank into the kiss, sliding his leg up over Alexâs to pull him closer. The feeling of fabric startled him though, and he leaned back to pout at Alex. âWhen did you put on pants?â He reconsidered and then said, âWhy did you put on pants?â
Alex chuckled and whispered, âI didnât wanna run to the bathroom naked. What if Iâd run into your parents?â He grimaced and added, âOr worse, Maggie.â
Reggie snorted a laugh and nodded. âOkay, fair enough.â
Alex grinned down at him and pressed one more kiss against Reggieâs lips before he tapped at Reggieâs hip. âCome on, put something on. Everyoneâs going to be up soon.â Reggie pouted and then smiled when Alex groaned, before he gave in and kissed Reggie again.
Reggie smiled when Alex pulled away, and he inhaled deeply, taking a second to, you know, remember how his limbs worked before he managed to roll out of the bed and onto his feet. He grabbed the nearest pair of sweatpants and tank top and shimmied them on, spinning around with his arms spread wide to grin at Alex.
âBetter?â he asked teasingly.
âNo,â Alex smirked, leaning back on his hands, blatantly eyeing Reggie up and down, and Reggie could feel Alexâs eyes burning on his skin. âI preferred you with less clothing.â
âYou told me to put something on,â Reggie pointed out, raising both eyebrows at Alex.
Alex grinned and pushed to his feet, approaching Reggie with a kind of predatory gleam in his eye that Reggie had never seen before and thatâthat did things to his insides. âJesus, Alex,â he groaned, âDonât look at me like that.â
âWhy not?â Alex asked playfully, reaching out and tugging Reggie to him by his hips.
âIt makes me wanna do really inappropriate things,â Reggie admitted, framing Alexâs face in his hands when Alex wrapped his arms around Reggieâs waist. Alex just raised an eyebrow at him, and really, that was a challenge if Reggie ever saw oneâhe never could resist a dare. Alex huffed a mildly surprised breath against his lips when Reggie crashed their lips together again, but Reggie could tell he was smiling too.
And then Reggieâs bedroom door swung open.
They jerked apart, eyes wide and slightly horrified, but the damage was done, and Reggieâs dad stood in the doorway, large and imposing and frozen in shock. Â
âDad,â Reggie choked.
It was like the sound of Reggieâs voice unfroze his father, his pale cheeks flushing with anger and his entire face twisting into a nearly unrecognizable, furious expression that Reggie instinctively flinched away from. âWhat the fuck do you think youâre doing, boy?!â he hissed dangerously, and Reggie knew that tone, knew that when his dad spoke like that, it was time to hide in his room and to make sure Maggie was asleep or wearing earphones.
But Alex was right behind him and his dad was blocking the door and there was nowhere to hide.
âDad,â he tried, and he hated how small and weak his voice sounded, how scared. âIt wasnâtââ
âHow dare you do this to our family?!â his dad roared, and Reggie flinched back, bumping into Alex, who steadied him with his hands on Reggieâs upper arms. That, evidently, was the wrong thing to do, because Reggieâs dad stormed forward and ripped Alex bodily away from him, shoving him so hard that Alex nearly tripped over the various items of clothing theyâd carelessly thrown around the room last night, barely able to catch himself on the side of the bed.
âYou,â his dad hissed, and Reggie watched in horror as his father loomed over Alex. âYouâre so lucky your parents are prominent members of the church. They will hear about this and I will make sure that they know you defiled my boy.â
âHe didnâtââ Reggie tried, âDad, Iâmâitâs notââ
âThis isnât about you,â his dad screamed at him, and Reggie recoiled again. âDo you think youâre ready for this kind of lifestyle, boy? Do you think anyone will want to employ you? Do you think theyâll employ me and your mother? All of our trouble will be on you! What do you think theyâll call your sister if they know about you, you stupid boy? Sheâs gonna lose her friendsâparents wonât let their kids play with her now, this is gonna follow her forever!â
Reggie winced and hunched in on himselfâwas he being selfish? Heâd never⌠heâd never considered that what he did might have ill effects on his familyâon Maggie.
âThis is more than just you,â his dad spat disgustedly. âThis affects us all, you spoiled, selfish, ungrateful little faggot!â He glared at Reggie and Alex both and then hissed, âGet out. Get your stuff and get the fuck outâand donât you dare come back. You have five minutes to get out. Donât you darken our doorway again.â
He shot one more venomous glare at them and then stomped out of the room, slamming the door so hard it rattled in the frame.
Reggie let out a shaky breath he hadnât known he was holding, staring at the door. He didnât even realize he was breathing erratically until Alex pressed a hand to the center of his back and said, urgently, âReg, calm down. We have to pack your things, okay, really fast. We can freak out later, but I need you to focus right now. Please, Reg.â
Reggieâs eyes fastened on the red mark on Alexâs arm. âHe hurt you,â he whispered hoarsely, reaching out trembling fingers to touch Alexâs arm. âAlex, he hurt you.â
âNo,â Alex sighed, âNo, Reg, Iâm okay, I promise. Itâs probably not even going to bruise.â He took Reggieâs hand and squeezed it. âGrab a bag, okay? Put your clothes in there, as many of them as you can fit. Iâll get your school things and your guitar.â
âAlex,â Reggie choked when Alex tried to pull away, and Alex exhaled sharply before ducking down and pressing a hard, brief kiss to Reggieâs lips.
âWeâre okay,â he insisted. âNow get your things, okay? Can you do that for me?â
Reggie nodded shakily.
âGood,â Alex smiled shakily. âGood.â He pressed one more kiss to Reggieâs forehead and then pulled away, leaving Reggie swaying in place, cold and disoriented for a couple of seconds before he managed to do as Alex asked and got a bag, pulling open his closet and stuffing as many clothes in there as he could.
When the bag was full, stuffed with jeans, socks, t-shirts and underwear, Reggie turned to Alex, who had Reggieâs bass slung over one shoulder and his bag with school books and materials over the other.
âCome on,â Alex said quietly, holding out a hand. âLetâs go.â
Reggie stared at him for a beat and then, slowly, feeling like he was making an irreversible decision, took it, and let Alex lead him out of the house.
-----------
Later, Reggie couldnât remember much of the walk to Lukeâs house.
He knew that Alex, at some point, had moved the book bag he was carrying to his other shoulder and had wrapped an arm around Reggie, tugging him close, and that Reggie had sunk into the warmth of him eagerly, because he was dressed in sweatpants and a tank top and flip flops, and Alex wasnât even wearing a shirt, just an unzipped hoodie he mustâve shrugged on as they were leaving, and it was still cold outside.
He knew that he had, at one point, tried to talk, but that his mouth just didnât want to form the words.
Alex had understood anyway.
He knew that heâd suddenly found himself on Lukeâs front porch, Alexâs arm still around him, when Mrs. Patterson opened the door in her bathrobe, looking confused and then horrified to find them standing there in their pyjamas, bags in hand and tears still burning in Reggieâs eyes.
She had ushered them inside immediately, and Reggie knew that she was asking them things, that Alex was answering, but he felt like his head was under water and all sound was muffled.
He let himself be led to the couch and relinquished his death grip on his bag when Alex pried his fingers open, and when he looked up he could see Alexâs lips moving, could tell that he was talking to him, that Alex was probably scared and confused and hurt too, but he couldnâtâ
He couldnât breathe.
What was he supposed to do now?
He couldnât go home anymore. He couldnât go home. He was barely eighteen, he hadnât even graduated yetâSunset Curve was nowhere near successful enough to support him.
What was he going to do?
And then someoneâs warm palm was burning on his cheek and when Reggie looked up, Luke was right in front of him, Â brow furrowed in concern, Alex hovering anxiously just behind him andâandâ
âHey. Hey, Reggie. Look at me.â Luke was talking, and though he still sounded like he was miles away, his voice managed to penetrate the haze of static white noise that encapsulated Reggieâs entire world. Luke smiled when Reggie looked at him, and Reggie vaguely thought that if he could still breathe, that smile would probably take his breath away all over again. âYeah,â Luke grinned. âOkay, hey, buddy. Take a deep breath for me, okay? Youâre not breathing right, Reg.â
Reggie thought that was probably a bit of an exaggeration, because he was pretty sure he wasnât breathing at all, so how could he not be breathing right?
âReggie,â Alex pleaded, rushing forward to kneel in front of him, next to Luke, his voice piercing through the white noise as his hand landed heavily on Reggieâs knee. âBreathe.â Reggie obeyed before he thought about it, inhaling sharply, dizzy with the sudden rush of oxygen, and swayed in place for a single heartbeat before he tipped forward into Luke and Alex.
They both caught him, as he had known, instinctively, that they would, their arms wrapping around him and holding him steady, and Reggie broke.
He burst into tears, pressing his face into the crook of Alexâs neck, fingers clenched in the back of Lukeâs shirt too, to keep him close, where Reggie could feel him and hear him and smell him, because he couldnât bear the thought of either of the boys being any less close than this, being anywhere other than right here with him, warm hands rubbing soothingly over his back and their voices melting together in a wordless, reassuring murmur.
âWeâve got you,â he heard Luke mutter as his hand swept up and down Reggieâs back. âWeâre here, Reg.â
Reggie had no idea how long he cried, but slowly, his tears tapered off, and his body relaxed in his best friendsâ arms, and he kind of drifted into a light doze. He barely registered being moved back onto the couch, refusing to loosen his grip on Alex, who didnât stop running his fingers through Reggieâs hair.
âWhat happened?â he heard Luke ask quietly, rubbing his thumb over Reggieâs ankle soothingly.
Alexâs chest rumbled a little under his cheek, but it was soothing, and Reggie kept his eyes closed, relaxing into them as much as he could. âI stayed over,â Alex said softly. âIâd had a little too much, yesterday, and I didnât want to walk all the way home, so I stayed. His dadâs always been a little weird around me, but I guess when he walked in and saw us hugging, he lost it. Called Reggie a fag andâŚâ He paused and Reggie was just aware enough to press into him a little more, to move to comfort even though he wasnât even looking at Alex. â... It was awful, Luke. Heâs probably gonna tell me parents God knows what too, butââ
âShit,â Reggie heard Luke curse. âShit, Alex, Iâm sorry.â
âNothing we can do now,â Alex muttered. âBesides I think Reg got the worst of it, not me. My parents already knew I was an incurable homosexual, in their words. This probably wonât change much for me, butâŚâ Reggie hummed under his breath when Alex tugged very lightly on his hair. âHe canât go home.â
âYeah,â Luke whispered. âWeâll figure something out. My dadâs driving over to talk to Reggieâs dad, to see if he can pack up his stuff, at least.â
Alex exhaled shakily. âWell, thatâs something.â
They fell silent, and Reggie relaxed further into them, the steady beat of Alexâs heart under his ear lulling him deeper and deeper into a doze until he eventually managed to fall asleep.
He was with Alex and Luke. He was safe.
Theyâd figure everything out.

MAY 1994 (SATURDAY)
There was something different in the way Alex kissed him, these days.
It was like⌠like his heart wasnât in it anymore, like he was just going along with whatever Reggie wanted, and Reggie hated it. Alex was distant, was pulling away from him, and Reggie didnât know what had triggered it, what had changed to make Alex go from desperately affectionate in the wake of Reggieâs dad kicking them out, to⌠to this.
Before, whenever Reggie would look at him, Alex would catch his eye and grin back at him or wink at him; would smile the same kind of smile that he smiled right before heâd lean in to kiss him, and Reggie would have to look away so he wouldnât have to explain to Luke or Bobby why he was blushing.
Now, whenever Reggie managed to catch Alexâs eye, Alex would wince and look away or pointedly gaze at Luke or Bobby instead, and ReggieâŚ
Reggie would feel like an idiot.
They barely spent any time alone together anymore, and Alex hadnât managed more than a perfunctory peck on the lips unless Reggie reached out for him first; heâd hardly made any sort of move towards Reggie at all.
He wondered, as he curled up on the little bed theyâd put together in the loft, if Alex had just grown tired of him, of them, or if heâd decided he couldnât deal with Reggie not being over Luke yet, or if heâd just decided that they werenât working anymore.
Reggie shivered.
He didnât want Alex to break things off so soon after theyâd decided they wanted to give things a real shot. He didnât know how theyâd gone from an easy, effortless relationship that theyâd kind of tumbled into, to this⌠this strained connection that felt like it was seconds away from shattering if Reggie pushed too hard, too fast.
He missed the simplicity of their relationship before, missed how sure heâd been that if he reached out for Alex, that heâd find Alex reaching out for him too. Missed kissing Alex and making out with him and having sex and sleeping togetherâ
He missed Alex.
And that was ridiculous, because Alex was right here; he hadnât stopped spending time with him and the others, but the simple intimacy Reggie had gotten used to had vanished as if overnight, and he was afraid that heâd done something to make Alex pull away.
He heaved a sigh and let himself topple backwards into the pillows and sheets, staring up at the ceiling blankly. The band, thankfully, was doing really greatâtheyâd gotten bigger gigs, and even a few specifically advertised as Sunset Curve that had a turnout they hadnât quite expected, and itâd helped Reggie keep his mind off of Alex (and Luke).
Most of the time anyway.
Heâd gotten really good at keeping his mind off Luke, made easier by Luke hooking up with every pretty girlâand the occasional guyâthat fluttered their eyelashes at him, but heâd been so focused on Alex for so long that he didnât know what to do with himself now that Alex wasnât there.
âHey man.â
Reggie startled and nearly rolled off the loft, eyes wide as he looked at Luke, whoâd just appeared atop the ladder. âJesus,â he groaned, heaving himself back to the middle of the bed. âWarn a guy, Luke.â
Luke snorted a laugh and crawled onto the bed too, kicking off his shoes and wedging himself into the narrow space beside Reggie, pressing their sides together. âDidnât feel like going home,â he explained, nudging his shoulder against Reggieâs. âAnd I feel like you and I havenât spent time together in ages.â
They really hadnât.
Reggie had made sure of it because he couldnât act normal around him. He kept getting lost in Lukeâs eyes, kept catching himself staring at Lukeâs lips while his best friend was talking, gravitating towards him even when he was trying not toâ
He didnât want Luke to pull away from him too, just because Reggie couldnât keep himself in check.
âI guess we havenât,â Reggie admitted quietly. âWeâve both probably been busy.â
Luke winced a little and Reggie turned his head to look at him quizzically. Luke frowned and said, âYeah, Iâm sorry, Iâveââ He heaved a sigh and shrugged. âMy momâs been putting a lot of pressure on me about college, and I just wanna focus on the band now that weâre actually getting somewhere, and itâsâitâs been a lot.â He smiled at Reggie and Reggieâs heart did some kind of funny flop in his chest.
âRight,â Reggie choked. âThat sucks, man. Iâm sorry.â
âYeah, well,â Luke sighed. âSheâs not gonna let go and neither am I, soâŚâ
Reggie bumped their shoulders together and offered Luke a sad little smile. âStill sucks.â He wished there was something else he could say, a way he could make this easier for Luke and his mom, but he knew that this was something theyâd have to work out themselves too.
This had been brewing for years, ever since theyâd started the band.
Luke sighed and rolled onto his side, tucking himself close to Reggie, his nose pressed against Reggieâs neck and his arm slung around his waist, and Reggie was terrified that Luke would hear the way his heart was racing, terrified heâd realize Reggie was holding himself just a little too stiffly even as he folded his arms around Luke in return.
âYou cool if I crash with you?â Luke muttered against Reggieâs skin, and Reggie shivered.
âYeah,â he squeaked, ignoring the little flutter in the pit of his stomach at the thought of getting to spend at least eight hours pressed up against Luke like this. âYeah, anytime.â
Luke hummed happily, and Reggie smiled stupidly up at the ceiling, relishing in the soft weight of Lukeâs body as he leaned against him. Before he could second guess himself, he leaned down and pressed a kiss to the top of Lukeâs head, slipping his arm around Lukeâs shoulders, waiting for Luke to start talking again because heâd known him long enough to know Luke wasnât done yet.
âShe just doesnât get it,â Luke muttered, splaying his fingers out on Reggieâs chest, absent-mindedly rubbing the fabric of Reggieâs shirt between his fingers. âShe still thinks this is just⌠just⌠a hobby. A teenage obsession that Iâm gonna grow out of.â Reggie swallowed thickly when Luke accidentally rubbed his fingers over Reggieâs nipple, which hardened immediately beneath the innocent touch, and briefly lost track of what Luke was telling him.
â...just so focused on college, and building a regular career and she doesnât get that I donât want that, and I hate that she doesnât get it, sheâs my mom, I love her, and I want her to understandââ He broke off with a barely muffled sob and buried his face against Reggieâs throat again, and all Reggie could really do was hold him and hope that Luke knew Reggie wasnât going anywhere.
âItâll be okay,â he whispered against the top of Lukeâs head, rubbing his hands over Lukeâs back and arms. âYou two are gonna work this out, I know it.â
Luke was quiet for a while after that, and Reggie almost thought heâd fallen asleep when Luke whispered, âShe hates everyone I date too. I canât do anything right anymore. She hates the band, she hates whoever I date, she hates my grades, she hates that I donât want to go to college. Itâs exhausting.â
Reggie bit down on his lip, waiting for Luke to tell him more, as he tried to squash the little spark of jealousy that ignited in the pit of his stomach at the idea of Luke actually liking someone else.
âItâs justâŚâ Luke hesitated. âI hate how tense I am every time I go home.â
Reggie swallowed and rubbed his hand through Lukeâs messy hair, smiling a little when Luke groaned and then went boneless against him. âMaybe donât bring up the actual amount of people youâre messing around with to your mom,â he suggested, taking care to infuse nonchalance and sarcasm in his toneâLuke needed Reggie to be supportive, not jealous of said aforementioned people.
âYeah,â Luke snorted. âLike Iâm bringing those up around mom. Or my dad. I know theyâre okay with it, with me, just⌠they donât really understand that either. I justâI want them to get me.â He unsuccessfully tried to stifle another sob by pressing his face against Reggieâs neck, and choked, âWhy canât they just get me? Why is that so much to ask?â
âI dunno, Luke,â Reggie whispered, and his heart squeezed painfully as he thought about his own parents, about his father, who had kicked him out without a second thought, about his mother who hadnât lifted a finger to stop him, about his little sister who barely had a clue why Reggie had abandoned her. âYou got me, though. And Alex. And Bobby. We get you.â
âYeah,â Luke whispered hoarsely, tightening his fingers in Reggieâs shirt. âThank God.â
---------------
MAY 1994 (WEDNESDAY)
Reggie managed to corner Alex after rehearsal when Bobby and Luke left, grabbing him by the wrist and dragging him back inside the studio. Alex, to his credit, didnât struggle when Reggie dragged him back in, and looked at him with raised eyebrows as soon as Reggie closed the doors, almost like he was saying âwell, what now?â
âYouâve been distant,â Reggie blurted, and Alexâs eyes widened minutely before he schooled his expression into a cool mask of indifference.
âNo, I havenât,â he said, but his voice went up a little higher at the end, and Reggie knew he was lying immediately. Alex, it seemed, realized that too, because he heaved a sigh, his shoulders slumping as he pushed his hands into the pocket of his hoodie. âOkay, maybe I have,â he admitted.
âWhy?â Reggie demanded, pushing forward, pressing his hands to Alexâs shoulders. âI thought we wereâI thought we were okay. That we were trying, you know?â
âYeah,â Alex breathed, looking down. âYeah, we were. Look, Regââ
Reggie abruptly stepped back. âAre you breaking up with me?â His voice was shaking and he didnât like how hard the idea of Alex actively wanting to stop everything between them was hitting him, even though heâd been⌠heâd been kind of prepared for it too.
âReg, weâre not even really dating,â Alex said, and thatâthat really wasnât what Reggie had expected.
âOh,â Reggie choked. âWeâre not?â
Alex heaved a sigh, running his hand through his hair. âOkay, look,â he said slowly. âI know I saidâI know I said that we could try, that I didnât care that you were still in love with Luke⌠but itâit hurts. Seeing you look at him like that when⌠Shit, Reggie.â He shook his head and Reggie felt vaguely nauseous. âI donât know if I can do it anymore.â
Reggie sucked his lower lip between his teeth, chewing on it anxiously as he took a few steps back until the backs of his legs hit the couch and he sank down onto it.
âWhy didnât you just tell me that?â he asked quietly, looking up at Alex helplessly. âWe promised.â
Alex heaved a sigh and then moved to sit beside Reggie. âLook⌠After your dad, I know we were⌠I know I let myself get so caught up in this, in us, and Iââ He shook his head again and looked down at his hands. âReg, I want to give us a shot, I really, really do, but I feel like you canât do that. Not really, not while youâre in love with Luke, and I donât want to force you to get over that. I know how hard it is, butââ
âNo, hang on,â Reggie interrupted, holding a hand up. âWhy do you get to decide how I feel?â
âReg,â Alex tried, but Reggie jumped to his feet, actually a little angry at Alex for just presuming.
âNo,â he said harshly. âNo, you donât get to decide who I love moreâyes, Iâm in love with Luke, but that doesnât mean I donât⌠that doesnât make what you and I have any less real, Alex, I thought⌠I thought you knew that.â
Alex looked up at him, eyes wide and lips parted.
âAlex,â Reggie sighed, deflating. âAlex, tell me you know that.â
Alex swallowed thickly and looked down. Reggie exhaled shakily and dropped back onto the couch beside Alex, reaching out to put a hand on his thigh. âAlex,â he said quietly, rubbing his thumb over Alexâs thigh soothingly. âWhatâs really going on?â
âI got you kicked out of your house,â Alex blurted, and Reggie blinked. Of all the things heâd expected Alex to say, that hadnât been one.
âWhat?â he whispered.
âYou were kicked out because you were with me,â Alex said again, a little wildly, âand I know how hard itâs been on you, not being able to see Maggie, andââ He looked down and exhaled shakily before he took Reggieâs hand and entwined their fingers. âReg, I donât want you to resent me.â
Reggie blinked again.
âWhy wouldâAlex,â he shook his head and turned, curling one leg up and underneath him so he was facing Alex directly. âLook at me,â he told Alex, squeezing his hand hard when Alex didnât comply. âAlex, look at me.â Alex heaved a sigh, but did as Reggie asked and mirrored his position.
Reggie smiled tremulously and reached out, touching Alexâs cheek lightly. âI need you to listen, because youâre being a massive, massive dumbass, and thatâs coming from me.â Alex grinned despite himself and Reggie smiled back. âI am never going to blame you for what my dad did. You took care of me after, when I was a mess, when I could barely even remember how to breathe, you made sure I was somewhere safe, youââ Reggie leaned in and pressed a brief, hard kiss against Alexâs lips. âNothing that happened was your fault.â
He smirked when Alex chased after his lips when he pulled away, but didnât give in and lean back in right away. âI meant it,â he said quietly, leaning their foreheads together. âI meant it when I said I wanted to try. And Iâm not over Luke, and I know thatâs hard for you, and Iâm sorry. But Iâm trying. Iâm trying.â
Alex nodded shakily. âOkay. Iâm sorry, Iâitâs okay. I wanna try to.â
âYeah?â Reggie whispered.
âYeah,â Alex smiled, before fitting his hand around the back of Reggieâs neck and pulling him in for another kiss, deeper and hungrier than the first. It was easy, to let loose and lose himself in Alexâs eager touch and the slide of their lips, easy to let Alex draw him closer, so close Reggie was practically in his lap, fingers curled in Alexâs hair and the drummerâs firm hands in his hair and on his waist.
Reggie rolled his hips against Alexâs and Alex moaned against his lips, a deep, wanton sound that abruptly reminded him that they were on the couch in the studio and that the garage door didnât lock.
Slowly, he leaned back, barely able to bite back a groan as Alex tightened his hold on him, digging his teeth into Reggieâs lower lip and his fingers into the back of his neck.
âSlow down,â he chuckled. âI just donât want to do this on the couch.â
Alex pouted, but conceded the point wordlessly, and Reggie grinned, pressing a single, lingering kiss to Alexâs lips before disentangling their limbs and getting to his feet. âCome on then,â he smiled, offering Alex his hand to pull him up from the couch. âWe got a perfectly good bed up there.â
âGood,â Alex hummed, letting Reggie pull him to his feet and slipping his arms around him. âI got plans.â He pressed a kiss to Reggieâs lips. âIâve missed you.â
Reggie grinned and took Alexâs hand again, their fingers slotting together neatly.
âMe too, âLex. Me too.â

1, 26, and 32!
from this lovely list of asks- accepting asks
warning: this is really long, and the last question is answered with so much detail
1. How does their relationship develop in tandem with the Vaults? Are they a hindrance or do they bring them closer together?
Oh god, I get so mushy about this for so many reasons𼺠Rhia and Barnabyâs relationship works whether well in coordinance with the Vaults, neither is a hinderance to the other in any way, actually they more or less balance each other out. Where Rhia kind of has a more logical, rational approach to things (despite her being chaotic neutral), Barnaby is more stubborn about it, more bullheaded so heâs more apt to just say âfuck itâ and run into the Vaults without a plan, only to be stopped by Rhia before he does something stupid. She loves Barnaby too much, so much to the point that if she lost him, sheâd never be the same.
26. If they get married, who proposes to whom? And how do they do it?
So hereâs the thing. Rhia says sheâd propose, but sheâs really too much of a chicken shit for it. Sheâd cop out at the last minute after committing to the idea because sheâs terrified of the idea of her asking. To which Rowan laughs at her for, saying âI told you you couldnât!â
Barnaby is 100% the one to ask though, heâd try to elaborately plan it with a perfect date night, maybe going to like a little local carnival or something, only for those plans to go to shit because heâs either too scared or thereâs never a âperfect momentâ for it and for him to ultimately just wing it. Rhia loves it anyway, because she is 100% in love with this beautiful himbo.
32. Have they ever said anything hurtful to the other during an argument? If so, how do they go about apologizing?
Theyâve never- actually, no itâs happened. Once.
It was the week of the N.E.W.T.s in 7th year, and Rhia was beyond stressed out. Too many tests, not enough rest. Most of her time was spent in her private room studying where she couldnât be bothered (perks of becoming Head Girl). Sheâd already taken three, and her lowest score was exceeds expectations. She hadnât slept in Merlin knows how many hours and wasnât in the mood for anything. So, after her fourth N.E.W.T., she was ready to just give up. Barnaby, being done with his N.E.W.T.s, was just trying to help Rhia lighten up a little by joking around while she was trying to study for her final exam, which was possibly the worst idea heâs ever had, but he meant no harm by it. Needless to say, Rhia wasnât having any of his jokes, and she snapped.
Her exact words were: âBarnaby, you absolute, complete fucking dumbass!â, and she saw his facial expression drop from his usual bright, gleeful smile to a frown, and her heart dropped along with it. Sheâd hurt him. She didnât mean to, but she hurt him. Barnaby left Rhiaâs private room, not exactly too sure of himself or their relationship at that moment. He knew heâd fucked up, but he didnât know how to fix it- yet. And Rhia knew she fucked up too. For a solid thirty minutes, Rhia stopped studying and just cried, and cried, and cried. She couldnât believe sheâd said that to Barnaby. Was she really that stressed that sheâd taken it out on him? She felt so helpless about it. First, it was Rowan to see her red, puffy eyes when sheâd entered Rhiaâs room. Rowan tried to console her, to no avail. Then it was Ben who tried, and also failed.
The next day, Penny tried to console Rhia over lunch, as she still hadnât spoken to Barnaby and honestly she didnât think sheâd have the nerve to even look at him. After Penny, it was Tonks, and even Tonksâ jokes and antics couldnât make her feel better. The last person that day to try was Tulip, and she tried her damndest and still couldnât make Rhia smile or laugh. Rhia cried again, and she wasnât sure for how many hours. Sheâd barely eaten, the only thing on her stomach was a small sandwich, which half of it went to Penny anyway.
Day two of not talking to Barnaby: little did Rhia know, the guys had gotten together to help Barnaby recuperate, helping him with ideas to talk to his girlfriend. Talbott had actually consoled Rhia, albeit not successfully, she was surprised that Talbott genuinely cared behind all their playful competitive banter. Charlie was the last to try and console her, and when it didnât work, he threatened to send an owl to Bill to come and console her.
The second night of not talking to Barnaby: around 9:30 that same night, Barnaby had mustered up the courage to talk to Rhia, whoâd been crying yet again. He gave the password to the enchanted painting that kept the door to her private room hidden, and he lightly tapped on the door when it appeared. âDarling, I know Iâm probably the last one you want to talk to...â . The deep, raspiness of Barnabyâs voice. It still gave her goosebumps and made her heart flutter. Heâd always have that affect on her. Without saying a word, all she did was sit up in her bed, and after finding the courage, she finally opened the door, those beautiful green eyes meeting her deep amber orbs. There were no words exchanged between them, but Barnaby instinctively pulled Rhia into a bear hug, his giant frame towering over her petite one.
âIâm so sorry I said that, you know I didnât mean any of it...â
âI know, darling, I know.â
Rhia still cried for two weeks after they made up, but Barnaby constantly assured her that heâs not hurt by it anymore and that he understands why she was so stressed out.

Twilight Characters and Their Favorite Disney Channel Original Movies
Bella Swan: High School Musical (2006)
A lover of the classics, Bella was one of the kids who found Gabriellaâs misunderstood brilliance inspiring. If only Bella could find a guy who wasnât quite what he seemed on the surface, then sheâd really have it all...
Edward Cullen: Phantom of the Megaplex (2000)
A 17-year-old straight white male protagonist? A poorly done Disney homage to a classic horror story? A happy ending where everyone gets a fun success story? All good things, in Eddieâs personal opinion.Â
Esme Cullen: Momâs Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)
Esme loves a bit of a joke, especially one that has a decently adorable ending. While vampires are depicted as the villains in this movie, itâs hard to take it personally since itâs early Disney Channel and therefore incredibly corny.
Carlisle Cullen: Halloweentown (1998)
A big fan of both goofiness and spookiness, Carlisle thinks the concept behind Halloweentown is wonderful. Scary creatures that are really very nice? Sounds familiar. This movie reinforces all the best parts of the Cullen Clanâs âVegetarianismâ to the family patriarch.Â
Emmett Cullen: Jump In! (2007)
Singing. Sports. Romance. Corbin Bleu. This movie has it all, what more is there to say?
Rosalie Hale: Avalon High (2010)
When Avalon High came out in 2010 with a blonde leading lady who ran fast, had a sassy but mopey sidekick, and fell in love with a handsome himbo, Rosalie knew she had a new favorite Disney Channel Movie. Avalon High quickly replaced her previous favorite, Cadet Kelly (2002).
Alice Cullen: Teen Beach Movie (2013)
She canât help it! The whole aesthetic reminds her of her early years with Jasper. Not to mention the ending is totally predictable!
Jasper Hale: The Cheetah Girls (2003)
Finally a diverse cast! Doing his best to learn about intersectionality from his new family, Jasper finds himself very attached to the Cheetah Girls; a kickass group of ladies from all different backgrounds who come together to make music and achieve their dreams. Heâs seen all the sequels. He has a cheetah print cowboy hat.Â
Charlie Swan: High School Musical 2 (2007)
Donât tell Bella but that dumb little musical movie she watched with him one summer might have made it onto his DVR...
Jacob Black: Get a Clue (2002)
What? Youâre really gonna judge Jacob for this? It was a good movie, okay? Lindsay Lohan deserved better. She was talented and this was a great role for Brenda Song, too. Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior (2006) is a close second favorite.Â
Mike Newton: The Thirteenth Year (1999)Â
A movie that Disney ran well into the late 2000â˛s, The Thirteenth Year always resonated with Mike. Wouldnât it be so cool if you suddenly found out you were a mythical creature!? That would be so fuckinâ cool!! Could you imagine just like...being a merman?? Or like a vampire or a gnome or some shit??
