Drone to be launched from Su-57 would have already been developed
The idea would be to launch a swarm of drones from the Russian fifth-generation fighter.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 28/11/2023 - 10:10am Military
Merely illustrative photo of a Su-57 flying with an Okhotnik drone.
The fifth-generation Su-57 fighter will have in the near future the ability to use mini-drones that the aircraft will carry on board. Mini-UAVs have already been created for various purposes, which can be placed both at an external fixed point and in the internal compartment and then launched into the air.
The fighter will launch a group of drones at once and control them, informs the agencyRIA Novosti.
The mini-UAV has the direct task of carrying out attack operations, performing reconnaissance and electronic suppression of enemy attack weapons. The launch of dozens of drones by a group of Su-57 will provide a breakthrough in air defense, overloading their information channels and reaching air defense systems both with the help of drones and with their own means of destruction.
In recent years, the development of unmanned technology, both in the civil and military fields, has grown at a rapid pace. In November 2021, Viktor Kladov, Director of International Cooperation and Regional Policy at Rostec State Corporation, said that as early as the next decade, manned combat aircraft will be gradually replaced by unmanned drones. This is due not only to the technological advantages of drones, but also to their ability to work in collaboration with other drones and manned aircraft.
The state-owned company is actively developing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) capable of exchanging information and collaborating with Checkmate and Su-57. This opens up new perspectives for the creation of the so-called "drone swarm" - a concept in which several drones work together to perform different tasks in combat conditions.
A Su-57 fighter will be able to carry more than a dozen reconnaissance and attack drones and unmanned electronic warfare systems in the internal compartment of the fuselage. The UAVs will interact through secure communication channels both with the on-board complex of the carrier aircraft and with each other. One of the main advantages of this approach is the ability to effectively carry out complex missions that were previously inaccessible to combat aircraft. A swarm of drones can perform reconnaissance, attack targets, maintain air superiority and perform other tactical missions.
Previously, the Federal Intellectual Property Service issued the RU2807624 patent to the United Aircraft Corporation for a two-seat multifunctional aircraft for use as an air control center and ensuring interaction between aviation and military formations with network-centric methods to control weapons objects on the battlefield. It is assumed that due to a wide range of communication media, including satellite, high-speed communication channel and installation of equipment for group information transmission over long distances, the aircraft will also be used as a control point for unmanned aerial vehicles.

Dish up some comfort
Recipes and images courtesy of Julia Rutland, author
As seen in https://www.mainlinemedianews.com/2024/02/25/dish-up-some-comfort/
Is it the taste, nostalgia, mood or being lonely that causes one to resort to eating comfort food?
Whether it be high-fat, sugar, carbs or salt, at certain times we crave eating homestyle foods. As I write this column, it is a cold, gray and blustery day. Easy to prepare, although not exactly gourmet, this category of food we’ve come to savor comes to the rescue.
Creamy mashed potatoes with spinach fit the bill for me on this bleak day. It’s a dish Mom and Grandma served frequently.
Depending upon the region or country you are from, what one considers comfort food varies. Brazil’s feijoada, French onion soup, Greece’s moussaka, Irish stew, Italy’s lasagna, Poland’s pierogi, United Kingdom’s fish and chips and the United States’ macaroni and cheese are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this type of connection to our food.
According to an article in The Atlantic, “The phrase ‘comfort food’ has been around at least as early as 1966, when the Palm Beach Post used it in a story…”
A feature by Bert Gambini in a University of Buffalo newsletter says: “Regardless of what you identify as comfort food, it’s likely the attraction to that dish is based on having a good relationship with the person with whom you remember first preparing it…. Comfort foods are often the foods that our caregivers gave us when we were children.”
“If we have a positive association with the person who made that food, then there’s a good chance that you will be drawn to that food during times of rejection or isolation,” says University of Buffalo psychologist Shira Gabriel.
The top five comfort foods listed in Discover Magazine (https://bit.ly/3uuiQI3) are grilled cheese, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pizza, spaghetti and meatballs.
It goes on to say, “Ralph’s Italian Restaurant (oldest Italian restaurant in the U.S.) in South Philadelphia is recognized as having the best meatballs in the U.S.”
Check out this link, bit.ly/3OOgudJ, for a video of them being prepared.
There are myriad books devoted to comfort food and homestyle cooking. So many of these recipes celebrate American cuisine, countless handed down through the generations.
Julia Rutland, author of a book that will be available on April 16 titled “Homestyle Kitchen: Fresh & Timeless Comfort Food for Sharing” (2024, Adventure Publications, $22.99) said: “Homestyle cooking creates the type of food that embodies the warmth and familiarity of a loving home. While family and cultures differ, homestyle cooking relies on fresh ingredients, traditions, generational recipes, and comfort.”
Rutland’s hope is to inspire memories. Many of the recipes featured are from her mom’s recipe box with her own twist on them. The recipe for Wacky Cake, she mentioned, is the first recipe she ever made when she was a child. Making this cake today preserves not only the flavors but also the memories of shared meals around the table; emotionally comforting.
During an interview, Rutland used a food term I was not familiar with: “meat ‘n’ three.” Do you know what it is? Well, if you are from the South, you might. It’s a way Southern comfort food is served in many restaurants… you choose a meat (often it is meatloaf, fried chicken, country- fried steak) plus three sides from the menu.
Guess what some of the side selections might be? Mac n’ cheese, collard greens, hush puppies. My mouth is watering thinking about the meals I enjoyed in the South.
Comfort food and homestyle cooking don’t seem to be falling out of popularity. Let’s get cooking a few recipes from Rutland’s book, food that is approachable, food we cherish that brings back fond memories. One of these may be or become a dish you savor. For the recipe for Parker House Rolls, visit https://stephenfries.com/recipes.
Even with warmer weather around the corner, I’ll still be eating mashed potatoes and spinach when I crave comfort food.
Here are come recipes from Rutland’s upcoming book.
Baked Four- Cheese Macaroni: This crispy-topped and creamy-centered macaroni and cheese features four cheeses that take the company-size side dish to the next level. (Courtesy of Julia Rutland)
Baked Four-Cheese Macaroni
The headnote says: “This crispy-topped and creamy-centered macaroni and cheese features four cheeses that take the company-size side dish to the next level. Use a variety of your favorite cheeses — smoked Gouda is lovely! Grate from large pieces rather than buying packaged shredded cheese because those contain starches that keep them from clumping and melting well. It’s okay to skip the topping and eat the dish before baking, but you’ll miss the golden-brown crust. Instead of panko, feel free to try cheese crackers as a variation.”
Serves 8-10
Ingredients:
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Gouda, provolone or Monterey Jack cheese
½ cup (2 ounces) shredded Parmesan cheese
½ cup salted butter
¼ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
2 cups milk or half-and-half
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, cut into pieces
1 (16-ounce) package macaroni, penne, or other short pasta
1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease (with butter) a 9-by-13-inch (3-quart) baking dish. Toss cheddar, Gouda, and Parmesan together in a small bowl. Reserve ½ cup shredded cheese mixture.
Melt butter in a large skillet or saucepan. Whisk in flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Cook, whisking constantly, for about 1 to 2 minutes. Whisk in broth and milk until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, for 5 minutes or until thickened. Stir in cream cheese; cook until smooth. Stir in all but reserved 1/2 cup shredded cheese mixture; cook, stirring frequently, until smooth.
Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and transfer to prepared baking dish.
Pour sauce over pasta, stirring until well blended. Stir panko into reserved ½ cup cheese mixture; sprinkle over pasta mixture. Bake, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.
This Chicken Divan’s origin is said to come from the Divan Parisien Restaurant at the Chatham Hotel in New York City sometime in the 1930s or 1940s. While many recipes use canned-soup shortcuts, this one is closer to the original with a homemade bechamel sauce. (Courtesy of Julia Rutland)
Chicken Divan Casserole
The headnote says: “This dish makes a comforting meal with or without a side of buttered noodles or hot cooked rice. Its origin is said to come from the Divan Parisien Restaurant at the Chatham Hotel in New York City sometime in the 1930s or 1940s, but it wasn’t likely served in a casserole form. It became wildly popular in households in the 1950s; while many recipes use canned-soup shortcuts, this one is closer to the original with a homemade béchamel sauce.”
Serves 6-8
Ingredients:
6 cups broccoli florets (about ¾ pound)
2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
1 teaspoon fine sea salt, divided
¾ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
5 tablespoons salted or unsalted butter, divided
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups chicken broth or Quick Chicken Broth (on page 44)
1 cup half-and-half or whole milk
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ cup sour cream
Cheesy Topping (recipe below)
Hot cooked pasta or rice (optional)
Directions:
Lightly grease (with butter) bottom and sides of a 9-by-13-inch (3-quart) baking dish.
Cook broccoli in boiling water to cover for 5 minutes or until crisp-tender. (You can also place broccoli in a microwave-safe bowl with ¼ cup water. Cover and microwave on high for 3 ½ minutes.) Drain and transfer to prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle chicken with ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken in batches and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until browned on all sides. Transfer to baking dish.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Melt remaining 3 tablespoons butter in the same skillet (no need to wipe clean) over medium heat. Add flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in broth and half-and-half. Cook, stirring frequently, for 2 minutes or until slightly thickened. Stir in cheese, Worcestershire, cayenne pepper, remaining ½ teaspoon salt, and remaining ½ teaspoon black pepper. Stir in sour cream. Pour sauce over chicken and broccoli.
Sprinkle Cheesy Topping evenly on top. Bake, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Serve over hot cooked pasta or rice, if desired.
Cheesy Topping: Combine ½ cup shredded Parmesan or cheddar cheese, ½ cup panko or fine breadcrumbs, and 2 tablespoons melted salted or unsalted butter in a bowl. Makes ¾ cup.
Originally made famous at Hollywood’s Brown Derby Restaurant, this Cobb Salad has changed little over the years. (Courtesy of Julia Rutland)
Cobb Salad
The headnote says: “Originally made famous at Hollywood’s Brown Derby Restaurant, this salad has changed little over the years. In 1937, owner Bob Cobb explored the kitchen one night in search of a snack. He pulled out various ingredients from the refrigerator and created a hearty salad that he shared with his friend Sid Grauman of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Grauman returned the next day and asked for a ‘Cobb salad.’ The Cobb salad is a favorite on menus today. Off season, endive and watercress might be tricky to find in markets. Substitute easily found spring salad mix instead.”
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 small head Romaine lettuce, chopped
½ head iceberg lettuce, chopped
1 small bunch curly endive, chopped
½ bunch watercress
2 tablespoons minced fresh chives
2 tomatoes, peeled and diced
2 cups diced cooked chicken breasts
6 bacon strips, cooked and chopped
3 hard-cooked eggs, diced
1 ripe avocado, diced
½ cup crumbled Roquefort or blue cheese
French Vinaigrette Dressing (recipe below)
Directions:
Combine Romaine, iceberg, endive, watercress and chives in a large salad bowl, mixing well. Place on a serving platter or on individual salad plates. Arrange tomatoes, chicken, bacon, eggs, and avocado in strips across salad greens. Sprinkle with cheese. Drizzle with French Vinaigrette Dressing.
French Vinaigrette Dressing: Combine ¼ cup water, ¾ teaspoon dry mustard, 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar, ¼ cup red wine vinegar, 1 ½ teaspoons lemon juice, ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, and 1 minced garlic clove in a bowl. Whisk in 3/4 cup vegetable oil and 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil. Blend well just before serving. Store in refrigerator up to 2 weeks. Makes 1 ½ cups.
Named for their creation in the 1870s at the Parker House hotel in Boston, these rolls differ from regular yeast rolls in that they are folded into layers, brushed with butter and baked close together. (Courtesy of Julia Rutland)

Whales and the DNA That Made Them Giants

Whales and the DNA That Made Them Giants
With names like titanosaurus and giganotosaurus, you’d be forgiven for thinking that dinosaurs were the most massive animals to ever live. But if you’re after gargantuan creatures, chartering a boat is better than building a time machine — the largest animals to ever exist are whales, topped off by the truly titanic blue whale. Maxing out at almost 100 feet long and 190 metric tons, the blue whale dwarfs the competition.
Despite being well-known for their enormous size, big bodies actually came into fashion relatively recently among whales — only five million to 10 million years ago, practically yesterday in geologic time. The first whales were the size of wolves and sea lions, a far cry from the submarine-size behemoths that swim the seas today. A prehistoric boom of ocean nutrients and the freedom from gravity that water provides played a role in making whales so large, but the actual genetic changes underpinning their ballooning have remained a mystery.
To examine how changes to whale DNA over time may have caused their gigantism, Mariana Nery, a biologist at the State University of Campinas in Brazil and colleagues used a targeted approach. The results, published Thursday in the journal Scientific Reports, implicate genes that have functions in growth hormone and insulin pathways in causing the enormousness of whales.
Dr. Nery and her team took advantage of the fact that humans have long studied the genes that affect body size in some of whales’ closest relatives, like horses, sheep and cows. When comparing nine of these body size-related genes across 19 whale species of different sizes, the researchers found evidence of positive natural selection in four genes — that is, there were changes in the DNA that correlated with a bigger body.
The study’s finding about positive selection “isn’t the definitive answer,” but rather a first step to saying whether these genes are the cause of whales’ colossal size, says Michael McGowen, a biologist at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., who was not involved with the study.
Two blue whales feeding in waters off the California coast. The epidermal growth factor gene of filter-feeding baleen whales has become nonfunctional over evolutionary time, what scientists call a pseudogene.Doc White/Nature Picture Library, via Alamy
Dr. Nery agreed: “This is a little piece of the big puzzle,” she said. Future work will involve a look at the regulatory DNA regions that control these genes and also a thorough sweep of entire whale genomes for more potential culprits, she said.
One result that the team wasn’t expecting came from a gene called E.G.F., or epidermal growth factor; or rather, from the lack of it. The E.G.F. gene of the biggest whales, the filter-feeding baleen whales, has become nonfunctional over evolutionary time, turning into what scientists call a pseudogene.
“That, I think, is one of the most interesting results,” Dr. McGowen said.
In addition to size, E.G.F. is also important for the development of teeth — which baleen whales don’t have. It’s not clear when E.G.F. became a pseudogene in the ancestor of baleen whales, Dr. Nery said, but “we can infer it was related to the emergence of lunge-feeding,” the way baleen whales scoop up huge mouthfuls of plankton.
Being as big as a whale has obvious advantages, like scaring off predators, but there should be downsides, too, like an increased risk of cancer. More cells in a body means more cell divisions, which means more chances for cancer to develop. However, whales somehow defy this expectation, and the clues to why may be hiding in the same genes that seemingly put them at risk in the first place. The four genes found to be under positive selection not only play a role in body size, Dr. Nery said, but also in mitigating the effects of that bigger size — including cancer suppression.
But could studying how whales grew to be so massive help us fight cancer in humans? Dr. McGowen thinks so. Getting a grip on whales’ gigantic genes could help humans with “zeroing in on certain genes that are related to slowing down cancer progression” or something similar, he said.
Whether studying the genetics of a whale’s magnitude ever helps to fight disease, the mystery of their gigantism is certainly a topic of public interest. Dr. Nery said she hoped her work could “bring attention to these wonderful animals, and their amazing and compelling evolutionary history.” Whales are vital, she said, for our understanding of evolution itself.

🌸 Updates and FAQs for Watching the TGCF Donghua! 🌸
✴️First, check out my detailed guide HERE if you want to know how to subscribe to YouTube or Bilibili!
Please read through these if you have any questions first before sending in an ask, as it's probably answered here (or the previous guide)!!! If you don't see it here, or still have confusions afterwards, then feel free to send in an ask or DM me!
---
✨Important Notes/Updates✨
Bilibili is allowing non-members to watch for free! No region locks, and you don’t even need to make an account. Free watchers will be one week behind paid members. But this is a legal and free way to support the donghua if you’re unable to pay! (This actually means that you’ll be able to see the episodes faster and for free on Bilibili than you would on YouTube, because YouTube has a two week delay instead of just one week.)
Funimation is broadcasting TGCF in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. These are some of the regions which are blocked by YouTube, so this is an available alternative for those who don’t want to go through Bilibili. They have also stated they will launch in Mexico and Brazil this winter.
ALL broadcasts are in Chinese with hard-coded/embedded English and Chinese subs. (I.e., they come with the broadcast itself, on top of the image. Nothing to toggle on/off, they are automatically there.) They are the exact same across all the platforms.
Please support official releases so that we can get more seasons, and high quality! This is still niche content, believe it or not!
---
✨Frequntly Asked Questions✨
🔹GENERAL FAQs:🔹
1.) "Where is the best place to watch?"
I still reccomend Bilibili's native website/app over all other streaming platforms. This is due to some key points:
Bilibili's website/app gets the episode the very second they drop. There is no delay whatsoever. YouTube and Funimation have been delayed the last two weeks. It's unknown if this is just a hiccup or what, but if watching new episodes ASAP is important to you, going through Bilibili ensures you will not have to worry about any uncertainty.
Price breakdowns: Bilibili's website/app 3-month membership is $10-11 USD. Their YouTube channel's "MBBM Lv2" membership varies by region, but in many places is similar or just a tad more. In the US, the MBBM Lv2 membership and Funimation membership is the same price ($5.99 per month, or $17.97 for 3 months). So you can actually save some cash by going through Bilibili directly.
In the end, this is largely up to personal choice and comfort. Some people may find it difficult to navigate Bilibili's website even with guides and google translate's auto-translate feature. In this case, YouTube or Funimation are fine alternatives. If you also have an existing Funimation sub or plan to use it to watch other shows, then that's perfectly valid too. Similar with the MBBM lv2 sub on YouTube, especially if you want to use it to see other shows (e.g. Legend of Exorcism which is only English-subbed on YouTube).
2.) "Where do I watch for free?"
On Bilibili's website, you can watch episodes for free! You will be one episode behind paid members, but it's a legal way to support the donghua. You don't even need to create an account!
3.) "What episode will be airing when/where?"
Check out the table below for the differences in airing times. Time is 11AM China Time.*
NOTE: Funimation is technically supposed to be the same as Bilibili members/YouTube MBBM Lv2, but the last few episodes have been delayed so I have no clue.... *Additionally, YouTube's episodes have been delayed by a little bit, but they've aired the same day.
4.) "How can I support the donghua?"
Free, on YouTube: Subscribe to Bilibili's YouTube Channel, give likes to TGCF videos/clips, and leave nice comments!
Free, on Bilibili: Everyone can follow the official TGCF account and page, plus leave likes on videos. All this following stuff requires you to have passed the Bilibili quiz to unlock levels: If you are lv2+, you can leave comments and give coins to offical TGCF videos. (Log in daily to get 1 coin/day if you're lv1+!) If you are lv4+, leave a good 5-star review!
Paid: Buy subscriptions to watch the donghua! Also, merchhhhh~
---
🔸YOUTUBE-RELATED FAQs🔸
1.) "What's the difference between Bilibili's YouTube Channel's MBBM Lv1 and Lv2 memberships?"
MBBM Lv2 allows you to watch the episodes on the same day as Bilibili's website broadcast.
MBBM Lv1 has new episodes delayed by one week, meaning you will be one episode behind the others. There actually is zero point in subscribing to MBBM Lv1 (unless you want to watch other subbed donghua) because you can watch the same content on Bilibili for absolutely free, since Bilibili is allowing non-members to watch TGCF one episode behind paid members.
You can also watch two episodes behind on YouTube.
2.) "If I have YouTube Premium/Red, do I still need a membership on Bilibili's YouTube page?"
Yes. YouTube premium is completely separate from the channel-specific memberships.
3.) "Are episodes simulcast on YouTube?"
While originally stated as being simulcast, there actually seems to be a bit of a delay on YouTube as of now. It's unclear if this will change with future episodes.
4.) "Do I need a VPN?"
If you are from one of the restricted countries, then yes, you'll need to use a VPN. You can still pay for the subscription as normal, and then use a VPN to watch the donghua. It will not affect payment.
---
🔹BILIBILI-RELATED FAQs:🔹
1.) "Do I need to take that 100-question quiz to sign up for Bilibili or the membership?!"
No, it's totally optional! You do not need it to either watch the free episodes or to buy a membership. It's only if you want to comment and stuff. It might make you think you gotta do it, or enter a code, but it's actually not needed. Check out THIS post for more info!!! (However, you may still want to do it in order to level up and eventually leave a nice review for the donghua!)
2.) "I'm only able to watch 6min on Bilibili's website when I watch from my phone. Do I need the app?"
You do not need the app. Switch your browser to Desktop Mode in order to watch the video in full.
Be sure to download a browser like Google Chrome, Firefox, etc that supports this mode if your native browser doesn't allow for it.
3.) "Can I get the app on iPhone/iOS?"
This depends on if you are in a country where the app is not region locked in the app store. If you're able to download it that way, great! If not, try using a VPN and setting your region to mainland China. It may work. APKs are not useable on iPhones, so unless you know how to sideload apps onto your device, you may be stuck with the app store only.
Do note that you might be unable to pay for a Bilibili membership through the app, depending on version, but you can always simply pay through the website and then use the app as normal. It will apply account-wide on all devices.
4.) "Why are there two versions of the app?"
One seems to be the international version, which is more basic and lets you pay via GooglePay/ApplePay. The other one seems to be made for mainland China, and allows you to even buy merchandise through it (Chinese address/bank acc required). Mostly, both have to be downloaded via APK on Android. But some iOS users have reported different versions of the app being available for them through the app store (namely the int'l ver, and some have said they can use a VPN to get the mainland one).
5.) "Is there any benefit to having the app over just using the website?"
Not really, no. With the app you can buy very cute hualian themed skins for your profile, though (if you have the mainland version of the app). Plus you can save videos for offline viewing.
6.) "Do I need to enter my area code for Bilibili when signing up/in?"
NO, you do not enter your area code in the phone number field. Select your country from the drop-down list and it will automatically consider your area code. (E.g. if you're in America, select 美国 and enter in your number like 5557779999.)
7.) "I didn't get to set a password when signing up, so how do I log into my Bilibili account after being logged out?"
Use the same phone number you did to sign up. Instead of a password, you'll enter in a one-time key that is sent to your phone via text message. (NOTE: some people have reported not receiving these messages, which may vary by phone carrier!)
As mentioned above, don't include your area code when filling out your number.
Also, if you are signed in on the app on your phone, you can scan the QR code on the log-in page through the app.
8.) "How do I turn off the barrage comments filling up the video I'm watching?"
Select the little button that reads "弹" under the video:
(Website vs App)
9.) Is the Bilibili subscription auto-renewing?
No, the 1-month (¥25), 3-month (¥68), 1-year (¥168) subscriptions will not automatically renew. They are a one-time payment only!
Notice that the renewing payments all say "连续" in front of them, which means "continuing" or "successive" types of subscriptions. They are also cheaper than the one-time payment. (E.g. the renewing 3-month sub is ¥45 instead of ¥68.) Moreover, the renewing types are not even available to purchase with PayPal, afaik. You need Alipay or WeChat Pay, etc.
10.) "Can I use the app/membership to read the manhua too?"
Unfortunately, not quite! Your Bilibili account is universal, but you'll need to download the manhua app seperately and topping up M-coins to pay for the manhua. (One-time purchases, either by volume or by chapter as per your choice.)
11.) "What resolutions are available?"
You can watch up to 480p as a free member. Paid members can watch at 1080p and high-bit-rate 1080p. It's possible to chromecast it to TV, too. (I haven't tried it, but others have!)
12.) "Can I watch across multiple devices?"
Yes, you can!
13.) "Do I need a VPN?"
No, Bilibili is not region-locked. However, some particular countries may have Chinese apps blocked.... :(
14.) "I want to leave a comment/review. How do I level up on Bilibili?"
Log in daily, watch at least one video per day, give coins (attained by logging in) to your fave videos, etc! It will definitely take a while haha.
15.) "Will I be able to watch other donghua like MDZS or SVSSS with my membership on Bilibili?"
No, those two donghuas are produced by TenCent, not Bilibili. You will need either a TenCent/WeTV account, or you can watch them on their YouTube channel (free).
---
🔸FUNIMATION-RELATED FAQs🔸
1.) "Is Funimation's broadcast a simulcast?"
It is supposed to be, according to their initial announcements. They seem to be having some technical difficulties, but those may be resolved soon. I suggest keeping an eye on their twitter for updates if you are interested in watching through them!
2.) "Do I have to pay extra on my Funimation sub to watch TGCF?"
No, afaik, the regular $5.99 sub covers TGCF too.
---
I hope this helps out people further, so we can all have an easy time watching the donghua! And please do support it legally! 🙏
If you still need help, feel free to send in an ask!

Become Champion, complete the Pokédex, and beat the many challenge modes available; it’s time to prove your worth as a trainer! Pokémon Uranium, at its core, is a homage to the original Pokémon games, which have been in the hearts of many of us since childhood. Coupled with a serious storyline and slightly harder gameplay, this fangame is aimed towards a slightly older audience: one that often remembers Pokémon with nostalgia.
How to Play:
Go to Pokemon Uranium’s Reddit here, which gives several download options and further instructions.
Story:
-Light spoilers below-
The story of this game is unique and interesting. For the most part it is strongest at the beginning and the end of the game, though it’s not particularly weak in the middle. There is a cut scene at the beginning of the game in which your mother is working as a scientist at a nuclear power plant, where she disappears during an accidental nuclear meltdown. Your dad, Ranger Kellyn, originally from the Almia region, is struck with grief, and becomes obsessed with his work as a ranger. You, the main character, are forced to live with your elderly Aunt, and later become a Pokemon trainer and assistant to the local professor to financially relieve her.
If you find the above summary of your first fifteen minutes of game play intriguing, you’ll probably enjoy the plot of Pokemon Uranium immensely. I certainly did- the game’s story mostly took itself seriously, getting dark in a few places without getting too edgy.
The biggest difference between main series games’ plot and Uranium is the lack of your average evil team. The enemy in this game is both physical and philosophical. I’ll only get into it partially, so I don’t spoil it too badly. The main enemy are Nuclear-type Pokemon, and whoever/whatever is causing the meltdowns of nuclear plants across the region. But these plants were obviously created by humans, and in turn Nuclear-type Pokemon are also in way man-made. Nuclear Pokemon may be the obvious enemy in this game, but the human perspective is also lightly explored, and for this I was glad.
This is also the first fan game I’ve played through in a while with genuinely interesting characters. Your rival is a bratty child at first but matures and develops as a person by the end, for example. Additionally, your absentee father may seem distant and uninvolved in your life at first, but eventually you grow closer to him too, as you battle Nuclear Pokemon alongside each other. Many of the gym leaders are also interesting past their gimmick, and are encountered not just in their gyms, but are also present in another part of the game that you’ll just have to find out for yourself.
Score: 9/10
Pokemon:
The Pokedex of this game contains exactly 200 Pokemon, about 150 of which are original Fakemon, the rest being Pokemon selected from various regions. At first, I was puzzled as to why some real Pokemon were included, but then I later realized that many of these Pokemon were either given new evolutions or mega evolutions, which in the main series are sorely needed. The best example of this is Dunsparce’s new evolution, Dunseraph, making it a strong Dragon/Flying type Pokemon. However, a there are a few main series Pokemon that are included without any improvements being made to them, so their appearance does confuse me a bit, though I’m not totally against their presence.
The Fakemon in this game are overall likeable. The starters are all well designed, and in my opinion are some of the best Pokemon in the game. They are unique because they’re only two stage Pokemon, with all main series starters being 3 stage Pokemon. I picked Orchynx, which is a Grass/Steel cat Pokemon, and there was never a point where I regretted my choice. The rest of the Fakemon are pretty good- there are some designs I’m not the biggest fan of, but this can be said about many official Pokemon too. The Fakemon range widely in abilities, types, and movepools- which brings me to my next topic.
Undoubtedly, one of the biggest gimmicks of the game is the new Nuclear-type. Nuclear Pokemon are weak against every type except themselves, but their new Nuclear-type moves are super-effective against every type but Nuclear and Steel-types, and doubly so against Pokemon with more than one type. This makes these Pokemon super interesting to use- the strongest of their types can be the ultimate glass cannon in battle if used correctly.
There are both Nuclear versions of main-series Pokemon and some original Nuclear Pokemon present in the game. The former are much more numerous than the latter, and I wish there were a few more original Nuclear types, but I understand coming up with new Pokemon for a new type must be time consuming and difficult.
Score: 9/10
Gameplay:
The gameplay of Uranium is great overall. While the game is contained in a single region, there is an East and West segment that makes it almost seem like there are two different regions in the game. The West half that you begin on is land-based, and the East half is water-based, on an archipelago of islands. The wealth of different cities, areas of interest, and routes are sure to give the player more than enough to take in and explore.
For those of you curious, I would put the difficulty of Uranium at a bit above the average main series game. It’s not horrifically hard, and not much grinding is necessary until towards the end of the game. A balanced team will help you get far, and I’d say it’s rather important to have a Steel-type, Nuclear-type, or both on your team to help you get through battles with Nuclear Pokemon. However, if you’re looking to bump up the difficulty level in playing, having neither of those types will definitely help challenge you.
HMs are present in this game, but there are items that you can receive later to replace them. It is nice that these items become available later in the game, but I wonder why HMs exist at all in the game if the creators were willing to replace the HMs with items. I would have preferred receiving these items rather than HMs from the get-go, but it is pleasant at least that you don’t need HMs eventually. My biggest gripe about HMs is how late you receive HM Fly in the game- not until winning your 8th badge. Luckily, there are various methods of transportation available, like subway and boat, but paying for these services and coordinating which methods work in what town is a little tedious.
In general, the gameplay of Uranium is very polished. There are so many tiny features that make this game more playable than even main series game, still without making the game too easy. One such feature is the Pokepod, your main technological device. In it, there is a Jukebox used to listen to any in-game track, your region map, and a phone to call the regional professor, and store numbers of trainers looking for rematches. A Pokeball is present next to trainers who want rematches, and best of all, your opponent’s rematch team has levels that are scaled to be equivalent to yours. This makes grinding much easier and more enjoyable.
Score: 8.5/10
Art/Music:
The overworld art resembles Gen 4 graphics in a way that is creative and original- I can barely find a tile that was imported directly from Gen 4, aside from some overworld character sprites. The landscapes are varied and nice to look at, many of them being based on the country Brazil. My favorite city is Venesi City, which is a beautiful port city based on Venice, Italy.
The in-battle art and animation are fantastic as well, based on Gen 5, with your Pokemon and your opponent’s actually moving around a bit. There are also many moves with great animations. However, there is also a fair number of moves lacking any animation. This bothered me a little, but perhaps it could have been a glitch? Either way, the battle scene is very polished- almost every new area has new background art accurate to whatever time of day it currently is. With how much time is spent battling in this game, I appreciate the effort put in to make it look as nice as it does.
The music in Uranium is about a 50/50 split of well-composed original OSTs and re-orchestrated versions of tracks from other generations. Since these re-orchestrations are well made and contribute well to the game’s atmosphere, I don’t mind the lack of original music in these spots. I especially enjoyed that the diving theme was a slower, more beautiful version of the in-game surf music.
There is one more important thing of note before I move on, and that is the ability to choose a well-designed, non-binary player character. Gamefreak should really pay attention and implement that feature (but I know they won’t). Fantastic job on inclusivity in this area, and I especially loved the proper usage of pronouns depending on which appearance you choose.
Score: 9.5/10
Misc:
If you play Pokemon fan games, or have even heard of them at all, then you probably know at least a little bit about the incredible rise and forced decline of Pokemon Uranium. I urge you to read about what really happened here, according to one of the creators, @oripoke. I don’t have much more to say about this topic without getting heated about it, so I suggest checking out the provided link here if you’re at all interested.
Because of the cease-and-desist order from Nintendo, the community for this game is a little more hidden than it would be for a famous fan game. However, you can find an extremely helpful wiki here, and the main discord here.
Overall:
I’ll begin my conclusion by saying that this is the third time I’ve attempted to finish Pokemon Uranium, and boy am I upset that I didn’t stick to following through with this gem of a game earlier. Uranium truly does have just about everything fans could want- a game with a slightly deeper storyline than main series games, with nearly all new Pokemon (and even some old ones, if you prefer), a new region to explore, and even a new type to spice things up.
I would gladly recommend this game to Pokemon fans new and old. This is a polished, pretty product, and you won’t find many other fan games as complete and polished as this one. There are almost no glitches- the only one that I experienced was the music cutting out occasionally, but the game can easily be saved and rebooted to fix this.
Usually I have more to say in this ending section, but I think that’s all for my final thoughts. This game really is just a work of art, and because of its interesting plot and gameplay, I can see myself picking Uranium up and playing it through again in a few years, possibly even more than once.
Final Score: 9/10

Farmers’ Frustration With Trump Grows as U.S. Escalates China Fight
By Alan Rappaport | Published Aug. 27, 2019 Updated 3:11 p.m. ET | New York Times | Posted August 27, 2019 |
WASHINGTON — Peppered with complaints from farmers fed up with President Trump’s trade war, Sonny Perdue found his patience wearing thin. Mr. Perdue, the agriculture secretary and the guest of honor at the annual Farmfest gathering in southern Minnesota this month, tried to break the ice with a joke.
“What do you call two farmers in a basement?” Mr. Perdue asked near the end of a testy hourlong town-hall-style event. “A whine cellar.”
A cascade of boos ricocheted around the room.
American farmers have become collateral damage in a trade war that Mr. Trump began to help manufacturers and other companies that he believes have been hurt by China’s “unfair” trade practices.
More than a year into the trade dispute, sales of American soybeans, pork, wheat and other agricultural products to China have dried up as Beijing retaliates against Mr. Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports. Lucrative contracts that farmers long relied on for a significant source of income have evaporated, with Chinese buyers looking to other nations like Brazil and Canada to get the commodities they need. Farm bankruptcy filings in the year through June were up 13 percent from 2018 and loan delinquency rates are on the rise, according to the American Farm Bureau.
The predicament of farmers is becoming a political problem for Mr. Trump as he heads into an election year. For months, farmers have remained resolute, continuing to pledge support to a president who says his trade policies will help the agricultural industry win in the end. While there are few signs of an imminent blue wave in farm country, a growing number of farmers say they are losing patience with the president’s approach and are suggesting it will not take much to lose their vote as well.
Mr. Trump, who regularly brags about an economic boom despite signs of a slowdown, has in some cases made matters worse. He recently dismissed sales of American wheat, suggesting Japan was buying it only as a favor to the United States. And his frequent tweets insisting that “farmers are starting to do great again” have rubbed some agriculture groups the wrong way.
“We’re not starting to do great again,” Brian Thalmann, the president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, told Mr. Perdue at the event. “Things are going downhill and downhill quickly.”
On Monday, after a 72-hour period during which Mr. Trump twice escalated his trade war with China, Mr. Thalmann said he could no longer support the president as he did in 2016.
“At some point we have to quit playing games and get back to the table and figure this out,” Mr. Thalmann said. “There’s no certainty to any of this.”
Losing the world’s most populous country as an export market has been a major blow to the agriculture industry. Total American agricultural exports to China were $24 billion in 2014 and fell to $9.1 billion last year, according to the American Farm Bureau. Exports of farm products to China fell by $1.3 billion in the first half of the year, the agriculture group said this month.
A report from the Agriculture Department this month found that Canadian wheat exports to China have “rocketed” this year, while exports from the United States have plunged.
The administration has tried to mollify farmers by rolling out two financial aid packages totaling $28 billion. The White House has also dispatched Mr. Perdue, the 72-year-old former governor of Georgia who was raised on a farm and trained as a veterinarian, to places like Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin to calm the nerves of farmers.
But as the trade fight gets uglier, farmers are beginning to panic. Last week, Mr. Trump said he would increase tariffs on $250 billion worth of Chinese imports to 30 percent and impose a 15 percent tax on another $300 billion worth later this year. China has already said it will no longer buy American agricultural products and announced on Friday that it would raise tariffs on $75 billion of exports from America.
That prompted Mr. Trump to describe Xi Jinping, China’s president, as an “enemy” and suggest that he wanted to raise tariffs even higher, before declaring on Monday that talks between the two nations continue.
The trade conflict’s toll on farmers is spreading to the manufacturers that serve them. Deere & Company, the maker of agricultural equipment, said this month that it was cutting its profit forecast for the second time this year. The company’s chief executive said farmers were delaying purchases because of concerns about access to export markets.
The administration is looking for other ways to help farmers, including scrambling to secure additional trade deals. At the G7 summit in France this week, Mr. Trump said the United States and Japan were nearing an agreement that would result in Japanese companies buying more American corn.
Mr. Trump is also trying to appease corn farmers who complain that an Environmental Protection Agency decision this month will hamper ethanol production. Farmers say the agency’s decision to exempt small oil refineries from a requirement to blend corn-based ethanol into gasoline has led to a drop in demand for the fuel.
Last Thursday, Mr. Trump summoned Mr. Perdue and Andrew Wheeler, who heads the E.P.A., to the White House to discuss options for increasing ethanol demand. The three came up with a package of policies that Mr. Trump plans to unveil at a White House ceremony in the next week, according to people familiar with the plan. The package would leave the waivers for ethanol refineries in place, while slightly increasing federal mandates for production of corn-based ethanol and biodiesel and allowing vehicles that use high-ethanol blends of gasoline to qualify for special E.P.A. credits.
Mr. Perdue is a somewhat unlikely lieutenant in Mr. Trump’s trade war. As Georgia’s governor, he worked to strengthen ties between the state and China, welcoming Chinese companies and making economic development trips to Shanghai and Beijing. At one point he pushed for Atlanta to become a hub for the Free Trade Area of the Americas, a proposed 34-country trade pact that never came to fruition.
“He’s a very strong supporter of free trade,” said Craig Lesser, who worked for Mr. Perdue as Georgia’s commissioner of economic development.
But in the Trump administration, Mr. Perdue has been a staunch backer of the president’s policies, publicly defending tariffs, working to shrink the federal government and expressing doubts about the science behind climate change.
“He’s the Trump whisperer,” said Neill Herring, an environmental activist in Georgia who once worked with Mr. Perdue in the State Legislature. “He can tell Trump exactly what he wants to hear.”
Mr. Perdue declined to be interviewed. His spokeswoman pointed to the extent of his outreach to farmers, noting that as of late July he had visited all 50 states, had traveled more than 113,600 miles and had gone to 104 farms since taking the job in 2017.
Mr. Perdue, who was once a Democrat, has also shown a penchant for pleasing conservatives. Last year, he pitched the idea of slashing federal food stamp assistance programs by partially replacing food allowance money for the poor with “harvest boxes” of pasta, cereal and canned goods selected by the government. That plan was eventually scrapped, but Mr. Perdue has continued his push to curtail food stamps this year, including last month when he proposed a rule that would cut three million people off from food stamps by changing the eligibility requirements.
Most recently, Mr. Perdue won plaudits from top White House officials for moving part of his agency out of town. After agency research clashed with the administration’s policy agenda, Mr. Perdue decided last year to relocate two of the department’s scientific divisions — the Economic Research Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture — to the Kansas City region from Washington. Mr. Perdue claimed that the relocation was not retaliatory and was about moving researchers closer to their subjects.
According to the American Federation of Government Employees, only about 100 of the approximately 500 employees from the divisions have agreed to relocate.
When Mr. Perdue addressed employees in June about the move, several stood and turned their backs to him, according to people who were in the room. Democrats have been outraged by the relocation, calling it an attack on science. And the Agriculture Department’s inspector general said in a report released this month that moving the research units without congressional approval might be illegal.
In the West Wing, however, Mr. Perdue’s decision was seen as a stroke of brilliance.
At the South Carolina Republican Party’s Silver Elephant gala in early August, Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff, hailed Mr. Perdue’s maneuver as a case study of how to “drain the swamp.”
“It’s nearly impossible to fire a federal worker,” Mr. Mulvaney said. “I know that because a lot of them work for me and I’ve tried and you can’t do it.”
At Minnesota’s Farmfest, it was clear that Mr. Perdue’s Southern charm could go only so far. His answers to questions about how the trade war with China would end were curt, and his quip about whining farmers left some with a sour taste.
“We shouldn’t have to whine to get paid,” said Joel Schreurs, a farmer from Tyler, Minn., who questioned Mr. Perdue at the event. “They should be grateful that we’re taking one for the team.”
Last week, Agriculture Department staff members in Nebraska left the Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour after receiving a threat from an angry farmer. According to an organizer of the event, farmers have been venting to the government employees who attended the annual tour about depressed crop prices, falling farm income and difficulty gaining access to credit.
“This is a stressful time in agriculture,” said Joel Jaeger, the general manager of Pro Farmer. “There’s certainly a lot of stress in the farm community.”
But many farmers continue to support Mr. Trump and express hope that the president knows what he is doing in his dealings with China. A July survey from Farm Journal found that 79 percent of 1,100 farmers still back Mr. Trump despite the lack of progress in negotiations with China. However, his support dropped to 71 percent in August.
For now, Mr. Perdue largely remains an effective emissary, with the industry still hoping Mr. Trump can pull off the kind of trade deal he has been promising.
“He’s one of us; he’s a farmer,” Brad Kremer, a Wisconsin farmer who is the treasurer of the American Soybean Association, said of Mr. Perdue. “I think he’s got a tough job in a tough administration.”
Coral Davenport contributed reporting.

How A Cachaça Distillery In Brazil Is Protecting The Future Of An Entire Industry
I fell in love with craft cachaça during my first visit to Bahia, Brazil. I found the flavors of tropical woods mingling with sugarcane complex and alluring, and after returning home I longed for the taste of the place where I had left a piece of my heart. Sadly, the cachaça available in the U.S. at the time was subpar, not even close to comparison. Today, craft-made cachaça is making inroads into in the U.S. market, but its rise in popularity has led some producers to think deeply about the longevity of the category.
Cachaças aged in native wood can be delicious expressions that showcase Brazil’s diversity, but they can also be fraught with issues that get to the core of the country’s challenge to balance business development with environmental preservation. At this year’s San Antonio Cocktail Conference Dr. Dragos Axinte, founder of Novo Fogo cachaça, presented on this important subject.
“In our industry, we see a lot of superficial attempts at sustainability, which often go only as deeply as needed to create marketing claims and packaging bullet points,” he said. “In the cachaça category, this manifests itself in many ways; one of them is the illegal harvesting of endangered woods for barrel making. Many producers select these woods because of their exotic and rare quality, which is highly marketable; the negative environmental impact of this choice is conveniently left out of the marketing materials.”
Almost all native Brazilian tree species used to make cachaça barrels are currently endangered and 85% of the original Floresta Atlântica, a region rich in biodiversity, has been cleared. Novo Fogo’s zero-waste distillery in Morretes, Paraná, is in the heart of this coastal rainforest, and the brand has been proactively repurposing American oak barrels and carefully vetting the companies from which they source wood and barrels. But their commitment to forest preservation goes beyond today’s needs and focuses on the future, with a reforestation project that aims to plant 10,000 endangered trees in a protected 42-acre private reserve. If these trees are not planted, the cachaça industry is at risk of contributing to further deforestation and environmental degradation in Brazil.

Yoonmin Fandom Metrics
Last month a survey was conducted to analyze the metrics of the Yoonmin fandom. Here are some of the responses:
Of these 903 responses, 826 of them (92%) of the respondents had selected that yoonmin are their only ship, their main ship or one of their main ships. This group is the one that will be focused on for the rest of this analysis. (Also was that one person lost? Did you get home okay?)
Of this focus group who mainly ship yoonmin, the bias distribution was:
Unsurprisingly, Min Yoongi and Park Jimin, the two individuals responsible for the YOON and the MIN in yoonmin, came out as the top two biases’.
However, Min Yoongi, with a staggering count of 453 votes (55%) heavily outweighed all the other members, hereby proving that he was in fact not fucking around when he claimed “Sorry mom, your son’s too popular,” in his Mic Drop verse.
As a follow up to these results, respondents provided their second bias (if any) to help the other members stand a chance against Rap God Min Yoongi.
(He still took a whopping 23% of the votes).
The most interesting part about these graphs is that it alludes to the fact that most yoonmin stans bias Yoongi (not Jimin, although he is obviously second in rank). This is probably due to the fact that of the “popular” bangtan ships, Jimin’s name comes up multiple times. Thus Jimin stans are more evenly split in who they ship Jimin with, but there are not that many “popular” Yoongi ships.
A little more detail on the focus group and how they came to stan bts and ship yoonmin is summarized in the following graphs.
BTS’ popularity has grown exponentially, with the greatest increase seen from 2014-2015 due to the release of their HYYH series. A parallel trend was observed in this analysis with the growth of the Yoonmin Fandom.
The next part of the survey focused on “Secondary Fan Creations” as Mr. Bang likes to call them. This includes but is not limited to: fan art, fan fiction, photo edits, video edits, blog posts, memes and so forth.
The results show that 99% of us are on Tumblr for the right reasons.
In terms of creating fan content, 31% of the respondents bless us on the daily with their contributions to the fandom. (Amen.) The rest of the majority enjoys and wishes to contribute to doing the lord’s work. 2% of the respondents who consider yoonmin their main or only ship do not create or want to create fan content because they think it is wrong (and that’s okay - to each their own).
The next question was the most revealing and one of the most important to this analysis. Of the 861 responses, 640 voted that the reason they ship yoonmin is due to their relationship / interactions themselves. Only 2-4% of the respondents said they shipped yoonmin because of how they look together/aesthetics, fan content, external influences, or the availability of yoonmin materials in the fandom itself. This outright disproves the common (and tired) anti-yoonmin stan (and “rare pair” stan) claims that yoonmin is usually shipped for these reasons.
Of the 30 respondents that chose “other” their reasons often eluded to specifics moments / interactions by yoonmin. Some of the more notable mentions are:
“They look like they understand each other’s struggles.“
“Their real and supportive friendship, they know each other's limits and share their vulnerabilities, so soft for each other, involve each other in the most intimate parts of their life.”
“Everything?? Idk they just vibe with me best, they're lovely and sift but also savage and have a really fun dynamic that i enjoy best.. they calm me when I’m upset as well which is like surprising bc I don’t calm down easily. +their soft moments like the earlier answer.”
“Because Yoongi is so whipped for Jimin and they look at each other like they have galaxies in their eyes“
“They look like they are real / they act like they are married / they honestly seem like they’re in love.”
“the way they are with each other in general. platonic or not, they love each other, care for each other a lot and it's nice to see. “
“From what I saw, it felt very real. Like yeah, I could get that super unbreakable bond with all of the BTS ships but for some reason, Yoonmin just stuck out for me and it felt really genuine and not just for fanservice.“
“Just...everything” (Many of you said this or voted for multiple categories from the above so everything x 10)
“You Know” (thank you Anonymous, I do know :’).
There were so many other great ones yoonmin is such a soft ship with even softER STANS istg but I won’t post them all here but you can see them in this supporting post.
It is commonly believed that ALL yoonmin stans only ship them because of the “typical” subby bottom jimin/ dom top yoongi stereotype. The data below proves this is untrue - as 34% of respondents don’t care at all or like all dynamics equally, and 18% prefer a more balanced switch relationship dynamic. Combined, the votes for these categories make up over 50% of the responses, signifying that, no, not all yoonmin stans, in fact not even the majority of yoonmin stans, ship them for this reason.
It should be noted though that, of the 48% of fans who expressed a preference for a specific relationship dynamic, 5% preferred top jimin and 43% preferred top yoongi (so yeah, top yoongi is more popular, but only to the minority group of the stans who actually have a specific dynamic preference).
Similar results were observed for which dynamics yoonmin stans feel are most realistic.

Vladimir Putin shaking hands with Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, in Moscow last month. Photograph: Sputnik/Reuters
Editorial: The Guardian View on Putin and The World: It’s Not Just About China
The Russian president may look isolated over Ukraine, but important players are hedging their bets
When Vladimir Putin recognised Donetsk and Luhansk as independent republics, days before his invasion of Ukraine, one of the most powerful denunciations came from Kenya’s envoy to the UN. Martin Kimani cited his country’s own history as he warned against irredentism and expansionism: “We must complete our recovery from the embers of dead empires in a way that does not plunge us back into new forms of domination and oppression,” he said.
On two general assembly resolutions – the first denouncing the invasion, the second blaming Russia for creating a humanitarian crisis – 140 or more nations have approved. Only four have voted with Russia to oppose them: a rogues’ gallery of Belarus, Eritrea, Syria and North Korea. Yet widespread condemnation, along with the west’s unexpected unity, should not be mistaken for Russian isolation. Having boasted of a relationship with “no limits”, and sharing a common interest in countering the global might of the US and Nato, China is now seeking to portray itself in a more nuanced light and avoid economic and political damage – but is not, in reality, distancing itself from Russia. Beijing is not alone. Few of the world’s most populous nations, and only a few leading players outside the west, have assailed Mr Putin.
Imran Khan, Pakistan’s prime minister, was in Moscow as the tanks rolled into Ukraine. India, which has a longstanding strategic relationship with Russia and high anxiety about its ties to both Pakistan and China, has discussed a “rouble-rupee” swap to help Moscow beat western sanctions. In Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro – courted by Mr Putin – even sees the war as a “good opportunity” to encroach on indigenous land in search of materials for fertiliser.
Russia’s influence in and dealings with the Middle East have expanded substantially since its decisive role in the Syrian war, leaving many countries hedging their bets, in the midst of a broader realignment of the region. Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, recently refused to take Joe Biden’s call – a week after speaking to Vladimir Putin. The UAE said no to a call too. It voted against Russia at the UN general assembly, where votes are non-binding and largely symbolic, but abstained in a similar vote at the security council, which would have had more weight. South Africa initially called for the withdrawal of Russian troops, but then blamed Nato expansion for the war. Sixteen other African nations joined it in abstaining in the first general assembly vote thanks to growing economic ties, as well as a long-established position of non-alignment and the Soviet Union’s support for liberation movements.
The war has triggered, not caused, a dramatic new phase in the long-term reshaping of our world. Trumpism has done more than China’s growing might to accelerate perceptions of US decline. Selective compassion and double standards have increased suspicion and rancour. Another illegal war – Iraq – looms largest. But many also note the contrast between the welcome outpouring of concern for Ukrainian refugees in Europe and widespread indifference or hostility to those fleeing other wars. Russia’s use of cluster munitions is rightly condemned, but Mr Biden has yet to reverse his predecessor’s decision to axe a ban on their use. Kenya’s righteous criticism of Russia’s aggression came with a pointed addendum: a condemnation of “the trend in the last few decades of powerful states, including members of this security council, breaching international law with little regard”.
Mr Putin’s current position reflects not only his willingness to aid unsavoury regimes, and his malign interference around the world, but also the sins and failures of the US and the west. To address these is not a hopelessly idealistic endeavour, but one of necessary realism, if we are to forge the powerful alliances needed against cruel acts of aggression.

Benefits of Dedicated Software Development Team Model
It's never simple to create or hire a dedicated software development team because its members work remotely and you don't know them before they start working for you. Yes, when a company lacks knowledge, the dedicated development model is a popular method in the IT business. However, most businesses are unaware of how it works.
This model is best explained through different steps:
The customer must specify his requirements in detail. The client must determine the number of people and technical capabilities necessary for his project.
The supplier assembles a dedicated team to meet the project's needs. For the course of the project, the team and the client agree on the workload and project needs.
The professionals form a team and begin working during regular business hours.
The client has complete control over the project and team management, with dedicated team services focusing on achieving the best results.
Benefits of a dedicated software development team model
Expertise in Technology
The key motivation for organizations to hire remote teams is to have access to global talent that is not readily available in-house. Such committed software engineers bring a plethora of technology expertise to the table, allowing businesses to solve any important business problem. You won't have to spend money on training or onboarding these new employees because they already have the necessary skills and expertise.
The fastest turnaround time
One of the most important reasons to employ a dedicated team is to complete your project quickly; as previously said, the DDT model is the greatest way to save time and money. For most tech and non-tech companies, this is the best solution. The finest aspect is that, despite the expedited delivery, the project's quality is never compromised.
Cost-Effective
Dedicated software services teams double your return on investment (ROI) on personnel investments. You may significantly reduce your operational costs by hiring dedicated teams from countries such as India, China, the Philippines, and Brazil to handle your IT job. You must pay four times less for the same task in your home zone when working with remote teams from certain regions. Costs associated with recruitment, onboarding, vacation, sick leave, insurance, office space rent, and office equipment upkeep can also be reduced.
Superior Control
You can not only select your team members while working with dedicated teams, but you can also stay in the loop by directing the workflow, suggesting changes, commenting, and rating individual team members. Multiple project management and communication solutions are available to help you with the responsibilities listed above. Dedicated teams provide 100 percent dedication, on-time delivery, and a streamlined workflow while eliminating administrative problems. You can quickly hand over authority to the on-site manager for a smooth project run if you don't want to intervene too much.
Flexibility
Because you will be making the majority of the decisions on your projects, one of the best things about a dedicated team is flexibility. Your business will determine whether you should speed up or slow down the procedure.
We hope this article has clarified what a dedicated team model is, how it works, and what advantages it provides to your company. If you have a difficult project in mind and don't know where to begin, contact us we are a mobile app development company in Atlanta, USA & India will explain the scope and objectives of your project, and we'll be pleased to talk about the requirements and assist you in forming a team with the abilities, knowledge, and experience that best meets your development needs.

What Is A kb Racking?
Building and managing a commercial property can be challenging, especially if you do not have years of industry experience behind you. That is why it is so important that you hire a company with years of experience in the industry to help you out. KB Racking provides just this type of expertise to you. They are one of the most popular names in the industry and have helped hundreds of companies to manage their properties successfully all over the country. Here are some of the reasons why you should consider using KB Racking for your next building project.
One of the most important things to know is how to properly mount your equipment and how to maintain it over time. With KB Racking, this is completely eliminated. Working with KB Racking s EkonoRacking was easy and straightforward. Not only did the mounting system work smoothly, but KB Racking project control provided exceptional customer service and support making them a go-to business for many commercial property owners.
The ability to mount your panels without worrying about issues with the equipment mounting itself was another great feature of the new, improved KB Racking research installation system. The pole-arm design of the pole arm allows the installer to easily adjust the height of the pole to allow the installation of any number of aluminum components. In addition, the ability to add on additional components after the pole arm has been mounted means that a growing business will not need to change the way they are handling their installation work at any point. This is important because of how the industry has changed over the years. No longer do you need to worry about adding in a second pole arm, or having the same roof solar mounting system on multiple properties.

When considering all of the benefits that came with installing the new KB Racking systems, it was only natural to wonder what all of the customers had to say. There was a wealth of compliments coming from every angle. From how easy the installation was to how fast the installations would take place, customers were extremely pleased. Many of the customers that contacted the company with questions about their products or with suggestions for improvements said that they would definitely recommend that they use the services that KB Racking offers. The customer service that they offered made it clear that no other company could come close to matching what they had to offer.
The ability to use any type of flat roofs ekonorack or any other type of flexible roofing with the KB Racking system was another big selling point. Flat roofs are ideal for any number of different applications including residential homes, commercial buildings and other types of businesses. Installing any type of rigid flat roof requires a professional installation job which can be very costly and can take a while. With the use of portable kbps solar installation, people are able to get their property on the market quickly and make a great investment in their home or business.
The way that the flat or flexible solar installation is installed is also a very important factor in the durability of the product. The ekonorack row spacing is very important for making sure that the equipment has enough room to house all of the equipment that is going to be installed. The row spacing is measured in inches and it is important to get an accurate quote from the supplier of your choice. Many suppliers offer free quotes on the size of the ekonorack and the number of rows that are available.
One of the best parts of the entire installation is the quality of the materials that the product is made out of. The material used on the surface of the device is actually the one that is clicked into place after the person purchases it. The best material to use is a heavy duty steel that is coated with powder coat or high gloss paint that can be easily cleaned after it is used. There are several different designs that can be offered to the customer depending on the size and location of the building that the equipment will be placed in. If the equipment is to be placed outside, then the design that can be chosen is one that is made to protect the equipment from any type of weather that could be found outside such as wind or rain.
When talking about the quality of the product, there are three very important features that the supplier of the click-in style of a racking should be able to mention. First of all, these units are constructed out of extremely durable wire. This allows the user to have very little to worry when placing the equipment in any type of climate. Another important aspect is that the unit comes fully assembled. In order to fully protect the equipment, the wire management and clamps are necessary to be installed properly and securely in order for the unit to come together and become a part of the home. Last but not least, when choosing suppliers of this type of merchandise, it is best to purchase the ones that are able to provide free lifetime warranties for any reason at all.
