Autistic Anime Boys Tournament Bracket

Heeey guys! It’s finally time for our next tournament! Get ready to pit all your favorite autistic anime* boys against one another~ 😈😈😈 The same rules as the autistic anime girls poll apply here, but I will reiterate them below.

*Note: I understand that the term ‘anime’ does not, semantically, apply to every character that I will allow into the poll—I am simply using the term in a general manner, because it is quick to say and widely recognized. Characters from print media (i.e. manga, manhwa, manhua), ‘anime-style’ webcomics and games/visual novels, and from non-Japanese East Asian animation like donghua and hanguk aeni are welcome as well.

No western media, unless the characters are deliberately designed in an 'anime-style’ (ex: in the past, I have allowed characters from things like DDLC). It can't be a temporary or one-off gag style-change either. It must be the series' regular artstyle. Judging this will be my subjective opinion, but I am going to be excluding animation that stylistically toes the line (sorry AtLA and VLD fans).

Don't submit Shigeo Kageyama from Mob Psycho 100. His autism swag is too powerful and iconic, so I've decided he will be the mascot of this tourney. The winner of the poll will be rewarded with a special exhibition match against Mob. 👍👍

ok continuing from my tags on the "what does your blorbo think of gay sex" poll. here's what i'm thinking about wrt james sunderland. it's my blog so i can put whatever i want on here so i'm just going to talk about this now.

first of all i've only played sh1&2, so if james turns up in other games i may change my opinion... well anyway

so normally when i think about characters i like, i default to them being bi because that is fun, but in the case of james, i think he is straight. i don't think this is something he's thought much about, because he is not a guy who thinks much about his sexuality. all that shit is repressed as hell. we know this. moving on

all that being said, i don't think james would be actively opposed to the idea of gay sex. it's just not something he would consider at all, under normal circumstances (/even if he didn't have a wife). james is, however, absolutely not in normal circumstances by the time we meet him. does this mean there is a plausible scenario involving james and gay sex?

you may have guessed where i'm going with this. the real question is: could pyramid head represent repressed homosexuality? (well, bisexuality?) pyramid head sure is juggling a bunch of symbolism, and ymmv on the specifics of that symbolism, beyond the obvious (that he represents the judgement & punishment james feels he deserves). it's pretty easy to argue that he also represents james's repressed sexuality as a whole (given the mannequin cutscene, the symbolic penetration of maria, you know what i mean). in both of these instances, he's also trying to cut away distractions so that james can get to his goal & to his final realization with clearer eyes. why does he do that in such a sexually charged way, though? uh... idk. let's see if i come up with an answer by the end of this post

you've also got the "is pyramid head meant to be sexy" question. well... he is definitely a muscular guy. his particular design on the ps2 version makes it kind of difficult to tell where his clothes and skin begin & end. i would argue this makes him less an object of desire and moreso something like a sexual rival for james. like - this sort of sexual hypermasculinity that james sees himself as distant from or weaker than. maybe he represents james's fear that his own instincts and his own wants from his relationships (not necessarily sexual wants) are ultimately predatory or harmful for the people he loves. (yay i did come up with an answer!) (also bookmarking this thought as i want to expand on it in another, better post)

coming back to the central (?) question of this essay (??). could james fuck pyramid head? is there enough thematic precedent for it? if he did... under what circumstances would that even make sense? it feels pretty clear to me that this would have to be an extension of a sex-as-punishment complex - james manifests pyramid head (sexual edition) to put him (james) in his place / establish dominance over him, thus validating his own feelings of weakness/helplessness and lack of control over things that happen in his relationships.

if pyramid head's whole goal is to get james to recognize his guilt about mary, though... i'm not sure. it feels like james would go into this whole thing as a distraction (but in a different way than how maria is a distraction - i legitimately do not think james would view sex with pyramid head as "real sex" ie. something that would count as cheating on mary). pyramid head, though... i think there's something to be said about the raw and tactile nature of sex. it could be kinda like their first fight: they rough each other up, and then PH leaves. PH would refuse to be anything permanent, and just leave james with lots of questions about what the hell he's doing here.

idk. many questions. it's very late and idk how much sense this makes. maybe i'll write a fanfic about this or something lmao

Anything to say to sway the voters?: “he has gone through so much trauma. his father died (canon is VERY ambiguous on this) anywhere from the ages of 4-10 IN FRONT OF HIM IN A VERY BLOODY WAY, and then being told by the dojo he wanted to learn from that he was ontologically evil for having dark intrusive thoughts about killing his father's murderer. he is very much affected by this to the point he struggles to improve his fighting style because he is so deeply traumatized, yet he continues to smile, be positive, and improve bit by bit because he doesn't want to be defined by his trauma solely. he hates seaweed but wants to eat it because he thinks it'll make his hair thicker. he hates vain men. handsome guys are his enemy (because he has crushes on them). he is very much implied bisexual: he has obvious crushes on female characters such as juri han in the shop descriptions and mai shiranui in snk vs capcom, where his characterization is fairly accurate to his street fighter alpha 3 and street fighter v characterizations, he has a Homoerotic Bond with blanka and legitimately seems to have a crush on guy, and has a crush on the very obviously nonbinary robot seth. he respects diversity, and we love a woke quing. yes, i said quing, because he has multiple lines throughout the street fighter series, and elements to his character, that suggest he is nonbinary in some way. he calls himself "the ultimate bijin", bijin being a gender neutral word for a beautiful person, in the japanese version of a shop quote where he outright says he'd look hot as a woman. he wears chinese schoolgirl uniforms and stockings. he knows six entire languages. he's based physically off of two cisgender men but his personality and mannerisms come from an 18-20 year old girl that he (at the time being 23 and her being 20) has ship tease with in crossover games. he's a thilf in spirit, and he's raising his 10-15 years younger sister that in my theory could've been his biological daughter through some sort of means. he taunt a canon character how to speak english, japanese, and thai again. he runs a failing dojo (we love a failenby quing). he doesn't know how to pay his electrical bills. he's ambiguously level 2 autistic and ambiguously bpd and ocd with all the major symptoms of cptsd. he's schrodinger's fat/fatbait (fat in clothes, weirdly muscular despite the dialogue that suggest otherwise shirtless). he offered to tutor a teenage girl in his fighting style simply so he could get more students and look cool to others but now she's his best friend and he's afraid of her abandoning him. he taught blanka how to be a man. he repeatedly performs good acts of kindness simply so he can stave off his intrusive thoughts that he's ontologically evil and to make his father proud. there's so much more i could say about him but he is a character of all time.”

having a blorbo is so funny. there's like more reasonable fun ideas to make aus for shuichi and then there's the Carrion au where shuichi is secretly worms. just take the monster worm colony that tore hundreds of people apart to escape a secret facility and give it an anxiety disorder, a guilt complex, and some friends.

(using kagehara and shuichi to differentiate between real shuichi vs worm imposter)(kagehara is still named saihara in universe)

Either in the killing game universe or non-killing game universe, kagehara would be killed by the worms and replaced by them with his in-game personality. No one really notices because kagehara has always been pretty reserved. his uncle may notice that something was different, but he couldn't figure out why.

Shuichi is very inexperienced at being a person but he slowly figures it out. He "joins" his class near the beginning of their second year at hopes peak. everyone else has their in-game personality but they didn't interact much with each other during the first year. kagehara had mostly wallflowered his way through, spending his social interaction points on online forums.

Now why would saihara want to keep stealing kagehara's life instead of wandering off, especially with his new found hatred/fear of humanity? Well, everything was new, pretty nice, and comfortable. He had food (no longer needed to eat humans as the only food source/out of "defense") that tasted good, a warm place to sleep, and he slowly forming bonds with his classmates.

Kaede would literally be his first friend ever after the school started assigning group assignments for the class to bond with each other. Shuichi would have to hide how quickly he can learn things (the worms learned a language in like one conversation in the comics) but he can excuse his smarts from being the ultimate detective.

I'm thinking too much about this. giving this the overly long title of "would you still love me if i was a worm?" Someone would text him that meme and he would nearly have a heart attack about being found out.

oh god, I just realized that Gonta would go insane. moral dilemma if he finds out shuichi is worms. his friend killed hundreds of people to escape a lab but also he is a worm colony and now gonta is friends with a walking-talking worm colony. Gonta would be shuichi's biggest defender after the reveal because he knows that shuichi is nice now and that he was barely sentient when people hurt him (killed parts of his colony).

shuichi would get minor maki parallels, but shuichi killed people to save himself while maki killed people to save her orphanage. Maki had a sense of morality while shuichi did not at the time. so on and so forth.

Kokichi would be highly suspicious of shuichi, he could tell that he was no longer kagehara. he was shy and awkward but open to people interacting with him whereas kagehara kept to himself.

Shuichi has a huge phobia of fire. Miu probably illegally builds a flamethrower to do something cool for a project and shuichi quietly leaves to have an anxiety attack outside.

After he spends quite a bit of time becoming friends with his classmates, the guilt would start to eat him alive. The things that hurt him, that he killed, must have had their own lives that ended by his hand. He wasn't even the real kagehara, shuichi murdered him and stole his life. Kagehara was just a teenager like his friends.

And man, if shuichi was put in the killing game, he wouldn't even remember he was worms until a much later flashback light reminded him. imagine forgetting that you're a terrible monster that could easily kill your friends around you and while being a difficult colony to kill. alternatively he finds out later when someone tries to murder him and he escapes through a vent by seperating into worms and then reforming. And then he's like "what am I!?"

what if tsumugi just didn't know? "what the hell just happened, who put a horror monster in my horror game?"

"worms in my killing game? it's more likely that you think."

1, 2, and 21 for Beyond!

Hiii Isa!!! Thank you for the ask! 🥰

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

He has everything. Obsession. Vengeance. Trauma. He's doomed by the narrative. He's a freak. He's a fake. He's a funhouse mirror for the most beloved blorbo in this fandom. His very existence raises so many questions about L, the successors, Watari and Wammy's House and I'd go as far as to say his existence gives them all dimension. The destructive nature of Mello's rivalry with Near is the first implication we get that the existence of Wammy's House as an institution and by extension, Watari and L, may not be an unequivocally good thing after all. There are risks and consequences. Beyond Birthday takes that implication and makes it an observable fact and from there the possibilities are endless.

Death Note does not address Watari's motivations or ethics nor the ethics or efficacy of someone like L having the incredible unilateral power and influence that he does, which is a shame because it's such an interesting angle to approach the story from.

I have seen people say they don't like the addition of Wammy's House or dislike what the LABB adds to the story if you don't just handwave it as a spinoff. I get that. Wammy's House is about as unrealistic a concept as the existence of L himself so it can feel superfluous. For me, the LABB makes the mythos surrounding L more believable. Are we meant to believe all was well in the creation of this superhero figure? I can't, so the LABB makes sense in that regard...it represents the collateral damage of such an unrealistic endeavor. It's too much power and too large of a burden to rest on any single person. However, if you're invested in a particular characterization of L, Watari, the successors and their relationships or upbringing before reading the LABB (especially if those characterizations are on the wholesome side), the LABB might fly in the face of all that. (Though, if they went through with making Mello and Near L's KIDS instead I would've fucking hated that. He would NOT DO THAT.) Anyway, it is ultimately a spinoff so people are welcome to dismiss it on those grounds. If I'm being completely honest though, the LABB is what gives the successor side of the story the depth and stakes that make it truly compelling for me. I LOVE the successors in the main material but we just don't get enough of them! The LABB gives them more context even if I refuse to accept Mello's goofy ass narrative voice in the novel (I just don't think he talks like that, but. Hey. Maybe he does. Mello understanders weigh in!) Anyway sorry this got so long and off topic, my point is that I love everything about him but what I love most of all is that he's an entire story in and of himself. If he exists every character he's even tangentially related to gets another dimension, a fucked up dimension and I'm into that shit.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Beyond Birthday represents extremes to me. Obsession, imitation, competition - he takes everything farther than anyone else, too far, in pursuit of his goals. He wipes down his crime scenes to the lightbulb sockets. When he decides to challenge L, he's not even interested in living to see the fruits of his labor. His selfhood, his body, his life are reduced to tools he uses to undermine L, and he views Naomi Misora the same way. You can see this in how he speaks about her as Beyond Birthday, rather than Rue Ryuzaki:

I don't think this is just him underestimating Naomi, I think this is him being so obsessed with L and their 'game' that he reduces everyone and everything to their role in that construct. His victims and himself included. Besides that, we see an incredible amount of self-awareness here. He understands the impression he makes as Rue (a freak), he actively curates his mannerisms (down to his laugh) and flat out tells us how detached he is from his own ego when he says: "There are things I must do before B can surpass L." With this context it's not hard to understand how he successfully convinced the families of his victims to hire him to solve their murders. Rue Ryuzaki is just another piece in this game and arguably, so is B...and they can and will be changed and discarded as the game requires. We see the man rifle through an underwear drawer, crawl around the floor, and listen in on someone in the bathroom...there is no shame, no limit, nothing that deters him from his goal, even his own self-destruction. B truly is an extreme freak, even pretending to be an extreme freak to that extent makes him an extreme freak in and of itself, and that's my favorite canon thing about him.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Oh man, I LOVE writing dialogue for B...my characterization of him is dramatic and provocative and often verbose. He is here to get a reaction out of you, full stop. I think that's why I enjoy roleplaying with him, there is so much joy in forcing other writers to put up with him always trying to fuck with everyone. I love coming up with elaborate schemes for him to try and pull off for the same reason - the feeling of coming up with something so harebrained that even I wish Beyond would use his cleverness for something productive is so satisfying. Additionally, getting into his head and trying to untangle and express his...fucked up, often self-contradictory reasoning, thoughts and feelings without him ever willingly opening up about any of that is a fun challenge. As far as what I don't like...well, it's mostly self-inflicted but as fun as writing B is, I also feel a lot of pressure to get it right. B will want to take charge of any given situation or dynamic; he is fearless, capricious and extreme. There is not much if anything I would past him... so I often wonder if I'm going far enough. I never want my own limitations to get in his way and I think so much and so deeply about this fucker it sometimes feels like I'll never actually be able to properly express those ideas. For example, despite all of my ranting and pondering about B's inner world, in my one published fic, On Killing, Curiosity & Cats, it's mostly L's feelings and internal monologue I am explicit about (even though I am not at all an L expert). It felt easier, or perhaps safer, to show and imply things about B rather than state them outright. Writing him feels like a delicate balancing act, especially if I'm going to publish it! Sometimes Beyond Bitchboy just feels bigger than me.

hey did you know new homestar runner toon? Like today? One day before valentimes? Guess they aren't celebrating homestar and Marzipan getting together officially, huh? Admittedly I’ve saved all the incredible artwork my fic received over the course of my writing it, but yours genuinely have a very special place in my heart as some of the first and last I ever received. I still recall opening my inbox and seeing the notification the first time; it was so surreal to me that people would draw anything based on my works. Your art of Tommy and Techno sitting back to back, as well as your art of the forest trio at the end, serve almost as mental book-ends for me; I return to them often just to admire it, and to remember how happy it all made me. I can hardly believe it’s been more than two years, goodness.

First is Cave by Cody Fry! I wanted an instrumental to start it off and a song to represent the explosion of Manburg; I think this song serves that purpose well!

Half-Mast by Branches is a song I use in my other dsmp related playlists to represent Doomsday but it works so well in this context

Casualty by Hidden Citizens & Tash is just absolutely perfect for Tommy. The scene of him screaming out in grief surrounded by the rubble that used to be his home- waaa it’s so good, both the song and scene

Sorrow by Sleeping at Last is for Tommy slowly learning how to live after the explosion (or at least learn how to function again :[ pobrecito..)

The Corner Dwellers by The Vocal Few is a Techno and Tommy song! It simply reminds me of them :’]

To Forgive or to Kill by Bear McCreary was chosen mostly for the title and the fact that it was from the God of War soundtrack skdhdhdh Incase you’re unfamiliar with the game, this song plays during a scene where one of the main characters is debating on whether to forgive or kill another character but ultimately realizes that she can’t do either. So naturally I thought this song would be good for when Tommy saves Schlatt from Technoblade! I’d like to have more instrumentals in this playlist but we shall see,, I’m very picky when it comes to instrumentals skdjddj

Carnivore by Bear Attack! Ok I might replace this song with something else later since it reminds me of c!Tommy and c!Dream’s relationship more than Tommy and Schlatt’s from WWHWI. But it’s works for now! Something to represent their first argument chat after the whole getting locked up bit

Marble Floors by Vian Izak & Juniper Vale is here to sorta represent Tommy longing for his life before the explosion and when he still had Tubbo.

Drown by Seafret is for when Tommy gets blown up by the creeper. Just that scene where it starts off as a dream sequence then slowly twists until he’s suddenly shocked back into reality— GOSH it’s so good. And then the crisis he has afterwards when he bandages himself up, it’s probably my favorite scene. It’s so well done and makes me feel so much ;;;;;

Battling Life by The Dunwells is for Technoblade!! (And a little for Tommy too, now that I’m looking at the lyrics again) Gosh, the man gets injured but he doesn’t let that stop him from taking care of things and taking care of Tommy. You captured his perseverance and stubbornness perfectly :’]

Blood Upon the Snow by Hozier & Bear McCreary! Here I go, to shamelessly smoosh two of my interests together again skdhdj This song is also for Technoblade but more for his exhausted god-ness you characterize him with. (Atleast I think he’s a god in WWHWI? Or is he just a well known champion? Immortal? My memory sucks, I’ll have to find out when I reread it) This song is just super cool and reminded me of technoblade and is part of the reason why I started making this playlist skdjdjjd

Sirens by Oliver Daldry, I may be wildly misinterpreting this song for this playlist but SCREW IT it reminds me of them okay

This repeating lyric serves as a little nod to the fact that this is an au. How Techno, Tommy and Schlatt would have all been strangers in this world if certain circumstances didn’t lead them to eachother

This bit reminds me of Schlatt @ Tommy, I don’t think he ever outright asks for forgiveness but in time they both find some peace with eachother.

All three of them are so different from eachother but they still care for eachother :’]

The Cave by Mumford & Sons acts as a sort of summary of this story to me! I imagine the first verse is from Techno’s pov, the second is from Tommy’s, and the last is from Schlatt’s.

This bit changes meaning depending on the pov. For Techno it’s him taking care of Tommy, ‘changing his ways’ yknow, or atleast adding the family role to his list of titles.

For Tommy it’d be him taking care of Techno, “finding strength in pain” and learning to move forward despite everything that’s happened

And for Schlatt it’s for him rushing out to help Tommy and Techno during the final battle. Man doesn’t even hesitate :’D

Gosh and just the line “I’ll know my name as it’s called again”. All three of them grew into people they never thought they’d be!! And despite a huge part of their lives is shaped from tragedy they’re okay in the end. It was far from easy but they’re okay. And that’s just so comforting yknow? This story is so comforting and beautiful and raw and I just love it with all my being ;;;;;

I put this under a cut because it ended up being a litter longer and I don't want to just put a wall of a post on someone’s dash. So, in no particular order, my comfort characters are:

Nero (Devil May Cry)

It was a head to head race to the finish line between Nero and Vergil but I ultimately picked Nero simply because I can relate to him more. Absent fathers, not a whole lot of friends growing up, more or less ignored/disliked by most people around you, wacky uncles. I just like him a lot. And if I keep talking, I might dive into some very personal stuff that I’m not necessarily comfortable discussing openly.

Princess Zelda (Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom)

*quick disclaimer: I won’t mention anything about TotK here because it’s only been out for little over a week and I don’t want to spoil anything for people who haven’t completed the game yet*

Boy, where do I even start? Zelda spends the majority of her childhood and teenage years under extreme pressure to awaken her bloodline’s abilities and while she understands that it’s important, she just wants to study the ancient Sheikah tech. She wants to do what makes her happy but can’t because the entire world depends on her. Which leaves her severly stressed and if that isn’t a mood and a half I don’t what is. Wanting to do something you love but not being able to. While this is not my favourite incarnation of the character (that honour goes to Skyward Sword Zelda), she is definitely the one I understand the best in terms of stress and heavy expectations.

Erik (Dragon Quest 11)

Words cannot express how much I love Erik. He’s literally the best character in the entire game. His arc is amazing and heartbreaking. He is there from almost the beginning and stands with the main character without question, leaving behind his life of crime for not entirely altruistic reasons at first but staying because he really does want to help. I love how he rolls with the punches, looks at all the weirdness of a JRPG and goes ‘this is so weird, you know that? But we’re doing it anyway’. And he is a real doofus at some points. 

(I also happen to ship him with the MC).

Natural Harmonia Gropius (Pokémon Black/White, Black2/White2)

Ok, here we are. My OG blorbo. The one I’ve had for far longer than the others. This man has been living in my head rent free ever since I first played Gen 5. At the core of his being, N just wants to do good and help pokémon, protect them from abuse but the man who raised him just uses him for his own gains and made him think that all pokémon who are not living in the wilds away from humans are being mistreated. Over the course of the first game, he begins to understand that this might not be as true as he thought it was through his friendship/rivalry with the player character and seeing how much their team loves them. Then years later, N is able to stand up to his father and not only saves the new protagonist from being killed but also helps to end Team Plasma’s plans for good (more or less anyway, his arrival did enable part of the climatic battle). Also, he can literally talk to pokémon and understand them. I just adore his development over the games so much.

And last but not least, I’m gonna cheat a little and include an OC of mine because you can’t stop me

Morgan Julian Hale (D&D, and so many other things at this point)

Morgan started out as my very first dnd character and has since then cemented himself as a personal favourite, having been put into a lot of my favourite worlds over time. When I wrote his original backstory, I didn’t realise how much a self-insert I made him. I only figured that out when a friend literally pointed it out to me. Morgan was raised by a single mother, is a social outcast and not really a people person. Give him a book and he’ll be good for the rest of the day, leave him around people and he’ll shut down faster than you can blink. The last part being incredibly funny when considering that he’s a sorcerer, a class that uses the charisma stat primarily. He’s also being hunted by a cult that wants his magical dragon blood. I don’t know what part of my psyche is represented by that and at this point I’m too afraid to ask. (Also, the picrew didn’t have an option for pointed ears but just fyi, he’s a half-elf)

Honourable mentions: obv Vergil who just barely didn’t make it, Byleth from Fire Emblem - Three Houses and Dorian Pavus from Dragon Age Inquisition.

Aside your wolship have you like other ship in ffxiv? npc/npc or wol/npc??

I don't ship any of the rest of the Squad; I used to vaguely have something for Alakhai before I realized that felt incredibly wrong for her (she is aro/ace, and in this case a relationship really did not fit how I was developing her) and gently retconned it away (easier because I'd never written any fic for it). Rereha (aro/bi) has some fuckbuddies but I don't consider any of that to be proper "shipping." Heron (bi/ace) is not-so-secretly a huge romantic but I have no ships with her; she's the one most likely to get a ship in the future if there's ever an NPC I feel would make for a good match. She tends to aggressively adopt people as new siblings, though, so the chances of this are slim. XD

Absolutely love other people's wolships of course, including other Aymeric-shippers! A lot of folks in my FC and friends circle like to write their pairings or do screenshots or both and it's so much fun seeing everyone's creativity and how they interpret their preferred NPC and ugh. Good stuff. So hell yes to shipping my friends' WoLs with their blorbos. :)

NPC/NPC...I like Cid/Nero because the "skipped straight to being divorced" will never not be hilarious, but it's been years and I still don't know if they were ever a romantic couple in Squadverse, Rere's teasing to get Nero riled up aside. Lucia/Hilda, obviously, though I'm still feeling both characters out so as much as I'd like to write more for them, I'm still basically rotating that pairing like a rotisserie chicken in my head and Pondering how they got together in Squadverse. Otherwise, I don't really ship characters; if there's really nice art of something, I'll like it and throw it in my queue, and if I'm intrigued by a fic summary and tags on AO3 while browsing I may give something a click, but there’s nothing I’m ever really actively looking for.

And like, even though my WoLship is obviously something I really enjoy a whole hecking lot, it's but one really small aspect of my enjoyment of FFXIV. The game's theme of found family (the Scions!! my family!!! I love them!!!!!!!!) is something I adore, and I'm most happy playing in the sandbox of worldbuilding and friendship when it comes to finding the niche from which I take the most enjoyment in this fandom. Shipping is fun but ultimately for me, it's tertiary.

OKAY SO first off (and a surprise to no one) luke skywalker is my ultimate blorbo. my special guy. and it’s funny cause i grew up knowing of star wars, watching the movies with my older siblings, but i never really cared about it- it wasn’t until years later i even thought about watching the movies again and it was only because my sister pressured me into watching the mandalorian and i fell in love. and then i decided to rewatch the original trilogy and that was it. the movies just found me at such a perfect spot in my life to really dig into my brain and not let go- it was year two of the pandemic, i had no friend whatsoever and a day to day that just left me feeling dull, ya know? and then all of the sudden there were these old movies about hope. about being able to become more than the sum of your parts. there was luke. luke really just embodies that feeling of hope that i was so without. and i think it’s those set of circumstances and then me just being a big science fiction/space nerd in general really made luke my perfect star wars blorbo. and then add dinluke into that!!! i could go on and on about dinluke (and i have) but fundamentally i think it’s the dynamic of these two powerful people who carry these two, seemingly opposing ideals coming together and finding that they have more in common and more to offer each other than either ever thought they’d receive is just *chefs kiss*

MOVING ON TO katniss everdeen! my first and forever blorbo. i know i don’t hunger games post here a lot but thg and katniss were both really big parts of my development. the hunger games introduced me to fandom and fanfic and katniss introduced me to the mindset of never giving up. no matter when you feel like you already have, you never give up. that small acts of bravery are just as important as big ones. she inspired me to stick up for myself and feel courageous, to shoot a bow and wear my hair in a braid far too often. to look out for those i love with all i can give. i love her strength and her wit and how she is smart and so dumb and young all at the same time. and her and peeta as a couple i think just really set the standard of love to me. like after everything, all the fighting and death, they choose to live for each other. they help each other live for themselves. that you don’t have to be someone else when your with the right person. that you can be vulnerable and ask real or not real?

NEXT IN LINE is mickey milkovich from shameless. i am rotating him around in my mind CONSTANTLY. its safe to say that he was my favourite character on the show and his penchant for crime, swearing and anger really struck a chord with me. he’s a character that feels so much but is rarely given the chance to express it. he’s constantly going against the odds and trying to do what’s right. it may not be right, or legal for that matter, but it’s still what he believes. he’s a character that’s gone through so much pain and suffering and is still able to flip off the world. he gives me the confidence to say fuck you to people who are treating me poorly and smile because i know that the parts of me they judge and think are weak are the parts that make me swing back harder. he’s violent, he’s gross, he’s pathetic and he’s one tough motherfucker and shit if getting to see him get a happy ending, get to be out and to get someone who loves him as he is for all those reasons didn’t make me hope id get that one day too. (DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED OF GALLAVICH. REALLY DONT. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THEY ARE A GOD TEIR OTP AND NOBODY DOES IT LIKE THEM ALL THE OTHER SHIPS OUT THERE DONT EVEN COME CLOSE)

NOW WE HAVE nadja from what we do in the shadows! what can i say about nadja apart from the fact that she is simply, and always will be, the vibe. i am holding her in my hand and she will bite my palm and then maybe kiss me a bit. i am obsessed with her. she deserves it. but more than that!! nadja is just so unapologetically herself and her ambition and humour are unmatched, but she also has such a sweet soft side that i can’t help but just scream and cry and throw things around my room. she is also a vampire and that is so fucking cool. she’s a leader, she’s a dumbass, she’s going to rip people throats out and honestly? she’s everything i want to be when i grow up. and her and lazlo are just goals. like the speech he gives about not caring about what anyone thought about her when he married her because none of that mattered to him like she did?? dead. im dead.

AND LASTLY a newer blorbo entering the ring- jamie tartt from ted lasso! now, i will gleefully admit i hated jamie through season one and much through season two but holy shit did ted lasso pull off a redemption like nothing ive ever seen before. really and truly, i did not expect to connect with jamie as much as i did. the last season but the character growth and storylines they gave him that shed some light onto why he was the way he was and how they connected so many things in with the earlier seasons that just made you see things in an entirely different way??? like he’s still a cocky prick, but he’s a cocky prick you can’t help but love and cheer for. and the scene where he tells roy that he’s just anxious and tired all the time really fucking hit home for me, even when they did end up playing it off as a bit of a joke, i just felt that moment so deep in my bones and funny little manchester-man jamie earned himself a spot in my brain.

Jokes aside, he never confided in his supposed friends about his less than selfless motivations, thus missing the opportunity to let them stir him away from his selfishness. Maybe if they had discussed it over the years, the battle of Shiganshina would have played differently, perhaps he would have even gotten earned the serum.

brOTP The obvious answer seems to be Levi, but I’m not sure he had any true friends. Relations, perhaps, but I don’t see him drunk at 3 am bemoaning how he let Marie slip away while Hange and Mike pat his back. He’d seem a good friend, he would hold Nanaba’s forehead while she pukes after a night out, but if they all stopped and thought about it they wouldn’t find any instance of Erwin sharing some deep shit about himsef or his past.

random headcanon I can envision a dark!Erwin scenario in which he likes to groom a young cadet and make them his pet. In my mind he’s either too prim and proper when it comes to sex (straight missionary, little foreplay, whoring ok to get a blowjob bc that’s not proper for a decent woman) or a total predator, I’ve no middle ground. (remember that scene when he whispers something to Mina Carolina? Creepy af.)

unpopular opinion IDK how much it ranks in terms of unpopularity but I think he’s not a nice person. He may have been in his youth but I think ultimately his obsession with proving his dad right ate the goodness he once had. Of course, that ruthlessness paired with his impeccable demeanor is what allowed him to get where he did. As sad as it is, it does take a monster to get shit done in the big scheme of things. At least he’s a handsome, well-mannered monster.

favorite picture of them I like "The" smile panel in the manga as it's a rare occasion in which Erwins always composed demeanor falls and reveals the real him. That said, if there’s something good to be said about Erwin is that he’s a pretty handsome guy. He gives off a very masculine vibe, and has a natural elegance about him, and which makes for great fanart out there (which I appreciate usually for the Levi attached to most of those arts LOL).

Greory's Supports with Alear shows him worrying that Alear will be used! (;A;) Finally, his notebook page says "Gregory is the Older Brother type". Basically the Divine Dragon told me my instinct was right, who am I to argue with a god? Looool.

I took things about Alear and just... tilted them a little:

-Alear became a Divine Dragon through Lumera's adoption? Lueur is Lumera and Sombron's child. Yeah. >:3c Even in parallel Elyos (Para Elyos) it's a big WTF. Lumera has passed and Sombron ain't talking. Also, he chose not to have any more children after Lueur. No in-story explanation. Still a complete shitbag of a father though.

-Incessant titles! "The Divine Dragon! ❤️" (please just say Alear!)---> "Hey, Loony Lu-Lu (derogatory)". Watched the Xenologue siblings for the vibe.

-Despite being born half-Divine and half-Fell, Lueur's Fell powers came out first. The Divine Dragons called him a *defect* for that. Lumera was leaving with little Lueur to see the Eastern Dragons when they got ambushed and she died protecting him.

-Alear has friends to do Wake-up Duty? Lueur has Gavril/others to do Sleep Duty, bc Bad Things happen in Elyos when Lueur Sleeps too deeply... and when he wakes up too fast...

-Alear's afraid of Corrupted to the point of triggers? Lueur makes near flawless and *powerful* Corrupted. It's the one thing all his family agrees about for him. But when he makes more than three? Instead of having a mindless army, Lueur's mind gets lost, he's too deeply involved in the process to stay coherent or command anyone. He's useless that way. At least, if anyone cares about Lueur surviving the process afterwards...

-Also, being born to Divine Dragons but then raised as a *Fell* Dragon? (Yeah I watched FE Fates, that irony was delicious!)

- Sombron saw power in Lueur as a child but you can bet he's bitter that he took in the other side's defect. And took it out on Lueur.

-Ultimately, Sombron considers every child of his a *disappointment* in one way or another. Lueur is the only one who is both disappointment and *defect* though.

-Sombron also got kneecapped in the last war and is nursing his wounds. So his children have had run of the house Gradlon for the last 1000 years.

-To the point Lueur used to call Diamant Demir, his oldest brother, "Papa" for a few years before Sombron's visits and training. And if anyone thinks that Big Brother won't use that to his advantage...

-Divine and Fell Dragons live in uneasy but functioning diplomatic relations. Gavril's bestie on the Divine side is...Prince Nil. *cackling*

-Worship, prayer, offerings and devotion (from love or fear) have a real effect on Dragon powers in Para Elyos. I couldn't see the effect of it in-game other that social rules, so it's a little tweaked here. Cue multiple Fell cults instead of just to Sombron!

-there are Emblems, but they're used more against Dragons bc they're kind of OP already??I'm not familiar with FE as a whole, so I'm speedrunning so many FE Let's Plays on YouTube. RIP my sleep schedule 😭😭😭

-Lueur's only bright spots of happiness comes from being around regular people: helping out, protecting. As long as he doesn't use dragon powers, he's accepted by most people. He's still so very shy and stilted when it comes to people who aren't Gavril. He is loved, he just doesn't believe he's worthy of it... *quietly sobbing*

-One Divine Dragon that likes traveling and being around regular people is Lady Veyre. When she meets Lueur, they hit it off... And they're not siblings in this world! *cough Romeo and Juliet*.

AU Lueur has grown up knowing: his Divine family fears him, his Fell family consider him a potential tool for their own goals, his own powers kill others/create fear/drive *him* mad. And he's the youngest of several ambitious siblings --that's about to have a succession crisis, courtesy of Father of the Year, Sombron.

I cannot wait to crack this AU story open. The sibling dynamics alone... with power and agenda behind them too.

Except Gavril: Miss him with that shit, he's here to point and laugh. But anyone tries anything on his baby brother, he'll skin 'em alive with his teeth.

Plus, the story got so big that Rafal is one of the secondary POV characters. Who else is going to tell Alear to wait, don't trust this Lueur guy just because he's an alternate YOU, he's still a Fell Dragon that's twice the reckless curiosity and heroics are you even listening--!

There will be unfriendly fire! And maybe some Rafal whump, how well can he dodge Divine war magic while flying, for uh, reasons...? *cough*

So, my au? *sweating* it started with a troll thought, "What if Gregory had been born one of Alear's siblings? They would be Fell (fail) Dragons together, lol." BUT! Past!Alear deserves to have his sibling relationships! Then I thought, "it would be so fucked up bc of Sombron." BUT what if Sombron wasn't able to completely control his children the way he did in Main and Xeno Elyos?

Also, I'm satisfied with past!Alear's canon portrayal, but wanted to explore his personality and possible relationships if he had his siblings. Hence Lueur the Loony, the Loser, the *defect* (beloved), my target (with Alear) of so much pain and comfort and emotional/physical whump!

It snowballed from there. I had so much more written but my phone ate it. 🥲 I can certainly throw open the floodgates of squee in the morning, if you still have the time. Thank you for your ask!

Hello, I’m Hesperos! Aside from being a writer, I’m also an artist and worldbuilder. I currently live in the United States. My pronouns are they/them, and I consider myself both transgender and non-binary.

Of all the genres, I enjoy fantasy most, followed by sci-fi. I worldbuild and create conlangs as a hobby, though one day I hope to turn it into a career path.

I love both Rei and Tsurugi! That said you know that post that goes in the vibe of “I give shout outs to people who can deeply analyze their favorite characters because when I try to articulate when I feel for them it just descends into a mess of scribes and pointing excitedly and happily at “blorbos!!!””? It is how I feel towards them in the sense that while I love them, my thoughts go “!!!!! Rei!!! Tsurugi!!!! Yes!!”

That said I am gonna just throw thoughts out and see how they stick and if they come out articulated. I am usually better able to form thoughts into words if I am given a specific direction. I may have more specific thoughts but when asked in general I just go “words hard” and it will probably come out in a disorganized way.

Rei section

She!! One of my favorites from Another1!

I really love her character and character development on the game. I like the contrast of “Teacher” ultimate talent (which gives the impression of a guide, mentor sort of personality) VS Rei no-nonsense, rude, strong, loner, confident(at first bordering on arrogant) type personality. And then her development! As she gets shocked out of her bubble in chapter 4 by Satsuki and comes to acknowledge her and believe her, and then does her best to make everyone survive, becoming a leader figure to them, both in keeping everyone together and helping to plan to escape that place.

Then on Another 6.5, we are shown her as still a confident, intelligent, strong person but with a more caring side and who isn’t afraid of bonding with people, and who is able to be a figure of reassurance to the victims in 6.5, and how it showcases that for all that Another ended on a somber note, She, Teruya and Tsurugi did tried and succeeded into making a organization that wanted to protect/save people, and was able to do so in chapter 6.5 with the relatives of the class. I just. Wow it was really touching and a amazing trajectory of character development.

I really loved the way she seemed to be the “Byakuya” of the game (as well as the “Kyoko” in a very minor way), and how her development went in its own unique way.

I really love how smart she was and how much she could resourceful as well she was and how this is shown on the reader in the Kinji incident, her noticing Kinjo strategy, the teddy bear device, and others that don’t come to mind now. And even on how she is the first person who when in the chapters 5 and 6 tries to be as unbiased as possible to arrive at the truth, in chapter 5 she carefully considers and talks about the possibilities of “Yuuki is the murderer” and then “Mikako is the murderer” and, it is only due to Monokuma forcibly ending the trial too soon, that she isnt able to figure out. However even when she arrives on “Mikako is the murderer” she notes there is something very strange there and that Monokuma is acting way off. In chapter 6, she is the one who was the fastest at facing the possibility of something being off about Yuuki.

My heart goes out for all of the hints on how the survivors (She, and Teruya and Tsurugi) made a strong friendship. And then the pain when Another 2 happens. And how it all falls apart when Teruya dies and the grief she passes! the pain! And how she has to keep it all on hold due to if she falls apart, then they might not be able to save Yoruko and Yuki. I do appreciate that it is shown how hard she took Teruya death, especially when you compare chapter 6 to 6.5, and how she loses her cool when it comes to Tsurugi attitude.

Speaking of Another2, I also really love the way that she was still resourceful and doing her very best to save people from the Voids, and was the one person to successfully break into the simulation thrice (prologue + surviving; the photo ; chapter 4). And then her reassurance to Yoruko and Sora, and how she gave them hope of being able to maybe save Sora’s life in the future.

Overall, She is one of my favorites of Another, I especially appreciate how her character development arc goes and she is consistently brilliant and resourceful, and how she, honestly, is really a joy to watch every time she has screentime.

I also really love to ponder how the friendship the survivors developed and how they went on to building their lifes and the Kisaragi foundation. And how they would possibly interact with the chapter 6.5 gang, and Another2 survivors.

Oh! And another factor is that I really love to think on how Rei’s relationship with Satsuki (Especially how different she is from Rei, but how, though chapter 4, Rei came to incredibly admire Satsuki and see her in a new light, and how she moves Rei into coming with her resolve to stop her loner actions and take active steps into trying to get out with everyone. Just! There is so much going on there! Just! And then thinking on an AU where Satsuki and Rei interact post game and how that would be, and the possible friendship or other that could come from there, how they both could come to admire each other traits, and how maybe even if Rei got annoyed at Satsuki sometimes, she would sometimes also have some fun with her. Just! Chapter 4 had given shook me with just! So much things to think about them!! The !!! differences !! the way!! The!! Dynamic!!! The development!!! The admire!! The possible friendship!!)

Another relationship I always think about with Rei, is hers with Akane. They are neither each other first, second or third priority, but the way their perception of each other changes through the series, the different roles they assume to and against each other. The change from rude/idiot to respect/begrudging respect to friend/ally to complicated emotions but enemy/complicated emotions but enemy to….. I don’t want you to die, you are/were my classmate and friend/shock and wishing for some sort of closure. Just the development between them, even when they have other things going on, is so interesting!!

It stays on my head as well especially on how it seems that Rei is….shocked over Akane protecting her (which comes suddenly for Rei, who doesn’t know what to think of Akane due to her just going “I am a mastermind and/or/working for the mastermind”) and then how she always has this… complex situation / hesitance around Sora. It always read to me as Rei wishing for some sort of….. I don’t know how to express but a final conversation with Akane to get closure on what the hell had happened there, and the confusion over Akane caring enough to stand aginst Utsuro to save her life and yet having had threated her life in the past.

I don’t know how to express, but yes. Much thoughts about Rei and Akane.

Also!! I like to think of Rei interacting and forming relationships, idk in what form if distant or close, just loose contact, actainquence, or actually friendship, with the survivors, mostly Yuki, Yoruko and Sora, of Another2, as I feel she would be the one to be able to step up to help them settle in the aftermatch, and how, I think, each of them would have a complex/different type of relationship with her as well as baggage in terms of both of theirs perspective to each other.

Tsurugi Section

About Tsurugi himself, I probably have more thoughts on him sprinkled in other asks. I remember writing at least one ask about Tsurugi that was pretty long and talked about him.

That said,

I also really like Tsurugi! Also one of my favs from Another1, although he comes probably a bit lower than Rei. That said Tsurugi is a really unique take on a possible character of DanganRonpa.

Tsurugi is also a central part of the Another 1 story, in that he represents and introduces the second primary conflict of the story(the first being the killing game itself), that is the faction division and the black/white perspective that unsettles half of the cast.

Tsurugi character arc is also a rather heartbreaking one, in that while his unhealthy black/white mentality is challenged, due to the situation he is, it makes him absolutely lose the one stability he had in the killing game and lead to while acknowledging it was wrong, giving up right after.

Overall, I really admire the writing build up of the deconstruction of Tsurugi mentality.

Chapter 1 Introduces Tsurugi black white view that a culprit is always guilty and should die, and a victim is always innocent. Notably it is introduced on the most black/white trial of, I think, nearly all DR where Mich, previously established as an ass, murders an innocent Kiyoka, to escape and go back to being a soccer player, who was just a kind and friendly person with no ulterior motive.

Chapter 2 challenges that perspective with: a victim that conspired to kill a person, and then tried to kill another ; a witness who almost got killed but in self defense grievously injured the victim ; a culprit to killed to simultaneously protect the witness and to escape. Tsurugi reaction is one that shows that his mentality doesn’t allow any situation nuance.

Chapter 3 challenges it again with: a culprit who turns to Tsurugi and uses the excuse he used to make his point and show the flaws of Tsurugi view. Tsurugi also starts to show in this chapter doubt regarding if what he was doing was right, to Yuuki.

Chapter 4 then shows the ultimate challenge: victim that conned the culprit into killing them to save the culprit and his friends lives, while the culprit confesses from the first moment because she wants to save their friends live and take the punishment for the killing.

Overall, I think the writing escalation into picking apart Tsurugi’s mentality was really well done. Which culminates into him concluding into Chapter 5 that he was wrong and admitting the nuances of the situations, while falling apart because he had clinged so hard to it as the one stability he had there..

Tsurugi is a pretty heartbreaking character in that he /does/ wants to save near strangers, while taking actions that harm them and is hit pretty hard every time he isnt able to save them.

Another heartbreaking thing about Tsurugi is his friendship with Yuuki. He comes to care for and confide in Yuuki over the course of Another, only to get slapped in the face that the one person he had come to trust in was the mastermind of this entire hell posing as someone else. (I probably talked about this in the other ask)

Chapter 0 points out that if Tsurugi had had more time he would have had positive development and would be able to form friendships as well as grow as person, especially when he himself points out to Utsuro that he used to be a loner and avoiding building relationships as Utsuro but the class had helped him, and he does tries to reach out for Utsuro and tell him that behavior would ultimately harm him. Which. Damn looking on how Yuuki and Tsurugi befriended each other. Damn. The reversal of Yuuki being the one to reach out for Tsurugi. Much to think. and I am crying.

Then Chapter 5/6 comes and he remembers his happy times with the class. Except. The class is, now, near all dead and they killed each other, with him being hostile to certain of them. I usually see Chapter 6 Tsurugi as being able to be relaxed around the class because he now both is/remembers being friends with them, and now has a clear culprit of the entire situation (Akane), so feels safe into trusting them, and is focusing on this and making up for the missed time and saving them over “NEAR ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DEAD”. Which also probably helps him to brush off the inconsistencies between Yuuki personality as a “uhhh probably head trauma from Akane’s attack” because I feel like his subconscious knows if he faced on more betrayal he would probably lose it.

I feel too that the Utsuro reveal kind of breaks a part of him, in the sense that when he finally felt safe to trust his friends… “SIKE” says the one person he had come to confide in.

There is also the part of Tsurugi probably being always reminded of Utsuro due to his divine luck having saved Tsurugi life AND now is currently decaying/reversing, and thus his body is affected in a linear sort of fashion and thus always remind him of Utsuro. Which. I imagine is hell on his mentality.

I think a lot about Tsurugi’s view on Yuki due to it having a lot of layers. First he desperately wants to save an innocent, that in a way, also got his life ruined to Utsuro. Second, I wonder if it pains Tsurugi when looking at Yuki is due to his memories with Yuuki, and the niggling thing on his mind of whether his bond with Yuuki had been false, had been a true bond with a amnesia!Utsuro or a true bond with a version of Yuki, all of which would carry very different complex and painful feelings.

In another2, it strikes me as Tsurugi hyper focusing on saving Yuki due to a sort of………I don’t know how to articulate so I may be doing wrong but…..closure over being able to save someone from Utsuro (or at least people tied to him, with Mikado being The Worst Person Enemy) and stopping him when he was unable to do so with his classmates and failed to stop Utsuro (seeing AI Yamato as the one who saved them…..and then proceeded to see Yamato immediately die after so….), and thus repressing/not acknowledging the shit out of everything else happening (Teruya death) for the sake of so.

I imagine once the dust settles, it would be then that Tsurugi would… have had to process the fact that Teruya…is…dead… in part because of him. Which Oof. Would lead to either another breakdown or Tsurugi hyper focusing on work or in salvaging the Kisaragi foundation in order to not acknowledge this truth.

The survivor trio breaks my heart a lot, because I do think that they were able to develop a really strong friendship in their time together, in which they all cared for each other, they all represented unique factors in it, but that due to dealing with the Tragedy and the clean up after as well as the kidnapping of Yuki and festering fear of “oh shit someone is planning a new killing game while kidnapping links to my classmates family”, and constant reminder of Utsuro thanks to his body being effected by the Divine Luck, it made Tsurugi be unable to move on (as well as he probably having the most unhealthy mentality beforehand in the killing game and just having a hell of a time in the killing game) and yeah.

Tsurugi in the timeskip wears a hat. I wonder if this is significant in a deep sort of way, like say, -> Tsurugi, by hiding his tiny ahoge, is showing he is not anymore in a central full front story role / Tsurugi using his hat as a sensory thingy, in that when confronted with thinking or distress he hides himself behind the hat (that one sprite).

I do like how Tsurugi has one red eye that is swirly similar to the Void’s eyes, which notably only comes out after chapter 6(epilogue) and in another 2. I usually see it as visual way to point that he now was affected by divine luck/had divine luck/had his life saved by divine luck as the voids. As well as, due to only being one eye, it setting him apart from the Voids who wanted to revive Utsuro while Tsurugi wants him to stay dead.

I also think a lot about Tsurugi relationships with Utsuro (the grief and trauma and doubt and lack of closure and complicated emotions he had with him), Chapter 6.5 gang (the different kinds of interactions he would have with them, both of personalities clashes, ideals, as well as the last pieces of the life his friends, admiration, possible friendships), Yamato (given that he seemed to be a figure that had a lot of impact in Tsurugi, and especially on how he saves them and motivates them) and Kinji (I feel like both would vibe with each other due to their calm personalities, not really knowing how to bond with classmates, the way Kinji isnt afraid to question Tsurugi but still stands on his ground) and Yuki (just. The massive. Complex feelings on Tsurugi side)

Overall I really like Tsurugi.
