My favorite interpretation of the myth of Persephone is that it's not a story of abuse nor romance. Is the story of a woman that made her choices and had to face the concequences of them.
In my version she wasn't escaping from an evil mother, nor was she kidnapped from an horrible man.
She was a young woman who loved her mother but wished to be seen by her as as the grown adult she was and not the girl her mother wish to keep her as (hence her name being Kore wich means "Girl"). Her mother isn't suffocating her or mistreating her. But like parents often do, they wish to hold on to their babies a little longer and ignore that they are adults.
So when she meets Hades, she finds herself desired in a different way, a way that she didn't experience before since in her family. Finally she feels herself being treated her age, finally she feels like she is allowed to explore her desires and wants.
But she didn't tell her mother. Mind you she shouldn't have to ask for permission but at least give a warning could have been a good idea. But she had other things on her mind and she just didn't want to deal with her mother potentially telling her no and again forget that Persephone could make her decision. Maybe Demeter would have been like "Oh alright have fun dear!" but instead she never got to know that her daughter willingly left and like any good mother she freaked out.
When Zeus came down to tell his brother to give back the girl, Hades may have been completely compliant, maybe he was feeling bad about the whole misunderstanding, maybe he even planned to directly apologize to Demeter and then start to properly court Persephone and ask for her hand.
But again Persephone didn't talk to Hades about how she felt probably patronized by her mother making this whole big problem the SECOND she gets out of her side and feels embarrassed and upset. So out of spite she goes and eat the pomegranates. Personally the pomegranet id a symbol of sex, aka her and Hades hadn't even consumed the whole time that she had been down there. He doesn't give it to her, he doesn't shoves the seed in her mouth. She makes the choice or eating it, and she makes sure that it will be just enough to tie herself to him but enough to leave space to be able to come back (aka not get pregnant).
So now she is tied to a man that she doesn't know that well for half a year and the other half she can only be with her mother when in the surface. Because i know that Demeter will not let her out of her sight again. The trust between them is broken.
And in all of this Persephone get to taste freedom just for a little bit. Her and Hades will grow to love each other but maybe it could have been much more genuine and tender if they weren't forced to be together by a choice made on a wim.
She was not stupid or egoistic or a victim. She was a woman that wanted to make her own choices she made them and like the adult she is she faces the concequences.

“Covid game me narcolepsy” no you fucking pervert it didn’t. You’re just a weirdo with a gross fetish. Covid didn’t make you suddenly want to fuck dead people. Keep that shit to yourself you gods damned weirdo
I have type 2 Narcolepsy. Studies have shown that serious viral infections can cause people to develop Narcolepsy if they are already genetically susceptible to having it. This includes covid. That is what happened to me.
You on the other hand might want to google the difference between Narcolepsy and Necrophilia….

Reread Equal Rites recently. I used to think it was about feminism and little girls getting the same opportunities as little boys. Which, it isn't not about that. But ALSO.
It's about an intersex kid.
It's about a little girl born with a staff.
And that's Not Right.
The adults in the room- her father, the 'medical professional'- attempt to remove the staff, by blade and by fire. The fresh little baby SCREAMS. So they agree to pretend it doesn't exist. She'll probably grow up just a regular little girl.
right?
But just around the onset of puberty..... it becomes apparent, not to her, but to the adults, that she's not going to be Regular.
The medical professional tries again to rectify matters. She tries to destroy the staff while the girl is unconscious. The girl screams. The adults give in. They aren't monsters.... but life will be so much harder, so much less foreseen, for this strange little girl....
They try to raise her 'right'.
If she won't be a conventional woman... maybe an unconventional woman. A Powerful woman- in the way that women can be powerful. Are permitted to be powerful.
But she's not a woman- she's a child. What will she be, when she's grown? A Witch. A Wizard. She can't be either. She can't be neither.
(The term 'warlock' is repeatedly invoked and scoffed. The etymology of 'warlock' is 'breaker of oaths'. Counter to the covenant. Rulebreaker.)
Right.

i actually find it really fascinating that there seems to be a subset of people who watch television shows and seemingly can't handle an ounce of conflict or narrative tension or flawed people handling difficult situations imperfectly. how do you guys live like this

I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished

Somewhere in the year after Jason becomes a part of Bruce's family, a strange book appears on the desk of Bruce's personal study room. A book about parenting traumatised kids. He opens it, leafs though a little, noticing certain phrases underlined, and closes it back. Alfred probably left it. Just a few days ago, they had a short argument regarding his parenting methods, and he seemingly tried to prove his point by additional literature. Bruce is going to read it later.
...He doesn't have time, actually, and eventually, the book stays forgotten, tucked between many others.
Years pass. Jason dies. And then comes back, complicated and different, frustrating and hard to crack. Thinking about Jason — a habit, always a habit — becomes some kind of roulette: he either remembers something nice, comes up with some courage to talk with his son, at least through comms, at least not directly, or the exact opposite thing happens, sending them both out of balance.
It is the middle of cleaning day, when Alfred suddenly picks up the exact same book about children victims and how to take care of them, and to Bruce's surprise asks where does this book come from.
'What do you mean?' Bruce frowns. 'You gave it to me when I just adopted Jason. Well, not gave, I would say tactically sneaked in, but...'
'I would remember that,' Alfred frowns. He goes through a few pages, and his face softens. 'It wasn't me, master Bruce.'
And suddenly, it clicks.
*Jason* left it. He underlined lines that probably felt relatable to him, that maybe could help them both in their new, hard journey. A shy kid he was, though, very smart, he would never actually speak with Bruce directly — he would try to leave him hints. To open up more in a subtle way.
To—
Oh.
Bruce suddenly can imagine his little son overhearing his late argument with Alfred that day, all these years ago. Mulling over, "this kid is deeply traumatised, master Bruce" and "well, I can't get inside his head, Al" lines. Figuring out how to easen his burden. How to be understood and yet accepted.
And Bruce... unknowingly discarded that.
As usual.
Unknowingly, cluelessly, and yet so simply — he discarded everything that was dear to Jason, everything that meant something for him.
As he grips the book in his hands, caressing the soft cover, he can't help but wonder if any of the information inside, little highlights Jason did, are still working for him. If he still can fix it.
