Look. Slade assumes that him and Dick are twin flames, that he's his equal in every sense of the word, when they're *not.* They're inverses of each other, not equals.

Slade wants to get under Dick's mask when Dick doesn't *have* one, and that drives him fucking crazy. Everything Slade does is brushed off, is danced around and parried like Dick doesn't *care.* If Slade finds the presses into the right bruise, pushes the right buttons, then he'll have an in. He'll have proof that Dick is *just like him* and that he's found his match.

The issue isn't that they aren't equals, though. The issue is that Slade embodies everything that Dick never wants to be.

Slade is angry, Slade is manipulative, Slade is intense. Dick checks every single one of those boxes. The thing that neither of them know, though, is that Slade's putting on more of a performance there than Dick ever has. (Dick is performing to become a person he wants to be. Slade is exaggerating his ruthlessness to play up a reputation.)

What does that say about Dick? If he is hiding his true self behind heroism, what kind of person could he become? If Slade is playing himself up and brushing the good parts of himself under the rug, what does it mean if Dick doesn't have those good parts at all?

Slade knows that Dick has the potential to be a better Deathstroke than Slade ever was, and it drives him crazy that he can never dig under Dick's mask

Fuck it, they’re throwing one in the livingroom of the base tonight. She couldn’t have a proper quinceanera? A little late - not even on her birthday but they’re gonna make SURE she gets the party she deserved. She couldn’t celebrate her graduation? Well fuck none of them did, they’re throwing a cookout in celebration and William and Dakota are already at the store getting groceries.

Sorry if I went through the emotional turmoil of my boyfriend bestfriend breaking up with me in front of a kfc by means of telling me he was going to embark on a quest to kill most human beings on earth and then a decade later he tried to murder a kid under my care so I had to off his half dead corpse in an alleyway and never get any closure and then a year after THAT I figured out someone had taken over his body and used it to comit disgusting heinous crimes and was now imprisoning me with his (my dead estranged lovers) body I would literally destroy the planet

anyways thinking about glark . and their dynamic and their relationship to each other . thinking abt the fact that both of them believe they are so completely undeserving of genuine love and kindness and so whatever sort of relationship they have , has none of that . if either of them got even a fraction of a notion that the other *cared* about them , they would backpedal *so* fast and never talk ever again tbh .

thinking about glark and the only "help" either of them will allow themself to have is the other . that the only relief they'll take comes in the form of black eyes and bloody knuckles . that the only time they will ever put words to their hatred of themselves is when they're screaming it at each other until their throats are raw . they are each others outlet in the worst kind of way . in the way that they are each others punching bags that will fight back . in the way that someone else will finally tell them that they hate them as much they hate themself . in the way that they will hear the other scream that he hates himself and have nothing to say except "you're right" . and knowing that they will get the same in return .

thinking about glark and the lack of tenderness . that they both do care about each other in at least some sort of way but the only way they allow themselves to show it is by beating each other bloody . that they will not , *can* not , show actual affection because then they have to stop before they start to need it . they can't show that they care because then maybe they're worth saving , and that can't possibly be right . that if they can somehow love the other then maybe they too are capable of being loved . so they'll continue projecting their self hatred on to the other . continue pretending that when the other says he hates you he really does mean that he hates *you* and not just himself .
