What A Day 💝
Sykkuno x Reader (Gender Neutral)
Warnings: None
Genre: FLUFF
Summary: Going to the store at any point between the 1st and the 21st of February is a literal nightmare for anyone without a significant other. All products in shades of red and pink, made especially to steal money from love-struck people. Sykkuno has honestly had it with having to deal with the shelves at stores laughing at him and his relationship status. Luckily, on a trip to Target, exactly on Valentine’s Day, he runs into someone who thinks the same.
Requested by Anon. Hello lovely person! Thank you so much for this wonderful request you’ve sent me! I’m so happy to be able to fulfill it and I hope it does your idea justice and I hope you enjoy the read! Happy Valentine’s Day! Love, Vy 💝
Sykkuno feels like he has entered a red and pink maze. His head is spinning slightly, his eyes only seeing shades of the bold color all around him. It’s downright impossible to ignore and combined with the mob of people rushing to get their hands on a last minute gift for their significant other, it’s suffocating. He couldn’t have run out of shampoo on a more inconvenient day than today. Valentine’s Day. Or as him and his friends like to think of it - anti single people day. I mean seriously, going to a store on Valentine’s Day while single has to be the most nightmarish experience.
Sykkuno isn’t one to care about relationships much, he has come to terms with the concept that no one is really interested in him - a concept of his own creation, mind you. A concept he blindly believes despite there being so many people to convince otherwise and change his mind. He has grown accustomed to the single life and if asked he always replies with the standard ‘Alone and happy’ response, accompanied by a small smile as if to prove that he is indeed happy. And he is, as long as he doesn’t start spiraling in thought he is rather content with what he’s got - an amazing group of fans, thousands and thousands of loyal fans, a job he loves. A romantic relationship has never been in his top priorities. But every now and then, he wishes he had it.
This is an example of one of those times.
Though everyone around him is mildly stressed and in a rush, they each have a place to be. A place where a person of importance to them is waiting for them. A person who will greet them with a smile, hug and kiss. A person they’ll spend the rest of the day with, sharing laughs and memorable moments that will make this day special. Cause that’s what it’s really about - chocolates and gifts aside, the most meaningful thing about today is spending time with someone you love. Someone you maybe see everyday yet every time you see them it feels like it’s been long since you last saw each other. Someone you maybe haven’t seen in a long time and this is a way for you two to be brought together. Someone you haven’t been spending enough quality time with and today’s your chance to change that.
He can’t help but feel a pang in his chest at the thought that hits him like a cannonball straight to the chest:
I will never have someone like that
“I KID YOU NOT, IF YOU HANG UP ON ME AGAIN I’M GONNA- HELLO?!“ His spiraling deprecating thoughts are cut off by an angry shriek from the other side of the shelves of products he’s standing in front of.
Sykkuno instinctively backs away from the voice, startled, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. There’s an empty spot in the shelves from where products had been snatched rather quickly, not leaving a single item. Given that it was the perfume section it makes sense. The lack of products allows for a peek on the other side of the shelves, or in the other aisle, to be more precise where he catches a glimpse of a person walking past in one direction, then comes back, then passes by again and so on until they catch him looking and stop dead in their tracks.
The hole is eye-level so the two are staring at one another like a pair of deer caught in headlights. Sykkuno feels the need to apologize for peeping in on their frustration breakdown which was probably supposed to be private, but then again it happened in the middle of a damn supermarket so he can’t really be blamed for checking to see what the commotion was about. But him being himself, apologizing is his first instinct.
Just as he opens his mouth, the person on the other side lifts two heart shaped boxes, “Hey stranger, sorry to interrupt your spying, but I’ve already called like three people to ask which of these is better at curing a lonely heart but they all hung up on me without giving me an answer so...” they trail off, shaking the two boxes of chocolates as if to attract his attention to them, “what do you think?”
He’s caught off-guard, to say the least. They dropped so much on him in a single breath he suspects they are now seeing spots in their vision due to momentary lack of oxygen. He wants to laugh it off but something tells him they are serious, “Oh, um, sorry, I’ve never had either.” He rubs the back of his neck awkwardly. “Try eenie meenie miney mo?” He suggests, giving them a slight shrug of his shoulders.
They look between the two boxes, a in-thought expression on their face, “Screw it!” They finally say, “I’m getting both.” They secure the chocolates under one arm, flashing him with a bright smile, “What are you getting your significant other? Need a second opinion? Being the only single friend in a friend group has gifted me a peculiar but, oddly enough, useful skillset in giving second opinions.”
Once again, so much said so quickly, Sykkuno can barely keep up with them. It’s been a slow day for him so his brain was basically on airplane mode up until now. Thanks to this ball of energy looking back at him his brain has kicked into mega gear, each cell working to remain in step with his correspondent. It’s a nice change of pace - too slow and he gets too self-deprecating, too fast and he feels lost amongst the words being said but with this person, no matter how quickly they’re speaking, the pace seems just right to lighten up his mood and return some liveliness to his being that was taken away by the broody thoughts that were coursing his head moments ago.
“If I could get a significant other, that’d be great. I’ll make sure to ask you for a second opinion then.” He admits timidly, looking away from the bright eyes that keep up bold eye-contact with no hesitation or doubts. He wishes he had at least half their confidence, but sadly he doesn’t. Especially not when faced with someone so courageous and upbeat, someone who seems to always want to be making the most of the time they’re offered, making every second count, making it memorable. He’s never been good at reading people, but this person is an open book with audio to go along with it. A show and tell book of vibrant colors and details that make them stand out and blend in simultaneously. But as they themselves said - they’re lonely. Does it show? Absolutely not. That speaks volumes about what kind of person is standing opposite him right now. Perhaps one he’d like to get to know better.
Or maybe he’s become just a tad too desperate.
“So should I give you my phone number so you can give me a ring when the time comes?“ The sneaky smirk that appears on their face brings a blush to his cheeks, a rush of blood so intense he’s embarrassed to admit it. Though one thing he’d have to admit is: that was a smooth line. “Oh sorry! People usually offer names before phone numbers, right?” They face-palm, shaking their head slightly before extending their hand to him through the hole in the shelves, “I’m Y/N.”
He takes their hand, cheeks still burning but a smile he couldn’t prevent is also gracing his features now, “Sykkuno.”
He can’t help but notice the words written on the inside of their wrist: chocolates, wine, ice-cream, chips and dip; the discovery provokes a chuckle from him which slips out before he could as much as think twice about it. Y/N’s gaze follows where his eyes are looking, stopping on the blue ink on their skin of their wrist and laughs, pulling their arm back, “Yeah, I’m rather forgetful.” They wave their hand nonchalantly before their eyes widen and they reach in their pocket, “Hold on! Give me your hand.”
He’d be a fool not to oblige. They pull out a pen, uncapping it with their teeth and writing a string of numbers on the side of the back of his hand going from the middle of his thumb to his wrist, each number written nicely and boldly, like their personality. It’s not an exaggeration when people say handwriting says a lot about a person - theirs is pretty outspoken that way.
“There!“ They smile after capping the pen again, “Hope you find you’re other half. Whoever they’ll be, they will most definitely be a lucky soul.“ They giggle, readjusting the heart-shaped boxes under their other arm, “It was nice meeting you, Sykkuno. Have a nice day!“
Y/N starts walking away without waiting for him to respond to their goodbye, leaving him somewhat speechless on his end of the shelves. He’s still in the middle of processing what just happened when his eyes land on the phone number on his hand.
I’ll maybe call them, He thinks to himself, looking at the digits of Y/N’s phone number from several angles when suddenly, an idea pops into his head.
Maybe I won’t
Before he’s had time to contemplate his next move, Sykkuno finds himself jogging towards the end of the aisle in hopes he’s not too late. In hopes that he will come across the person he just let slip from his reach like an dummy. He’s had far too many instances in which he accidentally let go of good opportunities, good people, good relationships, he’d hate to repeat mistakes once again.
Luckily, his prayers are heard.
“Y/N?” He calls out to them, catching their attention immediately. They turn around, a curious expression on their face, waiting for him to continue, “Do you, um, have any plans for today?”
Their eyes sparkle as they answer with a laugh, “You saw my grocery list, it should tell you about enough of how I’ll be spending the day.”
That’s a relief like no other. He was actually expecting them to come up with something last minute but his stars are probably well-aligned today, gifting him this luck, “Would you maybe wanna...um, grab coffee? Or lunch? Anything you’d like.” There’s that embarrassing bush again, this time more wide-spread than before and - impressively enough - more intense.
He thought their previous smiles were bright. No, no, no, no. Oh boy, was he wrong. This one! This one smile of theirs puts the sun to shame with its brightness and warmth. With its authenticity and contagiousness. It’s one of a kind. As is Y/N. “I’d love that, Sykkuno. Catch you outside?” They ask, showing their own timid side for the first time adding another element to their cuteness.
“A-absolutely.“ Sykkuno nods energetically, giving them a small wave before booking it straight towards the exits. All the while thinking to himself:
Damn, what a day. Wait...I forgot to buy shampoo, didn’t I?

Cordolium
Cordolium- Heartfelt sorrow, heartache (n.)
Pairing- Lee Jeno x reader
Genre- Fluff for starters, angst for main course.
Word count- 1.78k
Warnings- Y/n’s led on by Jeno. Or she just misinterpreted his actions, also horribly written ✌
Summary- Who’d known one picture was all it would take to break your heart.
Having gotten into your dream university called for leaving your comfort house and moving into a completely foreign environment, where everyone would be strangers unlike your town where everyone knew each other.
You were already cranky about the fact that you had to shift, added to that came the news that you’d have a roommate since the last room available was allotted to the student who enrolled in just minutes before you.
It was a bittersweet feeling. Bitter because you have to live with a total stranger having to share common spaces, personality could be who knows how. Sweet because you’d have a familiar face to look around in the University for.
“Y/n did you see my blue hoodie?” your roommate screamed from his room, to you who was seated on the couch by the living room. “Hmm?” you hum back, knowing full well the hoodie he’s implying to is the one you’d adorned right now.
“Come on doll, is there any hoodie of mine that you haven’t worn yet?”
Jeno is the perfect roommate. You’d been shocked the first day you punched in the password to your apartment, opening the door only to be greeted with a guy who had nothing but a towel around his torso. Half shocked at the fact that your roommate for the rest of your semester would be a guy. Half shocked that an extremely good looking guy was your roommate.
Jeno made the unknown neighborhood seem as though you’d been there all your life. He shooed away all your homesickness, never giving you time to even miss your street by bringing up new things to keep the pair of you occupied.
“Uh? The one that you bought yesterday? I haven’t worn that yet.” you flash him a smile as Jeno passed you a look of boredom. “It was a rhetorical question, Y/n” he shook his head, making his way towards you with nothing but his sweats on.
Not the first time you’ve seen him half naked, you’d seen him like that almost every other day, Jeno had clearly grown ridiculously close to you. But the sight of his toned abs and chiseled chest never fails to fluster you. “look at the picture you have of me half naked, you’re basically burning holes into my abs, babe” he retorted after plopping down on the seat beside yours and you immediately shift position to lay down on the couch with your head on his lap.
“Bold of you to assume i still have that image, Jen” you say, handing him the remote to select what you two would be watching that evening as you tug on his free hand, bringing it up to your hair and placing it there, shaking your head slightly as a signal for him to run his fingers through your hair.
This is how it’d been since you two grew close. You had a very, very touchy friendship. You had no objections to that, absolutely loving the cuddles and names he’d given you.
All fears of being alone had gone with the wind after the news of you being THE Lee Jeno’s roommate spread throughout the campus. The undivided attention you’d receive didn’t faze you though, knowing full well it was all just a way to somehow get Jeno to pay attention to them.
That didn’t matter though since you’d found a perfect friend circle for yourself. That friend circle being Jeno’s friend circle. They were all extremely bubbly and accepting of your joining in the group. One particularly was extremely close to you. Jaemin. Having shared the same energy level and brain cells, you got close to each other really quick.
Jeno chuckles at your antics before complying to your silent request, “Whatever. Though, I’d actually say nothing if you do end up being the first one to wear my new hoodie” you look up at him, confused. “you look cute in my clothes” he sends a wink in your way, leaning down to press a small peck on your forehead before diverting his attention to the shows he constantly switched back and forth to.
“Oh? Then maybe i should change into that right now-” you attempt to get up fast to hide your blushing self, only to be pulled back with a strong grip on the material of your (his) hoodie which resulted in you falling right back onto Jeno’s lap. “Maybe you shouldn’t” he gave you a playful warning look, breaking out into a smile seeing you huff out giggles.
“But you just said you don’t mind!” you try standing up again, “doesn’t matter” he pulls you back with more force, now locking you in a tight embrace as your head gets flushed into the nape of his neck, arms holding his bare shoulder for support.
Married couple. A title your friends had given you due to the pair of yours dynamic. It’s kind of like an inside joke at this point. Each time they’d point out you having something more than a platonic friendship, Jeno would always be the first one to dismiss it, clearing all misunderstandings whereas you’d make little to no effort to do so. Your love for the lad basically oozed out of you.
It’s a little hard to not have feelings for a guy with the personality of an angel, behavior intact and looks as a plus one. You are sure he had at least a little something for you seeing his actions, lingering kisses, touches. You are so sure he’s got at least something for you.
Pressing one last kiss to the side of your head, he moves you gently off of him and onto the fluffy couch as you stare at him in confusion, clearly not liking the warmth being taken away from you. “what happened?” you ask him, about to pull him back down, “I promised a friend I’d go over, we’ll cuddle once i return home, is that alright with you doll?” he inquires, leaning down to smoothen down the hair that was sticking out here and there from his previous actions.
“Why wouldn’t i be alright with that? As long as you give me all the cuddles we’re missing out on right now” you feign anger to which he gave you his signature eye smile. “Of course.” With that he left the room, probably to change into something else.
You really wanted to spill out your feelings for the lad to him, you weren’t scared of being rejected. Jaemin, Jeno’s known better half, had assured you multiple times of how you’d definitely be the only one to catch Jeno’s attention.
What you were really scared of was if you’d lose what you had right now. Feelings are stuff that comes and goes in a rapid and you can lose everything you have if your feelings for the other deteriorates somehow. But your friendship was way more important to you than your feelings and you wouldn’t, in a million years, want to lose what you’ve established with Jeno.
You spend the rest of your evening watching shows, painting your nails, and even reminding yourself to make one of Jeno’s favourite dishes for dinner once he gets home, mentally thanking Jaemin for reminding you to not forget that little confession plan you had plotted.
You’d make it subtle that you’re in love with your roommate through your actions rather than words, though, he’d be an idiot if he hadn’t already noticed at least a bit of affection for him through your clinginess.
You make your way to your room after turning the flame down to low upon hearing your phone ring. You wipe your hands on your hoodie before pressing the red button and picking it up, Jaemin’s contact taking up its place on your screen.
“Jaem?” you inquire stupidly as though his caller ID didn’t make it obvious enough that it was, in fact your best friend calling you.
“I would have barged into your house if you’d taken any longer to pick up the call but congratulations for finally gathering some balls to do it Y/n!!” Jaemin screams into the speaker, obvious that he’s excited. “Congrats?” you ask back.
“Yes! Finally! You guys look so cute in that image, I almost threw it at Haechan!” he replied with the same energy. Confusion clouds your mind as you try making sense of his words.
“Picture? Congratulations? Jaem, what are you talking about?"
"You know! The picture he just posted of the two of you being all lovey-dovey! I never took Jeno to be a romanticist! Like, the caption??-” you immediately open your laptop to log into your social to see what imagine Jaemin was talking about, “I have a slight doubt that you’re the one who posted it from his-” finally in on instagram, you scroll down to see any new posts of your roommate,
“-phone, but like. I’m so glad that you asked him out, knowing Jeno, he’d never do it unless you double dog dare him-” running impatient hearing Jaemin ramble on about the said image, you finally search up Jeno’s name, feeling your stomach churn with an unknown feeling.
“Also, did you dye your hair? You look really cute in that image though it isn’t all that clear! I told you from day one you’re a match made in heaven-”
You click on the recent post, the image of Jeno, leaning in, pressing a kiss on the lip of a girl unknown to you fills up your screen, ‘my one and only for eternity’ as the caption. “How was the kiss?-” you pause for a second, refreshing the page to see if it’s really an image of Jeno, kissing a girl, “Jaem.."
"I mean, if you’re gonna act all shy with me now then don’t tell me, but tell me how did you confess to him?” you can physically feel your heart drop down to your stomach
“Jaemin..” “you finally get to call him your boyfriend, Y/n! No space between the two words! I can’t believe he decided to make your relationship public the day of confession! But seriously-”
“Jaemin listen-"
"I’m still not over the caption, where did the confession take place?? You should’ve called me man! I would’ve recorded it-”
“Jaemin!” you finally scream, losing it at all the words coming out of his mouth, feeling enraged at yourself for ever thinking you stood a chance. Hearing the line go silent, you feel something wet travel down your cheeks the more you stare at your crush kissing a girl that’s not you. You choke out a silent sob. How are you supposed to face him after today, knowing everything you felt for him was unrequited?
“That girl in the image is not me.”

Chapter 3 - Things Never Seem To Go Y/N's Way Huh? (1404 words)
“It seems you 7 forgot that you don’t dictate what goes on here. You are but a guest to the Devildom and the Sins, my subjects. MAKE NO MISTAKE! I AM YOUR KING AND YOU LOT ARE NOTHING!” The brothers jumped in front of me to try and shield me from the king while Asmo and Barbatos tried to pull me back to get me out of the room. Diavolo jumped in front of the king trying to stop his father.
“Father stop! Please! There isn’t a need for this! Y/N is harmless to the Devildom and the Lords! They are the only human that accepted us for what we are, they even BOWED down to YOU and not because of your status but because they accepted you as their king! Can you not see that this is a step in the right direction and that everything you’re doing undoes all that we’ve worked towards?”
“What YOU’VE worked towards. I am not interested in inter-realm relationships. It seems I have been too lax with you boy. I will deal with you once this human has been eradicated.”
The king snapped his fingers and purple chains started to wrap themselves around me. I felt my energy leave my body like the chains were siphoning it. The last thing I saw before losing consciousness was Diavolo kneeling before his father and pleading for my life as the others in the room followed suit then, black.
Sometime Later…
I woke up to the feeling of a cold hard floor. Snapping awake I felt a sharp pain in my right foot. Looking down I realized that my ankle had been chained to the wall. I was put into a cell that looked to be somewhere underneath the palace. Taking some deep breaths I curled up into a ball reaching out trying to feel for the connection in my pacts only to feel an immense sharp pain in my brain.
“These cells are enchanted to nullify magic, pacts included.”
The king spoke while entering and I steeled myself as I stood with as much strength as I could muster while glaring at him as fiercely as I could.
“You have made quite the commotion for a mere mortal haven’t you?” He started looking at me with a sharp look in his eyes, a sickeningly sweet smile on his face as he continued.
“To think a mere mortal of a human was able to sway the hearts of my 9 most powerful and coldhearted demons, my son included, although he always had a soft spot for the weak. You should count yourself lucky human, my son, as well as the Lords, all pleaded for your life. I have to say, I was quite disgusted by their behaviour.” He snarled at me with the most hateful expression I’ve ever seen in a demon. I tried my hardest not to quiver in front of him as I locked my gaze on him. All that time spent with Lucifer paid off as I schooled my expression into the hardest one I could muster in these circumstances.
“You’re quite lucky to have this many demons care about you. Seeing as how my son had just gotten me back, I have decided to humour him and hold a public trial deciding your fate tomorrow. If I am going to make an example of how demons should be treating humans, I might as well make it public so that all of Devildom can see that you mortals will never be able to hold such power over us, wouldn’t you say?”
He asked his question with such a disturbing smile showing off his fangs trying to get a rise out of me. On the inside I was having a full-blown panic attack, on the outside, however, I just continued to stare at him, not dignifying him with a response.
“Ah well, I didn’t really expect you to answer that. Although, before we go through with this trial, you will have to dissolve your pacts and if you won’t I will dissolve them by force.”
At this, I burst out laughing. Tears came to my eyes as I grabbed my stomach trying to stay upright while I addressed the king between laughing breaths.
“Hahaha! You think dissolving my pacts is the way to go?! News flash! The pacts are the only reason the brothers haven’t attacked you or tried to break me out! They are the only thing keeping them in line, take that away and they will have nothing to anchor them. Diavolo may have pacted with Lucifer but we both know they would side together to get me out and even if Dia were to try to stop him, he would fight it with his brothers. You’d have a war on your hands.” Smirking, I looked to the so-called “king” to gauge his reaction. Growling dangerously low he replied.
“You think me afraid of Pride and his so-called “family?”
“No, no I don’t, but it would be very hard to fight a one-sided war especially with The Morningstar leading the charge with “your” 9 most powerful demons backing him.”
I turned around and sat on the makeshift bed folding my hands behind my head, I finished speaking with a genuine smile across my face.
“The pacts will be staying and I will make sure the brothers don’t interfere with the trial. Whether you like it or not, my pacts are the one thing keeping them at bay. I’ll see you again tomorrow at the trial?”
He growled and with a scoff turned on his heel and left me alone in my cell. I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding, breaking down as the gravity of the situation set in. He was either going to kill me or banish me and not allow any of them to come to see or stay in contact with me. Tears started forming in my eyes as I let them fall silently not having the energy to scream. I don’t know how long I was in there for but by the time someone came to drop off my “dinner” which really only consisted of a piece of bread and some water which I guess is ideal for a prisoner, my tears had completely dried, a rock hard emotionless expression on my face had made itself at home. Ironically, instead of praying to God to help me, I found myself thinking of Diavolo and my fellow demons, wishing I could see even just one of them. I thought about the desserts Barb and I never crossed off of our to-bake list. Poison Cherry Tarts were next on the list. The pranks Dia and I have yet to pull off. We were supposed to do a lyric prank on the boys. The places I have yet to nap with Belphie. We were going to build a treehouse with Beel and sleep in there. I thought about Asmo and his make up line and how he wouldn’t be able to ask me to help him test them out anymore. Satan's birthday is coming up. I have a memory book I made for him starting from the first day I met him in the council room. A picture and story for every day since I’ve known him. The number of games Levi and I have yet to play. He recently got an escape room game based on the House of Lamentation! The schemes I wouldn’t get to pull off with Mammon. We never even caught a picture of Lucifer caught off guard! My thoughts then drifted off to Lucifer. The firstborn Avatar of the Cardinal Sin of Pride. The Morningstar. My Morningstar. I thought about the late nights we would no longer have. The brief brushing of our fingers. The caresses that we would no longer share. I remembered how he was when I first arrived. He was cold, distant, he wouldn't really give me the time of day. Now we spend late nights together. He anchors me and I like to think that I do the same for him. How will he handle it when I’m gone? Not wanting to stay in my head any longer, I drift off into a dreamless slumber awaiting the day that will ultimately decide not only my fate, but the fate of the demons I’ve grown to call, family.

Hearts and Shocks
Summary: You’re soulmates with Yahaba, but the thing is, he doesn’t seem to want one. And then he shows up at your house late at night and decides to pour his heart out to you.
TW: mentions of alcohol, being drunk, alcoholism, and abuse. There are some swears, but I think that’s it. Again, if I missed something, please let me know.
A/N: I have no idea where this came from and it’s pretty gender neutral.
“I might kill Kyoutani, I might actually do it,” Yahaba said, tearing a hand through his hair as he walked home with you.
“No you won’t, you know he’s growing on you,” you told him, reaching for him before you dropped your hand to your side again, hoping he hadn’t seen the movement.
“I hate it when you’re right,” he muttered.
“You must hate it a lot then,” you replied, giving him a small smile. “But at least he’s starting to respect you more, and he’s starting to realize that he can’t keep acting like an ass.”
He sighed, letting his hand fall back to his side as he turned face up towards the sky. “Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing it right,” he admitted.
“Doing what right?”
“Leading the team. I’m not like Oikawa-”
“You’re not Oikawa,” you reminded him. “You’re not the genius setter that he was. You aren’t some volleyball prodigy. You lead the team the way you lead the team. You keep them in check the way you do. You don’t have to be Oikawa. Your team isn’t expecting you to be Oikawa.”
“The first years are,” he said.
“Fuck the first years!” you hissed, gripping his wrist. “Kyoutani isn’t expecting you to be Oikawa, Watari isn’t expecting you to be Oikawa, Kindaichi isn’t expecting you to be Oikawa, Kunimi isn’t expecting you to be Oikawa. They aren’t expecting you to be Oikawa.”
You hated when he did that, you hated when he compared himself to Oikawa. He wasn’t Oikawa, and anyone that expected him to be Oikawa was a dumbass in need of some serious brain cells.
You realized you were still holding his wrist and you let go, taking a step back, trying to ignore the ache in the pit of your stomach.
You hadn’t touched bare skin luckily, and you hoped that the measures you were taking were working and that he hadn’t noticed anything unusual the last couple of weeks.
You had been both hopeful and dreadful when you realized you and Yahaba were soulmates. Hopeful because you had liked him for more than four months now, not that he had noticed, and dreadful because he had told you multiple times he didn’t want a soulmate. He’d been going on and on about how the system didn’t work the way it used to.
His parents had been soulmates, and he had grown up in a house filled with arguing and hate and fear of what might happen. He didn’t believe in soulmates the way that you did.
Your parents had been soulmates too, but they had been in a similar situation. Your father had loved alcohol more than he had loved you or your mother, but the thought of your soulmate had gotten you through.
You had hoped that you would be different, you had hoped that if you ever had kids they would grow up in a loving household, never having to hide in a closet or ease their father into a bed when he was stumbling around drunk.
You remembered the way Yahaba had jerked away from your touch that night at the party when he’d had too much to drink.
The look he had given you when he had realized what the almost electric shock meant, it had been in your nightmares as of late.
Luckily, he had drank enough that he had no idea what had transpired.
“They know you won’t be Oikawa,” you continued. “Every captain leads differently. Karasuno’s captain didn’t lead the way Oikawa did, and they beat Seijoh. Nekoma’s captain didn’t lead the way either of them did, and they were a strong team. You don’t have to be Oikawa, Yahaba.”
You bit your lip for a moment, trying to figure what you needed to say and how to say it. You needed to be careful. One wrong word and it would all come to a close.
“And,” you added, “I know my opinion doesn’t mean much to you, but I like you more than I liked Oikawa. Just thought you should know that. See you tomorrow Yahaba.”
You turned onto your street, adjusting your bag as you let out a breath you hadn’t known you’d been holding.
You felt your cheeks burn as you made you way to your house, hoping to every deity that you hadn’t fucked everything up, hoping that he hadn’t caught onto everything that you had been trying to bury under the surface.
Sometimes, late at night when you were supposed to be sleeping, you wondered what it would be like, to have Yahaba care for you the way you felt about him. To have him look at you the way Oikawa and Iwaizumi looked at each other.
You wondered what it would be like, to have him even glance at you like that.
You sighed, running your hands over your hair.
You thought about it for a ten more minutes, but then you sighed again.
“It’s too early to be thinking about that,” you hissed, trying to shake the thoughts from your head as you opened the door.
“Mom, I’m home,” you called. Then you noticed the note on the fridge. “Right, it’s double shift night.”
You threw your bag into a chair and opened the fridge, disregarding the note.
After unloading the dishwasher, switching over the laundry and starting another load, and cleaning the house, you slipped into some comfy pants and a tank top, then headed to the kitchen to get dinner and do your homework.
“Leftovers, leftovers, leftovers,” you muttered, pulling out a Tupperware container filled with rice and some sort of meat.
It smelled fine at least.
A few minutes in the microwave and it would be perfect.
You had just popped it in when someone knocked on the door.
“Figures,” you muttered, stopping the clock as you reached for the door, checking the peephole first.
Yahaba stood there, looking shocked, and you frowned.
“What the hell are you doing here?” you asked, moving to let him in.
It was dark out and the wind bit into your skin as you stood there. Had he run there? Had he gone home or had he been out there for any length of time?
“I need to talk to you.”
“Clearly,” you said, sitting him down in one of the chairs in the kitchen.
“You said that your opinion didn’t mean anything to me and that’s not true,” he blurted.
“I said it didn’t mean ‘much’,” you corrected, leaning against your counter.
“Either way, your opinion means a lot to me, more than it should, and I care about you more than I should, more than I said that night and I can’t keep watching you pull away because you’re my soulmate. I remember everything from that night and I need to apologize to you because I was scared of what we could be.
“I’ve known for months that we were soulmates and I kept it to myself because you never told me how you felt about it, and I know that was my fault because I got irritated and twitchy every time we tried to talk about it, but goddamnit (Y/F/N), I can’t keep watching you walk away because you think I want it that way. I don’t, I don’t want you to walk away and leave me behind.
“I need you in my life, and I need you by my side. I would’ve flipped my shit earlier if you hadn’t been there to get me out of my head. I need you, I need you more than I’ve needed anything and I know how bad that sounds, I know that makes me sound like some kind of psychotic stalker, but you are a part of my heart, (Y/F/N), alright? You feel this?”
He grabbed your hand, shocking the both of you, almost like you had touched a live wire instead of bare skin. You gasped as he let out a strangled groan in the back of his throat at the continuance of it as he splayed your hand over his heart, which was pounding so badly you thought it might jump right out of his chest.
“This is for you. You and you alone. I don’t love volleyball the way the others do, I love the game, but it’s not everything to me. But you? You are everything to me, and you need to know that this, my heart, belongs to you. So do with it what you will. Smash it, shatter it, crack my chest open and keep it as a treasure, whatever, it’s yours. Just please, I know I don’t deserve it after everything I’ve done in the last few months, but please, just believe me.”
He was blushing a fierce red, his chest heaving against your palm as he caught his breath.
You had never really heard him talk like this, especially for this long, and he looked like he might cry, his eyes were glassy and lined with silver.
It took you a minute to gather your thoughts before you finally pushed his chest lightly, moving your hand from his chest.
He looked broken for a moment before you reached for his hand.
“No one has ever said anything like that to me, Yahaba, and I appreciate the honesty. But there’s one major thing wrong with what you just said.”
You ignored the hurt look on his face as you took the hand you were holding and put it above his heart, applying just the slightest bit of pressure.
“I can’t take your heart. Want to know why? Because it’s yours. You can give it out however you wish, but it’s not just your heart that I want,” you told him softly. “I want you. Whole and flawed and Yahaba. I don’t want you to be Oikawa, I want you to be yourself. So keep this for me, yeah? Protect it and love it as much as I do. I want Yahaba, not just his heart. I don’t plan on breaking his heart, and I don’t plan on breaking yours either.”
Yahaba gave a small laugh, his breath ticking your cheeks. You hadn’t realized how close the two of you had gotten.
Your back was against the counter, but you barely noticed because of the heat radiating off of Yahaba as he wrapped his arms around your waist, burying his face in your neck.
“You’re so amazing,” he whispered, kissing your neck lightly, making you shiver.
“You couldn’t have said this tomorrow? It’s almost eleven you moron! Wow, I really was having dinner late wasn’t I?” you asked, the last part more for yourself than anything.
“You haven’t eaten yet?” Yahaba asked, pulling away slightly.
“I was going to eat earlier, but you showed up and poured out your heart to me in an epic show of dramatics that rivals Oikawa. The only thing we needed was an audience.”
“Sorry, I thought you would be in bed or something,” he admitted, blush returning.
“It’s alright. This was one of the nights where I was actually going to eat.”
“That’s not healthy,” he muttered.
“Go and sit in the living room, I’ll be in in a few minutes, then we can talk if you want,” you told him, pushing him towards the doorway. “You ate too right?”
“Yeah, I went home and thought for a few minutes before I decided I needed to come clean,” he said.
“You noticed?” you asked. “That I was pulling away from you?”
“You tend to be a touchy person. Lots of hugs, shoulder touches, that sort of thing, but you haven’t been doing it a lot with me lately, so I started to notice.”
“I’m sorry,” you murmured as you restarted the clock.
“You shouldn’t be,” he told you. “I was a coward. I should’ve told you.”
“I should’ve told you. I knew for almost as long as you did, but I was terrified of what your reaction would be. I mean, as far as soulmates go, I’m pretty average.”
“Shut it Yahaba,” you snapped, turning to him. “I would chose you every single time. Don’t ever think that I would want anyone else to be my soulmate.”
“I’m a pretty boring other half though, you have to admit it.”
“We’re simple people Yahaba. We don’t need extravagance or fame, we just need the people we care about and secruity. And soulmates aren’t ‘other halves’. That’s bullshit. You’re a full person, you’re a functional human being.”
He snorted at that part, but you glared and him and continued on anyways.
“Soulmates are like socks. One sock is still a sock, it’s just a matter of finding another sock that is close enough. You could wear an ankle sock and a thigh high and it would work, but that doesn’t mean that they necessarily work the best together. You don’t have to be my other half, just like I don’t have to be yours, and that’s because we are still our own separate people.”
Yahaba smiled at you, brightly and unrestrained and you wondered what you had said.
“I love you,” he stated. It was like it was the easiest thing in the world for him to say it. It made you wonder how long he had been holding that inside.
“I love you too.”
The microwave went off and you sighed, pulling the container out, snagging your utensils before you walked into the living room.
“So, what now?” Yahaba asked.
“Now we figure out how serious we want this to be,” you said.
“You’re kidding right?” he asked.
“No, I’m quite serious actually,” you admitted, picking at your dinner. “I just . . . I just need to hear you say it.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” he said, pulling you into his lap. “I’m not leaving unless you want me gone.”
“Me either,” you told him, setting the food off to the side so you could wrap your arms around his neck.
“Good,” he replied, smiling at you.
“Good.”

Hesitant - Draco Malfoy
Request: 29, 37, 40 with Draco Malfoy please?😊😊 29: “How is my wife more badass than me?” 37: “Welcome to fatherhood.” 40: “The kids, they ambushed me.”
(A/N: Please don’t hate me, but I didn’t add #40. I couldn’t add it in authentically and didn’t want to drag the story on after the best ending point. I really love this story and would love to do a part two, if that makes it better. :) )
Draco Malfoy never thought that he was going to be a father. For a while, he didn’t even think he would live to be an adult. During your school years, you knew Draco as the snobby rich kid that always got what he wanted. You were hesitant of him, even after Voldemort was killed.
You were one of the students that came back for eighth year. You never got to take your N.E.W.T.S., and you knew future employers would care about your scores. You wanted to become a professor; you felt called to return to Hogwarts and teach the future generation of wizards.
Your first interaction with Draco was in the library. You were huddled away in a corner, studying for a Transfiguration quiz. You had talked to McGonagall at the beginning of the year about your future. She gave you her blessing to take over her position the following year, as she would be Headmistress of the school.
Draco sat down at a table diagonal from where you were seated. He was taking notes out of a copy of the same book you were using. He was having issues, clearly frustrated by something within the pages. “Draco?” The boy looked up at you, tears edging his bottom eyelid. “Can I help?” He nodded, giving you the permission you needed to slip into the seat beside him. You turned the book to find him looking at instructions for how to turn a cat into a cup. “Do you think it hurts them?” he asks, his voice soft, but even. He was on the verge of a breakdown, and you didn’t know how to answer. “I don’t know. I hope not.” Draco nodded, once again. “I’ll ask McGonagall if we can skip that portion of the exam, in case it does.” You gently closed the textbook in front of the boy. “Not a lot of people are in the class. Really, only those who want to become aurors. I assume, you already knew that much, though.”
Draco shook his head. “I don’t want to become an auror.” You sit back. “Alright, what is your dream?” “I want to become a professor. Not of transfiguration, of course. Something I’m good at, like potions or DADA. I’ve gotten pretty good at it from my time on the other side.” He gently laughs, causing you to smile back.
“I haven’t told anyone, but I want to become a Professor, too.” “When we’re both professors, we have to get together and plan our homework assignments out so we don’t assign a ton for the same day. It’s just cruel,” Draco said, motioning to the stack of papers still laid across from him. “One, agreed. Two, it’s easier if you don’t wait until the day they’re due,” you replied after picking one up. “I’ll help.”
__________________________
It was January when you began developing feelings for the Slytherin. Your friendship had grown steadily and you became inseparable. “Guess what,” you said, sitting across from him at dinner. Draco tilted his head. “You know I hate guessing games.” “Just guess!” “You’re pregnant?” You gasp. “How did you guess?” Draco’s face twists in confusion. “Wait, what?” “Of course I’m not pregnant! Did you lose all your brain cells after you bleached your hair or what?” “Hey! My hair is naturally this color,” he states, crossing his arms. “Okay, okay, back to my news. Professor Sprout is retiring, which means I could be head of house next year!” “(Y/N), that is amazing!” Draco said, pulling you into a hug. You slowly pulled away, looking into his eyes. You had never been this close to him. You always saw him as a threat, someone who hated you and your friends. You felt his hand linger at your waist. He was kinder, now, more humane. You could see the person that was underneath the cold exterior. “What are you thinking about?” Draco asked, his voice barely a whisper. “You.” “Why?” he asked, narrowing his brow. “So much has changed this year. I’ve lost friends, family... I didn’t even know who I was for a while. I came back this year to finish off my schooling and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. When I learned that you were coming back I was angry. I didn’t know why McGonagall would let you come back into this place that you helped ruin. But, I feel different now, so different. Everything I thought about you was wrong, and I’m sorry.”
“Thank you,” Draco said, his voice thick with emotion. “I hated the person that I was, and I am trying so hard to become better. I want a future. I want a family. I want...” Draco paused, considering his words. You held his hand in yours. “Just say it,” you whispered. “You.”
__________________________
Draco proposed within a year.
You sat cross-legged on your bed, turning through pages of worn-out textbooks. Draco sat on the floor below you, brewing a potion that you had never heard of. You were both hired on as professors, Draco as potions and yourself as transfiguration. Harry had taken the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. You were all proud Heads of House, as well.
“What’s that potion supposed to do, again?” you asked, distracting yourself from your lesson plans. “It’s not one you take internally. Basically, you throw it on the ground and fireworks appear directly above wherever the glass shattered. George sent me the instructions.” “George Weasley? I didn’t know you two were close.” “We weren’t until recently. I wanted to right my wrongs and make peace by him. We aren’t quite friends yet, but we’re working on it.” Draco looked up at you from the potion, giving you a small smile. “I think it’s done. Do you want to go try it out with me before I show it to my class?” “It’s almost dinner time. All of the students will be in the courtyard. What if it goes berserk or something?” “Come on, (Y/N), you have to have a little more faith in Georgie and me,” Draco smiles, pulling you off the bed.
You make it to the center of the courtyard, “the perfect place”, as Draco calls it. A crowd had gathered around you to watch the fireworks, including Harry and Headmaster McGonagall. “Draco, if this thing doesn’t work you’re going to be in so much-”. Your eyes meet with Draco’s, who slowly drops down on one knee.
“(Y/F/N), you have brought so much meaning into my life over this past year. You give me inspiration in everything that I do. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me,” Draco says, his voice cracking. “Will you marry me?” “Yes!” you cry, pulling Draco into a kiss. Cheers surround you and fireworks crackle above. “I love you,” you whisper into Draco’s chest. “I love you more.”
__________________________
It took five years for you to become pregnant. After thousands of tears over a singular line, you shed tears for a set of two. You sat on the bathroom floor alone, clutching the pregnancy test in your hand. You had been trying for a baby for three years, and you held the proof of your baby’s life within your hands. After leaving your bathroom, you dropped the pregnancy test into the pocket of Draco’s robes he would be wearing for dinner. You hoped that he would find the test as soon as he put the robe on. It was simple, but that’s what you wanted.
When Draco entered your room, he broke into sobs. You ran to him, wrapping your arms around his shaking body. You gently pulled him to your bed, sitting both of you down. “What happened?” “Hermione asked me to come speak to her History of Magic class about the Battle of Hogwarts. She explained to them about how I was on the side of the Death Eaters. I thought that I had moved on from my past, that I was more than it, but I don’t think I am.” “Draco, you are so much more than your past. I have seen you change and grow. You have become someone that I love and respect, so much. You care for others and you care about others. Hermione wanted you to speak to her students to show that whatever situation you are in, you can always overcome it.” “What if those students never look at me the same? What if they see me as a monster?” he asked, spitting out the last word. “They won’t because they have no reason to.” You stood up, grabbing the pregnancy test from the robes. “They see you as what you are: a good professor, a great husband, and,” you pause, handing Draco the test, “a wonderful father.”
Draco’s hand shook as he took the test from your hand. “You’re pregnant?” he asked, eyes tearful. You could only nod, now crying as well. Draco let out a laugh, pulling you into a hug. “We’re going to be parents.” “Yeah, we are!” you exclaim, now laughing as well.
__________________________
In nine months, you welcomed Scorpius Malfoy into the world.
It had been a long labor and you felt yourself drifting off to sleep, your son barely in your arms. Draco rested his hands on your shoulders, looking down at his child. “I can’t believe you did that,” he said, his voice barely a whisper. You looked up at him and smiled gently. “How is my wife more badass than me?” he laughed, wiping his tears.
“Do you want to hold him?” Draco nods viciously, holding out his hands. You gently transfer the baby into his arms. “Careful with his head.” You don’t even know if he heard you. As soon as he settled Scorpius into his arms, he was in his own world. You had never seen him so happy. When he finally looked at you, he broke into a wide grin. You smiled back, “Welcome to fatherhood.”

Chapter 2
WE ARE THE LOVESICK GIIIIIIIIIiiiiiIiiiiiiIIIIIIRLSSSSS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Wait, so let me get this straight. Do you want to date this guy? Or do you just wanna fuck him?”
“_____, please stop fucking athletes. You have a type and it’s shitty men who have two brain cells.”
“OKAY,” you yelled. “I get it! I like my men that know how to juggle balls and can juggle me! IS THAT CRIME?!”
“No! But what about some cute English major? Or a sociology one? You like sociology!” Jisoo insisted.
“First of all bitch, English majors are pretentious so how dare you,” you snapped, “Have you not seen You? Everyone knows to stay away from them. And sociology majors are only good for arguing on Twitter. They suck at sex.”
“Um fuck you? I’m a sociology major and I--” Jennie started
You interrupted her, “I do not need to know about you and Jisoo’s sex life. Please. Not all of us like romantic candlelit sex. I want someone to choke me and degrade me! I love being degraded! Have either of you been thrown around? Or tried orgasm denial?”
Jisoo scowled. “No, you freak. Some of us don’t like being rough.”
“Yeah,” Jennie sniffed. “There’s nothing wrong with vanilla sex. So what if I like to have my room smell like A Thousand Wishes and have Alina Baraz playing while I’m fucking? Also, who wants to have their orgasm be denied? Isn’t that, like, the opposite of what someone would want in sex?”
You gaped at her, “Oh my god. I’m going to ignore that last question and focus on what’s more disturbing. Are you serious, bitch? A Thousand Wishes is the scent you pick from Bath and Body Works? There are better ones.”
“Ooo, really? Which ones do you recommend?” Jennie lights up as she asks.
“Okay, you need to try---”
“Oh my god, can we focus?!” Jisoo hisses. She looks between you and her girlfriend and sighs when you both turn to her with incredulous faces.
Of course both of you thought she was crazy for interrupting the conversation.
“Look, _____” Jisoo sighs, “You don’t think this is a bad idea? You work with this guy. What if it makes things awkward?”
“It won’t,” you dismiss while waving a hand around, “He’s chill. I’m chill. We’re both grown and can handle sleeping together while staying… colleagues. Acquaintances. Whatever the hell we are.”
Jisoo and Jennie shared a look. They both knew that once you set your sights on someone, it was only a matter of time until you sunk your claws into them. Their warnings were only going to fly right over your head. Usually, your friends would admire how determined you are when you want to achieve something and wouldn’t let anyone deter you. Any other day they would admire your perseverance.
Today wasn’t that day.
You saw the look that the couple in front of you shared and immediately tensed up.
“Look, I know what you two are thinking,” you say with your brows furrowing, “He seems like just my type. But I’ll be careful. If I feel myself getting too…. too close or feeling like it’s too much I’ll stop.”
Jisoo immediately softened her face and spoke gently. “_____, I’m not trying to control you. Neither is Jennie. We both love you, you know that. You’re like our sister and daughter all in one. We just know of Xuxi’s reputation and want you to tread carefully, okay?”
You looked at her with wide eyes, “What do you mean?”
It wasn’t that they were upset over you sleeping around, far from it actually. You were a big girl who could do whatever and whoever you wanted. Hell, they often played wing woman and set you up with guys they knew you would like.
They were just worried about you. You were the baby of the group with a personality that someone could easily take advantage of. It’s not like you were the type to run at the first sign of romance, in fact, you enjoyed it.
You, whether you admitted it or not, were secretly a hopeless romantic. You were okay with having casual sex, but if it went anything farther then that..
Well.
You fall hard. You loved the idea of love no matter how much of a realist you forced yourself to be. You liked making connections and building relationships with people that made you laugh, it was a part of your charm. You gave away your heart too easily when it came to relationships, and they had been there to pick up the pieces quite a few times. You gave your all to someone and it hurt them seeing someone do wrong by you.
Your friends were only worried about you because they both knew of Huang Xuxi.
And they both knew he was exactly the type of guy who could charm you and would fall for immediately.
Jennie moved to sit by you and cuddled closer, “Look, yeah he’s a nice guy. Everyone knows that. But… he’s just a player. Sure he’s transparent with every girl he sleeps with, but that doesn’t mean he treats girls nicely. And you deserve to be treated nicely. Or I’ll kick his fucking ass and set his car on fire.”
Jennie beamed at you when she finished speaking. You felt your heart warm at the threat. She absolutely would follow through with it and knowing you had a friend who would go that far for you made you feel safe and secure.
“Me too, Jennifer. If I didn’t know you and Jisoo are practically soulmates I would say the same thing. But since you two are basically the last piece of evidence that proves love exists, I’ll settle for something else. So if any one of those girls on the cheer team give you the slightest bit of attitude I’ll slap them.”
Jisoo smiled seeing the exchange. For right now, they’ll put Huang Xuxi onto the backburner.
“Anyways, let’s go back to what we all came here for. The semester starts next week and the Theta Chi house is working with the Sigma Kappa girls to throw the first party. So obviously we need to look sexy as fuck. Especially _____ and Lisa. You both have cobwebs and dust collecting on your vaginas that I can see.”
“What the fuck” you gasped, “Ten told me the same thing! It’s literally been a month. Cmon, that’s not even that long.”
“Yeah well, for a university student it is. Especially for someone hot like you. Even more so when we take your track record into consideration. Your virginity is basically putting itself together again like the ashes of the ones that died in Infinity War,” Rosie said as she walked into the apartment with Lisa towing in right behind her.
You jumped at their entrance then scowled after her comment sunk in, “Leave me alone, Roseanne,”
Rosie glared at you for the use of her full first name as she sat down across from you.
“When was the last time you got laid?” you taunted, “We haven’t heard any hoe stories from you either!”
Rosie perked up, “Last night, actually. I went on a date with Jungkook and went back to his apartment. Mingyu says hi, by the way. Did you know they were roommates?”
“UGH,” you groaned. “Of course you get laid by one of the hottest dudes there is. And he’s nice! What the fuck! Save some for us bitch!”
Rosie laughed and looked down, her cheeks flushing a pretty pink.
Immediately everyone got quiet and stared at her.
“Rosé,” Lisa drawls out slowly, “Do you actually like this guy?”
Rosie sobered up quickly and looked around at each of you.
“Okay, look,” she says slowly, “I’m gonna be honest with you guys. I--”
“Oh my god,” you interject with a groan. You throw yourself onto the couch and cover your eyes with your arm, “Everyone is falling in love except me! I haven’t even had sex in so long! Not even oral!”
“I didn’t even finish yet!” Rosie says exasperated.
“Yes, but you’re Rosé, everyone falls in love with you on the first date. And if this guy didn’t then I’ll kill him. Because you’re pretty and perfect and deserve the world. Why wouldn’t he fall in love right away? The fuck.”
Rosie flushes but sends you a shy smile either way.
“As I was saying, I actually have been going on dates with Jungkook but didn’t say anything because I actually like this guy. I was worried he just wanted to hit it and quit it, that’s why I never mentioned it. I would’ve been so embarrassed if that happened and I gushed about how much I like him but… I think it’s going well. I hope he asks to be exclusive soon,” she finishes with a whisper. You suddenly sit up straight and smack the sofa. Your friends jump at the sudden action when you open your mouth and say “I’ll shove my foot up his ass if he doesn’t ask you to be his girlfriend, Rosie. I don’t give a fuck how hot he is, you’re way hotter and have a line of people knocking at your door.”
Lisa blinks, “Okay, _____. You are at a ten right now and need to take it to a two. Not everything needs to turn into a wannabe WWE match, but I agree. Rosie, if he doesn't ask you to be exclusive within the next month, drop him.”
“Okay,” Rosie sighs while looking down and playing with the hem of her dress, “I just haven’t liked someone like this in a while and I’m just… yeah. But enough about me! There’s nothing to get sad about! We have more important issues to focus on. Like _____ and Lisa being the reborn virgins of the group. Ironic since you two are the biggest hoes I know.”
Lisa groans, “I know. I’ve just been so stressed with the dance team and summer school. I haven’t had time to even rest and now the semester is starting? Bitch..” she shakes her head without finishing.
Jennie gets up and claps her hands, “Well, what are we waiting for? The Theta Chi party is the perfect time and place for you two to get some. It’s coming up soon and we need to start pampering now. It doesn’t even need to be for hooking up, it can be a good luck present for the semester starting. Now c'mon, get your shit” she says grabbing yours and Lisa’s arms and yanking you two up, “if we leave right now we can make it to the salon as a walk-in. I’ll pay for everything.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The final days leading up to a new semester were tiring. You had a short timeframe in which you had to get your financial aid sorted out, make sure you sent out the emails that needed to be sent, talked to your manager about your schedule, and mentally prepare yourself. On top of all the stress you had going on outside of work, work itself had been incredibly busy. With the upcoming start of a new school year, the store had been filled to the brim with snot nosed kids, demanding parents, and hoards of teenagers all looking for the perfect shoe. You had asked for more hours to get some extra cash, but you were starting to regret it. With the back to back scheduling and long shifts, there was no time for you to sit down and breathe.
Fortunately today, you were scheduled to do sorting in the back for the majority of your shift. Which meant you had to take inventory for an hour and sit around on your phone for the rest of it.
As you were counting how many black high tops Converses there were left and cursing the middle schoolers who never failed to sell them out early every year, you failed to notice someone walking in.
“Hey, _____. You need some help?” Jaehyun asked.
You tensed up immediately after hearing the voice and mentally cursed yourself for not washing your hair last night or doing your full makeup routine.
At least you had the decency to put on your eyebrows.
“Oh hey, Jaehyun. I didn’t know you were scheduled for today. How was your vacation?” you asked while putting on a fake smile.
Jaehyun was one of your coworkers, and also your ex-boyfriend. The funny, sweet basketball player had been working at Foot Locker way longer than you and had been the one to train you. He was the one to take you under his wing and introduce you to everyone, offered to buy you something to eat whenever you forgot to bring lunch, and the type of guy to bring everyone who was scheduled with him a drink from Starbucks.
He was everyone’s work crush, including yours.
Until he cheated on you.
“It was good,” he grinned at you, “I missed my grandparents and the rest of my family, so it was nice to see them again. But the weather here is much better than back home.”
“I’m glad you got to see them!” you said with a tone that was obvious you felt anything but glad for him.
As you were thinking about how to somehow get out of this conversation while not getting scolded by your manager for abandoning your task, Jaehyun was busy looking you up and down. The summer had definitely done you good, even if you had spent most of it at work. It hadn’t been that long since he last saw you but your skin was glowing and sun-kissed, even more than usual. There was also definitely much more ass in your jeans than from what he remembers. You already had a nice one to begin with, something he took note of whenever you climbed up the ladder to get a box of shoes too high for you in the backroom.
He remembered when you first walked into Foot Locker for an interview. It was nearly impossible not to notice you. You walked into any room and instantly commanded the attention of everyone within your vicinity. With your sun-kissed glowing skin and a gleaming smile, you had everyone watching you all the time.
The funny part was that you barely even noticed it.
Jaehyun knew of you before you had even submitted an application. Of course he knew of the pretty psychology student who nearly always got the top scores and didn’t have a stick up their ass for it. You were always willing to lend a helping hand and had the patience to explain theories and concepts for hours to someone who didn’t have a clue.
Don’t get him wrong, you were far from a pushover, and more often than not he would overhear you tell classmates the many ways you would shove a textbook up their ass if they tried to copy off you or didn’t at least try to put in an effort.
It was evident that you weren’t a pushover or afraid to ask for what you wanted. You just took a while to warm up to people and let them in close enough to see the bratty side of you.
He was lucky enough to be one of those you let in, but he had to go and fuck it all up.
Jaehyun tried again, “So, how was your summer?”
You didn’t have the time or energy for this shit. “Jaehyun,” you said sharply. “I’ve been incredibly stressed with trying to juggle my summer class, work, and social life if you’re that desperate to know. I don’t need--”
Jaehyun cut you off, “_____, I’m sorry. I just want to talk to you and explain, please.”
Conversation with Jaehyun once came as natural as breathing to you. There used to be a time where he could ask the world from you and you would do anything to give it to him. He was the person you looked forward to seeing the most, the one you wanted to see right when you woke up and before you fell asleep. And at one point he was.
You were never blind to how attractive he is. Jaehyun, with the sweet smile and tall, lean build was the kind of guy who could get people to stop and stare whenever he walked by. Hell, you had seen it happen nearly every time the both of you went walking to the food court.
After all, he was Jung Jaehyun, a university basketball player.
Which was just a kind way to say he was a fuckboy.
To make it even worse, he was a fucking frat boy. Which meant he had a reputation of sleeping his way through campus.
When he was the one to ask you out first, you had told yourself that it was just a way for him to get into your bed. After the second, third, and fourth date, you still mistook his advances as him trying to be kind to you before he hit it and quit. It was a month into the dates that he asked you to be his girlfriend. Even then, you were very cautious at the beginning of your relationship. You had dealt with your fair share of playboys like Jaehyun and weren’t afraid to bust their balls.
You actually enjoyed knocking men down a peg or two.
But Jaehyun was nothing if not persistent. He made an effort to spend as much time with you as possible and get to know you on an intimate level. The constant sleepovers at your place and late-night talks had both of you falling in love, fast and hard.
To this day, you still didn’t know why he cheated on you.
Jaehyun interrupted your thoughts, “_____?”
You shook your thoughts away, “Yeah?”
“I asked if you had any plans for the last week of summer?”
You sighed, “Look, Jaehun. I’m just exhausted thinking about the semester starting. But I’m trying to distract myself from thinking about school and worry about my social life instead. So yes, I do have plans to go out and yes, it is to the same party your frat is hosting. But I’m not going for you, so do not approach me or talk to me. Don’t even look at me. I have bigger things to worry about and I do not want to deal with the stupid questions from your stupid friends.
Like what?”
“Like what, what?”
Jaehyun scrunched his face in confusion, “You said you had bigger things to worry about. Is everything okay? Are your brothers good?”
As much as you hated to admit it, your heart fluttered. Jaehyun knew how much you cared about your younger brothers. He loved them just as much as you and liked going with you whenever you visited home, “Well yes but---”
“That’s good,” Jaehyun lets out a breath. “Look _____, I know you don’t owe me anything. I know I fucked up real bad, but please let me just explain everything. I want you to know what happened. I valued our relationship above everything and it meant the world to me. I know it might not have looked like it but--”
You snorted. Good for him, he’s self-aware.
Jaehyun flushed at your laugh. He deserved it but tried again “_____, please---”
Every sad look he sent you was sending you over the edge. Who did he think you were? You weren’t the type to let people step all over you like regardless of what Jaehyun thought. As mildly insulted as you felt over how little he thought of you, you didn’t have the type to tear a new one into him. You had shit to do or else your manager would be pissed.
“Jaehyun, I can’t do this.”
“_____, what---”
“_____.” Jumping at the sudden mention of your name, you had failed to notice a tall figure standing only feet away from Jaehyun during the conversation between the two of you.
“Xuxi,” you breathed out.
Jaehyun frowned, “Xuxi?”
“Xuxi,” the man himself said. Xuxi was staring at you with something dark, something that made you tense up and on edge for what his next move would be. He had been sent to the back to clock in and help you out with inventory when he noticed that the door was left slightly open. Xuxi had stopped when he heard Jaehyun’s voice and the exasperated tone in your voice.
When Xuxi realized Jaehyun was the one in there with you, he felt that ugly jealous feeling crawl up his chest. He didn’t want to closely examine why it was there. You weren’t his. The two of you hadn’t been close enough for him to consider you as his, but he still didn’t like the idea of you being stuck in a room with Jaehyun.
Xuxi didn’t want to harbor any ill feelings towards Jaehyun; he was his frat brother and Xuxi never had an issue with him. He already owed Jaehyun one for getting him a job here but after finding out what went down between the two of you, he lost respect for Jaehyun.
Xuxi was self-aware that he wasn’t the most romantic guy on campus nor was he the type to go steady with someone, but he would never string a girl along or cheat on her. He respected them enough to be upfront from the beginning of what he wanted and wouldn’t harbor any ill feelings if they refused to sleep with him afterward. He tried to be gentle with everyone who ever tried to pursue something serious with him.
It wasn’t well known across campus that Jaehyun and you were a couple, which confused him at first. He didn’t know why both of you kept it under wraps. If he was dating you, he’d make sure to broadcast out to the entire city. You were one of the sweetest girls he’s ever met. You weren’t stuck up or mean to anyone. He didn’t think you were aware of it, but you and he were in the same department. While you were in the Child Studies department only for a minor, he had it for his major so he spent quite a bit of time in the building. Xuxi would often see you helping out underclassmen who were very clearly overwhelmed, sharing your notes to classmates, and talking to the professors as if they were your friends. He liked seeing you brighten up the department every time you walked in.
To add the cherry on top, you were stunning. Immediately a heat curled up in his stomach when he thought about how good you looked. God, he would’ve been blind to not see how utterly gorgeous you were. Those long, toned legs and pouty lips had him captivated since day one. As well as those big, wide doe eyes of yours that gave you an innocent look when he knew you were the complete opposite.
“Hey man, how were the new soccer recruits? I swear the only times I’ve seen you in the house were when you came back tired and hungry,” Jaehyun laughed, oblivious to the growing tension in the room.
The two of you broke eye contact as Jaehyun went to give Xuxi that stupid one-armed hug boys do. You felt your entire face flush and looked at the floor while you wallowed in the embarrassment of knowing Xuxi knew you and Jaehyun had a messy breakup.
You went back to counting shoes or at least pretending to. Frankly, you had no idea what the hell it was that you were doing before Jaehyun walked in, but you were damned sure that was the last time you opened your fat mouth like that ever again at work.
“_____, you miss me?” Xuxi said.
What.
The hell is he saying, you thought.
Bracing yourself, you turned around to face him. They had moved closer to the wall with Xuxi leaning against it like he owned the damn place.
“Um. Yes,” you blinked.
Xuxi smirked at you and walked up to you. You tensed up and subconsciously held your breath for whatever his next move would be.
“C'mon don’t be like that, baby, “Xuxi said. He walked up to you and put an arm around your shoulders, “I missed you. Thought about you every time Coach let me take a break.”
You flushed at the endearment but made no move to refuse his arm. Or correct him. You had no clue what he was playing at but a guy as hot as Xuxi was calling you baby, so you didn’t have an issue with it.
You scowled up at him, “Shut up, lying ass. I heard your Coach rarely ever gives you guys breaks. Last time I heard the admin ladies talking about how some kid’s mom was threatening to sue.”
“Well that story is true,” he said grinning down at you, “but I’d never lie to you. Not to my favorite girl.”
You felt yourself blushing again at him calling you baby and for the way he was looking down at you. With him that close to you and looking down with that smile of his, you’ve never been more aware of how handsome Xuxi is.
“Oh, and Jaehyun? I heard Manager was looking for you out on the floor. Apparently, you’ve been gone for too long,” Xuxi said, giving him a smile that Jaehyun knew was strained.
Jaehyun clenched his jaw. He didn’t like the way you got all shy around Xuxi or the way your entire demeanor caused him to do a double-take. He’s seen you like this before.
It was the way you were when you used to be in love with him.
“You should get going, Jaehyun. The manager isn’t in a really good mood today. She gave me an attitude for not having the size some kid wanted. Does she not know by now that we always sell the Converses early?” you said. You rolled your eyes and continued ranting, blissfully unaware of the tension growing between the two boys.
Jaehyun saw Xuxi’s hand almost brushing your breast and could tell you either had no clue, or used to it by now.
“Yeah Jaehyun, better hurry,” Xuxi said innocently.
“Fine. But, _____,” Jaehyun walked up to you with a determined look on his face. He grabbed your wrist and gently yanked you out from under Xuxi. “I just want to talk to you. Give me just one opportunity and you’ll never see me again, okay? You already know about the party at Theta Chi. Promise me you’ll go?”
You nod. You were staring at him with a flustered look that made his heart ache.
Jaehyun leaned down to whisper, “Go look for me there, okay? Just one last time, please.”
His lips brushed against your ear before he quickly walked away. You were left stumbling for the words to reply with when he just left.
What the hell was that?
Clearing your throat, you turned around to face Xuxi who was leaning against the wall, again. This time though he had his arms crossed and was staring at the door Jaehyun exited out of. When he heard you, he directed his blank gaze to you.
There was a brief silence that felt oddly tense to you.
What the fuck was this kid’s problem, you thought.
You raised an eyebrow at him when it was clear he was just going to stare at you with a bitchy face and that made you on edge. Especially since you didn’t put in an effort to look good today
“What?,” you snapped, “Do I have something on my face?”
He didn’t reply to you right away. He searched your face for a bit until he pushed himself off the wall and walked up to you.
One of his hands comes up to your chin and grabs it gently, forcing you to look up at him. Your breath immediately stilled at his touch. His hands were so warm and so big that you were willing to bet they were bigger than your face. You tried to distract yourself with that thought so you wouldn’t focus on how insanely gorgeous he was up close, but that didn’t settle well with him.
He squeezed you so gently that you almost didn’t feel it, but you did.
When you met his gaze, he finally spoke.
“You good?” he asked. You could feel his breath tickle your lips. You were so captivated by his own lips being that close to yours that you didn’t answer until he squeezed you again. You nodded as a reply, too dazed to actually talk.
He gave you a grin and continued, “Don’t look for Jaehyun, okay? I got you. Whatever it is you need or want, I got you for it. Not him.”
You stared up at him with a surprised and innocent look on his face that only served to make him want to wreck you.
Xuxi still had a grip on you, “Good girl. I’ll come looking for you. You don’t need to go after anyone. I’ll do it. You understand me, right? You get what I’m saying?”
You avert your gaze as the words he said made you feel things that far too inappropriate for the workplace.
It had been so long for you, evident in the sudden dampness you felt between your legs that came right after he called you a good girl.
“That’s good. Of course my girl understands, you always do so good in everything. Now I’m gonna go back out there and do my job. Remember what I said, okay?”
Xuxi lets you go but of course he doesn’t do it simply. Of course he doesn’t. Simple isn’t in this man’s vocabulary. This man just had to call you a good girl and his girl in the fucking storage room at work. He just had to drag his hand down and let it trace the hollows of your throat first before stepping back and walking away from you.
You let all the tensions you didn’t know you had out of your body as you sink into the only chair there is. You don’t think about what could happen at work that much, or at all really, but you for sure never saw Huang Xuxi making you wet while on the job.

btw the xuxi in this is xuxi during the beginning of super m promos... u know... with the nice glowing brown skin and light brown hair.... whew...

Once Bitten, Twice Stupid prt 126
126
Lance knew he’d taken a turn for the worst as he shuddered on the cold stone floor. He’d thrown up so much that he knew he was definitely dehydrated and on the wrong side of hunger. His body felt lighter. Too light. And something in the darkness felt physically heavy to the point of suffocation. Groaning to himself, his eyes went wide as it came out as a squeak. His body moving as he found himself not as he should be. Tiny little legs and flapping wings were tangled in his shirt. He’d turned into a bat again... He’d let everyone down. He knew he’d been exhausted. He knew he’d had a fever. He knew Shiro was worried after their talk... and now he was showing how useless he was as he wasn’t even able to maintain his human form from how weak he felt.
Untangling himself from his shirt, a new realisation hit him as he surveyed how tiny he was compared to the space he was in. He was tiny. A quick check down showed he a chubby little belly... Right. This couldn’t be good for the twins. This shouldn’t even be possible unless... unless something had happened to them! He was starving. Their tiny masses of cells were foreign bodies... with foreign DNA in his system. Flapping his wings, he squeaked loudly. Spinning himself in a circle due to his lack of coordination. Why wasn’t anyone helping him? Was he losing Keith’s twins? He needed to switch back. Blinking at the darkness, he found himself alone in the cell. No Shiro. No Matt. No Curtis or Sam. Alone... They’d left him behind? When did they have the chance!? He didn’t want to be left behind! He wanted to go home to Keith and cuddle! He didn’t want to lose the twins! He didn’t! He’d been so careful. So careful that this wasn’t fair! He wanted his Mami and his boyfriend and cuddles... not... not Keith hating him for how weak he was!
*
Shooting up from his nightmare, Lance groaned as his body protested the sudden sitting upness. Thank fuck. Thank fuck he wasn’t a bat
“Lance?”
Taking a moment, Lance realised he was sitting with his back to Curtis now...
“Wha...”
“You fell asleep, so I moved you so your head was resting on my leg. You seemed to be having a nightmare”
Ugh. That was one way to put it. Stupid vivid dreams that had to stick in his head
“Yeah... it was... fucking awful. Don’t let me turn into a bat”
“That bad? Here, lay back. You feel slightly feverish”
“I thought I was... never mind... How long was I asleep?”
Even dreaming about losing the twins had shaken him up too much. Saying out loud would panic Shiro... Curtis was probably worrying too... He didn’t want to sink back against him, but Curtis needed the comfort
“A couple of hours. You haven’t missed anything happening other than Matt farting in his sleep”
“I’m glad I missed that. I swear there’s something dead in his intestinal tract”
“It was rather pungent. Much like being at home”
From their breathing Shiro, Matt, and Sam were sleeping. Curtis must be on guard shift. That was good. He preferred not seeming stupid in front of Sam, and not upsetting Matt
“I know this probably a silly thing to ask, but how are you doing?”
Settling himself to sit next to Curtis, Lance covered what he could of them with shiro’s jacket
“I’m not happy to be here”
“Yeah. Their hospitality sucks. I won’t be recommending this place to all my friends”
“I’m ashamed more than anything. They used a gas canister to take us out. Shiro tried to get us to the car, after Rieva was hit. He called Coran straight away, while I did nothing”
“Hey. You don’t need to be ashamed. At least you didn’t get kidnapped in front of VOLTRON”
“Yes. Well. I had hoped you’d be safe. Evidently not”
“I did try to make a recording... I opened up the app so I could record whatever Shiro said when you guys turned up... you know, as evidence or whatever. I don’t even know what happened to my phone”
“I’m sure Pidge would find it”
“Unless they’ve got it and turned it off. They could have even disposed of it on the way to throw the others off”
Being stuck here was thoroughly depressing. What a stupid notion. A vampire who didn’t want to lurk in the dark damps of an underground basement
“We can only hope the others work things out. You had some interesting ideas”
“My ideas only upset Matt. I know he’s worried about Rieva and can’t control himself right now, but like... I thought if we could combine forces we could bust out”
“The only problem with that is what’s waiting on the other side of those bars”
“Yeah, Shiro said that too. I’m worried about you guys, but I’m more worried about what this is doing to Keith... I feel like a bad friend”
“Keith is your soulmate. You have been through a lot together”
“And just when we think we’ve go a break, this goes and happens... I’m sorry. That nightmare fucked me right up”
“Want to tell me?”
“I was a bat. But like, I was panicking because I was a bat and I thought I was losing the twins... if I was a bat, I could get through the bars, then disable the power”
“We both know you’re not that coordinated”
Lance lightly jabbed Curtis in the side with his elbow
“I’ve had my moments of extreme coordination. Plus, I’m more coordinated without my glasses on”
“Barely. You’ll need blood soon”
“Don’t remind me. I never want to eat again as it is. It’s tiresome throwing up”
“The smell isn’t too pleasant”
“There’s that too. I almost miss the bag from over my head”
“I could get it...”
“Nope. I said almost. Do you really think they’ll leave us down here until I starve and vampire out?”
“I don’t think so. You’re a prime specimen. Having you out of control does them no favours”
“Unless they want to see how far they can push a breeder before having to feed them”
“Let’s not think about that. How are you feeling? Have your teeth grown back?”
“Yeah. My fangs grow back in pretty fast, not that the rest of them don’t”
“If you get hungry, let me or Shiro know... I don’t know what my blood will be like, but Shiro’s should be okay as he’s human”
He didn’t want to feed from Shiro. Nor did he want to feed from Sam. He didn’t know if feeding off Curtis was a smart idea, and Matt was out the question. Even when Keith force fed him, he didn’t want an audience to what he was... and with Keith, it was only because Keith was his boyfriend. It kind of felt like cheating if he fed off anyone else. Curtis didn’t want to hear that
“I’ll think about it. You should get some sleep. I doubt they’ll come for us anytime soon”
“I slept enough. It’s you who should be resting. We need you with as much energy as possible for whatever comes”
“If something does happen, promise you’ll get Sam and Shiro out. Matt... he’s a wolf, and I’m a vampire... but them... I can’t ask Shiro”
“We’ll all get out of this. You’ll see. We’re not leaving you behind”
*
“Keith! You’ve got to come now!”
Bursting into the briefing room, Allura startled Keith out of his self loathing flunk that not even the countless amount of coffee was helping. 24 hours with nothing. Rieva couldn’t help. They’d been gassed, all she really remembered was Shiro yelling and being shot, and had some very choice words to say about it all. It took everything had not to start screaming at her for the answers she didn’t have. Raising his aching head, Keith stared at Allura. She was too damn perky...
“What?”
“Shiro is back”
Pushing his chair back to fast it fell backwards, Keith was on his feet, a little too fast as he head throbbed. Everyone trying to talk at once
“Is dad...?”
“What about Lance?”
“Is Matt there? And Curtis?”
Allura shook her head
“Shiro, Sam, and Matt. They were left outside the bookshop unconscious”
What the hell? Where was Lance? Why was Lance not with Shiro? What the fuck did this mean? He’d felt so... he didn’t actually know the word for the relief at hearing Shiro was back, but now he felt weak at the knees seeing Lance wasn’t...
Allura turned from the room, all of them following after her, Keith the first. Shiro was back and it was finally time to find out what was going on.
Led down to VOLTRON’s infirmary, Coran had the three unconscious men laid out. Nursing staff busy around him
“Shiro!”
Going to rush to his brother’s side, Coran intercepted him
“I’m sorry, Keith. I need you to wait outside with the others”
“That’s my brother!”
“And at the moment we’re collecting their clothes and analysing what’s in their system. I know you want to be here, but we need space to work”
Shiro was right there. Right in front of him... now he was being sent away...
“Keith... It’s not like we don’t want to see Sam and Matt. Coran, thank you. We’ll wait outside”
Colleen agreeing with Coran meant Keith had no choice but to head outside with the others. She’d worked as hard as everyone else to understand what was happening, even with no leads to go on. Lotor had left, taking his generals. Allura doubting if she’d made the right call seeing he’d actually gone. With so many people in the room, Keith had found himself withdrawing more and more. He didn’t feel he had anything valuable to add. He’d watched everything at least a dozen times, only no magical leads had materialise and he’d burnt the image of Lance collapsing into his brain. Krolia had been a bigger help than he knew what to do with. She’d gone and picked up Kosmo, and now remained personally stationed with Rieva on the off chance something was to happen. If he wasn’t so hung up on Shiro finally returning, he might have thought to go tell Rieva that her boyfriend was back... Instead Pidge thought of that, her, Hunk, and Allura leaving him with Colleen to go let Rieva know.
Leaning against the wall for support, Keith kept his arms crossed and his head down as he waited for Coran to let him see Shiro. Curtis wasn’t with the others, Keith didn’t want to think the worst of his brother’s boyfriend, yet the fact he wasn’t with the others led to that little voice inside his head wondering if Curtis was the traitor. The guys who took Lance had said that Curtis confirmed the pregnant. He didn’t think Curtis had it in him to lie them, yet if they’d offered him a cure for his curse... He didn’t want to think that way, but why hadn’t he been returned with the others? Was it because he’d fused with a demon? He was the only person Keith had ever heard of to be cursed. If Curtis wasn’t the traitor then... then he and Lance could both be being tortured right now... Shiro could have been tortured. Just because he didn’t see obvious bruising didn’t mean there wasn’t any.
It’d pushed half an hour before Coran came out, the others assuming similar positions to his, only Pidge had her arms wrapped around her mother. Krolia hadn’t left her post. Kolivan had come up empty at the scene, but that didn’t mean he hadn’t spent most of the night scouring the area for clues. James and the wolf pack had nothing. Shiro had to be okay, or Keith might just lose it.
Letting himself relax, Coran smiled at the group of them
“You may go in now. They’ll be asleep for a few hours, but I know you’re desperate to see them. I’ll take the evidence we’ve collected for processing. Hopefully we’ll gain some clues as to where they’ve been held and if Lance was held with them. Before you panic, we’ve restrained Matt purely as a cautionary measure. He may... uh, as you would say, “wolf out”. Hit the red button on the wall when he wakes. I expect he won’t be under as long as Sam and Shiro”
Hunk wiped his hands on his shirt, marks left from the sweat. Almost timidly he asked Coran
“And... they’re okay? They...”
“They’ve been sedated. I would say gas was used as there is no sign of puncture marks. I’ll know more when I’ve examined their blood work. The three of them were dehydrated, I’ve set up IV fluids. I failed to find signs of bite marks, both Shiro and Sam are still human from the feeling of their quintessence and body temperature. Though, had they been changed the change would be obvious. For three men held by vampires, they’ve been exceptionally well looked after considering Matt is a werewolf and Shiro’s identity as a hunter. Right. Well, head on in. I’ll be expecting all of you to get some rest. This has been a very tiring 24 hours and until we learn more, you’re best of resting and recovering your strength”
Keith noticed the way Coran said nothing about Lance. No reassurances that because their three friends had been returned mostly safely that Lance would be found with the evidence on them or that they could expect him to be returned in the same condition. Heading into the room, he found himself stumbling the last few steps to Shiro’s side, grasping his bothers hand as he shook. Shiro was warm. He was warm and alive. He hadn’t expected him to be so warm when his brother was normally such a loud sleeper. Letting himself all but collapse against his brother, he laid his head on Shiro’s chest, listening to the strong sound of his beating heart. He’d come back to him. He’d come back to him when Keith feared he’d never see him again. But how was he back? Had even been taken by the same people who took Lance? Why would they return a hunter? What had they done to him? Was this sleep really drug induced? Or had there been some kind of incident where they’d tried escaping and Shiro had been hurt? He felt terrible for not caring for Matt and Sam as much as he did his brother. He did care about them. He did. He swore he did. He just... felt abandoned all over again. Like Shiro would never be home, or he’d come back but be like Adam. Half crazed and begging for his death.
Coming up behind Keith, Hunk wrapped an arm around his shoulder
“He’s going to be okay, man”
What did normal well adjust social people say to that?
“Thanks”
That didn’t sound quite right. Hunk sniffled
“I’m so glad they’re back”
The angry over caffeinated region of his brain wanted to slap Hunk away and yell at him because Lance wasn’t with them. The more tired part of him making impossible to get those words out
“Yeah”
It didn’t sound enthused. He should be more enthused. He was just too emotionally and physically drained
“You should get some rest. We’re going to stay until they all wake up, and no offence, man, but you look dead on your feet”
“I’m fine... I’m not leaving Shiro”
“Then at least take a nap next to him... or I can go find a chair?”
“Won’t that be weird?”
“Nah, man. He’s your brother. I’d be climbing into my brother’s bed too if he’d just come home from being kidnapped”
He wouldn’t sleep. He’d nap. Or better yet, he’d doze. That way he’d be semi awake when Matt woke up, seeing he really was the most likely to wake first.

You help clean the volleyball court as the rest of the members pack their things. Today had been a fairly good day for training. Everything went smoothly, well, as smooth as things could go in the team.
You say your goodbyes to your seniors before you head the opposite way with Tadashi and Tsukishima.
“Say, y/n-chan,” Tadashi starts and you turn to him.
“Hm?”
“How’s it going with your crush?” Tadashi asks, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively. Tsukishima remains nonchalant, though he does turn to you.
You feel your ears turn pink and you look away, afraid your eyes may reveal something clandestine.
“Nothing, still. I haven’t gathered up the courage to confess.” You chuckle nervously, rubbing the back of your head. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Tsukishima look away in disinterest, and you feel your heart break a little. Just a little though.
Tadashi sighs. “Maybe if you just told us we could help you!” He pokes your side with his elbow.
“N-no, no thanks. I feel like that would just make things even more complicated, and I wanna do it on my own terms.” You give Tadashi an apologetic smile, letting your eyes glance over to a certain blond for a split second.
That was an understatement. Telling Tadashi would make things much much more complicated, considering your crush was none other than the snarky blonde on the opposite side of your small group.
“Okay, I can respect that.”
The rest of the walk is silent, and Tadashi eventually branches off to his street, leaving you alone with the one and only Tsukishima.
You could never really pinpoint when you started having a crush on Tsukishima. Next to Tadashi, you’ve known him the longest, so it’s definitely hard to say when it exactly started, given all the time you’ve spent together.
However, if you were asked, you’d probably say sometime before high school. When you realised it, you were terrified to say the least. Falling for the crankiest person you know isn’t exactly ideal.
Furthermore, Tsukki never really showed interest in romance, so for all your years of friendship, you don’t know anything about his preferences or his tells.
Recently, you’ve grown hyper aware of your emotions, due to spending even more time with him as an assistant manager of the volleyball club. It’s quite the miracle that you’re not a tomato now given your close proximity to the him.
“Oi, don’t think too much, you might use your last brain cell.” A cool voice breaks you out of your reverie.
You huff and pout. “Tsukishima, you’re so mean. I have more than one brain cell you know. I can afford to think.”
“I’m surprised you even have one left, with how you were looking earlier with physics.” He snickers.
You slap his arm. “Well not all of us have an unlimited supply, you know. I have to make do with what I have.”
“Two brain cells?” He snickers once again.
You roll your eyes playfully. “Yes, thank you very much.”
“Both working?”
“Okay, now that’s just mean.” You cross your arms over your chest. “I can’t help it if one of them decidedly thinks about–my crush.” You quickly save yourself the slip up of nearly saying ‘you’. You give yourself an internal pat on the back.
Seeing as you’ve entered the topic of your ‘crush’, you take the rare opportunity to subtly ask him about it. “Say, Tsukishima, if a girl were to confess to you, how would you want it to go, ideally?”
“I’d want her to make me king of the Japan, before gifting me with an Ankylosaurus army to take over the world with. Maybe a torture chamber for the king and the shrimp.”
You scoff. “That’s ridiculous, you can’t even ride an Ankylosaurus, how the hell would you use it to take over the world?”
You hear what you can only think of as a chuckle from Tsukishima. “It’s more plausible than the question you’re asking me. Of all the people, really. Do I look like a person who cares about that stuff?”
“Well, I just thought, you’re a guy, you ought’a know, right? I’m sorry for assuming the best of you.” You huff out again.
“It doesn’t matter anyway, it’s all gonna end the same anyway.”
“How’s that?”
He smiles positively, and your heart is filled with hope, confused hope, but hope nonetheless.
“I’d happily reject them.”
Your face falls. “You really are a horrible person.” You grumble.
“I don’t really care for romance. I think it’s useless and burdening, all that obligation and responsibility and for what? Just so you can feel validated by another person? I can do that for myself, and it’d be cheaper too. Plus, it’ll save me from all that nasty crying once we break up.” He replies coldly, and you feel your heart shatter.
The way he says it doesn’t help. He says it with so much disdain that you can’t help but think about how stupid you are for thinking that that you could ever have a chance with him.
You manage to keep your tears in and your face straight. You can’t look him in the eyes without bursting so you opt for the road ahead of you instead. You feel relief as you catch sight of your house in the distance.
The walk there is filled with nothing but uncomfortable silence. Tsukishima has his headphones on and his face is the same.
‘So that’s how he feels…’ You can’t help but replay his words over and over in your head, and you feel your heart break every time. The only thing keeping the dam together was the embarrassment you now you’d feel if it were to break right now.
With your house only a few paces away, you quicken your steps. “See you tomorrow, Tsukishima.” You manage to say goodbye without stuttering and you don’t dare look back, for fear that he’ll notice the welling tears in your eyes.
‘…useless and burdening…’
‘…it’ll save me from all that nasty crying once we break up…’
You run through the door. Too focused on not sobbing, you don’t notice how Tsukishima’s gaze followed you as you ran, nor the concerned look in his eyes.
Turns out, you may have lied to Tsukishima. You didn’t see him the next day, or the day after that, or the rest of the week for that matter. Well, technically, you did. But you avoided all interaction with him at all costs.
What he said really stung, and while you know it’s not really his fault maybe his parents’ but that’s for another story and it’s not exactly fair to just start ignoring him altogether, it’s also not fair that you fell in love with possibly the world’s most emotionally unavailable man but you aren’t complaining are you? Okay, maybe you are, but that’s besides the point. You’re not ready to face him yet, and you won’t until you are.
The classes you had together were spent with you surrounded by many other people. During volleyball practice, you always arrived when they were deep into training, and you left early as well, with the excuse of having to take care of your brother. You stopped walking home with Tadashi and Tsukishima.
Even during their breaks, you’d be so engrossed in something, be it homework or strategy that they couldn’t even disturb you, which they found strange since you never really were the most diligent student (read: you’re a known lazy ass).
All of the members, save for one particular blonde, tried to talk to you, but you simply waved it off as stress from school. None of them believed you, you know, but they got the message and decided against bothering you for more information.
It’s Saturday and your solid plan of sleeping in is effectively ruined by your phone ringing.
“I swear, I turned off all my alarms, who the fuck calls at–” you glance at your clock, “–six o’clock on a Saturday morning.”
You groan and grab your phone. For a moment you consider throwing it against the wall and going back to sleep.
“Hello, you’ve reached the Devil, how may I help you?” You croak. “Oh, you want to go to hell? Why, stay on this line and you will soon!” You hiss out and look at the caller ID.
SnarKei (+81) 22 37632
Okay, you admit, you feel a certain satisfaction at snarking him. Just a little.
“Aw, did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?” He replies in a mocking cutesy voice. “Did the inevitable happen? Have you already been rejected?”
That stings you, and you mumble to yourself. “Something of the sort.” You’re not sure if he hears you though, and you really don’t care. Nope. Not. At. All.
You are met with silence, so you assume that he didn’t hear you, or else he most likely would have poked more fun at your still-bleeding wound.
“What do you want, Tsukishima?”
“Of course you’d forget. You have the memory of a goldfish.” Tsukishima comments bluntly. “We have Saturday training today, goldfish.”
“This early in the morning? Why don’t I remember this being announced?” You yawn and get up from bed.
“Yes, this early, because a big match is near. And you’d remember if, aside from your goldfish memory, you’d actually stayed until the end of training to hear announcements.” You can practically feel Tsukishima looming over you with his scary deadpan.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. Tell coach I apologise for being late. I’ll be there in–” You yawn once more. “30 minutes.”
“Make sure you shower well. I can smell your stink from here.” Tsukishima’s infamous smirk pops in your mind and you subconsciously sneer.
“You’re just smelling yourself.” You retort and end the call. You feel your heart ache, and sigh. At least it’s been reduced to a dull ache now, however troublesome.
‘I’m sure I’ll get over this. Maybe in a week or two.’ You think to yourself as you enter the shower.
You believe you just lied to yourself.
You hear no sound from the gym, and the lights are off.
You check your watch just to be sure.
7:30 am
‘Okay, what the hell?’ You peek through the windows, maybe they’re practicing with the lights off? That wouldn’t explain the lack of squeaking shoes and balls dropping, though.
“You’re late.”
You jump and turn around. You’re ready to grab the pepper spray in your right boot when you identify the would-be-predator as Tsukishima.
“You scared me.” You breathe out, putting a hand on your racing heart in an attempt to calm it down. It doesn’t stop racing though.
Tsukishima feigns hurt. “What, with my beautiful voice?”
You roll your eyes and fight a smile. “Why’d you tell me there was training?”
“Because otherwise you wouldn’t have come and I wouldn’t find out why you’re avoiding me.” He states it as if he were talking about the weather, rather cheerfully. But you sense the hostility behind that cheerfulness, as any person would.
“I don’t know–” You start talking, but you stop as Tsukihima walks slowly towards you. He stops when he’s only a step away, and you’re suddenly extremely aware of your closeness and his unjust height advantage.
“…what you’re talking about.” You continue in a smaller voice, feeling yourself overwhelmed by Tsukishima’s presence and size.
He continues to loom over and look down on you.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” You tentatively look into his eyes, and immediately look away. His golden-brown eyes are intense, and you’re scared that if you look for a second more you won’t be able to look away.
“Because I don’t like liars.”
You snort instinctively. “That’s ironic. Part of your role is deceiving.”
He shrugs. “Deceiving and lying are two different things.”
“Lying is deceiving.” You point out. You don’t notice that you are able to meet his eyes as you challenge him.
“But deceiving is not always lying.” He smirks back, and the two of you get into a staring contest.
You stare into his eyes and you feel yourself getting lost. You look away first, afraid of what might happen or what you might say if you don’t. You fail to notice his faltering smirk.
“So, I assume you didn’t just bring me here for semantics?” You cross you arms over your chest. Your previously calmed heart starts racing again.
Tsukishima takes a small step closer, and you instinctually take one back. “I told you, goldfish, I want to find out why you’re avoiding me.”
His gaze never leaves your face, and you’re painfully aware of it, so much so that you will your eyes to look at anything but his. You’re tempted to look back, but you know once you do, all your walls will fall.
‘This is so unfair.’ You think to yourself as you start over-analysing Tsukishima’s shoes.
“Why don’t you look me in the eye? Afraid of what you might say?” He taunts you. He’s testing waters, and by the looks of it, he know he’s hit the bullseye.
“N-no. I’m perfectly confident with my words, thank you.” You reply, swallowing the bile in your throat.
He scoffs. “Prove it. Look at me.”
You feel your ears tingle and you attempt to resist, but your pride doesn’t allow it. Reluctantly, you meet his eyes, and you immediately regret it.
They’re fierce and intense, his golden eyes, even more so than before. Your breath is taken away and you forget what you were about to say.
“Let’s try this one more time,” Tsukishima takes another, larger step forward, and you take one back, or at least, attempt to. Your back hits the wall, and before you know it, you’re cornered. His places his right arm next to your head as he leans over you. You can almost feel his minty breath on your face.
Out of the corner of your eye, you notice that he doesn’t place his left arm on the other side.
‘He’s giving me a way out.’ You think, and you can’t help but internally smile. He doesn’t want to force you into anything you don’t want, but he’s putting pressure on you. You bit your inner cheek in an attempt to ground yourself.
“Why have you been avoiding me since we last walked home together?” His voice is softer this time, but his intensity doesn’t waver. An emotion flashes in his eyes, you’re not sure what it is. Uncertainty? Hurt?
You swallow the bile in your throat. You feel like you just ran a marathon and your face seems to think so too, if the rising heat in your cheeks is anything to go by.
“I–I…” You fumble around for words, unsure of what to say. The golden irises staring into your soul surely isn’t making it any easier.
‘So much for my two working braincells..’ You say to yourself.
Your brain nearly overheats in attempting to make an excuse. Instead, it settles for giving your irrational courage to confess once and for all.
Knowing what you’re going to say, you are unable to look him in the eyes and deflate
“I was hurt…” You whisper softly, feeling the tears well in your eyes. “…by what you said.”
“Why?” He asks, quieter this time.
You sigh defeatedly. There’s no point in delaying it now. You feel all the “healing” you went through in your time away dissipate into thin air. The once dull ache is now a stabbing pain in your chest, but you soldier on.
“Because I like with you. And I idiotically thought that maybe you felt the same way. Yes, it’s dumb. You don’t have to reject me, I know what your answer is, you’ve made yourself perfectly clear about it and–”
You’re interrupted by a pair of lips pressing against yours. It takes a second for it to register. Until it does.
You hear yourself internally screaming as Tsukishima slowly rises from his awkward position and straightens his back, forcing you to turn your head upwards and tip toe.
Tsukishima realises this and smirks. He straightens up even more, just a touch too high for your lips.
You don’t even notice that your eyes are closed until you open them to see Tsukishima’s annoying smug face.
“I never grasped how small you are until now.” He teases, and you feel his cool breath brush against your skin.
You’re too flustered to make a retort, and you’re pretty sure your face is red. You take another moment to let the previous events sink in.
‘Tsukishima…. Kissed… Me…’
He snorts. “Have your two braincells short-circuited?” He gazes down on you, and you see, behind his teasing, is genuine worry.
“You kissed me…” You blink multiple times, and a smile forms on your face as Tsukishima raises a brow. “…first.”
A giddy smile takes over your face, because of the fact that you just stated and the fact that Tsukishima is blushing right now. For once, you aren’t the one avoiding eye contact.
“You kissed me first.” You teased, tipping your toes even more to get a closer look at his blushing face.
“Only because you were putting words in my mouth and you wouldn’t stop.” He mumbles, giving you a sideways glance before looking away as he blushes even more,
You giggle. “Technically, I was putting your words into your mouth. Besides, what was all that ‘I don’t care for romance’ stuff you said?” You poke his warm cheek playfully.
“It’s called lying. And techinically, you confessed first.” It’s your turn to blush and Tsukishima’s to smugly smirk as he pokes your cheek back.
“So, what does this mean? And since when did you figure it out, given this whole set-up?” You mumble, fiddling with the edge of your white shirt with a red “shut up” written on it.
“It means I like you back, even if you have a goldfish brain, goldfish. And you weren’t exactly subtle with the way you got upset last time.” He pokes your cheek once more. His face is back to it’s regular nonchalant state, but you see a twinge of playfulness in his eyes.
You cross your arms over your chest and pout, sneering at him. “I don’t have a goldfish brain. How could I forget something that never existed?”
“You can’t. Who said anything about training not existing?” He raises a brow.
“Didn’t you call me here to get me to confess?” You deadpan at the memory. “Coward.” You mumble under your breath.
Tsukishima smirks. “I did. But there is training, just not for the university.”
As if on cue, you hear a loud bickering noise.
You both turn to the source and find the old Karasuno team, complete with Hinata and Kageyama bickering.
You beam at the sight and turn to Tsukishima. You nearly tackle him into a hug, regardless of how he may feel about hugs.
He looks away with a light blush dusting his features once more. He uses his free hand to pat you on your head.
“Happy birthday, goldfish.”

166 - Delta
The stars tell us our future. They’re rarely correct, but yet there they are, blathering on night after night. Welcome to Night Vale.
At the foot of a sandy hill, a woman explains to her son what a flower is. She’s pointing at an orange starburst atop a squat bulbous cactus. She says: “Flowers are beautiful, aren’t they?” I cannot hear what her son says. She answers: “Because bees like beautiful things and flowers want the bees to take their pollen, that little bit of yellow powder, right down there inside, and give it to other plants, so they can grow up and be beautiful too.” There’s a long pause. Then she says: “Nature wants to make more and more beauty all the time. That’s all it wants to do. If it is not beautiful, it cannot live.” She’s upset at her son’s next question. “Humans wish to make beauty too, but not for nature,” she snaps. “They want computers and airplanes and factories, oh Benny, don’t touch.” She sighs. Then she says: “The cactus hurt you, didn’t it? The cactus knows you’re human and it does not want you to watch it, and now it has let you know that, you won’t touch it again, will you? No Benny, you won’t.”
Underneath the scant shade of a dilapidated wing of an MD-90 aircraft, a middle aged man tells another middle aged man about a time he went to New Orleans. He thought the French Quarter was too crowded and the jazz scene overrated, so he drove east along the upper neck of the Mississippi Delta to a Swapshack, where he paid a man 50 dollars to take him on a hovercraft to look at alligators. “Such majestic and hideous creatures,” the middle aged man says to the other. “You know, when I was little, I cried thinking about how I would never see a real live dinosaur. All the world had left were bones. But right there in southern Louisiana lay dozens of living dinosaurs. It’s an extraordinary world when you finally realize that all life is magic,” he says. The other middle aged man had heard the story dozens of times, but still he replies: “I hear you, I hear you.”
A young woman thinks about a job interview she never attended. She is happy without that job, yet she feels regret for what could have been. “I cannot imagine myself behind a desk making spreadsheets and memos,” she says to no one. “But I cannot imagine a 5-dimensional horse, nor the width of the void, nor the language of whales. I cannot imagine a lot of things but the pay, the pay would have been pretty good.”
Behind a blighted Palo Verde Tree, hidden between lush acacia shrubs, two teenaged boys kiss for the 50th time or so. It is brief, as one stops to look around, on alert for overbearing parents. They kiss for the 51st time or so and then laugh. Their fingers clumsily fumbling over each other, trying to decide on the perfect grip, the perfect touch. They melt like marshmallows in the flame of inexperienced joy. This moment in their lives is as pure and powerful as they have ever felt and may ever feel again.
My mind is crowded with voices, with people living their lives all day listeners. these are the stories, they are eating fruit and playing cards. They are arguing about who said what and when. They are meditating and conversing, retelling old shows and books they remember from when they had such things. A copy of Tina Fey’s memoir “Bossy Pants” was found in a suitcase seven years ago, and everyone in the group has read it at least once. Someone mutters that they used to have a copy of Karen Russel’s “Swamplandia!”. It was in her purse when they landed here, but someone won’t own up to stealing it. another says the book might have been used to make a fire one night, because whoever made the fire might have thought the owner was done reading it, hypothetically.
It’s been several days since the voices came into my head, and at first it was new and interesting, but already I have grown tired of it. I do not know how Amelia Anna Alfaro lived her whole life with these sounds in her mind. It’s unceasing and I’ve not gotten much sleep. The teenage lovers sneak away each night to hold hands and talk big dreams underneath the moon. It’s sweet and romantic, but at 2 AM, give it a rest boys! I could try to talk back, but none of the voices can hear me. It’s like asking the rain to return to its cloud. But when I talk to Carlos, the voices go way. Thankfully I have my greatest peace when I’m with my favorite person. I can’t keep Carlos awake at all hours or have him skip work to be with me, so I have to learn to make peace with the voices, as they are noisy but permanent room mates in my brain now.
I do have news to report, but it’s mostly stuff you already know about. The high school basketball team has tryouts on Saturday. The library is doing open mic poetry nights on Tuesdays at 7, and we all know it’s a trap. Don’t do it unless you’re well armed. And the Opera House is extending its run of Verdi’s “2 Fast 2 Furious”, starring Renée Fleming, through the end of the month.
It’s hard to concentrate on reading these news stories with so much other language running through my head. Like this: there’s a guy who’s complaining about metal scraps that haven’t been cleaned, and the woman he’s talking to is explaining that they are conserving water for drinking and the guy is saying that it’s unsanitary to make dining utensils out of dirty metal, and she replies that they’re not making any more forks or spoons, they don’t need any more forks or spoons, they need knives but not for eating. What am I supposed to do with this information, it’s been going on nonstop for days? You cannot possibly understand what its’ like to listen to someone you don’t know, who you’ve never even met, who you can’t even see, ramble on and on about their boring personal life straight into your head, it’s awful. I can hear another person saying he’s found something. Good for you pal, way to find another rock or stick or lizard or whatever.
Wait. “Weeeee have founnnnnd ittt,” the voice says. I know this voice. It’s the first voice that’s been familiar to me, where do I know this voice, he is saying “first weeeeeeeee found you. You who are – no where – now weeeeeee have founnnnnnnd itt.” And other men are barking in agreement. Listeners, that voice is Doug Biondi from the asylum, and the voices around him are the agents from the National Safety and Transportation Bureau, all of whom escaped the Night Vale Asyulm two months ago. They are in nowhere, in an otherworld desert standing near a door attached to no building. Not far from a passenger set, long since rotted away. A jet that has been home to 143 passengers and crew members, one of those 143 – the pilot. Asylum warden Charles Rainier warned us of this. He had been a been a passenger on that plane, he became part of a small commune that grew into an angry cult under the leadership and telepathic influence of the pilot. Charles told us that the pilot would find those who could help him find Night Vale. Help him find the real world, and Doug Biondi knows the way back.
The pilot found Doug and Doug found the pilot. “Iii know the wayyy,” Doug Biondi says, laughing the laugh of a man whose smile is too big for his face. At the foot of a sandy hill, a mother tells her son it is time. “Stop crying, Benny. Stop crying so that there will be more flowers, more beauty.”
Underneath the scant shade of a dilapidated wing of an MD-90 air craft, two middle aged men argue over which hand made axe is sharper. At last, they agree that the one crafted from the rotor flap and held together with the hand belt is the better blade. “No you take it,” one says. “No, I insist you, I’m happy to use the smaller axe,” the other says, “because it is easier to manage what with my back spasms.”
And behind a blighted Paolo Verde Tree, hidden between lush acacia shrubs, two teenage boys kiss the way you kiss when you think it may be your last. They whisper impossible promises and raise high their rusty shovels, the spades’ tips having already been sharpened to deadly points. They race toward the gathering crowd.
A young woman who thinks often about the job interview she never attended shouts: “Nature is beauty!” “We are beauty!” replies antoher woman. They repeate these calls. “Nature is beauty! We are beauty!” And now every voice in my head is chanting the phrases, chanting and chanting and chanting, it’s too… it’s too much!
Silence. They’re silent suddenly. My head is clear. I can think my own thoughts.
Night Vale, I’m getting word that Sheriff Sam is barring all known passages into our town. This includes roads, trails, sewer grates, even the Dog Park which is not officially an entrance to the Desert Otherworld, but you know, let’s be honest here. We’re on lockdown, Night Vale. No one enters or leaves.
Good. This is good. If the voices can reach me, they can reach any of us. In fact, if the voices can enter my mind, then the pilot and passengers of flight 18713 may well already be here, or some of them anyway. Or maybe the voices come and go. This is the first moment of silence I’ve had alone in nearly a week. Maybe the voices aren’t always there like, like radio signals as you leave a city or, or a cell phone in an elevator, maybe the voices can’t permeate us under certain conditions or maybe… Or maybe… The voices are silent because… they are listening. Maybe they’re listening to their leader, their pilot who is giving instructions on what to do next, when and where to attack.
I don’t know. But I must use my moment of clarity to tell you some news. Nope, the voices are back. A single voice is back. I know, without knowing, that it is the voice of the pilot. He says: [in a neutral tone] “Uh, hi there, this is your pilot speaking. Just wanted to let you know that nature is beauty, we are beauty. We propagate our pollen, we spread our seeds, we grow new life over old life, we cleanse the toxins of technology. We depose the human king and return natural instinct to its rightful throne. If you can hear my voice, then you are chosen. You are chosen to join all who join our nature. All who join our beauty. All who refuse will be recycled into the earth, destroyed and dispersed to fertilize new more beautiful life. All those who are beautiful are chosen. All those who are not, are a cancer, blight, infection and disease. All who are not beautiful will be cut away, amputated, so that the Earth’s wounds may finally leave, so the Earth may grow beautiful once again.
We have been found and we will return. Open the gates to freedom, end the tyranny of artifice. That’s all for now, we’ll be arriving in just a few moments, Night Vale. There is going to be some turbulence.”
[distraught] I’m sorry, listeners! I did not meant to do that, I did not want to do that! The voice of the pilot overtook me and I, oh, I need to lock myself inside the studio, I have to protect you from me, but first the weather.
[“A Prayer for the Sane” by Danny Schmidt http://dannyschmidt.com]
I brought Carlos to the studio. When I talk to Carlos, I don’t hear the voices of the passengers from 18713. I don’t hear the voices even now as I look directly at Carlos while I’m speaking. Like Charles Rainier’s fishing hole or, or Amelia Anna Alfaro’s puzzles, Carlos grounds me, lets me be wholly me.
Thank you, Carlos.
Oh, I also had Carlos bring a pair of handcuffs with him that he bought at –Target on his way to the station, and used them to shackle me to my desk. If Charles Rainier is correct, then once the pilot can speak to you, he can control you. And if that should happen, it won’t happen but if it should, then now I won’t be able to leave here and do harm to anyone else.
From my window, I can see far down the street a spiral of black smoke. There are flashes of emergency sirens. Now I can see people coming up the road. They are long-haired, sun-scorched and nearly naked, wearing not much more than flat wide-brimmed hats and short tunics fashioned from seat upholstery. These people are carrying large blades, roughly honed from scrap metal. Some have widdled down pieces of plexiglass windows into sharp points and tied them to ends of long sticks. They’re deliberately walking up the hoods of parked cars and smashing windows and caving in the roofs with their bare feet.
It is no doubt that the passengers of 18713 are here, Night Vale. If you can hear me, sty inside and lock your doors. If you can her the pilot, then do as I have done. Secure your position so securely that not even your own mind can talk you out of it. Sheriff Sam has stubbornly kept up all roadblocks in and out of town, so we have no choice but to stay. The long unmoving lines of traffic at the edges of the city are easy prey now for the 18713. The pilot offered the choice of joining or refusing, but it is not a choice, not really. He either can control you or he cannot. Those whom he cannot control will be killed at the hands of those who can.
[anxiously] Carlos? You don’t hear the pilot voice, and thus cannot be controlled. But I do, and I can. I have been controlled. We’re in trouble, Carlos. I can’t stay chained to this desk forever, can I? And if the pilot means to destroy you, he might make – me do it myself. Just promise me you’ll run. Leave me behind if that happens, OK? OK. But for now, do not let me out of these cuffs, not even if I use a safe word, which I hear is something quite a few people use in healthy fun intimate relationships.
The people of 18713 are climbing up storefronts and tearing off signs. I can see about 10 or 15 in normal street clothes in the crowd now, which means the group is growing. They are recruiting quickly.
But something else is eating at me. In the asylum, in Doug Biondi’s journal and among the myriad voices in my mind, I still have not seen nor heard Amelia Anna Alfaro, the first person to make contact with the pilot. She disappeared in 2012 and no one has heard from her since. I need to find her. Somehow, if anyone can solve this, it might be her. She was always the best at everything.
Stay tuned next for the sound of me talking to Carlos forever and ever.
Good night, Night Vale. [creepily] Gooood night.

Twin Snowflakes pt17: Alone time
Eliza:I can’t believe your recklessness sometimes.
Valerie:I wasn’t going to actually fight her.
Eliza:You were seconds away from performing a suplex.
Valerie:Pfft, not like it would’ve worked.
Eliza:Not even disputing it huh? Need I remind you of your position in this school? Many students see you as a positive role model; especially the sports team. The upperclassmen included. You set an example for others so lead them well.
Valerie:I’m not as good or enjoy rubbing elbows with people as you. Semblance or not, it’s not like I’m the kind of person who starts a conversation.
Eliza:(Shooting your mouth off at someone is starting a conversation. Team speeches are-) Ugh, be that as it may, looking good by doing good is all I ask of you. It increases morale
Valerie:Oh yeah? Then why record the match yesterday?
Eliza turned her head and looked at Val. The athlete’s .eyes held a glimmer of agitation and anxiousness.
Eliza:Oh I see now, so that’s why you’re more aggressive than usual. Getting caught by Nicholas must be so irritating for the girl who’s supposed to be better than him; another check box on the list of ways he makes your life easier.
Valerie:Don’t talk like you know me.
Eliza:I know pride and jealousy when I see it. Or maybe, it’s something else entirely? If you’re letting my little comment from the other day bother you then I suggest you dismiss it. As for the video, originally I was going to use it to study the three of you for the tournament.
Valerie:WHAT!?
Eliza:It’s no different than a sports team watching the other team’s previous games. Then another thought occurred, this school would get a lot of traction if three sophomores took down such a complex piece of tech. It’s bound to spook some people who also plan on joining the tournament.
Valerie:You used us as a scare tactic? That’s...underhanded and yet, completely fair?
Eliza:Anything to ensure I remain in the top three. I will not spend time dealing with riff raff when my two biggest threats share the same bus as me. Consider that video an appreciation of all your skills, and a reminder of the eyes on you. Don’t slip up.
Valerie:I never do. It would be pretty interesting to see you beat Nick. I look forward to your challenge.
Eliza:You sound like Nick isn’t a threat.
Valerie:He isn’t. Granted his swordplay has gotten better and he has that new trick, but I haven’t been slacking off either. I’ve kicked his butt all my life and I’m sure I can do it again.
Her eyes told a different story. Eliza could tell that through all that confidence, the smallest glimmer of doubt had shown itself. She made sure to take note of it.
Eliza:Famous last words. The idea of Nick winning is a world that could exist; experience in loss is vaster than in victory.
Valerie:*grits teeth* Can we stop talking about Nick for onc-
“Val?” Called out the boy in question. The two girls turned around to see the boy walking over in their school’s simple white and gray P.E. uniform. He wasn’t sweaty like Valerie, but something seemed a little...off.
Eliza:Speak of the devil and he shall appear.
Nick:Says the girl in pigtails. Might as well call them horns. Anyways hey Val, didn’t know you were at school today. Had me a little worried this morning.
Valerie:Yeah well...I slept a little late.
Nick:But...you’re in your P.E. clothes. Summer has the class as you so-
Valerie:I wasn’t terribly late. Just enough to miss homeroom.
Nick:Ah. Getting up was pretty rough for me this morning too. That Paladin took everything out of me! My body felt like lead. How are you holding up?
Valerie:I’m fine…
Nick:Really? That hit looked really-
Valerie:I said I’m fine, Nick! Stop worrying about me!
If the halls were crowded then that would’ve drawn a crowd. Instead her brash words echoed, making its own form of weird tension. Eliza took that as her queue to leave, while Nick stood there a bit spooked. Even Valerie was shocked at her tone.
Valerie:Sorry, I uh, yelling was an accident.
Nick:It’s, it’s okay. Hey you umm, are you mad at me by any chance? I only ask since Summer sorta did what you...just did; if I did something wrong-
Valerie:You didn’t. (Like usual) Can you give me a bit of space though? I’d like to have a bit more time to myself.
She hadn’t realized it, but Valerie just snitched on herself. Nick kept a neutral face, ‘overslept huh?’ The thought lingering a bit before giving a small smile. Suddenly he felt a little awkward, randomly swaying and folding his arms as if to shake off the feeling.
Nick:Alright, if that’s what you need. Still on to study tomorrow or…?
Valerie:I think I got it covered.
Nick:Cool, cool...see you around then I guess? Or not, I don’t know. I should head back now. Harriet must notice how long I’ve been taking by now, so, yeah… *stepping away*
Valerie:...Nick?
Nick:What’s up?
Valerie:Your face, it’s a bit pale. Get some rest okay? Seriously.
At least he knew she still cared. He gave her a thumbs up and started walking away again, but then whipped back around before she was out of sight.
Nick:Hey one more thing! I thought you should know Veronica is here so please, don’t beat each other up in the halls, rooms, or anywhere really. No touching at all would be nice.
Valerie:I already bumped into her.
Nick:Really? I don’t see bruises.
Valerie:Shut up, we didn’t fight. I could tell she was looking for one, or an excuse to let off steam.
Nick:What does that mean?
Valerie:She was looking much like herself. That annoyingly cocky attitude was a bit more...catty, for a lack of a better word. Atlas air must be disagreeing with her or something.
Nick:Yeah….or something…
xxxx
Veronica hadn’t moved. The young designer found herself still leaning up against the lockers, concentrating immensely. Her skull felt like it was under a jackhammer while her heartbeat sped up like a hummingbird. God she was so hungry, and the cafeteria scent…
‘In and out Veronica. Just keep your breathing in and out’ she told herself constantly. ‘You’re halfway through the day. You can do this…’
Bright side about this predicament was it seemed no one wanted to test her. She imagined that her entire attitude must seem pretty scary right about now. Good.
Her attempt to stay out of further trouble was unfortunately short lived when the scent of fresh sweat and body spray invaded her nostrils. That was a smell in any school, one that always ment the arrival of her least favorite kind of person.
Two sets of footsteps steadily got closer until they stopped right in front of her. Veronica looked up to see two boys in blue letterman jackets stand before her. One boy was tannish and had a well kept brown crew cut, his height towering over her but his build seemed similar to Nick. His eyes a shade of hazel that made the cocky grin on his face that was more punchable.
The other boy was taller, at least 6’3 and built like a wall. Veronica couldn’t fathom the amount of protein shrinks he might drink. He was pale compared to the first one and had orangey brown hair that was a crew cut that had less taken off on the sides and more grown out. His eyes were a dark green and though he didn’t look as cocky, his presence was enough for Veronica to know he thought that he was the big man on campus.
The first jacket said ‘Diabhalta’ while the second read.‘Winchester.’ That name was familiar from earlier. Nick had mentioned it when speaking to Eliza.
Whoever they were, Veronica wasn’t in the mood for this shit. It’s like she was a beacon for annoying jocks.
Veronica:May I help you, or are you just going to keep staring like a dead fish?
Diabhalta: Hey hey, take it easier there mittens. Just doing a little thinking, wondering if it would be a cat call if you gave me your number. That sort of thing.
Winchester:Laying it on a little thick there, Darren.
Darren:Oh I’m just trying to break the ice Maxie. A little humor to make that pretty face smile.
Veronica:If this is you breaking the ice then no wonder Atlas is so cold. Not interested, now scram.
Max:Sweetheart, curve the attitude. Obviously you’re new here but FYI, underclassmen show more respect.
Veronica:You’re not respecting my space.
Max:You’re not respecting our locker space.
Okay, this time she was in the jocks territory and not purposely seeked out. Maybe her luck was just bad? Veronica sidestepped out of the way and decided to leave. While Max opened his locker.
Veronica:My bad…
Max:Yeah it is.
Darren:Hey hey hey, hold on second here. “My bad” is a pretty half assed apology. Don’t you wanna try something a little more...hospitable? Maybe a cute little curtsy or something? No, well the view of you leaving is pretty nice so I shouldn’t complain.
Veronica: Fuck. Off.
Darren:Ooo kitten has claws.
He starts to follow behind her.
Max: ‘I swear he’s going to end up in prison’ Stop skirt chasing the literal puss and get your shit man.
Darren:I’m just trying to get to know the lady a little. Is that so bad?
Veronica:Darren was it? Listen to your friend and buzz off before you get actual claws, got it?
Darren:Ooo how scrappy. I don’t mind a little pain. That’s why I win medals for this place. Isn’t that right Maxie?
Max:If you need my help to get her attention then it’s probably a sign you’re trying too hard.
Veronica: ‘At least that one has a few brain cells”
Max:Besides, shouldn’t you aim for a girl that’s more… appealing?
That caught her attention. Turning around would’ve been reckless. There was no need to entertain these two, yet she couldn’t help herself.
Veronica: ‘Fuck this guy’ Was that a comment on my looks, or my features?
Max:Can’t say, all I know is what I see, and what I see is oh so not worth any time or effort. Why Darren is giving you the time of day,I’ll never understand.
Darren:Dude!
Veronica:Hmph, whatever. I should expect as much from you. At least you’re more charming than your father.
Max:Tsk, What did you-
Veronica:Goodbye. *walks away*
Darren:Hey! You can’t just disrespect him like that! Are you even listen- hey!
Veronica:Maybe if you learned to leave a girl alone then-
Her words got caught in her throat. Veronica thought they had gotten the message. That they wouldn’t bother her anymore and silently curse her names like others; the pain that ran through her tail said otherwise.
Veronica could start to feel her blood start to boil as she turned back around to see, to feel Darren gripping her tail with his disgusting hands. Max had closed his locker but didn’t look confrontational. No, he looked alarmed.
“Darren I think you overstepped.” He put his things down.
“I overstepped!? She’s the one running her mouth and mentioning your family like she knows anything.”
Veronica’s eyes matched that of a feline and her barely came out above a whisper. “You have three seconds to let go…”
Unfazed, he tightened his grip. “Or wha-”
Time was up. Darren couldn’t even finish the word before he felt the back of Veronica’s fist make a clean contact with the right side of his face, knocking spit and his body into the lockers.
“Darren!”
The boy was too dazed to respond or react to the feeling of the smaller girl tackling him to the ground as Veronica began to wail on him. Repeatedly throwing punch after punch in a fit of anger. Until Darren headbutted her off.
Now he was pissed. He got up and threw a punch that was quickly stopped by Max. “What the hell man!”
“That doesn’t end well for you!”
“It won’t for her either!”
Veronica ran back at him without thinking and was kicked right in the stomach, falling backwards for only a second before charging again.
Max tugged Darren behind him to act as a buffer and stiff armed Veronica. The guy really was a wall, but that meant nothing to Veronica. Her body slipped right through him and came out the other side to tackle the idiot who grabbed her tail.
This time they both hit the ground and started to exchange blows.
She was practically seeing red, blacking out from rage, adrenaline, pain, hunger; somewhere along the line she could taste a little iron in her mouth and pain across her face. Must’ve gotten hit, not like she cared, sound seemed distorted but she could still feel everything. Especially her knuckles that were getting tender, and the constant hands of Max trying to pull her off most likely.
She had tried to be patient. Tried to stay calm, tried to walk away, but she simply couldn’t. All she could do was keep swinging and kicking. Until….
“Get a grip Vee!”
The red stopped, her mind clearing enough to focus on control. Eventually coming to and seeing what had happened. Her arms had been secured in a tight bear hug. Darren was still in front of her with bruises that were already healing and a scowl on his that screamed “I’ll end you.”
To his right was Max who was also a bit hyped on adrenaline, his hair messed up and also thoroughly pissed. But something was off. Who was restraining-
A pit formed in Veronica's stomach as she looked to the ground to see gravity glyphs holding them all in place. She turned around to see messy familiar hair slicked back and shocked eyes. Nick had showed up, as well as a few other faculty from the sound of it.
The boy was out of breath and had a dark bruise around the bridge of his nose as he continued holding her.
“N...Nick?” Her voice trembled. “When did you-”
“We gotta move.” He said anxiously as he took her by the wrist and ran out towards the exit.
Darren wasn’t amused. “That son of-Nicholas! You think we’re done here!”
“Shut up man! We don’t need this kinda shit right now.” Max growled with an intense amount of bass. The glyphs vanished and he grabbed Darren as he ran off as well. Quickly pushing his friend out the door. “Go cool off and then come back. I’ll handle the adults”
“You can’t be seri-”
“Do you want to get beat up by three different people today!? Take a fucking walk”
Darren grit his teeth before spitting a mixture of spit and blood on the ground before listening to his friends instructions. Max let out an annoyed sigh before regaining his stoic expression and stood by the door as faculty and students started gathering.
xxxx
Veronica messes up, she messed up big time. It was one thing to make trouble for herself but it creating it for others wasn’t a thing she enjoyed. All she had to do was keep calm, walk away, and survive a day at school. Not be led through the back streets of Atlas by Nicholas of all people.
He hadn’t said a word to her but she hadn’t spoken either. The feeling of her blood rushing and the whirlpool of her instincts still washed over her like a sea of flames that did its best to simmer down. Nick must’ve been furious, he had a right to be. Veronica said she was fine when she wasn’t. Now this has happened. Veronica wanted nothing more than to scream at herself right now. How could she let this happen?
She continued to stare at the hand that held her wrist through an alley where Nick finally stopped and let go. Veronica wanted to say something but didn’t get the chance before Nick tossed a bag over his shoulder at her.
Veronica reacted just fast enough to catch it and was taken back by it. It was….jerky? Beef jerky at that. She looked to see him staring at her with concern. Veronica tried looking away but Nick tilted her back to stare into her animal like eyes. With her luck, he probably saw her fangs when she was screaming her head off earlier.
Nick: ‘So this is what I was supposed to look out for?’ You with me Vee?
Veronica:....
Nick:They sell those packs in the vending machines near the sports room. Taste isn’t that spectacular but I’m sure it’ll serve you better than me right now.
Veronica:....
Nick:Vee…?
Veronica:...Can you...turn around? I don’t want you to see me eat. Cover your ears too.
Nick:Uh, okay? *turns around* tap my shoulder when you're done I guess.
Veronica:Thanks…
Nick covered his ears and Veronica finally opened the extremely full bag. The aroma hit her like a truck and Veronica couldn’t help but let out a gulp the moment it did.
Nick clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, already feeling a little awkward after fifteen seconds. ‘Is she gonna eat all of that? The bag is a large size, people twice my size take a while to eat it.’ He was starting to regret making today's arm day in gym class. ‘Hopefully she just needs a few pieces of-’
The wind blew and the bag flew right by his head, completely empty and teared apart. The tap on his shoulder can immediately after. That...couldn’t have been the bag, no way. He turned around and couldn’t believe it, Veronica stood in front of him a little bit more composed than before. Her eyes were less intense, as well as her hair. Even Vee’s breathing was less erratic but she still wasn’t exactly calm either. The crumbs on her face didn’t help.
Nick caught himself staring a little too hard and tried to have a very even expression. Veronica was starting to look at him the way Summer looks at her scars. This was clearly a big deal to her. After all, this was all news to him.
Nick:Are you okay? Or you know...slightly better?
Veronica:Slightly better is a decent way of putting it, barely. My body hurts.
Nick:Well you probably have a few bruises, your lip and right hand is bleeding, and I might’ve tackled you a little hard once or twice whenever I arrived. I’ve seen explosive tempers but man.
Veronica:Did I...give you that bruise?
Nick:Consider it a team effort between the three of you. Serves me right for rushing in without thinking. Nothing a little aura can’t fix. Same goes for you I hope.
Veronica:I’ll be fine…
She walked towards him slowly and gently touched his nose. She did this to him. He might put blame on everybody but it was no doubt to spare her feelings. Veronica’s ears drooped down and she held back her tears. It was bad enough Nick saw her lose her cool, she wasn’t gonna let him see her tears.
Veronica:I’m sorry...really sorry. I’ve done nothing but lie, break promises, and caused you trouble. All on my first day too. Talk about pathetic. Now you’re hurt and going to be in trouble because of me.Frankly I...I don’t know why you aren’t yelling at right now. How can you tolerate me so much all the time? I wouldn’t be able to.
Nick:Well that’s easy, it’s not tolerating when you want to be around the person.
And just like that, Veronica was speechless.
Nick:Don’t get me wrong. Can’t say I’m okay with how today went or that I’m not disappointed that you couldn’t last the day; But you’ve always been a hothead. Today just explains why. Yang might’ve told me to keep an eye on you, out of love of course. So don’t be too upset with her okay? I wish I knew about this sooner. Pardon if I’m overstepping, but does this have anything to do with why you’re so reluctant to talk about Menagerie? Anytime I talk about visiting it’s always a no.
Veronica:It’s one of many reasons. Reasons I rather not get into, sorry.
Nick:That’s fair. It’s funny, we always talk about how we talk about everything but I guess something we can’t help but keep to ourselves. Did you think I’d hate you, or wouldn’t understand? Granted I’m definitely hazy on the specifics but I definitely don’t think any less of you. V-
Veronica:I like you…as in like, like you.
Blood rushed to both of their faces. Veronica didn’t make eye contact but she did take his hand and held it tight; it trembled ever so slightly.
Nick couldn’t tell if he was slightly under the weather like Valerie said or hearing the words aloud. Nick wasn’t dense like his father, but hearing a confession was still a crazy moment. Especially right now. A boy in his gym clothes and a roughed up school girl, standing in a snowy alleyway after running out of school. Maybe he should’ve slept in today.
Veronica:It’s not like it’s been some kind of secret. I was never good at subtlety. When you're around me...I try so hard for you to only see the best of me, though it rarely happens. So I kept quiet, from plenty of people. Unless you really know about faunus then how could you know what goes on under the surface? You’re the last person I wanted to tell. I thought you’d look at me differently.
Nick:Do I look that shallow?.
Veronica:I couldn’t take the chance. Not when you’re the one, the only who really sees me outside of my parents.
He wasn’t entirely sure Veronica meant by that. See her how? In what way was he different from someone like his sister or Valerie? Was it okay to ask that right now? He decided against it. Being pushed away earlier made him worried about it happening again.
So instead he told her a simple truth.
Nick:It’s not like you’re Shiva. I’ve stared in the eyes as she threatened my life and I still hug Summer without a care in the world. On a scale from one to ten, what happened at school was a two. If you ever need something then I’m here Vee. I care about you, a lot. Be who you are around me.
Veronica:....Anything Huh?
She leans forward slowly, her face crimson. Nick’s brain goes crazy. ‘Is she…!? Wait, no! I’ve never-’ Veronica’s head lands in the crook of his neck and her hands wrap around him weakly.
“Food…” she said half consciously. “Fattening food, meat. Please tell me Atlas has that?”
Nick:Okay! I know a spot that’s out of the way and serves anyone. So-
She shut her eyes and dozed off. Nick heard quiet purring from Vee and saw her injuries finally start to heal. A good sign, but Nick couldn’t travel like this! He’d have trouble even if he wasn’t sick; not to mention he totally forgot that he wasn’t in his regular clothes!
Nick:I did not think this through. No wallet or phone, a passed out girl, and parents that will murder us. Think Nick, who could I call right now that wouldn’t chew me out and still help? Oh! Duh…
xxxx
Penny:I called your parents.
Nick:Why!?
Penny:You’re minors...
Nick:At least they have time to calm down.
Penny:They’re sending Winter.
The boy nearly choked on his thermometer before Penny took it out. He currently sat on one of her medical beds while Veronica was sleeping in one next to him. A stack of meat lovers pizza by the bed was ready for her whenever she woke up.
Penny:Due to physical exhaustion from yesterday, insufficient rest, and slight dehydration, you’re running a slight fever Nicholas Schnee. Maybe even a cold if it gets worse. I’m ordering you to do nothing but rest and go to school. No training, or unneeded stress from extracurricular activities for two days.
Nick:But I have tournament-
Penny:Home and school! A council is not one person, they can get by without you. It would be a tragedy if you couldn’t even compete, then Summer would be disqualified from duos.
Nick:Sigh….yes ma’am. Sleep does sound nice.
Penny:48 hours will be up before you know it!
Nick:Maybe Val and Summer should’ve played hooky today too? Thanks for all this. I know you’re specifically in the medical field but…
Penny:I consider myself a jack of all PHDs.
Nick:How about an expert in faunus biology? Is Veronica-
Penny:She’s fine, but that’s all I can disclose without permission. I’m sure she’ll tell you more of her own free will when I leave the room. She is pretending to be asleep right now to avoid talking to me.
Nick:....WHAT!? *looks at her*
Veronica:.....
Penny:Oscar has tried convincing her to have at least one session with her as a request from her parents for some time now for reasons I’m not sure of. I doubt she wants to speak in my presence out of fear that I might tell Oscar something that he could use to understand her better. Question is, how long will she fake being unconscious until the smell of pizza is too much?
Veronica:*opens eyes* I’m begging you to leave.
Penny:Okay! I have work to complete anyways. Hopefully nothing burst into flames again. Don’t worry about your school belongings. Summer was told to get them.
Penny rubs Nick’s head and goes into a separate lab room. Veronica rises from the bed like a zombie and grabs a pizza box. Drool starts to form as she opens the box and grabs a slice. Meat lovers, it was beautiful. She almost inhaled the slice before looking up and turning red. Nick was staring at her calmly.
Veronica:Ummm….
Nick:Huh? Oh! *turns around* Sorry…
Veronica:It’s just really...I hate being seen when I eat like this. We can still talk though.
Nick:Hmm where to start?
Veronica:Those boys, how much trouble are they going to be for you?
Nick:Oh those knuckleheads won’t be a problem. I’m fortunate that you fought two people who. already hate me and plan on beating me senseless anyways.
Veronica:How is that a good thing exactly?
Nick:Because messing with you gives me an excuse to actively be cruel to them! The school will probably give all of us a slap on the wrist considering we’re in the tournament, duos in fact. They’re the runners up from last year. Both of them were pretty upset underclassmen took their gold.
Veronica:The big one, Max. He looks disturbingly a lot like his pops. Didn’t even know they lived here. Makes sense with the lack of equality around here still.
Nick:Don’t be too quick to judge. Max doesn’t hate faunus and my dad says Cardin is a pretty alright guy these days.
Veronica:Yet his son appears to be falling in similar pitfalls. Bastard said I wasn’t his type and gave me the strangest look.
Nick:Maybe he’s just not into blondes or something, I don’t know. As far as apples falling from trees go, my dad is pretty respectful and turns the other cheek quite a bit; that didn’t carry over haha.
Veronica:Yeah you’re petty and smug, like a gremlin or something. A cute one. You’re also very cheerful in a sarcastically optimistic way. Weird, you’re weird Nick.
Nick:It’s called charisma. Can I get a slice? This is a lot of pizza.
Veronica:Knock yourself out. You went a little overboard with ten boxes.
Nick:I don’t know how any of this works. Is there a certain ratio of meat or…
Veronica:Think of it as a kind of mental/physical diet. Meat sets of the animal instinct and keeps everything working okay. Too much and the instincts stay on. The eyes, hair, claws, teeth, and other more psychological things stick around. No meat eventually draws it out in a more aggressive nature and my body can’t operate well because of the messing the nutrients. Everything hurts.
Nick:So on one end you’re a peak apex predator, then the other is what, starved wildcat?
Veronica:I call it going feral but yeah that works. I don’t like either position. One is physically painful while the other….I just don’t like the “apex” me. It’s a lot to handle.
Nick:For you or other people?
Veronica:I’d like if we changed the subject please?
Nick:Sorry. Anything on your mind.
Veronica:...Your feelings for me.
He choked on a pepperoni, coughing and hacking it back up to catch his breath. Of course that’s on her mind! Nick had to keep his cool, this was important. He had answers but had no clue if they were good answers.
He turned around despite her earlier request. This had to be done face to face. Veronica must’ve known that because she wasn't eating anymore. Her hands rested on the box that most likely was empty by now and eyes focused on her normal looking nails.
Bright blush ran across her face again with her ears down. Her tail curled around her left arm. In a weird way he wished the world could see her right now. It was for this exact reason he always vouched for Vee. The overwhelmingly confident and rowdy island girl wasn’t all she was. Veronica could feel insecure or be meek. She never dismissed her faults but also had no shame pointing out others. Veronica saw everything she could in something and was honest about her feelings with it to the point all she ever did to avoid discussion was say she didn’t want to talk about it or be vague.
Nick:Uhh, what about the subject exactly?
Veronica:Can you get a little closer?
Nick stood up and sat on the edge of her bed. Veronica patted her hand and me closer. Then another pat made him get closer, then another, and another; until he was beside her. Vee’s hand grabbed his and she leaned, dangerously close. Nick started to feel his heart race again.
Veronica:Have you kissed a girl?
Nick:K..Kiss?! As in...no. H-Have you?
Veronica:Once, well a couple times by one person. It was pretty crappy honestly, for many reasons.
Nick:I’m sorry…
Veronica:It’s alright. I’m sure I’ll have better ones.
She could feel him shake a little. His heart sounded like firecrackers going off with how fast it was. Veronica leaned just a little closer and the boy shut his eyes. He made no advances, no tilt, or lean. Nick would’ve just let it happen. Veronica smiles before flicking his forehead to make him jump. She laughed and leaned back, but kept holding his hand.
Veronica:As much as I like you I won’t take anything you don’t want to give me. Your first kiss happens once. Do it on your terms. I hope Valerie accepts it.
Nick:I’m sorry.
Veronica:Don’t be. You’ve always looked her way. I can see why. I wish you thought I was as pretty and wonderful just like her. Maybe if I cracked more jokes or a bit nicer, then you would fall for-
Nick:You are so gorgeous Veronica Belladonna.
His words derailed her own. Nick smiled at the girl curiously with his blushing face that made her heart melt. This was unexpected. This face, those words, it was so...sincere.
Nick:You tell plenty of jokes, sure you need work on your attitude but Val is rowdier than you on occasion. There isn’t a thing about you that doesn’t make me…
Veronica:Nicholas…? Do you...feel something for me?
Nick:Of course I do you dunce.
Veronica:Then why-
Nick:Because Val has my heart. How could I date you knowing that? I’d feel really shitty being with someone that loves me so much and my heart is set on another girl. That’s not very chivalrous of someone who loves the idea of being a knight.
Veronica:So...I guess she really is the princess in your story?
Nick:Wrong. I’ve never thought of Val like that. She’s...my longest friend and companion. We’ve done so much together just to see if we could. Val to me is like another knight. Rival, friend, crush...she’s a lot. A princess isn’t one of them. If I’m being honest with myself, you’d be my princess.
Life was so unfair, he was unfair. Veronica’s mind was everywhere just like her blush. Was Nick letting her down easy or flirting!? How could he do both!? Veronica let go of his hand and put the covers over her head. Looking at his dumb face wasn’t helping the situation. She really was in love with this clown.
Veronica:You really are such a gremlin you know!? Now I like you more!
Nick:Oh...well..I don’t know what I was trying to do just now. I was explaining myself and sorta… I’m so fucking stupid. I’m gonna go wash up and give you some space now.
She gave him a thumbs up and heard his footsteps slowly grow distant until they stopped. Was he...looking back at her!? Was it with embarrassment or longingly!? It would be weird to peek out now! This cover was a bad idea. His footsteps started again and Veronica heard the doorknob open. Not yet, he couldn’t leave yet without her proper response.
Veronica:Nicholas?
Nick:Yeah?
Veronica:I hope, I hope things work out for you and Val. Regardless of my feelings I want you to be happy. That being said, don’t think I’m going to stop trying, because you...have my heart. And I need you to know that if for some reason Val doesn’t accept yours, or you get it back, I’ll accept it with open arms.
Nick:....
Veronica:....Too much?
Nick:No, it was just right. Thanks, Vee.
The door slowly creaked closed as he left. Just before it did however, the tiniest whisper slipped through. Was it on purpose, or did her hearing escape his thoughts. Either way Veronica pressed her pillow against her chest flustered.
“My princess” Damn those Schnees. They always know just what to say.

Murdoc/Mac + s4 distress
I really like the idea of The Merchant, Murdoc, and Helman all trapped in the black site together, but the lack of Murdoc’s screeching of ‘BFF Angus Visiting Someone Other Than Me?!?!’ was disappointing, so maybe Murdoc just...got bored and escaped.
(The Merchant is supposed to be in the black site, right? Because when Mac breaks Scarlett out, her cell looked the same, but it was in the Phoenix building. So just a case of reusing sets?)
Tonight wasn't going to be a good night.
Mac stared at the beer in his fridge. Was he really doing this? Riley and Desi had left maybe 15 minutes ago. Starting to drink now wasn’t an admission of fear of being alone with his thoughts; it was just taking advantage of the alone time.
No. No. Get involved with something else.
He shut the fridge and sighed, plodding back across the room, and up the stairs to the veranda. His many projects scattered about, in various stages of completion, mocked him. None of them were currently appealing, despite his fingers’ itch for activity. Why was he so often bored, yet could never focus long enough to see one through?
No time for idlness. The world needs saving.
Codex, the impending apocalypse, his aunt. He wanted to hate what they stood for, but deep down, admitted there was some logic to it. And he wanted the familial connection to have a solid place in the world. His dad, his mom’s good memory, his chance at any normal family members, gone. Jack, MIA. His friends wouldn’t be far behind, thanks to his growing indecisiveness and unreliability. Being alone hurt, but it was better to push them away before he burdened them with his feelings, his existence. Any deaths due to his failures already ate at him. Having any one of their deaths on him would literally kill him.
It was too heavy. His life was shattering into a million pieces, and all he could do was watch as the shards slipped through his fingers. He wanted to go back. Back to when every little thing didn't lead to catastrophe. Repairing one shard, at the expense of all the others. It was exhausting.
He couldn't fight the darkness. Not tonight. He was going to lock himself in his room, and drink as much of his hidden stash as possible. Since his brain insisted on lacking an off switch, he’d shut it down by force.
The exciting prospect of hard alcohol, and the warm, blanketing buzz it’d bring, lifted his mood. The fuzziness would come quick, and it’d be his little secret. No awkwardness. No prying. No ‘Mac, there were a dozen beers--’
The force from plowing into an unexpected obstacle jolted him into a backwards stumble.
“Attacking me already! I haven’t even done anything yet!”
“Murdoc.” His sudden appearance stunned Mac. All the time that’d passed without incident since Murdoc had escaped had left him secretly saddened that Murdoc had grown bored of him. Ironically, at a time when their worldviews were becoming closer aligned.
“Do you have to sound so disappointed?”
“I’m not disappointed, just...surprised. Thought you’d finally gotten tired of me.”
“Tired of you?” His slightly narrowed eyes and suspicious expression warned Mac that his indifferent front was failing. Murdoc was picking up on something.
Dammit! He had to be careful, and get this perfect; any sign of weakness, and Murdoc would discover everything (if he hadn’t already), and use that knowledge to give the one, final tap to destroy him.
What a waste of their cat and mouse games.
“I could never get tired of you, MacGyver. I—actually, more so you—have been busy.”
Mac retreated to the kitchen sink, hoping to find dishes, empty cans, anything, to distract him from Murdoc’s interpretation of the chaos his life had fallen into, but Murdoc followed, settling himself onto the counter.
“The Phoenix shutting down, forcing you into an ordinary life. Your genius being wasted on low-level teaching gigs. Painful. It’s a shame I wasn’t around to help.”
“I...survived.”
“As you do. But wait! From the ashes, Phoenix gets bought and reopened, returning to its former glory under new management! I love that! It’s beautiful. Gets you right here.” Murdoc patted a fist over his heart.
“You always manage to keep track of me.”
“I pride myself on being informed about your life.”
Mac rubbed the back of his neck, and shrugged his shoulders to prevent them from locking up further. Murdoc said all that so casually, like the whole time hadn’t been miserable, but most noticeable was the lack of mention about Codex or his dad’s death. Surely Murdoc still had enough connections to know of them, but maybe he didn’t realize Mac’s personal stake.
That’s what he needed. Someone who wasn’t involved in this whole train wreck. Murdoc had liked him when he’d been blinded by idealism. Maybe he’d like the new, damaged Mac. Even if he hadn’t been the cause.
“We’re besties, and I consider you and Team Phoenix to be my pet project. Speaking of, your new boss is interesting, kinda strange fit for The Phoenix, don’t you think? Can’t imagine him and Matilda get along too well. Now don’t get jealous, but I think I’d like to meet him.”
“Russ would just love that, as I’m sure the views through the cameras weren’t enough.”
“I know, I know. Everyone loves me, but I’m more impressive in person.” Murdoc directed an offended glare in his direction, “Don’t snort, Angus. You know it’s true.”
His confidence was undeterred by Mac’s knowing smile. “Also noticed that the newbie stuck around. Since she’s going to stay awhile, I think new introductions are in order.”
“Her fist to your face?”
“And Bozer made a movie! Good for him! I need to congratulate him. At his new place, since you have New Roomie Riley now. She’s too good for some tech shop. All of you. Too good for an ordinary life.”
“You’re full of compliments tonight.”
“While I wish they’d be used for better purposes, I’ve always appreciated the skills each of you have. ‘Cept when they’re being used to hunt me.”
Murdoc’s playful grin was infectious, almost making him forget that Murdoc could choose to be a threat whenever he got bored. Ugh, so cute. It was embarrassing how attractive he found Murdoc, even just physically.
“By the way, when’s she moving to Desiree’s? Seriously. Took them forever to leave. I was starting to think I’d have to sneak in through the rooftop portal in your room.”
Typical Murdoc, pleased to talk about stalking, and breaking and entering. The eagerness to talk to Mac hadn’t changed, and it made him smile, even as guilt began creeping in. He’d said terrible things to Murdoc, personal attacks that weren’t necessary, and at times when it’d been uncalled for. How long had he railed Murdoc when they’d gone to Colombia? And how could he forget how the viciousness he’d directed at Murdoc, even after he’d already surrendered to Phoenix’s custody? After everything, why did Murdoc still like him so much?
“When’s it my turn to be nosy?”
“You want to know more about me?! Ohmygosh, this is-- I’m going to cry.” Murdoc fake sniffled, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
“Two things?”
“Shoot.”
“OK, how’d you escape?”
“A magician never reveals his secrets.”
Mac mirrored Murdoc’s smirk. “C’mon. Never? Even if it’d impress the audience?”
Murdoc smiled, despite a huff. “Is it more impressive that I didn’t plan it? Saw the opportunity, and took it. Improvised. Y’know, I think you’ve been a bigger influence on me than I realized.”
“Can you really call it an opportunity, though? Since you had to kill every other person in the building.”
“Oh, I can’t take credit for all that. Just Helman.”
“What? How…? You were the only survivor.”
Murdoc waved a dismissive hand at Mac’s bewilderedness, “I didn’t waste my time on the guards; they weren’t in my way. Everyone was too busy shooting each other, even before lights went out, or the “critical system failure”. This could come back to bite me, but you might want to tell your new boss to be a little more careful about who he hires in the future.”
Power failure? Infighting?
Codex. Could they have orchestrated Murdoc’s escape? Why? They’d never successfully recruit him, even if they demanded him to repaid a debt. And despite his thrill for violence, he wouldn’t be a good fit. He doesn’t get along with people, and definitely wouldn’t care for saving the world, or complying with a shadowy leader’s orders. Too chaotic, cynical, independent--
“What’s the second thing? Hopefully, something more interesting like, ‘The next time we team up…’”
“Why haven’t you taken Cassian?”
Murdoc’s hands curled around the edge of the counter, his knuckles paling from the force. “I don’t know where he is. With Matilda’s knack for hiding things, and your dad’s connections, it’s difficult. But it’s only a matter of time.”
“No.”
“Don’t worry, I know you don’t know. They bring him to you. Smart.”
“Lie! You’re lying! And at this point. You think I don’t – This is important! Murdoc!”
Mac didn’t bother to hide his aggravation. He’d speculated, and come to a conclusion that hit hard, especially now that he was dealing with the loss of his own dad. He needed to hear it from Murdoc, even if it was a confirmation.
“You should be happy! You said yourself that the best thing I could ever do was get away from him! What, you think I wasn’t listening?! To any of that?? You didn’t give me much choice.”
“I know!” Murdoc’s eyelids did that twitch of sadness that absolutely killed him. “I know.” Mac blinked against the tears welling up.
He couldn’t take it back, couldn’t take back the fact that he’d gone along with the punishment of taking away Cassian’s visits, effectively leading to the destruction of the only good thing in Murdoc’s life. And he’d taken Murdoc away from Cassian, who still loved his dad, had good memories of him, and happily talked about him.
Mac understood now, that he’d ruined everything.
“It wasn’t just what you said...I saw how happy he was, and realized that I’ll have to be happy with watching from afar.”
“For the rest of his life?”
“People like me don’t get a happy ending. I’ll always be running, hiding in the shadows, until the day I die. I did that. I trapped myself, and I’m not going to destroy Cassian’s life too.”
“But he needs you. You’re a part of him.”
“Does it make you feel better to have your dad back in your life after all this time? Because it doesn’t seem like it, judging by your rocky relationship. Is it worth it to have to say goodbye twice? Three times? Every single time it doesn’t work out?”
A few tears escaped down Mac’s face. "Every effort counts. Every minute counts! Even if you think he’ll hate you. Even if he says he hates you!! It. Doesn’t. Matter. You can’t get time back. Show him you care! Tell him the truth if he asks! Maybe he’ll say he wants nothing to do with you, but at least then, when you die, maybe he’ll have less questions and regrets. Don’t abandon him! Don’t leave him to wonder what--”
Mac fought to keep his voice steady around the lump in his throat. "—what would’ve happened if you’d come back sooner." He clapped a hand over his mouth to hide his quivering lip.
Don’t cry in front of Murdoc. Don’t cry in front of Murdoc. Don’t cry--
Mac hugged Murdoc, burying his face into Murdoc's shoulder to stifle his sobs. He couldn’t handle seeing Murdoc’s disappointment at his intellectual equal, his foil, his desired companion, broken and weak, and hanging all over him. Pathetic.
Murdoc’s arms hesitantly wrapped around him, and in the most sincere tone Mac had ever heard him use, whispered, “I’m sorry.”

Someone sent me this...
Hi, do you have any recommendations for weecest fics? Long, plotty ones? Your recs are some of the best. Thank you for your service. ♡
And I was like
But then life kept happening and I had to put it to the side and I was like....
But then I finally got some time and I started composing my list but then I accidentally posted it before I was done then it wouldn't let me save it to queue so I could finish it so I had to copy it, delete it and start again. Then it wouldn’t save on my cell or tablet after two days of trying I said fuck it and just waited until I got back home (I travel for work) to do it off my laptop.
So so sorry to the Anon who sent me this request.
I hope the long list makes up for my tardiness.
Weecest Recs
All the Way by BenLMoore A family court orders that Sam and Dean be separated because they're too close. These people don't realize, there's no keeping the Winchesters boys apart.
And I Have Asked to Be Where No Storms Come by candle_beck Family is the first to break your heart.
The Ballad of the Invisible Boy by dollylux This is a story of adolescence. This is a love letter for the slow burn, for Led Zeppelin, for the 90s. This is the first of two sets of stories about how Sam and Dean didn’t fall in love. They never had to. It was always there, this desperation between them, like a real, breathing thing. When they came together, it was inevitable. As sure as continents colliding, as the phases of the moon and the life and death of stars. This isn’t a love story, but it’s a story of love.
Birthday by helena_s_renn, Helenas_bitch, orphan_account Sam turns fifteen two weeks after Dean ended their relationship. In order to celebrate Sam's birthday, Dean decides to get him laid – with a girl.
Crown and Anchor Me (or let me sail away) by Sena Sam Winchester is fifteen years old, at yet another new high school in yet another state, he doesn’t get along with his distant, distracted father, he’s figuring out that he likes guys just as much as he likes girls, his clothes never fit and his limbs ache at the joint ever since his growth spurt started, he has to study for the PSAT and, oh yeah, he’s a little bit in love with his brother, Dean, who’s taken a break from hunting monsters to work at a local garage for minimum wage.
Crush by BewareTheIdes15 Dean looks at him different now, Sam just can't figure out what the difference is.
Everlong by Lux Aeterna Sam and Dean’s feelings come to a head a year before Sam leaves for college. They struggle with the implications and complications of their relationship, but no matter where they go or what they do, it’s impossible to forget.
The Good Days by Danceswithfiends 'His stomach jumps at these small glimpses of Dean, and he tries to push it down, but thoughts of Dean bending him over in the back seat of the car flood his brain anyway. Sam swallows heavily and looks away, trying to focus intently on the road. If this doesn’t stop soon, Sam is going to go absolutely nuts.'The sexcapades of Sam and Dean's relationship in its early days and the days that follow.
Hard-Won Inches by BewareTheIdes Dean’s developed this thing lately where he likes to touch Sam’s mouth while he has the amulet in there, fingers tracing so gently it almost tickles, around the little pouty spot where the cord disappears between Sam’s lips. It’s kind of weird, but probably not weirder than the fact that Sam’s ten and still sucks on his brother’s necklace to go to sleep at night.
A History of Love by lyryk (s_k) When Sam is sixteen, he’s gotten pretty good at hiding what he’s been feeling for his brother for the last couple of years. But the most dangerous thing is not Dean finding out how Sam feels—it’s what happens when their father finds out.
The Hottest Days by WevyrDove John is away on a hunting trip when Sam experiences his first heat cycle. Dean panics and makes Sam lock himself up in his room in a desperate attempt to keep temptation at bay.
Incubus by Ithiel_Dragon, virtualpersonal Sam and Dean are left alone in Georgia in the middle of the summer while John is away on a hunt, and unfortunately the brothers haven't been getting along lately. Sam's moodiness, and Dean's temper (not to mention his crush on his own brother) are not helping matters. Things get even more complicated when Dean is attacked by an Incubus.
A Life Made of Nights by BewareTheIdes Dean’s always loved Sammy more than anything, but what happens when brotherly love turns into something more? (A timeline of Sam and Dean’s relationship, starting from the time Sam’s a baby)
Lonely Harmonies by Linden Dean maybe gets why John insists on separate beds, these days.
More Than A Taste By BewareTheIdes After school, Dean finds out what Sam had to say about walking in on him
Never Again by made.of.bees Dean walks in on Sam having some alone time and decides there are better things to do than leave. Sam freaks out but makes the best of the situation. After all, it's just one time, right? As long as it doesn't become a habit or anything...
Of Hot Showers and Female Intuitions by cyndrarae Sam‘s journey through teenage angst and sexual experimentation leads him to an irrefutable truth… he loves his big brother more than he should.
One Love, One Bond by RudexAndxNotxGinger Sam and Dean have a special relationship. And it all started when Sam hit puberty.
The Only Thing By BewareTheIdes Ok, look, there’s not a delicate way to say it; Sammy sucks Dean’s nipples.
P A R A D I S E (Born to Die!Verse) This story follows the lives of two young brothers as they try to make it in a dark world. After an overdose threatens to tear them apart forever, Sam and Dean vow to never leave each other's side again and hit the open roads of the American West to live fast and free together. They fight and fuck like every day could be their last because one day it just might be.
Plausible Deniability by BewareTheIdes Dean get a little freaked out about his relationship with Sam, and a whole lot freaked out when calling it off gets Sam interested in some other guy.
Sam’s First Love by JAYJEN11 Dean was Sam’s superhero, his protector, he taught him everything. It only made sense Sam loved him but then he thinks he fell in love with him and Dean had taught him everything else so why not this too? This is not a love story. This is real life and sometimes real life sux.
Sam Liking Boys (And Dean) by stuck_as_sarah Titles pretty self-explanatory, just weecest thats pretty much a pwp.
Sammy's Rule by Sammy_Rae22 John Winchester leaves his 12 and 16 year old sons for a hunt. While he is away Sam gets closer and closer to his brother, till he has to form a rule to control himself. That rule is to NEVER look at his brother like he is some sex lord. But what happens when things start to get a little out of control?
Sequelae by candlejill After annihilating the boundaries between them, Sam and Dean both struggle to accept the change in their relationship. With Dean battling his guilt and Sam counting down the days until he’s able to put hunting in his past, they attempt to salvage what is left of their brotherly bond.
Note: Sequel to Situational Machismo
Situational Machismo by candlejill While on a hunt, Sam and John are hit with a mysterious spell causing them to switch bodies. Sam is devastated at the repercussions that could affect his future. The Winchesters are left with the monumental task of figuring out how to change back. Dean, previously believed to be unaffected, begins to have new troubling thoughts towards his brother causing him to think that maybe he did not escape the spell untouched after all.
Note: There is no sexual relationship between Sam and Dean while Sam is in John's body.
So It Goes by jenajasper Dean would always remember the first time
Teen Antichrist Master List by smallcaps Crack!AU teen antichrist Sammy has horns and a tail…and a hammer! Dean keeps his hands to himself. Barely.
A Thousand Miles to Get There by alakewood Dean's not quite sure when it happened, but somewhere along the line he and Sam started messing around – it started with chaste kisses and graduated to more physical expressions of their desire. And, at some point, he fell in love with his little brother. Now, while on a cross-country roadtrip with his family, in the deceptive privacy of their RV, Dean has to prove to Sam that going away to college isn't going to change how he feels.
The Time Traveler’s Brother by AmyPond45 Dean’s life is turned upside down the night his mother dies. But that’s also the night a mysterious grown-up version of Dean’s brother first appears in his life. While Dean grows up, “Old Sam” is often there, especially when Dean’s father isn’t. As Dean learns what the future holds, he begins to question everything his father has taught him about who he is and what he is supposed to become. Can Dean find a way to save his little brother from his own future?
To The Edge and Over by paperstorm, slf630 Here’s the thing. Dean’s mostly perfect in Sam’s eyes. He’s beautiful inside and out – cocky, charming, brave, fiercely loyal, flawed and stubborn and annoying and amazing – and Sam’s so stupidly in love with him it isn’t even close to funny. And there’s no way in hell Dean can ever know.
Two-Headed Boy by dollylux Sam's life from sixteen to twenty-two years old. This is a story of the last days of innocence during a sweltering Southern summer when Sam is so in love with his brother, he can barely stand his touch. It's the pain between them through lies, through jealousy, through seeing each other with someone else. Theirs is a story of leaving and Stanford, of Dean feeling lost and Sam nearly losing himself without his brother. It's fire and reunion and a love never lost - ever-present and no longer deniable.
Under the Blanket by Colette_Capricious Sam is relentless when he wants something. Dean is helpless in the face of Sam’s desires and this thing that is building between them. It can’t happen, it won’t happen. It’s wrong. But why isn’t John doing anything to stop it? Could there actually be something on this earth than John Winchester is afraid to face?
Verses Like Yours and Mine by rivers_bend Sam/Dean are regular brothers – no demon, no hunting, Mary’s alive – who fall in love with each other.

Let’s Unwind
Adonis x Bianca
Summary: Adonis and Bianca haven’t experienced any time to themselves lately because of their busy schedules. But tonight is the night for them to unwind with drinks, food, and good sex.
This was a fic request! I hope it’s just as fluffy as the person wanted it to be.
“Hey, Adonis?”
Bianca walked into their wide open living room, Adonis seated on the couch in front of their 86” LED Smart TV, watching Sports Illustrated. They were discussing the big fight he had just two days ago, the one where he came out on top, yet again. They all celebrated as a group with his team and his family. Rocky couldn’t make it, but he gave his congratulations and promised to visit soon.
Bianca held a sleeping Amara as she tucked herself in a comfortable spot on the couch. Amara cooed, stirring in her sleep before gripping one of Bianca’s fingers tightly, causing Bianca to smile before looking up at her husband.
“Donnie?”
“Yeah.” He turns down the TV, giving B his undivided attention now.
“I’ve been thinking.”
Adonis blinked twice before raising his brows in question.
“Thinking what B?”
“Well, we’ve both been pretty tied up with work and I’ve been thinking that we should make it a priority to do husband and wife things.”
Adonis chuckles.
“We don’t do that shit now?” He had a confused expression that made B want to mush his face.
“Married couples don’t just come home late at night from studio sessions or work out sessions to take separate showers and get in a quickie.” She says with sarcasm.
“So what you saying, that’s all we are?” He points an accusatory finger between them both.
“Stop it, D. What I’m saying is I want us to be more romantic. Let’s go on Friday night dinner dates, have picnics on the hood of your car, pop up at each other's work places with gifts or small talk, have risky sex, have family dinner, TRAVEL THE WORLD. Anything…”
Bianca has Adonis’s attention now, causing him to flick the TV off on a scene of him K.O.’ing a famous Mexican boxer.
“I’m listening B. I want all those things too, I want to keep our relationship romantic, fun, passionate, all that.” He was having trouble expressing himself. Bianca grips his hand, running a thumb over the scarring on his knuckles.
“Since we are both on the same page, why don’t you get dressed in something nice and make us a dinner reservation.” Adonis gives her a half smirk, before gripping her chin to kiss her soft lips. He loved the little humming sounds that escaped her mouth each time he would kiss her, her soft delicate hands running over his face, the rings on her fingers adding temperature to his skin that caused him to shiver pleasantly.
“I called your mom, and she said she would be more than happy to take Amara for the night while we enjoy ourselves. She said she’s a phone call away when we need time alone.”
Both Adonis and Bianca stared down at their sleeping beauty, Adonis leaning in to kiss her tiny feet causing Bianca to smile. Finally lifted from the couch, Bianca places Amara in her crib to get ready, while Adonis went to take a quick shower. He figured B would want to do a fancy steak house dinner, so he booked a reservation at The Capital Grille. Bianca wanted them both to dress nice for the occasion, so Adonis put on a tailored suit of his in a navy blue color with gold cufflinks and a white dress shirt underneath, not completely buttoned. He sat on his bed to tie up the laces on his dress shoes, watching his woman at her vanity applying some makeup. She went for a red lip, using the Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint, her eyes smokey to bring out the big brown irises she had, her hair pressed straight, the strands clinging to the beautiful creamy skin of her back. She had on a backless black cocktail dress with a slit on the side to give a teasing view of her killer legs. Her feet were covered in Saint Laurent heels.
Adonis couldn’t wait to get back to their place so he could properly dissect his women with his tongue, and stroke her surface with his fingers. Bianca caught him staring, a goofy grin on her face.
“You like what you see?”
“Hell yeah, you lucky we have dinner first because I’d rather skip that and eat you.”
“So you’re a cannibal now?”
They both shared a laugh.
“Hurry up beautiful so we can drop Amara off.”
Bianca put on her last Tiffany diamond earring before grabbing her black clutch, smoothing her dress over her hips.
“Okay, so I think I have everything Amara needs. Her bottle cleaner, I packed extra breast milk just in case, her favorite pacifier, those new booties that keeps her feet warm, extra pampers…”
“Babe. It’s cool, aight? My mom will be fine she can handle it B.” Bianca squeezes her eyes shut, letting out a nervous laugh.
“Okay...I’m overreacting. You ready?”
“You look so damn sexy tonight.”
Adonis drinks from the bottle of Champagne sitting on ice, watching Bianca sip her wine in a sexy manner, her eyes low and fluttery.
“You look just as good yourself Mr. Creed.” She pulls out a tiny mirror to check her lips, smacking them together.
“Keep doing that to your lips they’ll be staining this dick in a minute.”
Bianca couldn’t lie, she wanted Adonis to do the things he talked big about, but her stomach rumbled and she needed some food.
“Let me eat first I’m STARVING.”
Right on cue, the waiter comes over with their tray of food. Bianca ordered a prime rib with Parmesan cheese crust, creamed spinach, and a baked sweet potato with brown sugar maple glaze and butter. Adonis had a ribeye with caramelized mushrooms and onions, garlic butter mashed potatoes, and roasted broccoli with green peppers and onions. It was tender, savory, and juicy, each bite getting better than the last. Both of them could eat, and that’s all they did too, Bianca getting thicker all over. Donnie definitely took notice when she would walk out of the bathroom in her naked glory, rubbing herself down with her homemade whipped body butter. The voice inside his head begged him to calm the heat that began to brew deep within his skin, deciding on ignoring the erection that attempted to grow and ask his women about her music.
“Tell me about the studio sessions lately, how have they been going for you?” Bianca removed her napkin from her lap, dabbing her mouth delicately, before clearing her throat to speak.
“I’m not gonna lie, I may have hit a snag.” Bianca finally spoke with a sound of defeat in her tone.
“A snag? Where exactly?” Adonis ran his tongue over his teeth, his eyes focused on his women as her shoulders slouched, reaching to pour a generous amount of champagne into her glass.
“Well...for one I haven’t had the motivation. Every time I feel like I have a lyric, just a SPARK, something, it just falls flat.” Her silky tresses from the right side of her face slipped over her shoulder, causing her to stroke it back, exposing her creamy skin over her protruding clavicles.
“I’ve been thinking about Amara a lot lately, and the hearing tests, the pressure from everyone expecting more from me now that I’ve given them this gift, my music.” She lets out a breath that sounded strained.
“B. This is what I want you to do.”
Adonis took her hand in his, rubbing the surface with his thumb.
“When you walk in that studio, I want you to close those beautiful eyes of yours. Then, I want you to do what I see you do at home, just hum to yourself. Let that pretty little hum coarse through you like it’s awakening you. Stay still, and let the melody, whichever melody you decide to create, let it cloud your brain and let it get you into the zone.”
Adonis watched the downcast of her eyes, reaching across the table with his other hand to grip her chin softly, lifting her head, and making her look him in the eyes.
“Hey, like you always tell me before a fight, YOU GOT THIS. My girl did not get a record deal and become internet famous in less than a year for nothing.” Adonis playfully jabbed her chin, causing her to perk up more, taking that same hand to kiss it, leaving a matte red lip stain along his almond skin.
“You are the epitome of a man. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have you.” Adonis gives her a soft smile, a light chuckle escaping his throat.
“I should say that about you, girl. You and Mara, and my mom are the light in my life. After the entire Drago thing, I’ve grown and… I needed that.”
Bianca’s bright smile could have swoon the entire restaurant, her hand bashfully coming up to cover her face, her eyes on Adonis unwavering.
“You are something, you beautiful human.” She loved the allure in his eyes, she loved the way he softly smiled at her like she was the only one in that room. She loved how his fingers would caress her hand gently and without pause, making her woozy.
“Adonis Creed?”
Adonis’ eyes looked up and over at a young man who looked to be about 18 years of age, an excited gleam in his eyes and a broad smile.
“Yeah, how you doing man.” Adonis put his hand out to shake the teenage boys, watching as he reluctantly shook his hand with a nervous gleam in his eyes.
“I recognized you from my graduation dinner party and I figured why not take a chance and say hi.” The young boy reminded Adonis of himself when he was 18.
“Not a problem bro, you box?”
“Yeah! I’ve been doing it since I was 7.”
“You love it? Like enough to want to pursue it?”
The boy nodded his head rapidly, causing Bianca to laugh lightly.
“That’s wassup, what’s your name?”
“Calvin.” He stuttered.
“Listen, Calvin.” Adonis pulled out his phone, handing it over to the boy.
“Why don’t you put your cell number in there, and I’ll contact you about private boxing sessions with me, hows that sound to you?” Bianca looked at Adonis as if he were something to cherish as if he were a piece of heaven.
“For real?! MAN of course definitely. I would really appreciate that.” Calvin couldn’t stop giving his thanks, his smile still plastered and his head shaking back and forth in astonishment.
After he entered his number, Calvin said his final goodbyes to Bianca and Adonis, retiring to his family with more pep in his step.
Adonis took a sip from his glass, eyes gazing out into the street of LA, watching people cruise by and the palm trees sway. He could feel the eyes of his wife on him then, so he looked up to find Bianca with glossy eyes and a genuine smile on her lips.
“That was really fucking nice of you D.” She wiped at her eye quick, grabbing both of his hands.
“Thanks, baby, I saw something in him that reminded me of how I was. And plus, I love seeing young black boys involved in other things besides what’s happening on the block.”
Not wanting to let their food go to waste, the both of them continued to eat, silence hanging between them as the silverware clashed with the plates of food. Nothing needed to be said, just his presence was enough for Bianca and the same for Adonis. Peeking at each other, and the bare skin of Bianca’s leg rubbing against Adonis was just enough to spark heat.
—-
Her body stood in front of the ceiling to floor mirrors of their luxury loft, her hand pressed to the glass as one of her new singles, Midnight, played softly in the background. The song drummed through her, causing Bianca to sway her hips, eyes closed as she took in the lull of the sensual instrumental and her soft voice singing about losing control to a man.
Creeping up behind her with unheard footsteps was her husband, both of his hands running up the length of her arms, up and over her shoulders, and then down her exposed back before resting at her hips. Bianca lets out a soft chuckle, her breath hitching softly as Adonis’ body pressed firmly against hers.
“What was going through your mind when you wrote this?” The drag of his voice when he asked her that had her body pressing further against him, her eyes closing against the cityscape of LA.
“I was thinking...of how close I wish you were with me. How being away from you, even for a second, has me itching for your hands.”
Adonis strokes his lips over her ear.
“Just my hands?”
Bianca quirks a brow, leaning her head back to look him in his eyes.
“And your mouth.” Adonis took no time to press his lips to her divine lips. Bianca melted against the moist cushion of his lips, her body automatically turning to face him as their tongues crashed like dangerous waves.
“Keep kissing me like that and watch what happens.” Adonis teases.
“You started it D. Now you gotta finish it. I’m horny husband. I want you to fuck me.”
Adonis’ lips paused over Bianca’s his eyes searching hers, taking in the heat that began to flare behind her pretty brown irises. He was certain that the heat looked just the same within his.
Adonis and Bianca kissed further, practically sucking each other's faces, the back of Bianca’s legs crashing with the arm of their black leather couch, falling crimson her back causing her dress to hike up. She giggles from the surprise change in position, causing Adonis to clamp a fist to his mouth, snorting laughter.
“Oh god, we couldn’t even make it to the bed.” She shakes her head, watching Adonis remove his jacket and shirt.
“Doesn’t matter what surface I fuck you on, just as long as I feel that good pussy I’m straight.”
Adonis took no time to rest his body over hers, kissing her further while his hands roamed. She moaned sweetly into his mouth, her heart drumming against his solid chest frantically, and her hands rubbing over the waves on his head.
The intense passion that they both still felt for each other was mind blowing and gratifying. This is what they both wanted, a marriage where even the slightest gesture makes them erupt in pleasure.
Adonis began kissing from Bianca’s temple, down her face, and to her neck, taking his tongue to trail spit after every kiss. She whispered a repeated yes into his ear like a soft echo, her back arching into his solid frame, causing him to take his hands, removing the fabric of her dress inch by inch until it pooled around her waist.
“I can’t get enough of you ma, I need you ma.” Adonis nibbles on her clavicles, his eyes staring up at her extended head, her eyes low and lustful up at the ceiling.
“Keep going, don't stop.” His mouth finally found one of her caramel nipples, taking his lips to latch around one, savoring the sweet skin. He noticed how her skin shimmers with glitter, his other hand coming up to cup her breast. She chokes on that home groan, her fingers itching to grip the leather of the couch.
One of her smooth legs runs up Adonis’ side, her toes trying to push his black slacks down his hips.
“Skin Adonis, I wanna feel more skin.” Donnie kisses in between her breasts, giving her a lazy lopsided grin.
“Okay, wifey.” Adonis lifts up, approach Bianca at the head of the couch, watching as she takes her dainty fingers, undoing his pants, allowing them to fall loosely, her fingertips taking no time to pull his Calvin Klein briefs down, revealing a smooth veiny shaft, that hung with a throbbing erection. Bianca lifts her head to kiss him on the tip, before licking him there slow, her eyes watching every move. Adonis brings a hand to her head, running his fingers through her pressed hair, gripping the silky strands as he rubbed them between his fingertips.
Head from Bianca was something Adonis could never get over. It always brought him back to the first time he experienced it, that look in her eyes and the way her mouth did tantalizing things had him hooked, even before he had sex with her. She gripped him tightly, wetting him up with her spit and squeezing him good with her lips. Adonis hisses, his eyebrows worrying and his lips attacked by his teeth. Bianca could stare at that list filled face for hours, causing her to bob her head quicker over his length, earning a low but slow fuckkkkk to escape him. She was addicted to her husband's dick, and with every suck, she felt him quiver or twitch.
“Shit B, damn B….fuckkk baby.” His head falls back, hand coming down hard to the back of her head as he came, a low cry escaping his mouth.
Adonis was on his knees now, gazing into the pretty peach that Bianca had nestled between her legs, the wet fruit begging to be licked and many other things. Adonis could never forget the way she tasted; like a sweet piece of fruit dipped in fresh honey from a honeycomb. Bianca had an obsession with eating honeycombs too, the taste was overly sweet and the texture sticky, like how her pussy was now. Adonis trailed his tongue flat against her, liking from her hole all the way to her clit. No more quiet moans escaped her mouth, her heeled feet pointed to the sky and her ring-covered fingers rubbing over his head. Bianca tilts her head, watching the light from the city and the moon reflect off of his face and that shiny tongue that battled to get a taste.
Her legs drew back further, and her face contorted in bewilderment, her man's eyes never leaving hers, the undeniable attraction so clear and so pure. He took those lips and latched onto her clit, sucking deep without retracting, obscene noises loud between them and her creamy thighs shaking.
“Ah, take it.” She moans. Adonis was proud that he still made her feel this way. He opened up wide, attempting to kiss her inner folds, his lips brushing over every surface with persistent need, her legs never clamping around his head. She wanted, needed, craved him.
“Keep that up and watch I cum.” The innocent way she spoke that had the primal nature within him growl.
“I guess I gotta keep going right?” He spoke into her pussy with a low voice.
He kept going and going with the same motions, now adding two fingers, curling them over her g spot. The leather grew sweaty from her perspiration, a repeated gasp escaping her mouth like a melody, causing her belly to tremble, and her legs to shake as she orgasmed without warning. Adonis chased her cum, still sucking her through it until he felt she had enough.
——-
“I love you.” She whispered into his ear before sucking on his earlobe. They were on their second position that night, Adonis sinking back into her tight pussy, Bianca’s hips bringing him closer, her face was buried into the carpet, and her body was arched off of the ground, her pussy quivering around him with each deep pound. His strokes weren’t rushed, it felt like he was trying to remember her this way like he wanted to map out how her pussy felt around him.
“I love you, I love this pussy.” Adonis ran his fingers through her head before gripping tight, his eyes enjoying the way her back looked. Her arch was deep, and her spin dipped in the middle, making him trail his thumb there, catching up the sweat.
“Fuck me, harder.” Whatever she wanted, Adonis would give her, his hips slapped into her ass swiftly, her fingers rubbing into the carpet with a tremble.
“Touch me more.” She could feel the palms of his hand's jiggle and pinch her ass, before trailing both hands up her slim waist, digging his fingers into her flesh. Adonis buries himself deeper, bending over to kiss her spine.
“Throw that ass back,” Adonis slapped her ass, watching as B, began grinding her hips back over him slowly, a moan leaving her mouth after every stroke.
“Look at you. So damn beautiful with this dick in you. Such a beautiful sight baby.” His eyes couldn’t leave the nasty way her pussy swallowed him repeatedly. He felt her clench him, a hiss escaping his mouth.
“I felt that too, cum on this dick B.” Adonis began thrusting to meet her strokes, her ass bouncing and her cries muffled by the carpet.
“AHHHHH.” Adonis lets out a growl so deep Bianca could feel it vibrating through her flesh. She couldn’t even warn him, her words jumbled as she came on him for the third time that night.
LA received a beautiful view that evening, Adonis pressing Bianca’s body into the glass window, her legs around his waist as she bounced over him with a slow, forceful jerk of her body. She had her arms hanging loosely around his neck, and her eyes closed in bliss, head smashed against the thick glass. Adonis loves the image of his wife on him, her skin flushed, lipstick smeared, hair curling in the roots, her eyes wet in the corners. She was so precious, the vision of her made him want to fuck her harder.
“Yes, Donnie, yes give it to me, fuck me, I miss this!” She brought a hand to the back of his head, her nails grazing his head.
“You feel so good, you always feel so good.” He whispers, bringing both of his hands around her to hold her up, bouncing her rough over him. His wife, his beloved, his beautiful black women, she was a sight to see.
“B, fuck…”
“Cum in me, give it to me.”
“Imma give it to you baby, I promise.”
“Yeah, ohmygod ohmygod.”
“Take it, girl, take this dick…”
“FUCK D!” She clenched around him, her head falling back.
“Damn girl.” Adonis smacked her ass, his body shivering from how sensitive he was. He walked back to the couch with her still around him, falling back against it while his women bounced on him, leaning forward to kiss and nibble on his lips with her his grinding deep and his hands buried into the flesh of her ass. Her hands crashed with the couch on either side of his head, her back arching and rolling. Adonis lay there stunned, his eyebrows furrowed and his mouth hanging open. Bianca arched deeper before lifting from him with a swing of her head, her hair crashing with her face, bringing Adonis hands to grip her breasts.
“I’m fucking this dick D, this is my dick.”
She began bouncing, earning a slap to her ass, and a string of moans from him.
“This fucking pussy, GOT DAMN.” His head extended, eyes squeezed shut.
“This pussy is straight fire.” He couldn’t hold back anymore, his hips meeting hers, slapping skin loud. Bianca practically clawed his chest, her body shaking over him in another orgasm, drawing him on further.
“SHITTTTT!!” Adonis lifts from the couch, wrapping his arms around her waist, his hips snapping up into her rough before finally, with a shake, cumming within her deep, shooting his cum against her cervix spurt after spurt. His lips latched to her neck, soft mumbling vibrating against her flesh. The hold he had on her was tight, and the loud thumping of his heart against her chest made her squeeze him tighter.
“If I told you, that this felt like the first time we had sex, would you believe me?” Bianca rubbed her nose into Adonis’s sweaty shoulder.
“I would, but what if I told you that it was EVEN BETTER than the first time we had sex?” Adonis kisses her hairline, enjoying the way her body bounced in his lap from laughter.
“It’s probably because of how freaky I’ve grown to be with you.” Adonis hummed in agreement.
“I’m glad we did this B, it just goes to show how much we still care for each other.” His fingertips rubbed at her back, making her eyes close.
“Just keep loving me like you do, it’s the best feeling in the world.”

Trigger warning: mentions of death
Adrian "Alucard" Tepes is a character I instantly knew I'd love, but not one I expected to relate to. It took me a while to realize that that's one of the reasons I love him, because I relate so much to him. And not just because he's a dramatic little shit who shares one singular brain cell with his boyfriend and girlfriend friends.
Alucard grew up very quickly, both literally and figuratively. Given his dhampir nature, he was probably kept away from other people for his own protection--we saw what they did to Lisa, the wife of Dracula, can you imagine the horrible things that would have happened to Adrian, their son, had he been found out by the church? Can you imagine the fear both she and Vlad constantly felt for their son? Of course he wouldn't have grown up with many friends his age, if he even had friends at all. And I can say with experience that, living around mostly adults, makes you grow up very quickly. You honestly do become a teenager in an adult's body.
You don't understand how to interact with people your own age. Social cues are a foreign language because, when you're around your parents, they don't exist, at least not like they do outside your front door. Alucard isn't used to having one or more darling idjits to enable your stupid plans or listen to the things to can't tell your parents, because he never had the chance to have it until later in his life. Hence why he's so cold and distant, as Sypha notes. It's why he constantly throws barbs at Trevor. It's his defense mechanism, him putting up walls because he doesn't understand that two dorks care about him despite him being the son of Dracula. He's never had that from anyone but his mother. He's cautious because he was likely raised to believe that he had to be way off such affection from other people, because it could be a ruse. Get his guard down and then kill him, kill the monster, like the church killed his "witch" mother, probably would have killed him if they had found out about him in his boyhood.
I was raised by a very overprotective mother. I didn't have siblings, nor did I interact with kids my own age until I went to school. My mother was constantly afraid I would be abducted or hurt somehow, so I never hung out with or even got to make real friends. Oh, I'd girls I wanted to be friends with come over sometimes, but my mother didn't like them, so they were never invited over again. And I never saw them outside school enough to really truly become friends, or even learn HOW to keep a friendship. I was isolated for most of my life. I couldn't read social cues until about sophomore year of high school. (Let me pause for a moment to say that I don't hold any malice toward my mom. Far from it! She loved me and was trying to take care of me the best way she knew how. She adopted me very late in her life (her 60's), so there was obviously a few generational divides there as to how she protected me.)
Both Alucard and I did not know what it meant to have friends until after our childhoods were over. And it happened at a very similar time. After the deaths of our mothers.
And here is where I feel most strongly connected to him, twofold.
I do a lot of things according to my mother's wishes, even now that she's gone. The main thing I do is college (haven't started yet, will in the spring). She never got past middle school, and she always wanted me to do better than her. So I promised I would. While obviously not the same level, so does Alucard: He vows to kill his father and stop a war Lisa never would have wanted. Even in death, Alucard still files his mother's wishes. "Slaves to our family," and all that.
And when he does manage to do that, honor his mother and kill his father, what happens? He's in shock. He doesn't grieve right away, not the way most of us would. He simply says that the man his dad was died a long time ago. And he's right. Even Dracula admits it out loud that, to stand there, killing his boy, he must already be dead. Except, he wasnyt totally gone just then, was he? In his final moments, he positioned himself, knowingly or not, in a way that his son can kill him without hurting Alucard further. And in the split second before Trevor draws his sword, he reaches out, one final time, to embrace Adrian. His boy. Or was it to try hurt him? He didn't know. No one does.
And it's there in that room, gazing at the pile of ashes that it begins to sink in, to sting. The monster that was terrorizing the country was the same man who he grew up idolizing, loving. Dracula was also Vlad Tepes. Dracula was also his father. He only gets the chance to truly grieve, to "mourn the man", when he's alone. When he finally let's himself remember the happy moments of his childhood. Because, to the very end, the thing that hurt him also loved him.
Towards the end of her life, my mom started to greatly deteriorate. I won't go into too many details, because this is not the time not place, but it really ended up hurting me. She would fight with my dad constantly, accusing him off random crimes, then acting like nothing happened. Or not remembering at happened at all. And then it moved to me. She would say I was picking my dad over her, and in one instance told me that she would leave and I had to choose one of them. As can be expected, this left some lasting issues. But through it all I tried to stay positive, show her as best as I could that I did love her, that I want choosing my dad over her. It didn't work. It only got worse and worse, until I finally reached my breaking point, and we walked away from each other. She had a stroke on they opposite side of the neighborhood, and died a few weeks later. She never woke up.
The thing, the person that hurt me was gone. But so was my mom. They were the same person. And I sometimes, when I think about it, I can't cry or grieve. Because the monster that terrorizes me is dead; I'm happy. And then it sets on that the monster was also the woman I grew up idolizing, loving--that I still love. And I wonder, then, if that makes me a monster, too.
It wasn't until I watched Castlevania, and started delving into these characters--the character--that I love and relate to so much, that I heard Sypha say those words, that I watched Adrian grieve and remember, that I realized I wasn't. I can mourn the woman, the Mom I lost, but I don't have to mourn the monster.
I know this is probably silly to say, but I feel better having found this show. I feel better having connected, related, to these characters. To Alucard.
Either way, it's almost 5:30 in the morning. Goodnight, all. And remember: You're not alone. ♥️
