My favorite fics of all time
For my birthday this year (I'm turning 30!!!) I thought what better way to celebrate the day I was born but also ✨ the day all my favorite characters died ✨ by giving you all some good fics! Happy May 2nd!!!
Running on Air (T): An oldy but a goody! I remember reading this a couple years ago when I rediscovered my love for drarry! I had spent my formative years on fanfic dot net obsessing over drarry and this brought it all back in one fell swoop.
Way down we go (T): I stumbled upon this one 2 years ago and I've been rereading it ever since. It's silly and lovely and they are in Alabama. What more could be said about it? A fantastic and beautiful story and I love it so much.
A big black sky (M): if I had to pick only one fic to read for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I love everything about this fic. It's sweet and loving and kind and wholesome and so sad and just wretchedly the best thing I've read. I reread this at least 2 times a year. And every reread it just gets better and better!
A pulled down shade (M): this one is newer to my list but I can already say this is a great and phenomenal fic! The author put their soul into this fic you can really tell, the effort and the love and the hard work. Truly an amazing read and an amazing story!!!
Nice things (M): I'm a sucker for an eighth year fic and this one is very good. I love a pot smoking draco something about it really gives me the vibes I don't know why. This whole fic is wholesome and it deserves so much love!
You've got the antidote for me (M): listen. Soulmate fics. I need more of them okay? I need so many. I love them so much they make me physically ill. Read this it's so good and sweet with a touch of sad.
Burn the witch (E): big fan of the bodyguard trope! This one also has Scorpius in it and I love when Scorpius is in things it makes me happy every time! But a good fic, very interesting plot and the characterization is very good and the ocs are super good too!!
I was late (you were early) (E): one of those "if we both aren't married in 10 years" fics and it's so good! There's also one in draco's pov I'll find you again (I always do)! It's a very cute story and I loved it a whole lot!
Everything a word can mean (T): a short and sweet little ficlet! It's of course a soulmate fic where they have names that their soulmates call them written somewhere on their bodies. And Harry's just so happens to be savior.
10:37 PM on the Floor of the Seventh Floor Corridor Near the Dancing Trolls (G): another short and sweet ficlet! Takes place during 6th year outside of the room of requirement! Very good and I love the characterization and I enjoy the authors take on this part of the books!
Say anything (M): professors au is one of my favorite aus!!!! And mic it with a French speaking draco and a secretly French speaking Harry! It only gets better!!
Little Deaths and How to Avoid Them (or Draco Malfoy's Guide to Stop Dying and Start Living Instead) (T): I loved this fic a whole lot and really enjoyed the dynamic between Harry and Ginny in his oddly enough. I thought it was a very real and thought out fic that also at the same time was wholesome and sweet while going over sexuality and desire. I loved it a whole lot and it made my demisexual heart sing when I saw asexual rep.
Nearly lost things, carefully tended (E): antiques dealer draco and home owner Harry! Harry has some weird things for Draco to look at and he certainly doesn't pick the weirdest things he can find just for the blonde. Nah. Read it. It's great and silly and overall very fun!
I can't think of any more but make sure you leave comments and kudos if you like a fic!!

alr SO
2 things in one bc i dont wanna spam you
so i adopted ambush and bc of some sweet home alabama stuff bc ur also ambushs parent but ur also my parent, i am now ambushes sibling (according to izzy) and idc if u were joking in my eyes i am canon 🫵 /j
also
what if guide got angry or grumpy like he hadnt got his morning coffee in yet
grumpy guide gives off the vibes of
gl: go clean your room (they probably dont have rooms but lemme be) ambush!
ambush: I DONT HAVE A [____]ING ROOM
gl: YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR [____]ING TONE YOU [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] [____] UNHAPPY LITTLE PIECE OF [____]
ambush: 👁️👄👁️
ik its probably not realistic but yea it just randomly came to me idk
also ambush was speaking in caps bc apparently it likes to yell a lot so yea
Alright then -_-
1. Yes, they do have rooms. They need their privacy like we do.
2. Guide can't have coffee, even if it's a hot liquid, he'd get 'extinguished'. I thought of this and I think it'd be funny: alright so when Guide will be active or uses too much power, he'd start to dim like a light bulb. When he dims, he acts sleepy, and in order to be like new, you need to straight up set him on fire.
3. Guide most likely wouldn't swear, unless he was VERY angry. Here's the 'Guide angry scale".
3-A: Annoyed; starting to dim, Rush breaks the lights, entities start arguing, can't find something or someone, entity disagrees to something small.
3-B: Angry; nearly fully dim, accidentally extinguished, entities are fighting (physically), a player forgets their advice too much, entity lightly disagrees.
3-C: Basically snapped; purposely extinguisged, entity is purposely hurt (player or another entity), player isn't listening or skipping him, entity is arguing or isn't listening to what he says.
@izzyindahouse for u as well :D

WIP Weekend Tag Game
I got tagged by @hypnostheory tyty bb
Rules: List your WIPs below (if you only write one fic at a time, feel free to include future WIPs/ideas!) then answer the following questions. Then, tag as many people as you have WIPs (or more). (If you're an artist or other non-fic fandom creator, questions can be found here!)
1. WIP List:
okay bear with me theres a bunch
DAVEKAT -the cowboy one -the waho one and/or the office one -first date/Nastygum -tire trouble part two -the nanny au -the sweet home alabama au -more Silver paint CODA -glory -some princes don’t become kings
FIRST PRINCE -the soulmates au -the omegaverse au -the actor au -the baby one -the hockey one -threes giving - bachelor party -the autism/self expression one
TMA -that last chapter of fanning the flame that was supposed to be about agnes and Jack and I just never fucking wrote anything for it
2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?
here in search of your glory for sure
3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?
so if i ever finish it more silver paint is bound to be the longest
4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?
oooo i love writing the kid fic echoed through my mind is rlly fun tbh i like the drama and doing something ive never written before is rlly fun
5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?
ALL OF THEM but defo the sweet home alabama au bc i think about it allll the time
6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?
-the threesome one bc I have a rlly good idea for it but I’m convinced I’m gonna fall short bc I want it to be kind of long and I struggle with that
7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?
hya usually reads my stuff but uhhh the soulmate au for sure not bc of anything bad but bc it’s almost too quick and I need someone to help me like slow down and set the mood
8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?
ALL OF THEM ACTUALY i kinda just black out and start typing jibberish when i get too stuck and usually it works itself out
9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?
oh uh none of them. i suppose I’m gonna cheat and say the kid fic bc I’m playing with some characters who exist in name only and like I’ve written Philips kids as getting along with Shaan & Zahra’s and his youngest behave like Henry and Bea and June has a little girl who is just like Alex and Alex is going to have a daughter who is just like June
10. Which WIP is the sexiest?
i'm gonna say the actor au but thats just cause i have plans
11. Which WIP is the angstiest?
ooo I don’t do a lot of angst but I’m gonna say the threesome bc Alex is a Dingus in that one BUT MAYBE HOCKEY BC ITS SAD FOR OSCAR AND ARTHUR
12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?
ummmmmmmm. I’m gonna say. The omegaverse one actually it blends canon and fantasy rlly well
13. Which WIP has the best scene setting (in your humble opinion)?
glory. the next chapter has like bits from my favorite concert stuff and I love it
14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?
I wanna say Glory but it could rlly go for any of them I think about them kind of all the time
15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?
the threesome one but that’s bc the idea is rlly good and I want to pull it off college aus are my favorite & should be easy cause I lived in a dorm from age 16-21 but still
16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?
ummmmm no? mb? I think about them before bed to get to sleep tho
17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?
so I like putting different venues of communication in my fic it’s kind of my favorite thing to add and I like writing emotional break downs where the text changes and the vibe becomes rlly frantic
but complexities is a hard stone to lift maybe the hockey one bc they aren’t together yet? and I mostly write established stuff? or the omegaverse one for the same reason
18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?
probs the threesome but that’s just bc hya and I had fun telling each other about it
19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?
NO LOL— maybe I should write something from Pez or Nora’s perspective for the threesome fic but that’s kind of cheating maybe Liam will get a chapter for funnies
20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs.
My college au has a fight over the custody of Nora’s Keurig.
I’m not going to be tagging anyone bc I’m dreadfully late but if anyone wants to do it bc they saw it here they should!

Starting Anew
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Requested: Yes
Summary: After losing your mother, you are absolutely devastated. So is your girlfriend, Wanda. But when Yelena Belova walks into both of your lives, is it possible that something beautiful could come from all this grief?
Pairing: Yelena Belova x Wanda Maximoff x Romanoff!Reader
Word Count: 3.2k
Warnings: grief, rip Nat :(, some violence? It get’s angsty but has a happy ending I swear!
A/N: Vision doesn’t die in this one, just because it’s easier for all the women to have a connection specifically with Nat. But, I mean, he’s not really mentioned so I guess if you want to imagine him as dead that works too lol. Also bestie Wanda doesn’t get blipped in this one! And finally, I’m describing Nat and Yelena’s relationship as a mentor/mentee type vibe in this one, simply because I think it would be weird for Yelena to be like “lol she was like my sister but sweet home Alabama amirite” so I hope that’s okay! Please enjoy!
*****************************************************************************************************
“Clint, where’s Nat?”
The expression on his face made your heart drop.
“Clint,” you started.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered.
“Clint, where is my mom?” you said, your voice wavering.
“She told me to tell you she loves you always,” he said quietly, approaching you, but you backed away.
“No,” you said, “She’s not. She can’t. Why would she? How could you let her do that?! You let her die!” you screamed, falling to your knees. Your body wracked with sobs.
Your mom was gone. She wasn’t coming back.
You let out a cry of agony, unable to feel anything but grief for the loss of your mother.
A pair of arms wrapped around you, and upon recognizing them, you turned around and sobbed into Wanda’s shoulder.
“I’m here, detka. I’m so sorry. I’m here,” she said softly to you, tears rolling down her cheeks as well at the loss of her mentor.
*****************************************************************************************************
You numbly got your suit ready for battle as Wanda entered your room. Her eyes softened at the broken look on your face.
“Y/N, nobody would be upset if you decided to sit this one out,” she said gently, but you shook your head.
“No. I have to do this. For her. I refuse to let her death be in vain,” you said shakily, tears making their way out of your eyes again.
Wanda nodded. “Let’s go win this, then. For her.”
And you did. You won.
*****************************************************************************************************
It was a beautiful ceremony on a beautiful day. Some might say otherwise, considering it was raining, but you just thought it made things even more special. Natasha loved the rain, it was her favorite type of weather. “It’s like the world is giving me a fresh start; washing away the past and letting me start anew,” she would say.
But, on a day like this, you couldn’t fathom how the world could be telling you to start anew after the death of one of the most important people in your life.
Nat had adopted you when you were five years old. She found you in a Hydra base, and the two of you had connected instantly. She didn’t let you go after that day. She was there through the laughs, the smiles, but also the pain, the trauma. She was the one who would sing you to sleep after a nightmare, holding you close. She was your protector. Your мама. And now that she was gone, you weren’t sure if you wanted a fresh start.
Wanda held your hand throughout the process of planning the funeral. She had loved Nat almost as much as you had. Natasha had become Wanda’s mentor when she first joined the compound, and after noticing the two of you dancing around your feelings, she had been the one to give Wanda the final push to ask you out. It was because of her that you and Wanda were together. She had your mom to thank for her being with the love of her life. She just wishes Nat was still around so she could thank her.
She was broken out of her thoughts as you finished your eulogy.
“Ya lyublyu tebya, mama,” you said with tears streaming down your face. You cleared your throat before adding, “If anyone else would like to say a few words about мама, you are welcome to do so now.”
Wanda stood as you walked away from the podium and greeted you with a tight hug, stroking your hair and whispering soothing words into your ear.
You all sat there for a full two hours as various Avengers and Ex-Shield Agents (and even Nick Fury himself) went up to the podium and shared fond memories of your mother. You all laughed and cried over the memory of your mother. You were devastated, yes, but it warmed your heart to know that your mom was so loved, and that her memory would live on.
*****************************************************************************************************
That night, you and Wanda sat in solemn silence, watching Natasha’s favorite show as you simply held each other. The rain had continued to fall, but you didn’t mind; it merely made you feel closer to your mother. Then there was a knock at the door.
You and Wanda both shot up at the sound. Following the events of the recent battle against Thanos, and the chaos in the world, there were plenty of people who weren’t exactly supportive of the Avengers. So whenever there was an unexpected visitor, it threw the two of you into intruder mode.
Wanda summoned her chaos magic in her hands as you grabbed the gun hidden in your bedroom. You approached the door with caution, opening it to find a blonde woman on the other side, staring at the two of you with wide eyes. She was stunning, to say the least. But you shook that thought out of your head as soon as you could, missing the quick but curious glance that Wanda sent your way.
“Who are you?’ You asked dangerously, pointing the gun at her as Wanda readied herself to fight.
“Oh, I swear I don’t mean any harm-” she began in a thick Russian accent, but Wanda cut her off.
“She asked you a question,” she said coldly, tilting her head at the girl.
“I’m Yelena. Yelena Belova. I came to attend Natasha’s funeral, but I was travelling from Russia and my flight was delayed due to storms here in America, but I’m-”
“Yelena?” You asked with wide eyes, your gun immediately dropped on the ground as you quickly reached out to engulf the woman in a hug.
She visibly tensed, unsure of what to make of this sudden physical contact. You pulled away with apologetic eyes, almost as if you had just realized your actions.
“I’m so sorry,” you began, “It’s just, my mom talked so much about you and I hoped I would meet you someday but I-”
“You’re her daughter?” Yelena asked with soft eyes.
You nodded, both of you at a loss for words.
Wanda stepped beside you, taking your hand and squeezing gently as if to convey a message.
You snapped out of your thoughts as she did so.
“Oh! Right, sorry. Would you like to come inside?”
Yelena glanced between the two of you, a guilty look on her face.
“Are you sure? I don’t mean to-”
“Please,” Wanda started, smiling at Yelena kindly, “We insist.”
*****************************************************************************************************
The three of you stayed up for most of the night, sharing countless memories of Natasha.
When your laughter from the most recent story had died down, Yelena smiled at you and Wanda softly.
“You know, I find it kind of comforting that it happened to rain today of all days. Natasha used to say that it was like-”
“The world was giving her a chance to start anew,” the three of you said in unison, smiling at each other at the shared knowledge of Nat.
“Kind of hard to see how I can start anew. Live a life without her,” you said quietly after a while.
“Well, the rain washes away some of the old, yes,” Yelena started, “but other things it merely helps to grow.”
Wanda nods, smiling at Yelena’s helpful words. “Like the flowers,” Wanda added.
Yelena smiles back at her. “Yes, the flowers. And like the flowers, your love for your mother will only continue to grow from this. It doesn’t have to come to an end. Her memory can continue to grow and live on.”
You nodded, tears flowing down your face. “Yeah, you’re right. Thank you,” you said softly to the both of them.
They merely smiled at you, Wanda taking your hand in hers and squeezing it comfortingly, as a silent promise.
Her memory would live on.
*****************************************************************************************************
You and Wanda invited Yelena to stay with you after that night. You figured since you shared a bond with Nat that was unique to the three of you, that it would help all of you in the healing process to be with each other.
Six months. That’s how long Yelena had been staying with you.
Throughout that time, there were little things that began happening that you and Wanda barely noticed, such as date nights between the two of you becoming scarce; instead you would both opt to spend the night in with Yelena, watching movies and sharing stories.
Or how when you would be catching up with the rest of the Avengers on video calls, your stories slowly shifted from “Wanda and I” to “Yelena, Wanda, and I”.
Or how your nightmares had slowly stopped. How the tears became a rarity. How your smile began to light up the room more often than not. How you were okay.
Until one night you did notice.
You, Wanda, and Yelena were having one of your many movie nights when it began to rain. The three of you shared a soft smile at that. But then a clap of thunder sounded and you nearly jumped out of your own skin in fear.
Two pairs of concerned eyes were on yours and suddenly Yelena and Wanda were at your side.
“Are you okay, moya lyubov?” Wanda asked
You nodded, your eyes still wide with fear, causing your reassurances to be very unconvincing.
“Yeah, just...thunderstorms, you know?”
You hated thunderstorms with a passion. They terrified you. Your mom had always been the one to hold you through them and rock you back and forth, singing you sweet lullabies to get you to fall asleep.
Since she had passed, Wanda had taken on that role as much as possible.
But now, Yelena is the first to make physical contact with you, placing her hand on your leg comfortingly.
The action causes butterflies to erupt in your stomach and blush to coat your cheeks. Wait what?
The thought left your mind when another rumble of thunder sounded through the night. You began to shake, hugging yourself to calm yourself down.
Yelena looked to Wanda questioningly, as if asking how she could help.
“I’m going to make her some tea to calm her down, and I’ll plug in her heated blanket in the bedroom. Could you stay with her?” Wanda asked.
“Of course,” Yelena answered without hesitation.
Wanda smiled gratefully and placed a kiss to your forehead before leaving the room.
“Y/N?” Yelena asked, noting the far-off look in your eyes.
“Can you...nevermind,” you mumbled, eyes cast down at the ground.
“Y/N, what is it?” Yelena pushed.
You sighed, knowing it was the only way you would be able to feel safe.
“Could you maybe, like, hold me? God, I know it sounds stupid, sorry, I shouldn’t have-”
But Yelena was already wrapping her arms around you and holding you close.
You sighed at the feeling, feeling unbelievably safe in her strong arms.
“I’ve got you,” Yelena says softly.
You merely nod, not having the energy to do anything else, before letting your eyes droop and sleep take over you.
Wanda enters the room soon after you’ve fallen asleep. At the sight of you curled up in Yelena’s arms, her heart practically melted. It was only when she felt the love for the girl holding you radiating from your form that she felt she could’ve sighed in relief.
You see, Wanda had been feeling things recently. Things for a certain blonde. And she felt overwhelmed with guilt. I mean, of course she still loved you. She loved you more than words could describe. But she was feeling a similar feeling for Yelena. She hoped it would pass, but of course, it didn’t. It merely grew stronger as time went on.
And now, she felt as though she could breathe easy, because she knew she wasn’t alone. You, too, were feeling what she was. She composed herself before smiling softly at Yelena and sitting beside her.
“Thank you for looking after her,” Wanda says quietly, as not to wake the sleeping girl in Yelena’s arms.
Yelena’s eyes never leave your sleeping form as she replies.
“Always.”
*****************************************************************************************************
When you woke, you were in your bed, Wanda awake beside you, smiling softly down at you.
“Good morning, lyubov,” she greeted.
You smiled at her.
“Good morning, Wanda.”
She didn’t miss the way your eyes flitted to the door, as if expecting someone to enter.
“Yelena is at the store. We were running low on groceries,” she informed you with a knowing smirk.
You looked at her in confusion.
“What’s that look for?”
She takes your hand.
“I think we need to talk about Yelena.”
It was then that you realized she could read minds, and you knew she knew. You shot up, eyes wide with guilt, your breathing becoming slightly frantic.
“Wanda, I didn’t mean to...I don’t want to...I can’t lose you…” you rambled, eyes filling with tears.
Wanda’s eyes softened and she pulled you into her arms. “Oh, sweetheart. You won’t lose me. I feel the same way,” she explained.
You looked up at her. “Wait, you do?” You asked hopefully and she smiled brightly at you.
“I do.”
“So...what does that mean for us?”
She shrugged. “I think it means we invite her to join our relationship.”
Your eyes visibly lit up and her heart warmed at the sight.
“Okay. Let’s tell her.”
*****************************************************************************************************
Yelena looked at the two of you with concerned eyes as you sat in front of her in the living room, both of you practically bubbling with nerves.
“Is everything alright?” She asked hesitantly.
“We love you.” You blurted out before slapping a hand over your mouth at the boldness of your sudden confession.
Yelena was gaping at the both of you with wide eyes.
‘That wasn’t part of our speech we planned, detka,’ Wanda’s voice sounded through your head and you winced. She merely rolled her eyes at your silence and took over.
“What Y/N is trying to say,” Wanda began, “Is that we talked it over, and we both have feelings for you. Of the romantic nature. And we’d like for you to join our relationship.”
Yelena gulped. Silence engulfed the room and it became suffocating.
“Sorry if we-”
“I have to go.” Yelena stated suddenly.
Your heart dropped.
“I have unfinished business in Russia,” she lied. You and Wanda saw right through it, but didn’t want to make things more tense.
“When do you leave?” Wanda asked quietly.
“Tomorrow.”
“Oh,” is all you said.
“I should go pack.”
And with that, Yelena left the room.
*****************************************************************************************************
Two weeks. She had only been gone two weeks, but you and Wanda were struggling because of it. You had both put yourselves out there and gotten your hearts broken.
You were curled up on the couch and Wanda was in the shower when it happened.
A knock sounded at the door. You still had hope, even after two weeks of no contact from her. So you jumped up from your spot and rushed to open the door.
But it wasn’t Yelena at the door.
It was a stranger. He had a deadly look in your eye and you gulped nervously.
“Can I-”
“You. You’re that Black Widow bitch’s daughter.”
Your eyes widened.
“Fuck her and the rest of the Avengers. They’re scum. I wish I could’ve killed her myself, but I guess you’ll have to do,” he sneered, raising his gun at you.
You didn’t have time to react before a gunshot rang out through the apartment. You gasped and he ran.
You looked down to see a red spot on your stomach, growing larger by the second.
A panicked voice sounded behind you.
“Y/N?! What was-” You turned around and she gasped as she saw the blood on your hands and stomach dripping onto the floor.
“I’m sorry,” you said. And then you collapsed.
*****************************************************************************************************
Yelena wasn’t in Russia. God, no. She was staying in a hotel on the opposite side of town as she figured out where to go from here. She was looking at new apartments when her phone rang for the umpteenth time. She sighed, finally checking the caller ID. Her eyes widened as she saw Wanda’s name on the screen. She tossed the phone away from her.
A minute later, she got a notification for a voicemail. She took a deep breath and pressed play.
Wanda’s voice began to sound throughout the trashy hotel room.
“Yelena. I know you left, and I know you likely want nothing to do with us, but I had to let you know. Y/N is in the hospital. She’s in critical condition. I have no idea how it happened. I should’ve been there to protect her but I stepped away for a moment to shower and I-”
There was a pause.
“You probably don’t give a shit, I don’t know why I’m calling, I’m sorry. Hope you’re doing well.”
And then it was silent.
Tears were streaming down Yelena’s face as she decided what she needed to do.
*****************************************************************************************************
You woke up to a bright light and an aggravating beeping beside you. You tried to sit up but groaned in pain.
“Malyshka, no, lay back down,” a voice said, and your head snapped to the source at the familiarity of it. There, sitting beside you, was none other than Yelena.
“What are you-”
“She came to see you. To see us,” Wanda said softly, taking your hand.
“But, I thought you left. I thought you didn’t care about-” but Yelena cut you off with the shake of her head.
“No. That’s just not true,” she denied.
You sighed. “Then why-”
She took your other hand. That shut you up pretty quickly.
“Because I was scared,” she started. “I was scared and so I ran. It was so wrong of me and I’m so sorry. But when I heard you were hurt? God, I immediately realized. I feel the same way. For both of you.” She took Wanda’s hand as well.
“What are you scared of?” You asked softly, squeezing her hand.
“I just…” She trailed off, and Wanda’s eyes glowed red briefly before she cut in.
“She thinks it’s a little morbid that we all met because of your mom’s death,” she said.
Yelena looked at her with wide eyes, to which Wanda simply shrugged and tapped her temple. “Mind reader, remember?”
You spoke up. “What is it you said when we first met? That things can grow from a fresh start? Love can grow?”
“Like the flowers,” Wanda added gently, smiling softly at you and Yelena.
Almost as if on cue, you looked out the window of your hospital room to see rain beginning to fall.
The three of you looked outside in awe.
“I love you, Y/N. I love you, Wanda.” Yelena blurted out. “I’m done hiding it.”
“We love you too,” you and Wanda said at the same time.
Yelena kissed Wanda softly, before separating and connecting her lips with yours. Once you pulled away, you looked at the two girls.
“Cuddles?”
They laughed at your antics before getting onto the hospital bed and settling in on either side of you. The three of you talked, laughed, and exchanged tender kisses for hours before your two girlfriends finally fell asleep.
You smiled softly at them before looking out the window once more, admiring the rain.
“Thanks, мама,” you whispered.
*****************************************************************************************************
A/N: I hope you enjoyed! Sorry for taking so long to post it, I had major writer’s block with this one! Hopefully I’ll be posting more often now!

My first thought in regard to every band that gets played on my radio station
ACDC: Every dad’s favourite band
Adams, Bryan: Every mom’s favourite singer until Michael Buble came along
Aerosmith: haha they thought Vince Neil was a lady
Alice Cooper: he’s a Game Of Thrones fanboy and I have proof
Alice In Chains: my sister doesn’t like them because she decided AC were Alice Cooper’s initials ONLY
Allman Brothers Band: good music for dropping acid to
Allman, Gregg: That’s too many Gs for one name
Animals: House Of The Rising Sun, or who even cares
Argent: Sometimes Hold Your Head Up is really catchy
Asia: Tuesdays
Autograph: one of the members went on to be a pharmacist
Bachman-Turner Overdrive: There are just so many pop culture jokes about Taking Care Of Business that whatever I say won’t be as funny
Bad Company: with their song; Bad Company, off their album; Bad Company
Benatar, Pat: Always getting her confused with Patti Smith
Black Crowes: I like them for Lickin, but it doesn’t seem to exist outside of one shoddy video on youtube and my old CD
Blackfoot: this band name feels kind of racy
Black Sabbath: Dio was not better or worse than Ozzy; just different
Blondie: I like Call Me, but Blondie confuses me stylistically
Blue Oyster Cult: MORE COWBELL

Supertramp: I hunted for Breakfast In America for two years and it was worth every hunt
Sweet: I will never understand my two-month obsession with Ballroom Blitz when I was 15, but it was legit all I listened to
Talking Heads: you may find yourself in a pizza hut. And you may find yourself in a taco bell. And you may find yourself at the combination pizza hut and taco bell. And you may ask yourself; ‘how did I get here?’
Temple Of The Dog: I keep confusing them for Nazareth
Ten Years After: somehow still relevant
Tesla: not the car or the dude
The Beatles: Evokes a lot of opinions from people. Mine is that I love them
The Clash: I showed my sister the ‘Lock The Taskbar’ vine ONCE and it still kills her
The Doors: evokes teenage terror from deep within my soul
The Guess Who: Canada’s answer to confusing question-themed band names
The Kinks: kinky
The Police: wrote the theme of 2020 and everyone somehow forgot it was about a teacher resisting becoming a pedophile
The Ramones: playing all of their songs in a row wouldn’t take more than 2 hours
The Romantics: you don’t think you know them, but if you’ve seen Shrek 2, you have
The Who: If someone can explain Tommy to me, I’d be glad to hear it
The Zombies: I think they happened because of the 60s
Thin Lizzy: Could the boys maybe leave town?

omg may i request a soft eugene post-war fic? 🥺💓 thank you
Greener Pastures; Eugene Sledge
Fandom: HBO War; The Pacific
A/N: when I was deciding what to do for this one, I literally wrote “strawberry cow vibes” in my notes 😂 but anyway, in case some of you don’t know the Gulf means the Gulf of Mexico. Alabama is right on it, and there’s beaches. Thank you for requesting sweet pea! 💕 I hope you like it 😊
Warning: nope, it’s too soft
Taglist: @liebegott @stressedinadress @hellitwasyoufirstsergeant @floydtab @hbohmygodx @meteora-fc @punkgeekchic @alienoresimagines
__________
The cow pasture wasn't really either of your's idea of romantic, but you couldn't think of a better place to take Eugene. His parents had told you, in confidence, that he had been spending a lot of time just sitting outside since he came home, so you figured you could convince him to sit with you outside somewhere else.
“How d’you feel about taking a walk with me?” You showed up on his doorstep in your oldest dress, one you didn’t mind getting dirty, and promises of lunch and your sister’s sweet tea.
He could never hold back a smile when you came around, but it still felt a little more special seeing it now when he looked so somber all the time. “Sure.”
You tugged him along back to your property line. You smirked at him after you made a perfect landing after climbing over the fence.
“Your mother know you still jump fences?”
Rolling your eyes, you subconsciously smoothed your skirt at the mention of your mother. “She doesn’t know about a lot of things I do.” With a pointed look, you continued with, “And she never will. Mama would keel over if she knew I stole Daddy’s old boots too.” You stuck out your feet to show the worn, brown lace-ups.
He shook his head, pulling himself over the fence and softly landing next to you. “I wondered why you were dragging your feet.”
A patch of white wildflowers all but begged you to pluck them. You picked several more as you two strolled through the pasture. Finding the only shade tree in the whole stretch, you two settled into the grass, and you began twisting and braiding the flowers you gathered.
"You still do that?" He watched as you worked at the stems, making them lay flat and hold together.
"Mmhm," you nodded, continuing to make your flower chain. "We get so many pretty ones in the summer, and all my little cousins that come stay with us end up in a crown. I can't help myself."
Your fingers moved gently but held everything firmly, and he couldn't have been more mesmerized by anything.
"You used to march around with those little things on your head all the time," he recalled.
You paused to laugh at the memory. "I'd still do it too."
"Oh, I know you would."
"At least these stay together now." You were adding long pieces of weeds and grass to make it thicker—the secret to keeping a flower crown together was to make it tight and thick. "I used to run around with stems and leaves poking out every which way. Pieces stuck in my hair, and everything else falling off behind me."
A breathy laugh escaped his lips, and his head nodded up and down. "I remember. I thought you were beautiful then too."
You wished you could say it was the sun that caused your cheeks to warm, but you'd be lying if you said he couldn't still give you butterflies. "Gene, you flatter me too much. What are we gonna do when it's all gone to my head?"
He leaned in close and pecked your cheek. "That's not gonna happen."
You sighed, amused by his assurance. You finished the crown and secured the ends to keep it from undoing itself. Placing the hoop onto Eugene's head, you smiled at him.
He tried to look up, but all he could see of it was a lone petal and leaf sticking out past his forehead. "Fits perfect. Did you measure my head?"
"Oh yeah, while you were asleep," you joked, giggling.
The sight of him, hair shining auburn in the sun in contrast to the crown of green and white, made your heart swell. Something about him right now seemed ethereal and fragile.
You knew he was a bit fragile in actuality. He'd faced unimaginable things while he was away—things he wouldn't tell you in full detail lest these demons found a way to haunt you too. And yet now, his fragility was different. More child-like.
Just as you were getting closer to reaching your hand out to touch him, to make sure he was still real, a loud "Mooo!" ripped across the pasture.
You both turned to see the herd moseying its way from the other end closer to where you were.
"Looks like the girls are coming this way," you noted for no particular reason. It was quite obvious.
He got to his feet, dusting off the grass and dirt from his pants before hoisting you up too. "One thing I missed the most—other than you—was familiar animals. I'd be okay if I never saw a crab again."
"I've seen little hermit crabs at the beach before," you recalled from some trips past to the Gulf. "They're cute."
"Nothing like those crazy-looking things." He held out his hands in a football sized oval. "They were about this big and kinda fascinating. Sid tried to burn one when I first showed up."
You were taken aback. “He what?”
Eugene only shrugged, and you realized that there were probably quite a few things about these boys you had known for so long that might shock you now.
“I know we haven’t really talked about...” You reached for his hand, letting him decide if he wanted to comply or not. “I know that there’s going to be a lot of things we’re gonna have to work through and figure out, but that’s okay.” His hand was in yours now, and you lightly squeezed. “I’m here for the long haul.”
Neither of you could say who started crying first, but he was quick to wrap his arms around you. Tears soaking into each other’s clothes, the pasture melted away. The cows milking around you ceased to exist. All there was in moment were you and him and all the things you couldn’t say.

what the haikyuu!! boys/girls favorite songs/bands are📼
hello! this is my first post so i hope im doing it right :P anyways enjoy!
Tumblr media
karasuno💾
daichi: Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. he’s such a typical dad holy shit so yeah he 100% listens to this i don’t know what else to say like- 🤠 yeah he probably sings it in his minivan (you cannot convince me that he doesn’t drive a minivan)
sugawara: WAP by Cardi B. yes we stan this bad bitch. he LOVES this song like he can do the dance and everything and he pulls it off like the baddie he is please someone animate this i NEED it anyways yeah he doesn’t really sing it but he 100% has done the dance in front of daichi.
asahi: Lullaby by Johannes Brahms. this baby hes such a slut for classical music and he always listens to it before a big game to calm his nerves. he pretends that he’s listening to something “tough” but everyone knows that he listens to classcial, they just pretend to not know.
nishinoya: Old Town Road by Lil Nas X. yeah, he hasn’t gotten out of the old town road phase and he unironically sings it and does a yeehaw dance. no one can stop him because everyone (except tanaka) is too embarrassed to be around him when he sings and dances, so he thinks it’s ok (honey, no), also, tanaka sometimes joins in and it’s painful to hear and see.
tanaka: GOOBA by 6xi9ine. he thinks it’s “badass” and tries to rap it whenever it comes on, and he fails horribly, but nishinoya always hypes him up saying that he did a good job, causing him to start singing again please save karasuno from hinata, nishinoya, and tanaka’s singing
ennoshita: Cough Syrup by Young The Giant. though it may not seem like it, but this man has got music TASTE like- yes. anyways yeah this song is a vibe and he really likes it. he once tried to introduce good music to tanaka and nishinoya, but they said it was “boring” and “sappy” and he never wanted to beat them up more than he did then.
kageyama: he listens to like play by play volleyball games or podcasts that talk about improving your skills because he’s a hoe for that volleyball shit try and prove me wrong i dare you
hinata: Red by Taylor Swift. he has terrible music taste and he literally just listens to what’s popular and like what his sister listens to. he likes to sing outloud and his voice is worse than oikawa- like karasuno cannot handle hinata singing at all it’s literal earrape.
tsukishima: Fancy by Twice. tsukki is a hardcore kpop stan, and he 100% listens to twice religiously, like that's the majority of his playlist, and he refuses to play his music out loud, and everyone thinks he listens to like rock or some shit like that. only yams knows that tsukki listens to it and he was sworn to secrecy.
yamaguchi: Sports by Beach Bunny. he likes to hum it quietly to himself because he really likes the beat and the lyrics. tsukishima has this song saved on his playlist just for yams and he plays it whenever they share headphones.
kiyoko: Body by Megan Thee Stallion. i dont know what to say, she is just a baddie who loves the confidence boost she gets from listening to this song as she should kiyoko is amazing she even learned the tiktok dance to this song and she performed it to yaichi yaichi.exe has stopped working but she won’t show it to anyone else anyways shes just a baddie and we stan.
yachi: Green by Cavetown. yeah she really likes the calming peaceful vibes this song has and she likes to sing it quietly when she is in a public place, like a bus or a subway to calm herself down and she also plays it when she studies.
aoba johsai 📼
oikawa: Bubblegum Bitch by MARINA because it just raidates that “i’m hotter than you” energy (just like he does our twink king). he prob sings it in the locker room while everyone is changing and his singing bursts everyones eardrums omg the whole team hates oikawa’s singing so much
matsukawa: Toad sings WAP he’s such a memer like- yeah so he and makki probably obsess over these toad sings video because 1. they are funny as hell like it’s some god tier comedy and 2. they say oikawa sounds like that when he sings it’s true tho
hanamaki: Toad sings Sweet Home Alabama. he and mattsun have a running debate about which one is better, and they ask the opinions of literally everyone they meet about it. so far more people have chose maki’s favorite song and he’s a little smug about it.
iwaizumi: Ride by twenty one pilots. this is probably like one of his secret pleasures. most people think he listens to like rap or something like that, but he really likes this song. he hopes that oikawa will never find out about this, because he will never hear the end of the teasing, so he just listens to this song while he is by himself, or just without the team.
yahaba: Walking On A Dream by Empire Of The Sun. idk this just feels right, like i really have no explanation why i think this works it just does🤠
kindaichi: Wake Me Up bye Avicii. this man is borderline bad taste, but we will let it slide for now, so yeah again, he just gives me the avicii stan vibes, he probably thought he would like rap more, but one day he heard avicii playing on the radio and he was hooked. he still pretends to like rap because he has a “reputation”
kunimi: Advice by Cavetown. this man gives absolutley zero fucks about everyone’s opinions you bet your ass he listens to this song. he 100% puts headphones in to listen to this while someone is talking to him because he just doesn’t want to have a conversation with them. everyone hates when he does that, but again, he doesn’t give a shit.
kyotani: We Will Rock You by Queen. yeah this is probably his pump up jam and he always listens to it before a game to get hyped up. if anyone dares to talk to him while he has headphones in, he will not hesitate to bite their head off i know this for a fact.
nekoma💾
kuroo: Yarichin Bitch Club OP. ever since kenma introduced him to anime OPs, he’s been obsessed, and he loves the yarichin op becuase 1. it’s dirty and he thinks that’s funny and 2. it actually slaps like why does it go so hard i’m in awe- anyways yeah he always sings it in the most public places just to get attention bc he’s a whore for the spotlight like that 😌. he also sings it with bokuto whenever they are together bc we stan the dumbass duo.
yaku: Arms Tonite by Mother Mother. yeah he is kinda obsessed with mother mother but this is hands down his favorite song. lev once heard yaku listening to this song and made fun of it, and let’s just say lev got the ass whopping of his life, yaku takes no prisoners- anyways yeah he just vibes with it and it’s great.
yamamoto: Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men. the whole nekoma team HATES his music taste, and they never let him play any music becasue- it’s just so bad i’m sorry this man has no taste like have you seen his hair? (the slander is real :))
kenma: Hikaru Nara (Your Lie in April OP) kenma loves to listen to anime ops while gaming bc they are highkey all bops and he says they help him concentrate. he tried to get kuroo to listen to the songs with him, and kuroo started to like listening to anime OPs, so they usually listen to them together.
fukunaga: he listens to like john mulaney comedy shows becuse he’s a little dork like that and (timeskip spoiler) he becomes a comedian later on so it just fits 🤠
inuoka: Roar by Katy Perry. again, it’s just the vibes that i get from him, i can’t explain it, he just seems like a big dork who would like this shit. so yeah, he probably sings this song really loudly when it comes on and the whole nekoma team just has to tolerate him when he does it.
lev: Ra Ra Rasputin by Boney M. he probably started listening to this song as a joke because he’s Russian, and the songs about Russia, but he genuinely started enjoying it and whenever it comes on, he starts singing. his voice isn’t actually that bad but yaku still gets annoyed as hell when he does it and beats the shit out of him.
fukurodani 📼
bokuto: Mr. Brightside by The Killers. he gets really excited when this plays and always gets up to sing it really really loudly, and do a really energetic dance. akaashi calm your child please he’s not a good singer, but he’s not a terrible one either, so the team has just gotten used to it.
akaashi: This Side of Paradise by Coyote Theory. eep akaashi the hopeless romantic we stan- anyways yeah he found this band in like his first year of high school and has been addicted ever since. he doesn’t really share his taste in music with others, but the one time he let bokuto listen to music with him, bokuto got way to excited and accidentally dropped akaashi’s phone and cracked it.
konoha: Spirits by The Strumbellas. idk i just feel like he would listen to this song. he would never play his music out loud though, because bokuto always takes the aux cord/ speaker before anyone gets the chance to.
shiratorizawa💾
ushijima: he doesn’t listen to music. like if tendou offers to play music with him, he’ll accept, but like he’s just confused why people like listening to music so much, so he will just listen with that face he always makes (😐) while tendo is jumping around, dancing, and going batshit crazy.
semi: All I Wanted by Paramore. he is flat out obsessed with this band and he learned how to play this song on his electric guitar and has went to a couple of their concerts. semi 100% makes fun of his teammates music taste as he should
tendou: Yoda CBT remix (i linked it if you want to listen), ok but seriously, i think money machine by 100 Gecs. tendo is so chaotic and i think his music taste reflects that. he cannot listen to music without dancing or singing, and he always plays his music on full volume (hearing? what’s that?) tendo never gets the aux cord, because the last time they gave it to him, the speakers almost broke.
goshiki: Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. this little dork omg i really don’t have an explanation for this, it just fits and i take no criticism on this because y’all know it’s true.
shirabu: Cigarette Ahegao by Penelope Scott. semi introduced him to this song and he pretened he didn’t like it but he’s secretly obsessed. i think he generally doesn’t like music but this song- this song is such a vibe that he has to like it. (anyways yeah go listen to this song its so good)
inarizaki 📼
kita: Animal by Neon Trees. he isn’t really open about listening to music, he only listens to his songs when he is alone and when he has earbuds in, and if someone walks up to him to talk, he takes his earphones out (we stan a respectful boy). so yeah, he isn’t a big fan of music, but he still likes to listen from time to time.
aran: You Know It by Colony House. he will never listen to music in front of anyone because whenever he hears this song, he has to sing, and he doesn’t like singing in front of people (the miya twins are annoying he can’t do anything in front of them🙄), but yeah, this songs really good we stan this man’s music taste.
atsumu: Girls in the Hood by Megan Thee Stallion. this man LOVES this song like- he is obsessed. if you ask him something, he will literally reply with “can’t talk right now, doing hot girl shit” and he just walks away and ur just like- what the fuck bro. anyways yeah he thinks he’s a bad bitch but he really is just a dork.
suna: 505 by The Arctic Monkeys. yeah, the basic choice would probably be “why’d you only call me when you’re high”, but i feel like he would like this song better because it starts off kinda vibey, and then it goes into this great guitar bit, and just- the v i b e s so yeah i think he really likes this shit.
osamu: cooking podcasts. like he literally doesn’t listen to music, just shit about cooking. atsumu makes fun of him for it and he is just like “bitch shut up and go do ur hot girl shit 😐” and just walks away and keeps on listening to his cooking shit. (we stan this petty bitch)
others💾
saeko: E-GIRLS ARE RUINING MY LIFE! by CORPSE and Savage Ga$p. this is self explanatory, she just is a bad bitch and this is what bad bitches listen to 😌 she def has played this song while getting it on with someone.
terushima: Bust It Open by Lil’ Wil. we all know terushima listens to these thirst trap songs and tries to do the tik tok dances that are associated with them. he probably posts videos to these songs on tik tok and they get a good amount of likes (cough cough he has a following of many thirsty girls).
sakusa: 24 hours of nothing yeah he doesn’t listen to music he just puts this on with headphones so people won’t bother him. he finds the silence relaxing and hates it when people interrupt him (cough cough atsumu)
btw: for some of the songs that aren’t on basic streaming services, i linked the youtube video for them.
anyways, i hope you enjoyed my first post [eep finishing this made me really happy]! have a nice day!
bye for now🌊

shakespearean au: sge concept
warning - this is long and contains otk spoilers (and macbeth spoilers lol). no i do not offer refunds for time wasted. but if u don’t read this, i will find u because my fatigue is fuelling me w anger :)
11:00 pm: ok so I was casually floating in a bowl of water (segue- what is the point of baths? you can literally do the same things in ur bed but dry...) thinking about how great a shakespearean au would be... yes, I hate Shakespeare’s pretentious ass and if I have to read Romeo and Juliet one more time, I might obliterate my existence. however, imagine the drama of a midsummer nights dream au- immaculate fairy hallucinogenic woods vibes w the magic of fairies that could be linked to sge, just everyone going insane bacchanal in the woods. sadly there are more characters in this play than unnecessary first years in TCY so I decided to try twelfth night instead.
12:30 am: ok, I have tried every combination of characters possible for twelfth night (just imagine - agatha in the position of duke orsino and tedros in the position of viola, ah the angsty friends to lovers, the jealousy arc potential, misunderstood love ahh) but I always ended up w an agaphie... incident (sweet home alabama)
2:00 am: tried hamlet, taming of the shrew and king lear (plot is way to depressing)... becoming delusional
2:30 am: I WON’T GIVE UP UNTIL SHAKESPEARE IS AT MY KNEES, HERE I PRESENT U ... MACBETH
macbeth au
if u don’t know the plot... uncultured. jk i blame the british education system for my knowledge of this play but here’s a plot summary
let’s pretend scotland is camelot? yeah, just do it.
also: “Fair is foul, and foul is fair, hover through fog and filthy air.” (aka the only quote i can lowkey remember from year 9 for an absolute trash equivocation essay i waffled)
oh and also “what, you egg?” (he stabs him) - do i even have to explain the amazing significance of this quote? pls keep reading, i’m not insane.
character list:
macbeth - rhian
ok confession - i love rhian, 100% didn’t deserve to die so here he can be the tragic protagonist
outshone tedros in QFG (not that hard tbh) and gave us a glimpse of never!tedros’ potential character similarities - corrupted by evil, assuming that there r good intentions in evil people, kinda power hungry, thinks he deserves a position he really doesn’t, tricked by a prophecy
he’s a simp for sophie lets be honest (soz keian shippers) so the choice for lady macbeth should be...
lady macbeth - sophie
ok, just imagine, no morals/manipulative sophie slowly going insane and having power over powerful men- my fave trope of her wanting to kill rafal/king duncan but unable to pull through last minute because of her daddy issues... yes <3
slowly going insane cus she can’t balance her evilness and her humanity
the hand washing scene...
“Look like the innocent flower, But be the serpent under it.”
the guards that are killed by lady macbeth and macbeth - nicola and hort
they were a cute duo when they investigate in QFG and that’s abt it, hence the short roles
the dagger - excalibur
cursed swords check
3 witches - mistral sisters
bruh this is perfect, i don’t have to explain, this is all slotting into place
king duncan - ... yoooo, does it really matter, just the previous king of Camelot. wait maybe that Uther guy. whatever.
banquo - chaddick
im tired, ur just gonna have to pretend that tedros is king arthur’s grandson and yes, chaddick’s son
i shall allow chaddick to have an actual role where he is a humble, loyal knight who isn’t just conveniently used to fulfil some random prophecy... oh wait poor guy was wronged so bad in TCY- ok ik he dies in macbeth too but like he has a bigger role here than in the 6 sge books. chaddick/ banquo are good plot devices that only exist so the prophecy makes sense, bingo!
macduff - tedros
c-section king
he just would be that character with the unique and coincidental part of his past that allows him to be king
young and underestimated check
daddy issues and family trauma
kinda doesn’t deserve to be king but uno what, ~prophecies~
(just forget abt malcolm’s existence, i have the power now)
the king of england - agatha
agatha as king... we love to see it yes this is my way of incorporating tagatha just pretend macduff falls in love with the king of england ok.  agatha breaks the news that tedros’ dad has just died- cute comforting scene
scottish macduff realises the english are ok just like tedros realises agatha isn’t a witch... idk someone write a oneshot
3:30 am:
me: let’s fix all my mistakes w some aesthetic mood board ideas.
*types in “macbeth aesthetic” into pinterest* *chooses the first 3 images*
this is very much adequate
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4:00 am; do what you will with this information, people of the internet. this doesn’t even make sense at this point. can’t wait for the black coffee overdose my body will endure tomorrow :) also i love how the sleep deprivation slowly makes my tone more aggressive. im a simp for tagatha but rhian being the main character makes me happy. how do y’all make ur theories and stuff all pretty. WAIT NO COVEN! wait no hester oml... ok maybe the 3 witches might have to be the coven, wow, i can’t believe i’ve done this.
ok imagine them all running around in a circle chanting “Double, double, toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble!” - iconic
ok, they can be the king of england’s attendants.
4:15 am: haha just brushed my teeth... why is this so chaotic. i cant get myself to proof read this because then i have to acknowledge how much time i have acc wasted so pls be traumatised by this chronic brain puke. will i ever write this fic... probably not but miracles happen. good night girls and gays - sweet dreams :) probs will regret this in the morning... oh how i worship the anonymity of tumblr
ps - currently writing a hate essay on hort which i might never release on fear of assasination by 12 year olds... we love to see it
pps - if u made it this far, idk what to tell u, u have perseverance. or maybe u just can’t read. how do i end these things and why am i treating this like a dear diary blog. goodbye. oh yeah, can some sge accounts maybe like... idk... interact w me uwu. i will go insane if i have to play devil’s advocate w myself any longer... GOODNIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

key signatures: what’s the difference? part 1/2
Y’all may have heard me talk about key signatures a lot, especially if you know me personally. Some of you may be thinking things like “Ok, what does that mean?” or “How are these to keys different?”. Well then, my friends, prepare to learn some things about sounds today.
First, let’s talk about what a key signature is. I’ll keep this brief because today isn’t for defining things, but a song’s key is the central musical scale it’s based around. What key the song is in can dramatically change the song’s mood, and a lot of artists employ this effect by changing keys at certain points during the song. This is basically gonna be a list of the 24 commonly used keys and modes and what kind of feelings they spark. Of course, this is gonna all be from my point of view, so feel free to discuss what certain key signatures sound like to you.
Anyway, we’ll start with the major keys. Also, called the Ionian mode by music nerds, the major keys are typically associated with happy songs. To me, they often give off a brighter color than their minor counterparts. Without further ado, let’s start talking about sounds.
C Major - While there is a lot you can do with this key, it gives off a feeling of home and contentment. It’s got a nice sky blue color to it, which sort of adds a sense of relaxation and restfulness to some songs that use it. A few songs that use this key include “House of Gold” by twenty one pilots and “All the Small Things” by blink-182.
D♭ major - One of my favorite keys, this one is similar to C major in conveying a sense of contentment or stagnation, but this one can pack a ton of emotion into it as well. The specific emotions packed into this key vary by song, but pretty much any song you hear in this key will be full of it. Take a listen to “Sasanqua” by Afterglow or “Amaryllis” by Shinedown to get a feel for what I mean.
D major - This is a very sunny key to me, evoking feelings of getting up and doing things and just seizing the day sort of. It’s definitely a very happy key signature, and you can see this in songs like “I’m Not Alright” by Shinedown or “Stars” by Andrew Huang.
E♭ major - A versatile key, E♭ major can convey a wide range of emotions, from nostalgia, to inspiration, to wonder, and many others. Overall, it carries positive and hopeful undertones, and songs in this key typically help me during a rough patch. You've probably heard this key in a lot of songs, such as Coldplay's "Fix You" and Imagine Dragons' "Demons". Another song I definitely recommend is "This Isn't The End" by Owl City, which starts off in E♭ and is just a beautiful song overall.
E major - Like E♭ major, E major has a ton of versitality. The main difference here is that this key cranks it up to 11. All emotions are amplified listening to songs in E. Especially nostalgia; any nostalgic song in E major just feels so much more so than almost any other song. "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey and "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic are perfect examples of this.
F major - One of my favorite keys, there’s a lot of ways it can be used. It lends itself to the meaning of the song and amplifies whatever emotion it conveys. You see this in songs like “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars and “21 Guns” by Green Day. It’s hard to really pinpoint a specific set of emotions conveyed by this key because it’s so damn flexible, but the one thing that remains consistent is that it’s an extremely beautiful key. It is the musical equivalent of the word “beautiful”. Take a listen to ONE OK ROCK’s “Wasted Nights” or LiSA’s “No More Time Machine” and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
G♭ major - Come to think of it, there aren’t many songs that I’ve heard in this key. There are several songs in its relative minor key, E♭ minor, but the major key is almost devoid of music I’ve heard. So based on the few songs I have heard, those being “All Star” by Smash Mouth, “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay, “Y.M.C.A.” by Village People, and of course “ZEAL of proud” by Roselia, I’ll try to come up with something. The one thing these songs (well, three of them) have in common is the sentiment of getting back on your feet, so it’s definitely a very uplifting key signature, and listening to “A Sky full of Stars”, which is a much different song thematically than the others in the list, the uplifting undertones are very present within the song. So there we have it. G♭ major exudes uplifting vibes.
G major - These next few keys are gonna be a lot clearer than the past few have been. This one definitely evokes the feeling of returning home after a long journey, and the way that home is defined, as well as the way it manifests within the song can vary a lot. Take, for example, “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd and “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance. They both have that feeling of coming back home, but differ wildly in how it’s expressed. Also listen to “The Messenger” by Linkin Park and “Sanctuary” by Roselia.
A♭ major - Alright this was one of the clearest of these 24 keys in terms of the feeling evoked by it. Pretty much every single song in this key conveys a sense of longing. Whether it be for love or for better times, that sense of longing is ever present in every single song. If you needed a few examples of this in action, take a listen to “One More Light” by Linkin Park, “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, “American Idiot” by Green Day, or “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay.
A major - Now here’s a key that just screams emotion. Songs in this key can make you an emotional wreck, send you into a tsunami of nostalgia, or both. It definitely depends on the song, but A major is just filled with these kinds of emotions, and they hit especially hard for the songs that mean a lot to you. You’ll feel this in songs like “Heavy” by Linkin Park and “Take On Me” by a-ha. As for songs with a lot of personal meaning, one of my personal favorites in this key is “U&I” by Ho-Kago Tea Time, as well as the stripped down arrangement of it featured in the ending of episode 20 of the “K-On!!” anime’s second season.
B♭ major - This key is known for conveying a sense of familiarity; sort of like visiting a place that was important to you in the past. In that sense it conveys a lot of nostalgia as well. I’ve noticed a lot of popular movie themes are either in this key, or its relative minor key, G minor. That, I believe, has to do with the familiarity conveyed by this key. For themes in B♭ major, take the main themes from Star Wars or Jurassic Park, both composed by the legendary John Williams. As for other forms of music, “Charlie Brown” by Coldplay, “Karma Chameleon” by the Culture Club, and “Battle Symphony” by Linkin Park are great examples of songs in this key.
B major - This one’s kinda hard to pinpoint. If I had to pick a word to describe it, I’d use “introspection”. Why? A lot of songs in this key feel give of the vibe of looking in towards oneself, like “Shadow Of The Day” by Linkin Park, “Yellow” by Coldplay, “Holding on to You” by twenty one pilots, or even “Learn to Fly” by the Foo Fighters. That said, there are some very notable exceptions to this, including “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. But for the most part, you’ll feel a lot of introspectiveness from B major, and perhaps a mountain of emotions as well.
Anyway, in order to keep this from getting too long, I’ll split this into two parts, and I’ll get the minor keys in next time. So before I go, I wanna say that music is subjective, and this kind of thing applies to myself. I’d love to hear y’all’s opinions on music, and how certain songs make you feel. With that, I’ll see you at the double barline!

Happy Curmudgeons introducing brand new single: 2nd Chances
Happy Curmudgeons is a band with a very diverse sound and a vast range of sonic textures in their music. What is really special about their sound is definitely the fact that the group seamlessly combines elements of folk, Americana, country, but even rock and pop. Their musical frontiers are very open, and much like the pioneers of great American music, they always push forward, looking for new ideas and elements to incorporate in their diverse and distinctive sound.
There recently released single, second chances, is actually a fantastic production, and an excellent example of what I am talking about. At first glance, the arrangement might sound simple, in a good way. However, this is a deceptive blend of simplicity, because there are many amazing details to this production, making it stand out among the crowd. For example, the acoustic guitars have a very nice chorus-type effect, which is not usually found in this kind of music very often. I feel like it contributes to the uniqueness of the song, giving this song a special vibe reminiscent of 80s and 90s artists such as R.E.M. or The Replacements, only to mention but a few. There is also room for a cello part, making the intro of the song even more dynamic and cinematic. There is really something special about the timeless combination between acoustic instruments like guitars and drums with the vocal and emotional leads of a cello, adding more depth to the mix.
The vocal melodies come in at about 30 seconds into the song. The singer's voice is bright, sultry, and extremely dynamic, highlighting her incredible vocal range and emotional delivery. In this case, the vocal melody of the song makes me think of a classic track - "Sweet Home Alabama," as made famous by Lynyrd Skynyrd. There is a similarity here, but not a rip off! In this case, the similar melody explores a more understated and intimate sound, focusing on a more introspective approach. With lyrics such as "Driving down this lonely highway," the song actually paints a vivid picture, giving the listeners a sense of connection with the story.
"I Believe in Second Chances, I've got faith in me and you -" With this positive line, the song alternates darkness with light, showing that although life can be like a lonely road, there is always a drive to shoot for the stars, and start again, looking for a chance to start anew. Sometimes, being human means that we do not necessarily make it the first time. We might need to take the fall, get back up again, and look for a second chance to get back on the road, even if we don't know where it goes or what we will find while we get there. Ultimately, as a listener, I'm interpreting this song as a very honest and passionate outlook on what is simply the human condition. It is all about embracing the fact that we can't control the outcome of the situations that we put ourselves into in our lives. Still, we do have the power to stay positive, aim high, as well as having faith - not only in ourselves but in others around you. It is refreshing to hear a song with such a selfless, positive message to inspire and engage people. In a day and age where there is so much shallow music out there, it is terrific to be able to hear something that pulls the right heartstrings, finally!
The music is just as excellent as the lyrics and the concept, with some simple, yet atmospheric acoustic guitars, the aforementioned cello lines, and a crisp drum sound. The snare drum has a very special sound, almost reminding me of one of those vintage marching snares, but you can really hear the bottom sound and the snares creating such a haunting texture.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this song to any fan of artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Wilco, Calexico, R.E.M., or even Big Star, among others.
Once again, Happy Curmudgeons set out to prove that you do not need a complicated arrangement or overly intellectualized lyrics if you want to create a piece of art that is meaningful and easy to relate to. On the contrary, keeping it simple is the way to go if you want to connect with people the right way. Just have a look at artists such as Bob Dylan, the Beatles or even more recent performers like Elliott Smith. Some of their best songs are by far the simplest!
Find out more and listen to "2nd Chances."

Oh no 🥑 must be cold, avos don't like cold 💔
KQ released another statement about disrespectful fans, but it's not enough, they need to start electrocuting them or something. I'm not sure how some fansites work either, I know some get info from the companies (not always legally), so you're gonna wake up early as fuck to take some photos??? Be serious lol it's so weird to me...
Stop this isn't Sweet Home Alabama moment ok 😭 I heard that some people were disappointed with Romantic Killer's ending? The manga isn't terrible, but it was boring to me
I think Tasir being the bad guy wouldn't make sense and be such a cheap plot twist. So fingers crossed he's okay 🤞 The earrings phase started with Howl Pendragon and now we're here...
It's sad to see great teams lose, but also kinda funny ngl 😅 this year is wild, and the fact Italy didn't even qualify like what? Honestly I haven't watched the matches, just saw bits and pieces, but I heard some decisions were controversial. Richarlison is so funny, I can't stan a Spurs player tho, gotta respect myself. Lmao Mbappe, that would be me
SM is either doing something right or terribly. With JYP, Skz are doing ok so clearly their division isn't that bad, but Itzy? Some people argue Twice is losing their momentum as well... Itzy tho, damn they had so many Korean and Japanese releases this year and all of them were pretty mid and kinda similar 💀
Both Jinni amd Yedam trained for a long time, whatever happened with them hopefully they're doing ok
Thankfully my friend didn't meet a lot of racists jahdhshsjagsha she had a boyfriend there, but now she has another one in Straya 👀 so nothing is really there for her in the Maple Land anymore. Zoologist and something else, I always forget because it's so complicated lol.

You know, my relationship with you was by far the most interesting. I remember my first encounter with you, back when Instagram was first getting popular and those “cute Asian shout out” pages were a thing. You were one of the people they shouted out, and i thought you were so gorgeous, and I followed you, you followed back. There was a time I deleted my first IG out of many and completely forgot about you when I made a new one, but one day nearly a year later, I literally got the most random flashback of a picture of you and remembered your username back then “Pawwdang”, luckily you still had the same username and I re-followed you. You did the same. You were an Instagram follower of mine for years before we actually met. Even before I met Richard. You were my secret Instagram crush, but I never attempted to talk to you or even imagine we’d ever cross paths one day due to the fact that you lived in Washington, on active duty. Then once I got in a relationship with Richard, you were there to witness all the outburst I had on Instagram. It’s so embarrassing to think about today. I was a dumb kid. Again, I’ve never spoken a word to you, but for some reason Richard had a bone to pick with you. “Dude, I don’t even know him” I’d say, but that didn’t matter. He made me unfollow you, but I felt bad because you were one of my most loyal followers. I remember messaging you for the first time an explanation on why I all of the sudden unfollowed you and your exact words were “oh, haha that’s okay” you kept following me after that, and not too long after, he and I broke up for good. And I followed you back. And you immediately messaged me about it. I vented out to you about how my relationship came to an end and you actually listened and gave me good advice. I liked you. But as a friend. But you were a bit of a flirt, and back then, I was too broken-hearted to want to deal with another guy any time soon so I kept the conversation to a minimum and left you on read multiple times. So much that you messaged me “I’m sorry I’m boring and don’t know how to keep a conversation going 😅” no honey, it wasn’t you, it’s me. I had no plans on catching feelings for someone who was thousands of miles away. However, when I looked through your pictures, I noticed you were in Houston not too long ago. I asked you about it and you told me you had family living here and came to visit( what are the odds) Then you added that you were gonna move here by the end of 2016 (this was on December 2015) which kind of explains why you were so persistent in talking to me. It all started to add up. After knowing that, I became a tiny bit more interested in you. We started talking more and more and you became someone who I actually liked talking to. I now considered you a friend. 2015 turned into 2016, January turned into March and I found myself getting more and more attached to you. Like fuck, I think I’m starting to like you. You’d call me every night and tell me about your shitty day, and how they left you outside in the snow for hours, and I’d listen, and tell you about mine. Every now and then you’d comment on how cute I look or say something really sweet, and I told you to stop because I might catch feelings. You said , and I quote: “I don’t see why that’s a bad thing” As the days went by, it was more than evident that I felt something for you. I’d get happy when you messaged me, I’d get upset when you didn’t. I couldn’t wait for you to get off work so I could talk to you. And so on. It was all fun and games until YOU started really liking ME. Then you became distant, Because all those memories of you being fucked over by past relationships flooded back to you. So you began to push me away. I knew you were damaged, but I wanted to show you that I wasn’t going to hurt you. I was so mad at you for doing this to me when I told you before to leave me alone. To not make me fall for you if you didn’t have good intentions. Then you wanna back out after I was already in deep shit? It was beyond fucked up, but I didn’t want to give up on you. I persuaded you so many times. And when you finally gave in and accepted your own feelings for me, you began to show me who you really were, a pretty boy with many insecurities. You became possessive, and demanding, and angry. Everything would set you off, what I wore, who I followed, the pictures I liked, you didn’t want me going out, and when I did you’d get pissed. You and I were so different in terms of going out. You were the true definition of an introvert. A gym rat. A homebody. You didn’t like going out, you hardly ever drank, and crowded places made you anxious. While I did like to go out to drink with my girlfriends and JUST my girlfriends. But You had this idea that I was just like your hoe exes. But if that was the case, why would you even want to talk to me? I get we were states away and you felt uneasy but I was whole heartedly yours. That’s what you couldn’t understand. You were my baby, my boo, my bonito. I was sooo in love with you. When we were good, we were soooo good. Talking and laughing for hours on end, but when we were bad, you were always quick to give up. I used to be you before. I used to run away from the ones that loved me, because it was so much easier for me to give up than to keep trying. That’s why my pervious relationship flopped. But I didn’t want to make that mistake with you. I wanted you in my life, because you made me happy without even having to be there. I was crazy about you. You’d leave, and my prideful ass would refuse to message you until missing you became more than I could bear. and it continued. The same pattern over and over. Jealousy for no reason. Stupid fights, ignoring, and I would always be the one going back to you. I loved you, but it started to get old. I started getting tired of being the one to run back to you. And you already know what happened after that. Our relationship went down hill after I met Josh, but he wasn’t the reason we started falling apart. He never was. After you left active duty and we were finally able to see each other, honestly it felt like a dream. You were exactly how I pictured you. You looked even better in person. And I was happy. For a time. We traveled together, I spent New Years with you and your family in Alabama. It was great. I wanted show you Houston, and introduce you to my friends, but every time we went out I kinda just wanted to keep you home because you always had some sort of beef with someone, your temper felt like hot air. It was that Aura you gave off when you were angry, it kind of scared me. It’s funny because I always wanted a man who could beat someone’s ass if they looked at me wrong, but when the universe gave me you, I was overwhelmed. But I liked it, it was a huge turn on because you gave off that vibe, but I knew you were a softie. But only to me. I loved it. It all seemed good for a while. Then the fights started again, in person this time. We fought and broke up, but the only thing different this time was that I didn’t run back to you. And that’s how it stayed. You didn’t try to get me back. And that was it. I am honestly really sad we couldn’t work out, but you were too busy looking for flaws in me while I was overlooking all yours. I really wished things would’ve been different with you. Till this day I still miss you, lately it’s become unbearable. I’ve tired to keep my mind preoccupied by reading, going out with other guys, but nothing works. Im unable to stay interested longer than a day. You’re in my dreams every night. I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t want to try again with you, but knowing you, you probably still hold a grudge against me for walking away or at least judging from the last time we spoke. What you said really hurt btw. If it was just anyone saying that to me, I’d laugh it off. But you were never just anyone to me. Regardless of everything, I loved you. From your thick ass Rock Lee eyebrows(which you somehow managed to fleek), to that hilarious same high pitched giggle you and all your siblings seemed to have, down to your crooked pinky. I loved you. I just wished you opened your eyes.

Most random place I’ve visited in a long while:  Mobile, Alabama.  When I first found out that I got to go I was neutral in my excitement.  And then I started researching; and then I got there; and then I fell in love.  Mobile, Alabama’s theme for the city is “Born to Celebrate” and really, that’s the vibe everywhere and I love it.
Being the birthplace of Mardi Gras in the South and founded by one of the brothers who also founded New Orleans, it’s already in position to be cool.  You don’t hear a lot about Mobile as a destination or a party city, but it is.  It’s not a party city like Las Vegas or the Daytona Beach of the 90s, but it’s a place full of fun and pride.  And it’s delightfully gay which added to how welcome I felt and how much I loved Mobile, Alabama.  Anyways, here’s the scoop on Mobile and why I can’t wait to return with my whole family.
Locale of Mobile, Alabama
Mobile is at the very south of the Great State of Alabama on the Gulf of Mexico.  It’s located where five different rivers meet.  It’s surrounded by lush live oak forests and meandering waterways.  It’s a short drive to the beaches of the Gulf.  It’s a pocket of awesome in a place thought of as the Deep South.
Mobile has its own airport (MOB) and has two major interstates feeding into it.  You can arrive in Mobile, Alabama via cruise ship or private charter.  Basically, what’s stopping you from getting there and having an incredible time?
History of Mobile
It’s in Alabama.  That’s enough to make somebody who hasn’t been think about all they’ve heard, read or seen on TV about Alabama.  Just stop right there:  Mobile is completely different in nearly every way.  Yes, of course there are people who are stuck in the 1860s or the 1950s, but they’re not as common as you’d think.  Here are some interesting tidbits shared with me by Mobilians during my visit (but might not have factual backing):
Mobile was the first city in the south to elect an African-American mayor with a white majority vote.
Mobile was the only major city in the South that didn’t have a civil rights march due to several very active public groups that worked to change local laws, including desegregating schools, prior to government mandate. They’ve had protests, but weren’t at the forefront of marches in the 60s.
Mobile has Gay Pride celebrations with lots of community involvement in addition to being involved in Mardi Gras activities.
It’s the most progressive city I’ve been to south of the Mason-Dixon line.  Love it!
And Mobile, Alabama is an old city; it’s older than New Orleans.  Founded in 1702 Mobile has that same French influence you’ll see in NOLA, but it’s had it for longer.  And here’s a fun fact:  at one point Alabama was actually its own country (for a few days), and if you know where to look you can see references to it throughout Mobile.  And then there’s Mardi Gras… We’ll save that for last.
Top 5 things to do in Mobile, Alabama
Every city you’ll ever visit has a few super awesome things that will keep visitors coming back or talking about for a long time.  Mobile is for sure one of those places, but we’ll keep it short and sweet… like a beignet.
Exploring Mobile’s neighborhoods
Seattle, San Francisco, Portland… all three are great cities made of beautiful and fascinating neighborhoods.  And so is Mobile!!
Downtown Mobile
Downtown Mobile, Alabama is really nice.  The buildings aren’t too tall and there are countless sandwich and coffee shops giving it a quiet, small city feeling.   And downtown is right next to Dauphin Street, which is the main drag and is highly entertaining.  The people of Mobile have been exceptionally active in restoring their city since the 1960s so the whole area west of the financial district is charming, historic and full of fun.  At night, it’s lit up with twinkling lights, neon, marquees, glowing bar lights…. Strolling through downtown Mobile at night is a must.
Oakleigh Garden and DeTonti Square Historic Districts
Being such an old city, Mobile has some incredible residential neighborhoods including seven historic districts.  Just north of the downtown area is the DeTonti Square Historic District.  Some of the homes here are so old and ornate that they’ve each been under renovation for… well, forever.  Walking through the neighborhood you’ll find a combination of Gulf Cottages, Federal style and shotgun houses.  Each of the homes as it’s renovated is held to strict standard for color and outdoor features to keep the district as historically accurate as possible.  A homeowner can pop into the paint store in Mobile, say where they live, and leave with a color palate for the exterior of their house that is historically accurate and perfect.
Tip:  as you’re exploring the neighborhoods of Mobile, Alabama look at the historic markers and coats of arms on the restored houses.  You’ll learn all kinds of fun facts about the city and be able to impress all your friends when you bring them back!
Another beautiful neighborhood to wander through is the Oakleigh Garden Historic District.  Here, in addition to the beautiful and interesting homes, you’ll find some of the most impressive live oaks I’ve seen anywhere in the South.  And wandering the streets below the oaks and past the shotgun houses you’ll eventually get to the Church Street Graveyard.  It’s right by the old library so you can’t miss it.  This beautiful old cemetery has some of the oldest graves in Mobile, Alabama, including that of Joe Cain, the re-founder of Mardi Gras.
Photo tip:  photographing the live oak neighborhoods and cemeteries is best in the LATE afternoon.  The filtered light makes for interesting shots with much softer shadows.
The last neighborhood that I wanted to mention is the Church Street East Historic District.  This is actually where I stayed, at the Malaga Inn, and I loved it.  In the morning I could walk past wrought iron railings and find Mardi Gras beads in the bushes.  At night, there were gas lamps.  A few blocks away was Fort Conde and the Plaza for Mardi Gras events.  The historic charm is there along with bustling activity.  If you’re not staying in this neighborhood, as least pay it a visit.
Eat all of the deliciousness
Where to begin?!  Let’s just say that between blue crab legs and beignet sandwiches I was never hungry or bored with food. Here’s just a taste of what I found and no doubt anybody else could discover even more yum.  Here are three tasty beyond tasty ideas for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Wintzell’s Oyster House – anything with the tiny crab legs or the shrimp in ANY of their sauces and styles.  And their Oysters Monterey were my favorite.
Panini Pete’s – so the beignets are amazing and much more dense and, dare I say it, more delicious than other’s I’ve add throughout the South.  And they’ll make you a bacon and egg sandwich on a beignet!
Noble South – this is where I learned the Southern cooking isn’t all butter and butter.  Even though there were some beautiful meat dishes being served, my vegetarian collection of courses was an unforgettable surprise.  Especially the squash blossoms.  Perfect.
I had all kinds of other great food, but these three hot spots rang the bell for me.  Each was delicious and totally unique to dining I’d find anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.
Gab with EVERY local Mobilian you meet
OMG, you don’t even have to try to do this.  I met so many great people just walking around Mobile.  Some of my favorite characters included I got to talk to were actually the many different servers in the restaurants I ate at.  Ms Pinky at Wintzell’s Oyster House had a new phrase for how delicious each dish was.  The gentleman at the Mardi Gras museum had amazing stories about festivities through the years and strength and presence of the LGBT population of Mobile, Alabama.  One of the four different servers I had when dining alone at a sidewalk cafe didn’t want to talk about Mobile, but about my kids and all the weird things about being a parent.
And then Spring, our breakfast server one day.  She was a delight.  We chatted about food and Mobile and Mardi Gras, and then art.  She’s an artist whose medium is beads.  How perfect for being a Mobilian from the birthplace of Mardi Gras.
Tip:  take a look at Mardi Gras bead art. It has got to be my new favorite medium and motif.  So intricate and takes much more patience than I’ll ever have.
Someday when I’m bored and just want to gab, I’m going to book a plane ticket to Mobile and just go cafe hopping inviting random people to sit with me and drink iced tea.  Or sweet tea.
…and sometimes the locals will dress up with you…
Airboating in the Mobile Delta
We got to take the kids on a airboat ride through the mangroves of the Everglades and it was awesome!  Here is Mobile I had another opportunity to do an airboat ride and it was just as fun but totally different.
We headed just out of town to the Spanish Fort area where we met Captain Geoff.  In addition to being an airboat captain, he’s also a naturalist, so boom, sold. We had three really unique ecotours in Florida and doing the airboat with Captain Geoff was equally thoughtful and educational.  Between the care he showed in his boating and the knowledge he imparted with great intent, Airboat Express is definitely in the top ecotours I’ve been a part of (including some amazing ones in Montana and Alaska).
The highlight of the Mobile Delta airboat tour was definitely the wildlife.  There were all kinds of fascinating birds and really unique vegetation, but this was the first ecotour I’d done that took us past alligator dens and nurseries.  We saw some enormous gators, yes, but getting to see baby alligators swimming or crawling all over each other was a real treat.
Tip:  if you have kids with you for an airboat tour, be sure they have sunglasses.  This helps keep the wind out of their eyes and they’ll have a much more enjoyable experience.
MARDI GRAS EVERYTHING
As I’ve mentioned several times Mobile, Alabama is the birthplace of Mardi Gras.  The city really is born to celebrate like their motto says.  So, for starters, the Mardi Gras museum is pretty darn cool and interesting. And weird.  If you happened into it without any preface you might think you stumbled into the Inauguration Gown gallery at the Smithsonian…but full of drag costumes.  I’ve never seen such lavish regalia.  So much embroidery and beadwork.
And then there are the strands of beads.  Everywhere.  On my first night in Mobile I went for a walk and my eyes kept darting around to find beads in the trees and on lamp posts left over from the recent Mardi Gras celebrations.  I went on a tour driving around the many historic neighborhoods and sights and was given my own strand of Mardi Gras beads. They’re now sparkling somewhere in Mobile, reminding somebody else that there’s another celebration around the corner.
When you spend your time talking with the locals and gabbing it up with your server you’ll see that everything is related to Mardi Gras.
“What have you got going on this weekend?” “Oh, I have a meeting with my mystic society.”
“Oh, when did you do X, Y and Z?” “Well, it was just after Mardi Gras and…”
“Any big plans coming up?”  “I know that there’s a ball I am attending at Thanksgiving… It’s the start of Mardi Gras.”
Seriously, you can’t escape it and that’s just fine.  Seeing how excited and how dedicated each person is to EVERYTHING Mardi Gras is bizarre and inspiring.  It is a complete sense of community. Hopefully we’ll get to experience Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama in the next few years. It’ll be amazing.
So I know Mobile might not have been on your radar before today, but doesn’t it sound fantastic and aren’t you ready to plan a trip? I can’t wait to return with my family and have an awesome time making Mardi Gras memories and more.
Want to pin it for your own travel planning to Mobile or the South in general? Go for it!!!
Mobile, Alabama: top 5 ways to celebrate a surprising gem of a city Most random place I’ve visited in a long while:  Mobile, Alabama.  When I first found out that I got to go I was neutral in my excitement.

30+ Piano Bar Songs You Should Absolutely Request
Seeing the best dueling pianos live is a great night out for any music lover. Most dueling piano songs are in the rock and country music genres. Generally, the performers are operating with the goal of encouraging audience participation, rather than directly battling one another. Here are the best piano bar songs to remember to request the next time you're out on the town.
Even if it's hard to find anyone among your friends who feels comfortable singing in public, nearly 60% of people sing in the shower. Among those who are willing to sing in the shower, even more, will be inspired to sing along when they hear the best piano bar songs being played in a crowd. When you're headed out to see live music at a piano bar, you should have a few requests in mind that you know you and your friends will have fun singing.
Here are 30 of the best songs to request at a dueling piano bar.
1. Elton John - "Your Song"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td9X06tgxcs
Elton John is, along with Billy Joel, an absolute master of crafting great songs on the piano. There are about 10 different Elton John songs that would be perfect for any piano bar crowd, but there are few that can really make people feel something.
"Your Song" has the classic emotional humor that runs along the edges of the most painful pop songs. The entire bar will be belting out "I hope you don't mind" over and over, with a smile on their face, regardless of how conflicted the narrator of the song really is.
One of his songs is also Tiny Dancer(1971), Rocket Man(1972) and Benny and the Jets(1973) which are also related to Bar Songs.
2. Biz Markie - "Just a Friend"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ4B-A3TxlQ
The Biz's classic tune "Just a Friend" is a simple rhyme scheme rapped over a simple melody. This tweaks the balance of emotion and humor from Elton John's songs and makes it a little bit funnier.
Biz Markie is one of the best rappers of all time and this 1989 interpolation of "You Got What I Need" helped to solidify his genius to a mainstream audience. People love to really give it their all for this one. You'll be a piano bar hero for requesting this one.
3. Alicia Keys - "Empire State of Mind"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFqcOgq9bRI
For the bold and brassy belters out in the crowd, the chorus of "in New Yo-o-o-o-o-ork" has become an iconic melody of the 21st century. Whether you live in New York, Florida, or Omaha, the aura of New York lives and breathes in this song.
Whether anyone in the crowd knows the Jay-Z portion of the tune, the bar will be on fire when the chorus hits for the final time. People will be shouting like their life depends on it.
4. Prince - "When Doves Cry"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wwo3IVHjUi4
While there are plenty of other Prince songs with a much more robust piano portion, "When Doves Cry" is still one of his biggest hits of all time. During those later hours when the night starts to turn sultry, Prince is the perfect accompaniment for two partners to sing to one another.
This off-kilter melody will be fun for the piano player as it should mix up the standard bits of show tunes and constant requests for "Sweet Caroline". A little bit of Prince will spice up your night.
5. Grease ST - "You're The One That I Want"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMvaJgxNzfg
Probably one of the most memorable and fun songs from any musical in the 70s, "You're the One That I Want" is iconic. Most people imagine John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John singing it in their classic 1950s costumes.
Grease songs are always upbeat and a great shot of energy into any piano bar. You'll find every member of the crowd tapping their feet and singing along when you request this classic.
6. 4 Non-Blondes - "What's Up?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUUTWGXrif4
While there are some die-hard 4 Non-Blondes fans out there, most people don't know much about their career beyond this one hit they had in the 1990s. It captures the vibe of the Generation X grunge era with a whole lot of attitude. Second only to the attitude is the melody, perfect for belting out after a drink or two.
Since the chorus is "Hey-ay-ay-ay, what's going on?", there's little chance anyone will have trouble singing along. Even haring it once, the infectious melody will stick with you.
7. Journey - "Don't Stop Believing"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HVH3K0EbS0
"Don't Stop Believing" is one of those songs that you either love or hate. It's hard for most people to name any other Journey songs, but that doesn't stop the band from selling out stadiums.
When the first few notes of this song play, watch for the energy in the room to start to boil. People will be on the edges of their seats, excited to sing along.
8. Michael Jackson - "Billie Jean"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-_pv78cwtY
Much like Prince or Elton John, Michael Jackson has plenty of tunes that would be fun to sing along to at a piano bar. Few people would know all the words like they would to Billie Jean.
This strangely dark tale of Michael Jackson being extorted for child support for a chile that wasn't his has one of the best melodies of any MJ song.
People will be doing their favorite Michael Jackson moves in the aisles of the bar and singing their hearts out from start to finish during this song.
9. Roberta Flack - "Killing Me Softly"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaAbjkpYbZM
Whether you're thinking of the Fugees or the Roberta Flack version, this song has been in the cultural lexicon for nearly 50 years now. People from all over the world know this painful and beautiful pop song.
Whether partners will be singing this to one another or solo bar attendees will be singing it to a long-lost love, everyone in the bar is sure to sing along. While the song seems so sad, it's actually one of the loveliest melodies of any great piano ballad.
10. Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C07YDi4WiJ0
It takes a skillful and imaginative pianist to showcase the wonder of Bohemian Rhapsody, a classic rock tune that's about as funky music and inventive as a progressive rock song can get. When talented musicians at piano bars bring this song to life for audiences, people love it and will request it as often as they can get it. Bohemian Rhapsody is included on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
11. Neil Diamond - "Sweet Caroline"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrrHmFXrjPs
If you're a baseball fan, you've probably heard Sweet Caroline enthusiastically sung by fans at games, which will also give you some idea of its strong popularity at piano bars. Whether at baseball games or piano bars, audiences can't resist singing out "dum, dum, dum" in the chorus of this soft rock song. In 2014, Sweet Caroline was digitally downloaded two million times.
12. Garth Brooks - "Friends in Low Places"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU-oADHiETA
Friends in Low Places is a demanding song to sing since its melody requires a two-octave vocal range. Low notes and high notes are no obstacle for fans of piano bars, though, who consistently request the appealing country song in droves for heartfelt sing-alongs. Friends in Low Places won the 1991 Single of the Year award from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
13. Sir Mix-a-Lot - "Baby Got Back"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EsbKh_TFrA
A comical and risqué rap song about female anatomy would seem an unlikely candidate to morph into a favorite at piano bars, but there's simply no denying the popularity of Baby Got Back with audiences. This one's a real crowd-pleaser when performed by a pianist with musical skill and showmanship. Baby Got Back is listed as number seventeen on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs.
14. Bob Seger - "Old Time Rock and Roll"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcI0cqqFIUs
There's no doubt about it; you can't beat Old Time Rock and Roll, whether it's the song or the genre, and Bob Seger's classic rock tune has become one of the most commonly made requests in piano bars. The song lends itself well to showmanship at the piano, and audiences couldn't resist singing along even if they tried. Old Time Rock and Roll are included at number 639 on Rock n Roll America's list of the Top 1000 Classic Rock Songs.
15. Meatloaf - "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31YSJV9oDFM
"Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is a most notable song written by Jim Steinman which was first released in 1977 on the album Bat Out of Hell, with vocals by the American musician Meat Loaf alongside Ellen Foley. The song has its unique structure and length and has become a staple of classic rock radio.
16. Jimmy Buffet - "Margaritaville"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyvzqag2pBc
With its catchy tune and mellow lyrics about a fellow who is seriously indulging in an alcoholic drink, you can't beat Margaritaville as a bar song, especially a piano bar song. It's a country tune that audiences tend to know by heart, and it pops up on numerous lists of songs that people like to request. Margaritaville was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016.
17. Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Sweet Home Alabama"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-r8_yNH5RU
A staple of the Southern rock genre, Sweet Home Alabama has found its way into piano bars across the nation and consistently ranks as a perennial audience favorite. With its infectious chorus, this song is irresistible as a piano bar sing-along, especially when sung at top volume. Ultimate Classic Rock puts Sweet Home Alabama in the number two spot on their Top Ten Southern Rock Songs list.
18. Van Morrison - "Brown Eyed Girl"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVCYqh3PqFk
With its captivating melody, Brown Eyed Girl is a classic rock song you'll want to request on your next trip to a piano bar. Performers who entertain at piano bars regularly cite the song as a favorite with their audiences, largely due to this tune's croonable chorus with its liberal doses of "sha la la tee da." In 2007, Brown Eyed Girl was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
19. The Beatles - "Twist and Shout"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHCAag_hOC4
Made famous by The Beatles, Twist and Shout is a singable and danceable classic rock song that's such a consistent hit with audiences at piano bars that it was included in The Rollicking Piano Bar Songbook. Its rhythm is downright contagious, and the simple, catchy melody will make you want to twist and shout all night. The Beatles' version of Twist and Shout reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964.
20. Three Dog Night - "Joy to the World"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M18LOFV16Ko
Joy to the World is so singable that even Jeremiah the Bullfrog himself might enjoy croaking along with it at a piano bar. With its catchy tune and silly but lovable lyrics, this classic rock hit is guaranteed to make people sing. Joy to the World spent six weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971.
21. Billy Joel - "Piano Man"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAuUHmvLhDM
"Piano Man" is based on Joel's real-life experiences as a lounge musician in Los Angeles from 1972–73, which he had decided to pursue in an effort to escape his contracted New York-based record company at the time, Family Productions, Joel played under the name Bill Martin, which explains why the patrons in the song call him Bill. Martin is his middle name. Following the poor commercial performance of the album Cold Spring Harbor. Joel describes various characters, including a bartender named John and a "real-estate novelist" named Paul, all based on real-life individuals.
22. Def Leppard - "Pour Some Sugar on Me"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBUJGrbzUoA
Piano purists might consider Pour Some Sugar on Me, a heavy metal song associated with squealing electric guitars, decidedly off-kilter as a song for tickling the ivories. "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is a song by the English rock band Def Leppard from their 1987 album Hysteria. Piano bar audiences, as well as the pianists themselves, would clearly disagree since the song is included on numerous lists of best piano bar songs. In Rolling Stone's reader poll of the best hair metal songs of all time, Pour Some Sugar on Me sits proudly at number one.
23. Wilson Pickett - "Mustang Sally"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRYC7eWtGQE
Rhythm and blues is another genre that works well at piano bars, as evidenced by the popularity of Mustang Sally, a well-loved song with a seductive, bluesy hook. The chorus, with its easy musical groove and lyrical repetition, is a great one for gathering around the piano and crooning all night. Mustang Sally made it to number 441 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
24. Bon Jovi - "Livin' on a Prayer"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvHk2V0k_qc

Pianists report that audiences love to sing this iconic hard rock song, and people also love to see how its guitar-driven style will be reproduced on the piano keyboard. Livin' on a Prayer hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986 and is widely regarded as Bon Jovi's signature song.
25. Eric Clapton - "Wonderful Tonight"
