You missed your girlfriend so much.

She was in archery and capture the flag today, but you two barely got enough time to run to each other before she was bombarded by tasks from Chiron.

You saw the way her eyes would soften from afar, giving you a discreet sympathetic look while she went on a rampage on her siblings ready to stab them into kebabs using her spear. But she knew you'd find a way to get to her, she always knew.

and you always do.

It wasn't long before every camper eventually dozed off after a fun sing-a-long around the campfire, singing their hearts out about their godly parent, minus a Demeter Girl complaining about getting a fern for her birthday instead of a car like all her friends.

So here you are, pulling your night robe closer as you impatiently wait for your father to caress Clarisse's siblings to sleep so you can have a moment with her.

But your father was taking way too long.

you have been hiding behind the cabin for hours, Listening to the unpleasant way the swords and spears of the Ares cabin got sharpened and big boisterous faces laughing at eachother. Clarisse was in her bunk, her arms crossed with a seemingly frowning expression. Every laughter made by her siblings made her more and more annoyed.

Every minute that passed made you more agitated until you finally snapped.

You stood behind the cabin and held your hands, focusing on the heartbeats and every breath that they exhaled, The sound around you became indistinct and fuzzy, the time seemed to slow down. A translucent light smoke seemed to snake inside the Cabin before it swirled around Clarisse' siblings, it took a few moments before their eyelids got heavy, their breathing ragged. And sure enough, there was a soft thud where their body fell.

It took you by surprise. It also snapped Clarisse out of her thoughts. Seeing her siblings who were talking lively minutes ago dozing off turned her off, She stood up alarmingly, ready to fend herself to any attacks of intruder.

When she saw you, her tense body softened, the beam on your face was a little unreadable, but she couldn't help but smile.

You ran and threw yourself into her arms, she caught you easily, carrying your weight like nothing.

"I did it, Clar!" You squealed, Clalrisse looked at you, confused.

"Did what, Baby?"

"My father finally blessed me! I get to use my powers, i can't believe this, did you see?!" You were babbling like a baby, words being thrown at her in hyperplaps, but she listened, never letting you go in her arms. She listened and remembered everything.

Like the time you were sobbing in her arms, after multiple failed attempts on praying to your father, it hurt her. She remembered when she used to devote herself to Ares, offering him big chunk of brisket and the freshest strawberries on her plate, just for him to answer her prayer, but it never worked, until finally he had enough of her, and gifted Clarisse a spear to shut her up.

But seeing you happy for finally being able to have powers, she felt something inside her change.

Clarisse tightened her arms around you, placing her nose to your hair, inhailing your scent.

"I'm proud of you" she pulled away and placed her hand against your cheek. She was slowly analyzing the color of your eyes, carefully studying each and every details your face had, then she slowly reached to your lips, the color was a mix of peach and pink, assuming it was from the lipgloss, but it looks so deliciously kissable right now.

Her hands reached the back of your head and before you know it, her lips were against yours, an arm wrapped around your waist while pulling you close.

"I love you, did you know that?" Clarisse whispered on your lips, "i doubt it" You laughed, falling over Clarisse' soft bunk bed as she kissed you once more.

There were soft groans and mumbles coming from Clarisse' siblings, it was already 3:46 am.

"What happened?" Asked Sherman while rubbing his temple.

Clarisse rolled her eyes at her brother, Sherman, glancing at their weapons leaned against their bunk.

"Nothing, i guess you two spent way too long gossiping that your eyes eventually took it themselves and took a rest" she said, Clarisse was trying not to grin at her siblings, knowing well that it was all her girlfriend's doing.

"Huh... what did you do when we're out then?" One of her brothers, Ellis asked.

"The usual, inspection and lights out"

"Really?" Both brothers said in unison.

"Yes, don't look at me like I'm lying, unless you want a spear up your ass" Clarisse snapped, rolling over and hugging her pillow to sleep.

Both brother looked at eachother and quietly snickered, i guess they'll keep hush about that peach and pink lipgloss smudge near clarisse' neck.

And they'll definitely tell the others tomorrow.

Have you played Jamils ceremonial robes vignette? What did you think about him getting seemingly flustered/shy when Kalim praised him?

I think it’s cute! I always love it when Jamil acts all embarrassed. If you want to know my thoughts on a deeper level, I think that it says a lot about Jamil. Obviously we can see that even though he’s desperate for praise, he still gets flustered when he gets it and tends to shy away from attention. This could be a deeply ingrained habit he has from always having to redirect any attention and praise towards Kalim, or it could be a sign that he doesn’t truly want praise and attention as much as we think.

Now, I believe it’s a mix of both. Most of us already understand why this would be an ingrained habit, so I want to instead explore the other possibility now!

Jamil doesn’t really want to be the best or be worshipped, we know that what he truly wants is to be free, to travel the world. What makes Jamil truly happy, what he truly wants, is that, traveling the world and being free. What he thinks he wants is attention and praise and recognition, because that’s what’s always been taken from him.

We know Jamil is very aware of how he’s perceived, and I’m sure he doesn’t like being perceived as weak or dumb or incapable, so letting Kalim always be better at him stings. But Jamil, who is only 17 and increasingly emotionally constipated (like half the twst characters), immediately swung the other way, overcorrecting. I think Jamil in some cases tends to see really black and white, and since he doesn’t like dumbing himself down for Kalim and Kalim getting all the praise that he doesn’t deserve, that must surely mean that what he wants is that exact praise, right?

I’m not saying he doesn’t want praise, we’ve seen how he shines in the VDC and how he loves being appreciated, but my theory is that he doesn’t want it as much as we’re lead to believe due to his overblot acting the way it did. Being praised like that brings attention to yourself, it puts the spotlights on you, and Jamil doesn’t like being out on the spot (he’s more of a planning ahead guy). I think when his overblot demanded praise and worship, it was more for the powertrip and not as much just for the praise, if you get what I mean? Jamil loves controlling things and being in control and tends to be pretty paranoid when he isn’t in control, and having his hypnotized servants praise him and worship him must feel like the ultimate sign of control. Plus, them saying all these nice things is a fun little ego boost I’d imagine.

Also add in the fact that Jamil himself tends to use flattery and stuff quite often when he wants something from other characters (he’s even been called out on it), so Jamil might sometimes be distrustful when people praise him (projecting much)

I think Jamil doesn’t just want praise for praise’s sake, I think Jamil wants also praise as a way to feel control. This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want praise for praise’s sake at all of course, he’s still got quite the ego he needs to feed, and he still likes praise and recognition quite a bit I think, just not as much as you’d think at first glance. Im sorry if I’m not explaining it well, but my thoughts are hard to put into words!

Helium - by Jooseralt / @jooseralt - is another human au fic by my bestie and they deserve a lot more recognition uwu<3 the fic really makes me feel happy and the progress is light enough to not put as much mental strain as "by chance" but still shows hardships enough for you to stick around to see what would happen. also Alice being Uzis aunt and Beu being Uzis lil cousin is something i never thought id love but here we are 😭💕

these two are the only ones id actively reccomend i suppose- most other nuzi fics i read are oneshots and i really dont have much patience for waiting for several fics to update at a time so i stick to only a few.

obviously i have an overwhelming amount of gratitude that clouds all else. the amount of kindness has been insane, and the incredible art that I've gotten has moved me to tears like multiple times haha.

i really have no words! it's also nice, (I said this in one of my notes) because I write professionally but haven't been able to put any of my writing out there so immediately, it's really nice to see that my work can get this kind of response, especially since this was something I was writing without taking it too seriously ?? I've learned so much!

it's hard to speak to the occasional overwhelm - because I'm so humbled by all of this the last thing i'd ever want to do is come off cocky/like I'm complaining - but sometimes it's really hard for me to wrap my head around WHY DLFKSJDh.

I wrote Viktor the way i did for a reason LMAO. It's very hard for me to take compliments and its even harder for me to believe them and internalize them. That's definitely been a big hurdle for me.

i also just don't know how to talk about it and respond to things sometimes. i also feel a bit less like I can just actively participate in fandom space - especially on twitter right now. im very afraid of coming off like I think I'm hot shit for writing a fanfiction based off of a show based off league of fucking legends DKJFSHDFlk.

the good news is is i've been met with such an overwhelming amount of kindness that its really helped me regain some faith in people. i rarely get weirdos

Im glad that I'm seeing some people mention Emerie.

Emerie deserves more recognition. She’s the first Illyrian woman to compete in the Rite, and she owns her own shop. She’s also empowering other Illyrian women to show what they’re capable of. Yet, despite all of this, everyone is so fixated on Gwyn. But what exactly does Gwyn do? All I know is that she sings. Gwyn’s fanbase largely formed because of her ship with Azriel—it’s not about her as an individual. (It's so obvious by the way they romanticize her getting saved by azriel. they dont care about this girl.) In my opinion, Emerie deserves more hype. She’s earned the main character spotlight that Gwyn seems to be getting. Emerie deserves her own book, and it’s frustrating to see her overlooked just because she isn’t involved with one of the Bat Boys. I genuinely believe she has the potential to make a real impact.

Emerie is heavily underrated in the fandom even though she was such an amazing character to read about in acosf. I see more people always empathise Gwyn and Nestas friendship but I liked Nesta and Emeries more.

Ig the sad prt is that after acofas, Emerie was hyped up and a lot of people were excited to meet het and see her role in SF, she was also theorised to be Azriel’s mate and people were giving them their own plot etc, but once it was confirmed She in fact had zero interest in men - her popularity went down and Gwyn - who did interact w Az, went up.

Gwyn was beautifully written in acosf, her strength and sheer determination to become a Valkry was admirable and it makes sense why she has stans however this whole gwynfication of the fandom is due to her being shipped with Azriel and mind you, she has shown 0 interest in him. I don’t think anyone can deny that Gwyn became so so popular because of Gwynriel and people’s dislike of Elain. I agree so much with the statement that, Yes majority of Gwynriels may *like* Gwyn and certain traits of hers HOWEVER most use her as a way to ship Azriel with themselves or a fmc they like more. Its the same w eluciens, they *like* Elain but mainly use her to get a Lucien centric story. They’re fixated on Gwyn because she is a perfect, straight woman who can be shipped with Azriel instead of Elain. Emerie is not, but when she was - Em did have popularity. An anti mentioned how “Gwyn is more “popular” as SF focused on Gwyns story etc” but I disagree. In SF we learn about BOTH Emerie and Gwyn and their backstories, family and current issues. The difference is - Gwyn has some unknown powers and linked w the library. Thats it. Sjm put focus on Mor and even Amren in acomaf/acowar. Neither characters have ever reached Gwyns popularity as long as I’ve been in the fandom. As neither could be shipped w Az.

Emerie does deserve more hype and focus - it makes me so happy when I see content, fanart and theories for her. I definitely do believe she will play a part in the upcoming books and can’t wait for her to shine. Id love one of the novellas to focus on Emerie reaching out to the Illyrian women and making a change within her community- it would be such a good woman empowerment story to tell.

hi! im also a gallagher=hanunue truther but i don't get why... he's also tiernan if we already know how both of them look like? hanunue is just straight up a furry (not really a werewolf since furries do exist in hsr universe) and tiernan is well...a human. plus tiernan was a nameless cowboy and hanunue was an interstellar criminal (well based on the fact that he was in prison) that later on fought against the ipc WITH the nameless. gallagher doesn't say that hanunue was one only that he was fighting along side them and i don't see the point of him lying twice (like... hiding the fact that he is hanunue and hanunue being nameless dhdbdjdbd). hope i don't come out as a mean "well actually" person just wanted to point out the inconsistencies in this theory.

oh and remember the voiceline where gallagher talks about the nameless? it hurts a lot more if he turns out to be hanunue cuz the insane amount of anger he must feel seeing his old friends didn't get the recognition they deserved... shows how much he cares about them...

To clear one thing up first: you're not coming off as a mean "hum actually", Anon!! I'm very happy someone is asking The Questions, so thank you already ♡

Now to explain some stuff...

If you think Hanu is literally a 1:1 physical copy of what Hanunue looked like... you're wrong. Otherwise, it would mean that the Watchmaker was a literal clockman, and we know that's not the case.

Hanu is a metaphorical representation of Hanunue, just like Clockie is for the Watchmaker. Thus, by default, we can consider that Hanunue was a "classic" human, until we are told otherwise. And that has yet to happen. That's also why we can both go "Gallagher is Hanunue", because Gallagher has everything dog and probably Hanunue was also very dog/wolf-like in some of his traits, and that's why he gets a cartoon character who looks like a werewolf/wolfman/dog (the exacts are inconsistent). (Either that or the fact Hanunue was potentially the first head of the Bloodhounds.)

Now, why would Gallagher omit that he's Hanunue or that Hanunue was a Nameless...

Let me ask another question first: Why didn't Firefly tell us she's a Stellaron Hunter?

Don't think about any lore explanation, because the actual answer is much more down-to-earth than anything the lore could say:

Because this is a work of fiction, with a story to tell.

If Firefly had told us she was a Stellaron Hunter, we would have easily come to the conclusion that she was Sam, because Sam was the last Stellaron Hunter on a certain wanted list. (Or that she was Elio. I guess that conclusion could have been made, too... Maybe.)

And that would have ruined the plot-twist that was intended.

So, for the sake of the story being told, Gallagher can't just say he's Hanunue. That would kill the next plot-twist Shaoji might have been trying to set up.

Now the qestion is: Could he have said that Hanunue was a Nameless? And not make the "connecting the dots" too easy for us?

I think the answer is no. The Watchmaker has been implied or at least theorized (in-game) to be a former Nameless. And that got pretty much confirmed with the new lightcone. So, if anyone said that Hanunue was also a Nameless at some point, it would then become very easy to put 3 and 3 together and conclude what I've concluded: Hanunue is Tiernan. Glaux is Razalina. Mikhail is Legwork.

Also, if we say that Hanunue couldn't be a Nameless because he was an IPC prisoner and only "worked" with some Nameless, while admitting Gallagher is Hanunue, then we can't say that "they" are a History Fictionologist either, because Hanunue teamed with those too. (I keep going on and off about that theory, simply because it's Sunday's. Literally. He probably has good arguments towards it. But he doesn't know they're all inside a narrative and his theory could be a red herring for us, the audience looking at the narrative.)

And on the "Hanunue was an IPC prisoner thus an interstellar criminal" thing:

You know... The IPC could put up a wanted poster for your head just because they have decided you are indebted to them. And if you can't pay what they have decided you owe them... *inhales* WELL... Good luck working for them for free, I guess. Ad vitam. Et aeternam. If they say so. (The IPC is the Shinra from FF7 of Star Rail. They are a corporation so big, they have their own military. It doesn't mean they are right and doing "good things" only. And it certainly doesn't mean they are the ones in charge of justice and judging people's actions.)

And last but not least about the potential drama of the situation if Gallagher turns out to be Hanunue turns out to be Tiernan...

It's a work of fiction. It would tell a story. It would show why Gallagher "seems to have a complicated past". It would be the plot-twist to Shaoji's "he's just a normal dude with npc vibes, y'know, nothing important about him, at all, that guy has no story :D".

That is the point.

Life in Inaba could be so boring.

It was always the same routine: wake up, go to school, sit through class, hang out around town and go back home. And Chie hated boring routines.

Sure, it wasn’t all that bad. She liked being with her friends at school, even though she sometimes wished Yosuke would never open his mouth again - still, she couldn’t deny that she enjoyed their company. Unfortunately, she didn’t enjoy it enough for boredom to spare her.

Chie kicked the ground with her shoe. Her hands played with her jacket, stuffed in its pockets as she aimlessly walked around town. She didn’t really know where she was heading - honestly, anywhere would’ve been better than doing nothing. She really hated doing nothing.

She had thought about texting Yu to come hang out, but he unfortunately bailed on her to hang out with another one of his countless friends - seriously, how many friends did he have? - so Chie was stuck on her own.

She walked for what seemed like an eternity; she had probably gone all through the town by now. Every now and then she spotted someone she knew, yet nobody seemed to be free enough to quell her boredom. When she finally stopped, she found herself in front of a building; raising her head, she recognized the Amagi Inn at first glance.

…Well, she had considered calling up Yukiko to hang out. She just wasn’t sure if she was working today and didn’t want to bother.

Chie was left in the entrance as the house worker rushed to get Yukiko. She awkwardly looked around, waiting patiently - as patiently as Chie could. Still, Yukiko came speed walking soon enough, throwing her arms around Chie’s neck in a tackling hug. Chie stumbled from the sudden force and fell on the ground with a yelp, Yukiko still on top of her.

“Wha- Yukiko, you can’t just jump on me like that!”

Her girlfriend laughed.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I was so happy to see you here, I couldn’t stop myself!”

Chie blushed. She couldn’t possibly stay mad when Yukiko said stuff like that, especially with that huge smile on her face. She sighed in defeat, returning the hug until Yukiko decided to get back up.

Yukiko dusted off her clothes before looking back at Chie - her casual clothes, by the way. So she wasn’t working today. She smiled; Chie smiled back, the reaction coming naturally.

“What brings you here today?”

Chie shrugged, her gaze wandering around as she danced on one foot.

“Oh, not much, really… I was bored, and, uh, I guess I just ended up walking here instinctively? What I mean to say is- I wanted to see you.”

She mumbled the last part, feeling her face heat up in embarrassment. Hearing Yukiko giggle only heightened her blush, and she looked away, trying to hide her face from the girl who was currently definitely laughing at “how cute she was”.

“Oh Chie, you’re so cute!”

Knew it.

“Stop it, don’t say that…”

She heard more giggles, before Yukiko approached her and grabbed her arm, effectively pulling her after her.

“Come on, let’s do something together then.”

Yeah, Chie hated the routine that came with living in Inaba. But hanging out with Yukiko could never end up as a routine to her; she always appreciated every moment spent in her company.

MONICA!!!!!! The concert was so good!!!! 😭😭😭 I’m assuming you’re ok with spoilers so here goes 😬

The first half of the show was them playing and recreating the key scenes and singing in them which I thought would trigger me tbh but instead I think it did me good to see the scenes I loved again 🥹 and Jimmy, Mark and Sea were so freaking good they cried in some scenes and I cried seeing them cry and it was so emotional again!!! I really wanna go back and rewatch all the good parts now, it’s still 80% a really good series!!

And they did Blame the Stars together!!! And you saw they did the “can I have my shirt back” scene!!! 😵🫠

(They played the breakup scene but not the reconciliation, it kinda just skipped to “happy ending” and I’m actually glad that we don’t have to rehash all of that)

They did full group songs and unit songs and what got to me was that MarkNamtan and OhmFilm did songs but so did NamtanFilm and MarkOhm!!! The NamtanFilm song was 😙👌

They did a whole Vice Versa medley!!! They did it for me!!! 😄 I was so happy and excited to see it!!! I hope that gets more of the newer fans to go watch it!!!

Jimmy, Mark and Sea had solo moments too, love that for them!!

They were surprised with a fan made video in support of them!! 🥰

Their speeches at the end were emotional and everyone cried, including me 🥹 Sea went second to last and Jimmy went last and he spoke the most 😁

It was just under 4 hours long, it started a little late (as all GMM concerts do tbh) but it was so good and worth only getting 4 hours of sleep 😅 I really hope you get to see it and enjoy it too!!

I fully agree i feel like him being so complete of a player he is able to help in many aspects like he is great in one on ones ,take-on, tackles ,ball carrying and also scoring Its crazy knowing he is just 20 and his potential and yeah he still has a shoulder brace on i think he might get surgery after this season is finished. You deserve so much more recognition for your writing! Off the deep end is such a masterpiece, it’s so new and refreshing to read in the fanfic community. The plot building is insane and the way you’re so descriptive with words makes it easy to imagine the settings. I literally get so immersed into the story whenever I’m reading it, my obsession is eating me alive lol.

Each of the characters are so unique and interesting, I love being able to learn more about them in every chapter, especially with Minho and Jisung! Hyunjin is still a hard one to crack and more closed off compared to the others so it would be really interesting to see how his attitude towards mc will turn out in future chapters, will he remain hostile or be more accepting. The almost relationship between Hyunjin and Felix has me crying because it’s so heartbreaking to read. Sometimes I wonder what goes through Hyunjin’s mind when he sees the evolving relationship between Felix and mc :’(

However, Felix finding that comfort with mc that he never found within Hyunjin has me screaming and him confessing that he’s in love with mc... like FINALLY?! The last few paragraphs of chapter 7 literally gave me goosebumps, I had to put my phone down and take a deep breath before I started tearing up 😭

LOVE the angst so much and how troubled felix is with his own past and emotions because it makes it feel so much more real.  Thank you for continuing to update each chapter despite how busy you are with life. As a reader, I appreciate that a lot!

Thanks for not being negative on my post, it was a 2am rant that i didnt intend to be read by anyone but those who themselves werent too happy w the book, so im glad that you heeded the warning (also, dont ever apologize for ur language skills when its not ur first lang, if someone picks at it they're being an asshole (it seems great, but im an english major who has a lot of Opinions abt the hegemony of english and the assumption that knowing english perfectly is some kind of bare minimum, so it saddens me when i see other non-native english speakers apologize unnecessarily- own the fact you know more than one language and never apologize for how well or badly you know your 2nd, 3rd, whatever; the people who matter will be glad you know at least some of their language and have put in an effort to communicate with them, and entitled assholes dont deserve attention))

That aside, I have a pretty bad case of post-exams woozy brain, so i hope my reply will be coherent, and i hope it doesnt sound rude, i dont mean it that way, im just giving my perspective. I mainly want to explain that while yes, calling someone queer solely for being flamboyant is stereotyping (dandies are, i suppose, the main argument that comes to mind lol, lots of them were straight and a lot of ppl in history acting in ways we would consider flamboyant now werent seen as queer then), a lot of queer culture is using stereotypes and assumptions to be visible- think if u see someone with blue hair and large earrings; yes, they might well be cishet, but i will assume they are one of ours, and ill give them a compliment that they, if they are indeed queer, will read as recognition.

Especially considering a history of queerness needing to be hidden and only being expressed through signals that other queer people will understand- languages like polari in britain, the handkerchiefs you'd put in your back pockets, saying someone does or doesnt speak latin in some english schools. And some signals are more well-known and have been a more visible signal throughout ages- men with higher voices, who were 'vain', who dressed a certain way-, and were used to queer code characters when they weren't allowed to be canonically queer. Think ryan from hsm- hes flamboyant, and he loves theater, and ashton cucher or whatever that guy's name is; yes, these are stereotypical traits of a queer man, but its those traits that helped 'those who know know' see themselves on screen, and they were purposefully implemented by the writers for that sspecific purpose.

My point is, yes, howl is flamboyant, and yes, flamboyancy is a part of why i read him as queer. He's the definition of a poor little meow meow, he has a college degree, he loves his earring and his hair and his suits and spends exorbitant amounts of money to make things beautiful. He also has ADHD, and the link between neurodivergency and queerness is another thing added to the list (and you could say much the same thing for him being nd- am i allowed to say he's nd bcs his house is a mess and he knows exactly where he put what and if u move it he wont be able to find it? and bcs hes an overthinker and anxious and has to lie to himself in order to get things done? none of these things mean he's nd, but i see my experiences and the experiences of my nd friends in him, and i hence identify him as such bcs he as a character cannot be consulted on his opinions- he exists not as a person, but a mix of traits that can be interpreted in dif ways) . He doesn't want to be a part of the mainstream, he doesnt want to do things other expect him to do. I see part of queer culture in him, and i compile them all unconsciously and read him as queer- a flamboyant university graduate with no real wish in life but to be free of capitalism and pursue his dreams? i'm going to filter that thru my experiences and knowledge, and im going to read him as queer.

I had certain expectations of the narrative, and I didnt get them from it, and i'm so jaded to the stories that end in marriage as the happy ending and have aspects of the kind of romance depicted in the book that i honestly dont believe that ill read it again, or that id have a dif experience if i did. I did come into it expecting a dif thing to the movie, and it wasn't the lack of kisses that discouraged me from getting engaged with their relationship, or that it was different and more real (as i said, they had teeth in the book, which id hoped coming into it since char flaws are what adds depth to a story and more interestingly moves it forward), it was the fact that a relationship made of arguing and snippets of attraction and peace ending in marriage and procreation has never appealed to me either irl or in stories, and tho not exclusive to cishet relationships, it is something that's seen as worth striving towards in some parts of that culture.

It was admittedly my fault that I hadn't checked the date of the book before id read it, and that i expected something of that book that it simply wasnt meant to be, pulled by the queer atmosphere of the movie (i cant fully describe to u how much that movie means to queer people in my circles, and how much we relate to it and see ourselves in it, either bcs howl is gender envy incarnate and has bisexuality vibes thru the roof (i have a bi trans friend who is, essentially, howl), or bcs the vague magical atmosphere of it is inviting).

With that all said, i want to add a disclaimer that ure free to read the book as u like, and to see the characters as you like. The beauty of stories is that we all experience them differently, and i'm not going to knock your interpretation of it any more than i will my own; i will, however, contest the idea that reading a character as queer bcs they embody certain stereotypes of queerness is incorrect and somehow harmful or shallow.

I have and will go on to read a number of books written in times and places where queer rep wasn't and isn't allowed, or is/was stigmatized enough to be avoided outright, and reading those kinds of books with the fear of seeing a character as queer bcs they embody queer stereotypes but havent outright said it is a disservice both to myself and the author's potential intentions.

It's important to remember that chars arent real, living people, and that labeling them as queer or not queer based on what they do and dont do does them no harm like it would to a real, living person (think what happened with kit connor, for example, or what happens to cishet ppl who cant wear what they like bcs someone might keep questioning their identity and not believe their words bcs of it).

Just finished hmc (book) and i have so many conflicting thoughts about it. Like it was obviously very well written in terms of the worldbuilding and the characters and the plot but then with the romance it felt,,, so odd to me.

Maybe it's the fact that it's decades old, but it has that feeling of vagueness that classics and stuff often do, where I don't feel at all invested because it all feels surface level. Like Sophie and Howl clearly have a connection, but I felt like it was never explored in a way that tugged at my heart strings, it was more like they had the grounds for friendship and then bippity boppity they held hands and were getting married.

Which gets me to another thing- this felt very much like someone had taken a very interesting queer character and put them in a very heteronormative romance plot??? Like howl has such major queer vibes, but then he interacts with sophie and vice versa like they're the protags of every heteronormative straight romance book (if there weren't even making out to keep your attention on SOMETHING), and it just feels like they were done dirty even tho they are as the author intended them to be and saw them as.

Idk just... They're such interesting characters and I would have loved to see their love story if it weren't trapped in a heteronormative cage.

The rest of the story is just so incredibly fun and engaging that whenever this stuff popped up and they were forced to play into these roles it felt jarring and left me at the end wondering if I'd just ruined the experience I knew from the ghibli movie and wasted hours just to end up feeling neutral about the story.

You drag yourself out of bed and lazily put on a hoodie, not even bothering to change out of your pajamas. Scott had convinced you to wake up at lunch time so you could eat with your friends, which would usually get a solid "Fuck no."...but there was a promise of chocolate chip cookies. So fucking up your sleep schedule it was!

Walking down the stairs, you catch a few staring eyes and shoot a glare at them. They immediately scramble away  much to your happiness.

You easily spot your friends under a tree and walk over to them, enjoying the afternoon you rarely get to see. Scott spots you and cheers "Sup Snow White!". You roll your eyes playfully "Oh hardy har har Summers." you sarcastically snark as you plop yourself down beside Kurt.

Everyone launches back into conversation, and you find yourself calmly smiling at the mess of a group you call family friends. Then, the fire nation attacked.

"Hey, freak! Did you force them to sit with you? Or do they just feel bad?" Your attention is turned to some random teen you've seen in passing- he was mocking your wings. Not a pleasant guy. Jean just rolls her eyes at him, while Kurt sits looking uncomfortable. Jubilee and Scott are glaring at him, and you're- well...

"Oi! Who the fuck do you think you're talking to?" you holler at him. This garners the attention of some nearby students who are now whispering to each other. The teen scoffs and rolls his eyes, "Oh, is this your little guard dog? How cute!" he mockingly coos. Your mind is racing a mile a minute but you keep yourself under control, and calmly walk over to him. The students are gathering closer now, curious to what's going to happen next.

The teen sizes you up and gets in your face, "You mad, doggy? What're gonna do about it? Bark?" You smile sweetly at him, and then swing you're tail underneath his legs. He immediately falls backwards but you catch to collar of his shirt and bring him close, "If you ever, and I mean ever" you bringing him closer "come near my friends again, I won't be here to catch you. Got it?" He nods vigorously. You smile sweetly and let him stumble backwards. "There's a good doggy." you mock as you turn back to your friends.

Sadly, the universe was not on your side, as Professor McCoy calls for you and the teen to follow him to the headmasters office.

School sucks, you think as you walk to the office. One moment you're defending your friend against some dickwad and the next you're being escorted to the headmasters office, which is complete bullshit! Sure Jean could handle herself on her own, but she shouldn't have to! Everyone deserves a friend who has their back. And maybe a little bit of your reaction was because you were sick of being treated like an animal, but who could blame you?

Before you realize, Professor McCoy is knocking on the Professors door- you wonder if they had to battle for who got the title of "The Professor"- and he opens it, closing it after the three of you are inside. Professor Xavier looks up blindly before a flash of recognition sparks in his eyes, so he sits up straighter and looks more serious. Glancing beside you, it looks like the teen (who's name you learn to be Doug) is playing the innocent lamb while you get the part of the Big Bad Wolf. Lovely.

"Can anyone care to tell me why you're here?" the Professor asks, looking between you two. Doug responds scarily quickly "Yeah, that asshole attacked me for no fucking reason!" Your eyebrows raise a bit- he couldn't have tried made his story a bit believable? The Professor sharply turns to him "Mr. Carol, I do not appreciate that tome of voice." Doug squirms a bit where he stands as the Professor continues "Now please, could you elaborate?"

Doug starts to tell a story how he was leaning against a tree reading a book, when you walked up to him and got up in his face and pushed him to the ground. Which is complete bullshit, but you wouldn't let that show. The Professor takes this in and the  turns to you, and tells you to recount your side of the story. You glance at Doug and start "Well, I was sitting with my friends, when Doug walked by and called Jean a freak. I got mad at him and shouted at him, so he called me a dog multiple time, so I told him to leave me and my friends alone and went to sit back down- that was when Professor McCoy interfered.

Doug glares at me while the Professor frowns. He exchanged glances with the other professor who come to some sort of silent agreement. "It seems clear who is in the right. You practically sprint out to your friends, who are still waiting for you to come back. Jubilee grins at you and hugs you tightly "That was freaking awesome!" you blush and meekly smile at her. Everyone starts asking if you're ok, but through all the chaos you catch Jeans eye and give her a smile that she returns.

Yeah, you probably shouldn't have done that, and yeah you're fucking exhausted, but it's worth it to see the smile on their faces.
