A lot of local cities have focused their efforts on regulating short-term rentals like Airbnb’s, but this is the first regulation that calls out co-living by name. A large home on Hallet Street has been getting the stink eye from neighbors for months. They remember when it went into foreclosure as a 4-bedroom, 3-bath home. Then they started seeing workers. They said the workers told them they were reconfiguring it to 7 bedrooms, which led them to start asking more questions. The company behind the project is HomeRoom, founded in 2018 by a Prairie Village man, which has expanded to include six metro areas across the nation.
Tracy Thomas, a former member of the Shawnee City Council, was one of the residents concerned about the housing trend moving into Shawnee. She and others were concerned it could lead to a dramatic influx in renters, more people parking on the street, and shifts in home values. “Co-living sounds wonderful at first, but you have this juxtaposition of people who care about their homes and people who don’t,” Thomas said.
But when Shawnee approved the ban last year, officials said they were trying to eliminate situations where homeowners were treating their homes like apartment buildings and renting rooms to several people.
There was a federal lawsuit, but it was ultimately thrown out.
In the end, it just feels like it's another "we can't have the poors in our town >:(" which I see a lot of around here. I mean, Lenexa just denied using an abandoned hotel for a homeless shelter in the last couple of days. The comments I saw when the idea was first put forth were straight vitriol. It's one of the few things I agreed with my dad on - these people just hate anyone who is "lesser" and doesn't have the money to live.
Like, why the fuck is it better to let buildings sit empty when someone can actually make a use for it? But noooo, my tax dollars can't be used for other people! Why would I want to have any compassion for others? Gotta make sure it goes towards moving the Chiefs to this side of the state line instead.

[ content warning: discussion of in-canon sexual abuse ] Maybe it’s just because I’m not too active in the ALNST fandom and mostly observe from afar, but I think this fandom brushed aside way too quickly the fact that Till was sexually assaulted. I have never seen anyone talk in depth about like, what that actually means in terms of his arc and the storytelling of his character. Which I find deeply, deeply upsetting because holy fucking shit.
Tumblr media
This man right here has been told, basically his entire life, that not only is he himself not worthy of being treated as a human, but that his body is not his body, but a piece of property that can be owned. And whoever owns his property can use it for whatever, and however they wish. Now, dehumanization is nothing new or unique in this world, obviously. The very concept of Pet Humans is dehumanizing by nature, leaving all six of our main characters as victims to it, even those who are more well-off like Mizi. But Till is a specially fucked up case almost distinctly unlike the rest, because he is actually treated like a fucking dog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(x) Ivan: If you keep rebelling like that, they won’t ever remove your collar you know? Till: This annoying bastard… — Ivan: I told you so, didn’t I? You didn’t listen? Till: This annoying bastard... (translation courtesy of @leiikos on youtube)
Tumblr media
(x)
Tumblr media
An unruly animal who needs to be leashed up and put in it’s place. Animals, as is common knowledge, are not on the same level as a human being. But they are ordained to follow the commands of those above them. And if someone (thing) isn’t doing as it is told…
Tumblr media
It deserves to be taught better. But I’m getting ahead of myself. This is the mindset that has followed Till his entire life by the ones who were supposed to take care of him. He is not human, even less human than the existing inhuman. He is a pet, even more so than the other pets, an animal. A thing. Property. Something to own. And the best thing about owning something?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You gain the ability to do whatever you want to it. Till’s body was not his from the start. It was used as something to toy around with, experiment with, to train and train and train, presumably for his whole life. His body, his skin, his flesh and bone and blood, it was all nothing more than a plaything. So what if he screams? Just ignore it. Or don’t. If this competition has taught us anything, voices have the most value of all. On top of it being reinforced that Till is not deserving of humanity, he is also not deserving of his bodily autonomy. People are free to do whatever they want with his body because it’s not his body, it’s theirs. And that brings us, finally, to the scene itself
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He can’t sing her song, he refuses to. This isn’t the first time he’s refused to do something, far from it actually. What was once an innocent puppy with dilated hope in his eyes has grown into an angry, disobedient mutt. And we know what happens to an animal that refuses to do what they’re told. But there’s something interesting about dogs, or rather about the ones they descended from, the wolf: When the circumstances call for it, they will bite the hand that’s supposed to feed them.
Tumblr media
And here is where I intrude to remind you that this is the only time we see anyone physically fighting back against the aliens in the confines of Alien Stage. We see Hyuna and Mizi fucking up aliens in All In, but that was after they had escaped from the cage. And you could make a case for Mizi trying to escape the grasp of the guards that grabbed her in Ruler of My Heart, but from what we saw she didn’t actually lay a hand on them and more so just tried to force herself out of their grasp. though if you disagree with me on that that's fine Here though? Till has this bitch’s face grabbed into his palm with a bottle in hand ready to smash it directly in between it’s eyes. I consider this to be the first act of physical violence shown against the aliens within the uncomfortably tight enclosure. And it’s triggered not because of anything personally done to Till, which on its own could probably fill a list that reaches the ground. But because of the prospect of Mizi being dead. Till knows that this place is shit, that his life is shit. Said so directly on his profile.
Tumblr media
Dislikes: Everyone, including Guardian Urak (translation courtesy of @kh47uo on twitter)
But he stays regardless because Mizi is there. If Mizi is dead, Till has absolutely nothing to lose…Right?
I can almost imagine him thinking: There’s nothing you can put me through that’s worse than every other way you’ve hurt me. …But there was. Oh there was.
A final, disgusting message to the pet to put him back in his place. Back on his leash. Making sure he will never forget where he stands for the rest of his days.
Tumblr media
And that is really what the sexual assault of Till represents to me. It is a cruel reminder to Till that fighting back is impossible, having hope, being free, it might as well be a fool's fantasy. He will always be less-than-human, less than anything. His body will always be the property of the ones that were supposed to protect him, claimed, and then used used used until it’s worn out and dead.
And the aliens chose to exemplify that fact in the most direct way they possibly could.
So what if he screams? Just ignore it. Or don’t. If this competition has taught us anything, screams have the most value of all

So I shared, the Spanish-language horror visual references in this week’s Peaceful Property episode (which are great ghost story films for comparison in thematic elements, as well). The death this week, though, is yet another ghost story reference, this time in an English-language series with lots of commentary on class and the racial and gender politics of domestic work, The Haunting of Bly Manor.
🚨spoilers for both series from here on🚨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Bly Manor, Hannah Grose, the estate’s maid is revealed late in the series to be a ghost, who had fallen into a well on the grounds. Although the series is based off Henry James’s Turn of the Screw and its celebrated film adaptation The Innocents from the 1960s and its celebrated 2000s remake The Others* with Nicole Kidman (in which the twist from the previous is that the governess main character is revealed to be dead), Hannah Grose’s death is a new addition in the Netflix series. It compounds the complex themes about class and domestic servitude in the original British story and adds issues of race to the proceedings.
Peaceful Property uses Baanchuen’s story for similar purposes. Migrant domestic work is an important issue in Southeast Asia. The International Labor Organization put out a report last year stating, “29 per cent of surveyed migrant domestic workers in Malaysia were in conditions meeting the ILO’s statistical definition of forced labour; as were 7 per cent of surveyed workers in Singapore and 4 per cent in Thailand. Indicators of involuntariness include not being able to quit your job, having to stay in the job longer than agreed, and being made to work without overtime pay, among others.” Shackles, like those on Baanchuen’s ghost, are an easily recognizable symbol of enslavement, indicating the extent of Aunt Phom’s cruelty.
But even under legal circumstances, domestic workers are one of the least protected group of laborers in Thailand and abroad. Taiwanese-American labor organizer, MacArthur “genius” grant recipient, and mentor/friend to BLM cofounder Alicia Garza, Ai-Jen Poo has a fantastic interview on On Being, in which she discusses the racialized, gendered, international, and cross-class dynamics that define domestic care work, which impacts the strategies to organizing for workers rights in the field.
“The average annual income for a home care worker [presumably in the US at the time of recording in 2020] is $15,000 per year. And I can’t think of any community that I’ve ever lived in where you can survive on $15,000 a year. It’s really quite extraordinary. And they’re there and see employers come home with a pair of shoes that are maybe more than they make in a week, and yet, their job is to care and support and love, and they do so. You can’t actually do your job as a caregiver if you dehumanize the person that is in your charge. And I think that that is so much of what’s needed in this moment. All of us need to understand that we have a profound set of challenges and inequities that we have to deal with and transform, but we have to do it with a boundless sense of compassion and humanity.”
I’d encourage some of my fellow watchers of Peaceful Property to heed Poo’s perspective on disrupting class distinctions and what the advocacy for equitable practices has looked like in her work. I’m a caseworker myself and have worked alongside people who had less privilege than me for caring wealthy people who never the less didn’t always recognize the value of those whose work they depended on and didn’t have the labor laws that might provide that guidance. There are a few pieces of work that explore this meaningfully (better than The Help, although Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer absolutely carved out depths in their characters stories that weren’t there on the page). Glad to see Peaceful Property making its attempt to explore these depths. It actually made me reflect on how many of the jobs after the first episode really focused on gendered aspects of labor—a wig-maker, assistants, food-making…
And for my Homepeach truthers out there, that gender conversation is not just about labor. Bly Manor is also notable for its queer romance storyline with a wealthier character running from her internalized homophobia/guilt after a car accident…
*Incidentally, The Others is also heavily influenced by the same Spanish film, The Spirit of the Beehive, as both referenced Spanish-language horror films in these weeks episode.

AWAWA. WAIT- TELL ME MORE ABOUT RAVEN <- Weak for women with those sharp eyes that make you wanna kneel 🧎‍♀️
(Seen her for a while in your blog but never asked cuz I forgor 😭 SHE LOOKS SO COOL AND BEAUTIFUL TOO)
AAAAA MOTH MY DEAREST I WILL TELL YOU WHATEVER I CAN ABOUT HER
She's my first DoL serious PC! But her name actually originates from my time playing/reading interactive fictions, using Raven as my self insert most of the time with black hair and golden eyes
In my DoL lore, Raven isn't really human (not even sure if she's mortal) anymore. After the Hookah Parlor events, something happened within her. She isn't the same as when she started her journey anymore.
After discovering most things, she decided that she couldn't do everything herself, wanting to pass time with her husband and settle down. Thus, created a star, a sun and a black hole (Astra, Elios and Vide), the twins going out of their way to explore the divine transformations and the LI she wasn't interested in at all, while Vide went to explore places like the UG Farm and the Asylum, thirsting over other LI Raven didn't care to try
Out of her four children, her adopted one is her favourite as fellow orphans
She has a nice relationship with the tentacles and has a neutral-positive relationship with Ivory Wrath
She still has a Whitney's Property tattoo, on her lower back, but won't go out of her way to make Whitney happy or meet him at all. She found her peace, after all
After the DoL experience, Raven became my favourite fandom oc, so I extracted her from it and put her next to my other favourite red child, Nar
I'm planning a DnD campaign where she will be a villain together with Hydra (aka my persona) and Nar
She's a hermaphrodite, she is hiding a nice surprise under the skirt
She is attracted to all genders equally, and is very much a hedonist and seeker of pleasure, but after the Parlor events, became more numb to genuine love feelings, almost apathetic
This made her cling to GH, who has shown to her only respect and genuine love since she accepted his courting. That love is all hers, no need to share it or be afraid of others forcing you to share your love and body. Just her, him, their children and the Tower.
She's on the more dominating side of the SD spectrum
She doesn't usually hide her TF, she is very comfortable in her new skin. She cannot for the life of her mantain a divine TF though, became a demon for just a day and then lost it immediately.
She breaks the fourth wall, self-aware and knows how to go through dimensions. She's basically the Creator's Will, aka my will. She's on CoT too, doing the same thing she did on DoL, aka going for the bully at first and then see where the story brings her.
On CoT, she studies Psychology. But because of my own mistake, there, she is an afab nb person.
She likes chocolate milkshake more than vanilla or strawberry.
She values her friendship with Zephyr and Winter, while she holds immense affection for Darryl
In my DoL Actor Au she is the director, with her creations being her assistants/part of the crew
Nothing else comes to my mind right now, but if you have any questions you know you can ask me without
(gonna @/ you cuz I'm still learning the tumblr way and I'm not sure how it works @mothinabottle )

▸ is your muse tall / short / average? : the fifth doctor is six - foot, so he's fairly tall. ▸ are they okay with their height? : the doctor tends to be an average height when he regenerates ( aside from two, who honestly isn't even as short as he seems. troughton was five - eight lol & for reference i am five - four ) ; four was six - three, so five is pretty used to being up there. it annoys tegan when she has to look up to address him, though, so he's been conditioned to lean down or have a seat when speaking to those shorter to him . . . maybe tegan just likes to assert dominance? that, & feeling tall. she likes to feel tall. ▸ what's their hair like? : wheat blonde, blinding in direct sunlight. soft & luscious, he often flips it out of his face. ▸ do they spend a lot of time on their hair / grooming? : considering he makes his own shampoos & soaps in an effort to be as eco - friendly as possible, he inadvertently does. ▸ does your muse care about their appearance / what others think? : of course. cleanliness is next to godliness. if you feel good & look good, the day is already off to a good start yes?
Tumblr media
✩ — 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒.
Tumblr media
▸ indoors or outdoors? : outdoors. that's where the flora & fauna are, it inspires poetry, fresh air is good for the mind & body, & more importantly, it's how the TARDIS compendium expands its data on the lifeforms and locations found throughout the universe. he may not be the TARDIS's favorite iteration of the doctor ( putting it lightly ) , but it's quite likely his love of the outdoors & documenting things in his journals to be later entered into her databanks ranks him the largest contributor to the encyclopedic layout of knowledge that later regenerations have access to. thanks, fivey! ▸ rain or sunshine? : both have their benefits. sunlight helps things grow & supplies energy to many different civilizations ( yes, solar power was in use by other planets & civilizations long before humanity discovered it ) , while rain means that plants don't have to be manually watered, & the doctor can work moderately undisturbed because everyone else on board is asleep. the TARDIS garden has its own internalized ecosystem & weather cycling for the benefit of the plants. & there's nothing quite like walking in a downpour to gather one's thoughts. . . . just be sure to change into dry clothes once the rain stops. ▸ forest or beach? : forest. the doctor hates the beach. sand gets in his shoes & slows him down, & playing in saltwater just isn't his steez. ▸ precious metals or gems? : metals are neat, & have many other properties aside from looking appealing. they can be utilized in repairs for various components found in the TARDIS, & are quite easy to work with. ▸ flowers or perfumes? : flowers, easily. when untampered with in nature, most have a subtle scent that is just right. the fifth doctor has an acute sense of smell, & there's nothing quite like an overwhelming perfume to give him an unbearable headache. why faff about with something that's already perfect as is? ▸ personality or appearance? : given that he isn't ever actually looking for romantic companionship ( or otherwise ) , as long as you've got a good personality & can follow instructions, you're welcome aboard the TARDIS!
Tumblr media
✩ — 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒. ( cont'd. )
Tumblr media
▸ being alone or being in a crowd? : this seems like an easy answer, but it's hard to say. he isn't as well - socialized as he would like ( despite being much more so than his prior selves ) , & playing cricket like a regular person on a sunday is quite fun for him! despite the frequency with which he is kidnapped, being out & about is usually a good experience & he can still see the best in people! that being said, there is a time & place for everything. he values his time alone while valuing his time with others, as well. he would never actively turn down someone's request to spend time together because he'd ' rather be alone ' . there really isn't a social battery to recharge or anything, either. ▸ order or anarchy? : he will have order. ▸ painful truths or white lies? : despite being one of the more honest iterations, he is still the doctor. a fugitive from gallifrey whose existence in the lives of others is built on misdirection & deceit, even if it's prettied up & packaged nicely. but the fifth doctor isn't the type to blatantly lie, preferring to just . . . omit. much easier to just avoid addressing things fully. ▸ science or magic? : science. witches almost ate him alive, once ( no, i'm not kidding ) . he doesn't hold a grudge against practitioners, it's quite interesting stuff, really! but science is something he understands, & magic is not. ▸ peace or conflict? : major peacekeeper. the desire for maintaining it leads to him being a bit of a pushover, with nobody who breaks terms of service facing any real consequences. it's literally why his companions tend to walk all over him & people don't tend to take him seriously. ▸ night or day? : well it's always night or day somewhere, isn't it? you truly have no concept of such things when space is your home. ▸ dusk or dawn? : dawn. it may be a bit trite, but nothing inspires poetry & rouses the spirit like sweet birdsong. ▸ warmth or cold? : no preference whatsoever, usually. time lords maintain an average body temperate of around fifty degrees fahrenheit. as long as nothing is too extreme in either direction, he is fine. but if he had to choose, he wouldn't want to be in the direct sunlight for hours & hours on end, of course. ▸ many acquaintances or a few close friends? : . . . the life of a time lord on the run means nothing but many acquaintances. he never stays in one place for a long period of time, how could anyone get to really know him? he always encourages others to forge lasting friendships with others however, & to never take them for granted. ▸ reading or playing a game? : reading. adric suggested game night in the TARDIS once upon a time, & it was a disaster.
Tumblr media
✩ — 𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐄.
Tumblr media
▸ what are some of your muse's bad habits? : quick to trust, although is conditioned to be warier later in life. is known to be somewhat moody, & can get snappy at times. can talk for extended periods of time about nothing, just to keep a conversation going, even when the other person may just want some silence. gets kidnapped A LOT, although this isn't really something he can help. ▸ has your muse lost anyone close to them? how has it affected them? : many times. however in this lifetime, adric is his biggest regret. the guilt over what happened never left him. not a day goes by where he doesn't think about him, & what he could have done different. could he have bent the laws of time a bit to save him? SHOULD he have? adric was the last person on his mind before he regenerated. ▸ what are some fond memories your muse has? : with this face? . . . teaching adric how to fly the TARDIS ( and almost dying along with everyone else, adric was NOT A GOOD PILOT ) , preparing a candlelit dinner for tegan & nyssa, having a weekly book club with turlough ( the ginger did NOT want to be there. ) , being in the TARDIS garden with peri, sitting together & talking for hours on end about anything & everything while looking at the flowers . . . comes to mind. ▸ is it easy for your muse to kill? : when the situation calls for it & there is great evil at hand— when it's between the imminent threat or his companions & the lives of the innocent . . . how could he not? remember, he's great with a gun. ▸ what's it like when your muse breaks down? : he doesn't. no time for that! too many people depend on him, he's careful to never idle, & the fifth doctor is quite good at processing & dealing with his emotions in private ( so he thinks ) . his outlets include gardening, researching flora & fauna on foreign planets to fill the TARDIS databank, playing cricket & composing poetry. he doesn't cry, either, but if he's close enough with someone, having a conversation about the things that trouble him can be quite therapeutic. ▸ is your muse capable of trusting someone with their life? : . . . yes. ( delay intended. ) ▸ what's your muse like when they're in love? : when the fifth doctor does fall in love, the person he loves is likely already his best friend, as well. he's not as guarded when it comes to love as some of his other regenerations, & if it happens, he'll accept it pretty easily. not much will change, honestly, & he'll be fine not ever confessing. if a romantic relationship happens, he'll give them poems he's written for them & rare / hard to cultivate pressed flowers, take them around the universe to show them the places he thinks are the most beautiful & amazing, hold hands, learn how to go on dates ( does he looks like He Knows ) , partake in their hobbies alongside them & spend as much time with them as possible.

Introduction
Once, the study of ‘primitive money’ – shell currencies, feather currencies, wampum, Fijian whale teeth, Tiv iron bars, and so forth – was the stock and trade of economic anthropology. In recent decades there’s been almost nothing written on the subject. James Carrier’s otherwise comprehensive Handbook of economic anthropology (2010) not only considers the matter not worth a chapter, it contains not a single mention of wampum, or trade beads, anywhere in the book. We don’t even know what to call such items any more. ‘Primitive currencies’ or ‘primitive valuables’ will obviously no longer do; French economists who propose to re-label them ‘paleo-moneys’ (Servet 1981, 1982) or even ‘savage money’ (Rospabe´ 1995) are hardly better. Akin and Robbins’ (1999) decision, when dealing with traditional money-forms in Melanesia, to use the term ‘local currencies’ (as opposed to state ones), while at least not obviously offensive, seems an obvious a place-holder, something to use until a better term comes up.
One reason it’s hard to come up with better terminology is that there’s no consensus on what, if anything, actually makes a string of Indian Ocean trade beads, or California woodpecker scalps, different from a shekel or a pound. Is it something in the nature of the object? Or is it a matter of the kind of transactions in which it is used? Or is it the conceptual apparatus, the cosmological assumptions, the notions of value, surrounding it? Or, alternately, are we just looking at a meaningless default category, where the term ‘primitive currencies’ is applied to any widely circulating valuable that is not used primarily for commercial purposes?
I would like to propose a solution. The key distinction here is between currencies that are used primarily to further the exchange of material goods, and those primarily used to transform social relationships. The first can be referred to as commercial currencies, because even though they may be used for social purposes, their primary purpose is seen to lie in buying, selling, renting or otherwise disposing of alienable property. The second should best be referred to as ‘social currencies’. They may also be used to buy and sell material goods (often they are, but not always), but their primary purpose is seen to lie in arranging marriages, resolving conflicts, consoling mourners, making treaties, assembling followers for military expeditions or competitive feasts, making gifts or rewarding services. For this reason, I also propose to call those economic systems in which social currencies predominate ‘human economies’. I must emphasise (much though I really shouldn’t have to) that this is not because they are necessarily more humane, in the sense of less brutal, more caring, than impersonal market economies. Some certainly are; others are extraordinarily brutal and destructive. What distinguishes human economies is merely that they recognise that the chief business of any social system – or, indeed, of any system of the production and distribution of material goods – is the creation and mutual fashioning of human beings. Indeed, one could well argue that it’s only the emergence of commercial currencies that made it possible to imagine an ‘economy’ in the sense we are used to using it today at all – that is, an autonomous domain of human activity primarily concerned with creating and allocating material possessions, and not primarily about the creation of people and social relations – let alone, see how people behave within that domain as a model for human aims and aspirations more generally. Historically, the endless repetition of the ‘myth of barter’ has played a key role in making it possible to imagine that such an autonomous sphere of activity exists, and, of course, of creating the institutional arrangements that could make it possible.

The brain is a funny organ because why was I thinking about how Christianity has taught men that they have a 'right' to women and how they are the head of households and see women as property because of the Bible and how it talks about women. And how the Bible essentially makes women look like objects instead of humans as they are and equals because we are all just fucking people and how we can thank Christianity for centuries of child abuse and generational trauma because the Bible essentially paints children as 'property' of their parents and have lesser value than adults and actually excuses abuse to children (but not adults) and out of nowhere
I heard my dads voice in my head saying "I am the father, I am the head of the household. You must listen to what I say and do what I tell you my word is final." He said this to me after he slapped me across the face when I was 12. His reason for slapping me 'I thought you said you didn't care that Lynne (my dad's 'life' partner who he tried to force a 'real' mother relationship on me after my mom died) loved you and that pissed me off so i smacked you.' This was not what I had said at all, and it's interesting looking back on it because like why the fuck would you slap your child for that? Like you're a grown ass man who couldn't handle his emotions enough to ask me to clarify what I had said?! I do love and miss my dad, but that man had alot of issues he didn't deal with across his lifetime and that caused him to be abusive at times, whether that was emotional, physical or simply just being neglectful. (Had he payed more attention he probably would have seen the signs of me having adhd and autism but of course he had his mind wrapped up in other things and I wouldn't get diagnosed until I was in my 20's after he had died.)

Hi katie i love ur content but i do wanna tell you... some of it gets super close to anti pharmaceutical holistic medicine and anti modern medicine and it's not your fault if blogs intend their posts as such, but pls be careful that you remain critical of the things you rb because some of them have like.. new age/manipulative dogwhistles imho
Hi there! First of all, I wanted to say thank you for sending such a well written and thoughtful message to me. I’m really glad that you took the time to write this and to ask me something like this because I don’t want people to be scared or weary of bringing things up like this. I like to try to create an open blog where people can ask me questions about really anything they want and know that they will get a thoughtful and critical response back.
This is actually a topic that really interests me, and the more that I thought about this ask that you sent me the more I realize that I do actually have a lot of thoughts on modern medicine versus non-modern medicine. One of the things that I don’t really ever talk about with anyone is that I was actually born addicted to opioids and to spend a lot of time being weaned off of them I think that that plus having drug abuse in my household has changed the way that I see medical treatments for me personally? I don’t really talk about it with anyone because the very few times that I’ve actually opened up about it. It’s been almost immediately weaponized and used against me so I’ve just stopped sharing it with people, but I do think that it’s actually relevant here. I live with someone that’s actively against modern medicine, but I often don’t share her views either. A lot of that I think stems from her fear of illness.
I think that modern medicine should be accessible to everyone. I think there should be multiple options for everyone and easy ways to try out new medications without jumping through a million hoops. I think it should be easy and cheap if not free. I think if you find a medication that works well for you the government should be paying for that — it’s a right. I know governments have it in their budgets 🙄 are you kidding me?
But, I’m also someone that believes in the power of yoga, and meditation. I’m someone that uses tarot as an emotional regulator. I’m someone that says soup has healing properties and means it. Part of that is believing in the power behind those actions (saying “soup has healing properties” is much more magical than saying “food is fuel, you should eat to feel better”). And, part of it is the loverboy in me that thinks there’s peace in the rain and that sitting outside in the quiet connects you to all the little creatures whispering in the wind. This, in itself, is healing, and I mean it.
Most importantly, I think that these need to be in balance in order for their benefits to be reaped. You can’t rely on either one alone, in my opinion. Just because they give you different things. And, that idea of everything in moderation is kind of where my values lie in most things (this doesn’t include all the slimy goblin-like homophobes or transphobes or anyone that falls under that umbrella).
I’ve learned that the majority of the blogs on tumblr I’ll be disagreeing with, because most of them hold their beliefs to such insane extremes that I can’t possibly get behind them. Even the positivity blogs I reblog from — that isn’t possible all the time. “Staying positive” isn’t possible all the time, yk? My values are much more of a shade of grey than most blogs on here represent. Most informative blogs, anyways.
So I guess the takeaway here is that I’m always critical. The things that I share on here I see with a critical eye. It’s my job as a human that lives in this world to embrace and question the world I live in, because both are forms of loving life.
I actually really like conversations like this, and really enjoy when people send this stuff in so feel free to — you or anyone else. And, usually the blogs I reblog stuff from I don’t even see. I usually filter through tags instead of cruising on blogs (although my mutuals I check in on). So, usually the blog I’m reblogging something from has a completely different take from me, and I’m interpreting a less extreme version of their take lol.
Also, thanks for sticking around! Love ya right back :) I hope this answered any concerns you have and clarified my stance.
EDIT: if you want to follow me on a platform where I express a lot more of my actual views, I’d recommend tiktok. I don’t make TikToks but honestly if enough people followed me on there I could see myself making some. I mostly repost stuff but I find there are people on there that articulate my thoughts better than the blogs run on here.

...what? There are legitimate criticisms of generative AI but this is patently absurd.
1) The calculator ABSOLUTELY forcibly pervades every aspect of our lives!! It is borderline impossible to go through life without using any form of computer technology... y'know, the things built on calculators. Calculators have pervaded our lives far, FAR more extensively than generative AI programs. Basically all government infrastructure across the entire world is literally dependent on calculators to not immediately collapse within hours.
2) Error rate is sort of a point, but also it's worth mentioning that calculators have been around for decades and decades longer than the modern generative AI, and still there are people whose entire jobs are fixing the problems when calculators make errors.
3) Quite honestly I don't care about the plagiarism argument. Intellectual property is a joke, and I suspect this is a point that we will never agree upon, so it's not worth arguing. Hold whatever beliefs you will.
4) Sorry, calculators don't obliterate the environment? Calculators, as I said earlier, are critical to world infrastructure- including things like international shipping, oil refineries, military technology, data centers, etc. Hell, generative AI in the first place is literally just a bunch of calculations. The entire reason it takes so much power is because it's something that requires a bunch of calculators to work very quickly. Calculators as a whole cause orders of magnitude more environmental damage than generative AI- which is just one specific application of calculators. Without a doubt, humanity would not be nearly so far down the climate change spiral were it not for calculators.
I think making any genuine comparison between generative AI and all of electronic calculation is more than a little silly, not to mention useless and needlessly inflammatory on the part of whoever originally said that, but these criticisms are no less uninformed.
There ABSOLUTELY ARE legitimate concerns to be had with the direction modern generative AI is going. Notably, the undercutting of labor value for certain groups of workers (which is actually an issue with, y'know, any productive technological development under capitalism- including the calculator on an unprecedented scale!), and the amount of time, money, and physical resources being poured into applications of generative AI which amount to flashy tricks at best (AI-generated art/video, "autofill but more" etc) and actively malicious technologies at worst (advanced target identification for military/law enforcement, for example).
Make those criticisms instead, rather than combatting a silly argument about calculators with another silly (and just factory incorrect) argument about calculators.
'People are panicking about AI tools the same way they did when the calculator was invented, stop worrying' cannot stress enough the calculator did not forcibly pervade every aspect of our lives, has such a low error rate it's a statistical anomaly when it does happen, isn't built on mass plagiarism, and does not obliterate the fucking environment when you use it. Be so fucking serious right now

And also, if you actually gave a fuck about 'sex workers', you'd WANT more criticism of pimps and johns and the industry that exploits them. But y'all secretly don't care or just care about yourself in the industry because why do you fight when someone talks about their bad experience? This isn t simply a matter of misunderstanding—it s a deliberate attempt to invalidate. These comments reflect a resistance to accepting the reality of emotional suffering, especially when it disrupts the narrative of strength and stoicism. But what is it about pain, specifically when expressed by women, that makes it so uncomfortable to acknowledge? Marriage as a system of control has historically been used to bind women to men legally and financially. Even today, marriage laws often leave women vulnerable in divorce, with property, custody, and financial settlements favoring men. Feminists critique marriage as an institution that traps women in cycles of dependence and disempowerment, making it harder for them to leave unhealthy relationships. Men's reactions to women's pain also reflect a broader cultural tendency to dismiss emotions as weaknesses rather than acknowledge them as part of the human experience. Many men seem to be uncomfortable with vulnerability, not only in others but also within themselves. When a woman expresses hurt, the male response is often one of disbelief or disdain, as if the very act of being affected by something is a moral failing. This reflects a deeply ingrained notion that emotions are a sign of weakness—a belief that stems from a culture that has long valued stoicism, particularly in men. Gender, as a social construct, has historically been used as a tool of oppression. It 's been a method of ensuring that women remain economically and socially dependent, while men are funneled into roles of power, such as joining the military. By framing gender as something innate or identity-based, society perpetuates these old hierarchies. In reality, gender functions less as an expression of self and more as a deeply embedded system designed to maintain control and limit freedoms. Power-up: Youve got to poh like you mean it, especially when Gay Luigi is involved. meat: If you tring the peanuts, we might be able to reach Links kitchen of shame. me: Go to the goofy zone. What if moids isnt really peenis after all?

Unlock the Power of Real Crystals: Shopping Tips and Benefits
For millennia, humans have been enthralled with crystals because of their unusual hues, forms, and inherent beauty. Real crystals are more common than ever now and draw those who want to improve their environments, investigate natural wellness techniques, or gather exquisite objects with special backgrounds. For fans, finding real, high-quality stones is crucial; hence, selecting the correct Crystal Store is necessary to receive items that are both legitimate and energetically strong. The worth of actual crystals, their sources, and advice on choosing a reliable retailer are covered on this page.
The Importance of Choosing Real Crystals
Regarding crystal investment, authenticity is quite important. The natural formation of "real crystals" on Earth offers every stone unique mineral composition, color range, and energy qualities. Considered to have special powers, genuine stones are employed in many disciplines, including meditation, emotional equilibrium, and personal development. Real crystals must be different from imitations since fake or synthetic stones lack the natural formation process and feature that actioners value. Knowing the fundamental properties of actual crystals will help you to choose quality stones. Usually, with little flaws like natural lines or inclusions, real crystals have character and distinctiveness. While artificial stones could seem too brilliant or too homogeneous, real crystals often have varied and subdued colors. This knowledge enables consumers to make wise decisions and prevent the purchase of synthetic or low-quality stones, therefore guaranteeing that they bring home real objects fit for their purposes.
Finding the Right Crystal Store for Quality and Variety
Looking for real stones requires a careful choice of Crystal Store. A respectable retailer will give quality top priority, offering real crystals carefully chosen for their inherent beauty from ethical sources. From polished stones and raw minerals to crystal jewelry and decorative accents, the greatest stores provide a vast array of choices so that consumers may locate exactly what suits their tastes and wants. To enable consumers to make informed judgments, a reputable store—in-person or online—often provides details about every stone, including its source and qualities. Many crystal retailers also stress ethical sourcing, which means the stones are gathered in a way that honors the local communities engaged in the mining operations as well as the surroundings. A quality store is distinguished by this dedication to moral behavior, which also provides consumers hope that their purchases support good company operations. For people who enjoy crystals, a reliable store guarantees not only diversity but also dependability so that every stone bought is really original.
Popular Types of Real Crystals and Their Uses
Discovering a "Crystal Store" exposes an amazing range of stones with individual qualities and symbolic connotations. Often utilized for stress release and spiritual clarity, amethyst is beloved for its soothing and balanced energy. Thought to be the "master healer," clear quartz is adaptable and can accentuate the qualities of other stones. The stone of love, rose quartz, encourages harmony in relationships; citrine, with its brilliant, sunny hue, is connected with abundance and positivity. Every crystal has a different function, which lets people select stones that speak to their own aspirations. Real crystals offer both beauty and meaning, whether one is choosing stones for meditation, home décor, or personal well-being. This choosing procedure gives crystal buying a customized touch so that every purchase reflects unique goals and energy.
How to Incorporate Real Crystals into Daily Life
Including actual crystals in daily life can be easy and significant at the same time. Arranging them in particular parts of the house or office will improve the vitality of the room and foster a good atmosphere. Rose quartz, for example, is supposed to inspire love and harmony in the bedroom; a little piece of citrine on a desk is supposed to help with attention and creativity. While larger crystals are lovely, natural décor pieces that accentuate any room, carrying smaller stones in a pocket or pocketbook helps one stay connected to particular energies all through the day.
Discover the Beauty and Energy of Labradorite
Often showing hues of blue, green, and gold that seem to change in the light, Labradorite is a fascinating gemstone distinguished by its unusual iridescent play of colors. Highly prized for its beauty, labradorite is also prized for its supposed metaphysical qualities since it is thought to guard against evil energy and inspire spiritual awakening. This gemstone is becoming somewhat common in jewelry since it gives any piece an amazing, magical character. Perfect for individuals looking for a bit of the mysterious as well as aesthetic appeal, labradorite gives daily wear elegance and magic.

11 Reasons why I am 'a catch'
. 1. REAL I am loyal and looking for something real... ...Not just 'companionship' or a ONS. If it's not love, then it ain't worth it. It is better to be with no one - than the wrong one. So, I don't ask absolutely everyone out in all directions. So if we are dating you know that you are special to me! - not just a mere 'gap filler'. . 2. PHYSICAL INVESTMENT. Although still flabby, I am far less flabby than I used to be. I have gone from a 50"" waist and walking with a stick to 38"" and dancing lots. I will get even thinner and less fabby as time goes on. I am an investment worth taking as my physical value is very likely to go up! . 3 CONSISTENCY Even though I am self-improving - That does not mean you not already perfect to me. If we are dating then I must already like you a lot, just as you are! . 4 SUPPORTIVE ...BUT! Despite on 3 above. If you DO want to change anything about yourself. Then I will do what I can to help you reach those goals. I Am on Your side! . 5 YUM! I am a Very good cook. . 6 SEX My sex drive is the same as when I was 18. Nothing has diminished over time in that respect. But looking cute is not enough I am only properly aroused by a woman that can touch my soul. Plenty of women just look cute but not many have any inner beauty. That only comes from a fierce woman of both courage and willpower! . 7 ENTERTAINMENT If you have half a brain, Then you will not find me boring I can keep your mind engaged and stimulated. . 8 RESPECTFUL. I actually LIKE talking to you about your emotions, dreams and feelings. Because I actually dam well Do Care about how you feel! So, Tell me! . 9 COURAGE I am pretty fearless and I am willing to do what might have to be done. But Without being a slave to my ego. I act Only on 'what is right' not on 'what looks good to others' . 10 FIDELITY. This should Not need to be on any list - It should already be a standard given. But (shrug) apparently in this modern world this now counts as an 'extra' If that annoys you, then I totally agree with you! I don't like this about today's world either! . 11 ETHICS Unlike most men I see locally around me... ...I actually have some. . Downsides? . Ok... I admit I can't do anything about the face. But this is a northern seaside town TS10 in the UK - Not Hollywood, USA! So maybe you should be a bit more realistic about your expectations! . ..And I have no money. But that just helps filter out all the women with a crass lack of moral values. If you can not value the content of a fellow human being's character over diamonds, pearls and gold... ...then just keep walking, because that trait is so ugly to me! . The Cost? All I want is the same loyalty, love, affection and respect that I offer you. Nothing more. Nothing less. . IF I AM (for some dumb ass reason) NOT THE SORT IF MAN YOU WANT... ...Then perhaps You need to have a good long hard look at yourself! ...and ask yourself "why?" REMEMBER THAT the next time you end up with some lying cheating violent dirtbag that considers you their property and treats you like crap! Because that shit is partly on you, if you keeping choosing men who treat women like that each and every time! So, Ask yourself why you are only attracted to total shit heads! .

anything that has ever been created by human hands has a political side to it. Cocomelon included, and this article is a great look into it:
Use https://12ft.io/to read it past the paywall!
Jenny Radesky, a developmental behavioral pediatrician, helped author the A.A.P. guidelines. She has been watching and evaluating children’s TV shows for years, scoring their educational effectiveness on a scale of zero to two. Ms. Rachel and the PBS program “Daniel Tiger” consistently received twos, she said. CoComelon and Blippi, another Moonbug property, were always ones—neither awful nor excellent. Zero, she said, was for the dregs of YouTube. Another leading researcher, Rachel Barr, who teaches at Georgetown, told me that the YouTube era had produced a lot of shows that were “frenetic, sort of bedazzling, high on the cognitive load.” This style drives us to pay attention: our visual systems, Barr said, are geared to reflexively orient toward rapid changes. But it can overwhelm a child’s ability to “encode the content,” as she put it—that is, to actually learn anything. The people who create CoComelon might value education, Barr went on, but the metric that would determine Moonbug’s profitability was time onscreen. Radesky suggested that the company’s priorities were apparent in the way it presented its content. “Just the fact that the compilations are marked thirty minutes, sixty minutes: they know these products are filling a gap created by parents being overworked, not having family leave—who are so stressed that they need to occupy their children for a certain amount of time,” she said. Overwork and the absence of child care, she noted, are “systemic issues that keep us from parenting the way we want to.” These systemic issues may help explain why, on Netflix in the U.S., CoComelon is particularly popular with nonwhite viewers. In 2020, according to an annual survey by the nonprofit Common Sense Media, white children aged eight and under used mobile devices for an average of thirty-seven minutes a day. That year, Black children of the same age used mobile devices for more than a hundred minutes a day. Jepha Krieg worked in Moonbug’s London office in 2021 and 2022. She was part of a team of about thirty people who repackaged the company’s videos into compilations in order to generate more views and more ad revenue. Previously, Krieg had worked as a preschool teacher, and she’d got the impression that kids who watched hours of CoComelon every day had a hard time regulating their emotions. But she wanted to get into online media—she’s now a channel manager for a digital-content studio—and Moonbug had a mission of creating educational resources, which sounded great. Her point of view changed once she started working there. “I think they have an excellent P.R. team who know all the buzzwords to make it feel like they’re making excellent, culturally relevant, educational content,” she told me. “And then they’ve got thirty-seven people in the back room making fifteen different combinations of the same ten songs over and over.” As part of her job, Krieg would keep an eye on traffic: if a video with a thumbnail image of a certain dog got a lot of views, she’d make a bunch of thumbnails featuring that dog. At first, she said, the compilations were mostly fifteen or thirty minutes long. “Then we were, like, ‘Oh, the thirty-minute ones are doing really well—let’s try sixty minutes!’ ‘Those are doing really well—let’s try ninety!’ ‘Let’s now have everyone posting two-hour-long compilations on every single channel every single week, hooray.’ ” Looking through CoComelon’s YouTube channels to find the outer length limit, the only channel I found with five-hour compilations of different songs was the one dedicated to Cody, a Black character on the show.
.........
I ended up speaking to ten people who had worked on CoComelon or associated properties at various points between 2020 and 2023. Most of them requested anonymity—some had signed nondisclosure agreements, others feared professional reprisal. Those who had worked in the L.A. office described it as a chaotic, micromanaged, and morale-depleting place. More broadly, they voiced complaints that echoed what Krieg, the former London employee, had suggested: that the company’s stated commitments to education and cultural relevance, including diversity, primarily existed as a rationalization for harnessing the maximum amount of attention from young children around the world. Usually, in children’s television, “the audience comes first,” one ex-employee, who’d also worked at multiple major networks, told me. “At Moonbug, revenue and analytics is first, audience second.” Multiple people asked if I’d heard about the spreadsheets. CoComelon episodes, they said, were put together with the aid of spreadsheets showing the most popular search terms on YouTube. “Ideally, you want to come up with an engaging idea that has a bunch of those search terms in it,” another former employee told me. A lot of parents, harangued by a toddler, will open YouTube and search the word “train.” To fulfill this content need, a twenty-one-year-old assistant had co-written a song called “Train Song,” which eventually featured in an episode that now has more than a quarter of a billion views. (The assistant told me that she regularly worked ten-hour days and was also tasked with writing scripts. Her starting salary was thirty-six thousand dollars.)
everything has political content. sorry. theres some guys who get really really angy when you say this but its true

The most important thing about anybody's body is that's them. That is the physical aspect of a whole-ass human person.
There is an ancient and still popular tradition of looking at the body as separate from the mind, a vessel, a meat mecha, whatever. I think there is reason to hypothesize that it's more intertwined than that. Consciousness might well be an emergent property of the body. But either way, you can make some changes to a body, but there's no separating the two. (Not in life, anyway.)
So all the basics of decency on how one should treat a person, the innate value of being human, the right to dignity and respect, the reasonable expectation of basic care and kindness, all of that applies to our bodies as well. Prioritizing aesthetic concerns over basic decency is bullshit. Considering the perceived state of a body's health (you can't actually tell by looking, btw) grounds for moral judgement is also bullshit. That is a human being. Don't be a dick.

Why not move? I’d never stay in a country that treats its women this way. And you working for the government indirectly supports that. Good luck.
Okay so
i've been mulling over this ever since it came to my inbox and i've been trying to find a way to answer this and NOT be impolite or improper because i am aware that not everyone knows the complications of straight up moving to a different country, as it is not as simple as just moving to a different STATE, like the US, [and to be fair i've heard that even THAT could be stressful] and as someone who has LIVED in 3 countries and has visited another 5+ countries, let me tell you that your question is extremely ignorant and insensitive and straight up hurtful to all the people who both DONT want to leave their communities here and also the people who DO want to leave but are too poor to do so.... because our country, due to the prohibition by good ol' murica has now the lowest money currency value on the PLANET, and we have been suffering in silence for DECADES- with NO way to transfer money into our country- [donation campaigns are usually a scam, pay attention to those please] so in short? we are poor as absolute FUCK-!
and the process of moving somewhere else is already hard enough for people who DONT have as much financial issues, let alone US.
what exactly would anyone propose we do? when we dont have the money to request for any sort of visa, nor to get a house in a different country, nor food, nor for studying, living, getting medical or MENTAL health help- etc etc etc???
and reports of smuggling people out of the country usually come back as human trafficking or the gov blew them up or killed them somehow? idk this has actually happened with a PLANE once-
the only way to leave this country is being filthy rich, fucking LUCKY, or just a very very VERY smart student which again more often than not requires both money AND luck to get accepted in any university... so again.... no money!!!
like im sorry for snapping but here i am being told "why don't you leave" as if i haven't tried to find a way all my life, as if its some sort of sick joke- i cant, i fucking CANT!- i have family members i care about and wouldn't want to leave- other countries treat us like garbage thanks to online media portraying us as monsters- i cant spend another 10 years to study shit all over again just to send a letter to foreign universities with barely enough luck because im NOT that smart at all!! and it reminds me of when i look at my dad and say i wish we lived somewhere else and he looks at me like "then leave" in the cruelest way imaginable because he KNOWS we cant fucking leave due to him being a diplomat-
every country has its own culture and history and communities that they value and want to protect and stand by, so people cant just LEAVE, and even if they do, more often than not, other places would never accept them or appreciate them the same way their own country would. Like did yall tell black people to leave america after the BLM movement when George Floyd got killed? this is our home and we need to stop saying "then leave" and start saying "we need to start fixing this shit"
we are so fucking tired. please stop saying "then leave" if you just "don't want to help"...
as for me working for the gov, my dad is already a diplomat and keeps me away from doing anything against the regime, and also i'm considered one of the LUCKY ones in my country, who has a job that ensures a constant pay since the first semester of UNIVERSITY. im one of the few that could actually have a meal at night without worrying about what i'm going to eat tomorrow, and at the same time i teach kids from the inside to not take shit from the gov. i consider myself VERY lucky.
we aren't playing a videogame to take shallow black and white SIDES- even the protesters have destroyed privet properties and peoples cars and etc etc, and some people straight up want the monarchy system back as if that very system wasn't the entire reason that half of our countries riches and history isn't in the BRITISH museum today instead of their homeland!! this shit started over the freedom to WEAR what we want not to HURT everyone in blind rage!!!
Please never say "just leave" to anyone else ever again, especially to someone who doesn't even know if they'll live another day stepping out of the door, let alone drive all the way to an airport or the country boarders or something.... if they even HAVE the money to go that far.
So thankyou for reading and being concerned in your own way but id rather stay here and die in a country that doesn't accept me as a WOMAN than to live a futureless life in a country that wouldn't even accept me as a PERSON.
