Mahmoud Atta was a school teacher in Gaza before the occupation tore apart his life. Struggling without food, shelter, or bed, he could really use your help.
Mahmoud's fundraiser is vetted by @gazavetters at #365 on the list, so please believe him as a kind and honest man.

This is a fragment from the missiles that are being launched onto the tents, where people are under attack by the latest weapons while still in their shelters. They are surrounded by hunger, fear, death, and suffering from both physical and psychological illnesses. No one in Gaza is safe amidst this destruction.
My family is living through an unbearable nightmare. Please, help me evacuate them from Gaza and ease their suffering. Any donation, no matter the amount, contributes to saving innocent lives including six children. Even a €5 donation can make a difference. If you cannot donate, please keep sharing this message to raise awareness.
You are our only hope. Without your help, we cannot do anything for our families in Gaza. Thank you for your support and solidarity.

...what? There are legitimate criticisms of generative AI but this is patently absurd.
1) The calculator ABSOLUTELY forcibly pervades every aspect of our lives!! It is borderline impossible to go through life without using any form of computer technology... y'know, the things built on calculators. Calculators have pervaded our lives far, FAR more extensively than generative AI programs. Basically all government infrastructure across the entire world is literally dependent on calculators to not immediately collapse within hours.
2) Error rate is sort of a point, but also it's worth mentioning that calculators have been around for decades and decades longer than the modern generative AI, and still there are people whose entire jobs are fixing the problems when calculators make errors.
3) Quite honestly I don't care about the plagiarism argument. Intellectual property is a joke, and I suspect this is a point that we will never agree upon, so it's not worth arguing. Hold whatever beliefs you will.
4) Sorry, calculators don't obliterate the environment? Calculators, as I said earlier, are critical to world infrastructure- including things like international shipping, oil refineries, military technology, data centers, etc. Hell, generative AI in the first place is literally just a bunch of calculations. The entire reason it takes so much power is because it's something that requires a bunch of calculators to work very quickly. Calculators as a whole cause orders of magnitude more environmental damage than generative AI- which is just one specific application of calculators. Without a doubt, humanity would not be nearly so far down the climate change spiral were it not for calculators.
I think making any genuine comparison between generative AI and all of electronic calculation is more than a little silly, not to mention useless and needlessly inflammatory on the part of whoever originally said that, but these criticisms are no less uninformed.
There ABSOLUTELY ARE legitimate concerns to be had with the direction modern generative AI is going. Notably, the undercutting of labor value for certain groups of workers (which is actually an issue with, y'know, any productive technological development under capitalism- including the calculator on an unprecedented scale!), and the amount of time, money, and physical resources being poured into applications of generative AI which amount to flashy tricks at best (AI-generated art/video, "autofill but more" etc) and actively malicious technologies at worst (advanced target identification for military/law enforcement, for example).
Make those criticisms instead, rather than combatting a silly argument about calculators with another silly (and just factory incorrect) argument about calculators.
'People are panicking about AI tools the same way they did when the calculator was invented, stop worrying' cannot stress enough the calculator did not forcibly pervade every aspect of our lives, has such a low error rate it's a statistical anomaly when it does happen, isn't built on mass plagiarism, and does not obliterate the fucking environment when you use it. Be so fucking serious right now

you have just got to stop crowing about "the ruling class losing control of the narrative" every single time a bunch of usamericans on twitter are doing meme politics with zero understanding of or commitment to basic principles of historical materialism or anti imperialism. some of these are legitimate opportunities for radicalisation if the organisational infrastructure existed but they're emphatically not radicalisation or mass politics on their own

one of the most important things you can do as an ally to trans women is defending her first. it’s important to be aware of her own needs and her fears of being removed for causing problems so you don’t alienate her from a cruel but necessary family connection or something, but while keeping that in mind, if you’re in a social situation where someone says something shitty or implies something transmisogynistic to her, don’t just sit there and wait and watch what she does and how she might stand up for herself, stand up for her. in the past when transmisogynistic things happened to me while with friends, almost every time they flattened behind me and silently waited to see how i dealt with it. save your girls the stress and the loneliness and be there for them first, be around them, be beside them, make them know you have their back, especially if you’re not a transfem; people will actually listen to you when you say it’s bigoted

ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help

Tout à Coup Jazz
“Thomas Sankara was a skilled jazz musician, but Compaoré just sang,” says Cisse. “There were more rehearsals than concerts but every performance was magical. When in government, Sankara knew that music was a tool for cultural development, and could effectively be used to promote the revolution”
“He was the special one,” says Pascal Ouédraogo Kayouré, who says he taught Sankara how to play the guitar as a child. “He will always be part of our history. His real passion was music. He was a very disciplined student.” (x)

Hello my friend 🍉
, if you could, my dear, help me with my child so that I can provide her with milk and Pampers, their price is very expensive, and we are in Gaza during the war. There is nothing left for us and we cannot provide the minimum necessities of life.
I do not want to lose my children. I ask for help, even if it is a little.🙏🏻🙏🏻
Please, please, thank you.🥺
