ᯤ plays for the mobs. will protect his lovelies with all his heart. ᯤ when he got his first minecraft dog, he built a little kennel made of cherry wood for it, only for it to fall into a pit of lava deep in the caves on day 5 ᯤ he cried for five hours ᯤ once you dyed all his sheep pink and he started to tear up just from looking at them ᯤ “hear me out, okay? i think we should get a pet axolotl.” and it’s legal in japan, so you do! (her name is hyoma jr) ᯤ has a huge minecraft zoo ᯤ favourite mob: parrots (they can sit)

rin itoshi:

ᯤ is mean to you at first. he’ll be like “why do you suck at this” and “i could do that too” ᯤ then he gets his hands on the controller and can’t figure out the controls for half an hour ᯤ “… love?” ᯤ “… yes, rin?” (you, amused) ᯤ “… how do you jump…” ᯤ its subtle charm does grow on him after a while. he plays on creative mode and just explores the server on a horse he named sugarcube ᯤ it’s cute watching him play (you send photos to sae) ᯤ favourite mob: sheep (all they do is eat grass and don’t bother you)

seishiro nagi:

ᯤ i will subvert expectations here and say that nagi doesn’t even play minecraft that much because he doesn’t like it ᯤ “such a hassle to play this game… there isn’t even any storyline you can just do whatever you want… and i don’t want to have to decide what to do” ᯤ he ends up finding a passion for building elaborate traps for you to walk into ᯤ absolute beast at parkour. he performs triple neos to perfection ᯤ if he’s a streamer he plays on twitch for the fans but he complains as he does it ᯤ favourite mob: bees (they’re just cute)

kenyu yukimiya:

ᯤ he doesn’t really play video games so understandably he gets off to a slow start ᯤ but once he gets the hang of things? he’s unstoppable. breezing through achievements like nobody’s business ᯤ he’s really excited about it too like “did you see that?? i just killed a zombie!” ᯤ it’s truly the culmination of 18 years of not touching a single game as a child/teen and now playing a sandbox game ᯤ feeling confident, he starts a hardcore world. (he dies from hunger.) ᯤ he's the kind to look up the most beautiful minecraft seed numbers, key them in meticulously and just take in how amazing they are ᯤ favourite mob: foxes, specifically the orange ones (he loves all things forest biome)

ryusei shidou:

ᯤ we all know he’s a very artistic kind of guy so he’d be geeking out over the textures and which colours would go best with each other ᯤ he doesn’t shower for a day because he’s playing creative (my lil stinky 🫶) ᯤ he builds the most beautiful multi storey houses!! and he’s like “if it were real we could live in there together 🥺“ ᯤ “why is the bedroom huge with like twenty beds…” (you, concerned) ᯤ “oh we’re gonna need space babe. for activities.” ᯤ but he doesn’t stop there; he learns how to make entire cities and landscapes and frankly they are masterpieces - think shovel241 (i freaking LOVE his videos they’re so satisfying) ᯤ favourite mob: endermen (he thinks they look badass)

oliver aiku: 

ᯤ meh he’s pretty good ᯤ raged when he first found out fall damage was a thing and again when he discovered hunger and drowning as death messages ᯤ is obsessed with speed runs and parkour for some reason (he’s really bad at both though) ᯤ is the guy who makes “100 MINECRAFT FACTS YOU DIDN’T KNOW” videos with his friends sendo and lorenzo ᯤ you once saw him set up an experiment to see how many blocks a llama can spit and died laughing ᯤ would absolutely kill you in-game just for the fun of it ᯤ favourite mob: cats (especially the black ones)

Hey, Can I make a request with a s/o teaching Shenhe, Eula, Yelan, and Arlecchino how to play video games?

(Genshin Impact) Shenhe, Eula, Yelan, Arlecchino, Furina, and Clorinde's S/O teaching them how to play video games

Game: Animal Crossing

Shenhe has tried games like Genius Invocation TCG, but that one frustrates her more than anything.

S/O, then decided to show her a game that she for sure would enjoy: Animal Crossing!

It didn't require anything other than just a will to relax. Plus, it was just a cute way to do something together!

(Shenhe) "...Your character looks cute."

Shenhe is enraptured by the charming little animals, being fondly reminded of Cloud Retainer in a strange way.

She plays it a little bit in what free time she gets, but really enjoys it in S/O's presence. Though there is one thing that annoys her about the game.

(Shenhe) "This is the fourty-seventh time I have gotten the 'Sea Bass' today. Am I doing something wrong when I am fishing, S/O?"

Her ingame avatar has long white hair and wearing something far more cutesy and casual than her usual attire.

Part of her wondered if S/O could get her these kinds of clothes from a store so she could wear it in real life.

A/N: I've gotten more Sea bass from ocean fishing in this franchise than I've eaten bread in my life.

Game: Monster Hunter

Eula decided to indulge S/O in trying to teach her how to play a game. After all, it was better than doing nothing.

It takes her a second to get used to the controls, but she quickly learns how to attack and dodge.

Only when the game truly begins did she realize what S/O had picked out.

(Eula) "Are you trying to tell me you'd like to go hunting for beasts with me, S/O?"

Teasing aside, Eula is a quick learner and becomes very skilled at hunting the many monsters of the game, getting weirdly competitive about it. Despite the fact there was no player versus player element at all in it.

(Eula) "HAH! I finally made the best Master Rank armor in the game! Everything we fight should be child's play!"

She also loves the cat companions that are in the game and spends a great deal of time dressing them up in cute/hilarious outfits.

Though she will enact vengeance if anyone calls her out on that.

A/N: Man I can't wait for Wilds.

Game: Metal Gear Solid

Yelan usually rolls dice to see what her day off becomes.

And this time, it was to have S/O show her these "Video Games".

Yelan settled for some "Tactical Espionage Action" game, the irony not being lost on her at all.

She learns the controls and plays it extremely casually, being more drawn in by the absurd story and characters.

Yelan is usually laughing at the action, but still enjoying herself.

(Yelan) "Geez, is this how your world views agents, S/O? It's not nearly as cool as this game's making it out to be."

Part of her wants to try hiding in a box to see if anyone would notice, but she'd also like to still be alive and not caught.

But the temptation is always there, everytime the dice decides for her to play this game again and again...

(Yelan) "Hm...the explosions in this game are a little much, but I guess it's also not entirely inaccurate...Sometimes, anyway."

Game: Mario Kart

Arlecchino usually passes on any offer to play a game, not because she didn't want to, but because she likes to observe.

(Arlecchino) "Let the children play first, S/O. I will join soon after."

What she usually witnesses for Mario Kart is a bloodbath.

This game brings out something in her kids that she hasn't seen before.

Even Freminent and Lynette, some of her more reserved kids, turn to something feral when playing against the others.

She's equally entertained and kind of concerned, like maybe this game wasn't healthy, but it did bring everyone closer and give the kids something fun to do.

Arlecchino decides to jump in at many kids' requests, and admittedly isn't that great at it.

But she has more satisfaction in watching the kids have fun.

That being said, there is some sadistic pleasure she has throwing the blue shell and watching whoever's in front take the brunt of it.

(Arlecchino) "Fascinating what these video games can do to children. Do you have more they can all try?"

A/N: Coconut mall is the best map, change my mind.

Game: Subnautica

Furina is at first excited to try something new.

(Furina) "Oh, a game about the beauty of the ocean? I shall beat it no problem!"

But she didn't realize that unlike Fontaine's waters, (Which to be fair, held its own terrors), this was an alien planet's ocean.

She's jumping at every little thing, screaming as she's desperately swimming away from the tiniest fish or anything that even makes a weird noise.

(Furina) "W-WHAT WAS THAT NOISE?! I'M GOING BACK TO THE LIFEPOD!"

That's not even to mention the Leviathans.

The first time she saw a Reaper, she immediately dropped the controller and buried her face into S/O's arms in terror, yelling out something sounding like a curse and crying.

Furina doesn't like video games anymore.

It takes something like Endless Ocean to calm her down about the waters again, thinking that every video game ocean has a Leviathan now.

A/N: For me, that game is horror until I get the Prawn Suit, then it becomes Pacific Rim as I hunt down every Reaper near the Aurora.

Game: Baldur's Gate 3

Clorinde was intrigued by video games, but honestly wasn't too keen on the idea of trying it. It didn't seem up her alley.

Until S/O showed her a game like Tabletop Troupe, but this time without the fears of annihilating some poor Game Master's campaign.

(Clorinde) "...Do you mind if I give this game a try, S/O?"

Her expression doesn't really change as she's playing, but that's because Clorinde is really immersed in the world.

It's just a lot of fun to truly let loose and interact with the world and NPC's, no fear of dealing with any player trying to murder-hobo their way.

SHE could be the Murder-Hobo, finally. Not that she would.

She enjoys playing it in her off time, but nothing beats living players and rolling the dice herself however.

This game did give her a few ideas for some new campaigns however.

(Clorinde) "I'd be interested in seeing you play with me, S/O. What choices would you make? And by the way, in true Tabletop Troupe fashion, we're not save-scumming. Once you roll the D20, our fate is sealed."

- He’s been making videos for quite a while and hired an editor because he isn’t too experienced with editing.

- He makes a video pretty much every week, sends it to you, tells you some details he would for his video with a little, you’ll edit, sends the finished product, he loves it and post. Repeat.

- After a few weeks, the both of you started chatting with each other regularly,checking up on each other, talked about the similar hobbies you guys share, laughing at each other’s cringe roblox usernames. You guys even decided to have matching avatars.

-From chatting daily to having voice calls for random game nights to FaceTiming. You were shy at first to reveal your face but as time goes by, you eventually got comfortable with it. (Bro was gagged by your face card)

“I must be lucky to have a pretty editor like you. ;)” ,that line totally send butterflies to your stomach.

- One time he asked if you would like to be in a video and play roblox with him. At first you were quite hesitant since his number of followers were slowly rising and afraid that it would destruct his fans.

“Well if they start hating me, just let them. I rather have that then having some fake fans you know??” “Plus I’m just here to have fun so what can they do? Mhm?”

- After his reassurance, you agreed and record the video together online.

There was a long pause. “Um…hi?” You said awkwardly as you don’t have much experience being recorded.

But after a while,you got used to it and the both of you decided to play some two player obbies. At first it was going smoothly, just simple jumps and walks. However, when you guys got closer to the end, the difficulty rises.

“DAISUKE PLEASE DONT MISS THE JUMP OR I MIGHT ACTUALLY BREAK. DOWN.”

“STOPP,YOUR STRESSING ME PRETTY GIRLL”

Your skin tingles every time he calls you that but it didn’t make you feel better. He indeed did miss the jump.

You then looked at the time to realise it took almost two hours to complete the obbies, it’s already 1am which is quite alright since we’re used to it but you suddenly remembered you had other ‘important’ plans in the morning and cut off daisuke’s next sentence.

“hmm what should we play next-”

“As much as I would love to continue this all with you but I really have to head to bed right now”

“Ouh finally sleeping quite earlier then usual, aren’t we?”

“well I do have plans for tomorrow, quite important to me heh..”

“Okayy then, have a good sle-” he then pauses, his mind recalling his previous chats with you and the puzzle pieces matched. “Wait, your going to that cat cafe you talked about right??? I do remember you sending me a post about it opening for tomorrow or more like ‘later in the morning’ hmm?”

“Yeaaa, oh wait I did told you about it.”

“Could I go with you,pleasee. It’s not too far from my area and plus you get to meet ‘this gorgeous cool guy’ for first time in your lifeee.”

You felt ??? by the sudden plan of his, “mhmmm sure I don’t mind honestly”

The excitement for ‘tomorrow’ was rising in you but yet feeling nervous and curious. How tall would he be? Would his behaviour be completely different? The thoughts were filling up your mind.

You head to bed with your phone, texting him about the plans while your allow your body to lay on the bed,sheets covering your body, head against your soft pillow.

“How about we meet up at a metro station first? Then we could walk tgt to the cat cafe? How does that sound to you?”

“That sounds great to me;)”

Daisuke replied almost instantly and brought up about having matching outfits and of course you couldn’t turn that offer down.

“hmm let’s match in colours then?”

“Suree”

“Any colours in mind?”

“Hmm, not really”

“Me too honestly. How about I’ll choose it tmr while I pick my outfit hm?”

“Sure but don’t be too lateee”

LUCIFER

You and Lucifer have been working on paperwork in his office for what feels like all day. Having felt bad for the exhausted demon, you had insisted to help him out, even if it was just a bit. Despite the determination you have to help lessen his work load, you can't help but to doze off.

You're eyes start to flutter shut, every attempt made to stop it failing miserably. Lucifer noticed this, of course. He wasn't blind, he could see the way your beautiful eyes threatened to shut at any time.

He expected you to fall asleep, but he didn't expect it when your head tilted to the side, landing on his shoulder. He can't stop the light pink that dusts the tips of his ears. The corners of his lips twitch up into a small smirk, his pride swelling a bit at the situation. His human You fell asleep on him.

He also can't help the way he lets his demon form out, his large black wings closing around you, wrapping you in them like a soft, warm blanket.

He doesn't want His favorite human to get cold, after all.

MAMMON

You and Mammon are currently running away from Lucifer. The Panzi scheme Mammon dragged you into doing with him failing miserably, and attracting the wrath of his older brother.

You're running as fast as you can, which isn't great coupled with the fact that you've starting running down the large staircase. Your foot slips, causing you to fall. Just as your life is about to flash in front of your eyes, you feel one of Mammons leathery black wings wrap around you, scooping you up before you could fall to what would've been your doom.

He's to absorbed in the moment to realize he's practically swaddled you in his tail. That is, until you finally get to safety. His wing is still wrapped firmly around you as he catches his breath.

"Whew! That was a-" He starts, but his words catch in his throat as he sees you in his wing, laughing breathlessly beside him. The heat rises to his cheeks quickly, his face flushing bright red in no time.

He keeps his wing around you for as long as possible. When you finally start to tease him about it, he denies everything Like the tsundere he is. And even then he keeps his wing tucked firmly around you for as long as you'll let him.

He's the avatar of greed, after all.

LEVIATHAN

You and Levi were both holed up in his room playing the newest two player video game he brough. You've both been at this for hours, not that either if you mind.

After a while you feel something cold wrap around your waist. You look down to see Levi's tail wrapped firmly around your waist, the tip of his tail rubbing against the plush of your thighs. You look over at him, trying to see whats going on.

He was so excited after winning the game he didn't even realize hd went into his demon form, until he saw you looking at him with that smug look on your face. That's when he noticed it. And to say the sight nearly gave him a heart palpitation wouldn't be an exaggeration. He quickly unwraps his tail from your waist, his face a blushing mess as he stammers out an apology.

"S-sorry! You probably don't want to touch a yucky otaku like me anyway-"

You cut him off in the middle of his self deprecation.

"Levi, it's fine. It's actually nice, having your tail around me like that."

This man lost his mind at that. His face flushes and blood drips from his nose like an anime character. He nods, not trusting his voice at the moment. He wraps his tail back around you, tugging you slightly closer to him.

"L-lets get back to gaming, yeah?"

He says, picking his controller back up and pressing play on his game. Though gaming wasn't actually what was on his mind wink wink.

It's safe to say he focused none on the game that night.

MIDNIGHT CINDERELLA MEMORIAL POST

The Midnight Cinderella app will be closed on Monday August 26th, 2024 (5 PM JST). The English version was actively updated from 2014 to 2021 when Cybird announced the ceasing of operations for MidCin, but the app remained accessible until today. I'm sure I'm not the only one who mourns the loss of it even after all these years of discontinuation, so I wanted to put together a post to properly say goodbye to it. Trying my best not to make it all too sappy - I'd rather look at it as a show that reached its final episode. Some things might be left unresolved but in the end, you remember the cast and the emotions they made you feel more than the actual plot. Nowadays there arguably may be better titles by Cybird out there, but for me, the simplicity of MidCin was what made the details so memorable.

1. VIDEO - POV: You're playing Midnight Cinderella (for 10 minutes)

The 10-minute version (without sound) is accessible via the link above (opens in Google Docs) This one I was really excited about recording! It's just your normal day playing midcin, I'm sure many will find it nostalgic and comforting. You log in, claim your daily bonus (I used the chance to do a present box reveal, 90+ items, many of which you might recognize from route grace checks), play the garden gacha (in my case, I used up all the points I had accumulated, 7800 which equals 39 solos), do your princess lessons, change your avatar, greet your friends, read 1/5 of today's free story parts, check the ranking and your stats, look at your memories directory. The video has no sound, as the game wouldn't let me turn it on (you will see me try to do so throughout the video...) but later on I got it to work so I recorded a one-minute video (the one imported above) of me replenishing stamina just for those iconic sound effects that you either loved or absolutely couldn't stand the volume of, haha.

2. A Midnight Cinderella playlist (spotify link)

While I wasn't there for the early days of midcin, the songs I associated with the game almost always captured this very specifically nostalgic 90s-10s period, you'll see what I mean. Many of those are taken from 8track playlists dedicated to Midnight Cinderella, and if I'm not mistaken you can still look at what is left of them if you search them up. Others are just my very random interpretations of the route stories and the characters.

3. Fic recommendations

We have a lovely community of creatives and there are still so many works left behind which you can check out on the tags! But especially for fics I wanted to list some that truly touched me during the years (all links open in ao3) -

MidCin Works by DBMidCin (SoftSen) - ALL of these. This is my go-to collection of writings for midcin when I start to miss the game, it has a little bit of everything. The headcanon of Giles teaching his girls French for instance is one of the things I still remember reading like it was yesterday!

Bedroom Etiquette (NSFW) by RubyLeeRay - Because this is the dream. Doing something forbidden with your tutor Giles is the ultimate fantasy, I swear. I just love it.

7. It goes on

I went to read what I could of chapter 4 of Rayvis' route, using my last two chapter tickets as well, thinking it won't make me cry. And then I'm hit with those familiar things.

So let's close this with a word about the things that never change in the universe of Midnight Cinderella.

Stumbling down the grand staircase and right into the arms of somebody. Escaping the palace at midnight with Nico's help. Sitting at breakfast with Giles giving you your schedule for the day. Nico's teasing little smile as he accompanies you everywhere and listens to your relationship troubles. The way he's just a little suspicious at times. Finding Robert painting in the garden of Wysteria palace. Going to the room of your chosen suitor for the first time and meeting a pet there. Leo teaching you history and politics in his office. Dance lessons with Louis. Needing those dance lessons because King Byron is coming to Wysteria and a ball is going to take place. The bureaucrats being unhappy with you as a princess elect, no matter what. Galloping on a horse with Alyn who just protected you from an enemy attack. Getting information from a certain flirty merchant at a bar. Albert bickering with Nico, Sid teasing Louis. Being introduced to Archduke Herneit at Stein castle. King Byron appreciating the night sky. The sight of your yellow and orange princess elect room where on the large bed with its blue bedframe and tall see-through canopy you lie awake and think about the events of the day and how would a wise future Queen of Wysteria deal with the current situation. But ultimately you fall asleep, hearing the melancholically beautiful sounds of a violin coming from somewhere deep within your dream, and leave it all to the following day.

Miller [Streamer Yan] and Vtuber Darling that's a regular 110% human being just like them :). Darling's model is pretty average, yet cute looking, but it's their gimmick that really pulls people in.

"Ah, I'm a little thirsty. Excuse me while I drink water with my human mouth... which I have only one of."

"Do you like when I play horror games? I. Like. Them. Too. But I prefer the ones where the main character befriends the monsters at the end :)"

"Oh... Is that really what people look like instead?... I. Am full of meat too. We have so much more in common than I thought."

Quite the oddball, but their chat finds their behaviors adorable. Miller does too. They're over the moon when Darling accepts their friend requests and even more thrilled when darling mentions Miller is their first companion and streaming buddy. They've never been able to make friends before and was lonely because of it, but since they've gained a following it feels like they're never alone.

There are a few hiccups on the day Miller and Darling first stream together. Static drowns out darling's voice when they call and Miller can faintly hear what sounds like...purring? in the background. Darling apologies for the strange sounds once they're finally able to get through to Miller - their pet cat was happy they finally made a friend.

Miller is crushing hard from day one. They've never seen darling's face, but if they're half as cute as their voice they might be too far out of Miller's league. They've tried scrolling through darling's social media pages for photos of them, but all they were able to find was old selfies taken in the worst lighting imaginable... Pretty blurry too.

Darling likes Miller too. They feel as though they can trust the streamer. Trust them with anything.

"Mill...er? I. Have a confession."

"I'm all ears- Lay it on me, baby."

"Can you promise? Promise. Not to be.. Afraid?"

"Afraid? Who'd ever be scared of someone like you? You don't really scream serial killer from the conversations we've had so far."

"If that's is the case... Join the call. See. Me. I. Trust you, Miller."

Call? Oh, darling invited them to a video call. It's crazy that it's the first one after all the time, but Miller respects their privacy....a little. Miller can't see much of anything when they join in. Small, white lights greet them shrouded by the darkness of darling's room as their end connects. Looking closer, Miller realizes....

Those are eyes.

"I'm. So sorry for deceiving you.... and everyone else. Miller.... Thank you for being so kind to me. I couldn't lie to you anymore. I'm sorry. I understand. If you hate me now ...."

"Hate you?.... I'm trying to figure out when our first date is-"

"Ah?"

"You like pork chops? Steak? I remember you talking a lot about meat in earlier streams. I like a person who can really eat, y'know?"

Are they.... flirting? Darling is vaguely aware of the practice. Miller can see them right? Why are they acting so nonchalant about their appearance?

"Hm? It's still you, isn't it? A few more eyes or rows of teeth don't change the fact you're one of the chillest people I've met online. Cutest too. Even now.... So, when can we meet up?"

Miller is strange.... but Darling is strange too. They're happy they met them.

Poor Wukong, he was already making his way to crafting the wedding ring for you after he bought the recipe from the traveling cart lady.

“I got something for ya peaches!” 

His pixel self was on its way to give it to you when he saw you with one of the characters that you can date in Pelican Town. His excited tone was replaced with silence. 

His avatar looked at you, then at them, then back at you, then at them again.

This went on for a few minutes.

“Peaches… What is this?” His voice was heard clearly through your headset, making you stifle a giggle.

“What?” You asked him, not being able to contain your laughter anymore as your voice cracked. 

“(Name), I have a wedding ring RIGHT HERE for you, and yet you betray me…” Although his words sound heartbroken, you know this is all in good fun. 

To poor salt on his wound, you kissed the game character which made him scream.

“YOU’RE ALREADY ENGAGED?! NOOO!”

He hates to admit it but he is genuinely jealous, of a video game character at that.

The fact his avatar is forced to attend the wedding makes it ten times worse.

OOOOO he mumbles throughout the wedding, “It should’ve been me up there with you… Not like we’re dating or anything…”

Oh and when they move onto the farm, all hell breaks loose.

He’s distraught when you kick him out of the main farmhouse and force him to live in one of the cabins on the farm. 

He “tries” to kill them with his galaxy hammer whenever the npc walks through town or through the farmhouse, much to your dismay and somewhat pleasure (you think it’s funny). 

He also hits them with explosive ammo and rocks with his slingshot, saying things like “This is what happens when you go after someone else’s partner pal!” 

He tries to kick them out of your bed by hitting them more, even though they are an npc and they can’t get hurt.

“GET. OUT. HOMEWRECKER.” He growls as he smashes the buttons on his controller. 

Overall throughout your whole playthrough, Wukong is a jealous bitter boyfriend over pixels.

On your next playthrough, he makes you promise to marry him, “Look peaches, all I’m saying is if you want me to not make our farm look like garbage, all ya gotta do is put the ring on!”

He has a shit-eating grin on his face whenever your avatars walk by the npc in your new save.

A Quaint House With a White-Picket Fence (G/T Homelander x Reader)

1139 words. Pure fluff. Homelander is 8 feet tall. Reader is non-descriptive. Established relationship.

You teach Homelander about Animal Crossing.

With a rare day off, you decided to spend your afternoon doing something you haven't been able to for a while, play Animal Crossing. Homelander has never played a video game before, and he has made it perfectly clear to you that he has zero interest in doing so. He is also not shy at showing his jealousy at how engrossed you get playing your silly games instead of paying attention to him. As a result, you usually only play for short periods of time when you're alone.

Today was different. You have been doing nothing all day except play Animal Crossing, just like you used to do before moving into the Tower. You don't even hear him storming into the penthouse, in one of his signature grumpy moods. Grumbling irritatedly seeing you lounging on the couch, he can't believe you aren't acknowledging him and inviting him over for a cuddle like you always do. It's not like he's easy to miss.

Homelander walks over in front of the couch, attempting to make a point with his purposefully loud footsteps. And yet, you still don't even look up as he looms over you. Rolling his eyes, he places his hands on his hips as he taps his fingers on his belt. He can feel his anger bubbling to the surface, with the annoying little beeps and boops coming from the game only serving to aggravate him further.

Finally, he's had enough at watching you ignore him. With a motion so fast you barely even register what is happening, he picks you up so he can lie down on the couch, keeping you on top of him. His arms are wrapped immovably around your waist while his big head is snuggled firmly on your shoulder. He lets out a deep huff from his nose, making certain that you know how exasperated you've made him.

You stay there for a moment of tense silence, waiting for him to say something first. You feel bad for not even noticing him, but you want to see where he is mentally before you make a move.

"What is this?" he eventually asks you, contempt dripping from his voice. If you won't stop playing this dumb thing, he may as well learn what it is.

"Animal Crossing," you tell him, laughing as you practically feel him rolling his eyes. Ah, he's in one of these moods.

"It's a game where you get to play in this cute village and just do whatever," you try to clarify. "You can fish, catch bugs, decorate your house, and make friends with your neighbours. It's relaxing."

"…Why?" he retorts. He is baffled at how doing things in this game that you could do in real-life would have you so fixated.

"I dunno, it's hard to explain," you respond. "There's no stress in this world, no time-limits or deadlines. It's like… an escape."

Homelander is hushed as he contemplates your answer. The appeal still doesn't make a lot of sense to him.

"What… are you playing as?" he enquires, brow furrowing slightly. Your tiny avatar appears to be a boy with slicked-back blonde hair, wearing a blue shirt with an eagle design.

"I tried making you," you answer honestly, with a brief giggle. You click a mysterious button on your gaming device, and suddenly this character is smiling wide back at him.

"You… made me?" he ponders, rubbing his head into the crook of your neck.

"Yeah, I normally just make myself but… I wanted to see how you'd look too," you smile, returning his nuzzle. "You turned out cute, right?"

He sighs, not dignifying you with a response. This facsimile is nowhere near his level of perfection, but at least you tried.

"What's that noise?" he mumbles. "It sounds like a bug."

"What direction is it coming from?" you respond. "It might be a mole cricket, I haven't caught one of those yet."

"To the left," he guides you, using his super hearing to easily discern the origin of the bug's droning call. "Under that rock."

Homelander watches as you pull out your shovel and hit the rock, causing a cricket to pop out which you swiftly catch with your net.

"Look at that! We caught a mole cricket!" you exclaim.

"…Now what?" he queries. He doesn't understand why you seem to excited over this, it's just a disgusting, insignificant insect.

"Now we take it to the museum, so Blathers can put it on display," you reply.

"And what, we get a reward for it?" he asks.

"No, it's just for fun!" you attempt to explain. "We can get a golden net if we catch all the different kinds of bugs though!"

Once again, he feels flabbergasted by your reasonings. This is just one of those weird human things of yours that he figures he will never understand, no matter how many questions he asks.

Homelander decides to stay quiet for a while, simply observing as you go about your activities. Seeing you run around this confined space, pointlessly catching more bugs and fish. Listening to you tell him which animal villagers are your favourites, showing him your house and how you decorated every room.

Strangely, the longer he watches you play, the more relaxed he starts to feel. It's weird, seeing your miniature caricature of him running around this fake town. He's just spending his days trapped in this virtual world, living in a quaint house with a white-picket fence, surrounded by friendly neighbours… without anybody staring at him like he's a freak… without a care in the world.

He's living the life Homelander always wished he could.

"Do you think we could ever live in a place like this?" he contemplates in a somber voice. The genuineness of his thought takes you by surprise.

To be honest, you don't have an answer for him. Vought has such a tight grip on every aspect of his life, you aren't sure if he'll ever be able to be free of their influence. He's never known what it's like to be 'normal', his entire existence has been dictated for him, his every opinion pre-calculated for what's best for the company.

"Hey, why don't we spend the weekend at your cabin?" you suggest, trying to pivot the heavy conversation away to something more tangible. You put your game down to caress his cheek, feeling him angle his head into your touch. "Just the two of us, no schedules or worries."

You can feel a little smile spread across your shoulder at your proposal. Homelander tightens his hold on you ever so slightly, cherishing the feeling of your small stature in his arms. He's glad you aren't able to see his face right now, letting him hide the fact that he's blinking away forming tears.

"Yeah," he whispers. "I'd like that".

Lilia: Ooh, that painting over there is of the Thorn Fairy's men!

???: The Thorn Fairy's men, huh… Were they really that strong?

Lilia: Epel, so you were checking out this painting too. Are you curious about them?

Epel: Ah, yes! I was thinking they're rather head-empty lookin'… I mean, they look real sweet!

Lilia: Mhm, they are adorable. And despite that, they would always be carrying their weapons so as to respond to the Thorn Fairy's whims immediately.

Lilia: That means they must have been wonderfully loyal and brave soldiers.

Epel: I see… They don't really look like it, but when you put it that way, I can kinda see how cool they are, I guess?

Lilia: Right, right? And it just goes to show how great the Thorn Fairy was to be able to command such men.

Epel: Aren't they just following her because they've pledged loyalty to her?

Lilia: You should take a good look at this picture. See how they're all just filled with character?

Lilia: It's actually extremely difficult to folks like them in line. Isn't it the same with the students in our school?

Lilia: Everyone's so self-confident, they just do as they please. Those that actually listen to others, or follow orders are actually in the minority.

Epel: Ahaha… I'm getting what you're saying, I think.

Epel: Now I wonder how the Thorn Fairy was able to keep her men in line, then.

Lilia: Kufufu… You're a student of Night Raven College, you should already understand.

Lilia: You get them to understand just who is in charge by a show of force! It's the simplest method.

Epel: True… So that basically means that her men followed her because she was super strong.

Lilia: Mhm. But even so, a show of force won't be able to garner true loyalty.

Lilia: The most important thing when leading a legion is to build a trusting relationship with your men.

Lilia: Trust can't just be achieved overnight. I'm sure the Thorn Fairy put in a lot of effort to get to this point, too.

Epel: "Build a trusting relationship," huh… How would you do it if it was you, Lilia-san?

Lilia: I've actually served meals to the other Diasomnia students, hand-made by me.

Lilia: Everyone was so moved that they were utterly speechless. They couldn't even bring themselves to touch it.

Lilia: When they finally ate it, there was a whole range of reactions, including some who laid themselves out on the dining table, or those who covered their face with their hands. There were some who even burst into tears.

Epel: Wow, your cooking must be amazing!

Lilia: Mhm! Once I set my hand to it, I can make any petulant kid fall in line.

Lilia: Ever since then, I've tried to make more home-cooked meals to try to deepen the relationship between our dormmates…

Lilia: But they would all band together, saying they don't want to trouble me. They're all such humble boys.

Epel: Does that mean… I could be strong and burly on the internet, too!?

Lilia: But that is just a whole different hassle to deal with. Sounds like there's no end to the amount of equipment you might end up needing for it

Lilia: I keep thinking I'll ask my online gaming buddies who might know more about it, but I get so absorbed by our quest that I keep forgetting.

Lilia: I'd sure love it if I got super popular and was drowning in likes, subscribes, and superchats.

Epel: I don't really get it, but… I think it's fun to think about becoming someone you really want to be!

Lilia: Right? Although, I do have a wonderful voice, you know… It could be a terrible shame to hide it with a voice changer.

Lilia: And if I'm going to use my velvet voice, I guess my avatar should be good-looking to fit…

Epel: In the Shaftlands, there is a well-known story about how the Fairest Queen donned a disguise in order to hide her identity.

Epel: I think Vil-san was saying that there's actually a lot of different interpretations for why, but…

Epel: I wonder why the Fairest Queen chose to disguise herself as an old woman?

Epel: If she was just trying to hide her identity, she could have also just chosen a cool and ripped figure…

Lilia: Perhaps she didn't want to frighten the princess. A muscular physique can be overpowering sometimes…

Lilia: And if she is too beautiful, she would also be difficult to approach. So, maybe that's why she thought an old woman would be a good choice?

Epel: Hmmm. I never even thought about how it'd be hard to approach someone because they're "too beautiful."

Lilia: Well, that makes sense for you. Nevertheless, human thought process is both inconsistent and interesting.

Lilia: To tell you the truth, even I had a time in my life where which people would only stare from a safe distance…

Lilia: But then during my travels, sometimes I would get random freebies at markets by people who thought me just a "cute little boy."

Lilia: That's when I realized for the first time, that I AM SUPER CUTE!!

Lilia: Ever since then, I've made it a point to share my cute charm with everyone as much as possible.

Lilia: I'd get things like free carriage rides, or steep discounts while shopping… You do it too, don't you, Epel?

Epel: I don't!! Although, yeah, I have gotten free snacks while running errands before, sure, but…

Lilia: So you're able to reap the benefits without actually showing off…! Mhm, I still have much to learn.

Lilia: But don't count me out yet. Like, even after enrolling at Night Raven College…

Lilia: I'd have classmates who'd save me a seat in the cafeteria, or carry heavy luggage for me…

Lilia: Everyone was just fawning over me ☆

Epel: That's… Aren't they just mocking you, though!? It's like they're looking down on you, I'd never let that pass.

Lilia: Kufufu, you still have a lot to learn, too. There's no harm in using what's available to you.

Lilia: But that is all old news, anyway. The longer I've spent time on campus, the more people have learned the extent of my abilities.

Lilia: There were times that I've completely shut down students from other dorms who lazily tried to pick fights with me, too…

Lilia: By the next semester, everyone was treating me completely different.

Lilia: Now, I'm stuck as "Reliable Lilia-san." And I really just wanted to settle into the role as the "Cute Little Brother."

Epel: That means they all recognized you for your abilities, right? Lilia-san, you're so cool!

Lilia: Kufufu, my cuteness is supposed to be my selling point, but I guess it's not bad to be called cool, neither.

Epel: No way, being cool is much better! It's great to hear a story like that of what could be.

What is Generation Loss: Unperson?

Unperson is a Generation Loss AU written, illustrated, and narrated by yours truly!

The story begins as canon-adjacent to Generation 1 (the first chapter, Savior's Stigmata, is technically a prologue, in that it takes place during the events of episode three of The Social Experiments). In chapters 2 and onwards, the cast of TSE begin an adventure anew.

Showfall Media has revolutionized the field of interactive entertainment. In Hetch's Social Experiments, this entertainment took the form of three consecutive livestreams, which the audience could actively participate in and, ultimately, decide the fate of the Hero [i.e. Generation 1 of Generation Loss]. Now, Showfall Media is proud to bring you entertainment through an even more immersive medium: video games.

Anathema Annihilation is Showfall's most innovative use of "Phantoptics" technology to date: a video game where one's choices really matter and actively impact the world we live in.

Charlie awakens in a new environment and with a new purpose as the face of the beta tester's Hero avatar. Elsewhere, Ranboo has been revived, reprogrammed, and repurposed with a new face of his own: a biomechanical, bestial antagonist known as "The Devourer".

The player character - the Hero (who we know to be Charlie) - joins forces with a helpful non-player Companion (Sneeg) to eliminate a wide range of enemies - known as "Anathemas" - across multiple levels, each culminating with a fight against a powerful boss: an "Abomination".

Depending on the player's Variant choice, the theme (and therefore appearance and ability mechanics) of the Anathemas, as well as the Hero and Companion classses, changes.

Regardless of the player's Variant choice, however, the Abominations always remain the same: previous cast members who have been previously rejected by an audience and have been revived and repurposed as biomechanical monstrosities.

As the Hero and Companion progress through the levels of Anathema Annihilation, their minds become increasingly plagued by questions concerning their memories, free will, and grasp of reality. But they are not the only ones cursed with introspection; the Devouerer, too, clings desperately on to whatever shreds of humanity it still possesses, and seeks, above all else, to avenge its friends.

One thing I love about video games above all other mediums is the ability to immerse into the experience.

I once saw a post about Disco Elysium, a story that begins with a human disaster recovering from the bender of a lifetime. The game will let you indulge in all forms of drugs and there's no detriment in gameplay for it spare for the fact it can be noticed and observed by your in-game partner and negatively impact his opinion. The game has an addiction system that is entirely based on giving you a choice that seems attractive and letting you pick it.

I never interacted with the drugs in Disco Elysium. I wanted my Harry to be clean. The game does not praise me for this, mind. As far as the fiction is concerned Harry has been clean for 2 weeks maximum and has had relapses before. I made the entire experience more difficult for myself by denying stat upgrades because I wanted to play a version of the character who is trying to get better.

In Metal Gear Solid V, a game which does not in any way shape or form involve roleplaying mechanics, I have a Venom who starts off as Big Boss but over the course of the experience his (our IRL) skill ceiling forces him to start giving up the perfect stealth/no-kill facade. The game does not punish you for it (S-Ranks do not require No Kill or Perfect Stealth) and I am simply not a good enough player to get through A Quiet Exit without bursting out the rocket launcher.

In a game like Celeste, the narrative is about climbing an impossible mountain that weens a player in on the experience one screen at a time. It is the most forgiving video game I have ever played. It urges a player to keep trying. To take their time. Take as many tries as they like. What was once a level that took 40 deaths to get through becomes a level where I collect Golden Strawberries. The grind that Madeline makes becomes the grind that the player takes and you share the experience (doubly so if you play while on HRT. Triple if also going through therapy for DID).

It's one thing for the "Intended Experience" mingling with player experience. Sometimes a game that you can only interact with violence will call you out for only interacting via violence. But when a game pulls you in so heavily that you and the character are acting in unison and your decisions are made not for mechanical reasons, not because the game guides you down a path, not because it is the most effective way of playing? But because it is the experience that you are creating for yourself and it belongs to you and you alone?

Oh that's the sweet spot.

Our climb up Mount Celeste is as unique to me as our gender transition is. Our decision to reject the title of Big Boss and become Venom Snake was our own. Our refusal to dose as Harry was ours.

In essence it's no different than selecting the top route or the bottom route in a Sonic game. One is more difficult, one has access to a special stage, one is faster, one is an area we've not explored in a while, one has more rings... the list of variables is vast but they all contribute to a decision that is made in the moment and on the fly.

But gosh, when the choice is filtered through my in game avatar? Fuck it just hits right.

Hello...Do you mind if I ask your top 5 (or top 10) favorite moments from any media that you love (books, anime/manga, tv series, movies, games, etc)? Thanks if you want to answer. Sorry if I ask too much....

That's such a fun question!

And definitely one that's difficult to answer... But let me see what I can come up with.

*These are not in order of favorite, just in the order I thought of them.*

1- Agni Kai ("Avatar the Last Airbender") This one is just a literal masterpiece. The visuals, the action, the music, the lack of dialogue, the show of character in their fighting... Literally mesmerizing.

2- Eri smiling ("My Hero Academia") She is the sweetest little girl and watching her smile as the darkness washes away from her after everything she was put through...it makes me cry.

3- Nadiya winning "The Great British Baking Show" I love Nadiya, and it was such an emotional moment to see her talk about how she would never doubt herself again, you could see how hard she was on herself and how much she didn't believe she could do something like this - and it was just so encouraging to see all her hard work pay off.

4- Kars for Kids ("The Good Place") We had to pause the episode to let me finish laughing because this caught me so off guard. Especially because it feels like an inside joke, almost. Like either you don't know what they're talking about with that song, or you are like YES THAT IS THE THEME SONG OF HELL.

5- I Want it That Way ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine") It's just brilliant. It's so funny, and no matter how many times I watch it, it always makes me laugh.

6- Rooftop scene between Daredevil and Punisher ("Daredevil") This scene always stood out to me because it didn't resolve with either character caving into the other's beliefs. I was so used to scenes always having a resolution, so this one was captivating because it was some of the best and most realistic dialogue I remember watching at the time.

7- Poison ("Hazbin Hotel") All I will say is that this was so hard to watch, and that was the point. Whoever worked on this did such an amazing job in conveying the situation from a place of understanding and not just for shock value.

8- Bad Wolf Rose ("Doctor Who") This moment always stuck with me because it showed what humans were capable of. And the fact that all her lines were spoken in a very soft, gentle tone made it all the more powerful.

9- Dracarys ("Game of Thrones") This moment I liked because it was just sheer comeuppance and satisfaction. I also was working retail at the time, and this had such "I AM the manager" vibes lol.

10- Riza Hawkeye shooting ("Full Metal Alchemist") She's such a good character, and she was usually so stoic and in control of any situation - until she thought the man she (at least in my mind) loved was dead, and she just absolutely lost it.

There are some shows/movies where I liked too many moments that it's safer to say I just like the thing as a whole, and no one moment stuck out too much. And I left books off the list so I could add a gif/video to this post.

I know that the minute I post this, I will think of many more moments, but I'm trying not to overthink this or I'll be here forever lol

I generally like moments of big emotion. Or at least moments that make me feel things - good or bad.

Everybody who follows me already knows that The Dragon Prince is my favorite TV show in the whole world. Created for Netflix by Aaron Ehasz (an alumnus of Avatar: the Last Airbender) and Justin Richmond, it's an epic fantasy series that kicks off with a trio of plucky protagonists who are determined to return an egg kidnapped from the dragon queen by a dark mage, because the kidnapping of the dragon prince (hey! the title!) puts the entire world at risk of war.

One of the fundamental themes is exploring the cycle of violence and abuse, and how that cycle can only be broken when people commit to it wholeheartedly. It also shows that, even when someone wants to break the cycle, there are others who are invested in continuing it, and peace takes incredible and painful work.

The worldbuilding is phenomenal, the character and creature design is incredible, the story is gripping, and the writing is...*chef's kiss.* Every season is better than the last, and the increase in animation quality across the years is unreal. Season six was utterly ethereal.

Phase one of the series spanned seasons one to three, and we are currently in the final stretch of arc two ("Mystery of Aaravos"), encompassing seasons four to seven. Season six just dropped, and according to the official Instagram account, it's been #1 on Netflix for the past five days! That's really great news, because they're trying really hard to get greenlit for arc three--so now is a really, really great time to get into the show! You want to do it, you want to do it so bad. Use the hashtags #TheDragonPrince, #ContinueTheSaga, and #GiveUsTheSaga if you do! Please, for the love of fuck! 😭😭😭

Currently there are six seasons of the tv show, several books (including novelizations, original comics, and art book, and in-universe guides), a tabletop roleplaying game, a board game, and a brand-new video game that launched this week. This world is huge, and it's so fun to explore!

As far as why I'm recommending it as a queer show, there are so many queer characters. The show prompted some griping early on because it had a pair of tragically dead lesbian queens, but in the seasons since, they've introduced a gloriously alive lesbian battle couple who get married on-screen, a married pair of gay men, three different trans characters (one of whom joins the main cast in season 4 and remains a major character), and a general lovely air of casual queerness in a high fantasy setting. The tabletop roleplaying game has multiple canon queer characters, too, and the show's cast and crew have made it clear that they have queer people among them, they fully support queer people in the fandom, and they want to include queerness in their world. It's awesome.

(And I'm still sticking with "when one man looks at another man and says 'our baby was so cute,' that's canon enough for me." So there's some fantastic queer villainy that's, like, the perfect icing on the cake for me personally. The Dragon Prince: for all your unholy dark magic mpreg bug baby needs!)

Also, this show has my poorest, saddest, littlest, wettest meow-meow babygirl of all fucking time: Lord Viren, (former) High Mage of Katolis, the most turbo-divorced man in all existence. If you follow me, you've seen that motherfucker. You know who he is. You have seen his sad miserable little face. You know who I am and what I'm here for. This paragraph is not a surprise to you. You know.

Funny thing happened on one of my TikTok videos where I was drawing and talking about fairly odd parents; my fairy Timmy au; and Nicktoons unite

And I had a comment on one of them

With that crying emoji with it and I responded that yeah it does like I was surprised someone would ask like that being as Danny phantom was one of nicktoons most popular cartoons along with fairly odd parents invader zim; Jimmy neutron and SpongeBob for quite awhile until well Nickelodeon made SpongeBob their golden child out of its cartoons and devoted all it’s attention to it ignoring it’s other cartoons series (it kinda reflects in the nicktoons unite games because when those games started you could see they tried to include all the most popular cartoons main characters as it’s focused but as the game started to hit the end of their run the games got more and more focused on making SpongeBob the main focus witch is kinda sad they went that way)

Like I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and grew up in Australia 🇦🇺 so not all the nicktoons shows or games made it to here or were not advertised much other here ( also like most Australian families didn’t have foxtel networks like Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon; like in mine it was enithr have internet cable or tv cable and we went with having internet cable so would end up watching Danny phantom on YouTube as well as watching others game play of nicktoons unite games on there as well; think I enjoyed watching the cut scenes most)

So my guess that commenter didn’t really get to see Danny phantom cartoons ever being as here in Australia most of us got to watch Nickelodeon cartoons through abc kids channel here a lot of fairly odd parents cartoons made it on there and I think jimmy Timmy power hour made it onto there

(I was obsessed with cartoons as a kid and became obsessed with anime as a teenager; those both became a hyperfixtion for my adhd brain and I can tell you kid and teenager me REALLY hated those reality TV shows that got into way of cartoons/ anime I wanted to watch

I hated those sidcoms that were not cartoons because they stated to replace cartoons I enjoyed on other free to air channels here in Australia

Think I wasn’t the only kid who hated those I remember abc kids network asking it’s kid fans what they wanted on the network and a lot were asking for anime content so not many wanted those sitcoms)

So my guess is they only knew a handful of the nicktoons because probably only got to see only a handful of the cartoons from where they were from (what I do know Australia got SpongeBob on channel 10 network in the mornings I believe; not sure wasn’t as into SpongeBob as many others were I was more into fairly odd parents; invader zim; a very beavers cat dog Rugrats and Aaaahhh! Real monsters!

Ok now that I think about it it was abc kids and channel ten that would air Nickelodeon cartoons/shows to Australian audiences one would do mornings or Saturday mornings while the other would do afternoons after school

You had to get the times just right to watch your favourite shows

And I know jimmy neutron did well here because his movie did make it here as did fairly odd parents because that ended up showing until like seasons 6-7 on abc kids in afternoons then just stopped so kids knew about those cartoons heck avatar last air bender ended up on that network as well for a time but the thing was invader Zim and Danny phantom didn’t end up on either of those free to air tv; you had to watch on YouTube or a friend would have dvd box set of the show and you could watch it from them (that’s how as a teenager I got to see invader zim and Danny phantom I had to go to YouTube for that)

So maybe that’s why half don’t understand Danny’s family/ friends got his back while many misunderstood how Timmy’s life truly sucked for him or why he needed Wanda & Cosmo

They may not of gotten many episodes to go off on and maybe what other fans have told them or maybe I’m overthinking things

Seven Stupid Reasons to Summon a Demon

Reason #3: can't beat a boss

You died. 

Again. 

Those mocking words appeared on the screen of your monitor for what was probably the hundredth time since you started playing this stupid game. You wouldn't exactly call yourself a Gamer™️ or anything but surely you could hold your own in a silly little video game. And this silly little video game was getting on your last nerve… 

To be honest, it wasn't the type of game you would usually get into but your favorite otaku shut-in has been going off about it non-stop since it got announced. You were certain he had already got his hands on a copy by now and was probably already an expert, but you wanted to get far enough into the game so that you could get what he was talking about the next time you hung out. 

It was the perfect plan… 

If this game wasn't so freaking hard!! After spending almost 2 hours on the character creation screen, getting your avatar juuust right, you set off exploring the game. And, boy, was there a lot for you to explore. Open world games have really found their moment recently and this game was no exception. 

After ignoring most of the tutorial, telling yourself that you can figure it out (mistake number 1), you promptly forgot where it was you were supposed to go or who you were supposed to talk to. It’ll be fine, you said (mistake number 2) and kept wandering without a care in the world.

You were having a grand old time foraging for materials, crafting items, and making food when you suddenly found yourself face to face with a radiant being of impressive stature. You stood in awe at first, expecting some kind of cutscene; this creature looked important to the lore SOMEHOW, you just knew it. 

What you didn’t expect was for the creature to raise its mighty sword twice your size and strike you down with one blow.

You were so hurt by the game’s betrayal, you didn't pick the game back up for a couple of days.

Fast forward to now, you decided to try your best to beat that righteous jerk's ass! Each failure only made you more and more determined to beat her but your patience was wearing thin. Whoever said games are better when they’re harder to beat should be forced to play in their video game avatar's shoes! 

You stop for a second and chuckle at the thought. If this were a game from the Devildom, they probably would be playing in their avatar’s shoes. Then, they would eat those words. 

After another failed attempt, you are just about ready to throw your controller across the room… but you don’t, because it's expensive and you don't have the kind of money to just destroy it on a whim.

One more time, you tell yourself one more chance, then you'll bring out the big guns. 

You take a deep breath to center yourself in the moment. You take on the celestial sonuvabitch one more time, ready to put up a good fight. You get so close to lowering that red bar, closer than you ever had before. 

You stand up out of your chair with excitement. 

This is it, this is the one, you can feel it.

One more hit and the red bar goes down completely. You watch as the character falls, body crumpling to the ground and you throw up your hands in triumph! 

"YEEEAAHHHAHA!!!" You shout, absolutely ecstatic! 

Then suddenly the screen is awash in a white light, and the character you just spent how many hours beating starts to rise. You hold your breath, unsure of what is going on. A single beam of light shoots out of their lifeless form, hitting your character so quickly, you don't have time to react. Your health was so low that one hit with that beam was all it took for you to see those dreaded, familiar words pop up on screen once more. 

You died. 

You scream. 

You carefully but forcefully throw the controller into the beanbag chair across your room and fly over to your bookshelf, frantically looking for that friggin’ script. You use it so often, you almost never put it down in the same place twice. Cursing yourself when you can’t find it on the shelf, you start tearing your room apart. 

Your cat bolts from its peaceful sleeping spot on your bed when you toss the comforter over your head. Why would it even be in here?? You don’t know but you look anyway. Maybe it fell? 

You flatten yourself to the floor and look under your bed. Using your phone’s flashlight, you spot it at the far end, slumped against the wall. Your temper rising, you crawl underneath the bed and grasp at those damn pages. 

You don’t even pull yourself out from underneath before you close your eyes and start concentrating, thinking, “LEVI! I NEED YOU!” 

You open one eye in time to see an orange light reach a little ways under the bed and you feel a presence standing in the room behind you. You don’t even think about the state your room is in or how this must look to Levi when you hear him say, “M- MC?? Where are you??”

He’s concerned, maybe on the verge of panicking but you are so frustrated, you just start yelling, still under the bed. The image of your feet sticking out from beneath your bed and your muffled screaming would’ve been hilarious if you weren’t so in your own head. 

Levi, not knowing what else to do, panics and transforms. You know this because you can smell the faint scent of brimstone that accompanies said transformation. You feel his scaly tail wrap around your ankle and pull you out from under the bed. He’s crouching down beside you, hands hovering over you, unsure if you’re injured or not. 

“MC, what happened in here? Are you ok??” The concern in his voice makes you feel a bit guilty for worrying him so much over something so trivial. 

You take a deep breath and sigh, flipping around to face him with his tail still wrapped snugly around your ankle. 

“Levi…” You look into his eyes and see the worry. It tugs at something inside you and you sigh again, “the game is too hard.” 

At first, he just stares at you, not quite sure he heard you. 

“Wait, what?? Game?” 

You throw your arm dramatically over your eyes and gesture to your computer. He looks up to it and sees your final death screen. 

He exhales something between a scoff and a laugh. His shoulders slump and he covers his face with his hand. He de-transforms once he knows there is no real danger. 

“I really thought something happened to you, normie.” 

You bristle at the nickname, “Hey!” 

He looks at you from between his fingers. “You called me here because you can’t beat a video game, I think I can call you a normie in this specific situation.” 

You cross your arms and pout, still lying on the floor. “I’m sorry I worried you but this game is driving me insane.” 

He looks around the room at the mess you made. “I can see that…” He gets up and hesitantly extends his hand to help you get up. 

You make a note of how much better at initiating physical contact he’s gotten and smile despite your sour mood. You grab his hand firmly and use him as a counterweight to tug yourself off of the floor. 

You let your hand linger in his while you stand in front of him, not saying anything. He doesn’t seem to mind but you can feel the tension rise as the silence continues. Finally, you let yourself fall slightly forward and rest your forehead against his chest. 

You feel him stiffen. “W-what were you even doing playing that game anyway?” He asks. He turns his head to look at your computer monitor again, “And taking on one of the hardest bosses in the game, no less.”

“I was trying to beat the game so I would know what you were going on about when you inevitably rambled about it for hours the next time we hung out! I know how hyped you were for it…” 

“You know that game is notorious for being very hard to beat, right?” 

“YEAH WELL, I thought I could get far enough to at least keep up with you,” you pause. 

Levi senses you still have more to say and lets you continue. “I like to hear you talk about stuff I know nothing about, I think it's fun… But I see how much happier you are when I do know what you're talking about… I like sharing my interests with you too… it makes me feel closer to you.” 

You feel Levi rub your hand with his thumb. “You did,” now it’s his turn to hesitate, “all this…” he looks around at the mess you made of your room, “because of me?” Without lifting your head from his chest, you look too. 

“Well, I’ll admit this reaction is a little bit dramatic…” Your face flushes with embarrassment. With your head still pressed against his chest, you can feel the beginning vibrations of Levi's closed-mouth chuckle. 

You look up at him and see his face, smiling uninhibitedly. Now, that's a sight that gives you life. With no hand covering his face to hide how pink he is, cheeks dimpled from smiling so big, eyes crinkled, and eyelashes wet with tears. He starts laughing harder and his mirth is contagious. 

You start giggling until you start cackling ungraciously. You rest your head on his shoulder once more and try to calm yourself, saying “I can only imagine how ridiculous I must’ve looked under the bed.” 

He keeps laughing, “Yeah, what was that?” 

"Your script fell back there, I don't know why!!" You didn’t notice in your laughing fit that his arms have now circled your waist but when you do, you quietly slip your arms around him too. 

You look back up to him and he quickly averts his eyes, cheeks now burning a bright red. You smile knowingly and look back at the mess. 

"I- I guess I can help you clean up a little," he says, looking around again. His gaze settles back to your computer, "Then we’ll see what we can do about… that…"

Your arms tighten around his middle and you press your cheek to his chest. "Thank you, thank you, thank yoooooou." He stiffens again but quickly relaxes in the embrace. He pats you on the shoulder a few times and you (reluctantly) pull away from him. You put your hands on your hips. 

"Well, better get started!" 

He helps you get your stuff rearranged and back on your shelves, as well as fix your comforter and stuffed toys that were tossed all over the place. You grab the controller from the beanbag and apologize to it, giving it a little kiss. Levi shakes his head and smiles. 

After getting the room back to the state it was before the… incident… Levi stretches his arms above his head and cracks his knuckles. You roll your eyes and hand him the controller. You connect your computer to your bigger TV screen so you can both sit on your bed while you watch him play.  You lounge while he sits up with his legs criss-cross applesauce. 

“How long have you been at this?” he gestures to the TV with a nod. 

You flatten your face to the mattress and groan. “I started a couple of days ago when I met… her.” You lift your head and hold your chin in your hand. “I've been working on her ever since.” 

“Why didn't you just move on to the rest of the game? I can see you aren't very high level, you ever heard of grinding?” 

You blow raspberries dismissively. “Grinding is so boring. I was sooooo close to beating her with sheer determination alone, but now I see that she has a-” 

“Second form,” you both say in unison. 

You groan and Levi nods knowingly. His eyes don't leave the screen as the conversation continues. 

“Honestly, that’s pretty impressive… For a normie to get as far as you did in her fight.”

There’s that name (derogatory) again… You’re about to say something when you watch as he turns your little avatar around, in the opposite direction of the boss. 

“Hey! Where are you going?”

“Just because you spent hours fighting her doesn’t mean I have to. I'm gonna level you up.” 

“Well, that just means I’m better than you.” You smile smugly at him and he scoffs.

“More like you're just a masochist! Why would you make it so much harder for yourself?” 

“Oh, I’m the masochist here?” You scoot closer to him and wiggle your eyebrows at him. 

His eyes widen and his face flushes red instantly. He scoots away from you. “Nope, I am NOT going to acknowledge that comment. We’re moving on.”

“But-” You scoot closer.

“MOVING ON!” You see the controller tremble in his hands just a little.

You laugh, “Oh, Leviachan, I’m sorry! It’s just so easy to tease you!” You rest your head on his lap and look back up at the screen. You watch as a blue light erupts underneath your avatar and suddenly you have a horse! 

You shoot up and say, “Where’d you get that horse??”

Your unexpected movement startles Levi and he jumps, nearly dropping the controller. “What??? You haven’t been using your horse??”

“I didn’t know you got a horse!!”

“Next, you're gonna tell me you didn't use your shield in that whole fight.”

You don’t say anything.

“You did use your shield, right?”

You look away and say nothing. 

Now, he actually pauses the game. “MC…”

You turn back to him, with all the pain evident on your face. “What button is that?” Your voice trembles.

He puts the controller down and steeples his fingers in front of his face, covering his nose and mouth, concern evident on his face. 

“You really are a normie…” he whispers to himself but loud enough for you to still hear him very clearly.

“HEY!!” You lean back and start pelting Levi with your stuffed animals, “Ok that’s it, you take that back!” 

Levi laughs, guarding and blocking all your attacks, “Hey, we just cleaned this place!”

“I’m not a Gamer™️ but that doesn’t make me a normie, ok!?”

“How’d you make that sound with your mouth?”

“Take it back!” Out of ammunition, you lunge for him and start shaking him back and forth. “Take it back!! Take it back!!!”

“Alright, alright! You’re not a normie! But you are a filthy casual.”

You grip his jacket tightly and squint at him. “Ffffffine…” you manage to say through gritted teeth. 

You both settle and get back to the game. Levi insists on doing everything again from the beginning (“What do you mean you skipped through the tutorial? How’d you even do that??”). You excitedly show him how you had painstakingly recreated Henry as your avatar and you could swear his eyes are sparkling with unshed tears. He wants to show you all the easter eggs and foreshadowing and lore in every nook and every cranny so you know it’s gonna be a long night. It’s around 3 AM when, with you sitting between his legs, his arms around your middle and chin resting on your shoulder, he notices you’re starting to doze. You protest sleepily, saying he didn’t even get to fight the boss yet.

You don’t remember much after that but you do wake up the next day with all your stuffed animals back where they should be and a sticky note on your game controller that says, “G3T G00D, SCRUB!”

You snatch the note off of the controller and crumple it in your hand, smiling ruefully. 

Where’s that script? You’ll show him who’s a scrub…
