CHARACTERS

There’s so much eye candy it’s unreal.

(There are more characters ofc. I just can’t fit them all here but trust me. Or don’t trust me and look them all up!!)

Even the mcs are hot

Which speaking of MCs…

You’re able to switch from female to male Rover at any time you want!! There’s just a limit of one switch per every 24 hrs.

Also they actually talk a decent amount during dialogue cut scenes which makes things more interesting imo. I like their voice actors and enjoy hearing them!

EXPLORATION

Exploration is so damn fun and efficient!! You have unlimited stamina except for climbing, swimming, gliding and during battles. But when running around you can run forever without losing stamina.

Also climbing is so quick and easy. You basically run up the walls. And you know when you’re climbing in genshin and you get stuck bc there’s a ledge? Yeah that’s not an issue in wuwa bc the characters lift and swing over ledges like that.

The scenery is so beautiful.

There are also quite a lot of helpful devices that every character has access to at all times. Like the grappling hook, which is similar to genshin sumeru grappling hooks except there’s no limit to how far away you have to be to use it. Makes it faster to use when exploring.

YOU CAN FLY IN ONE OF THE REGIONS. like actually fly and very quickly too. It’s super fun.

Additionally, each region in a nation has different categories that make up its exploration and it will tell you how much of each you’ve completed. This makes it easy to complete exploration bc you can see what you’re missing and focus on that.

FIGHTING/BATTLES

Boss battles are so unique and fun. It’s very out of the box and unexpected and I’ve never had more fun fighting bosses then I have in wuwa.

The play styles between each character differed a whole lot and each and every one is so damn cool.

Not only do you have the ability to dodge and counterattack, but you can also parry. There are other opportunities to do more than normal damage during battles as well. You have the regular attack, enhanced skill attack, and then special skill attack like in other games such as genshin and hsr. But you also have an echo attack and intro/outro attack when you switch characters in battle.

WISHING

It’s very easy to collect astrite!! Astrite is the equivalent of primogems/stellar jade. The game is very generous and when it comes to wishing, it is very kind when pulling for your fave characters.

COMPANION STORIES

Companion stories are super fun. Sometimes the game style changes to a 2d view (think Mario bros) in certain domains for companion stories and it’s such a fun little twist.

MISCELLANEOUS

YOU CAN SKIP DIALOGUE!!! Dialogue can be skipped for any and every quest. For more important quests, they will give you a summary for the dialogue you’re about to skip. But for simple side quests, they will just skip the dialogue w/o a summary. This makes gameplay so much more efficient bc I hate when there’s too much dialogue.

There are tactical hologram enemies that are essentially pre-existing bosses that are made to be more difficult and have about six or seven versions. Each version is more difficult than the last and provide a fun challenge when it comes to fighting. Bc sometimes the game can feel a bit too easy when you level up your characters, but these holograms make you plan and rethink strategies when it comes to battling.

This is your travel companion. Look at how cute he is!!!

Your characters will heal not only at the bigger teleportation spots (the ones that unlock the map) but at ALL the teleportation spots. Makes it very convenient.

Did I mention that the characters are really hot?

Oreo - Tycoon - The goal is to get rid of the cards in your hands in order from lowest to highest. The players are labelled as Tycoon, Rich, Poor, and Beggar depending on how quickly they get rid of their cards. Whoever gets the most points in the end wins.

Leroy - Soixante-Trois - Each person pulls a card from the deck and plays it face down, saying what the card is. The person can lie or tell the truth. The goal is to not go over 63. When someone decides to pass (not play a card), they tally the results. If it's over 63, the person that didn't play wins. If it's under, that person loses.

Keith - Rap battle and Spit - Prefers his rap battles, but card game Spit is fun too. You have to get rid of your deck as fast as possible into 1 of 2 piles. Once you run out, you quickly grab the pile with the least amount of cards. If no card can be played, each player places a card from their deck. The winner is whoever gets rid of their cards

Cherri - Escape room - Each room is different. Solve various puzzles in a particular order to escape. Some areas have booby traps, and it's all timed.

Amelia - 21 - a simple card game: dealer deals out cards. Don't go over the value of 21.

Naomi - Daredevil - Each person gives each other a dare the other must do. The dares cannot be deadly, but they can cause bodily harm. The dares must also be something both/all players can do. If the person denies it, and the one who gave the dare does it, they're the winner. If nobody does the dare, the game continues.

Pachinko - Brawl - A classic battle between strength and abilities. The person to tap out, get knocked unconscious, or runs away is the loser

Pico - Rock Paper Scissors "Shoot" - Russian Roulette with a twist. Each player plays Rock Paper Scissors. Whoever loses has to shoot themselves with the gun. If blank, the game continues. The gun starts off with one bullet, then adds another bullet after 3 blanks. (The person is healed/rezzed if shot)

Tsuri - Memory - A simple memory game of cards. If a player finds a pair, they can keep going until they mess up or if they want to pass it to the other player. The one who makes the most pairs wins.

Keno - Hide n Seek - You hide, he hunts. Traverse the environment, find the key to the exit, and don't get caught.

Otis - Chess - Basic game of chess. Checkmate and win. (I suck at understanding and playing chess so uhhh yeah no explanation here lol)

Kurai - Road of Phobias and Dice - For challenges, you go through various phobias you and the general may have. Reach the end and you win. For gaming, make a bet. Put 2 dice in a cup, shake it around, and slam it down. The one with the lowest total wins the bet

i really don’t think it’s “typical dragon age fandom nonsense” for people to be genuinely upset about the world state choices. combat, level design, art direction, gameplay gimmicks, those have all varied across each dragon age game. the one thing that’s remained constant are nods to our previous choices.

i wasn’t expecting my HoF to come riding in on a griffon, but i can’t find a monument dedicated to warden tabris somewhere around the anderfels? lucanis couldn’t have some lines about the time that one arainai boy was stirring up trouble in antiva city? you’re gonna tell me that making a mage the new divine wouldn’t have some impact on nevarra and antiva? on the anderfels, the supposed most devout militant andrastian nation in thedas? you’re saying nobody in the north is paying attention to who rules orlais or ferelden? come on.

Really fucked up that, when they’re young, Patrick and Art are SO tactile with each other, so comfortable sharing the same space. Art lets Patrick touch him and move him and physically overwhelm him and easily acquiesces to it, if not outright enjoys it.

Then in the present, they’ve been so far out of each other’s orbit for so long, held such animosity that when they have their moment alone in the sauna, Art physically recoils from Patrick’s close proximity! It’s so painful to watch because even as Patrick’s goading him, it’s so obvious he wants to be able to get back into Art’s space. But Art has erected all these walls around himself, he refuses to give Patrick an inch or even admit to missing how close they used to be!

AND THEN we see Art and Tashi later and he wants her to hold him, to be gentle with him, and just TOUCH him. Like, he does miss that kind of close physical contact! He either doesn’t know how to ask for it or is uncomfortable being that openly vulnerable. Worth noting that he pretty much always defers to Tashi in regard to initiating physical intimacy (with their first kiss, though he does state his desire, SHE has to be the one to make the first move). And it seems pretty obvious that Tashi herself isn’t comfortable providing that intimacy, whereas Patrick actively seeks to provide it (the hug/forehead kiss after their win together in the early years, dragging the stool closer to him).

Art has tried very hard to act like he doesn’t need physical affection and even though his discipline and devotion to Tashi has made him a stronger tennis player, it’s made him a hollow person, which, in turn, has kept him from becoming a GREAT tennis player.

All of this, of course, is why the ending hits so damn hard.

why do you hate Joshua Graham or Honest Hearts so much?

This DLC and character represents a bigger issue with fandom spaces I have but particularly fallout fandom in general.

Fallout tends to tackle a lot of topics controversial and not. The first two games it’s heavy cause they are the most satirical and direct with how anti-war, nationalism and etc… they are. 3 loses this as it’s very clear once you play or learn about all the games that Todd and a bunch of guys at Bethesda just liked the 50s post apocalyptic aesthetic and refuse to actually critique the ideals of the time period like the earlier titles.

New Vegas is the game that really gets back into it a degree it almost seems like it’s taking too much on. There are things done exceedingly well while other things are done horribly wrong . I’ve made posts about it before and plan to make a big series of posts (it’s a lot of writing) but my biggest gripe is with Honest Hearts and all the gross and white savior esque depictions it has of indigenous peoples. The entirety if FNV does not do the injustices faced by indigenous people correctly on any count. My two biggest complaints are with the Khans and the tribes in Zion but I’ll talk about the former on a different post.

Both characters of Daniel and Joshua are the most accurate depiction of white saviors I’ve seen and I hate how the DLC tries to justify and defend them. The DLC treats Joshua like this man who has repented for his past actions when he is just retracing his steps after his cruelty bit him in the ass. He was one of the worst parts of the Legion and it is all but explicitly stated that if you don’t force him to be non-violent he will turn the tribes of Zion into the legion 2.0. The Dead Horses and the Sorrows are horribly infantilized by both Daniel and Joshua who both use them for self serving purposes guised by religious duty. The White Legs are the horrible stereotype of violent and savage indigenous and I personally think a lot of their interlinking with Ulysses, his hair and Ulysses character in general are distasteful and very telling of how BIPOC or POC where involved.

But outside of the game it’s the weird obsession people have with these characters ideologies and trying to make them seem more interesting/philosophical than they are. Tumblr is an echo chamber and many fans of Fallout are not the people on this site. Many people are not educated in the issues these characters convey and how poorly they do or used these characters as a poor introduction for their takes. Contrary to what a lot of people believe in, fallout has a prediomeny white cis male fanbase. More importantly a large portion of the fanbase is white.

You can joke how FNV made you trans or see the numbers on post/fics or diverse headcanons but these are kiddy numbers compared to the millions that consume the franchise and aren’t in those more aware spaces or don’t engage in the spaces the same way someone like me does/has to. Their views shape a lot more than people realize and it’s exhausting to be in a space where people don’t correct the more subtle yet toxic aspects of it but also adopt them into some weird quirky view point on the characters or issues. Some people don’t realize and some people don’t care.

My main issue is just the idolizing of these sort of thing in this fandom space and people try to acts like a game like fallout whose tagline is “War never changes” and has never had a game not revolve around political or militaristic factions issues isn’t that deep or doesn’t relate to real issues. I think it’s mainly caused by how over powered you can become and how you can strong arm your way past these learning moments as majority of people who play this game do play it as a power fantasy where they can do so as they please (which of course, go ahead it’s fun) but never take in parallels or lessons in the story as if it was just another first person shooter.

Also like another personal gripe is Cazadores spawn like hell whenever I’m there and I have not found a mod that works to mod them out so I have to play Indigenous Racism the DLC while getting jumped by giant wasps WHILE helping Mormons. Like I cannot catch a break.

i do still think datv feels very … disconnected from the previous trilogy, and that parts of it don’t really Feel like dragon age to me. that being said, i’m still having a fun time

Secrets of the Obscure is alright and all but am I the only one kinda miffed that they ripped off a lot of it from Dragon Age: Inquisition and didn't really add or change enough to be it's own unique thing?

even the rift hunting mechanic is Exactly The Same, because you Open the rift, then fight something then close it. the animation is almost 1-1 and even the eye in the rift looks like the Inquisition eye. if it wasn't for the fact that Even The Mechanic is the same I might not have noticed it so much, but the more I play the more blatant it feels

and then their wizard lore also just feels like how demons come out of the Fade in Dragon Age to possess mages. it's almost exact

disclaimer that I'm still enjoying it because it's fun and I like that we get to see Zojja again and have a better map for practicing skyscales for those who don't have one yet, but uh...this whole plot was stolen!

and yes I know there are certain fantasy tropes that re-occur in fantasy over and over, but this doesn't feel like that. it feels like the writers legit just snapped the base ideas from DAI and then barely added or changed anything to make it uniquely Guild Wars

imo it's definitely the weakest of all the packs

which is a shame because I LOVEDDDDD the intro. the whole sequence of having to defend yourself and run for your life was so ridiculously tense, I really felt like I was playing a horror game

but now I'm on Ep. 7 and all the potential feels wasted because I feel like I'm playing the underwritten fanfiction of another game that I already played 10 years ago and didn't like that much the first time

there's nothing that makes me angry more than watching a no commentary playthrough and watching how the person who's playing the game is choosing options that are so not biased (they're ignoring all the other characters for the sake of their faves which would be okay in all the other cases but not when you're recording a playthrough for other people to watch)
