What are some of your favorite Bo Katan hcs?

oh man. i have SO many bo headcanons i genuinely don't know where to begin, and also a ton of these were crowdsourced in servers and the like. uhhhhhhh? let's do chronologically i guess???

she and satine are five years apart. they were raised together for the most part, though satine, as her father's heir, got a very different upbringing than she did. bo was relatively sheltered from the reality of the civil war raging as they grew up, while satine saw wayyyy too much at a very young age.

her mother was a member of clan vizsla who married into the kryze clan. she was assassinated when bo and satine were both very very young, so they were mainly raised by their father (and many tutors)

she was sickly as a child, and satine exceeded her in every way, physically, intellectually, etc. which was terrible on bo's self-esteem, though she did eventually catch up to her sister as they got older. this one is stolen from @underworldobsessed whose twin!kryzes live in my heart forever

the sisters being separated was absolutely apocalyptic for them both and neither truly recovered emotionally from it. satine believed bo to be dead for years, and pre in turn told bo that satine was relieved to not have to worry about her anymore.

her armor was once her mother's, per @the-obiwan-for-me's headcanon

while on the subject of pre: they were in a romantic relationship for years. this is extremely foundational to how i view bo's character in general actually!! he essentially took advantage of her when she was an impressionable and traumatized young woman, and then weaponized her against her sister for fully over a decade. it was totally scummy and abusive and terrible for her and she spends years after his death processing what happened

she was very religious/spiritual when she was young and became a jaded agnostic during the imperial era. what was left of her faith was shattered by the great purge, and she partially blames mandalorian religion for dividing her people and leaving them vulnerable to destruction

she is extremely suspicious and lowkey terrified of the armorer. i know everyone thinks they're friends and i COMPLETELY disagree, every time they're onscreen together i fear for bo's life. bo knows that the alliance with the COTW completely rests on the armorer's whim and she doesn't trust it for a second.

she loves little kids, especially grogu, whom she is teaching to read

she saved some of satine's clothes when the empire destroyed mandalore. they were in korkie's possession until he also died, so now they're hers and she looks at them when she really wants to feel sorry for herself. she takes 100% responsibility for satine's death and refused the darksaber the first time on the basis of her guilt.

in general bo is just someone who is very much a product of her environment. if she had a healthier upbringing and/or less exposure to pre she would have been an entirely different person. she is intensely principled and has the same heart of gold as satine, she is just younger and significantly easier to manipulate. her biggest weakness is that she is naive!!

idk if by favorite you meant "cute" or "extremely important to how i understand her character" so i covered...well mostly the latter but i think there are some milder ones in here???

What Each Type Brings to the Relationship

Enneagram Ones and Threes are both competent, serious minded, and idealistic. This is a highly task-oriented relationship, with both partners driven to hard work and to be intensely aware when, individually and collectively, they are not measuring up to their own expectations and high standards. Both parties can bring selflessness, self-discipline, good work habits, and the ability to put aside their personal feelings for the sake of the objective good that needs to be done. Both types are used to working so hard that they often succeed, garnering admiration from those around them and attaining places of leadership and responsibility. Rhett and Link’s problems with the Enneagram

I have now watched both Enneagram EBs and the second one actually set my gears to work (So Anon here it comes! I promise it was spontaneous).

After listening to Link and mostly Rhett talk about the Enneagram again and again, I realised I have a problem but I can not place its exact root. There is either something fundamentally wrong with the Enneagram itself or maybe it’s Rhett and consequently Link who talk about it in a way that made me feel a little uncomfortable.

My problem and cause of concern was that everything that was said during the two podcasts had a clear negative tone to it. I will have to bring in myself to it to give you an example so bear with me for a paragraph. I did the test and I am a 5 (Investigator - Observer, something like that) which suits me rather well, especially since it agrees perfectly with my Myers-Briggs INTP type. The results said I was a 5w6 (essentially an emotionless analytical robot) which is definitely wrong as I am clearly a 5w4 (a sad mess who analyses the world and searches pointlessly for the true meanings in life and wants to come up with the ultimate all-encompassing philosophy). I mean, OK, they are not described exactly like that but trust me, that’s the point. But despite all the flaws associated with it, especially in the fields of socialising and tremendous procrastination due to an insane fear of failure, I am actually very much in touch with it. I revel in analysing, in trying to see the bigger picture, to make up my own theory about life and the world. It gives me fuel to go on, it fills me with excitement, it gives me a purpose.

Now, what I kept hearing from Rhett and Link are the things they would hope to run away from. I can’t seem to remember a single positive thing they said about their personalities. All traits they mentioned ( which were all pretty one-dimensional for both I dare say) were presented in the context of torturing them and having to confront them. With these insights in their personalities and the spiritual deconstructions earlier, their old (surprising back then) statement that they are “fundamentally sad people” makes more and more sense. Some of their traits, like Link’s care for perfection to the smallest detail and his moral concerns could have been neutral or positive but, no, they are almost all given as clear negatives or at least as things that have an emotional toll on them.

This gives me the impression that Link and especially Rhett have found comfort in studying the Enneagram and try to find an explanation for what they are like, to feel part of a group, represented in their misery. In short, they focus on the analysis of the flaws of their personalities as a part of who they are and avoid dealing with the root that caused said flaws. Link is more self aware while Rhett still struggles to reach the root of it, which is his childhood. Not that he doesn’t know it but he can’t just deal with the people and the situations that impacted him enough to make him a three. For instance, Rhett seems to believe that he is a natural three that his parents made manifest even more strongly. It could be the case or the threeness we observe in him is the direct product of his parents’ constant judgement. By keeping chanting he needs to “be” instead of “do”, I am not sure Rhett will achieve much. Honestly, the one impactful step he needs to take is to stop caring about what his father thinks and I am sorry to say he is still not near achieving this. Especially when I take into account how scared he was during his videocall with his dad in GMM and how relieved he looked after the call was over without drama. In short, my problem with their take in the Enneagram is that it seems that Three is Rhett’s pack of unresolved issues rather than his complete personality type.

Furthermore, Rhett speaks knowingly about all numbers / personality types which proves he consumes passionately all Enneagram information that is available. For a man of his level of active lifestyle, hectic schedule and impatience, this shows that he indeed seeks comfort in finding a detailed description and an explanation for his personality, for the way he feels and acts. What does this mean? Well, that he does not like the way he feels about himself a lot. Not only that, but he is actually in a search of self. At this point, he is no longer cryptic about it but it is more serious than he lets on. He tries to make sense of himself and he tries desperately to find something in himself to love. I hope there are people in his life who let him know that he is worthy of their love, friendship and appreciation even though he is so deep inside his head that even the affectionate feedback can only help so much. Rhett will start finding some peace only if he takes the one step I mentioned above.

And then it seems that Link’s personality type is also exclusively a byproduct of his childhood and is aggravated by his relationship with Rhett. Link’s perfectionism doesn’t cause him enthusiasm - he just dreads the disturbance of his supposedly perfectly stable world. In all honesty, Link doesn’t strike me as an ambitious person. Link would just love to have his dear routine and a loyal person to share it with. Link needs stability and companionship. He is fine with just one person as long as this person contributes to the stability of their bond. Who that one person is in Link’s life is another story…

Link doesn’t care that much about the creative process and, frankly, he doesn’t care all that much about the comedy. Link cares to keep the environment Rhett and he work stable and safe. For Link, judgement from the audience is not as alarming as Rhett’s frustration because of it. Link cares to ensure that Rhett’s idea will be successful enough to keep working and to keep working together. So Link’s entire self-identification as a one seems to stem from his fear of abandonment and worthlessness only. Link fears he has not much to contribute to Mythical and he tries to counteract that by becoming the ultimate source of management and control. Because if he didn’t even manage the company, then what would Rhett need him for? Hence, Link’s obsession for control is a consequence of his fear, he doesn’t necessarily love to be in control for the sake of it. This is proven by his plane example, which shows that he finally relaxes when he does NOT need to be in control.

Link has been working hard most of his life to ensure his position next to Rhett. This brings even more insight in his resentment for Rhett that explodes from time to time. Link resents Rhett because he tries so hard to be always by his side but due to Rhett’s opportunitism, he can’t tell whether Rhett wants his companionship or he simply needs it for their brand. Even worse, Link dreads that the reason Rhett is his friend is because Link feeds his ego with his loyalty and admiration, because he takes Link for granted and not because he loves Link for who he is.

“Do you care for me or do you revel in the fact that I care for you?”

Now, I can’t get inside Rhett’s head but I doubt he uses people. I believe his genuine care for Link can be found in the weirdest examples - those from which Rhett has nothing to gain i.e getting frustrated when Link doesn’t enjoy food as much. Yes, this is a sign of love. Rhett enjoys food so much that he wants to share that enjoyment with Link. He can’t realise Link’s tongue works differently - he thinks Link is missing out and it frustrates him. Another silly example is Rhett buying Apocalypse equipment for a clearly disinterested Link and probably never getting its money’s worth back. This is important to Rhett for some reason and he is concerned enough to protect careless Link as well despite having no personal gain from it.

The truth is that these two men feed off each other; Rhett keeps Link attached to him to always feel worthy and Link keeps Rhett attached to him to always feel safe. However, the fact that Rhett is almost his entire source of safety and that Link is Rhett’s biggest calibrator of worth is indicative of the levels of love and need. Nevertheless, Rhett and Link are not independent people. They were constantly in search of support from one another and they lost themselves in the process of satisfying others or being safe. This is something they are realising only now.

Link’s fear of abandonment is so big that it frequently leads him to an almost paranoid behaviour. It is crazy that he felt left out when Rhett communicated with the audience during a podcast whose key purpose is to… communicate with the audience. His fear here has two sides: 1) that Rhett didn’t consider him an equally important business partner so he preferred to speak directly to the audience and 2) that Rhett isn’t emotionally invested in him in order to open up to him. And by saying he can deceive people if he needs, Rhett doesn’t help Link overcome his huge insecurities. This is why Link begs Rhett to talk to him about his feelings more. He does not understand whether Rhett loves him or uses him. The notion that Rhett doesn’t truly love or appreciate him is one of his biggest fears in life.

As for Rhett, it is certainly huge growth that he starts opening up and being vulnerable to a few thousand strangers yet it all still derives from his need to be accepted by said strangers as I am afraid that the late disproportionate criticism he gets for silly stuff on Twitter and Tumblr surely don’t help him deal with his issues, no matter how hard he tries. Therefore, Rhett is trapped in a vicious circle. Besides, Rhett was overly sensitive to be hurt when Link stated the obvious; that he was being vulnerable in hopes to be understood and accepted, because that was clearly what Rhett was openly doing. However, having someone discussing openly his vulnerability immediately made Rhett retreat back to his shell because no matter how hard he tries, Rhett hasn’t managed to separate vulnerability from weakness in his mind yet.

Long story short, Rhett and Link might be Three and One respectively but I am not sure they have a good understanding of themselves anyway. They may have figured out their types correctly but they certainly narrow their entire sense of being to their unresolved issues and phobias. They entirely lack a sense of self-worth and they probably have not realised the extent of the traumas in their youth. In the Enneagram language, the nine personality types have nine levels of development. I believe Rhett and Link are either in the average levels or the mildest unhealthy level. They are certainly not in the healthy top three levels.

Their obsession with the Ennegram helps only superficially but they seem to have based an illogically huge part of their self exploration on it. The Enneagram might offer some insight but won’t offer the resolutions they long for and badly need in order to find some relief. The ones that come when you confront your environment instead of overanalysing yourself and beating yourself up because of it.

Are you angry: Uhm...I mean, I’m not...I’m not normally an angry person per se. I think...I have a lot of unresolved emotions that just kind of build up over time, and I’ve just never really dealt with them. Which explains the drinking and self-harm issues. But I guess, with how everything hit the fan and with all the violence, it just turned into anger. So, in a way, maybe I am angry. I don’t know. Are your parents still married: Super tempted to do the whole Batman thing, you know, the “my parents are dead!” dramatic bit? But my mother died when I was young and my father died a before I moved to Hope County. So, no, I suppose they aren’t.

Are you afraid of commitment: Yes and no. I want commitment and to be loved, but I guess I’m just scared of being abandoned, you know? Makes it a bit hard to open up to people when you’ve had bad experiences doing so in the past. 

Have you hugged someone in the last week: Sure. John, that’s a no brainer. Adelaide, Rowan, Jacob does this side hug thing, so I’m counting that. 

Have you ever broken your own heart: Guilty as charged. I started a fight with John when things started to get serious because I was falling in love with him, and was afraid he was faking everything just to get me to join. So...yeah. Looking back, if I would’ve just talked with him, maybe things would have been a bit different.

Have you ever ran away from home: No, I didn’t have the courage to try that with my dad. I left as soon as I turned 18, though.

Grey's Anatomy: Leave A Light On (16x16)

Okay so what the hell went down between Justin Chambers and the show-runners, that this had to go down this way? Wow.

Cons:

So yeah, I'm not happy about this. Izzie? Seriously? Listen, I can appreciate that they were backed into a corner because Chambers left so abruptly. Was that even his voice in the voice-over, or just a sound-alike? I'm not entirely sure. But come on. If you'll indulge me for a moment, here's how I would have re-worked this:

After being thoroughly ghosted, Jo receives a letter or voicemail from Alex explaining that he talked to Izzie, found out he has two five-year-old kids, and flew to Kansas to meet them. He intended to come back and talk to her about it, but he got swept up. He wants her to come to Kansas, to move there so they can be closer to Alex's kids. Jo is understandably furious that Alex just up and left without talking to her, and demands to know why Izzie and the kids can't move to Seattle, then? Why should they have to disrupt their lives/careers? But Alex is insistent. Izzie and the kids have a good set-up, he doesn't want to ask them to move. Jo, hurt and confused, decides that for the sake of her marriage, she at least has to go over there to talk to Alex in person. So Jo leaves, and for the next two or three episodes, she's gone while we follow other characters' stories. Then, abruptly, Jo comes back. She shows up on Meredith's doorstep and hands her a letter. Turns out, Alex isn't coming back.

We find out, partially through Alex's letters to Meredith, Bailey, and Richard, and partially through Jo explaining things to Link over drinks, what happened. Jo went there, and saw how happy Alex was with the kids. She wanted to imagine her life there with him, but she couldn't. She kept trying to talk to him about making a joint decision for their future, but it occurred to her pretty early on that Alex wasn't willing to compromise. He had already made his choice. He chose his kids. Jo realizes something else, too. Even if they can't see it, Alex and Izzie are already acting like a couple - seamlessly co-parenting and making compromises and accommodations for each other. Heartbroken, Jo realizes that it's not just the kids that Alex has fallen in love with. She decides to go back to Seattle. She hopes Alex will come back for her, will figure out a solution, but she knows in her heart of hearts that it's over.

Life moves on, and eventually we learn from Jo that she and Alex have been talking on the phone, and that Alex is sending over divorce papers. The future of Alex and Izzie's relationship is left uncertain - we know that Jo thought there was something between them, but maybe they just stay friends and parent their kids together without getting back together. Who knows.

And... curtain call. Justin Chambers can come back to play Alex in cameo roles in future, and while Jo and Meredith et. al have every right to be furious with him for taking off and lying to his wife about where he was, we no longer have this bullshit scenario where Alex cheated on his wife and instantly fell back into something with Izzie without even trying to make his relationship with Jo work while still having a relationship with his kids.

It wouldn't be the perfect solution, but by god would it be better than what we were given here.

If I can just break down a couple of the ways Alex's character has been assassinated by this decision? We already had Alex deal with the Izzie drama. There wasn't any unresolved tension there. He got his closure. He loved Jo. For the show to manufacture this idea that all along, Alex was looking for an excuse to get in touch with her, is such obvious bullshit. He straight-up told Jo he didn't need to call Izzie, didn't want to. We saw that in a flashback during this episode. And yet we're supposed to believe that's all bullshit? Come on.

Also, there's that heartbreaking scene at the end where Zola wants to show Uncle Alex her science project, and Meredith has to explain that basically the only remaining male authority figure in Zola's life, the man who wanted to have family breakfasts with Meredith and her kids every week, has up and left without saying goodbye, and with no intent to ever come back and visit. Alex's letter talks about how he has kids, and how he loves them so much, and how he hopes someday Meredith will come to meet them and they will call her Aunt Meredith. With absolutely no irony. Alex, you have Zola and Bailey and Ellis. And I know this show tends to forget about the kids a lot of the time, but still. Alex's whole thing is how he's this screw-up with a heart of gold, and one of the main ways of illustrating that is through showing his behavior around children. He abandoned Meredith's kids. He straight up abandoned them, and it sucks.

I liked a lot of the bits and pieces from some of the letters, to be honest, but Alex's letter to Jo was mostly just a slap in the face. He loves her, and tells her straight-up that if it was a matter of Jo vs. Izzie, he'd pick Jo. But because of the kids, he wants to stick with Izzie. And his rationale here is that he and Jo both know what it's like to grow up in these broken homes without stable parents. Bull. Shit. If they had gone with my scenario above, I could forgive this. Of course Alex wants to be around his kids that he just found out about. And I could even understand not wanting to move them to Seattle. But to just decide, right off the bat, that he has to abandon his marriage in order to make that work? That is not the Alex Karev I have watched grow and develop over sixteen seasons. All of his language, about how Jo is so great, how she deserves better, how Alex loves her... gross. And he has the audacity to thank her for "fixing" him and helping to make him a better person. Gross gross gross. This should have been different. This should have been this messy thing, where Jo and Alex try to make it work, but it falls apart gradually over time. They could have given us that, and not turned Alex into an utter dickhead.

And then there's the Izzie of it all. Say what you will about her character, about the way she left Alex... she's still supposed to be a human being. She was still a character that we followed for many years, that we saw through heartbreak and triumph. And her voice here is completely erased. She didn't contact Alex when she used frozen embryos to create his children. That's a little bit unforgivable all on its own. But she had her reasons, and then one day Alex calls her out of the blue, and suddenly she's like - yes, come move here and live with me and leave your wife and be a father? What does she think about all this? Does her opinion here hold no weight? This sucks and I hate it!

I feel like I could go on and on. But I do want to include a "pros" section here, and talk about some aspects of this that I didn't downright despise.

Pros:

I don't mind that they did the flash-back clip show thing. If Justin Chambers couldn't be here, it was the best they could do. And it was fun/infuriating to see Alex's character over the years, to see his romances with Izzie and Jo, to see his friendship with Mer, the mentorship and trust that grew up between him and Bailey, and him and Richard. It was a smart move to narrow the focus on just the characters that matter in the long-run to him. The episode wasn't cluttered with Maggie, Amelia, Owen, Teddy, etc. and their nonsense, or any of the other secondary characters. Their stories will have room elsewhere. This was for Alex, and I did appreciate that.

Here's something I will say: I don't hate the outcome of this ending for Alex. The thought of him being there for his kids is absolutely beautiful. I actually started crying a few times during the letters, especially the one to Meredith. He's describing how when he first met his kids, they pulled him immediately into their room and wanted to show them all their toys. And he's so awed and honored that he gets to provide stability and comfort to these two people, when he himself grew up without that. So did Izzie. So did Jo. The episode did a good job of acknowledging that, and of setting up why the idea of Alex having a stable life with a good career and kids to dote on, is the proper ending for his character. The endgame is on point. The path to get there is where I have serious, serious issues (see above).

I also liked how they managed to tie Alex's ending in to the existing story-lines with both Richard and Miranda. We'll doubtless see Jo (and possibly Meredith) dealing with this in a more direct way as the weeks go by. But for the two people who mentored Alex, who raised him, we see how much he affected them, and how much they truly cared for him. For Richard, there's a sense of betrayal. At a meeting, he talks about how much being a surgeon and being a teacher has meant to him. And he can't understand Alex giving up everything he's worked for, all for the sake of a woman and his kids. But on the flip side? He didn't get to know Maggie growing up, and he can't honestly begrudge him his decision. I liked the complexity of his reaction here, how he can understand, and still be angry.

Bailey, meanwhile, thinks about all of the struggles Alex went through, and how much dumb luck was involved in him turning in to the person he is today. He was a smart, capable young man who could easily have been lost to the world, wandering and aimless. Even though he ended up happy and successful, it isn't right that he had to work so hard to achieve that, without support. She wants to offer stability to Joey. Ben is in agreement - I like that Bailey's decision to take Joey in didn't start a whole avalanche of drama between the two of them. They've been through enough. I also really appreciated them talking about their communication issues. Both of them have the problem of hiding big, important things from one another. Bailey's heart-attack, Ben's career change, and now Bailey's decision to adopt Joey. But they are both all in, ready for whatever craziness comes their way. And now Joey is a part of their family, which I quite enjoy!

So that's... that. Jo deserves so much better. And Alex deserves so much better. Hell, Izzie deserves better. Without Justin Chambers, there was no satisfying way to end this character's run on the show. Even with him, it would have been difficult to pull this off. But this final result? Ugh. It does such a disservice to one of the most brilliantly developed characters on this show's entire long run. I'm pretty sad about it, to be honest.

aah i agree im vry disappointed in this chapter ! like its good like usual, but its kind of a let down after the last 5 chapters... ht rly exposed himself minutes before, and comedy aside, MGS answered him by ignoring him, and then saying "were not friends, were not as close as you think we are". it must have been hurtful for HT, its basically a rejection of recognizing HT vulnerabilities. and its totally In character for MGS to say this, so im not disappointed by it 1/?

i mean HT lay his heart down for Mo to see and theyve known each other for 15 DAYS, its too soon for anybody and especially for Mo who have mistrust problems to respond in the same way ? so running away and deflecting the declaration is cool, i wasnt excepting a "ill never abandon u!!" lol. but then HT being cool with this rejection and having a slapstick comedy just after doesnt feel right. mb show HT swallowing and being disheartened, and then put his usual facade and only then have comedy 2/?

would have been good, bc we would have known "oh ht is actually hurt by MGS reaction but doesnt know how to say it, so he plays it cool and change the subject bc hes still not at ease with being vulnerable". a realistic situation would have been "ht tried to be vulnerable but it was too soon, too much for mo who rejected him, so it confirmed ht biased thinking that showing vulnerabilities is bad and it will prevent ht to be vulnerable in front of someone in the near future". 3/?

i mean it could have been a nice although sad conclusion for this mini-arc, especially since ht have been grieving (?) his mother just this morning. a little step back, and then smth else happen and cause ht to crack completely but then mo is able to respond present and its a step forward. ok im daydreaming but that would have been climatic lol. instead this..ah i dont know i feel cheated, i know its ox' work but still haha ! like when they do an abrupt change of scene after an emotional page 4/

its a trick ox use often and after 300 chapters it feels old n cheap. when u engage in a emotional scene, u cant just do "oops i change my mind!!" and put slapstick comedy or ignore totally what just happened and dont have a progression. u have to stay on this road : u cant put traumatizing backgrounds and mafia affairs and mature problems (kidnapping, mother being threatening into prostitution,etc) n just.. not stick with it and making ur characters not traumatized by it and just 'lol comedy'.

sry im kind of monopolizing ur askbox lol, i guess im kind of frustrated ! it just the last chapters were so good and it was a while since ox use this cheap trick of not going through an emotional scene that i kind of forgot how terrible they were at handling transition between drama and comedy. theyre a good artist all in all (or i wouldnt be this disappointed!!), but they have this failing in their writing an it drives me nuts each time lmao. haa i hope next chapter will be better...5/5

Hell yeah, DEFINITELY, that sums up my thoughts. Also, you don't have to apologize, it was an interesting read and I can tell that you feel strongly about it. While I can’t say that I’m flat-out disappointed, as I wrote in my original post, I’m definitely feeling lukewarm and indifferent about the recent ch.

OX touched upon a few serious matters a couple of chapters before: namely She Li’s fucked up goading and the way it unsettled He Tian -- unsettled in no joking manner as follows from his reaction. Then we get He Tian swearing to beat up anyone who dares bully Mo, and the whole profound monologue from the previous chapter. Just as you say, He Tian truly laid himself bare there. One could argue that He Tian listed the reasons he was enamoured with Mo, or one could argue that he subtly commented on the milieu he grew up in, or one can even read it as He Tian admitting/reflecting on his flaws out loud. There are many ways to construe this scene, each of them is extremely meaningful. Not to mention it took HT visible effort to say these things out loud.

The problem which both you and I noticed is that OX left this mini-arc/mini-subplot unresolved. Instead, they abruptly switched to comedic relief. Much like you, I wasn’t expecting a big reaction from Mo -- no grand verbal declarations at very least. What I expected was a panel (maybe a close up of Mo’s face as I mentioned in my original post) that indicated he actually HEARD what HT told him, that it gave Mo some food for thought. 

As you mention, Mo getting disconcerted and doing the tsun-tsun escape is fairly in character for him. Still, a panel like this would have been very welcome to emphasize his confusion and to justify him not gracing the other boy with an answer, ignoring HT showing his underbelly (which is something that doesn't come easy for him, as we readers know). Okay, sure, OX handled it differently this chapter -- we get Mo silently running away and blurting out the first comeback he could think of. No problem. It works to show that HT’s words had an effect on him, albeit it’s much less pronounced, than, say, the Aquarium scene -- again one would have to wonder why: HT’s “don’t abandon me” is just as strong, if not stronger, than “I’m afraid you’ll forget me”, so it follows that Mo should have been just as affected.

The problem is the way an emotionally charged moment quickly fizzled out into comedy. As you said, Mo blurting out “we are not friends, we are not familiar enough, so I don’t care what you think (of me)!” SHOULD have hit HT harder. Just minutes before we had HT being genuinely disturbed by the idea of someone looking to intentionally hurt Mo, seeking physical comfort, being disquieted by the idea of getting abandoned and losing someone he likes, confessing that he admires the other boy -- yet when Mo utters yet another curt rejection of sorts, we are not shown HT’s reaction, which, logically, should have been there. 

And all of that emotional build-up is cheapened by an accidental dick slap comedy. 

Indeed, showing HT being hurt (disquieted? deflated?) and then putting on a cool guy mask, and ONLY then switching to a slapstick humour would have been more appropriate. It wouldn’t have taken a big or an overly dramatic scene either -- just, IDK, show HT’s eyes widening, or his throat clicking, or his posture slumping, anything to indicate that Mo’s words affected him -- that the whole thing mattered to him. Otherwise, it leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth: “so Imma confess to the person I like and swear to protect them and beg them to put up with me -- oh! forget anything serious that I said, Imma touch some dick now”. While I don't have an issue with comedy coming into focus again, I do wish it hadn't been this abrupt. Had there been a better transition between these scenes, there wouldn't be this "lol jk" vibe that I’m getting.

So yeah, I, too, feel a little cheated. OX certainly has an issue with drama-comedy transitions, which are sort of hit-and-miss for me. Sometimes they work well to alleviate the grave mood, other times they appear to be out of place. The recent chapter is the latter case. Dangling a possibility of climatic resolution for the subplot and then intentionally subverting it just doesn’t work in favour of the plot here. It cheapened the emotional part and made the comedy feel much less fun for me. Of course, no one says that writing is an easy task. Plenty of mangakas, for instance, work with writers to strengthen their script and plots, so it’s challenging when a single person is responsible for both drawing and planning the story. OX is undoubtedly doing a tremendous job. Still, I wish they wouldn’t stick to using the old trick this monastically because it's becoming a trite writing device and works against them on occasion. It’s totally fine to keep the comic light-hearted yet it’s not good to ignore the needed dramatic development.

Red Flags vs. Pink Flags

A lot of people talk about the importance of spotting “red flags” early on in a relationship. “Red flags” are small behaviours, quirks and traits that act as warning signs for bigger problems down the road - spotting red flags in a new dating partner can be a sign that it might be wise to end the relationship and look for a less problematic partner. 

But for all the talk of the importance of “red flags”, it can be really difficult to find good discussions of which behaviours are actually red flags, and which ones aren’t. Many people mix in red flags that are personal to them (”doesn’t like cats”, “is too religious”) with red flags that are pretty much universal (”doesn’t respect boundaries”). Some lists include behaviours that only happen after things have gone way too far, like physical violence or stalking - these aren’t warning signs, they’re straight-up problem behaviours that red flags are meant to help you avoid. Other lists can seem to be too harsh, and call for you to abandon a relationship over behaviours that might have a reasonable explanation - these are behaviours I prefer to think of as “pink flags”, since they don’t necessarily spell disaster. 

No one is ever going to create a perfect list that perfectly sorts and captures all red flags and pink flags, but there are a couple of major ones that people should know about. If you’re dating someone and there are some things about your partner that are making you uneasy, knowing whether those warning signs are “red flags” or “pink flags” can help you decide how to proceed.  Red Flags (almost always a bad sign, and cause for concern):

They are infatuated with you to the point of obsession. It can be really flattering to have someone tell you that you’re literally perfect and their ideal soulmate and even more amazing than they ever dared to dream. The problem, though, is that this is often a sign that someone has put you up on a pedestal, and that they are dating their own idealized, fictional version of you, rather than the real you. Obsession is often a gateway to unhealthy, irrational jealousy, as well as the real possibility that they will lash out at you every time you deviate from the perfect image of you that they’ve built up in their heads. 

They want to rush the relationship. Our culture really likes this romantic idea of people “just knowing” when they’re met the one, and skipping immediately to marriage, kids and happily ever after. In reality though, a person who calls you their soulmate and asks you to move in three weeks after your first date is probably leaning more toward “obsession” than affection, and this is probably not the first time they’ve done this with a new partner. Some people fall into a pattern where they rush headlong into commitment with new partner after new partner - that’s not a pattern you want to be a part of. 

They never miss an opportunity to trash their ex-partners. People have bad ex-partners sometimes. It happens. Having a bad ex is not a reason to avoid someone. Constantly bashing their exes, however, is a bad sign. A person who feels the need to constantly talk about what a piece of shit their ex is probably still has a lot of unresolved feelings about the relationship, and and they more than likely don’t have the ability to take responsibility for whatever part they played in the relationship’s demise. If someone insists that every single one of their exes is a crazy lunatic, it might be time to consider the common denomination - them. 

You never know where you stand with them. One day, your new beau is attentive, loving and the picture of devotion... then for the next three days, they’re distant and disinterested. Then, without explanation, they’re back to being devoted to you. This kind of behaviour is a huge red flag, especially once you’re past the first couple of dates - it’s a sign that someone is stringing you along for their own gain, or that they’re into playing mind games. In healthy relationships, both parties try to constantly signal interest. 

They are quick to use guilt as a weapon. Someone who constantly responds to small slights by heaping guilt on you is not going to stop that behaviour anytime soon - it’s only going to escalate over time. If you can’t go out with your friends without getting a “I thought I was the most important thing to you, but I guess not... it’s fine, I’ll just sit here by myself....” text, that’s a bad sign. This person is not interested in having reasonable, adult conversations about their feelings - they’d rather be manipulative. 

Their moods and reactions are extremely unpredictable. One moment, they shrug it off when someone cuts them off in traffic, and the next moment, they are beside themselves with rage when the barista messes up their coffee order. This kind of unpredictability can be a sign that they have uncontrolled anger problems, and it’s only a matter of time before their partner is on the receiving end of those issues.

They are excessively secretive. It’s normal not to spill all of your deepest secrets on a first date, but as a relationship progresses, it’s healthy for both partners to gradually disclose more information to each other. A person who goes out of their way to pretend that they don’t have a past is probably not someone you want to keep around - they might be guarding a dealbreaking secret (like the fact that they are already married, or that they have lied about much of what they’ve told you), they might not want to get too invested in you, or they might have serious trust issues. No matter what the explanation, it’s a problem. 

They insist that the relationship be a secret, even if you don’t want it to be. It’s not unreasonable to expect the person you are dating to admit that they are dating you. A person who refuses to do that is probably up to no good - again, they might have another partner that they are hiding you from, they might not be as serious about you as they are leading you to believe, or they might intentionally want to make you feel like they are ashamed of you. 

They have no life skills, and no obvious intention of learning any. Not everyone is a natural-born chef, and it’s okay to occasionally struggle with things like figuring out which garments can go in the wash together, or finding the best way to load a dishwasher. What’s not okay is taking pride in living in your own filth, and having no intention of ever learning how to be a functional adult. This kind of person will be inclined to treat you as more of a surrogate parent than a partner, and a long-term relationship will mean either picking up after them or living alongside them in their filth.

They have no goals or ambitions. This doesn’t mean “they don’t make a lot of money” or “they aren’t career-oriented” - a person who works a low-paying job or isn’t very invested in their career might be very invested in the idea of raising children, learning new things, pursuing their hobbies, travelling, improving as an artist, volunteering in their community, etc, and they can make a wonderful partner. Not everyone wants a workaholic partner. On the other hand, a person who has no passion or drive in life, for anything, is a huge red flag - that person is likely going to expect the relationship to cover all of their needs in life, and tension is bound to arise when you want to grow as a person and they don’t. 

They lie to you. Telling lies because “I didn’t think you would like me if I told you the truth” or “I didn’t want you to get upset” or “I didn’t think it was a big deal” is not cute, and it’s not excusable. A person who readily lies to you for their own gain is manipulative, and they are going to keep doing it the next time it’s more convenient for them. 

They are not willing to trust you. A partner has no business demanding that you give them your social media passwords, access to your phone, or the power to GPS track you. Being cheated on or lied to in the past is no excuse. This kind of controlling, possessive behaviour gets much worse over time, and anyone who is this mistrustful of their partner needs to work on their own issues before they can think about being in a relationship. 

They are controlling. Your partner should not be telling you what you can wear, how often you can go out, or who you can be friends with. It doesn’t matter if they dress this up as “concern about your safety” or “just looking out for you”. Love is not control. A person who wants to have control over your life is not going to get better over time - they are going to get increasingly more controlling, until you find yourself having to ask their permission for everything. 

They try to drive a wedge between you and your family or friends. Trust your relationships with your friends and family. A partner who shows up in your life and starts telling you that X friend is no good for you or that you should really stop seeing so much of Y is not looking out for you, and they don’t have your best interests at heart. They are trying to isolate you, and that’s what they will achieve if this goes on. 

They are deeply insecure and counting on the relationship to fix them. You cannot be someone’s everything, no matter how hard you try. It is impossible for one person to be completely responsible for all of their partner’s emotional and social needs. If your partner comes completely unglued the moment that they aren’t able to get validation from you, that’s a serious problem. Best case scenario, you end up in a relationship with someone who needs you to reaffirm the relationship every 30 minutes so they can function. Worst case scenario, you end up sucked into a deeply interdependent relationship with someone who turns angry, violent or suicidal when you aren’t able to make their insecurities go away.

They seem like an entirely different person when they are angry. People with severe anger issues are often able to hide them in the very beginning of a relationship, but they can’t hide them forever. It’s normal for people to get angry sometimes, but if someone’s whole personality changes when they get mad, that’s a sign that there’s some serious problems lurking beneath the surface. An otherwise sweet person who becomes cruel, spiteful and aggressive when they get angry does not have their anger under control, and dating someone who can’t control their anger can be dangerous. 

Pink Flags (might be a bad sign, but not necessarily):

They don’t introduce you to their family. It’s easy to feel like someone is ashamed of you or not serious about the relationship if they don’t take you to meet the family, especially if they see their family somewhat regularly. There could be a reasonable explanation, however. Their family might still be totally in love with your partner’s ex and hoping they get back together, and your partner might not want to subject you to that. Their family might be rude to everyone they bring home. There might be a problem in the family - abuse, violence, alcoholism, a parent who flirts openly with their kids’ partners - that they are embarrassed about. Family can be a touchy subject for a lot of people, and it may take time for someone to admit the real reason that you haven’t met their parents yet. 

They are behind where they “should” be in life. Some people might be reluctant to date a 30-year-old who still lives with their parents and hasn’t finished college. Sometimes, though, people have made mistakes or faced circumstances beyond their control, and their current life situation isn’t a true representation of who they are or what they can achieve. They might not have taken college seriously the first time around, they might have faced crippling depression in their twenties, they might have been in an abusive relationship that ruined their career - there are all kinds of reasons why someone might be a little behind their peers, and none of those make them a bad potential partner. Current circumstances don’t matter as much as their willingness and drive to improve. 

They don’t have a lot of friends. Some people are shy. Some people grew up in an isolated setting and didn’t have a lot of opportunities to make friends. Some people have been too busy to socialize. Some people just require less social interaction than others. Some people just have difficulties making friends. Meeting an adult with few friends can raise some eyebrows, but it doesn’t always mean that someone has driven everyone else out of their life - sometimes there’s a more reasonable explanation. 

They are deeply in debt. Financial skills are important in a potential partner, and finding out that someone is terrible with money can put an end to an otherwise promising relationship. Being deeply in debt, however, is different from having bad financial skills. Some people have to take out massive loans in order to afford college, because they don’t have financial support from their parents. Trying to start a business, support an unemployed parent or escape a bad marriage can also put a person in debt. Financial mistakes that someone makes in their late teens or early twenties can follow them for decades. It would be a shame to miss out on a potentially wonderful relationship with someone because they decided to take out loans for their MFA when they were 22. 

They have never dated before. Again, many people will look at someone with suspicion if they’ve never dated before, especially once you reach your late twenties or older. It’s easy to assume that there must be something wrong with someone if they haven’t dated, or that they will automatically come with extra baggage or insecurities. That’s not necessarily the case. Again, there are a lot of mitigating factors here - they might have devoted most of their time to school thus far, they might have been too shy to pursue romance, or they might have had a chaotic or isolated early life. Maybe the stars have just never aligned for them, or maybe they spent years in love with someone who never returned their affection. There are a lot of possible explanations, and it’s not necessarily a reason to turn someone down.

They have dated or slept with a lot of people. On the flipside, finding out that someone has dated or slept with a lot of people can also give someone pause - it might make you worry that they aren’t capable of commitment, they’re flighty, or they don’t know what they want. It can even make you worry about your own sexual skills, or wonder if they’ll cheat. Having a lot of former partners does not make someone a cheater, however, and it does not make them incapable of having a committed long-term relationship with one person. A lot of people have a period of frequent short relationships in their life - especially with the rise of Tinder - before eventually settling into something more long-term. 

They don’t have social media or an online presence. Some people just don’t do social media. They might have concerns about their privacy and their career, or they might simply not see the point of it. It can be frustrating not to be able to access a partner’s social media profiles in today’s day and age, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they have something to hide. 

They aren’t great at communicating. Communication can be hard for a lot of people, especially if they have never had a healthy relationship modeled for them by their parents or family members. Social anxiety may make it difficult for some people to open up, or they may have absorbed very toxic messages about “sucking it up” and not talking about their feelings. A person who doesn’t always open up about their feelings right away isn’t necessarily being distant or disinterested - it’s possible that they just need more time to warm up, 

They have a mental illness. The idea of dating a person with a mental illness can be daunting. There can definitely be additional challenges that come with a mentally ill partner, especially if you’re dealing with mental health issues of your own. But it can be done, and people with mental illnesses can make wonderful, loving and healthy partners. If someone is managing their mental health conditions and knows when they need to seek additional treatment, the impact on the relationship can be fairly minimal. 

Red flags are not a one-size-fits-all thing: some people find certain red flags more alarming than others, and having a partner with one or two red flags doesn’t necessarily mean that the relationship is doomed. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide where you want to draw the line. But if you find that your new partner fits a lot of the items on this list, it might be worth seriously considering if you want the relationship to continue.

Today you marked five months and said that your belly was giant was, to say the least, your baby was growing fast, the baby loved to kick and more if it was a night to the point that sometimes woke you up in the middle of the night, you still did not know the sex of the baby because you were waiting for your parents to return from a trip to accompany you, so they were the first to know the sex of their first grandchild.

That was the little happiness you could feel lately, the support of Jisoo, Doyoung, and Your family you were grateful. Still, even so, in the darkness of your room, you cried until you fell asleep; two years of a relationship are not easy to forget, even more, when the fruit of that love that you once had was growing in your belly. The looks that your classmates gave you or that people gave you in the street for being pregnant without a man next to you made you cry, and the teenage aspect you had only made it worse. You didn't hate the boys or with the evil on any of them; you just hoped that Jungkook would rot in hell or suffer erectile dysfunction at a young age, and reduce the possibility of getting pregnant another elusive woman and not suffer the same fate than yours.

You smiled when you saw how Jisoo and Doyoung kissed each other as a pose in the photo you were taking; both were good enough to decide to make your company on your little walk to the Han River at midnight helped the baby calm down a little bit. Jisoo was the first one who decided to accompany you when she saw you were leaving the apartment. Doyoung offered to accompany us because it didn't seem like a good idea to let two women walk alone at midnight when one of them is pregnant.

Despite being past midnight, there were still many open places. Among them, your favorite coffee shop, Doyoung, offered to buy you a cup of hot white chocolate if you took a picture of both because, according to Jisoo, it was time to update their profiles.

"My reward, please" you smiled at them as you handed them their phones, causing Doyoung to roll his eyes. "And be quick slave, my baby is eager for that hot chocolate."

You dropped on a close bench, and you sighed tired, walking from your apartment to the Han River was not a good idea since you were pregnant, but the view and the mild weather were worth it; you closed your eyes, enjoying the fresh wind that it came in your coat.

"You have super swollen feet," Jisoo commented, causing you to look at her badly, it was true, but she didn't need to say it out loud.

"You'd better be the first one to like our photos, or I'll throw in front of your eyes that cup of hot chocolate, "She threatened before going to accompany Doyoung in the cafeteria.

Sometimes you felt jealous of the relationship they both had; you were thinking how you would be if Jungkook had not abandoned you, as he would react with the baby's kicks, or if he would please you in all your cravings as Doyoung does. 

You put your purse on your belly to prevent people from looking at you too much; you concentrated watching Instagram until you felt a look on you; you tried to ignore it since that person most likely sees your belly. You kept using your phone until you heard someone call your name, you quickly raised your eyes, causing your face to turn white, they were supposed to be away in another country, that's why you felt so safe walking the Han River at this time.

You cursed when you saw how it began to approach your bench; you clung to your bag thanks to the fear you didn't know how to react, you felt as if your mom had caught you eating ice cream after she made it clear that you couldn't, you couldn't respond to your body to move and you cursed Jisoo and Doyoung for their delay.

"Hi," Namjoon's voice made you shudder, but you refused to look up. "How have you been? We have not heard from you in months, and every time we ask Jungkook, he gets upset or cries, so we assume that the two of you decide to break up.

Is he serious?

Jungkook now cried for you when he was the one who destroyed the relationship. Namjoon was going to continue talking, but with that phrase, you had enough, you had to get away from Namjoon before you did something that could destroy your plans.

There are times when the universe turns against people and today was one of those times; you did not take five steps when Namjoon grabbed your wrist. "You should talk to Jungkook; I listen as Chaeyeon was talking about Jungkook telling her that you had left him by a text message and you blocked him for all social media."

"Namjoon, let me go" your voice sounded more broken than you imagined it would say, to think that Jungkook was telling those lies of yours and more telling them to someone you considered your friend, but you had to let go by the link she had with big hit. Why didn't Jungkook leave you alone? "If I block him from all social media will be for a good reason, he was the person who decided to put an end to this relationship, or why don't you ask your dear Maknae what he asked me to do?"

You stayed a moment in silence, analyzing Namjoon's face, your heart cringed when he released your wrist, and his gaze fell on your belly.

"How many months do you have?" His voice sounded nervous, his gaze traveled around trying to make sure no one was listening to their conversation, the distant voice of Doyoung calling you made you turn to see them, Jisoo dedicate you a worried look.

"I'm just asking you to leave me alone and calm; I'm going to continue with my life ahead; just tell him to stop telling lies about me, that he's decided to put an end to the relationship."

Without more, you turned around to meet your friends who were waiting with a look of concern; the arms of Jisoo wrapped you in a firm hug. "I will not leave you alone ever again."

Without realizing it, you were already letting go of the tears that you refused to let go in public; you just wanted everything to end quickly, that your baby is born healthy and be able to give a better life in the small home you were planning to have. °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° You smiled at the dean of your faculty before leaving your office; He had approved you for taking the rest of your classes online, allowing you to move away from Seoul with your aunt and grandmother finally. After the meeting with Namjoon, you decided that the best thing would be to get away from the city to avoid future encounters with the rest of the members. Jisoo refused to let her best friend go, but you knew it was best for her, Doyoung could move in with her, and they could take their relationship to another level. Besides, life in Seoul was not the most favorable for a newborn's single and unemployed mother. The island of Jeju was much cheaper for you, and you already had a job secured there.

You couldn't prevent a smile from forming on your lips as you imagined your baby taking his first steps on the sand in the backyard of your grandmother's house. The happiness you had didn't last long when you saw two familiar faces of the big hit staff waiting for you outside the building of your faculty, you got closer and won several strange looks from the people around you. "Bang Pd wants to talk to you, says they have unresolved issues with you."

Possibly it was not a good idea to get in the van, but if you wanted to close the cycles, you had to talk to Bang Pd because if you didn't, he would harass you to make sure your little secret never came to light. As they got closer to the building, more panic would get in, and your baby's kicks were not helping you.

The looks of the staff members made you want to run away; you understood them only knew the version of the child they practically raised and not yours; the way to his office felt like the longest road you had ever walked; you felt as if you had murdered someone and you were already in death row.

"You can pass; they're already waiting for you," his secretary informed you without even looking at you in the eyes; you stopped in front of the door trying to calm down; you knew that Jungkook was going to be in that office. You were not ready to face him; you plan to tell your child, who was his o her father when his or her turn 18.

With Namjoon, you cried. You didn't know what to expect with Bang and Jungkook. In that case, you could not run away because you knew you were not going to get very far until security found you, so you just went into the office; your heart started beating fast when you saw the look without Bang Pd's emotions Jungkook's back.

"Sit down; I don't think that in your condition, it's good that you stand up for a long time," his voice was a bit hard. You could understand his concern; you wanted to understand his situation; both of you screwed up; if the press found out about your pregnancy, you were dead, his fans were going to kill you. You sat slowly, ignoring the look of jungkook. "How many months do you have?"

"5 months."

You gave Jungkook a brief look; you were surprised to notice how worn his face looked and the huge bags under his eyes.

"Do you already know what the sex is?"

"No, I'm going to meet my parents at the end of this week in Jeju to know the sex."

"Jeju?" You trembled a little when you heard his voice for the first time in months "It's the best for all the parts; I'll start from zero in Jeju with my aunt and maternal grandmother."

"And you didn't intend to tell the baby's father your decision?" You looked incredulous at Bang Pd; he can't be serious.

"What happens is that the baby's father four months ago told me that it was best that we got rid of the baby, and I don't have the heart to do that."

"It was the baby's end, not our relationship," Jungkook answered, frustrated.

"Since I knew I was pregnant, the baby became my priority, and if you didn't want it, then you didn't want me either."

Your baby was a part of you; if someone didn't want it, then they didn't love you, and the fact that he was saying that only made you want to hit him more.

"Bang Pd with all respect I don't understand what I'm doing here, I'm moving to an island away from all of you; I told Namjoon that I don't need anything from you, I just ask you to forget about me as I will try to do the same" You stay quiet trying to calm down "If you want I can sign a confidentiality agreement so that I can never talk to anyone about the identity of my baby's father."

Bang nodded at your words. "I'm glad you think about this situation; after talking with Jungkook, he wants to be responsible; he wants you to move in together in the apartment that he bought during the remainder of your pregnancy and after the baby is born, make a custody agreement."

"That's not going to happen," you answered dry, sharing custody with someone who didn't love the baby from the beginning; you turned to see Jungkook, who had his eyes on his lap "that's what you want?"

"Yes"

"Do you want to take my baby away?"

"I don't want to take it away; I just want us to share the responsibility of a mistake we both made; I know that at first, I don't react in the best way, but I am very sorry, and I miss you too much."

He was looking for you just because Namjoon forced him to take responsibility for his mistake, you could hear the emotions in Jungkook's voice, but he was not the person who spent four months under the prejudices of a closed-minded society, where a single young mother meant many wrong and shameful things.

"What do you want to get with this Jungkook? That I forget everything and jump back into your arms? "Your voice sounded hard and full of anger" I know that for you, it is not essential. "We're only going to be an hour and a half away," You answered with a playful look, earning a hit from her. "Jisoo is true. Jeju is only an hour and a half away by plane, and for you, I would answer the phone at any hour."

It had been three days since you last saw Jungkook, and you were grateful that no one from that company had tried to contact you. Still, one night unconsciously, you were looking for more Jungkook fansites to watch their photos or see their latest shows; you observed the apartment he had bought and fantasized about how your baby would be growing up among those luxurious walls. Until Jisoo entered your room and confiscated your phone and sent you to finish packing your last things, you were still waiting for the confirmation that your other belongings had arrived and that they didn't sink in the middle of the ocean.

Doyoung gave you a big hug lifting you slightly from the ground. "I'm going to miss you, cupcake" that stupid nickname, Doyoung put it on you the second week of your friendship, and you hated him completely, you hit him in the stomach "you should go before your flight left you."

You grabbed your little purse and headed for the door that indicated your ticket; you didn't look back because you knew you were going to break into tears and you would go back to your apartment with Jisoo.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° You sighed, frustrated when you saw your watch again, and you saw that it was already an hour of waiting for your aunt at the airport entrance. You were tired, the whole flight you feel dizzy, and you just wanted to get there and sleep

You grabbed your luggage, ready to take a taxi to your grandmother's house when you saw your aunt enter at full speed. "I am sorry, honey, but your grandmother and I lost track of time in the market."

You finished assembling your luggage with her help before looking inside the car, noticing the absence of your grandmother and the market's packages. 

"Where is Nana?"

"I had to leave her in the market to be able to come looking for you."

The way from the airport to the house was quick, your aunt was the happiest person you knew, not even when you met Hoseok did you change your opinion about your aunt, catch up with her, made you happy, you had missed your aunt.

"These are the keys to the house, and I recommend that you sleep a little because there is no food, and we are going to delay the cooking" she smiled before restarting the car.

You put your hand on your belly, caressing the place where he was giving his little kicks; you noticed that there was another car parked in the entrance of the house, but you ignored probably it is a neighbor's car, you were willing to enter and take hot bath and sleep until the next day, for your new job. "Friends are more than enough" he hugged you, you closed your eyes, inhaling the familiar floral scent that he always had, and he slowly separated from you. 

"Can I?" You nodded, taking his hand and placing it in your giant belly just where he was, baby Kicking.

You could not keep the smile that formed on your face thanks to the image of Jungkook looking with love at your belly and feel the kicks of the baby; you heard the click of a camera, causing both to look at the door where your aunt was taking photos.

"You will thank me in the future."

It would be a good photo for the baby's room; you just wished you were making the best decision on returning to Seoul with Jungkook.

Imagine: How do you see Isa, Lea, Xion, and Roxas settling down after the end of KH3. (Just prétend this is AU where Isa and his relationship with Lea gets proper treatment by the writers. Like they acknowledge his was possessed by Xemnas and we get the actual real Isa in the end).

Good question. I’ll be honest. This is one of the things that didn’t sit right with me about the KH3 ending. At all. Basically, Isa gave Roxas and Xion back to Lea as a present, and he shows more interest in sequel-bait girl than he does Lea. Roxas, Xion, and Lea are presented as being the “true” trio of friends. And it seemed like the story was suggesting that they would settle down and start a new life together—Twilight Town is their “true home” where they can finally start a happy life.

Pence: Do you guys think we’ll always be together like this?

Olette: I sure hope so.

Hayner: Huh? Where did that come from?

Pence: Oh, well, you know. Just thinking out loud.

Hayner: Well, I doubt we can be together forever. But isn’t that what growing up’s all about? What’s important isn’t how often we see each other, but how often we think about each other. Right?

The thing is, I never really saw Lea starting a new life with Roxas or Xion that way. To be honest, I always thought Ven would get Roxas�� memories, and Kairi would get Xion’s. Their trios would overlap, but they’d still have their original trio and go back to their original homes at the end. But we’re dealing with what’s canon here, so I’ll stick to that.

Axel: Well, just give her some time.

Roxas: Why?

Axel: Because if you rush in there and try to fix things, you’ll just press more buttons.

Roxas: Fine, whatever.

Axel: Ha ha. You’re all right, kid.

Roxas: Don’t call me “kid”!

Roxas and Xion don’t really have any place to call home from their past. The only places they called home were The World That Never Was (nope) and Twilight Town. I think if there’s any place they would settle down, it would be Twilight Town. Their fondest memories took place there. Plus, it’s where Hayner, Pence, and Olette live. And those characters are the same age as them. They would want to live a normal, happy life with kids their own age.

Xion: Good-bye, Roxas. See you again. I’m glad…I got to meet you. Oh…and of course, Axel, too. You’re both my best friends.

Roxas and Xion were very close. They got along and related to each other in a way that was qualitatively different than the way they related to Axel. They were intimate with each other. Axel wasn’t exactly a third wheel. But he was definitely a mentor figure, while they were true peers.

In Twilight Town, the sun glowed red as it set. From the top of a clock tower, Axel watched the sunset vaguely, a sea salt ice-cream in his hand.

The sound of the train could be heard; bells rang out. The fond sight of the sunset was the same as always.

Those three kids—dunno their names—are climbing the slope to the station, as usual. Yelling out as they kick a ball.

Those three are friends to the Roxas of another world. I hadn’t thought Roxas really noticed them. 

But… maybe Roxas always wanted to try out playing like that, Axel thought, emptily.

Roxas had no memories from when he was a human. So, I wouldn’t expect him to have memories of ever having played.

Axel watched the kids playing with the ball, distantly. The sea-salt ice cream in his hand dripped on his glove.

“Ah damn, it’s melting.”

Axel bit on the melting ice cream as he watched the kids below him. The clock tower’s bell rang out, telling the time.

I hate wasting time like this.

This is from the novel. It’s while Roxas is in the data Twilight Town, and Axel is searching for him, trying to bring him back to the Organization. Axel is extremely lonely, and he is desperately is hoping to get Roxas back. Then he sees Roxas playing innocently with a group of kids his own age. Axel knows that he is trying to bring him back to an evil organization, surrounded by adults with no hearts, who want to use him as a tool fight monsters and capture hearts.

Roxas: Sora’s waiting for me.

Axel: Yeah, I suppose he is. Man, this is some good ice cream, huh?

Roxas: Take care, okay?

Axel: Right back at ya…buddy.

And he realizes at that moment, just how selfish his wish is. Roxas deserves a better life than the one he would get by coming back with him. Axel can’t offer Roxas what Hayner, Pence, and Olette can. He knew this, and it made him feel like complete shit. He can’t bring himself to rip Roxas away from a life that makes him genuinely happy. His ice cream was melting, like it did when Roxas disappeared and he shed a tear for the first time.

Day 299: The Value of a Lie

Roxas doesn’t trust me after the whole Xion incident, but I can’t tell him the truth yet. So I keep lying. It’s no big deal when you’re a Nobody. There’s no guilt, no feeling at all. So why does it still sting, just a little, when I lie to him? All my dealings with Roxas give me this bizarre illusion of humanity.

One of the things I always loved about Axel’s friendships in Days, was that they weren’t black-and-white. A lot of people think their trio was just a cuddly group of ice cream buddies. But they weren’t. Axel is a really fucked up guy, emotionally speaking. He sincerely cared about Roxas and Xion. Very much. But his attachment was, in many ways, unhealthy.

He was totally emotionally dependent on them. He kidnapped Kairi just to see Roxas again. That’s how lonely he was. It’s not his fault for feeling like that, of course. His attachment to them was understandable and easily forgivable. He has been through hell and he needed emotional support; he’s only human. But their friendship was severely strained because of Axel’s very serious unresolved issues.

Axel: You really think the truth is going to make you feel better? It won’t.

Roxas: What makes you so sure? I have a right to know who I am! How did I get here? Why am I special? Where did I learn to use the Keyblade? I deserve those answers!

Axel: Roxas…

Roxas: Are you gonna tell me or not? Axel… Who am I?

Axel: You’ve just gotta trust me, Roxas.

Roxas: I don’t.

Axel: Hey, c'mon…

Roxas: If I can’t get answers here, I’ll get them somewhere else. Somebody knows where I came from. That’ll be the person I trust.

Axel wouldn’t tell Roxas the truth about his past. He knew it was wrong, and he felt bad for lying to Roxas. He says he kept the truth from him because knowing wouldn’t make him feel any better. But I think he was just projecting his own feelings onto Roxas. The real reason he kept it from him, is so that he wouldn’t leave the organization. He was afraid of being alone. He didn’t want to go through the same thing he went through with Isa. He has severe abandonment issues.

“What’s it like having a best friend?”

Stumped by that one, Axel turned to the sunset. Even if Nobodies could go around playacting friendship, Axel felt like pretending to be best friends was something else altogether. It just wasn’t in them. And he didn’t have a better answer.

He squinted in the blazing glow and finally said, “Couldn’t tell you. I haven’t got one.”

It’s not that I think their friendship was not genuine. I definitely think it was. But I always saw all of Axel’s “inseparable best friends” talk as his desperate attempt to recapture his lost childhood, and his broken friendship with Isa.

“Is that how to treat a best friend on coming back from completing a long mission!”

“I don’t recall becoming your best friend.”

Roxas got off the bed, and, ignoring Axel, turned his back and put on a black coat.

Axel said ‘best friend’. But that’s only playing at being human; it’s a relationship that we, Nobodies without hearts, aren’t supposed to have. But, within the organisation, I’ve become especially close to Axel—no, it’s a fact without mistake that we are closer than the other members, and I don’t really know how that relationship should be expressed.

In the short story “Roxas—Somewhere in Time”, Roxas actually thought the same as Axel. This is not long after Axel comes back from Castle Oblivion.

Xion: It’s for the good of everyone.

Axel: But how do you know that? Everybody thinks they’re right…

Xion: This is right.

Axel: They’re gonna destroy you!

Xion: Please don’t hold back, Axel. Promise.

Axel: What’s your problem? You both…think you can do whatever you want. Well, I’m sick of it. Go on, you just keep running. But I’ll always be there to bring you back!

Neither of them had a clue just how much pain he was in. They didn’t realize how needy, and desperately lonely he was.

Roxas: Are you worried about her, Axel?

Axel: Of course I am.

Roxas: Doesn’t seem like you.

Axel: What do you mean?

Roxas: You hate complications.

Roxas and Xion have no idea who Lea really is, or how complicated his feelings actually are.

Axel: Roxas… I meet up with you two every day for ice cream, right? Why do I do that?

Roxas: Huh?

Axel: I mean, you think about it, I don’t need to go out of my way, right?

Roxas: I guess not.

Axel: You wanna know why I do? Because you’re my best friends. The three of us…we’re inseparable.

Roxas: We are?

Axel: That’s right–get it memorized. And you know what? Best friends are willing to deal with complications.

Roxas: Yeah… Yeah, you said it.

They don’t understand that he meets up with them for himself—not them. He only said they’re inseparable best friends after Saïx called Xion broken and defective, and Axel told him to shut his mouth. Axel is heartbroken by the change in his friend. And he’s trying to cope by replacing what he lost. His comment about dealing with complications was directed at Saïx.

Saïx: Don’t think for a minute I believed that.

Axel: Believed what?

Saïx: That reprehensible performance.

Axel: Uh-huh, well… I’d better get over to Agrabah.

It was really sad, actually. Axel had tried to protect Roxas and Xion. She couldn’t use the Keyblade and they were worried what would happen if the organization found out. Axel stood up to Saïx and this bought them enough time for Xion to get her ability back. Saïx tells Axel off in a cold manner before he leaves, and says that they’ll work separately tomorrow. He’s unwilling to deal with any complications, like a true friend would. Xion gets her Keyblade ability back, and they are completely overjoyed. They hold hands and smile at each other. They can’t wait to tell Axel.

Xion: I’d like to dedicate this Keyblade summoning to my good friends Roxas and Axel.

Axel: Pfft, me? I didn’t do anything.

Xion: Sure you did. If you hadn’t spoken up for us this morning, me and Roxas would’ve had to split up.

Roxas: And then Xion might never have remembered how to use the Keyblade.

Xion: Thanks, Axel.

Axel: Ahem… How ‘bout an ice cream, then?

Xion: Huh?

Axel: Buy me one, and we’ll call it even.

Xion: Heh, you got it. Wait here, I’ll be right back!

When they come back and thank Axel, he was sitting on the clock tower by himself staring at the sunset. He was obviously thinking about how his relationship with Saïx is nothing like how it was with Isa. It’s incredibly painful for him. When Roxas and Xion thank him for standing up to Saïx, he doesn’t act enthusiastic. He gets uncomfortable. He hates the fact that he has to be caught in-between like that. He still has feelings for Isa, and he cares about Roxas and Xion. And it deeply hurts him that they can’t all get along.

Roxas: I hope we always have each other.

Xion: Yeah…

Axel: What’s gotten into you?

Roxas: I just…want these days to last forever. Hanging out, the ice cream, the sunsets…

Axel: Nothing lasts forever, man. Least of all for a bunch of Nobodies. But you know, we’ll still have each other…even if things change and we can’t do this anymore.

Roxas: Yeah?

Axel: As long as we remember each other, we’ll never be apart. Got it memorized?

Roxas: Ha ha, wow, Axel. That sounded ridiculous.

Axel: What? I thought it was pretty deep.

When Xion returns with the ice cream, this exchange happens. Roxas wanted things to last forever because he was in a terrific mood. Axel made his comment because he was feeling very sad. He says they’ll never be apart because he’s suffering from grief. The mood didn’t match, and Roxas could tell. He thought Axel’s comment sounded strange. It’s so obvious that this comment was directed at Isa.

It doesn’t mean he didn’t consider them true friends. But Axel is a full decade older than they are. It’s only natural that his relationship with them is of a different nature than his relationship with Isa was. Roxas and Xion are great. But they can never replace what he lost. And that’s what Axel was trying to do, in my opinion. He hadn’t dealt with the loss of Isa. He couldn’t. He didn’t know how. It’s too unbearable to accept. He said his memories never did him any good. He wanted to forget all of his pain. He was trying to fill in that void with his new friends. In a way, he was unintentionally using them as an emotional crutch.

Day 118: You Changed, Not Me

Talking to Roxas and Xion always brings back memories of my human life, back when I was a kid. It’s a weird sensation. I ought to be able to share all this with Saïx, but I just don’t feel like it anymore. It’s strange, but I’m content with just missing what’s gone. I’m not the one who changed. You did.

He’s “content” to miss what’s gone, because he feels like he can always keep Isa alive in his heart.

Axel: You know, memories of the stuff we couldn’t bear to lose, back when we couldn’t bear to lose it.

The only way he can cope with his new reality is believing he will never be apart from Isa, as long as he has the memories of him. The pain of losing Isa was unbearable to Axel. He can’t accept a reality where he and Isa are no longer inseparable. I found it absolutely heartbreaking.

Xion: But I thought we were friends.

Axel: Hey, I’m not about to tell you ALL my dark secrets. Got it memorized? I bet you keep a thing or two from me.

Roxas: I don’t have any dark secrets.

Axel: Ha ha, relax, would ya? I’m kidding. I just gotta keep my mouth shut about it, or else Saïx will get on my case. You know how he gets.

Isa is the only one Lea would be comfortable opening up to about his past. Because they are the only ones who could ever truly understand each other. He longed for someone to relate to on an adult level. Axel can’t be what Xion or Hayner are to Roxas. He can’t be a peer to him. And they can’t be his peers either. He longed to be intimate with Isa. No one else. And he knew that Roxas and Xion deserved to be around kids they could relate to on their own level, too.

Riku: Let’s go.

Axel: Go where? It’s not like we have homes to return to. We don’t exist, remember?

With Lea and Isa, I always imagined them going back to Radiant Garden together. That’s their home, just like the Land of Departure and Destiny Islands are the homes of the others. Yes, Twilight Town is important to Lea. It’s similar to how Radiant Garden is important to Sora. Leon and the gang are there.

Roxas: I guess everybody in the Organization is good at different things.

Axel: That’s right. Everybody’s unique.

Xion: Even Nobodies? Don’t you need a heart to be unique?

Axel: Oh, I think we have other things that set us apart. Like our pasts.

But it’s not his true home. Axel’s biggest wish was to go back to the past. It’s what he longed for more than anything else. His desire was not to start a new life. He wanted his old life back. 

Roxas: I have to find this Sora person, and freeing Kingdom Hearts is the only way! I want Xion back. I want my life back!

Just like Roxas wanted his life back when Xion was gone.

Roxas: What if we all ran off?

Xion: What?

Roxas: The three of us. Then we could always be together.

Xion: We don’t have any place to run.

(Axel says nothing)

Roxas: I know. Heh, I was just thinking out loud.

Axel: Well, even if things change, we’ll never be apart–

Xion: As long as we remember each other…right? Don’t worry, Axel–we got your hokey speech memorized.

Axel: Just checking.

When Xion suggested that the three of them run away together, Axel said nothing. Because he didn’t want to leave the organization. He didn’t want to give up on Isa. He still clung to the hope that he’d go back to normal if Kingdom Hearts was finished. He knew he’d never be able to live a happy life if he left Isa in the organization. He could never, ever just move on with his life like they could.

Axel: Most kids spend summer vacation just goofing off with their friends. They save the homework till the end and then help each other finish it.

Roxas: That sounds fun, I guess.

Axel: Yeah. I hadn’t really thought about it much since becoming a Nobody.

I actually agreed with Saïx when he made that comment in KH3 about Lea saying goodbye to his real home. I was so disappointed that he never went there in KH3, or had anything to say about it. But yeah, I think Lea and Isa would definitely settle down together. Their relationship would go back to the way it used to be, when they were inseparable. Isa is the one who needed to heal Lea’s pain. Roxas and Xion just cannot offer Lea what Isa does. They cannot heal the pain from his past. And that’s not the job of two kids, anyways.

Axel: Turn around and go home, Xion.

Xion: Axel, I’m remembering things… About who I was.

Axel: Well, stop remembering. Nothing good will come of it.

Xion: I have dreams every night. You’re in them, Axel!

Axel: Then they sure ain’t memories. How could I be part of your past? Use your head, Xion.

Xion: You can’t fool me. We’ve met before, Axel, right here in this castle!

Axel: Have not. Go home, Xion. Don’t keep Roxas waiting.

Xion: Please, Axel, just…help me! I need to know who I am.

I really disliked how KH3 was written in a way that made it seem like all Lea needed was a group hug from Roxas and Xion…and he’s totally moved on from his past. He’s 100% fine and happy as long as he can eat ice cream with them on the clock tower again. No. He was NOT a healthy or well-adjusted person. Roxas and Xion were the equivalent of a band-aid on a large, open, festering wound.

His relationship arc with Roxas should have ended with him learning to let go—accepting that it’s okay for Roxas to have a past, a normal life, and friends his own age. They’d always retain their friendship, of course. But it would no longer be strained by Lea’s neediness. Roxas’ whole existence shouldn’t revolve around being Axel’s ice cream buddy/security blanket. Yes, he cared about Axel.

But Roxas wanted more out of life than just hanging out with Axel and eating ice cream. That’s why he left Axel. Same with Xion. She needed to know where she came from, too, and she left. She wanted an identity outside of the Sea-salt trio. And Lea needs a life of his own, too. Isa was the only one who would actually want to be with Lea all the time and never, EVER leave him. I think that’s why he was created in the first place. The writers knew that having Lea’s happy ending revolve around two children didn’t seem satisfying.

3. Which starter sword did you pick? What is he doing now?

Kashuu Kiyomitsu. <3 I used to use him and Yasusada a lot because they were two of the swords I got to level 99 the quickest, but I haven’t used him in a while simply because I have stronger swords than him now that work better than I did before. I still love you, Kashuu!

4. Who is the first among your swords to reach the maximum level? What do you think of him?

I’m pretty sure it was Kogitsunemaru! I got him pretty early on as my first super rare sword, and so that’s one of the reasons I’m very fond of him. <3 He’s adorable and a sweetheart.

5. Who do you have in each of your squads, and how do you use them? If you haven’t unlocked all four teams yet, briefly describe how you plan to organize them.

Hate to disappoint, but I don’t really make much use of the separate teams lol; I just switch out people on Unit 2 depending on what the current event requires of me. Usually the team I like to go with is Jiroutachi, Taroutachi, Ishikimaru, and Iwatooshi all at level 99 and whatever two other strongest swords I have I think best fit, though now I can add Hotarumaru since he’s nearly at level 99 too, and I also finally have gotten a handful of kiwame tantous and a few kiwame wakizashis and uchigatanas, so I can use those too if I need to. Unit 1 I use solely to put an extra Yasusada I kept in the captain position so that he’s always my attendant sword and I always see him and hear his music on my citadel screen. >.>

6. Without considering the performance of the swords, which type of sword do you prefer?

Hmmm.... I guess the uchigatanas, since that category contains most of my favorites lol. But I love the tantous too; they’re so cute. ><

7. Next, we come to the usual questions. List the swords that you like and your thoughts on them.

Time to make this post unnecessarily long! :’D

Yamatonokami Yasusada - Hands down favorite sword in the game, he’s my pure precious child who needs a million hugs and love and comfort and he’s just.... ugh he’s so strong??? So brave? He’s so strong; he has one of the roughest pasts out of all the swords but he handles his grief so well. Anyone who thinks he’s whiny or annoying or talks about Okita too much can fight me, I dare you to. He tries so hard and has so much pain and passion and love inside of him; I know I wouldn’t be able to go through what he did and come out half as well... Also he’s just absolutely adorable, like my god how can you not love him.

Kashuu Kiyomitsu - Kashuu is amazing as well, and he also needs a million hugs and blankets ughhhhhh; his past too affected him terribly, and he closes himself off from it and tries to distance himself from it, the complete opposite of Yasusada, but it’s so obvious how much unresolved baggage he has. His insecurity about his poor place of “birth”, and his abandonment issues because of how he broke and had to be abandoned by Okita, both of which he tries to make up for/erase by making himself beautiful and hoping it will get him the praise and attention he wants from a new master, are all so sad. But it’s also so clear how much he deeply loved Okita and how he misses him as well, even if he’s conflicted about it and never lets it show because of what happened, and I hope that on his kiwame journey he will be able to truly realize and acknowledge this, and embrace the good parts of his past as a Shinsengumi sword.

Hachisuka Koutetsu - My ultimate favorite swords at the top of this ranking are the ones who I fell in love with through the TR musicals, and Hachisuka is definitely one of the ones where this is the most true, specifically with the second musical which focuses heavily on his relationship with his brother Nagasone, which is of course strained because of Hachisuka being a rare real koutetsu sword and Nagasone being a replica one, which Hachisuka uses to belittle him. Without giving spoilers, the musical’s version of Hachisuka forces him to spend extensive time with his brother as well as time in a situation in general that’s pretty alien to him, and he grows and changes as he ponders why exactly he feels the way he does, tries to figure out how Nagasone himself feels and why he acts the way he does, and eventually comes to a realization and understanding, and displays his acceptance of his brother in the most fitting and touching way possible. His development is sublime, and so this is my favorite version of Hachisuka and why I am so in love with him; there’s just so much potential with him and Nagasone’s relationship because of how different they are and their vastly different pasts (this applies to a lot of sword pairs, really), and so the musical Hachisuka is the one that’s canon in my mind. His kiwame just happened and I really, really, really hope it does a good job with him as well. <3

Nagasone Koutetsu - So of course Nagasone would be next lol, I love him a lot. He’s cool, funny, strong, pretty hot (lmao), and puts up with his brother’s shit so well, like damn that is some serious willpower. But he doesn’t let it get to him, because in reality he doesn’t care at all about being a “fake”, and I’m so proud of him for it. I still want to hug him though, because he still doesn’t deserve all those insults, and also because of course being a Shinsengumi sword is such pain and suffering :’’’’) and he has so much internalized grief, just like the other four do. Again, the second musical is mostly responsible for my love for him.

Izuminokami Kanesada - Katsugeki TR was my first introduction to the franchise, so even though I would later learn it characterized him prettyyyy badly lmao, I still fell in love with him first, like he was probably my first favorite sword when I still knew very little about TR. Now that I know that he’s really a giant dork with such a big heart and so much passion and drive and adorableness (just like Yasu), I love him so much. <333 He’s just so good. :’) The new musical is all about him and looking through it even without subtitles had my heart shattered into a million pieces for him; again, Shinsengumi swords automatically need a shitton of hugs and therapy, ugh.

Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki - HE’S JUST A GIANT ADORABLE PUPPY. HE IS AMAZING AND SUCH A SWEETHEART AND I LOVE HIM. I fell in love with him in Katsugeki first and episode 9 made me cry. :’) And I kept loving him. He seems very different in the new musical and it interests me; I can’t wait to see what he’s all about (and cry some more).

Horikawa Kunihiro - Of course I have to love Horikawa if I love Kane; he’s so sweet, and such a good support for the other Shinsengumi swords. He’s wonderful. <3

Ichigo Hitofuri - I love how pure he is as a big brother with the tantous, oh my GOD. It’s just the sweetest thing; he loves them all so much and they love him. ;____; <3 Also his design is gorgeous.

Kogitsunemaru - Like I said up there, first rare sword I got early on, so I’m partial to him. I love his design, and his creation myth. <3 He’s just so sweet.

Yagen Toushirou - He’s a great big brother to the little tantous <3 and I love how he’s their doctor in Hanamaru lol; it fits him.

Tonbokiri - I fell in love with him in Katsugeki; he’s a BIG PURE TEDDY BEAR WHO IS SO SWEET. how dare you make me think he was going to die Katsugeki wtf how could you do that. I desperately need to watch the musical with him in it nnnnngh.

Yamanbagiri Kunihiro - What a cutie, with his cape that he refuses to take off for poor Kasen to wash and his freaking dancing flower with its own little cape. I hope one day he gains self-confidence despite being a replica. :’) I dread the day the real one shows up, if he does.

Nikkari Aoe - Love his design, and just his general demeanor. And his backstory is badass.

Ookurikara - He’s pretty stoic, but I like whenever he loosens up a little and lets out a smile; it’s beautiful. <3

Imanotsurugi - The first musical made me love him; GIVE THIS CHILD A HUG, UGH. He deserves the world, and he and Iwatooshi are the cutest brother pair. ;____; <3

Sayo Samonji - AGAIN, GIVE THIS CHILD A HUG, MY GOD HIS PAST IS SO SAD LET ME HUG HIM AND TELL HIM I’M NOT GOING TO SELL HIM. D’:

Iwatooshi - The best big brother, and he’s been a saving grace to me in many a battle so how can I not love him.

Heshikiri Hasebe - He is so devoted to the saniwa, like oh my god bless his heart lmao; he’s utterly hilarious and wonderful.

Urashima Koutetsu - He’s the one thing Hachisuka and Nagasone will always put aside their differences for and it’s just the best thing ever, and he always tries to help them become closer... it’s so good, I love him. :’’’) <3

8. Are there any pairings that you like? If there, please list them. (No limit on type.)

Don’t ship anything in TR, never. My favorite brother relationships though are the Shinsengumi swords as a group, Yasu and Kashuu, Kane and Hori, Nagasone and Hachisuka, the Koutetsu bros group as a whole, the Samonji brothers group, Imanotsurugi and Iwatooshi, Gokotai and Nihongou, Gokotai and Tonbokiri, and the Toushirous and Ichigo.

9. Is your citadel an employee-friendly citadel or a black-hearted citadel that works your swords to the bone?

Well, I never break swords on purpose or leave them injured on purpose while I’m not using them, but I do send them out constantly in order to complete events, which sometimes involves sending them out while fatigued if I think I can still win with them being fatigued, soooooo that might be considered working them to the bone. *shot* But when there’s no event going on they all get to chill.

10. Have you ever done anything weird to your swords?

11. Have you ever broken a sword? What happened, and who did you break?

Nope, never; I take extra care to make sure I never do. I couldn’t stand breaking even another copy of one I already have lol.

12. Who loses troops the most in your citadel? And who is the most skilled at making troops?

I don’t know, no one seems to lose troops more than anyone else that I remember. And Yasusada is always my attendant sword so he always makes the troops lol.

13. Another common question: have you ever done something with all of your might in order to get a particular sword? Please describe what you did and the results.

Oh yeah, back when we had that series of weeks where there was a smithing campaign a week for six weeks straight, I blew a lot of money to get swords lmao. Spent money for Juzumaru and Oodenta, and got them and Monoyoshi. Wish I could have gotten the rest too but realistically that was a pretty good turnout, and I was happy with it; I have Sengo now because of the last event, and hopefully Kogarasumaru and Koryuu will come back later. The other most daunting time I had was the first Osaka castle treasure hunt event I was around for; I played relentlessly to get Hakata, Gotou, Shinano, and Houchou to drop, those evil little demons. Was dead of boredom by the end but I got them!!! Didn’t have time to even think about attempting Mouri lmao but luckily I got him easily in the next one, when they amped up his drop rate massively on floor 99 (thank god).

14. Are you superstitious? (www)

Nah, at least in terms of doing things in the game; I do think my luck comes in waves though and goes back and forth between TR and other gacha games lol.

15. What made you join the TKRB fandom in the beginning? How about now?

Joined because of Katsugeki, stayed because of the musicals. :’) <3

16. What do you think of the current maps? (For example: which map is good for training/grinding, which maps do you get lost in the most, which map do you want to burn?)

Meh, I’ve beaten them all now and don’t return to them much; I usually train in events instead that give a lot better EXP than the regular maps. Era 6 was a nightmare early on of course, but now it’s fine. 7-1 through 7-3 can burn in hell for how difficult they are though lmao; 7-4 is surprisingly easy if you trigger the long path. The worst thing about all maps tbh is the dice feature and not being able to choose your own paths (usually); I get that there needed to be an extra gimmick, but it’s truly terrible and unfair sometimes, like when you get right near the boss node with no one in the red for once and then the dice sends you into a dead end. :’’’)))) 3-4 can burn in hell for the first time I had to go through it to get to continue fffffffffffff

17. Are there any game systems or improvements that you hope DMM will implement?

I really, really would love for them to let you be able to turn off the spotlight search animation when scouting pre-battle, which takes up a good portion of battle time and is especially annoying when the scouting fails or when the battle is too easy for your formation choice to really matter, but I don’t think they will. :’D Just... speed up the map moving/battle process in general; letting you click through the EXP screen is a good start, more please. ....I also think that the game requires waaaaaaaaaaaay too much EXP for kiwame swords to the point where I don’t think they expect you to actually level them up a lot and just use them as they are (which.... you can’t just do because the uchigatanas suck at low levels as kiwame, and I dread the day the ootachis and naginatas get kiwames...), because no one possibly has that much time, so I wish they’d nerf the amount needed some, but I know they’re not going to do that lol.

18. If DMM cooperates on an event with another game/anime/etc., what would you like to see?

Not really sure... I haven’t started Bungou to Alchemist yet, but I intend to, and I know it’s the same concept as TR except with famous writers (I know this cause I’m a fan of the anime that uses the same concept, Bungou Stray Dogs), so I wonder what that kind of historical crossover would be like.

19. Have you spent money playing TKRB? If so, how much? If not, do you plan to?

Ohhhhh yes, as I said above lmao; I’ve probably spent like... $300 in total for materials, ofudas, and sword space... *sweats* I’m gonna need to buy new sword space really soon again, at least.

20. Is there any merchandise that you would like to buy or see?

Please, Good Smile, make nendoroids of Hachisuka and Nagasone already. There’s other ones I’d love too but those two in particular.... pls... I’d also love anime versions of the musicals, which won’t happen, but I can dream. </3

21. Have you done any fanwork (fanfiction, fanart, etc.)? If so, what?

Not yet, I do plan to though... definitely draw some of the boys, and I have a few fanfic ideas.... I just need to force myself to do research of Japanese history/culture because I’m so nervous about handling this kind of thing and afraid I’ll botch it OTL; I know the Shinsengumi members etc are fictionalized versions of them, but stilllllll I’m nervoussssss because they’re real people lol.

22. What do you think you are like as a saniwa?

I don’t know.... I’d like to think that I’d try to spend time with all of them so no one is left out *looks nervously at how I use the same swords over and over in-game haha*, and make sure that the ones who need it the most get the comfort and love and reassurance they need. Plenty of them are still healing from their pasts, and need space as well as hugs, and I’d want them to make sure they feel like they have all of what they need from and feel comfortable around me. <3 Overall I’d just want to be with all of them a lot, because they’re not my servants; we’re all one big family and they need me just as much as I need them.

23. If the government asked you to choose a sword to kill yourself with in terms of emergency, who would you pick?

WHY WOULD YOU ASK ME THIS. I couldn’t make any of them do this to me, never; that’d be horrible. Unless one of them insisted on it, though I can’t fathom who. But yeah, I’d let them choose if it absolutely had to be one of them, but otherwise I’d just do it to myself in some other way. D’: thinking about this upsets me greatly

24. The government has asked you to write a report: how would you describe the situation in your citadel?

We’re all good here, chilling out with a nice round 70 swords; Hachisuka is currently away on his kiwame journey and I and Urashima are eagerly awaiting his return, as is Nagasone, even if he won’t admit it. <3

25. What do you think of the Retrograding Army?

I hate them; they force my poor boys into such anguished and painful situations (usually having to cause their previous masters’ deaths when the HRA tries to keep them alive OTL), and they’re ugly, and the yaris and those kunai things are a goddamn pain in my ass in-game. *shot* They serve their purpose well enough as nebulous enemies to fight and to give the swords their missions, but I really wish we could just get some lore for this world already; where does the HRA come from, and why do they want to change history? Why are the saniwa’s swords the only ones who can defeat them? Why do the kebishii fight both us AND them? There’s just so much I want to know that I don’t think we’ll ever get answers to. :/

26. Lastly, please say something about TKRB from the bottom of your heart!

I love this franchise so so much; I never thought such a superficial concept such as anthropomorphic sword pretty boys would ever be something I would fall in love with lmao, but here we are. I really have the musicals to thank for my love though; they really use TR’s concept to its greatest potential, with all of the emotion that comes with having to face your turbulent past and trying to overcome it and move on, and having to deal with losing people you loved and looked up to (the animes do this too though, I’m not discrediting them). All of the boys are one giant family, and they love each other and have fun with each other and bond with each other and grieve with and support one another; it’s just so wholesome and poignant. :’) <3 Not to mention that it’s finally made me wake tf and learn some Japanese history already, smh. Thank you so much for existing, Touken Ranbu; I look forward to much more time being moved by you and also tearing my hair out over trying to get every new sword! ^_^ <3

Lucifer Season 5 Episode 11 Review: Resting Devil Face

“Don’t mysterious ways me; you just exploded a man.”

Grammar faux pas aside, Joan Osborne’s 1995 release raises a philosophical question that to this point has gleaned no satisfactory answer – “What if God was one of us?” I’m not sure we’ve gained much meaningful insight to this question, but Lucifer has a lot of fun exploring that scenario while at the same time addressing much of the pain with which so many of the characters continue to struggle. “Resting Devil Face” takes a multi-layered approach to examine the  emotional cost inherent in most parent/child relationships even when God happens to be your dad.

Though the primary relationship schism exists between Lucifer and his Father, a significant amount of soul searching takes place in “Resting Devil Face.” There always seems to be that one heart rending moment that sets Lucifer apart from the standard, episodic fantasy fare, and here, it’s the exchange that takes place between God and Mazikeen after she fails to carry through her attempt to murder Him. Maze sees herself as the other, and finds God’s declaration that she’s perfect as is, to be nothing more than a denial of what she sees as her truth. She desperately states that “a demon can’t grow a soul,” which is at the core of her self-loathing, but God’s response is both beautifully brief and spiritually awakening. “Can’t she?” And it’s at that moment the audience and Mazikeen recognize she had it in her the entire time, and her decision to not kill God provides enough proof to send her on a path toward psychological healing.

Those believers who insist on a strictly literal biblical interpretation may find fault with the narrative approach of making God appear fallible, but in doing so, they’d be missing the point of this unique allegorical approach. First of all, God makes the decision to hide His powers in baby Charlie’s rattle so that He can experience what it means to really be human, and to a certain extent what it means to be a celestial on Earth. Most importantly it gives him insight into Lucifer’s angst, and to a lesser extent that of Amenadiel’s as well. From the hilarious opening scene in which the brothers plan to confront their father about his need to return home, it’s clear the writers are at the top of their game. They find him at Lux in plumber’s attire attempting to fix a problem that may or may not actually exist, but it’s unclear whether Lucifer’s insistence he rest is because he’s having memory issues or because he wants to get him back in Heaven as quickly as possible. “It must be the seventh day somewhere,” Lucifer posits, making a witty, universal allusion that partiers everywhere understand.

The fun doesn’t end at Lux, however, Dear Old Dad shows up at the crime scene which features the murder of former boxing champion Albert “Almighty” Walcott, and a frustrated Chloe even asks God for the identity of the killer. “For once I don’t know,” he tells her, and it’s clear even he’s pleased with himself. Back at the precinct God experiences one of life’s inconsistencies when he encounters “brain freeze” while enjoying a tasty frozen treat. But it’s His inexperience at the undercover sting operation that nearly brings about the 1960’s anthem “God is Dead” as he blurts out the fact that Lucifer works for the police. Of course, the surprise here occurs when The Colonel punches God in the face prompting Lucifer to come to his Father’s aid. “No one lays hands on my Father,” he declares to more than just the drug dealers.

Lucifer Season 5 Episode 9 Review: Family Dinner

Has Lucifer reached a turning point in the quest to make peace with his Dad? He may not realize it, but it’s sure become clear to us. Back at the penthouse, Trixie’s unexpected appearance sets the stage for the lovely scene she has with Lucifer’s father at the train station. The two adorably sit and eat the sandwiches she’s packed while discussing what it is that’s really at play here. She admits she’s mad at Lucifer for leaving (his trip to “Florida” aka Hell) but it’s her mother’s sadness that strikes a nerve. The scene’s complexity expands when an eavesdropping Maze stands down from her plot to kill God. Is it God’s admission to Trixie that he’s made mistakes with Lucifer or the fading innocence of the young girl with whom she’s always been able to connect that stops Maze in her tracks?

Nevertheless, at the heart of “Resting Devil Face” is the acknowledgement that others can only know how we feel if we tell them, and while God may be omniscient, even He may have trouble getting inside the heads of His children. Naturally, Lucifer extends that metaphor to include the human members of Team Lucifer, and the hope here is that Chloe and Lucifer will be able to overcome the obstacles that presently keep them emotionally distant. All of this crystallizes in the tender moment between mother and daughter as Chloe recognizes her baby girl is growing more quickly than she realized. “I can tell you’re sad, mom,” Trixie admits, leading Chloe to acknowledge she needs to open up to Lucifer about her real feelings. I’m fairly certain she’s already done this, but perhaps she plans a new point of attack.

And in a series of narrative bombshells, God’s announcement that he plans to retire opens a wealth of narrative possibilities. Okay, but what exactly does that even mean? God’s been dropping hints since he turned up on Earth, and the memory issues he confesses to, seem to imply that His intellectual capacities have become compromised. Is that even possible? I mean, he’s the Supreme Being. Is this new development intended to be a metaphoric slap at a world that continues to abandon a belief in a higher power?  Is God giving up? Seems unlikely.
