Sigzai vs skk discourse is insane for number of reasons actually. listen i think sigzai is really cute and shit and i dont mind it at all but you have to have something wrong with you to think both of these actually compete in any way. Skk is literally ingrained as part of bsd lore whereas sigzai started as a borderline crack ship. Thats just my opinion tho. Peace and love

percy doing better than annabeth in college is one my favorite developments in the rrverse. if we reflect on percy and annabeth's academic upbringing. annabeth living at camp allowed her to receive accommodations for her adhd and dyslexia and surround herself with like-minded campers who had the same limitations. whereas percy was ridiculed, belittled, and routinely humiliated because of his adhd and dyslexia. even more so, percy's friends and family leave him out of the loop on so many important issue (no chb orientation film, no information about the great prophecy) which perpetuates his subpar confidence and self-esteem in his skills as a student and a demigod. but going to college at NRU changes his mindset because he receives the accommodations he should have gotten years ago and fucking thrives to the point of getting higher grades than annabeth — a person he deems way smarter and more prepared than him in every way. the most important thing percy is learning now is that a supportive environment makes all the difference, and he is more capable than he initially thought.

i know it’s like years old at this point but i love that one collab mumbo and grian did with tommyinnit bc it’s like the single most concentrated example i’ve seen of mumbo’s Chaos Nullification Powers

you get to see a bit of it on hermitcraft, mostly via his interactions with grian, but until seeing that collab it didn’t really hit me just how completely mumbo can no-sell other people’s attempts to control a situation. tommyinnit is possibly the single shoutiest, most chaotic minecraft youtuber out there, and in most videos i’ve seen he pretty much overwhelms everyone else and sets the tone for interactions because of this. but mumbo just. doesn’t let him. no matter how much tommy escalates in intensity, mumbo reacts with *exactly* the same energy he always does. grian largely comes across in the whole video as annoyed and reluctant to engage with the whole thing, but mumbo’s not even affected. he just rolls with anything he finds funny and basically ignores anything he disapproves of, only seeming more and more unflappable the harder anyone tries to get a rise out of him.

AND imo, this is the key to my favorite interpretation of him as a character

see, when the people around him are being more reasonable/calm, i think mumbo often comes across as anxious and a bit easily overwhelmed. the thing is, his nervous wet cat vibes do not scale. he has one setting. his responses to the last life ‘ah-ha!’ jokes and to hermitcraft 8 starting to crumble to pieces under a falling moon are almost identical.

mumbo jumbo is inexorably and eternally Just Some Guy, but that gets stranger and stranger the weirder his surroundings become. the giggly incredulousness that makes him an easy target for goofy puns looks Very different when it’s also his reaction to the impending end of the world.

every time someone (usually a trans woman) goes "hey based on [real world events] it looks like transfems are consistently persecuted significantly more than certain other groups in the lgbtq community" there's always someone ready to crawl out of the woodworks to say "umm the government hates us all equally 😇❤️ so what you just said was pointless" and if she responds with "no there are groups in the community with more privilege than others that puts us at an imbalance and we should be centering those who are most vulnerable" (or god forbid, she gets angry at someone essentially telling her to shut up) the response is always "stop dividing the community?? we need to stop this infighting!! this isn't the oppression olympics, you're just an FBI agent at this point 🙄"

the thing about Irondad is that i can make reality whatever i want and what i want is Tony being a cringe failure when it comes to the parenting side of things and Peter simultaneously being like "yeah he is a fucking loser" and "he's super smart though and learning from him has been awesome" and "but if he would be my dad that'd be cool." like Peter is an unreliable and a biased narrator at the same time so he thinks Tony is cool but in my eyes I know what he is. Tony is actually like "i would die for this kid" but having an emotional conversation feels like he's been asked to drag his bare ass across hot coals. he doesn't even know where to begin to accomplish that task. which is why Peter says things like "oh he doesn't say a lot of things to me about how he feels but i can read between the lines" and in his mind Tony says things that mean another thing but never are *quite* that thing. usually jokes that talk about what he means without having to say it or be vulnerable. in his POV he's freaking out that Peter is missing to the point of being physically ill about it, yet Peter couldn't imagine it's that bad or because losing *him* is the cause of that problem. that's how Irondad really is, and i can make it better because canon is my bitch now

Okay it's been several months and idk if I'm just not following the right blogs but I have not seen anyone talking about Chilchuck and Mickbell's one meeting so far in the anime.

Mickbell spends all that time beforehand trash talking Chilchuck, and the second things go to shit?

Chilchuck grabs that little scab, gets the most durable object in the entire area (Senshi's pot), and fucking high-tails it to cover.

The half-foots are the some of the few characters who don't need to be healed nor rezzed after that fight, and Mickbell doesn't even believe in the union and Chilchuck still does this!

Mickbell: I don't pay my union dues and I cross all the picket lines! Chilchuck nonetheless: Kid have I got a comprehensive healthcare plan for you and it's called: don't get flattened by the giant monster!

SPOILERS FOR MOUTHWASHING THE VIDEO GAME and also cw for sexual assault

for whatever reason I scrolled through the comments section on a couple youtube videos of people playing the game (bad idea do not do this) and it's so weird to me how people are writing like. full essays arguing that jimmy couldn't possibly have raped anya or that it was obviously consensual or someone else did it or if not then its not important to the story anyway. and most of these arguments seem to stem from the fact that in anya's interactions with him she's nice to him? which i pretty clearly read as appeasing behavior seeing as how everything she says is sandwiched between him being incredibly cruel to her and her trying to protect herself (eg. taking the gun so that even though curly won't let her use it to defend herself jimmy won't be able to hurt her with it). I think the reaction to anya is also kind of a mess since the character pov you have after the crash is jimmy, a person who anya might as well not exist to but is nevertheless the lens that the player is introduced to her through. like I think it's very telling that what haunts jimmy during the final nightmare sequence isn't anya herself but instead the horrible horse baby centipede thing and also the fact that, unique to her death over any other crewmate, the view of her is completely blocked off, like he fully refuses to even consider her as a person which tracks with his need to see himself as the hero! there's no justifying what he's done to her so to him her life can't be worth anything. personally (and tying into the argument of oh why even include it when it doesn't even matter) i think jimmy's treatment of anya is a really good representation of how misogyny and a mindset like jimmy's overlap, how that desire to hold power over other people and to be respected and to get everything he wants without taking anyone else into account gets directed at what he perceives to be the most vulnerable member of the crew even before he crashes the ship and kills them all. it's an attitude that reflects the real life conditions that often lead to sexual assault and it's part of what makes anya's story feel so real :(

Insane again thinking about Sonic and Tails

Everyone always talks about the ways in which Tails is dependent on or revolves around Sonic. We talk about the ways in which he's depended on Sonic to save him, the way he likes tagging along on journeys, the way Sonic has inspired him, the way he always maintains Sonic's plane, leaves his door open for him with place to rest and good food to eat

But we rarely talk about the ways in which Sonic is secretly dependent or reliant on Tails

In a large portion of the games, if Tails isn't straight up on the journey alongside him, Sonic has the security that Tails can communicate with him from afar, and Tails usually appears to help out at some point during one of Sonic’s solo journeys. He doesn't have to be without Tails for long

And we see what happens (especially in Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Prime) when Tails is inaccessible. In Frontiers, he wonders where Tails aloud is unprompted, wanting to find him. Sonic's other friends even convince him to bother with the secrets of the starfall islands because doing so may lead him to Tails. He wants to find Tails so Tails can make sense of what's happening. And in Prime, Sonic ends up scrambling without Tails around. Especially in Prime S1 while things make the least sense, he seeks out Tails first (and then later hopes variants other than Nine can fill Tails' role) because he trusts him. He trusts that if Tails is here, then he can just tell Sonic what to do (come up with a plan for him to execute). With Tails around, Sonic doesn’t have to worry about not understanding the situation because Tails can figure it out. Without Tails, Prime!Sonic often shifts between trying to handle things himself to the best of his knowledge while rolling with the punches, and deferring to someone he can trust as a smarter strategizer to tell him what to do (a role Nine fills most notably, but other characters such as Rebel and Shadow fill on the occasion).

Of course there's also the earlier mentioned way in which Tails takes care of Sonic as well. I'm sure Tails isn't Sonic's only friend that he could crash with, but it's Tails who goes to such lengths to open his arms for him. If Sonic wants to crash in an actual house, if he wants to eat his favorite food, if he just wants to hang out, or if he needs help, Tails's home is open to him, accommodating his every need.

In my eyes, Sonic is the one who is surprisingly codependent here, who flounders a bit when everything goes to shit, Tails is nowhere to be found and can't be contacted, and there's no one else that can help him make sense of things. He takes Tails with him on so many journeys, even in games like Colors, where Tails largely follows behind Sonic while Sonic does a lot of the physical work. Tails doesn't need to be "useful" to tag along. He likes having Tails around, he wants Tails around. When Tails can't go with him or it's something Sonic should go alone for, he can always communicate with him and hear his voice from afar. And I'd argue there are more examples than Sonic Prime that may demonstrate Sonic trying to find someone to fill Tails' role the first chance he can get when Tails isn't around and can't be contacted.

The conclusion here is that a lot of people talk about Tails being dependent on Sonic or revolving around him, but they truly are partners. Sonic wants to be around Tails at this point perhaps as much as Tails always wants to be around Sonic. The two are strong together, they fill each other's gaps in ability. They both feel more secure when the other is around, and they rely on each other's presence. They are each a comforting existence to the other in similar and different ways.
