Jilypad Week Day 4: Favorite type of story that you like to Read and/or Write for this ship?

There are so many types of stories that I love to read or would love to read / write in the future… so I made a list! Under the cut because this got long.

Established Jily falling for Sirius and trying to lure him into their bed/ relationship by any means necessary as an absolutely top tier fic plot that I cannot get enough of. Not only does it have James and Lily giving Sirius the love and attention and wooing he absolutely deserves, BUT Sirius can also be having major crisis at the same time. Sirius freaking out because he is already dealing with an inappropriate crush on his best friend, but now he’s also developing an EVEN MORE inappropriate crush on his best friend’s wife is just such a good time!! And it can include so many of my favourite tropes from the misunderstandings and mutual pining and obviousness. Wedding Jitters by @siriuslystarbucks has this kind of plot and its amazing! Maybe even my fav jilypad fic of all time.

Hot jilypad smut is always a winner. All three of them are far too attractive. Some favs in this catagory are Shh by penknife and Dark-haired men by julestales, Royalty by @jmagnabo92

Jilypad being brilliant, ruthless, capable and far too protective and loyal to each other during the war is another catagory of fics I love. These are two of my faves The Rule of Three by Ahida and Le Mot Vagabond by ironicallyinternational (both WIPs but moving toward  jilypad).

The three of them raising Harry together. I love the wholesomeness of this trope. But also love Pen’s metas on the three of them just being the hottest parents ever (which I want to link to but now can't find 😭😭 why is tumblr's search function like this 😭). And if raising Harry is paired with Jily trying to get Sirius into bed / a relationship with them (like type 1) then all the better!

(this turned into a bit of an unintentional list if my fav jilypad fics - I feel like they are always getting lost in my bookmarks so yay for a useful reference tool! Also I missed a whole bunch I am sure and there are probably another bunch I am yet to discover :))

And now onto the types of (or more ideas for) stories I would like to write or (preferably given my too long list of WIPs and lack of time) encourage someone to write so I can read haha:

I really want an atmospheric slow burn jily to jilypad story where the war takes a particularly nasty turn and to protect Harry, the three adults take Harry into hiding in the middle of nowhere. All they have is each other, they’re living off the land because they can’t be spotted even by muggles and maybe they aren’t allowed to use magic in case its traced. And by all rights they should be bored out of their minds, but they are just so grateful that they are all still alive. And Sirius, James and Lily just get closer and closer and the tension just builds and builds until suddenly it just snaps.

I’ve also fallen in love with war fic idea kind inspired by the Pearl Harbour movie (and also very much inspired by the Care of Magical Shippers podcast episode on Lilypad). James and Lily are together but James gets captured by death eaters and everybody think he's dead. Sirius and Lily lean on each other, grieving together, protecting each other and helping each other move on... then *things* happen between them. And they are riddled with guilt but James is dead, right? and surely he'd want them to be happy. But then James turns up alive! And everyone is drowning in guilt and feelings, both Sirius and James try to step out of the way of the other, because they love eo so much and want the other to be happy (even if it means they end up alone without either of the people they love). And Lily can't bring herself to make a decision because she loves them both so much. Everything is a big tangled mess until they release that nobody has to step aside as all three of them love each other, and its all gooey and happy in the end!

I know there are more too but I'm running out of time and this is way more than I expected to write so this will do :)

Hi, first off, thank you so much that is so sweet!! I am honoured you have read all of my work and enjoyed them.

As for recs, I don't have nearly as many as I should because I don't read nearly enough fanfiction. But I'll give a few of my favs. I'm adding a cut-off cause there's actually more for me to recommend than I thought. My absolute, absolute favourites are marked in purple.

Shadowzel:

True Silver - mylordshesacactus. M, with a lil smut. One-shot. A famed piece of work in the Shadowzel community and for good reason. It is so beautiful; I think this the best characterisation of Lae'zel I've ever seen. Its a comforting post-game piece, about Shadowheart riding to the Astral Plane with Lae'zel and figuring out parenting together.

though i burn, how could i fall? - Jazzfordshire. E, some smut. One-shot. Shadowheart and Lae'zel fall in love during the game, rewritten with a lot of beauty and passion and direct quotes from the game. Very tender. The first Shadowzel fic I ever read. It was amazing.

Born Again - realdustybones. So far, M. Ongoing. I was hooked on the first paragraph. Post-game, Selunite Shadowheart ventures to the Astral Plane to seek help from Lae'zel, leading the rebellion with Orpheus and Voss, as she has become pregnant with Shar's heir. Amazing description, amazing characterisation, and very intriguing plot.

to feel love (like a sinner) - mermaiddrunk. E, just very smutty. One-shot. Okay, so this is a sex pollen fic. But its got a lil twist. And the atmosphere and longing in this fic are amazing; the relationship between the two is also very well done. There's a bit where Shadowheart jokes about an owlbear that I love. And also its just v hot smut soooooo

An'geth - tieflingliker. E, lots of smut and kink. Complete. Based during the game, Shadowheart and Lae'zel have the famed Knife Scene and realise they have one thing in common: they both have a chastity belt for devotion to their respective Gods.

Losing My Religion - Rina114. E, lots of smut and mild kink. Ongoing, last updated in Jan. Two lonely gals, abandoned by their goddesses, seek that reverence in each other. Lovely. Shadowheart teaches Lae'zel to 'let go,' shall we say.

The Favourite Princess of Murder and Loss - Heckpup. E, violent and dead dove. One-shot. Shadowheart is the chosen of Bhaal and Shar alike. She puts Lae'zel through the torture. Not for the faint-hearted and very fucking tragic. But I do love my angst; fics being able to make me feel so much pain is very talented and reminds me I am an itty bitty baby human.

I Wanna Be Your Dog - meowff. E, lots of smut and horniness and longing. Ongoing. Last updated Nov. Maintenance worker / cam girl porn set up. Shouldn't work nearly as well as it does, but it is a masterpiece. Amazing description. Amazing modern characterisations. Has one of my favourite descriptions of Shadowheart, comparing her to old oil portraits. Beautiful. And, yes, very hot.

Bleeding Hearts - calorem. E, some smut. Ongoing. Last updated March. I've only read the first 3 chapters of this but its amazing so far. Fake dating Au with a dashing of murder and intrigue. We are all hungry for fake dating aus, lets face it.

Gone. - teiflingliker. M, pure fucking tragedy. One-shot. Selunite Shadowheart waits for Lae'zel, still loyal to Vlakiith, to come home. I just read this and oh boy do I need a cuddle. So sad. So beautiful. So hard to get through. Just so tragic.

Now, there are loads more amazing Shadowzel fics out there that I simply haven't had the chance to read. Cellphish, ToriWritesStories, larissel---everyone on the Shadowzel server does amazing work. They are all very passionate writers. Read any of them!

Other Pairings:

Dame Aylin's Home for Wayward Girls - SheOfBadIdeas. Shadowheart/Aylin/Isobel. E, very tender smut and lots of fluff. Very minor angst. Complete. What can I say about this fic? Converted me to the OT3 instantly. It is so tender and loving, and respectful and funny and healing. The characterisation, descriptions....it's all amazing.

Be My Comfort - MiPur. Shadowheart/Tav. E, tender and longing galore. Ongoing. Shadowheart works as an escort at Sharess' Caress, based in modern day. She meets Naivara, who hires her, and there's an immediate and intense connection between them and Shadowheart does not know why. Just very intriguing fic that has me trying to figure out what's going on. And for real, it is very tender. And we have Nym, who is a rare character in BG3 fics!

broken glass to diamonds - within_a_dream. Shadowheart/Aylin/Isobel. E, kink and mild smut but no sex scene. One-shot. Look, I read the 'human furniture' tag and I clicked on it without hesitation, ok? Its a nice lil one shot.

Break You In My Image - QueenMills. Shadowheart/Viconia DeVir (but also not really). E, dead dove. Complete. I've posted about this in an ask I received. The writer is just so smart and poetic. Its about Shadowheart's time at the cloister as an adult, immediately before she leaves on her mission to get the githyanki artefact. Its not for the faint of heart, though, because it is messed up (in the best way possible, you could analyse this fic for a literary essay I s2g).

Haunt Me. Love Me. Take Me Home. - QueenMills. Shadowheart/Shar. Shadowheart/Viconia DeVir. E, dead dove and strong themes of alcoholism, drug use, suicide. Ongoing, last updated Feb. Again just fuuuuuuuck, man. Shadowheart, messed up after her divorce from Lae'zel (and fucked up from an abusive relationship with her mother Viconia) goes to therapy. She falls in love with her therapist. Her therapist? Shar. Modern au. This author is a genius. I seriously feel like I'm reading a poem when I'm reading it; their writing style really gets you into the mindset of POV, and it's beautiful and fucked up.

Oh also, I like a few works by anotheropti - just read anything by them and you'll enjoy it. They got a lot of kink and I very much appreciate that. Most work centres Shadowheart/Tav.

And, obviously, I'm just going to say you should read any and every F/F Dark Justiciar fanfic that exists. The complexity and depths of her character are tragic and beautiful and amazing. And sadly I HAVEN'T READ ENOUGH OF THEM BECAUSE I'VE BEEN TOO BUSY WRITING MY OWN. (also pls pls pls people write more f/f dj shart fics I'm on my knees begging, I need more of this like the blood in my veins)

Top 10 Teen Wolf rarepair ships? 🤔

Ok ok ok so I had to think about this real hard and i worked on this list on and off throughout the day

I'll follow the rarepair criteria that @teenwolfrarepairevents uses which is less than 500 works on ao3.

1. Jackson/Scott - I loooooooove this ship. The teen wolf movie reawakened my love for this ship for no reason other than the fact that they were in one scene together. I love the dynamics between them and the whole one-sided rivalry Jackson has and LIKE S2!!! I can't think straight when the prison transport van scene exists where Jackson overhears the conversation between Scott, Stiles and Allison.

2. Boyd/Scott - I had one of the wildest and most enjoyable times writing Trespasser and this pairing is gourmet for me. GOURMET. I need to get weirder about this ship.

3. Lydia/Scott - this can go even rarepair-er by adding Jackson and making it an ot3. I love love love Scydia!!!

4. Jackson/Scott/Stiles - when my all-time fav ships are scackson, stackson and sciles, of course it has to evolve like a pokemon into the ultimate ot3 form!

5. Derek/Scott/Stiles - no long-winded explanation required. I just love this ot3. I think I have like 5 slice of life oneshots written with this ship but I've only uploaded 1 so far.

6. A mythical rarepair that I've never even spoken to anyone about but I keep getting reminded of how I would like to make a fic for this is Sean/Mason. Who on Earth is Sean? Sean is from the Walcott family who are the Wendigos that get killed by the Mute in S4. Sean's got a cat named Willow and that's pretty much all we know about him other than the whole Wendigo thing. One of the fic ideas I had is where Sean and Mason live on the same street and Willow keeps jumping over fences and going into Mason's backyard so he attaches a note to Willow's collar just saying hi and Willow comes back the next day with a different note from Sean and it's all cute and fluffy and no hurt all the comfort.

7. Allison/Derek - it's growing on me with every post I see about it on Tumblr reblogged by fellow mutuals. I need some fic recs for this ship.

8. Derek/Jackson - listen I know this has 5 over the 500 fic limit but this deserves a spot here. I need content on them so bad but I don't like reading pwp and smut all too much sooo yeah. (That's the case between me and a lot of the more "popular rarepairs" that I ship but that's life and I enjoy it sometimes)

9. Isaac/Jackson - I think about how they're neighbours A LOT like I just KNOW there's history between them. There's playdates and babysitting by Camden and going to school together and I die on the hill childhood bffs Isaac and Jackson.

10. Nogitsune | Void Stiles/Jackson - a very self indulgent dark ship. Thinking of the kanima dynamics and how the nogitsune would love to take control over a kanima if he could.

Ain't nothing complicated about having longer hair, Phil, come on. If we're getting s4, I'm gonna miss s3 hair SO. much. My fav haircut is s2 so far, but that longer hair in s3... Ahhh.

I'm not really sure how common this thing is in general, but my friend heard the same thing from another successful actor as well. It's really interesting to me since I've been writing for as long as I can remember myself. It's a hobby, sure, but I've never taken acting classes and was never interested in that. To see the opposite point of view is, again, interesting.

And the football matches is just... cute, if you will, considering Phil is still into that.

I think most of us knew this already because you can SEE it in Jamie and in Phil's acting as Jamie. However, actually reading this is... yeah. I'm rooting for ot3 & you can't stop me.

They're going to break my heart, and I feel it. It's really hard to start coming up with the terms that s3 is probably the last one. Finishing on s4 would feel right for me. I just... yeah, it hurts to think this might be the end. They do feel like a family. A sense of home if you will.

Sniffing and crying like an idiot. I'm not looking forward to ep12 if they're gonna announce that the show is cancelled. I obviously want to watch it, but I'm not ready for this to end. I'm glad it's not straightforward, it does feel really fitting for Jamie (not to mention there's also Roy and Keeley in the picture, so maybe we'll get a bit of that). Still, I am not ready. I love this show so much, it's the ultimate comfort that helped me after losing my parents in 2021.

Aura are you dating my partner's mother? Nahyuta finds out and he and Athena start a support group for the children of Aura's partners. Apollo shows up when he starts getting letters from them. Aura takes her role of step mother very seriously (read: she really likes to fuck with them). Rayfa doesn't call into meetings unless she's mad at Aura bc otherwise they get along.

And Aura genuinely likes Amara and helps her through everything. They actually have a lot in common.

idea for a story: i have billions. i never stop emotionally tormenting this man. got a 20 years post cf angstfest about he and felix coming. beyond that i am obsessed with the prospect of a sylvain/mercedes/ingrid ot3 and someday i am going write a fic with them that isn’t just the extensive smut that currently exists in my google docs

fav relationship: i have got to go with ingrid. i do very much ship sylgrid romantically and they make me sooooooooo unwell but even if i didn’t their friendship is just so important to me in a way i really struggle to put words to. the way they understand each other perfectly but that makes it almost harder for them to get through to each other because of all the layers of bullshit they have built up around the true version of themselves that the other sees. they bump heads a lot but the way it’s so obvious that under whatever they might be clashing about and the baggage of their years of friendship there is this foundation of unconditional love that is not going anywhere no matter what oh god suddenly i cant see the screen and there’s something happening to my eyes oh god

a fun thing about sylvain is that i could write equally unhinged paragraphs about his relationships with mercedes and dorothea!! something about girls he would normally flirt with and their response is :) hey i see you btw! and sylvain is forced to crumble like a little baby. i cannot get enough of that shit. get seen idiot. i’ve also been known to enjoy some yurivain and dimivain and claudevain for not dissimilar reasons.

unpopular opinion: once again idk what is popular!! i feel like my shipping tastes with him are not the most popular but everyone is nice to me when i talk about them so. it’s all good

favorite headcanon: most bisexual man on the planet. i also love making him work service jobs lmao. he works at subway in my sylgrid fic but there are so many other things i want to subject him to. he should have to sing happy birthday to people at applebees. he should be a barista at a shitty coffee shop. mostly this is because it’s funny but i also think would be deeply in character for sylvain to plant himself somewhere far below his skill level and languish there as if there were nothing else he could do about it.

Hello! I’m sorry that today I come without any fun toku questions. I must say I enjoy reading your Boomger stuff on forsaken bird app! Love me a pathetic Blue also.

I wanted to ask whether you have a perfume recommendation for a beginner. I can’t tell you much about my skin, my usual preference at least so far is opposite of what your skin likes. I like citrus and jasmine and I know it isn’t suitable for your skin 😅 Current perfume I have might smell like citrus dish soap (I don’t mind it much) or simply citrus with its bitterness and freshness depending on a day. Yet my head might hurt from salt in perfume for example. Overall I might enjoy to smell a lot of stuff, but can’t wear anything heavy. Anyway, I thought you still might suggest something/know something good, you’re great at perfume stuff 🥰 Sorry if it is something hard, I understand if you can’t suggest me anything. ☺️

From your perfume recs I liked JHAG’s Not A Perfume because it is light and I think it suits me! At least it doesn’t smell like shit, lol (had this experience with Kenzo’s L'eau Pour Femme ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

don't apologise, I appreciate that I'm being thought of as someone with good advice lol! Not A Perfume is a fave of mine too, it's a shame so many people have the gene that means they completely can't smell it. I think it's a really sexy scent!

As for jasmine, I actually really love it! I don't wear it a huge amount bc most of the time it's not paired with the heavier woodsier notes I like and like... I have a giant jasmine plant out the front of my house, so I don't miss the scent too much when I'm not wearing it. That said, I like Lush's Vanillary which as you might guess is a pretty heavy vanilla scent but it has a great jasmine note in it as well as tonka (and lasts FOREVER even on my perfume-killer skin, really, I could still smell it after 5 drinks and 4 hours of sweaty dancing at Emo Nite lmao so be careful with your sprays...), and J'Adore Dior is a girly classic for a reason. There was also a relatively recent Gucci perfume that I liked a lot but I don't remember which one it was and there are multiple that have jasmine in their ugly floral bottle range so you'll just have to try them all I guess lol sorry. These should all be pretty easy to find and try tho!

And I'm glad you're enjoying my Boonboomger thread (it's no surprise to say I love pathetic blues too right lol) and enjoyed my Zenkaiger one! Zenkaiger is seriously insanely good, Donbros gets so much attention and praise for being The Best Sentai Ever I think because it was just so many people's first sentai (and/or first Inoue toku, whereas I know him VERY well lol) and it was fairly unusual in structure while still being entertaining but Zenkaiger I think really deserves that title if you were going to choose anything from Reiwa because it is so sentai. I liked Donbrothers and I LOVED Kingohger but both of them clearly were going "HEH we're not like OTHER sentais!!!!" and Inoue for his part seemed to actively hate a lot of what makes sentai sentai lol. Again I liked Donbrothers a lot but lbr it's basically just one of his Kamen Rider shows but brighter coloured.

As for zenkai ot3... I would like to write something for them some day, but it is difficult to think of something when the show is just so cute. I'm not someone who's good at writing fluff, really, and they demand it. My speciality is political underhandedness, moral ambiguity and veiled but burning hot eroticism. I think John Toei made Kaguragi for me specifically

Kyouya is def my fav so I have waaay more for him but I do have some for Katia and Shun (probably more on Shun just cause we get more from his perspective in the Novel)! As a massive Shipper again most of them revolve around my OT3 (I have no shame there haha).

Heads up for Spoiler Warning (I think I give mostly vague Spoiler for the entire series but except the Kumoko/Wakaba thing is directly said).

(Again I’m ripping this from my KumoDesu Fanfic ideas Doc so if some of the wording is wonky that’s why because it’s older and I write this just to get my thoughts down).

Trans Katia: Update: 16 novels we get two chapters from Katia’s perspective but I think there is one or two more shorts from her perspective in the Ex-Ex2. Okay so far in all 12 novels we get one (1) chapter from Katia’s perspective so there’s not a lot to go off but Katia was definitely closeted/uncracked egg Trans Girl in her past life fight me. Cracking the egg/getting outed via isekai lol. Out of roughly 30 reincarnations Katia is is the only one that switched gender and it’s explained (aside from Oka which D did just to cause trouble) the system puts them in bodies that best fit their soul this being why some characters reincarnated as not humans and why Katia is a girl. So the only characters who changed gender or race are Katia, Fei, Sophia, Kyouya, and Oka who doesn’t count in this. Shiro was always a spider thus why she is a spider. Kyouya deeply agreed with the Goblin’s mentalities and morals. We see later that Fei’s personality and morals really fits with the dragon's code of conduct. Sophia being a vampire isn’t super explained and more how people viewed her. So like failing in line Katia must be a Trans Woman basically.

Katia Anxiety: I think Katia is very protective of her boys. It’s kinda obvious when she meets Shun again and then when they get in dangerous situations. She’s so scared of losing the people she cares about (I think she’s often the most aware of how different and how dangerous the fantasy world is compared to their previous lives). I think the realization Kyouya probably isn’t on their side (because of how Oka kept avoiding the topic) probably hurt her a lot, because she doesn’t want to abandon him but also is too scared about losing Shun as it is (and I feel like when she puts everything together after the fact she feels super guilty for not pressing more). It kinda seemed she really didn’t have many people she was close to in her past life and the fact that Shun (and I’m gonna Headcanon here later Kyouya) still accept her despite everything that’s “different” (cough cough eye cracked) is huge to her. I’m glad in the Novel Shun always does a very good job conveying how much he appreciates, relays on, and trusts her because god she needs it.

Shun and Julius: The fun part about Shun as a Character is he is painfully aware how much of an NPC he is and that he doesn’t fit the role of Hero. Which is why I think he looks up to Julius so much and later on tries to emulate him. He quite frankly knows he has NO IDEA what he is doing and wants to be as level headed and smart as Julius. I think that his idol-like obsession with Julius comes from his own insecurities.

Shun, Katia, and Kyouya are Weird (aka Poly):“They're weird about each other” is one of my favorite Shipping reasons because it’s so true. I mean Shun and Katia are pretty solid in Canon and I would say I’m just adding Kyouya to it to make it an OT3 but also once I see it I can’t unsee it. Just the fact that all 3 of them single out their “Friendship” as something special. I don’t think Katia super had other friends in her past life (being an uncracked egg will make that hard) but Shun and Kyouya did and they never really mention it. Shun was peak NPC and was not super close but friendly to most of the guys but he NEVER mentions it until running into them again (apparently he was on a soccer team and just, never thought it was important or that big a deal). And it’s Shiro who mentions it seems like Kyouya and Shinobu were friends in their past life, Kyouya barely mentions it even after seeing him again. Just the “you're weird about each other” being a way of saying “that’s a little more than a friendship I think” basically.

Polyamorous not having Legal Marriage: So at the end of Volume 16 they mention that nothing is know about Shun’s love life, which might mean he never legally married. Now I like think Shun and Katia legally married and then Kyouya is their lover (they have a non-legal marriage for the 3 of them in private). But I am just saying this can support my Ship because Polyamory isn’t really that accepted publicly so they keep it secret (open secret among their friends though). It’s sort of an AU but I’m just saying.

Shun Salaryman: So it says at the end of Vol 16 Shun goes back to help his Brother and all I can think is he’s finally becomes a Salaryman. Imagine he helps with all the paperwork instead of decision making. And he’s really good at it to the point of everyone’s surprise. He finally realized JUST how lost he was trying to be a Hero (he always sort of knew but now that he’s found his calling it’s super obvious to everyone else as well).

Shun’s Accidental Rizz: So we see that Shun is always ridiculous earnest about his feelings and has no qualms expressing his appreciation (we see this most to Katia early on where he always thanks her for helping him). So I like to think for my OT3 he accidentally says the most romantic shit to Katia and Kyouya all the time unprompted because he’s just being honest about it (Kyouya Bluescreens because he’s so unused to verbal affection (he likes it he’s just used to the Demon Army’s brand of nonverbal love) and Katia goes Tsundere Mode when flustered).

Shun Perception Check: Shun is both really perceptive and an idiot at the same time. So he is able to perceive all sorts of little subtle tells that others can’t but at the same time has no idea how to process what they actually mean.

Shun: Shun is an Emotional Support Dumbass. And anyone who hates him (usually people who only saw his botched Anime version) can meet me in the pit. I also think his general easy going-ness probably helped both Katia and Kyouya a lot in their past lives (because it seemed like neither of them had the easiest home life’s and then they have it rough again after being reincarnated rip).

⭐ For any part you like to talk about (preferably from your Soulmate AU☀️🌕🌟)💖

I never can decide on anything, or even a specific part, so let me just ramble a bit about it^^

For starters, this was my first soulmate project ever, and while I am not the biggest fan of the trope (it can be so cliche if done without proper inspiration), I got reminded of a fic I read in another fandom, and oh the drama and hurt, I just couldn't resist putting my favs though it as well.

It was also the first fic where I included my now favourite OT3 ship (apart from a short febuwhump prompt). So many firsts!

I think for this AU I did the most planning I ever did for a fic, meaning chapter outlines, what exactly I want to include, I had a big doc of inpsiration of dialogue and scenes etc. But even though I did that a lot changed thoughout the story, sometimes I just went with the flow, for example in chapter 8 where Aleksi has this big blowout with Joel and Joonas, and it's all a big misunderstanding.

With the argument I only knew the start and and the end, but between that it was complete spontaneity, with what would sound natural, what would make sense, and how for Aleksi, and for Joel and Joonas this is a complete different situation, they are playing two seperate parts here with different understandings and goals, and I really wanted it to be frustrating for a the reader, because at some point they will have to find together, right? But it didn't feel right for Aleksi's character at all to be so quick to fall into this.

Now even Joonas seemed to lose his patience and ran both his hands over his face. “No, that’s not how it is at all. We really like you and not just as a casual hook -”

(All they want is a chance, but there's not breaking through at this point of the story, it's too early)

“I’m not stupid, okay?!” Aleksi yelled at them. His hands fell from his arms and tightened into fists. “I’ve seen your mark, I know you’re waiting for someone else, so don’t pretend I’m so important to you when I’m not.” 

(At least Aleksi has grown over the time enough to stand up for himself now, I doubt it would have been the same in school)

This is why in chapter 9, I first had to establish a curve of his character that made sense for Aleksi to finally allow himself to trust, and boy was that difficult. I love love love leaning into character's feelings and thoughts, as difficult as it is sometimes, but I have to admit I'm really proud on how this one turned out.

And yet when it comes to the scene of Aleksi inviting Joel and Joonas in, I couldn't give it the happy ending yet. There was still a point of pessimism, the hint that Aleksi will get hurt, because after years and years of pain it didn't make sense for me to make a fairy tail ending out of this so quickly. And I had to span the character arc a little longer (and I really hope it wasn't too much at this point).

"Because let’s be real, he was far from perfect, and he knew that best out of all people. How long could it take them to realize that too? Obviously they had this picture of him in their heads that they were chasing and once they had him they would be disappointed."

"But no, they had betrayed and hurt him, who was to say Joel and Joonas couldn’t do that too despite saying they liked him? At the latest when they found their soulmate and let go of Aleksi."

But I think in the end it was worth it. This part of the fic really was hard work for me, and Aleksi's character ran away from me and my plans (ryyyd😄), but it was also very much fun to write it.

This ramble is ultimately gonna be just me turning Taika Waititi over slowly in my hands, but.

I've talked before about unpacking the reasons why I rarely ever go feral for m/m ships in fandom. Like, I ALWAYS enjoy and appreciate a well-written gay ship, of course, be it in canon or fanwork (Good Omens eyy). But as far as deeply connecting to, blorbo-ing, whatever the kids say now, it just...almost never happens.

(also trans men are men, trans women are women, so write that down)

Now for a long time I thought it was just the contrarian nature that was particularly strong in me between my late teens all through my 20s. Like "uuuuugh they're great but y'all are soooooo annoying, etc etc." and even some of ye olde "aren't you guys all women? this is fetishizing gay men blah blah"

Well-intentioned, and widely shared in fandom spaces 10ish years ago, but deeply misguided, wrong 99.9% of the times, and most of us know better now. Especially as we all got older and OH HAY! Lots of those women weren't actually women, gender was being discovered within these characters for them all around!

So with that thinking deconstructed and left behind, I still found myself not fav-ing the boys very often. What was left after my own gender and sexuality work on myself was OH! I just...don't see myself in men! In fact, despite always knowing I was bi, I am waaaaay more sapphic than I ever realized! I want to see women being loved, giving love, loving each other, that's what I go feral over. That's what latches onto my heart and fixates my brain - there's gotta be a woman. Is it 2 women? An OT3? A het-appearing ship? A pile of lesbians? It will be my jam.

All that said, the two m/m gay ships that HAVE made me go feral in recent years? Both birthed by Taika.

Ed/Stede and Nandor/Guillermo. I weep, I claw my face at the softness, the miscommunication, the FEAR of showing softness. And as Kate summed it up once, "Unwashed Hottie/Person Who Brings Outfits".

I am wildly interested in every theory, knowing the above about myself, as to how it is he's the one to get me right in the gut with The Lads. Lots of people talk about his humor being uniquely indigenous, a kind of deeply kind sarcasm. He's a dad of girls. He's messed up some relationships big time. What's in your sauce, sir.

Im really sorry to hear you've been getting ship hate, whether its from AiYuu shippers or otherwise (though im interested to know which types you've faced, i've personally faced hate from yuuhiyo shippers as far back as 5 years ago when i made a jokey comment on the Non Fantasy MV about them probably either being a ot3 or even aiyuu. That's why im more comfortable with liphiyo than i am with singular ships ( just aihiyo or just yuuhiyo). Truly, the early gen1 and gen2 were much peaceful fandoms. The presence of reactionary fans is proof that our little corner of the internet is pretty big now!
