YT showed me a dub clip of the battle between Friede and Amethio in HZ025, specifically the scene when Friede uses Terastal to beat Amethio.

I checked it out to see how it was, and the original line when Friede says "sorry, you forced me to stop holding back" was changed slightly. Friede also apologized there, and said something along the lines of "I had to stop things from escalating", which I thought was interesting.

#thylacines can talk #faaf au #i love this au very yummy. a very fun twist on how Flower's dynamic with their parents would progress afterwards #the vessels live but the void exits their bodies in quite a violent manner (extreme pain and literally throwing up an entire person worth of #void). Flower was on guard duty and theyre found barely conscious in a pool of rapidly evaporating void. passes out seconds later #PK also had the displeasure of experiencing extene pain and burning as void forced its way out through his skin <3 And his moulds all melted #and evaporated. after the initial shock wears off theyre hit with “Oh No #the vessel“ and rush to find them. Well somebody else was already looking for the royal pair about this #Flower wakes up dazed and in pain in their father's workshop. their stomach hurts their throat burns and they feel lightheaded. the entire #place is considerably brighter than they remember and in they can hear two faint voices in the background but theyre too preoccupied with #examining their now pure white hand in shock to focus on anything else. until they hear their mother say “My wyrm they're awake” and #suddenly their parents are by their side. Now the two have no idea what void leaving their body might have done to them. Are they still #hollow? are they still dead? do they understand anything are they sentient? or was what was done pernament even without the void? do they #have the mind of a child if their sentience was restored? or do they remember anything? So WL stays by their side and helps them sit up #while their father goes to grab his tools. She's trying to keep them calm and comfort them but theyre still too disoriented to pay her much #attention. Until their father checks their breathing and they yelp audibly from the cool metal contacting their skin and suddenly they seem #much more alert. theyve never experienced true coldness before. PK quickly apologises and tries to be gentler with them. Theyre breathing #properly and they have a heartbeat. And he just pauses for a long while just. listening to their heart beating. Many emotions to be had #after the exam's over he asks them point blank how theyre feeling. And Flower looks up at him still seeming a little disoriented. and then #they lower their hand to their stomach and mutter 'My tummy hurts...a-and my throat burns'. It's to be expected after the way the void #left their body. so he goes to grab them some water and meds and they also ask for food and a mirror. And after he returns they just stare #at themself in the mirror and pull on their bangs for a while then blurt out 'I have your eyes' when PK asks if everything's okay. And he #and he almost chokes up as he replies 'Yeah...Yeah you do'. Flower eventually spins a lie that they remember everything but its all distant #and blurry. Like they were not aware until now. They figured it'd be better to not break their hearts #And now the three have to figure out how to be a family while PK is also scrambling to find a new solution to the infection #oops i meant to only give a brief rundown in the tags which is why it was in the tags. but i got too invested KDHDKFB

Anyways. Finished Yumi atNP. The Realmatic theory wheels are turning so I'm doing a singular post vomiting my thoughts. Major spoilers. Not a book review.

So assuming the Machine (or even cosmere at large) didn't just schlorp most of Yumi's investiture upon its destruction, which is a valid assumption since she nearly died, she technically still is Very Fucking Invested. According to Design, Elantrian level.

Which side note, interesting how we got confirmation that Elantrians have more magic than Returned. The bastards have to die, see the future, come back and eat souls to persist, meanwhile the silver people just automatically get the cool shit with no maintenance. Making up for the 10 years a zombie, I guess. Is Endowment stingier than we thought?

This, honestly explains how Nikaro was able to bring her back with his painting given there's a direct correlation between the amount of investiture a cognitive shadow has and how long they persist upon death.

That does bring me to the thought of if the Machine's repeated amnesia prevented... let's go with the term Sprenification of Yumi's cognitive shadow. As Vasher explained to Kaladin, as cognitive shadows persist in time, they more they're made to embody core aspects of their Identity in order to survive. Yumi has been dead for 1700 years.

You can rationalize this as the Machine pruning her Cognitive development. Then again, her mastery of stacking (which honestly very fun talent, love that for her). I haven't read TLM (despite having it digitally), but it's been discussed that Kelsier may already be undergoing that process, and he's been dead for only <400 years, so 1700 is a lot.

If not, I wonder if Yumi is now immortal because she is (was?) more invested than a Returned. That does mean she might eventually undergo Sprenification, if it hasn't occurred already.

Speaking of, I like how... a lot of the magic is just... not really elaborated on. Unlike other Cosmere books, where their fight scenes live and die on how meticulous use of the magic by our protagonists, and Sanderson likes to stress that there is a correlation of an audience's understanding and narrative problem solving regarding magic. It's... a big reason why there was that pre-Sanderlanche exposition dump. I'm wondering if there was a better way to relegate that information.

Anyways, the pre-existing magic system's primary basis is built on the pre-existing foundation of Realmatics and Perception. Expectation and perception shapes outcome. If you image the Nightmare as bamboo, it is bamboo. If you shove the soul of a 19 year old highly invested yokihijo into the body of an art school drop out, shit dude, that's her's now. With the dissipation of the Shroud I'm curious as to how art can influence the world from there. Can paintings more readily dictate the shape of spirits, due to their similarities to the Nightmares? This magic system I think is the softest of the lot, and I actually find that pretty cool.

Lastly before I wrap this up, while Sanderson has introduced cosmere soceities inspired by non-european cultures, (on multiple planets, no less), it feels especially palpable with this setting. While Roshar is decidedly not European but it's also familiar enough that whitewashing is an active problem within fan spaces. Meanwhile, here, it's so in your face about being not European that people have no excuse (as if they had any to begin with), but maybe I'm too much of a weeb that catching details was easier for me than others. It's cool, though,, we get to see snapshots of the culture as it develops through time, which is only really exemplified in the Mistborn novels so far. Not really relevant to magic but a musing nonetheless.

#just watched s 2 ep 7 of the vampire show #and these are just some ramblings that hopefully will not offend fans of the show im just trying to articulate my thoughts to myself #i think it was a cool idea to turn their trial into one of the theatrical performances onstage #however im still annoyed at how the domestic violence episode happened and was apparently a real thing #like idk it just ruins the whole vibe in the book of how these characters were living together doing awful things to humans yet #somehow mostly carrying on in civilized peace and not ever directing that violence toward each other for decades on end #this choice messes up the characterizations and relationship dynamics too much for me somehow #also messes up the aesthetics that are a delicate balance between the savage and grotesque and polite and refined #it was important to me that lestat wasnt the one to first cross that line in the books and that claudia was #i feel like kinda the one thing that lestat had going for him in the first book as a standalone story #was that he didnt ever cross certain lines with louis and claudia that the show made him cross there?#he seemed to have a different inner set of rules when it came to what violence he would do to humans and what he would do to them #it's hard to even articulate what kind of shittiness is a dealbreaker in a character or a ship to me #especially when theyre constantly doing stuff like feeding on people to stay alive #but for some reason lestat and louis beating the shit out of each other is just such a nonsense ooc thing to make them do in my opinion #also claudia in the book was valid for what she did to lestat already i thought. i dont see why they had to change or add to the motives #she was turned into a vampire at age 5 and therefore almost purely a vampire in nature and also totally valid in not being happy about it #and in the books lestat made her a vampire on his own after louis fed on her and they did not discuss it beforehand #and he never mentioned rules about a child vampire being forbidden and louis did not beg him to do it. in fact one of the biggest reasons #that louis and claudia decide to turn on lestat is because theyre convinced hes just pretending to know more than he does about vampirism #and either has nothing to teach them or wont ever let them go so they can find out anything for real about their own kind #these changes in the show bother me too but i think im not that good at articulating why #i also feel like as much as book louis's weakness and passiveness and guilt can get frustrating and isn't always interesting to follow #in a way that's kinda one of his more saving graces and most defining traits as a vampire as well - so i dont always know how to feel #about them making his character more powerful and aggressive and involved in things in the show at times?#on one hand i often get frustrated at his moping and indecisiveness and inactivity in the books #and yet on the other hand i find i miss his quieter softer excruciatingly polite book personality when i am watching the show at times too #p #vmpcs

I am super curious what would you have for de au canon once/if you come up with what you want for it. No pressure tho, it is your fun au.

Idk. I thought Wade and NWB could be a thing in which case it was probably something that NS was initially okay about but then it really drove him up the wall. He probably wanted to tell NWB but also couldn't bring himself to think about Wade or consider even a possibility of meeting him again. Or alternatively he didn't know, he just knew Wade was dating someone. And was completely blown up when he found out during current timeline.

The question is Wade's parents and how did they react to NWB. Harry ends up in police since it was upward mobility for him and Dora and them encouraged him towards this. I am not sure it would be a same situation here since, idk, I think they would hate NWB since let go.

like i said before wade and nwb arent a thing in the disco elysium au because that’s just not what their dynamic is supposed to be. yes i’m well aware that harry/dora is a romantic relationship but i’m not going to make this au 100% accurate to the game, like i’ve already changed the kim & harry dynamic for ns & nwb (because in the game kim & harry are cool with eachother, meanwhile ns & nwb aren’t) so i’m also changing the whole thing about dora into something less romantic but just as mentally ill if not more👍

#i don’t know if ns would know wade very well either because i assume by the time ns got adopted wade had already moved out #and wasn’t seeing his family quite as much. he was just doing his thing #anyway about the wade & nwb dynamic; wade is an elder brother figure first and foremost #i think he started being friends with nwb at a low point in nwb’s life (in this au his parents probs abandoned him after years of neglect)#and wade took him under his wing. and then… i think if we’re gonna try and adapt My Canon Lore into this au #i think then wade goes missing. no warning no note no anything. he’s just gone #and i think (in true nwb fashion) wayback is probably in denial at first and repressing how much this hurts him #and i think that’s also why he goes into detective work. to find out what happened to wade #but with each dead end and each unsuccessful day wayback gets closer to his breakdown #his repressed emotions and abandonment issues creep up on him and he has the whole Thing after which he loses his memory #and now he doesn’t even know who the fuck wade is. or what money is #ok thank you for making me think about this au lol it’s actually very fun #it’s cool to make the story still somewhat accurate to my Actual storyline even though there’s no ascension plots here #just regular old abandonment 👍#cramswering

Okay scribbled this out Super Fast and my justifications for this are in the tags BUT-

very powerful spectral entities serve on the Ghost Kings council to advise and assist the king in his duties. Some commonly powerful entities are collectives. Usually the collective consciousness of a city, a concept, or an ideology.

Two of those collectives that serve the Ghost Kings Council is Metropolis and Gotham.

#Obviously it's based off the superman suit BUT #I made the upper half black for Two Reasons #1) To make it look like a suit jacket (metropolis business-y whatever???)#2) With the red cape and the yellow decal in it it looks a bit like the suit Clark wore to honour Jor-El #I put the yellow diamond there to represent the El house crest too but left the actual space for the crest blank #To represent that- although Metropolis connects to the house of El through its chosen protector- it can never truly be a part of it #Just as much as Clark can never really know his home planet either #Thought having the star/supernova head would be cool to represent the solar energy that Superman gets his powers from #But also because it parallels what I think Gotham would be like as a spirit #Very human looking but carrying this sense of Otherness and the weight of an ancient curse #Whereas Metropolis is very visibly ethereal and alien but so alive in a way that's almost weird for a spirit #Just utterly teeming with warmth and explosive hope #One seeming human but feeling Other and one looking Other but seeming human you know??#The glowing green at the back is for Kryptonite #As a remnant of Krypton- the grief at its back #& a reminder of the desire to never have to grieve a whole world that way again being the foundations of Metropolis' existence #Idk I think it'd be Super Fun if the spirit of Metropolis was actually the old spirit of Krypton as a whole #Weak and barely existing for years after the planet's destruction but just waiting and waiting for its last little star to settle #And allow the Earth to thread itself through with these new alien roots #Which would be why despite being such a new city spirit Metropolis would already be so powerful #Also would it not be So Good if Danny was talking about his council to the JL #And Superman found out that the ancient spirit of his home planet had been rooting for him this whole time #To the point where it'd taken the name of his new home and tried to protect it like he did #Would that not be So Sweet #I have more thoughts but the tags are becoming a novel so!!! HSDJFGDSJ #Hopefully this makes sense I did not get enough sleep LMAO #Honestly I've been thinking about Clark recently I might write something for this at some point #(Also Do Not ask me about my opinions of what the spirit of Fawcett would be like and their dynamic with the Gotham+Metropolis spirits are)#(Because we will be here for A Year)#dpxdc
