Valtor

Valtor is the image of perfection, so much so that it’s unnatural. His face is perfectly symmetrical, his eyes, his nose, his cheek bones, his jawline all look as if he’s been carved from stone. His skin is smooth and flawless, he dosnt have a single wrinkle or blemish. His skin is like porcelain, clear and pale, and almost unnatural.  

You look at him from afar and you see he’s allure, his attractiveness. You’d have to be blind to not recognise that Valtor is handsome, that he is tall and refined, and that his hair shines like silk. He is captivating in almost every way. But the closer you get the more unnerving he becomes. 

He isnt human. He isnt even a man. 

He was shaped by the hands of the three Ancestral Witches. His body, like clay, was formed around the dying embers of the dragon fire. He is only the shape of a man. 

At first you wouldn't realise, but the way he walks, the way he talks, the way his expressions are always taut and firm, it is so very unnatural. The hair on the back of your neck prickles when he is nearby 

His eyes are cold and calculating. He is always watching, observing, waiting. His intelligence is astounding, always one step ahead. If you happened to look past the coldness and the distance in his eyes, you can see the embers that have grown into a raging flame. His eyes are haunting. 

There is no name for what he truly is

This was brought to my attention by a good friend and I admit my blood was boiling the whole 58 seconds watching this nonsense 😤🔥😡. In this Nickolodeon cartoon The Winx Club, the black girl is completely devastated over the 'catastrophe' of her normally straight hair 'poofing' up into an afro (and a fierce one at that 😉). Her peers touch her hair and ask 'what is that' as she cries even louder. When I first saw this my initial reaction was that Nickolodeon was, for some reason or another, purposely trying to insult us black girls and women. But a little Internet research revealed that The Winx Club is a popular Italian cartoon tailored for little girls and this specific episode aired overseas back in 2004 and in the US in 2010. I'm not condoning this clip but back then the natural hair movement wasn't as big as it is now, especially overseas. Nowadays things like this will no longer go unnoticed because we're tired of seeing natural hair being shunned in the media and we will not let our little girls grow up thinking there is something wrong with the way they look naturally. Incidentally, Nickolodeon changed the script to the black girl having a problem with her voice rather than her hair after media backlash. I hope they take this as a learning experience and not use ignorance as an excuse to air shows like these. Stella of Solaria

Stella was wonderful.

She walked with a skip in her step and her head held high. She had a loud voice and a presence that filled up an entire room. It was as if she had her own gravitational field that made people stop and stare and turn their heads as she flounced past. Her laugh was loud and bright and fizzy and contagious. Stella would talk and talk and talk, meaningless chatter that filled up the empty space, bubbling and bright. And she had little to no sense of personal space, and Bloom found that she really didn’t mind.    

She didn’t mind when Stella would loop their arms together as they walked or that she would hook her chin over Bloom’s shoulder to whisper loudly and give a running commentary on anything remotely amusing, cheeky comments that had Bloom snorting into the back of her hand. She didn’t mind when Stella would grab her by the arm and drag her from one store to the next, gawking through the store windows and sailing through racks of half priced clothing.            

Stella was lovely and generous and she had her own kind of warmth that surrounded her, something that bathed those around her in a radiant glow. Stella was dazzling and warm and standing next to her, arms looped together and shoulder brushing, was like standing by someone you had known for a lifetime.

Bloom wondered if this is what it meant, what it really felt like to have a true friend.
