Do you like Welcome to Nightvale? Do you have 5 minutes spare to listen to someone practice voicework by doing a short piece inspired by it? If so, here's a thing you may enjoy! If none of that meant anything, but you like the idea of a short horror-comedy piece read in a rather nice British accent (according to some people, anyway), give it a whirl!

You are on a train. A trip out from the smoke and dust and noise of the city to get away to the countryside, where you can enjoy a different kind of smoke and dust and noise. An old man gets on, and sits down not quite opposite you, just a little bit away, on the other side of the aisle. You notice the tattoos on his hands. One letter on each finger, spelling 'Love' and 'Hat'. You assume there is an E on the finger you cannot see. The tattoos are old, and faded to blue, in a heavy gothic script. You return to your book. Just some light holiday reading on whether serial killers are real, or the product of government mind control experiments. The train pulls in to the station - grunting in the marsh - and you look up to see where you are. There is a small shelter next to a closed ticket office, where a window box sports a drooping crop of spotted orchid and ragged Robin. You glance over at the man with 'Hold Fast' tattooed on his knuckles to see how he has reacted to the station, but there is no readable expression on his face. You return to your - wait. Didn't his knuckle tattoos say Love and Hate earlier? You look back, but he is fetching something from his bag and you cannot see his hands. You wait, changing your angle in your seat so you can watch him while pretending to read your book. After a while he sits back up, and you see his hands again. There's no mistake, they definitely say... 'stop staring'. Still one word per hand, and one letter per knuckle. You glance back down at your book, and in your peripheral vision his hands look normal again.

You read for a while longer - about halfway to Circle-By-Sea - until you can resist no longer, and look up at the old man again. Now the tattoos say 'I told you to stop staring'. One letter per finger, one word per hand. That's how it works. That's how tattoos are done on normal human hands. His normal... Human... Hands.

You glance down at your own, embarrassed, as you always have been, by how few of them you have. You glance back at the old man- careful not to stare- and admire his multitude of many knuckled hands, which are normal to want and healthy to have. You look back at your own measly two hands, and feel a sense of loss. You're not sure why, though, your hands are the same as they've always been; one thumb and three fingers on each hand. Same as always.

It's your stop, Cumberwold. You get up and gather your bags. You can't help but look at the old man's hands as you leave, and notice the L of love and e of Hate, the tattoos he has had this whole time, are fresh black ink on young looking skin. Skin that reminds you of yours, though there's no time to question it as you are already stepping off the train before you realise what you have seen.

You stand at the station, less whole, though no less a person than you were before. You should take the bus tomorrow.

S2:V06- TWIN TANGRAM

A digital twin stick controller for Virtual On, 8-way twin stick shooters, and more. Housed in the case of a Hori RAP VX-SA, the first arcade stick I bought.

A custom metal plate supports the joystick and buttons, and the cable door has been repurposed to pass through the usb signal and store the cable. The function button panel has been removed and replace with a transparent plexi panel that has function buttons and a status OLED mounted to it.

Uses the GP2040ce open source firmware and an Advanced Breakout Board by TheTrain.

Dating

If only therewas just one but there are many to choose each one like some town thetrain I am travels by each one cozier than the last and I deciding to stop or not no end insight just so many brief pauses

Having thought about this, I propose that the diner car is named Dead Man’s Switch. Not only because it is a very Gotham-sounding name, but because it plays off so many things.

There’s the old railway switch, where a man used to pull a lever to move the track so that thetrain went the correct way. Then there’s the way it switches dimensions at need. Or how the train switches between real and ghostly.

I’m sure people can come up with a few more.

DP x DC: The Dead Man at the Diner

Danny has a hard time maintaining regular jobs. At this point he’s pretty much nocturnal after years of being attacked at night, and possibly just part of his ghostly nature. He’s odd, and a basic google search brings up various news articles about him getting into fist fights with the mayor of a small town. He barely passed high school and college was out of the question, so who in their right mind would hire him?

What’s a job that would work with his odd hours, doesn’t require a college education, and a possible criminal record and a tendency to be ready to throw down is NOT an issue?

Danny is a cook at a 24hour Diner in Gotham

The man just needs to be able to flip a burger and make breakfast food and doesn’t mind a gun in the face because he’s well used to it. So what if the robber was dumb enough to pull that shit next to the fryer. If he didn’t want something to end up extra crispy he should have stayed out of Danny’s kitchen

Just think of all the folks he would meet.

Sure, the vigilantes of the city would be obvious and you can’t tell me spoiler isn’t dragging folks there to eat. Maybe they notice some weird things about the cook, like he doesn’t breath, his eyes reflect light like an animal’s, or the time he accidentally cut off a finger and it was fine the next day, or maybe the time a robber shot him and he just... didn’t react

And of course the person I think would love a jersey style diner breakfast at all hours: Harley Quinn

Technically she’s not supposed to bring the hyenas in, health code and all that, but everyone else is to freaked out to tell her and Danny doesn’t care. Frankly he spends his break petting them and they like him because he smells like food.
