Here's a list of my recommended Dick Grayson centric fics!

(Will warn you that some of these could contain OOC moments, but I couldn't tell you which since most of these I've read a while ago. So, beware of that!)

The Fishbowl by LordLuxury

Summary:

Dick’s goal for Thanksgiving (code named Operation F.I.S.H.): A family outing to the aquarium.

It feels achievable - everyone has been getting along better lately, Jason is spiraling closer, Cass is coming home. But there is a lot of unspoken hurt in every direction, and Dick’s own position in the family is shakier than ever since Bruce returned.

If Dick wants to realize his dream of family bonding, there will have to be many painful conversations between all parties. Dick’s own secrets will need to surface, the ones he has long kept submerged, the ones he will fight to sink forever.

(Or: Where Bruce is just a bit darker, even less emotionally available, and treats everyone a little worse, and how they all fix their family anyway.)

Comment: I read it a while ago so I can't promise to remember everything there was in it, but I can tell you it was wonderful.

It's a long fic focused on Dick Grayson that explores the batfamily dynamics, but mostly focuses on Dick's relationship with Bruce.

It's a rollercoaster of emotions and you'll probably have to take a break as you read it but finishing it is so worth it.

It wraps up everything very nicely and it's just one of my favorite Dick Grayson's fics of all time.

Broken Boy Vacation by AuroraKant

Summary:

Tim and Jason and Babs were mad at him, and Dick couldn’t even explain himself. Only Damian – oh, and how his heart had soared, learning that his boy was ALIVE! – had welcomed Dick back, and… and in his desperation Dick had proposed spending the holidays together. No presents, of course. No pressure to be overtly nice to each other. Just… what was left of their family together in one place.

Tim had been the one who remembered Bruce’s skiing cabin up in Blue Ridge Mountains, and suddenly they had a plan.

Dick returned from Spyral in the hopes of reconnecting with his family - what he found instead was a Bruce who had forgotten them all and brothers who expressed their grief through anger. This holiday was supposed to let them heal. But can you heal something as broken as them?

Comment: Batbros bonding, many apologies and a lot of stress but happy (hopeful) ending for Dick.

Dick and Damian have an implied father-son dynamic so, if you don't like that, probably would avoid this one unless you can ignore that.

I know at the time I read it I liked it a lot, so you'll have to trust myself from about a month ago about this one.

Hey, Brother, There's an Endless Road to Rediscover by TheSilencer

Summary:

"Someone needs to go with him." Diana said. "She's a goddess of family. Her blessing will come from the strength of his familial ties."

All the more reason I should go. Damian thought.

Bruce and Dick shared a long look. Perhaps to the others in the room, it was a fast, indecipherable look, but Damian caught the pull of Dick's mouth and the tightness to his father's jaw. However, it was Bruce that said "Red Hood and Red Robin."

Damian's eyes widened.

Grayson was as good as dead.

Or the one where Dick's brothers manage to royally piss off an ancient deity that sends them careening through memories he'd rather they didn't see.

Comment: It's a work in progress, but it is long enough to keep you entertained for a while before the next update.

If you want a fic that covers basically all the struggles Dick's gone through? This one fic does exactly that.

Lots of secrets brought to light, reconcilation and drama.

Patchwork by Samuel_Walker

Summary:

Dick Grayson is made up of bits. It’s a habit he creates when he’s small, when he doesn’t know how to “person” quite yet. Others around him seem to know, so he just picks up little things from them and sews them together into a patchwork quilt Dick Grayson. 

Comment: I'll be honest, I haven't read this one yet, but I have it bookmarked for later.

However, I do know it's sort of a character study fic of Dick Grayson and this type of fics are usually great, so I will recommend it.

Summary:

In the wake of Gotham War, Dick decides to give Bruce one final chance, but he doesn’t believe it will last very long. Bruce claims that Zur is gone, and, well, Dick believes that. It’s just that the problem didn’t start with Zur, so why would it end with him? Bruce has been hitting his apprentices since Dick was eight years old. He’s said he would stop before, and sometimes, it’s even lasted a while. But Bruce breaks all of his promises, sans one, and Dick is just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Comment: It's a work in progress, but so far it's been great.

It explores Dick's feelings about Bruce's (canon) abuse in the past and his struggle to believe that now that Zur it's gone it's truly over since he can't forget about the things Bruce has done when Zur wasn't a thing.

Bruce himself is trying to do better in this fic, but in his usual 'we won't actually talk about it, let us just move on' way. So, yeah, not great of him. Hoping for character development there.

And, well, this is all for now. I have other recs, but many of them are post-spyral or have ships in it, so I tried to vary a bit and avoid romantic relationships in the recs I gave.

persephone's in hell by Whiskey: i've recommended this one before but rlly, this is the dick grayson thesis. fresh off being fired from robin, dick travels to the future and it is a stunning realization of grief and pain. fic of all time <3

The View From Jade by lowflyingfruit: multi-chapter fic in jason's pov where he travels back in time to before dick was robin. excellent characterizations and grappling with the meaning of robin- both to dick and to jason.

SYNCHRONICITY. by orpheusaki: multi-chapter fic where robin!dick and nightwing!dick swap places. an excellent character study of both dick and bruce. there's grief and comfort and it's all so wonderful.

Overcoming Our Antecedents by Batbirdies: i read this one a while back but i remember enjoying it. not rlly time travel but multi-chapter fic where jason gets de-aged to a time before his death. cue the subsequent angst from bruce and dick.

Hereditary by nighhtwing (divineauthor): pretty sure i've recommended this one before too but i just have so much love for this in my heart. one-shot where bruce travels back to a time when his parents were still alive. amazing characterization for bruce and just rlly good consideration of what his kids and pseudo-family members mean to him <3

Breath Of Life by commanderquill: damian and dick getting sent back to a time before the graysons fall. it's been a while since i've read this but i remember feeling equal parts horror and awe by it. wonderfully complex and the writing rlly hooks you in.

In This or Any Other Universe by wildsofmarch: nightwing!dick accidentally travels to robert pattinson's world. a real delight to read with very witty dialogue and a hyper-competent dick grayson.

the grief wheel by dustorange: it's not a real fic list without one of malilah's fics. alfred trapped in a time loop when the waynes get shot. a great portrayal of a young bruce and the collective tragedy of the waynes <3

cast on/cast off by hellsreluctantheir: one shot with dick and jason trapped in a time loop! the banter, the chemistry, the energy- all great, all extremely engaging to read.

Today? Yesterday? by dickgraysonwayne (TheMightiestPen): one shot where dick is trapped in a time loop. dick and tim centric so you already know i enjoyed this one immensely. whacky comic shenanigans and a beautiful insight into the love and faith they have for and in each other

love watching you go by butch_chastity: dickroy!!!! one shot where roy is stuck in a time loop in the outsiders era. i love them so much aaaah i just love this one so much. i re-read it every few weeks <3

One Thousand, Three Hundred and Nine Hours by TheSilencer: all the bats sans dick get stuck in a groundhog day type of situation. it's a pretty good read even if i don't agree with some of the character dynamics. a bit darker in tone/themes tho so just a warning if you're not into that

Study on being the (not perfect) eldest and the sacrifices that go along with it. Mentions of Tarantula and Blockbuster. A very satisfying read! Here's a sample from the fic:

“So I must calm down Todd lest he relinquish my sword,” Damian mused. “But how do I calm down a magically homicidal maniac?”

Ask Bruce , Dick didn’t say. Bruce would only ask him and be ten times more awkward about it. “It seems he’s stressed about the uptick in crime…Maybe you should help him get Crime Alley under control.” Dick held his breath because Damian always came to him when he wanted advice but the kid only took it if he thought he came up with it. A lot like his father.

Savior Complex by Arwriter

In which Dick goes nonverbal after Bruce comes back, but nobody notices! Everyone in the Batfam treats Dick unfairly, but after the hurt there is very satisfying comfort!

“He’s being a child.” And then Jason was staring right at him, and Dick couldn’t bring himself to look away. “We have the right to be pissed at you after everything that happened, Dickhead. Things are weird right now, if anyone should get that it’s you. The least you could do is admit you fucked up with Tim and give us all some time. Ignoring everyone to try and make us feel like shit isn’t fair. You know damn well Bruce has enough on his plate right now, and I don’t have time for your bullshit either. No one does.”

Home Again, Jiggity Jig by Living_Free

A comedy/crack fic that also works as a fix-it! Set during the whole "Ric" Grayson amnesia mess. One of the funniest fics I've ever read, can't recommend it enough! (Two samples because I'm obsessed:)

/Damian sat up to look at Dick. “Not even I? Forgetting Todd or Drake, even Father, is understandable. But I? Our bond transcends the stars, you said so yourself!”

Jason mimed retching onto Tim’s head./

/“Be of calm mind, Grayson,” Damian said. “Todd is merely projecting his insecurities that no one will hold his hand onto us.”

“That’s not true, son,” Bruce said, and then held Jason’s hand. Jason nearly died on the spot, becuase his dad was holding his hand in public, oh my god, people can see./

One Thousand, Three Hundred and Nine Hours by TheSilencer

Literally one of the best fics I've ever read. Basically the rest of the batfam are trapped in a time loop that ends with Dick's death, and the story is told from Dick's POV on the timeline he gets saved! Be warned, there is light(?) gore.

The older man sighed and pulled down the cowl. "It has been suggested to me that I'm demanding too much. That having you check in at least once an hour is -"

"Ridiculous?" Dick asked. "Absurd? An excessive show of paranoia?"

Bruce's lip twitched up. "A bit much."

what's past is prologue by Icestorm238

A time-travel fic where Dick goes back to his post-Robin but pre-Jason's arrival self, with the goal of saving Jason. Incredible dynamic between Dick and Jason that's just so sweet to read, and interesting plot twists and reversals that I won't spoil ;)

Dick struggles to temper his excitement when Jason opens up to him about his love of literature. That had never happened the first time - he’d found out second hand from Alfred, hadn’t thought much about it, hadn’t realised just how important books were to Jason, hadn’t cared to learn back then. When Jason returned to them it had been treated as a known hobby, and still not one he shared with Dick.

Time travel/dimension travel fic recs for Batman

THERE IS NOT EVERYTHING I LOVE but there's a list of the stories that were easiest to find on my bookmarks!!! I guess these fics are pretty popular, so everyone knows them, but still!!

Fics on ao3 because I've never read any time travel batfam fics on fanfiction.net: - The Bat's Crest by livierambles (Tim's not woobified and the Bat-Clan (not just the family, ALL of them!) being so, so competent. It hurts to read other fics after this one); the author loves comics and it's cool; - one day at a time by Nyame (Batman Beyond included! How cool is that?? Also it's not just about Jason, they are all deep both in the past AND the future); the author loves comics and it's cool; - Hope is the Thing with Feathers by TheSilencer (this one is only for those who love to read about Jason and Dick relationship - no slash); - Keep Your Head, Your Backbone, and Your Heart by MrMich (recommend to read even if you know almost nothing about Duke Thomas, because I enjoyed it anyway); - No pressure by Valkirin (I remember nothing about this, but it's in my bookmarks so go take a risk, maybe you'll like it too); - The Till-Then From the Ever-Since by Kieron_ODuibhir (read it not for the time travel part but for the part that— HOW THE HELL DOES AUTHOR KEEP ALL THE CHARACTERS BUSY, THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM); - Raisin Delight by LemonadeGarden (this was a cool one!! Case fic with angst and GREAT ending); - something cool probably on my bookmarks that i missed by accident.

ALSO not time/dimension travel BUT a fic that time-travel lovers might love: Recollect, re-collect by Ptelea! Jason-centric but the ritual to restore everyone's memory at the end is GOOD, includes conversations about Robin as a symbol and Dick Grayson admitting that it was his nickname given by his mother Mary but then saying "But I'm not the only child anymore" AAAAJSJSKKSKKSSL. Cool fic, cool fic.

MY OPINION My heart.  I love a good time loop fic and the way this one was handled was not only unique but superb.  I love the format, the delivery of relevant information, the characterizations etc. This story made my heart break for every single one of these characters. That all being said, the content warnings I put up there are no joke. Seriously. Read with caution. I usually have a very strong stomach for all the content warnings I put up there, but this works Dead Dove tag is well deserved. 

On a more cheerful note, I didn’t realize how many works I had read by The Silencer until I was scrolling through their account. I will definitely be recommending some more from them in the future.
