Best Teacher, Part 1 || Fred Weasley
Pairing: Fred Weasley x Slytherin!reader
Summary: y/N is a pureblood Slytherin best friends with Harry Potter, but not yet that close to the Weasleys until she’s invited to spend Christmas with them.
PART 2 HERE
PART 3 HERE
A/N: So yeah, we’re not even close to Christmas, but this idea popped in my mind and I had to write. Yes, out of nowhere I got into this Harry Potter vibe, who can explain?
*gif below not mine
Being friends with Harry Potter had always been something you were proud to have achieved. Harry was not only a nice guy and great friend, but he was also very famous, so having his friendship gave you some kind of popularity that being a Slytherin you would not have achieved on your own.
You couldn’t exactly point a finger to when your friendship began, but it was around your second year. Now, that you are a fourth-year student, your friendship is really solid. You care deeply for Harry, proving your loyalty to him many times by now.
He had other friends, but you hadn't talked to most of them yet. Hermione was kind of cool, she didn't bother with the fact that you were a pureblood and a Slytherin since you never showed any kind of prejudice against who she was — a muggle-born.
Ron Weasley, on the other hand, was somewhat of a problem. He ignored you most of the time you were with them, avoiding talking to you. He never actually said a bad thing about you — that you had proved of — but you believed he did behind your back since any of the Weasley talked to either. They never even tried.
Percy was too old for you to even have anything in common to say, besides, by now, he's no longer a Hogwarts student. The only Weasleys left were the Twins and Ginny. Ginny was too busy to have time for you, although you had the impression that she didn't like you simply because of your friendship with Harry.
The Twins, George and Fred, were kind of mystery in this matter of "do they like me or not". They were always playing jokes against the Slytherin house, so more times than often, you were a victim of their pranks. Although you didn't think it was their purpose to hit you, they never apologised. George had spoken to you, one or two words, generally, to make fun of the situation you and Harry were involved, but Fred never said a thing.
Even when he had to study a year next to you during Snape's classes (the Professor got angry because Fred and George never shut up, and made them split), he never talked to you. Staring, though, he did a lot. You couldn't help but do the same. He was beautiful — in your opinion, the most beautiful of the Weasley, maybe being a tie when it came to George — and, since he always started the stares, you didn't felt the guilt of looking back.
It wasn't like he was disgusted by you, it felt like he was just curious. Sometimes, when you got wrong with the potions, he looked scared. You couldn't blame him, because you were a real nightmare when you got some lesson wrong.
"So, what are you doing for Christmas, Harry?" you asked your friend once you met him on the corridor, after a long period of staring Fred during one of Snape's class.
Being an orphan and living with a terrible family, Harry hated going back home for the holidays, so, most of the time, he stayed in Hogwarts. You felt so bad, that you used to insist on him to come to spend the holiday with you and your family. Maybe they weren't the happiest family during the season, but you were sure your parents would try to impress Potter since they had him in a very high status.
"I'm going the Burrow" he answered, holding his books closer to his chest. By now, you already knew the Burrow was the residence of the Weasleys, and listening to that info made you involuntarily sigh. "What's wrong?" your friend looked at you, confused.
"Nothing. I was just expecting you to finally come to spend the holiday with me and maybe I wouldn't feel so sad" you explained, making sure your puppy face was out, trying to change his mind by being too cute.
He only smiled, kinda relieved. "Well, you could always come with me. I'm sure Mrs Weasley wouldn't mind, she even said I could bring someone with me"
You showed your teeth, frowning. You were sure Mrs Weasley was a nice person, you knew how well she treated Harry, but you were no Gryffindor orphan friends with her kids.
Would be nice to be around such a happy family for Christmas though.
"Thanks, Harry, but I guess I'll have to say no to that. The Weasley didn't really invite me so..." you were saying but got interrupted.
"You surely should come. I'm a Weasley, consider yourself invited" Ginny showed up out of nowhere, accompanying you two in your walk to the Great Hall.
You looked surprised. "Still, I..."
"Come, 'cause I will warn my mom and if you aren't there, she'll find you herself," she remarked, making Harry shake his head in agreement.
"Okay, maybe I'll turn up" you finally agreed, slowly bowing your head, scared of what you just said yes to.
"Now, can I steal Harry from you for a second?" she asked, already escorting him away from you.
"Sure" you answered, but they both couldn't be seen anymore.
***
When the day to leave Hogwarts came, Harry waited for you in front of the Slytherin common room. He got some stares, but he didn't seem to care, smiling when he finally saw me.
"Harry, what are you doing here?"
"Ginny asked me to make sure you'd come. She said her mom was anxious to meet you" he answered, getting his bags from the floor.
"Still don't get it. Why would Ginny want me there? We're not really friends" you pointed out, walking down the corridor.
"I suppose she knows how much would it mean to me to have my friends around during this dark time" he answered, giving real thought to it "Shes a nice lad, Ginny"
"Yeah, I know" you commented, elbowing him, just to mess around, He blushed. "But I'm glad to be going. My parents don't believe in celebrations, so we generally just stay home, and eat dinner earlier during Christmas"
"So this will be different for you. The Weasleys stay up until late" Potter explained.
We had finally arrived inside the train.
"I think I'll like the change," you said, before settling down with Harry, Ron and Hermione in one cabin.
Ron was mostly quiet during the whole trip, but Hermione filled the silence with a bunch of random information. She was said she could not spend the holiday with the Weasleys but she didn't want you to forget to write to her everything that happened during your time there.
"Including me?" you asked, confused if she wanted you to write her as well.
"Well, of course! I need a female opinion about what happened as well" she replied, with a smile, hugging you not too tight.
You smiled back, happy with the request.
"Hermione, it's ‘what might happen’ ". It'll probably be another boring week" Ron finally spoke, shocking me to hear his voice. Remarkably because he was correcting Hermione, which is, again, a shock.
"Ha! As if Fred and George wouldn't prank anyone!" she claimed, and we all just laugh, because it was certain that they had something planned for the holiday. You just had to wait to see.
Bags in hand, you all didn't have to wait long to see Mr and Mrs Weasley in the crowd. They waved, making Ginny run in their direction. Ron walked behind her, not as happy to see his parents. Harry was next in line, leaving you with Fred and George because you were having some trouble with how heavy your bags were. It didn't occur to you that you wouldn't need as many clothes as you planned for just one week away.
One of the twins nudged the other, who then showed up right next to you. "Need any help?" the nudged one offered, throwing his only bag on his shoulder and offering you a helping hand.
It was only when you faced the twin that you realized it was Fred. He had a small freckle next to his chin that George hadn't.
The help made you confuse if you should accept or not, but George added over his shoulder. "If you don't accept, mom will be angry at us and then I'll be angry at you"
You sighted. "Okay, I'll take your help" you agreed, giving Fred one of your bags "Thanks, Fred" you added, making he amazed with the fact that you differed him from his brother.
"Always here for you" he answered, attempting to be funny, but sounding more serious than he should.
You both walked a bit faster, trying to catch up to the rest of the group. Mrs Weasley, a short warm lady was still hugging Harry in a very, very tight hug when you and Fred finally got there.
She let Harry Potter go when she caught your face. "Oh! You must be the one Ginny told me about! y/N, isn't it?" she asked, walking closer to you.
"Prepare yourself" Fred tilted his head in your direction, whispering advice. You only had time to look at his direction before being sucked into a tight hug from Mrs Weasley.
"Nice meeting you, Mrs Weasley," you said once she loosened the embrace, allowing you not just to talk but also to breath. Fred hid a smile at your side.
"Please, call me Molly" she entreated. You smiled at her, in a way of showing that you'd do as asked. She held your hand to show you where to go.
Mr Weasley only had the chance to wave at you, since Mrs Weasley was leading you surprisingly fast for such a small person, still, you managed to wave back, without dropping your bag. While walking, you could hear the laughs around you, swearing you were recognizing Fred's, because it was probably the loudest.
Harry caught up to you two, walking next to you when he commented: "I said you'd be welcomed".
***
Lastly inside the Burrow, Ginny guided you to her room, where you'd be sleeping. Fred followed you, dropping carefully your bag on the floor, just before leaving to his room.
The house was way smaller than yours, however, that wasn't a problem for you. It did feel very welcoming, with a warmth that was very welcomed in such cold weather. Ginny had a mattress on the floor for you, which was more than you could have asked, showing up like that, practically uninvited.
"I feel like I haven't thanked you properly for allowing me here, Ginny. Feels good to be around a big happy family for the holiday" you said to her when you both were going back to downstairs.
"Hey, y/N, no worries. I don't bother with a full house, and I need another girl around to handle these many boys" she retorted, making me laugh.
"Just out of curiosity, did you tell your mom everything about me?"
"Everything?" she repeated, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, like, I'm Slytherin and all" you explained.
She pulled her bright red hair back before answering. "Well, no. Not that it would matter. She would need only to look at you"
"What do you mean?" you were confused by what she had said, scared that you could have an evil face or something like that.
"You shine with power, y/N. That Sorting hat would be a scam if it hadn't put you in Slytherin" she explained, avoiding looking at you.
You were about to ask what she had meant with that when Mrs Weasley appeared in front of you. "Ginny, come, I need your help"
The girl followed her mom with a frowny face, not very happy with losing free time with Molly.
Without anyone to talk, you went outside the Burrow, just to stare at the sky, not knowing exactly what to do. You planned on finding Potter, but he wasn't outside once you got there.
"And Hermione thought I'd have something to tell" you mumbled, not to anyone, in particular, getting surprised when you noticed you had been heard.
"What did you just say?" a masculine voice asked, making you turn your face to look back.
Fred and George were walking in your direction, both with a smirk on their faces. With their faces a little away you couldn't differ each from the other, especially because they changed their shirts to red sweaters.
"Me? Nothing" you said, looking away from them.
"I heard something, didn't you too, brother?" one of them asked, in a mocking tone.
"I did, Freddie," George asked, sitting next to me on the grass "So what was it?"
"It what?" you replied, trying to mock as well.
Fred sat on your other side and look at you. "What did you complain, darling?"
The "darling" was like a weak spot for you, almost forcing you to confess. "Hermione asked me to write to her everything that happens during my time in here" you explained, a little angry at yourself for spilling the tea.
"Your complaint is because you hate writing?" George asked, looking at you confused.
"Definitely not, brother, she writes a lot more than necessary" Fred was the one that answered, smirking lightly.
You stared back at Fred, with a mix of feeling because of what he had said. Happy because he noticed, but interested in why he noticed.
"I do?" you asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
He swallowed hard before answering. "I, for instance, don't write a thing during Snape's class, but you can't keep your hand down".
You smiled. "Well, of course! I need to write down the things he says, otherwise, I get everything wrong. You just don't care about getting everything wrong."
"Potion's classes are only cool when there are explosions" Fred affirmed, closing his eyes for a second. You took the moment to contemplate his lovely face in the sunlight.
"Agreed, brother" George said on your side, stopping you from keeping with the stare. "So, y/N, what's your problem with writing to Hermione then?"
You pressed your lips together, embarrassed to answer. "It's just... I don't know any of you enough to have stories to tell her."
Fred and George exchanged a suspicious look before facing me again. George even replaced himself in the grass, so he could face me better.
"That's something we can resolve," Fred said, smiling while shaking his head up and down, nonstop.
"We can make you have tons of things to tell Hermione" George added.
"I bet she'll be happy to hear about everything the Weasley's Twins have been doing" Fred commented, making his brother laugh and making you worried.
"Why do I feel like I'm gonna regret this?"
"Oh, y/N, because you will" answered Fred, smiling so bright that all his teeth were showing.
***
Since you had arrived on a Saturday and Christmas was only on Friday, you, Fred and George had not many events to attend as such exchanging presents or singing carols.
The Twins planned to steal you to a bunch of activities, that, according to Fred, had all been schedule so every day you'd have a new prank to assist. Yeah, assist. They were not only making you their accomplice but also their partner.
It was late in the night, yet on Saturday, that your first task happened. You were sleeping on the floor of Ginny's room when you heard the slight knock on the door. Not used with sleeping in a crowded house, you were able to wake fast, visibly scared.
You ran your finger through your hair, attempting to look better even though you were with a sleep face in your nightclothes. You tried to open the door without waking Ginny up, but, by the looks of her, she would need a loud hard-core rock playing to wake.
"Fred? George? What are you guys doing here at... what time is it?" you asked, walking out of the room and closing the door behind you.
"It's almost five A.M. but that's not the point" one of them answered, but the darkness didn't allow you to distinguish which.
"Five A.M?" you repeated, a little louder than you planned, just to get a "shhh!" from the twins.
"Follow us, come on" one of them instructed, getting down by the stairs.
You followed, although scared of what were they planning. One of them said "Lumos" to get a little light on your way, which you were thankful, because you practically couldn't see a thing since the sun wasn't out yet.
When you arrived in the kitchen, they finally stopped walking.
"We decided that our first prank should be a breakfast one," one of them said, and you recognized it was Fred because of his pyjamas, it had an "F" in front of his jumper.
"What is breakfast prank?"
"y/N, you do know nothing about pranks, do you?" George asked, laughing a bit.
You nodded, ashamed. You were only close to Harry, and he wasn't much of a prankster. You had other Slytherin friends, but you used to only talk to them about your house points and to ask for help to study; therefore, besides not having someone to teach you how to fool everybody, you also didn't have someone to fool.
"George and I thought of a food colouring spell" Fred explained the plan to you, ignoring the fact that you had never pranked anybody before.
"Is there such a thing?" you questioned. You were not the smartest witch, but you had never heard of such spell before.
"I came up with it" Fred revealed, pressing his lips together, a mix of ashamed and proud.
You looked at him, amazed. The Twins didn't have the best grades in Hogwarts, but that was just because they didn't want to be good at academics. They were good at what they wanted to be good.
"It will turn everything mom cooks black like she burned it" George continued, going toward the stove.
He and Fred got their wands and cast the words, but you were still analysing the impact of such a prank.
"Doesn't seem like such a nightmare" you pointed out, once they had finished and were laughing a bit louder than they should.
They both froze at your words, turning their faces in your direction like you had just said you-know-who's name.
"What?" you didn't understand their shock.
"Did you just say we made a bad prank?" Fred asked, without relaxing his face.
"It's not bad, it's just simple" you corrected, much for their surprise, making they gasp with your words.
"A too simple prank? Did you hear that, Fred?" George faced his brother, not moving his body.
Oh, Merlin, what had you done.
"I heard that. I feel like she's challenging us" he answered, arching an eyebrow.
"We should not run from a challenge, though" George pointed out, squinting.
"And she should participate as well since she doubted us" Fred added, looking back at you.
"I thought I was already your partner in crime," you said, holding your laugh.
"Go back to bed, dear y/N. And be prepared" Fred advised, trying to make a mysterious face but failing.
"We'll find you when we're ready" George added, copying his brother's face.
You no longer could hold your laugh, letting it out but trying to make it not as loud as it usually was. Shaking your head, unable to conform with what you were hearing, you headed back to the stairs, to go to Ginny's room.
"She's mocking us, brother" you heard when you were going up the stairs.
"Indeed she is" the other twin agreed.
***
On Sunday morning, a black breakfast awaited you, one you could only smile at, trying to pretend you knew nothing about.
Ginny didn't seem confused though.
Sitting on the table, Fred and George laughed hard, listening to their mother's complaint.
"Do you boys know how many eggs I threw away before I realised you've cast a spell on my stove? Do you think the Ministery will be happy to hear you've been performing magic outside of school?" their mother snapped.
"Who said it was us, mom?" George questioned.
You were again able to differ him from his brother because of his jumper. This time, a green one, where Twin #2 could be read. You knew it had to be George since he was the second born, as pointed out by Hermione once.
" 'Who said it was us' " his mom repeated, in a mocking tone, using a newspaper to hit them in the back of their heads.
You laughed hard of the scene, almost ashamed of the doing until Harry and Ginny started laughing with you, which only made you wanna laugh more.
You sat down on the only left chair available, in the middle of Fred and Ginny. The 'Twin #1' fastly moved his head in your direction.
"We have planned the biggest prank ever" he whispered so only you could hear.
You smirked. "Do you guys ever chill?"
"Never" he answered, smiling back at you.
"Percy is coming by Wednesday but Bill and Charlie won't be able to come" Mrs Weasley informed while putting a fried egg at the plate in front of you.
"Thanks, Mrs Weasley, you didn't have to," you said but was glad by her act since you were hungry. Even though the egg was pitch black, it still smelled genuinely good.
"Molly, dear" she corrected you.
The boys next to you sighted.
"Are you kidding me? The worst of us is coming but the cool ones no?" Fred asked, frowning his forehead.
Molly hit him in the head again. "More respect with your older brother," she demanded, but he rapidly ignored, rolling his eyes followed by his twin and Ron.
You had no idea what to expect from Percy since he didn't have much fame in his household. You remembered his appearance, redhaired just like the others, but you never talked to him, so you had no idea if he was all that bad.
After breakfast, the family got outside to play quidditch, and you, not knowing how to play, stayed sitting on the grass, just observing the game. Mr Weasley stood next to you, not sitting, but facing you still.
"Not gonna play, y/N?" he asked. "They surely are missing one"
"Oh, no, Mr Weasley. I have no idea how to" you answered, embarrassed when he acknowledge your words.
"Are you serious?" he questioned. "I can't believe the boys haven't taught you yet"
"I don't think they know" you replied, looking back at them, while they were sorting their teams.
"Hey, boys!" Mr Weasley called, making your friends face in your direction. You could feel your cheeks going red. "Can you guys teach y/N how to play quidditch? She doesn't know"
"What?!" you heard and assumed it came from Fred because he was trotting in your direction. "You actually don't know how to play?"
You shook your head a 'no'.
"Well, then, you have to learn!" George urged, following his brother.
"Come on, we'll teach you". Fred, now closer to you, reached for your hand, and strongly pulled you up.
"No, guys, it doesn’t bother me not knowing..." you started but Fred interrupted.
"You have the chance to learn with the best, y/N, let's go" he bagged, distorting his face so his eyes looked bigger. "Please"
You sniffed. "Ok, fine" you surrendered, making Fred smile. He pulled you closer to him, passing one of his arms around your shoulders. When you two passed through George, he followed you, embracing you from the other side, copying his brother.
"She's on my team!" Fred shouted to the rest of the players, causing Ron to roll his eyes, Harry to laugh, and Ginny to clap fervently, jumping with happiness.
You could now, more them before, feel the red on your cheeks, and you could only imagine it was redder than the Weasleys' hair.
"Get ready to become the best at quidditch, y/N" Fred whispered on your ear when his brother let you go.
"Oh, yeah?" you faked confusion.
"After all, you have the best teacher for yourself" he explained, which caused you to burst out laughing.

Legally Ginger - Prologue (PG-13, Romione)
Now, for something totally different...
Title: Legally Ginger
Chapter 1/9
Rating: PG-13 (I use fuck more than the MPAA allows for PG-13 but that's a stupid rule - there's no explicit content)
Pairing: Romione endgame
Summary: When Ron Weasley's college girlfriend declines his proposal because he doesn't meet her standard for future husband, he decides comes up with a plan to let her see him in a new light.
Notes: This is an AU Muggle reimagination of Legally Blonde. It's very different than anything I have ever written - and my first chapter story. I intend to update each Monday.
Thank you to adnei for all of her beta feedback!
While I really enjoy Legally Blonde, it has some things that need a bit of updating or calling out in the year 2021. This fic will attempt to do those things but not lose the fun and fluffiness of the concept.
Also... I love the pop culture/time capsule references of the movie so plan to see that same vibe in this fic. If any of them are unclear to you, let me know in the comments because I love to talk pop culture!
Finally, lots of our favorites are scheduled to appear throughout the story - I eagerly anticipate all guesses as to who will be who!
Disclaimer: Neither Harry Potter or Legally Blonde or any of their characters are owned by me and are not being used for profit.

“Hey Tim!” Ron Weasley shouted, raising his hand to greet the guy behind the coffee cart but not breaking his stride.
“Hey Ron! Thanks for that recommendation. She loved it!”
Ron grinned and kept on running his recreational route that wove through the Los Angeles campus of California University. Even though his cross country career had come to an end with the conclusion of his senior season this fall, he didn’t intend to let his personal records slip. In fact, he was almost working harder. If everything went according to plan tonight, he planned to be competing in the iconic Boston Marathon next April.
“Ron! We still on to study tomorrow?” shouted his chem lab partner Kelsey as he strode past her.
“Yep! We’re going to rock that test out!”
“Hi Ron!” he heard a few female voices chorus together as he passed the Zeta Beta house. Several girls were doing yoga out on the front lawn.
“Great form ladies!” he yelled back, grinning as he heard the giggles.
He grabbed his shirt to wipe his forehead and glanced at his watch. 4:30. He was approaching the house and he had time to do some cool down stretches, shower, check that they had enough brothers to cover the Animal Aid fundraiser tomorrow, send his Econ professor his problem set, and dress for dinner before he had to leave for the Delta Nu house.
He slowed to a jog as his feet hit the driveway. He took the porch steps two at a time before entering the house. Immediately, he was greeted by a snort.
“Pig! Good boy,” he greeted, scratching the pug behind his ears.
“Come on boy,” he said, starting up the house stairs to his room, Pig following dutifully behind. As president, he lucked out with his own room with an en-suite bathroom but as was typical for his life, it wasn’t empty.
“Hey brother brother!” two voices said.
Ron rolled his eyes at the twins. “That joke will never be funny.” Fred and George grinned, one sprawled on his bed and one in his desk chair.
“We just have this last semester to even make the joke. Afterwards, it’ll be pathetic,” Fred said.
“That 40k is so close I can taste it,” said George.
His twin brothers were two years older than him, however, they’d dropped out after their sophomore year to open a retail shop selling joke and novelty items. They quickly realized they were more interested in conducting their own research and development; manufacturing their own products to distribute and sell. It was certainly more profitable. In order to get the seed money, they returned to college after two years. Their schooling, like Ron’s, was financed by his Aunt Muriel and upon receiving their bachelors degree, Muriel also handed over a $20,000 cash gift. The crotchety old broad put a lot of value on their schooling.
“And little Ronniekins is going to spend his on a girl,” Fred teased. It was then that he noticed Fred was fiddling with the small gray ring box that had previously been hidden in Ron’s sock drawer. He moved to snatch it back but Fred tossed it across the room to George.
Ron frowned. “First, I’m not spending it all on a girl. Part of it will be for the wedding and the rest I’ll save for a down payment on a house. Maybe not in Boston because we may not stay there after she finishes law school.”
“Oh yes, Bah-stan,” George mocked in a truly terrible accent.
“Yes. She’s sure that it’ll happen. She’s a legacy or something like that. I hope so because I think Boston Beer Company is going to make me an offer.”
“Free Sam Adams? I’ll take it,” Fred nodded.
“Secondly,” said Ron. “She’s not just a girl.”
The twins groaned. “Ugh, Ronnie, there’s no free beer yet. I can’t listen to this sober.”
Ron rolled his eyes.
“I have to ask,” started George. “Are you sure about this? You’re so young and it hasn’t been that long. You could still go to Boston with her without getting engaged.”
While it was annoying to get another “you’re too young” speech, it wasn’t often that his brothers asked him a serious question. “I’m sure. She’s the one.”
“Well then,” said George, flipping the box to him. “Go get her.”
A few hours later, he was shifting nervously in his seat at their table at Chaudron Qui Fuitfont, playing with the same gray ring box in his pocket. The dinner course had been cleared and they were now waiting for dessert to arrive as well as the bottle of champagne he’d surreptitiously requested.
“Astoria, have I told you that you look absolutely breathtaking tonight?”
“Just three or four times,” she laughed.
“Well, I might tell you a few more,” Ron said.
“It’s not everyday that you put so much effort into a date. I had to deliver on my side as well,” Astoria replied.
“It’s appreciated,” Ron smiled. “I-I appreciate everything about you. How gorgeous you are, how driven… the past 18 months with you has really made me sit down and focus on what I want for my future, you know?”
“That’s great, Ron,” Astoria said, reaching across the table to give his hand a squeeze. She glanced around him. “I want another glass of Merlot.”
“Yeah. You know I’m in the final stages for jobs at three companies,” he said.
“Mmm,” she said distractedly.
“Including Boston Beer Company,” he added.
“That’s a reputable company. Although make sure the job isn’t on the Truly brand. They’ll never get the market from White Claw. Mark my words, they’ll fizzle in two years.”
“Astoria, I see my future with you.”
She looked up at him sharply. “What?”
“Yes. I love you. I’m ready to start the next stage of our relationship. Astoria - ” Ron stood up, pulling the ring box out.
“No.”
“Will you marry me?” Ron asked, kneeling next to her.
“No, now get up.”
Ron’s blood suddenly ran cold. “Wha-what?”
“I said, no, now sit down.” He numbly followed her direction.
“Ron,” Astoria sighed. “Oh, honey, I’m sorry.”
“But… why?”
Astoria gave him a pitying look. “Look, we have had so much fun. You’re a great guy.”
“Great guy? You told me you loved me,” he hissed, trying to keep his voice low to avoid more embarrassment.
“And I do. As a college boyfriend. You are a great college boyfriend. You’re president of the second best fraternity on campus so you get all the best party invites. You’re on the cross country team so I can tell everyone I’m dating a Division I athlete, but you aren’t in one of those sports where it like, takes up all your time. You had a cool internship, everybody on campus loves you because you volunteer and help and you’re nice to everyone, even the janitors. You’re sweet and you’ve got a great body and you… you know,” she dropped her voice now “always deliver on what’s promised. You’ve been the perfect person to spend the last few semesters with.”
“I… I don’t understand what the problem is. I sound great from what you’re saying,” Ron seethed, frustration clear in his tone.
“I need a man for the next part of my life. Not a frat boy, not even if he doesn’t exactly fit the stereotype. I’m going to Harvard Law School in the fall. Do you understand how big of a deal that is?”
“Yes! That’s why I am pursuing a job in Boston. To be with you.”
“At a beer company.”
“I’m not opening a bar with my buddies. It’s a research and development role at a major corporation!”
“You have a degree in food science,” Astoria replied, rolling her eyes.
“It’s not like we spend all our time eating. It’s a real field. I got an A in Organic Chemistry.”
“Org Chem with Murphy. The serious students take it with Professor Kettle.”
Ron just gaped at her.
“If I’m going to be a federal judge by the time I’m 40, I need to stop dicking around. And I’m sorry, you’re not a Marty Ginsberg.”
“Yeah, well, I’m not an Armie Hammer either. Feels like there’s some wiggle room between those two extremes.”
“You’re a great guy. And I’m sure you’ll be a great husband to a marketing specialist or a pharmaceutical sales rep. And maybe if I was going to go to Wayne State or Northwestern, things would be different. But this is Harvard Law. There are just… expectations that any potential spouse meet a certain intellectual bar. Or at least a social bar. I mean, my sister is engaged to a Kennedy!”
At that point, the waiter approached the table with their desserts. Astoria stood up. “I’m really sorry. I’ll just call an Uber.” She paused and kissed him on the cheek before exiting the dining room.
“Uh, should I wrap these to go?” asked the waiter as Ron watched Astoria leave.

OUTFEST 2020 FILM REVIEWS: The Rest Of The Fest
As the curtain closes on another Outfest, this one presented under extremely unusual circumstances, I sit in awe of the filmmakers and of the staff who put together not only a great group of films, but managed to creatively bring them to its audience online and at drive-in screenings. Typically, you find yourself having to choose one film over several others, but with this new format, you have a great chance of seeing everything you want. In past years, I found myself lucky if I saw 15 films. This year I saw 23 features and 4 shorts programs out of the 160 on the schedule.
As it’s impossible to get full reviews submitted for everything while the festival is still chugging along, I wanted to write capsules of the remaining films not covered at TheQueerReview.com . Please visit the website for all the other reviews I wrote as well as those by my colleagues.
THE OBITUARY OF TUNDE JOHNSON ★★★★★
Melding a Groundhog Day-style concept with police violence against black people, this stunning film could not be more prescient and emotionally overpowering. A black gay teenager relives his moment of murder over and over again, with slight shifts in the narrative taking us to someplace unexpected and earned. Director Ali LeRoi directs his first feature as if he’s been doing it all of his life and has interpreted Stanley Kalu’s ingenious script with a great cinematic approach. Gorgeously framed, beautifully acted, written, and directed, this is one of the most powerful films of 2020.
TWO EYES ★★★★★
I can’t form sentences here so I’m gonna vomit out words: Instant classic. Glorious. Set over three centuries seamlessly melding a triptych of stories about gender identity. I’m a blubbering mess. Fantastic and very funny last line. Travis Fine is a very gifted filmmaker who screams love child of Terrence Malick and Kelly Reichardt. Heartbreaking. Inspiring. Unforgettable. Montana is so beautiful. Barstow is not. A perfect film for anyone who wants to find their place in the world. I wouldn’t complain if TUNDE and TWO EYES both received Best Picture Oscar nominations.
DRAMARAMA ★★★★
Theater nerds rule in this incredibly endearing, early 90s set film about a group of high schoolers discovering themselves in one night at a ridiculous Murder Mystery-themed party. Hilarious script, vivid and wonderful performances, and the opposite of a “Coming Out” movie in the best possible way. Jonathan Wysocki has given us The Breakfast Club for air-kissing, mid-Atlantic accented freaks and geeks.
CICADA ★★★★
What happens when a traumatized, bisexual man who has more sex partners than any standard montage can contain slows things down to concentrate on one kind but also traumatized young man? This elliptically told film has a fun, flirty side but carries its heaviness with great ease. A terrific feature debut for director/writer/editor/lead actor Matthew Fifer.
THE STRONG ONES (LOS FUERTES) ★★★★
From Chile comes this sexy, moving story of two men at cross purposes who form a beautiful bond. Set against some stunning scenery and mining the chemistry between its two leads for everything it has, I am half-jokingly calling it Brokeback Andes. It’s so much more than that trite, hackneyed comparison.
MONSOON ★★★1/2
Director Hong Khaou’s followup to Lilting sets its sights on modern day Vietnam as Henry Golding’s character visits to find a suitable place to distribute his mother’s ashes. It’s a terrific mediation on a gay man finding a sense of belonging in a place he’s never been and Golding proves himself to be a subtle, compelling actor. Perhaps a little too quiet and reflective, the film makes up for what it lacks in narrative drive with its awe-inspiring cinematography and immersive qualities.
P.S. BURN THIS LETTER PLEASE ★★★★1/2
What an unexpected surprise. Michael Seligman and Jennifer Tiexiera’s documentary about a treasure trove of letters dating back to the 1950s brings us into the world of drag queens from almost 70 years ago. With many of its subjects not only alive but in fine form telling their stories and the dishiest voiceover readings ever to grace a film, I was not only thoroughly entertained, but I didn’t expect to weep like Laura Dern at the end. Oh, this is so so so so good.
MINYAN ★★★★
Eric Steel’s feature debut has its own unique tone and a star making performance by Samuel H. Levine, a spitting image of a young Al Pacino/Sylvester Stallone hybrid. With its 1980s Jewish Brighton Beach backdrop, this powerful yet subtle film about a young man coming to terms with his sexuality as well as his place within his religion, it’s a stunning debut. Ron Rifkin is stellar as Levine’s charming grandfather and Alex Hurt (William Hurt’s son) has his father’s intensity. Fantastic, lived-in production design which feels like its decade without resorting to the usual candy colored tropes and a evocative score makes this a memorable experience. Reminiscent at times of On The Waterfront, this film puts a fresh new spin on a coming of age tale and finds so many moving moments from first sex to an elderly gay couple hiding in plain sight. A must-see.
SHIVA BABY ★★★★
Writer/Director Emma Seligman must have studied Rosemary’s Baby quite a bit with this angsty story set mostly at a memorial service. Rachel Sennott is fantastic as a young lesbian who moves from one cringe-worthy moment to the next in an attempt to avoid as much conflict as possible. The great supporting cast includes Polly Draper, Fred Melamed, Dianna Agron, Molly Gordon, and Jackie Hoffman, all note perfect. Less a comedy and more of an emotional horror story, Seligman knows how to make the best of a cramped space and throw up an endless variety of obstacles. You just want Sennott’s Danielle to get her goddamned bagel with lox and cream cheese, but the fates have something else, something better, in store.
COWBOYS ★★★★
Steve Zahn gives a career best performance in this moving story of a father with mental health issues and his trans son escaping into the Montana wilderness. Sasha Knight makes an impressive debut as Zahn’s son and Jillian Bell expertly walks that fine line between villain and empathetic character. Its comparisons to Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid are not coincidental. Not perfect by any stretch, it may feel fairly conventional, but it’s tackling a vibrant subject matter. Extra points for giving Ann Dowd a role where we don’t hiss at her.
BREAKING FAST ★★★
Solid romcom with a Muslim backdrop, this very tight, deceptively simple script provides just the right amount of sparks between its charming leads, Haaz Sleiman and Michael Cassidy. While structurally not breaking new ground, the entry point into a world we don’t see enough of on screen coupled with food porn for days makes this a fun, funny, goes down easy delight.
ASK ANY BUDDY ★★★1/2
Q: Daddy! Daddy! What were the 70s like down at the Piers in NYC? A: Oh shut up and watch this movie.
An experimental collage of vintage gay porn and archival footage from the disco, pre-AIDS heyday gives this film a mesmerizing, museum installation quality. While technically without a story, you feel like you’ve gone on a journey nonetheless. Would pair well with William Friedkin’s Cruising.
DRY WIND ★★★1/2
Slow cinema meets voyeuristic gay porn in this one of a kind Brazilian exploration an arid small town, a workers’ union crisis, and a man obsessed with the Tom Of Finland drawing come to life who motors into his life. Overlong and a little too obtuse as it goes along, it’s worth watching this Alice In Wonderland takes a quaalude, gets a very hairy back, and has a lot of sex in the dirt.
NO HARD FEELINGS ★★★★
This year’s Teddy Award Winner at the Berlin Film Festival, Faraz Shariat’s film uses its backdrop of a refugee camp in Germany to tell the story of Iranians and Irani-Germans searching for a better life. Its three leads bring a spark and youthful energy to a story with devastating undercurrents. A wrenching glimpse into the emotional effects an oppressive culture has on its people, yet told with a driving pulse.
LILY TOMLIN: THE FILM BEHIND THE SHOW ★★★
A look behind the scenes as Lily Tomlin and wife Jane Wagner workshop their legendary 1980s Broadway show, The Search For Signs Of Intelligent Life In The Universe. It’s great to see these two at the top of their game and get a glimpse of their creative process, but this documentary is almost devoid of incident and feels more like a sweet gift to the fans than a fully realized film.
SHORTS: WHAT A BOY NEEDS ★★★1/2
A mixed bag here of people searching for excitement, I found a couple of gems here nonetheless. Not to take away from the shorts I don’t mention, I want to single out two exceptional films. Ruben Navarro’s Of Hearts And Castles looks great, has a beautiful vibe, and shows us a lovely connection forming right before our eyes. Kiko’s Saints proves highly original as we follow a female Japanese artist on assignment in France become obsessed with a gay couple who have a lot of sex on the beach. Combining animation with fairly explicit sex, I loved seeing the male gaze from a female perspective.
THE CAPOTE TAPES ★★1/2
I love Truman Capote. I grew up at a time when smart authors found themselves on talk shows and were treated like superstars. I’ve read his books and always have been in awe of his ability to be himself. Featuring never-before-heard tapes of Capote’s friends being interviewed by George Plimpton, unfortunately, I don’t think this repetitive documentary gave me anything all that new. It’s still touching at times and for the uninitiated, this is a great overview of his life, but I was watching the clock.
OUT LOUD ★★★1/2
A moving look at the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles as they prepare for their first public performance. With its ticking clock storyline, director Gail Willumsen expertly interweaves storylines of its founder and members. As such, you really learn what’s a stake and what it means to them. I was lucky enough to see the chorus perform David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust a few years ago and basked in the power of its mere existence…and was also ridiculously entertained.
TWILIGHT’S KISS (SUK SUK) ★★★1/2
This quiet charmer form Hong Kong shows us something we almost never get to see on film - two elderly gay men meeting and falling in love. The fact that both have been married to women doesn’t stop them from exploring their feelings. A little to gentle by half, I still was in awe of this rarity.

The Mixtape Mishap - Chapter 6
New Year’s Festivities
The girls made their way down the stairs, with Hermione trailing a bit behind. She hoped that if Ginny and Fleur made the grand entrance first, she could slip into the room unnoticed because everyone’s focus would be on them. As Fleur and Ginny entered the room, she heard all the boys stop the mild chatter she had just heard. They were no doubt gaping at how beautiful Fleur looked with her silky long blonde hair against a modest shimmery deep blue dress.
“Uh, Ginny, if we’d known that’s the dress you’d picked out with Fleur, we most certainly would not have gotten that,” Bill said tersely.
“Yeah, it’s a good thing Mum didn’t let you invite Dean,” she heard Fred agree. Hermione wished she could see the look on Harry’s face right now.
“Well, I think you look spectacular,” Hermione heard what sounded like Tonks’ voice.
Oh good! Tonks is here, another person to talk to while I avoid Ron. Hermione was taking a few more deep breaths before finally making her way in when she saw Harry turn quickly around the corner and almost run into her.
“There you are!” he whispered. “Ginny just sent me after you. Why are you waiting here?”
“I- I don’t know. I thought those two could distract the attention and I could just slip in, but apparently not,” she hissed back at him. Hermione noticed Harry was wearing a light green button down shirt that brought out his eyes, with a black paisley tie and grey trousers.
“Well, the longer you wait, the more obvious your solitary entrance is going to be,” Harry commented as Hermione self consciously tugged at her short skirt of the dress once more.
“Who’s out there anyways,” she couldn’t help but keep stalling.
Harry gave her a look, but indulged her question anyway. “Everyone. Oh, Tonks is here, too. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley went upstairs for the night. I guess they trust Bill to keep an eye on things.”
“I see.”
“C’mon Hermione, just go. It won’t be a big deal if you don’t make it one,” Harry pushed.
It really shouldn’t be a big deal, but something kept Hermione rooted to the spot. Obviously, Harry hadn’t gotten the job done because Ginny rounded the corner next.
“Hermione, why are you still here?” she said half quietly. “Come on! You have to see what Fred and George have done! It’s amazing!”
“It is pretty impressive,” Harry agreed. He turned to Ginny and whispered, although loud enough for Hermione to hear, “I think she’s scared, if you ask me,” as he smirked in her direction.
Hermione instantly became annoyed at his criticism. I am absolutely not scared, she thought to herself, ignoring the fact that she still hadn’t moved in what had probably been a good five minutes.
“Scared?” she heard Ginny say. “Aren’t you a Gryffindor? Maybe the sorting hat should have put you in Ravenclaw if you can’t walk into a party,” Ginny rolled her eyes playfully. Hermione knew she was goading her on, but still didn’t like it.
“Oh, honestly!” Hermione said annoyedly as she clambered down the remaining stairs and walked into the room. She turned back to them and said, “Are you happy now?”
Harry laughed as Ginny said, “Quite. It’s about time you joined the fun!” as she gestured into the completely transformed sitting room.
The twins had completely outdone themselves on the decorations. There was an entire wall of silver and gold holographic balloons in all shapes and sizes; the center housed four rose gold balloons that said ‘NYE 1997.’ There were also more silver and gold balloons hovering all throughout the ceiling for more decoration. Hermione noticed the furniture had been moved around and even transfigured to take on more of an ‘elegant party’ vibe, and two tables were set up. One table had various snacks and finger foods that Mrs. Weasley must have prepared for them, and the other table had champagne bottles and flutes on one side for a midnight toast, no doubt, and several black and silver cylindrical objects that Hermione wasn’t sure of. Aside from the glowing ambiance the balloons on the ceiling seemed to give off, nothing looked particularly out of the ordinary yet, though she was sure Fred and George must have some tricks up their sleeves if they were testing out a new line of products tonight. Hopefully it’s not in party games, Hermione thought.
A cat call whistle broke Hermione out of her admiration of the decor as she heard George say, “Damn, Fleur, I think you may have some competition on the most attractive female, here this evening. No offense, Tonks!”
Tonks laughed as she said, “None taken,” though it was hard to hear over Ginny who shouted, “Hey!”
“Sisters don’t count, and you should not be dressed like that,” Fred said teasingly, even though he was probably serious.
The twins didn’t notice Bill’s glare at their remark about Fleur, but she took it in stride as she commented, “I ‘ave no issue not being ze most attractive one ‘ere for once. “Hermione does not know of her own beauty.”
Hermione blushed profusely at Fleur’s words, and noticed Bill whisper something into Fleur’s ear as she melted into him. Hermione stood there awkwardly trying to avoid everyone’s gaze by looking around the room. That was a mistake, though because she froze when her eyes accidentally landed directly on Ron, who was staring directly at her, eyes slightly wide and mouth open. Hermione had to force herself to not physically gasp at the sight of him, looking more attractive than she thought was even possible. He was dressed in a light grey shirt, a tie that matched her dress perfectly in color, and black trousers.
She forced herself to look away from him and direct the conversation away from herself. “So, while this does look spectacular, I can’t say it’s anything magical or out of the ordinary from muggle decorations in general. Except for that balloon wall. I’ve never quite seen some of those shapes, let alone numbers,” Hermione commented.
Thankfully, Fred took the bait of her remarks, and didn’t address the obvious looks Ron and Hermione had just given each. “Ah, but Hermione, don’t you know by now that George and I always have tricks up our sleeves? I’m disappointed that you don’t believe in us!”
“Yes, all of our products will speak for themselves in due time. Though, now that you mention it, we should tell you if you’d like to spike the cupcakes over there, one of our newest inventions are ‘shot shots’. All you have to do is pick a flavor, and inject it into the cupcake!” George demonstrated his description while everyone looked on in curiosity.
“Happy now that we’ve revealed something? Now, what say we begin the festivities with some muggle music?” Fred flicked his wand and ‘Shake it Off’ began playing through the wireless.
“What? How?” Hermione was speechless. How were they able to play that music?
George laughed as he said, “A little help from Lee. He figured out how to hack the muggle wireless system and was able to pick out all the upbeat songs and put it through a wireless channel.”
“Brilliant!” Ginny said as she tugged on Hermione’s arm. “There’s so much room to dance!” Ginny didn’t hesitate to start dancing as Tonks and Fleur joined them and the boys began distracting themselves with food. Despite giving into the music and dancing with the other girls, Hermione couldn’t help but feel like she was being watched.
A few songs in, Ginny pulled Hermione close and said, “You know he’s been watching you this whole time, right?”
Hermione, who’d deliberately kept her back to the boys, nodded and said, “Yeah, I had a feeling,” as a small smile crept on her lips.
“You know Harry hasn’t taken his eyes off you either, right?” Tonks nudged Ginny, whose face immediately flushed red. Hermione gave her a knowing look.
The girls took a break to eat some of the food that was laid out. The sweets were exceptionally good when the ‘shot shots’ were added, Hermione noted. After they’d refueled and rested for a few songs, the girls went back to dancing some more. This pattern continued for the next couple hours, where they’d take breaks and eat snacks or drink Butterbeer when they didn’t like a particular song. Then, someone would undoubtedly drag the rest of them back to the clearing in the middle of the room when another good beat came on. Fred, George and Bill even joined in a couple times, and they all laughed at Fred and George’s ridiculous dance moves. Hermione continued to enjoy the distraction, as she still wasn’t sure what she’d say to Ron when the time came, so delaying the inevitable was the next best option.
The latest song that was playing ended, and ‘Bad Blood’ began playing on the radio as Ginny squealed. “Ooh, I love this one!” The girls had moved slightly in their circle, and Hermione was now able to see Ron sitting with Harry. She noticed him straighten a bit and wondered if he heard the words and associated them with the title of the mixed CD she’d made. She hadn’t included the song in there, and couldn’t remember why. Probably for the better. After it ended, Hermione excused herself to use the loo.
Harry nudged Ron. “Now’s your chance.”
“What are you on about?” Ron asked.
“Go up there and wait for her to come out of the bathroom and finally talk to her. Unless you’d rather approach her down here where everyone can hear you.” Harry wondered if he had to spell out every tiny detail.
“And if she ignores me?”
“I swear if I have to watch you two eye each other and dance around whatever the hell is going on, I’m going to hurl,” Ginny appeared out of nowhere with her witty mark.
“Oi! No one asked you,” Ron retorted.
“I didn’t need to be asked. I’m stealing Harry so now you have no excuse. Now go, or I’ll tell the twins you’ll volunteer for free to be their test subject on any and all new products for the next five years,” Ginny said as she held out her hand to Harry, evidently forcing him onto their makeshift dance floor.
Ron sniggered at the thought of Harry getting roped into dancing as he trudged up the stairs. He knew enough not to test Ginny’s bluffing, even though he still wasn’t sure what he was going to say to her. He’d been at a loss for words ever since she emerged from the stairway. That dress was enough to do him in right then and there. He leaned against the opposite wall waiting for her to emerge. He fiddled with the paper in his pocket, hoping it’d be enough to win her over this time.
He heard the bathroom door open and he looked up to see a startled Hermione staring back at him. “Could we talk?” he asked her before he wimped out.
“Oh! Er, I- I don’t know,” Hermione said as her cheeks flushed red. She pretended to listen downstairs, “I really like the song playing right now…” she lied.
“Just hear me out, yeah?” he pleaded with her, blocking her way downstairs for a brief moment. “I’m sorry I didn’t take you seriously that day in Herbology when you talked about Slughorn’s party. And I’m sorry I let my jealousy get the best of me. I fucked up, alright?” He dug the paper out of his pocket. “Just- promise me you’ll go read this, and if- if you want to talk or anything after, I’ll be in my room for the next fifteen minutes. If I don’t see you, I’ll just assume it’s a pass and I’ll see you downstairs later.” She took the paper from him and stared at it as Ron turned to continue up the stairs to room. He turned back briefly to say, “By the way, you look amazing tonight,” as his ears turned the deepest shade of red. He turned and continued on his way.
Hermione stood there for a moment before slipping into Ginny’s room to see what it said.
XO
Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down Swingin’
Am I more than you bargained for yet?
I’ve been dying to tell you anything you want to hear
Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner
I keep my jealousy close
‘Cause it’s all mine
And if you say this makes you happy
Then I’m not the only one lying
I’ve got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea that Says You Should Shut Your Mouth
I’m hopelessly hopeful
You’re just hopeless enough
Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year
So give in or just give up
Are we growing up or just going down
I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I got Was this Stupid Song Written About Me
I found the cure to growing older
And you’re the only place that feels like home
A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More “Touch Me” **
I confess, I messed up
Dropping I’m sorries like you’re still around
And I know you dressed up
“Hey kid, you’ll never live this down”
And you’re just the girl all the boys want to dance with
And I’m just the boy who’s had too many chances
I'm sleeping on your folks' porch again, dreaming
She said, she said, she said, "Why don't you just drop dead?"
I don't blame you for being you
But you can't blame me for hating it
So, say, what are you waiting for, kiss her, kiss her
I set my clocks early 'cause I know I'm always late
Write me off, give up on me
'Cause darling, what did you expect?
I'm just off, a lost cause
A long shot, don't even take this bet
You can make all the moves, you can aim all the spotlights
Get all the sighs and the moans just right
I'm sleeping on your folks' porch again, dreaming
She said, she said, she said, "Why don't you just drop dead?"
**Listen to this one on Ginny’s walkie thing. It’s the Fall Out Boy Album. #11
Please give me a chance to make this right..
Hermione couldn’t believe it. Ron must have taken the time to turn the tables and do the same thing for her. She was trying to figure out when he would have even gotten Ginny’s walkman to do this. I must have been in the shower. How sneaky of her! She thought as she pulled her own walkman out of her bag. Hermione picked it up to listen to the song Ron had requested of her, even though all the lyrics were already written on the paper.
She paused. Come to think of it, they listened to all the albums she had brought, plus both of Ginny’s. Maybe he used Harry’s mix? Of course he’d include where to find it, given the cheat sheet she’d written for Harry. You know, in case he needed Ginny’s for reference. Hermione carefully picked up the headphones and placed them over her ears, turning on the device. She skipped to #11 and read along with the lyrics while she listened to the song. When it had concluded, Hermione immediately turned off the walkman and placed the headphones over it. The song resonated with her in a way she knew wouldn’t have if she’d just simply read what was on the page. She knew exactly what she needed to do next.
***
Ron made his way up the stairs and entered his room. He was sure Fred and George would probably kill him if he got his clothes overly wrinkled, but he didn’t really care. He wasn’t expecting to just leave her with the paper, but when all was said and done, he figured that she deserved the same privacy he had with hers.
Something Harry had said gave him the idea. I know she’s bloody brilliant, but try and meet her on her level. So that’s exactly what Ron did with Harry’s CD and Ginny’s borrowed player. Harry had gone down to borrow it anyways, but didn’t question when Ron asked to use it for a while. It helped pass his time as he worked through the songs, hoping to find some that had some lyrics that fit what he wanted to say.
It really was genius to use someone else’s words to express their own. And what was even better, was that Harry had a whole song on his that applied to how he felt about her and their whole situation, even if the title was a bit questionable. Ron sat on his bed, leaning forward so his arms rested on his legs as he stared at the clock. Ten minutes for fate to decide.
What was I thinking? Giving her a deadline. Will she really know what I meant by asking her to give me a chance? And what if she does show up? Of course I didn’t think that far ahead. But that’d mean he’d be optimistic when he wasn’t sure if he actually felt that way. Time was dragging, yet flying, at the same time. At some point he realized there were five minutes left.
With three minutes left, Ron was ready to give up. He stood and walked towards the door, stepping out of the room and shutting the door behind him. When he looked up he was surprised to see an out of breath Hermione.
“Where were you going? Ginny’s clock said I still had three minutes.” Hermione bit her bottom lip, “At least I don’t think I’m late..”
“Wha- No, I just didn’t think - You actually came!” Ron stammered.
“Of course I came! Unless, that’s not what you wanted?” Hermione hesitated.
“No! I mean- oh sod it!” Ron said as he reached out, grabbing Hermione by the waist and pulling her into him as his lips crashed down on hers.
Hermione was stunned at first, with one hand resting on the arm Ron used to pull her close, and the other resting against his chest. After she’d recovered from the initial shock, realizing that Ron was indeed kissing her, she eagerly returned the kiss. Hermione’s hands traveled up and wrapped around his neck of their own accord as Ron broke the kiss, for what Hermione hoped would be a brief moment.
“Is- is this okay?” he asked her breathily.
“More than,” Hermione said through a wide smile.
Ron returned her smile with his own signature lopsided grin as she leaned in for more. After Ron was convinced he’d given Hermione her own proper first snog, he broke away. “As brilliant as this is, we should probably head back down before Harry or Ginny come to check up on us.”
Hermione pouted. “I suppose you're right. What should we tell them?”
“Hmm, not sure. What do you think?” Ron knew she already had a plan forming.
“I think we should mess with them,” Hermione said with a devious smile.
“Oh? What did you have in mind?” Ron raised his eyebrow as Hermione quietly whispered her plan to him.
Oh, this is going to be good, he thought.

{5 Cartoons That Could Possibly Survive a Live Action TV Remake}
Hello there!
My name is Arabella but you can call me Arry, if it’s easier. I don’t know about you but I basically grew up on cartoons. And it seems to be a new craze in television history for cartoons to be remade into new adaptations for a new audience. It doesn’t surprise me that cartoons are the main source for this as they are noticeable. Recently, Riverdale and Sabrina: The Teenage Witch have been remade into CW Television Shows. And while I find Riverdale to not be that great of adaptation and murder of character. I have heard more nicer things about Sabrina: The Teenage Witch yet never watched it. Despite this and me thinking this television shows have not survived their live-action adaptations. I will be listing five cartoons that I think could survive a Live-Action Adaptation and I will explain my reasoning and how it may be done and also issues that may be concerning. Let’s invade this topic!
(Scooby Doo)
My favorite cartoon of all time, Scooby Doo. I am nineteen years old and I have yet to grow out of Scooby Doo and probably never will. It is reaching its 50th year anniversary this year and is still a cult classic. We have had four (not including Daphne & Velma) live-action films that have featured Scooby Doo but we are talking about television shows here. I personally think that Scooby Doo could do better as a live-action television show because you can get multiple mysteries, more monsters and the characters will receive more development. You can also have guest star characters such as The Hex Girls. Yet I have my doubts due to how poorly Archie has been transformed with Riverdale. I feel like Scooby Doo will help avoid stereotypes and forced diverse tropes. As the gang is one of the most diverse group of characters ever. It would be extra amazing if they added in the 60’s-70’s fun charm that the cartoon had. And of course, kept it light-hearted and fun yet aiming it for more young adults and less-so teenagers and children. This will open doors. After watching Daphne & Velma, I do have concerns with forced diversity that may murder the characters as Daphne and Velma did not portray either character accurately. In the name of forcing female empowerment yet ignoring the female empowerment that is there. Fred is the brave, kind-hearted, hilarious and slightly clueless jock who is friends with everyone. Daphne is the fashion-motivated, kick-ass and clumsy popular girl whose greatest value is how quick she finds out things. Velma is the intelligent, sarcastic nerd who is an equal to Fred and fits in perfectly. Shaggy is the hippie who is hilarious, a scaredy cat and athletic who has yet to use more than 1% of his power. And Scooby Doo is the animal sidekick who has character development and has an actual snack named after him. It would make a great television show if done properly and written great.
(The Jetsons)
I promise, these are not all Hanna-Barbera shows. Except that all of them could be made into wonderful adaptations. The Jetsons is about a futuristic family who live in 2062 that includes George Jetson, a hard-working father. His wife Jane who shops and takes care of the house. His oldest child and only daughter, Judy whose a teenage girl and slightly rebellious. And his youngest child and only son Elroy whose an intelligent kid. And their dog Astro and robot Rosie. Non-surprisingly, The Jetsons is actually outdated and nothing like the actual future. This adds a lot of fun aspects with mixing vintage and newly futuristic ideas. While introducing new concepts into the already existing plot. The Jetsons unfortunately was limited due to animation budget and short-running time with only two seasons that they weren’t able to expand the universe. I feel as if, a new revival of the show could potentially expand the universe and make the characters a bit more realistic. As they are your average futuristic family who can go through relatable issues while keeping with the theme. They could also embark on making Judy more fashion-forward and gifting us unique character designs for the character. As I know that Judy was my favorite character and definitely someone that I could relate to. And of course, keeping the 60’s charm and having more humor. Less dramatics for TV Remakes please! Embrace the humor. And sci-fi is definitely still selling in pop culture and with the graphics we have nowadays, The Jetsons would look absolutely stunning compared to what would have happened if they had perhaps made one in the past. Again, it all comes down to casting and writing. The real-life aesthetics of The Jetsons would be beautiful cinematography wise. It may seem a bit more impossible due to how high a budget would probably have to be to achieve most of the futuristic aspects like flying cars and in the air scenery. Yet the best thing to take advantage of with The Jetsons is how vintage the futuristic aspects are, they can really use a retro futuristic vibe. The Jetson’s futuristic isn’t on the same level as Star Wars or even typical Sci-fi. The effects do not need to be overly complicated as it is mostly dependant on vibe and charm. They could very much go for an Indie vibe where it could be made with a low budget. Choosing style and substance over realism and overdone effects.
(The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy)
Hear me out, as this is a weird one. I grew up with The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy and I lowkey blame it for my dark sense of humor. Mandy was one of those unique characters whose clothes did not match her personality whatsoever. Billy was humorous with how stupid yet straightforward he was. And Grim is… I relate to Grim in my old age. This show was such a creative premise to young me that like I adored it. Of course, I loved all things creepy. But seeing that Billy and Mandy and the other young characters were only 9, it is a realization that it may be physically impossible to have a live-action show where the young actors could react in a way similar to let’s say Mandy and Nergal Jr. However after some consideration, I realized that as this will probably be a revamped version, that they could age up the characters. And we could see how Mandy, Billy and the rest have developed into older ages. This of course brings up a lot of new ideas and concepts, new plotlines, and new character developments. Aging them to be teenagers and even young adults can add a more mature theme while keeping the dark humor. It can be darker yet still keep the fun and theatrical side. As it would no longer be targeted to young children but more so, the audience who grew up with the show. Seeing how our childhood characters have grown up to be near our ages. This could bring up more conflicts, relationships, and dynamics. Especially because a popular ship is Mandy and Billy as they are older, so it would be interesting to see if that would come to screen and if they would be compatible being at least ten years older at most. And of course, the graphics would absolutely fantastic since we have ways to make CGI look realistic and would bring on the creep factor. And perhaps, they could even give Nergal Jr more of a character and more humorous scenes. It could survive a TV Remake in this sense because it would be more so, a sequel and they would be working on newer material and not trying to perfect older material which may come in handy with writing.
(Totally Spies)
If anyone asked me what my three favorite girl-based cartoons were as a child, I would always respond with, “Powerpuff Girls, Bratz, and Totally Spies”. Totally Spies was my ultimate dream television show, they were my Charlie’s Angels before I discovered Charlie’s Angels. Even in my youth, they were relatable. And I don’t care what anyone says, Totally Spies was ahead of its time and very diverse. You had Clover, the fashion-forward girl with a sassy personality and although her flaw was being shallow, she usually always learned her lesson. Sam, the introverted and intelligent one of the group who figures things out quickly yet is too quick to trust others. Alex, the hilarious and tough one who has problems with being invisible. They were feminine and kick-ass and taught me that I shouldn’t be ashamed to be into clothes or hair or makeup as I could still kick ass. I think Totally Spies has the diversity that Hollywood is looking for as they will not have to force anything into the mix, it can be a relatable and humorous show about three girls who are best friends and spies. They can have awesome character designs, great dialog, and mix realistic issues into the fictional issues of being a teenage spy. While also showing girl power and how to handle evil people. While also bringing back former fashion trends, especially the 70’s that Totally Spies is known for. With cool costumes and cool gadgets. This would be a kick-ass show when given the right humor, writing, casting and charm. No one can prove to me otherwise.
(Daria)
I am ending this on a rather tricky note as this television show really depends. With the other ones, they’re classics but changes can be made. Daria was ahead of its time and has relatable humor that even fits now. I remember discovering Daria when I was fifteen and going through a tough time and she really learnt to accept myself and my sense of humor. Now while Daria is being rebooted and I have lots of issues with the reboot before it has even come out like the fact it’s called “Daria & Jodie” when Jane Lane was a bigger character than Jodie yet they just ignore her because diversity. I do think if they were to reboot Daria properly, a live-action television show could be great. It will give a new element to the already great show. Of course, casting Daria would be rather hard as you need someone who can remain likeable yet still have a sarcastic aura. And Jane, the slightly more expressive witty best friend. And of course, Trent, the hot older brother of Jane who should have gotten with Daria! Daria is a great show for all ages, especially teenagers to young adults as it really shows the humor of common high school stereotypes. While keeping the complexity of each stereotype in its sense. A lot of Daria’s quotes still hit a string with me to this day. Especially the one where she is at college open-house and responds to the woman asking what goals she has, “My goal is to not wake up at 40 with the bitter realization that I’ve wasted my life on a job that I hate because I was forced to decide on a career in my teens”. That quote still stays by me as I am nineteen now and it’s like my life motto at the moment. And a live-action Daria could play off the nostalgia and have a lot of older watchers which will make it more money than a reboot that may destroy the characters for the sake of diversity. And forgets the true importance of Jodie. I would rather watch a live-action television show than a reboot cartoon as reboots never go well in cartoons.
Well, that was five cartoons that I feel can survive a live-action remake and how they could. Keep in mind that everything you just read is my opinion and I am not asking Hollywood to look at my post and make all of these into live-action television shows. As the thought of that frightens me. Yet I feel like with the right cast and writers, it can be done. Thank you for reading my post. thank you sm for the tag darling!!! @borkingbarnes 🤍
First Fic: Fall Apart (Din) - she’s kinda short, i was nervous about her but it was the first time i really put my writing style into practice
Favourite Fic: i rly like my fred and george fics - they just give off really cosy, fluffy vibes and they just make me really happy - i also feel i got to experiment more with description with fred’s fic which was fun
Most Recent Fic: Of lace and laughter (George) - i had to do a george fic it felt wrong not to
Fic With the Most Notes: Linger (Draco) - it was my first longer piece and my first harry potter one which was exciting !
A Line or Two from a WIP: Motivation - Dean Winchester
Dean Winchester felt lost - and no attempt to throw himself into the crossfire or indulgence in women and booze, in hope of clouding his mind in an intoxicated haze, could seem to quel such a feeling. That was until he met you.
Favourite characters to write for and why:
Dean’s been really fun - there’s just this charisma within his character that makes adding moments of fluff and just breaks from tension so easy!
I also love Bucky - I love how there are these two sides you can explore and to break down this tough exterior and to explore this broken, softer side of his is just so so lovely to write
Character you find it hard to write for:
Of characters i’ve written - Anakin - it was easier than I thought but I’m not that attuned to his character yet so it will take some getting used to
Others- Female characters in general - Nat and Wanda are on my list - I just have no experience in writing for them and so the idea is sort of daunting lol - if anyone would like a piece for them i’m so down to write one it would give me a reason to give female characters a go!
No pressure tags: @beskar-tano @gcdric @etherealsanakin @xwing-baby @anakinswhore @cap-n-stuff
Thank you @blueberrythor for the tag!! 💖💖
First Fic: This guy. There’s some mistakes and grammar/tense errors that I’ve neglected to fix, but she’s my firstborn so 😌
Favorite Fic: Salt. By far. It’s very different from my other fics and I haven’t been able to write one quite like it again. But man, I love this one. I’m also incredibly fond of Love at First Sight
Most Recent Fic: Control (the beginning of my Geralt love hehe)
Fic With the Most Notes: It was Cherry Stem Kisses before Tumblr did its whole porn sweep which did absolutely nothing but be an absolute pain in the ass and deleted it, Cockblocked is now #1.
A Line or Two From a Wip: Nothing Ever Happens on Dusty Beds
You had noticed it on day six. The steel glare that he wore began to crack, moments where confusion shone through in lieu of the cold, expressionless mask. You had seen him as he had stood in place for a second too long, staring at a stone pillar, brow furrowed as if trying to remember something. A moment of weakness. If you hadn’t been given explicit orders to work with him, he would’ve been laying on the ground with the others. There was no room for weakness here.
@buckyland’s soon to be favourite angst fic :)))
Favorite characters to write for and why: Bucky because there’s a duality to him. He’s experienced the harshness of war, knows evil firsthand, and just has a lethality about him that I’m very attracted to yet he has a potential for such softness. I like being able to choose which aspects to focus on and write about.
Character you find it hard to write for: Natasha. Lord knows she can top my ass any day and has given me many thots™ but I’m unable to write for her. I just can’t get her character right.
I find Geralt kinda hard to write for as well, just thinking about what he would say and such due to the way he phrases things and I’m constantly struggling with “would he even say this shit out loud?” 😂
Tagging @ayybtch @heli0s-writes @nacho-bucky @buckysbeloved @sunmoonandbucky @dirtychocolatechai if you wanna!
