wut did the convo between darry and child services go like? obvi was complicated but like genuinely how did he convince them he could b the guardian of 2 teenage boys? he genuinely must have nerves of steel.

also like must have been the worse adjustment if he always confided in paul or his dad when stressed, but now has no one. like his just isolation from any close relationship is soooo noticeable, esp compared to his brothers who actively lean on their best friends

just ignore that this might end up horribly inaccurate🙏 i’m here for a good time alr leave me alone😭 but fr darry was going through the traumas of odysseus on his voyage back to ithaca when he should have been getting lit at the club😔

Darry’s shell shock looks a whole lot like numbness. That’s how he feels, too, so when the same officers who just told him they’re very sorry, but his parents have been killed in an accident, he just stares and hears them iterate for him what exactly he needs to get done immediately. He forces himself to actually listen, because this isn’t about him, it’s about Pony and Soda and keeping a roof above their heads.

He needs to locate his ma and dad’s birth certificates and legal documents to have their wills probated and assets distributed, schedule an appointment with the funeral director, schedule a date for the funeral itself, meet with the court to be appointed Pony and Soda’s legal guardian, but that’s only after they deem him fit to be the sole caretaker of two teenagers. They’ll assign them a case manager. They’ll ask him what his salary is, they’ll call his old coaches to ask about his time management and self-discipline—what if he comes up short in some way? What if he makes a mistake and gets his brothers thrown in a home?

Fuck, then there’s the personal arrangements. He needs to call the college dean and tell him extraordinary circumstances have forced him to drop out, probably he’ll still have to pay for the rest of the semester he didn’t get to finish. When the case manager comes over for their meeting—the house is a mess from Darry’s birthday party, they’ll think Darry is okay with raising his brothers in filth. Something about bank statements too, he’s sure he’ll have to go over it, see what his parents have been paying for, what he’ll need to pay for and what he has to cut now that money’s about to be tighter. Bills, taxes, he needs to draw up a system to distribute those payments overdue or not. Groceries, do they need to go shopping soon? With what money? With Darry’s money, he needs to get a job now.

Darry gets to work.

Identifying the bodies is the first thing he does. He lets Steve and Johnny stay over to keep Pony and Soda company. Two-Bit offers to come with Darry to the hospital, but he refuses. When he gets to the hospital, he sees Dally standing at the entrance, cross-armed and stone-faced. He doesn’t even look at Darry when he arrives. Just pushes himself off the pillar and shrugs. “Your call.”

Darry says nothing, so Dally follows him in. The police lead him to the morgue. The sheets are carefully folded back to reveal their faces, and Darry’s stomach heaves and his eyes blur. His parents are shredded. They’re just bodies, sliced, crushed bodies. He doesn’t even realize he stumbling until a steeled hand grabs him and keeps him upright, and Dally’s saying “Easy, easy, man. Breathe, Darrel. That them?”

Darry nods. All he’s think is that it’s going to be a closed casket funeral.

The wills are the next thing he deals with. Once those are probated and the surrogate has deemed them official, Darry is free to pay the fees and obtain his inheritance, as well as transfer his parents’ money to his name in the bank.

Next, Darry searches for a job. Something physical, or something to do with numbers. He was going to be an accountant after all, might as well make some use of the few months he spent studying. After busting his ass hunting and applying, he lands a job at Fitzmorris Roofing and starts as soon as he can. The pay is decent, but not enough, so he keeps looking. Eventually he finds out about a firm at the edge of town looking for a bookkeeper, so Darry goes in for an interview and walks out with his second job.

Then are the bank statements. Darry gets issued a copy of his parents’ bank statements from the previous month and spends entire nights going through them. After crunching the numbers twice, he finds out that in two months from now, they’ll have to go without paying the electricity bill for a few weeks while Darry’s paychecks catch up with expenses. Better than going hungry. They’ll just have to deal with the dark.

So far, they’ve been feeding off the numerous donations from families around town. Lasagnas and casseroles and meatloafs, that’s what they’ve been pushing around their plates for the past two weeks. Darry surmises they have about one more week to make those last, then he’ll need to crack open a cookbook or two.

He meets with the funeral director. He advises Darry on what graveyard to pick, what kinds of caskets to hold the bodies in, how much of the burial will be covered by insurance. All Darry understands is that this is money he’ll need to cut from their budget. It eats at him.

Darry blinks and a week has gone by.

He doesn’t really remembering seeing Pony and Soda during it. Everything’s a blur. But he looks at a calendar and realizes with a seize of his heart that their case manager is supposed to meet them for the first time in—an hour and a half.

Shit, he hasn’t even gotten to cleaning the house yet. There’s laundry on the fucking couch, for Christ’s sake. Darry snatches it up and bangs down Soda and Pony’s door, dumping it on the bed. He sees a lump under the blanket and a jolt rocks him—that’s your brother, that’s Ponyboy, he’s grieving, he’s in pain, he needs help—but all he can do is kick the mattress and tell him, “On your feet, Ponyboy, Mrs. Mulligan’ll be here for dinner.” Pony doesn’t move, but there’s nothing else Darry can do, so he rips the blanket off Pony and leaves, slamming the door behind him because his own strength has become unfamiliar to him.

Soda’s in the backyard doing whatever the hell Soda’s been doing while Darry was out, and he’s called in but he comes trailing in like a wet dog. Darry doesn’t know what he’ll do if this meeting doesn’t go well, if Mulligan says Darry is not suited to provide for his brothers, how he’ll possible be able to live by himself knowing his brothers have been separated, so he snaps for Soda to stand up straight and fix his hair. Soda looks at him blankly, and again there’s a voice in Darry’s head—Sodapop’s not alright, he’s not talking, he’s not smiling, he’s not laughing, you have to fix this—but all he can say is “Now, dammit” and hits the countertop, spooking Soda enough to get him to flee, and Darry’s alone again, cleaning the table of the bills and documents, pushing them on top of the icebox and out of sight.

Darry’s prepped one of their last donated meals, macaroni salad, and set the table as nice as he can.

Fifteen minutes before Mrs. Mulligan arrives, he checks in on Pony and Soda. He stands outside their door, hand raised to knock, but he can hear them talking.

Talking about him.

“He’s gone crazy, Soda, I swear. When’s the last time you saw him stand still for two seconds? If you’ve seen him at all.”

“Dunno, Ponykid.”

“I miss Ma. I miss her and Dad. It’s like Darry hasn’t even noticed they’re gone.”

“Naw, baby, don’t say that. He’s trying, I think. He’s trying awful hard. We just don’t see it.”

“You don’t even know that. What if he’s making plans to shove us in a boys’ home?”

Darry can’t take it. His breath is lodged in his throat, but he can’t go falling apart right now, not when he’s come this far and still has a long way to go. He just knocks and calls them out to the living room.

Darry can’t meet their eyes when they sit in the living room. Pony’s lean on Soda’s shoulder but Darry can’t think about that, he’s got to put the macaroni salad in a bowl and clean off the utensils and “Pony, I told you to wash the dishes this morning.” With his back turned to his brothers, Darry winces. Anger never used to seep out this easily. But everything was enough of a threat to push him over the edge. Everything everyone said to him pierced him like a hook, made his tongue feel heavy and his blood feel hot. He needed to put a lid over it tonight.

Mrs. Mulligan’s eyes don’t rise to Darry’s when he opens the door for her. She looks behind him at their living room, at Soda and Pony on the couch, makes a funny noise in the back of her throat, then extends her hand out to Darry. Immediately Darry knows he’s going to be on the defensive the entire night. This woman does not approve of where Soda and Pony are being raised. Whether that means she doesn’t approve of the East side as a location or Darry as a guardian, he isn’t sure.

She drills him, but it’s disguised as gentle. Darry does everything slowly. Serving the food, making small talk, discussing Pony and Soda’s grades. Mulligan switches to speaking directly to the boys, and Darry’s not hungry, but he pretends to enjoy chewing the rubbery macaroni and keeps his head down.

Despite their reservations about life without their parents, Soda and Pony defend Darry to the case manager. It goes smoothly enough that she leaves Darry with a smile and a promise to stay in touch.

When the door clicks shut, Pony is gone in the blink of an eye back to his room. Soda just stalks into the kitchen and starts wrapping up leftovers, cleaning off the dishes. Darry tries to get Soda to sleep, but Soda turns to him.

“I’ll do the dishes, Darry. Just don’t get mad at Pony.”

“No, Soda, I’ll do it—“

“You’re tired, Darry. Let me be useful?”

Soda always knew how to spin the conversation in his favor. He was right. Darry was tired. He was just… tired.

But there’s a reason Darry hasn’t given himself a restful night yet. He doesn’t trust himself yet.

“Give me the sponge, Sodapop. Pony needs you.”

Darry’s had sixteen years to learn how to outmaneuver his kid brother. He’s not in the mood to fight fair.

Soda concedes and draws away from the sink, but he lingers in the doorway. “We need you, too, Darry.”

“I know. I’ll be here in the morning.”

He wouldn’t be. He’d be gone by the time they woke up, on top of a roof with bundles of roofing slung over his shoulder, but it wasn’t his physical presence that mattered. He was going to keep their heads above water, no matter what it took.

“When’s the funeral?” asks Soda.

“Friday.”

Two days. Two days until it was official and their parents were covered in dirt. Darry just needed to keep it together until then.

“G’night, Darry.”

“G’night.”

When the funeral comes, Darry’s quiet. Pony and Soda are weeping, unashamed by it, so Darry’s the one people feel comfortable giving their condolences to. He shakes a lot of hands, feels disgusted by it, like he’s collecting germs and other people’s bad luck. The gang is there, even Dally, but they hang in the back of the crowd, discounting Two-Bit, who’s up front with his ma and sister.

After Darry gives the eulogy he doesn’t remember writing, he watches twin caskets get sunk into the ground, dirt spilling on top of them, and Darry is officially alone. He leaves the ceremony, goes and sits down on a bench outside the fencing.

Not yet. Don’t break yet.

A shadow falls across his own. Dally’s taking drags from a cigarette at his side. He’s just as quiet as Darry, but offers the cancer stick. Darry accepts it, taking a few puffs. He’s out of practice and coughs the first time. Dally just pats his back and waits for him to try again. It feels good, but not the kind of good Darry knows he can depend on. He slumps against the door and slides down, messing up his hair and crying into his arms, only as hard as his silence will allow. Pony and Soda are in the next room over, still teary, consoling each other. Darry won’t steal their reprieve.

He falls apart alone, wondering how he’s meant to wake up tomorrow in a world he doesn’t want to live in. And when he picks himself up and puts himself back together, he’ll do that alone too. He doesn’t have a choice.

Warnings: none really, tarot cards mentioned & used, the most random idea that popped into my head 😅, modern witchy reader, i just started practicing tarot, sorry if its a lil inaccurate, implied sh, implied underage drinking

Suspiciously, Edward eyes the cards spread out on your bed. "I never took you for someone who believes in tarot."

You stick your tongue out at him and let his comment slide off of you. Going back to the pull you'd just done, you hum pleasantly. He'd previously been reading beside you in bed but once he saw you shuffling your cards, he grew curious. "Why do you say that?"

"Well. . ." He reads the undertone through your thoughts and chooses his words carefully. "Alice can actually see the future. Compared to that, this is just a card game."

"You can't really see the future with tarot." Chuckling your smile up at him catches Edward off guard. You weren't offended. Not by a long shot. That was the common misconception everyone held. Especially your parents. They thought the cards were no better than your Pokémon ones from childhood.

Edward's attention slowly focuses on your fingers placed upon the first card you would flip over. He can't read your thoughts, your mind was a haze. Did the cards actually hold magic? This peaked his interest.

"My life before you: the Chariot reversed." You glance and smile when you find him examining the card. You're cute.

His honey orbs flash up to you, a little embarrassed at how focused he'd been. "And what does that mean?"

"Usually the Chariot represents direction and control. Tenacity in how they charge forward. But when it's upside down. . ." Index finger taps the card. "Before you, my life didn't have direction. A definite lack of self-control." You chuckle remembering how when you and Edward were still in the friends stage of your relationship that he helped you out when you were indulging in under age drinking.

Edward's usually sharp features soften at your thoughts. You were on the verge of destroying yourself when his family showed back up in Forks. One of those kids that had the reek of cigarettes clinging to them and fear of revealing her bare arms to the world. The saddest thoughts staining your mind. Every so often, he'd catch a glimpse of warmth within you. No matter how small it was to you, it was blindingly beautiful to Edward.

Another card is turned over. "My life when I met you: the Star. A welcomed relief and the inspiration of hope." You're my guiding star.

Internally you squirm when you watch him grow flustered, the most adorable, bashful grin pulls at his lips. Threatening to turn into a full on grin that would bely the immense happiness your thoughts gave him. For being nearly one hundred years old, he was still a bashful teenager at heart.

"And finally, my life with you in the future. . . Temperance."

"I thought you said the cards couldn't really look into the future." He teases but its lost much of his previous conviction.

"Not really. More so just gives you a soft nudge in the right direction. Hush or I won't tell you what Temperance means."

"Yes ma'am." he chuckles and zips his lip.

You playfully clear your throat and return to your reading. "Temperance. Harmony, balance and happiness. It can even represent soulmates."

"Well. . ." Edward's coaxing finger under your chin turns your face toward him "I didn't need a card to tell me that you're my soulmate." His hooded eyes now has your tummy performing flips. Pressing his lips against your's, the kiss has you forgetting about your cards and crawling atop his lap.

When he pulls away, Edward presses his forehead against your's. "But it is. . . odd how by mere probability you drew those exact cards. And how they just so happen to coincide with events in your life."

You laugh. "Oh I love when you talk sexy like that."

So even though the language is more or less identical for you to make heads and tails in a conversation or writing in a book, the reverse side does not.

Creator!Reader who knows a couple of languages (plus points if they're atleast fluent or have a understanding of it despite not being able to speak said language) and being born from a country that doesnt have the same language as the countries Teyvat based off. Basically Spanish, Italian, Filipino, Scandinavian languages that also have their own way of writing.

Imagine feeling homesick and the only thing that keeps you occupied is the notebook and pen you have while the others converse in a meeting or in a hangout. You started writing in your tongue and re-reading it to relive memories.

Zhongli, AlHaitham, Albedo, Jean, maybe the Berry bros too (Diluc & Kaeya) get curious only to have a double-take and immediately thinks that maybe there is a forgotten land in Teyvat that has this language, I mean Morax stayed faithful to Liyue and Barbatos blessed his country with abundance of supplies and freedom. Teyvat gods and archons played favourites, so why wouldn't you as well? (Bonus: Khaenriah flashbacks) (also I know these arent enough characters but how should I know? I only have a handful of them and I ran out of Primos😭

The people from Akademiya though? I mean they went hard on theorizing and picking apart the language of their creator. Have you seen Matpat's descent to insanity the more FNAF continues to push out LoRe? Thats basically them because Teyvat doesn't have a country based on Creator's birth country. They're grasping nothing but air and dead ends and the only lead they have is you, but couldnt ask because you look so down and they cant bear to see Creator sad....

Your smile brightens your face once more, clearing away any leftover stormclouds from your mood earlier, and as you launch into explaining (Xiangling had to get back to orders, so it’s just you two now)

You list it all, the quintessential: quesadillas, empanadas, tamales, chorizo (you had to combine at least 5 different spices to Mondstadt sausages to get anywhere close to the real thing) the dips obviously, salsa, queso, guacamole, and the easy street tacos, and finally the horchata, but also all the weird fruits Teyvat has with chile, like Sunsettias mixed with Harra from Sumeru or Lavender melons with Wolfhook berries… all surpringly pretty good

(the Sun-Harra combo tastes like mango, a sort of deeper taste of pineapple/kiwi and a sort of light orange taste? all with the nice addition of chile flavors, the Lavender melons and Wolfhooks helped imitate chamoy enough that your heart was satisfied)

…you realize you’ve just been talking about the last meal you had with your family/friends instead of the food after a bit, and Zhongli hasn’t said anything…

you trail off and look back over your shoulder (u were practically about to get your shirt in the imitation guac u were leaning so far over the table to point and talk)

you’re about to sheepishly apologize for taking over the conversation, and ask if he wants to try anything (Zhongli can handle spice so u dont have to worry abt that at least)

but as u finally see his face, u just stop, and dont end up saying anything

He’s just, looking at you.

his smile's not huge, but big enough to make his eyes look happy, and Zhongli’s just… looking at you.

You can’t describe the look he’s giving you, but you suddenly feel… a wave of shyness wash over your heart in your chest, because he’s looking almost like, maybe like, he’s sort of, waiting for you to keep talking, his tan skin warm in the golden rays of the sun beginning to set, you don’t know why you’re noticing any of these things, and he gently, slowly, makes a move to lean into your space a little

almost above your armrest, head inches from your shoulder, he finally moves to stop looking at you-

He looks like a painting as he looks down, his eyelashes almost sitting on his high cheekbones,

you have to move your head to looking at the table too as he moved so close,

you feel your shoulders reflexitively hitch upwards as you brushed the hair on the side of his head as you turned away

He looks around, and then moves his head, not his body, he’s still leaning toward you, to look you right in the eyes again

“Why did you stop? I haven’t said much, I apologize, but it’s only because I wanted to hear you without anything interrupting you.”

You cough a little strained, “Oh! Oh I get it now yeah, thanks-”

“I want to hear you more,” his black eyes begin to warm with gold, you can vaguely see the shape of his diamond pupil revealing itself, “I want to hear about… everything, if you’ll tell me? The language, the food, the drinks, your family, your dances, your country, I want to hear it all. Won’t you please let me hear your voice some more?”

The day started with a headache, which wasn’t rare for you in the slightest. Your pain relief was reminding yourself that you had plans with Eddie. Though, that only went so far.

He’s an incredible boyfriend. Sweet and patient, understanding. You’ve had to cancel plans on harder days time and time again and not once has he complained.

Sometimes, you can’t even believe you’ve found him.

You missed him, and you wanted to see him, so you knocked on his door just as planned.

“Hi, sweetheart,” he greets you with that grin of his.

“Hi.”

“Feeling okay today?” He asks.

“My head hurts. It’s not that bad.”

He nods, but he knows you’re probably downplaying it for his sake. He ushers you inside with an arm thrown over your shoulders and a kiss to the top of your head.

“How about we stay in and binge movies?”

“Depends,” you say. “Will you cuddle me?”

“Will I- who do you think you’re talking to?” He guides you to the couch once you’ve taken your shoes and jacket off, leaving you to grab some blankets and coming back with his arms full. “Yeah, I’m gonna cuddle the shit out of you.”

Being with Eddie is easy, a no-brainer. He brings you the sort of stability that’s hard to come by in your life, and you could never thank him enough for it.

The first movie is his pick, one you’ve both seen a bunch (mostly together). The lightheadedness doesn’t come until about halfway through. Again, it’s not uncommon, so you try to breathe through it.

It doesn’t work for long, and you reach weakly for Eddie’s hand. He gives it to you without question.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart?”

“I might faint,” you warn him.

You’re not sure how Eddie hasn’t seen you have an episode yet, but it’s very, very likely that he’s about to.

He’s nervous. Of course he is. You’ve told him what to do, how to help you best, and he’s known about your POTS since your first date, but he’s still nervous. Eddie doesn’t want to do anything that might hurt you.

He squeezes your hand in his.

It’s not long after that your eyes are fluttering, your hand loosening its hold. Your body leans forward, headed off the couch, but Eddie uses his free hand to catch you as gently as possible, redirecting you so your head rests on his shoulder.

His hand strokes over your hair softly, smoothing it away from your face. Through your episode he’s whispering quiet ‘you’re okay’s and ‘I’ve got you’s. He’s reassuring himself and you.

Eddie can’t help but think of how strong you are. To be such a bright person dealing with so much. He turns his head and kisses yours for it.

It’s only a couple of minutes, but to him, it feels like hours before you rouse, blinking your eyes open slowly and grasping his hand back.

“Hi, baby,” he says quietly.

“Hi. What happened?”

He knows about the brain fog, too. He simply continues to pet your hair and says, “you had an episode. I’ve got you, though.”

“Okay.”

It takes a bit longer for you to come back to him fully, but he’d hold you all day if it helped.

Eventually, you push yourself up to look at him, your head off his shoulder but hand still stuck in his. His grasp isn’t tight, but it’s unfailing.

“You okay?”

“Mhm. Thank you.”

You feel like a simple ‘thank you’ isn’t enough. Eddie’s the best person you know, and he’s supportive in a way you never thought existed in a boy. You bring his hand to your mouth and press a kiss into his knuckles.

“No problem.”

The only canon part i can mention is that during his conversation with Ashlyn at the school he mentioned how since he moved around a lot he never really had a true bond with anyone.

So Aiden didnt just want someone he could feel attached to, he also wanted to feel cared for. Its a two way street with him.

While I could see him loving physical touch as I doubt he got enough of that as a child and he clearly loves being touchy with people I feel like with what we know I could argue really any love language. He'd probably take anything if it makes him feel cared for.

I found a picture of a chart saying "your love language may show what you lacked as a child" and he checked every box so he's fucked.

I ultimately want to settle with physical touch as he seemed shocked when Ashlyn initiated the hug likely due to being the one to always initiate them. Like above he probably just wants his efforts reciprocated.

Monn’s boring routine changed however at the age of 17, from an accusation directed towards his family about their ancestors had made deals with the devil or something. This drove the family, more specifically his mother, into chaos as they tried to prove that they are NOT descended from sinners. His brothers stayed with Monn during this and tried to protect him from any hurtful words or bullying. (THE GOATS FRFR…)

After that fiasco, his mother blamed Monn for the event much to the dismay of his brothers, saying that he has finally attracted the demons to the household and cause misfortune to the family and most importantly, the family name.

Look at the time now, it’s the Napoleonic Wars now. Prussia is trying to find new recruits months before the battle of Leipzig! Remember the mention of his father being an officer? Well he came back home and took Monn with him as a punishment for bringing misfortune to the fanily name, even though he’s not even qualified for being a soldier. His brothers ABSOLUTELY protested, trying to persuade him to leave Monn alone, but well, that clearly didn’t work.

Now Monn is now an infantry! Hooray?? It is not fun getting yelled at by people, flinching at every cannon shot and getting told to stand still even though he can’t help it?? Absolute nightmare for him, but he can’t go back home and men shouldn’t cry. Monn has to take it and he is doing VERY well /sarc. So well infact, cannibalistic thoughts are starting to spiral.

Oh? Can you hear that? It’s the Battle of Leipzig! He gets sent off to fight in his hometown, which he is NOT happy about, and uh oh! That’s the Blight! Hell is overflowing and the damned are retaking their bodies. It was pure chaos and no one knows where to go for safety

And guess who showed up to save the day? Father Silvio!

He beckons any survivors into St. Thomas among the chaos, including Monn. Silvio during this time isn’t fond of him yet, but he takes his time to talk to Monn (even though he refuses to speak) to understand him a little better as the officers plan a way out with a temporary truce among the nations.

So the events of Leipzig happens, and it can ends in two ways:

Monn Rach ends up getting infected by the Blight and succumbs to the infection

or

Monn Rach gets out of Leipzig mildly injuried.

[To celebrate 400 followers I'm finally answering all these from my drafts :D]

28. What's a musical that you saw ages ago that you're still not over? What about it made you love it so much?

If watching a video counts as "seeing": Tanz der Vampire. I saw posters and ads on the street for the Helsinki 2016 production... but that was after it was already over, in April/May!!!!! I was so curious about it but forgot after the initial wondering. Then that summer I went to a two-week language camp/course in the UK (my first time abroad without parents!) where we were singing Total Eclipse in the music room and an older "camp counsellor" girl from Germany told us it's actually from a musical, and that night I took it as my sign to look it up and ended up watching sooo many clips on YouTube over and over for the rest of my time at that course, and eventually the whole 2005 proshot with English subs.

Something about it spoke to me in a way no other musical had before - I mean, I had liked POTO for years, that summer I also started listening to Hamilton, but neither of those rattled in my head to the same obsessive degree as TdV did <3

It came into my life at a special time, has come and gone since, and whenever I get back to it, it still hits the hardest out of any show I've ever watched. Whether it be the epic orchestral rock score (I'm not like an über Steinman fan but I like his stuff), the level of emotion (some would say melodrama <3) and the way the show itself has come to symbolise a lot of things to me over the years (freedom to leave an environment you're not happy in and remaking your life elsewhere; freedom to be yourself and go after what you want even if it goes against what's conventional or societally acceptable; the world belonging "to the shameless and the wicked" and the rest of us just having to roll with it). So yeah >:)

I've now seen TdV live three times: once in Stuttgart in autumn 2021, and twice in Hamburg this summer (2024). It wasn't perfect but it meant a lot :') I've also met Aris Sas and he liked my headcanons and hot takes, and wished me the best in my life and my studies 😭🙏

29. What's a musical that you used to really like but don't anymore? What made you fall out of love with it?

I think I'm falling out of love with Wicked!! It was one of the first shows I saw live (back in Finland) and that production left a lasting impression on me, but after seeing it in London twice (heheh) I think I'm satiated :') I will still want to see the movie though! I probably just won't have the energy to engage that much with the hot takes it will probably spawn kslsls. Plus I hate the discourse that the movie is stirring up about how the book is better and that should've been a movie instead dkkdldls. I think the book is kind of terrible and takes itself too seriously. Plus the sex scenes are bad bad bad bad....

Anyway - still like the musical, I think I have just overlistened to it and I don't usually find too much to "chew on" in the fandom space :D Especially since I don't know/care about Wizard of Oz lore 😭

Before I even go to publish ANYTHING I think "what if people say mean stuff about it?" "call me horrible for writing a character this way?"

I've written a lot of OOC fics. I once wrote an HP fic where Tom Riddle (he who must not be named) wasn't evil and was living a happy life with his Muggle wife even if that seemed highly unlikely.

I wrote it because I wanted to. But with so many people going off about how inaccurate fanfic authors and artists are—well, that's where less and less fics and fanarts start coming out.

I just wanted to ask your opinion as another fanfic writer🫶 A very talented one, and we're a whole lot thankful you continued writing🩷

You're not a bother anon!! Definitely not.

It's hard out here these days, I won't lie. Between interaction being down and this sudden wave of mainstream popularity, things have gotten rough in fandom spaces. It's not even just online spaces, I've heard people talking about how Cons are almost unsufferable now because it's gotten so mainstream, and no one is bothering to learn how to act in these spaces, or is refusing to learn.

I can't tell you whether or not to write and post things, that's up to you and what you choose to do, but the best advice I can give, is if you get people coming into your comments or inbox talking about how wrong your fic is or how "this wouldn't happen in canon", just delete it. Don't interact with it. Block that person if you can, if not just don't interact. Some of these people do this out of sheer ignorance for these spaces, and others do it to pick fights. They want the interaction, they want the argument. What I've learned over the years of dealing with people like that is to just not interact. Just don't respond, don't go trying to prove them wrong or change their minds. You won't. They don't want to learn. They just want you to engage. It's like rage baiting. They just want the attention and the controversy. Ignore them and eventually they'll run out of steam once they realize no one's listening.

It hurts when people say mean or awful things or give you "critiques" you didn't ask for, but in the end, just remember it's fanfiction. These people are getting upset over things that aren't real, for things that in the real world don't really matter. We do this for fun. We engage in fandom because it's fun, and it's free. It's a hobby. The internet has made far too many people think their opinions matter and that they should be heard. There are grown adults (and probably children) out here getting pressed over someone's take on a fictional character. Just do what I've seen people start doing and if someone sends you hate or gets mad, answer with a link to support Palestine, or Sudan, or Congo, or literally any fundraiser and tell them to put that energy towards real issues and not someone's take on a fictional character.

Write what you want to write for yourself, share if you want to, and shame the haters for not having better things to do than sit online and complain about some random person's take on a fictional character. It has zero effect on their lives. They can block, they can filter tags, or they can stay out of fandom spaces.

for today's post, I was thinking I should update everyone on my activities concerning rhythm thief for the past two years. I'll be spilling my monster truck of an essay filled with my thoughts and concerns (embarrassing) so I'm putting it beneath the cut 🤧

I haven't been able to work on RT as much as I would like to as compared to two years ago. I got really depressed to the point I couldn't go outside for months, then I got a part-time job for two months last summer, and I also reinstalled a game so that fandom's been at the forefront of my brain for the past two years. also, I started graduate school, and I'm on track to graduate by the end of this year!!! so honestly I've been giving my all to a different fandom's wiki work and my studies... and thankfully I'm happier now!! and then at some point, I will have to get my first big girl job 😭😭😭 praying someone will hire me 🙏

and then as for my rhythm thief activities, I don't know, sometimes I feel like I should be releasing the content all properly and beautifully packaged, especially since I'm not halfway done with some things. I don't like showing off my incomplete work I guess? but then today I realized that I should probably share what I'm doing so y'all know I'm not purposefully gatekeeping things or... I don't know (paranoid)

that said, here's a non-exhaustive list of things I have been working on or plan to do:

datamining ET and PC. I've been working on and off since 2020 with nicole and zai, two of my besties who have also lent a hand in researching datamining methods for images, audio, video, text, and working with the 3D models in both games. I want to somehow have the paris model viewable on the RT wiki using the interactive map function

this is moreso nicole's hard work, but once in a while, we're slowly uncovering/recovering RT materials like magazine article scans and TV interviews. it's quite difficult to track down magazine scans since we'd most likely need to buy some off resellers, and they're 10-year-old content so it's hard to track down...

tangentially related, I connected with a programmer acquaintance of mine and they helped me decode the entire PC text in Japanese, and I'm super excited to read it. I have plans to make a sort of story viewer site where you can select if you want to read the official EN translation, my translation, and the original JP text, complete with sprites, backgrounds, and text boxes. I wanted a nicer alternative than on the RT wiki, where the official EN script is up currently

about translations, I've been working on subtitling the ~24-minute TV special. I have the JP script done (with help from a Japanese friend) and timing done, but I just need to actually finish translating. I think I have about 1/2 done. I'm currently considering finding a proofer so that hopefully I will feel more assured about my work when it's done. it's tough getting the motivation to translate, but I really want to put out my best work possible for RT through accurate translations. I've seen what inaccurate/machine translations have done to create misunderstandings/the spread of misinformation in other fandoms, and yet I've been taking so much time... I feel guilty for sitting on so much content I want to go through but I often can't go through with it unless I feel up for it (which is rare) and I'm also terribly picky on my work so I like to translate things by myself (and leave proofing to another person). I'm sorry for being so complicated about this 😭

I said it last year, but I've been wanting to update my blog's theme to more accurately match it as an RT info hub in addition to counting the days until the sequel releases gimmick. I want to make the RT translations I release easily accessible, but I think I've been slacking on this because I feel I don't have much (multiple large projects) to showcase just yet

finally, for the RT wiki. I have plans to get back into editing for the RT wiki and I'm currently collaborating with some other trusted editors in various standardization and appearance improvements. unfortunately, I don't think I have enough time to tackle writing content for all pages... if anyone seriously would like to help describe characters and their actions in the main plot, locations, or anything else you think should be improved, please!! by all means, edit the wiki!!

I plan to host an RT 15th anniversary project in 2027 where fan works will be displayed on the TSX billboard in times square. I also want to release another RT doujin/zine again, but my JP friend and I are too busy to plan something concrete

if you scrolled to the bottom for the tldr, I think I often try and perfect things on my own, which is why it takes me so long to work on things... (also I'm like super picky, I guess that's the perfectionist in me). I have so many plans like translating this, subtitling that, releasing this datamined content, updating the wiki, participating in RT fan projects... it's a lot to balance when my mind is elsewhere and I've been feeling guilty and ashamed to admit it 😭

the other fandom that's been occupying my mind has taken up much of my brain space, and I'm thinking it might be healthier to cut back and refocus on RT, my main beloved fandom again, but it's a bit difficult since I have made myself a reliable figure in that fandom's wiki team 🤧 tbh I think I might have au/adhd or something cause wow..... I sure sound like it with my strong fixations and difficulty finding motivation (even though RT's the thing I love the most in my life)

I want to draw!! translate!! wiki edit!! do anything and everything for RT!! it's been massively difficult for me for years and I'm sharing my frustrations with you all 😭 before I knew it, so many years have passed and I have barely released anything. I hope no one thinks of me any lesser, but I thought it would be good to share my thoughts, my goals, and my passion with my followers since I think I'm more than "just that one person who's been running an RT gimmick blog for over a decade" !!! that's all!!! thanks for reading!!! 🥹🥹🥹
