I know I'm late to the show but as you'll all vividly recall from about 8 months to a year ago, I mentioned that I was studying Criminology, specially with regards to Criminology of KPOP stars and that's not me bragging, that's just letting you all understand that I am FULLY (in about 2 more years) qualified to share the following fact with you.

You all, I'm getting VERY concerned about Taehyung (who I am the #1 fan of btw) I can't remember what episode it was but I know I AM NOT the ONLY one who witnessed the attempted DROWNING of JK by Tae in what can only be described as a giant fish tank.

I saw....one man's feet....on another man's...back...under a general source of water and I just literally can't with this. Like I said, I am the biggest Taehyung fan in my neighborhood but how can anyone be expected to condone this? Is this not attempted murder? And since the answer that question is yes, absolutely...is that not a crime?

And even more disturbing than the act itself is...and brace yourselves because you're not going to like this part...is the enablement from fans---because I see no discourse on this. Not from taekookers or even from jikoookers (and I have researched their twitter pages and cute jjk skinship videos EXTENSIVELY purely for research purposes) and not a little bo peep from them either.

I know Tae is your idol. He is mine too but we NEED some accountability. People, even famous KPOP idols can't go around trying to kill their [🫡BROS🫡] in fish tanks. I mean come on!

My wish for 2025 is that we all do better and that's why since 2017, I have been watching Taehyung's escapades and antics with a critical eye so I can call OUT this shocking behavior as soon as I see the slightest glimpse of it.

I am not a joker or a member of a joker cult but please join me in being the best Taehyung fans that we can be by noticing stuff like this even if it's sometimes not really that noticeable. Let us be the first lime of defense. Let us hone our skills together so that we can even predict this shocking stuff before it even happens so we can criticise in advance to keep our FAVE, our #1 on track 🙏

my first fictional crush was goku at age maybe 6.

the first fanfiction i ever wrote was FF7. the second one was DBZ. the third was a crossover between them both. i was like. 8 or 9.

in 5th grade, i got in trouble in school for passing handwritten DBZ fanfiction back and forth with the boy who sat front of me in class, and my mom refused to yell at me for it because she was glad that i was doing something creative.

DBZ was one of the things that my brother and i actually did together as kids. we were never close because he's 6 years older than me, but i have distinct memories of coming home from school and he'd be waiting with the next 3 or 4 DBZ episodes he'd downloaded from the internet, japanese fansubbed in english because the english dub hadn't released past the frieza saga yet. so i knew how the series went before any of my friends did. he would also go to chinatown in NYC and come home with bootleg fansubbed VHS tapes of DBZ movies. this was like circa 1999-2001. i still have them at my mom's house.

before i knew that cosplay was a thing that people actually did, i went as pan from DBGT for halloween when i was 12.

when i did find out what cosplay was, i was too afraid to do it properly, so when i went to my first convention at 17 with a boyfriend who did not want to go with me but i made him go anyway (it was AnimeNEXT 2007), i threw together a closet cosplay of a genderbent mirai trunks. and i actually found the fucking picture i took of it in the bathroom at my mom's house.

(that's the closest you're ever going to get to a proper face reveal btw lmao a 17 year old picture of me where you can see more of my tits than my face.)

i then went on to properly redo my pan cosplay, and i cosplayed chichi as well. took a picture at a con with a lil baby like 3 year old who was dressed up as goku. can't find it right now though.

in 2011, i went to anime boston with @feelboss and @theggning and drunkenly ran into sean schemmel (the english voice of goku) and somehow ended up on stage with him later that night, still wasted, at the hentai dubbing panel. faked an orgasm on stage for goku in front of about 200 people. my first fictional crush. probably the most iconic moment of my con-going days. i was 21.

the very first time i was able to use analysis of a character's arc to accurately predict their future portrayal in canon was mirai trunks. when his db super arc aired, i remember just being totally floored like, "i can't believe i actually called so much of this" -- especially considering the fact that DB never really had much of a reputation of being consistent.

i just have so many memories of staying up late with @godtier watching DB and shitposting and RPing bardock and raditz and trolling the fuck out of each other, and just

man DB was such a huge part of my life and just... felt like it was always there for me.

i don't normally mourn celebrity deaths, but i feel like i've spent the last 30 years of my life with akira toriyama. losing him hurts so much. it feels like the world has had a little bit of hope fade away from it. i have a headache from crying.

i know that i would always meme on you for forgetting your own characters, but... thank you, toriyama-san. for everything.

Y’all I have a INSANE THEORY AND I MUST SHARE!!!

⚠️!!SPOILER ALERT BTW!!⚠️

These are all from the same episode in season 3. He’s wearing the same outfit in all the photos. I’m so scared to know why he’s having such drastic changes in mood in ONE EPISODE!

This started as me wondering why he has such crazy differences in mood in one outfit which led to a relization that I have written below;

In the teaser Lestat’s lawyer (Christine Claire) says that Daniel has 45 minutes with Lestat, so that probably means that each episode will be 45 minutes, so im so curious as to what will be talked about in the 45 minutes we have with Lestat in this episode.

Based off of his outfit and makeup compared to the outfit in the beginning of the trailer I predict that his outfits are going to get darker and blander and more colorless as the season goes on, and maybe mid way through the season he brakes (most likely the episode all the full gray outfit pics are from) then slowly either his outfits get more and more colorful OR they get closer and closer to white when we get to see THIS outfit ⬇️

He’s drunk on blood, wearing white, and sitting on a almost throne like chair with stereotypical Egyptian details on the arm rests, ⬇️

This will most likely be the episode near or at the end of the season, probably the finale, when we learn about Akasha and we might even get to meet her, I mostly think this BECAUSE of the details on the chair, but honestly that’s my only evidence for a season 3 Akasha appearance but I digress.

(Also please note the wedding band but we’re not talking about that yet.)

I predict that the full white outfit will be the outfit for the LAST episode, which is in direct conflict to the outfit that we will see in episode one ⬇️

His outfit has more color, and is also mostly black, which is on the whole other side of the color spectrum compared to the all white outfit I predict is his last outfit in the season.

And I also predict that the whole sparkly bloody man bun Lestat outfit will be episode 2 or 3. (I’m leaning more towards 2 but I’ll explain that in a moment) Mainly because in the trailer we see him chuck his copy of the IWTV memoir. In my mind it makes sense for Lestat to get rid of the book by episode 2 or 3, most likely to prepare to tell HIS side of the story.

In my mind it makes sense that his outfits will start of really bright and flashy like his outfit we’ll in episode 1 with the brat summer green jacket he struts in wearing, then over time his colors darken, dark red with sheer gray over it in episode 2 possibly, then maybe a outfit with a dark navy blue accent by episode 3.

If this is a 8 episode season (crossing my fingers) then by the end of episode 4/ the beginning of episode 5 he should have his break down. Over what? I have not the slightest clue (Louis. It’s gotta be Louis, right?) . But I do believe that by then he will be devoid of all color, lending himself to a more dark and monochromatic color pallet.

Then over the span of the lest 3-4 episode he will either;

A: slowly work his way through gray until he reaches his all white outfit

Or…

B: slowly add more color back into his outfits and then throw us a large campy fashionable curve ball by rolling up to the last episode in ALL WHITE.

Honestly A seems more likely then B, but I think B would be funnier to watch, just see him have like 2-3 really nice colorful outfits then BAM! All white with a wedding band.

That’s all I currently have for this theory, but as more content is posted I’m sure I’ll add onto it.

I will post a timeline of all the outfits we have so far and in what episode I predict they will appear in after this, and I will post more timelines and theory updates as we get more season 3 content.

PREDICTIONS FOR S7 (I haven’t watched a single episode, and I haven’t even seen the trailer lmao)

This is so I can look back and laugh at how wrong I was btw

1) Claudia redemption arc???? (I really hope this is true)

2) Callum definitely using Dark Magic again, but of his own will to again save someone (probably Rayla again) and she’s… in danger cause of Aaravos? So yk Aaravos forced Callum to use DM so he could possess him? Seems like something he’d do.

3) I feel like someone from our main gang might die… but I’m too scared to say who (whispers SOREN)

4) Rayla finally killing someone. It won’t be Callum, obviously, but she HAS to kill someone. The first season itself was a whole “I can’t kill” and then Aaravos being “lol you can’t even kill” so like. She has to. For the plot (angst).

Omg imagine it’s Soren she kills after all that time they fought each other hahahahha (not gonna happen though, how would it even come to that)

5) Ezran… hm. What could my angry boy do. Let someone die, maybe? Cause he’s all about saving and peace but he finally woke up and choose violence lmao

Since 2024 is ending, I thought I would post a 2024 summary of art I have made today here, so here it is!

Here's also a list of predictions I have for 2025:

1. My artstyle will improve once again. Maybe I'll also figure out to make more unique types of shading and better lightning too.

2. The remedy classes I've been going to this year will improve me as a person, considering I have autism.

3. I will get Hello Kitty Island Adventure and another Tokidoki Sandy figure for my Birthday. (I did get one, and I mean the rainbow for Mikołajki so here it is:)

4. I will reach 2K subscribers on YohTube in mid-late 2025.

5. Switch 2 presentation/direct in Early 2025, potential release date for Splatoon 4 gets revealed for late 2025 - mid 2026. Launch date MIGHT be possible too, but... Unlikely imo (I'm gonna show what I want for Splatoon 4 below those predictions, btw!)

6. Calling at the Telesisters episode 1 releases in early 2025. (For those who don't know: It's a Rinktuna related series I am currently working on with my friends right now)

7. I might potentially make new series for Ruby Choco Cookie! Films (Fanmade company made by me) during that year as well, but I still don't know

8. I will make a Wiki for Ruby Choco Gamez (Another fanmade company made by me?.

9. I will get a Side Order DLC card, as well as new manga and potentially new figures as well for Christmas 2025.

10. I haven't got one in 2024, so maybe 2025 will FINALLY be a chance for me to get the white belt for taekwondo.

11. Classicaloid season 3 becomes a thing (VERY unlikely but still lmao)

12. New Polish composer movie (I call him that jokingly but you definitely get who I'm talking about lol) featuring Eryk Kulm Jr releases in March 2025 (Only predicting this because March is his Birthday month)

13. I will finally watch Mighty B, Classicaloid (I only watched clips) and possibly the Tamagotchi anime (That's on my "watchlist" as well lol) too for myself.

14. I will get UTAU and make a voicebank called "RubyLoid".

15. A Codename Sailor V anime happens (Also unlikely but still. I would be excited if that occurs)

Anyways, what I want for Splatoon 4:

For Splatoon 4, I'd personally like to see the main hub (Considering Team Past's win) being something like a mix of retro, traditional Japanese and steampunk, and the idols being themed that way too. Would love to see Nintendo experience with this

I really have no ideas on what the story mode should be yet, but it HAS to be some kind of "post-Octoling-racism" sort of hero mode. The DLC can also be centered around the Great Turf War, sorta like an RPG where you play as Craig Cuttlefish. Oh and I would also love to see a replayal of hero mode missions (Sorta like the replay mode feature for online battles in 3 where you get to watch them again) but I'm not sure on how those would work

I wouldn't mind the former idols or former hubs returning

I am in a need of Splatfests returning again. These events were so much fun and even are lore-tied as well so I'd probably be mad If Nintendo doesn't add them in by the time 4 releases (I'd also like a take of adding ranked battles for Splatfests, and for tricolor to be playable as a regular mode)

I wouldn't mind new kits and apartments being in the next game, but it would still be cool

More customization features such as unique-looking pants, possibly even more colors than just black, fingertips etc.

And an obvious RETURN OF MINI-GAMES. Tableturf was kinda boring imo, we need games like Squid-Beatz or Squid-Jump to return with New ones as well. Oh well and AMIIBO HERO MODE MISSIONS!!! AND NEW "HERO" THEMED WEAPONS AS WELL!!! (And also Octarian themed weapons! Like those weapons Octolings had in the previous games aside from the Octoshot)

Yuri Duel Links 2024

(this is literally just a masterpost of everything that made me insane over the course of the event so I can reflect and laugh/cry/etc)

first of all the sentence "Yuri Duel Links Event 2024" would have put me in a coma if you told me that say like. a month and a half ago. when Lulu and Rin came in September I was SURE it was going to be at least early 2025 before we got him. and Yet,

I was in the middle of getting ready for a concert when I got a notification from the DL subreddit of all things that said "He's Finally In" and I saw a little picture of Yuri and I was like Lol. Yeah Ok. so then I opened duel links and checked and was hit with This:

and I was like Okay. okay. cool cool cool cool. I'm gonna be so normal about this. *narrator voice* "via the tags on this post, you could see they were indeed not normal about it"

and girl sorry I wasn't gonna be normal about it like I've wanted this cunt in duel links since he landed on my radar. I knew from the first episode he appeared in that he was going to be my favorite arc-v character because I tend to have a Type when it comes to characters. it's been the same since I was like 8. sue me.

I even started getting into theory territory I was SERIOUS

(this ended up not being the case but congrats to Dumon for being the July unlock that was a lot of fun)

HOWEVER SPEAKING OF PREDICTING UNLOCKS I DO HAVE TO SAY I made this list back in MAY predicting the rest of the characters for 2024, and while some of these are very out there and Not Happening (sorry Marik and Atticus) I DID ORIGINALLY PREDICT YURI FOR AN OCTOBER UNLOCK. (Dumon for July as well) I AM LITERALLY JOHN KONAMI I GUESS.

so time goes by and I have a month to grind gems for Yuri's box because OBVIOUSLY I need a full character deck for him. would tumblr user chimerafflesia do anything less. I achieved this btw. 9999 gems the day before the event started. I was READY.

October 23rd. I literally wake up at 6am because I was so excited I was like a kid on christmas. I am hit with these screens and actually got kinda misty eyed because it was Happening

I waited 5000 years (about 7 months) to see that "Event Exclusive" in front of him and it was real and happening like CHEERS I'LL DRINK TO THAT!

I recapped a lot of my initial reactions on day one here and here but it just doesn't do it justice like I was just so excited and happy and having the time of my life playing this little freemium mobile game. I've said it like 348735 times now but duel links is genuinely so fucking amazing to me I love this game so so so much.

AND THIS EVENT WAS SO WONDERFUL!!!! THEY DID RIGHT BY HIM I WAS (AND STILL AM) SO HAPPY. HIS CHARACTERIZATION STAYED INTACT. WE GOT SOME NEW LITTLE FLAVOR DETAILS FOR HIM. THAT MAY HAVE TO BE A SEPARATE POST BUT GOD. YURI FANS WE ARE EATING GOOD.

Just. man I feel like there's so much more I wanna say but overall it was just a really fun event. this might sound silly to some people but I really do have a special connection to yugioh in general and I do feel like it was fate when it came into my life. I really got into yugioh in April 2021 during a particurally dark time in my life and yugioh became like a lifeline for me. it was an escape. it still is. I'm always going to be grateful for this franchise.

I watched arc-v from March-April of this year (immediately after finishing zexal btw, which is the first time ever I watched two yugioh anime back to back) and to say it fried my brain is kind of an understatement like I still think about this show every day of my life. to quote my own tweet:

Yuri in particular is a fusion parasite all on his own he wormed himself into my brain and hasn't let go. I've rewatched his episodes so many times but I think I've seen arc-v episode 135 in particular roughly 124 times. could be more. it will be more.

I can't help but feel like watching arc-v this year was meant to be. (first of all, the same year I watch it FOUR arc-v characters get into duel links? divine timing if I've ever seen it) but in particular the timing of the Yuri event feels very nice. I've been dealing with some personal woes (particulary surrounding employment, amongst other things) and again this event was such an escape for me, even if just for a few hours each day. I can't wait until he's back in a few months. we will be there :)

I'm at the point where I don't really care if it's "cringe" to get this emo about shows/characters/games etc cuz at the end of the day this shit really does mean something to me man. I know what yugioh has done for me and what it'll definitely continue to do for me and I'm grateful for it <3

I have so many thoughts and I need to put them somewhere. This is just me listing every moment in this episode that brought out an intense emotion from me. 1. The opening sequence nearly made me cry

2. Even though the fandom predicted that the Collector would turn to good because of friendship, it was still done beautifully

And you know what? I love that they chose to show this because this is a magical universe and mammal-like beings can self pollinate and lay eggs. I love it. 12/10 decision. It was a good reminder of the fact that this universe is fictional and it doesn't need to adhere to our rules.

7. King's dad in general. His attire. The pun. The parental protectiveness. The advice and simple-yet-extremely-effective approach to morality.

8. LUZ. CHOOSING. HERSELF. AFTER SEEING HER SELF ESTEEM CRASH AND BURN, HER CHOOSING HERSELF IS SUCH A BIG DEAL AND I LOVED IT SO MUCH

9. The battle. Eda being a good teacher and knowing exactly what her student was struggling with. King and Luz's amplified 'weh'. THEM FIGHTING TOGETHER. My heart cannot handle this show, I was screaming

some thoughts on watched episodes:

4×15 - Death takes a Holiday: it was alright, i liked the scene with the guys learning how to be ghosts lmao

4×16 - On the Head of a Pin: okay okay this was THE episode. I mean, not a filler ep, not a little bits of plot relevant information ep, no, it was a proper, emotionally charged, plot relevant episode (and im not hating on other kinds of episodes here, I just love this specific type). ima just skip talking about Dean cuz. ouch. anyways we got Castiel doubting and a whole lot of character development from him and I absolutely love stuff like that. we got Sam getting more demon blood, damn???? im kinda mad about it, im getting more and more suspicious abt Ruby, i dunno man, it was a good episode

4×17 - It's a Terrible Life: woah woah woah that was pretty fun to watch. I mean, really, I dont have some deep thoughts about this episode but it was really fun and interesting to watch

4x18 - The Monster at the End of this Book: nice, interesting, quite funny at the beginning. I wonder where it all leads, also noticed that i enjoy recent episodes more than previously (such as yesterday) but that might be due to being near the end of season.

4x19 - Jump the Shark: maaaan i think it had much more potential than this. im mad that they killed off the guy, like literally this could've been a fun twist to the story and stuff. but whatever

4x20 - the Rapture: this one was certainly juicy, with all that happened, also Jimmy poor guy tbh, i feel kinda bad for the dude, also what happened to Cas and why, im curious, and man im so counting on further exploring his character and further development. also, man, the thing with Sam, Ive been getting worried for a while now, something bad was and is going on. anyways that was a nice episode to watch, scoring high even among today's share of eps or whatever

4x21 - When the Levee Breaks: oh man. the changing between the shots of Dean telling Bobby how he won't let Sam become a monster vs Sam's hallucinations of Dean telling him how hes a monster? good. Castiel freeing Sam??? why. i dont like Ruby. and i'm worried about Sam, man, i dunno. this is all frustrating, btw im writing this as i watch hence the comments about things that probably will get resolved by the end of the episode/season. also why the fuck are angels doing this. sam what the fuck. sam what the fuck man. dean why talk like your father. mm soo it's not resolved and im off to watch the next episode

4x22 - Lucifer Rising: i love Bobby man. Sam is terrifying and what the fuck dude. oooookay, damn. Sam chill the fuck out. well, yup, that was predictable tbh, the whole apocalypse thing, yeah. and Sam being important for breaking the seal, yeah. oh, come on, Cas!! oh yes yes yes go Cas!! Sam chill out man. bitch what the sam no. oh man. aw man here goes the next season. also a little bit of appreciation for the music at the beginning, i love the song that plays every season finale

5x01 - Sympathy for the Devil: aaaand here it goes for weird fans again lmao. btw how awesome for both of them to kickstart the apocalypse, one breaking the first seal, the other breaking the last. awesome. I knew that wasn't Bobby, my man would've never said something like that to Sam. it's honestly so good to see them working together again. can't but appreciate the acting as well. Here’s mine!

1. I am mostly Team Rational because I love the way this show depicts trauma but I also love seeing the supernatural side of things through the survivors’ eyes if that makes sense.

2. Natalie in the teen timeline because I love her compassion and softness underneath the front she puts on. Lottie in the adult timeline because I love her internal battle with herself and how afraid she is of her own mind. Misty is a close second in the adult timeline!

3. “Cornflake Girl” playing while Nat sees the mossy tree for the first time, Callie seeing the Adam Martin driver’s license in the barbecue, and Shauna eating Jackie’s ear. It just goes so perfectly with everything that’s going on (especially the elevated piano while Nat and Travis are scaling the mountain and the lyrics while Shauna takes the bite!)

4. LottieNat is my favorite ship I can’t help it Nat and Lottie are my favorite characters so having them together is a dream (TaiVan, JackieShauna, and TravNat are up there, too).

5. 1x09 “Doomcoming” is just amazing and captures everything I love about Yellowjackets. I love when they let the girls go batshit crazy, hoping we get more Doomcoming vibes in S3.

6. I want the Antler Queen to be Natalie because that would show a true descent for her in the Wilderness from being the most morally grounded one to the leader of the group at their most unhinged and primal. But honestly I think that Shauna might be the AQ after all…

7. I think the Jackie-eating scene is the best in the entire show. The “Climbing Up the Walls” song choice, the bacchanal feast flashes as a way of coping with the horror of what they’re doing, seeing them go fully feral for the first time, it’s such a well crafted scene.

8. I know this probably won’t happen but I’m just going to throw it out there that Cabin Daughter is alive and she will be revealed to have been Javi’s “friend”!

9. I relate to Shauna the most because I also admittedly have a bit of an obsessive/intense personality and I, too, internalize my emotions to a very unhealthy degree sometimes. I also grew up being in love with my childhood best friend who is very, very much like Jackie (and now we have been dating for 7 years!)

10. Mine is a mix of going to a Yellowjackets panel and sitting like 5 feet from the showrunners, doing everything in my power to score early screening tickets to Heretic and Companion, and pretending I was sick so I could go home early from work the day that the S3 trailer came out.

11. The male characters on this show get too much hate🫢 I like Travis, Jeff, Kevyn, and Walter (even though his introduction and storyline are rushed and forced). I don’t like them more than the female characters, but I like them nevertheless and appreciate their contributions to the plot.

review of s4 (skip if you don’t want to read criticism)

SPOILER WARNING

so, i finished season 4 a couple of days ago and... i liked some parts of it and one episode was good (episode 8) but for the most part i really absolutely hated this season and i never thought i would say that. in my opinion, it actually got worse towards the end! i must be living in a different reality from everyone else.

i’m sorry. i really am. but i have to get this off my chest:

- charlotte double-wielding guns and shooting up those white hand idiots like she’s in a john woo movie? awesome! except... it was dumb af. this could have been so good, i’m a huge genre fan of this type of action, but not at the expense of a character’s intelligence. there was zero reason for her to barge in there when she did. at least make it seem like they’re just about to kill the good pathologist, have them string him up or whatever and she sees and has absolutely no alternative but to intervene. or have them conclude their meeting and start making for the door. please, i’m begging, just anything to make her desperate actions make sense.

- malu taking a shot for kiddie fiddler wendt? thanks, i fucking hate it. for that matter, i hate what they did to wendt’s character.

- for that matter, awesome lgbt+ rep or uhmm not. reinhold and fred don’t even get a kiss or any significant scene together (the couples date at the very end is cute but too little too late) although fred actually has a fairly important role to play this season. we never even really get to see them talk about his decision to work for that nazi paper. like, what. okay, fred quits at the end, good for him, but does this qualify as a character arc now?

- speaking of lgbt+ rep, them blowing up the esther/edgar/walter polycule only to have walter go “well whattaya gonna do. i loved him ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” right as he croaks was the most ridiculous thing i’ve seen in a long while and didn’t land at all. i actually cackled. i can’t believe they turned the complex dynamic they had introduced in s3 into this clichéd jealousy mess that had no nuance whatsoever. i’m stunned people preferred their storyline this season. it didn’t track at all. neither did edgar showing up again (as i had predicted) and gereon believing him about wanting to broker peace in the underworld. el oh el.

- also edgar being like “oh btw we need to kill doktor schmidt, he’s an evil mastermind” was an absolutely ridiculous and lame way to try and advance that storyline. it also just got dumped in there and you don’t get any sense that it’s influencing gereon or his character actions at all. not that he has much of an arc or anything this season anyway but back when the show was still good (and by good i mean exceptional), his drug addiction and guilt complex was a major driving force behind much of what he did, how he behaved at work etc. here, in s4, you have to be grateful that they belatedly remember to send him to confession because he’s a catholic but that scene also just unceremoniously gets dumped in there. not to compare but since we have already seen an absolutely outstanding confession scene this tv season (in interview with the vampire, fabulously acted by jacob anderson), i couldn’t help but notice how the confession with gereon was neither written well, nor particularly acted well, nor integrated in its episode well, nor, in fact, scored well.

- max raabe’s ein tag wie gold is a bop but other than that, this season was not scored well and i say that as someone who owns the first two soundtrack releases on vinyl. there were many times when i noticed that something was off, where the music actively worked against the scene it was supposed to be enhancing. the song at the shabbat dinner was nice but as a jewish friend who i watched it with pointed out, them playing piano on shabbat is very sus, even if they’re a reform household. there was a woman with a wig which indicates (ultra) orthodox. not going to nitpick that scene any further though because the shabbat dinner and abe goldstein’s character in general were a highlight (although i loathed the storyline he was stuck in).

- tell me you don’t want to write actors out of the show without telling me. nyssen and helga have long overstayed their welcome. nyssen they could justify by having him pop up from time to time in connection to the rocket science “plot”. but he’s lars eidinger (who’s great), so. helga has just become whatever they needed her to be. anne marie’s actress had some extremely dodgy acting going on this season, sorry to say. i don’t even want to talk about the idiocy of how they wrote this storyline which could have been extremely good and important. i’ll just say that i laughed my ass off when anne marie clocked abe with her flute but generally it was not a good choice to play these kidnappings for laughs (and i guess these rich people just have no security whatsoever, even after the first kidnapping). there’s a time and a place and this storyline wasn’t it. but rich people, funny, or something. well, they are ridiculous.

- the whole story with the butler. talk about wasting screentime. his götz von berlichingen monologue was also really bad although i was delighted when i heard the verses. it just didn’t land. that goes for many scenes this season imo. i don’t know if it was the directing or what but even stuff that looks interesting on paper just does not come across well. it just comes across as ridiculous and manieriert. but not in the good way. (there is a way to do this well and the show used to walk that line very well. not anymore, it seems.)

- (side note: the frivolity of the movie industry provided the perfect pastiche for that sort of thing in s3. which is why i really vibe with it, as someone who’s a huge fan of 1930s movies. didn’t even mind that they relocated the apex of expressionism into the late 1920s when that’s very ahistorical. but anyway that’s a different topic.)

- actually as a last point on the nyssen storyline, abe goldstein shooting a hole in the ship instead of shooting anne marie in the head made me groan. it was so obviously written that way just to give her a chance to pop up later again. it made absolutely no sense, even if you try to handwave it as an attempt at poetic justice. neither did helga leaving her down there make any sense. she had no way of knowing that abe would kill her or make it seem like he killed her. at that point, helga still looked like she could think straight, she didn’t tumble around deliriously, she made a clear choice. and they just did it for the twist, not because it made sense for the character in that moment.

- the show was always very drunk on coincidences, twists of fate etc in that 19th century charles dickens / victor hugo way and i could dig that for the most part because they had this rich tapestry of social commentary going on. while i can still appreciate the breadth of society that they’re trying to show, it now comes across as shallow, there’s no immersion, i was extremely distanced from everything going on and couldn’t have cared less, which is a damn shame considering that this is where we should start feeling even more involved.

- as for one storyline that i couldn’t have cared less about: everything to do with toni. in fact, i think it would have been far more poignant if we hadn’t seen her for a season and hadn’t known what had become of her after running away and then when we least expect it, charlotte comes across her living on the streets, maybe while chasing a suspect or something. now that’s a coincidence i could buy. and such a scene would play like a gut punch. but they rob themselves of any dramatic impact by wanting to overexplain and overshow and being all pedagogical which is a huge problem in the writing of german tv shows and s4 of babylon berlin has started showing all the hallmarks of mediocre german tv and it makes me feel sick, considering how stylish and epic the previous seasons were.

- toni’s actress is not good. i’m sorry. i just have to say it. but also, they stuck her in a nothing storyline. moritz’ actor fares better but if they wanted to pair off the spares and get rid of them, they needed to do that in a way that would’ve left more screentime for the interesting and/or relevant stuff. like, uhm, everything to do with malu/litten/charlotte etc. it’s a damn crime that they didn’t do anything with lotte being fired from the police and then hired by litten. nothing. she gets to mope around at the bar a little bit and poor jacky gets to be her hapless sounding board (he deserves better, so many characters and actors in this cast deserve better). and then she gets to be gereon’s emotional support system. once again, charlotte is deprived of any and all agency and no, the double-wielding scene does not make up for it. the scenes in that haus sonneborn institution were well-shot, the horror film genre influence was clear, but unfortunately i don’t much care for horror films and i also, at that point, did not much care for toni or her friend or the pathologist (f*ck him for getting rudi killed in a very lame rip-off of stephan’s much superior exit) and we all knew lotte wasn’t going to die. that’s what i mean by immersiveness: where in previous seasons i’d have been on the edge of my seat with tension and dread, this didn’t elicit much emotion from me at all. except for the groan when lotte did her thing at the end there. the only good thing to come out of that was her conversation with gereon about her guilt which was the only time in the entire season where i believed a scene between them, emotionally, and was invested.

- i guess that, on the bright side, she got to be happy. i support that. even though i don’t believe it should have to come at the expense of the show being good. and she still had to go through that awful ordeal of the dance marathon. (one of the few memorable scenes of the season, at the very least.)

- random but i very much liked the actor playing oskar. and he was very much underutilized. really, don’t get me started on the entire debacle that was malu’s storyline. i think i’d rather have watched an entire season set on that zeppelin than what we ended up with.

- litten not even being in the finale should actually be considered a crime against humanity considering he’s literally the best character on the show at this point. for that matter, the trial against katelbach and the undermining of the legal system and the press should have been a much bigger arc and point. katelbach still being a comic relief character only used to bumble about not knowing whether he did propose to behnke or not is absolutely ridiculous. these are the characters we’ve come to know and care about and they were paid absolute dirt in s4. behnke’s best scene was the train heist and even that was not edited or scored well but hey, at least it was amusing and they did something with some sort of flair there.

- going back to lotte for a moment. i’m happy for the charlotte/gereon shippers that they got so much fucking out of them this season (to be crude, then again so is the show) but i can’t be the only one who thought they were awkward as all hell together. i never shipped them but i did always like their dynamic and i thought their kiss in s3 was magical. what they did with them here did absolutely nothing for me, i cringed when she visited him at the station and their idea of sexy talk in between kisses was discussing case-related work. none of it had the levity, flirtation or charm you’d see in a lubitsch film (one of the alleged inspos for this season) although liv lisa fries sold the hell out of her infatuated smiles and looks. volker bruch trying to smile was physically painful to me, however. sure, it could be charming that he’s an awkward turtle duck but considering everything we know about the bts issues, it really didn’t endear me any further. i dread having to watch them be awkward together in future seasons and i absolutely dread lotte’s only purpose being tied up in that. for that matter, how did she earn her badge back at the end? surely not with her double-wielding gun action? but it’s not like the show really cared to pursue this as a storyline or her as a character this season, so why should i care.

- the way they threw rukeli in there at the very end of the season was almost offensively bad. i was extremely excited for him to show up ever since they had insinuated that he’s her half-brother in s3. the actor here was fine (i wouldn’t count on him being accurately or sensitively cast bc german productions usually don’t do this, haven’t checked it, however) but you’re really going to do a whole season where boxing is at the very least on the periphery and you’re only going to throw him in at the end to make some sort of point? we didn’t even get to stay with him and lotte during their first meeting? we’re just supposed to believe they have some sort of relationship now after that camera shot panned out, showing them through the window of the café? i’m sorry but what?

- worst of all: them having him use chalk as white paint to mock the nazis in the audience to make a point. you can’t make a character we’ve barely even met the dramatic and emotional high point of the season. and i’m sorry but rukeli was a real person and in real life he was forced to present himself with bleached hair and white paint in an “aryanized” form, this was part of the abuse he suffered!!! it makes me absolutely mad to think about how they tried to turn this into some kind of empowerment thing here. nevermind that at this point in time, audiences were still overwhelmingly on his side and actually protested against fights being rigged against him. i just absolutely hate everything this scene chooses to be. i also hate how gereon walks up to that one guy who can command~ the crowd and we get a flashback to something that happened in the same episode, like, just 30 minutes earlier, to remind us that this is the guy he refused to shoot so they can defuse the situation in the dumbest most construed way possible. i feel like i’m losing my mind when i see people say that this is good writing. good writing would have involved audiences not needing a flashback to something that happened in the same episode, just because almost nothing in this season is giving anything resembling the appropriate weight and focus.

- speaking of which, the case of the season was so uninteresting and lame i even forgot to talk about it. and i still don’t have anything to say. except one thing: why did weintraub not immediately suspect that something was up with max (the henchman) when that car bomb went up killing the other henchman? because weintraub arrived in the car, went inside, came back outside and suddenly a bomb has been attached to his car in the meantime and max was standing there all the time? like, what?? this season is littered with this dumb shit and maybe it was prevalent in the other seasons as well and i just chose to overlook it because there was so much for me to love but i genuinely can’t believe five adults wrote this season and struggled so much with thinking any of it through. it feels like they just had little chess figures with pictures of the characters attached to them and tried moving them across a board.

- oh and one more thing about the flashback issue. böhm and his family being in that apartment at the very end was an absolutely ridiculous scene. his money issues were well-telegraphed, a little too well-telegraphed if you ask me, and his involvement in the shoot-up was already extremely obvious by the time his wife demands to know where he’s got his money from. that bit where he collapses against the wall and we get all these flashbacks to things an audience that’s half-way intelligent and half-way paying attention has already gotten long ago was just embarrassing for the show. the issue wasn’t just with the flashback, however, it was also with the way it was shot and edited. so many scenes this season really don’t land as intended. i feel bad for the actors because they’re doing their best and they’re also not at fault for this weird issue in german shows where they do really bad ADR (re-dubbing scenes when there were sound issues in the footage from set, it makes dialogue sound very unnatural and strange and the show always had this issue in certain scenes but in this season it’s amplified to the max, i almost couldn’t watch the edgar/gereon reunion because of the bad sound engineering). but woof that böhm family scene could have been a highlight but the way he creepily said something to the effect of them never being separated (probably telegraphing an eventual fate that we call “erweiterter suizid” in german where usually a man kills his family and then himself) and then the show just straight up cutting to the nyssen last will scene without giving any of it the time to sink in was absolutely comical. i’m sorry. but there are scenes this season that feel amateur and i don’t think you can blame it on covid when the editing is at issue.

- having said all of that, i was excited for gereon’s arc this season and imo they never did anything of note with him undercover in the SA. why not have him befriend stennes for real, become conflicted about what he’s trying to do (and, well, in fact him and the police president do want stennes to succeed so it wouldn’t even have been that outlandish). him talking to the police president about the mission at home while his very much indoctrinated nephew is in listening distance was so so dumb omg.

- the stennes putsch which i also was very much looking forward to was such a flop that fizzled out without any real spark. his confrontation with wendt was lame af. the actor is awesome, his interactions with wendt in s3 were intriguing and this what it all leads up to? gdi. i can’t believe they wasted so much time on that homophobic blackmail material plot when it was never even picked up again after it got stennes out of prison. he never should have gone to prison before the putsch, he already had his conflict with wendt from last season, they could have saved so much time on this and dedicated it to something actually interesting. and if you actually want to get into the messiness of homophobia and homosexuality in the SA, röhm and all, you better be prepared to bring on figures like magnus hirschfeld (it’s honestly ridiculous he hasn’t even been referenced on the show yet because he was super famous in berlin and germany in general and also a favorite target of the nazis). reference the harden-eulenburg affair. do something with this. not just have wendt buggering a kid in a park. i like that gräf was quietly pissed at gereon about the whole thing but this should never have been a storyline in the way it was implemented.

- it really ruined wendt on top of things. not that it made him worse as a person because he was already bad before (though lbr it did make him worse ofc) but it made him a whole lot more uninteresting as a villain (he only seemed to find his groove back in the last two episodes). the interesting part of his dynamic with malu in s3 was the intellectual clash of ideologies. while i did not and do not ship them, i was very intrigued to see where they would take that in s4. well, i have my answer. they skipped any and all interesting and relevant development and turned it into an extremely clichéd and lame honey trap plot because we all know communists loved honey traps. groan. (yes, i watched the americans.) also, rilke is my favourite poet and has been for many many years and wendt needs to keep his words out of his damn mouth. i can’t believe they revealed that wendt used to sexually abuse underaged boys and still wanted us to think that his relationship with malu is in any way romantic, cute or intriguing?

- i was so rooting for doktor völcker to get him and then malu just had to take a bullet for him. bruh. just when i thought i couldn’t hate this season more. i know i already mentioned it but still. at least she didn’t die from it, small blessings, but her getting shot straight through the chest and then being back to spy shenanigans on the zeppelin not much later was just the height of ridiculousness. i always hated the train confrontation between gereon and bruno and it seems that the show is very very determined to evermore move towards that pulpy comic book-y version of the show that i can barely tolerate in order to get to the good stuff. but when there’s barely any good stuff to get to, it gets tough.

- do i even want to talk about edgar? him taking the kids away from esther was lame. anything to do with esther was lame. i can’t even muster more to say and edgar/gereon was one of my absolute favourite dynamics in s1/2 so i should’ve been overjoyed to see it make a return here. but, in the eternal words of the matrix: not like this.

- finally, doktor schmidt, eh? well. where to begin. first of all, jens harzer is one of the best living german actors, he’s phenomenal, and the fact that he still gets so little development is a fucking joke, frankly speaking. i might have liked his scene with alfred lying on the floor best. at least it was funny. his sessions with gereon were hamfisted in their analogies. his last scene with gereon also didn’t land, it was just groan-worthy. gereon repeating back his words just made it all the more obvious how much of their luster they have lost at this point. i can’t believe someone spoke schmidt’s platitudes in a serious way like some sort of cool mic drop when the “quelle der angst” stuff only works in that hypnotic evil drugged out therapy session way jens harzer says it. the cgi was also bad but that’s neither here nor there (there was a surprising number of badly lit and framed scenes in this season, idk if they changed cinematographers but even the staple shot of following a centered gereon with his hat around became extremely overused). the thing is that i’ve long been convinced that doktor schmidt isn’t actually anno / gereon’s brother, so i should be happy that he seems to be finally be revealed as a svengali type which i also find very fitting for the movies and culture the show references as well as the history it tries to reflect (in fact, this season was as thematically rich as ever, with many metaphors and analogies for the rise of evil etc etc but what good is that if it’s all pedagogical and the actual character writing is either non-existent or utter bullshit?). they’ve dragged this out for too long now. they also, and this might be the worst offense, have completely lost the connection gereon is supposed to have to this plot. nevermind helga or moritz. have doktor schmidt be a svengali figure, fine, love that, i vibe with it, but that doesn’t mean this plot should have no advancement. it really feels like they treaded water for as long as they could because they only had a very vague idea of where they wanted to go with this and still needed to figure out the details. well, hire some fucking writers (and by that i don’t mean hire your wife, like one of the director/writers did for s4).

- i’ve really come to loathe this very german tradition of producers, directors and others thinking they can write scripts themselves and that there are barely any decent writers around who are just that, writers. we have some that are barely okay but the structural issues of underpayment etc ensure that the talent that exists can’t turn this into a job. instead you really just have nepotism and all those people who think they can write but where the wheels eventually come off. now i’ve loved babylon berlin for a very long time, i’ve been there since the beginning, i’ve actually been there since the first press announcement (the show spent a lot of time in production hell before s1/2 saw the light of day, the budget kept ballooning etc). and i will say that i think the first three seasons featured some of the best that german tv has to offer. (s3 slightly less so but it was still entertaining and i think they did a really good job introducing a number of great characters like malu and litten in it, plus sabin tambrea is always fun!) but i must now question whether i was not more so taken in by the direction, the music, the style, and some very expertly shot and executed scenes that the show either cannot or does not want to afford anymore. the type of scenes that are needed to let the wild and often nonsensical plotting breathe and give the characters a chance to shine, to give all of it depth and resonance. i’m really so profoundly sad by the direction this show’s quality has taken and i have no idea whether it’s because one of the directors did more this season than the others, whether it was because of the new writers (i hope not). whatever happened, they had enough prep time and this just ain’t it.

- last point: i know how annoying it is when a show that you love gets hated on by others, so this is the last thing i’ll say about that. but i really needed to get this off my chest because i’ve been loving the show for a very long time, i’ve been investing a lot of time (not so much in recent years but before that) into spreading the word, at least here on tumblr and irl where i got several people into the show who all disliked s4 as well btw, i loved making gifs (which is also why i’d say i have a very good eye for the cinematography and style of the show and all the finer details but gif-making isn’t a real credential ofc lol). and i’m usually quite chill about stuff, i’m neither a super stan even when i love something (which is also why i didn’t watch it first thing it came out) nor am i a hater when i don’t like something but a case like this, where i genuinely loved something and it turns sour, that hurts, man. i’ll probably watch the next season - if there’s a next season! - because i still hold out hope that it might be better, i think it’s an important history to tell and the show had everything set up in order to tell it. there are two gif sets i want to make of this season (which is also always a good gauge for me to tell how i feel about something, and even those sets aren’t sets i absolutely want to do but i’ll do them nonetheless at some point; probably). after that i don’t think i will use this blog much anymore but i’ll keep it online for as long as tumblr is online because i always find it annoying when other people delete their stuff.

Beautiful environments and engaging story!! Kept me at the edge of my seat! I loved the sister character (the protag’s sister not the dead one 💀). Such an interesting concept!!

The horror lay in the relationship between the mother and her two daughters- her desire to be adored pulled to an extreme by her selfishness

3. The Bully

Horrifying example of different abuses and its victims. How the woman fell back on old habits that she never truly regretted or grew out of. Poor Nao who remained blind to his abuser and his poor son who will suffer a terrible fate. All because the woman couldn’t move on from her childhood

4. Whispering Woman

Predictable but I honestly loved the character of the whispering woman and her story. She was so eerie but beautiful. I really wanna say she had a genuine desire to help the girl at least at some point, but it also feels somewhat manipulative

5. Long Hair in the Attic

I wanted her to better herself to badly :(((

I love the protagonist and her sister pls make them happy :(

6. The Story of the Mysterious Tunnel

A little dull at times but the concept is so terrifying and the horror was so well drawn!! I loved the protag and the little sister

7. Tomie’s Photos

Beautiful and horrifying at once!! The storyline was engaging and personally I loved the protagonist. Surprised me how chill she was after witnessing the brutality that Tomie’s henchmen did tho💀💀💀💀 like “oh well better clean up ig”

8. Headless Statues

Gave me the same vibes as Tomie’s Photos in the sense of the setting but it was a fun episode! Was rooting for the protag the whole way and the statues are so interesting

9. Intruder

The opening was never really explained but the concept is really interesting and I loved the characters!!! Kinda like the Scooby gang!!

10. The Strange Hikizuri Siblings

the way they mended the councilor table thing with gold is beautiful btw. it's an old japanese art (kintsugi) originally done with pots, and it's to celebrate history, even the bad parts (cracks). it's nice for the context of the city of progress (celebrating progress and hardships, rather than only the victories), especially because of mel's "paint everything in gold" vision she mentioned when she was younger

Hello! Do you know what the next event after Blizzardous Threads of Red is gonna be? And is there a way to find out the order of future events? Thank you in advance :D

hullo anon!!! i am not completely Sure what the next event after Blizzardous Threads of Red but my guess is that after BTR we'll get some card reruns and minigame events, and then the next card event will be the Butterfly Kisses MR Card Event for Valentine's Day season

i say guess because currently the only way to predict upcoming events for the global server is by checking what happened on the cn server at around the same time frame, last year. doing this has its caveats though, because it's been noted that the global server is kinda 'speeding up' in a sense, so it's not really a 1 to 1 "what happened in cn server january 2022 is gonna happen in global server january 2022" because sometimes some events come way earlier

for example,

Romantic Rail Getaway Part 1 happened in march 2021 for cn server, but global server got it in november 2021

Secrets of the Tomb happened in sept 2021 for cn server, but global server got it in april 2022

Dreams of Childhood happened in March 2022 for cn server, but global server got in october 2022

and most recently Artem's Blossom Personal Chapter 1 happened in feb 2022, but we got it in dec 2022

(note: there are way more events that we got earlier than expected, these were just the ones off the top of my head

all that being said though, there are some events that are "time-locked" and cant be sped up because they are required to happen at a specific date, so theyre easier to predict since they Need to happen at that time. this includes LI birthday events, anniversary events, new year events (since tot likes to have a Big event to commemorate chinese new year/lunar new year), and special days like valentine's or christmas or halloween and the such.

here’s a great excel sheet made by dailythemis on twitter that shows the calendar of past events in both the cn server and the global server. this is what i use to kinda make my own predictions, just switch through the sheet tabs and start shooting ur shot with guesses taking into account all the variables kjhvkJHVK.

but heres a summary of whats upcoming

after BTR (and btw theres gonna be a limited top-up Marius card for this event too, this was already announced in by tot eng in their event calendar for BTR, so watch out for that), some card reruns will probably happen

Butterfly Kisses MR Card Event in february for valentine's day

Vyn's Blossom Chapter 1 probably after that (actually now that i think about it, they could also put this right after BTR too if they dont wanna do reruns or a minigame)

Thoughts on the costuming of Bad Buddy (a thread*)

Episode 8 (1/3): InkPa

There's so much I want to write about this week that I've had to break it down into three different posts: one for Ink and Pa; one for Pat and Pran; and one about the Friends. But here's Ink and Pa...

Soon after episode 8 aired, I threw out a post about InkPa being endgame but I want to go into it a bit more now. After episode 7, I wrote a comparison of their clothes/colours with Wai as a way to try to discard the PaWai baiting we seemed to be getting...but they ended up being quite even (although there were other things which leaned more towards InkPa over PaWai). Anyway, back to episode 8, and it feels like we're well and truly in InkPa territory. No Wai in sight. At least for them.

When Ink and Pa meet, Ink is in her signature burnt orange (more on this below) and a creamy/yellow shirt, and Pa is in lime green.

I predicted in my yellow colour theory post two weeks ago that I thought that Ink's colour would be orange...and now I'll refine that to burnt orange... Not only was Ink's first appearance in a burnt orange plaid shirt, but in the all important pancake 'date' in episode 5 (below), she and Pa are in tops with burnt orange and dark blue. I think the latter colour here is symbolic of Pat (and the uncertainty about whether Pat and Ink would be a thing - which of course we knew they wouldn't be).

Now, I also feel confident enough to say that I think Pa's colour is lime green.

Come with me on a tangent for a bit... So in episode 7 we got the slightest, smallest, blink-and-you'd-miss-it moment of a handhold between Pat and Pran which we had hoped would be a Big Moment™ in their relationship. We felt robbed, no? Well, in that scene I wondered about the significance of Pran's lime green top:

Now, I think it was just used as a kind of introduction of the colour and a little 'foreshadowing' of the actual handhold that we got in episode 8. Or if not foreshadowing but certainly this is a nice little connection. I mean, look at the pale orange of Pat's t-shirt and the bus stop. The lime green of Pa and of Pran. The white of Pran and the framing of the hallway/Safe and Mo. And they're both carrying the same bags. I mean, parallels, no?!

Anyway, back to Ink and Pa, and the hotpot 'date' sealed it for me. Just look a the beautiful coordination of colours. Ink's burnt orange top echoed in the drinks and the other guy's shirt. The yellow echoed by the food on the table...as well as Pa's lime green. And then that huge swathe of soft mint green behind them. Even Ink's phone is a mixture of their colours.

I can't leave this subject without also including the 'double date' in the preview for episode 9. Again, we have a wonderful balance of colours: The pink, lime green, and yellow of Pran, Ink, and Pa echoed in all the food on the table...and there's also some orange (Pat's t-shirt has mint green, pink, and blue on the front). Ink is in Pa's colour...and to 'match', Pa is in a yellow top very similar to the top Ink wore in episode 4 during the photo shoot (when it was used as a potential connection between Ink and Pat). (Btw, Pran - in pink - is sat in the same place as Pa when she also wore pink for the first time in episode 5). (PaRaLlelS 🤪)

Ink and Pa are also sat on Pa's side of the room, with a backdrop of yellow and green hues...but of course Pa's bedsheets also have Pat and Pran's colours...and the all important mint green. And the purple table is a mix of red and blue...and the curtain on Pat's side, the wardrobe, and opposite wall are all the same colour as the 'friend/unfriend' t-shirt (which is so important to them)... Seriously, have I mentioned how much I adore this attention to detail. My brain is melting.
