I just need to let this out
The new film, Transformers One, from what I've seen of spoilers taken straight from the theaters and what I've read up on Wikipedia, is a good show. It's got plot threads and characterizations taken across practically every medium of the franchise, and even utilizes the Transformers: Prime theme music twice in the film. It's honestly, all things considered, the best TF film since Age of Extinction in 2014.
But....The only one whose acting I actually enjoy is Brian Tyree Henry, the guy playing a young Megatron.
And that's great; he's a fan, and his love for the Transformers comes through crystal clear in his performance. I fully admit he doesn't tonally sound like Frank Welker's Megatron, but he sounds like Megatron: his vocal range hits every emotional beat you'd expect/are familiar with Megatron having in the various cartoons and comics, and he practically swallowed the source material and became Megatron, all while making use of verbal tics Frank Welker has employed for the character and making it his own while still being Megatron in his own right without stepping on what Frank Welker has done with Megatron.
And I love that. Heck, I 100% expected him to walk away from this production with all the awards, and he'd have earned them all in my eyes.
But....listening to Chris Hemsworth as Orion/Optimus....there's, there's a kind of lacking and restraint there.
Don't get me wrong, he's admitted to going to Peter Cullen himself for advice/guidance in playing Orion/Optimus and to make sure he doesn't goof up his portrayal of the character. But, there's not nearly as much range in his emotions as there is with Brian Tyree Henry. Maybe he's leaning into Orion/Optimus being the more controlled of the two, maybe he's leaning into the immaturity too much, or maybe he just feels like a bull in a china shop with all the pressure on him.
But...he could've done more. He could've - could've tried harder to be emotionally present, like Brian.
And I just - I just can't feel anything from his performance, save one line - and even then, that one line is, essentially, Orion's last words before dying and being reborn as Optimus Prime. I will give him this, he made me believe Orion was seconds away from death.
But everything else....there's not quite as much effort in it, most likely for fear of losing a balance between honoring Mr. Cullen's work and staying in his own lane. And when he speaks, it's....not that impactful.
There's not...how do I explain this....He just, he just doesn't have a vocal presence. He doesn't stand on his own in this movie; if anything, he sounds like a walking anomaly and just hearing him talk makes my suspension of disbelief for the movie shatter.
Scarlett Johanssen, I'm just gonna be blunt: she was a mistake to cast as Elita One.
Elita is one of my favorite females in Transformers of all time, and Johanssen - every time she speaks in this movie, my brain just registers the moody, teenage porcupine she voiced in Sing and Sing 2. She doesn't fit as Elita. There's too much youth in her voice (says something that she has the voice of a teenager), too much strictness/harshness, and not enough warmth and feminine strength in her voice like there was in G1. That's the whole point of Elita: she's the feminine counterpart that complements Optimus' masculinity.
And they took it from her. They took it, from me.
Yes, Elita doesn't have as much memory/love held to her as Optimus does, and I understand that people are gonna mischaracterize her. But that doesn't make it okay; it doesn't make it okay that she's modernized while having attempts at making her nice/still partially given feminine qualities to - this version of her.
And I hate how she fights in this movie. She moves like Black Widow - all slip 'n slide, using confusion and up-close-tactics with kick/leg-grappling-thing techniques.
Elita, in the original, from what we saw, was both a distance fighter (read: she shot a space gun), and capable of close quarters combat that was both feminine and practical. Heck, she was even more bad-aft than the movie portrays her: she literally caught a missile in her debut and threw it back at the Decepticons.
Why is a fighting style like THAT so hard to emulate?
Bumblebee, I don't care. His appeal has become lost on me for almost two, maybe years now. But dear Lord in Heaven, he is so annoying in TF One. No joke, Megatron would be in the rights for ripping his voice box out in this continuity.
That said....the guy doing him, somehow, manages to convey the seemingly eternal sugar rush this version is on. And he gets a small nod of approval from me for being physically active behind the mic in order to sell his performance.
(Despite that, something about the actor rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's that both he and Bee never shut up, I don't know. I do know that I never wanna be in the same room as him.)
Shockwave....is too emotive, but it gets a pass from me because so far as I can see, all his emoting in this film is a direct result from hearing Bee yap non-stop, including in an unconscious state. That's passable for me. A tic, yes, but passable.
Soundwave still sounds monotonous, but the ones in charge get an 'X' in my eyes for not getting Frank Welker back for the character.
Starscream is done interestingly, and although I don't yet know how to rank Steve Buscemi's delivery of the character's lines, I'll let Buscemi slide because he's had experience in voice acting - little bits, but the experience counts. I'll also let him slide because he returned to volunteer firefighter duty when 9/11 happened, and he stayed there all three days of search and rescue. So, while I can't rate his performance fully, he has my respect and I will not take on his portrayal negatively because of that.
Sentinel....I'll give the VA this, he pulls off the airy, self-aggrandising theatrics well. Beyond that, to be decided.
Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion....I'm not sold. His voice is too deep, and while I have many issues with George Takei, he did, indeed, nail Alpha Trion's performance post G1. Takei's experience, plus his voice, allows him to sell Trion as an old, yet still physically capable, former Prime whose wisdom is sound and collected from eons of experience.
All I get from Fishburne's portrayal is "old but still tough", and that's not enough for this character, in my book.
That's...more or less it. I'm just, really tired of consistently getting new Transformers media that has potential, but without Peter Cullen and Frank Welker even being approached for the projects. Yes, there's a possibility that they both tell/told these people to pound sand, but they've said repeatedly that they're getting pushed aside by the higher ups. And they've been so vocal about wanting to play the characters, but are constantly being given the boot by Hasbro.
They deserve better than that. The fans deserve better than that, and even I deserve better than that.
Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are the reason I and so many others had such golden childhoods. It's painful to see them getting disrespected like this, and I hate that more new TF media is being made without them, especially since they aren't getting any younger.
I'm not scared, exactly, about them dying.
I'm just scared they won't be able to have any more rodeos in Transformers media together before their time comes.
And that is why, ultimately, I can't bring myself to enjoy or watch Transformers: One. Why I don't care that it's failing like this.
Because Hasbro had their chance many times, and they've failed me. They keep failing me, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, and all of us.
I'm just done caring for new shows from Transformers unless it's got our childhood heroes voicing our favorite characters with the good writing they had up until Transformers: Robots in Disguise 2015. And given this commercial blowout, I won't be getting satisfied anytime soon.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I hope you don't mind the release of my pain, but I've held it in for a month, more or less. I just needed to make it public.

I have a somewhat important question (idk if you’ve answered it yet)!! how how do you think cod characters are? It’s a real question bc people fight sm over it :/
i don't actually think that cod characters are into hard kinks, slapping, ect... although i post concepts and ideas with that theme, it's not accurate to my portrayal of their sex life. i view majority of them as vanilla, and all my posts about them and rough kinks/sex is just a concept and a fantasy.
HOW I VIEW THE COD CHARACTERS SEX LIFE - my personal opinion.
characters: price, ghost, gaz, soap, könig, horangi, alejandro and rudy. ↑ not my photos above.
PRICE is straight up vanilla, nothing wrong with that at all!!! missionary and grunts through laboured breathing. praise every now and then to encourage you that it's alright, very sweet and smells of vanilla and cedarwood.
...
GHOST isn't as slow as price, i think. i think he'd have faster thrusts and actually pretty silent. will praise and encourage you though, to keep you confident. a firm grip. definitely not into any hard kinks, nothing that'll hurt you as he believes sex should be pleasurable and not painful.
...
GAZ and doggy still sticks with me. i do also still think he prefers anal, he's just an ass man. slow thrusts, deep and desperate though. kisses you and gives you hickeys and love bites. groans and moans through pants.
...
SOAP is probably the fastest out of the 141. i feel like he'd experiment but wouldn't push you, nor himself to do something that you, or he doesn't like. frantic and hard thrusts as he teases you playfully, unable to keep it serious. kisses you all over afterwards though.
...
KÖNIG is fastest out of kortac. he seems like he'd say, ‘i'll make it fit.’ and fuck you ruthlessly to get you familiar with the feeling. 100% will not force you and always looks out for any warning of discomfort throughout it, immediately stopping and sitting down beside you to talk about it and how to improve. definitely more needy after deployment, but overall seems like he prefers faster sex. (not rougher sex)
...
HORANGI seems like he'd also experiment as he doesn't seem as old as price or ghost (i'm not sure of his age.) nothing too kinky, but spices it up here and there. humilation? praising? i honestly don't know, but i do think he'd be similar to gaz, and also könig. maybe a mixture between the both as i don't have a lot to say about it, other than he'd be teasing and rougher after deployment.
...
ALEJANDRO has a medium pace. similar to price in that he's pretty vanilla, but a rougher side of him coming out when he's especially needy. i'd say faster than price, more vanilla than soap, he seems like he'd praise you, kissing and marking your neck and gets you all hot and bothered. probably plays with your pussy while fucking you, and a lot of curses in spanish as he cums.
...
RUDY is similar to gaz and price, a mixture. vanilla but always down to experiment, as long as it doesn't break any boundaries, or if it seems like something he's not willing to do. makes love instead of fucking, kisses you all over and tells you that you're doing well for him. maybe a little of alejandro as well, a slightly rougher side of his usual sex life coming out, never after deployment though as all he wants to do is love you.
...
a/n: the reason i'm posting this is because i've seen a lot of people complaining about the cod community and the things they post, specifically about people who post dark content. i'm gonna say this once, and only once; if you don't like something, don't look at it. don't read, watch, anything, it's clearly not your thing and there's no reason to send hate to other people for liking certain things. no one's saying this is how characters act, it could be something they're into. maybe they like ghost and a gun kink, does that automatically mean ghost has a gun kink? of course not, its a concept, a fictional character, an idea.
this is my own blog, and i'm not going to let someone dictate what i post because it makes them uncomfortable. i am not responsible for what you read, you chose to read it, which is controlled by you.
TLDR: stop sending creators hate because of a concept, it's not their portrayal, it's a concept. don't read stuff you don't like, that's you're responsibility.

My X-Men Fancast
Since we're definitely getting a new cast for the MCU's X-Men, here are some of my ideas. I'm not 100% happy with all of them and would love to hear others' ideas.
Magneto - Mandy Patinkin 71
He's actually jewish and age and skill wise he fits Magneto perfectly in my opinion.
Charles Xavier - Brian Cranston 68
I'm not entirely sold on him but only/mainly because I fear people will only see Walter White (his Breaking Bad character) when he plays a bald character.
For the rest of the X-Men and other important Mutants I wanted some lesser known actors who are also a bit younger depending on when the movies take place (OG5 / First Class or later)
Emma Frost - Brianne Howey 35
She was great as a smart and cunning (and a bit manipulative) character in Ginny and Georgia but also perfectly portrayed a caring and protective side motivating her actions, which fits Emma both in her villainous beginnings and later her time as a teacher / mentor towards young Mutants. The way she acts her character Georgia's traumatic background / backstory and the responses and coping mechanisms to it would also fit Emma's childhood / teenage years (Emma Frost 2003-05).
Scott Summers - Brenton Thwaites 35
While I didn't like his portrayal of DC's "Nightwing" in "Titans" (2018) my issue was with the writing rather than the acting. I think, with the right writing, he could fit Scott/Cyclops perfectly.
Rogue / Anna-Marie - Keke Palmer 31
While I'm definitely not the first with the idea, I'd absolutely love her as Rogue. She has the skill and even the actress herself likes the idea, even cosplaying/acting the character in a self-made video
Sadly I don't have anyone as Jean, Gambit, Kurt or Beast as of yet, so ideas are welcome.
Lastly:
Logan / Wolverine - Karl Urban 52
While older than some of the other X-Men this would actually fit his character and Karl Urban definitely has the skill to follow Hugh Jackman's popular version of Logan. My main issues are his height (1.80m, instead of Wolverine's ~1.60m) and there would be an age-gap between his Logan and Scott and Jean. Obviously he has already played Skurge but the MCU has already recasted actors from small to bigger roles.

Emily Wilde series fan cast
Alright, I have no idea how many of you have actually read these books but I discovered them a few weeks ago and devoured them. Absolutely charming and, dare I say, enchanting characters and a great story.
I don’t always have super detailed pictures in my head of what all the characters look like, but for these books I actually had an incredibly strong mental picture for most of the characters, Emily in particular, so here is my fancast for Emily, Wendell, and Ariadne.
1. Emily:
Off the bat I had a very clear image of Emily, and that image is Elizabeth Dulau!
Specifically, I saw Emily a lot in Elizabeth’s portrayal of Klaya in Andor:
2. Wendell
It was a lot harder to settle on one concrete look for Wendell, and I’m still not 100% sure this is the best fit, but the actor closest to my mental picture that I’ve been able to find is Toby Regbo:
I mean look at him, dude already has some experience in a crown, as well as looking generally well dressed and dramatically put out:
3. Ariadne
Finally, I was surprised by how quickly I developed a picture of Ariadne in my head, and that mental picture looks very much like Amandla Stenberg!
Like LOOK AT HER she’s perfect
Anyway that is all. To whatever small fandom for this series exists on tumblr: let me know what you think!

Do you prefer the Musical versions of the characters or the movie versions?
Oh boy-I have controversial takes
Ponyboy
For Ponyboy? I prefer his movie version if we’re talking about them looking like their respective ages but I do use Brody’s Ponyboy a lot more because in most of my content Ponyboy is aged up (because I like to make headcanons and comics for post book) so I do like Brody’s version of Pony as a more aged up version, say 17-18. I do prefer his hair in the musical since it fits the “brown almost red hair” thing better So both? Like I like movie Ponyboy because he looks 14 but Brody’s Ponyboy is just so lovable. I can see Pony looking like that aged up tbh. Also C Tommy Howell’s constant RBF in the movie goes hard 😭
Sodapop
It’s touch to say honestly. I like them both? I enjoy Jason’s portrayal of Soda and I don’t recall much of Rob Lowe. The only thing I do wish is that they made his hair more blonde so it would stay more true to the book but that’s just me being nit picky in the end. I do prefer the outfit Rob wore, flannels just seem very Sodapip esque to me. The only thing I wish was different was the portrayal of Sofa in the musical since he seems to be too much of a womanizer honestly and while Soda is flirty I feel like there are other aspects of his personality they could’ve played up. That being did I do prefer Jason!
Darry
It honestly took me a while to warm up to Brent. Patrick Swayze is literally Darry. I prefer Brent’s voice more but Patrick just looks more Darry. That’s not to say I don’t like Brent as Darry-I love him as Darry! It just took me a little bit to warm up to him. I think I like him more as a prson though if that makes sense-Patrick looks the part more. Also I have some choice words about Darry’s portrayal in the musical; while he was more well rounded emotionally and didn’t feel like a robot, I can’t get over how mean they made him in the musical. Especially the line about Dallas “giving up” because he killed his elf. I get where he’s coming from but like…y’know?
Johnny
Movie Johnny has a special place in my heart. Younger me had the biggest and fattest crush on him I won’t even lie. He also just…looks more Johnny? Smaller and younger looking. Also just his voice sounded more Johnny than Sky-I do love Sky though! Live laugh love Sky, but I just prefer the way Ralph played Johnny. Sky’s voice is lovely though and I love how he portrays Johnny as more strong if that makes sense? Like Johnny is still strong and resilient, he’s just quiet and more jumpy than normal. And I kinda like that the musical made somewhat of an emphasis on this.
Dallas
Musical 100%. I’ve kinda always liked the headcanon of Dally being black and the gang being interracial. And Josh just looks and sounds SO much like Dally. I like that they made him more well rounded too-they gave him a more sympathetic side and emphasized some of his better qualities and while he still is a little shit, he’s just…not just there to be a tough hoodlum y’know? I also really love his relationship with Johnny and Pony, the whole little brother thing definitely feels really good. I’ve seen people be mad that the gang isn’t all white but like…I think that’s stupid. I prefer musical Dally tbh
Two Bit
Also musical. Daryl Tofa my beloved <333 He reminds me of Leo Valdez from the Percy Jackson books and I love it. I love his outfit. I love his tattoos. I love his laid back energy and his relationship with Soda in the musical. I wish he had more stage time tho-like I wish they gave him his own little bit of time because I seriously loved Teo Bit being a POC. I can’t tell what his ethnicity is (Hawaiian? Caribbean? Can someone help me out 😭) but whatever he is I love two bit thing like that
Steve
Honestly I dunno-Steve is such a minor character in the book, movie and musical that it’s hard for me to say. I’m gonna say both because Tom Cruise is just so doofy in the movie and musical Steve is barely in it enough for me to make a judgement. I didn’t even know it was Steve when I first saw the show tbh, I just thought it was a character they added like Ace.
Cherry
Musical. She seemed a lot more…well rounded in a way? I like that they made her stronger and able to stand up for herself. I don’t remember much on the movie but I LOVE Cherry in the musical and I would so hang out with her-also Emma Pittman I love you Emma Pittman

I feel like i need to say more about Little Women so here goes.....
EXTREMELY BORING AND DISAPPOINTING BOOK. God knows how I finished this in SIX FUCKING MONTHS. I skipped so much stuff because it added literally nothing to the story. But I kept going because 'there must bs SOMETHING that makes this book so popular, right??' well NO.
Meg has no personality except being 'a good housewife'. I sort of liked Jo but then she goes and gives up writing for a random old man who likes her(?????) . Beth's death was boring and soooo unrealistic and I don't know why she was in the book itself. Amy was simply infuriating. 'I'll be an elegant woman and marry a rich man and please the society', what kind of message is that???? (And this is supposed to be an empowering book???)
And their Marmee, who is always preaching everyone left and right and tries to teach her girls a lesson...all of it is just so dull😭. They are extremely poor but they give their Christmas food to someone even poorer than them. There is no portrayal of exactly how much money they have because they always get on well and hold parties and go to picnics??? And yet they are poor?
The four girls don't seem to be like sisters at all. Amy (or was it beth, i don't remember?) BURNS Jo's book, she has a minor outrage, then Amy starts drowning so Jo FORGIVES HER FOR BURNING HER GODDAMN BOOK?? I mean yes ofc you don't want your sister to die but those two things are totally unrelated, how can you forgive her for destroying your hardwork just because she was about to die?
And NOW comes the most senseless part of the whole book- Amy and Laurie ending up together. Biggest WTF? moment in the book because i had been ROOTING FOR JO AND LAURIE the moment they became friends😭. They had so much chemistry and were definitely good for each other. I didn't really understand why she rejected him and later regretted it.
But how did he start loving AMY of all people??? She was mourning her sister's death and comes and hugs him and suddenly his feelings have changed? One moment he was sulking about being rejected by Jo, now he's falling for Amy and marrying her?
Then comes the even bigger plot twist, Jo marries the professor, who is 15 years older than her and who made her give up writing stories. I don't even have words for this.
All in all, it was a very difficult read. It was just a bunch of different stories packed together in 700 pages, of which I skipped about 100. It all just came down to the women always needing men and fitting with the stereotypes of the society and being incapable of doing anything on their own. Probably the worst book I ever read.
Also, this was my first 'classic' and I've been hugely disappointed. So I need GOOD classic recs, please help.

🧵, 🎬, 🧠, ✍️ and 💎
🧵 What's your favorite production and why?
my favorite favorite favorite will ALWAYS be the 1998 movie, mainly because it's the entire reason I found and fell in love with Cats. The portrayals are literally what I base every character on when writing, and most of my canon that i pull from is based off of the movie!
I also have to say the U.S. Tour 6 production, since that's the show I saw the most. I think I really love it so much because of the cast themselves. They were so involved with the fandom in the best way possible, and were some of the best versions of the characters I've ever seen. Zach's Tugger has become one of my top 3, and so many of Lauren and Devon's Demestrap moments are canon to me. The second cast for that leg also was insanely amazing, Hank's Tugger is just pure fun, Nora's Demeter is actually everything to me, and Tayler's Grizabella still gives me chills when I look back at the videos that I have. They're also the cast that gave me one of the best stage door experiences I've ever had, getting to chat with Michelle, Hank, and Taryn was literally as much fun as the show itself.
🎬 What's your favorite moment from the show? (can be from any production)
Cats U.S. Tour 6, seeing it in Syracuse, when Tugger and Mistoffelees did the fur shimmy before doing the head nuzzle at the end of Mistoffelee's song, a motion that only Demestrap and Platoria had done prior!!! Zach and Paul i owe you my life <3
Also, when I went to see the show back in 2020 (literally RIGHT before they had to close), it was when they were still going through the audience, and the amount of character interactions I had will live in my head rent free, it was so fun, and that was something i really missed with the other productions, though i understand why they pulled it out
also just... the entirety of the 1998 production
🧠 Share a headcanon/theory about the show that you like!
One of my personal hcs is that Platoria and Tuggoffelees are the absolute best of friends. Tugger and Plato are very much each other's platonic person, and Victoria and Mistoffelees are twins, so the four of them are just completely inseparable!
✍️ If you had total creative control over a production of Cats, what would you change and why?
i've talked about this a bit before, but I'd pull Rap Tugger from the london revival, and make a non-replica where all the cats represent different genres/eras of music and/or dance!! I think Rap Tugger is SUCH a cool character design, it just never fit in as a non-replica design within a replica production of cats, so I'd love to see it in a different setting!
💎 If Andrew Lloyd Webber coughed up a sequel to Cats (as he did Phantom) would you go see it?
absolutely 100%, as much as LND is the bane of my existence, if it had to do with Cats i would immediately go see it lmao

The Acolyte SPOILER THOUGHTS after the s1 finale
okay, now that the season is over, i guess i can try and sum up my thoughts on the show overall..
is it a perfect show? absolutely not. but what Star Wars is perfect? NONE OF IT. and i say that as someone who LOVES all the star war i've consumed so far.
wonky dialogue and delivery IS an essential part of sw at this point, starting with the originals and don't even try to argue with that. no point. but we love sw anyway, right? because of the overall story, the characters and the messages it tries to convey.
so yes, the acolyte does have some weird dialogue in parts, delivery is not always perfect, seems a little.. unnatural? might be the best word i can use for it.
there's also pacing issues, which can mostly be attributed to the UNBELIEVABLY SHORT episode runtimes.. most episodes were 30-35 minutes EXCUSE ME???? of course they can't fit in story, character moments and scenes that set up the world/environment they're in. omg that annoyed me so much. establishing shots have ALWAYS been a huge part of sw, showing the scenery, the sky, multiple suns or moons, showing space, the area in which our characters will appear, showing the animals and people of the planet, etc. that has always been important to make the galaxy feel real and lived-in, but this time, with the short runtimes, unfortunately it all feels like wasted time, that we could instead be spending with our characters and progressing the story. and i kinda hate that. don't get me wrong, i loved all the establishing shots but i couldn't help but feel like "damn, move along, i wanna see the story, we only have 10 more minutes left". and i think that's one of the biggest issues with the show. not the wonky lines or their deliveries, but how it feels like it didn't get enough time to shine, and some parts feel unnecessary, while others feel rushed. and i'm about 90% sure that this is NOT on the writers but the executives who only gave them 8x 35min episodes....
but i don't want to just focus on the """bad""", because the show IS GOOD!! firstly, all the actors are gorgeous, talented people, and imo gave the best performances they could given all the above as their circumstances, i wouldn't be surprised if some of the deliveries felt off because cuts were made. the actors all embodied their characters fully, they made you fall in love with them right away, and THAT is an accomplishment.
Lee Jung-Jae is a phenomenal actor, who stole my heart immediately as Sol, and i was 100% convinced he's like Qui-Gon, BOY WAS I WRONG. but he made me believe in him, and love him. all his lines carried so much weight, because he IS JUST THAT GOOD! he sold me on Sol with his first minute on screen and i didn't want to believe he could ever do anything wrong. I loved this character and Lee Jung-Jae's portrayal deserves awards imo.
Amandla Stenberg has been someone i've admired for years now, they are such a talent, so underrated and underutilized in film. they can evoke such emotion with just one look, it still blows me away. i really like both Mae and Osha, tho i wish they had more time together so we could have seen more of their dynamic, instead of just misunderstandings, fights and running away from each other - but i guess that's part of their dynamic too. Amandla did a great job with the emotional scenes AND the fights (tho i'm never sure when it's them or a stunt person), and i can't wait to see more of Mae and Osha's story. I am so happy Amandla is in SW.
Manny Jacinto is one of the most beautiful men on this planet, AND he's talented, and i am so happy people are finally realizing it! he pulls you in no matter what version of his character he's playing. he just makes you want to know more and spend more time with his character, and i find that incredible. The costume department also knew what they were doing cuz DAMN that outfit showing those arms and his physique. DAYUMMM. (i'm sorry) I don't think i've had such high interest in a dark side user since Maul, and that's saying something. i really hope to see more of Qimir in SW and Manny Jacinto in more films/big shows because HE IS SO GOOODDD. he deserves the recognition he's finally getting 100%!!!
some other things i loved about the show that are very spoilery:
more force witches because the nightsisters can't be the only ones!!
the returning idea of twins, possibly a force dyad.. love how twins are utilized throughout sw, kind of showing the duality of a person in a more physical way.
the use of "a certain point of view" was incredible in this show. i loved how they showed different perspectives of the same events, and how they emphasized that the jedi are not always the "good guys" if you're looking at it from the outside. i dont think this undermines anything about the jedi, only expands on the idea of the jedi imo.
a wookie jedi swinging a lightsaber -- we've only seen Gungi until now as far as i know, so having Kelnacca actually do stuff, (even if not exactly the way i wanted it to happen), was such an amazing experience. GIVE MORE WOOKIES LIGHTSABERS PLEASE!!
bleeding the kyber crystals. OMG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG and it was beautiful. they did such an amazing job with putting it on screen. what a time to be a sw fan.
lightsaber throwing!!!! OMG THAT'S MY MOVE IN ALL THE GAMES!!! no, but seriously, that's such a cool thing to see in a canon sw show, i don't think we've seen a lot of lightsaber throwing in sw outside of the games, and it was so fun to see on screen!
lightwhip?! hellooo??!! i really wanna see more of it, and i wanna learn how and why it exists and how it works (i guess i need to read the books, huh?)
a variety of saber designs for all the jedi to signify their personalities and styles, AND cool-ass lightsabers like Qimir's???? omg that was was a really good design, how he could pull it apart into a big and small saber.
possible plagueis cameo??? idk if its him but damn that was cool. would be a shame if we didn't get a s2....
yoda in high republic era???!!! i knew it would just be a cameo, and i knew it would be right at the end, but it was still nice to see his lil green head
i've had the whole day to process the episode and think this over, but overall, despite its issues i loved this show.
i think they had some really great ideas, amazing actors and costumes and sets, the only problem is, the show was not given enough time. and i don't know what the problem was - highly doubt the writers or showrunner wanted it this way but i could be wrong.
i think this story, this era in SW has a lot of potential, and if/when we get a season 2 i really hope the creatives are given more freedom and more time to delve into more aspects of the world and characters. this COULD BE one of the greatest Star Wars stories IF given enough care and time. idk if it will be. so far so good, in my opinion, but there's definitely room for improvement, and i just hope they will take all the actual valid criticism from the actual fans, and make this a SW story that will live on for generations.
anyway, I LOVE STAR WARS
i did not come here to fight or argue, so if you don't agree or don't like the show, good for you, just let others enjoy it and share their opinions.
be nice to each other please.
and watch more star wars.

My favorite shows and movies that i've watched in 2023
Barbie (2023)
Always been a sucker for great production and costume design. Feminism aside, it’s so fun and smart with all the references. I just don’t like the Ken hype. He’s fun, sure, but a lot of fans are missing the point or just proving the message of the story.
Bottoms (2023)
Need more lesbian chaos as a comedy fan. Sapphic softcore is ok of course, but you know, there should be a variety of WLW cinema. Perfect also for the Y2K nostalgia. ‘Bring It On’ fan here!
Nocebo (2022)
I actually watched it last year, but it was too late to be on my 2022 list. Underrated political-horror film. Underrated cast! It should’ve had the same hype with Parasite and Triangle of Sadness. For me, it was simple and well-written. The structure of the story was smart but easy to absorb.
About Us But Not About Us (2022)
The first and last single-location film that I watched was Kisaragi (2007) and I’ve been waiting for something like that since then. One of the most important things i look for a media is the script so i really enjoyed it especially when they switched characters. Very intriguing.
The Little Mermaid (2023)
Been waiting for this since 2019! I’ve been a fan of Halle Bailey since that announcement. I rarely watch things on the cinema, but it’s something i couldn’t miss. Beautiful, pure and magical. Perfect casting and amazing chemistry!
Si Chedeng At Si Apple (2017)
Another chaotic lesbian film, but make it Filipino! It was funny and bloooody just like Bottoms so if you liked it then you should try this one. Not a spoiler, but part of the plot: That lady in yellow killed her abusive husband.
Maria Clara At Ibarra (2022)
I haven’t finished it yet! But i would recommend it! Brought back my trust and love for Filipino series. If you are not Filipino, it’s a good way to learn our history. Fun, written with passion + great set and costume design.
Mga Lihim Ni Urduja (2023)
After Maria Clara at Ibarra, i became more interested in Filipino series especially with historical fiction. This one is so underrated and empowering! Has the prettiest and hottest cast tbh and a queer undertone *wink*
Betcin (2021)
I have to say that this is the best Filo GL/WLW so far. It has an actual interesting story and interesting characters. Both leads are toxic AF, but it was sooooo entertaining. Top tier chemistry. Top tier acting!
Swarm (2023)
As a Beyhive, i don’t really like how they chose us coz there are more crazy fandoms out there, but still watched and finished it because of Dominique Fishback. SHE IS AMAZING. She deserves awards for this portrayal alone.
Ang Babae Sa Septik Tank 3: The Real Untold Story of Josephine Bracken (2011)
Another mockumentary that is to die (of laughter) for! I’ve always wanted to finish the trilogy, but i started with this because of history. Frustratingly funny. I don’t know if i would root for her or not lmao
The ultimatum: Queer love (2023)
I admit, watching reality shows is my guilty pleasure so imagine my excitement when it’s full of queer women??? The dramaaaa lmao i need more seasons of just sapphics. It’s also a cool and chaotic concept tho. I thought it was just a normal dating show at first.
Physical 100 (2023)
This is my kind of reality show! I hope it will have multiple versions from different countries. The best thing about it is how fitness is really measured by getting competitors from different backgroundsand giving them different challenges.
Rookie (2023)
The most anticipated movie of the Filipino sapphics! And if you’re a volleyball fan? I’m sure this would be automatically on your list. It’s just so cute and wholesome.
Ladies First: A story of women in Hip Hop (2023)
Must watch! Not only for the history of the rap girlies, but to trace back the struggles they faced and are still facing. You might discover talented women to stan in your music or lyrical style too.

aoba johsai <3 lover
hi here’s some songs from taylor swift’s lover album that i think match each seijoh pairing :))
iwaoi <3 lover
i mean c’mon
it’s IWAOI ofc they get the title track
“and you’ll save all your dirtiest jokes for me / and at every table, i’ll save you a seat”
AHSJDJ it’s them !! they don’t even have to say anything, if there’s a chair open next to iwa/oiks, everyone automatically knows who it’s unofficially reserved for
“and i’m highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you”
^ i think this covers both oikawa’s natural jealousy as well as how iwaizumi’s watched time after time again as countless amounts of people crush on his tooru
just the term “lover” for them. i think it’s the word they’d use in the timeskip when describing their “secret relationship” during interviews, it reveals as little as possible about the “mystery person” while still properly communicating just how important they are :)
matsuhana <3 it’s nice to have a friend
makki and mattsun genuinely have no fucking clue how they got together, they just sorta slowly shifted from being friends and doing friend things to doing boyfriend things and being boyfriends
bc of this they just picked a random ass day as their anniversary and just rolled w it
matsuhana’s so interesting to me because they’re friends to lovers like iwaoi/kinkuni yet each of them is a different FLAVOR of friends to lovers that i can’t quite explain but i love em
“something gave you the nerve / to touch my hand”
THEY!! YES! doing all their coupley shit all the while saying “it’s nice to have a friend” even though they both realize it’s faded into something much more
“twenty questions, we tell the truth” idk they just seem like they’ve never lied to each other before bc they’ve never had any reason to hide what they’re feeling
kyouhaba <3 afterglow
*deep inhale* OKAY there’s a LOT !
it should be noted that literally so fucking many of the other songs fit them but i want something slightly kinda happy pls :’)
i really love this song and it’s portrayal of arguing w your loved one and then taking the time afterwards to apologize and take accountability
and there are so so many kyouhaba fics where they fight and then make amends (although i still think there should be even MORE)
i just love them having so many feelings and not enough ways to deal w them and the vulnerability when they own up to their mistakes and AAHHHHHHHH
“i don’t wanna do this to you / i don’t wanna lose this with you” and “hey, it’s all me, just don’t go”
(^ examples of them being VULNERABLE AND OPEN)
also “tell me that you’re still mine / tell me that we’ll be just fine / even when i lose my mind”
i am normal about them! (lie)
side note i like how when perusing the seijoh couples gallery you just see “childhood friends to lovers!”, “best friends to lovers!”, “pals to lovers!”, then you turn the corner and see the most aggressive, tension-fueled enemies(?) to lovers pairing you’ve ever seen for no goddamn rhyme or reason
kinkuni <3 paper rings
paper rings has a childlike whimsy that suits kindaichi & kunimi’s relationship perfectly
half of the lyrics seem like things kindaichi would say to kunimi w full earnesty too
“i’m with you even if it makes me blue” and “wrap your arms around me, baby boy” !!!
(kunimi calls it “corny”, kindaichi calls it “romantic”, both with dumbass, lovestruck smiles on their faces)
“i hate accidents except when we went from friends to this” is 100% kunimi though, he doesn’t like surprises and events that require him to exert extra effort, but for kindaichi? he’s more than okay with it
the whole song is just so sugary sweet and shamelessly adorable and at the end of the day that’s what kinkuni is! (at least behind closed doors, bc they get embarrassed sometimes)
and bc i can’t leave my boy out, it should be noted that watari shinji is a red man to his very CORE. you bet your ass on his twenty-second birthday he was blasting 22 like his life depends on it
#seijoh#aoba johsai#oikawa tooru#iwaizumi hajime#iwaoi#hanamaki takahiro#matsukawa issei#matsuhana#yahaba shigeru#kyoutani kentarou#kyouhaba#kindaichi yuutarou#kunimi akira#kinkuni#watari shinji#RAAAAHHHH !!!!

Writing Year Wrapped (2023)
Thank you for the tag, @eilinelsghost!
3 Favorite Fics You've Written This Year
Beloved, Forsaken, Redeemed, my short Celegorm cycle. I am very pleased with each of the little bites that make up the whole, for imagery, characterization, and narrative arc. You love him, you hate him, you pity him, and you root for him in the end, even having seen him at his worst.
The paired fics In This, No Consolation and What Will Console You, in which Maedhros and Maglor find parenting challenging, first at Formenos in Nerdanel's absence, and then in caring for Elrond and Elros. These hurt, but they also comfort.
Examined Lives, in which Erestor and Pengolodh fall in love after Sailing and have to negotiate their respective understandings of history and truth. It's a very odd ship, but it works. I am quite fond of my Loremasters in Love.
And yes, it's cheating to slide in a fourth, but I have to mention my 2023 Tolkien Drabbles series, in which I fell in love with fixed-length stories and the challenge of fitting a whole world into 100 words. So much fun!!
3 Fics That Stretched You the Most
Tender Morsels. This is the first thing I've shared with a rating above T, but if you're going to do it, you may as well do it in style, right? Written for Silm Smut Week, it features Fingon/Maedhros figuring themselves out via cannibalism and sexy mutilation and carries the tag Is it really monsterfucking if it's Maedhros? It's oddly romantic, for all that. Thanks to @polutrope for convincing me to share it.
When All Other Lights Go Out. 5,336 words!! Let me repeat: 5,336 words! I usually hover between 400 and 1,000, so this was a big stretch. Written for TRSB, to accompany @grundyscribbling's gorgeous Feanorian nightlight, it's an epic (for me) look at love through the generations, in all its varieties and with all its consequences.
By Love Annealed. I don't write very many OCs, and this piece was both largely OC-focused AND about some tricky stuff. But I ended up loving my new friend Sorokendë and her relationship with Celebrimbor, in this remix of ultramarine by @welcomingdisaster.
3 Favorite Lines You've Written (loosely interpreting "lines")
For heartbreak, Maedhros and Maglor in Feanorians in Seventeen Kisses.
Maedhros rests his chin on Maglor’s head, watching the ocean, shivering and burning all at once. He murmurs something incomprehensible – it might be I’m sorry – and sighs. The sea surges, hungrily. Maglor doesn’t turn when the heat at his back changes. If he holds very still, he can almost keep feeling the last brush of his brother’s lips on his hair.
For angst, Fingolfin and Maglor in True North.
The banners ripple in the chill breeze off the lake as they stand toe to toe, second son and second son, frowning. They are anchorless, both of them, flung into the spinning skies with no fixed points to reach for, no greater stars to burn behind.
And for romance, the Glorthelion wedding from In Answering, An Answer Find.
Glorfindel cries out the praise he could not muster in the welter of the healing tent. He hears the fierce, bright music of Ecthelion’s reply. The bond sparks as their palms touch. Then they are burning, singing with it, leaping forward together, diving into the light.
3 Characters You Enjoyed Writing (that surprised you)
Turgon. This was my Year of Being Kinder to Turgon, after last year's portrayal of him as a history-whitewashing, Pengolodh-abusing kinslayer (ouch!). But this year I wrote him lovingly with Fingolfin in From the Heights, Such Light and Air, tenderly with Aredhel in None Shall Mark Thy Going, loving and furious with Fingon in A Bond That Shines and Burns, and being consoled by Elenwe in Mandos in Reckoning. Turgon! Multidimensional! Who knew?
Curufin. He was also an unexpected delight to explore, whether having a hard time letting go of Feanor in Borne Away Like Smoke, or having a hard time coming back to life in A Sea Change. I became very fond of the possibilities of him, actually.
Legolas' Mother. She is my first substantive OC, and I have had SUCH fun building her out. I first wrote her in A Mighty Shot in the Darkness, which is partly her love story with Thranduil and partly the story of Legolas drawing on her teaching to kill the Fell Beast. And she popped up again in These Soft Threads That Bind Us, newly home from Dagorlad and adjusting to life with only one arm and a curious child. She has a guest appearance in one of my seasonal exchange fics, too, which will be up at the end of this month (and which explains why I haven't named her).
3 Unexpected Inspirations
The Canadian government's vivid, lyrical description of the varieties of sea ice, which I used as a framing device for Ice Glossary (12 views of the crossing of the Helcaraxe, each linked to a type of ice).
Lawrence Oates' quietly suicidal farewell to his colleagues on the Scott Antarctic expedition, which I used along with the prompt "desperate valor" to drive I May Be Some Time, in which Maedhros departs to parley with Morgoth.
The poignant last line of Vincent Van Gogh's final, unfinished letter to his brother Theo, which along with @z-h-i-e's gorgeous painting Feanor's Art Therapy inspired Half-Foundered, in which Feanor is therapy-resistant, and expressing his inner struggles through art does not help.
3 WIPs You're Excited About in the Upcoming Year
Untitled Anaire/Fingolfin, full of rage and regret and maybe eventually reconciliation. It's almost done; I'll drop it on some dark day as winter lingers for maximum hurt.
The Sifted Light: Evranin smuggles Elwing and the Silmaril out of Doriath. Tolkien women, yay!
The Blue Line Between Sky and Water: a three-chapter Voronwe piece which is giving me fits but will be out there eventually. Spoiler: he drowns, three times.
3 People Tagged to Share Theirs
Tagging with zero pressure: @melestasflight @cuarthol @tathrin

hello!! here is my old notes app ramble abt mopi’s ending from a few years ago!!
gus van sant revealed that there was a final scene that was cut from the movie. it wasn’t scott, picking mikey up off the highway. it was his brother.
van sant cut the ending for several reasons though.
firstly, he said the theme wasn’t going back to your blood family; it was making your own family. mikey’s family were assholes (paraphrased, but van sant’s words nonetheless). so it wouldn’t have made sense for mikey to go back to them.
secondly, gus van sant said it seemed too clean-cut and perfect for the movie’s vibes. it didn’t fit the movie or feel right for the plot lines that occurred.
thirdly, river phoenix had completely changed the vibe of the movie. originally, van sant had not portrayed mikey as being in love with scott. but river phoenix had acted that way, and he had rewritten the campfire scene completely to reflect mikey’s true character and feelings.
van sant had said himself that river had completely changed the tone of the movie, and it wouldn’t be the same without his portrayal of mikey. it breathed life into my own private idaho.
it could be argued that river is the one who determined the final ending, if you choose to ignore van sant’s original (which would be what van sant desired, as he said it needed to be cut. it wasn’t accurate to the story being told.). he had chose to experience a tragic love story. one with unbridled hope in his character. he had tried to find his mom. he believed he would find her, and she would welcome him into his life or provide closure in his abrupt absence of her.
and for my final note on the cinematic masterpiece, gus van sant had cheekily added on in his commentary in reference to the ultimately cut ending-
“who knows who's in that car? it could be the love of his life, who takes him to italy. i don’t know.”
AHHH HELLO!!!! TYSM FOR THIS!!!! i loved reading this and wanted to share it for everyone :)
i actually have been meaning to make a post abt the ways river phoenix completely changed mike's character.... he was originally supposed to be a whole lot edgier, of course given the nature of his whole character, but its so interesting how river played him with such grace and tenderness and u can feel his love for scott compared with like, the normal conceptions of a character like this? like river was originally supposed to play scott, but keanu accepted the role instead so river played the edgier role and idk where i'm going with this but yeah !
and also like changing the character to the point where he redefined the story to be a queer story??? like it 100% would not be remembered as the landmark film of new queer cinema without that. bro changed all of the themes and motifs
in any case yeah i really appreciated this ask !!!
#mopi#my own private idaho#again guys everyone is allowed to ramble in my asks forever abt this movie

𝐌𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐕𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦
Note: These are just my headcanons for Astarion's life Pre-Cazador and Pre-Vampirism. While obviously Astarion can't remember anything about his previous life (thanks to all the trauma Cazador gave him), I still think it's important to explore and something that will at the very least be vaguely reflected in my portrayal of him. WARNINGS for graphic and trigger warning things because...it's well...Astarion.
Going by the fact everything happening in Bg3 is taking place during the year of 1492 DR, and the fact Astarion mentions being trapped with Cazador for two centuries (and not to forget Astarion's grave reads he died at age 39), that means our spawn is at least 239 years old and was at least born sometime in 1229 DR (or close to it.) The Forgotten Realms Wiki for Astarion says he was turned by Cazador in 1268 DR.
Looking past his mask and going by his true personality (and just a tiny bit of his physical appearance), I think Astarion is not only a High Elf, but his subrace is a Moon Elf. The Moon Elves were known to be "the most impulsive of the elven races with a strong distaste for complacency or isolation. Moon elves longed to be on the road, traveling and exploring the untamed wilderness that lay between cities and nations. This extroverted quality was part of the reason why moon elves got along uncommonly well with other races. Moon elves, rather than feeling that interaction outside of their race diminished or weakened them, believed that interacting with other races, humans in particular, was the best way to spread the values of the Tel-quessir races, thereby strengthening their culture." And with the fact Astarion comes off as an ENTP to me...this fits perfectly.
Now as for his physical appearance, Moon Elves were known to have Black, blue, or silvery white hair color. As for the eyes, green or blue with golden flecks. Now, obviously he doesn't know what his original eye color was. I actually like how that's an option to ask him about in the game, but I think they were originally blue before they became red due to vampirism. (As for the way Moon Elves were known for wearing their hair, you can't tell me he didn't at least have a ponytail long ago.)
Astarion's parents were from Evereska, where he was also born. Eventually, because of Moon Elves not being one known to settle down for too long, his parents decided to go to Baldur's Gate.
Despite only being in his 30's (still considered a kid by elven years, who only considered you an adult at 100+), Astarion wanted to prove himself capable enough to be an adult anyway and after much persuasion, his father got him a job as a Magistrate.
He would sometimes make some unjust rulings, but one in particular was what set him in the sights to be attacked by an angry group of Gurs who didn't like it at the age of 39. They left him beaten and for dead until Cazador Szarr took his opportunity and "rescued" Astarion in the nick of time, bitting him and turning him into his spawn. However, in order to become a vampire spawn, you can't just get bitten by a true vampire, you have to be buried first too.
Astarion's parents were heartbroken and devastated from the death of their only child. In the game, Astarion mentions how he woke up in his coffin and had to punch a hole through it, and claw his way through six feet of dirt before being met by Cazador, who was waiting for him and how from that day on he was his. With this knowledge, I believe it was Astarion's parents who paid for his funeral services, which makes it even more sad. (I'M SORRYYYYY. I"M SOBBING TOO)
Because of this, his parents moved away from Baldur's Gate, not wanting to be reminded of the incident and moved to Evermeet before eventually passing away at the normal elven lifespan (350-750 years.)
And because of the fact that Astarion became undead at age 39, that means Astarion is his child elven name, not his adult elven name, which makes sense since Astarion means = Little Star.
#starwrittenfates headcanons ;;#// At first I was like “Great lets just get this out there. Imagine cute little Moon Elf Astarion”#// and then this ended with me sobbing my way through all of this cause I HAVE TO BE ANGSTY AND SO DOES ASTARION WHHYYYYY#ASTARION WHYYYYY#come cry with me I have tissues and chocolate#𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐘 ⟫ The Pale Elf (𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐎𝐍)

hello tumblr user lady-lazagna.
what are your current tsubasa thoughts?
i know you like to think about him so i'm putting him in your head
Hello tumblr user fullcaps-ethan.
It is true, I do like to have him in my head. I keep him in a little cage up there. Don't worry about it, he has a hamster wheel, a water bottle, and some grain to nibble on👍 While he's up there, I like to do a little Angsty Projection.
The main projection point came from the "outsider looking in" feeling. I had already had this portrayal of him in my mind for a while, but after Metal Fury and the Legendary Bladers debacle, it solidified.
Almost all of the bladers in Fury are hoping that they were chosen to have star fragments, unaware that this was mostly predetermined by ancestors. And when they're told about this, and how the remaining chosen blader has to fit into the specific category of Winter constellations, hope is lost for a lot of them- Tsubasa included.
The show doesn't dwell too much on this for him, since the "not feeling worthy" storyline is given to Masamune (for good reason, that storyline fucked💚❤), but I like to dive into how my main boy Tsoobs feels about this (because I need his perspective in every situation, because I am sick and unwell).
A fun little tidbit about Tsubasa's constellation, Aquila, is that it's mainly a Summer constellation (appears between June and October, and is a point in the Summer triangle). And who ends up being chosen as the legendary blader of Summer? His absolute favourite guy on the planet, Ryuga.
That has got to be salt in the wound of not being chosen; to have the guy who not only tried to destroy the world and hurt all your friends in the process, but hurt you specifically in a deeply personal and traumatising way, be chosen as some kind of hero destined to save the world from the ultimate evil. And he doesn't even do it! He fucks up Zeus's Barrier and then dies because he was too prideful to work with the team. How unbelievably insulting to every other blader on the planet who would've been 100 times more worthy.
Tsubasa spent the whole of Masters learning to rely on and work with his friends. He knows he never would've fucked up like Ryuga did because he doesn't have a problem working with the team. But instead, Ryuga got the power, wasted it, and traumatised yet another one of Tsubasa's friends in the only selfless act he'd ever committed. Dying was the only good thing he'd ever done, Tsubasa would think, spitefully.
But oh my god he absolutely Cannot say that in front of any of his friends; they all admired and respected him as a true blader, no matter what he'd done! So he must keep all these feelings to himself, or they'll all think he's a terrible person with no compassion. Just continue to say nothing, and you'll keep the peace. Besides, the legendary blader of Summer is someone who deserves it now, right? Why continue to be angry?
The legendary bladers are the saviours of the planet. Even though every other blader in the world contributed to taking down Nemesis, they were the ones that assembled and fought the villains all the way through. Everyone around them fades into the background. Tsubasa wishes he could fade like that too, and be able to do his own thing without having to stand beside people far superior to him every second of the day. But for some reason, Director Ryo just won't let him. He continues to drag him to the forefront of every issue alongside the legendary bladers, so he's always feeling like he's working with people who don't need him. What is being a trained spy to having the power of a star, anyway?
So there he stays, bitter and utterly inferior with a pointless existence. Maybe if he bothered to communicate any of his feelings to his non-legendary friends, he could get some support- or maybe he'd just make them feel worse as well. Who's to say?
#maybe a hug would fix him#sorry if you were looking for silly thoughts and were smacked with The Horrors#but you know what they say#mfb#metal fight beyblade#beyblade#beyblade metal fury#tsubasa otori#beyblade ryuga#headcanons

Building Jean Grey in DnD 5e
All images featured are credited to the user that edited and posted them, not me.
The idea of a Character Forge is shamelessly taken from @raeynbowboi, whose posts I love, and drew a ton of inspiration from.
Jean Grey has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters, ever since I saw her for the first time in the 2000 X-Men movie, portrayed by Famke Janssen. I hope I did her justice, haha.
I contemplated making her a Kalashtar for free telepathy, but Variant Human fits better, and with this build we end up getting telepathy from multiple sources anyway. I feel like something a lot of portrayals of Jean don't do is her original origin story.
At ten years old, her best friend died traumatically in front of her, and Jean's newly awakened powers gave her a front row seat to the emotions and thoughts of a dying girl. Professor Xavier then suppressed her telepathic abilities.
WTF??? That's a lot for anybody, let alone a ten year old.
So I think her background is 100% Haunted One.
"You are haunted by something so terrible that you dare not speak of it. You’ve tried to bury it and run away from it, to no avail. Whatever this thing is that haunts you can’t be slain with a sword or banished with a spell. It might come to you as a shadow on the wall, a bloodcurdling nightmare, a memory that refuses to die, or a demonic whisper in the dark. The burden has taken its toll, isolating you from most people and making you question your sanity. You must find a way to overcome it before it destroys you."
Unfortunately I think that's a great descriptor for Jean.
Through the Haunted One background, we're going to take Arcana and Religion proficiences, as well as two free languages. It really depends on the campaign which language would work best, but I took Dwarvish and Infernal.
Aberrant Mind Sorcerer
I immediately thought of Aberrant Mind Sorcerer for her base class. Sorcerer fits any mutant with spellcasting-like abilities, and Jean's main powers are her telepathy and telekinesis. Aberrant Mind sorcerers get telepathy at first level, but they don't have any inherent telekinesis baked in. As a Variant Human though we can pick a free feat, so we'll naturally go with Telekinetic.
This feat gives us access to the mage hand cantrip and a telekinetic shove ability that's perfect for Jean.
You could definitely go all 20 levels with Sorcerer, but I think it leaves out a very important part of Jean's character: the Phoenix Force. It was obvious to me the best way to represent the Phoenix Force was with the Warlock class.
Great Old One Warlock
I think it's also no question that the Great Old One patron is the best fit for the Phoenix Force. In its first appearance in 1976, its described as one of the oldest known cosmic entities in the universe. Its origin, capabilities, and motives are a mystery. Sure sounds like a "mysterious entity whose nature is utterly foreign to the fabric of reality" to me.
What level split you do is up to you, but I did 8 in Sorcerer and 12 in Warlock, just because Warlock gets more in the 9-12 levels than Sorcerer. Aberrant Mind Sorcerer's don't get any subclass features whatsoever between levels 6 and 14, whereas Great Old One Warlocks get Thought Shield at level 10.
Stats and Proficiences
Her highest stat should be Charisma, and from there it's really up to you. A high Constitution is always good and can represent that extra durability from the Phoenix Force. Her Dexterity should be kept in mind too, since she won't be wearing any armor. Technically she can wear light armor, but it isn't super necessary, since I took the eldritch invocation that gives unlimited mage armor.
Proficiencies: arcana, deception, insight, intimidation, perception, persuasion, religion, light armor, and simple weapons
Spellbook
You're obviously going to want as many psoinic style spells as possible for Jean. Her main source of damage is going to be her magic, since Jean is never really depicted using weapons. She's going to be relying mainly on her cantrips to do damage in this build, since I wanted to pick up as many "utility" spells as possible.
As an Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, she automatically learns several Psion Spells.
Mind Sliver (Cantrip) Arms of Hadar (1st) Dissonant Whispers (1st) Calm Emotions (2nd) Detect Thoughts (2nd) Hunger of Hadar (3rd) Sending (3rd) Evard’s Black Tentacles (4th) Summon Aberration (4th)
Through Warlock invocations, she can cast False Life, Jump, and Mage Armor on herself at will. She can also cast Confusion once per day via the Dreadful Word invocation.
Almost all of the invocations I chose were ones that give her more spells for less, since as a Sorcerer/Warlock she is more limited in spell slots than another spellcaster might be.
A few other spells that I would say are absolutely essential for Jean are Fly, Psychic Lance, Telekinesis, and Dream.
As her Mystic Arcanum, the Warlock feature that lets her have 1 use of a sixth level spell, I chose Investiture of Flame. It definitely feels like a Dark Phoenix moment to me.
See the rest of her statistics and spell list below the cut.

Feats
Telekinetic. (TCoE, pg. 81)
You learn to move things with your mind, granting you the following benefits:
Increase your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
You learn the mage hand cantrip. You can cast it without verbal or somatic components, and you can make the spectral hand invisible. If you already know this spell, its range increases by 30 feet when you cast it. Its spellcasting ability is the ability increased by this feat.
As a bonus action, you can try to telekinetically shove one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. When you do so, the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + the ability modifier of the score increased by this feat) or be moved 5 feet toward you or away from you. A creature can willingly fail this save.
War Caster. (PHB, pg. 170) Prerequisite: The ability to cast at least one spell
You have practiced casting spells in the midst of combat, learning techniques that grant you the following benefits:
You have advantage on Constitution saving throws that you make to maintain your concentration on a spell when you take damage.
You can perform the somatic components of spells even when you have weapons or a shield in one or both hands.
When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from you, you can use your reaction to cast a spell at the creature, rather than making an opportunity attack. The spell must have a casting time of 1 action and must target only that creature.
Metamagic Adept. (TCoE, pg. 80) Prerequisite: Spellcasting or Pact Magic feature
You’ve learned how to exert your will on your spells to alter how they function:
You learn two Metamagic options of your choice from the sorcerer class. You can use only one Metamagic option on a spell when you cast it, unless the option says otherwise. Whenever you reach a level that grants the Ability Score Improvement feature, you can replace one of these Metamagic options with another one from the sorcerer class.
You gain 2 sorcery points to spend on Metamagic (these points are added to any sorcery points you have from another source but can be used only on Metamagic). You regain all spent sorcery points when you finish a long rest.
In all my campaigns I've played we've allowed a free feat at level 1. I would chose War Caster or Survivor for Jean in that case.
Survivor.
You are well-versed in surviving in hostile environments, even thriving where others are sure to perish. You gain the following benefits:
Increase your Constitution or Wisdom score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
You require only half of the food and water normally required for a creature of your size.
You can withstand extreme temperatures indefinitely, and you automatically pass saving throws made against extreme heat and cold for a number of days equal to your Constitution or Wisdom modifier, whichever is lower. After this time, you must make saving throws as normal until you spend 24 hours in a comfortable temperature.
Level Choices:
Level 4: Ability Score Increase. +1 Charisma, +1 Wisdom
Level 8: War Caster Feat.
Level 12: Ability Score Increase. +1 Dexterity, +1 Charisma
Level 16: Ability Score Increase. +1 Charisma, +1 Constitution
Level 19: Metamagic Adept Feat.
Jean’s Spellbook
Cantrips: Dancing Lights, Eldritch Blast, Friends, Gust, Lightning Lure, Mage Hand, Mending, Message, Mind Sliver, Minor Illusion, Prestidigitation
