Suptober 1: Harvest

Hi, yes I do, I run art sideblogs for Mo Dao Zu Shi, Tian Guan Ci Fu, Scum Villain's Self Saving System, The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha), Daomu Biji, and Tian Ya Ke/Qiye/Word of Honor, all linked in PG's reblog. I also run a general one for smaller danmei and cnovel fandoms, @cnovelartreblogs.

They can be a fair amount of work, but they're really a delight to run. I get to roll around in huge piles of gorgeous artwork every single day, and give small new artists a big platform to get their work out there (I've been running the oldest for almost 3 years and the biggest has almost 2,500 followers).

There's also @theroadsofararchive for Supernatural, though it's on extended hiatus.

Your personal gallery doesn't have to be a huge project like these, though! I'm an archivist by nature so I try to archive All The Things but even if you just do it for something you like, you can really make a difference for creators. And, it's fun!!!

Gallery Jamboree 2023

so we all agree that art is no longer being circulated on tumblr the way it used to be, and that The Youths no longer know how to reblog shit because they’re from insta-tok or whatever, and that subject-specific tags are turning into a unusable slog because so much shit gets inappropriate hashtags. and that shit is getting pretty dire.

i’ve been thinking about it and i have a proposal:

WE NEED MORE GALLERY SPACES.

who benefits from galleries? artists benefit because their work is shown in a space that’s already attended by an expectant audience. the audience benefits because they can follow a space with the expectation of being served the curated content they want to see. and crucially, people who want to participate in creative work without having to make it themselves can become the curators who help connect artists with audiences.

i propose this summer, with school letting out and a lot of bored young people ready to particpate in fandoms and other hobbies, that we start a push to make more fanblogs with the explicit, understood purpose of serving the community more gallery spaces. artists will get more exposure and fans will get to see more art.

being a curator is a really fun and really valuable way to engage with your community, whether that’s the fans of a show, hobby, game, science, genre. it really can’t be overstated how cool it is to be one of the guys who find and reblog artists with limited reach and thus introduce them to a wider audience that will be happy to see something great.

THIS SUMMER, START A GALLERY SIDEBLOG AND SEE HOW IT GOES. TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO START GALLERIES. ADVERTISE IT IN THE TAGS. ADVERTISE YOUR FRIENDS. PUT OUT CALLS FOR WORK. RUN IT FOR A WEEK OR A SEASON OR TEN YEARS. FOLLOW OTHER GALLERIES. LET’S SEE IF WE CAN MAKE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL.

theroadsofararchive is the premier spn fanart archive with a fairly extensive tag system, so it’s def a good place to start. it’s mostly destiel and mostly sfw though. i’m also interested in the answer to this question so i’ll reblog for anybody who might have anything to share 👀 unfortunately the ban nuked so many blogs and on the wincest side a ton of artists have deleted all of their art, or their blogs entirely

almost wish i'd taken the plunge on SPN before the tumblr porn ban, back in the fucknasty days when surprise fanart of dean winchester getting railed by hellhounds was just one of the many risks of opening your dashboard whether you were in SPN fandom or not

one idea I imagined so many times..(I'm gonna quote @littlestarofthewest who described this piece so perfectly 😍) they have a movie night and after a while there's this one moment where everything falls into place. Dean puts his arm on the back of the couch, just because it's comfy and nothing else. But then Cas looks at him and Dean notices that he's not really just sitting beside him but pretty much snuggled up to him and why is his hand suddenly on Cas' shoulder? But now Cas is so close and he gets lost in his ocean blue eyes like always, but this time they're not on the street, they don't have to fight and no one's hunting them. No one's there who could disturb them and Cas' lips look so damn kissable again and son of a bitch, just do it Winchester!
