Rereading some old drabbles and I have realized I never wrote anything involving Aesatel with the civil war in Skyrim. So I'm gonna do that because a bitch has lots of feelings about that period of her story.

I read most of y'all's headcanons about the characters and the world of Dark Souls. I have to say, I loved them all so much! I loved how much effort you put into figuring out the cultures, the people and the relationships between countries! You made the world feel so real, and I really loved seeing it

I noticed in a lot of those headcanons you talked about the countries' prejudices and biases. A lot of those also apply to characters you two are writing, original and not. Like Laurentius, you said he was kicked out of his house as a kid for being gay, and people don't like that he's a pyromancer (it made me emotional and sad, not gonna lie, I wanna comfort him).

So I was wondering, do any of the characters have some sort of prejudice? Or suffered with hate, like Laurentius? I know this seems like such a mean question, but I like seeing how characters cope with the hardships in their lives, and if they get support from others.

Afadskfladjkfls--!! Thank you so much! While there are certain things from those old country headcanons that would be slightly retconned (such as Fina no longer having a larger influence in Carim) a majority of what we put down is still more-or-less the same! We never get to see the outside lands, and can only put together images of what we know from its people and objects' lore. It's so much fun to delve in and color everything in-between!

Laurentius is definitely a good example of that. What made him "undesirable" in a land of undesirable people? His overly soft and kind nature were probably part of it, but we do like to imagine it was something a little deeper and, sadly, people can be very cruel.

It's not a mean question at all! :D Can't have sweet without sour, and that definitely applies to writing. There are absolutely characters who have prejudices, both original and not. A few examples:

Honovi has a deep distrust for large orders (mainly knights) after watching people get banished to the Great Swamp and mistreated by outsiders. I wouldn't doubt a personal encounter or two would also set her off with their "higher-than-thou" attitudes. This definitely puts a wedge between her and Jestin's initial relationship and this will be explored in the first arc.

Jestin suffers from prejudice due to his red eyes and hair. I've spoken about this before, but it's a headcanon based off of the lack of redheads in Dark Souls (those who have it being unnatural ex. Emerald Herald) as well as real stigma from the Middle Ages that these individuals were cursed.

The sorcerers will have bias against pyromancers, as pyromancy is seen as a primitive art. It's no secret that the Vinheim school is full of uppity snobs, so it's not hard to imagine. Griggs will have an initial caution around Laurentius, but is quickly won over by his kindness.

In our Carim and Astora headcanons, we noted that these two countries despise each other. This will be shown very often in Jestin and Lautrec's relationship. Despite openly mocking Astorans, this does not dissuade Solaire from having a friendly engagement with Lautrec, much to the latter's dismay.

These are just some that will be explored. But don't worry! There's gonna be plenty of good-feeling interactions as well! :D Mainly from the Catarinans, because they're friends to all.

who the heck is my muse anyway?

HOHO!!! For those who never touched The Legend of Zelda in their lives, I’m sure it’s pretty dang confusing to see more than one design of both Zelda and Link, I’ll try my best to explain this! The series follows a very, very convoluted timeline filled with plotholes, as such the Links and Zeldas we see throughout different titles of the game are actually reincarnations who are destined to seal away whatever darkness may threaten the lands known as Hyrule.

The Zelda I play as is the princess of Hyrule during a point in the timeline known as “Downfall Era” where the Hero of Time in OOT lost against Ganondorf in the final battle; Ocarina of Time is the reason for why there’s multiple timelines with each having their unique era depending on the choices in that game. The Downfall Era is known for having games known as A Link to The Past, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Time, Link’s Awakening, A Link Between Worlds, Triforce Heroes, The OG Legend of Zelda, Annnnd Adventure of Link! The Zelda I play as comes from A Link to The Past as well as the Oracle series and I guess Link’s Awakening despite having no appearance. The events of A Link to The Past and Oracle Series has deeply affected my Zellie in that she suffers from unspoken traumas as well depression. See, before the events of ALTTP there was a war known as the Imprisoning War, that war ended where the seven sages seal away Ganon. Peace reigned for a while until a series of plagues and droughts struck which affected the kingdom. It wasn’t until the antagonist of the game, a wizard by the name of Agahnim, would put an end to the misfortunate blighting Hyrule with his magic, gaining favor with the king. He was able to worm his way into court and from there act on his plans in breaking the seal to the sacred realm where the triforce and Ganon rest. Doing so, he must capture the seven maidens who are descendants of the seven sages and sacrifice them in order to break the seal and well, guess which princess happens to be one of those seven maidens? Suffice to say, he was successful in breaking the seal with Zelda being the final sacrifice. Here we find out that he’s actual the alter ego of Ganon (don’t question it too hard) and we also find out she’s not dead! Hooray! But she is trapped in a plane known as The Dark World, once the sacred realm corrupted by Ganon’s greed. So as all LOZ stories goes, Link saves the day. Happily ever after, right? Well... no, see unlike in the game where the ending is happy and everyone who died is alive I follow both the 90s comics and Himekawa manga where those who died in the games did not come back to life. This includes Zelda’s father, Link’s uncle and some of the maidens. It’s very bittersweet in that, the day is saved and Ganon is gone forever but at the cost of loved ones no longer coming back. 

Well... Ganon comes back! In the oracle series! Two years after ALTTP, Twinrova tries to resurrect him by using the blood and body of Princess Zelda, meaning she can actually die this time around. But Link saves the day once again. Which leads us today, the main verse of the blog which is a year after Oracles and three years after ALTTP! NOTE: That my smash verse more or less follows this timeline I have in place for this blog. 

things you should know

I sound like a broken record but. She’s a glass canon of sorts. Where she’s very powerful thanks to blood of the seven sages, the light force, and having hylia’s blood in her veins. As such, she’s very powerful and her magic super potent which is why so many people wanna sacrifice for dark rituals... BUT!! She has super power health issues that affects her magical stamina and body as such she can’t even use half her powerful magic and this upsets her greatly. It’s a small headcanon of mine because in the games and manga, she doesn’t really do much despite being a powerful magical princess. Keep in mind that ALTTP came out before the retcon that is Skyward Sword and before they decided to add more to Zelda’s abilities throughout the course of the series... so my brain went to: she’s powerful but can’t use magic too much due to poor health. It worked!! Before smash came along but I swear I’m not at all salty. To be fair, it was my fault for assuming things but imagine: glass canon Zelda. It sounded super cool at the time! 

She represses a lot if only for the sake of her nation and to appear as a good leader for her people. As such, she’s almost always calm and has a gentle smile on her face despite radio static sounds resounding in her thoughts. Give her time, she’ll open up and show you her playful side! 

She’s been surrounded by death considering before ALTTP, during ALTTP and kinda with Oracles if you count Twinrova, as well as having a connection with the spirit realm due to freaky PSI powers. So, she doesn’t really have a negative view on death and has actually gained that edgy romanticist view as the result of her life experiences. She’s very much someone who likes to live life to her fullest as the result... and well, it doesn’t help that she’s aware of her short life span thanks to her future vision. Something she won’t reveal to anyone more than likely as to not worry them. She’s more or less accepted her fate... speaking of which

She hates fate/destiny/etc but accepts whatever happens because again clairvoyance has proven that there’s no changing what’s been planned. So, she doesn’t bother fighting against it. But, what impresses her are those who manage to overcome destiny, something that Link does sometimes which is why she looks up to him. He’s that variable that the future can’t keep track of due to how ever changing he is. 

 She loves exploring creepy places, ruins, caves, and dungeons that are scattered throughout her kingdom, for both history and the spooky aesthetics of it! So if you see her outside the castle she’s more than likely getting ready to explore some spooky place. She’s almost always wearing her cloak but there are rare moments where she’s not either ;v; she’ll always go by the name Elle... worth mention she doesn’t bother hiding the mark of the triforce on her right hand.

Speaking of which, only people from the capital known as Castle Town and even some from Kakariko village as well know of the princess’ appearance. Various small towns throughout the land of Hyrule however, only remember her appearance from ALTTP where her hair was a more golden blonde rather than the platinum color that it’s taken from the various fear and stresses from her life. And also, she’s more freckly due to not wearing coverup when outside the castle. Ok well,,,,, here’s the best side by side comparison I have...

If you ask her what the light arrows are, she’ll look at you funny. She comes from a time where silver arrows are a thing :’) the few things that can defeat Ganon

Closet romantic, as in she loves love and wishes for a romance of her own but when it comes to her own feelings she’s an idiot due to repressing feelings.

what she’s been up to:

main verse: Which is during the events of Skyward Sword, as such she’s no longer in Skyloft nor does she have the full knowledge that she’s Hylia but Zelda is suspecting that there’s a connection there. She does not know how to wield her magic as it comes and goes in spurts. She’s seen throughout the Surface so she can be anywhere! Even in other timelines due to using the Gate of Time, we can just say that something screwed up causing for her to end up in another time period or even verse! LOZ series is pretty flexible in time travel.

where to find her:

Graveyard + Sanctuary: It’s a soothing place to visit and also to pay respects to the fallen in ALTTP. 

One of the three provinces (my rendition of Hyrule is a little bigger than the in game map so don’t be afraid to add places that aren’t in ALTTP but in other titles, I know I tend to do): aka anywhere in the fields, she’s a woman plagued with wanderlust and doesn’t like being confined to one place

Kakariko: the villagers who know her true identity are hella nice to pretend that it’s not the princess but Elle! Guards tend to be here after a certain time though, so to avoid them she always avoids going to the village when it’s nearly sundown

Ruins, catacombs, abandon shrines etc: again she likes creepy or historical places or both! 

Haunted Grove: Well... it’s haunted! So :’)

Castle: it’s possible to meet her here too! Whether as princess or someone sneaking either out of the castle or back into it.

PEOPLE WHO KNOW THAT SHE’S FROM A BLOODLINE OF A GODDESS AND SAGES DHSJAKJADB no one really knows that the royal family actually did descend from gods, unless your muse is an immortal and is aware of the events that goes on they shouldn’t know this fact. The only thing the public is aware of is how the royal family have mystical powers different from the population.

SO BIG POST Y’ALL.

My Rockman X Anniversary Collection Soundtrack made it in today! Many thanks to my beloved husband Zeekun for getting this for me while I finished my shift up at work. (It was registered air-mail, so I had to send someone to sign for it for me!) Ok, so right into it- there is SO much going on here and I may have to make double-posts to fit it all in.

So since I ordered the ‘First Press’ I got a special sleeve that had that AMAZING ARTWORK of the four hunters all doing their little gig (I still swear that image of X on the special sleeve alone was worth the 40 dollars I paid to get this thing. I love seeing him happy, damnit.) Inside the sleeve is the CD in it’s standard packaging.

The tambourine wielding Met is still present too! Considering I once cosplayed as a giant Met at a few Otakons, and when I was in WAS we had a ‘pet’ Metool we named ‘Tooley’, it’s kinda like my past was coming back to greet me. Can I be considered the Met? I will gladly shake a little tambourine around if I get to jam with X. C’mon now.

So there’s no way they didn’t know some of us were going to import the CD. Why would you include the forward from singer/writer of the English version of Re;Future IN ENGLISH if you didn’t expect non-Japanese people to import it?! THE FACT THAT SHE’S AN X FANGIRL MAKES ME GIDDY AS SHIT.

The art in the booklet is basically CD-sized versions of the art for MMXLC 1 and 2 and then some of the Mavericks behind the CD... The CD itself though... Hoooo nelly..

Ok, easily, this is the most gawddamned beautiful CD I now own. It’s got metallic blue circuitry accents and X in full without that text over him and-- NNNNHhhhggg... I can’t. This was so worth it. And the crazy thing was, when I first found out about the CD and saw the original image of them all playing and performing, I was like “God, fuggin’ a. What if they did a Miku/Squid-Sisters like concert and literally had hologram versions of them play at a real venue?” For whatever reason, I could imagine X staring at the crowd with his guitar with a happy, slightly cocky grin-- and then later when I got into that MM Media Creators discord and found THIS IMAGE it was literally what I saw in my head just days before and admittedly I LOST MY SHIT. This happens to me wayyyy too frequently but that is another time. @_@;; Anyhow-- what I was hoping for- aside X being.. well, X, and making wolfens nosebleed everywhere-- were the english lyrics for Re;Future.

SO AGAIN IN TYPICAL CAPCOM FASHION- They had their Localization director write/translate Re;Future from Japanese to English and then later sing it as well. From what I understand, they also had some issues with recording and it lost some audio quality, some of which they had t manually restore- but from what I understand, Miss Hsu is not a native English speaker so there’s some mispronunciations here and there. Zero and I were trying to get lyrics down for DAYS but we kept mis-guessing what was being said- so since my CD was in the states on Sunday night, we decided to wait till we had official lyrics. SO glad we did, cause I think our ‘hints’ at X9 lie in this song and it’s lyrics.

At first, with the ‘blasting through anything’, especially given you have to use X to blast through the credits to get this song to unlock and play, I was like “OK, THIS IS X SINGING. Well not literally BUT IT’S HIS PERSPECTIVE.” This has happened before, RockmanHolic’s Re:Loaded was sung from X’s perspective even though it was a girl singing. So there’s that.

Then as I was listening, I was mis-hearing lyrics, I was thinking she was saying ‘purple crystal’ and ‘purple heart’ which made me think of Iris- especially if you play X Challenge mode volume 1 and get to the final fight- I was like “OMFG, what if we’re getting Iris back for X9?!” That may still happen based on X Challenge mode, but still. Everything else just coincided with X so strongly, so I was still torn. Plus, the achievement you get for unlocking Re;Future is called “Identity Erased”... And given we have new Giga Armor toys where X has a Rush of his own and in MvCI he slides just like Classic’s Rock does, Iiii.. I’m starting to wonder if we’re looking at the starts of a Retcon and they’re going to confirm X and Rock are one and the same. I’ve got other stuff that points at that, I’m working on a video explaining it all, so when I’m done I’ll explain more. Anyhow...

I figure if anyone wants a crack, here’s the Japanese lyrics. I can’t read a lick of ‘em (legit, only things I can read in Japanese are “Rockman”, “X”, and “Zero”. That. Is. It.) so if like, Sky or anybody else who has knowledge wants to see if they match up to the English lyrics, be my guest! My friend Alkaid of over-ti.me already has these, so I’m sure she’s probably gonna be getting her buddies in to take a crack at these sometime soon. K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?

HAHAwelp…um.  I’d say it’s LTE just because it used to be even worse than its current version.  Much, much worse.  As in, Luke died in the original first edition, and then a later revision had me blasphemously retcon Anakin into having actually killed Padmé and Luke had to grapple with retaining his forgiveness for a father who murdered his mother.  Eventually I decided both of these routes were taking things way beyond dark.

L: What’s the weirdest AU you’ve ever come up with?

I swear, when my 12-year-old self discovered Teh Internet and surfed the baby version of TheForce.Net, there was once this trippy timeline of then “canon” events that included the idea that at some far distant point in the GFFA’s future a space probe/ship a la Outbound Flight was sent out of the known galaxy and into interstellar space carrying a holocron of the entire galactic history, and after drifting through the void for ages it eventually made it to the Milky Way and, um…crash-landed somewhere near George Lucas’ hometown and he found the holocron and Star Wars was born.  :p

Really.

So you know at some point I couldn’t help entertaining the notion of writing the most shameless, self-indulgent Mary Sue self-insert fic that involved Earth and the SW characters colliding over this, with yours truly naturally putting all of her EU knowledge to good use spewing snarky meta all over the place in an attempt to “fix” the future (but still past lol) of the GFFA.  (And including some really uncomfortable cameos of Lucas himself and all the actors being confronted with their “fictional” counterparts.)

Z: Major character death–do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?

Yeeeeeeeeeeah…it’s definitely something I largely avoid and peek through my fingers at, but I have read it before and I’m willing to do so when it’s well-written, of course.  The fact that it’s an AU ultimately makes it bearable.

And yes, I did officially once write and post a deathfic that’s no longer on AO3, called “A Path of Embers.”  It was very short and extremely depressing.  And I did have one other idea once that I’d written material for and have now lost my drafts that ended with a MCD, but it was a peaceful and bittersweet ending that wasn’t meant to be dark, and the other characters in the story had a long time to prepare themselves for it.

Hi there, Reylos.  Long-time lurker in the Reylo tag who wanted to say some stuff.  Two things I wanna discuss: 1. The current whereabouts of Ben Solo and 2. Why Rey is alone again and what this means for the future of Star Wars.

Full disclosure: I haven’t seen TROS yet.  At this point, I don’t want to see it, because the scenes I care about have already been posted online. :)  But that said, IF I GET ANYTHING FACTUALLY WRONG HERE PLEASE DO LET ME KNOW.  I want to be accurate and you would be doing me a favor.

So without further delay:

1. The current whereabouts of Ben Solo

A lot of people are complaining that Ben’s ghost isn’t with Luke and Leia’s force ghosts at the end of the movie.  During the run-up to TROS, JJ in particular seemed to really distance himself from inferring anything particularly romantic about Reylo.  At the time, it seemed like he just didn’t want to spoil their beautiful love story.  He said that Rey and Ben were “enemies to intimates,” not lovers.  And that they were two sides of the same coin.  Two halves of the protagonist.  That their relationship was much more complex than we thought.  At the time, we thought he meant that they were soulmates.

And in a sense, I guess they are now.  But it’s not romantic anymore, at least not in the way we were expecting.  Ben gave Rey what remained of his life force. He isn’t alive in the form of Ben Solo any longer, but he’s also not dead.  Ben lives on within Rey; he’s part of her soul now.  Which is why his force ghost didn’t show up alongside Luke and Leia’s.  It’s also why she chose to take the name Skywalker.  Because while she may be a Palpatine by birth, Ben also made her a Skywalker through his sacrifice.  That is really beautiful.

Even beyond that, can you see how lovely it is, how much they are truly each other’s yin and yang?  Ben was born into the ultimate Jedi family but chose/was manipulated to choose the dark side.  Rey was born into the ultimate Sith family but chose the light side.  And now the two of them are one whole protagonist in Rey.

2. Why Rey is alone again and what this means for the future of Star Wars.

This is a more cynical analysis of what Disney intended to do with the sequel trilogy and is not meta.

So another common issue with the ending of TROS is that Rey is alone again, that she lost her soulmate.  But as I covered in #1, she’s not alone, not really.  If you don’t accept that explanation, then yes, this is a totally unsatisfactory ending for Rey’s character.  All she wanted was a family and now she’s a member of TWO completely dead families that she never really knew.   And in the case of Grampy Sheev, she really wouldn’t have wanted to know that family.

The thing is, this is only the beginning for Rey.

The reason Disney needed her alone is because the whole sequel trilogy was a soft reboot in addition to being a send-off of the Skywalkers.  I saw this discussed after TFA was released and then the controversy of TLJ seemed to push the soft reboot topic off the table and it was subsequently forgotten.  Or people only mentioned TFA as a soft reboot and the other movies weren’t a continuation of that.  But they totally are.  The whole trilogy is a soft reboot.

Recently, DLF announced a new Star Wars movie would come out in 2022.  And that’s when I realized what had happened.  The sequel trilogy was there to both clear the slate of George Lucas’s creations and to introduce new protagonists who would go off on new, Skywalker-less adventures.  And what could be a safer, risk-adverse way for Disney than to introduce them into a movie with the old, beloved characters?  That’s what a soft reboot IS!  

Whether a Rey/Finn/Poe movie is the one coming out in 2022, I really don’t know. But my guess is that it’s going to be right on the heels of the 2022 one if it’s not that movie.

Rey being alone and FinnRose being averted were necessary measures taken to ensure that these characters are free and clear for whatever DLF intends.  Nothing regarding the new characters is really tied down and settled at the end of TROS, is it?

That said, Reylo may have gotten a kiss but who knows what ships might sail in future movies?  Maybe Reylo will ride again, maybe not.  Given how much Adam Driver’s career seems to be ascending, I don’t think he’s coming back to Star Wars any time soon.  If he were open to it, I’m certain his “death” could be retconned pretty easily.  It’s a fantasy, damn it.  Who knew Palpatine could survive the conclusion of ROTJ?

Anyway, if you read to the end of this, thank you.  I had a mighty need to write what I did and throw it out into the void.   I am tormented by Star Wars and I want to be free.  D: And, thank you, Reylos, for being so excellent and producing so much wonderful content for us to all enjoy. :)
