i'd love to get better at writing comedies. there are writers out there who seemingly with little effort can be funny just by how well they use language to comedic effect, while still keeping everything in-character. admire that and haven't quite figured out how to do it yet.

Joshua's fingers were warm around your own cold ones as he passed you your cup of hot chocolate. He'd known you so, so long now, and still he never seemed surprised that your hands were always a bit cold: you constantly forgot to wear gloves in colder weather, and other times you just seemed to bundle up in other ways when you were chilly. His hands lingered there a bit longer, though, just to make sure the porcelain wasn't about to slip. The look on your face said it all: you needed your best friend right now.

"I added a little bit of cinnamon into it," he settled into the spot next to you, watching the numb way you traced one of your thumbs against the smooth, shiny blue porcelain. This was your mug, always tucked safely away in the back of his cabinets. No one else's. "Sorry there's no whipped cream. I meant to get more, but--"

"I'm really scared."

Something flipped within him immediately, and he shifted. "Did he touch you?" A shake of your head. "Did... Did he say something? Because if he said something--"

"He reminds me of him, Josh." You didn't meet his eyes, still staring down at the mug in your hands instead. It was always easier to not look at Joshua in moments like these. He didn't mind: whatever you needed, you could do. It was his job to listen and support now. "Like... Not in the bad ways. At least, I don't think that's it. But... I don't want to tell him everything because it's early, he doesn't need to know the intricate bullshit of that abuse." With a heavy sigh, your shoulders slumped. "But I can't set boundaries without saying 'hey, this reminds me of that abusive guy I mentioned before,' because it's his personality."

He furrowed his brows. "But..."

"It's kinda fucked up," you shifted, and set down the mug on his coffee table without taking a sip. It'd be there when you were done, and Joshua would warm it back up if he needed to. You tucked your legs underneath you, pulling the blanket he'd draped over your shoulders even closer to you. "But... When I think of that guy... I don't think of all the bad. I mean--He was a manipulative piece of shit, Josh, but that's not all he was. Like..."

"That's how abusers get their victims," he said outright, just so you wouldn't have to. "I know."

Another sigh, followed by you shifting a bit more on his couch. "Right. It's like... It's pattern recognition, I think. It's not something I want, but it's like my brain keeps waving these flags like... Hey, remember the last guy? You felt warm and fuzzy with him, too. He heard me say that no one's called me pretty or beautiful before and he started laying it on thick, too." You shut your eyes. "I know this isn't going in the same direction, because we already had this talk--I don't have to worry about it all just being for sex."

Joshua moved in a little more, arm wrapping around you. His thumb traced down your arm, and he felt you shift closer to him. "Okay. So...?"

"So I know it's all irrational. But... What if... It's all this big sign that I'm not ready to date?"

You stiffened in his arms. It was different saying it out loud, wasn't it? Joshua knew you, he knew the way you would think about things. You'd thought the same thing so, so many times--even when you weren't dating. What if you weren't ready? What if you would never be ready? Therapy wasn't something you could do yet, not without some sort of adjustment to your finances and time and everything that held you back from it all. It was always a one day kind of deal, and it'd never panned out. Life kept getting in the way.

"Then you aren't ready," Joshua said, taking your hands in his own. "And that's okay. You were really hurt by everything, you know. You're allowed to not be ready."

"We weren't even together that long."

"Okay?" Joshua squeezed your hands gently. "And? He still hurt you."

"It was... Mainly just sexual, though."

You were doing it again. Joshua slid a little closer to you, knee pressing against your thigh. "It wasn't and you know that. He listened to you a lot, he made you laugh, he complimented you..." Just so he could keep you in his grasp. He'd heard the story before and committed the details to memory so you wouldn't have to say them again. "Like you just said... It's not all bad because then no one would agree to a relationship with them."

Your breath hitched, and already Joshua was pulling you into his arms as the tears began to flow. He could feel your warm skin against the crook of his neck as you broke into sobs, fingers curling hard around the soft t-shirt he'd donned while lazing around his apartment.

"But I really like him, Shua."

"I know." He rubbed circled onto your back.

You held on tighter. "I'm just so fucking scared."

"I know." He pressed a kiss onto the side of your hair. "Maybe it's not the right time."

"Then when will it be?!" You pulled away just to see his face, tears racing down your cheeks. "When--When will it be the right fucking time?!"

He said nothing, and you broke down yet again before diving into his arms. It's been years was what you wanted to say. He shut his eyes, holding you tighter.

"I know it's not what you want to hear," he said, still rubbing circles onto your back in a slow, soothing motion. "But you should talk to him about it soon. Tell him that you might not be as ready as you thought you were. Okay?"

A quiet nod, and you held onto him tighter. "I don't wanna lose him."

"If he's the kind of guy I think he is..." Joshua's heard so much by now. "... Then he meant it when he said he was okay if this didn't go anywhere. Just..." He nudged you away, taking your face in his hands. "Just don't forget that, okay? It's okay if you try to keep this going and it turns out you're better as friends right now. Just don't shut him out."

You wiped roughly at your face with your sleeves, curling back up in Joshua's warm embrace. "I love you, you know," you mumbled. "I'm glad you're my friend, Joshua."

He chuckled, pressing another gentle kiss onto the top of your head. "Someone has to be the voice of reason when Cheol, Jeonghan, and I start making plans."

With a sniffle, you rolled your eyes. "Yeah, because sometimes those plans involve breaking into the humanities building to put party hats on the statues."

"We didn't do it--"

"Yeah! 'Cause I stopped you!" You rolled your eyes, cheek smushed against his shoulder as you rested your head against it. "Can't believe Cheol of all people knew about the broken window lock..."

He laughed, soft and warm as ever, and rested his head against your own. "Really... I mean it. It's okay to not be ready yet, okay? You're still healing."

With a sigh, you snuggled in further. "Can we just... watch something stupid and make fun of it? I think I need to clear my head now."

haha yea 😭 messed up some niche details in my star wars fic and got absolutely lambasted in the comments lmao i never wanted to post sw again 😭 but then i realized i just needed to find the gay people and it all worked out lol

I would say I'm retired from smut writing lmao 😭 but idk maybe something will change. i am not typing out the gory details of everything ive written on here I have no desire to get cancelled again

God, I have one re-writing the Zygerria arc where Ahsoka sneaks onto the mission instead of being incorporated into it that i want to finish SO BAD. when the ties that bind is done I'm really going to hammer it out because I do love it but its kind of a monster.

I'm good with dialogue and characterization and, on occasion, plot twists.

I hate writing filler. I can't do it for the life of me, which means I also tend to have pretty poor pacing. im also bad at ending scenes which is why many times my chapters will end with my characters falling asleep 😭

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

jesus fucking christ it's so hard. doing it for Mando'a is hard and it's not even a real language. Usually I just go for the itallics but sometimes it's nice to have the immersion (which only works if you do it perfectly lol)

Under Freezing Stars because it was the first long piece of fiction I ever finished, and without it I would not have made three of my best friends in the whole world so its very special and important to me

if you never bleed you're never gonna grow is one where I feel like I did something interesting and innovative with form and perspective and I'm really proud of it. I feel like a lot of times as a fic writer you can feel like what you're doing is repetitive and this one felt really unique to me!

The Ties That Bind is still a WIP but I honestly really love it and have been loving the process of writing it a lot. it's the first WIP I started posting without having at least 75% of the fic completed and it's been really interesting to see what a different process it is pre-writing vs writing as you go! Also, I love the plot contrivance that makes up the premise, I love working out all the little butterfly effects of that decision, I love making it gay and poly and I love writing a million different perspectives!!!

Hi Amethyst! It's been a hot minute since I sent an ask in, but I have been reading both fics every day (still obsessed lmao) (also I name changed btw, used to be ElenaLoo)

Anyways, I had written a whole ask waxing eloquent on all the wonderful things going on in ttsbc, but I accidentally shut off my computer partway through and frankly I can't be bothered to write it all out again lmao. Just. It's beautiful (wow isnt that so meaningful and deep? im sure you're feeling very complimented rn)

The REAL thing I wanted to talk about was Traveling thieves (which is by far my favorite fanfic of ALL TIME), and all the amazingness in ttsbc made me forget it even existed for the past few weeks. But the other day I was just like "oh yeah. Traveling thieves." and then i reread the whole thing. whoopsies.

Ummm anywyas there's so many thoughts in my head about all the little guys, but recently I've been on an Imp and Skizz obsession (just scroll on my page for .2 seconds and you'll see) and YOU. You left them on a CLIFFHANGER. >:((( (not actually mad btw). I just. so excited for them. They're out alone in the woods right now and Skizz is going to have the perfect opportunity to kill Impulse and get away and I just am falling apart thinking about them. (I drew them to cope lol, posted on my blog but also later here so that I can talk about it more). I can see this playing out a few ways. Obviously Skizz isn't actually going to kill Impulse, so he's either going to 1) make up some excuse as to why he can't do it right then, but still plans to do it eventually, or 2) he does it. but he doesn't. Skizz attacks Impulse when he's not expecting it, there's a scuffle, and Skizz comes out on top---BUT THEN HE CAN"T FINISH IT!!! and it's a whole thing where even tho skizz tried to kill him, imp is still so understanding and skizz cries and impulse just freaking gives him a hug and

Whatever you do will be beautiful, I'm sure. I think you mentioned you're switching to tt after this fic, so crossing my fingers it's imp and skizz. (Though, would also be very happy with Martyn and Ren :P) (or anything really i just love tt)

Anyways, I had the art on my blog but I'm also putting it here so i can say things about it to you

Mostly I'm just very proud of their expressions, with Impulse being all concerned glancing over at Skizz, meanwhile Skizz is completely deadpan staring forwards, also looking very tired bc he needs a break from this universe. Also I switched up my Impulse design a lil bit from last time (if u even remember that lol it was months ago now). you would think, just looking at them, that Impulse took way longer to design, but nope, I was messing around with Skizz for at least double the time, trying to figure out how to have him facing forward whilst still showing some of the scars on his back. I gave up eventually xD (all that means is that im gonna have to draw him again later, from different angles)

actually that made me remember a question I had: are you planning to ship Imp and Skizz? Ik you said Zed and Tango are going to be a thing far in the future, but... skizzpulse? plzzzz plz pretty please haha im not obsessed

aaaaaand that reminds me of another question, is skizz going to be in ttsbc? (pretty please also same question as tt, if he was in ttsbc, are him and impulse together? Im addicted to them all i care about these days is some good imp and skizz shipfics, and you're such a fantastic writer, both with plot and the vibes of the words themselves. u could write such good imp and skizz. just imagine the possibilites! (am i selling it?))

as you well know, i am neck deep in sofia + jason stuff right now. they've CAPTIVATED me. i've got a longer thing i'm workin on rn (no plot--just messed up people having emotional conversations with no real resolution at each other for 10k+) BUT i also have a couple of fics set in the same au that i'm planning on posting for jay todd week which is coming so soon ahhhhhhh. anyway here's a bit from one of those :))

“Shit,” Hood hisses, staticy through the helmet’s filter. Sofia glances back down at the wound to see that it’s still bleeding, leaking through the clumping, foaming powder. “Okay. It’s not—that’s okay.” He’s always been a very bad liar, Sofia thinks, something warm and strange spreading through her chest. Probably a symptom of the blood loss.  Now he’s trying to open up a square of gauze, but the paper keeps on slipping away from him. He curses again. His voice sounds oddly uneven, disjointed. “Jason,” Sofia says, and she doesn’t know why. She’s always been good at compartmentalizing. When the helmet is on, like it is now, when they’re working together, he’s Red Hood. When the helmet is off, on the other hand. When she’s taking him suit shopping because he can’t be trusted with his own wardrobe, when he’s sneaking into her apartment at late hours in the night after a particularly bad fight with Bruce, when he blows through her pantry in a day and she calls Selina in front of him to complain, who just calls him a growing boy because she’s always been soft on him, when he’s laughing on the couch looking like his own age for once—when the helmet’s off, he’s just Jason.  He stills when she says his name. Sofia has to forcibly pull her thoughts back on track, drifting and scattered as they are. “Your hands are shaking,” she says at last. “Yeah,” he breathes out. He reaches up to take the helmet off, and then it really is just Jason in front of her. Still in the domino mask, sure, but the domino mask doesn’t do anything to hide the tight, worried slant of his mouth. “Yeah, Sofia. I know.”

I just wanna say that I absolutely LOVE Butterfly. It’s kinda the only fanfic I care about at the moment lmao I am LOCKED IN. The story itself is great, all of the characters (even the ones everyone hate rn) are interesting, the writing is phenomenal…I could go on and on.

I have a few thoughts I wanted to get out of my head. These aren’t suggestions (cuz it’s your story and I trust where you’re gonna take it), it’s moreso just kinda be me rambling lol:

Sasuke- I know you’ve mentioned he’s going to show up again later, but I’m so anxious to see the role he’s going to play. I don’t really want it to be a romantic thing with Hinata (I am a firm NaruHina lover lol) but I would love to see him be some kind of a protective friend for her? In my head he and Hinata already know each other; like they had some type of group therapy for traumatized teens or after she was removed from her dad’s care she was temporarily in a group home where she met Sasuke and they got to know each other idk. He knows her story and the pain she deals with, and is able to relate in a sense. So he doesn’t want to see her be taken advantage of. Idk, again this is NOT a suggestion lmao just rambling.

Strength- I would argue that Hinata’s the strongest character in the story so far. Even stronger than Naruto. She’s been thru absolute hell and suffers with severe anxiety and depression. The fact she struggles with suicidal ideations and is still making the choice to live is a testament to her strength. I hope that as the story progresses, Hinata starts to recognize that in herself.

Naruto- love the way you write Naruto in this; the chapters in his pov are some of favorites tbh. As someone mentioned before, I too would love to get a few jealous Naruto scenes. Especially since he’s starting to actually *see* Hinata and recognize his attraction to her. I’m assuming that as the story progresses, Hinata will grow into her own person and become somewhat independent of Naruto (like getting her own friends); is that something Naruto might feel threatened by? Since he does have a selfish streak and is immature, I wonder if he would have an issue with keeping Hinata all to himself.

I think those were the main ramblings I had. Chapter 8 is my absolute favorite so far cuz of the cute NaruHina moment we got. I know smut is probably a ways away but I cannot WAIT till we get to it cuz you are one of my favorite smut writers tbh. Anyways that’s all for now. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!

Sasuke- Surprisingly a lot of readers have been waiting to see how Sasuke fits into all this🤭I've gotten some incredibly creative scenarios and prediction from commenters and anons that I've actually added to his role and even moved his entrance up in the timeline😄This is a very interesting scenario and I really, really like it a lot! So many people really want a protective friend Sasuke and I can't say the idea isn't unbearably adorable 💕

Strength- You hit the nail on the head for sure🫡💕Hinata's inner strength is one that's often overlooked, underestimated and underappreciated when compare to more overt forms of strength, or socially constructed ideals of what it means to be strong, and I've really, really been wanting to make a point in the world of fanfiction, specifically the Naruto fandom of fanfiction, that strength is not always aggression, violence and bitchy attitude 🤦🏽‍♀️ because I've seen, for years now, this narrow, short sighted standard of who is strong and who is weak being perpetrated and it's always, always bothered the crap out of me 😤With Butterfly, I'm hoping to open minds and break molds we've been taught to believe are absolute👎🏽but are actually highly subjective👈🏽 I swear, so many of my fics are 'break the mold' type fics, lol, I think I just like to nay say the nay sayers, ya know, shine light on areas and topics that many may make negative assertions and toxic assumptions about while in reality, know very little about the subject matter at all. I think it opens the door for more compassion, understanding and inclusion ️🫶🏽 and honestly, that's what I'm all about.

Naruto- I love, love, love me a Naruto POV 🙈idk what it is about Naruto in particular since I love most make POV but it is soooo much fun being in his head 🤭Butterfly!Naruto and Prey!Naruto are two of my fave Naruto POV's to write in, both are so much fun in different ways 😄For sure Naruto's gonna have his jealousy moments, he's too hot headed and selfish in Butterfly not to🤭Its definitely not out of the realm of possibility that he'll feel some type of way about not being the center of her attention🤔right now, he's the golden boy, he's got the coveted place at her side, he's got exclusive access nobody else has, losing that, well, he might not be too keen on it🤭although, he's been trying to introduce her to his friends and help her with her speech problems, so maybe he'll take it as a source of pride that he's help her find her confidence🤔that's why I love this Naruto 🤭he really can go either way. Like, on one hand, he can be sweeter than cotton candy, some real tooth rotting sweetness, but on the other hand he can be a selfish asshole making scummy choices just to get what he wants😅he gets tunnel vision, and the only thing that matters is reaching his goals by any means necessary. He's just a really fun character🤭

okay, so i've been doing some thinking. i've been scrolling through your blog and i stepped upon these "cheating on cove with Baxter and the other way around" scenarios. (i'm sorry, i wasn't able to read them, my heart couldn't take it ;-;) but!

what if mc was like, in a normal relationship with Baxter. you know, a couple, maybe married later and stuff, while of course still being besties with Cove. later mc and Baxter have a kid together, maybe still a small baby but! plot twist! Baxter gets into an accident or something and dies. (i'm sorry, he's my favourite man but i had to kill him for that scenario:'))

mc is completely devastated and also a little panicked, because what about the baby? and then Cove stepps in, deciding to help his best friend take care of the little one and basically becomes its father. i recently watched a video of a dog "helping" a cat take care of her kittens, and there you have it.

this one may be boring, so feel free to ignore, but i can't stop thinking about it.

also if you don't want to give up your wedding ring from baxter, I think cove would even go so far as to suggest combining it with his.

that's what cove would suggest doing. and if you are worried abt people asking why your bands are different, he'd get the same twisted band but silver with say a black diamond or smth. just smth to make it look like it's intentionally different colors but same design or smth

another thing I think you could do w your wedding band as well, and give them both your bands to do whatever they want with. or if they don't want it of course you're not forcing them to keep it

even though they didn't get to know baxter, the way you and cove still cherish baxter's memory does help them feel something of a connection.

I also imagine baxter would take lots of photo n video w the kid, even though they're young n just a babe, theres so many videos of baxter looking n acting so loving w them

and even a couple where he's teary-eyed n all "imma do you right by you. I love you so much.."

of course, if the kid doesn't feel that connected to baxter since they were too young to know or rmbr anything, and they don't feel anything much other than sympathy and the occasional sting when they see how much baxter loved them, you don't force it.

you both know that baxter was basically a stranger to them and even though they still respect baxter and he has a place in their heart, they don't feel like they're lacking anything.

cove happily listens to anything they have to say on how they feel abt baxter btw. he accepts any of their feelings, be it that they don't feel anything at all, sympathy for others, or they feel sad abt losing him.

if they do say smth like how even though it's unfortunate and they feel bad for everyone who mourns baxter (for example/especially you), they see cove as their dad and don't feel like they're missing anything and they're happy to have cove for their dad.

ofc he cries n hugs them n tells them he loves em and he's happy n he comforts them if needed of course

I also think cove is very scared abt being a father

especially in this way... even if the kiddo doesn't remember anything, or it's hazy at best, he worries about replacing baxter.

he'd probably worry abt not living up to baxter

baxter was always much more mature, at least it seemed that way most times. cove just worries about if he has the backbone and the ability to parent the child well and be someone they can look up to and/or appreciate for being a good father

if they do it before you start dating, I imagine it's one of the catalyst that cause you to talk abt your feelings for each other. or if it's in the early stage..

cove prbly freezes and runs away to the other room n freaks out, definitely cries. if you don't talk to him like right after he calls his dad n cries n shares his worries n fear

either way, when you do talk he's biting his nails n trying not to pace around the room and he's like "if you wanna distance yourselves so that they don't call me dad any more I totally understand, I mean idk it's prbly weird for you-"

n he just rambles. like none of it makes sense n u have to physically shut him up. kiss him, yell, throw a pillow, hit him w the child's stuffed animal, throw a single lego brick at his back and watch him fall to the floor like he just got a nuke thrown at him

if it's later on n theres nothing to worry abt bc youve talked abt this or saw it coming or its just the otherwise most natural step, he cries of course

and when you wake up, cove is alrdy awake and was watching you two. he was petting the kids wild hair and he had pulled the two of you in and kept you under his arm..

and the sunlight is coming in, the day is just perfect. n the look on cove's face is full of so much love but also a bit somber this time

(cove feels awkward being here like this sometimes. during times like this you have to remind him it's okay, and you pull him back in. of course he does the same for you on those days.)

"I love you two. so much..." he whispers, tears sticking to his lashes

the kid flips over, curling into cove and they stop their sleepy mumbling now that they're tucked into cove's chest, feeling warm, happy, and safe.

you whisper equally as tender. "we were meant to be like this too."

imagine the kid looks mostly/very much like baxter. they act very much like cove's kid

like you would think cove n baxter had a kid together LOL

I’m getting back into writing myself, but i feel like i don’t have any set approach to writing fic. do you mind sharing what your process is like? do you outline beforehand or just rawdog a first pass? or does it all just fall out on the page, fully formed? So from reading what other people put about their writing process, I think I'm a bit of an odd outlier.

I think overall I fit into the "fall out onto the page fully formed" type.

So for context:

I'm a pretty experienced imaginary world builder I think, like a lot of people here. I've been doing it as a means of escape since I was 6 or 7 years old. And the plot and details of my imaginary world had to be up to a scratch even then. It can't stay if it's not true to the plot, characters, etc.

I tell nobody about these worlds.

I'm an experienced academic writer and researcher, and I also run the first and second edits on my husband's books before he sends them on. I think words come fairly naturally to me.

Stories tend to come to me like movie scenes. I write them like I'm watching the movie in my head and typing down what I see, hear, feel, smell.

Once I know a character as a person, I can understand them enough to know what they're going to say in a given situation.

I tend to make my banners, descriptions, layouts, tags, etc. before I start writing. It makes the writing feel more 'complete' as I do it.

The actual writing process:

I only have a loose plot idea, if any, when I start.

See the movie-- write the movie.

I edit sentence by sentence. I try to catch any immediate typos. I see if it flows from one sentence to the next. I see if everyone is in the right location, if the pacing matches the scene, etc. I check to see that it sounds as I see it.

I tend to do it all in the evenings as I have little to no daytime to myself. I tend to do it in one sitting, maybe two for a very long piece.

I do it all on my phone, either directly into Tumblr drafts or a notepad app (which is also why I have no word counts).

I drink non-stop tea.

If I didn't read back once it's all done, it would be very similar to the final piece I put out. I don't tend to "draft". I just recheck for spelling, grammar and the occasional word choice.

I delight in everyone's lovely responses. I often then reread my own fics, re-editing for typos which my friends on here sometimes point out for me too.

Another bit of context, in case anyone is interested; 99% sure I'm totally neurotypical. Was once described as 'disgustingly neurotypical' by my sister.

So, yeah. I hope that helps. But I feel like it probably won't. Saying "my first draft is basically what gets put out" feels like such a disgusting brag because I know people spend hours drafting and redrafting. It's why I wouldn't necessarily share that unless someone asked.

And honestly I've been seeing a rise in writers! Even if they mainly do only one certain or very few characters it still counts for me! Like Bunni-v1, Dooberific, xxgoldie, luminque, or that one harumasa-wifey that started a community. (Honestly I was considering creating a community myself for writers and readers so there's a condensed place for fics but I wasn't sure if people would be interested. Or just a yumeship or one specifically for Lycaon lmao)

I don't follow all of them admittedly (I forget to follow people a lot even after combing their accounts for fics) but if you don't already, go check them out! You can also find a ton of writers within the main zenless zone zero x reader tag (how I came across most!)

But that's not the main point of this! Your chubby question made me want to rant and rave over the characters with chubby or fat partners since I am fat myself (I say this neutrally, not self insulting).

Now if I were to be fully honest and consider this as what I would believe to be as canon as possible...hmm I can't see many necessarily care? Being absolutely for real rn but I can't really see any of then having too much of a preference.

But also if I were to put my critique glasses on, the only bigger people we see are either thirens (specifically the bears or that orangutan guy who I forgot the name of) or pearlman and...yeah. I haven't seen any chubby npcs which actually kind of weirds me out since even genshin has those, or I could just have not noticed like an idiot dhskdjf

But right the characters!! (Can you tell I have a habit of rambling, sorry fhskdjfj)

In my personal opinion I think most of the thiren characters would appreciate a chubby s/o a lot because the extra plush would make better cuddles. And also may cause less worry for some of them afraid to hurt you, since there would be more weight to cushion you.

And possibly Billy as well because there's more to squeeze without worry of hurting you accidental (plus I feel like he would be slightly fascinated at the jiggle your skin does).

Highkey this is a very personal headcanon, but something in me says Lighter specifically would like his chubby s/o to sit on him because he likes how the weight grounds him. So I can see him offering his lap a lot as a seat at random times, plus it adds to his cool guy look by having a cutie on his lap.

Though that's not to say any other character wouldn't like a chubby s/o, but I can't really think of a specific trait they would have. But they would still love you no matter the size!

A Year in Writing; 2024 — A Retrospective

Due to circumstances I'm going to have to present this post a little differently than I normally do. You may note I basically retreated from fandom stuff, and I cannot share the fics I've published in chronological order. Nor can I share too much data in the way of word counts per each project exactly as I have done in the past.

Don't mistake me, I have been writing this year. It's just... something bad happened in my brain that isn't exactly burn out but is similar, in that presents in a way that means I don't have the cognitive capacity to write Prose™. It's been this way for the overwhelming majority of the year, and honestly I was already struggling with it for the last half of 2023.

There's a lot of reasons for this, some of them personal, some of them we're all struggling with to some extent. I could point to the increasing fickleness of fandoms, write a whole essay over how it is soooo incredibly difficult to remain motivated when no one is engaging with what you're working on, bitch about how fucking soul destroying and exhausting it is to be a disabled person in any capacity in our society, let alone one seeking access to further resources.

BUT that's not why we're here. This isn't a sob story, this is a post mortem of my writing efforts for this year. Sure it sucks to be you not able to read new additions to my fics, but the fact of the matter is I do not control the rate at which I heal, nor major life events that happen whether you are ready for them or not, and I most certainly do not control the rate at which hyperfixation.

What I Learnt as a Writer in 2024:

Personal private wikis and how to use them. It's still a learning curve, but each month I'm getting a little better at knowing what I need and what I can do.

How to be stronger and more resilient; knowing when it's okay to pack away a project (even it's unfinished but so close to completion) in order to focus on myself and my own immediate needs.

What I thought was strong will and resolve was actually catastrophically debilitating decision fatigue. With ADHD medication, I'm learning impulse control in ways that are downright humbling at my age.

(This is something I technically learnt as an artist years ago but...) When you're not actively practicing a skill but are still thinking about it daily, you're still growing and learning in understanding of theory that will be ready to bounce into action when you're ready.

Writing Goals for 2024:

I still want to finish Under the Wave, it bugs me to a neuroatypical degree that it remains unfinished. I cannot guarantee I'll be ready to return to it next year, but once I am ready I will make an attempt.

Outside of this I am unsure if I want to return to ToA projects. I quite like what I've done over the years and I fully support people going back and re-reading, downloading my fics, hell even binding them if you want, who even KNOWS what the internet is going to be like in 5-10 years time. (Just don't sell my fics for money or claim them as your own.)

But I'm tired, I don't know where that ToA spark is hiding anymore. I will ultimately go towards whatever makes my brain go brrrrrrrr, and for me rn that is in worldbuilding stuff and my gay little dnd guys. It is possible that finishing Under the Wave will bring it back again, but I can't make promises.

Could you do a one-shot on the twincest story, on how one day reader gets angry with satoru for spending to much time with Suguru and stays with shoko all day avoiding satoru and not sleeping with either.

(I just wanna see satoru reaction when his twin ignores him, like completely, no text, no calls, no messages, she isn't even by his side for the whole day)

i'm glad you enjoyed, and god, like. i totally GET this feeling. i really do! i've felt this exact same way reading stories where the main ship has a dude that's being a dick, for sure. like the VENGEFUL energy is absolutely there. the desire to yank away everything from someone who feels so entitled to it.

but as a writer, realistically. reader would not do that. they're super codependent at this point.

idk if you read the prelude to the incest fic but like. you and satoru grew up together. your parents actually wanted to take you in and raise you but satoru stopped them bc he didn't want to be alone.

you were also just... not important to the family like satoru was.

so you didn't get the personal, unconditional love that a parent gives their child, but you also didn't get the collective, conditional love/adoration that satoru got for being the six eyes.

you were just there. next to him. the only person who cared what happened to you was satoru. you were only important to anyone because he cared about you.

you were only important if you were important to him.

and that's not just about being acknowledged by your clan. the only source of affection or companionship you had was satoru - and it was the same for him.

so ignoring him... well, it's easier said than done.

BUT! i could definitely see like. you going out for a night with shoko and not answering your phone for a while and gojo gets bitchy. the thig is, gojo also has geto to annoy (and ditch when he feels like it bc he's a jerk like that), so it wouldn't be that big a deal to him.

he'd hunt you down at the end of his day to drag you off to bed. he knows you can't sleep without him either so he feels 0 remorse. enjoy spending time with shoko with cockblock supreme hanging around dsjhfglhdsgf

god he'd be insufferable about it too. like "omg are you gonna kiss? hot". pretending he won't get jealous. i think shoko could manage to tease him for a bit before he just huffs and grabs you and uses his infinity to keep her from touching.

i do have more (vaguely) planned for twincest but it's kinda in a backseat situation rn. chronologically, the "latest" fic in that series is you fucking geto - that's when geto finds out that you and satoru are fucking.

i'm just not sure where to go from there. if satoru should walk in on the two of you, or worse, if satoru wants suguru to walk in on you and him... i haven't come up with an idea i'm really vibing with. yet >.>

currently no fics i've published have an angsty ending; however, the most angsty fic in general is a brief respite, in which Charles is struggling in Japan.

all my fics have fairly happy endings, but maybe after hours, which is a cute, fluffy slice of life after Imola in which Charles surprises Max by taking him on a mini vacation and Max realizes Charles may be the one for him. 😊

Do you write crossovers?

no, i do not, but i applaud any authors that do! it takes so much time and energy to balance multiple fandoms and niche elements of each, so it's amazing to see work being created through crossovers!

nah. my advice? if you dislike a work, just DNF and move on. no need to spread unprompted hate in strangers' inboxes. 💜

external conflict and conflict-resolution for sure. i feel like i'm good at the feeling part of things, the internal turmoil, but making things happen TO and AROUND characters that affect the story is one thing i've always been consistently called out to do more of.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

if you like it, do it. and HOT TAKE 🔥: it's ok if i don't know what they're saying. i get there maybe be issues with grammar, tense, word choice, etc. that's not why i read fic. because the point isn't that i need to know the exact translation. the point is that i need to believe that character when they switch to their native tongue. i need to feel that they're so fucked out, in love, overwhelmed, embarrassed, scared, excited, sad, WHAT HAVE YOU... that the only thing they can possibly say is something in their own language. so yeah i said what i said. 🎤

It depends on the comment, but I don't respond all the time. If someone has a question, or I feel I need to correct them/steer them in the right direction, I'll answer, but I don't respond to most of the ones gushing/aweing over the fic, not to say I don't still appreciate them all immensely.

Rom, My Beloved is my saddest/angstiest from my individual works, but there are some really angsty fics in my Loki and Markiplier Ego compiled works. I wrote it because Rom is my favorite Bloodborne boss and I just loved her lore, but tragedy abounds when you talk about a Soulsborne game

A lot of my fics nowadays have happy endings, but my favorite of my completed individual works is probably The Rescue of Magistrate Ancunin, because it's open-ended as to what could happen next but it takes a devastating moment from Astarion's life and makes it nice and a little silly

In recent memory, no, but I'm sure I have at some point. I usually delete it and move on

Very vanilla but very emotionally-charged. I have a tendency to focus more on the emotions of those involved and how they feel about their partner over how the sex feels

I've been told that it's the little details I add that ground it more into reality, ie hair getting caught on earrings or a voice cracking while trying to sing

I feel like I don't describe things complex enough. I can describe emotions or scenery and dip in a little bit, but I can never get it deep *enough*, but I know that comes mostly with neurodivergences and comparing myself to others

18 - Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I hate when writers have foreign words/phrases in the middle of a fic and don't translate them until the very very end. That means I have so pick up the context clues around it, translate it myself, or risk getting spoiled trying to find the translation

Also, if your character uses sign language, don't put it in italics or ' ', just write it out like if it was verbal dialogue. "They signed, '[fill in the blank]'" Describe the way the gestures are formed (sloppy, sharp, indecipherable, fast) to get across emotion, and also the expressions on their face, since sign languages are very heavily reliant on facial emotions to ass meaning to the signs themselves

I will say I am really really enjoying my work on I Come With Knives so far. It's a passion project and I have some very big, angsty things planned for the future that I can't wait to get to >:3
