BEN: Prefers lizards and insects but isn't opposed to loving bunnies and cats. Definitely researches different bugs and has a whole little notebook about them. Takes scary care of his pets and will go feral if you mess with them without his permission. Will talk your ear off about it if you let him shamelessly. Specifically likes to stick bugs the most. He collects small bugs he finds around the mansion and keeps them in jars. Names the bugs. Pet rabbit. Has jars of fireflies but lets them go after like two or three nights.

"Ben, what the hell is this?" you asked, grabbing the small buzzing jar. He hummed slightly, turning around, yet his eyes didn't leave his game until he was facing you completely. "Don't touch that!" he cried, snatching the glass from your grasp. "Okay, but what is it?" you repeated, crossing your arms over your chest with a chuckle. "His name is Greggley," he answered, placing the jar back on its high shelf. "I'm sorry, his name is fucking what?"

Eyeless Jack: Cat guy. Need I say more? has like eight fucking cats he found. Is way overprotective of them. Names them shit that will correlate to how he acquired them. Like, if he found them chasing a bird, their name would be some shit like "Birdie" or "Hunter" because it's cute. They claw at him like a scratching post, and you cannot convince me otherwise. He no longer wears shorts because of them. Gives them toys but is fully aware they will not be used. Can fit two in each hand. "You're not allergic to fur, are you?" Jack inquired. You shook your head quietly, a no. "Good,' he muttered. Opening the door, multiple cats rushed to him, rubbing against his legs and letting out loud meows. "Hello, princess!" he cooed, picking up a chubby calico. He rested the cat over his shoulder, beginning to pet its back. "Such a good kitty, aren't you?" he purred (get it? lmao) The kitten meowed in response, leaning into him more. "The cannibal demon man has cats..."

Jeff: He doesn't like small animals. Likes 'cool' animals, as he would say. Falcons, hawks, sharks, etc. Has a secret soft spot for sea otters. Would never admit it, though. Has had many fish in the past. None have survived for too long. His current fish is named "Bubbles" but he will not say its name. Only in his head. Aggressively nice to animals. Not allowed to have animals smaller than a cat. He will lose it. Cuddles with his animals. Feeds a stray dog. Smile dog. "Cute ass fish," he muttered, back cracking loudly as he stood upright from his crouched position. "Did you say something?" you inquired. "No, and even if I did, what's it matter to you?" he snapped. "Sorry," you ruefully replied, rolling your eyes. Sprinkling the food in the bowl, he squinted, as much as he can, at least, and said something else under his breath. Little did you know, he was calling his fish by its name.

Toby: Feeds every stray. Every single one. Cat, dog, rat. Doesn't matter to him. He has several rats and lets them crawl all over him. One is named "Gerard" and the other is named "Frank" because we stan My Chemical Romance <3333 Brings them places in his pocket around the mansion and in town. Never on missions. Kisses them on the head. They are chubby little rats, and he will not take criticism of them. They are his babies. "Toby, what the fuck is in your pocket?" Tim questioned, watching as the area wiggled around oddly. Toby moved his hand up, pulling out a black and white rodent. "Really? You brought the fucking rat to breakfast?" Brian joked. Toby shook his head, a no. "The fuck do you mean 'no'?" Tim angrily asked. Swallowing his food, a shit-eating grin plastered his face. Once again, he moved his hand up, pulling out another rat. "No, I brought them both."

Helen: Like four cats. They are not allowed in his studio. Many scars from them. They hide under his bed and get his legs when he walks by. Has run into many walls trying to avoid this. Does not trust them. Buys them that expensive ass kitty food and tuna. Cat treats. His cats know tricks for sure. They are mean. He jumps onto his bed from a distance away because of the fear of monsters under his bed (the cats) Names them after famous artists/poets. They give him even more mental instability. "Oh my fucking-" he cried, stopping mid-sentence to exhale loudly. The small black cat ravaged his ankles, kicking and thrashing to assert dominance. Bending over, he lifted the kitty from his limb, tossing it on the bed to continue his phone call. "Yeah, sorry. Mr. Sparkle Palooza bit me again," (I'm so sorry for the name)

Hoodie/Brian: He likes big dogs. Like German Shepherds, Golden retrievers, and any type of hound. Dogs go on as many walks as he can provide. Many, many treats. They are spoiled. He gives them scraps excessively. They sleep on his bed, despite having their own. Very well trained. "Sick em'" is his favorite surprise. Vicious ass dogs fr. Clips their nails regularly. Hates when he gets called a 'dog dad' or when his dogs are called 'fur babies' because it weirds him out. "Oh, godamnit. Can you fucking stop, you crazy asshole?" he muttered, attempting to hold the dog in place as the clippers came in contact with the animals' nails. You watched, amused, across the room as he swore to himself. "Need some help?" you joked. "No, (y/n), I do not need help."

Masky: No animals. Unless it's like a single cat, he's not down. However, does enjoy deer and other forest animals. Has been horseback riding. Enjoyed it thoroughly. No animals unless approved by him.

Laughing Jack: Endless animals. Cats, dogs, rats, mice, deer, birds. All of them but snakes. He hates snakes. But is super affectionate toward any other animal. "Jack, look what I found!" you cheered, holding up a small kitten. With wide eyes and a grinning face, he gently took it from your hand, cradling it as if it were as fragile as glass. "It's ours now."

They look like such sweethearts! And so little too! Would like to know more of your thoughts on Sex Education if you have the time! I like it but it certainly has its faults

In terms of plot: Season 1 was very good, we originally started watching it just to see how cringey it was and we got pretty sucked in. Season 2 was decent up to the end, I really disliked the play, Mr Groff going all Regina George and especially Adam running on stage to hold Eric's hand while everyone cheered. I know its deliberately meant to be OTT but I felt like this was taking it way too far. Season 3 was annoying tbh I mean I still watched it and was relatively invested but they massively jumped the shark imo. I read a review that said the problem was that Otis used to be known for his insightful commentary and communication but now everyone seems to have that skill. This hit the nail on the head imo - with everyone having magically become uber progressive and honest about their feelings and all this there was no natural conflict, everything either came out of nowhere or was in the form of the Disney villain esque headmistress.

In regards to the political themes of the show: well... there were already some issues earlier on, the worst (imo) plotline happened in season 1, and that is the revenge porn plot where an image of Ruby's vagina is circulated round the school. This is resolved by her "owning" it and becoming more confident or whatever, and her friendship with the girl who did it is rekindled. This is treated like an argument gone a bit far, rather than a very serious sexual offense. Really got under my skin.

Aside from a few bits like that, most of the show is what I would consider a "normal" level of problematic ie its stuff that you would find in most shows. Not that it makes it okay because "everyone's doing it" but it wouldn't jump out at me anywhere near as much if the show wasn't heralded like legitimately educational for teens in terms of sex and other underrepresented issues.

For example, Ruby going to get the morning after pill and being asked personal questions in front of Otis that advance her character development. The thing is, a lot of girls shy away from getting contraception like this specifically because they are concerned about being asked invasive questions and embarrassed. However, this will not happen - while they may require information before they give it to you, if you are given the morning after pill, or indeed any other medication that requires some backstory, they will not put you on the spot infront of the whole shop but take you into a private area and you would not be obliged to have Otis come in. If they did start asking questions like that you'd be within your rights to ask them to take it somewhere more private, and again most of them will do this by default.

In a regular show I would a bit annoyed at this but its really just a maybe misjudged bit of artistic license to move the plot. However, if the show is going to be considered a genuine resource for sexual education then the morning after pill is absolutely not the place for artistic license and it drives me mad.

I also think a lot of the points made in the show are borderline Conservative dressed up in progressive speak. For instance, every time a woman isn't feeling good during sex, Otis immediately jumps to inquiring about their emotional investment, whether they are really in love etc. Whilst the connection between emotional health and sexual health is a good one to make, I can't help but feel it is heavily gendered, and dismisses the physical side of it. It is entirely possible to be having bad sex with someone you totally love and good sex with someone you don't. The show seems to make out that this isn't true, particularly for women. For instance when the lesbian couple in s1 aren't vibing during sex and Otis refuses to talk about the physical instead of the emotional, and of course turns out to be right about this.

Combining these two points, a particularly specific issue i have with this show is how often it seems to be saying that women should enjoy being penetrated with no foreplay, unless there is Something Going On. Poor Lily is the epicenter of this, with partners frequently trying to shove something in their with no build up, and this is constantly explained with either her not being ready and/or vaginismus. Again, I do not object to these things being part of the show, but penetration without proper arousal WILL hurt, it will hurt anyone. So why, when Otis, allegedly a sex expert, is asked about this, is "did you do any foreplay" not his first question?? Why does Ola, who has her own vagina and has been fingered before, think Lily will want her to just jam her fingers in and act surprised when it hurts??

These are just examples but I feel like it was very frequent across the show to have plotlines that feed into myths, often sexist myths, about sex yet it has a reputation for correcting myths about sex.

It also has a reputation for good lgbt representation yet it often misses the mark there too. People complain a lot about Adam and Eric but ironically I don't hate that - there are a few specific issues but I don't think the whole "bully is secretly gay and they end up dating" is too badly done in this context. I feel like some of my issues with it stem from what I said about the plot - in the second and third series lots of people became a walking woke twitter account, and as such homophobia became non existent. It makes it seem like any issues with his sexuality were all in Adams head, and also that homophobia is only an issue at all for men. Ola discovering she was pansexual via an online quiz, immediately getting a girlfriend and seemingly everyone knew - family as well as the school and there were no problems whatsoever was probably the peak of the silly representation.

There was also that scene where Eric yells at Adam for (seemingly) not wanting to have sex and like... for a show that allegedly preaches consent i have no idea why they thought that was appropriate.

Thats not to say its all bad, there are decent things about Sex Education, having lgbt characters on screen having similar relationships to the heterosexual characters is good, at least originally demonstrating the problems caused by lack of communication was a positive, talking extensively about female pleasure is a good thing, especially the plotline with Amy discovering masturbation was well done I thought. Even discussing things like vaginismus are a net positive even if I dislike the way it was brought up. However I just feel like too much of the show contradicts the purpose that it allegedly has for me to fully be on board.

Note: I know lots of people have issues with the sexualisation of underage characters, albeit adult actors. I do agree, but i don't think its loads worse than other shows. As above this doesn't make it right but I just wanted to stick to the things that are specific to this show.

I’m guessing this means TV series - in which case, Leverage. I’m currently on the 5th season, which is fantastic so far.

DALLAS JACKSON, 23, third year. 

SECRET: he deals drugs. the jacksons are in the circle of wealthy families in violet springs alongside the calloways, hamiltons, carmichaels, barhams sinclairs etc.but they’re bankrupt, the family has a lot of dark secrets and the main one is that his dad is an addict to both gambling and drugs, to the point where their family is now bankrupt and loaning tons of money from other families are dodgy loan-sharks. the pressure from being the main bread-winner of the family has turned dallas into somebody he never set out to be. 

WHERE HE IS ATM: mentally, dallas is on a rocky road to health. he’s still addicted to drugs himself but after a very messy break-up with zara and a messier one with soraya, he’s working closely with friends to focus on his career and try to at least get his mental health in the right place.  MY PLANS: another downfall is literally inevitable, it’s dallas. i do think he’ll build himself back up to be huge, though, but he has a lot of resentment to a lot of people and can count on both hands the people he actually likes at st judes. i think there’ll be a lot more of OG dallas; hurting people/arguing with those he doesn’t care about etc.  UP COMING PROJECT: justice the album.

MASON CARMICHAEL, 26, fifth year.

SECRET: mason is the only child in the carmichael family who knows that their dad isn’t dead. after getting too close to being tied to a very serious money laundering case, he took his stroke in 2019 as a route out. however, he kept in touch with mason knowing he’s probably the most trustworthy to keep his whereabouts a secret. mason is sitting on the information but it’s getting harder and harder to do when he sees how much the loss of such a key figure is affecting him.  

WHERE HE IS ATM: at the moment, mason and kendall have been trying to start a family and he’s also found out that amy is his daughter. this threw him into a huge dilemma and he clashed extremely hard with madison over it. there are still hard feelings - and towards bash, who was just given the role of amy’s father despite mason knowing nothing about it.  MY PLANS: i think mason is going to want to see amy more and more despite knowing kendall isn’t hot on the idea/neither is madison to an extent. depending on how everything goes, he’ll definitely take madison to caught for joint custody of amy seeing as he’s never refused to be her dad or acknowledge her - he was just never told.  UP COMING PROJECT: princesses, the franchise. 

BRODY CARMICHAEL, 25, fourth year. 

SECRET: brody has very publicly become a father. he and disney have had their relationship watched by the world since they started high school musical at 14. on the outside, he has everything together. he’s the alpha male type; not that that’s great; think the character taylor plays in her “the man” video and pretty untouchable. on the inside, he’s seriously grieving the loss of his dad and isn’t coping well with the pressure of a new family. his drinking problem happens very much behind closed doors and is straining his marriage but divorce isn’t a marriage, both of them are way too invested in being the world’s most perfect couple.

WHERE HE IS ATM: he’s already had a warning from the hospital that another binge like he’s had could be the end of him and he’s on a very stern plan to become sober. again, nobody actually knows this so he’s kind of recovering in silence but i think he’ll genuinely get better.

MY PLANS: it’ll take a long time but he’ll definitely get better. i don’t think plots always have to be about characters spiralling. i’m also planning for him to see his dad by mistake or something of the sort. i feel like a lot of people will assume he’s high/drunk and it’ll really fuck with him but i haven’t sat and thought out of the details. 

UP COMING PROJECT: neighbours 2: sorority rising 

BLAKE CRUZ, 23, third year.

SECRET: he watched his brother die. blake didn’t really know what was happening at the time but when he was 12, his older brother charlie was 16. he’d come in after a night of sneaking out and crept back into their shared room as usual. blake was still awake and heard he was clearly drunk, but that wasn’t out of the ordinary. he only knew something was seriously wrong when he fell asleep, and then woke up a few hours later and realised charlie was unconcious on top of his bed, still in his clothes - he never just passed out and always got ready for bed; even when completely wasted. he finally called for his parents but it was too late. by morning, charlie was pronounced dead and blake is living with the guilt of not saying anything because he didn’t want to get his brother in trouble. instead, he just let him die. he still hasn’t come to terms with it and tells charlie’s old friends that his death was undetermined instead.  WHERE HE IS ATM: blake is very good at burying his memories of charlie and focuses on his relationship and career to stop him from falling down a rabbit hole of guilt and self blame. he’s focused on his new marriage and releasing music with the 5SOS boys, although he’s had his own projects in the works for a very long time - he just doesn’t know how to go about it.  UP COMING PROJECTS: CALM, 5sos. 

OTIS KINGSTON, 21, second year.

SECRET: otis actually wants to become a teacher. he’s enrolled in the academy for acting after his uncle pushed him towards doing it and he’s had moderate success but his true passion lies in teaching others and being out of the spotlight. that’s why he’s very slowly failing on purpose; he wants to be a seventh year and be given more normal career paths. it might have something to do with the fact that he was having an affair with his older brother’s girlfriend who also failed her final year and is currently a student teacher. his brother never bothers with her so it makes it easy for the two of them to sneak around.

WHERE HE IS ATM: otis is very good at pretending. he puts on such a show that when he loses out or doesn’t get a role, people think he’s GENUINELY upset when in reality, he probably did it on purpose. he feels a little bad taking the spot from someone who wants it, but he did what he needs to do.

UP COMING PROJECTS: euphoria (?)

NATE HARWOOD, 23, third year.

SECRET: nate never got into st judes to begin with. he cheated himself in by changing some of his exam results in high school. a good friend of his tried to push him to do the right thing and consider his other options but nate was fixated on getting into the school, along with two more of his friends who initially failed. his friend threatened him and told him that he’d let their professors know if he went through with it. to stop him getting anywhere near, nate and his friends spiked his drink to get him too drunk to remember on prom night; however, he was so drunk he fell down a huge staircase outside the venue on the fire escape and ended up paralysed from the waist down. 

WHERE HE IS ATM: nate has more or less buried the high school mistake but every now and then it comes back to haunt him. at the moment, he’s just making music and doing his best to live the dream he risked WAY too much for. 

UP COMING PROJECTS: a good friend is nice

DARIUS RICHARDS, 24, fourth year.

SECRET: darius is actually a west ivy’s student. he was selected by his principle to secretly enroll in st judes to check out the competition. he’s also behind a lot of the sabotages that have been happening in the school (including the up and coming fire). his main aim is to make sure that west ivy’s is better than st judes in everyway, no matter what it takes. 

WHERE HE IS ATM: he’s hiding in plain sight. nobody suspects a thing from him. darius is being extra careful with the projects he releases and to always stay a little bit below complete stardom - it makes it easier for him to navigate and do things unnoticed. but, he has met people he genuinely likes too and does his best to save them from sabotage. 

UP COMING PROJECTS: starboy

TATE SIMPSON, 26, fifth year. 

SECRET: back to the tragedy in his home...it’s true that tate was never harmed by anyone growing up; not physically, anyway. but that doesn’t mean his home was perfect. his parents were young when they had him and he grew up with little money. this put a lot of strain on them and his dad couldn’t deal with it. he resorted to cheating, drinking and being wildly abusive. there were mornings tate turned up at school without sleeping because he’d been up all night hearing his parent’s argue and fight. it escalated. his father moved on to beating his mother and he’d feel helpless. one night while they were arguing, the fire alarm went off due to them leaving the oven on and it stopped them. so, the next time the fighting got severe and tate heard his mother being beat again, he had an idea. he grabbed a lighter from his parents bedroom and set fire to one of his stuffed animals to set the fire alarm off - it did, and his parents stopped arguing, but not before the fire had spread across the top floor of their home. the fire brigade rescued tate and his father, but not his mother. she passed away and he’s blamed himself ever since. nobody ever found the real case, but that doesn’t make it much better for him.

WHERE HE IS ATM: he’s new and just starting out!

MARCUS CARMICHAEL, 26, fifth year.

SECRET: marcus is often used as his uncle’s scapegoat. james never wanted to get leo, mason or brody too tied into the shadier side of the family business so marcus; child of a single mother and secretly desperate for an in to their world was the perfect candidate. he’s never minded either, to be honest. if he gets paid for shifting some money around or scamming a big time director, so be it. however, the last job he did for james was way too intense, even for him. it included the trafficking of janey and collecting the money made off of her. he had a chance to save her, he knows that, but not without exposing his uncle’s dark secrets. he was never DIRECTLY involved but he knows that doesn’t make him any better. 

WHERE HE IS ATM: marcus is focusing on his acting career and making a conscious effort to be better and stay out of trouble. with ghosts from his past constantly showing up, though, it really is proving to be difficult. 

UP COMING PROJECTS: hemlock grove

ANTHONY HENSHAW, 27, fifth year. 

SECRET: anthony is a stalker. he fixates on people and it gets intense. after being bullied in high school, he latches on to the people who’re nice to him and reads too much into small acts of kindness. he can actually be incredibly dangerous; not many people have noticed yet. 

WHERE HE IS ATM:  he’s currently fixated on natasha but always open for more.

KRISTOFER NILSEN, 27, fifth year.

SECRET: the stunt at the calloway isn’t random. his dad persuaded him to get it in order to get more information on gerald and more specifically, his account details. believe it or not, philip has already managed to access one of his minor accounts after snooping through a secret office of his, but it only had hundreds in there. he’s ok though; he’s ready to play the long game - and steal from all his less privacy-savy friends while he’s waiting.

WHERE HE IS ATM: just starting out!

JUDE BAKER, 18, first year.

SECRET: he’s family are super broke, but he doesn’t let on TOO much. everybody in town knows that his family own the motel that’s on the border of violet springs and london, but that leads to people assuming he’s quite well off or at least average which is how he likes it. his dad is way too carried away with his dream of being a hotel owner which has lead to the baker family selling everything. he literally lives in the motel and really doesn’t have much else to report on.

WHERE HE IS ATM: he’s quiet, anxious and i feel like he’d have one friend who isn’t exactly popular either. all through attending springs park, he was bullied by assholes and st judes was meant to be his fresh start, but he’s realised everybodys worse and with a bigger ego. he keeps himself to himself and is just tries not to be a target.

Regarding Past Mistakes & the BD Release

Hello everyone, entame here.

As I get closer and closer to beginning the sub process for episodes 1-13 of SEVENS using its Blu-Ray, I do want to address some issues regarding my subs that have been brought up either directly to me, or anonymously across other sites.

Before I begin, I want to note that this concerns most of my earlier subs, which is why I thought to make this post with the BD releases on the horizon.

As of writing this, this “sub group” consists of two people (and is in the process of adding a third, mostly to help with timing)—the person writing this post (”entame”), and Yona, the proofreader. When I first began subbing SEVENS (specifically for episodes 12 and 13), it was a one-person job. This means I did translations, proofreading, and timing by myself (to some extent, I still do all three of these jobs, but not as much as I used to). Yona did not join until around 13-14.

I realize that I have made a lot of mistakes over the course of this subbing career, but especially concerning the beginning episodes, which were the finale of the first arc, and therefore very important in the grand scheme of things. 

I want to deeply apologize for them, and address what happened and what’s going to change about them (and possibly future subs) going forward.

Episode 12 in particular was rife with some mistranslation errors. The most “obvious” was concerning the first release of the episode where the context of Roa’s rule-sharking was different than it is now (I don’t quite remember it exactly, so this is why it’s vague). Obviously, a lot of this was corrected in the second release of the episode, and the first version isn’t a thing that exists anymore, even on my own hard drive. It is somewhat fortunate that it also doesn’t exist on anime mirror sites either, as the first group to get a sub out was SevensRoadSubs, so it is their version of episode 12 that exists on most streaming sites.

Likewise, episode 13 suffered these mistakes as well. One example is translating the tournament that Otis was disqualified at as “the 60th” instead of the “the 666th”, which is the correct one. Stuff like this slipped past my notice, so please accept my apologies.

However, the framing of 12 and 13 also laid the groundwork for how certain things would be subbed in future episodes. This means mistakes would endure, such as Roa saying “Distortion Power Code” or the phrasing of his summoning chant in the subs of 13 and 18, despite the fact that it should be “Distortion Power Chord” (as I learned later on). Some of you will also remember the notice I made regarding the decision to use YGOrganization’s translations of cards (where available) post-episode 15, for the sake of consistency across fandom.

Doing subs for SEVENS every week has been a very great joy to me, and something I don’t regret doing. That said, I also know I have made a lot of mistakes, earning some ire. I have learned a lot in the past 3 months since I started. I have never done large-scale translation work or fansubbing before this, so a lot of it has been growing pains. I intended to use the translation of SEVENS as a stepping stone to improving my Japanese (which it has!), but I am not perfect, and always open to corrections.

I say this on every sub release post and also at the end of every episode—I am always, always, always open to corrections. I will make mistakes, and though I try my best to notice them, sometimes I may not. Sometimes, as in the case of “Distortion Power Chord”, I will not even notice them until weeks down the line, when it is too late to change them.

That is why I always try to release 1080p versions where available—because they correct mistakes in the first 720p batch, which are speedsubs.

Still, I think it’s important to acknowledge the mistakes I’ve made for the sake of transparency and to let the fandom know of wrong information I inadvertently circulated.

The upcoming BD releases of episodes 1-13 will go through a much more rigorous subbing process than my usual weekly episodes. For that reason, it may be a rather slow process of working on them, as I plan to have multiple eyes comb through the episodes before release. The BD release will not have a re-release, nor will it be possible to correct potential mistakes after release, so it needs to be the best version I can confidently put out.

I say this because episodes 12 and 13 in particular were extremely rough in terms of translation, as it was my first foray into fansubbing. This means the existing scripts for them may be completely re-translated or re-worked in the BD release, leading to some inconsistencies of future episode’s subs (particularly those past episode 14). If I can ever get the 2nd Blu-Ray set, these will also, of course, be addressed there.

For full transparency, and going forward, there will be some changes to how certain things are phrased, worded, or translated.

YGOrg will always take priority in terms of card name translations. Previously, I played a little loose with my own interpretations and having some fun with puns, but going forward this is now a hard rule. If they translate a card name a certain way, I will use their translation for the sake of consistency. This means no more instances of things like “Kill-Lure Bait Ball” or “Washbuckler” (though they were fun, it became confusing).

BD-specific: I will also try to match information with stuff on Yugipedia. This is BD-specific because weekly speedsubs may come out faster than info on Yugipedia, so there will always be some inconsistency there. However, for the BD, things like “Beastgear World - Trike Fox” will become “Trike Fox of the Beast Gear World”, and other such changes.

Also BD-specific: 2 subtitle tracks! One will use official spellings of names, like Ohdo Yuga, while the other will use transliterations, like Oudou Yuuga (as I usually do). On Luke/Rook - not sure what to do yet. I don’t want to make 3-4 different tracks for official and transliteration, each with Luke/Rook options. Both tracks may use Luke just for my sanity. No change for weekly releases, however; those will always use transliterations.

Weekly episode titles will always follow DMC’s translations of the summaries beforehand. This was also a loose rule before as I always tried to do this unless I wanted to have some fun with puns or references. This will now become a hard rule.

Regarding BD release timelines, while I don’t have a “date-by-date” planned out, I do expect to be done by the second or third week of December. This may change or be delayed, but I will always announce here ahead of time. The second BD comes out in January, so I want to be sure to finish before then, as January and February tend to be busier months for me (fun fact: despite living in the US, neither my family or I celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas, so these two months are prime time for getting things done).

As a Native American, who enjoyed Aquaman, and who also lived in Maine (ya know, where his father’s lighthouse is) I’ve not known Maine to be a)cultrally diverse, and b)to have Polynesian heritages. (i am not saying that no pacific islanders live in Maine, but want to add this pov as a possibility) wouldnt it make more sense to assume that as a POC in this movie, Arthur would’ve been Native American- Particularly of either Penobscot or Passamaquody descent since those are the brown people that live there? As a Penobscot myself, thats where my mind was led to wander.

Well, Temuera Morrison is Māori & Momoa is Kānaka; both their characters have tattoos copying motifs in Momoa's actual ink celebrating his family's shark 'aumākua (the repeating triangle pattern); and both characters performed a honi / hongi at one point.

It was subtle if you weren't looking for it, and I wish it had been made explicit in the script or dialogue itself that they were specifically Pasifika— and not to sound like a broken record, but god knows there was plenty enough "half-breed mongrel mutt" bullshit thrown around by white characters to be uncomfortable & aware that Arthur Curry isn't "pure" enough for his white (Atlantean) side of the family, but the script never even has him defend himself or his father from that.

My point being that narratively, there's very little to go off of there in determining Arthur's human ethnic background in writing, because the script treats race as a bludgeon for ham-fisted awkward "morals" about mixed kids saving the world* or ending racism or whatever without ever going far enough beyond that superficiality to get into what that interspecies and racial mixedness even is or entails��

* (Bonus with the Atlanteans being white & their war against the surface world being awkwardly entwined with arguments against pollution & a violent colonial presence in the seas— an almost stock Angry Indian plot— vs. Arthur Curry as the face of both "mixed kids bringing harmony to a segregated world" / "needing to see Both Points Of View racism" and, like, the representation of those colonizers… complete with Disney John Smith-esque exposition about "Not All Humans" or whatever… the script forces you to empathize with humanity without ever addressing the pollution angles or, like, that there are absolutely way too many warships, etc., and negate that label of colonizer because Momoa is brown and the Atlanteans are lily-white. The story tried to remix jargon from real-life indigenous political issues and ham-fisted racial analogies that barely work as-is while flipping those racial scripts, and the end effect is just baffling. Because that's not how any of this actually works in the real world.)

And while Momoa has some mainlander Native heritage from his mom's side of the family irl, he's obviously not from the Northeast nor does he have tribal affiliations in the region (iirc he's expressed concerns over his BQ, but his mother's mixed white & Pawnee a few generations back or something?)… and between the seven actors portraying Arthur Curry throughout his life— Tainui & Tamor Kirkwood, Denzel Quirke, Kaan Guldur, Otis Dhanji, and Kekoa Kekumano, plus Momoa— emphasis really seemed to be on casting local Polynesian kids on-location in Australia. Between that, Morrison, and those context clues I mentioned above, on top of generally not assuming an actor is playing outside their race until or unless directly informed otherwise, I wouldn't peg those characters & certainly not those performers as anything but Pasifika.

I get it, I'm from Massachusetts, and seeing the lighthouse and Boston Aquarium scenes gave me pause, because New England can be a… weird place, demographically and in general. Like, story-wise, I had a lot of unresolved questions about Aquaman's parents. But I'm also Osage, Creek-Seminole, and Wayúu (among other stuff), which isn't your typical New England stock, either. I wouldn't assume he's local (in a mainlander "local as in from the area" sense— not, like, kama'aina local-local) as the path of least resistance here, and tbh, I wouldn't give the writers credit for the indigenous imagery that made it to the film as it is, let alone assume they did enough research to make the indigenous rep & film setting make sense or work together.
