can ppl let others have time to have fun for a while without reminding them of awful shit going on, insisting they "cant forget" that these things are happening. as if just going around being silly and enjoying yourself for a while means youre ignoring the suffering of the whole world 🙄

look I get being uncomfortable with shipping the owners and pets together in wonderful precure, but when you look at the way the anime frames at least mayu and yuki’s relationship…it is, really really not that hard to see why people ship the two.

one of life's special consuming yet pointless games is encountering a tumblr user/substack youve never seen before and trying to figure out if it's secretly one of p3yton th0mxs's writing buddies from that knockoff of the toast they ran for a year, or if it's an unrelated person with the same habit of repeating danny lavery bits about 30 rock as broadly known fact who just also loves lists of kind of gayish 90s movies and what we might call "plausible deniability public-facing rpf"

this was the best scene thus far i am gonna go ahead and put that out there first
the way the entire world faded out around them to the point they didn't even notice the taxi pulled up until the driver had to say something
but also the way that jaewon seems so comfortable doing this type of thing where he fixes/helps jihyun pull his backpack up and PULLS (not lightly either) jihyun closer to him just to what??? stare into his eyes???
he seems somewhat comfortable initiating this but as soon as things get "too real" he seems to get overwhelmed. when jihyun was helping him draw and moved closer to jaewon he had to back away from the situation and make an excuse to get jihyun to go away for a second. this is one of the only times jihyun has initiated this type of contact himself also, other than maybe ep. 1 where he passes the lighter.
(which we saw how jaewon just stood there stunned for a while lmao) i think it's worth noting that maybe jaewon feels more in control even though it's kinda like he almost can't help himself but initiate this type of thing but also when jihyun kinda shows interest on his part jaewon is like hey woah woah woah..........like you can see the world fading away from him in his eyes when these moments happen or when he looks at jihyun.
it seems like jaewon has this own little world with jihyun like in this moment, he basically completely forgets the world is moving around them and other people exist. it's not like he's the character saying "oh but people will see us." he doesn't even seem to consider that really, because they're not even there? which goes back to how jaewon has these superficial relationships with people around him in his daily life.
then he gets snatched back, like it is a visible difference and moment when he gets pulled back into reality. and that is when he starts to pull himself back and kinda push jihyun away even. i would say most of jaewon's pressures seem internal because of all this, even though his "friends" definitely contribute to it. i don't think most of whatever is going on with him is about his friends or outsiders though because i don't think jaewon is even considering them at all? i don't mean in a selfish way. i talked about this briefly in the tags of the great post by this scholarly poster where jaewon always contradicts himself. because he is not being real with anyone including himself at the times we have seen him because that is his entire character and will be his character arc. pretty much everything i said in the tags was confirmed by these eps where he talks to the surf club president who seems to be his only friend he can be somewhat himself with and his therapist.
i mean that as frustrating as it is to watch jaewon's friends be shitty people......jaewon knows that too. but with jihyun we are seeing him put some type of effort into a relationship whereas the friendships he has... although it may be hard for him to be with jihyun because of whatever internal battles he has, it is probably harder for a character like jaewon to confront that everything else in his life is superficial and he's just been going along with it.
one, to confront that makes it real. if you just let it happen then it's whatever. but to tell someone to stop treating you badly even when you know they won't because the friendship isn't real, it's easier just to leave it as is. but also his character literally says it's his flaw, that he doesn't speak up or show his real self. but he also says that it is exhausting living like that so i suspect he's gonna blow up eventually. honestly when he confronted his friend in the bathroom i was like dang hope he bashes his head in the sink weak hero class style
jaewon even started his relationship with jihyun like this too. everything was oh i'm a senior that will be your friend, call me when you don't even have my number....he's stuck between this performance and persona he has vs real genuine interest in someone. when it gets in that grey area in between his persona (especially when he's around others) and how he really feels and what he really wants these contradictions occur. it's easier to play things off in jest too than admit something is real to you. he probably doesn't even know how to navigate that honestly, when he's been playing this part and just letting things happen to and around him. (he also says that the military was an escape for him since he didn't have to deal with all this). i wonder if his relationship with his ex was a performance as well. just to be "normal" amongst his friends and peers, but who knows.
i am willing to bet the closest we get to jaewon's "real" self is when he is with jihyun and even then it is only glimpses so far. that and when he is truly alone like we saw in the early eps but those moments are few and far between. i am glad he is in therapy lol because that seems like a lot for jihyun but also for jaewon too. i am also willing to bet that this will be a central conflict/plot point when jaewon stops performing and loses pretty much everything he has. and who stays will be who truly cares for him and confronting that is scary as hell. either that or something will happen with the friend or his ex where he will be forced to (probably his relationship with jihyun but at this point everything is fake around him except his relationship with the surf president, but even with her i don't know if he thinks he can be completely honest), and he's gonna react badly and i can't blame him

"End of era. I can't make retrospective statements. It's why I've been filming this documentary for 12 years. Every single time a statement ends, the idea to follow that with a retrospective statement, something that looks back, something that is celebratory of a previous thing, blargh, it makes me wanna crawl out of my skin, I hate it. I just wanna go forward. This is the only record where I do look back a little bit. I mean, I think the only time I specifically do it is in 'Guys'. 'The moment that we started a band, was the best thing that ever happened'. It's quite sad. It was also one for the homies, you know. I wanted to write a love song for friends. People don't have that very much. I love that idea. And even if it was the fact that going through the DNA of who we were, to make this record, there's so much reference to old emo core, or house music that we were growing up with. It feels like we went right back. We went and found all the old photos, you know, of where we came from, is almost how it felt to make this record. When I made this record, I was like, '[beep], this is the last 1975 record, for ages'. Not the last 1975 record, but this is definitely us stopping making music for a bit. There's essentially been lots of different album out, for this record. We live in a world of, you know, iTunes uploads six months before the record comes out. Someone's like, 'we needed a piece of artwork,' and I keep going, 'Okay, 'I'll give you our piece of artwork'. The artwork changed every week. The artwork now is basically the most minimal version, example, of what we've had, and it's all been based on texture, and the concept of wabi-sabi. The record's been about deconstruction. The record feels like it should be just in a paper bag. I wanted to steal The Durutti Column idea. The Durutti Column, one of my favorite bands of all time, they made one record, the vinyl cover was sandpaper, so it destroyed any record that it was next to. I mean, oh my God, how [beep] badass is that shit? That is so my vibe. I wish that I had of done it, but the thing is I love that idea so much that I couldn't have passed it off as my own. I grew up in punk and hardcore. The most punk person that I have ever met in my life is Greta Thunberg. She gave me a sense of hope, do you know what I mean? We're all kind of wallowing in nihilism, and what's the point? And when you meet her, she don't give you a pat on the back, I'll tell you that much, but she [beep] means what she's talking about. We were talking about the Sega Mega Drive startup sound of The 1975, and we were talking about how that happens every time, and we were like, 'What is the most modern version of that?' And then the conversation became, 'Well, what is the most modern thing? What is the most modern statement?' And it was Greta Thunberg, we realized, we get Greta Thunberg to sing it. 'We are facing a disaster of unspoken sufferings for enormous amounts of people'. That idea was obviously exciting, immediately. Using that platform is a great thing to do, and it's also creatively exciting. The moment she's deemed, she's one of the most important figures of our generation, but I really like the idea of formally encapsulating that in a piece of music that therefore exists in pop culture, in the way that music does, and goes on a record. You know, no one's gonna find a tweet about Greta Thunberg in the rubble, in a thousand years, do you know what I mean? But if in a thousand years they found that record, that would move somebody in a thousand years, who finds that in the rubble."

Song of the Day #21:
'I, Carrion' by Hozier (released 2023).
youtube
I feel lighter than I have in so much time
I've crossed the border line of weightless
One deep breath out from the sky
I've reached a rarer height now that I can confirm
All our weight is just a burden offered to us by the world
Track #5 on 'Unreal Unearth'. (Definitely just thought the album was 'Unreal Earth' this entire time; can't decide which one I like better: I love the sort of surreal disassociation with Hozier's title and I like the alien sentiment that comes with my misinterpretation. What do you prefer?)
Fun fact: The entire album was largely inspired by 'Dante's Inferno'! Which is really freaking cool. This was largely created during Quarantine, and Hozier wanted to do a subtle nod to the pandemic without really making the music about that at all. The album itself is actually a progression of the nine circles of Hell, and you can follow that from the 'darkness of opening track "De Selby (Part 1)" to the breakthrough of closer "First Light"'*. The album has many mythological references beyond this, however. This song in particular was inspired by the legend of 'Icarus and Daedalus' (which I accidentally misspelled as 'Deadalus' at first which feels way funnier than it should be).
They are father and son, trapped in the labyrinth that Daedalus himself built (to hold the minotaur: half man, half bull). In order to escape, they build wings out of bird feathers and wax. He warns Icarus not to fly too close to the sun as his wings will melt, but once the boy starts flying, he finds himself drawn to the sun with such euphoria that he cannot stop himself from flying towards it, heedless of his father's calls. The sun melts his wings and he falls into the ocean. (Note: uhhh, don't try this at home kids.)
The song, according to Hozier, is inspired by that story and intermingled with a love story. He mentions the idea that sometimes there is joy so strong that it is worth the fall, and that plays out clearly in this song.
(Daeadalus was not exactly theeeee greatest fellow ever, fun fact. He tried to murder his sister's kid because the boy showed signs of great ingenuity (like inventing the potter's wheel! I owe him one) so he decided to do the obvious thing annddd... push him off of a high tower; Athena intervened (she is kind of a hoe for intellect- I never uttered these words) and turned the boy into a partridge in midair. To this day, partridges do not nest in high places and tend to stay on the ground unless necessary. They're also adorable, but that's unrelated.)
Tumblr media
They're just so...flomphy!!
Personal blurb: Okay so, I'll be honest. I was in, shall we say, an altered state of mind when I first heard this song. And when the lines 'I do not have wings love, I never will' came on, I felt transported. At some point, I will write a short story about those lines, because good golly. I don't like a lot of Hozier's music, but he has grown on me, for the way he intertwines literature with lyrics. I may or may not have written an eight paged paper analysing 'Take Me To Church' for English class, so he passes muster at least a little. 😋
I love this song. I love the concept that sometimes it's worthwhile to burn your hand on the flame. And there's this- there's this space of limbo after an impulsive decision, where I'm floating in the middle of the choice and all I have to do is just be and breathe and let the wind take me. Of course, then I realise: hey, I had no money for that pot of tea (but goodness was it delicious and peaceful) also scaling that mountain is absolute garbage for your back (but my my wasn't the crisp breeze glorious) oh and don't you worry because leaving your phone behind and wandering into a forest for seven hours with a book and a bottle of water (stay hydrated kids) surely will have no negative impact and certainly not 83 missed calls and a group of villagers with pitchforks and torches coming after you (but wasn't it worth for the calm you are able to greet them from).
My friend told me 'life is for the living' and I love that. (But don't forget your water bottle. Hydrate or die-drate, birch.)
And no. Not every impulsive decision is going to be worth it, or a good idea. But sometimes we just need to cast the weight aside and... fly a little, you know?
P.S. My darling sister just reminded me that this song is very 'Good Omens' coded and-
You know what. I'm embracing it. It absolutely is. Come nerd out with me.
Hiii Smallsssss. This is not an invitation to catapult your body up the nearest cliff and then not call me. 😋
Because then I would be left with a...cliffhanger! (Might anyway, literally, if you call me, hanging from a cliff.)
Double P.S. I have been made aware of the possibility of tagging individuals that are fabulous enough to have a Tumblr, so...*drumroll please* @hozierofficial hello and thank you for your humanity.

He's a skeptic. He takes terrible care of himself. He has dark hair. He's generally disliked among his peers. He's got a lover with glasses. Said lover commits crime. He ALSO commits crime. They make a grand journey together. One of them betrays the other. He's misunderstood, but also did bad things. He's trying though. He was used by a person of higher authority. He lived in a basement for weeks/months.
I didn't say his name, but you thought of him instantly, didn't you?
Was I talking about Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London?
Or was I talking about Varian, Royal Engineer of Corona, from Tangled the Series?

Misha talks so fondly and softly about cas. all the appreciation and love we have for the angel he does too.
and I hate it when people take his credit away. castiel is an amazing character and Misha put his heart in him. Cas is so relatable because misha played him that way, the three episode role had a twelve years arc because of Him
even I don't agree with all the opinions misha has about cas, I have few different headcannons and my own versions, so do many other people and so does Misha. everyone has a right to have an opinion, Misha even more than us.I have seen people right nasty things because they don't like the approach Misha had in his mind while a scene. which is, I don't know why people think they have a say in it
you have bolgs based on that character, you use for art for edits and for your ships and then you can't take the credit away from the actor
J2 get away with setting cannon about their characters, but if it comes to Misha and castirl its suddenly a knife fight, to a point where Misha stopped talking about his opinions.
I love Castiel and I love Misha and there is soo much hate against them, it effects me.
I agree its almost immposible to agree with everything someone says or does and I know that no one is all good/flawless but just don't suddenly turn someone into a villian just because you don't agree with one of their opinions or they misspoke once.
and also neither Misha or Cas have done anything worng.

It was raining again.
Furina looked out, face slightly scrunched as she stared down the droplets that trickled down the window. With the downpour steady and skies cast grey, the weather seemed adamant to be here for a while. With a huff, she retreated, leaning back on her seat.
‘Whatever made mon nounours so sad? Hmm…’ Murmuring to herself, she reached for a rose pink macaroon from her tray, before freezing.
Oh dear. Was it the trial?
In a daze, she stood up, pacing around the room.
The previous trial that morning… ah, right. The snobbish tourist. A Snezhnayan newcomer was charged with the crime of disrespecting a Melusine. Obviously the tourist has was charged guilty, but it seems to have taken quite a bit from the Iudex.
Well it wouldn’t be too off-brand for Neuvi, Furina thought. He was quite the sensitive soul underneath the aloof exterior. He cared a great deal for the people, especially the Melusines. And he did have a habit of crying after each case.
But we were making progress! A stray thread of her mind cried out, one she guiltily agreed to. The rain was something that she had tried to help out with Neuvi, and they were on a roll with a month! That was the longest streak they’ve had so far.
Furina furrowed a brow in worry. Then again, she wasn’t much help in that case, was she? Of course, she had played down with the usual theatrics, but they were more subdued. Perhaps her fear of the Fatui came to her, especially with the Knave due for a visit.
A small yelp came out as her hands came to her cheeks.
Oh dear.
She didn’t help him at all! Was this why? No one can no for sure, but shame rose within her.
This won’t do at all. Yes, she must do something. For Neuvilette.
For mon chéri.
With newfound determination, she snatched the macaroon and shoved it to her mouth as she hurried out the door.
○ ⸻ ☆ ⸻⸻ ○
Neuvillette looked up from his papers with a raised eyebrow. “I beg your pardon, Mon coeur? You want to… go to a café?”
Furina nodded, grinning eagerly. “Yes! The Traveler mentioned a new one by the city, and I heard the sweets are to die for!”
“Mon coeur…”
“Towers and towers of profiteroles…cakes, cupcakes, pastries galore…” She clasped her hands together as she sighed in an exaggerated swoon, basked in her own world, then startled the Iudex again as she suddenly leaned forward, slamming her fist on the table.
“You must come with me, Neuvi. You have to.”
Neuvillette let out a sigh. “Je suis désolé, mon coeur. I’m afraid my duties as the Iudex and the new Archon restrict me. Perhaps another time.”
If it was worth anything, the offer was tempting. However, the recent events made him realise how important his role is, especially after Furina’s retirement…
“Oh-ho-ho-ho!” She raised one white gloved hand to cover her laughter. Shifting her weight, the other black clothed one pointed towards her lover in a rehearsed fashion like all other performers. “You underestimate me, my dear Neuvi! I thought you’d say something like that, and so I prepared everything beforehand!”
Neuvillette watched with exasperated fondness as Furina paced around, revealing her ‘master plan’. As she explained how she quote-unquoted solved all of it, he couldn’t help but stare at her, warmth filling up his chest. Furina has always been caring, but he had been worried about her with all the events. To think that she’d go out of her way to dote on him.
Yes…all the more reason to work harder. He still had many more things he had to accomplish to ensure that—
His thoughts were put to a stop when he felt velvety fabric on the tip of his nose. Huh?
Blinking rapidly, he was forced to focus on the gloved finger, then to the girl in front of him who wore an impish smile.
“And last but not the least. Even if I have…retired from my duties as an Archon, I am still beloved by the Fontainians aaaand your superior— AS they still have not officially established it,” she hastily added, and yet her stance remained firm. “So…what do you say?”
“I…” Neuvillette faltered.
Given the consideration, time, and effort that she had clearly put into this, along with the fact that it seems Furina has also utilised a ‘puppy eye’ expression… it would be unbecoming to refuse such a grandiose offer.
“Alright, ma cheri,” he said at last, smiling softly.
Furina’s squeal ironically resolved his decision.
By the time they got out the building, the skies of Fontaine had already cleared. With the azure sky on the horizon, they went towards the cafe with bright spirits.
Of course, this innocent endeavour may end up with a few mishaps and perhaps a scandal, taking into account Furina’s record. But hey. It’s the thought that counts. Hopefully.
