Oh, it is very rare for me to actually have a character song. A ship song? Maybe. Generally songs that remind me of a fandom? Yeah. But that I have a song that fully goes to a character? I don't think I've ever had that.

When I was on my walk last night, Imagine Dragon's Believer came on and I nearly ran into a tree with the realization that this is a Stiles song, down to the very last detail.

Genuinely, every single line. But here's the ones that scream it the most to me.

Again, the Hales. The grace of the fire and the flames? The fact that Stiles' Hales lived through the fire, by its grace. The face of the future? The only Hales left, to shape the future of the Hale Pack.

Two days passed by in the blink of an eye... I did not have too many patients to tend to, and Shinano was a strangely peaceful place, unlike the seas. Though, the castle was too crowded.

How could a single family have so many relatives, I wondered... This new world was much unlike The Lands Of Endless Rain, as was the culture.

However, I had to do more than just prescribe medicines, tend to wounds and injuries, and remove arrows. Apparently, they had assumed that I was a great doctor skilled in Western medicine, who could teach much to one of the daughters of the elderly lord.

It was hectic, answering stupid questions humans always ask. Though, it was fun too, discussing poisons and poisonous herbs with her.

The night before Tsukiko's wedding, I was sitting outside, on a log in the garden, polishing my surgical knife, the one that I had been keeping for 'self-defence'. I was humming an old song about the dragons of the hills of my homeland, the endless drizzle and the lush green woods, when I was interrupted by muffled noises of sobbing.

I looked towards the direction of the noise, and saw a woman in a flowery kimono, weeping, on the branch of a tree.

At first, I thought it was a hallucination, but I climbed up the tree to get a better look.

The weeping woman looked at me. It was Tsukiko. I was puzzled.

Why was she so weak, like most humans?

"What troubles you, Tsukiko?" I asked her, giving her a half-hearted, forced smile.

"Nothing. It is none of your concern." She stopped sobbing, but it seemed that she was afraid of falling off the tree. It was interesting to watch.

"You're getting married tomorrow. You should be happy."

"I don't know what to think of it, honestly... Or even if it will go well for me."

"Why? I am certain that you have considerable knowledge of poison."

"That would be foolish."

It seemed that she was too morally upright. Unlike me...

"Why not use knowledge to improve your life? Besides, I don't know what benefit they shall get from this marriage."

"I don't know either. But I'm not poisoning anyone. It would be wrong."

"Why? What's wrong with applying your knowledge to real life?" My question was ignored, left unanswered.

"What are you doing with that surgical knife?" She seemed to be interested in the knife I was fiddling with.

"Oh, this? This is my 'self-defence knife'. Easy to carry and hide. Isn't she cute?" I said with a slight smile.

"You are a doctor, and yet, you are an odd one..."

"What does being a doctor have to do with any of this?"

It seemed that she did not like me, for she seemed to avoid answering my question.

After a few seconds of silence, Tsukiko looked at me and asked, "Are you not human? Please do not mind me asking this question again."

"Maybe? But does that matter?"

"It doesn't, but I'm curious."

"I'm a plant."

"What?" Tsukiko seemed to be in disbelief.

"Well, I was a plant... Then I died, and woke up here..."

"That is strange."

"Indeed, I have yet to meet any of my kind in this world..."

"Why are you a 'traveling doctor', then?"

"I wish to find a way back to where I am from."

It felt odd, having been honest for once in a long time...

"What is your homeland like?"

"Perhaps my words shall not be enough, yet it is a beautiful place... Much more beautiful than you can imagine. The skies are cloudy most of the time and it drizzles endlessly... Sometimes it rains heavily, and hails, but I do not have much to mention about those... And there are forests... Plenty of them."

"It is cold? You said it drizzles all the time..."

"Not so cold. Though, the higher hills may be a little windy and chilly."

"Do you have family?"

"I did, but they are no more."

"I am so sorry for asking." Tsukiko looked at me apologetically.

"No, I don't mind..."

She stayed silent, so I spoke... "Doesn't it feel terrible when someone you've known your whole life, destroys it completely?"

She looked at me silently, panic and worry in her eyes.

I had nothing else to say, so I let out a dry, maniacal laugh.

Perhaps, I had terrified the young lady. Without exchanging any words, I helped her climb down the branch and watched, as she walked away, towards the castle...

I was beginning to feel a strange... empathy... for the Lady Tsukiko...

She reminded me of when I was younger, and had to do things no one my age would have ever thought of doing, under the Queen's orders...

I let out a sigh, looking down at the knife in my hand, and tucked it into my obi.

Note: This was initially supposed to be about Motonari and Hydrangeas. I somehow ended up writing about Hydrangeas and Tsukiko starting their friendship. Guess my hand slipped. :v

Do songs that you listen often to ever remind you of characters or events from TPiaG or other stories you've written? It happens to me a lot with stuff from a story with OCs I've been helping my best friend make for years now.

Anyways, I'm asking about it because a song from my playlist reminded me a lot of Twig when I heard it while driving the other day. I had heard the song a million times before, but when I was thinking about the lyrics more they seemed to perfectly fit her internal conflict. The song was Blurt by Mega Mango if you want to take a listen.

The song is definitely just about dealing with mental health issues in general, but my PMD brainrot made it so that this was all I could think about after my epiphany. On that note, I want to offer you a congratulations for writing characters so well that they takes over my brain from time to time. I greatly appreciate it. :D

TPiaG doesn't have as many songs associated with it as my other projects because it hasn't been in development for several years— however, a vital part of my story development process is listening to music and imagining all the animatics of the characters and storyline that I want to make set to them. I do this for every project that sufficiently resonates with the blorbo frequency in my brain, and TPiaG is no exception! 

In terms of songs that embody specific events but aren't connected to a single character, I regularly listen to “Turn the Lights off” by Tally Hall and imagine a sort of extended theme song animation for if TPiaG were an animated series. There's so many lines that mention concepts important to the story!

Another animatic song, this one set in the Dark Future when Twig was human and starting her and Grovyle's quest to save the world, is "Running Out Of Time" by Lin-Manuel Miranda--- specifically the stretch spanning at roughly 1:10 to the end of the song. I have a very vivid image of Twig repeatedly shouting at Grovyle that they need to abscond ASAP as he frantically gathers supplies that spilled out of his bag while they're being pursued by the sableye, and then of Dusknoir being dismissed by a ferryman as he's interrogating him on which way they went.

I also still listen to “Let's Get This Over With” by They Might be Giants and imagine the rest of that one unfinished animatic I posted forever ago. That song isn't as blatantly connected to the events of the game, but there's a few anchor points in the lyrics I really enjoy.

A while ago I made an aro playlist that I keep adding songs on. It's on an account that I don't feel comfortable sharing but I thought I could tell y'all what songs are on it because aro songs are not easy to find. So here you go.

Note: this playlist is tailored to my personal music taste. It's mostly pop. I know there are more out there (Cavetown) but these are the songs I like to listen to. My family all share the Spotify account, but I'm for sure the one who uses it the most. Mainly because I tend to stay up until sunrise writing fanfic or scrolling Tumblr or reading fanfic while letting my playlist run in the background. ADHD babeyyyyyyyyy

But yeah so there's some of my family members mixed in here and I'll be doing the fun game of identifying where their influences show up in the wrapped!

Oh the scorecore is my brother. He made a whole playlist of Movie and Video Game scores he loves and he listens to it all the time. I know the Kung Fu Panda and Godzilla: King of the Monsters soundtracks so well (not complaining they slap).

Sorry for them all being different sizes. Anyway the middle orange one is for sure my brother's tastes mainly and the morning yellow one is probably largely him as well (though I do enjoy a good Energetic song that makes me writhe while grinning so it's not purely him). The last one is all me though and yeah mostly at night.

Goh fucking hell- I mean like I said my family of 4 all share this one account but still. I know a huge chunk of that was me, I-I'm looping Playing with Bad Luck by Set It Off right now and the other night I just sat there listening to Tainted Love for literal hours.

Oh this is for sure because the song is so fucking short. No way in hell this'd be winning if it was for the fact it's like 1 minute long and worked great for a couple night as Writing Background Music while I wrote Hobbit fics. If I had to guess my most looped after this I'd bet on an AJR song or a Set It Off or MCR one.

... Okay so I was almost right- I really listened to Lift Me Up that much? It is a fantastic Bagginshield song, granted, and just a fantastic song in general. I fucking love OneRepublic.

Cut Off is because of OFMD. I'm sorry that is exactly the song playing in Ed's head at the end of the finale.

This is the one that only uploads a single episode a year by the way. And between my brother and I we spent over half our entire podcast time on it. Granted, I did use it to fall asleep to for a couple of months there. After a few gos around learning the jokes in and out, it was a very reliable Background Noise to lull me to sleep and make sure my dreams didn't get too anxiety-inducing. Highly recommend it!

I can't tell if this is because my brother loves a lot of music from past decades or if it's because I almost exclusively listen to songs form the early 2000's or 2010's with the exception of a few select bands and songs. ... It's probably both, neither of us keep up with current music trends.

Update on whatever the heck I was thinking about last night:

I imagined a Sera event style that's like PaDZ related.

(my ramble about this idea and image description are below the break)

The name is based on Exa-Freeze Breath, which is the skill of Blue Skydragon, Nirai Kanai. The Z is the same one as in the PaDZ logo because why not? I tried recreating the font used for the letters in the PaDZ logo for the style name too. Her appearance is a combination of Blue Skydragon, Nirai Kanai and the human character Sara from the game.

The “no tail, too distracting” note next to what she'd look like in battle is a reference to Seiryu having a big dragon tail that isn't shown in her battle sprite in NOISZ Ignition.

Oh, and why Sera? Because she is the one who represents the element of Dragon out of the four elements in NOISZ (Dragon, Cat, Fire, and Sword).

So about the style? Here's what I imagined.

300PW (lv1) -> 600PW (lv44) HP B/TEC A/ATK AA/SPC D

Burst deals higher damage at higher combo and recharges with S-Radiants. [basically it adds a damage multiplier to Zone of Dominion based on combo and recharges after 50 S-Radiants. It's a weird style geared towards trying to high score with SS+, but I'm okay with the weirdness. Probably would be insanely jank and need a LOT of adjustment if it were real, obviously.]

[Get it? Because combo is such a central gameplay element of PaDZ and PaD as a whole that it'd make so much sense to implement as part of the style?]

"Club classics" | "B2b" - Charli XCX

Charli XCX kicked off the month by releasing two singles from her upcoming album brat. I wasn't super impressed with "Von dutch," but I'm loving these tracks a lot more. I just think the ideas presented on these two songs are much more interesting. "Club classics" pays tribute to frequent collaborators A.G. Cook (one of the song's producers) and SOPHIE both lyrically and musically. "B2b" is a lot more rhythmic, but those thumping synth lines keep it within the theme. These tracks have me a bit more excited for the album!

"86Sentra" - NxWorries

Knxwledge and Anderson .Paak's project NxWorries is coming back with a new album soon and while I'm not super familiar with the group's work, this is a pretty decent, quick single. It's very lowkey, almost too lowkey, but it's hard to expect a lot from a track that's under two minutes. Hopefully the full record has more fleshed out cuts than this!

What do you expect? Did Imagine Dragons get in gear and drop something cool and different? No, of course they didn't. It's the same flavor of bombastic electronic infused, vaguely rock cuts with big arena-ready choruses that feel incredibly empty. Music made for WWE promo videos. To their credit, they are one of the most consistent bands of the modern era ... consistently terrible that is!!! *cue laughter, applause, and fireworks*

"Dream State" - Kamasi Washington

The latest single from Kamasi Washington's upcoming album features flute contributions from André 3000. This might be my favorite single so far. André's flute pairs very well with Washington's saxophone throughout. The song starts slow, as the instruments mingle with one another. Like a feeling out stage, until the drums and bass kick in towards the middle and everything just slides into place perfectly. So excited to hear this full album.

Orville Peck and Willie Nelson have teamed up for a new version of Ned Sublette's iconic satire on cowboy stereotypes. Despite the song's suggestion that every gay man is inherently effeminate, I've always gotten a kick out of it. This new version is no different. Peck has been one of the shining stars in country music over the last few years and Willie Nelson is Willie Fucking Nelson. I think I prefer Nelson's solo version from 2006, but again, this is a lot of fun. Looking forward to Peck's new album!

I had no idea who Chappell Roan was before this month. She was all over my Twitter feed in the days leading up to and following this new single "Good Luck, Babe!" I definitely see what the hype is about. This is one of the most solid synthpop tracks I've heard in a while. Roan's energy is electric too. I feel like she's going to be an even bigger name within the next few years. Definitely need to go back and listen to her last album.

Another absolutely incredible single from Beth Gibbons before her new record drops next month. This one is a lot more avant-garde than the previous, but it rules so hard. The minimal instrumentation puts the focus on the multi-layered vocals and it's so cool. When the instrumentation ramps up it feels even more earned. Lives Outgrown is still one of my most anticipated albums of the year, even more so after this track.

I've been aware of GloRilla for a bit now, but I never actually heard one of her songs until now. This rules. "Wanna Be" is a sharp southern hip hop cut from two of the most charismatic artists in that field. Megan definitely has more starpower, at least right now, but they're on an equal playing field here. Both of them just sound ferocious. The beat is a little generic, but the performances carry the song to greatness. I definitely need to give this full album a listen sometime.

Another great new cut from WILLOW that shows her going into a more jazz pop direction!! I know I said last month when writing about "symptom of life" that I was being cautiously optimistic about what she doest next, but hearing this puts me at ease just a bit. Not completely, there will probably be some horrible collab with someone in the near future, but I'm at least extremely looking forward to Empathogen. I loved a lot of her rockier tracks over the last few years, but the singles leading up to this album show an artist at the top of their game thus far.

"Illusion" - Dua Lipa

A lot of my criticisms of the recent Dua Lipa singles unfortunately apply to "Illusion" as well. These are competently crafted pop tracks, but they leave me feeling so hollow. I don't wanna dance, sing along, I'm just so uninvested. She just has barely any presence on these tracks. Radical Optimism is just around the corner and I'm worried that I'm gonna be severely disappointed by it.

I haven't been the biggest Ken Carson fan in recent years, but I heard this new single getting some buzz so I decided to give it a shot. I definitely didn't hate it, but I'm not in love with it either. The beat here is really cool, but Carson just doesn't bring the heat. It's like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.

"Espresso" - Sabrina Carpenter

I wish I could say I'm on the Sabrina Carpenter train, but I'm just very underwhelmed by everything I've heard. This is a sleek pop cut with disco leanings, but it's almost like too sleek. Everything down to Carpenter's vocals is just so pristine. I do like the hook though, it's pretty catchy. I just wish there was a bit more punch to it, could've been so much better!!

"DBZ" - Your Old Droog, Method Man & Denzel Curry

We got an all-star cut from Your Old Droog, Method Man, and Denzel Curry with a beat by Madlib. Yeah, this is pretty good. It feels like a cheat code, like yeah of course this rocks. Droog's verse is pretty strong, but out of everyone here I'm the least familiar with his catalogue. Method Man's verse rules, he brings that classic flavor to the track that Lib's beat calls for. Curry rocks this too. Not a gamechanger track or anything, but this is definitely a worthwhile track.

"David Byrne Does Hard Times" - Paramore & David Byrne

David Byrne returns the favor to Paramore for their cover of "Burning Down the House" with his own version of the band's smash hit "Hard Times." He strips back the instrumentation just a bit, really the energy on the whole, but it works decently well. The bridge towards the end here is where this song really hits. Also that saxophone throughout is such a nice touch. It's just a fun little cover, doesn't outdo the original, but it's nice to see a legend like Byrne tipping his cap to them.

"Push Ups" - Drake

Oh lord, the great rap beef of April 2024. I touched on it briefly when I talked about Kendrick Lamar's verse on "Like That" from the Future & Metro Boomin album from last month, but it really ramped up this month. J. Cole had a sheepish, pathetic diss towards Kendrick meanwhile Drake somehow brought way more fire. It's still just funny to see Drake throw stones at anyone considering he has one of the biggest glass houses of all time. He's taking a break from gambling streams to make diss tracks, he's just such a funny character.

"What Happened to You, Son?" - Belle and Sebastian

I was really underwhelmed by Belle and Sebastian's previous album, but I enjoy this single more than anything on that record for sure. It's still got some unremarkable instrumentation and some clunky verses, but it's a fun listen. There's some witty lyrics here and I guess it's nice to hear them still rolling along, but I'll probably just stick with If You're Feeling Sinister.

"Only One" - Cassandra Jenkins

A few years ago I remember listening to Cassandra Jenkins' last album An Overview on Phenomenal Nature on a whim, I thought it was ok! It hasn't been in my regular rotation, but I was reminded of Jenkins because of this new single and the announcement of her next album. This is a really tasteful track with gorgeous melodies and a vocal performance that sounds heavenly. This new album is certainly on my radar now and I'm definitely gonna go back and listen to her last album again.

"Starburster" - Fontaines D.C.

Oh this track fucking rules. Fontaines D.C. have been on my radar for a bit, but I never gave them a listen until now. I definitely need to familiarize myself with their stuff because "Starburster" is amazing. A great mixture of post-punk, rap rock, and dance music. A lot of those sounds feel opposed, but they come together so nicely here. This rules, I'm definitely gonna keep my eye on them leading up to this new album coming up.

"Wake Up" - Backxwash

Backxwash has been making some of the most interesting industrial hip hop and horrorcore of the last few years. This new single "Wake Up" is a great example of that. The production is so atmospheric, making way for her strained, exasperated delivery. It gives the track such a distinct energy. The midway point of the track gives all focus to the fuzzy beat before leading into an insane beat switch. I've never heard her on a beat like this before, but she absolutely kills it. Great track!

"Right, Wrong or Ready" - Kara Jackson

Kara Jackson dropped a cover of Karen Dalton's "Right, Wrong or Ready" this month and it's absolutely gorgeous. I wasn't aware of the original before this, but I think I prefer this cover to the original. Gorgeous chamber folk instrumentation and Jackson's vocals are, as to be expected, sublime. One of those songs that makes you appreciate just how beautiful music can be. I loved Jackson's last record and I'm hoping we get more new music from her soon, but I'll be bumping this one for a while.

"Rewilding" - Thurston Moore

While I'm a little disappointed this new Thurston Moore single released for Earth Day isn't a detour into experimental hip hop like Kim Gordon's recent music, "Rewilding" is a pretty decent slacker rock cut with some noisier moments. The instrumentation on here leans pretty tame, but it's still a cool listen. I'm not super familiar with Moore's solo work and I'm not sure when or if I'll get around to it. Unfortunately, this single isn't really pushing me to familiarize myself with it.

"Like I Say (I runaway) - Nilüfer Yanya

Nilüfer Yanya's 2022 album PAINLESS really took me by surprise. It's been a while since I revisited it, but it was in my rotation a pretty decent amount that year. This return single is really strong. I love the production here, it sounds washed out in the coolest way possible. The melodies are also really strong. I'm hoping we get an album announcement in the coming months, I'll certainly be listening!

"euphoria" - Kendrick Lamar

Not long after I initially published this post, Kendrick Lamar fired back at Drake's diss in a 6 minute track that has a killer beat switch and Lamar fully embracing being a hater. I have no dog in this fight, but for what it's worth, Kendrick easily looks the best coming out of this. His pen game is on another level, especially when compared to Drake (and Cole too, although his response was so uninteresting he's basically a non-factor at this point). Sometimes his delivery here gets a little too lyrical spiritual miracle, but it's still a fun track.

Can we stop pretending Namjoon is a horrible person who needs to be canceled??? and, worse, that I'm racist for still liking him??? All he did was share a Frank Ocean song. Do I think he should have? probably not, it wasn't the most culturally sensitive thing he's ever done, but he has a history of respecting people and learning from his mistakes. Do I think Frank Ocean himself is islamophobic? Fuck if I know, that's not my place to say. Bad Religion was, from what i've read, about his experience with religion as a a bisexual man. As someone who has some level of religious trauma myself, I can say being uncomfortable with the way religion treats certain groups of people is not the same as being against a certain religion. I hate the way Christianity as a whole treats gay people. I hate the way Christianity has made me feel. I do not hate Christianity or Christians. Writing about the way religion has made me feel does not mean I hate Christianity or Christians. Listening to music about the way religion made them feel does not mean I hate Christianity or Christians. (I am using Christianity as an example because its what my trauma is related to).

No, I don't know if Frank Ocean is islamophobic. If he is, then fuck him, but that's honestly irrelevent here. I cannot bring myself to believe that Namjoon is islamophobic because he shared a Frank Ocean song. Even if Frank Ocean is, that doesn't make Namjoon--Girls Just Want To Have Fun is incredibly misogynistic, but I'm not gonna judge someone for listening to it. Hell, I'll jam out to it myself, and tbh I can't name a single girl who won't.

yeah, Namjoon probably shouldn't have shared the song. But in the grand scale of things, it is SUCH A MINOR ISSUE. He isn't fucking G-Dragon, or Zico, with their blatant racism. He isn't fucking Seungri (who, by the way, is out of prison, not that anyone's talking about that), or Hyuna, who's dating JUNG JOON YOUNG (Seungri and Jung Joon Young were the two people behind the biggest part of the Burning Sun scandal, for those of you who don't recognize the names off the top of your head). Strictly talking about islamophobia, there's the whole damn israel palestine situation. There are so many other things to be angry about, and we've settled on this one.

So far I think the anime and manga for yuukoku no moriarty are really similar! i don't feel like anything was really left out. the manga does have some extra stuff, but i think the anime got some ova's or something, but i haven't been able to get my hands on them yet.

i am actually fairly new to anime. like i've always been aware of it, i was (still am) a huge geek in public school, so i had heard about naruto and sailor moon back in the early 2010s, but i had no way of watching it myself. my partner is also really into anime, so i've been in the same room when they've watched things, but i didn't personally get into it until a little over a year ago! it was with boku no hero, so that's probably more cliche than death note at this point😂😭

A Thing Of Poetry

Your cheeks flush as reality begins to settle around you, adrenaline leaving your senses far more alert than you'd like. The chill of the ocean breeze does little to cool your skin, let alone soothe your ego, and it all seems a terrible joke that despite having a Time Lord by your side, you're incapable of erasing this moment from history.

You'd need only travel a few minutes into the past, just enough to create a distraction, some sort of loud noise that would send you both back to his blue box, or out exploring beyond the sands. It wouldn't be anything serious, not in the big scheme of things. Of course, there was always the chance that your past self would run into your current self and tear a hole in the fabric of space and time, which admittedly seemed rather an extreme risk for what essentially amounted to an embarrassment. It's also exactly why the Doctor would never allow it, and it isn't as if you could fly the Tardis without him. Not that you would want to. You can't imagine one without the other.

No, the only thing you truly want right now is for this unbearable, almost unbelievable silence to end. He's the Doctor, your Doctor, who not a few hours ago managed to talk for ten minutes straight without so much as taking a breath. The same man who once explained water in such a way that by the end of it, even the poor fish was confused. The Time Lord who has a clever, if not somewhat silly reply to everything and everyone in the whole of the universe, and yet, here and now, seems incapable of uttering a single word.

You've done the impossible in rendering him speechless, and you're not entirely sure how to feel about it. Unsettled seems a good word. Awkward, chastened, terrified, the list goes ever on, but you're trying not to dwell on it too much. Instead, you attempt to refocus your attentions by observing him, hoping to discern something of an understanding from his movements.

He stares at you with wide eyes, unreadable save for the obvious shock. His long lashes continue to flutter the way they always do when excited or nervous, and his fingers are trailing along his bottom lip as if examining a precious artifact.

You wonder if you've made a terrible mistake.

His gaze begins to wander, drifting from yours to the midnight sea stretched before you. At the end of a trying day and a few near misses, he'd asked to take you here, a moonlit beach at the edge of the world. A world, he said, where dragons once roamed. Your face lit up at the mere mention.

I knew you'd love it.

You'd nestled yourselves in the sand, just a little distance from the incoming tide. You hadn't any blankets or towels, only a knit jumper and his body heat to keep you warm. It had been, by all accounts, the perfect evening.

It might have stayed that way.

You never should have kissed him.

Your Doctor lets out a deep sigh, a sound so uncertain, you think your heart might break. You can't bear the silence a minute longer.

"I'm sorry," you choke as you haul yourself to your feet, all but running back to the Tardis.

"Y/n," he murmurs. His voice is soft and painfully kind, enough to make you consider turning back. You can't help but imagine the way he'd wrap his arms around you, holding you tightly as he kissed the top of your head, comforting and consoling you until the dawn. All you want is to snuggle into him, but you're already fighting back tears, and it doesn't seem fair to let the Doctor see you cry.

You force yourself to keep going. He says your name again, louder this time as he shuffles about the sand. You hear him curse (his idea of cursing, anyway) as he slips, unable to get a firm footing, but you keep your eyes fixed straight ahead as you trudge across the beach. Knowing his coordination, or lack thereof, you have a few minutes before he catches up with you.

You find yourself trembling as you fling yourself into the Tardis, propping the door shut behind you. She rumbles, seeming to sense your distress.

"I'm alright," you mumble, burying your face in your hands. "I'll be alright."

The Tardis lets out a low groan.

"I know," you heave a sigh. "I don't buy it, either."

You run your hand along the rails as you make your way towards the stairs. You plan on going straight to bed, but you've not made it two steps into the hall before you find yourself on the other side of the console.

You swear you can hear crickets chirping as you glance around. Did you take a wrong turn? You must've done.

You give your head a good shake before returning to the stairs, taking them two at a time and heading to your right. You end up exactly where you were a few seconds ago, steps away from the Tardis console, in full view of the doors.

"Oh, god, no." Your voice is little more than a whine. Even to your own ears, you sound like a child, but you can't bring yourself to care. "No, no, no, don't do this to me," you plead with the ship, panicking as you hear the Doctor's voice getting closer.

You run up the stairs again, though you don't know why you bother. The Tardis keeps putting you back in the console room, determined for you to be there when the Doctor arrives. Unfortunately for the both of you, you're too stubborn to simply give in.

"You're just like him, you know," you grumble as you head up the stairs, yet again. "Neither of you play fair."

The Tardis hums sympathetically. Where do you think he learned it from?

You snort as you keep walking. The whole thing becomes somewhat soothing - like walking in a circle without getting dizzy. That's how he finds you, arguing with his old girl while walking in a loop, disappearing up the stairs before reappearing seconds later on the other side.

You're too caught up in your own whirlwind of frustrations to notice the Doctor, who's currently leaning against one of the rails and smiling something proud.

Look at you.

Stomping around the Tardis, arguing with her as if she were your own, refusing to surrender despite knowing you can't possibly win...right now, you look a little less human and a little more Time Lord.

Though he tries to suppress it, you can't help but hear his giggle. You turn on your heel with a glare, staring him down. "What?" You flinch at the venom in your voice, but it doesn't seem to fluster him in the least. He just keeps on beaming.

"Oh, nothing, nothing at all," he chuckles as he rubs his hands together, a cheeky glint in his eye. "Just reminding me of meself."

You cross your arms. "Oh, am I?"

The Tardis gives another little rumble, which the Doctor matches in turn. "Yes," he smirks, straightening his bow tie. "Yes, you are."

You try desperately to cling to your anger, an ire so warm it's nearly burned away even the deepest of insecurities, but it doesn't stand a chance against your Doctor. His lopsided grin is already beginning to quell your irritation, leaving you more vulnerable than you'd like. Anxiety trembles in your core while shame coils itself around your heart and in an instant, you remember why you're stuck in this predicament in the first place.

You never should have kissed him.

You chew at the inside of your cheek, offering him a small smile you hope looks sincere. Of course, it doesn't help that you can barely meet his gaze.

In four long strides, he's made his way over to you, eyes alert and brows furrowed. "Something's wrong." His voice is low, a slight growl in the back of his throat the way there always is when he's serious.

You shake your head. "I'm fine."

"No, you're not," he mutters, looking you up and down as if you're something to be analyzed, searching for a crack in the surface. Your Doctor, always looking for some physical wound, some stretch of skin easily mended. You feel exposed when his cheeks flush, realization dawning on his features.

"Oh."

You manage a nod, gulping down a bit of tension. "Yeah."

"Oh, Y/n," he sighs as he leans in, closing his eyes and pressing his forehead against yours. His breath is warm on your skin, like a campfire beneath an autumn moon. If only you could stop thinking of his lips.

"I'm sorry," you mumble.

He pulls away just then, making you regret having said anything at all. "For what?"

He's looking at you with such concern, at once both gentle and steadfast. It certainly isn't a help to your poor heart, which is beating approximately five times faster than it should be. He's really going to make you say it, isn't he?

Your fingers are shaking as you run a hand through your hair, forcing yourself to look at your shoes, at the console, anywhere but his face. "I shouldn't have kissed you."

Kissed. Such a small word, a thing of poetry, and yet it feels like an awkward curse as it tumbles out of your mouth, tasting of something forbidden. You feel so tiny. So silly. You just wish you could disappear. You just wish he could say something to make it all better.

"Why?"

Well, that isn't what you had in mind.

You bounce on the balls of your feet, completely overwhelmed with nervous energy. "Why did I kiss you?"

"Why are you sorry?"

You perk up, daring to look at him as a little spark of hope begins to flutter in your chest. His brows are still furrowed, confusion etched on every line of his face, both endlessly ancient and unfathomably young. Such a beautiful contradiction, your Doctor. The way he's looking at you...

"I...your reaction," you stammer. "I thought you didn't like...I thought you didn't want..."

You trail off as he breaks into a grin, taking your face in both of his hands and again, you find yourself feeling tiny. This time, you don't mind it so much.

"Oh, Y/n." His voice is soft, almost a whisper. His thumb grazes your cheek, wiping away a fallen tear. "My silly, wondrous, Y/n."

You're about to say something, ask him a question, perhaps, but you never get the chance. His lips are already brushing against yours, immeasurably soft with a tender passion you had only ever dreamt of. Your breath catches itself in your throat as his long lashes tickle your skin, his grip on you tightening as he loses himself in a kiss filled with a lifetime of yearning.

You wrap your arms around his waist, pulling him close until his chest is against yours and you can feel his hearts, both beating almost as quickly as your own. You can't stop yourself from moaning into his mouth as he presses you up against the rails, no more than you can help the shiver down your spine when he echoes it back to you.

You find yourself trembling as he pulls away, admiring the slight blush that still lingers on his cheeks. "I've wanted to do that since the moment you first stumbled into my Tardis," he murmurs, offering a smile as sweet as it is mischievous. He sweeps his thumb across your lower lip, chuckling as you suppress another moan. "I never imagined you wanted the same."

"More than anything in the world," you admit, swallowing down a shaky breath.

He gives you a wink. "Which one?" God, he's sly.

You slide your hands down his chest, wrapping your fingers around his suspenders and giving them a playful snap. You could swear he growls in response. "All of them, Doctor. I want you more than all of them."

He takes one of your hands in his, eyes refusing to leave yours. He presses his lips against the soft skin of your wrist, gentle, and yet desperately possessive. "What are we waiting for?"

He slowly leads you around the console, drawing you nearer the stairs, but despite the fact that your desire is growing by the second, you can't ignore the nervousness in the pit of your stomach.

"Doctor..."

You curse your voice for wavering, wishing you could maintain any semblance of the confidence you felt a minute ago. If you're being entirely honest, part of you is terrified. Not of the Doctor, never of the Doctor, but of disappointing him. After all, you aren't as experienced as most humans, let alone a thousand year old Time Lord.

He needs only glance at your expression to see your apprehensiveness, and it doesn't take a moment for him to spring into action. The lust in his gaze is replaced with something softer as he strokes the back of your hand. "Y/n?" he asks, his voice overflowing with care.

"I...I haven't...well, you know how some people...you know, most people..."

His forehead is all scrunched up as he tries to make sense of your words. You can't blame him, of course, you can hardly make sense of them, yourself. You hadn't thought any of this out, but you're determined to get through to the end.

"I'm what you might consider," you continue, uncertainly, "well, that is to say that I'm not one to have participated in...you know, I've never..."

Mercifully, understanding flashes in the Doctor's eyes before you manage to butcher another sentence.

"Oh!"

"Yeah."

"I see." He runs a hand over his jaw, eyes darting about the console room as he contemplates. You start to curse yourself again, worrying you'd ruined it all. You shouldn't have said anything. Why did you always have to say something?

"Oi, you," he murmurs, kind but firm. "Stop that."

"What?"

"Getting lost in that head of yours." You nod sheepishly. He's right, seeing through your anxieties as he so often does.

"Doctor?" you ask, hesitantly. "I want this. I wasn't lying, earlier. I want this more than anything, and maybe I shouldn't have told you-"

"Oi," he interrupts, wagging his finger like the silly old man that he is. "What did I just say?"

"Get out of my own head."

"Exactly." He taps the end of your nose, making you smile and squirm. "I'm glad you told me. If this is what you want-"

It's your turn to interrupt. "It is."

He smiles and squeezes your hand. "Do you trust me?"

You don't even consider your answer. You've known it all along. "Always."

He winks and snaps his fingers. The Tardis dims her lights as music starts playing from the console. A song from your world, a song he knows you love more than anything. The lyrics always made you think of him.

He brings your hand to his lips as he bows, tipping an imaginary hat and beaming when it makes you giggle. He wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you close, his voice but a whisper in your ear as you dance in the heart of his ship.

"You're divine," he hums, kissing the base of your throat. Your hands slide into his hair as he lightly sucks the sensitive skin, cheeks flushed from the sensations as well as his words. You can feel him smiling as you shiver. "I want to show you."

"Show me, Doctor?" You're nearly breathless. "Show me what?"

He brings his lips back to yours, engulfing you in a kiss so longing, so endless, it cannot but threaten tears at the sheer romance of it all. It nearly shatters you when he breaks away, caressing your cheek as his green eyes, full of stars, pour into yours.

"I want to show you how brilliant you are," he murmurs. "I want to show you just how much I adore you."

You gaze up at him, lashes fluttering as you blush. The music seems quieter, somehow, and it's only when your eyes drift from the Doctor that you realize you're no longer in the console room.

The Tardis, it seems, transported the both of you to your bedroom. You can't help but giggle.

"Too right, old girl," he chuckles, looking up at the ceiling and giving her a salute. "Too right."

He takes off his jacket, draping it over a chair before shrugging off his suspenders. Next is his bow tie, which he slowly unravels and sets gently atop one of your shelves. He's undone two or three of his shirt buttons when you still his hands with yours.

His eyes are twinkling as you make your way down to the last, brushing aside the fabric to run your fingers along his chest. It's his breath that shakes, now, as you explore further, hands toying with the zip of his trousers.

He swallows a moan as he stops you. As much as he wants to know what your hands would feel like around him, it can wait. This night is about you.

With a kiss that leaves you trembling, he begins to undress you, an act that can only be described as reverent. He presses his lips against every inch of your bare skin, the shock of the cool air immediately soothed by the warmth of his breath.

When you're standing before him, all but bare, he sinks to his knees and asks once more if you trust him.

"Yes," you whisper.

He places loving kisses along your hip bones before moving down to your thighs, holding you steady when you begin to quiver with anticipation. Your hands tangle themselves in his hair, gripping tight as he gets closer and closer to your aching sex.

"Please," you beg, not even certain what you're begging for.

He smiles against your skin. "As you wish."

Head between your thighs, you call out for him, your voice little more than a whine as his tongue swirls around you, sucking at your most sensitive spot all but dripping with arousal.

"Doctor," you murmur breathlessly as his fingers slide inside you, unlocking secrets even you were unaware of. He hums your name, the vibrations sending intense waves of pleasure through your core. You cling to him for dear life as you clench around his fingers, your own digging into his scalp.

The orgasm feels endless. You wonder if it is. If the Tardis is somehow looping time, or if the Doctor is simply that good. Something tells you it's the latter. The thought sends a tingle down your spine.

He licks his lips, swallowing your arousal with a moan as he looks up at you with a smile. "Do you have any idea how delicious you taste?"

You giggle as you cover your face, feeling the heat rise to your cheeks yet again. He rises from his knees, kissing his way up your body until his lips are against yours, the ache between your thighs already returning. You're still shivering from his fingers, his tongue, everything he did, and it hasn't gone unnoticed.

"Don't worry, my love," he purrs. "The night is just beginning."

the boys sitting around the fire camp, some of them are sleeping, others doing gods know what somewhere, we have the two brothers and thorin, alon with balin, dwalin, bilbo and one or two of the others, like ori and oin.

balin is telling a story of old time, about an old dwarf king, living long long and longer. the fire cracks, the whispers and soft laughs rise from the group. bilbo feels warm and soft. he wasn't very keen on going through this journey but the company warmed his heart and made themselves a soft corner labeled as family. his eyes are half closed, he sits beside fili, balin not far away.

"dwarves live long and meaningful lives. i can't imagine all that must be done in what. the lives of the shire are pale compared to it. but i don't think hobbits would do very much more we more lenght"

he thinks of the tea and the books. the grass, the fields, the happy dances on the table and the joyous songs; he loves them dearly, he misses it daily even if he loves the company perhaps just as much, but aside from the few more books he'd be able to read, he cannot think of what he'll do with this life. 200, 250, dwarves can live for an eternity. nothing compares to the immortality of the elves but it's something else entirely.

fili turns around, kili's head appears from behind it. the fire quiets a bit, so does the voices as the few who share the warmth turn toward bilbo.

"whather do you mean, master hobbit?"

thorin's eyes are confused, balin's widen as he understand.

"you dwarves have long lives, compared to us. but i think it makes sense, we enjoy it."

"short? you aren't like humans are you? they live such a short life. they are born and before you can go and see them again they can barely walk." that's dwalin.

"we live a bit longer, around a hundred years. didn't you know?"

eyes widden around the fire. shock, outrage. ori squeaks.

"but, you're in your 50s!"

"i am indeed. please don't start calling me a kid again, we have laughed enough about it."

"but you're not a kid! and you're going to die!"

"we all are, kili. we aren't immortals here, death is inevitable"

oin's fingers rise and fall as he count, balin shakes his head sadely. kili stands up, and fall right at bilbo's feet, shaking him by the shoulders.

"why didn't you tell us, you're going to die, and...and we're taking you to the mountain and you're going to waste your time and..."

thorin's hand drags kili away from his bulgar.

"i wasn't aware hobbits' lives were so short. why haven't you told us?"

"i wasn't unaware you weren't. can we stop discussing my age. i'm not withering away, thank you. i'm still a fine hobbit living with quite enough energy, thank you. i came with you on my own volution, i assure you there is no wasting time as we speak."

after that the talks shift a bit. from time to time one of the brothers turns away and sighs regreatfully, or whispers to the others like they discuss a way to find immortal life.

at some point they turn toward bilbo and annonce : "we aren't letting you die!" with all the seriousness in the world

"i don't think anyone as a choice in this."

"the dragon isn't going to burn a single hair off your head and we will bring you back to the fire unscalthed and safe."

"that was my intention from the very beginning, thank you."

"and you're going to realise how great life is and not waste it away in foolish adventures."

"I- we are taking back your home, how is this foolish? and what do you mean when you say how great life is."

"you know, bilbo, if you didn't feel great you should have told us, we would have helped you."

"what do you m-"

"going away to a fire breather isn't safe. and you're old but not enough and..."

after that bilbo leaves as the brothers waste away their breath, convinced that bilbo was trying to kill himself somehow.

many times later they, any of the dwarves exept the actual smart one like balin, come to him and tell him a way or another to age like a dwarf, with some legendary drink, a secret jewelery to wear or idk

I've been reading some fics where the company finds out about Bilbo's age and starts treating him as a kid. However, I've barely read any fics where they realize that Bilbo has a shorter lifetime than they do.

I need a fic where everyone starts panicking because oh shit their hobbit has such a short time left and they're bringing him to his death via flames. Is this why he joined the quest? He hadnt even experienced the joy of creating something across multiple decades! Kili and Fili panicking that Bilbo is going to be alive only as long as less than half their lives like how a child realize that his beloved pet won't live forever (and won't that be a punch in Bilbo's gut when the reverse happens at the end).

Just the company having an existential crisis about how short Bilbo's life really is and how they spent a significant (for them) part of the hobbit's life being an ass to him.

Because @skyscartoons brought it up and I'm such a sucker for Gravity Falls and Imagine Dragons, I thought I would psychoanalyze the song "I Bet My Life" to see exactly how well it fits with Stan Pines and his story by going lyric to lyric (skipping repeat lines cuz repetitive). Buckle up cuz this might get long winded.

First off, the speaker would most likely be Stan the whole way through. Obviously I feel like there's some nuance, like a few lines feel like Ford could be saying them too, but this is about Stan. If a line also feels like Ford could be saying it, I'll mention it but I'll try to mainly keep it Stan singing. Don't ask me why I'm being so strict with the rules here, cuz I don't know. but anyway...

I know I took the path that you would never want for me

I know I let you down, didn't I?

This could allude to how Stan had accidentally broke Ford's project and 'let him down' by betraying his trust and taking the wrong path by not speaking clearly to Ford about his insecurities before everything happened.

So many sleepless nights where you were waiting up on me

Ford was waiting for Stan to arrive at his house, and, since there was a risk of being possessed if he fell asleep, had many sleepless nights as a result.

Well I'm just a slave unto the night

Stan worked on the portal every night, essentially slaving away to save Ford from it for thirty long years. Could also allude to his homelessness on the streets but the portal was the more glaring interpretation under this lens.

Now remember when I told you that's the last you'll see of me

Remember when I broke you down to tears

Now, I usually see this as Ford talking to Stan about the mission he gave him that would mean Stan probably wouldn't see him again, which is valid and probably the more obvious of the interpretations that I can think of, but since I am trying to see the whole song as Stan singing and not Ford, I got another one.

Stan's whole "I don't need you, I don't need anyone! I can make it on my own!" or however he says it, after Ford closed the curtains could be one interpretation, plus Ford looked like he was about to cry when he closed them. Idk, is my first interpretation better?

Stan pushed Ford into the portal, sending him in the nightmare realm and several dimensions for thirty years. That could be considered a hell for Ford, imho. Could also be Ford saying that to Stan about not standing up for him to get kicked out and stuff.

Stan spent much of his life working to get Ford out of the portal. He didn't know if he could actually ever get him back, but still he tried, betting his life on the small possibility that Ford was still alive at that point and that the portal could still bring him back.

Going back to when Ford called for him, Stan had spent much of his life running around the world (North America at the least), never once believing he would see Ford again, so the post card was shocking to him.

I've told a million lies but now I tell a single truth

Stan spent so much of his life playing the deceit card, pretending he was Ford and everything that came with that, lying to family and friends, and everyone he associated with in Gravity Falls. His one truth...

There's you in everything I do

...was that it was all for Ford. He lied to make sure he didn't get put under scrutiny by people who would wonder why Ford disappeared and his twin left in his place. All so he could bring his brother back.

(skipping the second chorus and moving on to the bridge)

Don't tell me that I'm wrong

Ford, instead of being grateful like he had hoped, had been angry he had opened the portal. Here, Stan isn't just gonna let him say he was wrong for saving him.

I've walked that road before

And left you on your own

Same song and dance as before the portal incident, Ford had accused him of purposefully sabotaging the project and Stan had to leave the house because of it, essentially feeling like Ford was saying he was in the wrong back then too, thus, walking the same road again.

And please believe them when they say

That it's left for yesterday

And the records that I've played

'Them' could be the others in the house, like Dipper and Mabel. Like how Mabel had begged them to 'hug it out!' and all. Like maybe Stan wants Ford to see Dipper and Mabel and see how he should let go of his major grudge. Or something like that, these lines are difficult lol.

Please forgive me for all I've done

At the end of the day, Stan just wants to be forgiven and also accepted by Ford, not pushed away and forgotten in the heat of trying to stop Bill.

Welp, I just spent an hour writing this all out. I hope y'all enjoy my ramblings. Feel free to add on to this with your own interpretations of the lyrics in the light of it being related to Stan. Cuz some caused me headache trying to think of how to interpret it lol.
