20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you for the tag @thegreatwicked :)
1. How many works do you have on AO3? Three
2. What's your total A03 word count? Just over 65K
3. What fandoms do you write for? Just Star Wars, right now.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
I only have 3 total fics 😅 but I'll list them in order of kudos:
Water and Rock - Obi Wan x Reader, slow burn with smut
Four Hours - Din Djarin x Reader, basically a one-off but in two chapters, porn with minimal plot
Pretty Young Thing - Obi Wan x Reader, one-off, porn with almost no plot
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes! I really appreciate people taking the time to comment, so I certainly want to let them know 💜
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? In the Star Wars fandom, I don't have any multi-chapters with endings, so I'll say Water and Rock since it contains the most angst lol
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Pretty Young Thing is just shameless wish fulfillment on my part lmao
8. Do you get hate on fics? This is so funny and I'm glad I get a chance to answer it - yes! I've written for several fandoms in the past and had mild criticism, and a long time ago there was actually ~drama within the same realm as my work, but not directed at me. However! I very nearly stopped posting after only two chapters in the Star Wars fandom because I immediately got an incredibly rude DM right off the bat. Honestly, it stung to the point I wasn't interested in sharing more. But after that, I received so many other kind comments it really turned things around and made me want to continue. I'm so grateful for all the sweet messages and comments you guys send. It makes it fun to share, which of course is what fanfic is all about :)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Absolutely, yes. I write F/M currently although in the past I've also written M/M. I just don't feel as comfortable or good at it. I like vanilla stuff for the most part with some kinks, but I'm not really into BDSM or anything that includes violence beyond mild things.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I have, but not for Star Wars. In a past fandom, I wrote a crossover for Futurama that was very fun. Nothing smutty, just for laughs.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware. One of the funniest crimes, though, if you ask me. Not to anyone who's had a stolen fic. That must feel awful. But for the person stealing someone else's work and taking credit? What on earth could you be trying to accomplish with that?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yeah, I had a 30-something chapter AU once upon a time that was completely translated into Russian. I didn't even find out until a few years later that it was on a Russian website with like a devoted readership and the translator giving author's notes on what they felt I was trying to convey in certain chapters. It was overwhelmingly flattering, but also strange that the translator never tried to reach out to even speak to me about it lol. Still, an amazing feeling, that someone enjoyed my writing enough to translate it for others. Gets me choked up 🥲
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, I was once a part of a 4-person google doc collab for a fic and it was unbelievably fun.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? All TIME? That is a tall order. I have to cheat and give multiple answers, I'm so sorry. I think it was @pickleprickle who mentioned Diana×Worf from Star Trek TNG and I absolutely love them.
Ben and Leslie from Parks & Rec.
A niche mention, but: Aloy and Kotallo from Horizon Zero Dawn (the videogame). I am OBSESSED with their dynamic and clawing, gnashing, biting, etc that it's not canon.
And since I just finished the Chiss Ascendancy Trilogy: Thalias and Samakro girlies please rise up, I am so in love with them 😭
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Speaking of Thrawn... still have a fic with him on the back burner, and I don't ever know that it will get posted.
I also have a smutty Obi Wan one-off that was started ages ago, like 4-5 months ago or something and I'm about 50% sure it won't get finished but I really really want to. I keep coming back to it but never finishing which is VERY ironic considering it's... uh... it's edging.
16. What are your writing strengths? I feel like my answer to this could change based on the time of day lol but I will say I feel strongest when writing dialogue and I've had the most compliments regarding characterization.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Oh, where to begin? 😄 I definitely suffer from the classic overuse of commas. My setting descriptions leave a lot to be desired, and I really wish I made more use of similes. I once had my work described as "clinical" regarding an interaction between two characters. I like to think I've learned and grown since then, but I still find myself jealous of people who are skilled with real, fleshed out, poetic descriptions.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? All depends on the writer. I know people who are amazing at it, and it comes off as natural. Myself? Not so much. And I wouldn't care to attempt it, tbh.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Listen... it was a long time ago...
Inuyasha 🧍
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? My all-time favorite is from an old fandom I don't particularly like to engage with anymore, and it's sadly no longer posted for that reason. I will say my current favorite fic is Water and Rock and I can't wait to post the next update. :)
No pressure tags! @cosmicsierra @djarins-cyare @grapenehifics @firstofficerwiggles @spicemaidenfic @eveningserenityyy

Severus Snape [Harry Potter franchise] | Married (date n/a) | ⛅He Saw a Glow in The Darkness⛅ | Tertiary f/o, in an ideal world we'd all pretend that Snape is my original character and has no relation to a certain disgustingly bigoted author, though I don't post about him much here because of that... huge comfort character to this day and the source of my obsession with all things Alan Rickman

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS* TO GET TO KNOW ME
*Note: I'm not listing any anime here because I'm pretty sure most of you could easily guess eight and probably be right, it'd be the entire list of the actual 8 and HMs, and I consider it's own separate category.
Tagged by @consuelarubirosa. Thanks for the tag!
I'm adding commentary here cause... why not?
Futurama (Criminally underrated).
The X-Files (All these characters deserved more than what Chris Carter gave them and this is the hill I die on. Also was like the first show that was MY show and not anything my parents watched or would watch.)
The West Wing (First two seasons at least, definitely influenced how I try to write dialogue.)
Arcane: League of Legends (Have you all seen my blog since September? This tag is #4 most used among my fandom tags).
Law & Order (I'm listing this because watching Jack McCoy in my teenage years formed part of how I speak in public. And like, I never really could watch any of the spinoffs with any regularity).
Deadwood (Got me through grad school, especially those last 12 months. "Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.")
M*A*S*H (Also got me through grad school during the MA portion of it, even though I did watch it in reruns as a kid as well but man a lot of stuff went over my head as a kid that I got as an adult.)
The Wire (Seriously, watch this show people. Learned more from this show than some of my grad sociology seminars.)
Honorable Mentions because I want to and these shows also definitely mean a lot/influenced me somehow.
Leverage (Why didn't I watch this when it actually aired?)
Star Trek: The Next Generation (I actually did watch this as it aired originally as kid)
Red Dwarf (one of those shows a friend of mine practically ordered me to watch).
Get Smart (I watched a lot of Nick at Nite as a kid. Watching it as an adult, again, I got a lot of stuff that went over my head and recognize a lot of the guest stars like Don Rickles and James Caan.)
Airwolf (Okay. It wasn't exactly high art TV but the helicopter can only be described as sexy and it's where I got half my username)
Stargate SG-1 (FIrst four seasons were great).
And I'm tagging (no one is actually obligated to do this): @annawry, @byronicbi, @nivalingreenhow, @telekinetic-issue, @meilirima, @karinta-agogobell-unified and anyone else that sees this and wants to do it, consider yourself tagged by me.

The Venture Bros. #15: “A Very Venture Christmas” | December 19, 2004 – 11:45PM
Merry almost-Christmas, everyone! Here’s one last hurrah for The Venture Bros. before we wait over a year for season 2. Will I talk mostly about TV continuity and canon? Or will I actually address this episode on a creative level? Only one way to find out!
Okay it’s the first one. What’s the deal with this episode, anyway? Does it fit in the series continuity? Is it an exercise in old-school television where special episodes don’t have to be canon? It’s sorta both, and it’s sorta weird. Fandom will dictate that this episode takes place at some point after Ice Station Impossible (Sally Impossible appears at the Christmas party visibly pregnant), but before Trial of the Monarch (The Monarch is very much not in prison). Also, the boys are alive in this, so that’s pretty huge. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve slotted this in before “Trial of the Monarch” on my last Venture Bros. rewatch. It seems sorta important, but it’s sorta not.
Why is it not? Well, the vast majority of this episode, depicting a Venture Christmas party wherein the Monarch has booby-trapped the Ventures’ manger scene with explosives and the boys accidentally unleash the dreaded Krampus on their party (by the way - there are probably about a dozen Krampus horror movies now, but this is the first time I personally ever heard of Krampus myself). Turns out to be a dream. But there are later episodes that callback this Christmas party as though it weren’t a dream? So I guess in Venture canon a less-volatile version of this party took place, and this is the nightmare version that Dr. Venture was having.
The reason I didn’t take the liberty of numbering this in accordance with fan-recommended viewing orders is because I do sorta believe that it’s meant to exist between seasons. Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick are absolutely taking the spirit of an old-school “Christmas Special” and running with it. One characteristic of a Christmas special is that they are only shown around Christmas, no matter what role it plays in series continuity. I remember before the era of streaming or certainly DVD season sets reaching full penetration, I would record certain shows I loved from syndication in order to collect full sets of them, and be dismayed when they skipped the Christmas episode because of this very ethos. So I declare that this episode’s continuity with Christmas is more important than it’s continuity with the series.
This is also one of two Venture episodes that is meant for a quarter-hour slot rather than a half-hour slot, which I’ve read is a budgetary thing and less by design. I wonder what a half-hour episode of this would’ve looked like. Did the “just a dream” ending only come about because of this constraint? Could it be that the party WASN’T a dream, but rather a flashback Doc was having, and the explosion at the end was just a dramatic flourish in his brain? Boy, I sure am asking a lot of follow up questions for something I just said doesn’t really matter, aren’t I?

Happy Holidays Marathon (December 19, 2004)
There’s something nice about watching Christmas episodes around Christmas time, I gotta admit. Even though I take a Penn Jillette style approach to consent--I mean, religion and consumerism, I simply adore the Christmas season. Merry almost Christmas, everyone. Here’s what Adult Swim aired for their holiday marathon in 2004:
11:00PM - Family Guy: “A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas”
11:30PM - Tom Goes to the Mayor: “Rats Off to Ya!”
11:45PM - The Venture Bros.: “A Very Venture Christmas”
12:00AM - Aqua Teen Hunger Force: “Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future”
12:15AM - Aqua Teen Hunger Force: “T-Shirt of the Dead”
12:30AM - Futurama: “Xmas Story”
1:00AM - Futurama: “A Tale of Two Santas”
1:30AM - Baby Blues: “A Baby Blues Christmas Special”

In reference to my recent announcement that I will be covering old Cartoon Network Space Ghost episodes along with my Robot Chicken reviews:
Will you be covering the GameTap era of SGC2C after you complete the original Cartoon Network seasons?
Undecided! My guess is I’m gonna touch on them under EPHEMERA CORNER without properly reviewing them, then I’ll do them when the Cartoon Network shows are done. That seems like a nice way to do that. What doyouthink
London Arbuckle writes:
I forgot the detail of Tom's dumb boat that he has to sell on top of everything else, I love how at every turn this show makes him a pathetic underdog but also completely impossible to root for. He's every bit as tacky and chintzy and shortsighted and dumb as everything else in this universe yet he still gets punished for it. Simply a beautiful vision.
I can’t formulate a proper response other than that this is a good as hell point. I literally got out of one of my nasty points to make sure it went on tonight’s post before it publishes 6 minutes from the time I’m writing this right now. AHHH!!

)Rules: List your 10 favorite female characters from 10 different fandoms and tag 10 people
thanks for the tag, @theshinsun! This is so difficult omg. I spent a long time thinking about these and it’s still really hard...mostly because I’ve just kind of been floating in the ether between fandoms for the past couple of years.
1. Lisa Simpson (The Simpsons): I always have and always will adore Lisa Simpson as a politically charged, liberal character on a mainstream TV show. She’s amazing.
2. Katara (Avatar: the Last Airbender): and not just because I recently finished rewatching the series for the 4th time. I’ve loved the show (and Katara) since I was a kid and it was airing on TV. Two episodes stand out to me in particular: the one where she challenges Master Paku, even knowing she’s going to lose, and the one where they’re lost in the desert. She is just so strong, intelligent, loving, and yet also more multi-faceted than the general “mom” female character archetype, as showcased by her drive to fight and the righteous anger she often displays. Getting angry enough at Master Paku’s sexism to challenge him to a fight she knew she couldn’t win, just to get some small satisfaction out of it....Big Dick Energy. I know many people stan Toph the most, but it’d be a slightly different beast for Toph in a situation like this- she isn’t a newbie at bending and would absolutely already know she’s going to win. Having the courage to challenge someone you know you’ll lose to just to make a point? Different set of balls entirely.
3. Ella (Ella Enchanted): where do I even start??? How about with if you haven’t read this book, READ IT IMMEDIATELY! It’s a book for kids so it’s only like 200 pages and a fun/easy read, but holy SHIT. So it’s an extremely creative re-telling of Cinderella and it’s incredible. Basically, Ella has been cursed at birth to be obedient- if someone orders her to do something, she *has* to do it. The whole book is about her wild, independent spirit and her journey to breaking the curse and the whole thing is a brilliant commentary on women in society while also being full of humour and magic creatures and adventure and fun and it’s my favourite book of all time!
4. Nynaeve al’Meara (The Wheel of Time): she is very angry and bossy and I adore that. Over the course of a 14 book series, there’s way too much to get into with her, but I love her and her stubbornness. For anyone who hasn’t read the series, she’s a magic-user and becomes incredibly good at healing out of pure stubbornness. Picture a “fuck you, you aren’t going to fucking die because I SAID SO DAMMIT” type of character.
(this is fanart because she’s a book character)
5. Shion Uzuki (Xenosaga): again, stubborn, bossy, smart.....I have a type don’t I hahahaha
6. Leela (Futurama): I’m outing myself as a Matt Groening stan but c’est la vie, I love the female characters in his shows. Leela is a great combo of tough badass/low brain cell count and I love her so much.
7. Starfire (Teen Titans): first of all, I am gay.....and she’s incredibly powerful but also very kind, and I love that combo.
8. Mrs. Brisby (The Secret of NIMH): *cries* precious mother trying to save her kids!!!!!!!! Plus it’s an amazing movie.
9. Eris (Sinbad): she is one of my favourite female villains. Coy, toying, dangerous. And I suppose this doesn’t have much to do with her character, but her hair design is fucking COOL. I’m gay and we need more amazing female villains that aren’t just there to be sexy.
10. KOS-MOS (Xenosaga): again, I am very gay....I remember buying this game when I was 12 just because her picture on the cover was so pretty (that kid wasn’t straight I’m tellin ya). Anyway she’s the sexy robot archetype- except she’s literally a robot and speaks like a robot and has no empathy and will kill you, and I’m willing to excuse the skimpy outfits she’s put in because a) I’m gay and b) she was canonically designed by a woman (#5′s Shion Uzuki no less) and we are here for Space Lesbians and the gay pining of a woman who wants nothing more than for the beautiful killer robot she designed with her big science brain to become real and Love Her
(this is REAL, ACTUAL, OFFICIAL art for the game.....can it get any gayer?!?!)
Anyway, I’ve talked enough, so I’m tagging @squirrelmort, @konekat, @editingatwork, @fanonorcanon, @pixielle....I’m not sure who else is into these types of memes so I’m not sure who to tag, so if you want to but I didn’t tag you, feel free to do it! I want to see everyone’s picks!

My Top 10 Christmas Episodes
mysterylover123
Everyone has a favorite Christmas Episode. That time of year from your favorite shows where the characters celebrate the holidays along with you, usually accompanied by big changes in their lives, gaudy decorations, and creative traditions. I’ve included my top 10 here, along with some honorable mentions. I’ve excluded Christmases I liked from book/film/comic book series, thought I think in 2 years time there will be a grand new edition to the list (aka My Hero Academia). Hope you all like them and have a Merry Christmas!
#10. Futurama “Xmas Story” Airdate: 12/19/1999
I don’t broadcast it much, but I love classic Futurama. This little gem of a Christmas episode - sorry, X-mas episode - is a common staple of “Best Christmas Episode” lists, and for good reason. It’s one of those “dark” Christmas stories, featuring a murderous Santa Claus robot, Fry dealing with being 1000 years in the future where his old traditions have died, and some good bonding moments among the cast of Planet Express. I particularly like the “gift of the Magi” joke with Amy and Hermes, and the Harold Lloyd reference with Fry on the clock tower.
#9. X-Men Evolution “On Angel’s Wings” Airdate: 12/15/2001
X-Men Evolution is a nostalgic favorite of mine - my introduction to the X-men in high school, the first show I ever read fanfiction for, etc. It’s Christmas episode has a very warm feeling to it, a rare dip into sentimentality for the show. It deals with Scott and Rogue going to recruit Angel for the X-Men while the others are home for the holidays, and clashing with Magneto in their attempts to do so. I’m always down for an episode focused on Rogue, and her bond with Scott over being the X-Men without families to go home to is great. The little montage that ends the episode always puts a smile on my face.
#8. The Simpsons “Holidays of Future Passed” Airdate: 12/11/2011
I heard this one was thought of as a potential series finale for The Simpsons, as a bit of closure for their premiere (another christmas Episode, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open fire”, which I like but find a little too ‘early Simpsons’ to make the list.). Honestly, I wish it had been. Modern Simpsons is generally such a mess, it would’ve been nice to see it get such a dignified end in Season 23. This one is a great little trip to the future of the family, and it really feels like a nice vision of what could become of them somewhere down the line. I like that this one gives Homer a chance to be a good grandad, and a bonding moment between Lisa and Bart. I hope this is where they really do end up.
#7. Frasier “Frasier Grinch” Airdate: 12/19/1995
Frasier is the only show that ended up landing 2 Christmas episodes in my Top 10. And I felt I still had to cut a few of them that could’ve made the list easily. This series really had a knack for the Christmas episode. My 2nd favorite, obviously, is this little offering from Season 3, which deals with Frasier trying to get Freddy gifts in time for the holiday when the ones he ordered got misdirected. It ends up touching on an aspect of the holidays I wish would get covered a little more often: when you buy others Christmas gifts, are you getting them what they actually want, or just what you think they should want? Overbearing Frasier has made this blunder, and the episode helps him learn that lesson. Though as usual Niles steals the show. Niles in a toy store trying out a doofy hat is more than worth the #7 spot.
#6. Friends “The One with the Christmas in Tulsa” Airdate: 12/12/2002
Friends has a lot of Christmastime episodes, but most of them are just kinda coincidentally set around the holidays. Only a few stand out as actual “Christmas Episodes”. While I enjoy “Holiday Armadillo”’s comedy and “Creepy Holiday card”’s sentimentality, my standout favorite is this one, the last Christmas episode they did, perhaps because Chandler and Monica are my favorites on the show and their romance is the OTP. This one deals with Chandler away from home, working on Christmas at a job he hates and being separated from Monica. Through some clips and a bit of soul searching, he decides to finally quit the job he hates and pursue something he wants to do. It’s a great example of how to do a clip show/Christmas episode well, move characters forward, and remind us of why we love these two together.
#5. Buffy “Amends” Airdate: 12/15/1998
This one would probably be higher if there wasn’t so much Bangel melodrama in the last 10 minutes (sorry fans, I really hate Bangel). But the rest of it is more than good enough to put Buffy’s sole Christmas episode at #5 for me. What I love the most about this one is, well, the ‘amends’ of the title. Xander starts making up for 3 seasons of douchebaggery by being a good friend. Willow makes up with Oz. Buffy makes up with Faith. That latter one puts the biggest smile on my face of the bunch; it’s bittersweet, given what happens, but when Faith shows up on Buffy’s doorstep with presents for her and Joyce, my small Grinch heart grows three sizes each time. Definitely a must-watch.
#4. Parks and Recreation “Christmas Scandal” Airdate: 12/10/2009
Parks and Rec has 3 Christmas episodes and they’re all pretty good. I debated between this one and “Ron and Diane”, but since that one is more about Ron’s award ceremony, I decided to go with Season 2′s. This one is a very “Parks and Rec” kinda Christmas, dealing with Leslie getting involved in a dumb sex scandal, the Parks department putting on a “Winter wonderland” on Lot 48, some dating drama about Ann and Leslie and their boyfriends (At this point, since Ben and Chris weren’t around yet, Mark and Dave), and a very cute hug between a pre-marriage April and Andy. The biggest win in this one is the sheer Christmas atmosphere. It practically glows off the screen.
#3. How I Met Your Mother “False Positive” Airdate: 12/13/2010
HIMYM is another one with a lot of candidates, but “False Positive” really stands out to me as something special. It’s essentially an “It’s a wonderful life”-style story (as they’re going to see the movie) where Lily’s false positive pregnancy test inspires the friend group to each choose the more responsible path in life of their two choices, only to chicken out when the false part of the title is revealed. The way the episode ends is absolutely spectacular, a standout moment to me among the series’ many strong character moments, and leads to strong development for all around going forward. Definitely a highlight of HIMYM’s 6th season, and an episode full of Christmas imagery, soul-searching, and classic plotlines.
#2. Frasier “The Fight Before Christmas” Airdate: 12/16/1999
My favorite Frasier Christmas episode feels like it combines a little bit of everything that makes the other ones good: a KACL office Christmas party with a whacky theme (we finally see it instead of having it going on in the background!), Frasier being pompous about Christmas celebrations and ending up karmically punished for it, a comedic scenario which crafts a comedy of errors, Martin’s decorating. In many ways though, the highlight of this one is how deftly it handles the romance reveal from the previous episode between Niles and Daphne. in the midst of all the crappy Christmas rom coms, it’s easy to forget how strong a good Christmas set romance can be, and the moment of tension as Daphne tries to reject Niles but just can’t quite do it is a standout for me. Definitely my favorite of Frasier’s 8 xmas episodes.
Hon. Mentions: Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, Batman Christmas with the Joker and Holiday Knights, Frasier Perspectives on Christmas, Parks and Rec Ron and Diane, HIMYM How Lily Stole Christmas.
#1. Smallville “Lexmas” Airdate: 12/8/2005
This one isn’t just a Christmas episode. It’s pretty much the Ultimate Christmas episode. Where to begin? A fancy Christmas party jam-packed with colorful decor. Superman - Clark - delivering presents as Santa for the Daily Planet. Clark talking/saving a depressed mall Santa (or is he real?) from committing suicide with an emotional heart to heart. Sweet family Christmas celebrations (right before tragedy strike in the next episode). But of course, the real highlight of this one is Lex’s Alternate Reality fantasy. After getting shot, the titular Luthor has a vision of what his life could be like if he did the right thing, essentially an “It’s a Wonderful Life” style alternate reality. However, that reality ends in tragedy, and the tragic twist of the episode is that instead of leading the Grinch’s heart to grow, the Christmas dream only serves to help solidify Luthor’s fall to the dark side. It is certainly juxtaposed with enough holiday magic and hope to offset that depressing ending, but I will admit to liking a bit of subversion in my stories now and then. Everything Christmas episodes could have is jam-packed into this episode.

TV Show Tag Game
Thanks for the tag @inmypheelings!
My shows! (No particular order!)
(Except I just stole them from my answers to the TV gif game from a couple weeks ago 😆)
1) Scrubs
2) Futurama
3) Gravity Falls
4) Twilight Zone
5) Batman: The Animated Series
——————————————-
Questions!
1) who is your favorite character in 2?
Zoidberg (cue: “Why not Zoidberg?”)
2) who is your least favorite character in 1?
Hmmm...I guess Keith? If I HAVE to choose.
3) what is your favorite episode in 4?
I can’t pick just one, but my tops are: Eye of the Beholder, The Masks, Miniature, The Lonely, The Howling Man, The Obsolete Man
4) what is your favorite season for 5?
Season 1 for sure
5) who is your favorite couple in 3?
Soos/Melody
6) who is your favorite couple in 2?
Fry/Leela - they are my Futurama OTP
7) what is your favorite episode in 1?
Gah I can’t choose! I’ll cop out and say “My Finale” (Season 8, Episode 18) because it wrapped the show up so well.
8) what is your favorite episode in 5?
Heart of Ice followed by Feat of Clay Parts 1 & 2
9) what is your favorite season in 2?
3 & 4
10) how long have you watched 1?
I watched it when it was first on and used to watch the reruns ALL THE TIME.
11) how did you become interested in 3?
I think my husband started watching it first? Or it happened to be on TV and I left it on and kept watching and loved it.
12) favorite actor in 4?
Rod Serling, if he counts. If not, Burgess Meredith.
13) which do you prefer 1,2 or 5?
Too hard to choose!
14) which have you seen more episode of, 1 or 3?
1 because it has more than 3
15) if you could be anyone from 4 who would you be?
Hmmm...one of the characters who gets a happy ending 😂
16) would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?
FOR SURE.
17) pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple
Umm...they spoofed it a bit in one episode, but I’ll say the Janitor/Elliot.
18) overall, which story has the better storyline, 3 or 5?
I really like that 3 had a short run on purpose, and that there’s an ongoing story throughout the show in addition to the mini-story in each episode. 5 has great individual episodes but there’s not really an ongoing story arc.
19) which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?
4 is iconic, but I’ll say 2
Enjoy!
I’ll tag @and-wakes-imagination, @a-phantom-fool, @sfiddy, @madphantom, @batherik, anyone else who wants to do this!

Ventura Guitar Serial Number Lookup
Beautiful old vintage Ventura Bruno V14 guitar. Looking at other similar models on e-bay, I GEUSS it to be 60's-70's but I do not know. Serial number is 74725, could be made in Japan but I do not know! This guitar includes chipboard case, has warm aged tone, the vibe of old guitar. Ventura was a brand of stringed instruments imported from Japan by C. Bruno and Company during the 1960s and 1970s. Bruno was bought by Kaman in the early 1980s, after which the brand disappeared. Some of the Ventura guitars were knock-offs of the Martin line, such as the Ventura V-35 appearing similar to the Martin D-35, and the Ventura V. Good luck and happy Ventura hunting! Re: Ventura Guitar 14:51 on Saturday, June 5, 2004. (David Woodson) Posted by Archived posts. I have a 'Bruno' Ventura Classic gut string that I bought from C&S Music in Fort Worth,Texas in 1965-66. It has a nice classic tone but that is all I know about it.
GENERAL VINTAGE GUITAR RESOURCES:
Vintage Guitar Magazine - this is Vintage Guitar 101 and all neophytes are advised to start here. Of course, my favorite part is Michael Wright's 'Different Strummer' column, which covers the history of all those wild, wacky off-brand instruments in elaborate detail. VG has also published several of my own articles over the years, some of which can be found on this site.
The Blue Book - if you're serious about buying and selling used guitars, the Blue Book provides the most detailed pricing, dating and identification info. Much of it is available online for free.
GuitarHQ - a nice all-around mainstream vintage guitar site. All the standard Gibson and Fender type stuff, plus some other interesting odds and ends.
ProjectGuitar.com- where the Internet goes to work on guitars! All about guitar maintenance and repair.
MIMF - the Musical Instrument Makers Forum is a goldmine of information about materials, construction and repair techniques, including a gallery of unique custom built guitars that range from inept to incredible. If you need professional advice about repairing your old guitar, this is the place to ask.
Stewart-McDonald - a good source for replacement guitar parts and repair tools to keep your junker running. Also check out WD and Allparts. I'm not sponsored by or affiliated with these or any other manufacturer or retailer, but I'm often asked to recommend good parts sources.Well, here you go.
Ampage - a nice info source for amp schematics and other guitar electronics.
GuitarElectronics.com - lots of wiring diagrams.
Dr. Duck's Dating Service - an excellent resource, lots of serial numbers for many brands of guitars.
OTHER 'JUNK GUITAR' SITES:
Cheesy Guitars - a true kindred spirit, Meatex Z has created a wonderful site dedicated to all those unplayable Russian and Eastern European guitars. He was also nice enough to give me credit for naming his site and helping him out with information initially. We were originally going to do this project together, but decided that two sites are better than one. Go visit Meatex and tell him Big Beat says 'hi'.
SovietGuitars.com - this cool Russian language page for fans of Soviet era instruments is rapidly becoming an important resource.
Vintaxe.com - an excellent site about some of the lesser known vintage guitars produced in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Lots of pictures and vintage catalog scans, including some of mine that I have shared with them.
My Rare Guitars - a nice collection of cheesy offbeat axes by a very hip collector and dealer. Vintage Normas, Ekos and Dominos galore, plus some great modern reissues.
Fetish Guitars - a fabulous site about Eko, Wandre, Galanti and other Italian guitars of the 60's. Both visually stunning and very informative, it is an absolute marvel.
Lordbizarre's Electric Guitar & Amp Museum - The name says it all. This collector from Belgium has put some seriously weird axes on display for your viewing pleasure.
Cheap Trashy Weird Old Guitars - cool name, and certainly the right spirit! A small but impressive collection of Egmonds, Wilsons, Musimas and even something called a Horugel.
21 Frets - I just love it when somebody takes totally trashed Hagstroms and Melody Makers and restores them from trash to flash. This site chronicles some really cool restoration projects.
Gudok - a Russian site that showcases 'the weapons of the proletariat', old Soviet guitars such as the Tonika, the Formanta and the Solo-II.
Hendrix Room - a Japanese site with a neat collection of totally off-the-wall 60's guitars with names like Youngtone and Melodier.

: I bought this Ventura in 1980 at H & H music in Houston and I was just wondering what it is worth. It has a classical body style, not the dreadnought. The action is low and has an adjustable truss rod. The serial number is 60505 and the model # is V-200B. Does anyone out there have an accurate answer? Have a great day.I have a Ventura Bruno V-12 I paid $110 for in 1972 at Hauschild's music in Victoria, TX. Don't know if they are still around as the owner was up in years then. I have heard they were made in Japan but I dont know this for sure.
Guitar ID and AppraisalThere are many reasons for determining the precise age of your used guitar. The most important one is probably pricing the instrument appropriately when you’re looking to sell it. Prices for certain vintage models vary by thousands of dollars depending on whether it’s a 1963, for example, or a 1964.
You’ll also need to know exactly what your guitar is worth for insurance purposes. One of the most valuable and often overlooked resources to help you identify and appraise guitars is your local used instrument dealer. It’s so important to establish a working relationship with these folks. While it may be tempting to call every store in the area in order to save a few dollars when you’re shopping for something, developing a loyalty to one or two shops pays off when you need service that goes beyond a simple purchase.
While most shops charge a fee for an official appraisal, it may take an experienced retailer only a second to realize that your old Epiphone is actually a Nova 390, produced from 1976 to 1980 in the company’s short-lived Japanese factory. The shop employee may be glad to look up the approximate value of your ax in a book and give you an opinion about what it’s worth. But if you randomly drop by a store that you’ve never been to before and ask for this kind of help, they might not take the time to look carefully at what you’ve got.LEARNING THE HISTORYIf you want to educate yourself to identify guitars, the first step is to become familiar with the histories of some of the larger companies.
In recent years, more and more books providing information on the major guitar manufacturers have become available, and they’re a great place to start. There are some basic questions to ask.
When did the company start building guitars? Where were the guitars manufactured? Did the company move in the course of its existence, and did it move its production overseas? Did the model in question change drastically during the years of production?
For example, Gibson’s J-200 started out with rosewood back and sides and fairly standard X-bracing in the late 1930s. It was changed to maple back and sides (except for a few rosewood examples) and a double-X bracing pattern in the ’50s. Yet another double-X bracing pattern was used during the ’70s, and then a more Martin-like scalloped X-bracing was adopted when the model was reintroduced in the late ’80s. These are all differences that would be difficult for the uneducated eye to notice, yet they drastically affect the guitar’s sound and value. At the very least, these books will identify the time period during which the guitar in question was produced, basic information that will, for example, keep you from paying a premium for a '1960s Martin HD-28' (you’ll know that this model wasn’t introduced until 1976). Sometimes you can narrow down even further the time period in which your guitar was built because of a certain distinguishing feature. For example, a volute or scroll at the back of a Gibson headstock usually indicates that the instrument was built between 1974 and 1981 (although some appeared as early as 1969).Another thing that the trained eye will immediately be able to pick up on is whether an instrument was built in the U.S.
Or imported from one of the many low-end Asian manufacturers. When I worked in retail, a customer once walked in with a Ventura archtop for sale.
Convinced that he had a guitar that was built in the U.S. In the ’50s, he stormed out after I told him what I’d be able to offer him for it. Even if I hadn’t known that Venturas were made in Japan during the ’70s (which was confirmed by a quick look in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide), I knew as soon as he opened the case. It was mostly the guitar’s thick finish that gave it away, complete with lacquered neck-to-body joints and drips through the f-holes. The wimpy hardware was another dead giveaway that this guitar was neither domestically made, as he thought, nor a high-quality import. The best place to gain this kind of familiarity is at your local music store’s used-and-cheap section; the more guitars you inspect, the more experienced you’ll be.One of the biggest roadblocks in identifying a guitar can often be the serial number.
These numbers are frequently inconsistent or missing from reference books. In many cases, a serial number by itself is about as useful as a phone number with a missing digit. Few companies have consistently used the same system of numbering during their entire existence (Martin is among those that have). For example, Gibson began using an eight-digit number in 1977.
The first and fifth digits indicated the year of production (8XXX2XXX meant it was built in 1982). If you tried to apply this formula to a serial number on an older Gibson, or even a newer vintage reissue (which sometimes use 'vintage' serial numbers) you’d be making a big mistake.REFERENCE BOOKSSo, how does one go about accurately identifying a used instrument? Probably the publication most often referred to is Gruhn’s Guide to Vintage Guitars. Written by George Gruhn (of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville) and Walter Carter, the guide is a must-have for identifying older American-made guitars. Organized into brands, general information, serial numbers, specific features, and model designations, the book identifies most major-brand guitars of the past and offers meticulous descriptions and a wealth of helpful photos. It offers little or no information on smaller makers, budget instrument makers, and recent entries into the guitar market.Although designed to give approximate values for vintage instruments, the Vintage Guitar Price Guide is also quite useful in identifying instruments. While it doesn’t describe each model’s features in detail, it does provide a company history for most of the makers included.
The book’s many photos can be very helpful, and the general listings, which include many off-brands, are among the most complete available. As with all price guides, the dollar amounts shown are to be taken with a grain of salt, but having even a vague idea of an instrument’s value will make you a more savvy buyer or seller.Another excellent resource is the Blue Book of Guitars. This hefty book probably represents the most complete compilation of information on guitars that have not yet reached vintage status.

It’s one of the few books that lists instruments made by companies such as Kay and J.B. Player and by individual luthiers such as Dave Maize and Steve Klein. Besides retail price information, the book includes brief descriptions of most companies and models listed, as well as a unique section on grading the condition of an instrument. In a color section, a variety of guitars are pictured front and back, showing a range of possible conditions-from 20 percent (poor) to 100 percent (new). You can also join guitar-related newsgroups on the Internet, but beware of advice from uneducated participants posing as guitar experts. Of particular interest to acoustic guitarists are rec.music.makers.guitar.acoustic, rec.music.makers.guitar.jazz, and rec.music.classical.guitar.

Winter 2021 TV Preview
https://ift.tt/3oETRt7
Every New Year’s celebration comes along with some excitement, pomp, and circumstance, but rarely has the countdown from 10 felt more urgent in the waning seconds of 2020. Yes, 2020 is just a number and yes, time is just an abstract concept created to explain celestial bodies moving around one another. But darn it all, it still feels great to see “2021” at the top of this article.
2021 will hopefully come along with some good news (though admittedly early signs aren’t looking great on that front). At the very least, however, it should come along with some interesting TV options. Due to COVID-19 production delays, there perhaps aren’t as many confirmed release dates for early 2021 as we’ve seen in years’ past. Still, there are plenty of exciting new and returning TV shows to keep you occupied throughout the chilly season.
Winter 2021 is when Marvel makes its triumphant return to television. The official MCU canon gets started with WandaVision in January before continuing on with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in March. The newly-branded CWverse will make its debut this season with Javica Leslie’s Ryan Wilder taking up the mantle of Batwoman. And that’s not even to mention other genre options like Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga or season 2 of TNT’s surprisingly good Snowpiercer.
What follows are all the new and returning shows in winter 2021 that we’re excited about. You can also check out a list of our most anticipated returning British series here and new British series here.
Prodigal Son Season 2
Jan. 12 on Fox
Audiences were captivated by a shocking season 1 finale for Fox’s crime thriller Prodigal Son, and season 2 will continue the story of police profiler Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), and his notorious serial killer father Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen). Malcolm’s sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) has gone from intrepid reporter to protector of family secrets by following her father’s deadly instructions.
With Malcolm’s life in disarray as a result, Prodigal Son season 2 will find him protecting his mother Jessica (Bellamy Young) from a secret that could tear the family apart even worse than before. Martin, meanwhile, is determined to strengthen the growing bond between him and his “prodigal son,” and the relationship is bound to produce more twists and revelations when the show returns on Jan. 12, 2021. – Michael Ahr
Superstore Season 6
Jan. 14 on NBC
Superstore will be taking a bow with its current sixth and final season, but there’s a big status quo change that will add plenty of drama to its final episodes. Jonah (Ben Feldman) will have to find out how to move on from Amy (America Ferrera) after her exit from the series less than three months ago.
So far we know that Jonah’s ex Kelly (Kelly Stables) has returned to the Ozark Highlands store. Also, there are rumors that though Superstore is coming to an end, characters Bo and Cheyenne could be getting their own spinoff. Perhaps we see some sort of backdoor pilot? Superstore will air 11 more episodes before concluding in the spring. – Nick Harley
Search Party Season 4
Jan. 14 on HBO Max
In addition to being a great TV show in general, Search Party belongs on a short list of the best “well…how did we end up here?” entertainment properties. This dark comedy from Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers, and Michael Showalter began with one young millennial’s decision to go looking for a missing acquaintance. Somehow that led to no fewer than two murders and the trial of the social media century. For its fourth season, Search Party will up the ante yet again.

Search Party Season 4 Review (Spoiler-Free)

Cassidy Diamond is Search Party Season 3’s Vocal Fry Queen
By Alec Bojalad
As evidenced by the end of season 3, Dory Sief (Alia Shawkat) finds herself kidnapped and held by her stalker (Cole Escola). While Dory is missing, her friends Elliot Goss (John Early), Portia Davenport (Meredith Hagner), and Drew Gardner (John Reynolds) try to move on with their lives before deciding to make the name of the show make sense again. Search Party proved to be a modest cult hit when it originally aired its first two seasons on TBS. That was enough to get seasons 3 and 4 to HBO Max, where hopefully it will confuse and delight audiences for years to come. – Alec Bojalad
WandaVision
Jan. 15 on Disney+
Give it up for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s wackiest installment yet. Partially filmed in front of a live audience, this nine-episode TV series centered around Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and The Vision (Paul Bettany), is poised to herald in the new, Disney+ era of MCU.
While showrunner Jac Schaeffer has kept mum on the exact details of the plot, trailers tease a trip down TV sitcom memory lane that appears to be some kind of collective (forgive us) vision shared by Wanda, her late boyfriend android Vision, and others. We’ll have to wait to find out if it is a reality created by the uber powerful Wanda herself, driven by her grief over Vision’s Infinity War death, or if there is another force at play here. Whatever the answer, WandaVision looks to be a wild ride. – Kayti Burt
Disenchantment Season 3
Jan. 15 on Netflix
While Matt Groening is best known for a certain animated on Fox series that’s run for…a few seasons, to some he will always be known as the mastermind behind beloved cult animated hit Futurama. And it’s that series that fans hoped for more of with the announcement of the fantasy kingdom set Disenchantment for Netflix. Through two seasons, Disenchantment hasn’t reached Futurama’s heights yet (because really: what could?) but it has delivered on the promise of exciting, serialized storytelling in a wacky animated world.
Disenchantment season 3 is set to open up the show’s storytelling even more. The end of season 2 (or Part Two, per Netflix) finds Bean (Abbi Jacobson), Luci (Eric Andre), and Elfo (Nat Faxon) trapped in a catacomb surrounded by “Trogs” and Bean’s villainous mother Queen Dagmar. Season 3 trailers reveal that Bean and the gang won’t spend much time here, however, and will instead eventually make it to the previously hinted-at steampunk world known as Steamland. With the show transitioning from magic to science only three seasons in, perhaps it’s not much longer before we get a proper Futurama crossover. – AB
Servant Season 2
Jan. 15 on Apple TV+
The premise of Servant’s first season was a simple yet unnerving one. The M. Night Shyamalan-produced Apple TV+ series found two parents, Dorothy (Lauren Ambrose) and Sean Turner (Toby Kebbell), dealing with the death of their son by caring for a “reborn” doll named Jericho. The doll was creepy enough to begin with but made creepier by the Turners bringing a young nanny named Leanne (Nell Tiger Free) aboard who immediately accepts the doll as a real child without questions. And that was all just the setup for a show that absolutely wasn’t satisfied to let weird enough alone.
Season 2 finds Leanne on the run with Jericho and also perhaps with a cult? I don’t know, Servant really is a lot. The real question, however, is what kind of meals Sean will be preparing this year. As a professional chef, the character was always known for cooking up something truly delicious (and usually gruesome) in his expansive Philadelphia home kitchen. Hopefully he still has enough time to cook with all the missing baby and cult stuff. – AB
Batwoman Season 2
Jan. 17 on The CW
Batwoman is gone; long live Batwoman. Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane is out of the picture, but Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder is here to put her own spin on the black and red suit. We’ve seen the first two episodes of season 2, and we can’t wait for more! The series makes room for Kate’s loved ones, Gotham, and the audience, to mourn her, while Ryan quickly establishes her own origin story and relationship to all our favorite returning characters, who have very different reactions to her presence.
Like Kate before her, Ryan opens up the world of superheroics to new communities. Oh and that villain Safiyah they teased all last season, who even makes Alice scared? Buckle up because she’s coming to Gotham and she’s not messing around. – Delia Harrington
All American Season 3
Jan. 18 on The CW
This CW sports drama breakout returns for a third season with a whole new set of problems for Spencer James, who returned to his former school, South Crenshaw, at the end of Season 2 in order to keep it from becoming a magnet school. From the looks of the Season 3 trailer, Spencer continues to be caught between two worlds; his former teammates at Beverly Hills High can’t get past the color of his jersey.
Meanwhile, Coach Baker’s own transition to South Crenshaw is anything but smooth, as he has to deal with a hostile school principal who has raised the required GPA for student athletes. Additionally, All American plans to explicitly integrate th Black Lives Matter protest in Season 3, promising another season that is as relevant as it is dramatically addicting. – KB
Riverdale Season 5
Jan. 20 on The CW
Riverdale’s fifth season will open with the prom, finishing up the season four stories that were cut off early due to COVID-19, with the trailer teasing eerie violence, plenty of twists, and a possible Barchie hookup. Then the show will fast-forward seven years to show the gang in their mid-twenties AKA at their actual ages. The main cast is returning, with Riverdale parents Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones) and Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge) leaving the show.
Riverdale has cast Veronica’s husband and he’s not played by KJ Apa or his secret twin, so we’re going to need some serious explanation about what happened to Varchie – and why, if they broke up, it wasn’t so Beronica could finally get together. Vanessa Morgan’s IRL pregnancy will be incorporated into Toni Topaz’s storyline – hopefully that means a gayby for Choni! Whatever comes next, it will definitely be bonkers-drama, stylized as hell, and at least 75% murder-y. – DH
Nancy Drew Season 2
Jan. 20 on The CW
If you skipped Nancy Drew last year because you think there are too many reboots and remakes, take this as an opportunity to correct your error! Part Veronica Mars, part ghost story, and actually as cool as Riverdale hopes to be, this refresh of the beloved books is a take on high-stakes small town crime, the haves vs the have-nots, and every conceivable legend involving a sea witch that fictional Horseshoe Bay, Maine has to offer.

Walker
Jan. 21 on The CW
The CW is rebooting the 90s television hit Walker, Texas Ranger for a new action series titled simply Walker, premiering January 21, 2021. Jared Padalecki takes on the titular role in his first outing after wrapping up 15 years on the network’s juggernaut series Supernatural. Texas Ranger Cordell Walker is haunted by the death of his wife Emily (guest star Genevieve Padalecki) as he returns to Austin after two years undercover.
Much of the drama centers on Emily’s suspicious killing, but Walker also must reconnect with his creative and thoughtful son August (Kale Culley) and his headstrong daughter Stella (Violet Brinson) while navigating clashes with his parents and brother. He also finds unexpected common ground with his new partner Micki Ramirez (Lindsey Morgan), one of the first women in Texas Rangers’ history. – MA
Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous Season 2
Jan. 22 on Netflix
Netflix and Dreamworks Animation’s Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous really could have been a phoned-in effort. The formula to success on such a series would appear to be: get the coveted Jurassic World license, animate some dinosaurs, throw the product out there, and profit. It’s to the show’s credit, however, that it sought to be a much more entertaining and enriching experience in its first season than mere IP mining.

The Blacklist Season 8
Jan. 22 on NBC
When The Blacklist returns for the remainder of its eighth season on NBC, expect the already rapid pace to be increased. “The next season, season eight, starts in a much more heightened and dramatic place than normal seasons do,” writer and producer John Eisendrath told Cinemablend. “We are gonna tell the story that we were unable to tell at the end of last season.”
The latest season continues the ongoing saga of enigmatic antihero “Concierge of Crime,” Raymond Reddington (James Spader), the world’s most-wanted criminal who – unbeknownst to the general public – enjoys an immunity deal with the F.B.I. in exchange for leads about his vast array of criminal contacts (the titular blacklist), frequently shadowed by special agent Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone), who, as revealed later in the series, happens to be the daughter he conceived with a deadly Russian spy. – NH
Fate: The Winx Saga
Jan. 22 on Netflix
Netflix has taken on the daunting task of adapting Winx Club, a beloved Nickelodeon animated series, into a live action teen fantasy series called Fate: The Winx Saga, which drops its six hour-long episodes on Jan. 22, 2021. The story follows Bloom (Abigail Cowen) as she adjusts to life as a fairy at Alfea College, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld, where she must learn to control her dangerous powers.
The live action series promises to be darker and edgier than its predecessor as the fairies fight the Burned Ones, but Fate: The Winx Saga hopes to capitalize on the original’s iconic set of strong female characters to build an equally addictive genre series. The male specialists from the animated series will also be on hand, including Bloom’s love interest, Sky (Danny Griffin). – MA
Charmed Season 3
Jan. 24 on The CW
Like many a network TV show, Charmed was forced to cut its second season short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which left a lot of plot threads hanging—the biggest, a brewing battle against the Faction. Season 3 promises to see that power struggle through, with Macy, Mel, and Maggie jonseing for a fight in the trailer.
“I’m afraid not even the Charmed Ones can survive the death of all magic,” we hear someone voiceover in the sneak peek. If you’ve given this reboot a pass because you’re loyal to the original, now’s the time to reconsider. This show is forging its own path, and it’s filled with supernatural delights. – KB
Snowpiercer Season 2
Jan. 25 on TNT
The original 2013 film Snowpiercer has gone down in history for two main reasons. First of all, it’s another superb entry into the film canon of director Bong Joon-ho, who would go on to strike Oscar gold with Parasite. Secondly, it’s the movie where Chris Evans earnestly delivers a line about eating delicious babies. Beyond even those two heavily memeable factors, however, Snowpiercer is a great, exciting, and class-conscious movie.
The real surprise about the film Snowpiercer, however, is that the TV series it inspired is also pretty good! After some behind the scenes difficulties and a slow start, Snowpiercer chugged right along in its first season to become one of the more interesting cable TV dramas on television. Season 2 is set to become only more intriguing with the addition of Sean Bean as the elusive Mr. Wilford and with the train quite literally coming off the tracks. – AB
Resident Alien
Jan. 27 on Syfy
Sometimes a title is so good and so of its moment that the powers-that-be have no choice but to make a TV show out of it. Such is the case with Syfy’s Resident Alien. “Resident alien” is, of course, a (rather outdated) term for an individual residing in a country without having yet achieved citizenship. It also brings to mind the concept of actual outer space aliens. Resident Alien, based on the comic of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, takes that latter concept and just runs with it.
Syfy’s adaptation will star Alan Tudyk as the titular resident alien, Captain Hah Re/Dr. Harry Vanderspiegle. After “Harry” crash lands in a small Colorado town, he must go undercover as a doctor, while also…solving a murder mystery? This all sounds like a fascinating mashup of genres with a satisfying arc at its center. Also Linda Hamilton is involved, so that’s pretty rad. – AB
Firefly Lane
Feb. 3 on Netflix
Veteran actresses and former TV doctors Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) are coming together for a new take on a decades-spanning dramedy a la This is Us for Netflix. An adaption of the bestselling novel by author Kristin Hannah, Firefly Lane finds the pair set on teaching audiences that “the greatest love story of all can be between friends.”
With a story spanning 30-years, the pair of friends experience tragedy, triumphs, love triangles, and all of the tear-jerker, life-affirming moments one can hope for. Ali Skovbye (When Calls the Heart) and Roan Curtis (The Magicians) will portray younger versions of Heigel and Chalke, respectively, and the rest of the cast is rounded out by Ben Lawson (Designated Survivor), Yael Yurman (The Man in the High Castle) and Beau Garrett (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce). The 10-episode series hits Netflix on February 3. – NH
The Equalizer
Feb. 7 on CBS
After successful big-screen adaptations with Denzel Washington, The Equalizer is back on television this winter, this time with Queen Latifah stepping into the role as the titular protector. Latifah stars as Robyn McCall, an underground vigilante who is the crime fighter you call when you can’t dial 911.
Balancing being a mother with helping the defenseless by any means necessary, McCall must evade those that seek to harm her as well as Chris Noth’s CIA Agent William Bishop. The series also stars Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black), Tory Kittles (Colony). and Adama Goldberg (Taken, Fargo). The reimagining premieres on CBS on Feb. 7 after the Super Bowl. – NH
Black Lightning Season 4
Feb. 8 on The CW
Black Lightning’s fourth and final season will pick up where its many season three storylines left off. Jefferson Pierce and his family are still fighting to keep what’s left of Freeland safe. Following congressional approval for a boarding school for metahumans last season, expect to see Dr. Stewart working on that, and it’s hard to imagine Jefferson not being involved as well.
Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain return as Thunder and Lightning, although we’ll be seeing a bit less of Jennifer as McClain had already decided to leave the show after this season before it was announced as the final one for the show. There’s a Painkiller spinoff in development, so expect a backdoor pilot. Crime boss Tobias Whale is still at large and Gravedigger is still out there, and Jefferson no longer has Billy Henderson to have his back, so things might get a little rough. – DH
Clarice
Feb. 11 on CBS
How do you make a show centered on Clarice Starling, author Thomas Harris’ FBI agent trainee popularized on-screen by Jodie Foster in Jonathan Demme’s Silence of the Lambs, without her most famous adversary Hannibal Lecter? Well, CBS is going to try. Rebecca Breeds stars as the titular agent in this sequel series, which finds Starling heading back to her native West Virginia to work a case while her mind is still preoccupied by her experiences hunting Buffalo Bill.
The series will also feature Starling’s FBI colleague Ardelia Mapp, played by Devyn Tyler, and kidnapping survivor Catherine Martin, played by Marnee Carpenter. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jenny Lumet said, “She came face to face with the worst of what we have and the worst of what we are, and lived through it. If you imagine a puzzle box of puzzle pieces all thrown up into the air – that was the experience that she had with [serial killer] Buffalo Bill.” Unfortunately due to legal reasons, the series cannot mention Lecter, which should be an interesting hurdle, but will explore the shared trauma between Martin and Starling. – NH
Tribes of Europa
Feb. 19 on Netflix
German science fiction captured Netflix viewers’ hearts with the time travel series, Dark, and now the post-apocalyptic Tribes of Europa hopes to do the same when it drops its six-episode season on February 19, 2021. The series follows warring factions in the harsh future of 2074 who discover a crashed ship containing a powerful, cube-shaped artifact.
Three siblings Kiano (Emilio Sakraya), Liv (Henriette Confurius), and Elja (David Ali Rashed) get caught in the middle of the bloody war over the cube and are forced to forge their own paths. There’s also the question of what caused the apocalypse and what might be threatening humanity’s existence while the tribes fight amongst themselves. – MA
For All Mankind Season 2
Feb. 19 on Apple TV+
As with many an ongoing Apple TV+ show, many missed the first season of this science fiction drama from Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore. And, as with many Apple TV+ shows (obligatory Dickinson shout out), it’s time to reconsider. For All Mankind is an alternate history exploring a world in which the Soviet Union made it to the Moon first, and the global space race never ended.
Joel Kinnaman stars as astronaut Edward Baldwin, but this drama isn’t all white dudes in space. The Soviet Union’s emphasis on diversity in its space program has forced America to do the same, training women and other minorities for space exploration in a way that didn’t happen in our reality. A fascinating blend of real-life history and an imagined path, For All Mankind is a worthwhile watch for any sci-fi nerds out there and, with a Season 3 already greenlit by Apple, holds the promise of more narrative to come. – KB
The Flash Season 7
Feb. 23 on The CW
In a post-Arrow world, it’s up to The Flash to bear the standard of the Arrowverse. Err Berlantiverse. Scratch that, CWverse, apparently. And it will do that with the speedforce destroyed, Barry Allen losing his speed, and Iris trapped in the Mirrorverse. Season 7 will pick up with Team Flash at an all-time low, with Cait MIA and Mirror Mistress Eva McCulloch victorious.

The Flash Season 7: Jay Garrick Will Return
By Mike Cecchini
Of course one person won’t be returning. Hartley Sawyer, who plays Ralph Dibny AKA Elongated Man, was fired for his racist and sexist tweets back in August, what feels like a solid five years ago. Joe West’s story arc will be inspired by, “the societal changes happening in today’s world,” which sounds like a euphemism for systemic racism, white supremacy, and police brutality, a weightier topic that veteran actor Jesse L. Martin would do an excellent job handling. – DH
Superman & Lois
Feb. 23 on The CW
The CWverse is at a real crossroads. With Arrow done, The Flash past its prime, and Supergirl and Black Lightning nearing their ends, DC TV’s hold over small screen storytelling is loosening. Superman & Lois, as well as a new-hero-driven second season of Batwoman, are looking to change the direction of that momentum. The former is betting on a different screen adaptation of Superman than we’ve seen in recent years: Superman as a parent.
Superman & Lois is looking to tell a small town story, one led by title characters who are firmly into adulthood and have some very relatable problems—namely, the complicated pressures of raising their two teenage sons while also working. In a time when many parents are feeling the immense weight of childrearing more than ever, Superman & Lois may just end up being one of the most cathartic shows of 2021. – KB
The Walking Dead Season 10B
Feb. 28 on AMC
Wait a minute, didn’t The Walking Dead season 10 finale already premiere a few months ago? Indeed it did. The Walking Dead concluded its 10th and now penultimate season with “A Certain Doom” on Oct. 4, 2020. Due to a major delay in airing said episode because of the coronavirus pandemic, however, AMC decided to go ahead and reward loyal viewers with some extra season 10 episodes.
The Walking Dead season “10B” will consist of six loosely-connected installments that each follow different characters and will help bridge the gap to the show’s 11th and final season. In order, the episodes will be “Home Sweet Home” (Maggie-centric), “Find Me” (Daryl and Carol), “One More” (Gabriel and Aaron), “Splinter” (Eugene, Ezekiel, Yumiko, and Princess), “Diverged” (Daryl and Carol again), and “Here’s Negan” (Guess who). While this extra half-season clearly exists in part to milk AMC’s zombie cash cow as it nears the end of its life, the storytelling possibilities under capable showrunner Angela Kang are undeniably intriguing. – AB
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
March 19 on Disney+
One of several Marvel TV offerings coming to Disney+ this winter is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which got pushed from its original August 2020 release date to March 19, 2021. The miniseries picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame as Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) team up for a global adventure that will apparently test their abilities and their patience.
Daniel Bruhl will reprise his role as Helmut Zemo, the Sokovian citizen turned terrorist mastermind who, in Captain America: Civil War, engineered the rift between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. Emily Van Camp also jumps from that film to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as SHIELD Agent Sharon Carter, grandniece of SHIELD founder Peggy Carter. Wyatt Russell will play John Walker, better known to Marvel fans as USAgent. – MA
Solar Opposites Season 2
March 26 on Hulu
Through four seasons Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon’s Rick and Morty has proven itself to be one of the most exciting and narratively complex animated series around. So folks could be forgiven for assuming that Roiland’s next animated effort, alongside Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan, would be all but an equally brainy carbon copy. But while Solar Opposites has the same animation style and intergalactic environs as Rick and Morty, season 1 proved that this was a hilarious beast all its own.

Solar Opposites Character Guide
By Joe Matar
Solar Opposites is essentially Roiland’s version of a wacky neighborhood sitcom. The neighbors at the show’s center just happen to be outer space aliens technically charged with overtaking the citizens of Earth (they swear they’ll get around to it eventually but don’t seem too motivated). Season 2, which was ordered at the same time as season 1, will continue the Earthbound adventures of Terry (Roiland), Korvo (Thomas Middleditch), and their two “replicants” Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) and Jesse (Mary Mack). Solar Opposites was not afraid of some serialized storytelling in its first season, and who’s to say we won’t get another background story as epic as The Wall saga. – AB
Shadow and Bone
April on Netflix
Netflix has experienced quite a bit of success when it comes to bringing fantasy adaptations to its servers. Shows like The Witcher, Cursed, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina have all found success (to differing extents) on the service. It’s no mystery then why the streamer would go out and snag the rights to Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy.
The first novel in the trilogy, Shadow and Bone, lends its name to this live-action adaptation. Shadow and Bone is set in a world that’s divided in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness. When orphan Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) discovers she harnesses a particular power, she gets to work trying to unite her country. The Grisha trilogy is well-known for its effective Russian-influenced imagery and is sure to be a production designer’s delight when it premieres in April. – AB
Loki
May on Disney+
The month of May is a bit late to be considered part of “winter” TV season, but depending on where you live in the world, it will probably still be snowing anyway. And plus, it’s not like we can turn down an opportunity to include the third, and in many ways, most intriguing, Marvel Disney+ series.

Owen Wilson’s Loki Character is Based on a Beloved Marvel Writer

By the time Loki rolls out in May, viewers will already have gotten a good idea of what Marvel’s Disney+ offerings are all about thanks to WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Still, it seems as though Loki (like its titular character) will have plenty of tricks up its sleeve. Based on the bonkers first trailer, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is primed to jump from the events of Avengers: Endgame right to the offices of the Time Variance Authority where he travels through events in human history…and also somehow becomes D.B. Cooper? Yeah, this is going to be wild. – AB

Robotnik Art Historia- Part Three: A World Without Robotnik
Hello and welcome to the Robotnik Art Historia, where we chronicle and examine Robotnik’s visual depiction throughout the history of the Archie Sonic comic!
In the aftermath of Endgame, the comic was left to deal with a massive shift in the status quo- Dr. Robotnik, the central villain of the book and the cause for almost every single conflict that had occurred within it, was gone now. And unlike the last time it had happened, he wasn’t coming back any time soon. Furthermore, thanks to the events of Endgame, Echidnapolis was now returned to Mobius, revealing a surviving population of Echidna and prompting Knuckles to uncover the mysteries of his own heritage. The landscape was changed for our heroes- rebuilding the kingdom, confronting other menaces trying to fill the void left by Robotnik, and the issue of Robian Rights now took up the book’s time.
Whether any of this was executed well is a matter of opinion (in the case of the Echidna? Not at all), but the point of order is that Robotnik was gone now, but his actions continued to influence the book despite his absence. His presence would still be felt though via flashbacks and Pro-Art, and it was during this time that the details of his past would finally come out, all leading towards his eventual return... or WAS it?
This time gave us a lot of variety when it came to bolt boy, and also gave us what was in my opinion the best artist ever to draw Robotnik. So, let us dive into Robotnik during the Post-Endgame days!
12. Nelson Ribeiro
A man with a somewhat sporadic career at Archie, Nelson Riberio’s take on Robotnik was definitely one of the weirdest looking ones. First showcased in a Pro-Art piece, his Robotnik was noteworthy for turning Robotnik’s belly symbol into a harness worn on his body, making Robotnik’s hands REALLY tiny, and for giving his robotic arm a hyper-technological texturing... and I have no idea why he would wear a glove OVER the arm, but there you go. Oh, and then of course there’s the fact that his ear implants are *literally* bolt shaped, and the fact that his cranium is especially tiny and pointy here. There’s a Pinhead Larry joke in there somewhere... but yeah, what else can be said? Ribeiro’s take on the doc is definitely one of the stranger ones out there.
13. James Fry
James Fry’s first contribution to the book would be not as a regular artist, but as the creator of a piece of Pro-Art, which happily enough managed to feature Robotnik himself. Possessing an expressive, heavily anime influenced art style that jived well with the book, he would be a worthy addition to the art staff in the Post-75 era of the book. As such, his own take on Robotnik was quite stellar- interestingly he seemed to make Robotnik’s mustache much more wild and frazzled and wild than it was normally depicted, taking up his entire upper lip.
14. Ramona Fradon
Ramona Fradon did only a single piece of art for the book, but her history outside of Sonic is actually quite incredible- her career goes all the way back to 1950, having worked as an illustrator for Aquaman and Brenda Starr, and she is particularly notable for being the co-creator of DC’s own shape shifting superhero, Metamorpho! Her work on Sonic would only be limited to a single image, but it was a good’un- her Robotnik is veeery well drawn. Dig the turkey neck the guy’s got going on there!
15. Mike Kazelah
Another for whom Sonic was but a speedbump in a much more distingushed career elsewhere, Mike Kazelah worked extensively in comic adaptations such as Futurama, the Simpsons and Ren & Stimpy, as well as working in animation. His sole Sonic contribution was a bit of Pro-Art showcased in Knuckles #22, and here the Ren and Stimpy influence really shows itself as he gives us a particularly egg-cellent take on the doc. Definitely would’ve been a great fit for the old gag comic days, that’s for certain!
16. Jim Valentino
Jim Valentino is one of the most noteworthy individuals to work on the Sonic comic, but not for his work on the comic itself- rather, he is noteworthy for being one of the founders of Image comics, a former Marvel Artist who banded together with his fellow hotshots Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane and (most infamously) Rob Liefeld to form their own company due to dissatisfaction with Marvel’s policies. Valentino himself evidently wanted to work on the Sonic book because his son was a fan, and started out on the Knuckles comic. His frantic art style was not entirely good for the book, and his association with Ken Penders would later give birth to the abortive Image/Sonic crossover. His take on Robotnik (technically the Underground Robotnik, but still, the design is identical) none the less was competent if not especially noteworthy.
17. Steven Butler
I’ve never been shy about this- Steve Butler drew the best Robotnik, in my opinion. While somewhat controversial with the fandom due to his artistic style, I will forever maintain that Butler none the less was legitimately a very talented artist, and his design for Robotnik was second to none. Perhaps the most massive and menacing take on the doctor yet, Butler’s Robotnik struck a fine balance between realism and cartoonishness in terms of proportions and details, causing him to stand out as a figure of intimidation while keeping him consistent with the rest of the book. Which makes it a rather bitter pill to swallow that not only did he not have many opportunities to draw the doc, but half the time it wasn’t even the REAL Robotnik, but Robo-Robotnik in disguise. Still, unfortunate as that was, Butler still managed to give Robotnik a visual depth and dimension that was unmatched, and it’s a crying shame he didn’t have the chance to do more.
Oh, slight aside-
This is awesome. It will always be awesome. It doesn’t have anything to do with the rest of this, I just think it’s super neato, and I find it interesting that out of all the bodies there, only one of them is better looking than how Robotnik normally is and one of them is actually even *uglier*. The implications fascinate me. Man it would have been nice for some of these designs to at least cameo in other zones. Ah well.
And with that, the third installation comes to a close! Two more to go folks, as next time we take a delve into the Sonic Adventure era of things, which would lead directly into what I call ‘The Dark Ages’ of the comic. Buckle up folks, because from here on out it’s a wild and rather bumpy ride!
