To all the Americans on tumblr rn...
I am not American, nor am I old enough to vote yet as I missed being the legal voting age for my province by only about a week- curse my extremely late birthday.
(which weirdly enough has also had such an incredibly tight election that they are still counting the votes right now even though it happened 2 weeks ago because the two parties are basically tied. }
but I am also very worried for you guys way down south. Hopefully America will put the right person into power this time and everything ends up being ok for you all. Not to be too cliché but I am sending thoughts and prayers and I hope you guys all stay safe down there. I honestly can't even imagine how you guys fell- I don't even live there and I've been feeling increasingly nauseous as the hours go by and I have had to offline for the most of the day.
Remember:
To take care of yourselves. Just in general, in whatever way you see fit
You absolutely do not have to live stream the election polling/results thing on TV, doom scroll election content the whole day long, watch the news, or consume any other election related content. As horrible as it feels to say this; the results will be the same regardless of whether or not you are watching it. Sometimes it is just better for you and your mental health to just log off of sm/screens for the night
If it all does feel like its getting too much for you, please log off/take a sm/screentime break
Most importantly, if you haven't already, please vote!!!! I am not American and am barley old enough to be considered a legal voter (Missed my own countries election *tears*) so I can't really help in terms of providing resources but I am sure there are all sorts that can help you I'm sure. I know that its getting late at night; some polls have closed already but not as many as you would think. I found out that most are actually open way later than I thought. As it turns out, some are even open til 1! You learn something new every day I guess!
Just Please, Please, Please go out and cast your ballot and make your voice known, with how close this is quite literally every voice matters!!! GO VOTE!!!
Poll closing times in case you need it (I only included ones that close 8pm and upwards because it is 7:30 at the time of writing this)

I'm not really sure what other useful info I could put as I don't know much about America or it's electoral system but I hope that helps.
A lot of people I have seen have been posting about how they feel sick to their stomach's and that they can't get off the news and how they just feel terrible so...
Things you can do to distract yourself for the rest of the night (And possibly the next few days, idk how long it takes to count votes)
Have an early bedtime/take a late nap (Only go to bed after 9 at least though, otherwise you'll mess up your sleep schedule and make you feel worse.) Just sleep your way througb it if you cant help it.
To add on to point one I often use asmr if I can't fall asleep right away/to distract myself. My favorites are: Jaden Aliana Asmr, Oceans Asmr, Kaitlynn Reha asmr, and my absolute favorite Goodnight Moon ASMR (Check out her babble brook, 1920's, or valley girl series')
Listen to a podcast (I like Rotten Mango- informative true crime, Buzzfeed unsolved- funny true crime/ghost hunting, Look behind you- also true crime, and Chris Chan; a comprehensive history)
Never too late for some cleaning! Clean your house, bathroom, bedroom, closet, do a deep clean.
If your a student like me- do your schoolwork! I know you have some studying or homework that needs to be done! Get on it!! I use the pomodoro method if that does anything
Have a self care night- do an everything shower or fancy bath, make facemasks, mani pedi's ect.
Watch a movie or marathon t.v shows you love/that are comfort shows (Some of my comfort shows are; Bobs burgers, Gravity falls, the moomins 1990, the office, what we do in the shadows, black books, derry girls, moone boy, and all creatures great and small and M.A.S.H. Some of my comfort movies are; Little women, the cornetto trilogy, Emma, Legally blonde, Pride and Prejudice)
Never too late for some cooking! One of my favorite hobbies is cooking and baking (Mostly baking) Make some chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies, muffins, cupcakes or try a fun cake.
Go for a night walk! Just make sure you bring a buddy and some flashlights of you're in total darkness like I am right now. (Love me a Canadian fall! Already snow where I am so of course that means everyone now needs to immediately put up Christmas decorations lol. At least the lights are nice at night)
Spend time with loved ones. Call or text a friend, spend time with your family, roommates, whoever. If your on campus at a uni see if there's literally any activities or clubs open at this hour you can go to
Read. I know you have a tbr you keep meaning to get to
Go on a research rabbit hole about something interesting. Try to learn something new. Some topics to get you started relating to where I live cause why not; Try to learn about : The Animals of Canada, Indigenous cultures and peoples of Canada- ex: try to learn some Cree or Halqemeylem phrases, try to memorize all of our provinces and territories.
Get through any chores you still have to do
Make/do something creative: Play an instrument, record a song, make a collage, paint, draw
Play some music, listen to your favorite songs on loop (Spotify's still collecting data for wrapped!)
Download a videogame on your phone- just one to pass the time even if its total addictive trash. Some ones I like: Moomin town- Idle, relaxing, town building, slowpaced, free, Miriam webster quizitative- free, wordgames, has an end to it, Toca boca hair salon- not free, hair salon game, endless, Toca boca town- not free but there are dupes, dollhouse game, bird bnb- townbuilding, slowpaced, as well theres all sorts of cute isle cat games; I like the grocery store and cafe ones
Make sure to:
Drink water
Eat at regular intervals
take breaks from screens (It'll hurt ya eyes)
get some sleep at some point
Don't sleep all day (Try to get up at a normal time)
if you feel like you need- put screen time limits on your phone. Or as well, turn down the brightness if you feel you have to doom scroll.
That's all for now. Hope you guys are doing ok and that the results are what we are all hoping for. Just know that you are in pretty much everyone's minds and we are all thinking of you (Even if we don't live in America). Stay safe and take care of yourself and your mental health.
Love, thoughts, prayers, and support from Canada/Tumblr and have a good night.
Congrats if you managed to get through this absolute brick of text. I commend you. I'll probably check back in tomorrow.

What English accents do you think they’d have in Cyrodiil other than Yorkshire accents in Kvatch (according to a headcanon by @bretongirlwrites)?
Hope the bugs aren’t biting you too much
(so far no bites or signs of activity since arriving back in the flat!! we're hoping that's the end of it, but of course we'll remain vigilant for the next few weeks until we can be certain :))
anyway! interesting ask. i'm hesitant to map real life cultures 1:1 onto TES cultures, especially when cyrodiil is clearly based on a weird mixture of ancient rome and medieval italy (and when england finds its own TES 'equivalent' in High Rock), but for the sake of answering your ask I'll assume that Cyrodilic (or what the game calls 'common' or 'Tamrielic') is the same as English. This isn't too much of a stretch; if Old Cyrodilic is similar to Latin, it seems reasonable to imagine that Old Cyrodilic + Ancient Nordic + Bretonic languages (which I headcanon to be similar to languages from the Celtic family, with the addition of French) could result in something sounding like English.
so! Cyrods speak English. I'm going to hazard a guess that the Kvatch/Yorkshire comparison comes from Sean Bean being a Yorkshireman, which is cute so I'll leave that as is.
Going further, it would probably help to draw a boundary somewhere between northern and southern English accents. It seems obvious to draw that boundary between Colovia and the Niben. The climates obviously don't map very well, but in terms of culture and vibe, the north is seen as rugged, 'wild' and economically poor whilst the south(-east) is seen as 'civilised', 'cultured' and economically prosperous. Inverted commas because this is obviously a load of bollocks, though the economic disparity is definitely there.
So to start with, I think the Nibenay Basin accent would sound similar to Estuary English (also known as BBC English, received pronunciation, etc... basically what Americans think of when someone says ‘British accent’). Cyrodiil's financial, cultural and political power is concentrated in the Basin in the same way England's international influence is concentrated in London/around the Thames. The 'Basin accent' would be spoken by the Imperial City's upper classes and mimicked by aristocrats across the province, regardless of whether or not they actually hail from the Niben.
(more under cut)
Making a slight exception to the Colovia = North rule, I'm going to say that an Anvil/Gold Coast accent sounds like West Country English. This is because the West Country, whilst being in the south of England, has more in common with the north in terms of how it is viewed by south-easterners. West Country English is associated with farmers, agriculture, and rolling green hills. If you go far enough west, you find the Cornish accent, which I think seems appropriate for sunny, coastal Anvil. A famous example of West Country English would be Sam Gamgee from TLOTR.
I think the Colovian Highlands accent would sound like Cumbrian English. Cumbrian English is spoken in the mountainous Lake District, in the north-west of England and close to the Scottish border. It shares a border with Yorkshire which would make sense given the position of Kvatch, (though I think the Kvatch accent would probably bleed into the Heartlands).
I think the Skingrad/Heartlands accent would sound like (north) Derbyshire English. Derbyshire sits in the midlands, just south of Yorkshire. It is the home of the Peak District (where I'm from!), which is very 'Heartlands' in both vibe and location.
I think the Bruma/Jerall Mountains accent would sound like north-east/Geordie English. Don't ask me for an explanation, i simply feel it in my heart. A famous example of Geordie English can be found in Billy Elliot.
The Chorrol/Great Forest accent would sound like east-midlands English, which is more a group of accents than an accent in its own right, but the important thing is that it’s not as strong as most northern accents (relative to 'standard' / RP english), but is noticeably distinguished from SE English by the short 'A' in words like bath, laugh, grass etc.
Lastly, I think the Blackwood accent would sound like Black Country English. The Black Country also lies in the midlands, but has a very distinct (and strong) dialect of its own, not dissimilar from the brummy accent of Birmingham (made internationally recognisable by Peaky Blinders). This, in my mind, is analogous to the Blackwood's proximity with the Niben yet distinct cultural identity. The Black Country is seen in England as impoverished and uncultured, which I think fits with the negative stereotyping about the Blackwood in-game.
I'm not going to break down the various regions of the Niben because I think, like in the south-east of England, there would be less variety in accent. If you want to break the Imperial City down into its different districts, you could easily do so with the various accents of London (e.g. Waterfront Cyrodilic could sound like Cockney). In general, I think the upper-middle classes and the aristocracy will speak with a Nibenese accent no matter where they're from, in much the same way 'RP English' is seen as the universal 'middle-class' accent of England.
Hope this helps!
#ask#thelonghanddaydream#this answer makes a lot of assumptions and i don't agree with all of them myself but if you want english accents in Cyrodiil#this is what i'd come up with :^)#tes#teslore#oblivion#take everything with a pinch of salt i'm not a linguist by any means and all of this will be influenced by own upbringing#long post

Hey I was hoping I could get a cod pairing? Sorry I haven’t done this before.
Umm as for appearance I am 5’4” I have layered curly brown hair that comes to just above my shoulder, blue eyes, freckles pale as hell, a few scars here and there that I’m kinda proud of (from various causes) I don’t really have a specific style it can range from a tank top and sweats to t-shirt and jeans or something completely wild, color coded decked out in jewelry, skirts, layers the whole bit. Relatively active build, used to be a gymnast until an injury now I just workout twice a week w a friend. Interests; I like movies top five rn probably Scream (1996), Spiderverse, 10 things I hate about you, the last unicorn, Dead poets society, +Star Wars cause I can’t leave it out. I like playing chess every now and then, I’d say I’m pretty good but I still have a ways to go. I’m also an artist, and I like music I can’t do anything music related I just like listening to it, all kinds. I like baking when I’m stressed, typically cookies during finals week at 2 am. My future prospects, or at least what they are currently, is just going to law school, after that I’m not really sure, I’ve thought ab going the military route, both of my parents served/are serving, so I’ve thought ab the possibility of being a military JAG or something in Intel, but I’m still feeling for it, I mostly like law cause I’m pretty good at it and I like knowing more than people. I’m Bi so my taste in Men/Women varies. As much as I’d like to say I don’t have a type, hot people are hot, there have been patterns in the past few fictional guys. Tbh my taste in men is shit, like I don’t have daddy issues, I have a great relationship with him, but my past fictional crushes say other wise. But basically, capability is HOT, if they’re good at something to the point of mastering it I’m entranced. Women are just pretty, there’s not much there. I’m relatively paranoid, even describing myself like this online is strange, I think it’s just growing up around military but I’m typically just cautious. That and trust issues. I’ve done some martial arts/self defense and I think sparring is really fun I just need someone to teach me. Also I am a huge simp (with shit taste as my friends say) I’m an ambiavert, so I like to be pretty adaptable depending on who I’m around. I’m also German/American but more American than anything else, I ‘grew up’ in south Germany and we still have family there but since we moved here I’ve forgotten most of it. JFC in hindsight I am SO SORRY about all this I got carried away. I hope it didn’t come across as self absorbed 😅😭 sorry again
thanks
John Price
a/n omg at one point of time i thought of going to law school instead of pharmacy so this was so interesting to see what could've been lol
How you met: Civilian as of rn ;) Here you stood, a second year of law school done and accepted into the US Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. Or I guess I should say, here you were physically but not mentally. When you applied from your cozy apartment, you hadn't expected the internship program to be such a challenge. But here you were in your second choice location of Washington DC (curse whoever got the Germany placement). It was your second day and you were already tired from the 6am wakeup time followed by whatever your trainer saw fit. Today was a grueling 4-mile run. Needless to say, you were exhausted by the time you entered the Military Justice office. As you entered, your attorney joked, "you look like hell." You rolled your eyes and tried to smooth out your hair. "Here take a break and make some copies for us," as he handed you a pile of papers. You looked and saw they were drafts for an attorney's prosecution memoranda. You left to make your way to the copier when you bumped head first into something. As you looked up, you realized it was a someone. Somehow this man had miraculously caught all your papers. "Sorry love, perhaps you could tell me where I would find a General Shepherd's office?" he asked in an enchanting, deep accent. You could feel the air fill with cigar smoke with each word. You silently pointed in the direction of the office and the man went on his way. "It gets easier, soldier, someday you'll be an officer," he called out and you smiled as you got up from the floor.
A peek into your relationship: This was the big day, your graduation from law school. Your time during your internship had paid off, many officers impressed by your ability to keep up with the trainings and your eloquent legal drafts. You sat in your seat nervously and twirled a loose curl as they prepared to call your name. Finally, it was time. As you walked on stage and prepared to get your hood, you could instantly hear your boyfriend cheering you on loudly. "That's my girl!" he shouted and you gave him a kiss from the stage, finally a lawyer. When the ceremony had finished, Price was the first one to greet you. He had dressed in a suit for the occasion but this didn't deter him from picking you up and spinning you around. "I'm so proud of you," he said before planting a soft kiss on your lips.

Convergence on Lawndale - Part 8
“What’s happening, Amiga?” Jane asked.
“The Doctor, again,” Daria answered.
That was all Jane needed to know. “Gotcha.”
Daria then filled her in on what was happening, including the portal to Middleton.
“I see,” Jane said when Daria had finished.
“We need to look out for unusual activity.”
“Of course.”
Quinn met her friends. “Quinn!” Stacy Rowe called out.
“Hi, Stacy,” Quinn said warmly.
“You were with that guy again, weren’t you?” Sandi Griffin asked in an icy tone.
“Sandi!” Quinn cried out. “Not right here…”
“And why not?” Sandi asked.
“I don’t want the whole school to know!” Quinn retorted.
“I guess not,” Sandi said.
“Peter Parker!”
Peter turned to see the Asian American women coming towards him. “Angela Li, is it?” he asked. He resisted the urge to compare her to J. Jonah Jameson.
“Yes. Principal of Laaawndale High! I’d like to know why the School District forced me to accept your employment here!”
“I not certain why?” Peter said quietly. ‘UNIT will have to smooth some feathers over I guess,’ he thought.
“Now I have to find where to put you at short notice!”
“I could help with either Science or Art,” Peter said.
“Science may not be a good idea,” Li said. “The head teacher is a misandrist!”
“Right.”
“Art would be a better option,” the Principal said. “Accompany me to the Faculty Office!”
“Of course,” Peter responded as he followed Li.
Clare Defoe was surprised when Li entered the faculty office. “Angela?”
“Good Morning, Claire. This is Peter Parker, a new assistant who has started here today. I am assigning him to you.”
“I wasn’t aware of this,” Claire said.
“It was a last minute decision by the District,” Li admitted, before leaving the room.
“What area of art do you specialise in?” Claire asked.
“Photography.” Peter answered.
“I see,” Claire said. “It so happens that I do have a photography class this afternoon. How are you in the dark room?”
“I’m competent,” Peter answered.
“Good.”
Kim and Ron arrived at Cranberry Commons. “It’s about the same size as the Mall in Middleton,” the latter said.
“This is going to take a while,” Kim realised.
“Probably too long,” Ron said.
“But we’ll try to be quick.”
The first period went by without any problems. Something happened in the second period. The electrical power in the school flickered.
In the TARDIS, an alert came up on the Scanner. “What?” the Doctor asked as he looked at it. Something was happening. It was interfering with Lawndale’s electrical grid. He set it to scan closer.
In Cranberry Commons, Kim and Ron saw the flicker.
“Uh oh!” Ron said.
Rufus agreed with him.
“Something’s happening,” Kim commented.
“But what causing it?” Ron asked.
“No idea, but we have to get back to the Portal.”
“Right behind you, KP!”
The Doctor narrowed down the source of the interference. It was somewhere between the location of the device, and the location of the portal. He decided to investigate it straight away. He didn’t have anything else to do anyway.
As they left the Mall, Kim took out the Kimmunicator and used a scanning function to try to find the source of the interference. The information came back a few minutes later. “It seems to be coming from somewhere downtown.”
“Not from the portal?” Ron asked.
“No, but somewhere to the south of it.”
With the flicker, Peter’s Spider Sense picked something up. ‘Uh oh!’ he thought. He saw Quinn shoot a glance in his direction, along with one of her friends. The one with the pigtails. The latter one came over. “There’s nothing happening, I think.”
“Um, that’s not why I came over,” the girl said, although her voice betrayed the lie.
“Then why?” Peter asked.
“Um, I’m trying to make sense of these camera settings,” she said giving him the sheet he had handed out earlier.
“You don’t need to know all of them,” Peter said. “Um…”
“Stacy,” the girl said.
“Stacy. You’re worried about the flicker, aren’t you?”
“Um, yes. It wasn’t the usual flicker!” she said quietly.
Peter figured that there was something about Stacy but he couldn’t put his finger on it. “Something may be happening, but let’s focus on the classwork for now.”
“Um, sure.”

There's another slew of companies these are to be purchased today and it's a portion of them most all of them are 30% or better meaning more than 30%::
*it's like ATK it's a motorcycle company and it is not Harley Davidson yet it's victory motorcycle Believe It or not we've got to call this morning and it was from John remillard no it's from his office and he just makes a list and they want to sell the company and they actually still have dealerships and there's selling some bikes and we have a whole bunch of them coming out and we examine them we at least have 50%. It's not that many but right now it's a lot and it would help and get things going it's really ridiculous when people have done to themselves we're going to get that going and we're going to get it going good we have a lot in mind to do we are going to be purchasing 30% and we would be only with that amount in the company but we would be bringing in staff and Manning it and helping to get the company back on his feet we suspect they would sell maybe 40% to us within the first two weeks they want to know that the company will work
*it's like ATK no it is a TK it's a company that's been closed and shuttered for 15 years almost it's more like 10 but it's pretty big in that they had a lot of shops and most of the stuff is probably ruined but the tools and equipment could be brought back and we could be pumping out dirt bikes in a few days and he says that's another thing that can trailer up with and she's saying no because you drive a dirt bike around and he says I don't have to I can just fool around with it in a small field and not go fast and just kind of trail ride and she says good we can do it together and he says that's terrific it's a date and I'm happy about it she says I'm smiling and I want to see him and it's hard that way but it's not that hard. We're going to go ahead and help them out with it she really needs him to be there and he says I have two bikes here and she's laughing cuz it's a whole bunch of people saying stuff and it's going to be a hell of a day she says. And it does help. The company is worth a lot but they're not selling it for too much that's the name it's the rights it's the copyright it's the design and facilities and locations and even some dealerships mostly their headquartered in upstate New York which is shut down but we can move those places and we're courting it off now and we'll move it down to the south of Buffalo and that would explain the movie he says with DeSantis and he's a ATK fan I guess he's threatening for it and doesn't know who to threaten and that's actually the main plant and it's like five dealerships up there and if you bring it down there it's going to sell like madness these bikes are kick ass they're like Husqvarna so what are you designed it after there's more companies and will probably have to belt them out
*OnStar navigation system for private automobiles we're purchasing 35% and we'll have controlling share, microwaves by Oster and we are purchasing 35% will have controlling share, all sorts of appliances by Maytag and they're selling now at 35% we'll have controlling share, hotpoints at 35% and we will have controlling share, American standard appliances and fixtures 35% we have controlling share, Ferguson 25% and not controlling share but an interest and will revamp the company, there are several toilet companies it's like Toto or something he says and it's true that's one of them that's two more that are major and we're going to buy 20% and we will have controlling sheriff two of them and Toto is not one of them, William Penn it's a life insurance company but it's an investment company and we're buying it for the investments but we will own the whole thing, Frazier paper in Maine we're buying the whole company Lock stock and barrel just like William Penn William Penn is a pretty good investment company is a good size it's like 1:30 of the world's investments and Frasier paper is gigantic they don't provide paper from Maine anymore but they provide it from all over the world and they don't use mercury nobody does nobody has it's for gold, this company is in Indiana and some mining company Schultz mining and we're going to buy it 35% and we'll have 40% total and improve the company and we'll probably own 100% of it pretty soon, Phillipsburg Pennsylvania mining will own 35% and we will buy 20% more in a few days this is a good size company and we need it for a Pennsylvania steel, light bulb companies it provides 70% of the world's light bulbs at Sylvania and it is Jay giant giant company we're going to buy 35% and we will have controlling share, Grace products is now selling 40% we will have control and share it is a gigantic company and our sons used tons of their products, along with the dirt bike company we are going to purchase Can-Am on a 25% of it and we didn't buy any of it yet and that's all the trumpsters have we're going to try and revamp it it's going to be difficult going and there's a few models we like and we'll build and we want to bring back the reasonable rev trike right now they're not really selling much because their stuff is not so good but they do make schemobiles and we're going to bang those out then I'll save the company it's going to save us a headache the next round is not so high up there but it's still in Canada and it's in Northern New England and they're all going to want these things and our son and daughter say trust me these things really move on the snow and he has been flying very fast on the snow over 100 miles an hour and he was holding on for dear life but he heard they went real fast it was fast they did not know he could do that and he didn't either it's like 130 miles an hour he said he could hardly move and the wind was blowing real fast and he was nervous. And he said it almost run that fast and they were nervous and didn't say anything then he said but it's just my body and they went what the hell is that and I see Newton's before mutants and they found out that you're a giant they started looking at it a lot and I got curious figured out a lot of stuff and said this is impossible no wonder he's smart. We're going to make a lot of these snowmobiles, Polaris 35% but this is the first portion we're buying we're going to make a last snowmobiles there too and they'll probably have to run those plants and make as many as we can we're going to bang them out some of them are pretty big they're like 12 ft long and they toast stuff they have work once that's what they are there's another company that is interested in selling right now is Arctic cat and we're going to talk to them and they know that you did work on some of their stuff so they are confident we know what we're doing,
I'm going to print I have a whole bunch more

Last song:
Current watching: pretty much everything Defunctland has ever made, slowly, in random order
Current reading: i'm rereading one of my old stories to try and continue writing it, but in terms of published material, i'm reading a shit-ton of manga and like six romantasy books at once...oh, also slowly working my way through a few political and social theory books, but they're heavy so i have to take my time and absorb
Three ships: do i just...name ships? or is it implied i ship the ones i name? ok to play it safe i'll list Aragorn/Arwen, Katara/Zuko, and those adorable gays from Good Omens ig (i genuinely do not ship any characters with any degree of passion or enthusiasm...most ships i can look at and go "yeah, sure, i guess that works," but there's literally nothing i defend with my life or want to write about)
Favorite colors: the colors of a neon-soaked back alley (magenta, purple, blue, pink, black)
Currently consuming: an off-brand soda because we be boycotting big brands that support genocide, baybee
First ship: Westley/Buttercup or probably something from Disney, or maybe Goliath/Elisa, but see again my complete disinterest in passionate shipping
Birthplace: the heavily gerrymandered American South

SSO - Fort Maria paintings
This library contains a lot of rather interesting paintings, most of them sadly only related to the druids, but for a part of them, few details are a bit intriguing:
The "roman" temple
Why would we find roman ruins in an island which is on the north of the Baltic Sea ? I guess most people don't think about it but it was my main reaction when I saw it in Epona. Now... That painting could give the start of an explanation: if you look at the ambiance and the light, you'll see it's not in earth anymore, it's in the in-between worlds path. And it's a portal. Maybe a portal to travel on either another world ( roman themed one ?) or on another country, like the Roman empire.
2. The harbour
This one looks rather normal, you can think about Cape West or Fort Pinta... Which one by the way ? There's not the colors of Golden, nor the statue of Fort Pinta, and certainly not the fortifications of the last one, and we know that it was fortified since the start, and the boats are more modern, something you can find in the 50s/60s. So where could it be ? Well, it still can be Cape West if we consider that the permanant autumn weather is related to the witches, but it can also be another sea side city in Jorvik, something on the closed part of the map.
3. The castle
One of the most interesting ones, if not the most. Keep in mind that I don't change the orientation of the screenshot, it's the right side. It looks like Silverglade castle, but... There's like a lake and mountains, full of snow, behind it. But the painting represents spring, there's a blossoming tree here. So... Where it is ? Could it be the lands eras before ?
4. In the sky
It's clearly not an unknown place. Do you remember the cloud event with Mica ? That strange castle silhouette you can see in the clouds ? Well, you have it with more details. We can see something like a plaza and stairs to a higher place, some columns and some trees made of clouds. There's also several winged horses ( why not pegasi ? Because Pegasus is a name, not a specie. Winged horse is a way better term) and one single human girl, probably Aideen or one of her incarnations. I though that it could be a cloud civilization BUT the magic side of the Wildwoods made me think about MPL and I think it's one of their main inspiration, so why not wild winged speaking horses ? It's dumb and childish, right in their current line.
The only question would be: why stairs when they can fly ? Eh... That one is a real mystery.
5. Mystical valley
You will say "Oh but it's a wild forest like in the Wildwoods, it's here ?" Well, since when there's palm trees in Wildwoods ? When you look more at it, the whole light make it feel warmer than the Jorwegian islands, something almost tropical. And... Is it a dinosaur like creature in the water ? Could it be what was the valley of the dinosaur before ? No, there's a south american pyramid on the right side, and a giant head. Plus, you can see some openings in the cliff, like if they were living in it, despite the small waterfalls. But you still can see a horse like creature and the soul riders runes... Very weird mix, making me think that Jorvik and its present location could just be our world's version. If you heard about the String theory, it's based on it. I have a very hard time to conceive Jorvik having both roman and pre-columbian ruins at the same time while being located near Iceland. You'll excuse me people, but having several dimensions looks more logical at that point.
6. The storm
I can't say if it's earth or not, but these rocks are really unique and threatening at the same time. Kinda looks like petrified waves, no?
7. Druidic stone
Another strange forest painting... This one has horses and a druidic stone on it, so I assume it's Jorvik. Once again, it gives a more warm feeling, it doesn't look like it's in the north of Europe at all. There's something prehistorical, I can explain why.
8. Ruins
That one intrigues me like A LOT ! These ruins looks like medieval ones, something from the early medieval era. But why are they that destroyed ? The whole place is unknown to me, I can't figure where it is, and what is the era of the painting.

Double Cross (Jason Todd)
Hi people! So this is my little project I was talking about. A sudden blurb of inspiration led me to this and uh. Here it is! Once again, this is super experimental so yeah idk about its potential. You’ll be the judge of that I guess
This time I worked on time jumps back and forth and perspectives, so let me know how it turned out!
Masterlist in bio/pinned!
Pairing: Jason Todd x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 6937
Warnings: swearing, uhhh idk it’s dc so you know what you’re into
-- 36 hours ago --
Your heart was beating hard against your ribcage as you flew down Washington DC's streets. Your motorcycle was burning under you, and you had a feeling you were on the clock to get off of this ticking time bomb before it exploded and brought you down with it. The bullet holes broke the black paint, decorating your bike in a way that flagged unwanted attention. About six blocks ago, unmarked cars had joined your fast paced parade across the city.
A terrible mistake, all of this was. That was certain.
You took a sharp right, your knee scraping on the asphalt on the way. An infernal noise came out of your bike, but you still willed it to accelerate on the straight alley. You shot back on the main roads like a bullet, swerving around the black police car that had tried to cut you off. But soon enough, you saw the blockade on the street in front of you. You could never jump it with your bike so in disarray, and there were no viable alleys to sneak into. You shut your eyes tight for a moment, then exhaled.
"I'm sorry Jason" You muttered to yourself. "But you left me no choice"
With a firm grip, you pressed the brakes and came to a stop a fair distance from the blockade. You turned off your bike and kicked the foot to hold it up, slowly getting off and pulling your hands up. Shouts erupted around you as the police mobilised themselves in tight formations, guns up and ready to shoot. With one hand up, you undid your tinted black helmet and let it fall to the ground.
"On your knees!" An officer shouted as he approached. "Keep your hands where I can see them"
You complied.
-- Now --
The white of the neons glaring down on you made your already tired eyes hurt, saturating your vision with a harsh and constant flash of light. You were left alone with a room temperature glass of water on your left and your own reflection on your right. You couldn’t hear them, but you knew they were there, observing you. Instead, all you could see was the dark bags under your eyes and your messy greasy hair.
You perked up when two men in suits came in by the door in front of you, thin files in their hands and calculating glances. They were nicely dressed, one with a gray suit and the other, black. Both suits were obviously tailored to them. They sat down in front of you and observed you before the one in the gray suit spoke. Dark hair, blue eyes, taller than the other, maybe around six feet.
“Good morning, Agent”
You only nodded, looking down to the table.
“My name is Agent Baker,” He said. “My colleague here is Agent Tanev. We will proceed to your debriefing”
“Sure” You nodded again.
Agent Baker set a recording device on the desk and turned it on. “Please tell us again why you are here today”
“I am--” You paused, clearing your throat. “I am here today to deliver crucial information on a wanted criminal in exchange for a pardon”
“Which wanted criminal should that be?”
“The Red Hood” You said, meeting his eyes. “I have names of associates, safe houses locations, frequent territories of operation as well as his specific m.o.”
“How come you know all of this?” He asked, his voice neutral. “No seasoned agent has ever managed to get this close to him, let alone a rookie. We want to know how you gained his trust, start from the beginning, spare no details. Leave nothing out”
“I met the Red Hood during operation 7381 in northern Lithuania” You began as Agent Tanev started to take notes. “I was in the back up team for the extraction of General Kradiev from a local opposant group. I wasn’t supposed to even see action, as it should have been simple enough against an untrained mob, but when is it ever…”
They had known you were coming. A whole grab and go operation had been compromised by the feeling of invincibility of the CIA, that looked down so much on whoever they went against that they never stopped to think that maybe--maybe--they were prepared.
So when the Alpha team stormed the country house where the General was supposed to be kept and found it empty, all action plans were thrown out the window. The Beta team was mobilised to close off all the roads surrounding the area and to search for the hostage. You were ordered to search a single decaying house in between two pine trees because the structure was so old, so nobody could have ever been hiding in its debris. However, as you were leaving, you heard whimpers coming from the cellar a few feet away from the foundations. Carefully, you made your way to the wooden doors on the ground, and after making sure your magazine was full and the safe of your semi automatic off, you kicked the doors open and raced down the stairs.
“Don’t move or I’ll blow your head off” You yelled, pointing your gun at the first person you saw. It was clearly a man, wearing a bright red helmet that shone under the single lightbulb hanging down from the ceiling. He slowly held up his hands, but he didn’t seem so bothered. Your eyes found another man next, tied to a chair and wearing a bag on his head. The military uniform was a dead giveaway of his identity, so you returned your full attention to the red helmet guy. “You’re going to back up and face the wall now”
“Or what?” He challenged. “You’ll ‘blow my head off’?”
“Shut up!” You barked, taking a step forward. Your firearm was ready to shoot. “Do as I fucking say”
“You’re CIA uh?” He changed the subject, looking down at your marked bulletproof vest and not listening to you. In fact, he didn’t seem worried at all by the situation he was in. “Should have known. You guys have never cared who lived or died. What fucking difference does it make, as long as they’re good pals with the good ol’ US of A right?”
“God would you just fucking shut up and back up” You were getting impatient, but also nervous. You were alone without backup, with a guy in a red helmet who was clearly taunting you, and you had never shot anyone before. It was your first oversea mission, and already it was fucking catastrophic.
“See, that’s the thing” He held a finger up. “You’re pointing a gun at me like I’m the bad guy, while you are trying to rescue the scum of humanity. You’re going to extract him, give him a nice long life on Florida’s golf courses with the taxpayers' money and wipe out from History the mass graves in the woods two miles away”
You remained silent.
“Oh, did you not know about the mass graves?” He asked rhetorically in a mocking tone. “Your friend here decided he wanted to test the new shipment of automatic weapons, because their bullets per minute capacity had been expanded. And what better targets than the group of students that opposed the american military presence in the country? The youngest was 16 and her name was Vera Beliskava. Isn’t that right, Kradiev?”
He pulled the hood from the general to reveal his bloodied and bruised face. He had been gagged and beaten, that was obvious. He looked at you, pleading.
“You’re the only one who saw” The man in red said, softer this time. “You don’t have to save that piece of trash. Just say your search came up empty and I’ll make him disappear from the Earth's face permanently without leaving so much as a trace. Nobody else will know, and you will go to sleep knowing you made the world a better place”
You took a breath, a million thoughts running into your head. Who was that guy? Why was he here? Why did he not attack you, while he clearly had a handgun strapped on his thigh? Could he be right about Kradiev? You knew he didn’t have the cleanest record concerning human rights, but mass graves?
“Beta team, report”
You both froze as your comm broke the silence. He gave you a challenging look as you were still debating. You wanted to do good, that’s why you went into the secret services. Being complicit in mass murder wasn’t something you signed up on.
“Nothing to report on the north road”
“Clear in the valley”
“Farmer’s house empty”
“No traffic on the south road”
You knew it was your turn now. Slowly, you reached for your comm, not breaking eye contact.
“Pinetree house’s clear” You spoke in a flat line, decided and direct as you lowered your gun. You shut down your comm and glanced at Kradiev, whose relief morphed into fear once again as your decision registered. You averted your eyes.
“You made the right choice”
“I hope so, or I’m dead” You mumbled. “I’m going back now. Don’t make me regret my decision”
“You won’t”
“So just to be clear,” Agent Baker frowned. “You just… Believed him? And you let General Kradiev in his hands?”
“When I left, I went to check, and the graves were there. Kradiev was guilty”
“That was not your decision to make” He pointed out.
“I know” You sighed. “That was my first mistake. I-- I lost it for a moment. He mentioned the graves and the victims and there were so many people the same age as them I could think about and I decided with my feelings rather than my judgement. And I’m paying the price today”
“Alright” He mumbled, passing a hand on his face like he was already done with this debriefing. “When did you cross paths with him again?”
“We were back in America” You continued. “By that time, I was no longer on training wheels. It was a little more than a year later, in Newport Oregon during operation 9004. We were busting a trans pacific drug dealer on the docks when we got unexpected company…”
You were running as well as you could through the maze of freight containers on the docks, trying to push back the pain of the bullet in your leg. You had drawn the fire of the hired gang so your colleagues could proceed, but things went down the drain when you were met with heavier fire than the briefing stated. Outnumbered and outran, you stopped in your tracks and closed your eyes, taking a deep breath. You wouldn’t go out as a coward, that was certain. If you went down, you’d take as many of them as you could with you.
You reopened your eyes and checked the magazine of your gun, letting it drop on the ground and pushing a full one in. You loaded and clicked the safe off, flexing your fingers on the handle as footsteps surrounded you. You spun around and pulled the trigger, but before the bullet even reached your target, two men dropped on his side.
You weren’t the only shooter.
Thinking it was backup from your team, you allowed yourself to back up against a container, trying to stop the bleeding. You were starting to feel light headed, but you still had a bit more fight in you. Soon enough, all hostiles were down, and you were in for a surprise. Instead of the black uniform of your colleagues, you looked up to a red bat, a leather jacket and a familiar red helmet. You squinted your eyes and let out a chuckle of disbelief.
“Do I even wanna know?” You asked.
“I owed you one” He shrugged. “You okay?”
You looked down to your leg, your pants soaked in blood that was already cooling, then back up again. “Peachy” You gave him a thumbs up. “You were right about Kradiev. He was a fucking trash bag”
“It’s often the case” He said as he rested his hands on his hips.
“You here for Hiko?”
“Yep” He nodded, then snorted derisively. “Any tips?”
Ever since Kradiev, you have developed a habit of researching your target better. Most of the time, it was a capture or an execution on site, so it didn’t matter the extent of their crimes. But there were moments when you were extracting the package without knowing what came next, and those times usually meant they’ll make them disappear under a new identity, without giving them any repercussion for their actions. This one, Hiko, was the later case, without any plan revealed for when you get him back. He was a known drug trafficker, but he was also rumored to smuggle people back and forth between Asia and North America through the docks he owned. The Red Hood’s appearance was well timed, to say the least.
“Sneak past the squad through the east” You panted. “If you can move on top of the containers without being seen or heard, you’ll cut them off with about two minutes to spare. Make sure you’re gone with Hiko when they bust through the door, or neither of us will ever find him again”
He paused, studying you. “Thanks…” He trailed off. “Why are you telling me this again?”
“Well, you said it yourself” You managed to smirk. “If I can go to sleep knowing I made the world a better place”
He didn’t answer with anything else but a quick nod before he climbed the containers and disappeared from your field of vision. You sighed, then reached for your comm. “Alpha 003 to central, I’m down and need medical attention, Northwest entry of the docks”
“So if I understand correctly, not only you let him go again,” Baker exhaled, looking bewildered. “But you told him how to get there first? You realize those are becoming serious crimes right?”
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t” You snapped, before recomposing yourself. Both agents had backed away just a little at your outburst. You sighed, running a hand through your hair. “Sorry. I’m just tired, it’s been a crazy last two days”
“Did he offer you any medical help then?” Baker returned on topic.
“No, I called the medics and I was extracted with the chopper” You replied. “I knew he was there for Hiko, not for me. It was a coincidence we crossed paths, and at that point I thought it was the last time I’d see him. I mean, what are the chances, right? But you see, that here was my second mistake”
“How so?”
“The CIA goes after threats to national security, but so does he, in his own way” You said, locking eyes with Baker. “The guy’s everywhere, even where we don’t go. And he’s at least three steps ahead of us at any turn. He has good funds, good intel and exceptional skills. You don’t find him, he finds you. And that’s what he did”
“He contacted you after the affair on the docks?” He raised an eyebrow.
“We could say that...”
You finished washing your tea cup when you heard a thud coming in from your living room. Slowly, you grabbed the gun hidden in your cupboard and held it up, quietly making your way to the next room. You rounded the corner and pointed your gun to the man standing with his back to you, registering his identity as he turned around. You must have been a sight in your baby pink pajama shorts and mismatching turquoise tank top, pointing your handgun to a man in a shiny red helmet.
You scoffed and lowered your gun, clicking the safe back on and putting the firearm on the lamp table. “Breaking and entering, really?”
“Wouldn’t be the worst crime I’ve committed” He shrugged, and you could just imagine him rolling his eyes, whoever he was under that helmet.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, crossing your arms against your chest. “How did you find me?”
“Like I find anyone” He answered like it was the simplest of evidence. You waited for him to continue, but he seemed to have no intention to reveal his methods. This time, you rolled your eyes. “And I’m here because I wanted to check on your leg”
“No you’re not” You snorted. He would have come months ago if it was about that, and even then, the little you knew about him told you he was not the kind to just check upon people who didn’t mean anything to him. “But I’m doing fine, thanks”
“You’re welcome” He nodded. “And you’re right. I need something from you”
“Well, go ahead, since you’re already in” You gestured at him to go on.
“Wait wait wait” Baker held his hand up. “He broke into your house and you just let him? You put your gun down and didn’t call anyone?”
“Yeah, that’s what I just said” You replied slowly.
“And it never occured to you that he was dangerous?”
You paused, thinking your answer over. “No, it didn’t. I mean, if he wanted to get rid of me, he would have done it on the docks where I was an easy target”
“Fair point” Tanev muttered under his breath, earning him a glare from Baker.
“Now do you want to know what happened or not?” You said, annoyed at the interruption.
“Please, go ahead”
He reached inside his jacket and handed you a file. You took it and opened it, staring at the picture and the description beside it. “This is Ian Markstrom, he has been suspected to kidnap young women, mostly tourists, to sell them on the sex trafficking market” He began. “Not only is he friends with your big bosses, but those who were brave enough to try and get him locked up never got anything to stick, and that was the best case scenario. The others either disappeared or ended up dead, so I’m assuming someone in this government does not want Markstrom to stop”
You nodded. “What can I do for you?”
“There’s a secret auction strictly reserved for the elite, Markstrom will sell his best teenagers there” He explained, a hint of disgust in his voice. “The CIA chief of operation received an invitation. I want to know what it says on the card”
“I’m not sure I’m good enough to reach anywhere near it” You mumbled. “But sure, I’ll try”
“No, I believe in you” He said, and he seemed pretty sure of himself. You raised an eyebrow to hide your surprise at his compliment. “What I’m wondering though, is why you’re not asking questions”
“Well, you are two in two so far about targeting the bad guy” You said after a moment. “You seem qualified to spot ‘em, and you’d be real twisted to to make up that scenario for a petty revenge, so I’m guessing you’re on the mark again”
“Huh. You might just be the only smart CIA agent I’ve ever met”
You snorted. “Well, the more it goes the more I’m questioning the integrity of my employer”
“You keep impressing me”
“With what I saw, I believe the bar was pretty low to start with”
“Keep talking like this and I might need a cold shower”
“You’re an ass, you know that?”
He let out a short bark of laughter. “If only you knew”
“I’ll do my best for the invitation” You brought him back on topic, closing the file and putting it beside your handgun. “How can I contact you if I get it?”
He paused, then took a step forward and grabbed your wrist. He fetched a pen from his jacket and wrote a number. “This is a burner phone, which I will destroy after this whole deal. Don’t try and trace me with that, it won’t end well for you”
“Yeah yeah” You rolled your eyes, pulling back your arm when he was done. You cleared your throat, trying to ignore his overwhelming proximity. “I gave you two fast passes just to trick you into seeking my help to finally bag you, I’m busted”
“Hey, listen” He backed up, holding his hand in surrender. “I make that threat to everyone. It’s only a disclosure thing, I didn’t doubt your motivation”
“To each their own I guess” You shrugged. “Alright. If this is all, please get out of my apartment”
“Oop, sure”
Baker blinked slowly. “And did you? Communicate him the details?”
“Yeah” You nodded. “I managed to get into the chief of operation’s office, break into his safe, memorize the date, time and place of the auction and communicate it to Red”
“Red?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Short for Red Hood” Tanev clarified, and judging by yet another glare from Baker, he wouldn’t speak anytime soon.
“He kept it on the quiet, but after that the chief of operation did seem a changed man” You smirked, before dropping it instantly. “And I didn’t hear anything from Markstrom, it was like he disappeared for good, which he most likely did. So I guess the Red Hood succeeded in taking him down”
“Jesus Christ” He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Why do I have the feeling it wasn’t the last law you broke?”
“Because it wasn’t”
“Are you going to make a habit out of dropping out of nowhere to ask me for favors?”
This time, you knew who had broken into your property without even looking. You put the keys into your car and turned the engine on, trying to warm yourself. The Red Hood pulled himself upright from your backseat, shaking his head.
“Your car is very comfortable,” He declared. “You have good taste”
“So that means yes”
“Back at it again with your superior deduction skills”
“What do you want?” You went straight to the point, but you were just a little amused. You could have a worst stalker.
“I’ve been thinking this through,” He began, moved his legs so he was properly seated on the backseat. “You are skilled and you’ve got balls of steel. I could use your help more often. A partnership, if you might”
“Why do I have the feeling it took a lot to admit that and reach out?”
“Because I don’t just trust people” He said plainly. “They disappoint me, among other things”
“So why me?”
“Like I said, skills and balls of steel” He repeated. “You went against the fucking CIA not once, not twice but thrice to do the right thing. That’s enough of a test of will for me. And besides, your job would be an advantage that is hard to turn away”
“Makes sense” You mumbled as you put the car in reverse and pulled out of the parking spot. He buckled his belt like it was a reflex. “Will this partnership imply me shooting bad guys?”
“If that’s what you wish for” He shrugged, leaning forward in the space between the two front seats. “I won’t be the one to limit you”
“Okay, yeah” You nodded. “Where do we start?”
Baker was looking into nothing, processing your words. He shook his head slowly in disbelief before he met your glance. “I shouldn’t be surprised” He spoke after a moment. “But this is Everest high levels of stupid”
“At that time it did seem like a good idea”
“Yeah, might as well jump off of a bridge…” He trailed off, eying you suspiciously. “Did you do that too?”
“Well, if we consider the time when--”
“You know what, don’t tell me” He cut you off. “Please go on”
“Alright” You held your hands up in surrender. “So, where was I?”
You and the Red Hood operated on the field like a well oiled machine. Your expertise and contacts with the CIA helped him get into places way more easily than alone, and your somewhat reckless ways were compatible with his mode of operation. You knew who he was as well, you found out after he nonchalantly took off his helmet after a stakeout. You had not been prepared for what you saw then, when you were faced with what you could qualify with the most beautiful man you had ever seen.
“Hey, you okay?” He waved a hand in your face, making you snap out your daze. You blinked a few times, shaking it off.
“Yeah” You replied. “I just wasn’t expecting this”
“Expecting what?”
“I mean, the helmet did give disfiguration vibes… Obviously I was wrong”
“So you think I’m hot then?” He snorted derisively.
“I do”
His head did a whiplash. “Huh?”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable” You backed away. “Sometimes my filter doesn’t work”
“No it’s--” He tried to find his words, then sighed. “I’m just not used to that, I guess”
“What’s the point of this?” Baker groaned, his head in his hands.
“It’s a turning point that brought me here today” You explained, turning your palm up briefly. “You asked for details, I’m giving you details”
“I kinda wanna know what went down, to be honest” Tanev added sheepishly.
“Tanev, I’m going to drive you through the mirror if you do not shut up”
“Jeez sorry” He mumbled.
“As I was saying”
That day was the moment things changed in your relationship. There was this tension that hadn’t been there before, the little brushes of hands when you were side by side, the staring at the other while they weren’t looking, the unspoken invitations to stay a moment longer after a mission for a cigarette and a good conversation. He was one of a kind, you had to give that to him. He was passionate, driven, smart in a way that told you he never really had it easy but always made it work somehow; the way he always thought of the less obvious way to do things, how even his messes seemed calculated.
It was raining in Chicago and the air was crisp. Your muscles ached from the fight in that warehouse against drug lords that enrolled kids in their schemes, that and from the unforgiving cold of January. You had one too many whiskeys back in that little studio flat he rented under a false name, and it led you straight to his bed. Trying to find warmth, trying to find a connection, it didn’t matter why, as long as you were as close as humanly possible to him.
And it didn’t stop there. The night after, and the night after that, always in his company past the business hours. Your chemistry translated way beyond the field, for you found him in a partner in more ways than one. You grew quickly to feel love for him, more than you had ever felt for anyone. The number of times you woke up naked and tangled with him--
“Okay I don’t need to know this-- I do NOT need to know this” Baker yelled. If he could have flipped shit from the table, you’re sure he would have.
“You told me to spare no details!” You argued. “This is a detail. I’m being as thorough as I can”
“You know what-- Forget it” He brushed his hand in the air aggressively. “Just get to the part we have interest in, for God’s sake please just skip to that”
“Okay, okay” You muttered, rolled your eyes. “It went well for the first months or so, it was great. Nothing to say on that front, I was happy and fulfilled in this new englobing partnership we had going on. That was my third mistake, to get into that kind of involvement with him. Because then, like all good things must come to an end, mine slowly began crumbling down in my hands”
“Okay” He sighed, half in relief. “Tell me more about that”
“Well, he started to show his true colors” You admitted, pulling your hands under the table. “Sometimes, he became something else. Something dark. And sometimes became most of the time, but I was too in love to see it. He became manipulative, controlling. He was everywhere, in everything I did. It’s like I didn’t even have control on my life anymore…”
“Where do you wanna eat?”
You looked away from the car window, your feet comfortably up on the dash. You took a deep breath and shrugged. “Dunno, where do you wanna eat?”
“Don’t really care” He shrugged too. “You decide”
“What about chipotle?”
“Sure” He nodded. “Chipotle sounds good”
Tanev shook his head sympathetically. “He wouldn’t even let you choose a restaurant?”
“Never” You looked down, sadness weighing your voice.
“I’m so sorry you had to live through that”
“Thank you”
“Alright, moving on” Baker broke the moment. “What happened next?”
“Next? Next came what comes every time in screwed up relationships” You answered, returning your hands on the table and crossing your fingers. “We burned like a meteorite as it tears through the atmosphere, falling to our demise to high velocity and taking everything in our wake”
“That was poetic” He pointed out sarcastically. “What the fuck does it mean?”
You raised an eyebrow. “We got dangerous for real, Agent Baker” You paused to take a reserved sip of the water. “If you thought I was reckless before, you’ll need to reevaluate your scale. I was in for real. I was his battle horse, his wildcard, his whatever that he needed to succeed. And I was good at it. The worst was, I didn’t even realize he used me as a smoke screen. He put me more and more often in fucked up situations that were way more dangerous for me than him, and I was naive enough to think it was love”
“No. This is not up for discussion”
You stared at him in disbelief. “You said you would let me choose--”
“I said I would let you choose, not let yourself get killed” He interrupted, slightly raising his voice. “This plan of yours is stupid dangerous. If it backfires, you are almost guaranteed of not making it out free, or alive for that matter. I’m not allowing you to take that risk. Not for me.”
“Again, ‘if’ being the keyword” You insisted, following him as he stomped out of the storage room. “I am capable of executing it flawlessly. I know I am, you’ve always told me I am”
He halted his steps, hesitantly turning to face you. His eyes softened as he sighed, taking your hand. “I know you can, it’s not about that” His voice was back down, even lower than his usual volume. “I can’t lose you. I won’t lose you for something I dragged you into in the first place, I would never forgive myself”
You closed your eyes and rested your forehead on his. “Okay” You finally said, nodding lightly. “We’ll find another way. Another plan. But we’re hitting that ball out of the park either way, I won’t let Preston get away with it”
He smiled. “Oh no, we won't indeed” He kissed the top of your head. “We’ll get him one way or another, I promise”
“I almost feel sorry for you now, Agent” Baker gulped. “I cannot begin to imagine what terrible things the Red Hood forced you to do under his manipulation. We however must continue this debriefing”
“Of course” You nodded quickly, breathing deeply. “So we planned our next move, but he wouldn’t tell me the final target. I found it weird, he always told me the targets. I don’t know, maybe he sensed I was trying to find a way out”
“And that plan was…”
“Yes” You didn’t have to let him finish his trailing thoughts, you knew what he was getting at. “So this brings us to 36 hours ago”
“Be as thorough as you can”
“So the Red Hood gave me those instructions to follow” You began. “I was to draw the attention of the authorities to me in a city wide chase. Now, I am rather good with a bike, that I won’t hide, but outrunning police and secret services? That was impossible. I still don’t know how they got there, but it saved me. He would have never dared to come into the melee to get me back, and risk getting caught”
“Was he not afraid you’d talk to us?” Baker asked. “That was a pretty big gamble”
“He thought I wouldn’t talk I guess, probably for the same reasons I stayed with him for all this time” You said, biting the inside of your cheek until it bled. You hated to think about these words. “Because I believed I loved him”
“I guess that wouldn’t be too far fetched” He hummed. “Wouldn’t be the first time we saw it happen”
You nodded, remaining silent. Baker made eye contact with Tanev, then looked into the reflecting glass. He took a deep breath and returned his attention to you.
“We are going to get you back to the holding cell while we process this information” He said. “But once we do that, you’ll be free, and with a new identity if you wish, as your agreement states”
“Thank you”
“Just one more thing before we wrap this debriefing” He leaned forward. “You must know his name"
“Of course”
“Then what is it?” He asked. “What is the Red Hood’s name?”
You looked down, taking a deep breath, then back again, locking eyes with Baker. Then, you spoke.
-- 36 hours later --
The sunset over the valley was gorgeous. The mixes of pink and orange on the yellowed sky was straight out of a fantasy world, and Jason couldn’t help but appreciate the scenery. It was soothing, like it could swallow up his anxiety at least for a minute or two. He leaned on the wooden ramp, the sightseeing roadside station seeming not so cheesy at the moment.
He only tore his eyes from the burning sun when he heard a motorcycle approach from behind. He pushed himself off the ramp and faced the sleek black bike--the lack of use on it showing him it was brand new--then, the driver with a black tinted visor.
You took off your helmet and smiled at Jason’s stern expression, whose eyes showed relief anyway. You turned off your bike and parked it, then got off and walked to him.
“What the hell were you thinking?”
You walked past him and leaned on the ramp he had been on moments ago, and he joined you. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and offered you one. He lit up both with his lighter, and you took a long draft before speaking.
“A simple ‘thank you’ would suffice” You smirked, bumping your shoulder to his. “I did save your sweet ass, after all”
“I thought we agreed not to do that” He glanced at you sideways. His annoyance was also mixed with playful disbelief, like he both wanted to throw you off the cliff you were admiring the view from and do celebratory shots with you.
“We did” You nodded, chuckling. “But circumstances changed. You weren’t out by the time I reached the monument, so I had to draw them away from you, or we would not be having this conversation. ”
“Still” He tilted his head to the side, before his head snapped in your direction. “Wait, did you call the secret services after yourself?”
You shrugged half heartedly. “Mayhaps” Your lips curved upward, while he shook his head. “I mean, it kinda was my fault too. I misplaced the bomb and it barely detonated. I had to flip to plan B, then they shot my bike. They had me surrounded, and my it was running low on life, so I skipped directly to plan fuck this”
“So you gave yourself up”
"Played the victim, pretended I wanted to exchange information on you for my freedom” You sighed, taking a drag of your cigarette. “None of which was relevant enough for them to even get close to you, worry not”
“They must have asked for a name” He hummed, now turning his full body toward you. “What did you tell them?”
“My grandpa’s name” You snorted. “He died two decades ago. Let me tell you, when they found out the last update on him was in the necrology of the 2001 Sunday paper, they were not happy campers”
“Then how did you get out?” He squinted his eyes.
“Oh, do not underestimate me, sweetheart” You grinned. “I’ve spent my whole career getting to know the buildings and the procedures for people like me. It was a piece of cake”
You were escorted out the interrogation room and into the small, yet cozy holding cell. You were on the clock, because the lies you’ve slipped into your story would unravel pretty quickly once they discovered that the name you gave them was a farce. Then, you wouldn’t be put in a minimal security room, but probably somewhere way less fun.
“Hey wait” You called after the guard before he could close the cell door behind you. He paused his actions, waiting for you to speak up. “This wasn’t there last time”
He frowned and took a few steps into the cell, trying to spot over your shoulder whatever you were talking about. When he didn’t see it, he got closer and closer until he was all the way into the cell. “What wasn’t there before?” He asked, annoyed.
You smiled. “You”
With a quick jab of your elbow behind his head, he fell down unconscious on the floor. You grabbed his keycard and exited the cell, locking the guard in. You winked at the camera on the upper left corner of the hallway and made your way down to the garages as the alarms blared through the whole building. That meant it entered lockdown, closing all the escape routes. But you had your own fool proof plan.
Agent Baker began swearing when the hallway was plunged into the red glow of the lockdown alert. It hadn’t taken long for him to figure out you had led them in circles, and he had appeared a fool in front of his colleagues when he proudly revealed the name of a long deceased old man instead of anything tangible. He had been on his way to your cell when he realized the depth of this foolery, understanding you had been stalling them for this opportunity.
“Sir, we are reporting engine noises in the garages”
“Fuck” Baker shouted, pushing the other man aside. Tanev was a step behind, his weapon drawn. They had stored your bike there, you must have gone back for it. “All units report to the garage, we’re having a break out. I repeat, all units to the garages”
They all flocked to the lower levels, ready to enforce the barrages at the doors and trap you with no exit. It was an excellent execution of emergency measures, but they definitely weren’t prepared for what came next. As they kicked the storage unit of your motorcycle, they came face to face with the bullet ridden bike with no driver in sight. Baker lowered his gun, squinting his eyes. Then, they widened comically as the dark smoke coming out of it and the strong smell of gasoline registered in his brain.
“Motherfucker” He spat. “Everybody out!”
Seconds later, it exploded.
“You’re unbelievable” Jason scoffed, shaking his head. However, he now had a full blown grin to match yours. “I gotta give it to you though, blowing up your bike as a distraction was smart. Balls of fucking steel”
“Of course it was!” You replied, then reached in your pocket for your phone. “And it’s not even the best part, look”
You unlocked your phone and passed it to him, showing him your most recent picture of the CIA’s chief of operation dead with a letter opener through his neck. His eyes widened. “You got Preston?”
You turned around from your position, now leaning back on the ramp with your elbows resting on it. “The bike opened a window big enough for me to get the target” You said, finishing your cigarette and disposing of it in the ash bin on your right. “And with all those idiots guarding an empty garage, t’was easy enough”
“After all this time, you’re still impressing me” He nodded, holding up his fist. “Good fucking job”
You bumped your fist sideway with his, laughing at his baffled expression. The sky was getting darker and darker by the minute, but the air was still warm. You could hear the crickets in the high grass, and the silence was a peaceful one. You could admit that you had cut it close this time, that this gamble could have very well turned to shit, so you just took a moment to let the pressure slip away from your muscles, at least for now. You had the time to smoke another cigarette before you spoke.
“So now what?” You hummed, looking up to the bright stars above your head. “Markstrom’s ring is no more, and I’m pretty sure I not only lost my job by pulling that stunt, but also bought myself a ticket on at least three intelligence services’ most wanted list”
“Well, that’s nothing a good ol’ fake death can’t fix” He shrugged. “But until we find the right moment for your tragic public demise, I’m sure we can manage to find on our own some domestic assholes to beat up. What do you say?”
You met eyes with him, then raised your eyebrows. “I say let’s get to it”

I see that you mostly draw fanart, do you have any original characters?
Yes! I mostly have drawn fanart because Will and Louis are my personal favorite comfort characters and I hyperfixated deeply on them for like three years, but. I do have many OCs. I just don't post about them often since they're usually not related to vore at all, but, I have a few OCs worth mentioning (not counting the very cute jerboa oc I bought recently)--
1. Miki + Cebo, from my unwritten Rivet series!
I'm not gonna post art about them right now because all art with them can be found under the #rivet or under their names on this blog, but. They're very fun! My first ever real vore ocs, based off of south american folklore near the amazon river involving river monsters. I did a lot of research into the location and the backstory put into both of the characters involved with this, but the story itself is largely undeveloped and therefore is sort of on the back burner. I just don't have a lot of energy to put into developing them hardcore yet.
2. The Sisterhood, my paracosm series that is over FOURTEEN YEARS in the making!
It involves alien shapeshifters that typically look Very Similar to normal earth cats, witchcraft, and dismantling oppressive government systems. It's very intricate and currently has four and a half books planned, but I have currently only ever written one chapter for the series as a whole because writing is very hard for me and I get overwhelmed easily. I do have extensive character lists, winding backstories and a LOT of old art I can post of them, though. They've even been featured in a few vore posts here, though usually involving side characters as the main character is fairly young and I don't feel comfortable putting her in a position to be vored unless it is PURELY for protection purposes. I will talk about TSH for hours and I will not stop ever, you can ask me anything and everything and I will answer. I can also give you the link to the first chapter of the series, though it's short and I am too nervous to start writing the second chapter right now.
I would just list off all of the OCs from this that I would be willing to talk about, but that might warrant it's own post. There's a lot of them.
3. D&D OCs! I have a couple of them that I have never once talked about here because the campaign that they're in died down and I invested myself in them RIGHT before I got into Getting in Deep, so I never got the chance to do anything vore wise for them. But. If I ever get the chance to or have inspiration from anything I might try to throw in some fun D&D stuff when I've got time.
4. Seeeeeecret vore OCs! I'm not talking about them yet because they're still in development, but they have something to do with that endosoma thing I mentioned earlier.
I do have other OCs, but, there's not many that I actively participate with at this moment so I don't even know if I remember most of them enough to talk about them. Oh, and, I also draw myself / my fursona doing a lot of silly stuff with vore from time to time, so I guess that KIND OF counts as ocs??? I mean. Look at them.
#asks#faq#drawns#but seriously do ask me questions about these ocs if you want me to post about them more often#because for the most part I do not do many vore ocs but I WILL talk your ears off about the sisterhood#I will talk so much about it#also yes I know I have other asks I am just waiting to do drawings for them#because right now it is 3am and I am too tired to do it now

Uncle Scrooge by Don Rosa: The Isle at the Edge of Time (Thank You Comission For Rosie Isla)
Hello all you happy people! Today’s review is a bit special as it’s the result of another review. See I had trouble finding a translation of the subject of last weeks’ mother’s day special, Family Ties.
No not that one. I have Paramount+. I can watch all the Family Ties I want and that’s a fact that i’m pleased as punch about.
No it was the story 80 is Prachtig, called Family Ties in the copy used, Della’s first major comics appearance and one that explains what happened to her in the classic continuity, one that clearly served as the foundation for her far more fleshed out 2017 versions personality and backstory. It also had Pinocchio in it for some reason, and spent most of it’s large run time on a meta comedy plot that had nothing to do with the reason anyone wanted to read this story in the first place.
But despite being a vitally important story, it never got an english translation, something that baffled me till I read the story and found cameos of the racist indigenous stereotypes from Peter Pan. In 2014. You may commence booing. Even with how weird the story was I simply couldn’t find the story googling it and the Della tag is too vast and deep to go spelunking in.
So what’s all this have to do? Simple I put out a post last month when neither I nor Kev, who wanted to comission it as part of Moons, Millionares and Mothers, my coverage of all three season 2 Ducktales story arcs, could find a copy and offered a review to whoever found it. Weeks passed I got nothing.. then in the 11th hour I got a break as the lovely @rosieisla found a translation that was on this very site, one she seemed to have helped with. As a result I could do the review and as a man of my word, offered it up despite her clearly having not seen that part of the post and simply having done this to be nice. Still she gladly took up the offer and offered me my pick of two stories: The Carl Barks Story Back to Long Ago or this one.
As for WHY I picked this one Back To Long Ago didn’t seem bad, i’m just not a fan of “The Cast is put in the past as their own ancestors” type deals. Or in some cases put the cast as people from that time period. It’s just not for me and is most often done in TV where it can get really goofy, Beverly Hills 90210 being a prime example of this, though Girl Meets World was no slouch in being embarassing... that being said I really need to finish that show and miss it.
So yeah when put up against a story with two intresting hooks and FLINTHEART GLOMGOLD, even if i’ts not the version that’s my boy, it was no contest. So what are these hooks you ask? Well join me under the cut and find out.
We open with a weird stylistic choice: This story has a narrator complete with caption boxes. Now for those of you familiar with comics or pastiches of comics in tv and film, this probably dosen’t seem like a big deal. It was a common thing in comics from their inception to 90′s to have caption boxes, big boxes of text narrating the action to help move things along faster. It did start to fade out by the 80′s and was gone by the end of the 90′s for the most part, replaced instead with first person narration. It’s the kind of thing you’d see most often in the Golden and Silver Ages, with stuff like tihs
It’s not a BAD device, it’s good old cheesy and bombastic fun and some writers did get clever with it.. like that time Chris Claremont used the narration to yell at a greiving cyclops after he lost a teammate early in his long and storied run on the uncanny x-men.
This is a objectively weird scene that’s still somehow effective by the by. On the one hand it does come off as Chris Claremont essentally bullying Cyclops who already feels guilty for a death that was not in fact his fault as Thunderbird was told the plane he was attacking with fleeing villian Count Nefaria was about to explode and refused to listen.. and that they needed to get rid of either him or Wolverine as both served the same purpose and chose the non-white guy.
On the other htough it comes off just as much as Scott beating himself up in his grief and anger over the event and his perceived failings as a leader. It’s good stuff and shows why this run caught on as this was only three issues in. Also the rest of the issue features the X-Men fighting a giant cyclopian demon that Cyclops accidently freed in his rage by destroying the stone thing keeping him imprisoned. No really here’s the cover
Huh so tha’ts what Nifty’s dad looks like. Neat. Also I REALLY hope we get the X-Men fighting aliens or demons in the MCU. Unlike the XCU the MCU isn’t alergic to getting batshit.. and for the record Deadpool and New Mutants are the exception, not the rule.
My point that I swear I do have is that this was common practice for most comics.. but never really for Disney Duck comics. It popped up ocasionally, like with Scrooge’s introduction, but Barks and those after him never really used them that much. Sure they’d have caption boxes for flasbacks and what not but Barks and Co geninely only used this sort of thing to set up a story. The most i’ve seen it in a duck comic is life and times and even then i’ts usually only used for gags or to set up the passage of time, as the story IS covering decades and thus often needed to have montages to show time passing, and in the case of chapter 11, had to cover decades in the span of a single chapter, so it’s not like they had many other options. So even Rosa as a personal quirk didn’t really use these often.
Rosa used this specifically because he felt the plot was complicated by the use of the international date line. As for what it is, it’s essentially a line marking calender dates from one side of the hemisphere to the others. To use the offical defentition from the National Ocean Service I found via a quick google:
“The International Date Line, established in 1884, passes through the mid-Pacific Ocean and roughly follows a 180 degrees longitude north-south line on the Earth. It is located halfway round the world from the prime meridian—the zero degrees longitude established in Greenwich, England, in 1852.
The International Date Line functions as a “line of demarcation” separating two consecutive calendar dates. When you cross the date line, you become a time traveler of sorts! Cross to the west and it’s one day later; cross back and you’ve “gone back in time."
Despite its name, the International Date Line has no legal international status and countries are free to choose the dates that they observe. While the date line generally runs north to south from pole to pole, it zigzags around political borders such as eastern Russia and Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.”
Rosa felt this made the story complicated.... and that... really isn’t remotely true. The narration is mostly used for gagas and really dosen’t clarify anything. it’s mostly used well in the opening.. but the actual explinations for the date line are clear enough in the story that even if I hadn’t looked the thing up, I still would’ve got it and i’m sure a kid would’ve too. It just feels like a weird thing to ruminate on, especially because he’s got actual things to make up for: while to his credit the native american characters he cribbed from carl barks are sympathetic, their culture respected and treated decently and used for a green aseop, their dialouge is stitled and sterotypical something he dosen’t even comment on (And these trades ewren’t THAT long ago)
And of course it dosen’t help that he dosen’t even comment on using a common device in american superhero boooks.. in the same volume where he ONCE again makes an unwanted and outdated diatribe about superhero comics. I’ll probably cover the Super Snooper Strikes again so I can throughly tear this apart but higlights include: Calling superhero comics “Unwanted” just because he dosen’t like them personally, when people like me would disagree and they’ve lasted through a LOT of highs and lows, outdately saying they took over the American market as the only suitable comics which while true for a TIME,but by 2015 when this book was printed is laughably out of date, as non superhero works like The Walking Dead, Saga, and Scott Pilgrim were massively popular, one of my faviorite comics that is entirely slice of life and would go on to bea huge hit, Giant Days, re-debuted that very year. He also has the fucking gal to insult The Uncanny X-Men by name and I swear to god I did not know this when I made those references earlier, but as you probably guessed REALLY god me livid.
And this is just on his COMMENTS on the story I can’t imagine just how bad the content itself is and having read the first few pages which come off as Rosa using Donald to essentially do an “old man yells at cloud rant” about superhero comics, I really don’t want to. Might make htis a patreon exclusive or again would do it on comissoin. You all make the call.... the point is I don’t likes his elitist bullshit about superhero comics, and this is clearly something that gets my hackles up as I just spent a good two paragraphs of an entirely unrealted review yelling at the guy for it. I don’t like when he does this and this authors notes entirley felt like an excuse. I GET the dark age of comics were bad, they REALLY were that bad, but I will NEVER accept painting an enitre genre as bad just because one work in it is bad. And I wont accept it from someone who himself writes about an often throughly unlikeable anti-hero for a living. Scrooge may not have a gun on his gun on his gun or get to stabbing or have pouches, but he DOES finacially abuse his nephew, scoff at people’s personal troubles, and often refuse to use his wealth to help others in general. So yeah in conclusion Rosa really needs to say less about this subject.
Okay so where were we.. right the story hadn’t even started yet. Jesus.
Okay so our story begins with the narrator. Whose going on about time and what not. The main point of this speech about time is that it’s night in Duckburg and Scrooge is going to bed as, even being the workhorse that he is, he can’t keep going 24 hours. While he’s snoozing though something major happens and it’s the hook that made me pick this story along with the international dateline one.. an island rises thanks to volcanic erruption.. and the lava is GOLD. That’s just pure unabashed classic Duck Stuff: a mysterious treasure or phenominon of gold bound to bring scrooge in.
But Scrooge isn’t stupid: the sun comes up and the world still spins while he sleeps, so he set up a satalite to monitor for this sort of thing. The thing naturally goes nuts.. and even more naturally breaks down becasue Scrooge bought cheap parts. A nice gag and a fully in character way to bring our antagonist into the picture, as the Satellite of Loaded falls in the middle of South Africa... right on the property of my boy Flintheart Glomgold.
This is something Rosa brought up in his commentary for the story i’d never thought about. It turns out Glomgold being a citzen of Duckburg WASN’T an invention of the original Ducktales but the comics: some overseas had understandably moved him from his home country of South Africa. Him bieing in the same town as Scrooge instead of half a world away allows for easier setups and more intresting ones.
Rosa however being obdient to Barks Version of things, ketp Glomgold in South Africa like barks did, which was an .. ifffy decision given Apartheid had JUST ended at the time of this story. Not so much in the reboot as not only had apartheid been long gone by the time of the reboot, but that’s more fair. Still we do get some gorgeous vistas as a result as Glomgold’s minon goes to look at it and finds it’s from McDuck Mining company... Glomgold’s reaction is obvious.
So on that note we cut to Scrooge rushing to Donalds house and forcing him awake and not telling him anything at first. Look his Ducktales Counterpart straight up kidnapped his donald in my last review, I’d call this a win. He also tries to dress Donald while explaning both his panic to find the crashed satlitle and what it found: the golden island. The end result of him dressing donald is worth a chuckle
So after Donald puts his shirt and little hat on our heroes get rollin rollin rollin what keep rollin rollin rollin who to Manilla. On the plane we get the scene I mentioned: The boys make a quip about Scrooge having lost a day and the group go over the international date line. It’s a fun little scene especially Donald trying to get paid early at the end. Classic scrooge and donald stuff without the abusive undertones some of their classic stuff has.
Meanwhile Glomgold works out the data and finds out about the gold island, and his excitement accidently wakes a giraffe outside.. welll it was nice knowing him, Giraffes are the deadliest species known to man.. here’s an educational video t back that up....
youtube
So at Manilla Airport, Scrooge finds out abotu the south african crash, figuring he’ll get a laugh out of glomgold being there ... only for Donald to spot the Jet. Scrooge figures this can’t be anything good... now come on man maybe he’s just promoting his energy drink.
As super sayin god super sayian as my witness, I will never get tired of Ultra Instinct Glomgold here.
Scrooge isn’t so nice about that though and figures he better find out if Glomgold knows about the island and bribes one of the fueling crew for his uniform. He sucesssfully eavesdrops on Glomgold talking to his pilot, finding out from him exactly WHERE the island is. He ends up hilariously botching the mission though: when getting ready to leave Glomgold complains abotu the price of gas and that naturally causes Scrooge, just as cheap, to join in... and Glomgold to find out it’s Scrooge. The two wrestle outside the plane but before this can progress to a game of Naked Robber an airport security guy comes up and Scrooge cleverly claims that Glomgold’s plane has an infestiation, requring it to be quanrantined and allowing Scrooge to jet on.. thoguh not with an actual jet. With Glomgold seemingly dispatched, he can afford to save some money and take his time with a seaplane and I know just the man for the job.
Oh nope looks like he’s busy. So one time related rambles later we meet Keoki, their asian pilot from the tiny island of Wookawooka.. and no that’s not a real place i checked... and no Fozzy dosen’t own it his check bounced. That being said it is a very well done represntation of someone from a smaller country: he’s doing this job to try and bring money back home, but being a seaplane captain just isn’t enough and his island is dying. Scrooge naturally is about as sympathetic as you’d expect, having apparently never even heard of the idea of a bonus when Huey, Dewey or Louie suggests it.
Even less suprising is that Glomgold streaks by in his Jet:turns out Manilla was already overun with the bugs Scrooge claimed and Donald rubs it in that had Scrooge got a JET this wouldn’t of been an issue.
So Glomgold easily beats them there, and to add insult and actualy injury to a cash based one, our heroes get blasted by golden lava on the way in and crash. Should’ve gotten launchpad... got the crashing professional. Keoki is dispondent as this means his people are doomed. He also dosen’t know waht staking a claim is when Scrooge mentions it and the boys bring him up to speed with the poor guy saying he wish he could for WookaWooka. Donald also makes a valid point about how greedy and heartlress scrooge can be.. and really billiionares in general.
No no YOUR the Grouch who refuses to have one drop of emapthy. Donald’s just pissed at your general selfish and terrible behavior.
Glomgold glomgloats and has seemingly won... but naturally that rant that seemed extranious at the time about the date line comes into play: turns out the Island is on it, and since glomgold put his marker int he west, Scrooge simply puts his in the east which is a whole day before. Now GRANTED there’s nor eal legal prescendice for the intetaoinal date line itself , as noted above... but there’s enough witnesses in Scrooge’s favor that it simply does not matter anyway. Scrooge SEEMINGLY wins.
But Huey, Dewey Or Louie instead backs another claim: Keoki’s from earlier. While it was made in gest, he and the others along with Donald back it as witnsses instad. WookaWooka is saved and SCrogoe ends the story yelling at the narrator.
Final Thoughts: Don Rosa.. did not like this story, feeling it wasn’t one of his best and apologizing for it. I however.. really loved it. It’s not PERFECT: the narration feels not entirely necessary and the gag isn’t as funny as he thinks, though the payoff of scrooge saying “it’s time for this story to end” is fucking hilarous. I also feel it’s a bit too compressed: the story is only 16 pages and was only THAT long because Rosa added a few for exposition, a worthy addition. This feels like one of his 30 page adventure stories but slightly crammed into half the length. I also feel the golden island bit was BADLY underused as it’s such a cool setting but barely shows up in the story.
But despite that.. it’s still a fun story: as is standard for Rosa the art is gorgeous and the humor is great. And unlike some stories where Rosa casually ignores how terrible scrooge is, here it’s his own greed and hubris that do him in: had he actually agreed to help Keoki, the boys likey would’ve let him keep the island but his own cold refusual to be a human being does him in, just as his cheapness nearly did. Flintheart is also decent here.. not the deepest foe but frankly most classical duck antagonists really aren’t all that fleshed out, and we still get some good bits with him. The dateline bit, while telegraphing that it will be important, as I said REALLY isn’t that hard to understand. All in all while i’ll agree with Rosa this isn’t his BEST, it’s still a really damn good story and one he shoudln’t be ashamed of.
Tommorow: Green Eggs and ham is back for some train shenanigans! Kay.
Saturday: The Tom Retrospective returns for it’s last detour! Eclipsa and Moon team up to stop meteora but grapple with diffrent wants: One to save her daughter.. the other to stop waht she clearly sees as an out of control monster. The result.. will only lead to tragedy and a hell of a two parter.

I’m an American and from your writing I would never guess that you’re British, are there any words, phrases or slang that you find your self editing out when you write? And would you ever consider writing a fic where you left it in?
Nonnie I love this question because UGH it gives me SO MUCH TO THINK ABOUT. Firstly, I am so SO pleased you think it's hardly noticable. This is because I have a LOVELY lovely crew of handy american and canadian friends who put up with me bugging them going "this character is from alberta and they want to say xyz what is the appropriate slang" (I also have gen z friends doing the same thing for when beezer has to speak)
That being said. Without a fucking doubt the hardest word not to use is wank. Crush is also super hard. Like, having a crush on someone is apparently not something you say in america? Like "I'm crushing on this guy" (Edit: I am informed by one of my wonderful friends that it’s ‘fancy’ that I use wrong here, not crushing you guys do use that? But you don’t say that you fancy someone which is just fucked up. You should deffo say that) and yeah, not calling people wankers. That happens a lot in UK hockey. Oh my god, and I had a COMPLETE breakdown in a fic about wanting to use the phrase "Can I ask a cheeky question?" and my canadian friends not only telling me that you guys don't use that, but also THAT YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE CHEEKY AS A CONCEPT, like BRUV WHAT EVEN IS A CHEEKY NANDOS WITHOUT THE FUCKING CHEEKY. Cheeky is like 90% of my fucking personality. Americans must be BAFFLED by me. So yeah, sometimes I get completely broken by words that like, have no fucking translation. Also, ngl, my fic will never contain the word "spunky". And I'm fucking laughing just writing it. Heh. Spunk. (To you americans, that's one of the many words we use for jizz over here)
That being said, FOR a brit, I don't use a huge amount of slang (I talk fuckin proper innit) with only occasional westcountryisms slipping in before coffee in the morning. (And now I'm wanting to write a fic in which a player asks another player "So you're off on a roadie eh? Where's that bein to?" just to confuse the fuck outta y'all). Most of the time, to my shame, I sound like a fucking tory. 🤷♀️ (I'm not. A tory. At all.) and of course, I do edit my work. I know it doesn't seem like it half the fucking time, but I do.
If I were to write EIHL or NIHL fic I would totes leave it in, BUT my bestie who I love who got me into hockey fic is super squicked out by the concept of me writing stuff about our local NIHL boys and so out of deference to them, I tend not to (EVEN THOUGH OUR GOALIE AND HIS BEST D-MAN HAVE THE WORLDS MOST FUCKING ADORABLE BROMANCE GOING) But even then, I'd have to be checking my language because I'm super southern and they are both really fucking scottish. Hopefully I have enough scots roots that I could pull that off convincingly though. The temptation to write some Liam Kirk fic with his fucking gorgeous northern accent in though... that's strong. (Fun fact, I saw his big brother play a couple of weeks ago :D). Buuuut yeah, even writing NIHL or EIHL fic, the amount of variety in british slang not only between different geographical areas but also between different classes - There's very few hockey players who I WOULDN'T have to edit my own speaking language to sound like. (Possibly the closest in terms of age and geographical location would be the coach of our local team, but I'd still have to edit the fucking public school out of myself 🤷♀️)
Long story short. If there are any middle class, millennial, english hockey players from the south-west of england that you want me to write, I will 100% write you a fic in my natural speaking voice, all slang left in... I just somehow think you'll struggle to find one ;)

━♡ guess the age 26 year old december baby just arrived to dallyeog! it makes sense, because samantha song is just as cheerful as the month of december. wait, why do they remind me of kwon eunbi? beyond that, they seemed warm & charming upon first glance. i heard someone say they’re sort of overbearing & stubborn though. i hope they get acquainted here in complex #4 / apartment #1217 / floor #4; she seems to have a lot going on with her job as a pastry chef & bakery shop owner
hi lovebugs! bunny here with another muse. this is my little ball of sunshine, sam! prob one of my favorite muses. she’s adorable and very lovable. just really wants to make frens with everyone and does that by randomly leaving boxes of cookies and cupcakes at their doorstep. she’s no stranger to seoul, but has recently made the city her home and set up a shop there that hopefully lots of tenant visit! smash that like if you want plots or slide into my ims or hmu on d!scord if you’d like. <3
name: samantha song birth date: december 17, 1994 place of birth: santa cruz, california romantic orientation: homoromantic sexual orientation: lesbian relationship status: single pronouns: she/her gender: cis-woman family: mother, father, two older brothers ( 7 and 4 years older ) pets: one 2 year old yorkie named pie piercings: 10, five in each ear tattoos: none.
parents are 2nd gen korean american’s. she was born in cali but traveled back and forth between south korea and america a lot since her dad owns some tech companies in both, which is now run by sam’s father and her brothers. her family is kinda loaded...on both sides.
attended private school in california since her parents wanted her to have the best education. she was cared for by nannies often whenever she wasn’t traveling with her family and that’s where she discovered her passion for baking. there was one nanny in particular that she really loved a lot and stayed with their family until sam was eighteen. the two would cook together a lot and that only helped same perfect her skills even more.
after she graduated high school sam enrolled in baking/pastry arts school in france. after she graduated she moved back home in california for a while and worked in a few high end restaurants before ultimately deciding to make the move to seoul, where her brothers are located running her father’s businesses. with the help of her family she was able to eventually open her own bakery and confections shop (darling little sweets) a year and a half later. she’s been in seoul for four years, but moved into dallyeog just two years ago.
personality wise sam is a literal ball of sunshine. she just loves people so much. probably one of the most kindest people you could ever meet. she comes from a very close, loving, and supportive family. she’s a lesbian and hasn’t really had the opportunity to get into any serious relationships. most of her romantic life consisted of short live flings. especially since she moved back and forth between cali and sk a lot. she’s a stress baker so catch her awake at 2am baking 4 dozen cookies or any entire six layer cake just because she can’t sleep or she’s worrying about things she likely has no control over. most of the time she gives them away or randomly hosts a dinner party to get her friends to eat them lol. pls love her!!!
i’m open to all plots. besties, friends, neighbors, fwb, maybe someone she’s really interested in and they are really into her too but no one will make a move lmao, enemiesssss! f you turn into an enemy of sam’s...then you must’ve done something really forked up, gimmie a bad influence!!! plsssss

Ah okay!! How about Samir & Aedan being a bunch of sleuths trying to discover and dispatch the Talon scientists responsible for the creation of Andrea. Or basically Aedan asking Samir and maybe to an extent Sombra to find a way to completely trash all the cloning-related research that Moira got from his conception so that no more clones would be made to go through what he's gone through(the existential dread) or wind up becoming another killing machine like Andrea!
I really love this prompt! Though I think Aedan’s relationship to Talon’s cloning projects would probably be more complex than “TALON ONLY MAKES MONSTROSITIES AND OUR EXISTENCE IS ONLY SUFFERING.”
...okay did this fic turn into a “Mountains of Madness/The Thing” knock-off? Maybe. Do I still like it? Yes.
----
The four of them stood huddled together in front of a massive, ice-slicked steel door dug into the side of Monte Sarmiento. All of them were bundled up, virtually indistinguishable from each other save by the colors of their windbreakers layered over thick down jackets, and Marti’s black braid speckled by snowflakes. Their faces were mostly obscured by goggles and scarves, and what skin did show was chapped by wind.
“Secret South American lab?” Jaime had pulled one glove off and was picking bits of protein bar out of his teeth with his pinky nail, “Even for Talon, that’s... nnnot a good look.”
“Overwatch had them too,” said Samir with a shrug, “Though, granted, it was for Crisis-era prosthetics research.”
“I’m just saying!” said Jaime, he shuddered as an icy wind blew through and looked over his shoulder back at the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Darwin before pulling a glove back on, “At least we’re not in Argentina.”
“Overwatch’s was in Argentina, actually,” said Samir, and Jaime snorted.
“Focus,” said Marti, her goggles down over her eyes as she and Samir decrypted the code on the door.
“We’re sure this site’s abandoned?” said Jaime, “We won’t be activating any... ‘nuke from orbit’ failsafes, right?”
“Best intel Auntie and Lynx could get, and Winston’s satellite should intercept any signal it might send out,” said Marti, numerous lines of code running across the lenses of her goggles, “And the decryption should be complete... right... about... now.”
There was a deep whirring sound and the ice on the door fractured. The four of them flinched back as it fell down in sheets and shattered against the icy and rocky ground, opening into a dark, steel-lined corridor.
“Scout it out, Ebo,” said Marti, taking the small spider-like drone off of her back harness and setting it on the ground. The little robot scuttled into the darkness and one lens of Marti’s goggles lit up with a feed from what Ebo’s camera could pick up.
“...so when do we all get the cute little drone sidekicks?” said Jaime as the four of them lit up their flashlights and walked into the corridor.
“You’re welcome to build your own,” said Marti, shining her flashlight around the massive heptagonal hallway. There was a loud ‘thunk-CHUNK’ and the hallway suddenly lit up in unnerving red lights. It mostly eliminated the need for flashlights, but all of them hesitated to turn them off. There came a loud whirring and all of them flinched with alertness.
“Stay calm,” said Marti, holding up a hand to make them pause in their steps. she brought a hand to her temple, apparently focusing on Ebo’s feed in her goggles, “Security drones incoming,” she said. Jaime swung his rifle off of his shoulder and Samir materialized his rifle from hard-light, “Aedan, stay low. If they get your head the mission is scrubbed. Samir. Take drones at two o’clock to eight o’ clock. Jaime. Eight to two.”
Jaime audibly cocked his rifle. The drones came flying out of the darkness, unnerving things, radially symmetrical, somewhere between squid and jellyfish in their design, bearing some resemblance to the gwishin omnic but even more unnervingly reminding Aedan of the construction of his own mother’s combat suit with a strange tightness to their chassises. Aedan could already feel dread chilling his blood but both Samir and Jaime quickly and efficiently dispatched the drones. A few loud shots echoing off the metallic walls of the corridor and the drones spun and crashed to the ground next to them. About 7 or 8, virtual target practice.
“Not to jinx it but... seems a little underwhelming, right?” said Jaime, “As far as secret labs go?”
Both Marti and Samir gave Jaime a wary glance as if he might very well jinx it, but there was a sound overhead and all of them flinched, Jaime and Samir bringing their rifles to the ready, but only a few nonfunctioning drone chassis tumbled out of a duct. They glanced up at the duct, noting even more nonfunctioning drones jamming it. There was a scuttling sound and Aedan tensed, only to see Ebo scuttling back to Marti.
“...I guess at one point they were supposed to overwhelm any intruders with numbers,” said Marti, picking up Ebo, folding its legs back in, and tucking the robot back into a slot on the harness on her back. She glanced over at Aedan, stooping over one of the dispatched drones.
“Aedan, if you want to study it further, we can grab it on the way out---” Marti started but Aedan was folding and unfolding one of the wing-like appendages on the drones.
“Pseudo-organic...” murmured Aedan.
“Come again?” said Marti.
“Nothing just...” Aedan pulled himself up to his full height, “Technically they’re living things.”
“What?” Jaime tilted his head.
“Well... insomuch as a nanite is a living thing,” said Aedan, rejoining the group.
“...Are you good?” said Marti, as Aedan closed the distance between them.
“You need someone with experience in Talon’s science division,” Aedan answered with a level of obviousness.
“But are you good?” said Marti, “This mission is already hitting close to home with you---”
“Look, it’s just a practical exploration of one branch of the capabilities of nanite design,” said Aedan, irritated, “I’ve already gone through my whole stupid clone angst well before I even defected, I’m here to make sure something good actually comes of it. Which I can’t do if everyone is treating me like a Fabergé egg.”
“I’ll take your word for it...” said Marti, glancing off.
Aedan did his best to ignore the implications of her words as they continued walking forward. “I’ll take your word for it,” didn’t simply imply that she believed his words, there was another layer to it. “I’ll take your word for it,” easily translated to, “I believe that you believe that---and of course, just because you believe this about yourself or your situation doesn’t make it true.” But no, despite everything he strived for as a person, Aedan knew his very existence represented probably the ugliest side of Talon’s unfettered scientific ambition.
It’s why they brought me, thought Aedan as they reached another massive steel door and the three of them looked to him expectantly. There was a retinal scan terminal next to the door.
“Your time to shine,” said Marti, as Aedan stepped up to it.
“...couldn’t you have tried to decrypt it? Or blow it open?” said Aedan, stepping up to the terminal.
“We don’t know if that would have activated some self-destruct failsafe,” said Samir, “We want to see the lab how Talon would have seen it.”
“Of course,” said Aedan, bringing his eye to the scanner.
Two blue lines of light crisscrossed over his mahogany brown eye.
“O’Deorain, Moira,” an automated voice sounded from the computer, “Vocally confirm any guests with you for biometrics.”
A bit of panic flared up in Aedan’s chest, but he glanced back t his three compatriots and looked back at the terminal. Pitching his voice in the best approximation of his mother’s, he spoke, “O’Deorain, Moira, reporting. And three guests.”
“Accepted,” said the terminal, “Enter passcode.”
“What?” said Aedan.
“Verbally state your passcode,” said the terminal.
“Let me decrypt it,” said Marti, bringing her goggles back down over her eyes.
“Please enter passcode in the next... 40 seconds,” said the terminal.
“Will it decrypt that fast?” said Aedan, quickly.
“No,” said Marti, looking at him.
Aedan brought in a sharp breath through his teeth. His mother never had very good passcodes for anything, largely because she was dealing with Talon passcodes around every corner with Talon putting pressure on her to come up with new ideas all the time. What would she pick for here? What would she pick for now? Something obvious. Something reflecting her sensibilities.
“Please enter passcode in the next... 20 seconds,” droned the terminal.
“Uh, Aedan?” said Jaime.
“Darwin!” Aedan flinched at how loudly the word came out of him.
“Passcode expired. Please enter current passcode in the next...9 seconds,” said the terminal.
“Aedan--” Samir started.
“Beagle!” blurted out Aedan.
There was a pause of a few seconds, then another ‘thunk-CHUNK’ as the gears behind the door shifted, and the massive steel doors pulled away revealing a large lift.
“...How did you know that?” said Marti.
“Well,” Aedan shrugged, “Some side effects to Mum supplementing my memories with hers, I suppose, but mostly? We’re both lazy in our way. I mean, I supposed there would come a point where you get so exasperated with passcodes that you just defer to the passcode being the location the passcode is in so...” He trailed off and scanned the faces of his team members.
“Let’s just... get on the lift,” said Marti.
The four of them moved onto the lift. There were only two other floors. A main level, and what seemed to be a ship bay for evacuation or Talon drop ships. They opted for the main level. The lift hummed and all of them felt a distinct gut-sinking feeling as it plummeted.
All of them tensed as the doors opened to a massive chamber hewn into the mountain itself and supported by steel beams like the ribs of a massive beast. There were more ‘thunks’ and ‘whirrs’ as the auxiliary power lit up the lab, cold little white lights on footpaths thrummed up from the floor, creating an eerie lighting from below, and there were a few industrial lights shining down on a central lab table. Lining the lab walls however, were what appeared to be massive cylinders of tight bands of metal, each equipped with its own terminal and what appeared to be a generator.
“Full scan, Ebo,” said Marti, once again taking the little robot off of her back and sending it scuttling off into the dark recesses of the lab. Scalloping around the tanks, the little spider drone bustled around a corner into a corridor which Aedan assumed might lead to the generators for this lab.
“What are we looking at here?” said Jaime.
“I’d guess maybe cryogenic research?” said Samir, walking up to one of the metal cylinders and putting his hand on it, “Feels like it would be appropriate, given the location...”
“So we might just end up thawing out Talon agents if we touch the wrong thing,” said Jaime. He snorted. “Can you imagine just... being forgotten in a freezer for years?”
“...Overwatch actually had that happen with Doctor Zhou,” said Samir.
“Speculating gets us nowhere,” said Marti as she walked up to the first cylinder’s terminal. She brought her goggles down and activated the holographic screens of the terminal, her fingers racing across them to decrypt.
“It’s too warm in here for cryogenics,” Aedan said, mostly to himself as he headed to another cylinder He rapped a knuckle on the cylinder. The reverberation of the metal wasn’t quite hollow. He frowned and turned to the terminal, typing a few old Talon access codes. The holographic interface lit up, displaying flatlined vitals. Samir might be right, thought Aedan, It could be cryo... but another possibility was itching at the back of his mind. Aedan selected a button that said, ‘Open exterior shell,’ just as an excited huff came out of Marti.
“Got it--!” Marti started as the metal bands slid to the side but that tone of victory in her voice quickly shrank in her throat. Aedan glanced at his own cylinder and saw the bands sliding away from it, revealing glass and… yellow. His gut seized. All four of them stumbled away from the cylinders, shrinking in close to Marti in horror as the metal bands slid away to reveal two yellowish glass tanks, each with a naked man floating in it with dozens of wires stuck into his skin and a particularly unnerving wire ported at his temple. Mnemosyne, Aedan thought, mindlessly feeling at the side of his own head. It took a second to make out their hair in the yellowness of the tank, it was a bit long for amnio-tank regulations. How long had they been abandoned? How much did the biotics slow the keratinization process of the growth of hair?
“Blonde clones in tubes...” Jaime said, trying to keep the nervousness out of his voice but somewhat blindly fumbling for Samir’s hand, “Like I said before: Not a good look.”
“Look at their faces,” said Marti, squinting.
The truth was their faces had that strange, anonymizing shadow of death upon them. The way death makes anything look so very remote from anything it looked like in life. They were in tanks of biotics, but all Aedan could think about were embryos and reptiles in jars of formaldehyde. But they could still pick up a sharp nose, a strong jaw, and thin lips.
“…Jack Morrison,” Samir said hollowly. Even without the scars, everyone could recognize that nose and that jawline from the posters that had colored their world since well before any of them were born.
“You’re telling me Talon devoted an entire lab to cloning Jack Morrison?” Jaime said, his face twisted up.
“It might not be just Jack Morrison,” said Marti, quickly heading to the lab’s central terminal, and Samir paled slightly.
“With all data on the SEP serum destroyed, it was their most logical bet,” said Aedan, “Short of grave-robbing other subjects from the Omnic crisis, but I doubt any samples there would be viable if they couldn’t scry the compound from genetic information.”
He felt Jaime’s eyes on him, shrewd and disturbed. Aedan pressed his own lips together, hating how much he still knew about how Talon thought. Hating how much he still thought like Talon.
Marti still had her goggles down, streams of data going over the lenses as she typed at the central terminal, “I’m getting the next one open.”
They all tried to keep steady, but the loud whirrs and ‘thunks’ which issued from Marti’s hacking efforts while all their eyes were fixed on the other clones in the amnio-tanks made all of them flinch.
A nervous laugh fell out of Jaime. “Keep expecting their eyes to open...” he said, his voice a little strained.
The metal bands slid away on the next cylinder, revealing not a blonde man but a floating amorphous pulp of black.
“Nanite amalgam?” said Aedan, tilting his head.
“What’s a nanite amalgam, again?” whispered Jaime.
“Baby reaper,” whispered Marti.
“They’re not ‘Baby Reapers,’” said Samir, “More like... Reaper goo coral colonies.”
“But we don’t--I mean Talon doesn’t usually let them get this big...” murmured Aedan, “It’s easier to observe cellular anomalies when they’re...” he trailed off and tapped at the monitor next to the tank with the black pulp. Aedan put a hand over his mouth.
“What?” said Marti.
“...it’s not a nanite amalgam. This... was an attempt at cloning Reyes,” said Aedan, his shoulders dropping, “Couldn’t maintain cellular cohesion. He...” Aedan took a steadying inhale, “In the most scientific terms... ate himself.”
Jaime’s lips pulled back from his teeth in some combination of repulsion and that odd scrambling need to use humor to try and maintain some mental grip on the situation but also knowing he shouldn’t do that for Aedan’s sake.
“Aedan, do you need to--?” Marti started.
“Open the next tank,” said Aedan, stiffly. Marti gave him a look and Aedan cleared his throat. “Please. If it’s... in your best judgment, team leader.”
Marti tapped away at the monitor again. The next tank was a similar black pulp but now in a roughly human shape, like a shadow.
“This one managed to maintain its hox genes...” murmured Aedan.
“I’ve found the ‘Emergency access’ channel--I’m opening the rest of them,” said Marti.
There was a series of clanks and whirring then and the rest of the tanks were revealed. These weren’t all identical clones. If Aedan had to make a comparison, he would say it was like An artist’s body of work as defined by a particular phase. There was Picasso’s Blue Period, and here was his mother’s “Try and create a supersoldier that combines the most terrifying aspects of both Morrison and Reyes with varying but all uniquely disgusting results” period.
“Subjects seven through eighteen,” Aedan said quietly, pressing one hand to the glass of an amnio-tank. He remembered McCree interrogating him shortly after his defection. Why does everyone always assume clones are made in bulk?
They weren’t made in bulk, thought Aedan, This is trial and error. This is throwing everything at a wall and seeing what sticks.
There was a man in the tank with a ruddier skin tone than Jack’s but hair too light to be Reyes’s--or at least most of him--his arms and legs tapered off into cloudy black points, like a piece of wood that had only half of it burned.
“Couldn’t maintain cellular cohesion at the extremities. Organs were probably in a state of peril from the start and failed as it moved inward,” Aedan muttered.
“Uh--Aedan?” said Marti, but Aedan moved across the next tank, featuring a man with similar features midway between Reyes and Morrison, in somewhat complete form, but with the entire back of his head dissolved and trailing up
“Could reconstruct most of his body but not the arbor vitae. Probably killed himself at the first attempt at a fade, yet the nanites still responded to the peripheral nerves. Very unusual,” he murmured.
“Aedan,” Samir’s voice was troubled but Aedan was too caught up in his observations, moving to the next tank.
The clone in this one was... unfortunate. Really more of just a brain and spine surrounded by a black cloud of nanites. “The previous couldn’t maintain the integrity of the central nervous system, this one couldn’t maintain the integrity of the periphera--”
“AEDAN!” Jaime bellowed and Aedan glanced up. Jaime pointed to the end of the row of tanks. The last tank was empty--or at least, what was left of it was empty. What remained of the tank was jagged glass rendered virtually white from all its fissures. They had all been so busy looking at the tanks and monitors they didn’t catch the shards of glass sparkling in those cold floor lights at the base of the final tank. The glass definitely showed that something had burst out of the tank, rather than a force shattering it inward.
“...do we know... why Talon abandoned this lab?” the words came out of Aedan squeakier than he wanted.
“Well, mostly our prerogative is to secure any Talon site that’s tactically viable,” said Samir.
Marti pressed a button on the side of her goggles and a clear tension overcame her, “And you know what?” she said, her voice pitching higher than usual, “Let’s consider this one secured! Let’s go to the lift, everyone!”
“What?” said Samir.
“But there’s still so much to--” Aedan started.
“We are going to the lift,” said Marti through clenched teeth, “Now.”
There was a scuttling and Aedan, Samir, and Jaime all instinctively clustered close, only to see Marti’s drone Ebo scuttling out of a dark corridor of the lab. Marti un slung her shockcaster off her back and fired off several tether lines behind the little spider robot.
“Uh, Marti--?” Jaime started.
“I said get to the li--” Marti shoved her goggles up off of her eyes as a horrible creaking, sloshing sound came out of the corridor behind Ebo, “NOW!” she shouted, “GO NOW!”
What lurched out of the corridor, Aedan couldn’t really compare to the nanite amalgams he had sent swarming over Urdr when he had defected with Rei. Too much of it was flesh-toned. But the black of nanites spiraled all over the whorls of skin and muscle making it up. Aedan didn’t try to make out how many eyes or hands were throbbing and blinking and clenching in it. Somehow, despite having far more eyes than any organism had any business having, all of those eyes fixed on them. Four dumb kids in brightly colored windbreakers standing smack dab in the center of the lab. Some of the eyes that looked at them were blue. Some were brown. Some had entirely too much pupil. Too much tapetum lucidum. Some were runny with tears and yellow gunk. The mass of nanite-spiraled muscles and flesh pressed out at Aedan like some creature trying to burst out of an amniotic sack. Aedan was frozen in place mouth hanging open, staring at this creature. This thing that came from a tank and was made of only a few smatterings of DNA and nanites, just like he did. He stood there, dumbly, until he felt felt Jaime grab his arm and he felt his own legs pumping as all four of them sprinted for the lift.
Marti fired out a tether at Ebo, caught the little robot, then yanked back hard, whisking the drone into her arms. She hugged it close to her chest as she ran. It wasn’t clear if she was protecting it or she thought it might protect her. Jaime just kept running, gripping Aedan’s arm so hard it hurt as Aedan flailed behind him, unable to pull his eyes away from the crawling, clawing mass that pursued them. Samir tossed out a few turrets to slow it down but soon surrendered to the dead sprint to the lift as the pulsing mass of flesh and nanites and muscles and sinew and limbs that didn’t know if they were hands or feet but were still reaching out, feeling out, followed after them. The four of them scrambled into the lift and Marti feverishly slammed the ‘close door’ button as the mass sloshed and crawled and reached for them. Samir brought up a hard light shield and the fleshy mass pressed against it, not-quite-hands pressing white against the bluish light before the doors of the lift finally closed and the lift shot upward.
“Guh--” some repulsed noise throbbed out of Jaime’s throat. Jaime, who never knew how to shut up for anything, was at a horrified loss of words. He suppressed a gag.
“Subject Eighteen...” the words left Aedan in a breath, a manic laugh shook him, “You created something with SEP serum toughness, and nanite adaptiveness but it wasn’t--it wasn’t...”
“Aedan--” Marti touched his arm.
“It was adapting,” Aedan was babbling, “It was adapting. It knew not to give itself a mouth or vocal chords because maybe then we could hear it coming--”
Marti suddenly pulled him into a hug.
“Probably converted what labtechs were here into biomass...” Aedan’s voice was breaking.
“Breathe, it’s okay,” said Marti.
“There’s a brain in there--maybe a lot of brains---maybe--” Aedan didn’t know why he kept talking. Maybe talking was all that kept the worst of the horror back. He felt Jaime layer himself around Marti in that same embrace.
“Tell me it’s not me--Tell me that thing isn’t me---” Aedan wasn’t quite sure when his face had gotten so wet with tears but it must have been bad because even Samir was piling into the hug now.
“It’s not you,” Marti’s voice was half-muffled against the bulk of Aedan’s own coat. Aedan just sank to his knees, his breath heaving between hyperventilating and sobs, and the rest of the team sank with him. Their only comfort was the thrum of the lift itself, bringing them up further and further from the horror below.

Alex Final Wars 2: Dark Alex, Chapter 35 - Shore Leave
"How long will repairs to the typhoon take?" Toothdee asked Skye, the fox shoulder-deep into a small maintenance area inside the typhoon. The sounds of maintenance and machine tools were present throughout the whole ship.
"A few days at the least, likely longer." Skye said, exiting the maintenance area, "We sustained heavy damage in our battle with the Black Typhoon. I'm just glad we were able to get back to this US island."
"Same, luckily; we did get some technical teams sent out. So hopefully, we can get this ship fixed and rearmed fairly quickly."
"Skye," Retsuko said, coming up to the pair. "That armor panel you prioritized has been repaired, as has the damaged electrical components you prioritized. Oh, and Toothdee, we're 37% restocked when it comes to our bombs and missiles."
"Thank you, Retsuko."
The red panda left, looking over notes on a clipboard.
"I must say, Skye, your engineering skills really impress me."
"Thanks. I'm one of the most highly trained field agents in the ZIA. I've got Jack, myself, and other agents out of a jam more than once."
The fox grabbed some tools and went back into the maintenance area.
"I know we're on that list as well. Do you think I could convince you to stay on with Heroes after the war?"
"Hmmm... I'm not sure. I haven't thought about that much. I do like working for the ZIA, and they might have other missions for us after the war instead of working with you guys."
"Well, just know that there's always a place for you and Jack in Heroes."
"Thank you, I'm glad to hear it."

"Lion versus lion! Blade versus blade!" Laval said, taking up a defensive stance.
"This is where it all ends on this beach...." Kion said, readying his blade.
There was a pause, with only the feel of sand beneath the lion's feet, the gentle sound of the lapping of the waves on the shore, the occasional breezes blowing through their fur.
"YAAHHHHH!"
The lions roared and raced towards each other, blades colliding with a shower of sparks and the sound of metal clangs.
Blades clashed as the pair swung their blades and blocked incoming attacks. Both warriors were evenly matched and experts with their swords.
Laval kicked up some sand in Kion's face, blinding the young lion and placing him on the defensive as he rubbed his eyes.
Laval was quickly able to block his strikes with his enemy blinded and knock Kion on his back with a hard kick.
The downed lion looked up at his adversary, who was pointing a blade at his neck.
"I win! One point to me!" Laval said.
"Hey, using sand is cheating!" Kion said, getting up and washing his eyes with a bottle of water he set down on the sand.
"You have to be ready for anything!" Laval said, using his sword to cut a small tally mark in a palm tree nearby. He looked over the two sections of the chart cut into the tree, one side labeled L, the other labeled K. "We're even. You may be a little taller than me, but don't let that go to your head!"
"Point taken, say why are you and Eris roughly equivalent in height? I mean, wild lions and wild eagles aren't exactly the same in size."
"I mean, you could say the same thing for other species. Nick and Judy are roughly equivalent in height, much more so that their wild counterparts."
"Yeah... you've got a point..."
The pair of lions readied themselves for another battle, stretching and practicing their sword swings.
"We're also somewhat different in height, even though we're both adult lions."
"Yeah, maybe it's just natural differences since we're from different parts of the world. Chima has always been somewhat unique biology-wise."
"Why's that?"
"I'm not sure, it might have something to do with the chi, or maybe it's just natural circumstances. I'm not exactly a biologist, though."
"It kind of reminds me of how Komodo dragons are only found on one island in the world. I guess it's just a unique location that adds to the diversity mammals have."
"Sounds about right."
"Now then, where were we?" Kion said, taking up an offensive stance with his blade ready to strike.
"I was just about to beat you again!" Laval said, roaring a battle cry before charging forward.

"You know, I've said it before, but I'll repeat it. The food you have here is better than the food I had when I first moved to Zootopia!" Judy said, rummaging through the cabinets in the typhoon's kitchen. "Meat, veggies, snacks, sweets, this ship is so well stocked!"
"Well, a warrior needs essential vitamins and nutrients to keep themselves fit for combat," Alex said, sitting at a table and scrolling through something on his tablet. Nick sat across from him and enjoyed a Pawpsicle. "Not only that, but better quality food keeps morale up."
There was a ding, and Judy retrieved her "carrots for one" dish from the microwave before sitting down with Nick and Alex. She pulled the metal covering off the dish, revealing three plump and juicy carrots.
"Look at that! When I first came to Zootopia, I got one tiny shriveled-up carrot, not carrots that actually look like what's on the cover!"
The rabbit pointed to the picture on the dish's covering.
"Eh, I'm more of a burger kind of person," Nick said.
"You're always eating fast food like chips and take out. You really should eat better."
"Well, next time we can get takeout, I was thinking of... oh wait, Alex, we can still eat Chinese food, right?"
"Yeah, duh. In fact, the Chinese food you eat isn't even actual Chinese food. It's an American creation."
"Oh, totally fine to eat then."
"All this talk of food reminds me. JayJay told me that wolves actually need meat to survive. Some humans don't eat meat, but wolves can't do that."
"Ah, yeah, you're going to have to get used to some of the differences between species."
"Yeah," Judy said, her mouth full of carrot." For example, I didn't know that foxes bite to show affection, so it was a surprise when Nick first did that."
"And I didn't know that rabbits rub their chins on things to mark them, so I was rather confused when that first happened."
"Well... she did nibble on my ear," Alex said. "That definitely surprised me."
Nick and Judy chuckled a bit.
"Although... fair warning..." Judy said. "Not all mammals are very accepting of different species relationships."
"Yeah, I know. But do you think some jerks are going to scare me?"
The fox and bunny chuckled again.
"Nah, you two will be fine," Nick said.

"Our warship is gone!" Dark JayJay said. "We've lost. It's just the two of us now."
"I concur," Dark Alex replied as the pair walked down a dark hall in a Chinese facility.
"All we can do now is inflict as much damage as possible on our enemy." He said, "But I will be sending you to where this all started. One of the artificial islands in the South China Sea."
"We should never have set foot on that island. Look where we ended up. We should see about calling for aid."
"I agree, but we will make our enemies pay a hefty price in blood for all they have wrought on us. However, I need you to make sure the information about what we did at the start of this conflict stays secret."
"Ok, I can manage that."
"We have tried to keep this information hidden before. But now, you must dispose of anyone or anything that risks revealing the truth."
The dark wolf nodded and went to prepare.
"Oh, and one more thing..."
Dark JayJay paused for a moment and turned to her ally.
"Don't do anything rash unless you have to. Follow your objectives, but keep that data out of enemy hands, at all costs."

Chapter 1: Never Know
Hey y'all, each chapter title corresponds to a song. I have no idea how long this story will be, so I'm waiting to post the entire playlist until the end. When this book is finished, I will post a final chapter listing all the songs used as well as the link to the spotify playlist. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy! Welcome to... Infinitely Ordinary.
Busy.
That's all life ever was.
Go to elementary school. Go to middle school. Go to high school. Graduate. Get a job. Go to college.
Sure, some of these things are important, but can't I ever do what I want? There is so much more to life than just "go, go, go." Sometimes slowing down and doing what you want becomes this beautiful, unexpected thing. It can change your life forever.
Or at least that's how I feel.
Growing up, I've lived in the same small town for 15 years. I've watched the time pass and the town blossom. I've seen people come and people go. I've made some amazing memories, and some memories that I wish I could forget.
Sure, my life hasn't been awful, but it hasn't been all rainbows and butterflies either. I've had my fair share of losses; my fair share of wins too. Overall, I guess my life has followed the ordinary life of anyone growing up nowadays, save for a few events...but I'll save you the heartbreak of those.
For the longest time, I've loved travel and adventure. I remember going into the wash when I was 7 years old and making my own little kingdom. My siblings and I would go to this giant tree and spend hours there. We would dig holes, make little seats in said holes, tell stories, and laugh. We made it ours. Whatever was going on in our real lives didn't matter to us when we were there; we would just forget it all and live out a fantasy.
Even though my love for travel now reaches far broader horizons than my neighborhood wash, it still remains. The rush of visiting a new place, experiencing a new culture, and just being able to escape this crazy thing we call life for a brief moment is invigorating. It actually seems like time slows down for an instant.
That's why I'm here.
Sitting in Sky Harbor Airport waiting for my flight to Seoul.
"Why Seoul?" you may ask.
Well... I honestly don't know.
I mean, really I'm just going on intuition here. I've been facinated by different cultures for the longest time. The stark difference between Asian culture and American culture always amazed me. With the whole Hallyu wave (that I've admittedly been sucked into) sweeping my home country, it's hard not to want to learn more. With this curiosity and something in my gut telling me this was the right thing to do, I started planning my trip.
Finding a small apartment to rent during my 2 week stay, picking out locations I wanted to visit, and booking my flight were suprisingly easy.
It was telling my family that was the hard part.
It's not like I was packing up my life and moving to Seoul, never to be seen again.
But that's exactly how my parents treated it.
Correction, parent.
My mom had always encouraged me to do what I wanted and what I felt was right. That being said, when I told her I would be going to Korea for 2 weeks, she was beyond supportive. Her only conditions were that I took plenty of pictures, messaged her at least once a day, and enjoyed myself.
My dad on the other hand... not so much.
As soon as the words left my mouth, he was immediately trying to get me not to go. He started going on about how I shouldn't go on a trip so far away alone and how I didn't speak the language. He told me it was way too expensive and risky for someone my age.
I get that I'm the baby of the family, but I'm still 19. I'm an adult, I have a job, I don't have school to worry about since I went into a trade, and I know well enough to not do anything stupid and stay out of trouble. Compared to my older siblings, this trip was really the least of his troubles.
But there I was, getting coddled like I was still 5 years old.
I know that my dad didn't want me to go, but I still carried on. He'll get over it eventually. There really isn't a better time than right now anyway.
So that's why I'm here.
"Flight 297 from Phoenix to Seoul, your plane is now boarding. Flight 297 from Phoenix to Seoul, you are now boarding."
I guess that's my cue.
Picking up my carry-on and making my way to the gate, I tried to prepare myself for the next 2 weeks ahead of me. Will I finally find out why I've been so drawn this place all the way on the other side of the world? Will I be able to make it through speaking very limited Korean? Honestly, I don't know if I'll get any answers. However, I do know that this trip is happening for a reason and I definitely won't forget it.
Let's risk it all.
A/N: So here's the first chapter! Not much going on, and it's pretty short. Nevertheless, I hope you guys enjoyed and continue to read. I promise this will get better, we just have to get this character crap out of the way. I hope you all stay happy and healthy. I'll see you all in the next chapter!!
