Our (not so) Little Family
I got pregnant for the first time within 6 months of us deciding we were ready to start trying for a baby. Reiner hadn’t even proposed yet before we found out that we had one on the way. Because he didn’t want me to have to worry about any kind of wedding planning while I was pregnant. Plus he wanted us to focus on the coming baby. The pregnancy was actually a lot smoother than Reiner and I expected although I did experience some morning sickness (mostly at night) and there were some cravings but Reiner made sure that I was well taken care of. He, as expected, was happily showing off the printouts of the ultrasounds both when we first found out I was pregnant and then several months later, when I was nearing my due date. We didn’t do any sort of gender reveal party or anything but we did have a baby shower. In fact, we didn’t even find out the gender of the baby until she was born. Amelia Braun was born in early June.
Four months later, Reiner surprised me with a proposal, in the middle of October. We had vaguely discussed getting married again after Amelia was born but we hadn’t really decided anything. But Reiner talked his cousin, Gabi, into watching Amelia for us for a few hours and he took me out to dinner. He actually did his best to recreate our first date and while we were walking along together, eating our ice cream cones, Reiner stopped so we could sit on a bench. It was there that he proposed, with a simple but very pretty ring. He even humored me and took a bunch of pictures although I didn’t post them to Instagram until about two weeks later, after we had told all of our family and friends first.
We started wedding planning almost immediately and since I had been thinking about my wedding day since I was a little girl, it didn’t take nearly as long as Reiner thought it would for me to decide on things. He helped every step of the way though and we got married in mid March, only 5 months after getting engaged, much to everyone’s surprise. We didn’t have plans for the next child but in May, I found out I was pregnant again and we found out it was twins. This pregnancy was a little tougher, with me ending up on bedrest for the last couple months. In late January, Mathias and Milo Braun were born.
Reiner did worry a little about having so many little ones at once but we managed alright, especially with the help of our family and friends. And everyone was so willing to help out once Reiner and I were outnumbered so quickly. While we said we were going to wait a bit before trying again, I found out I was pregnant again on Amelia’s second birthday. Thankfully it was another easy pregnancy and at this point Reiner was all for me becoming a stay at home mom. While I didn’t completely do so, I did start doing as much as I could from home. In early March, Isobelle Braun was born. Amelia was almost 3 and the twins were a year old by the time we had a new baby to take care of as well but at this point, we were pretty good at handling so many little ones at once. It did take a little extra work since we were working on potty training with Amelia while still having 3 in diapers all at the same time.
Somehow we managed a little breather before I found out I was pregnant again. Amelia was five and starting school; the twins were three and working on being potty trained; Isobella was almost 2 and also starting a bit of potty training. It was the end of February when I found out I was pregnant again and thankfully, it was yet another easy pregnancy. I realized that I was pretty lucky to have so many easy pregnancies, especially since Reiner’s mom made it clear to me that when she was pregnant with Reiner, it had been a little tough on her. In mid December, Everett Braun was born.
Almost a year after Everett’s birth, I found out I was pregnant again. Reiner and I decided that this would be our last (although Reiner said he wouldn’t be upset if we still had more!) and after a slightly rougher pregnancy, with a ton of morning sickness (more than any of the other kids), Theodore Braun was born in late August. He was born a month earlier than expected but he was still a healthy little guy.

The Fae Court - Military:
The Fae Court of the Wanderer, is many things... and thanks to its not-so-insignificant interest in remaining armed and protected, situated as it is mainly within a storied citadel at the heart of a magical mountain... surrounded by hundreds of acres of magically potent fae-monster-infested woodlands, and separated into its own fragmented shard of reality in the Void between Worlds to boot, it is no surprise that the Martial Branch is what it is - a loose collection of well-focused and extremely talented - or perhaps dangerous - individuals all fitted under a flexible-yet-effective hierarchy and honed to a singular goal - protecting the Court, and not only in its many members or unique territory.
Knight(s): Eerie Somby (Head) [ @dethdvncer ], Leanna von Braun (Reserve) [ @automaton-otto ] As much paragons of might as effective leaders, as much one-man-armies as exemplars of the values of the Court (in theory at least), the Knights are the top of the rankings for the Court's military, and the Tip of the Spear when open battle becomes inevitable to protect it from those who would harm it or its many members. Currently, there is only one Active knight, and thus their leadership is not truly in question, but the differentiation between 'Head' Knight and other Knights will perhaps one day be tested. As powerful and deadly as they are to face one-on-one, any and all Knights of the Court of the Wanderer are technically those most heavily or closely sworn to the Lord of the Court itself - as in many ways they are one of the foremost faces of the Court by virtue of their position(s).
Marshal(s): 'Hiegau' of the Black Dogs [ @lookthedevilintheeye ] A more mixed and indirect, if no less important rank just under the Knights, a Marshal of the Fae Court of the Wanderer is effectively meant to fill two roles interchangeably - logistics officer and organizer during peace, and field-commander during wartime. While strong in their own right as a prerequisite, being a Marshal is less about being able to fight so much as being able to Lead and keep one's wits in any sort of struggle - be it maintaining standards and assignments for the many Rangers and Guards in the court, or leading them to battle against deadly odds and winning without major losses. There is only one Marshal position filled at the moment, and the Lord of the Court is eager to see another rise to the position - be it from within the Court's current ranks or otherwise.
Ranger(s): Yuugo [ @heroesxdemons ], Ulan 'La Brújula' of Tangway [ @sins-of-the-sea ], Finn Mertens [ @finncomet ] Rangers are by far the most mixed and flexible of the members of the Martial Branch of the Court, regardless of their skills. By nature, the rank of Ranger is not one of leadership but nonetheless is a position of merit and importance, as Rangers are effectively Operatives ideal for assignments of great difficulty or importance to more actively guard the Court... not only its members, but its interests and investments, even if by occasionally unsavory means. Rangers are not Knights, but rather Spies, Assassins, Bounty-Hunters, and Specialists of many kinds and fields - far from defenseless in a straight-up fight, but generally those who favor tactics and methods other than full-frontal combat to fulfill their objectives. Current rangers include - in no particular order of seniority - an expert in hunting and subduing even the toughest of monsters, an expert assassin and tracker with exceptional skill in stealth and reconnaissance, and an in-training powerhouse of an adventurer learning new skills to better round-out his repertoire in more than simple combat.
Guard(s): Theodore 'Teddy' Augustus Ramsel [ @bleedinghearth ], Mortem [ @cursedfortune ], Nikki Eryl Faden [ @wiildhearrted ] Guards are technically the lowest rank in the military-hierarchy of the Fae Court, but in many ways they remain the backbone of more than just the defenses of the Court and the Halls it is seated within. While in times of war they are both soldiers and the last lines of defense should the Halls be attacked, in times of peace any Guard of the Court is expected to have other duties to help them serve and protect those they have sworn to defend: One such guard happily serves as a de-facto daycare worker in his day-to-day life in the Court, another inspects and maintains the many Runic protections and Wards in and around the Halls, yet another extends her patrol-duties to the wild, monster-infested forests surrounding the Mountain and serves as a Game Warden of sorts to control and maintain the natural defenses and resources the forests offer. While not expected to be front-line soldiers except as a last resort, there is no real requirement or expectation of strength or power to the role, other than simple diligence and an understanding of what might be asked of a Guard in times of need - it is therefore one of the easiest positions to enter and maintain in the Court.

Founded in 1887, by Agatha Carlisle, the Hill Valley Hellfire Club was a High Society club of rakes, spiritualists, and occult seekers that met in the Carlisle Mansion on Riverside Drive in Hill Valley.
Agatha Carlisle
Agatha regularly performed Seances, Tarot Readings, Palm Inspections and other various forms of Spiritualism, a phenomenon that was taking America and Europe by storm in the late 19th and early 20th Century. Prominent men of business and their wives regularly attended these Hellfire Club meetings and it is rumored that President Theodore Roosevelt even attended a seance or two during his campaigning for the Presidency in 1900.
The Brown Wedding
In 1916, Agatha’s eldest daughter Katherine Carlisle married an up and coming Circuit Court Judge and German Immigrant named Erhardt Brown, who had changed his name from Von Braun at the outbreak of World War I.
Agatha Carlisle Funeral
Katherine Brown gave birth to a son named Emmett the following year, but tragedy struck the Carlisle family two years later in 1920 when Agatha passed away from a stroke.
Hindenburg Disaster
Katherine Brown continued to host Hellfire Club meetings in the Brown Mansion until her untimely death aboard the Hindenburg in 1937. This terrible disaster influenced her twenty year old son Emmett to change his college major at the California School of Technology from Engineering to Applied Physics and dedicate his life to science.
A young Emmett Brown.
It was his constant protestation to his father concerning the occult and spiritism, that led to Judge Brown formerly disbanding the Hellfire Club around the outbreak of World War II.

👫 war kie :)
headcanon time // @ghoulsplay's warren peace
1: one year before will stronghold arrives at sky high and stumbles his way through power placement, warren peace and khione goossens do the same. khione goes first. turns the gym into a winter wonderland. and because coach boomer thinks he's got a terrific sense of humor, he picks out warren afterwards even though he swore he was going to do this alphabetically. warren easily melts the ice and snow as he turns the gym into a sauna. khione attempts to slip outside before she melts completely. but before she does so, she turns back to look at him and he looks back. one look was all it took for her heart to skip a beat. khione has been drawn to him ever since.
(to this day, she remembers how beautiful he looked, all powered up. like he was agni, the god of fire, himself.)
2: powering up beside him during homecoming was a leap of faith that surprised her. khione figured that she could allow herself to have this one thing. especially now that both of them survived royal pain's masterplan. then he takes her hand and she doesn't want him to let go, ever again. he warms her up, she cools him down. and after the night ends and she gets home, her parents' former sidekicks call her before she can call them - jawaharel has precognitive abilities and he saw a dance of icy twin flames. farzana sheds a few tears when khione tells her that she's "in love, like you and jawaharel are".
3: the only reason why khione doesn't tell warren what happened to the first boy she ever kissed is because mr medulla shows him. well, he shows everyone during a telepathic training exercise. in response, khione goes subzero and it takes warren the majority of the day to get kie to thaw out of her ice form again.
4: during their senior year, nurse spex dies. everyone is heartbroken. khione reaches out to nurse spex's grandson, valerian, in order to extend her condolences and an olive branch. instead, he takes his frustrations out on her. warren steps in and when principal powers comes to break up the fight, kie tries to explain to her that warren didn't start it. warren and kie end up in detention with valerian anyway. ever since the royal pain fiasco during their sophomore year, kie's been claustrophobic. warren is the only reason why kie doesn't freak out then and there in the detention room.
kie's parents don't show up when she walks the stage. instead, farzana and jawaharel show up and kie officially introduces warren to them.
5: the transition period between high school and college is a tough one, considering that's when will's paternal grandparents come to town. theodore stronghold - the founder of sky high and sky u - has nothing nice to say about any of his grandson's friends. especially not warren. his wife, ann-marie, chimes in with pointed remarks about kie.
several members of the sky high faculty like mr boy, coach boomer, jeannie elast and principal powers have since been offered well paying jobs and have since made the transition from sky high to sky u.
6: during warren and kie's first year at sky university, baron battle escapes the maximum security prison he was kept in, rampages through maxville and kidnaps ethan bank - resident boy genius. the group comes together and they get ethan back but he's never quite the same afterwards and he refuses to talk about his time spent with baron battle.
7: kie's parents' marriage falls apart in the wake of the revelation that zach braun is kie's half brother. (warren is the only one who's not surprised as kie has told him her suspicions before she told anyone else.) the secret comes to light after mr medulla - who accepted a job offer at sky u - fed the class a self-made truth serum for an experiment. zach's parents divorce. kie's parents pretend that they're still in love and renew their vows during the second season finale of the fabulous lives of superhero wives. kie is forced to make an appearance. and she does.
8: during warren and kie's second year at sky university, kie gets kidnapped by katherine "katie" baxter. katie's twin brother, michael, is still in lockup for aiding baron battle the year before.
the stronghold seven (or six, in this case) comb through maxville until they figure out that katie keeps kie at maxwellness, a wellness and beauty center in the richer part of town. katie has sound based powers and used to work at maxwellness as a sound healer, specializing in sound wellness.
they save kie in the nick of time. had they been any later, she would have died. it takes months for kie to get back to her former power-level, and herself, and she grapples with this more than she cares to admit but ends up talking to warren about this regardless because she trusts him.
9: during warren and kie's third and final year at sky university, josie stronghold dies. ms stronghold has always been more of a mother to kie than her own mother has ever been. and so she goes to the funeral and grieves. (she will never forget will's haunted eyes nor steve's anguished scream).
the majority of the superhero community show up for the funeral, khione's parents included. and after a quick chat with principal powers, kie goes off to find warren and the others. the stronghold seven end up sneaking into the paper lantern after hours and tell each other their favorite josie stronghold related memories.
during this year, mr medulla reveals himself to be an undercover villain with immense knowledge, telepathic and telekinetic abilities. he is working together with baron battle, who is still out there too.
after warren and kie graduate from sky university, the stronghold seven is officially formed: the team consists of the leader and namesake, will stronghold; layla williams; warren peace; magenta lewis; zach braun; ethan banks and khione goossens.
they often work together but it is not uncommon that the group splits up into smaller teams: zach, ethan and magenta work together and will, layla, warren and kie work together too.
more often than not, however, kie and warren work together as a duo.

Old Vienna
Lotte Tobisch
Anno 1963
Charlotte „Lotte“ Tobisch-Labotýn (* 28. März 1926 in Wien; † 19.

Archivists on the Issues: Popular Culture and the Presence of Archival Limits [Part 1]
Archivists on the Issues is a forum for archivists to discuss the issues we are facing today. Today’s post comes from Burkely Hermann (me), Metadata Librarian for the National Security Archive and current I&A Blog Coordinator. There will be spoilers for each of the animated series, films, and other media he will be discussing. This post is reprinted from the Issues and Advocacy blog where it was published on Dec. 6, 2022. It was also published on the Wading Through the Cultural Stacks WordPress on Jan. 16, 2023.
Lord Theodore dissuades Elianna from entering the royal archives in the first episode of Bibliophile Princess
At the end of the first episode of the currently airing fantasy romance anime, Bibliophile Princess, the protagonist, Princess Elianna Bernstein (voiced by Reina Ueda) is physically blocked and dissuaded from entering the royal archives. When combined with other events, she breaks down and cries, feeling she has lost it all. Her ban from the royal archives later turns out to be a measure to protect her from a nefarious plot. Her vast knowledge of the archives' holdings is praised for its positive effects on society. This depiction of archival limits is not unique, however. It is widespread across popular culture, across what could be called "the cultural stacks". In this post, I'll note other examples of archival limits in popular culture, connect the depictions to the SAA's Code of Ethics and Core Values, and other issues in the archival field.
Scholars, such as Sue McKemmish, Michael Piggott, Barbara Reed, Frank Upward, Jocelyn Fenton Stitt, and Sarah Tyson, define archival limits as barriers created when documents pass into hands of archival institutions from their creators. These limits inhibit attempts to use those records to tell family stories while circumscribing any efforts to reclaim archival records about enslaved people or utilize these records to fulfill other useful purposes. One of the most pertinent examples of archival limits in popular culture is the 1996 mockumentary by Cheryl Dunye, The Watermelon Woman. The film has been regarded by scholars, like Jolie Braun, as critiquing how archives and libraries control access to records, and revealing power relations that undergird research in these spaces.
In the eighty-six-minute film, the protagonist, played by (and embodying) Cheryl, is dismissed by a White male reference librarian (played by David Rakoff). He tells her to check reference books in the "Black", "film", and "women" categories to learn about a Black female actress in a 1930s film set on a plantation who is only credited as "The Watermelon Woman". Later, he begrudgingly searches his computer and finds information, directing her to records about the film's director. The latter is unsuccessful, as it doesn't have the information she is looking for. As I noted in my review of the film for The American Archivist Reviews Portal, this librarian represents collections which reinforce cultural bias through marginalizing views that are not White, heteronormative, and male. The same is the case in archives, since they are, like museums, libraries, and galleries, not neutral spaces. Rather, they are contested ones.
Later in the film, Cheryl travels to a collective feminist lesbian archive known as Center for Lesbian Information & Technology (C.L.I.T.) Archive, where she meets a White female archivist (played by Sarah Schulman). Although she finds documents and photographs of the Black female actress, who she has identified as Fae Richards, the archivist is protective of the records. She doesn't even let Cheryl, or her friend, film what she found. She also declares that all White people in the records have their faces crossed out to make the archive more "inclusive". In this way, Cheryl becomes alienated in a lesbian archive, even though she is a lesbian herself. In actual archives, guidance on what to do with "offensive items" does not always exist, even in established codes of conduct or ethics. Sometimes it is only confronted when working with patrons, donors, or others. This is undoubtedly the case in the film, with photographs of White lesbians seen as offensive by CLIT. Measures were taken to counter White values by the archive, even though the methods used run afoul of existing archival codes of ethics.
There are many examples in popular culture of archival limits beyond those in Bibliophile Princess and The Watermelon Woman. In a pivotal scene of the sci-fi comedy film, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the archival record from the Magrathean Public Archive, published by the Commercial Council of Magrethea, cuts off before revealing the name of the supercomputer that Deep Thought created to reveal this ultimate question. A message states that the information has been deleted. It is an example of an archival limit. It is never revealed why the information was deleted or who removed the information. This deletion, which implies that the original record remains untouched and is intact, rather than completely unreadable (i.e. erased), violate the stated principles within the SAA Core Values. These values state that archivists should strive to expand usage and access to collections for potential and current users of archival records, while serving the broad range of people who "seek to locate and use the information found in evidentiary records." Deleting important information reduces access to records and does a disservice to users who wish to access the records.
