Description: You got caught up in the fight between the McCall pack and the Dread Doctors a year ago and now you have something to tell the pack but soon after, everything started going according to your plan...well except the mate part.

You sat next to Lydia, your hand in hers as Scott stared at the floor with a look of deep thought. Everyone else in the room was silent as they wrapped there head around everything you had just said. You knew it was a lot for someone to take in but they needed to know from you…not from Melissa once you couldn’t walk and she had to get you a carer.

“Why didn’t you tell us from the start…Y/N the things you’ve been doing and getting involved in…you could’ve died…” Scott looked up sadly and you let your eyes fall to the floor in shame.

“I found out last year…after the dread doctors…I thought it was because…Theo threw me into that pipe…but it wasn’t.” Stiles shot a furious glare at Theo who was staring at the floor with guilt.

“Stop it Stiles. If he hadn’t done that I wouldn’t of found out for years or until I couldn’t walk one day. I’m actually grateful for that injury but I don’t want to be on medication for the rest of my life…I want you to turn me while I’m strong enough to survive.” You asked with determination all over your face making sure he knew you had thought about it.

“I don-Are you sure?” Scott asked seriously but before you could say anything Derek let out a huff before speaking up.

“Why the hell are you hesitating? She’s ill Scott! With all due respect if she didn’t want it she wouldn’t of asked.” Derek snapped and your eyes shot up to his face in surprise. You and Derek only met shortly after the Anuk-ite attack due to joining Scott shortly after the dread doctors when they saved you from Theo and his band of merry chimera’s.

Derek was quiet but polite enough despite that Stiles calls him sourwolf, however you found him calming to be around. He didn’t speak to you much but he was always looking out for the pack since he’d been back even the members that were new. It helped that he wasn’t too bad to look at with his black stubble, piercing pale green eyes and god like body.

“Woah there sourwolf! Calm your shit. Scott is obviously going to do it if she wants the bite.” Stiles huffed sassily as he stood to get all up Derek’s face.

“Stiles sit your cute little ass down!” Lydia snorted as she grabbed Stiles’ top dragging him back down to his seat at the other side of her.

“Aww you think my ass is cute.” Stiles preened happily as she rolled her eyes affectionately at him.

“When would you like to do it?” Scott asked with a sad smile.

“It’s not like we need to arrange it Scott. You have fangs and I have my body wherever we are.” You snorted with a teary laugh earning a laugh from everyone including the parents of the pack which had been pretty quiet until now.

“Where would you feel most comfortable?” Scott asked with a little more humour this time.

“We can do it at the loft?” Derek suggested absently making you smile at him brightly.

“Why would she want to do it at your grubby loft Derek…seriously are you feeling okay today? She needs to be somewhere more sterile.” Stiles grumbled sarcastically and his dad let out a sigh before smacking Stiles round the back of his head.

“Hey that child abuse!” Stiles screeched and his dad raised his brows.

“You’re over 18…technically its just plain old abuse. Though I’m sure the Sheriff will let me off with a warning.” He informed him with a smirk as Stiles just gaped at him.

“I would actually like to do it at the loft it’s the most secluded place so if I lose control we’re far enough from people that one of your can stop me.” You commented reasonably.

“Good point. Since its winter break we have time to help you learn control before your back at Yale.” Scott replied causally and you suddenly went silent, frozen in place.

“I’m not going back to Yale I’m transferring to the same school as you Scott.” Suddenly Melissa’s voice was booming.

“Like hell you’re giving up Yale! Why would you want to transfer!? You got into a blue collar school on full scholarship honey…” Melissa looked like she was about to have a heart attack.

“Because I’m not happy there! I’m too far away…everyone at that school is either a genius or an asshole! I hate it I miss my pack…I was an orphan before this and now I have a whole family…I don’t want to be away from you guys.” You muttered sadly as you stared up at the closest person you had to a mother these days.

“Are you that miserable there?” She asked, guilt written all over her face.

“Yes…” You muttered slowly and she just nodded before walking over to you and dragging you up to wrap her arms around you.

“Okay honey.” Melissa whispered soothingly into your hair as you clung to her like a life line.

“I would like to do it tomorrow…my health isn’t too bad right now but that could change on any given day and I don’t wanna risk it.” You stated calmly as Melissa pulled away from you and everyone nodded quietly.

The rest of the night was perfect, you all had dinner while talking about classes and how relationships were going. Malia and Scott were still together, Lydia and Stiles were going strong, Mason and Corey are enjoying their first year at college together. Melissa was still seeing Chris surprisingly, Noah was still single but you’d told him about the new owner of the diner that found the Sheriff attractive earning a groan from Stiles and a laugh from everyone else.

You stared at the loft doors with serious determination, your heart racing a mile a minute as your fingers twitched against the cold hard metal handle. You nod to yourself as you yanked the door open to see Derek and Scott stood around the table in the lofts entrance.

You gave Scott a small smile before sending a nod to Derek in thanks for letting you use the loft. Scott gave you a sad smile in return like he was giving you some sort of death sentence but for you it was going to be a better life.

“Are you sure?” Scott asked on last time as you lifted your top so Scott could bite your abdomen.

“Yes I’m sure.” You huffed with a humoured smile as Derek let out a growl.

“Okay I got it Derek. Jeez you’re really demanding for a beta.” Scott snorted playfully before he bent down and bit your waist gently. You heard yourself let out a scream but after that everything went black.

“-she’ll wake up soon just stop pacing.” You heard a voice say at the side of you but you couldn’t open your eyes.

“I know but it’s been 24 hours Scott this isn’t normal…They either get stronger or get weaker…I’ve never seen someon—her heart rate changed…Y/N?” It was Scott and Derek.

You sniffed the air and suddenly the scent of something hit your nose and you eyes shot open. You sat up and looked at Scott with a frown. You stood up cautiously and began sniffing Scott which made his eyes widen. You frown as you realised as much as you could tell he was your Alpha that wasn’t what smelt so good.

You head spun round instantly and you eyes locked with Derek. It was him…why did he smell so good? You thought absently as you turned around completely and walked over to him. His eyes flashed blue at you making your flash in return.

“You smell so good…” You whispered as you started circling him as you smelt his body.

“Derek what the hell is happening?” Scott muttered with wide eyes from across the room.

“I may have failed to mention I was 98% certain she’s my mate…but only when your wolves can you detect it from both sides…” Derek chuckled awkwardly as he blushed under your constant attentions but never moved away.

“Mate?” You perked up at the word and nuzzled against Derek’s neck as he allowed you to hang off his neck like a monkey as you practically climbed him like a tree.

“Okay this is because she’s a new wolf…she’ll learn to control it eventually…maybe I should go until she can control it?” Derek whispered and you instantly started growling.

“Mine.” You snapped as Scott tried to approach.

“I have zero intention of stealing Derek, Y/N you can keep him.” Scott muttered as he got closer but the second he took one step you launched, so before you could make contact, Scott let out an almighty roar than made even Derek’s knee’s wobble as you cowered low to the ground.

You blinked and suddenly felt a little more yourself thought you could still smell how good Derek smelt but now you knew better than to climb a man you barely knew like he was Mount Everest. You looked at Derek in horror and then at Scott with an exasperated look to why he let you climb Derek before doing his alpha roar.

“S-Sorry Derek I d-didn’t mean to do that…” You stuttered until you remembered what he’d said.

“It’s okay…I get the urges but I’m a born wolf so…I can control it. I’m sorry I should’ve told you before you took the bite but…your health…” Derek looked so guilty so when you started laughing he looked…shocked wasn’t a word that could do his face justice.

“You don’t have to apologise…you being my mate would’ve just been another reason for me to turn. What girl in the world doesn’t fantasies about having one man or in this case werewolf made to be her perfect match? It helps that you’re easy on the eyes and have a six pack.” You joked and Scott looked horrified by what you had said like you said the wrong thing but suddenly Derek started laughing and Scott looked even more worried and you suddenly remembered this was the first time you’d seen the older man laugh and it was the most beautiful thing you think you’d ever seen.

“You broke Derek.” Scott snorted as Derek finally stopped laughing.

“Shut up Scott.” Derek grumbled and suddenly he was back to his usual stoic self.

“Yeah Scott shut up.” You teased as Scott’s phone started ringing. The second he answered you heard Melissa’s voice over the phone asking his a million questions.

“She’s awake mom. Yes you can come over.” Scott huffed as his mother hung up so she could make her way over.

Within twenty minutes the whole pack was in the loft with smiles but all the new smells made you uneasy so you involuntarily moved closer to Derek and you almost thought you’d gotten away with it too but Lydia’s voice echoed through the loft and everyone was looking.

“What was that?” She sassed as she pointed between you and Derek.

“What was what?” You muttered innocently as you fought the urge to creep closer to Derek again.

“You know what. You moved closer to Derek. Scott’s your alpha and we’ve known you longer…yet you moved closer to the one wolf you know less than anyone in this pack.” Lydia stated like she had you pegged.

“No I did not.” You scoffed as your eyes flickered to Derek who looked strangely amused.

“You just gonna stand there and let this interrogation ensue? I will take you down with me.” You hissed softly and he just smirked, his arms crossing defiantly.

“I’m Derek’s mate. He hid it from us.” You threw him straight under the metaphorical bus and he looked terrified.

“I can’t believe you just did that.” Derek grumbled as everyone stared at them in shock.

“I can’t believe you weren’t gonna help me. Some mate you are.” You huffed with a childish glare and suddenly Derek let out a whine and your eyes shot open fully.

“Aww I didn’t mean that I’m sorry.” You sighed sadly and he nodded with a blush on his face.

“Sourwolf has been tamed…It’s a miracle.” Stiles cheered sarcastically and Lydia slapped his arm scoldingly.

“Why does everyone think its okay to slap me?” Stiles whined with an exasperated sigh.

“Because you never learn to keep your mouth closed.” Lydia sasses back making Stile shrink instantly.

“Congratulations if anyone deserves a mate in this world its you dear nephew.” Peter stated with a sad smile.

“I don’t know much about wolves but I’d say we should probably leave them to talk about it together…alone. Let’s go you supernatural young adults and fellow pack parents.” Melissa shouted sassily as she round everyone up but not before pulling you into a motherly hug.

“I’m happy this went better than anyone had expected. I like Hale, he’s loyal and in this world that all I can ask for you. I know I didn’t give birth to you but I have loved being a mother figure for the short year you were still a kid…” Melissa whispered softly, tears in her eyes as she wiped the already fallen ones from your face.

“I could be 30 and you’d still be the only person I’d ever consider a mother. Thank you for everything you have done for me.” You sobbed happily as she pulled you into another hug.

“I’m kind of glad you’re coming home. I’ve missed you…Scott wont let me paint his nails.” Melissa chuckled humorously before pulling away.

“Me too…I love you.” You muttered through a laugh.

“I love you too kiddo. Also Chris got back from France while you were sleeping. He brought you a present.” Melissa called over her shoulder as she turned to leave.

“Someone’s trying to earn brownie points?” You giggled and she shot you a wink before leaving out the loft door, Scott pulling it shut as he turned green with disgust as he tried to ignore what he’d just heard.

The second everyone had driven off you turned to Derek with shy smile. You had no idea how you supposed to act now everyone was gone. He was your mate but you barely knew one another and that was evident by how still Derek was.

“Was it hard not acting on your impulses?” You whispered as you resisted the urge to reach for him.

“Very…It doesn’t help that you’re so sweet to everyone…” Derek grumbled and you frowned softly as if asking what he meant but he shook his head.

“If we’re going to be mates…maybe should be more open with each other?” You suggested gently and Derek let out a sigh but nodded in agreement.

“When other wolves or supernaturals come near you…my wolf see’s them as competition…since we’re not completely mated.” He admitted awkwardly.

“S-So if I hugged Liam?” You asked nervously and Derek let out a growl in reply earning a smile from you.

“Okay…got it. How do we mate completely?” You asked curiously making Derek’s eyes widen.

“Exchanging bites…during a full moon…usually done during…ya know.” Derek flung his hands around like you knew what he meant and you caught on pretty quick but you didn’t let him know you just turned your head to the side looking at him innocently.

“I’m going to hell.” Derek groaned and you couldn’t hold back your laughter anymore.

His eyes shot up at the sound when he finally realised you knew what he meant. He shot you a glare, his arms crossing angrily as he stared you down. You gave a sweet smile in return, as you approached him slowly. He froze as you got closer as if he was trying to stop himself from touching you.

“I’m not that innocent Derek. You mean we need to bite one another whilst in the midst of some passionate full moon sex?” You snickered and Derek flushed but nodded in reply.

“Sounds kinky.” You giggled as you chest your chest against at Derek’s arms that were still folded.

“Once we mate…we’re together forever… you understand that right? If one of us dies then other will likely have to be put down…” Derek spoke seriously and your eyes widened at his words.

“W-Why?” You whispered fearfully.

“Because its documented that the few mates that have lost their other half go feral…but most mates die at the same time of old age usually.” Derek stated sadly as he reached for you only to pull back at the last second.

“Oh…well don’t die on me then.” You whispered with mild humour but mostly seriousness.

“C-Can I…never mind.” Derek huffed under his breath.

“Kiss me? Hug me?” You asked as he blushed.

“I’m so down for either.” You added and his eyes widened momentarily before softening.

Instead of words Derek’s arms circled your waist as his lips pushed against yours with a firm yet loving pressure that made your wolf howl. You gripped his t-shirt as his right hand cupped your cheek so gently you hardly believed it was the same, full shifting vicious black wolf that you’d seen in battle, yet it was. As he pulled away you let out a little whine before sending him a pout which made him smile happily.

“Yeah…nope…you’re gonna have to bring that right back on in here wolf man.” You stated as you pulled him down, Derek smiled into the kiss but happily obliged with you commanding request.

“Yep you’ve ruined me. Never letting you out my paws now.” You chuckled sweetly and Derek shook his head at your confidence before placing a kiss on your cheek.

“Come on its only 8 how about I take you out for dinner?” Derek asked, a smirk slipping onto his face as his eyebrow raised in a playful way.

“Are you asking me on a date Derek Hale?” You giggled equally as playful.

“If you call the local Italian place a date.” Derek muttered with a slight blush on his face.

“Let’s go DerBear.” You giggled as you skipped towards you door.

“Yeah that’s not gonna be a thing.” Derek grumbled as he grabbed his keys.

“Mhmm yeah it is my lovely mate.” You argued as you ran off ahead of him.

You knew this was just the beginning for you and Derek but you couldn’t help the amount of affection you could already feel for the older man. He was sweet with you which probably helped since you knew he wasn’t one to be over affectionate even with Scott who he loves like a brother but you couldn’t help but be happy it was only you who could have him like this.

You couldn’t wait to find out what your lives had in store for you and your mate.

“He’s working for them, YN”

These words keep swirling around in your head, your chest heavy with pain.

You still felt like you couldn’t breathe, that what you heard wasn’t true and it was all a big misunderstanding. Theo couldn’t be working for the Dread Doctors. Not him, not your boyfriend. He was sweet and gentle and always helped you.

It just couldn’t be him.

Oh, but it was.

That little voice inside of your head was confirming what your heart didn’t want to acknowledge.

You heard someone knocking on your front door before you heard “Y/N?”, a voice which you immediately recognized.

Theo.

You got up from your bed and made your way downstairs, grateful that your parents weren’t home for the week. You stayed hidden in the shadows so he couldn’t see you through the window.

“Y/N, I know you’re home. Please just open the door and let me explain” his voice sounded so broken, which made a part of you want to open the door and let your feelings take over.

But he betrayed your trust. You couldn’t do that. You couldn’t allow yourself to fall into yet another of his traps like you foolishly did the first time.

“Please go away” your voice spoke before your mind could stop you.

“Y/N, I can explain everything, just please hear me out. I never meant for anyone to get hurt, this wasn’t part of the plan. Please just let me explain what happened and you can decide what you want to do after. I’m begging you” you were holding back tears as you listened to him, your forehead pressed against your front door.

You knew how much of a mistake you were about to make, but you couldn’t help it. Your hand found its way to the doorknob, unlocking the door and opening it to reveal a desperate looking Theo.

“Come in” you left the door open and made your way to the living room to take a seat on your couch, knowing that he was going to follow you.

You sat down and looked at him expectantly, trying to keep your emotions at bay.

“Can I take a seat?” he motioned to the other end of the couch, looking at you for approval.

Once you nodded your head, he took a seat and took a deep breath.

“I never meant for this to happen, for things to spiral out of control and possibly put your life in any kind of danger. Hurting you or the pack was never my intention. Baby, they were going to kill you, said if I didn’t do what they asked me, they were going to kill all of you, torture you right in front of me. I couldn’t take any chances, not when your life was practically in my hands. I promised you I was never going to hurt you and I intend to keep that promise. It was supposed to be over, but they just kept making me do more and more and each time they would figure out new ways in which they could hurt you and I couldn’t allow that to happen. I’m sorry for everything, I never meant for this to happen, baby. You have to believe me” by the end of his speech, you had tears falling down your cheeks at a rapid pace.

“Was any of it real?” you whispered, your eyes focusing on anything else but Theo.

“Every single second with you was real, baby. There wasn’t a single moment when being with you was fake or pretending, not one. I love you, and I’m so sorry for lying to you and keeping things from you, hurting you. Everything I did was to protect you, baby. Everything” he dared to take your hand in his, his hopes lifting a little when you didn’t pull away.

You knew you shouldn’t believe him. He had been lying to you almost your entire relationship and hiding the fact that he was working for the enemy.

But you did believe him. Your heart truly believed everything he had said to you. Why? Because you knew Theo, your Theo, and he would never intentionally do anything that would harm you or your friends. He would never betray you like that if he had a choice, which he clearly hadn’t been given.

“I wish you had just told me from the beginning” you started out, making his head snap up to look at you. “I probably would’ve understood. You lied to me and hurt my friends, and that’s fucked up. I love you, Theo, and I do believe that this wasn’t your choice. But baby, it’s going to take me a while before I trust you again. I’m willing to fight for us, but I need time to process everything before things can go back to normal” you explained, putting a hand on his cheek.

He leaned into your touch, his heart feeling full again after being ripped out of his chest.

“You take all the time you need, baby. I’ll be right here waiting for you to come back to me. I love you, and I would go to the end of the Earth to make sure you were safe and loved. I love you, Y/N”

“I love you, Theo” you whispered and leaned in, pressing your lips against his soft ones.

He wasn’t perfect, and he had made mistakes, but you loved him either way and nothing was going to change that.

It's the fact rewatching this scene you see that part of pre hell theo. Like he purposely baited Schrader into pressing the button again and again to be able to break the zip tie before tieing schrader back up and turning the voltage back on essentially killing him.

It was a monument to who he was and also ironic to me. Like that voltage must of hurt but then also this is a dude who dealt with the DDs and he definitely either doesnt feel pain properly or has such a high resistance it didn't bother him going back to "real pain is emotional pain" because it's true that was really true in theos case.

He's been shot, tortured, experimented on etc yet he didn't show signs of feeling any true pain until Tara, until it was a never ending loop of his sister ripping the heart that was hers out. Yeah it must of hurt physically but its more the emotional aspect of it I think for theo there.

Anyway going back to the "I'm not impressed" wet shirt scene, theo brought back his manipulative ways and got schrader to do what he wanted. Like he was smiling, speaking in that old S5 theo tone knowing exactly what to say to trigger the man into the response he wanted.

Like don't get me wrong schrader deserved what he got but I dunno I liked that we seen that small spark of Pre hell theo. Like the pack may be against killing but those skills, the things theo will know and do would be big help to the pack, or well the pack members left since when Scott and co left/leave after s6 finale Liam is the only wolf with Corey and Mason and I love them both but Corey would have to rely on his stealth and also Mason being with him, neither heal quick and Mason is human end of the day so you just know Liams gonna be like no stay back etc plus when Alec shows up he's a brand new beta being dumped on Liam a little bit.

Re enter Theodore Karl Raeken. A fighter, someone who will make damn sure Liam lives to the next day potentially through any means. It was his name specifically Scott said in 6x20 to get theo to go, Liam only survived that day because Theo showed up just in time otherwise you just know those hunters were not leaving that hospital alive.

Okay this is going to be a very rambling post because I’m tired and can’t sleep until I yell about this a little so here I am to vent on a throw away account😅

Scott McCall is a character that I don’t always love and I’m not going to lie and pretend like he is my favorite anything because he’s not. Everyone who I’ve talked about teen wolf with can tell you I have my issues with him and honestly with the writing of the show in general. BUT I will never understand the hate for him. I’ve been thinking about it because I was doom scrolling TikTok for a bit before I had to go to work and came across a video talking about how horrible Scott is and the thing is that they literally made zero valid points (to me at least. I am aware I am bias and I have a bad habit of doubling down on liking a character if I think someone is being unfair or anything so I don’t know). One of her points was literally that Scott “uses Derek as a weapon after dosing him with kanima (I can’t spell don’t tell me if that’s wrong I’ll cry😌) venom” which…… doesn’t happen?? I just rewatched the show recently and I’ll admit I don’t really like season 2 and I have issues with quite a bit of it but Gerard is trying ti play Scott because he has something over him. Allison. Derek would(probably) never bite Gerard willingly and Gerard knows this. But he thinks he can outplay and force Scott in a position where he has to choose between Allison and him being a werewolf. Derek is already paralyzed when Scott is put in this position. This would’ve happened no matter what. Scott just outsmarted Gerard because he and Deaton had a plan. One that Scott doesn’t really tell anyone. We as an audience don’t even know so why would Scott tell DEREK?!? Derek who has done anything to earn his trust they are ally’s and that is it. They aren’t friends (yet?) (I don’t know Derek is weird😭). I don’t know if any of this makes sense but what can you do. I can and probably will talk about it more but I am running in like three or four hours of sleep in like the past two days and I’m sick so this is just to help my brain shut up I doubt anyone is reading anyways😅

Now another thing is she said that Scott letting Deucalion live was irresponsible. One he is a teenager…… two Scott beloved in second chances. Oh no😭 he’s such a bad person because he doesn’t think people and irredeemable and deserve to die😭😭 I have never seen people say stuff like that for superhero’s who do that same thing unless they are people who think the punisher is a role model. Now I’m sure people have but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t really happen and we literally see Deucalion being better!!! Like??? Also she said that Theo deserves to die and I’m not going to turn this into a Theo post but how are you going ti get mad at someone being used as a weapon (I still think that dumb but can at least kinda see where she’s coming from) then say that the kid who has been manipulated and twist into the worst version of himself so that he can be a weapon deserves to be dead. Mind you Scott literally isn’t the reason Theo isn’t still in the Skin-walker prison?? Like Scott immediately wants to send him back?? Liam is the one who keeps him out because he is in love thinks Theo will be useful

Last thing (for now) is People who say the Acott is a horrible friend to Stiles. I don’t get it. At all. Like I am convinced we watched a different show?? ESPECIALLY IF THEY MENTION SCOTT NOT TAKING STILES SIDE WHEN HE FOUND OUT THE STILES KILLED DONOVAN. Nobody was actually communicating in that scene which was Theo’s whole plan(I’m sorry Theo baby I love you but I will always throw you under the bus with this😔 I have to. It is literally entirety your fault) Scott was never going to be okay with what Theo told him Stiles did. Theo used the guilt and fear that stiles was feeling to get in his head. Stiles was scared because he just fucking killed someone. He didn’t know what to do. Scott literally apologized after he found out the truth and made sure stiles knew he still loved him. I don’t get why so many people seem to think that Scott being manipulated means he’s a bad friend?? Like he and stiles werent seeing eye to eye about Theo from the moment they saw him because Scott is to trusting and Stiles to distrustful but Scott is listening and literally on stiles side UNTIL Theo gets in Scotts head. Theo wanted to drive everyone away from Scoot and turn them against him so he used Scott’s weakness. Wanting to trust and see the good in people and then he made Stlies, one of the only people who would always be by Scott (and vice versa), into a gray area when everything was already scary and new and just not going well. WHICH IS LITERALLY THE PLAN??

Yo I have a headcanon for you.

I bet Liam hates flying and planes because of his thing with hanging off the building. So whenever he and Theo are going on trips or something. Liam is very ritualistic, like he has to not be by the window, not just cuz of seeing how high you are through the window but also so if he gets nervous, he can get up and go to the bathroom. And he has to be comfortable in sweats and he has to have his headphones. He definitely takes his shoes off so he can go into a little crouch on the seat if he’s scared.

Theo knows this and usually takes the window seat and takes care of the airport stuff like the boarding pass and passports and going through all that crap so Liam can prepare for the flight and get in the zone and whatever. He always uses the same airline as well.

that makes so much sense, yeah!! liam doesnt usually have trouble admitting when hes scared of something or if hes not good at something, hes quite open about stuff like that. he tells both theo and hayden that he doesnt actually know how to ride a horse instead of pretending that he knows what hes doing, he screams and tells stiles that the fire extinguisher stuff hitting his skin doesnt feel good, he hesitates and admits to scott that hes unsure about being able to face the anuk-ite, etc.

but, he never asks for help. in s4 when hes struggling with adjusting to being a werewolf, he isolates himself: he doesnt talk to mason and he doesnt open up to scott either. when hes having the hallucinations of the berserkers and is afraid to be alone, he cant get himself to outright ask mason for help and instead deals with it on his own. hes constantly running off on his own in s6 and never asking anyone for help, expect theo (i briefly talked about that in this post)

so he probably wouldnt admit to theo just how uncomfortable he is. maybe he'd allude to not really liking it, but he wouldn't outright say anything, i dont think. everytime a fear of his is connected to some trauma of his, he keeps quiet about it. if its something relatively trivial, he doesnt mind, but if its something serious? he never talks about those issues (his IED, his shame and guilt, the berserkers, what brett did to him at the zoo, etc)

good thing is, liam wouldnt have to tell theo about it in order for theo to understand. when liam gets triggered at the zoo, theo literally correctly guesses what his problem is. he doesnt just think that liam is overreacting or anything, theo is genuinely concerned and wants to understand whats triggering liam so badly. he even asks him "scared of heights? dont like cages?" in this case, it was more the cages since the incident with brett is what liams issue was, but i like that the show included the tidbit about heights. i definitely think that liam is scared of heights (talked about that a bit here too) so him having trouble being in planes makes a lot of sense to me!

and theos intuition when it comes to liam is so good that hed immediately notice and do things to help him without even saying anything. they constantly communicate without talking anyway, so theo would probably take one look at liam and his "must protect" sensors would go off. since theo is liams anchor, i like to think that he'd wear theos clothes during a flight (even though theo is literally sitting right next to him lmao) because he finds his scent calming. and theo quite literally anchors him down while they're in the air. and the headphones!!! absolutely! i love the hc that music is a huge hobby of liams, i mean. he literally tries using music as his anchor at the beginning of s5. it must be something he finds very calming yk.

also the image of a moody, sleepy liam in soft clothes just quietly trailing after theo in the airport and constantly leaning on him (putting his forehead against the back of theos neck, leaning against his side, holding onto his hand and playing with his fingers to distract himself) while theo takes care of everything is so adorable, i think im gonna cry.

Late one night, after a grueling double shift, Y/N and Stiles found themselves alone in the employee locker room. The adrenaline of the day’s surgeries and emergencies had morphed into a palpable tension between them. Stiles glanced over at her, his gaze never leaving her frame as he took off his coat, leaning against a locker.

“ You were incredible today."

I find the idea of Alec (and admittedly the idea of Theo and Alec) really fascinating because of when he joined the pack and how we know?? Literally, nothing about him once the series ended?? So I was wondering what your favourite characterisations or headcanons are for your Alec, maybe some fun facts or reasons behind why you write him the way that you do because I honestly love the way that you write him, I would like to crumble him up and eat him so he is a part of me forever (in a non weird way, I just think about your Alec a lot and always want to know/read more about him)

Thank you! And would fully agree—part of what makes Alec interesting is that he’s a such a blank slate, given how little we know.

But as for my headcanons for him, I do like to think they’re rooted in the crumbs we got in the show. He’s awkward and has no idea how to be a werewolf because, like Scott, he was a completely human kid before he was bitten. He doesn’t have an alpha or a pack around him, and he’s being hunted. So, he’s alone, and terrified, both of the external forces—the hunters after him, being found out by the humans around him—and his internal struggles, e.g. being a werewolf when he doesn’t even originally know that’s what he is, losing control, etc.

And then Scott and Argent come along and rescue him, and (we assume) bring him back to help keep him safe while he figures out what to do next. And he gets introduced to the McCall pack chaos, which is chaos in the best way—warm and welcoming and filled with strays, just like him—and so now he can be awkward and terrified while no longer being alone, and the terror part can be worked on: he’s surrounded by people who get it, and who aren’t terrified of him, because they’re like him, or because they understand and accept and love people like him (and, maybe, him too, one day).

And then there’s Theo, of course, who I have extremely long and detailed headcanons for, built up over six years 😆 (seriously, what the hell). And I think Theo, as the stray accepted into the pack (even if he refuses to let himself see or believe it) right before Alec, would have a soft spot for him. Not to mention that Theo in general in my mind is looking for any and all opportunities to help make up for the things he’s done, and helping someone like Alec would be an obvious application. And—as has probably come through in some of my stories—I think Alec would be incredibly starved for all of that, and so would end up sort of helplessly drawn to Theo, even knowing—because of how obvious it is—that Theo is fully wrapped up in Liam.

And then there’s Nolan, which I realize you didn’t actually ask about. 😆 But the reason I ended up drawn to those two as a pairing, is because I think for both of them, Alec’s newness to being a werewolf would be something they share. Nolan ended up terrified of werewolves and the supernatural because of his experiences, but all of his experiences were with people who had come to terms with being a supernatural, and weren’t necessarily afraid of their own abilities or what they were. But Alec is, and I think that gives Nolan an opportunity to realize that not all supernaturals are the Beast, or even Scott or Liam or Theo. Some of them get thrown into this life as unwillingly as he did, and some of them are just trying to survive day by day, while maintaining their humanity. And that new perspective helps Nolan keep coming to terms with his new reality, and also his own past.

So anyway, those are some of my Alec thoughts, which do crack me up given we saw him for maybe five total minutes in the show. 😆 Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share!

Afterthoughts

He’s never been one to be easily bothered, or shaken by something that happens to him, or around him, but the events keep replaying over and over in his mind. It’s seared into his brain like a memory that’s almost a dream, but not entirely. It feels unreal, along with also being equivalent to some weird memory that haunts him at night, and he doesn’t even remember half of what he did as the beast. He only knows what he hears.

It’s wasn’t that long. Liam said that he was only transformed into the beast for a small amount of time, but it’s not even that it wasn’t really him, but it’s the fact he was used to hurt people. It’s almost like someone took something from him and he can’t it back. Mason can’t find a way to not feel responsible for what happened. The beast couldn’t transform without him. He was the final key.

It haunts his dream, his very core, and every night that he sleeps, it replays over and over again in his mind. It never stops, never takes a break, and he wants to tell Liam, or Scott something, but he doesn’t know how to start. He’s stuck. Stuck between a dream and reality. The past creeps over him whenever he tries to shove it away from his mind. It approaches him quietly and it’s starting to catch up to him.

He leans back in his seat, swallowing down the ache in his throat, and trying to close his eyes to erase the memory of the dread doctors. He wants to erase the beast, and the haunting nights he’s had, or anything else having to do with that night. Is it a nightmare if you’re awake?

“What are you doing?” Corey taps on the window, smiling softly at him, and he opens the passenger side door. Mason smiles back, not really letting it reach his eyes, but Corey doesn’t have to say a word. He already knows.

“Thinking.” Mason admits, just as Corey sits down beside him, and turns to face him. Corey places his hand in his, gently squeezing, and not really sure what to say, but words aren’t needed. They never really were between them. It’s unspoken.

“Thinking…can I help with this thinking?” Corey asks, concern crossing over his face, as he notices the hesitation in Mason’s body language.

“No. I don’t know. What if I’m…different now?” I feel like the beast is still around and I can’t shake it.” Mason sighs, playing with Corey’s shirt sleeve, and letting him move closer.

“I think we are all different to some extent, but you will always be Mason to me. The one that almost knocked over the books in the library while Liam pretended he wasn’t listening in on our conversation.” Corey laughs, making Mason smile at the memory, but before he can say anything, Corey continues, and doesn’t let him interrupt.

“The person that took on a berserker with Lydia so he could help his friends and if I remember correctly, you said you didn’t even know about the supernatural then.” Corey squeezes his hand a little harder, anchoring him back to the present, and he nods.

“Honestly, you’re probably one of the best people I’ve been met. I’m biased for sure, but I wish I could do something to help you.” Corey frowns, and his shoulder sag, as he appears almost defeated, and it makes Mason ache at how much Corey’s saddened by his thoughts.

“You don’t have to do anything. just being here, with me, that’s enough.” Mason points out, smiling softy, and kissing Corey gently.

It still needs to be worked out and he needs more time to sort out what happened, but Corey being here, it’s enough. It helps him center himself, bring him back to now, and the night doesn’t seem as long.

“What’s Theo doing?” Corey asks, pulling back and watching the chimera walk towards the lacrosse field.

“Liam found a way to convince him to come. That’s a whole other thing.” Mason rolls his eyes, and Corey nods in agreement. Their friends are….slightly ridiculous but that’s not abnormal.

“You know I love you, right?” Corey asks, and of course he knows. He’s always known, and things have been a little chaotic and they’ve finally settled down now that the war is over, but even so, having Corey here…it makes it better.

Crossovers

Florence Pennyworth, I’m thinking that it would be interesting to see her with Leanna ‘Leah’ Elfman. I don’t have much for her, but I think it would take a little while for the two of them to get along. Leah might sometimes worry Dick is replacing their friendship when he moves into Wayne Manor - not that he’d do it on purpose, but part of her would wonder about it. That being said, I think when Leah can get passed that - they probably have a conversation which makes her realise she was overreacting a little - they’d be OK. Maybe not the closest, but Leah would know something was up when Florence goes missing. She’s out of Gotham by then, but they’d probably text or send silly things to each other, and it’s not like Florence to miss that; so, when she does, Leah does what she can to try helping her friend.

Leonie Murphy and Mackenzie ‘Kenzie’ Merritt would be a reporting team not to be trifled with. Honestly, these two would go at every story they could, determined to quell their insatiable curiosity. Initially, both of them would try to keep things from the other - after all, Vic being Cyborg is a secret Kenzie is determined to keep for him - but eventually they’d be a team to rival even Lois Lane. Also, can we talk about them helping each other with things? Training montage and suit making for Leonie, and her being there for Kenzie when Jason dies and Vic can’t be around?

Tessie Vannelli, the Coles and Tae all grew up in Haly’s Circus with Dick. Viola spent a lot of time with the Vannelli’s after she and Kit arrived - and their lives were turned upside down with the death of their parents getting there - for the pure fact she’s a fire breather; though, she starts as a juggler and progresses there. Tae loves making costumes for her - she’s one of his favourites - and they’re pretty close because of it. All three of them are devastated when her life is turned upside down, and though they’re willing to be there for her, when she goes missing they’re desperate to find her. When it becomes clear it might be more than they can handle, the boys have to get Viola to stop. Even when Haly’s disbands, Viola refuses to give up; and when she hears rumours about Joker? She’s terrified, especially for her friend. So, when Dick returns with their old friend, and the truth of the rumours is revealed? Cue heartbreak but also the three of them trying to help her; Kit is the one who finds it all the hardest, just because that’s the sort of person he is, and Tae is honestly a little afraid of her. Overall though, Circus kids stick together, and they’ll do what they can to make things easier for their childhood friend. Also, I have a feeling Tessie would be shipping Kit and Tae alongside Viola.

Brandy Hayes with Elodie Klecko (a multiverse OC of mine); they’re both part of the Statesmen. I feel the two of them would be pretty good friends, and they’d try to look out for each other whenever possible - be it on missions or just in general life. I can imagine the mayhem they’d cause together, but also banding together when things are happening within the Statesmen.

Callie Raeken with Camila and Ryan McCall (Scott’s cousins). They wouldn’t really have known her before, and I can see Camila taring her with the same scepticism she shows everyone; Ryan would be far more sympathetic towards her, and constantly be trying to make sure she was OK; he’d do the same for Theo as well, but I have a feeling Callie might need that support a little more than her brother. I could totally see him having a crush on her at some point - if it’s reciprocated or not, I don’t know - but he’d always be telling her random facts to try helping. Eventually, Camila would probably realise that Callie wasn’t so bad, it would take a while for them to get there, but when they do she’s one of the most loyal friends a person can have.

Elvira Levitsky and Irisa Kuznetsov. Both of them are Healers - though Elvira’s Tailor skills as well would be something Ris would love to learn more about. Depending on how Elvira left the Little Palace would shift their relationship I think. Irisa left the Little Palace because she hated it there; she ran away, and if they were there together that might make things rocky for the two of them; on the other hand, it might also actually make them closer. Irisa needs someone who can help her figure out what she wants, because this is really the first time she’s done something for herself. The Crows would be a massive help, but if she had someone who understood her a little? That would help her immensely.

Hope Wood would adopt Phoenix Dumbledore on sight. I can totally see Hope sticking up for the girl, especially if she’s sorted into Hufflepuff because Hope misses Cedric. She’d totally be up for taking Phoenix under her wing if she needed the help, and would prank anyone who even tried getting on her nerves (think the twins protecting Harry during second year, and you’ve got how I could see it going). That being said - and I haven’t actually posted anything about them because they became a side characters in Hope’s story - but I have a couple of Beauxbatons OCs. I can’t remember names - they’re in a folder somewhere for old fanfiction planning - but one was a prankster girl who was constantly in trouble, and her best friend who was always trying to get her out of it. I can see him having a soft spot for Phoenix - at least one parent is a teacher - but his friend doesn’t really get along with her due to the connection with Fleur. However, both of them are willing to try helping the girl smile when she needs it, and I feel like at least one of them would occasionally ask Fleur about her when they go back to school.

If I’m sticking with the Nico universe, seeing Teagan O’Neal with A.J. and Teddy Kane would be a lot of fun, I think. I can see A.J. being protective of Nico with everything; especially because of how Teagan and Dick appear to be sometimes as well. I think Teddy would be a little intimidated by her, but would totally be up for helping her integrating a little more with the Titans. I have a whole heap of DC OCs that could also be interesting to explore, but I need to develop them a little more. But I love the idea Teagan and A.J. not exactly seeing eye-to-eye, but if Nico was ever in danger you can bet everything that they’d work together to protect him. No matter what.

Booker’s sibling. I have a really rough idea for another friend of the group, possibly a cheerleader but who doesn’t take things too seriously. They’d probably have issues with Terri in a way, but when things start getting real I can see them helping each other out, and finding a friendship there that they never saw coming (one day I’ll introduce these guys properly, but I hope this is okay for a rough idea at the moment).

he might actually be the only one who was thrown into the supernatural world and was excited about it. I can just imagine him growing up learning about the world through physics and mathematics and chemistry and then he was shown that there's so much more going on, things that didn't make sense before suddenly did.

his friendship with Liam is also so beautiful like I love Scott and Stiles, their friendship is really special, but Mason and Liam? Mason was there for him through thick and thin, his first IED episodes, he realised something was going on with his best friend but he didn't try to push him into explaining he was just there for him. And Liam was so worried about telling him that he is a werewolf. He thought Mason would hate him and wouldn't want to speak to him ever again but Mason was so excited when he found out. He let Liam have his space and tell him on his own terms and when he did he wasn't even a little angry. they really are brothers, maybe a little versions of Scott and Stiles, but also completely different and unique.

Mason knows his strengths and weaknesses. he knows how to use his brain. he may never win a fist fight but he knows how to use his brain and help the pack in the way very few people can.

he knows his biggest weapons are his words and wit. the scene with Theo in the sewers is a beautiful example of that. he didn't have to go with him but he knew the chimera was right and that his idea was better. and later, the conversation is just pure gold. like mason didn't need to yell or say anything particularly hurtful but his words still cut deep.

I'm so sorry I'm rambling but I'll never stop talking about Mason Hewitt. he is one of the best characters in the show and the way they ruined him the movie will always be unforgivable.

I want to point out something that I find interesting.

@bestialitybestiary argues that "I mean you're right, Scott was called out sometimes. But it somehow didn't feel as if he cared that much."

I feel that's a legitimate point of view, but only because the show itself made it a requirement for Scott's heroism. Time after time, characters, both allied and antagonistic, make the point to Scott that he cannot allow his emotions to determine his actions. Here is a very non-exhaustive list.

In Heart Monitor (1x06), Stiles says: "Look, you have something, Scott. Okay? Whether you want it or not, you can do things that nobody else can do. So that means you don't have a choice anymore. It means you have to do something."

In Code Breaker (1x12), Derek says: "You want me to risk my life for your girlfriend? For your stupid little teenage crush that means absolutely nothing? You're not in love, Scott. You're 16 years old. You're a child."

In Ice Pick (2x03), there is this whole conversation:

Deaton: Now that sounds like far too world - weary a thing for a teenager to say. Scott: Sorry. Deaton: You might wanna try a different perspective. This is just entropy at work. This is more the natural way of the universe. But it doesn't necessarily mean it's falling apart. It's just - Changing shape.

In Battlefield (2x11) there is this one:

Melissa: Hey, something's happening, isn't it? Something more than a lacrosse game? Scott: You should go. Melissa: Oh, I'm not going anywhere. And everything that I said before, forget it. All of it. Okay? If you can do something to help, then you do it. You have to.

And it keeps happening, constantly. Scott is forced to put his own emotions to the side. When in Alpha Pact (3x11) did Scott have a chance to cry and scream about his mother being taken the way Stiles did? Remember at the end of that same episode when it's revealed to him that Isaac and Allison would be appropriate emotional tethers for each other? Did Scott ever get the chance to talk to anyone about how it felt for the boy he let move into his house and the girl he still loved to be emotionally involved with each other? No. Instead, he got criticized for being upset about it.

When did Scott get any chance to emotionally react to Victoria gassing him to death in Raving (2x08) except to be yelled at and scolded by Derek and Allison? He didn't, nor would he in Blitzkrieg (6x08) where Malia scolds for being upset that his mother was taken. "Scott, your mom is gone. But she's still alive." Once again, he's told to stuff his emotions down and do something.

Then there's The Divine Move (3x24), where after he holds Allison while she dies, the first thing we see is Chris Argent demanding he help with the cover story. Or there's him being tortured to 'find out what type of alpha he is' in The Dark Moon (4x01) but he has to put his reaction to that to the side to help Derek. Or Kira criticizing him because he wants to go on a date in Time of Death (4x08). Or Melissa telling him while she's lying in critical condition in a hospital bed in Werewolves of London (6x17) "Don't run, you fight."

Of course, there's the great scene in Status Asthmaticus (5x10), after Scott gets betrayed to Theo by Stiles and beaten to the point of death by Liam, his own mother tells him he has to put their feelings first. "You'll get them back. You have to."

To give the show reluctant credit, they made it go both ways. If Scott gets told again and again he has to put aside normal human emotional reactions to the terrible things that happened to him, they also had him do the same when 'called out.' He never bothers to defend himself. Instead, he works on getting better. When Stiles tortures and lectures him in Heart Monitor that he has to do something, he immediately does something in Night School. When everyone jumps on him in Ouroboros (5x08), he hides in a closet blames himself but only after he spends the entire episode looking for Liam and Hayden. (He has a fucking asthma attack and Mason stands above him and says "we should keep looking.") When Derek tells him in The Benefactor (4x04) that he has to concentrate on the Dead Pool, that's what he does, even though there's a bounty on him for 25 million dollars.

The show made it clear in Derek's speech. "Scott's always been about one thing. Saving his friends. He will do anything and everything to save the people he cares about. When there's no chance of winning, he keeps fighting. When all hope is lost, he finds another way. And when he's beaten down, he stands up again."

This means that he can't wallow in misery when someone hurts him, but it also means that when he makes a mistake, he can't go on apology tours. The only reason it seems like he didn't care that much is he didn't take three-day mourning vacations like Derek did while people were dying or sit in the rain and throw wrenches at Jeeps like Stiles did. @liliaeth I mean you're right, Scott was called out sometimes. But it somehow didn't feel as if he cared that much. It was sometimes said. Idk I feel like I have to reach for context every time I want to understand his emotions in the scene, because it's not clear. Idk if it's because of acting or directing. What I try to say is that because of those little things Scott may be perceived as ignorant or dumb, and it's a shame. I know he isn't. And I wish they portrayed his character with more care. I guess because of how they wrote/acted the character it was easy to see him as a bad friend, if someone wanted to see him that way. And it's a shame I wrote this post because I was wondering why Scott has such a bad rep in fandom. I love the guy

My main issue is this, of all the characters on the show, there were three characters who were called out on their mistakes the most.

There was Scott, there was Lydia and there was Derek. Which makes it no wonder that on the entire show, these three characters had the most character growth and development of any and all characters on the show.

Compare that to characters like say Stiles who was essentially static for six seasons, and had little to no character growth, because the show didn't dare to ever hold him accountable. Never made him feel remorse for how terribly he treated everyone around, him, and especially how badly Stiles treated the people he cared about, like Scott, like his father, like Lydia, like Malia...

(In fact the only time we see Stiles display any guilt over anything, it's to do with either the Nogitsune or Donovan, both of them cases where Stiles blames himself for things that are categorically not his fault. But when it comes to things that actually are Stiles' fault... things he actually did to personally wrong, it just gets ignored, and we see no reaction to it from Stiles, or any kind of him taking responsibility for it.)

But because Scott 'was' called out, and Stiles 'was not', people fell in the false notion that what Scott did was wrong, while Stiles behavior was 'just funny', or perfectly fine. Even though in most cases it was actually the opposite.

It's why people most often don't realize just how bad a friend Stiles was throughout most of the show.

See, you wrote that you felt Scott didn't care that much... and my instant reaction was 'did you miss the fact that he literally tried to kill himself out of guilt on three separate occasions?

In Frayed he is literally refusing to let himself heal, because he feels responsible over what happened to Derek.

And this is added on in Motel California, where he's already lit the torch, and thus is rid of most of the Darach's influence when he tries to put himself on fire, because he feels responsible for everything bad that's ever happened in their life since he was bitten.

And then in s5b, after Theo murdered him, it's Scott who takes responsibility for everything that went wrong, despite him being a victim, where once again, he won't let himself heal.

(all while the show refuses to let Stiles apologize or in any way take responsibility for listening to Theo and betraying the pack)

It's a recurring theme on the show, and with Scott that he's constantly taking responsibility for everything bad that happens around him, even and especially when it isn't his fault.

It's one of his main character traits, and this tendency to blame himself for everything that goes wrong, is probably one of his primary character flaws.

Like, it starts as early as in s1, when Stiles blames Scott for his father getting hit by a car in 'the Tell', when in Heart Monitor, he refuses to even talk to Scott, and Scott is desperately trying to make up for something that Scott had nothing to do with.

With Stiles blaming Scott for the 'werewolf crap coming into their life', despite Scott being the victim, and even going as far as Stiles abusing Scott with lacrosse balls, and getting him beaten up by seniors (risking said seniors' lives) just to punish Scott in false claim of it just being 'training)

I get that Stiles was just frustrated and worried about his father, which Scott knows as well, and is why Scott doesn't hold it against him. But with this added on to Scott's already existing tendency to take the blame for everything that goes wrong...

Scott could have refused, but instead he's blaming himself for these things, despite none of it being his fault... It's an ongoing character trait for Scott to do so.

I'm not saying the show was perfect, one of the main flaws the show had, esp. in regards to Scott, is that they went with the notion that Scott dealt with his suffering internally, and that the audience would see this as resilience. That he didn't lash out (outside of s1 when he's least in control of his instincts), and for the most part just dealt with it.

And directorial this lead to things like the show rarely if ever dealing with the horrors Scott went through. Even in the previouslies we rarely see a focus on what was done to Scott. Even Gerard torturing Scott with a knife in clear view in front of the hospital, and then threatening his Mom, is not mentioned in a single previously, no matter how relevant it would have been to do so...

Just like Melissa's horrified rejection of Scott in Fury is never once dealt with onscreen. Instead we get some mention of 'them being stronger now' in s3, when in reality what the show actually did was to stop having Melissa's behave like Scott's mother, and turning pretty much just into a mentor.

Where we see the sheriff putting his son first, and protecting his son at all cost, Melissa essentially stops doing so after Fury, and just starts putting expectations on him.

People ask why we keep bringing race into this, it's because in any other situation, where a white character's pain would be ignored in the show. (hell this is done plenty with Stiles even in tw fandom), fandom would then pick up the story in fanfic after fanfic...

But with Teen Wolf fandom, that does not happen.

Even Motel California, is more often made about Stiles, or Isaac, than it is made about Scott, a character who is clearly suicidal in canon.

And that would not be the case if Scott were white.

We constantly see fandom claim to hate Scott for traits that he either canonically does not have, faults, he canonically does not have, while ignoring the traits and flaws he does have, because they do not fit the narrative that people want the character or the show to be.

You and I have often joked about "people should have been bullied by their English teachers more" but it's not just a joke, is it? The reduction of media consumption to a narrow set of shared tropes has rendered almost any sort of nuanced experience impossible. The fandom sees any and every type of story almost exclusively in terms of whom can be shipped with whom. It leads to partisanship instead of comprehension and frustration with parts of the narrative that have nothing to do with romance and/or sex.

For example, that's the reason why I've been seeing outrage in the fandom for the new Interview with the Vampire over the way Lestat has been portrayed in the most recent episode. Fandom was so excited by the chance for their "toxic but loving mlm relationship" addiction to get its fix that they ignored the clear signs that Lestat's possessive love, shallow self-absorption, and culturally inculcated disdain for those he saw as lesser than himself would ultimately create unbearable horror for Louis and Claudia.

Instead of experiencing the story and what it's actually trying to say, they immediately rebel because they've been allowed to believe that consuming media means imposing their favorite tropes and fetishes on it. Due to this entitlement, "Enemies to lovers, slow burn, 300k" has become the enemy of actually being a receptive audience.

Nothing, nothing, embodies this more than fandom's reaction to Season 5 of Teen Wolf. Their interpretation of its plot is ridiculously shallow simply because that ridiculously shallow interpretation suits their needs, which was to make Stiles the victim of Scott's role as lead protagonist, rather than Stiles being the victim of Theo and the Doctors and their need to make Scott not a victim at all.

If a viewer would take off the stan-goggles for a moment, Theo and the Dread Doctors targeted each of the pack's weaknesses, of course, but not just any of their weaknesses. They targeted weaknesses that arose out of the pack's strengths as well. I could go into each of them, and I will upon request, but the pack's trust in each other can be underlined by the scene in Parasomnia (5x02):

Scott: Why can't you trust anyone?

Stiles: Because you trust everyone!

The key that the fandom misses in their need to impose their own desired outcome on the story is that both of these lines are intentionally wrong. Scott does not trust everyone. He didn't trust Derek, or Peter, or Gerard, or Deucalion, among others. But most importantly, he doesn't actually trust himself. He doesn't trust his own emotions, his own intelligence, or his own nature. It's why he can't bring himself to tell Kira about her fox spirit, because he would have to say he's afraid. It's why he doesn't tell Liam about the plan, because he's "not sure if it's going to work." It's why he tells his mother that things have changed "because of me."

Stiles on the other hand, trusts a lot of people. He trusts his own instincts and usefulness, which is why he's still haunted by the time they were taken from him. He trusts Scott's virtue, which is why he assumes that Scott would choose being morally right over him. He trusts Theo but only after Theo confirms Stiles's own initial judgement. And yes, he does trust Theo, because he works with him, he assumes Theo will keep their secrets, which is why Stiles was surprised by the wrench "where did you get that?", and, most importantly, he trusts Theo will keep his word when he offers "I'll tell you where your father is but only if you promise not to help Scott."

Now, of course, the stans will come back with that scene in Memory Found (6x09) where Theo tells Noah "He was smart enough not to trust me" and completely miss the context of that scene. Theo is locked in a jail cell in a city being attacked by the Wild Hunt, and he wants out and the only person with the key card demands to be told something about the son he's forgotten. Of course, Theo is going to say something that plays to the sheriff's biases in order to get what he wants. That is Theo's thing; that's his modus operandi. But fandom as usual decides that they need to take Theo's words at face value, as if they don't supposedly hate Scott for doing the exact same thing.

What's sad is they miss some of Teen Wolf's best writing when they shuck context in order to make the story serve their agenda. How many times have you read the fact that Derek or Peter or Theo has saved people's lives, so that means others should trust them, only to forget that this was exactly how Theo got people to trust him in Season 5A. As well as how Peter got people to trust him in Smoke & Mirrors (4x12) and how Derek got Scott to trust him in Lunatic (1x09). (Yet, strangely, Scott saving lives means nothing to them.)

Trust isn't a simple thing, not for Scott or Stiles or anyone. It's difficult yet worth pursuing, and Teen Wolf's writing doesn't shy away from exploring it. That complexity is completely eliminated in fandom's urge to promote certain ships and certain characters. They need to take English again.
