Hi! Happened to think about "Keep that Promise in Your Mouth" today and had to do a re-read.... and then I thought it might be nice to let you know that the story is fantastic and for me is in the Top 10 Rhaenicent ones. Hope you're doing great and thanks for sharing it with us! (The heart wants to ask if the final chapter/epilogue is something that is still on the table, but my own much less complete and eternally delayed fic reminds me of how hypocritical that would be. :D)

Ahh, thank you so much!! So many great works in this fandom so that is high praise indeed. And a very well-timed ask as I (hope I!) am finally getting properly going with the epilogue. I’m going to set myself the challenge of having it done by season’s end. I think we are and will be in need of a Rhaenicent experiencing radical joy.

WIP whenever meme

I'd not come across this one before and don't know the rules, so apologies if I'm doing it wrong! Tagged by the lovely @captastra and I am assuming from the name that this is about posting a piece of a WIP at some stage in its development at some point.

So, hoping I've got that right, and thanks for the tag!! and here's the opening of my long-half-finished summer cricket league story.

Setting is in the Guau-guau 'verse, which features the Rogue One crew as everyday people in west London. This is for @thenewleeland by the way; long-promised, maybe one day soon to be delivered!

The cricket match

In Re. yr. interest in local club league, the email was titled.  Bodhi blinked at his phone screen.  In Re. yr.  He tried to remember when he’d last seen a wording like that.  Informal in a way, but the informality of – what – his grandparents’ generation?  It made him weirdly uncomfortable.

As he opened the email, Luke came into the sitting room of their flat carrying the tea tray and Jyn began hastily sweeping papers and books off the table.  Bodhi read quickly and started to swear under his breath, and they both looked round.

“What the - Bo, are you okay?” Luke sounded completely taken aback by the strong language. “Is something wrong?”

“Oh fuck, fuck,” Bodhi said again. “I’ve made a total cock-up.” He rubbed the back of his neck, wishing he could undo the impulsive action of a few days ago that had led to this.

“Why, what’s going on?” Jyn asked. “Is something wrong at flight school?”

“What?  Oh no, nothing like that.  It’s about cricket.”

“You’re dropping f-bombs over the cricket?” Luke smiled. “Aww, honey, it’s just a game.”

“It’s about our little team.  I think I – I think I may have got us in deep shit.”

His fiancé and sister exchanged a glance and blinked at one another, like actors in a comedy, before Jyn came over and sat down beside him on the sofa. “Talk to me, Bodhi.  Is it Ealing council?  If we’re in trouble for paying ball games in the park or something, remember that’s on all of us, not just you.  No-one told us it was against the rules.”

“We didn’t ask,” Luke pointed out.

“Yeah, well, everyone plays sports there all the time so I don’t see why we should have to ask when—"

“It’s not the council,” Bodhi interrupted. “It’s – it’s all my fault.  Remember we were talking about if we could maybe join the local club league next year, if we could get a full team together?  I – I contacted them.  Just to ask.  It’s about that.  It’s a formal invitation.  From the captain of the current title holders.  To a, to a, like, a challenge match, to test if we’re good enough.”

“Blimey,” Jyn said. “A challenge?  Straight off the bat, if you’ll pardon the phrase?  That’s a bit over the top, isn’t it?”

“He suggests we have a friendly limited-over match one weekend.  And then he goes into all the details about requirements and allocated drinks breaks and whatnot and it all gets terribly formal and oh shit, it’s just - I’ve really fucked up so badly.  I should never have asked.”

He handed her the phone and she read while Luke poured him tea, and opened the biscuits.

“So,” Jyn said, accepting a mug and then a hobnob “this WH Tarkin brackets Captain close brackets wants to have a 40-over match one Saturday between his team from – Empire Gyms, hah! – and us.  The sides to provide one umpire each and tea to be at Empire Gyms’ expense as being the senior team.  Crikey, how ridiculously formal.  He makes it sound like a duel.  Okay, who’re we going to field then?  Bags I bat at number four.”

“Jyn, come on, we’re no way ready to play a formal match, we’ve just been knocking a ball about and having a laugh.”

“We’ve been challenged,” Jyn retorted. “By some pompous old buffer who thinks the local club league is his baby.  Talk about a big fish in a small pond.  He sounds so smug.  Someone should show him the little folks can play too, thank you very much Mr Tarkin.”

“Jyn, no…” 

“Jyn yes.  Seriously.  We can’t just get all British and embarrassed and say we didn’t mean it.  We’ve been challenged to a fight, we have to turn up at least.  Bodhi, come on!”

“Tell her she’s nuts,” Bodhi implored; but Luke was grinning at his future sister-in-law’s excitement.

“If we don’t even show up, then for sure, we’ll never get into the league,” Jyn went on. “If we give it a bash then at least we’ve taken a chance and had a go.”

She passed the phone to Luke. “Read it.  Tell me I’m not over-reacting.  This bloke sounds so bloody old-school, and really possessive.  It’s like all local cricket is his domain and none shall enter the realm without his say-so.  I want to punch his nose already and I haven’t even met him.”

Only 10 is much too cruel, but at least it wasn't the male characters I had to select!

A classic. A substantial part of my personality. The definitive December movie. If I could have only named one movie it would have been this one.

2. Disney's Robin Hood

The definitive Disney movie. Another substantial part of my personality.

The definitive fairytale movie. The other definitive December movie. Ingrained in my dna.

4. The Lord of the Rings

I have every frame of this movie memorised and yet am delighted with the whole thing every time I see it. Masterpiece of all time

5. The Last Unicorn

Possibly my first introduction into The Spooky Vibe. Comfort isn't necessarily what I derive from this very sad and very strange movie, but it's an all-time fave and I would never turn down an opportunity to watch it.

6. Some Like It Hot

I do watch comedies! My family was big on exactly two (2) comedies, and this was one. Has it aged perfectly? Absolutely not. Is it hilarious? Yes.

7. Pride and Prejudice

I don't have to explain this one. Not on tumblr.

8. Brooklyn

I keep forgetting this movie exists but I adore it. Such a simple tender lovestory. Such a good, simple, well-written, well-acted lead. So beautiful. Spaghetti training scene my beloved.

9. Sing Street

Such a gem. Please see this movie. It's so fun and the music is great and I cry every time.

10. The Winter Soldier

If comfort movies are the movies that you can always put on in the background and you'd never say no to them, then I must name this movie that isn't even in my personal top ten but that I have probably seen more often than any other movie in the world. It's just neat.

Hi, thanks for the great content, but especially for the finger picking GIFset! As someone who has a similiar nervous/anxious habit like that, but never really realised it, seeing it on-screen was both eye-opening and somewhat... validating?

That detail really made me sympathize with Alicent even more and I understand that constant, raw, gnawing feeling of dread and anxiety. I’m happy to see other people talking about this.

Title: One rose is enough for the dawn

It should be enough for Jyn, this life, with Papa, in peace and safety. Far away from the war that had racked the rest of their country; far enough away that their lives had continued on despite the bleeding and dying that had been taking place elsewhere in the world.

It should be enough, but it wasn’t. Not when she dreamt of other lands and far away adventures, of traveling to all the places she’d read about in her books, and beyond.

Your books make our small corner of the world seem big, she'd almost said. 

But she hadn't, because...She wanted more, far more than what they had planned for her.

Other notes: Beauty and the Beast AU

What I love about it:

Beauty and the Beast was always one of my favorite Disney movies, and so far, I’ve found this AU interpretation pretty interesting. I really loved how the introduction set up the premise, particularly the insight in Cassian’s mind and how he feels indebted to his parents and all of his ghosts. The opening was very well written, and just gave me all the Cassian feels! (He needs a hug from Jyn so badly!) 

I also liked how the writer evoked the feel of Beauty & the Beast; I could practically hear the music as I was reading. I think what also appeals to me about this AU is that the author doesn’t get stuck trying to adhere the to AU too strictly, but rather finds the balance of both B&tB and rebelcaptain. You can get themes of either and the characters are still believable and recognize. 

Really enjoyable read; I look forward to

'Sometimes he’ll see a poster for one of Jyn’s concerts, or Bodhi or Leia (but never Kay) will accidentally bring her up in conversation when they catch up, but Cassian’s fine with it. He is. He’s fine, and perfectly content, or at least perfectly resigned, to never seeing her again.'

The angsty Mozart in the Jungle au you've no doubt all been waiting for and sequel to 'Poco a poco' by canardroublard.

What I love about it:

I’m 100% always here for angst with a happy ending. Firefeufuego nailed Cassian’s longing and sadness perfectly here. As stated in the summary, this is actually a sequel to another (equally wonderful) fic, and I absolutely recommend them both, but wanted to shine the light on this one in particular because I think it deserves some more love!

I’m a real sucker for Jyn and Cassian working together as a team, and there’s a particular scene of them playing in the park that was magical. (Teamwork is one of my favorite tropes!) Communication may come difficult to Jyn and Cassisan, but there’s just something special about them playing together. I love it.

Added bonus: I have to admit, I haven’t watched any of Mozart in the Jungle, but I did appreciate that Cassian was best friends with Gael Garcia Bernal’s character.

Have some classical music on hand to listen to :)

Other notes: A soccer AU!

What I love about it:

Ohh, this is a really fun one! Perhaps geared for soccer fans, but I think it’s still fun even if you aren’t as into soccer. Lots of cameos and fun references that are well thought out. 

What I particularly enjoyed was the unique formatting. I love writing that mixes things up a little. Lee mixes narrative with a sort of live-ticker update format, as if the match was being reported on in real time. It makes for an appropriately fast-paced fic that evokes the speed at which a soccer game is actually played.

But that’s not all -- the descriptions of all the characters were spot on and and their soccer abilities/positions were appropriately fitting. We get some fun Tarkin and Krennic rivalry in addition to some absolutely wonderful rebelcaptain moments! (More teamwork, YES, what I’m here for!)

Overall really fun fic in a unique format. Quick read!

In From the Cold (Rebelcaptain Secret Santa)

The prompt was: Jyn and Cassian have a domestic, peaceful evening all for themselves (or with their family, if you wish to give them one). No matter what AU (In-universe or Modern), no matter if is some couch cuddling that leads to more "mature" activities, a kidfic or just an evening enjoying each other's presence. It's Christmas, let them be happy! ;)

When he’d promised Jyn that morning that he would be back before five, Cassian had had every intention of following through. It was Christmas Eve, after all – the first he’d ever really had with something resembling a family to call his own. He wanted to spend it with them, with her, not cooped up in the same office he’d spent half his life in.

Of course, bad guys didn’t take days off. Even Christmas Eve. The incident itself wouldn’t even have been that bad, if it hadn’t left him with an absolute truckload of paperwork to deal with. Sometimes, Cassian really hated his job. Even scrawling as fast as he could across forms he’d filled out a hundred times, so fast he was probably going to have to redo half of it when he came back in so that it was actually legible, the stack on the desk at his elbow never seemed to get any shorter.

He’d stopped looking at the clock around 5:45, opting instead to focus as hard as he could on getting it done so he could go home with a clear conscience. As a result, he had no idea how long he’d been working when a familiar clipped tone jolted him out of his pinpoint focus: “I thought you said you were going home early today.”

The break in his focus was enough for Cassian to realize his hand was cramping from gripping his pen. He sighed and raised his head, shaking the tingling pain from his fingers as he looked up at his partner. “Not early,” he corrected. “On time.”

“It is 7:04 PM,” Kay Tuesso said, folding his long arms across his chest. “By what stretch of imagination is that ‘on time’?”

Past seven? Already? Cassian couldn’t help it – he glanced up at the clock and groaned. “Jyn’s going to kill me.”

“I find that improbable,” Kay reassured him, “It’s far more likely she’ll just be disappointed in you.”

Cassian put his head on the table. “Not helping.”
