Turn Around, When Possible Reading Guide

A few months ago, I finished posting “Turn Around, When Possible” the first part of my Haikyuu fanfiction series called “There’s No Navigation That Tells You How To Survive A Car Crash”  on AO3. 

Back when I posted it, I left a reading guide in the comments on that final chapter, but I’m going to transfer it to Tumblr, because I think that’ll be more organized.

For the people who haven’t stumbled past this post because of the link in my AO3 end-note. Hi! I welcome you to read the summary of “Turn Around, When Possible”: 

It starts out like a fun idea: the Karasuno Volleyball Club traveling South to meet their rival teams for a training camp in Tokyo. Having full faith in their bus driver, Takeda, the team dozes off during the long drive. They’ve been driving through the woods for hours now, after all, and it’s already gotten dark.

Little do they know that this drive was never meant to be this long, and that Takeda is horrendously lost.

It gets worse from there – when, disoriented by the darkness and tiredness, Takeda makes a mistake while driving. A mistake that results in the bus rolling down a slope.

Just like that, Team Karasuno is hurt and stranded in the middle of nowhere, struggling to survive. All they can do, except take care of their wounds and one another, is wait, and wait, and wait for someone to find them.

They wish they’d turned around when they still had the chance.

Hello, long time no see.

I know I haven't posted on here in a really long time, but I think it's time I come out about something.

I was active on tumblr @thisblogisathing-moved from 2011 to early 2017, and moved for reasons I stated in the very beginning of my current account (the account this is posted on). I left out 1 reason, and that is the memories of a past relationship I had with someone of with the url of Galaxyphoenicx, real name Nic.

We met on a unofficial Rooster Teeth minecraft server called Drunk Rooster Server (DRS). We formed a friend group consisting of some of their IRL friends, and also some others we met on DRS. Sooner or later, Nic and I started a relationship. This would be a wonderful thing, but I was 15 years old and just dropped out of high school, and they were 20 going to college.

This is where I don't know where to continue. The entire year I was with them was blurry, because I was in a terrible mental state. I will state some of the things that I remember.

We spent most of our time in Skype calls, sometimes messaging

We would RP Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth. Yes, that includes ERP (Erotic Roleplay).

We would talk nonstop about meeting in New York, where they lived at the time, but never to where I lived.

We would spend time together almost every night up until 5:00AM, sometimes later

Near the end of our relationship, Nic got into an anime called Haikyuu and also met some people on tumblr that were also into that anime. I didn't like it, but I tried it out for them so I could be involved in the friend group and enjoy more time with them. That is when I started crushing on someone in that group almost immediately.

Around the time, I heard of Polyamorous relationships on tumblr. Being naive, and not understanding what entails, I asked Nic if we could have one. Nic said yes, and started dating someone else in the Haikyuu friend group. My crush said no to joining the relationship, and I got upset. I asked Nic to end the polyamorous relationship, and that it could go back to just us two.

I remember I was starting to get really anxious, and I was talking to my friends from the DRS group, while Nic was being silent. I was deciding on breaking up with Nic, since obviously communication was a big problem, and I was feeling like absolute garbage from the entire situation. Then some of the people from the Haikyuu group start messaging me, calling me manipulative and that I was a terrible person. That I needed help and to leave Nic alone.

I was in shock, I didn't understand what was happening and I panicked. I claimed that it wasn't me and that it was an alternative personality I had that was doing all that, even though I didn't have DID. I do admit that was INCREDIBLY stupid, and I should've just asked what the hell was going on and moved on from that point, but I didn't. Of course, the people messaging me said it was still my fault.

The rest is a complete blur. All I remember was kicking Nic from all our skype groups so that the friend group from DRS could comfort me without them seeing. I sometimes still wonder if the Haikyuu group is still friends with Nic, and do they know that Nic was dating a 15/16 year old while they were 20/21?

To conclude this, I know Nic isn't on tumblr anymore, or has changed their URL. They are still on twitter going by the same URL though, and I just wanted to get this out somewhere. I want the Haikyuu group to know that Nic was the one that manipulated me. Nic was the adult dating an underaged teen.

It took me years to get over the fact that I am NOT manipulative, and that I was the one that was manipulated. I couldn't look at Haikyuu for years. I couldn't even enjoy Phoenix Wright for while. This has been on my mind at least once a month for the last 8-9 years and I hope it can finally be put to rest in my brain once I press the post button.

I wasn’t really sure what to name my blog, so I just decided to do something pretty self-explanatory!

Nope, this is my only one.

I have seen textposts and such before, but I have only been an active user and poster for about a month and a half

5. why did you start your blog in the first place?

I had a lot of content I had made around Haikyuu which I wanted to share, but nobody I am close to is into the show. I wanted to be able to share my jokes and memes with other people who would get the references, and I also wanted to make people smile and laugh. I also was looking for an online community to be part of, especially with the isolation that came with the pandemic. I really love my blog and my mutuals and I am so happy I started it.

6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?

Bokuto is my 2nd favorite character and that picture of him gives me so much serotonin.

7. why did you choose your header?

Oikawa is my favorite character, and I also love Iwaizumi. Oikawa is an incredibly relatable character to me (and my top kin) and that moment of him and Iwa always makes me emotional. Regardless of whether it is a romantic or platonic bond between the two of them, their relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the show.

8. what’s your post with the most notes?

My post with the most notes is my one about Bokuto confessing to Akaashi and him saying “neat.” And then talking to Kenma about how embarrassed he is about his response, and Kenma saying he responded to Kuroo’s confession by thanking him. It’s two of my favorite ships and four of my favorite characters :)

Why Twisted Wonderland fandom is so toxic, a draft by inky’s experiences

You’re not forced to read this. Yet, I hope this spreads more awareness.

First clear-up; I won’t accept any kind of criticism, constructive or not. I just don’t care if you have something to say against this, or if you attack me I still won’t give a flying fuck. I’m basing all this in my personal experiences.

Second clear up; I am not calling out anyone with this, or any past public drama that may have happened in the Twisted Wonderland fandom. You’ll feel attacked only if you actually have done or still do one or more of the things I mention in this text. THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK.

Third clear up; If you noticed I’m ruder in here, you’re kind of right. I’m just really done with people who keep throwing crap on a fandom that has everything (it has a nice story, amazing characters, material, merch, awesome fanart and fanfics, fancreations…) it’s the most complete fandom I’ve been in and still some people keep making the community hostile to stay in.

  I think we all know at this point that twst’s fandom is toxic. Now there are different factors for this.

I’ll start by the one that surprised me the most.

1. A HUGE part of the fandom is formed by adults. I don’t mind this, however this is frustrating.

I completely don’t mind if you’re 26 or 14, as long as you’re having fun without harming anyone you can stay around. My theory of why there are so many grown-up people is because Disney children are now older. Now, what’s frustrating is not that there are adults, but the fact that they don’t behave like some.

I apologize, but you simply can’t ask for a teen (because they exist too) to equal their “matureness” with yours. How for instance, a 16 year-old person gets in an argument with a, let’s say, 22 year-old person, the teen has less experience want it or not. You can’t just pretend they have an intellectual similar to yours. On the other hand, there are cases where the adult behaves like a girl with perenne period.

The fact I, a 15 year-old person, got into a few arguments with straight up adults that reason like a child proves this point. I’m not someone who likes to get into fights or discussions with other people, but when they get to the point to get even bratty when they’re clearly in the wrong annoys me so much.

Just mind your own business.

2. Public blaming. Seriously what’s up with this. I’ve seen quite some arguments online, public so lots of people could see, on topics that aren’t even important? Please wash your dirty clothes in private, direct messages or with a small group still in private, honestly making stuff public doesn’t help but create drama and make the problem even bigger.

However, I can understand when a user is really toxic, and someone who calls them out is really brave. But please keep small discussions behind closed doors and move on. I know it can be difficult, but you’ll be better.

Add-up: tumblr is -5$. It’s a crappy website where people bicker to kill time. It’s not worth it. If you need help, you can DM me at any time if you trust me, and everything will be between me and you without getting out of the chat. I’ll help you at the best of my abilities.

3. Support. I haven’t been in a more hostile and cold fandom than this one. Where are the likes? The support crew? Does that not exist?

Small blogs are being stepped on by huge, bigger ones. It seriously looks like nobody cares. And what’s more draining, people usually get the same blogs and posts recommended.

I have several experiences with this, and tumblr is a place where you grow if you’re lucky and noticed. I’m calling this fact out since I’m now a medium account and send asks to smaller accounts like crazy in hope the blogs get noticed, but knowing this is still crushing. And what’s worse, that most people do not care at all. Please support creators, everyone deserves love.

And if you like someone’s content, a kind ask (small blog or big) can make a person’s whole day. 4. Anons. WHAT’S WRONG WITH HIS ANON HATE. I just- why?

Aight I’ve been in lots of fandoms (Kimetsu no Yaiba, Yuri on Ice, Dangerous Fellows, Mystoc Messenger, Nanbaka, Hetalia, Haikyuu, etc), and none of this was as hateful as the Twisted Wonderland one. Usually are the small blogs the ones that get targeted since the big ones already have a “backup” of people who support them no matter what.

I got quite a few anon hate as well, but honestly I couldn’t care less because I post what I like and I still enjoy posting, but I understand there are people who take it to the personal and anons like this unmotivates them. Please support them. They’re people, they’re humans too. And most of them don’t deserve the hate.

Also if you got anon hate, it’s probably just a bored person. I know it can be difficult, but shrug it off. 

5. Blogs and toxicity. Connecting this to the previous point. Accounts are people before they are blogs. Follow blogs for the people before you follow for the content. There can be really toxic people behind amazing material. If you realize an admin of a blog is toxic, is better unfollow them than keep following for content. It seems almost like you’re supporting them.

i used to never plan my fics, like at all. but then i was so unsatisfied with the flow of things and like idk lack of clarity. drivers license was the first time i actually sat down and planned out an entire fic as i was writing it. it rly does make things easier when u have an idea of what u want. and then just having the idea can help you possibly expand on it and get even better ideas off of it. the events of drivers license and the order it was all written in changed like 20394803 times. but yeah, does that make sense... LMFAO

7. one shot or multi-chapter?

one shots because i can never fucking get myself to finish a series. i love reading them tho

8. what is the perfect chapter length in your opinion?

no clue. i love long stories and slow burn tho, it's just so satisfying and $wag when it's well-written and the characters are well-written too.

the fic i'm about to post is nearing 20k, and it might even surpass that which will end up being the longest story on this blog. insane! drivers license is around 10k i think, and then if u combine the wnrs couple's fics it's like 15k? im too lazy to look tbh SRy

oh drivers license for sure! i don't think i've ever immersed myself and put so much effort into a story before. it was truly an amazing experience, and i just know that i'll probably never be able to write anything like that fic ever again. it's rly one of a kind for me.

most of the requests i had on this blog got taken down bc they were so bad. i'm not sure if the yoongi superhero!au is still up on here, but i'd choose that one since i really had to branch out of my writing style for it. regardless of it being like barely 2k.

miscommunication, so much banter, i used to see this a lot but i would take it out but... head bonking ??LSKDFJHAHA, my side characters being dumbasses and then my main characters being even bigger dumbasses (oc probably being the biggest dumbass)

during the course of writing the current fic i plan on posting this week, i created like 5 wips and they all hit 5k, and then i straight up abandoned them. and then the endless idea bank google doc. so if i count the wips i for sure want to finish by like this year or summer... like 3 or 4.

i feel like i repeat stuff a lot throughout all my stories LOL,, it irks me so bad. i think i relate to all my ocs in at least one way or another.

oh boy. i think... anything from the last like. 8 months? my svt stuff for sure!! i went a while without writing in between like january-late november 2020, and i was worried that my writing would suffer a lot... it took a sec for me to get back into the groove of things but i’m feeling happier than ever with the stuff i write now. i feel like ive matured about the way i approach my own writing and ideas, and how i do everything, and my fics make me really proud. ive started writing within different aus that i hadnt touched before, or talking about different feelings or ideas, etc... i really feel like ive grown with this most recent burst lol, and i love working on them! i get so hyped up when im in the middle of writing or even planning, im just so excited to share all of it hehe

i really like repetition (specifically in sentences if that makes sense??), LOTS of unspoken things (even if i picture a fic with an established relationship, i dont say it within the fic; and especially concerning romantic feelings, i love when things go unsaid and are FELT full force), i think a lot of detailed rambling... i really like to try and describe emotions and stuff in the most abstract and obscure ways lol i feel like it makes things a little more palpable and honest

im gonna do a few. Lol. firstly this long one from pretend people can unlearn:

“Are you…” Jeonghan starts, and when you look at him, his eyes are still on the city in front of you. “Are you ever afraid that we’ll fall out of love?”

It never occurred to you that this was love. It’s not like the love you’ve experienced in the past, not even close. But maybe… maybe that’s why you never leave, why you hold yourself back from certain arguments like it might fix everything. Maybe love is the reason why Jeonghan still seems to believe in you. Why he promises he’ll be the best thing for you despite always breaking that promise.

(Is it love, a voice in your head questions, or is it longing?)

It takes you a while to respond. “I don’t know,” you end up saying, because you really don’t. Jeonghan turns his head and looks at you, and you half expect him to start an argument in the middle of night, out on the street like this. It wouldn’t be the first time. “Would that… be okay?”

“I don’t know,” Jeonghan answers, just like you. His voice is soft. You want to reach for his hand just to hold it. “You’re still…”

You play them like you are one of them, tell them the right things with a silver tongue. Wonwoo always watches, plays the part of an observer. It’s impressive, the way you float around the room like it’s nothing.

I was doing really well in school, but stressed all the time, had an awesome relationship but kind of ruined it w my anxiety, and had serious roommate issues that made me afraid to leave my bedroom or even come home, sometimes. I remember a lot of very high highs and very low lows especially in the fall/winter of that year.

well, yes and no… I don't tend to show a lot of emotion to begin with, but what I do show, I'm basically incapable of hiding, and apparently I'm a terrible liar bc my face gives me away.

I'm pretty alright… kind of anxious, kind of tired, but that's just been the status quo lately tbh.

I'm simultaneously like, the most confident and the most self-doubting person I know... like there are certain things I'm super certain of and times when I feel no shame, and there are others where I'll just shrivel into a ball of anxiety and mortification and never come out. in the same vein, I'm simultaneously very trusting and open and very wary and cautious with people… it really depends on the situation and the person I think, I'm a very "you get out what you put in" person.

16. have you ever wanted to tell someone something but you didn't?

yeah, I’m still holding onto things I’ve wanted to tell certain people tbh… I used to be a lot more forthcoming and not worry about the consequences of what I had to say, but now that I’ve seen what power words have to ruin relationships and impact people I tend to hold back quite a bit. 

17. opinion on insecurities

I have… many, but I understand that I shouldn't and am working on the ones I do have. I think feeling insecure can lead to some of the most ugly, toxic emotions and responses in certain people, so I'm trying to be conscientious of that.

1. lately I've been carrying a fanny pack with the trans flag (there's an unfortunate but very tempting pun in there) and it's still got the security tag bc they forgot to take it off in the store so now every time I walk through the doorway to like, a drug store, I set off the alarm. I would get it taken off but it was sent to me from Chicago lol.

2. I've got a lot of outdoorsy skills bc of my gym class in high school, like rock climbing, kayaking, building fire, etc. I'm not super adventurous in my daily life but while I was in that class, I did all kinds of things.

3. for awhile I worked at a cat cafe, and helped take care of the 12-15 rescue cats we'd have there at any given time. I stand by that it was the best job I've ever had, but the people I worked with, not so much.

I have a vague memory… of helping my mom in the garden of my old house when I was a little kid, mostly just digging in the dirt in the spring and being outside with my family… it's not very clear or specific but I think those days were some of the happiest of my life.

I'm good at learning the lyrics to songs, I've got over 1000 downloaded in my spotify library and I'm pretty sure I know the words to at least most of them. in a similar vein I'm good at learning the scripts to movies, and just… memorizing things in general especially audio.

I joined in 2012 bc my friends told me to, had a brief recession where I didn't use it at all, and a pretty lengthy sidetrack through the RP community, and then I came back bc of the friends I'd made here, and the unique-ness of the platform that I kinda can't find anywhere else. I'm stuck here just like the rest of y'all. 

60. ask me anything you want (which do you prefer between KNB and Haikyuu?)

now this is a tough one… bc I really love them both a lot, and tbh in terms of quality of writing, art/animation, thematic music, character development and general story, I think Haikyuu!! has KNB beat, buuuuuut…. in spite of its flaws, I have such a soft spot for KNB and I keep coming back to it over and over again even as it falls into relative obscurity. It's the only thing I write for anymore and I'm still, somehow, utterly obsessed with the characters I first fell in love with over five years ago. KNB has problems, for sure, but the things it gets right (like setting a mood, strong emotional beats and character relationships) it knocks out of the park. I don't know if I could ever choose one over the other in terms of like, "you can only read/watch one of these and have to give up the other forever", but in terms of which has had the biggest impact, and still hits me the hardest, I'd probably have to go with KNB… but it's not by any means an easy choice.

1. who is your favorite character in 2?

This one’s really hard, but I think I gotta go with Raven Reyes.

Okay so this one is really hard because it’s the only show I’ve ever watched where even the opponents are given healthy backstories, but the coach from Shiratorizawa is kind of a douche, so we’ll go with him.

Maybe the last one?  All of those kids telling the four horsemen to go fuck themselves was beautiful.  

4. what is your favorite season of 5?

Oohh, this is a good one.  I think I liked Season 2 the best?  Although I loved watching Joffrey die in Season 4.  

5. who is your favorite couple in 3?

I’ve never seen the first campaign, and I’m only partway through the second one, so I guess I have to go with Yasha/Zuella.  Their story is so heartbreaking.

6. who is your favorite couple in 2?

Beware: mini-rant ahead.  

I'm honestly not very into shipping.  I liked and still sort of like Bellarke, but it’s harder to come up with ships I DON’T like than ones I do.  Some I like more than others, others make no sense to me, but I don’t watch it for the ships (not a dig if you do!).  One of the things I had to get over was that the timing on this show of romantic relationships never made a whole lot of sense to me - either things happened way sooner than I expected, or way later.  Or they were way more (or less) serious than I anticipated.  People forgave (or didn’t forgive!) each other or didn’t at a rate I couldn’t predict, and I realized that the writers aren’t operating on my wavelength.  Which is fine, but that means I sort of watch the show for what it is and then imagine how I would write things if I was in control of the narrative.  

7. what is your favorite episode of 1?

This is such a hard question to answer, but I think I have to go with ‘Halo Around the Moon’.  Tsukki’s arc is my favorite in the whole series, and that moment where he blocked Ushijima’s spike to win the second set had me SCREAMING the first time I saw it.

8. what is your favorite episode of 5?

Don’t know if I have one, tbh.

9. what is your favorite season of 2?

Season 2!  

10. how long have you watched 1?

I started watching it this spring and will probably get into the manga at some point.

My sister plays D&D, and I’d seen some of it on Tumblr.  So glad I jumped in!

David Tennant.

Oh wow.  Although I’ve loved GOT and The 100 for much longer, I think I have to go with Haikyuu.  Such a well-written show, and I’ve never felt cheated or lied to by the narrative, even if I didn’t like it.

I’ve seen all of Haikyuu and only part of the second campaign of Critical Role, so Haikyuu.

Uh.  God, I guess?  So I could lean over and be like, “I DID NOT WORK FOR SEVEN DAYS STRAIGHT JUST SO YOU YAHOOS COULD MESS EVERYTHING UP, OKAY!?!”

Critical Role and Good Omens...good lord!  I think so?  In a world where Adam can will things into being, he could absolutely imagine elves, dwarves, orcs, etc. being real.  Which would make it possible for CR characters to make the jump to the world of Good Omens.  

17. pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.

I 100% ship Coach Ukai with Tanaka’s sister, Saeko.  They’d make adorably sassy, hot blond babies.

18. overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?

Critical Role.  The storytelling fell apart in Game of Thrones pretty quickly after GRRM left the production.

I like them both, but I’m gonna go with The 100′s Theme.

9. Work I’m most proud of (and why):

on our way to twenty-seven! i was digging into some identity and sexuality issues that i myself have dealt with in the past and writing about it was the first time i’d really dove into some of that stuff, so i really enjoyed writing it and i think it’s some of my best.

i’m also really proud of i’m taking back the crown and i wish i could say why. i just really like the way it came out. writing oikawa as this desperate dethroned prince trying to reclaim his kingdom at any cost only to be beaten at his own game in his own home was just...ugh. it was so much fun to write.

10. Work I’m least proud of (and why):

one more time as if we planned it, definitely. i just felt super rushed writing it. it was for the one direction rarepair fest, which was super fun, but i had Just finished a longer fic a few days before this one was due and i initially tried to drop out because i thought i wouldn’t be able to finish it, but i did, but i still feel like it’s rushed and just not as good as it could have been if i’d planned better and given it some more time.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

im gonna do what i did last year and post more than one, because 1. i can’t decide and 2. i quite honestly am pretty proud of a lot of what i wrote this year

Tooru’s squealing somewhere behind them, and Hajime’s gruffly trying to get out the door, and he’ll have to call the school and make up something about being sick so he can spend the day catching up with Daichi, but it can wait. It can all wait. Because Koushi’s waited long enough. It’s about time the rest of the world waits for him.

from strawberries on a summer evening —

Suga hums against him, licking strawberry seeds from between Daichi’s teeth, like he’s just as intoxicated by Daichi as Daichi is with him. Daichi could live here, in this feeling, ignoring everything except how Suga sounds (like bliss personified), smells (like sunblock and sweat), tastes (like sugar and salt). He’s the hottest part of the summer, high noon in mid-August, just this side of too much to handle, but addicting in how it leaves you at its mercy.

“Sorry, what was your name again?”

Tetsurou opens his mouth to say his American name, but he catches Daichi and Suga looking at him, and he swallows it down. “My name is Tetsurou. Tetsurou Kuroo.”

“I thought you wanted people to call you Tyler,” Timothy says.

Tetsurou shoots him a glare and says it again, feeling his confidence start to grow. “My name is Tetsurou Kuroo. Tetsu is fine, too, but I don’t go by Tyler anymore.”

12. Share or describe a favorite review you received:

any time tasteofsummersnow left me a comment, it made my heart go doki doki!! her comments are so in depth and so very sweet and it’s so much fun to see her real-time reactions to my writing. i go back and reread them like once a week they’re so nice ;_;

13. A time when writing was really, really hard:

the spring/early summer in general was tough, like from march to june. i didn’t post anything between february and may, and i feel like i was struggling a lot creatively around like may/june of this year. i think it’s because a lot of stuff in the 1d fandom was really turning me off at the time and that’s when the burnout fully hit.

14. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

definitely sugawara in the city is at war. i was writing that first chapter and initially i just wanted to see him step up when daichi wasn’t around but he very quickly turned sadistic and ruthless and scarily sharp, which is just so much fun to write him as. and his relationship with daichi is just—ugh. love that violence-fueled romance. they would kill a hundred men for each other and be turned on once they were finished.

honestly, all of the city is at war has surprised me. the idea came to me in a dream on a long bus ride, of all the clan leaders having a meeting and being attacked, and i woke up and banged it out in 36 hours. i meant it to be a oneshot but as i wrote it, i realized i loved the au so much there was no way i could leave it at that. so now it’s got a whole plot and all that. fun!

15. How did you grow as a writer this year:

last year i said i felt i grew writing angst and exploring different emotional themes, and i think i built on that even more this year. i did a bunch of shorter pieces this year and i feel a lot of them really explored emotions and characters more than plot, and that’s been so much fun. and then as well, like i said before, i’ve branched out into the crime-action genre with the yakuza au. and! iwaoi horror week was my first real attempt at spooky/creepy/horror-type writing, and, it was a fun challenge for sure.

i also said i wanted to just keep writing and be spontaneous and i definitely did that this year. i posted so many fics not caring how long it had been since the last one—sometimes it was less a day. numbers stopped mattering to me. i posted just because i wanted to put my writing out there and share it with the world, knowing there had to be someone out there who’d like it.

16. How do you hope to grow next year:

i feel like 2019 was a year of trying a lot of new things, so in 2020 i’m hoping to explore some different ships and tropes. the sheer number of characters and ships in haikyuu means there’s a ship for just about every trope and au out there, and i want to play around with some dynamics i’ve never written before.

17. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

as always, a shoutout to the loggies, who have been a fantastic source of inspiration and support all year even after i retired from 1d fic. and i would also like to thank the people i met via various hq discord servers—you know who you are!! thank you for the sprints, the encouragement, the inspiration, and the friendship. as someone brand new to the fandom, the support and sense of community has been nothing short of amazing, and you guys are part of the reason i felt so comfortable in this fandom so quickly.

18. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

actually, yeah. even mountains crumble into the sea was written the night before i broke up with my ex. i wrote it as an exercise to get all my feelings out, lay them all on the table where i could see them and pick through them, and then imagine the best possible way the scenario could go.

19. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

honestly—just write! write what you’re happy with. write even if you don’t post it. write, because everything you do is practice that’ll help you improve.

and don’t be afraid to write out of order or write more than one project at a time. i know that won’t work for everyone, but for me, if i didn’t immediately write what was on my mind, i probably wouldn’t have posted half of what i did this year.

20. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

hey remember last year when i said i was gonna finish the breath of the wild au?? L M A O i’m really gonna finish it next year i swear!!

i have a fic posting in the spring for the nsfw big bang which i’m ALSO very excited about! i’m lucky to be working with such a talented artist and the end result is gonna be amazing and i’m so so excited.

i also want to keep going with the city is at war, because that plot was a pleasant surprise. and there’s an ever-growing list of fic ideas and aus that i’m so excited to write—some of them were originally for larry aus but i’ve repurposed them for haikyuu pairings and that’s helped breathe new life into some old ideas.
